Takata recall ... Ford dealerships are refusing to give me (and other ford owners affected by the airbag recall) a loaner car or rental car. I live in a state with high humidity, which means there's a higher failure rate. My wife could be number 19 in the death toll so far! in ford's letter to me regarding this, they simply state "do not allow anyone to sit in the first row passenger seat". That is a horrible statement, which effectively means "sorry, 50% of your car is unusable until we find a solution a year from now"! all other companies affected by this recall are offering it's customers a safe vehicle to ride during the wait. Ford should as well! please attempt to push them to do so. Thank you.

Takata recall, letter received feb 2018, ford motor co & local dealer say don"t know when parts are available to fix issue, ford motor co says in letter receivedmay 2018 that ford allowing $30 day for rental car, local dealer says don't have rental cars for $30 day, minimum is $38 day, that means about $240 per month that a lot of people don't have. Scared to drive the car because of injury that could be caused.wanted to sell car as it was my moms who has passed away but nobody wants to buy it because of this recall - i don't blame them.so there it sits parked while i am paying for license plate and insurance.read that it is safe if no one sits in front passenger seat - do i trust this? why does it take so long to get parts, when new cars are coming out and ford has air bags in new cars.where do they get air bag parts for the new cars being manufactured?guess just have to wait, for how long - nobody knows!

Takata recall all ford service departments in my area said that they cannot get the parts to fix my airbags.

Have received several recall notifications concerning the passenger side air bag in my vehicle.i've checked with the dealer several times and am only told they are not available and i'll be notified when one does become available.why isn't the nhtsa forcing the issue on these recalls?i've seen many complaints for all years and models so it is not just limited to my particular vehicle.if this is a safety issue, enforce the requirement!

Cas13975245.we do not have the privilege of leaving our vehicle parked, undriven.we even asked the dealer and the florida office if they will disconnect the entire airbag until parts are received, response =unlawful. Ford has sent three (3) recall notifications to me regarding the takata recall.after i received the second and subsequent third notice, i called a dealer to ask about bringing in the vehicle for the replacement/repair.i have been told both times that the manufacturer has not sent the replacements.the manufacturer keeps updating the system - the latest is october 31, 2018.accidents are unavoidable sometimes, and if i had a passenger in my vehicle and the airbag exploded, the resulting disaster from the metal associated with these airbags would disfigure my passenger.does such a tragedy need to take place before any consumer receives what is a public trust for our collective safety?

Takata recall -- after checking that my vehicle was impacted by this recall, i have continuously called dealers in virginia beach and northern virginia for the past year and there isnt even a waiting list.i am told to try back again without any suggestion as to when they will be have materials in stock to fix the situation.

The takata inflators recall notice was sent to me almost a year ago and there still isnt a remedy and it is not safe to transport my family in the vehicle as well its not safe to drive on the road for if the airbag deploys and is faulty i could get seriously hurt and cause my to possibly hurt others if i loose control of my vehicle

Takata recall. I received a recall notice from ford on march 17, 2017 describing an "issue" regarding potential metal fragments in the airbags. I tried to get the airbags replaced in cleveland, at liberty ford. We moved to hilton head in the spring of 2017 and i have since tried to get the airbags replaced, on november 6, 2017 at o.c. Welch ford in hardeeville, sc. Neither dealerships will replace the airbags because they state the replacement airbags are "not available" and that ford will send me a letter advising me when parts are available. Part of the problem may be that i did not buy my 2009 ford edge at a dealership. I bought it while i was stationed in landstuhl, germany with the navy. I bought it through overseas military sales and picked the car up at a dealership in parma oh after it was shipped there. This shouldn't have any bearing on ford replacing my airbags, but perhaps it does.

I received a notice about the defected airbags that needed to be replaced a while back, but the replacement airbags have never came in. I have been waiting patiently for the item but the dealership has never received the item. Every day on the road is a risk to my passenger's life and i no longer want to patiently wait for something that may never arrive. I am on the road everyday for long periods of time with my wife all over harris county in houston, and i cannot risk something happening to my wife as a result of defective airbags. I would appreciate a timely solution.

Takata recall - i received notification in january 2018 from my credit karma acct that my vehicle was a part of the takata recall. Upon research with nhtsa, i found that there was no remedy for the recall. A few months later i received a notice that ford was offering to cover rental car expenses for those effected by the recall with no remedy. But when i called my local dealerships to ask for the rental, i was told that the rental company that ford deals with, enterprise, was refusing to honorthe offer. It is now november 2018, and no remedy has been established. My car is in group 5, of which only a very small percentage of effected vehicles have been fixed. It is also my understanding the remedy parts manufacturer is based in mexico. With the current state of affairs between potus and mexico, that means the exporting and distribution of goods will take longer. I find that the prudent thing for ford to do is move manufacturing to the us. I understand this may be more expensive for ford in the short term. But it would benefit them more in the long run by getting these parts made quicker and distributed quicker, rather than a class action law suit or individual law suits for those who have been inconvenienced or worse, hurt or died. I feel like it will be years before my car is fixed. At this time, i do not allow anyone to sit in my front passenger seat. I cant even use this vehicle as the family car as intended when we bought it. Im highly frustrated by the lack of progress. It is my hope that the nhsta can help facilitate progress by ford & takata.

I received a letter from ford about nov/dec 2017 advising me of the recall issues for my vehicle. I have not been able to speak to a ford customer service rep, and my dealer nor the finance company know what to do. I received a more recent letter from ford with options and stating that the parts required are still not available. I need to speak to someone because i am afraid of all the recall issues surrounding my vehicle. I keep the maintenance up on my vehicle but i have been experiencing safety issues while driving, like my vehicle threatens to stop for no apparent reason while i'm driving it. I can't afford to continually pay for repairs or even just be without my vehicle because i'm the only income for my family!

2009 ford edge -- major issue-- ford needs to cover costs---i was driving my 2009 ford edge sel approx. 4 miles.once i rolled to a stop at a traffic light the car began to idle and then stalled.no warning lights.. I started the engine and pressed the gas (no acceleration).the engine ran at around 1-2k rpm.i pressed the gas again, no acceleration.i shut off the car called aaa for a tow.i started the car once more to check the gauges, no service lights.when i checked the other indicators it stated, car temp -- ok, oil pressure - ok, etc...all ok.. No warning lights, no issues.the car was in about 1.5 months ago for oil, 3-4 months for service.about 8-9 months ago, moroone ford of margate (under warranty)fixed an electrical issue (where no lights were showing)they claimed it was a ford issue and they replaced it (no cost).well now this happened and moroone ford of margate said, "blown engine, $7,700 to replace + $400 for cooling fan."they said the cooling fan broke (no warning) and the engine blew.no warning, lights, etc...when i looked under the hood waiting for aaa (no smoke, no smell... Yet a blown engine (full replacement)...i will fight this because i believe this is an electrical issue that they tried to fix prior and this happened again.i also don't believe the engine was destroyed.hopefully the government and ford will research and cover the repairs / replacement.no warning lightsoil temp -- okoil pressure -- okcar idled and stalled...approx. Miles 82,000.

During normal highway operation the right rear taillight failed. Inspection of the failed component found the taillight socket had melted. There was no prior indication of circuit breakdown, ie: fuse blown, etc. All parts were factory installed as none had been previously replaced from new.

The passenger door ajar lightstays on and won't go off and the doors will not lock. This happens when i start my car , drive my car and will only go off when i turn off the engine.in my opinion this constitutes a major safety hazard what with the doors not locking.

It started stalling, and losing power while driving. When the ac is turned on it started driving rough at low speeds but when the ac is off it runs rough at high speeds. The throttle body seems to beessed up it now runs rough and idles rough. It's almost like it doesn't have the correctfuel to air ratio.

Have replaced brake light sockets due to melting sockets and bulbs melting. I've had to change them out three times now within two years. Started in october of 2018 and once since then and again just now august 2020

Safety- on april 30,2009 i purchased a new 2009 ford edge.on memorial day, 2009, 1 month after it was purchased and with approx. 1200 miles on it in heavy traffic on the nys thruway it made a loud clunking sound, jerked and within 5 seconds just shut off. Vehicle would not move, it had to be towed. Was taken in for service, they found nothing. On october 31, 2009, again, i was on the nys thruway, it did the same identical thing, made a loud clunking noise, jerked and within 5 seconds just shut off.both times i was barely able to make it to the edge of the road. I called for a tow truck, but in the meantime this time it started after about 15 minutes.the check engine light was on until the next morning and then it went off. Again, i took it in for service, again, they found nothing.they said there was no codes showing up for anything wrong.this is a severe safety issue.someone could get killed when this happens and i have very small grandchildren that could be with me. I am not comfortable driving this vehicle.i contacted ford direct and a specialist from ford contacted me today by the name of denise.she said ford wouldn't replace any parts without a code coming up in their computer.i asked her if they were going to just wait until someone was killed and she said that ford will not approve any parts being replaced since they don't know what the problem is.ford has now put approximately 500 miles themselves on the vehicle test driving it, and i still have no solution.this is not right.this is extemely dangerous and something needs to be done to rectify this situation. Any help that you can offer would be very much appreciated.

I had to replace both headlight sockets as they melted like the recall i just read about on the crown victorias.

Both tail lights have burned holes through their outer casings. Therefore, when i brake there is no diffusion of the bulb, just the bright light of the bulb shining. Mechanics at my local ford dealership admitted the problem is caused by faulty wiring, which makes the bulbs burn too hot, resulting in the melting of certain areas of the protective casings. But after informing ford motor company of the issue, including sending pictures of the damage, i'm still being asked to pay for almost half of the repair; this when i didn't cause the problem and i'm still covered under the extended warranty package of up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. I've reviewed other complaints, and i'm not the first person to deal with this exact issue. Some have had ford cover the costs, as they should, as it is their equipment that is faulty. But others are in the same boat as me, waiting for the company to take responsibility for their product. As the consumer and a non-car expert, i have no grasp on the range of potential damage or hazard this problem poses.i don't know if burned bulbs and melted casings are the extent of the problem, or if i'm driving around with the chance of a fire looming.i just know i'm dealing with bad wiring, and nothing good comes of that.

Brake light bulbs burning out resulting in a loss of turn signals and brake lights . The connector is discolored due to high heat (current). Company is covering under warranty but has not issued a technical bulletin.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle in the garage, the contact discovered smoke coming from the garage. After driving the vehicle out of the garage, the contact saw smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. A fire report was filed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

My edge you have to put it in park after you start driving it to get it to go. Then it will drive ok for awhile then you have to do it again. I'm afraid that i'm going to get rear ended and get hurt. Im driving in town when this happened

The car has stalled while in drive three times over 2 months. It has occurred while driving at 10, 30 and 45 miles per hour. It is completely unsafe.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact turned the ignition on and the vehicle was able to start. The contact stated that the failure occurred approximately ten times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times. The technicians were unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The technicians performed a computer update but the vehicle continued to stall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the dealer could not duplicate the failure so no repairs could be made. The approximate failure mileage was 18,500.

I bought my 2009 ford edge brand new (7 miles on it) back in may 2009. For the past month or so it has been stalling out for no apparent reason. Have brought it to a ford dealership two times now and they can not find anything wrong with the car. I searched online and have found that many people have been having this problem but the dealership can not figure it out because they can not reproduce the stalling and no lights come on so the defect is never stored in the cars computer. Ford needs to get their [xxx]together! no wonder people refer to ford as found on road dead. Mine sure as [xxx]is. Now i have a 35 thousand dollar lawn ornament !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. The contact stated that the rear drivers side tail light and turn signals failed.the local mechanic inspected the tail light and found the light bulb socket burned due to an electrical failure.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate current and failure mileage was 60,000.

Continue right rear tail light burnout.plastic on blubs melted. Discoloration on socket. I now have about 100,000 mi on the car and have replaced 5 bulbs. I wrote a letter to ford and they rejected my complaint. This is a fire hazard. Industrial plastic melts at about 300 of.this is a design defect which ford is ignoring!i can provide photos of burned out bulbs and damaged socket. Left rear turn bulb svl 12v 3157.

I had to replace both headlight sockets as they melted like the recall i just read about on the crown victorias.

During normal highway operation the right rear taillight failed. Inspection of the failed component found the taillight socket had melted. There was no prior indication of circuit breakdown, ie: fuse blown, etc. All parts were factory installed as none had been previously replaced from new.

Rear left turn signal burnt out.replaced, but entire light assembly including turn signal, back up lights, and brake lights, and rear backup sensor not working now.replaced all bulbs and sockets for each and still not working.mechanic replaced wiring harness on turn signal and finally fixed the problem.burnt out bulb was black and charred and shorted out the entire drivers rear light assembly controls and sensors.

The taillight sockets melted without any warning in the dashboard. The socket platic is totally melted bad

Brake and turn signal light socket is burnt and charred.i have had to replace the bulbs at least every other month.i was told by ford that i must have used the wrong wattage bulb.internet searches suggest otherwise.there are countless other complaints regarding the extremely hazardous and dangerous issue.ford will not acknowledge that there is an issue or offer to pay the $100 to fix the problem.

Brake light bulbs burning out resulting in a loss of turn signals and brake lights . The connector is discolored due to high heat (current). Company is covering under warranty but has not issued a technical bulletin.

Driver's side, rear tail light/ turn signal was signaling fast, letting me know there was an issue. The next day, it no longer signaled abnormally. The following day it was fast again and no longer illuminating. When i went to replace the bulb, the socket was black and melted.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving at 55 mph, there was fuel leaking from the fuel tank near the seam weld. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.

Strong smell of gas in garage. Backed out , gas spot on concrete. Took to service garage. Gas tank is leaking at seam. Told not to park in garage or drive until fixed. Dangerous due to gas fumes and leakage.

Fuel tank leaking.not covered under current recall. Advised to get repairs made and keep receipts because recall may be expanded.

I can smell gas at the rear of my car.i had my struts serviced and the mechanic noticed corrosion and a fuel leak.he didn't want to drop the tank to get a closer look fr fear it would void a recall repair. I checked for a recall and noted there was one for certain 2009 edge's but my vin didn't show one.

"takata recall" i have been calling since june to get my car repaired. I was given a case number and then never contacted. I have called the 2 dealerships in colorado springs and was told they would get me in a rental car and yet they never have. I have called them every week and continue to get the same response stating they are working on it. I have called ford motor since june as well and get the exact same response. The airbag light on the vehicle is now on and i have a child that i will not put in this car as it has a recall on it. I have told the dealership about the light and they stated they will contact me when a rental is available.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. The contact stated that fuel fumes were present inside the vehicle. The dealer stated that the fuel tank was rusted and caused a fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2009 ford edge awd 80k miles strong gas smell and evidence of leak seen in driveway prompted visit to mechanic. Leak discovered coming from corroded seam of fuel tank on passenger side. No check engine light ever alerted me that there was a problem. Internet search revealed fuel tank recall of 128,000 ford edge and lincoln mkx cars built at oakville assembly plant between september 1th, 2008 through july 1st, 2010.my car was built at that plant at that time but i was never informed of the recall.(fomoco recall number: 15s31) i called ford and they said my car was not included in the recall.

I have a2009 ford edge that has had a strong odor of gas. I have it in the repair shop and i am being told that there is a hole/leak in the seal to the gas tank. There has been a recall for this same problem on 07 and 08 ford edge. The cost to repair this is going to be $1800.00 which would include tank, o ring and gasket. I would like to know if my 2009 ford edge can be placed on a recall for this problem. Driving home after i picked up the kids from school. I had a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin of my car. We were cr 108 not even a mile from my dirt road (willie hodges rd) i rolled down the windows, i have 3 kids, and made it home. I saw there was a recall on some 2009-2010 edges for faulty gas tanks. I looked up the vin and the only recall i have on my car is for air bags, which they have yet to resolve. I have a feeling my edge was installed a faulty fuel tank.

Smell of gasoline fumes noted coming from vents when vehicle is idle.has occurred on multiple occasions, at stop lights, when parked etc. Smell is obvious to anyone sitting in vehicle.must keep window opened for ventilation.no smell noted when vehicle in motion.

We were smelling gasoline in our garage and the smell was coming from car.the car was taken to a local shop where it was hoisted and a gasoline leak discovered at the "seam" of my gas tank.we were instructed to return the car to the dealership as it may have a recall and was clearly a manufacturer defect.my husband called avis ford who in fact instructed us to bring the car in.we had the car towed at our expense of over $80.00 only to get to the dealership and have them say there was an error and that the 2009 edge did not have a recall.there have been recalls on tanks on models from 2007 up to 2014 but apparently not the 09.the leak is apparently a manufacturer defect and not caused by damage to the tank from a foreign object striking it .it is terribly frightening to me to know that ford has not stepped up to the plate and maybe only a fatality would force them to so.i travel daily with a 30 month and 17 month old in my car and cannot imagine having to get them both out of 5 point restraint car seats in the event of a fire.is this what ford is waiting for to acknowledge the unacceptable danger of a gas tank leak.a recall needs to be issued in order to save lives.

Car is steering on it own. It also has a leak in the gas tank. Front airbags have a recall.

It started stalling, and losing power while driving. When the ac is turned on it started driving rough at low speeds but when the ac is off it runs rough at high speeds. The throttle body seems to beessed up it now runs rough and idles rough. It's almost like it doesn't have the correctfuel to air ratio.

We bought this vehicle a week ago. Every time we park in the garage there is a strong gas smell but no sign of leaking gas under the vehicle. 2008s were recalled for leaking seam in fuel tank but this one is not?

Fuel tank is leaking after refueling

Fred beans ford closed my recall on fuel tank corrosion and says its fine.ford wont do anything cause fred beans says its fine!

The 2009 ford edge i own has been experiencing slipping and surges in acceleration while trying to maintain a constant speed at a 45-55 mph range. While decelerating the transmission slips and revs up and down causing the car to jerk forward and/or suddenly slow or stop. There are numerous tsb for the 2009 ford edge transmission ( tsb 10-21-2, 10-17-4, 10-9-9, 13-5-27. However, the tsb's state that they only cover 2009 - 2011 models built 3/13/2009 - 6/30/2010. The tsb's explicitly indicate the 6f50 and 6f55 transmission. My 2009 ford edge has a 6f50 transmission that happens to be built on 10/24/2008 and therefore, ford is limiting its liability because a date range was placed on the tsb. Yet, my car exudes the same performance and flaws outlined in the numerous tsb's. As well, there are several other complaints on nhtsa related to the 2009 ford that ford is refusing to repair if it falls outside of the date range. This is a very shallow way of limiting liability and a lack of responsibility and ethics on fords part, imo. I would like to point out that tsb 10-9-9 covered 2009 ford edge built between 12/11/2009and 4/15/2010 and then tsb 10-21-2 extends the date range to 3/13/2009 through 6/30/2010. An investigation should consider if the 6f55 and 6f50 transmissions in general should be recalled. Given that my car meets all criteria other than a date for a well known defect, it appears ford has found a great way to circumvent liability on poor designs and manufacturing and place the financial burden and safety risk on the consumer. I am requesting that an investigation be initiated to expand the tsbs related to the 2009 ford edge to a recall on the transmissions in question, 6f50 and 6f55. Currently, fords only response is to request that i pay the repairs and keep the receipt in case the tsb expands to cover my manufacturing date. Complaining here is my resolution:)

Ford has a well known transmission issue. The ford edge will decide that it will not go into gear while in traffic, then when you restart it it resets and the problem seems to be gone. Someone is going to get killed. The transmissions hit hard or won't go into gear. These issues can't be fixed by the average consumer.. Transmission slips the you put the car into park or neutral and then it will go into gear, but i'm afraid i'm going to get hit.the car is in motion when it slips or skips or gets stuck. I don't really know what's happening.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to jerk without warning. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls for the failure. The contact was referred to nhtsa. A dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

My 2009 ford edge started to shift hard a few months ago.i noticed that at times the car would lurch forward when starting out and knock into the gear.. About two weeks ago the car started to whine at speeds around 50mph.last weekend there was a metal scraping sound when driving. My mechanic has diagnosed this as a transfer case problem.the unit needs to be replaced at 1600 dollars. After doing research, i have found that this is a know ford problem and have found many many complaints by consumers.this should be a recall by the manufacturer since it is obviously a problem that many people are having.

The power takeoff unit needed to be replaced. Based on other forums this seems to be a common issue with this vehicle.

I was slowly driving through a neighborhood when i could no longer accelerate when my vehicle was in drive. I eventually came to a stop. The transmission was not engaging. I kept trying to accelerate but i was unable to go anywhere. I put the car in park, then back to drive and it still did not work. I then resorted to turning off the car off and back on. At that point the vehicle did operate as usual. Since it happened i have read countless reports of this same issue in this vehicle with many complaints. This is a potentially deadly error from ford and their transmissions in this vehicle. I believe it is related to the sensors on the transmission. A recall needs to be issued immediately before someone gets killed in an accident because their car comes to a total stop on a busy interstate. Ford knows about the problem and has not addressed it.

Differential problems caused by using the manufacturer provided spare tire.spare tire is much smaller then tires required by the manufacturer, when spare tire was used it caused stress to the differential causing it to break. This is a well documented problem in the internet and should be fixed by the manufacturer. The manufacturer is assuring a costly break down of their vehicles by ignoring this problem. I ask anyone responsible to take appropriate action and force the manufacturer to pay for damages cause by their neglect.

The problem surfaced more recently over the last 5 to 6 thousand miles (current mileage 36,550) and is progressively getting worse.manifestation: on a reasonable incline, where most other vehicles i have tested do not roll back between the time the driver shifts the right offthe brake pedal and on to the accelerator while the gear is in "d" mode, the ford edge will roll back. Depending on the situation whether there is on coming cross traffic or not, one can depress the accelerator further and the car tends to slightly "shoot" forward. If there is cross traffic (vehicular or pedestrian) one must shift the foot back to the brake again very quickly, or else the car will roll back and hit whatever is behind. The roll back can, if allowed, continue for several feet depending upon the gradient. The dealer claims this issue to be normal for this transmission and has no fix for it.

Seats rock back and forth when not even accelerating much, and sun roofs have issues closing

Drivers seat rocks back and forth when accelerating or breaking. Research on the internet of other nhtsa reports show this from dealer reports to be a failure of the seat track with an estimated repair cost of $1100. Several 2009/2010 edge reports on this site. Most unsettling report was --> "during an accident last year the drivers seat brokefrom it's track".here is the $35 oem part that fails --> seat track 7t4z7866410fc. This happens enough where the part is routinely available on ebay.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving 35 mph, the brake booster malfunctioned without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the parking brake had to be engaged to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the brake booster was replaced. Planet ford in spring, texas was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13n02000 (service brakes). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000. The vin was not available.

Pedal went hard and down to the floor. Came close to rear ending car in front of me. From what i've heard this is a common issue and ford doesn't have a recall, although they do with newer years of the same model. Very dangerous and these cars should have a recall.. It's absurd that a brake booster should fail and not have a recall with a known deadly issue.

When driving the vehicle and needing to break the break padel will go all the way to the floor and almost not stop. Had break pads changed but the mechanic states there is a issue with the break line having air in them that cant be released. The car can not be driven safely. Would like someone to call me

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. The contact stated that the abs and traction control warning indicators randomly flashed. The brakes failed to function without force each time the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced both abs sensors. The dealer determined that there was no manufacturer recall to address the repair. The brake pedal was spongy when the indicator illuminated. When the indicator went off, the brakes failed to fully engage without applying force to the brake pedal. The dealer stated that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed to determine the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. Updated 11/06/17*lj

When driver depresses brake pedal it makes a hissing sound and driver has to use excessive force to stop the vehicle.

While approaching a stop light on a city street, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and vehicle made a high pitched whistling noise. Almost hit the vehicle stopped in front of me.

The break pedal goes straight to the floor which makes it hard to break in enough time which could cause a wreck. I went to a break shop and the breaks were changedbut the technician stated there is a issue with the abs system and he knew of a recall in the lincoln mkz for this problem. He stated the ford dealership would need to fix this and it should be recalled during this year model other ford models are recalled but not seeing it for the edge

When driving my 2009 ford edge with under 46,000 miles, the brake pedal has a spongy feel and it becomes quite difficult to use the brake at times. It also makes a hissy or squealing noise. At times is very, very hard to press the brake down to stop the car.my husband took the vehicle to an independent auto repairman. He said the brake booster was bad. It had failed.my husband talked with an independent auto repair person. He said i had a bad brake booster. My husband called the ford dealer and after running the vin number, he was told that my car did not qualify for a recall. The brake booster has failed. The car has under 46,000 miles on it. I have it scheduled to be repaired at my own expense as this is a dangerous driving situation.why did ford have an extended warranty coverage for the 2007-2008 and 2010-2015 edge models but omitted the 2009 models?

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was applied, but was stiff and failed to respond. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Not sure what takata inflators means i was i only typing what website asked of me to type on the first line of every page.

Extremely hard to press brake pedal. Can not stop suddenly. Ford dealer has confirmed brake booster went out

The vehicle, suddenly became very hard to stop. The brake pedal felt as though it was stuck and required a huge amount of pressure to slow the vehicle to a complete stop. Fortunately, we were going at a relatively low speed when the problem first occurred. However, we had driven from south florida to atlanta at highway speed without incident and suddenly the problem was there. Just prior to the hard braking, there was a loud whistling sound inside the vehicle, coming from under or behind the dashboard. It sound a though there was a vacuum leak, but the sound lasted only a short time. Later when i started the vehicle i heard the whistling sound again. I checked under the hood and dash but saw nothing obviously wrong.as the original owner of this vehicle, i was very surprised when the ford service rep in atlanta told what the problem was. This vehicle, currently has 40,650 miles on it. At the time of the incident the odometer read, 38, 648 miles. It cost me $658 to have the problem corrected.no way this type problem should occur at this mileage. Upon checking further, i found that ford had issued a customer satisfaction program (csp) 13n02 to address this very problem in model years 2010 through 2013. In speaking to ford they told me there was nothing that could be done, since my "vin" was not included in the csp. Ford further stated, if the nhtsa demeaned my problem to the same as the problem as covered in csp 13n02, and if there are enough complaints, then perhaps a new program would be initiated. And at that time i could be reimbursed for the repairs. In an online search i see there are others with this vacuum booster assembly failure. Also in the nhtsa database there are four others with newer vehicles experiencing this same problem.perhaps ford should asked to review this problem again.

"takata recall"have to press all the down for brakes to work. Doesnt do it all the time.

The brake booster which is a known problem on every ford edge from 2007 - 2013 started making a hiss or loud squeaking noise when pressure was applied to the brakes. For this 6 year ford has installed the exact same manufacturers part, but ford has only recalled some of these years despite the same issues occurring with every model year.after a while the noise intensified and then the brakes failed!!!sometimes the brakes would not engage until the pedal was mashed to the floor, sometimes they engaged as soon as the pedal was pressed.this creates a very dangerous environment.i own 3 different model ford vehicles, but this could be the last ford i purchase. I took the edge into a brake specialist and was told about this being a well known issue on the ford edge, but that i purchased the "wrong" year 2009 and this is the only model year not covered under the nhtsa recall.they have quoted me $925 to make the repairs.while i will do this repair since i will not put my family at risk we are very disappointed by ford's corporate negligence on this issue.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving 35 mph, the brakes malfunctioned without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal became stiff and nearly impossible to depress. The contact engaged the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Lenoir city ford of lenoir city, tennessee was contacted about the failure and determined that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, but the contact received a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call nhtsa and file a complaint due to the fact that there was no recall on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.updated 08/22/17*lj

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While operating the vehicle, the brakes would suddenly malfunction. While attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal would extend to the floorboard and the stopping distance was increased. The contact also heard a hissing noise coming from the front brake area. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 87,272.

Brakes are making a sound like its blowing air. The brake gets really hard to press the brake peddle while stopping, then gets really soft and i can push it all the way down. I have only owned my car for a couple of weeks and i have almost been in 2 accidents because of the brakes. Usually this happens while slowing down at traffic lights.

While driving in downtown detroit i was approaching a red light as i applied pressure to the brake pedal it was rock hard. Also, when applying the brake there is hissing sound. It was explained to me that the problem is the brake booster. Which the dealership will not cover. The estimate given by the dealership for the cost of the repair is $550.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. The contact stated that the brake booster failed, which prevented the power braking functionality. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. I applied the brakes at a stop light and it makes a hissing squealing notice.

Booster on car brakesno good, bought from car dealership less then 3 years ago

I have search the internet and there is a large reports of a power booster failure in certain years of this ford model. I searched my vin # and it was not included in the recall even though i read from others that had the same issue that i'm having now. The brake peddle at times is tough to press, like no play in it while i am trying to stop it is difficult. I have to pump the peddle to get it to work. This is very dangerous and i have read many others having the same experience.

The brake pedal on my 2009 edge began making a horrible noise and going right to the floor on occasion when pressed both when stationary or on the road. Within one week it continued to get worse with the noise getting louder and the pedal going to the floor more frequently.when we brought it into ford we were told that there was a recall on the booster assembly for the edge.once they entered the vin number we were told that our edge was built months before the recall date and that it would not be covered.we were charged $675.63 for the parts and labor and we were told to report it in case the dates were ever expanded to include our vehicle.

Need a brake boost replacement. Car making hissing sound and hard to stop. Brakes seem like they will fail and are dangerously hard to stop.

I have been taking my car for at least the past 3 years to have the brakes looked at. The pedal goes too far to the floor. I have taken it to 3 different dealerships to have the brakes looked at, only to be told there is no problem. I just had new front brakes and rotors put on august 2019. My son was driving the car to work this morning and had an accident going through a toll booth. He said when he pressed on the brakes the car just would not stop at a good rate, and the pedal was spongie. There needs to be a recall on the brake system for 2009 ford edges. I am not the only one with this complaint. Thank god nobody was injured, but what is it going to take to get this taken care of.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. When the brake pedal was applied, an abnormal noise was heard. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal each time the failure occurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from extended warranty coverage (13n02) for the brake booster, although the vehicle exhibited the same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.

I have a 2009 ford edge sel with 113,300 miles. I had been experiencing brake issues with squeaking and having to push the brake pedal down all the way with fear that the car would not stop. There were no warning signs or warning lights and just came out of the blue. It would happen whether i was just driving slow or faster on any type of road or weather condition. I saw ford put an extra warranty on edges from 2010-2013 regarding the same issue via 13n02. I have read a lot of complaints from years previous and after this extended warranty. I think this should be looked into as i have a young son who i drive to school a lot and since there was no warning about brake failure i'm just thankful nothing bad happened. I took it to a mechanic and was told it was the master cylinder and a bad power brake booster. Thank you.

The brake pedal started with a spongy feel but now has become very hard at times to press. The service technician told me the brake booster is failing. He advised me to check with ford to see if the brake booster was covered since other vehicles with similar problem had a recall or service warranty. Ford motor company was not will to cover it due to it did not fall under there recall for the 2009 model year but covers model year 2007 - 2008 then 2010 - 2013. My vehicle was place in the shop to have the defective part replace at my expense.

Brakes seem to fail to engage, sometimes they are hard to press and then will go all the way to the floor. Sometimes the engage really hard and cause me to snap forward hard. I talked to ford and they say there are no current recalls or issues with the braking system. Vehicle moving and also when idling at stop sign i have to put in neutral to prevent the car from moving.

Break boosters are not working, can not stop.called ford said my car isn't covered just the ford f150.i have to slam down on my breaks to slow the car down then it eventually comes to a stop.it is not safe to drive.

While pressing brake pedal is making hissing noise and car becomes hard to stop.

The brake pedal has a spongy feel and you can hear an audible "hissing" noise inside the car.the noise will go away as you apply different pressures to the brake pedal, but then will come back as soon as you maintain the same level of pressure.there is a know customer satisfaction program 13n02 (extended warranty for brake booster), and after reading the description and details of the program, the symptoms are identical.i called the dealer and after running the vin number, i was told that my car did not qualify. I also know that it is not another brake component as the vehicle has brand new front and rear rotors, front and rear pads, and brand new brake fluid in the system.it is not very difficult to deduce that there's some type of vacuum leak (or air leak) when you hear hissing noises coming from the car.vehicle is still driving, but problem continues to get worse and from what i've read on the internet, the brake booster will eventually fail and could cause a dangerous driving situation.

When driving the vechicle at any speed when needing to break the break pedal will go to the floor the car is unable to driven safely and could cause a wreck. Went and had the brakes changed to see if they would help mechanic stated that he orginally believed their was air in the line but he stated he was unable to resolve the issue and knew that the lincoln suv had this same issue and was recalled. If someone could call me to discuss the issue that would be great

I contacted the nhtsa in may of 2009 because ford motor company refused to honor my warranty and give my a car that was drivable. I purchased a brand new ford edge with 45 miles. The contact owns a 2009 ford edge.the contact stated that the suspension was faulty and the brakes failed.when she depressed the brake pedal at 8 mph, she heard a loud grinding noise and the vehicle would not stop.if the abs had not engaged, she would have been unable to stop completely.the dealer test drove the vehicle and could not find any failures.the contact informed them that the suspension needed to be repaired first and then the vehicle should be test driven at over 40 mph in order to duplicate the failure.the dealer informed the contact not to bring the vehicle back.the failure mileage was 4,020.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. The contact stated that while coming to a stop sign and depressing the brake pedal, it extended to the floorboard.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was 10,000.

Car is steering on it own. It also has a leak in the gas tank. Front airbags have a recall.

I have only had edge since 2017 and i purchased it out right and i am noticing some things that are not right. Hard to stop and wobbling wheel on front driver side and makes like a rubbing noise. Brakes on it our wearing out alot faster and i have already had a blowout on highway on that tire and they had to tow it and it cost me almost $500 to get it out and its tread is getting worn down alot faster as well. I seen on here that there is a spindle issue?

First when is the recall going to happen.how much longer does this safety hazard have to exist.it could kill me and everyone in the vehicle but yet nothing has been done.driver side airbag.your steering is a job.the power steering pump is horrid - bad bad.

My car tried to get siriusxm radio activated but never could get it to work it stated dysfunctionall something can't remember. Is there been a recall on these cars for this reason.

Booster on car brakesno good, bought from car dealership less then 3 years ago

Ford edge 2009 stalling.called customer satisfaction programand was told byvehicle manufacture date & place where it was manufactured, that there tno issues.vehicle cannot sit in idle for longer then 5 minutes and stalls.afraid to take on highway due to so many people having stalling issues.obviously ford does not want to stand behind their customer satisfaction.this is a 2009 and has only 109,000 miles on it.cannot be driven without it stalling 3 times in a matter of an hour.as ford is well aware, this is due to a faulty throttle body.they suggest bringing it into dealer for a diagnostic, of which they are fully aware that it does not show up on the diagnostic readings.just a reason for them to charge you for a test that will show nothing.this issue has been going on for over a year now. Started out as a stall once every 4-5 mins, but is now a daily occurrence when the vehicle is driven.

The passenger door ajar lightstays on and won't go off and the doors will not lock. This happens when i start my car , drive my car and will only go off when i turn off the engine.in my opinion this constitutes a major safety hazard what with the doors not locking.

The contact owns a 2009 ford edge. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact began to smell an unfamiliar odor. A passenger began to feel sick because of the odor. The contact pulled over and 30 minutes later, the odor was present again. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 27,000.

Vista sun roof plastic clips broke now sun roof will not close. Tried closing the sun roof and the plastic pice broke off and hit my arm. There are literally thousands of complaints on line about this same problem with the sunroof and it costs $1400-$3000 to fix because of 1 litlle plastic clip breaking

It started stalling, and losing power while driving. When the ac is turned on it started driving rough at low speeds but when the ac is off it runs rough at high speeds. The throttle body seems to beessed up it now runs rough and idles rough. It's almost like it doesn't have the correctfuel to air ratio.

I have a 2009 ford edge limited and about two weeks ago, i noticed that an orange wrench light appeared and then my car would loose power. It never completely shut off but it would no longer accelerate and begin slowing down until it completely stopped. It happened to me during rush hour traffic when i was getting off the highway. This problem could have caused an accident! i took my edge into the ford dealership today for a fuel tank recall and told them about this problem. I got a phone call from ford a few hours later explaining that the issue was related to the vehicles throttle body that needs to be replaced. Its going to cost over $600 for them to replace it! i went online and discovered that several other ford edge owners are having the exact same problem and are told they need to replace the throttle body. This should be made a recall after having seen so many other complaints over the issue!

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)there have been no crashes or deaths yet, however i want to report an unsafe and dangerous condition that i can not get ford motor co to recognize in my 2009 ford edge vin:[xxx]. At duskand other lighting conditions that simulate dusk the instruments and speedometer in particular, can not be seen. This is an unsatisfactory condition that ford says"falls within our specifications. Please help!

The instrument panel contrast is inadequate in my 2009 ford edge.the gray background does not provide adequate contrast in many daylight situations to allow safe review of speed along with fuel level, engine temp, and rpm.the primary concern is that the driver must turn attention from the road to try to read the gauges in daylight conditions thus creating a potentially unsafe operating condition.i have reported the problem to ford and my local dealer.the local dealer has indicated that he has received other complaints about this condition, but at this time there is no resolution offered by ford.ford indicates this vehicle operates within the specifications for make/'model.the night time readability is good.this is only a daylight issue under differing levels of ambient light.

Not sure what takata inflators means i was i only typing what website asked of me to type on the first line of every page.

I purchased the 2009 ford edge sport on august 29, 2009.i first experienced air leakage from my rims in december 2009 and i took the car to tom wood ford in january 2010.i had the car back to tom wood several times and in october 2010 ford replaced all 4 wheels with new ones.however i have continued to have the air leakage during cold weather.i had to take the car to a tire shop and realized this is a defect with these wheels.every 4 to 6 months they have to have the tire removed and the wheel cleaned of the corrosion that develops on the inside of the rim.ford has refused to fix this problem and it affects all 2009 ford edge sports with the 22 inch wheels.this is a safety issue and can cause handling issues.in fact in january 2014 i had to purchase a new tire because the amount of air lost from my indicator going off and me getting to a spot i could add air damaged the tire beyond repair.
