Whenvehicle was in motionair bag indicator light flashed on and off.dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.

Strongly feel ford is responsible for fixing this air bag malfunctioning indicator light safety issue.i am the original owner, the car has been well maintained with no accidents.this concerns me greatly that the air bag light keeps coming on.the local ford dealer was contacted and said the problem is out of warrantly (5 yrs or 50k miles).they said it would cost $80 to trouble shoot let alone fix.this is unacceptable.it is a safety issue and manufacturers defect problem that ford service department should cover.your advice and input is greatly appreciated.

On june 28, 2000, my wife made a left hand turn. As she was turning the engine went completly dead, power steering goes out and a yellow liquid shoots out from the steering column on to the dashboard and on my wife's legs causing the skin to burn. This was accompanied with noxious fumes causing my wife and two other passengers to cough and to evacuate the van. The van started back up after this incident. On july 2 & 3, 2000 we took the van to a1 auto care in hobe sound, fl. They checked for potiential antifreeze line leaks, checked the air bag components and discovered some of the yellow liquid on the steering column. They were unable to see anything wrong with the air bag itself. They called the ford tech. Support line and could not come up with anything similar to this situation. On july 6, i called the ford corp.they documented the event and did some research to see if similar incidents have happened. They claim to have nothing on record. They suggested that i contact nhtsa. On august 7, 2000, the same incident happened to the van again. This is a very serious situation. The yellow liquid causes burning of the skin and the fumes causes one to choke. There is definitely a defective part relating the air bag system. I know individuals to report about the yellow noxious liquid after their airbag deployed in an accident.

While driving down the highway a vehicle pulled out in front of the consumer's vehicle, and the consumer broadsided the vehicle.consumer's airbag deployed but didn't stay up, causing injuries to the driver.consumer has contacted the dealer about the incident.

The ignition module was replaced.the tie rods needed to be replaced which failed while the consumer was driving. The cruise control stopped workingand the abs, air bag and engine lightsilluminated.

The contact owns a 1996 ford econoline.after the vehicle had been parked for 24 hours, it burst into flames.there were no prior warnings.the fire was extinguished by the fire department.the insurance investigator stated that the fire was caused by something electrical in the engine compartment.the vehicle was destroyed and towed.personal items that were in the yard were burned and damaged.the vehicle was repaired last november for nhtsa campaign id number 06v286000 (vehicle speed control).the cruise control never worked properly after the repair was made.the current and failure mileages were 157,000. Engine stops at a low speed.please describe.

The morning of 23 dec 2006 around 5:00 am, my 1196 ford econoline conversion van caught on fire in the engine compartment for no apparent reason. Due to the intense heat my home suffered fire damage as well. There were no known mechanical or electrical problems with the van. It was running like a champ until this incident.

The contact owned a 1996 ford econoline.the contact stated that the vehicle caught fire on january 14, 2008 while parked in the driveway.smoke appeared from the engine and front passenger seat.the fire department extinguished the fire and filed a report.the vehicle was destroyed.the contact received ford recall notice number 05s28 the first week in may of 2008.the current and failure mileages were 122,000.

On sunday morning at about 6 am the alarm of our van went off.it woke us up. The engine of the van was on fire.we called the 911 and the fire department came.my husband tried to use the fire extinguisher but he could not open the hood.the fire department put out the fire.the last time i drove the van was about 8:30 pm on saturday night.it was fine then while it was burning it sounded like it was trying to start.one fireman said that sound was from the wires burning or something like that. It is a 1996 ford [xxx]ford e 350 limited regencythe mileage was about79362. A sticker on the windshield says built with pride econoline by loraind ohio assembly uaw 425 2000. We are very thankful for the car alarm.we were not due to wake up until an hour later. We think it is totaled because the whole front side is burned and the windshield broke.all the seats are still in good shape. The police came to the scene but when we went to get the report we found that the police man did not make a report.he didn't even speak to us.later we learned that shift change happens that time of morning.(a police man who goes to our church told us about the shift change)he didn't know why a report was not taken.updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Reported to ford customer service that the oil pan in the vans and trucks are starting to rust out from the inside.ford will do nothing about the problem.they admitted on the phone (greg tredwell) in vestal, ny that in 96 and 97 they were made out of recycled material and that is why they are rusting out and need to be replaced.why hasn't there been a recall on this problem?

A reoccurring failureof a timing gearat 64,000 miles. First, occurred at 55,000 miles. Repaired at an independent repair shop with dealer's part. Believed nhtsa should look into at this as a defective parts.

My ford e-150 van, after being driven about 1 hour earlier, burst into flames while parked in my driveway. A forensic investigation identified the speed deactivation control switch located on the master brake control cylinder. This is the same switch as in 93 lincoln towncars and many other ford cars and trucks. It was designed by texas insturments to be wire as switched but ford installed it as wired always hot. Please investigate. This will cause millions of dollars of property damage and could injure many people. These vehicles can burst into flames at any time or in anybody's garage. Please contact me if you would like a copy of the forensic report i paid for. Thanks, and please don't park your ford in your garage.

Without any warning the vehicle stalled on the highway while driving 60 mph.the incidentoccurred four times since the consumer has owned the vehicle. Front disk brake calipers stick and cause the vehicle to pull.

Steering problems in the vehicle front end, often several hours of highway driving, cracked brake rotor on the left front wheel, replace rotor.

Van was slowing getting up speed then surged while parking and did not stop when brakes were applied.the van hit a parked pickup and pushed it up the parking lot embarkment. The abc light came before the accident.

Anti lock brakes failed.

Abs light comes on when driving and when you apply the brakes the pedal goes to the floor. Design is not working properly. Please describe details.

Dash board "abs" light comes on and stays on intermittently.since vehicle has low mileage but is out of warranty for time, ford motor company estimates $750.00 to repair however do not think that a component of this nature should fail at this low mileage since the vehicle is used in very light duty as evidenced by mileage shown since purchased in june 1996.

The problem starts when the van starts pulling right intermittently.the abs light starts coming intermittently on and when it comes on the vehicle starts driving straight.the light goes out and it starts pulling again.when braking it pulls hard right.the hydraulic control unit has been replaced at least 4 times and will drive good for 5000 miles. It has failed again.after driving several miles you can feel the front right rotor is significantly hotter than the left.

Abs light intermittently comes on/goes out. Consumer had vehicle inspected/repaired by an independent dealer, and the problem still occurs. Dealer/mfr. Not notified at this time.

Whileat a stop the van accelerated on its own and overrode the brakes. This problemcaused a crash in april of 1997 and several near misses.dealer was not able to duplicate problem, and find out what was causing the problem. Please provide any further information.

The abs will not engage when braking during a emergency situation or a sudden stop. The vehicle has been to a repair shop on two separate occasions. The mechanic replaced the front pads and both front rotors and the problem continued.

I bought the van when it was 2 yrs. Old in dec. 1998, by that summer i had to replace both front rotors because of cracks, and i have had to do this every year since.the van is not used on a daily basis so i am wondering about a possible defect for this to be happening every 2-3,000 miles.ford shows no recalls on this model, but the garage that has changed the rotars every time says it is not normal with so few miles between each time it happens.

This makes the 2nd time i have reported this, please respond to this!..... I have had many occasions when traveling the california freeways, when wet, and the rear drums/shoes get wet and become innoperative. I have been a repair tech on all systems of brakes, technical and simple, and find there to be a design flaw in the backing plate/relationship to the rear drums which allow water mist to enter and wet the rear shoes. I am not talking about deep puddles or gully-washers, just a light drizzle will produce this problem. When brought to fords attention, they said they have not expeirianced this with any one else, and must be my driving habbits. Well, it doesn't rain all that much, and at slower speeds, say under 35, it does not seem to happen. It is apparant when just the front wheels lock up, and the rear will not even respond to the emergency brakes, you know the rear are wet and need to be dried out like in the olden days. I see it as a safety condition, and actually rear ended a lady and had to pay for her rear bumper, fortunately, she didn't have any neck injuries, as of this day in may 20002. It has been a little over a year. Please respond to this letter. Rick wolff. 714- 821-5678 thanks.

On june 25th i changed the battery on my 1996 ford e150 because the battery was dead. About a half an hour later i heard the alarm going off. When i went outside there was white smoke coming out from under the hood. I raised the hood and the sending unit on the master cylinder for the cruise control was smoking and the white smoke was increasing by the second. I pulled the wires that were leading to it and the smoked started to disapate. The vehicle was not running and the ignition was turned off. On june 29, i was watching the jane pauly show on cnn. They were reporting about a problem with this same part on the ford f150 pickups. I believe that if my alarm had not sounded my vehicle would have caught on fire like the pickup trucks in the report. As of yet i still have not repaired the vehicle and all parts are as they were on the day of the incedent. If you would like i will leave the vehicle this way so you can inspect the problem if you would like. Please contact me asap so i know how to proceed.

First time: pulling out of parking lot. Steering wheel jumped off center. At dealer when mechanic said nothing wrong. At home when steering wheel became difficult. Steering gear started to move. Managed to get to dealer & mechanic saw 2 of 3 bolts sheared off & repaired it. Second time: leaving parking lot when a loud snap was heard. Pulled over. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Had no steering control. Towed to dealer. Mechanic said no bolts at all on steering wheel.

The roof on my 1996 ford econoline with mounted rack has paint that has peeled off and beginning rust, especially around the rack and edges of roof.it is a blue metallic paint and is separating from the primer, which i understand is a defect known as delamination caused by defective primer and normal environment condition of ultraviolet exposure, a defect that was latent from the date it was painted and has now become very apparent.estimate to repair roof is $1220.80mileage is 55,834.

Springs defective causing premature wear of the tires.

While traveling at 45 mph, i lost the ability to steer the vehicle. This truck was a 4wd conversion which was done by a company called quigley, in manchester, pa. This conversion was approved by ford and the truck was purchased with the conversion. After the steering fell apart, i was unable to control truck and had an accident. Approximately six months later, the truck, again, went out of control after hitting a slight dip in the road. Upon further investigation with the dealer, who called quigley, quigley said they knew about the problem as it had happened on their ambulance 4wd conversions. There was a kit they could supply that would fix this problem. I purchased the kit , which was a stabilizer kit, and had the dealer install it and have not had a problem since. I met some emt's from riddle memorial hospital, outside media, pa. And they were driving a 4wd ambulance conversion van from ford and quigley. I asked them if they ever experienced what i did and they said they did, that their supervisor had to send the ambulances back to quigley, and finally, quigley was able to find out the problem and install a stabilizer kit. I have since met other people with ford vans and quigley 4wd conversions, who have had the same problems. Something should be done about this as i was lucky and wasn't killed, but it is a known problem with the quigley conversion. Its even more of a danger when ambulances, full of people, go out of control because of this problem. The loss of control of my van caused an accident in which six people could have died. The disturbing thing about this is that quigley knew of this problem but did not let anyone know. The stabilizer kit cost me about $ 400.00. A small price to pay for vehicle safety..

I have suffered two complete tread separations on two firestone fr480 tires, size 235/75r15xl. These were replacement equipment on my 1996 ford econoline 150 custom van. Both failures occured on interstate at moderate speeds (60 - 65 mph) in the evening after the heat of the day. First failure occured 10/21/1999. The second failure occured 7/25/00.
