While driving along on the freeway consumer's vehiclewas hit head on at the rear wheel.upon impact, both passenger's side and driver's side air bags deployed.consumer read inmanual that this should not have happened. Consumer has sustained body injurieswhich caused him to be all black and blue all over.

My dad was just in an accident where an suv hit his 99 crown vic near the right front tire.the hood looks like a crumpled piece of paper.he has injuries to the chest and ribs from the steering wheel and cuts on his leg from the dash.air bag didn't deploy.car was totaled.he was hit at such speed, the car spun around and hit the rear as well.accident was last week in florida city, fl.

I had problems with the "battery" light.it would come on and stay on.the car was retruned to the dealer several times.the last time the dealer told me that they knew what the problem was and would order a part and that the car was "safe" to drive in the meantime.not so.the car had loss of electrical power and engine shutdown.engine shutdown, loss of power steering, loss of hydraulic brake and loss of vehicle control.the car was town into the dealer that night.they deny knowing there would be any "problem."see your nhtsa recall no. 94v056/ford recall no. 94s83.different year and region. (1) driving on interstate highway car engine suddenly lost power while changing lane. Was almost hit from behind but luckily the other car was able to stop.(2) the engine in my car, '99 ford crown victoria, had blown a spark plug.(3) repair involved changing the cylinder head in the engine or replace the whole engine that i opted to do.at first i thought this is just a single incident but i later learned that there are a lot of people who have experienced the same mainly on ford pick-up trucks but also on other vehicles with the same engine / cylinder head design. A ford dealer who did the work for replacing the engine said they have not heard about this before. I have later also learned that a lot of people experience the same with ford, i.e. They claim not knowing about the issue but they must as so many people have complained about this.in my lifetime i have always believed that car engines wear out over time. It is not a normal mode of failure that car engine blows spark plugs and causes thousands of dollars of unexpected cost to consumers like me. Nearly $5000 'christmas present' was not in my plans.what does it take to get ford to stand behind their product in this case?as it might not sound a safety issue at first just think what might happen if a spark plug blows during a passing of another vehicle on a 2-lane highway when another vehicle is approaching in not so far distance? it becomes a safety issue in a hurry!about this issue can be read in the interned. Jus search blown spark plug and it's all in front of you.thank you,ari rousu

Headlights, taillights and all interior dash lights flash off for periods of up to 30-45 seconds at a time while driving. Lighting control module has been replaced twice at substantial cost. Battery light comes on intermittently and stays on for a long period of time, which leads to a shutdown while driving, vehicle been to the dealer on two occasions, andproblem still reoccurring.

Due to a defective alternator vehicle surges fowards or backwards. When occupant was in reverse positionvehicle suddenly surged backward, hitting another person and causing serious injuries.please provide further information.

Horn failed to sound after pressure was applied to the steering wheel. Dealer has been contacted.dealer states there is nothing wrong.

Battery light comes on intermittently and stays on for a long period of time, which leads to a shutdown while driving, vehicle been to the dealer on two occasions, andproblem still reoccurring.

While driving, the engine suddenly and without warning shut off.this meant i had no power, no power steering, and no control.the engine started again when i used the starter. Car acted normally until the next day the same thing occurred.this is a very serious safety problem. If it happened in heavy traffic or the interstate a very serious accident could occur.the dealer has not been able to duplicate the problem and so refuses to take any action.ford will not authorize any corrective action either.i feel the care is unsafe to drive until some coreective action is taken.

Burning smell under dash)when brakepedal and/or door was open. Eventually, i couldn't start the car as the 'brakelights' would not come on.i called the ford dealer in a rage that they had idiot lights for everything else,. And as far as i knew, hand signalswere still legal, they told me to turn the ignition 1 click, put the car in neutral, then i would be able to start the car.after bringing the car to a certified electrical mechanic,he stated that ford put the shortest, tightest wire connecting the brakepedal and after constant applications the wire snapped. But the brake lights went out again, this time a different connection was bad and arching, causing the wires to burn.however, during this time, the dome, courtesy, and headlights would come on/off periodically and at any given time, as if it was possessed.i finally pulled the interior lights out so it would not drain the battery.the latest experience was the windshield wipers would shut off in the open position and the blinker lights would go on/off, sometimes just about on or fully lit.it turned out to be the blinker/arm unit was bad.since that was just replaced, i am hoping that unit was the problem and there will be no more electrical problems.

My parents picked my daughter up from the school bus and proceeded down my driveway slowly. The vehicle suddenly accelerated even as my father had both feet on the brake. There were visible signs of the front wheels dragging up debris as the front wheels were locking up. He attempted to shift into neutral and turn the key but was unable to do so as the vehicle must have reached a speed in excess of 50 mph before he slammed it into park and then ran head on into a tree. Both parent were injured severely even with the air bags deploying. The car was destroyed.

Under normal driving conditions at approximately 25 mph i began to smell a sweet burning scent that i quickly recognized as coolant. I pulled over & inspected the engine compartment. The first thing i observed after removing the plastic facia from the top of the engine was a crack in the water temperature sensor housing right in front on the top passenger side of the intake manifold. I was less than a block from my home so i drove home and had it towed into harvey's auto the next day. [xxx] has told me that there was a recall on this intake manifold and as the original owner i should have been notified about this recall. I was never informed of any recalls. [xxx] placed a temporary weld which has held up just fine, however he said that there are several other issues with the structural integrity of fords original design and that ultimately the manifold will fail at these weak points with time. I don't put heavy miles on my vehicle &only have 41,102 miles on it now. All services have been performed at 3000 mile intervals from authorized mechanics. I have all receipts of my service records and feel that the only reason i didn't experience a failure earlier is because of my diligent efforts to follow the recommended service intervals set forth in the vehicles maintenance log. I feel that it was and still is the responsibility of ford to seek out all owners until each vehicle has been repaired. The of recall expired in 2009 according to ford customer service but i feel that there should have been more effort by ford motors to inform all owners of this defect. I would appreciate it if ford would accept responsibility for selling a known faulty item and extend and honor their original recall reparations for my vehicle. I did my part in following all service requirements and they should as well. Thank you for your assistance and time.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The car leaks anti-freeze throught the plastic manifold. Who ever heard of a plastic manifold. The original part is a defective part-made of the wrong material.ford needs to recall this part, it causes havic constantly needs to add coolant. The thermostat cannot be changed because the plastic housing is one piece with the manifold.

On numerous occasions the spark plugs have shot out causing damage to the coil pack and threads to the block. This is a 200$ to 300$ fix each time.getting to be a hassle.

Engine on my car just stopped working and when towed to facility the mechanic informed me the engine was gone. Warranty people came to look at the vehicle and stated i used bad gasbecause carbon had built up on the rings and would not honor warranty. All fluids were clear and car has been properly maintained.

Intake manifold crackcausing a major coolant leak and engine malfunction cause coolant running to last spark plug hole in passenger side. Engine size 4.6 8cyl. Same as my explorer 2002.

The contact owns a 1999 ford crown victoria. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph he smelled anti freeze. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was advised that there were no recalls on the vehicl. He had previously received a recall letter for the intake manifold but the dealer did not perform the recall repair. The vehicle had three transmission replacements for this failure, two by the dealer and one the contact . He stated that there was anti freeze all over his engine.he stated he has taken the vehicle to the dealer three times and they advised him that he has to pay for the repairs.the dealer stated the failure was due to the intake manifold.the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 142,000.

I began noticing problems with my 1999 crown victoria in early 2005.my check engine light kept coming on and it kept using a lot of coolant.a ford technician told me during a recent repair that it needed another "intake manifold" and that it would cost me $800 to fix it at the dealership.i asked him if it was covered under any warranty and i was told no.the other night i was driving down i-35 headed towards dallas when the high temperature gauge started going off.i slowed down and pulled over and when i opened the hood, there was coolant spraying from the front of the intake manifold (near the thermostat).i was able to cool the car down by putting water in the radiator.however, i had to do this every couple of miles because the water kept shooting out of the top of the engine.i finally got to a well lit area and was able to isolate the leak.there is a gash in the intake manifold approximately 2 inches long.i just checked the internet for solutions to my problem and i found out that ford was sued in a class action lawsuit for their defective plastic intake manifolds.it turns out, my vehicle is one of the vehicles that was covered in the class action suit.(and, it was covered when ford told me it wasn't!!!)so i called ford to have them come pick up my vehicle and repair it.now they tell me i have to pay for it myself!? could someone please help me?i don't think i should have to pay for something that ford already knows is a defective part.i mean, who would make engine parts out of plastic anyway?i don't know if anyone can help me but if you can, please let me know.i have taken the rest of the week off work so i can try to resolve this.thank you.

Defective intake manifold is was made of a cheap plastic..

1999 ford crown victoria blew out original spark plug and a fire was ignited as the fuel vapor was ignited by the coil pack.

Reference odi id 752976 - i had a similar experience and failure of the same equipment and parts described in the refereneced complaint.these are latent design/material/manufacturing defects.i was originally told, under warranty, that the shudder was due to the traction control sensors.this apparently was incorrect.now that the vehicle is just over 100,000 mi, ford will do nothing to correct this defect.the dealer to their credit is trying to correct the shudder problem by servicing the transmission with additives.the intake manifold cracking is a design/material defect which was finally discovered after the warranty period although i had complained about coolant odor several times while in warranty.ford split the difference with me on the cost of repair, they should have sholdered the entire cost.now we have another problem which ford, according to the service supervisor is unwilling to correct.there is a serious problem with the brake booster, it has a tendency to crack internally and cause a hard pedal.this defect was discovered on my wife's mercury sable at about 38,000-mi and now is be exhibited on my crown victoria.catastrophic failure of this component at high speed could cause an accident, loss of control in a panic stop because the driver would have to exert an unusual amount of of pressure on the pedal to apply the brakes and activate the abs.i was told that ford as a general policy will not do anything to correct problems on vehicles over 100,000 mi.the manufacturer should not have indemnity relief on safety issues and latent defects.

The thermostat housing is leaking causing a bad odor inside the vehicle resulting in the driver becoming nauseous depending on the severity of the leak.nlm

I own a 1999 ford crown victoria with 79,514 miles on it.approximately 2 months ago, i started experiencing problems with the engine running hot but not overheating and what appeared to be a coolant leak.i immediately replaced the radiator hose.it did not help.i took the vehicle to have the oil changed and asked that the coolant system be pressure tested for leaks.it was determined that the increased temperature of the engine had caused the thermostat housing to crack and it was also diagnosed to need the intake manifold replaced.i parked the vehicle for the next 2 1/2 months.due to financial obligations, i could not afford the repair which was estimated to be $750 -850.now that i am able to make the repairs, a call to a local ford dealer made me aware of the fact that the intake manifold was defective, however since my vehicle was put in production in december 1999, i had missed the recall deadline.i have owned this vehicle for almost 3 years.in that time, i have not received any information on the recall or the class action suit against ford.my vehicle has had maintenance performed by local ford dealers at which time, i was never made aware of the faulty part.i don't feel as though this is fair.i was not made aware of this factory defect, nor warranty extension to have it replaced.if i had been aware, i would have had the part replaced.now, because of failure by the manufacturer to inform the consumer of this defective part and the recall, i am forced to pay to have this defective part replaced. This is an unexpected expense that will definitely cause a strain on my family finances.not only that, upon calling to get the price of the intake manifold, i was informed that i missed the extended warranty deadline for my vehicle (december 2005).i do not think this is fair.i would like to know if i can pursue action to have my expenses reimbursed and if not, how can i pursue legal action.respectfully, otha farris, jr.

I own a 1999 ford crown victoria police package with 160,000 miles on it now,i bought it in 2003 with 145,000 miles on it, on october,10,2005 the plastic intake manifold starting leaking water from the back of the manifold from a crack in it,i have talked to numerous ford dealers about this, and they give me the run around saying it is out of warranty, and i was told a new one would cost 800.00 dollars, that is a real rip off, a intake manifold should last the life of the engine,i will never buy a ford vehicle again.

The thermostat housing is leaking causing a bad odor inside the vehicle resulting in the driver becoming nauseous depending on the severity of the leak.nlm

My car has 98501 miles on it and the plastic intake manifold is cracked with coolant seeping into the spark plug chamber, per ted britt ford in va.i believe that the cause of the crack is a latent defect in the plastic manifold.i would like to have ford replace it free of charge since it was a latent defect of the manufacturer.i also believe that this condition was there since i purchased the car (original owner), because during the early part of my ownership of the vehicle, there was always a faint odor of coolant in the passenger cab.this was also reported and documented with the service adviser early in my ownership of this vehicle.

I have 2 crown victoria sedans and both have "spit" spark plugs out of their respective cylinder heads.i am neither amused by these occurrences nor satisfied when i spoke with ford customer service. Listed below is the last time this incident occurred - the 4th blown plug.

Engine #3 cylinder valve seat failed.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Repeated trips to dealer in new hampshire could not fix problem which is causing "check engine light" to come on.

While driving lost all engine power, butengine never stalled.when stepping on gaspedal nothing happened. It happened before on a incline hill, and could not holdvehicle fromrolling back. Then, took vehicle to dealer, and they did not find anything. Consumer believed problem was traction control.

While drivingvehiclejust totally stopped and died, consumer felt this was unsafe if it happened in traffic, someone could be killed.

Intake manifold cracked, resulting in loss of coolant. This failure was due to a design flaw. Dealership installed an upgraded design manifold.

Rear bumperhas a large vertical crack in it whereexhaust pipe comes from underneath the vehicle.consumer feels that heat fromexhaust pipe has caused this crack, and changed stability of the bumper.please provide any additional information / attachments.*aik

Consumer tookvehicle to dealer for inspection, andmechanic noticed thatintake manifold cracked, allowing fluid to leak onto the engine.

My intake manifold went bad.this is a known issue and a lawsuit was filed.it cost me $1,600 and ford won't reimburse me.

Consumer experienced problems with the floor mat on the driver's side.ts.the floor mat moved around and became stuck to the hooks which were embedded in the floor and were flat from normal wear.consumer wasunable to hook the floor mat on the apparatus, therefore the floor mat slid under the accelerator.scc.

Air conditioning(a/c) emits an odor and causes mold build up.dealer replaced heater core and a/c evaporator, but problem was corrected only temporarily.consumer is allergic to mold.

Consumers received nhtsa recall 000200000/ manufacturer's recall 00s13/ jacking instructions. Consumer said recall seemed to be incomplete because it did give what type of block to use to change the tires.dealer or manufacturer do seem to be interested in the matter. It did state thatif not properly done vehicle could fall down on the person.

When driving on the interstate at 75 mph the exterior lights as well as the dash lights shut off. They then came back on after about a minute and a half. The lights intermittently shut off and come back on at random. I can be on the interstate or on a city street. I can be going forward or backwards when this happens. This is a huge safety issue.

The contact owns a 1999 ford crown victoria.the contact experienced issues with the exterior lighting in her vehicle.the turn signals, tail lights, and hazard lights stopped working.the headlights and reverse lights were still operable.both the dealer and manufacturer stated that she would have to pay for them to inspect the vehicle.the current mileage was 78,634 and failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Headlights, taillights and all interior dash lights flash off for periods of up to 30-45 seconds at a time while driving. Lighting control module has been replaced twice at substantial cost. Light switch replaced twice. This is a safety hazard at any speed. Ford is non cooperative. I am a police officer, this is a personally owned police interceptor vehicle.

I received a letter saying the lighting system was recalled and i was to receive a notice in the mail as to when i could come in for service. I have not received that said notice and my lights are not repaired.

Eventually, i couldn't start the car as the 'brakelights' would not come on.i called the ford dealer in a rage that they had idiot lights for everything else,. Intermittentlyheadlights become inoperable, obstructingview of the driver.dealer has inspectedvehicle several times, and has replaced various parts, however the problem still exists. Please provide additional information.

Headlights are not bright, do not project beam of 365 feet in front of car, light does not light up. Driver's license plate in front, even with high beams, a padestrian was crossing and lights couldn't even see him, and consumer almost hit padestrian.high beams give off the light that regular beams should. Took vehicle to dealer 3 times for the same problem, they said they adjusted them all 3 three times to ford's justifacation.dealer told consumer that beamwasnot high enough. Consumer thought it was amanufacturer's defect, and a high risk at night.

The headlight covers on ford crown victoria's (1999 to present) are of a plastic material that develops a film over time that severely reduces the amount of light that is put out by the headlights.

While driving 55 mph at night, headlights went out for about 30 seconds. Vehicle has not been examined by dealer.consumer states while changing head lights from regular to bright beams, on several occasions, the lighting inside and outside goes out for at least 15-30 seconds, dealer can not duplicate.

On two occasions when turning oninterior light, while in motion, turned offheadlights instead.dealer/manufacturer were not notified at this time.please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

The arizona dept public safety & phoenix police dept are reporting high occurences of fires associated with rear-end collision of the crown victoria vehicles, an officer was killed when his vehicle was struck from behind and burst into flames, the officers vehicle was stopped for a traffic stop and the other vehicle was traveling in excess of 81 mph at impact, authorities suspect fuel system related (no vin given)

Had to post on this blue oval news web site simply because of the amount of educated consumers who utilize blue oval news researching prior to their vehicle purchases. Besides the known issue of the dreaded plastic resin intake manifolds cracking on the 4.6l sohc engine on the ford crown victoria there is a more catastrophic quality issue with the crown victoria and that is the torque converter shudder on the crown victoria 4r70w transmission. Starting with the '92 model year and it's aode and now the 4r70w which replaced the aode starting in '98 ford has known of quality issues of their transmissions which manifests itself as a horrible shudder or vibration as the transmission shifts from 3rd gear going into 4th gear (usually transitioning from 40 to 50 mph!). I purchased my '99 crown vic and it has provided me reliable transportation until just recently. I picked up this horrible shudder just 6 weeks prior to my 3yr/36k ford warranty running out. When this problem first occurred with having just 22k on the odometer and 6 weeks left on the warranty i quickly brought the car in for waranty work. Universal ford in long island city, ny validated that indeed there was a shudder and replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. I drove the "repaired" vehicle from nyc to leesburg, virginia but on the return trip the shudder came back worse than ever. I managed to limp the car back home and the vehicle has been at universal ford since. For those of you considering a crown victoria perform your "due diligence" and visit some of the other impartial crown vic web sites (www.corral.net but more importantly www.crownvic.net) searching on "tranny shudder". Ford has known of this problem over 5 years but hasn't publically made it widely known along with their plastic resin intake manifold debacle. I've owned over a dozen crown victorias in my life and starting with the '92 model year when they transitioned over from the old pushrod-8 5.0l engine to their new 4.6l sohc t

Fuel line connection to fuel filter under car failed causing a high speed fuel leak creating a possible catastrophic fire condition. *nlm

Intertia fuel cut-off activated after rumble strips and a pothole while on interstate exit ramp.dealer replaced front disk pads that were "mismatched" and occasionally caused loss of control during moderately hard braking.steering wheel makes creaking noise that could/possibly be a sign that air bag circuit may not function reliably if needed.

The fuel cut off switch activated as consumer was entering a major highway causing the vehicle to stall.nlm

Vehicle stalls at any speed and any time. Vehicle taken to dealer 3 times. Dealer said inertia switchwas defective ,and needs to be replaced.

The inner fender protection is completely inadequate, allowing road salt to completely cover the entire engine and wiring.the suspension, master cyclinder, fuel injection, and other parts are coated completely.this could cause deteriorationg and failure of the engine possibly leading to an accident. This has been reported to ford, acknowledging that this is happening, but refusing to fix the situation.they stated if something happens my compliant is on file for future reference.in the 5,000 miles i've put on the car i have washed the engine compartment down 4 times to prevent corrosion or failure.your help in this matter would be appreciated and could prevent an accident due to a mechanical failure in the future.

The consumer was concerned about the fuel tank assembly and the result of rear accidents which caused fire/explosion upon impact.mr scc

Consumer has been the unlucky owner of a ford crown victoria. She does not feel secure in the vehicle until ford makes a recall to get them fixed.. The consumer was concerned about apossible gas tank explosion in an event of a rear end collision.

I am concerned about fuel tank fires started by rear end collisions. All research i have done states that ford is recalling police cars only.as a consumer i think ford owes it to the public to recall all ford crown victoria's.my family is more important then their bottom line.my wife and i do not feel safe driving our children around in this car.ford needs to acknowledge they are putting out an unsafe product.*la

We have over 70 1998 to 2001 ford crown victoria police cars and on every one of them the forward most parking brake cable is being severed where it goes through a hole on its way up to the parking brake pedal assembly.

While driving lost all engine power, butengine never stalled.when stepping on gaspedal nothing happened. It happened before on a incline hill, and could not holdvehicle fromrolling back. Then, took vehicle to dealer, and they did not find anything. Consumer believed problem was traction control.

When the vehicle is placed in park indicator reads park, but the vehicle will jump back into gear and start to roll.dealer has not been contacted.

Vehicle is a police package crown victoria used for paramedic service. We began to notice the vehicle sway subtly with braking, acceleration, and road imperfections in jan 1999. In march, the rear axle began to make a loud banging noise upon moderate acceleration from a stop. It was taken to chapman lincoln-mercury, baltimore pike, springfield, pa 19064 (610-544-0100), where the diagnosis of a loose/missing passenger side rear trailing arm was made. Apparently, a bolt had worked loose, and that side of the axle was basically held in place by the shock absorber and leaf spring. Obviously, this would adversely affect the high speed handling of the vehicle, or even cause the axle to break completely free, with potentially fatal implications. I would appreciate being informed of the outcome of this, preferably via e-mail. Thanks.

My name is [xxx] and my ford crown victoria has a problem with the rear axle assembly the c-clip keeps falling off the axle shaft and i think this should be a recall i'm not sure how many other people experienced this problem but i am and the rear end is too expiencive to repair and i think this should be admitted to ford because the axle shaft is faulty and the differential 3:55 is a bad concept on my car i don't speed or beat my car down or dog it out i drive the speed limit and use the car as supposed to and the other problem is the car has random misfires as well the problem i insist of complaining of can cause an accident or worse and i feel ford should recall the car for this major problem please contact me if you can have something done about these problems. When applyingbrakes on a damp road vehicle pulls to the left. Manufacturer states that this is a normal condition.vehicle will be checked by dealership.please provide any further information.

While driving vehicle 35-40mph in wet weather & applying brakes vehicle would pull to the right. Contacted dealership & was informed by mechanic the pulling problem was not correctable.

Continous squealing and grinding brakes 4 attempts to correct, no relief.

Brakes went bad, they were rubbing metal to metal andmaking a winding noise.also, there was a loud clunking noisebecause the lowercontrol armwent bad, and they replaced it. When consumer appliesbrakes vehicle pulls to the left.

When brakes are applied the car pulls hard to the right or left.dealer replaced front pads.dangerous pulling continues, but the brakes squeal.

On april 15, 2003 i took my 1999 ford crown victoria (vin [xxx]) to the bill currie ford dealership in tampa, florida, for servicing. The rear brake pads were worn out (2 mm remaining) while the front brake pad wear was normal (8 mm remaining).the entire braking system was checked and no malfunction was detected.i notified ford motor company and received no viable explanation for the excessive wear on the rear brakes.i notified the dealership via email as requested by ford motor company and received only an automated reply.ford motor company indicated that my report to them would be forwarded to their engineering division (i believe) but i have received no further response.i am very much concerned that the vehicle has an as yet undetected braking system problem since it would be normal for the front brake pads to were out first.if there is a problem with the braking system and that problem escalates, then all the occupants of the vehicle could be in jeopardy.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Both my husband and i complained when our crown victoria was new and onward about the front doors were opened to exit the vehicle not holding open and snapping back on the driver or passenger trying to exit the vehicle. Ford did nothing about this, and ignored this problem. Even when we took our vehicle in for service, we told the attendant about this problem and still nothing was done to solve this problem. When someone puts there foot out to exit a vehicle, they don't expect the door to snap back onto them. I've had my leg clipped numerous times, besides my ear and head when the door doesn't hold open. I think ford should have done something about this early on, instead of denying the problem until the warranty was out of date. We told ford about the problem doors even on the new owners requested review of our new auto. This problem has continued from the first time we purchased this 1999 cv on to this present day.ford, what say you!!!

Suspension problem(?)--car keeps drifting to right.ford claims this is normal(marjorie hicks--regional office, mahwah,nj) as does park inn ford service manager. Previously reported under recall # 98v322000.this recall was limited to 1994-1999 crown victoria fleet vehicles, natural gas, and lincoln towncar limo's.a part search shows all crown victorias from 1994-1999 use the exact same part number for the ball joints.there is no distinction between fleet, passenger, cng, or limo's.this defective ball joint was apparently used on all 1994-1999 crown victorias either solely, or intermittently, but not limited to only fleet/commercial vehicles.ford is developing a record for performing recalls and/or repairing defects for their "fleet customers" while ignoring the average consumer who is experiencing the same problem.in this case, however, the issue is one of safety, both to the occupants of the defective vehicle and to all other vehicles on the road.i believe ford motor co deliberately supplied false information to the nhtsa regarding the scope of this defect.an investigation should be conducted including reviewing accidents involving these vehicles.currently, my 1999 crown victoria (68,000 miles) has the right lower control arm laying on the ground in my garage.i am fortunate it happened while i was putting my car away and not the next day when i would have been traveling at high speeds on the ohio turnpike.

I own a 1999 ford crown victoria sedan. I recently discovered, that one of the bolts connecting the upper control arm to the frame, was missing the nut to secure it and it had backed itself out of the mounting bushing. The bolt had backed out about 2.5 inches when i discovered it. Thisleft only one bolt holding the upper control arm to the car's frame. The car has only 24,000 miles on it and was recently purchased used,at a local dealer. The car is in excellent condition, except for the bolt problem. I suspect that the bolt came loose on its own because i noticed that the factory applied blue thread lock to the other upper arm bolts, but i found no trace of the compound on the bolt that backed out of the bushing. The bolt caused damage to the mounting hole of the frame mount as well as damaging itself. The bolt is slightly bent and several threads are worn off.the rubbing action of the bolt elongated the mounting hole too. This mount is welded to the frame at the factory and i fear that i will be stuck with a mount that is worn, even though i am going to replace the worn bolt and missing nut with a ford factory replacement part.i am complaining because i am concerned that this problem could occur to other vehicles.i did not notice any problems prior to discovering the bolt falling out. If this bolt let loose while i was driving at highway speeds, i don't know if i would be writing this to you. I was a certified mechanic for several years and i worked on ford vehicles at two of their dealers. I have never seen this happen to a mounting bolt on the upper arm assembly, during that time or since then. If i didn't just happen to open the hood and take notice of the problem, i'm sure i wouldn't know anything was wrong until it was too late. The bushing is not worn out and the rest of the suspension is tight,so i can't blame worn suspension parts.

I would like to know if my car has been in an accident. It drives all over the road. And also my tire ripped to shreds.

While drivingat70 mph tire tread separated. This has happened on several different occasions. The first time was at 38,551 miles, and the second time was at 74,904 miles.the tires were guaranteed for70,000 miles.pep boys, futura plus, p225/60r16, radio design #9937, 31985-2 r-1768, dot 3d x 0, 1 x bd0601, g03l, 0211801.

The car was parked when i noticed the missing pieces of tread. Upon closer examination of the tire, i noticed that the some of the tread was separated from the tire. Also some of the steel belts was showing. I droved to the nearest goodyear dealer and they indicated that there was 25% tread left and the amount to replace the tire was over $112.00. I went to another store and purchased another brand of tire which was less expensive than the amount quoted by the goodyear dealer. I contacted the gooryear customer service and they also said that it was an expensive tire and that their policy was to prorate the tire. I am glad that i noticed this before going on a long distance trip this weekend. I have 2 concerns - 1..i need to report the tire defect to somebody.2. I think that similiar to the firestone situation, goodyear should at least pay for part of the tire replacement, not just prorated based on an artificially high list price. This is second submission on this dangerous coach.a large 3 foot metal storage compartment fell off the coach onto the road after only 1 month of use.the compartmenr had a variety of items in it.thank god i was turning off the highway into a parking lot when the screws failed and it broke from the frame.i was able to remove it before anyone was killed.the factory put it back on but it was never really safe. The same compartment was falling off a second time earlier this summer when we detected the problem. Another metal storage compartment is releasing at this time. We do not know when it will fall off, but it is not safe! a large steel leveling jack with self-contained hydraulic tank fell off the coach after another weld broke.this large metal object fell onto the road at a time i could stop on the pavement to pick it up and get it and us out of harm's way. Welds brake.many of the screws were not installed during manufacturing process.other remaining screws fail causing large objects to fall onto the road from the coach.we have had more than 100 problems requiring service in just over one year of ownership.it has been in the shop for 7 months of the first year due to manufacturer defects!this coach is not safe for us or the people traveling behind us.it seems that the coach was not made with any integrity.the fiberglass walls are delaminating from the frame.doors fall off the closets with glass mirrors that could disfigure anyone nearby.it dies without warning and control of the vehicle is lost.this is a 35 foot bomb with metal shrapnel traveling down the highway.there have been too many problems and repair shops to list.the factory seems to be doing a "cover-up."i allowed them to fly their own inspector to meet evaluate the coach.we were to receive a copy of his report.after he gave it to their president, i was refused a copy.it is now for "internal purposes only."please help me!

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle accelerated suddenly without warning on three occasions.the first incident occurred while driving at an undetermined speed, but was not reported to the manufacturer.the second incident occurred while pulling up to a stop light at 35 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning into the intersection.the vehicle stopped only after the ignition was turned off.after the second incident the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced a solenoid, but it was unknown whether the solenoid was in the engine or brake system.the dealer only replaced the solenoid in an attempt to remedy the problem, but offered no guarantee the solenoid would remedy the problem.the third incident occurred while pulling into the garage at 2 mph with the brake pedal depressed.the vehicle accelerated without warning and crashed into the garage wall.again, the vehicle did not stop until the ignition was turned off.the vehicle has not been returned to the dealer for further inspection.

Pinging is experienced when the throttle is open all the way during acceleration.the recommended fuel for this vehicle is regular unleaded, which i use.when i use premium there is no pinging.this has been evident the entire time i have had this vehicle.i brought the vehicle in for this problem during the warranty period and was told that it was normal, this is not normal.after the 100,000-mi tune-up the problem was not evident until about 5000 mi afterward.there is a design flaw and possible misrepresentation if the vehicle was advertised as using regular unleaded and really should be using premium.

Due to a defective alternator vehicle surges fowards or backwards. When occupant was in reverse positionvehicle suddenly surged backward, hitting another person and causing serious injuries.please provide further information.

This condition was worse at night.the ford dealer in kissimmee told me he had a lot of this problem and it was stress.he could not replace it as ford would give him a hard time.i had to drive home with this.the driving at night was worse as the flickering became a series of blue and white.the car was taken to a glass company and they could not find a crack anywhere.they said it was a stress problem.we took it to nassar ford in lawrence, mass and they called ford and they replaced the windsheild.ford should be made to fix these windshields at any dealer for there customers as it is a serious safety risk to a driver.
