While driving on an interstate at night at 70mph the car turned off its propulsion system without warning.a red warning indicator came on staying stop safely now.my wife was able to pull to the side of the interstate.she turned the car off and it restarted.the next day she drove it to the supermarket.on the 2 mile drive home it stopped multiple times while the car was in motion just like it had on the interstate.this seems very similar to the problems that led to a recall on the ford focus electric, which was made in the same plant at the same time in 2013: http://insideevs.com/ford-focus-electric-shutdown-problems-while-driving-get-official-as-nhsta-investigates/.

Stereo system fails into an unresponsive state. The radio will remain on and emit sound even when car is shut off. This puts a drains the battery and will make it impossible to start after sitting for a day or two.

Hellomy 12v battery is discharging suddenly and without reason. The battery has been replaced and the fault returns. According to tsb 15-0089, when replacing the battery in the 2013 car, the electronic module should be replaced. The dealer never performed this step, the ford motor company does not take responsibility for the dealer.i'm afraid that eventually my car will burn.this faulty electronic module (modem or telemetrics) is located near the high voltage lion battery.please help . I mention that ford recommends not to connect the charging cable due to the possibility of fire.greetings(xxxx)parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Car goes dead and 12-volt battery is being drained because faulty computer programming leaves electrical modules on even when the car is turned "off." unclear if items that remain electrically "hot" pose direct safety problems, but consumers risk being unable to start/restart the car in emergency or normal situations. Ford declines to pay for reprogramming this faulty design beyond the normal warranty time (even when the car is covered by a ford extended "premium" warranty).in my case, the car was parked at my home and the battery failed - twice in a few weeks - overnight in warm summer weather. I urge you to examine what systems are being left on and to urge or require ford to correct its design deficiencies. Thanks.

To whom it may concern, somewhat normally on long car rides(normally on the highway) the car has a electrical short, causing the car to use up all the ev miles it has stored. Mean while the car starts to smell like burning electrical, no smoke is seen but smell is there. When the car is parked after the accidents , the car goes back to normal. These accidents has happen over 10 times, over the past 2 years. We have token the car to the dealer at least 4 times for this problem and nothing gets fixed. I think all that is done it resetting the electrical, yet the problem continues and been having more electrical issues. Problems with my ford mobile, radio not turning off and screens blinking.

My car failed to start for 2 consecutive days after non-operation overnight and when i took the dealership they said they need to perform a tsb 15-0089, since my car was out of warranty less than 2 months, ford said i need to pay $1500 to fix this issue. Based on research this issues seems to affect multiple vehicles in this category and ford is not owning up to fixing this issue that is affecting these cars.

Car will not start after being parked. Automatic door opener does not work to open car.only valet key will open car.all electrical systems are dead, this has happened more than 10 times since i purchased the car in 2014.supposedly this problem has been repaired by the dealership each time by replacing the battery, replacing relay systems, etc. But it continues to recur.there is no pattern to its occurrence but is well known to fmc.

The contact owns a 2013 ford c-max energi. The contact stated that the convenience charge cord overheated. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v592000 (equipment); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Hansel ford (3075 corby ave, santa rosa, ca 95407, (707) 623-1426) was contacted and confirmed that the part was not available for the recall remedy. The contact owns a 2013 ford c-max energi. When charging the vehicle, the outlet located in the wall melted and the side of the cord used to charge the vehicle, which plugged into the wall, also melted. The vehicle was unable to be charged. The dealer was informed of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

2013 ford c-max energi. Consumer writes in regards to the charging unit for vehicle overheating. *ldthe consumer stated the charging unit began burning sockets to the point of discoloration.

The 120 volt, 12 amp charge cord that came with my car (ford part no. Fm58-10b706ac) is overheating creating a fire hazard. The end of the cord that plugs into the wall has melted and the plug has left burn marks on three different electrical outlets on my house where i plug the car in to charge. Photos of the melted cord and outlet burn marks are attached.there is a design flaw in that the control unit built into the cord is too heavy and pulls the prongs from the outlet and if a prong is only partially plugged into the outlet it draws more current than the cord can handle.ford is aware of the problem and advised (ford ev help line 1-800-392-3673) that the cord should not be left hanging in mid-air and needs to be propped up when plugged in.those instructions are not in the owners manual or on the cord, nor were they communicated to cmax energi owners. Ford asserts that the cord is not covered by its extended 8-year, 80,000 mile warranty for electrical components for the cmax energi, so this part is now out of warranty. It is very expensive (i was quoted $975 by ford to replace the cord).thus it is highly likely that owners will defer replacing the cord and keep using it, because it still works even though the plug is partially melted. This cord is highly likely to result in fires and may be responsible for the two cmax energi garage fires in florida i read about in the press last month.i am happy to provide more information if you want to contact me.

We have used the supplied utility 120v charging cable since we acquired the car to charge it at home.recently, i noticed that the utility cable plug was melted and the weatherproof socket fixture plastic housing was burnt i changed the unit to a different outdoor outlet. It burned that outlet so badly that it's gfci was tripped and could not be reset. Fearing a possible house fire, i stopped using the cord. I reported it to our ford dealer as a hazardous product defect. Out of warranty was the reply. I do not know where the electrical rate limiting circuitry is in the system, but i strongly suspect that during charging, the car now draws more wattage (1600-1700w, less than a powerful hairdryer) than the cable unit is rated at (1440w, per it's labeling), and this discrepancy over many many hours of continuous load has led to the failure. The service manager at the dealership said this was the third such failure he has personally seen. That is one dealership out of the nationwide ford network, implying 1000's of these failures may have occurred. It is a very serious condition, which could lead to a house fire and should be investigated and recalled, in my view.

Re:power cord for hybrid charging system. It is faulty and dangerous! safetyrecall #: 18s24. Nhtsa recall: 18v-592i purchased a vehicle (used) locally from a ford dealership-mullinax ford in north palm beach fl.unfortunately the power cord was not with the vehicle and they had to contact the dealership it came from, and georgia, to send a power cord.as it turns out that power cord is faulty from day one. It overheats in just minutes. I complainedto the dealership many times, brought the vehicle in and they confirmed the power cord was indeed faulty.they had first said they would contact ford and would cover it. Well they lied and did not cover it. And i'm stuck with paying for an expensive vehicle that i cannot charge, paid extra to have a ford certified, so i then could pay even more to have an extended warranty. None of which covers this faulty power cord the one that probably did not even come with the vehicle. Then, i have received not one but two notices from the ford corporation stating there's a recall on the cords, great i thought. Well, they still are not providing me with a new safe and functioning cord! nothing from ford, and nothing from the dealership who, according to a person i spoke with at ford, i was told that they had already repaired my vehicle. That is a blatant lie! i took it in a second time per their request, and he still would not repair or replace my cord. I spent extra money having an electrician to my house and ran another power lead out to where my car is and found that indeed it was the cord. Through my online research i have found that many homes and garageshave been burnt down because of these faulty cords!can you please explain to me how florida can get away with this, and the local dealerships can screw the public like this? putting us in danger?selling extended warrantees are not honoring them?

I received a recall from ford nhtsa recall number 14v597 ford recall number 14s21 on september 25, 2014 it has been a year now and ford has not provided the parts. Is not a year sufficient time to supply the parts and repair my car?

I started the car and the power steering was not functioning. I could barely move the steering wheel.the power steering message appeared and steering wheel remained impossible to turn. I tried to drive it in my driveway, but the power steering would not reset itself. I turned car off and then it reset. It happened several times over a few months. Took it to dealer and they indicated the steering gear failed their test. The electronic steering guide had to be replaced at the cost of $2200 for a car with 70,000 miles. Searched online complaints and other cmax owners have reported a similar problem.contacted the ford executive office and they helped cover some of the cost. This problem should be recalled since it impacts the safety of driver while operating the car. I am lucky it did not open while i was driving on the highway.

While driving the car to the grocery store, a warning light appeared on the dashboard that stated power steering system failure. The steering intermittently locked up but with significant effort, i was able to steer the vehicle.

I was driving to work one night down a residential street and suddenly lost power steering. The wrench light came on and a message displayed about the power steering. Luckily i wasn't on a busy street so i coasted to the side of the road and called a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived i turned the car back on and the power steering was working like nothing happened. The service light and message were no longer there. I still had the car towed to the ford dealer and was told there is no problem with the power steering. That if it happens again try and get to a shop while the service light is on so they can see what code pops up. I was lucky that i was the only person traveling on that road and my rate of speed wasn't that high. If the problem would have happened on a highway or a busier intersection it could have been fatal.

For the past couple months the steering sounded like it needed lubrication, but i couldn't find any lubrication points everything is sealed, then the other day while my wife was driving the steering went out and a warning message appeared service power steering assist now and the steering wheel locked up ( it would only go straight not right or left) luckily she was going into a turn with a turn out next to it so she could get it stopped. She re started the car and had manual steering and got the car home. Later i started it got that message and an advance trac warning and couldn't turn the steering wheel after moving forward and backward a few times and restarting the car several times i was able to drive it to my mechanic who experienced the same problems and suggested we take it to a ford dealership. So we loaded it on a car dolly and towed it 60 miles to the nearest dealership and recommended a $2400. Repair replacing the power steering assembly the car has around 75000 miles on it and is only 4 years old. I have read online that ford has had recalls for the power steering assembly for 2013 car but not the c-max. Please help before someone dies.

Power steering went out while in motion in a parking lot. Car was less than 2,000 miles outside of warranty. Poor design of column that had been recalled on similar vehicles caused shorts throughout the electrical system. This resulted in three pages worth of system errors when checked. $2,000 to repair. No shorts since replacement of faulty part.

Backing out of driveway and power steering failed.warning light went on.i stopped driving immediately and called local ford dealer service.they suggested restarting the car to see if steering resumed and it did.they offered a free tow which i declined when i saw i had non power steering if needed.dealer close by and i drove at very low speed.three days later the car repair was completed (july 4th weekend). The work on the invoice was "trace and replace power steering gear set alignment with part# 1 cv6z*3504*je gear asy - steering.car seems fine and we were advised of an upcoming power steering recall in which we need to participate.hats off to genesee valley ford in avon ny for taking this very seriously and giving us such prompt service plus a loaner.

The contact owns a 2013 ford c-max energi. The contact stated that the power steering failed while traveling various speeds. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 1,512.

Power steering warning light came on and power steering quit while driving in the middle of turn. It came back on after stopping the car and turning off the ignition.it almost caused a wreck. This is very dangerous.

Purchased car broughthome open rear hatch via elc openerwhile open to full heightand i was in openingit came back down over 12inches causing me to hit my head on it. As i had the exact same car and this was a replacement this was not expected as my last did not do this (same year cmax color opt everything) took back to dealer where they ordered new strutstook a few weeks then were replace dose the same thing on my slight inclined driveway (live in s fl we don't really have big hills) took back again this time they changed struts from another car and they tested on there driveway did the same comes back down well below 6 footthey call ford eng who claim this is normalif this is so it is very unsafe as i have even hit my head at almost eye level (btw i'm 6'1) when i open and it falls back down this dose not always happens seems to be worse in warmer weather ford has claimed they have no fix for this issue but can see where some could easily be injured or drop a child when hitting there head the hatch opens about 6'8" on its elec opener and should stay there as it dose on a flat surfaceford seems to be unwilling or unable to fix this hazard and claim its normal!

Ford has yet to provide dealers with parts to repair recalled defective door latches in this vehicle. The recall notice says ford has known about this issue since at least february 2015 - nearly two years ago - and issued the formal recall notice in september 2016. Are they making any effort to resolve this? it would seem a mechanical fix like this should not take months or years to resolve - especially on a car which has had relatively limited sales. I hope you will check on this and urge ford to promptly make the promised fix.

Rear (hatchback) latch fails to release resulting in a door will not open condition.because the latch release was activated, driving or road vibration may cause the door to open unexpectedly and eject cargo while the vehicle is in motion.hatchback fails to open after electronic release is activated and must be "jiggled" to open.hatchback later opened when the vehicle was in motion.rear door is not covered by nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000.

Car was plugged in to charge overnight in the garage. Early the next morning, the garage was on fire. Car burned to the ground. Investigation points towards the charging car as the cause of the fire.

Upon braking, the car has lurched forward on several occasions, almost rear ending other cars, happens in all kinds of weather, road surfaces, intermittent but happens probably at least 3 times per week.also, when stopped and accelerating, the car has a hesitation issue like no fuel gets to it for a moment and that has happened 3 times in the last week as well as several months ago

Ford issued a recall in august 2018 with still no remedy available. This is a long time and i'd like a fix soon.
