Airbag light flashes, ther is a pattern, it comes onintermittently. Also, fuel pump was replaced by the dealership.

Three days after i have the vans wireing done because of a recall, my horn stopped working and the air bag light started flashing and my brake lights started staying on.i called jim wilson ford who did the repairs i was told by the head man at the dealership that it was not there falt and i would have to pay to have it fixed.everything worked fine until they did the recall work.

Air bag light on the instrument panel will illuminate erratically, then go off while operating vehicle at any speed.also, has experienced failure ofcruise control andhorn.dealership has not examined vehicle to determine a cause for this problem.please provide any additional information / documentation.

Consumer states clockspring in steering column is defective causing air bag light to come on, horn and cruise control to fail.

Suspect underlying problem with airbag circuitry. Airbag light blinks 3/2. This was first repaired under warranty by dealer hollywood lincoln mercury in hollywood, florida under warranty less than 2 years ago. The clockspring mechanism was replaced. Now again the airbag light blinks 3/2, and diagnostics with the same dealer reveal another bad clockspring as well as a bad monitor. Emails to ford are to no avail. They remain non-responsive to my position that a fundamental problem exists with the airbag circuitry which they never corrected or revealed. Ford has not disputed any facts of correspondence. I believe a public safety issue exists because a faulty airbag circuit causes repeated airbag malfunction. There might also be a connection to a recently received ford notice to correct a fire hazard short in nearby steering column ignition circuitry. Please investigate for possible recall due to the airbag malfunction.

After ford recall for replacement of wiring in steering column, the airbag light began blinking in a 3/2 pattern.the cruise control and horn both ceased function.indicates a clockspring failure meaning that the airbag, cruise control and horn are inoperative. Also, the rear liftgate supports are fixed to the frame with small studs.with the liftgate open, one of these studs broke sending the liftgate crashing onto owner's head and neck.

The van was taken to the dealership because the air bag warning light is flashing.they found the problem to bea broken clock spring in the steering column. Clock spring has not been replaced because of charge to owner.also, tires need replacing, but warranty not in effect until tires actually go bad.*ml

Dt:contact stated that the air bag light on the dashboard flashed on and off. The cruise control and the horn will not work. The problem started without warning. He was told by the dealer the air bag will not work as long as the light on the dashboard was on. Also, the dealertold him he had a broken wire in the steering wheel. He has not had it repaired yet. The air bag problem was notcovered under warranty or recall. Therefore, e the manufacturer will offer no free remedy.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision while going through an inner section between 25-30 mph. Upon impact, driver's side air bag failed to deploy.driversustained chest injuries from the seat belt. Manufacturer wanted to send a factory representativeto investigate the cause of the failure.

Had to replace the clock spring in the airbag system.since this is part of the safety system this item should be replaced at no cost. Since its not a moving part there should be no reason for it to go bad.went bad after the harness recall was done.

Date is approximate.1994 ford aerostar rear ended at stop light hard enough to break 7x19 cable holding spare tire, and send vehicle into car in front of it with enough force to break radiator and ac radiator.air bag did not deploy.approximatly 3 months after back from repairs, the airbag light started blinking occasionly.this continued getting worse until it blinked constantly, also the horn was intermittentaly operational.i checked your "search complaints" section and see several people have had the same problem even without the accident.i had the vehicle repaired and it was the clock spring as several people state in the complaints section.in fact this must be common due to when i called the dealership that did the original repairs they didn't even listen to all the information on the problem and said "it sounds like the clock spring and takes about 2 hours to repair."then quoted a price, only missing the price quote by the amount of tax added to the bill!please research this, if nothing else look at your own system under airbags, horn, and speed controls!doesn't take a bean counter to see there is a problem with this "safety" system!!!!!!!

We have just moved to roswell, ga from winder ga. We know of over 15 people who have or had the same problem with the 1994 aerostars clock spring in the air bag not working. When i contacted ford thay said it was not a problem, most people have it reparied or just let it go as i have. It's hard to come up with 300 to 500 dollars on something that is a repeated problem. This is a safety issue for us all. I now have a 2 month old grandaughter and feel unsafe knowing that the airbag may go off at anytime or will not deploy if i should ever need it. Please look at all repairs on this and i am sure that ford will not have a complant list... Seem to be par for the course. Thanks for your help.

This vehicle has never been in an accident that i am aware of and over a year ago while driving my air bag light poped on. When i got home i called our local ford garage & they informed me that the air bag no longer was working. I feel if you buy the vehicle with the air bag you exspect it to be there in case of an accident. What is the point in having one if it cannot live up to the life of your vehicle. The part is only 150.00 but i refuse to pay for something to be fixed if it was never deployed in the first place. This is suppose to be a safty feature but it is not very safe if it no longer works.

When brakes were applied the pedal became hard,resulting in a sudden acceleration of the vehicle.the vehicle collided into a tree and the airbags did not deploy.the dealer has been notified.

Van had been driven for approximately two hours or so, around the local city communities. Van had been parked for approximately five minutes, when neighbors notified me of fire. Intense fire was coming from driver's side/windshield/ignition/front seat area, eventually consuming entire interior of van. Norfolk fire department responded within five minutes, or so, station only about 150 yards from my residence. Fire was extinguished within five minutes or so, but the van was completely consumed by fire and totally destroyed by then. Van was junked/salvaged. Paid only $100.00 for salvage/junk/towing, etc. Prior to this incident, i had no problems with my van. Van only had 93000 miles. Had purchased new from freedoms ford in norfolk, va. Informed by associate that i should report this "fire hazard/problem," because other 1994 ford aerostar vans have experienced similar "fire problems/incidents/reports," and the like. Please inform me of what actions i need to take to recoup some monetary value for this "fire incident," etc. My vehicle paperwork was burned/destroyed in the fire. However, the norfolk fire department did make an "official fire report/record" of the incident, etc. Also, minor damage was done to the aluminum siding of my house from the vehicle fire.

Abs light comes on. Also, there is no horn function. Horn/abs wiring is connected. Mechanic informed owner wiring connector might be wrong.

Exhuast fumes are leaking into the passenger compartment and cause the passengers to become sick.tt the odometer malfunctions. Oil lights and engine lightcontinue to come on because the vehicle burns 1-2 quarts of oil every week. Brakes stick and there was bricks rubbing kind of sound when the steering wheel turns. The horn failed. The weather stripping around the slide door keep coming off.

The wiring harness in my steering colume is defective. This will be the second time in 6 yrs that this has had to be replaced. The harness controlls the airbage, horn and cruise controll. Also the igition switch is faulty, the key can be removed while the vehicle is running

While driving onfreeway at 60 mph engine quit 100%. Consumer pulled over, and had vehicle towed to a near by mechanic. They said it was a short just before ignition switch, there was an electrical overload wiring harness that produced too muchheat which caused loss of power to the engine.

While the van was parked there was an electrical fire that started under the hood on the driver's side. This happened about 5 minutes after the van was driven. Fire was put out by the fire department. The van was totalled.

Vhehicle caught fire near center of motorbehind where you put in the oil.vehicle was taken to local ford dealer forrecall on the accessory power circuit. I received a letter in the mail about the switch recall. The 94-95 models where also recalleddue an electrical short out at fuel pumpresulting in power loss and fire. I belive this to be what happened to my van.i was not notified of this recall, niether was i informed of it whan i took the van in for the other recall on the switch.can you tell me what to dofrom here? should i go to the local ford dealer?

While starting the vehicle up there was alot of smoke coming from under the hood, and the smoke melted the wires. The consumer stated one could see the smoke.

Dt: the contact stated 1994, ford van caught on fire on the freeway on 8-8-05. She was not having problems prior to the fire. The fire seemed to be electricaland originated under the hood. Updated 2/7/2006 - the consumer received recall 97v204000 on nov 13, 1997 for the transfer case/driveshaft but the dealer refused to make the repairs.this failure of this component could result in a fire. The consumer received information from nhtsa on two recalls for the vehicle.one was 99v028000 for the electrical wiring under the hood and the other one was 99v029000 for the ignition switch.

We were beginning to experience loss of power. The fuel pump and filter was changed. We are still getting intermittent loss of power, but what my concern is that i saw a recall onnhtsa: 99v028000. I was made aware of this recall when i viewed an episode of cops where an aerostar's electrical system caused a fire in the engine compartment. I called ford in temecula calif and now they have no record of any recalls for this year of aerostar 1994 i do have kids and i would like to know what safety matters remain on this van.

Headlight switch became erratic. When switch was removed for replacement , i became aware of the harness block being melted and cracked around 6 of the 9 wires. There has been other problems with the aerostar relating to current draw in other portions of their harness. To me this is a safety issue and i was very dissappointed to find ford quite unconcerned when i contacted their customer assistance line.

The accessories in my dash and steering column are shorting out, and i saw that there was a recall on that.the problem is that the recall does not include when my van was made.i don't care why i just want to be able to drive my kids to school and back and not have my van catch on fire.we have been through that already with a different vehicle.also, the fuel pump is acting up andi was told it seems as though it is shorting out!.again not the right month but i have the same problems so the way i see it is that ford messed up and should fix the problem, period.i plan to continue to follow this and to right to my local government.the safety of my family should not be determined as to how loudly people complain, it seems as though the vehicles that are covered were the greatest risk to the company. *la

While driving the check engine light comes on, the engine gets hot and the turn signal lights don't work. Dealer can't tell what the problem is with the vehicle.

There are 4 bolts holding the fan onto the water pump.one fell out and destroyed the serpentine belt, causing loss of all accessory functions.another bolt lacked a lock washer (the culprit may have, too.)

Vehicle experiencing problem with loss of coolant and overheating while driving.independent mechanic informed of a head gasket failure. Vehicle was not covered undermanufacturer'sextended warranty.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

We would like to know if there have been any other complaints of engine failure as a result of a defect or leak in the timing case gasket of this vehicle. We feel this leak directly resulted in the failure of the engine which we now have to replace at great expense. After contacting ford, the manufacturer of our minivan, we find that we have no recourse in this matter other than to contact you and make it part of your records that this has happened to our vehicle. We would appreciate hearing from you as to whether or not any other reports similar to ours have been made with regard to the l994 ford aerostar 2wd, 3.0l vehicle. Thank you.

While driving on interstate vehicle started to loose power and then ceased to function altogether, vehicle was towed into dearlership and consumer was advised that the engine block was cracked and that the anti-freeze was getting into the engine, consumer purchased a rebuilt engine.

Dt: the contact stated 1994, ford van caught on fire on the freeway on 8-8-05. She was not having problems prior to the fire. The fire seemed to be electricaland originated under the hood. Updated 2/7/2006 - the consumer received recall 97v204000 on nov 13, 1997 for the transfer case/driveshaft but the dealer refused to make the repairs.this failure of this component could result in a fire. The consumer received information from nhtsa on two recalls for the vehicle.one was 99v028000 for the electrical wiring under the hood and the other one was 99v029000 for the ignition switch.

The engine had started to overheat. Had heard a ticking noise prior to vehicle shutting down. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Was informed by mechanic engine lost compressor part & needed to be replaced.

The heat shield underneath vehicle keeps falling off. Was informed solder joints were prematurely corroded. This caused the shields to drag on the highway.

Heater hose was replaced and the air conditioner does not work.

Air conditioning route cold air toward the interior surface of the windshield causing the exterior of the windshield to fog complete and obstruct visibility.

When pressing cigarette lighter in, once it gets hot, it popped out onto the floor.consumer felt that if this happened in traffic driver would have to takeeyes off the road to find lighter in oder to prevent a vehicle fire.this could cause an accident.

The design of the jack kit was insufficient in that the lug wrench did no offer enough torque to lift vehicle to remove and replace tire.

Driving at night, the high beam headlight heat load caused shorting at the multifunction relay assembley lights shorted out and car filled with dense smoke. Vehicle had to be stopped in the middle of the road at night without lights. Emegency repairs had to be made before car could be moved to save location. Temporay repairs were than made to eliminate the short were the wires enter the multifunction relay (required dissasembly of steering column shroud). Charring of the wiring assembly resulted in inaderquate insulation between circuits causing instrument, wiper and head light failure. Work done involving safety recall99s02 has reactivated the short leaving the car unsafe to drive. The car is currently at babbit ford po box bb flagstaff 86002 (520) 774-5063 pending resolution of this safety issue.

We were beginning to experience loss of power. The fuel pump and filter was changed. We are still getting intermittent loss of power, but what my concern is that i saw a recall onnhtsa: 99v028000. I was made aware of this recall when i viewed an episode of cops where an aerostar's electrical system caused a fire in the engine compartment. I called ford in temecula calif and now they have no record of any recalls for this year of aerostar 1994 i do have kids and i would like to know what safety matters remain on this van.

Airbag light flashes, ther is a pattern, it comes onintermittently. Also, fuel pump was replaced by the dealership.

Smell of gas fume from inside the vehicle gradually became worse and intolerable. Dealer corrected problem by replacing the fuel pump gasket.

The fuel pump mounted in the top of the gas tank had failed, shorting out with no apparent fusable link of break.heat from the melting electrical parts weakened a fuel line, causing it to burst and the exposed wires started the fire.

No matter how much gas is in the tank, gas sensor misreads it.it could read full or anywhere in between.

While driving in the smoky mountains in nc the transmission overheated and poured out transmission fluid. The van began to smoke and i pulled over in a dangerous place. I decided to turn around (also in dangerous place) i went back to cherokee, nc and a mechanic said this was a common problem for areostars. He said many people get ripped off by untrustworthy mechanics. While traveling over the mountains we saw three other areostars with the same problem. Two were being towed by wreckers. Areostar owners need to be notified of this problem. That the transmission will overheat under a load and transmission fluid will be lost. We were very upset by this and our vacation was ruined. But because we found a good mechanic we were not ripped off. I cannot say the same about the other vans that we saw being towed from the mountain and we were only there for a couple of hours and saw three others in trouble.

Consumer states that the gear shift can be pushed down without applying the brake. Dealer notified.

This van releases automatic trans. Fluid from the seal between the torque converter and the transmission body.it does this when hot (but not overheating), in the summer, while towing a light weight camping trailer (load within ford towing limits).this occurs typically while climbing, but also on a flat grade at high speeds (65-70 mph) in hot temperatures (85f +).the fluid squirts onto the exhaust pipe, releasing large amounts of smoke.there was aprevious recall on this van for a similar problem with releasing trans. Fluid onto the exhaust pipe, and i had the recall work done, but it involved the transfer case and driveshaft, not the torque converter to transmission seal.i have had a large aftermarket trans. Cooler installed as well as a trans. Fluid temp. Guage.the engine coolant and trans. Fluid are within normal temp. Limits when these incidents occur.the dealer service dept. Has told me that this problem would not be fixed by replacing the seal; that it would continue because of component limitations.although the drivetrain components have not been detectably mechanically damaged by these incidents, the incidents are a clear safety hazard because of the fire hazard as well as the possible loss of control if the drivtrain components were to fail precipitously.when these incidents occur, i have to pull over immediately and shut off the engine and let the trans. Cool for a time, and this is another safety hazard because there is not always a safe place to pull over.i believe that the previous recall for this (or a similar) problemdid not result in an adequate fix and that the issue should be re-examined.the date of the incident noted on this report was the first occurrence.

This aerostar van has been an extremely good vehicle until we recently started having problems with the front transfer case.we received a recall in1998 for the transfer case, although all that was replaced was the rear case.about 1 year later we started having leakage from the front transfer case.we returned the truck to the dealer and they stated that this was not part of the recall, but we would have to have this crack repaired.we went to several transmission repair facilities and they indicated that they see this crack in the front case frequently in the aerostar van.we have had it welded, but will not take the van out on the highway.we want it replaced and if it is happening as frequently as they say, it is certainly a safety issue.

Was driving 7 kids in vehicle, going about 45mph, when transfer case was leaking under normal driving conditions. Another truck forced aerostar off road due to being on fire. Flames had made tank glow red. Flames put out w/fire extinguisher. Vehicle towed to ford dealer. Repairs done on transfer case under recall 97v-204.000. Took vehicle home & parked it. Started to leak.this was the 8th transfer case replaced in vehicle & the 2nd to catch on fire.manufacturer agreed to buy vehicle back from owner at price it was paid for.

Rear transfer case oil boils/blows out of vent onto transfer case which is located near gas tank.

Recall required that the transfer case be repaired, it was replaced with a defective one.the electronic clutch in the new transfer case started making popping sounds at approx. 8057 miles.problem reported while under recall part warrantee but i was told the transfer case would not make that sound.it did and later failed catastrophically.it was dangerous to drive vehicle under those circumstances, ford should replace defective unit with a good one but refuse to do so.

In march of 1995 i took custody of my three nieces, due to their mother's addiction to meth.at that point we owned a ford excort, which we traded in on the ford aerostar in may of that year, with approximately 18,000 miles.when the van reached approx. 55,000 miles my wife was driving in phoenix and the transfer case went out, while she was driving around 35 mph.since the component was under warranty pioneer ford replaced the component, and this only took them 5 to 6 weeks.in august of 1998 the transfer case went out again, with approx. 108,000 miles, and this time the ford dealer in blythe replaced the component and drive shaft under a recall notice.less than 12 months later, on august 13, 1999, the transfer case went out again.we took it to firestone and they thought the problem was a cv joint, which they replaced.the problem continued and they sent us to bob turner's ford in albuquerque, nm.even though firestone had informed them of the problem, they proceeded to say it was bad cv joints (including the new one) and replaced these and other misc. At a cost of $900.00 and the problem still exist.they now inform me that it is the transfer case and it will cost $2500.00 to fix.i contacted ford about this problem and the fact that 3 transfer cases in 3 years is not acceptable, but they refuse to help in this matter.when i talked to a person at customer service, he said ford would replace the part if defective, i then asked paul at bob turner's ford if the part was defective, and he said "yes"but ford now says that since it has over 12,000 miles they will do nothing.i do not believe that a vehicle that has never been in 4-wheel drive should have gone through 3 transfer cases in 3 years, this is a defect to me and the many mechanics that i have talked to.please look into this matter and let me know what can be done, for i can not be the only person in this situation.

Airbag warning light on dashboard blinks a "32"error code.that is, when the vehicle is running, the light blinks 3 times pauses, then blinks 2 times.after a longer pause, the sequence repeats again and again.if the engine is stopped and the ignition switch is put into the accessory position, the buzzer sounds 5 times.according to the owner's manual, this indicated a problem in the airbag module or system.however, the dealer was unable to find a problem stating that the symtoms disappeared.they keep coming and going.the fuse on this circuit was replaced with no help.

The release button on the seat belt buckle in the rear middle seat would not release the seat belt. Owner used pliers to pull the belt out of the buckle. Please provide any further details.

On the date listed my passenger side front wheel/tire fell off.this is my wife's work car and she thought she could hear something different.so i drove it to work the next day.i thought i could feel some roughness sightly through my pedal but it would come and go.i thought it could be a u-joint problem.anyway as i was turning a sharp turn in the town of of merom, in the wheel fell off with the brake line still connected.the spindle had snapped into because the bearing locked up due to inadequate packing grease.this van is my family car and this could have been a disasterous accident if the wheel had come off on the open highway.i do have the wheel bearing in my possession.the outer collar is missing but the individual bearing rollars are welded to the inner collar as is the piece of spindle shaft that sheared off.i just thought this should be brought to somebodies attention.
