The contact owns a 1992 ford aerostar.upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact stated that the muffler was rusted and cracked.the dealer stated that the vehicle was fine and the fumes would exit out of the rear of the vehicle.the fire department stated that the fumes were entering the vehicle due to the holes.the dealer stated that they sealed the holes and the vehicle was fine.the midas mechanic stated that the dealer never sealed the holes on the muffler and it needed to be replaced completely.he also stated that the fumes could in fact get inside the passenger compartment.also, the horn has never worked on the vehicle since it was purchased; therefore, the dealer constructed their own horn to correct the failure.the sliding door on the vehicle would not open and the vehicle would not unlock from the passenger compartment.in addition, the rear liftgate fell on the contact's head several times.the failure mileage was unknown.

Recall campaign 99v029000 was for ignition wiring harness.the wiring harness in my van overhead, shorted out the lights and other equipment and put off the odor of burning wires.i paid to have it replaced.i just found out about the recall and ford tells me that my van was not included in the recall.if i have the same problem as has been identified shouldn't it be covered?or maybe you need to expand the campaign.

Owner states that vehicle caught on fire and that fire department could not find the problem. Owner further notes that dashboard was in flames.
When trying to cut the vehicle off the key will not turn back to the lock position.the vehicle had to be towed.the transmission modules and the wiring harness were burnt. Consumer was told that they vehicle was not part of the recall #97v204000.

This incident caused me $1623 out of pocket expense.no defect mentioned inthe summary.
The main wiring harness from the fuel pump relay to the transmission melted the plugs down inside and outside.also burned the wiring harness to the horn relay which blew a fuse.it also burned a wire going into the fuse box under the dash on driver's side.
Vehicle was parked and shut off around 4 pm.later that night at approximately midnight,a neighbor informedconsumer thatvehicle was in flames.fire department inspector determined thatfire started inelectrical wiring harness.note: recall 99v029000 repairs had been performed prior tofire.

When taking the vehicle into for service the dealer noticed that the oil seal came off, and there is no oil in the vehicle. Also, the tranmission has no fuel, andwhen shifting gears there is a very loud banging noise, and the vehicle be shakes.

Brakes corroded due to frequent contamination by leakage from the air-conditioner evaporator coil system. Failure of the evaporator coil system resulted in two vehicle collison, when brakes failed from corrosion.

While driving at highway speeds at night, headlight switch (f49z-11654-a), with autolamp option, failed and headlights started flashing off and on then going out completely.this has occurred three times, 9/98 at 93,000 miles (switch replaced), 8/01 at 145,000 miles (new switch and block installed w/old wiring) and 10/02 at 160,000 miles (new switch and block w/new wiring installed).vehicle normally driven with headlights on for safety so useage time on switch is extensive.each time lights went out, the headlight switch contacts, terminals and wire terminal connectors had overheated and discolored.the overheating melted and distorted the plastic switch case and terminal block (d3tz-11a648-a), allowing or forcing terminals to distort or move.both of the battery power to main light switch terminals, a & b and the main light switch to dimmer switch terminal, were the only ones overheated.dt

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle's horizontal and vertical headlight adjusters fractured on 07/04/06.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 07/05/06 who determined that there was no replacement part available to repair the problem.the tension spring that assists in the proper functioning of the headlight adjusters was no longer available as well.the manufacturer was not alerted. First started out a couple of months ago.headlights would flicker off and then back on.i figured it was nothing.now the headlights flicker every 30-60 seconds, can not drive vehicle at night, have already been pulled over by police because of it.i explained to the officer there must be a problem with the headlights.

This part has a safety recall (nhtsa# 97v204 or ford recall # 97s83).however, it only includes vehicles manufactured after 1/3/92.since my vehicle was manufactured in october, 1991 (3 months earlier) it was not covered by the recall.i have already paid for the repair of leaking fluid, but i believe i should be reimbursed and the total fix should be installed at ford's expense to prevent additional failures and/or cause fires.

The contact owns a 1992 ford aerostar.upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact stated that the muffler was rusted and cracked.the dealer stated that the vehicle was fine and the fumes would exit out of the rear of the vehicle.the fire department stated that the fumes were entering the vehicle due to the holes.the dealer stated that they sealed the holes and the vehicle was fine.the midas mechanic stated that the dealer never sealed the holes on the muffler and it needed to be replaced completely.he also stated that the fumes could in fact get inside the passenger compartment.also, the horn has never worked on the vehicle since it was purchased; therefore, the dealer constructed their own horn to correct the failure.the sliding door on the vehicle would not open and the vehicle would not unlock from the passenger compartment.in addition, the rear liftgate fell on the contact's head several times.the failure mileage was unknown.

On friday, january 5, 2001, i was coming home on the 101 freeway when suddenly a truck cut in front of me.all i could do was slam on my brakes and i could feel something was pulling the car back, when i pushed the gas pedal the car had a hard time accelerating. This really scared me because i was on the 101 and 23 intersection.i had no way of pulling to the side of the road. I could smell something was burning really bad because i had to roll down my windows. I looked at the dash board and everything was normal.when i got off the freeway i called my husband and he smelled the brakes right away. When he touched the back tires it was really hot. He drove it home about one miles from our house and he only used the emergency brakes. Because he thought there was something wrong with the rear brakes.at home all the brake fluid drained out from the rear cylinders.the next day we took it to the mechanic who replaced the cylinders and the brake shoes. But he thought since i used the emergency brake and forgot to release it that caused the damage to the rear brake.on the same day my husband was driving the van and he had to slam on the brakes and it stayed locked, he touched the brake pedal again and the brake was fine again. We went back to the garage and check everything out but they found nothing wrong because all the lights were functioning properly. So my husband decided to take the fuse out from the abs brake.the problem disappeard.we came to the conclusionthat when the abs do the self-diagnostics, it doesn't detect a fault in the system and could not turn off the system so the regular brake should function properly. I took it to ford on monday, january 15, 2001 and they found the problem in the abs system.they replaced the rabs valve. The brake is good again. When i asked why rabs lights don't give me any warning and shut the system down, he said sometimes the light goes on sometimes it doesn't.

In the last year both of the front brake lines have ruptured, leaving us with no brakes. The ruptures occurred at low speeds ar when putting the van into drive. Only this prevented us from the potential of serious injury. Ford tells me that there has been on recall on this and i am left wondering if this will continue to occur. Mechanics that fixd the car both said this was a ford defect because they have never seen this type of failure before and this was abnormal. My wife will no longer drive the car.....what recourse do we have and is this a problem with these vehicles?

The major problem i see was that i had no braking save for the emergency brake. The rear brakes failed also and independent mechanics have told me that i should have only lost the front brakes due to the redundant brake cylinder system. However, the ford service manager said this was normal if you lost one line. If that's the case, this is a severe safety hazard that should be addressed. I contacted ford motor co. For technical advice and to report a possible flaw. The service manager had even said that the protection for the brake fittings had been improperly installed upon the vehicle at the factory.

The rear brakes failed also and independent mechanics have told me that i should have only lost the front brakes due to the redundant brake cylinder system. However, the ford service manager said this was normal if you lost one line. If that's the case, this is a severe safety hazard that should be addressed. I contacted ford motor co. For technical advice and to report a possible flaw. The service manager had even said that the protection for the brake fittings had been improperly installed upon the vehicle at the factory.

While traveling hit horn nothing happened, cruise control did not operate, and the airbag light illuminated. Dealer contacted, and could not remedy problems. Also, steering column gearshaft broke and replaced it with used parts/ clock spring was defective. Problems still exist.

The contact owns a 1992 ford aerostar.upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact stated that the muffler was rusted and cracked.the dealer stated that the vehicle was fine and the fumes would exit out of the rear of the vehicle.the fire department stated that the fumes were entering the vehicle due to the holes.the dealer stated that they sealed the holes and the vehicle was fine.the midas mechanic stated that the dealer never sealed the holes on the muffler and it needed to be replaced completely.he also stated that the fumes could in fact get inside the passenger compartment.also, the horn has never worked on the vehicle since it was purchased; therefore, the dealer constructed their own horn to correct the failure.the sliding door on the vehicle would not open and the vehicle would not unlock from the passenger compartment.in addition, the rear liftgate fell on the contact's head several times.the failure mileage was unknown.
