I bought this car from a dealer in fortville (carlux) who said it had a clean history, this car was meant to be driven by my 17 year old to school, after driving it for 1 week she noticed weird sounds on turning and the engine being very loud and not responding to acceleration or deceleration, thankfully she made it back home safely, i then took it to my local mechanic who noticed major safety issues with the vehicle and on running the vin number found out there are 2 safety recalls on it. Is there a law or regulation against the dealership that does that? it could have cost my child's life. Their address is: 222 w broadway street, fortville , in 46040 and contact # is (317) 777 1931
Safety recall is still not complete! clutch safety swicth

At times, constant, sometimes intermittent, warning 'airbag failure.' has been happening since i purchased the car several months ago. This is apparently a common problem and from what others have found, involves the wiring harness to airbag.
Brakes almost failed while driving, ignition stalled several times, steering is loose at times while driving. Reported on july 27,2015 to landmark fiat of atlanta, ga.about these problems and no one has gotten back to me as yet for repairs! scared to drive vehicle!
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. Another vehicle crashed into the front end of the contact's. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact's prosthetic arm had to be replaced and a rotator cuff was torn, which required medical attention. The vehicle was repaired, but the details of the repairs were unknown. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The speed was unknown. The failure mileage was 5,000.
Parked my 2012 fiat 500 in our outdoor parking space. I opened my driver seat door and got out shut my door and turn to go. I than heard a loud pop/ bang and turn to see my air bags side curtain and seat air bag had deployed. My girlfriend was in passenger seat when they deployed. The car was parked andignition/ engine was off with keys out. There was no reason for the deployment of air bags. I was not injured but my girlfriend has hearing issues. We have had no help from the fiat dealership.
Takata recall? traveling on a poorly designed new tollway heading toward an exit ramp decelerating from the 70 mph speed limit, the vehicle hydroplaned and impacted a retaining wall. The driver, passenger, and lower curtain airbags deployed. There was no passenger in the car. The driver was struck in the upper right chest with something that sliced through the fleece lined rain jacket worn, and whatever it was was so hot that it melted the edges of the cut material. The driver also sustained extensive deep bruising in the location of the strike. Had the driver not been wearing the jacket, there would have been serious damage to the flesh beyond bruising, and had the strike happened slightly higher, injuries leading to death could have occurred. There is no published information stating that the airbags in this vehicle are takata, but the damage and injuries resulting from the deployment suggest that they are. The driver was taken to the hospital via ambulance. All injuries were seatbelt and air bag related. The driver's corneas are also severely abraded due to paticulate material projected during the airbag deployment.
I have had to take my vehicle to ken garff fiat at 198 e 500 s in salt lake city utah in order to get the clutch fixed the clutch went out at 179840 miles and now i am being charged $925.00 to replace the cluth. I am also being told that there is no recall for the part on my clutch when i know there is and that i must replace the whole clutch i am also being to told that my steering colum is broken however as of todays day no one mechanic at ken garff fiat has driven the vehilce. I have also been given a loaner vehilc to drive from ken garff fiat i just i want my vehilce and i want it woring properly and i want it to pass safety and edmissons before the vehicle is released to mei have contacted chysler at 888-242-6342 over 387 times since 2013 chysler has been unwilling to intervene i am concerned about the saftey of myself and my 14 year old child in this vehilce. My car has been at ken garff fiat since 10-03-2016 and as of todays date 10-19-2016 the work is still not complete!
My 2012 fiat 500 vehicle was moving @ 55mph on cruise control when it experienced a crash with another vehicle that pulled across its path. The fiat struck other the vehicle broadside near the rear of the other vehicle with right half of front of fiat.fiat then pitched to the right and then rolled (side to roof) twice landing finally on its wheels.as the driver, i assure you i feel lucky to be alive. However, not even one single airbag in the fiat deployed --- not the driver's airbag, not the passenger airbag, not the side air bags, not the rear head air bag and not the side head curtain air bags. There have never been any air bag warning lights illuminated on this fiat.this fiat has always been serviced at a fca/chrysler dealership. There has never been any mention of any air bag problems by any of the service personnel who have serviced the vehicle during any of the service visits. Part of my decision to buy this particular vehicle instead of another compact car was the vehicles abundance of air bagsand 4 and 5 star overall, frontal, side and rollover crash ratings.if the airbags do not deploy on these vehicles, i do not think the safety rating can be considered correct. .updated 07/21/15 updated 9/22/2015
I took my car in to fiat in slc utah ken garff they took my car said i had an oil leak then came back and said i needed a catalyst converter i believe the electronic system has been hacked into by the dealership in order to make money which puts me and my 13 year old child are at risk in this car please help i have been though this same thing in buford ga please help i want fiat to buy my car back i own it out right please i dont trust the dealer something is going on with the electonic system
A vehicle in the right lane made a u-turn, crossing the left lane causing the fiat to t-bone the vehicle making the u-turn. The seat belt did not restrain the fiat driver and the driver contacted the steering wheel with enough force to cause a significant compression injury to the sternum. The driver was transported by ems to a hospital. The vehicle could not be driven and suffered nearly $13,000 damage.earlier in the drive, the fiat 500 driver had to rock forward at an on-ramp to release the seat belt in order to view approaching traffic via the left outside mirror. Apparently, the seat belt does not or did not reengage after this movement leaving it free and the driver unrestrained. Air bags did not deploy.
Concerns that vehicle s34 recall has never been complete vehicle is now for sale at a car dealership no paper trail on the recall.
Passsenger air bags constantly warning error and disabling.
Was driving on the freeway and the car lost power.all lights on indicator dash went off. No steering ability and little/no control of vehicle. Failure resulted in a crash.no airbags deployed even though there was side impact to both sides and front end impact.the car was totaled.
When i purchased the vehicle the airbag light came on. The dealership refused to repair it.in the winter when pushing the bake down, i get a funny noise and i have to pump the brakes in order to get the vehicle to stop.i refuse to allow my children to drive due to this.also when ever taking the vehicle back to the dealership where i purchased it, assessories on the car would be taken off.i was told to take the car to fiat dealership on ridge road and i would have to pay a fee for them to look at it.then i was told by carmax that they would pay for it.fiat wanted their fee upfront and carmax refused to pay for it.i tried several times to have this problem looked at, i finally gave up.the problem still exist .the car is a nice car, but i cannot get satisfaction in getting it repaired.the car was loaded when i purchased it and had been in an accident before buying it of which i was not told this.
Was in a crash and the car was totaled. Not 1 air bag deployed.happenrd on dec. 9, 2020.
On november 20, 2018, i had an accident with my fiat 500 sport (images and video attached). I have contacted fiat in brazil, usa, europe and the dominican republic, so that they could find out what has happened, since the air bag will not work in my vehicle.i have complete video.i have not had any answer, fiat brasil says that it is not theirs, europe and the usa will not answer anything, that is, at the time of purchase they are optimal, but the attention to the client and the post sale, disappointing to say nothing worst. *dsy
Takata recall - chrysler owns fiat and i had a problem with my air bags on a 2012 fiat. I was in a small fender bender. All air bags opened but all the front air bags ruptured. No one else was in the car with me but the sensor in the passenger seat did not kick in. All air bags deployed. I had injuries which were a fractured elbow, dislocated my arm in two places. Since then i am having trouble with my shoulder, neck, headaches, and my back. I am going to the doctors and physical therapy. Please get back to me as soon as possible as i am going to hire an attorney to see what can be done. My insurance company consider it a total loss.
Warning says airbag malfunction, all the time.brakes wear every 1000 miles.wheel bearings went out at 70,000 miles..these malfunctions happen when moving...
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500c. The contact was driving 40 mph and crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. There was damage to the front fender and the front driver's side door. The contact sustained a mild concussion. A police report was not filed of the incident. The vehicle was not inspected to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The failure and current mileage was 20,000.
One day my air bag failiure light came om along with a fuel cutoff unavailble light. Both of these lights were temporarily fixed by manually locking and unlocking the doors. Recently that fix has not worked. While these errors are happening my cruise control will not turn on at all.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving at 40 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle that was stopped. The air bags did not deploy. The contact mentioned that the air bag warning light illuminated. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a whiplash that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an impound lot. The failure mileage was 25,500.
Airbag cover is loose and i can see the airbag.
I constantly get a "driver side air bag failure, see handbook" notification on my dashboard.there's no rhyme or reason.no set speed when it happens.it happens typically if you go over bumps, like there's a short in it.but no one can fix it.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v302000 (air bags) however, the parts for the recall were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The airbag failure warning light has consistently activated on my new fiat since i purchased the vehicle new. Have returned the car for service to the dealer numerous times regarding this issue; many times the dealer has informed me that they show no indication of the airbag failure light being activated. Since then, i have taken numerous photos with my phone of the airbag failure warning light being triggered as the dealer's service department seemed to need more evidence of this occurrence. However, the issue has yet to be resolved and i am seeking resolution through the better business bureau.
Air bag lights are not showing on the instrument cluster the airbags are not working!
The starter motor fails to engage at random times. I have taken it to the dealership and to local mechanics and none have been able to replicate the issue. The starter motor will sometimes start right up for them, causing them to rule out a faulty starter. If the vehicle is left over night, it may start right back up. After selling the car on 2 occasions, both new owners reported within 24 hours of ownership that the vehicle would not start after having driven it for more than 10mi. I believe fca is well-aware of this relatively common issue. A google search for this problem yields pages upon pages of owners reporting similar issues. I can share youtube videos of owner's either reporting the problem or comments of others having a similar issuehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7soezkwut4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pffvy3arsvs
The rear high brake light wiring on the convertible wears and breaks in the driver's side c pillar due to use of the convertible top rendering the brake light non-operative. This seems to be a common problem with the fiat 500 convertible.
Pulling away from a stop light under light acceleration, multiple warning lights came on including "esc disabled" and multiple light warnings for the gearbox, the steering, electronic throttle control, general malfunction light, esc off light, and esc malfunction light, and lost power steering, almost causing an accident while trying to get the car off the road. The car was shut off and restarted immediately with no change. After letting the car sit for a half-hour, the car was restarted and steering was restored and no warning light were on. The vehicle was driven home and parked until it was towed to the dealership. They drove the car over 50 miles and were unable to repeat the incident or identify the problem so they released the unrepaired vehicle to the owner.
Body seams left open/unwelded during manufacturing causing water leaks and electrical problems affecting brakes, lighting, restraint systems, power door locks, windows, mirrors, abs, esp, hill start assist, etc. Open/unwelded areas also weren't painted during manufacturing. Improper repairs performed. "sealant" applied to close seams that should have been welded.purchased 12/22/2011. Found interior wet on 12/25/2011. Returned to dealer on 01/02/2012. Spent 21 days in the shop. Problem was found to be, "numerous open body seams measuring over 10 inches long that were left open and unwelded and unpainted during manufacturing."car was returned to me "repaired" on 1/23/2012. I immediately began experiencing numerous electrical problems.then, noticed that the car was leaking, again, and even worse, on 1/30/2012.car was never repaired/improperly repaired. Interior very wet. Electrical problems getting worse. Problems with brakes and 'hill start assist'. Fiat will not return my calls. I've sent letters asking that the car be replaced.the car is unsafe to drive.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contacted stated that the brake lights failed without warning. In addition, the speedometer and odometer lights failed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (criswell fiat, 88 bureau dr, gaithersburg, md, 20878), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
Trunk / hatch pinched wire harness causing short. Could not open trunk, license plate light would not illuminate. Fiat does not make a pig tail replacement, shop had to re-wire trunk cousting 180.00 for new deck handel, and 600.00 for splicing in new harness
First wipers stopped working consistently then trunk and door locks wouldn't respond to fob and trunk can't be opened.
My fiat has less than 36k miles my driver's side door handle has broken off and has been on national back order for over a month. I can not even get it fixed right now. Also my starter does not work and i have to pop start the engine at the moment becausei can not order the starter to replace it. The car has less than 36k miles

"takata recall"mechanical defect has been detected. My car was on the highway when suddenly it randomly began stating to "check transmission see handbook." i took it to a fiat dealership in which i immediately advised them of the diagnosis code p0741 had been provided to them at drop off before any work was performed - tony (the service advisor) said that was not helpful could mean anything. (diagnosis means: torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off) i was advised numbers lies and was told i needed a new transmission. Turns out there is a fault in the wiring of the system and computer which is now causing car to not stay in gear. I want to raise all awareness to this issue. Especially since the purchase of this car (only 58k in mileage) i have had to personally replace thefollowing: number of radiator repairs: 2sunroof: 1transmission: faulty mechanical errortotal tune ups: 2brake installments: 3i was not made aware of any prior issues before purchase all issues have occurred due to manufacture negligence! no accidents have occurred. Please assist me in any way possible.
Concerns that vehicle s34 recall has never been complete vehicle is now for sale at a car dealership no paper trail on the recall.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving at various speeds, several unknown warning lights illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that with multiple attempts, the vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred intermittently. In addition, when parked, the vehicle was not able to start and the key could not be removed from the ignition switch. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle's system had to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was serviced, but the remedy failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,400.
I can not get my headlights to shut off when i contact fiat at 888-242-6342 they tell me that it is some kind of updating softwarecalled follow me 30. I know for fact that this vehicle did not have this software available for the 2012 that software was only used on vehicles in 2010 and fiat didn't have 5 dealershipsin the entire united states of america if they had one in 2010. The software follow me was only on foreign fiat cars also i keep getting a light saying tire pressure monitoring is unavailable! when i call fiat i get poor customer service i even had a lady call me a criminal for giving my whole vin # she stated she needed to "make sure you didn't just walk by the vehicle and give a vin # that you got from somethingelse." i believe fiat is hacking in to vehicles in an effort to get customers to bring the vehicles to ken graff fiat 198 e 500 south salt lake city utah 84111. I refuse to go back to this car dealership because they seem to be more concerned whith when and where i purchased the car and if i had a car note fiat tried to pretend that they didnt have parts avalible and to get me to drive a loaner car. I own my car! i dont have a car note and it seems to be alot of funny business going on in regards ken graff and chysler fiataurbun hills refuses to help with the matter alsothe milegage seems to have slowed down a whole lot for example if i drive 20 miles it will only show 15. I want my car to worknot be a danger to my child and myselfmy car now has 176,000 miles on it!
The car was driven to shopping center, parked ok but when leaving the vehicle started, then engine cut out. Now the vehicle will not start. Engine cranks but engine warning lights goes on. Towed to jeep/chrysler dealer (don allen in nantucket) and they said it was electrical issue. Towed to another repair shop and they said they couldn't fix it (electrical issue).called fiat and they said not their problem. Car has 27,000 miles.
After a week of driving the car, i noticed the time on the clock was 10 minutes fast. I reset the clock and three days later, it was 2 minutes fast again. I repeatedly adjusted the clock every week for about 18 months. After 8 months, i decided to let it continue to run fast to see if it would continue. About a month ago, it got to the point that i had to go ahead and reset it because i never really knew what time t was without checking my phone. At that point, the clock had not been reset for 6 months and was 50 minutes fast. Very inconvenient for the driver and causes a distraction just to check my phone to make sure i'm not late to work or an appointment.
Electrical issues throughout the car causing the trunk to not be able to open.check engine light, they're going to have to change spark plugs and ignition coil.light bulbs in middle console all have to be replaced.engine and air filters
A few weeks ago, i woke up and drove to work in the morning. My fiat parked, i worked, everything was good. 5 hours later, i get back to my car to drive home. I start my engine and the dashboard lights up saying, "hill start error ... See owners manual". I thought to myself, "welp, l guess i'll go see a mechanic now.".i lift the e-break, press down the break pedal, and then try to move the car into reverse, but it's locked in park. I turn off the car. I use google search on my phone to find my fiat 500 owner's manual online. I look for the "hill start error" and find an override to get my car out of park and into reverse/drive. I restart the car. Now the dashboard is completely blank except for the letter 'p' in the bottom-center of the circular dash panel. The letter "p" is blinking concurrently with a beep that does not stop. There is no measure of speed and i'm not entirely sure if my lights are working at this point. I'm just trying to get the car to a mechanic about 10 miles away. I found an honest-family spot and the guy tells me to leave the car there and he'll look at it. Break lights were out and a safety feature caused it to lock up. A common issue is a break-light switch with this car, so...we replaced the bls and did a full diagnostics, but still no fix. We troubleshoot all week and found that a 5-amp fuse blew out in the body control module. He replaced the fuse and found that it burned out again because of a loose wire somewhere behind the steering wheel. If i run the car, the loose wire will cause more connections to burnout and break. The car shorts if we run it now.the loose wire causing this short caused my car's gearshift to lock up completely, disabled my break lights, and lead to shortages across the board. I can't drive it at all, let alone start it. I barely have 89k on this car and it's pretty much cooked.
The wiring harness gets crimped when it goes from the main body of the car into the hatch creating shorts and malfaction of electric components. As, does the rear wiper hose. Which leaks and empties into the wiring harness. This happens everywhere, at all times.
After dealer replaced faulty rear main seal in july/august 2013, rear wiper blade would activate with controls in off position, causing me to have to move front windshield wiper control arm up and down, and then rear wiper blades would stop.also the car starter would intermittently make a electrical noise after turning the key and the car wouldn't start, then i had to turn key two to three times to start car. After two months with above, in cold weather below 35 degrees the stereo, cd player, blueme systems won't work!it only starts to work after the car and surrounding environment reaches 40-45 degrees.called into dealer and have appointment for checking all and repair/replace components not working properly and safely.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when attempting to drive. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was towed to ron lewis chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat cranberry (21145 us-19, cranberry twp, pa 16066, (724) 452-4040) where it was diagnosed that the starter mounting bolt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the power steering module failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Stopped at bank to withdraw some cash and the alternator started on fire! had the car towed to mechanic to repair .
Within several weeks after purchase of fiat 500 we encountered a problem starting the engine.upon turning the ignition key the engine responded with an electrical motor whine but did not start.after several repeated attempts the engine would start and function normally.gas mileage has never been as high was represented in sales information.the vehicle has been returned to the dealer multiple times for correction but the dealer has been unable to diagnose the problem.a complaint has been lodged with both the dealer and fiat usa.
I'd pulled over in a parking lot to take a phone call (bluetooth reception was static-y), and was sitting with my foot resting on the brake pedal. I felt a kick under my foot, turned the engine off and removed my foot from the brake as i completed the call. When i started the car and pulled to the edge of the lot's exit, i of course stepped on the brake to stop and check for traffic, but the brake pedal was stuck and i rolled into the street. I hope i used the handbrake to stop the car, although i really don't remember. I did reverse back into the parking lot, using the slight slope of the driveway to ensure i could stop once out of the street. The car was towed to the dealer.it's probably unrelated, but the voice recognition system was working sporadically that same morning.
I was driving on the highway when the vehicle shut off and dropped speed quickly, was advised by the dealer that it was an electrical shortage to the battery as the car was brand new. Took the vehicle back in for repair, and it has happened three more times since that over the past two years. Two of those times were also on the highway. The most recent was last month (september 13, 2014) while making a u-turn at a light in front of moving traffic the car completely shut off right after my turn. Luckily, i was able to coast to the side and the car behind me saw me in time to stop.
The key fob button is not recessed. This means the ignition key often opens into my pocket just from normal body movement. It stabs my thigh. This is a vehicle safety problem because it happens when i am driving my other vehicle and can be extremely distracting.
I bought my car in october of 2016 i paid $10,000 for it it had 56,000 miles on it i bought it because i am handicapped and i need it a small car but also one where i could put a walker or wheelchair in which i cannot because the wires all broke in the hat from a manufacture defect i had i just now was able to get it repaired it cost me $430 and then because of the electrical wires being broke they shorted out a computer so they still don't work i still cannot open my hatch and get into the back of my car to be able to put a walker or wheelchair in and i feel that the manufacturer needs to correct this for me for i'm disabled and i don't have that kind of money i wouldn't have bought the car if i known it had this issue it is not handicap accessible and it also the car could have caught fire it is all i will not pass safety inspection because of this please help
The hatch switch has had to be repaired 3 times. Its a design flaw that shorts out the switch. There should be a recall!
My gear shifter wire broken to the point it would gets stuck in drive or park or reverse even though i had shifted to a different position. When i would turn off my car even thought i put it in park it still believed that it was in reverse and would roll.
We recently went in for a recall to the shift mechanism.upon completion, the dealer failed to secure the ground wire back to the battery.after a few short trips, the loose connection caused the alternator to fail.the dealer will not take ownership of this and wants $930 for the repair.customer service believes this is simply an old car and will not support it either.ultimately this will cause us to think twice before acting on the next recall notice.
Safety recall is still not complete! clutch safety swicth
Trunk will not open
My car [xxx] 2012 fiat 500 pop 2 door hatchback has still not had the safety recall fixed fiat chrysler is in contempt of court because my recall has not been fixed in a timely matter!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Periodically the starter will not engage.it does a whine as though the starter on the vehicle is a starter that is going out.i took it back to butler fiat in indianapolis, in on april 1st , as the problem became worse and worse.they replaced the starter under warrantybut it started doing the same thing less than two weeks after replacement.something was mentioned at the time about faulty bolt or a part in the starter causing a malfunction.if anyone has ever had a starter go out in a car it is the same sound when the rotary does not engage and you have to make a second attempt to start the car.my vehicle still has less than 13,000 miles on it and i need the problem fixed.
Reported electrical burning smell thru ventilation system.dealership denied electrical burning but found gas puncture in plastic gas tank, says smell is from burning gas. (owner disagrees) however with no other suspension orbody damage found except the gas tank puncture there is great concern that this is a serious dangerous design flaw. That the tank can be punctured so easily without the knowledge of driver of any event.
Car was stalling and shutting off.had my daughter in the car.couldn't start the car after 3 attempts.then after waiting a good 3 minutes started the car and revved the engine at 4000 rpm and everything seemed back to normal.dealer hasn't been able to duplicate.
Tire pressure monitor does not function or reset.the car is not able to measure the tire pressure, it states unavailable.the dealership mechanics said to reset it, but upon driving it would reset.. However, it never did.the dealership said it was not their problem although car was just purchased within 2 weeks to be exact.the monitor does not recognize low or high pressure on tires, and the car is not equipped with an emergency tire.mechanics said it was normal for this year car, and while sitting waiting for another service, several people seem to complain for the same issue.monitor not working, but everyone was offered to be reset for a price, website does not help, mopar will not set it, and the mechanics will charge, but the reset does not work no matter what you do.

Was driving on the freeway and the car lost power.all lights on indicator dash went off. No steering ability and little/no control of vehicle. Failure resulted in a crash.no airbags deployed even though there was side impact to both sides and front end impact.the car was totaled.
This occurred about 6 times already. When making a left or right turn the vehicle shuts off and coasts until you stop to shut it off and turn back on. The battery and oil pressure lights come on during the coasting. Came very close to being hit twice due to this problem, but the dealer say they haven't heard anything like this before.
Since i purchased my 2012 fiat 500 sport in september of 2012 i have had this issue. Occasionally (about 4 times a week), the car fails to start. When turning the key in the ignition, the car makes a noise as if it is going to start but winds down and loses power. I turn the key back, wait about 5 seconds and the car will normally start. This happens all year around. I contacted the holt fiat of fort worth where the car was purchased and took it in to be looked at. They could not replicate the issue. It is very random but happens very often.
The wire harness from the body to the hatchback becomes crimped and causes broken wires causing the 3rd brake light, rear wiper, license plate lights, and rear door latch not to work this is a known problem with all fiat 500's and a safety issue when the 3rd brake light does not work as if a fuse blows on the regular brake lights the 3rd light should still work. Also all states require lights illumination the license plate at night. Also the rear wiper is essential on this vehicle in a rain situation to see behind the vehicle
Intermittent exterior marker light failure. Front passenger marker light and rear driver's side brake light fail to operate on occasion. The light sensor in the gauge cluster alerts to failure. When later investigating, all lights appear to function properly.

I own a 2012 fiat pop that i purchased new about a year ago. One thing that did not go away and was ever present at any time was the limp mode for the engine over the last few days. Recycling did not work to correct problem and gauges were out. The indicator light on panel showed in limp mode when it worked.gauges kept going on and off sometimes for short periods and other times for longer periods.on 6/10/13 my vehicle caught fire in the dashboard. I was traveling back from the store in limp mode hoping it would go out but never did.i parked the car in front of my development pool and went to visit my employee there. Within about 5 minutes or so she said that my lights were flashing. I checked and went to the vehicle. It was engulfed with smoke and a nasty electrical smell.fire department came.i was told that i had to wait for the fire inspector to come and examine my vehicle. He came. Began tearing my dashboard apart to find the cause or source of the fire. It was determined by his knowledge and experience that the body control unit had failed and caused the fire. Vehicle is totaled.the vehicle has only about 4000 miles on it.earlier that day before the incident i had called the local fiat dealer. Explained the problem of the gauges not working, and limp mode, i asked if it was safe to drive and he said yes. At this point i made an appointment to have the vehicle looked at hopefully that day. Only opening was next day at 2pm.i have filed an insurance claim and the vehicle has been towed away.
Really cold morning, upon starting, the tpms reported the left front tire low on pressure. And tire light stayed on. I had all 4 tires checked and filled to specs, continental tires, but the tire light stayed on for the next day and a half, wherein i drove about 65 miles, and turned the car on/off numerous times. (at work, store, overnight, etc.) the tire place that i took the car too to have the air checked, was unable to determine how to reset the tpms. There was nothing out about this car yet. (fyi, you can use a chrysler reset unit) the tire light finally went out the next day on it's own on the way home from work. Went to the fiat dealership a few days later to find out how to reset the tpms if/when it happens again. The service manager checked it out. Let air out until the light came on, then filled it to the correct pressure, then drove it about 50 feet, and the tpms light reset itself. So, the system appears to operating properly now after what i had observed. Will watch to see if it becomes a problem.
Air bag lights are not showing on the instrument cluster the airbags are not working!

On feb 11th 2017 i took my vehicle to a chysler dodge jeep dealer in sandy utah (lhm) i ask them if they could repair my vehicle. They said yes so i authorizedlarry h miller chysler dodge jeep to work on my vehilce. Ken garff fiat refused to give the parts to larry h miller and backed the dealership into a corner making larry h miller take the car to ken garff fiat at 198 e 500 s in salt lake city utah and i know for fact ken garff refused to give larry h. Miller the parts for the vehilcebecause ken garff fiat likes to force everyone to come to their dealership well ken garff had the vehilce towed to them and kept the vehilce from 12noon until 5pm stating they had not started work on the vehilce and they had plans to work on the vehilce over night when the shop was closed i told ken garff they will not be working on my vehilce over night and not to touch my car well now my car is setting on ken garff lot with not one piece of paperwork that says ken garff can touch my vehilce and if they try to lie and say they do then they have forged my signature.i had my plates removed from the car i contacted larry h miller and told them on 02/15/2017 that iwould like for them to take the car back to larry h miller. The recall is still not complete and ken garff refuses to give the proper parts so another chysler dealership can work on the vehilce ........... I want to note that larry h miller chysler dodge jeep is wonderful and i am being treated with respect by larry h. Millerchrysler doge jeep and their staff....... However the recall work is still incomplete because ken garff fiat 198e 500s of salt lake city utahwill not give larry h miller parts.
Dash displays two mph - one gauge and one digital. When driving at 50mph, both display 50mph. When driving any slower or faster, they do not match. When driving through a school zone, the gauge shows 20mph while the digital shows 23mph. When driving on the highway, digital will show 65mph and gauge shows 68-70. The only time the two match is when i drive a steady 50mph. Gauge shows slower when driving below 50mph and shows faster when driving about 50mph.

Electrical issues throughout the car causing the trunk to not be able to open.check engine light, they're going to have to change spark plugs and ignition coil.light bulbs in middle console all have to be replaced.engine and air filters
The esc button will not turn off esc. Normally this isn't an issue, but when i am stuck in snow it would help to turn esc off. The owners manual even suggests this. My button will not disable esc some times. The button works intermittently. The dealer has inspected it multiple times. The "esc off" light should illuminate when it is really off, but this doesn't happen.
Oil presure light comes on saying stop turn engine off low iol pressure after i drive it for about 10 mins i guess after it get hot. Then chexk engine liggt comes with it. While driving home via local city surface streets, the gearbox fail light and the have transmission checked message came up on the dash cluster.i drove the car 4 more miles to a service station, stopping twice on the way.the car began running poorly.including bucking, revving high, while staying atlow speed, stalling and bucking at lights low idle or stops.the service station said other than a low number (4 times per 1000 i think...a cylinder misfire) no codes came up.when reset the car would run briefly as normal butat first stop all issues would resume in full again.i was able to drive the car home (2 blocks) but was not sure it would make it.it sits in my parking spot as we speak.
Just like everyone else that owns a 2012 it won't hold oil pressure
2012 fiat pop, 14,693 miles.i am the second owner.driving at 25 mph, the engine light came on, and a message advising that i should pull over because there was low oil, the oil light warning came on.drove car to dealer at 1820 santa monica boulevard, santa monica fiat.they diagnosed code p1068 which they advised is a "cylinder 2 oil supply selonoid out of range."al at the dealer advised that it would take 5 - 6 hours to diagnose the problem, and he didn't want to spend the time to do it.he further advised that he heard a noise (which i could not hear) and that the code and noise combined indicates that the car needs a new crank shaft and that metal shavings from bearing failure could cause oil pump stress and damage to oil pump, which would cost $4,016.90 plus tax.i declined the repairs because al's advice was based on him hearing a noise, and not based on diagnosis by a hands-on mechanic.the engine light remains on.al, at the fiat dealer, will not take further steps to rule out other (less expensive) reasons the engine light would come on (e.g., failed gas cap, etc.)."hearing a noise" is not grounds to make a $4,000+ repair on a car with merely 14,000+ miles.the engine light combined with fiat's lack of care to fix the problem could be a road hazard.when i complained to al that he had not actually diagnosed the problem, but rather "guessed" that the car needed a new crank shaft, he decided not to charge me.he said, "you're right, we didn't do the work to make sure you need it."he admitted it was a guess, and noted that he "would not know for sure till the vehicle has gone through a tear down." i am nervous with the engine light on, and no true diagnosis from fiat (it could be anything from a gas cap problem to a failed engine).
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving various speeds, a knocking noise was heard coming from the engine and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (fiat of freemont in freemont, ca) who was unable determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued. The vehicle was taken to normandin fiat in san jose where it was diagnosed that the engine was faulty due to a failing main bearing and a crankshaft failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 2,000.
Anytime sport mode is engaged, car does not decrease in speed properly. Even with brake applied, the car lunges forward as i'm trying to slow down. When driving using sport mode, i have to stay very far away from other vehicles in case of sudden braking because the vehicle will not slow down properly. My husband drove my car in sport mode not knowing that it lunged forward when braking and wound up an inch away from someone's bumper after attempting to slow down from a speed of about 20mph. This is extremely unsafe for the driver and other's around.
Multiple occasions, probably > 10 times in past two months. At low steady speed, such as driving in a parking lot, when i let up on gas pedal, the car does not slow down immediately. One expects the immediate, slight feeling of deceleration on the body, but it doesn't come right away. Usually it lasts about one second. It has lasted up to three seconds. Recently this happened while driving steadily at 30mph, i let up on accelerator entering a 20mph zone, and car did not slow down immediately. This was the occasion it took 3 seconds. I have been paying attention to this issue recently because it happens so much. I have not noticed this problem at high speed, such as expressway driving.

Hi,i have had several issues with my car which have had several attempts to fix. Safety concerns regarding the cruise control locking up on my vehicle, convertible top still not adjusting and blocking line of sight in the back so you cannot see what is behind you while driving, and start up issues with car not always starting up correctly, having misfires. The car has only been worked on the dealership where i purchased the vehicle at the fiat of van nuys, ca. The car has been worked on several times since i first purchased it back in jan of 2013. I am seeking out any help necessary as i have had these safety concerns since i first got the car to now and i am feel very unsafe with the work that has been done as well as my own safety as well as others.thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
My car had problems shifting gears and the high coolant temperature light went on.the warning said stop and turn car off immediately. I pulled into my driveway and had the car towed to stateline fiat where i purchased the car.they topped off the coolant and said the car was ready to be picked up.i got in the car and it started to shake when i turned the ignition.they said it was a loose cap and tightened it.i drove back home and within 3 months the same thing happened again.the car was towed to a new local fiat.over the past 2 and a half years, i have had to pull off on the side of the road multiple times and have the car towed.no one can seem to find the exact issue with the car, but they keep telling me it is fixed.the bottom line is i do not feel safe driving this car.i feel my safety and the safety of other drivers is in jeopardy when this vehicle is on the road.
The parts are not available for my recall. I am not able to drive the car and fiat does not have a solution for me.the dealer herb chambers wanted me to pay to have defective parts put in the car or they would charge me storage for having the car on their lot.i asked for a rental car free of charge to me and was denied.my car sits in my driveway and i am without a car to drive. The clutch on the car stays to the floor when i push it in to change gears.this could be very dangerous if i was on the high way trying to shift into gear.when the clutch is on the floor i could not get the car into gear while i was driving the car.
Car has oil leak from engine main seal.issue adviced to dealer upon sale, mechanics denied until 3rd party estimate.then dealer said to have fixed it until once again the issue came up--service done for maintenance kept. Dealership sold. New owners of dealers found same problem. New warranty denied claims and said it was a prex condition that was not taken care.car continues to leak oil and issue is now on my bill as responsibility. Issue is a fiat brand for the year 2012 and should be fiat responisbilility to monitor and recall cars with these issues to fix.fiat too needs to monitor dealerships that sell used cars with problems they deny to service prior to selling and aware of the issue before it was sold along with a recall that had not been serviced prior to the sale and old manager/prior to sale of business did not take care of although aware it was in place..

2012 fiat 500.consumer writes in regards to vehicle "generic warning light" illuminated.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While drivingvarious speeds or while parked, the check transmission, check engine, and esc warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the first time the failure occurred, the vehicle felt sluggish while driving and an unknown odor was detected in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. There were no warning indicators illuminated and no failure codes. The contact stated that the warning indicators illuminated later. The vehicle was taken to ron lewis chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat cranberry (21145 us-19, cranberry twp, pa 16066 (724) 452-4040), but the failure still could not be determined or duplicated. The third time the failure occurred, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a diagnosis still could not be made; however, four spark plugs and the number one coil were changed because the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact mentioned that the failure still occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
Car diagnosed with transmission cooler failure. Warmed car up in the morning for 5 minutes(cold morning, low below zero). Noticed after getting in the car that it was still cold inside. On the way to work after 8 miles or so and the heater still blowing cold air, the high temperature/turn of engine warning message appeared and the digital temp gauge was at max. Stopped car and had it towed to fiat dealer for service. They diagnosed it as a transmission cooler failure. Thinking is that the engine coolant froze, damaging the transmission cooler and causing it to mix trans fluid and engine coolant. There were no warning signs this was about to happen, car acted normal previous day of driving. This happened 3000 miles past the warranty expiring.
As of 01/15/2017 my 2012 fiat 500 pop recall has still not been fixed correctly. I am currently renting a vehicle for transportation. Fiat chrysler has not paid me one penny toward my vehicle rental. I have received random emails from chrysler the last email was dated january 13, 2017 saying they had an updated on case #30818709. What update could they have my vehicle recall has not been fixed in a timely manner. My vehicle has not been fixed at all. The truth is there are very few mechanics in the united states of america capable of fixing a fiatbecause of the unique design most mechanics don't have the proper training for this particular design of vehicle nor do they have the correct tools the vehicle is designed using a european metric system in order to bring the vehicle to safety standards fiat mechanics need the proper training and tools! bottom line my recall has not been fixed!
Driving home during rush hour traffic, came to a stop at a red light.clutch failed, could not engage any gear. Was able to get vehicle out of traffic and towed to service station.fiat claiming that it is a worn clutch after 27,000 miles.will only support clutch for first 12,000 miles.it's good my children were not in the car or this would have been a seriously dangerous situation.

Car is very young, 24, 781 miles and turned in by prior owner with 22,400's miles. After car was sold with a recall, it was noted it also suffers from oil leaking from the rear main transmittion, per mechanic it affects both the transmition and the motor, and could cause death if car ran out of oil.leak per several independent mechanics is too soon for a fiat with so little miles, and a car that still owns the original tires, wipers, and still has the smell from when it was new. Car by prior owner was for vacation, but car now leaks and it seems many vehicles this year model have the same issue per blogs and fiat complaints blogs, unfortunately the dealer wont fix the problem and mechanics are in shock car was sold with a recall and when it was serviced they too refused to work on the seal waiting for the car to go through the bank first & hope for a warranty to pay for the labor and part, even after i offered to pay for the part while they were already in the car changing.howerver, they failed to inform me about the issue, until i got home with the car.issue is life threatening by mechanics words, and all 4 different shops demanded i either return the car to the dealer or demand they fix it before i would end up dead or in an accident on the highway.this issue should not be part of a young car, it should not be leaking from a seal, particularly the transmition main rear seal, which per mechanic it too affects the motor and the t ransmission ability to function on a manual vehicle.
With a low mileage (under 20k miles), the car has been in taken back to the service department for over 5 times for main seal (between engine and the transmission) leakage, engine programming recall, and repeated noise when the car is in motion that can't be identified/fixed.
An issue involving the starter motor bolts not being grounded. Caused intermittent starting.this issue is a known issue for fiat under the following:customer satisfaction notification n15 starter motor mounting bolts2012 (ff) fiat 500note: this notification applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle (sales code ddf) built from march 15, 2011 through june 30, 2011 (mdh 031500 through 063023). '' however, it is not covered under my car...but it is the same problem...i see other fiat owners reporting this issue...but there has not been a recall...this caused me to miss approx 2 days of work...pay for a tow truck...and send to a dealer to fix at a cost of 280 dollars for a known issue by fiat....
When i am driving and i am start slowing down for a light before it get to a full stop the transmission down shift to quick that makes the car jerk, i stop and wait for the light to change and it downshift by itself, it feels like somebody is hitting you on the rear of the car but nobody is there .i brought the car several times to the dealer but because it does not happen all the time nothing they could do about it. One of the times that i was at the dealer it happened. I put the car in reverse, drove it for 10 feet and then shifted to forward and the transmission would not do anything for 3 to 4 seconds then a jump (shifted to 1st gear) i was with the person who makes the appointments so he told me to bring the car next day. Next day they drove it and the car would shift fine so nothing was fixed. Last week,i told then to keep the car and let the foreman to drive it home so he would feel what it was happening, he told me that it happened once but on downshift and that could be a computer program and i have to wait until fiat develop a new program.they tried everything that they know and the final solutionwas the way that i drive or the computer have to adjust when i change my driving from the highway to the city i thing is a lot of bsi drive 120 miles daily to work and i am worry that the downshiftwill happen when i am driving on highway speed and of course they told me that the downshift will not happen on higher speedeven that they said they do not know why i keep bringing the car with the same transmission problem.please help me to resolve this problem because even the car folds on the lemon law still i have to makes the payments.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Car suddenly stops running while just driving forward.ignition key remains in "on"position, but all accessory/warning lights come on.this has happened 3 times, the first while car had 950 miles on it in october 1012. Car was taken to dealership service department.when i received it back i was told that they had "changed the software".the second time the car ceased running (5,414 miles) while being driven forward, i had it towed to the dealership and received it back with the information that they could not find anything wrong with it.i stopped driving the vehicle except for occasionally driving it around my quiet neighborhood to keep the battery charged up.on september 26, 2015, i decided to drive the car to a nearby target (approx. 1.5 miles from my home).the car drove there perfectly but ceased running as i drove towards home.again i had the car towed to the service department at fiat/alfa romeo of austin.today fiat customer service called me and said the service facility was not able to find anything wrong with the car and was returning the car to me again without diagnosis or repair of the problem. My case number with fiat customer service is: 278-579-22.all three of these very frightening sudden stalls occurred on city streets.there is no unusual noise or warning, the car just suddenly stops running.i was driving straight ahead each time.the engine was not hot or were there any unusual odors or sounds.i turned on my emergency flashers, turned the ignition key to the "off" position, put the shift lever in "park" and the car immediately started again and ran without further difficulty.i was very, very lucky that i was not hit from behind as the last two incidents were in busy traffic areas.i will not drive this vehicle again.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving various speeds, the contact smelled carbon monoxide inside the vehicle. While driving low speeds, the vehicle stalled, but was able to be restarted. The failures occurred intermittently. Also, the engine and battery warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the clutch was repaired; however, the failures recurred. An unknown local dealer diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the transmission needed to be repaired. The transmission had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 88,000. The vin was not available.
Engine light when on with 10 k milesin my engine only 1/4 oil left, the dealer performece the oil change3 weeks latter engine light on again. Only 1/4 oil inside, they did the (cot) consumcion oil test every 500 miles for 4 times. Answer from the manufacture "every 1 k miles i have to add 1/4 oil" now i have to check it every 1 k... Not include in the guarante.if the manueal saysoil change every 8 k miles how is posible 1/4 every 1 k miles i think they just clean their hands...
We've replaced the shifter cable on the fiat twice on our own. Recently, fiat replaced it under recall no. 19v817000.fiat's replacement cable/bushing lasted three shifts.shifted into drive to leave the dealership. Shifted into park at home.shifted into drive on next use and the cable was detached. Fiat's solution is not an improvement. Comparing the replacement bushing with the old bushing, there isn't any difference that will prevent this issue. This is a dangerous issue. The first time it occurred we were stuck in the middle of the street from reversing out of a parking sport and the cable bushing failing when we went to put it in drive. The repaid under 19v817000 is not a corrective repair.
Took car in for service with 29,600 miles on it. Was told it needed new valve cover gasket, both cv boots replaced, and both transmission output seals replaced. I had already replaced one transmission output seal at 22,000 miles. Total cost $900 all out of warranty. I've already filed a complaint about having to replace the clutch. Seems there are a lot of issues with this car.
Concerns that vehicle s34 recall has never been complete vehicle is now for sale at a car dealership no paper trail on the recall.
I had been smelling burning oil from my car while parked for a period of months after my latest oil change at the dealership.i did not see any dripping on the ground and assumed it was a sloppy oil change with residual oil burning away in the engine bay.during a normal oil change around 37,000 miles the dealer informed me the rear main seal on my fiat 500 went out and that the repairs would be upwards of $1,000.i researched online and found out many fiat 500s manufactured from 2012 had this issue occur at very low miles.the dealer informed me my 4 year/50,000 mile warranty had run out in june 2016 and that i must pay the costs.i ended up paying over $1,100.
Car sometimes cuts off while driving with no warning. All guages spike, car cuts off. I pull over and it starts back up. No codes were stored. This is very dangerous. Can't find the problem.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician informed that the vehicle needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred with an abnormal sound emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,488. ....updated 07/05/16 the consumer stated she took the vehicle to the dealer, after receiving a recall notice regarding the transmission. However, the dealer informed her, the back up device was not working. The consumer also stated there was an issue with the suspension. It felt as though the vehicle was going to turn over. Updated 07/21/16.
Engine light and transmition light keeps coming on along with other dash lights. My car also randomly died, everything would cut on but my car wouldn't turn over. We placed a new battery in it and the fiat did the same thing so we put the old one back on and tried to jump start it, the car acted like it was going to turn over but never did. I took my fiat to a fiat dealership to be fixed they said it was the battery the whole time but the computer chiped was fried. The problem is the fiat has only been back a week and occasionally the engine light and transmition and a couple more lights are still comming on. I haven't even had the car a year and i am already having major problems.
Oil presure light comes on saying stop turn engine off low iol pressure after i drive it for about 10 mins i guess after it get hot. Then chexk engine liggt comes with it. Other people has and are going threw the same thing with 2012 fiat 509 sports. Its all over the you tube why is this happing. I replace oil presure sensor and changed my oil same thing it didnt change anything asking for a recall on the oil pum or what is causing this. Plus it makea a sound after drivingat the same time it shows up whilepushing gas pedal
The vehicle "pops" out of 5th gear at highway speeds of 60mph or higher.the tachometer goes into the red and the car slows down in traffic or on a hill until placed into gear again.
I was driving to work on dallas north tollway cruising at normal highway speed. I was in 5th gear in the far left lane driving at consistent speed. I heard a pop sound and then a sound as if something were dragging. It was as if i had run over a block of styrofoam in a shopping cart. Immediately my car lost power followed by messages on the hud: low oil pressure; no oil pressure; see handbook. I immediately let my foot off the pedals and cruised to the shoulder. I saw oil or some other fluid had covered the rear of my car and was covering the ground underneath. The fluid had a reddish tinge to it. A piece of metal appeared to be hanging from underneath the car. Oil was everywhere. [xxx], the general manager of fiat of mckinney, told me that the engine needed to be replaced but that it would not be covered by the warranty because the maximum engine "over-rev" reached a value of 7300 a total of 26 times. Fiat vehicles are equipped with engine safety features which limit rpm to acceptable values. I have never reached that rpm in that vehicle. I received a copy of the fiat 500 diagnostics captured using a witech and it shows 3 pieces of data: total over rev counter = 26, max engine over rev rpm = 7320, total time exceeding max engine rpm 0.0 seconds. There are no times associated with the overrev instances so that one could deduce that an overrev caused the engine failure. If it says that the total time over max engine rpm is 0.0 seconds, how is this possible if it indicated 26 times? since this is valued in total seconds, if the times added up to 0.0444 - which would be the maximum value possible before rounding up to 0.1, that means each of the 26 over rev instances would have lasted 0.0017 seconds. Even if going at 7320 rpm, the fiat 500 engine can only go 12.44 revolutions in 0.0017 seconds. There is no way that it could be measured this accurately.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the cam shaft failed and needed to be replaced. In addition, piston number one was not compressing. The technician removed the valve cover and noticed that the relief of the elevate stick, where piston number one was located, fractured the exhaust valve. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,372.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving various speeds with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate without warning. The contact also stated that a burning plastic odor emitted from the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to start. The contact mentioned that the failures recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch pedal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v302000 (power train); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
My 2012 fiat is having starter issues. Sometimes the engine just cuts off. I took the car in and they told me that all 2012 fiats recently serviced, are having this issue. There is no fix until chrysler creates a code for the system. I asked how long has this been going on and he said 3 months now. So basically i have to deal with my car barley starting and possibily cutting off and there is no solution. This could be dangerous and may lead to other damages. Something needs to be done.
The car got stuck with mud under the car. When we go it pulled out and took it to the dealer would have cost us 3000 to have it fixed. That way to much and they told there was problem with the engine now. They wouldn't work a deal onit. When driving home we noticed thry left a plate from under the sterling will and had rip the black peace that wrapes oround it.we to it to a tramission place in town where they fixed the transmissin , the car drive like a mess i just afraid to go lomg distance.
I bought the car 2 years ago and driven it without any issues until a few months ago when the low oil pressure light showed. Being in traffic and in the rain, i did drive my car home. I took it to a local mechanic the next day who changed the low oil pressure sensor and changed the oil and it looked like the problem went away. But after a few weeks it appeared again. I tried to research the problem on the net and most posts i found indicated that the entire engine needs to be replaced. The car has 65000 miles, seems like an unfair problem to have for such a young engine. The problem occurrsonly at idle. Since i drive the car very little and in no traffic i decided to continue driving it and look out for the light and turn off the engine when it comes on. But one day my car did not start so i towed it to my mechanic which found the starter had some corrodedbolts (?) which he cleaned and the car runs fine now. But he warned me that the oil pressure problem is only going to get worse and that at some point i will have to replace the engine. I tried to figure out why this problem occurred in the first place by trying to find any sensible information on the internet. It seems like there is quite a few owners out there that have the same problem, but did not find any answers on what is the cause of it. I found this information on a recall regarding the starter:csn n15 starter motor mounting bolts2012 (ff) fiat 500the starter motor mounting bolts on about 3k of vehicles may not ground the starter motor to the transaxle case properly. This could cause the electrical energy from the starter motor during cranking to take an alternate path to ground across the engine crankshaft bearings.my car is not recalled for this problem.but is it still possible that my car was affected by the same problem? and if yes, who is responsible for the damages that result form it?
This occurred about 6 times already. When making a left or right turn the vehicle shuts off and coasts until you stop to shut it off and turn back on. The battery and oil pressure lights come on during the coasting. Came very close to being hit twice due to this problem, but the dealer say they haven't heard anything like this before.
I have recently taken care in for engine light it was, then both head lights went out again. Theyve done this going down the road at night. Now transmission and engine light came on. Was told could be torque converter clutch was stored default and cleared may come bk, or tcm or torque converter or solenoid. I am still paying for this car had little over a year now. 131,000 mile. Ive put only 42k on it. Others complain same parts/issues. This needs to be a recall issue now. I am a traveling nurse, i have to have a car to take care of my patients please. Now it sits waits go to cary nc 11/29. Diag cost me 141.00 to see ? is now. Just had sparks/wires replaced two weeks ago. Please help
I car warning lights started coming on and staying on all the time. I took the car in for an oil change and was advised i needed a new motor. The car is constantly stalling, cutting off all the time, bearly restarting and only able to drive less than 25 mph. This is the problem every time i start it up.
Car was stalling and shutting off.had my daughter in the car.couldn't start the car after 3 attempts.then after waiting a good 3 minutes started the car and revved the engine at 4000 rpm and everything seemed back to normal.dealer hasn't been able to duplicate.
I purchased vehicle certified used 20 jan 2013. The first day of driving the vehicle at highway speeds, i noticed a strong burning smell inside the cabin. Vehicle has been taken back to the dealership 8 times and the service department cannot resolve the issue. I have opened a case with chrysler/ fiat resolution team. The customer service is horrible!they informed me that they were sending an engineer to service the car. An engineer was suppose to service the vehicle this week and they never showed up. The service rep at the dealership recalled the previous owner had the same issue before trading it in. That info was not disclosed to me before purchasing. Dealership will not take the car back or replace it, headquarters intervention is not proactive. The vehicle is not safe to drive.
The steering column, down by the floor sucked my floor mat up under my accelerator and brake pedal. I could not brake, or turn the steeringwheel....updated 06/28/13
Third high center brake like wires keep breaking. They run along roof to trunk lid and the opening of the trunk lid causes this.
The rear license plate lights have failed. The led bulbs are functional, but the wiring harness providing power to the lights has failed due poor routing of the harness resulting in broken wires and electrical shorts to the system. Other similar make and models of this car have suffered the same problem. The service department considerers this normal wear and tear. I consider this a manufacture defect. If this problem affected the headlights, this could be a major safety issue.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the check rear driver light warning light was illuminated. The contact stated the left license plate bulb was not illuminating. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer arrigo fiat west palm beach (6500 okeechobee blvd, west palm beach, fl 33411, (561) 618-3160) where it was diagnosed with needing the rear lights assembly to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.the consumer stated the repair would cost $475 at the dealer. The consumer purchased the license plate bulbs and personally installed the bulbs.
The wiring harness gets crimped when it goes from the main body of the car into the hatch creating shorts and malfaction of electric components. As, does the rear wiper hose. Which leaks and empties into the wiring harness. This happens everywhere, at all times.
On three separate occasions, while driving at highway speeds at night, i have had the headlights fail!suddenly just go dark!each time, it happened when i operated a window switch. The outage each time was short, the headlights would come back on within seconds [though it seemed longer].the service guys at the dealership haven't been able to solve it, no idea why it happened.
The car was purchased on april 15, 2016.since then, i have had to take the car in for service several times.the first issue was a problem with the brake light.the second issue was that the gears would not move and i had to use a screw driver to change the car from park to drive and vice versa, drive to reverse and vice versa, etc... The third issue was that the car rolled backwards. The recent issue was for a recall on the powertrain control. In addition, the car while driving on the freeway and local streets drifts to the right side. As a result of the drifting, i have had almostthree car accidents in the past month.the service representativeinformed me that the drifting is a result of the roads on the freeway and locally and not an issue with the car. I no longer feel safe drive to this car and fear getting into a major accident.today i contacted the fiat owner assistance to file a complaint and request that the issue be addressed.their response was that the car was safe as per the service reports and that i should get a wheel alignment at my expense.this recommendation was made by a corporate representative and not a mechanic. I am filing this complaint in hopes that the issue be addressed and that i am able to return the fiat for another vehicle that is safe and meet the standard of quality fiat is known for.
The rear high brake light wiring on the convertible wears and breaks in the driver's side c pillar due to use of the convertible top rendering the brake light non-operative. This seems to be a common problem with the fiat 500 convertible.

Intermittent exterior marker light failure. Front passenger marker light and rear driver's side brake light fail to operate on occasion. The light sensor in the gauge cluster alerts to failure. When later investigating, all lights appear to function properly.
I took my car for inspection. Dealer informed me that license plate light failed. Bulb could not be replaced. I had to replace whole tailgate assembly for $500 just for the new bulb. New assembly they put in now has a replaceable bulb.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. When the ignition was turned to the on position, half of the instrument panel failed to illuminate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. When the ignition was turned to the on position, the engine revved but the vehicle failed to start. The ignition had to be turned to the off position and back on in order for the vehicle to start. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the started idle gear failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge failed to register the fuel range. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel gauge failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15. ....updated 08/29/16

Safety recall is still not complete! clutch safety swicth
When trying to pump gas in car, it would take about 10 mins to pump one gallon and it would shut off constantly.in other words when squeezing the pump, it would put a few drops and cut off and it would continuously do this.the problems was the roller over shut off valve was stuck and the solution was to get a whole new tank.in order to keep expenses down and because this was not recalled, we had our mechanic move the "ball" and this resolved the issue until it gets stuck again.the cost was approximately $150
The vehicle's fuel tank is no longer able to accept fuel properly from any gas station due to a defect in the fuel tank's rollover protection valve.after a weeks worth of testing the dealership advised me that the correct course of action is to replace the whole fuel tank as the part is integral to the tank.fiat admits that there is a fault with the tank and therefore it should be a recall due to faulty design rather than a consumer burden to repair and replace.i have read that this is a common issue amongst the 2012-2013 year models with multiple incidents of owners having to replace the fuel tank for the problem to only re-occur again in a short period of time. The vehicle is stationary when this happens with the motor shut off and fuel cap open to accept fuel. Estimated cost of repair is $2,000 which is about 1/3 of vehicles cost due to depreciation.

The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that it would take 20 minutes to fill the fuel tank and fuel spilled out. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Fiat of melbourne (300 e nasa blvd, melbourne, fl 32901, (321) 727-7711) informed the contact that the fuel tank, fuel tank pump, and canister needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,359. *dt
When filling up with gas - pump clicks off every few seconds.takes a long time to fill tank at a very low rate of flow. Makes it easy to overflow!my mechanic says something is faulty with the gas tank.
Refueling is difficult, gas pump shuts off every few seconds.i've tried many different pumps at many different gas stations.i read online that fiat recognizes a problem with the fuel rollover valve, but the entire gas tank must be replaced to replace the valve.this is a design problem that causes a safety issue.
At about 33,000 miles the fuel rollover valve failed making it difficult to pump fuel into my tank and at times causing fuel to spill from the filler tube. The valve is not replaceable so the entire fuel tank was replaced under warranty. About 3,200 miles later the rollover valve failed again. Even though the tank only had a few thousand miles on it fiat/chrysler refused to warranty the replacement tank due to the car itself being out of new car warranty by a few months. I refused replacement of the second tank at my expense. There are a lot of details, discussions, and a promise broken by fiat/chrysler that are missing here because of available characters to type. Simply put though, fiat admits having a rollover valve problem. My research shows that many owners experiencing the problem believe it is caused by the fuel pump nozzle itself so they have not complained to fiat. One of the 3 dealers i spoke with mentioned they are having to replace tanks because of the rollover valve that "sticks". Upon checking the valve myself i saw no evidence of sticking yet something was blocking fuel from coming in. Is it so sensitively calibrated that one can't actually tell if it works without special measuring tools? how does fiat service test it? if it is sticking closed, can it stick open rendering the rollover safety completely ineffective? regardless, this valve was designed not to fail, otherwise it would require an inexpensive replaceable part rather than a $800.00 fuel tank replacement. I also contend, that, for it to cease to operate correctly after just a few thousand miles (do the math) a good indication is that it was defective when installed. But fiat refuses to bear any responsibility. Finally, this is not a new problem with chrysler. I believe extended lifetime warranties exist for ram trucks and other dodge vehicles from about 2003 to 2007 for a similar part.
The contact owns a 2012 chrysler fiat 500. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge would independently move to the full mark and the vehicle would suddenly stall. The vehicle had to be placed in neutral in order to get it to restart. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but the dealer could not determine what caused the failure. The dealer stated they would need to contact the manufacturer. The vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages were 8,000.
When putting fuel in tank, i could only put about one gallon and it started bubbling out of tank.fuel rollover valve is problem and has to be replaced by replacing entire fuel tank.this is a safety issue and should be recalled and covered on the 2012 fiat 500 pop
When stopped at a fuel filling station the car would not take in any fuel from the gas station pump as usual. It reacts like the tank is full but it is not. A very small steady flow of fuel will flow and fill when the nozzle is engaged as such. The dangerous problem is that the gas pump 'automatic stop' does not engage and fuel runs out of the filler area and does not stop until you manually pull out the nozzle. The fiat dealer says it could be the rollover valve and they have seen it happen before. They want to charge for service/inspection, then repairs. Some dealers charge for a new fuel tank @ $1200-1600 and it still happens. Online chats regarding fiat 500 also describe this rollover valve problem. My car has 48,000 miles and is a 2012.
I was driving home on a road flat/straight road with a 50 mph speed limit.i was shifting my gears (manual) as i noticed that the light ahead was turning from red to green.i could not get the gear to grasp 3rd. Moreover, the when i tried pressing the brake, it did not feel like it normally does.it was much more difficult to push the brake.i was really scared and almost had an accident.i was somehow able to coax my car to the side of the road.i turned the car off, and turned it back on.i fully pushed the clutch in with my left foot, but was unable to moved the gear shift from neutral into any of the gears (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or reverse).i turned the car off again, at this point i took my foot off the clutch and was able to freely more the gear shift into any of the gears.something is tremendously wrong with this car.if this had happened to me on the highway i could have been seriously injured.the dealer has said that the clutch, bearings, and pressure plate needs to be replaced.my concern is that this may happen again to me if the dealer replaces the bad parts with new ('potentially defective') parts. A recall needs to be issued.i do not want this to happen to again to me or someone else.
Gas pump constantly kicks off while pumping gas. Basically impossible to fill car up with gas. Have to constantly squeeze little bursts of gas in a time between gas pumping kicking off. Checking online for options to resolve issues results in seeing the issue occur in many different fiats from this year.
On03/07/2017i went to jiffy lube #3318 sre corporation 284 e state road 73 saratoga springs ut 84045 to have an emissons test performed work order #55 invoice# 96902 mileage 187903 station # u575 inspector# uet003081 i was told that my fiatdid not pass emissions the funny thing isi went to the exact same place on 10/31/2015 work order 82 invoice number 222206608 at 3:59pm at that time the inspector # was uet002450 station u575(just thought i would point that out) also the person doing the inspection said he had to put it in as california and the other 50 states instead of putting fed only and the other 49 statesthe inspector said my car was made in california and i know thats not true my car was made in toluca mexicowell now i'mtold i must go to ken garff fiat to complete a drive cycle i refuse to take my car to ken garff fiat beside the recall has not been complete in order to complete a drive cycle! so now i am unable to pass emissons and will be unable to renew my vehilce for january of 2019 i have already renewed until january of 2018.
When adding fuel to the car, the pump constantly shuts off as if the tank is full. This is not a nozzle problem as i have taken the car to over 15 different stations..it takes 10 - 15 minutes to re-fuel a 10 gallon tank.the purge valve was replaced. The mechanic says the car needs a new tank at $1,000 usd.the tank is not available, it is on back order, with no delivery date available.
Suddenly one day i was no longer able to pump gas into my vehicle. Whenever i try to fill up my gas tank gas were just back up, no matter how empty my tank was.i took my vehicle to my dealership, and a stated that there was a valve at the top of my gas at the top of my fuel tank that is preventing the gas from draining into the tank. Nothing that i did or could have done caused this issue to break. And when i inquired about replacing the valve they stated that i would have to replace the entire fuel tank system, but the part was on back order for 1 to 2 months because they were sold out.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the passenger's side door unlatched and became ajar without warning. The contact pulled over and securely locked the door after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to nyle maxwell fiat (13049 research blvd, austin, tx 78750 (512) 228-3428) where it was diagnosed and determined that the door latch needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,700.
First of all while driving around town my clutch started feeling loose, 2 days later changing gears getting harder. I was told by a shop that i need to replace clutch assembly, clutch, & clutch plate. I thought this was all taken care of witb the recall?
We recently went in for a recall to the shift mechanism.upon completion, the dealer failed to secure the ground wire back to the battery.after a few short trips, the loose connection caused the alternator to fail.the dealer will not take ownership of this and wants $930 for the repair.customer service believes this is simply an old car and will not support it either.ultimately this will cause us to think twice before acting on the next recall notice.
Manual transmission becomes inoperative without warning due to problem addressed in recall 16v302000. I am receiving absolutely no response from fiat other then to say the parts to fix the problem are unavailable. I was told that in june and it is now mid-august with no further update from fiat despite assurance that they would provide one. This recall if left to the indifferent attitude displayed by chrysler- fiat is going to cause a fatal accident. My vehicle became completely disabled with absolutely no warning but fortunately i had just started the car to leave and was not going 60 mph in heavy traffic. I was lucky.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500 abarth. On several occasions, while the brake pedal was depressed, the gear shifter was placed in reverse and the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate in reverse. On multiple occasions, the gear shifter failed to operate. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the shifter cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called alfa romeo fiat of wichita (7525 e kellogg dr, wichita, ks 67207 (316) 618-2191) where the dealer confirmed that there was no current warranty. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,870.
I was driving on the highway and attempted to downshift while approaching an exit. My clutch became stiff and not responsive. I was unable to depress the clutch to change gears. While struggling to maintain control of the vehicle, i was able to get the vehicle out of gear and coast to the side of highway at the base of the exit ramp. I turned the car off to calm down, since i luckily avoided any major accident. A police car drove by and stopped to ask me if i was ok and i said i was fine. I was unable to get my car into gear after that and had to have the car towed to a garage. The mechanic at the garage said the clutch had failed. A quick check showed that this make and model were subject to an upcoming recall, so i had the car towed from the garage to a fiat dealer for repair. The dealer told me that the clutch diaphragm spring failed and damaged the clutch. Repair bills attached. Repeated attempts to get a clear answer on the scope of the recall were unsuccessful.
I was driving home from work on big tree road in south daytona florida as i approached my neighborhood i attempted to shift gears and was not able to engage or disengage the clutch nor could i shift the gears. I lost control of the vehicle so i braked and managed to drift in neutral to my driveway at my home.
While in motion (1st gear) and about to shift into second the clutch became completely frozen and the shift lever was unable to move gears. This was while in traffic. The vehicle had to be shut down in order for the shifter to be put into neutral. The vehicle has 60,000 miles on it. No previous clutch issues were apparent.the service advisor told us it was a failure of the clutch pressure plate and consequently the slave cylinder. We were told that the clutch was not worn beyond normal wear and tear for the mileage so this was not caused by user error but defective pressure plate. We were told that because the transmission was out we might as well replace the clutch but it was not required. Total repair cost was $1030.00 including the pressure plate, slave cylinder, clutch and labor. This issue has occurred on numerous 2012 fiat 500's based upon other owners. This is a severe safety hazard from a defective part. The new part has a new part number but i was told this has no relation to pressure plate updates even though newer 500's don't seem to have the issue. Also noticed was the cars clutch feels completely different than it did upon purchase of the vehicle in 2012 through prior to the repair. Now the clutch pedal exhibits a completely loose feeling without tension as it did the past 4 years.

2012 fiat pop with 5 speed manual transmission. Manual transmission may leak oil from case seam and at half shaft seals. Fiat dealership replaced first transmission after 600 miles. Leaking again at 30,000 miles. Oil is slung from inner cv joint boots into engine compartment and onto ground. This could create hazards of fire from hot exhaust, loss of traction from oil on road surface. Fiat refuses to deal with problem after second round and dealership fumbling repair. Still have leaks, compromised transmission ...unsafe car.
On friday, december 6, 2019 my 2012 fiat 500 began to emit a strong odor.i thought the car would catch on fire.the car also made a loud, screeching and grinding noise.when i arrived safely to my destination, a few minutes away, i stopped and turned off the car.i had to cancel a hair appointment because i didn't feel comfortable driving the distance in the vehicle.on monday, december 9, 2019 i took my car into a fiat chrysler dodge ram jeep dealership for an oil change and free basic inspection.i was told by the dealership that they also heard the noise coming from the clutch area but needed to perform an official diagnostic.i didn't have the money at the time so i waited until january 2, 2020 to have the diagnostic performed.during the month of december and while my car was in the shop i took lyft rideshare for transportation as i did not feel safe driving the car.the car stayed in the shop over the weekend and i was able to pick it up on monday, january 6, 2020.the issue was related to a recall fca # s34, nhtsa# 16v-302 that happened a couple years before.it was supposed to be resolved for this vehicle but i was having similar and worse problems, which are due to the previous faulty car part.the fiat has only $113k miles on it.i have owned manual transmission vehicles previously and never had this issue.i previously owned a honda civic (gained over 200k miles) and a chevy aveo and neither car had this issue.i believe this is a serious safety hazard and myself and my daughter could have been seriously injured had i continued to drive this vehicle.the clutch could have stopped all together and we could have hit another vehicle or been seriously injured on the interstate or street traffic.even with the repairs i am no longer confident in the safety of this vehicle.it should be declared a lemon.
Clutch started going bad in 500 sport so i took it to the dealer due to the recall s34. (clutch makes a whining noise and causes abnormal vibrations when trying to engage gears. Still makes whining sound when engaged with gear) fca made no effort to cover repairs or even look into exactly what was wrong with the clutch. All i was told was i needed a new clutch kit and throw out bearing. They said they couldn't do anything since there is no permanent remedy yet despite that my clutch is going bad now. I was offered no alternative vehicle or estimate on when parts would be available yet fca seemed fine with letting me drive it despite the recall stating that the bad parts could "result in the inability to disengage the clutch..." and that could "cause a crash without warning". The recall notices went out in june, it's not august, and the owner's forums are saying parts might not be available until september but i can't safely drive my car now.
The pressured plate fail at 34769 k, ( was over 3 years warranty) i have to pay for a town company to move it to my mechanic. Also y havea reamplace and cost me $ 1742.90

Only having 25,000 miles on car, driving down the interstate and had to slow down for standing traffic. I applied my clutch and the clutch pedal got stuck to the floor and did not want to return to the top. It has done it multiple times since then. Fca has a recall on this but does not include the abarth version of the 500. Just barely out of my warranty and this is a known problem that fca is just ignoring.
Rear main seal oil leaks.car only has 26,000 miles on it and has only been driven around town.dealer claims this is "normal wear and tear" and is denying service under 100,000 mile power train warranty terms.

My 2012 fiat 500 with 36,298 miles on od had clutch failure. I received s34 recall from fiat and had recall work complete. I was told that the recalled part could cause wear on clutch plate and that the recall was correcting the issue.three weeks later, i was at a stop light and the clutch felt funny and transmission was stuck in first gear. Car was towed to dealer and diagnostic states that bearing-clutch release and disc & pressure plate need replacement. I was told that the recall had no bearing on the clutch failure..."it's normal wear and tear like brake pads and tires." i have spoken with my service rep and fiat customer service. I have repeatedly been told the failure is a "wear and tear issue". I have repeatedly stated that i understand this, but the recalled part was said by both the service provider and fiat, to cause wear on component (wear and tear) parts of the clutch. I maintain that the faulty part has accelerated wear and tear on the clutch assembly and that the replacement of the clutch should be covered by fiat. Fiat customer service states they are investigating my claim but i have not heard back from them. At this time, i am having to pay for the $1200 repair which seems to have been caused by accelerated wear and tear due to a defective, recalled part. Please advise.

Clutch cover diaphragm spring may fatigue &/or fracture, resulting in an inability to disengage the clutch, shift gear, and potential loss of power that could result in a crash. This recall just came in the mail and is pretty serious. I am traveling for the holidays and my service station is unable to service my vehicle for over a month. For something this serious, that is an unacceptable time frame.
The car has two recalls for power train. In the past year and a half of owning the fiat, the carā€™s power train has been stuck in park 3 times. The shift is unable to move out of park without being forced out manually. When the car is driven, it has to be manually removed from park to move and the dashboard goes blank. The car doesnā€™t show speed or gas amount. This is dangerous and can lead to crashes resulting in death. It is emotionally, mentally and financially exhausting having to do a $600+ repair every so often because the power train becomes damaged. This issue has caused me to lose lots of sleep and money since my car is my main source of transportation during this tough time. It is unreliable to its driver and the fiat dealership has deemed it as okay to drive when it clearly is a safety hazard for drivers and pedestrians.
I have a recall--clutch cover diaphragm spring may fatigue/fracture--no fix! i drive 560 miles per week--this could be dangerous.
Car started sounding bad and one night the clutch got stuck so i took it to the mechanic who informed me there is a safety recall on the clutch. Dealership is an hour away and wouldn't cover towing "unless they were sure it was a recall issue" so either i could pay for towing (i don't have money for that) or drive it in. No mention that driving it could cause additional damage not covered. So i drove it in with the bad clutch. Took it to the dealership then and they agreed to cover the replacement of the clutch. When they started repairs, they noticed damage to the fork shaft and transmission, which would not be covered under the recall. $2400. I googled the recall to find out details and the recall exists because they know the clutch problem causes damage to the transmission. So i really don't understand why they won't cover it once the damage has been done.
Dealer will not confirm a service appointment for sa recall number16v-302, manufacturer recall numbers34 which was issued back in may of 2016. I advised tonkin fiat that i am aware this is a safety related recall which poses a crash risk. Dealer did not respond until i had submitted three requests for service. Then, once they did respond, they refused to schedule a service appointment. Please help.

Clutch failure in traffic after leaving a stop light.no prior warning/signs that the clutch would fail (ie. No slipping).car started in first just fine, went to shift into second and the clutch would not disengage.the pedal was completely stiff and was unable to be pressed all the way to the floor.i then drifted to the side of the road where i was able to get the car to stop, thankfully i was not going at a higher speed otherwise this problem could have potentially caused a wreck.at this point in time i tried to shift my car into gear (with the car off), but the clutch wouldn't even allow any gears to engage. I had the car towed to my home, and then fiat had the car towed to the nearest dealer of my choice (i still had to pay for the fiat towing).i am currently pending a call from the dealership to diagnose + fix my car, which will most likely have to be payed out of pocket.this is most likely a manufacturer defect, as has been stated in numerous other clutch failure reports for this year's make.
Bought this vehicle on oct 19th 2019while driving the transmission skipped several times this is a 2012500 pop model fiat automatic. .afraid to drive fast fear of transmission failure ,specially noticable when going up a grade and whendepressing fuel pedal to pass .

The fiat had the recommended recall fix for maual transmission performed in 2017. While driving on a city street, the clutch would not disengage properly. Gears could only be changed with the car completely stopped and the engine off. Repair identified the problem "pressure plate fingers have failed because of s34 recall. This ruined the clutch plate causing shifitng issues."
Vehicle clutch failed to disengage. Dealer advised customer (me) parts not under warranty and advised fiat that clutch is worn out. Dealer completed the repair; customer paid $940 for repair.dealer invoice notes: "clutch pressure plate spring damage and distorted" - damaged component is not a wear-and-tear component of the clutch assembly, and has suffered catastrophic failure, not a progressive wear.fiat refuses to review and re-evaluate the case.
Fiat 500 recall. Fiat recalled my vehicle in june of 2016 for a defect in the manual transmission that "could cause a crash." it is august of 2016 and fiat has no date for when the parts will be available, nor are they willing to advise how long it might be. I find this unacceptable to be driving a car that could crash "without warning" yet no plan is in place to remedy the situation.please investigate what is taking so long.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that the clutch failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the clutch was burned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. As i was pulling into the driveway on 09-08-2017, i pushed in the clutch to get ready to stop.i felt the car continue pushing forward despite having the clutch pedal in and applying the brakes. The transmission would not come out of gear.the car died as i applied more force to the brakes, resulting in the car stopping several feet further than my intended parking spot.this is a sudden unexpected failure of the clutch. I believe this failure is related to nhtsa campaign 16v302000 recall. "the clutch diaphragm spring may fracture and fail, causing inability to switch gears."recall s34 which entails installing a clutch pedal limiter and clutch pedal switch was performed on this vehicle on jan-26-2017 at the corwin fiat dealership in springfield mo at 61202 miles.yesterday 09-08-2017 with 70644 miles the clutch failed suddenly without warning.i have not taken it to a garage yet for diagnosis.
I was at a busy intersection about to make a left hand turn when i suddenly was unable to depress the clutch completely or shift into gear.it turned out the clutch had completely given out with no warning - no slipping, smell of burning clutch, no check engine light, nothing.i've driven stick my whole life and never run through a clutch in 28,000 miles!nor have i had the experience of a clutch going out without warning - it has always started to slip in advance of needing replaced.the police had to stop traffic and push me to safety as the car would not drive at all.i don't know what i would have done if the police had not come so quickly as i was in an area with a lot of traffic and several people nearly hit me in the short time i was waiting.due to the out of the blue nature of this clutch failure, i thought it was worth reporting as a safety issue.had i been on a freeway, the situation could have been much worse.

Last night, while pulling onto the highway, my clutch locked up. My clutch has never shown any sign of wear/tear (no grinding, no slipping, no burning, etc.) and out of nowhere, it clamped shut. Thankfully, there was not much traffic and i pulled over without the hazard of hitting/being hit by another car. I got the car towed to fiat of orange park, and had to wait until they opened today to get a call from them. I was so confused by what could have caused my clutch to do that, last night i searched online and found fiat-owner forums of other people describing the exact same incident happening to them (one guy was in atlanta traffic and almost crashed, another guy was in nyc about to cross the manhattan bridge and almost got into a wreck). They all had, like myself, fiat's with low mileage. Some had 22k miles, some 28kmiles, some 50k, some 60k; hence adding to the bizarre nature of this incident. All incidents resulted in bent pressure plates as well as miscellaneous damage to clutch parts. Fiat of orange park called me today and told me that the damage is my fault, as a result of wear/tear. Despite me explaining to them that this has been an issue with other fiat-owners, they continued to say that i am responsible for the damage. Despite all of the evidence pointing towards a mechanical malfunction, they said i am responsible for repairing the clutch. This seems to be a manufacturer defect and i would like to report this in hope that there might be action taken by you, nhtsa, to help the victims of this defect from 1) potential hazard as a result of future incidents 2) paying the large amount for repairing the damage. Thank you for your consideration.

I have had trouble shifting my car into gear. I received a recall notice on my trans-axle clutch pedal but when i tried to schedule an appointment for it to be fixed, all the fiat dealers in my area have said that they are unable to fix the problem until the last week of february or early march. I would like a rental car until my car has been fixed as it is a safety concern that i am driving my car with this recall for several more weeks.

Stopped at traffic ligh put car in netural when tried switch into gear could not had to push car off road in high trafic are.on line recall states due to fracture in diaphragm causing inability to switch gears
Recall s34/nhtsa 16v-302 was issued in june but now we are in october and the local fiat dealer (frontier dodge chrysler jeep in lubbock, texas) has not yetrepaired the defect.
57,560 mileage, vehicle wont shift again, manual trasnmision in on my garage
I pulled into a parking lot, got on the brakes, put the car in park however the car was registering in reverse. Before i knew it, the car was going backwards and i was moving toward passing traffic behind me. I cut the car off to stop it from going into traffic. The cars gearbox would not shift out of park. I attempted to start the car and try and move the gears but the car would not start. Needless to say i was stranded. I called a tow truck and was advised that is a known issue with fiat but the dealership acts as if there isnt a recall around this??? my car is an automatic but this should not be happening.
There has been an open recall for a clutch problem since june. Almost 5 months later and fiat has no update on the parts.
My fiat 500 manual tranmission would not go into gear when i was on the highwaythere is a problem with clutch diaphragm spring causeingthe car not to shift the recall wasto replace the clutch pedal over travel i told the fiat dealer they should check the clutch first to see if there was any damage now my clutch went the car gives you no sign when its going to fail very dangerous car was in motion when in happend
2012 fiat 500 clutch went out as we were nearing railroad tracks.we could not get auto into any gear and had to coast over the tracks and into our neighborhood. We had it towed to the dealer for service.they stated it was a worn clutch even though we had less than 30,000 miles.we asked them to investigate if it were faulty parts.they stated ours was the only known case.we found many other cases on the internet.we could have hurt or killed, especially if it had happened while we were in the freeway fast lane.fiat paid for our parts, and we paid for the labor.they eventually agreed to reimburse us for the labor "as a gesture of goodwill".we are waiting for the check.we are still concerned about the safety of these parts in other cars, and about the safety of our replaced parts.
The oil pressure sensor warning light would randomly go on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealership three times to repair the problem. On the third time, the dealership said that it was due to a damaged short block and that it would need to be replaced. This was in october 2014 and the mileage was 52,500 so my car was no longer under warranty. The dealer quoted approximately $5000 for the repair. Shouldn't the warranty cover the repair because the problem began at 49,800 miles? the fiat dealership does not agree.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v817000 (power train) and the vehicle was repaired at i.g. Burton chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat (605 bay rd, milford, de 19963). The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle at the gas station, the vehicle was started and while attempting to shift out of park, the shifter cable detached. The contact stated her husband reattached the cable and the vehicle was driven back to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to an authorized dealer to have the vehicle diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
The clutch gave out in rush hour traffic as i was downshifting to enter a traffic circle.the clutch pedal became stiff and i was able to get the car into neutral, but could not put the car back in gear, or depress the clutch pedal fully. According to the mechanic, the pressure plate cracked due to it being manufactured with low-quality metal.the car has only 43,000 miles on it.
While exiting highway, tried to take vehicle out of gear to down shift on deceleration. And would not come out of gear. Moved over to side of road attempting to get vehicle out of gear and would not. Vehicle shut down at stop. While key is off, it was able to shift into all gear slots, but when turning back on vehicle would not go into or come out of gear.
While driving the vehicle, and a need to shift occurs, the clutch will lockup, completely frozen, making it impossible no matter how hard you push, to depress the pedal making it impossible to shift gear. This happens every 20,000 miles and each time, dealer service dept says it's a "bent pressure plate".but fiat classifies this a "wear & tear" item and cannot help. Dealer service wants $2000 each time (though independent repair shops likely would charge less).this has already happened twice and fiat will not help.hard to believe that fiat believes this is normal expected behavior on their vehicles, for owners to have to fork out $2000 every 20,000 miles for new pressure plates. When it happens to you, it can be very dangerous depending where you happen to be at the time. Internet searches for fiat pressure plate will show a pattern of this issue, and no official response from fiat.
I was driving along at about 30 mph and my clutch pedal became very difficult to push in and i could not shift. I was lucky enough to turn into a parking lot where i could not put the car into gear. Once the car was off i could move about the gears but once the car was on the pedal would not go down all the way and i could not get it into gear. There has been zero slipping or grinding of the gears and i have less than 30,000 miles. I am currently awaiting if my warranty will cover this issue. From what i have seen online the pressure plate has been cracked out warped so i plan to fight to have this covered under warranty. To think that a clutch would go out in 2.5 years and under 30,000 miles if crazy but when i spoke with fiat dealership he made it seem that they see it all the time and customer care at first said they have seen it multiple times....updated 7/19/16
The clutch peddle recall s-34 does not fit the problem with the fiat clutch assembly.the root cause of the problem is excessive pressure on the throw out bearing and subsequently the pressure plate. My clutched failed at 105170 miles at under 1 mph while going from a stop to putting it into reverse to park at my workplace in baton rouge, la.this occurred in late august and i was without my primary transportation until december 30th due to parts not being available for the recall issued and the recall not covering all of the failed parts as it should have. The consumer should not be responsible for a design failure on the manufacturers part and should not have to pay $1500 for a repair that fiat and the nhtsa should have recalled when clutches started failing with less that 20000 miles on them back in 2012.fiat needs to own up to their failure and recall the entire clutch assembly not just the peddle.that is like putting a bandage on a time bomb hoping nobody notices.
While driving to the store,i turned into the store parking lot,i pressed the clutch to shift the car down into a lower gear, and i could not shift.the car kept rolling and i lost power steering and the vehicle died.upon trouble shooting, the problem was a failed pressure plate not allowing the clutch to engage.

I was driving down a street by a school doing 20 mph. Went to down shift and the clutch locked up. I could not push it to the floor. Since i could not push the clutch down i could not shift gears. I have driven a clutch for over 30 years and never had to replace a clutch. There was no warning with this. Just happened with no previous slipping or any indication something was going bad with the clutch.
This vehicle is 4 years old, manual transmission, with approximately 26,000 miles. It has had regular service for oil changes and maintenance. I had been driving the car without incident. While exiting the highway there was resistance on the clutch when i put the car in neutral. At the bottom of the exit ramp i was unable to engage the clutch and could not get the car in gear. I was able to avoid other vehicles, and had a green light. I was able to make the left hand turn while coasting and stopped the car under the highway overpass where i waited for a tow truck. This is a fairly high-traffic area and other cars were unable to see my car until after making the left hand turn off of the exit ramp. The dealership states that the car needs a flywheel, clutch bearing and pressure disc plate. I understand that there have been similar complaints with fiat500s with manual transmissions. To date, there is still no recall attached to the vin number and fiat customer service has not been responsive to requests for assistance. Any additional nhtsa attention to these apparent manufacturing defects would be appreciated. Thank you.

I was driving in 3rd gear (manual trans) and tried to shift to 4th.the shift knob popped out of 3rd fine, but then would not go into 4th.when i tried to go back into 3rd it wouldn't engage.i ended up needing to shift into 2nd when the car lost momentum, it would not engage in this gear either, or 1st.i had to turn quickly onto a side street in order to not get hit from behind.with the car on, in neutral, and stationary, it would not shift into any gear (with the clutch pressed down).it felt like it just bounced out of gear without it ever engaging.with the car off, the shifter would engage fine - in any gear.from what i've read on multiple fiat forums, this is a reoccurring problem for many.my car has approximately 46,000miles, and not had any major issues thus far, with the engine and body are in great condition.- http://www.fiat500owners.com/forum/8-fiat-500-general-discussion-forum/81033-wont-able-shift-gears.html----http://www.fiat500owners.com/forum/8-fiat-500-general-discussion-forum/27713-stiff-clutch-car-wont-shift-into-gear-getting-sick-all-these-issues.html ----

I called chrysler phone number 800-992-1997 around 6:30pm-7:00pm on 03/05/2017 to inform them that my 2012 fiat 500 pop 2door hatchback nero black has a problem the reverse has stop working! i was informed that i would need to take the car to ken garff fiat in salt lake city utah! i explained that i would like to take the car to larry h. Miller chrysler dodge jeep in sandy utah. I ask chrysler if they would release the parts to fix my reverse to larry h. Miller chrysler dodge jeep. I was told i must take the vehicle to ken garff fiat of salt lake city. I then explained refusing to release the partsfor my fiat to anyone but ken garff fiat was not legal! the customer service agent reply by saying: "i don't no anything about being legal. ...... My reply was "oh that'sfor sure!"
I drive a manual fiat, and i smelled a burning smell and my clutch wasn't engaging properly, i was losing torque, and theres a loud squeaking when i press on the clutch.
Nhtsa16v-302 recall and fca solution will not solve the problem of defective part that creates the safety issue. It is only a bandaid that disguises the problem. Fca should be required to fix the defective part that creates the safety issue. This is an inadequate non-fix. The clutch cover diaphragm spring needs to be replaced in all manual transmission vehicles. Fca needs to be held responsible for repair or needs to extend warranty for the affected assembly. Car sometimes cuts off while driving with no warning. All guages spike, car cuts off. I pull over and it starts back up. No codes were stored. This is very dangerous. Can't find the problem.

I was driving down a busy thoroughfare at around 30 mph when my clutch suddenly stiffened up and became impossible to engage. I tried in vain to shift out of third gear as i neared a stoplight, but the gear stick wouldn't budge and the car ended up stalling in the middle of the road. I managed after a minute to yank the stick into neutral and coast down a small hill into an empty parking space. In the end, it was a dead clutch after only 30,000 miles. This could have easily caused an accident had it occurred on the freeway or in a busy intersection.

The car experienced a sudden clutch failure while driving on highway. This resulted in a very dangerous situation as the car no longer had power, and stopped on a section of highway with no shoulder space. The clutch was repaired at my cost in may 2016 (prior to the recall announcement, nhtsa recall number: 16v-302), and an online reimbursement request was made to fiat in july 2016 (after the recall announcement). I checked the status of my reimbursement request in september, and was told "from what i am showing on the file it still has not been reviewed as the parts for the recall are not available at this time. Once the parts do become available for the recall then the file will be reviewed for the reimbursement process."my complaint is that i have already repaired the automobile, so availability of parts is irrelevant, fiat is simply stalling reimbursement of the repair cost.
Vehicle has a manual transmission.without warning, during normal driving conditions on a city street, it became impossible to shift gears. The car had to be towed to a repair shop (fiat dealer) where it was discovered the flywheel, clutch pressure plate, and clutch bearing were broken and had to be replaced.cost for the repair was $1612.00

With a low mileage (under 20k miles), the car has been in taken back to the service department for over 5 times for main seal (between engine and the transmission) leakage, engine programming recall, and repeated noise when the car is in motion that can't be identified/fixed.
While driving in traffic on a city street at 6:10 am and upshifting at about 40 mph the clutch diaphragm spring fractured and the clutch no longer operated, and the gear could not be changed while engine was running.managed to bring car to a stop in left turn lane, get car in to neutral and push it across two lanes of traffic to a parking lot so i could be out of the intersection since it was dark.car had 25,583 miles on it at the time of the failure.friction disc still has plenty of material, pressure plate surface is smooth and free of damage, throw-out bearing is intact and rotates smoothly.condition of parts indicates minimal wear and tear on clutch and shows no signs of abuse.i acknowledge that i had received a recall notice to replace the clutch pedal assembly but had not yet had an opportunity to have the recall work done.my understanding is that the original clutch pedal assembly was allowing too much travel and operating the clutch diaphragm spring beyond its intended range of motion, stressing it to a point of failure.revised pedal assembly limits travel to prevent this.i am concerned about vehicles that have had the revised pedal assembly installed but are operating with the original clutch diaphragm spring that may have already been compromised and could still fail without warning.
Oil presure light comes on saying stop turn engine off low iol pressure after i drive it for about 10 mins i guess after it get hot. Then chexk engine liggt comes with it. 2012 fiat 500.consumer writes in regards to manual transaxle/clutch pedal recall 16v-302 technical difficulties.
Safety recall s34 was received in june 2016.parts are still not available.proposed repair only addresses the root cause but does not repair the clutch pressure plate diaphragm spring which is being "fatigued or fractured" by the clutch pedal over travel problem.for cars with significant mileage or age, such as ours, the proposed recall does not eliminate the potential failure as the clutch pressure plate has already been subject to significant over travel.

Gear shift is stuck in park but car is actually in neutral.it will not move.was pulling in parking spot and realized when i put car in park and release foot off brake my car was actually in neutral.cannot change gear.

Pulled up to a stop light, depressed clutch and shifted to neutral. When light turned green, i depressed the clutch and it locked up and would not engage allowing me to shift into a gear. Mechanic said its a bent pressure plate and the entire clutch assy. Needs replaced for ~$2,000. Obviously bending of the pressure plate is not "normal wear and tear" and its also very rare to have a clutch fail so early (20,000 miles). Unfortunately fiat is saying this is a normal wear and tear issue and is not covered under warranty. Reading the forums, this seems to be a very common problem with manual shift fiats and is a terrible safety hazard (think if the clutch locked up at highway speeds preventing someone from shifting out of gear). This part should be recalled and replaced on all manual transmission fiats and costs fully covered.

The vehicle "pops" out of 5th gear at highway speeds of 60mph or higher.the tachometer goes into the red and the car slows down in traffic or on a hill until placed into gear again.
Shortly after purchasing my vehicle i began to have issues with a soft clutch or a stuck clutch.usually while driving at freeway speeds and attempting to downshift or come to a stop the clutch pedal will lose all pressure and either become stuck to the floor or not operate normally.upon stopping and pumping the clutch some pressure will return and the clutch will operate abnormally for a shot time before returning to normal feel.usually the clutch will get stuck to the floor and i will be unable to pull the car out of gear while driving 50+ mph.the fluid level in the master cylinder has never fallen below normal and 2 separate dealerships have checked it multiple times and said there was no fault to be found but i experience this problem on either a monthly, weekly or even daily basis during the worst episodes.the car is currently at about 25,000 miles now and the problem remains a constant annoyance that leaves me feeling unsafe in operating the vehicle at times because i do not know when or how bad the problem will be.

At about 36,000 miles it became difficult to change gears and then shifter suddenly became impossible to control while on the road. Got off the road and car would not go into first gear, and when trying to reverse it made a horrible grinding sound. Car was immobile. Turns out that some 2012 fiats have been reported to have faulty pressure plates installed. Dealership said it was my pressure plate and quoted a price of 1100+ as they said clutch is not covered under warranty. I fought that and fiat chrysler corporation ended up paying for the new clutch assembly. A photo of pressure plate were emailed by dealer with the note: as you can see here in the picture the fingers for the pressure plate are bent in 3 places causing the issue you are experiencing. The good news is i have spoken with ericka from fiat chrysler headquarters and this will be warrantied by them at no cost to you for the parts, labor or rental.

2012 fiat 500.consumer requests reimbursement for clutch failure recall repairs. Recall # 16v302000.the consumer is seeking reimbursement, for two clutch repairs. The advisor acknowledged the problem had nothing to do with her operation of the vehicle. Chrysler/fiat agreed to a good will repair with a $250 deductible. When the clutch failed, it left the consumer unable to shift the vehicle in the middle of a five lane road. The vehicle had to be towed. The second time, the consumer was stranded in the middle of the street, unable to shift. Once again, the vehicle had to be towed.
Purchased 2012 year fiat 500c on 10/31/2011. As of march 3, 2014 put 22819 miles on car. This is a 5 speed manual transmission model. On march third the clutch gave out. Was told by fiat this wasn't an warranty item, although the window sticker says 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty. They also say free roadside assistance for 4 years / unlimited miles but since i refused to allow them to take this car 18 miles to a fiat dealer and only 1.4 miles to my local mechanic i had to pay out of pocket for towing. I paid out of pocket aprox $2,000 including, car rental, towing and a $1,772.45 repair bill. Per the mechanic the clutch disc itself was in excellent condition, but the clutch pressure plate was at fault. From my own personal experience of restoring a few old cars and motorcycles over the years, this is pretty unheard of a clutch pressure plate failing before the actual clutch disc. My take there is some defect with this clutch pressure plate or the overall design of the manual clutch. As of this date, i haven't needed to replace the brake pads on this car so how in the world should it need a new clutch? this is crazy.

Clutch wear seems to be excessive for mileage (25k) on vehicle. Clutch is slipping and pressure plate, fork, bearing and related components are failing. Engagement point very high up in pedal travel. Sometimes shifter gets stuck in gear and very difficult to shift gears.

My vehicle was stationary in the driveway when it refused to shift out of neutral or into reverse. It''s been taken in for an initial diagnostic and i've been informed the pressure plate is worn and they say it''s unrelated to the well known s34 recall. My car is only at 38000 miles and they say it''s normal for a pressure plate to wear at this period but i find it difficult to believe so many people have the same problem and that it''s entirely unrelated to the clutch spring issues stemming from the clutch travel not having a limiter.if i'd been on the road or freeway this would have been very dangerous for me and i'm concerned by the amount of people experiencing the same problem.the company officially so far has told me that it''s not covered under warranty as the pressure plate warranty only lasts 1yr or 12,000 miles which is ridiculous considering the importance of the part, the difficulty and expense of replacing it, and the fact there are so many related elements they've chosen to ignore as possibility cause.i've been quoted just under 1600 to replace it.this is unacceptable in a car at only 38000 miles to have such an expensive and dangerous issue that has been reported significantly.

The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving 25 mph and attempting to switch gears, the clutch fractured. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v302000 (power train); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000. Driving vehicle near my home on a city street went to shift gears and the clutch did not fully disengage. Had to shut the engine off to put it in second gear to get back home. Contacted dealership and they told me the s34 recall had been completed when the vehicle had 20,000 miles. The vehicle now has 38,000 miles and it is exhibiting the failed clutch pressure plate fingers. Chrysler customer service basically told me the recall was performed and the clutch pedal limiter was installed.
Their address is: 222 w broadway street, fortville , in 46040 and contact # is (317) 777 1931
While exiting the freeway, i noticed that the clutch felt different in that there was suddenly a lot of resistance near the floor when depressing the clutch pedal. Car would not go into 1st gear at the light. Finally struggled it into 2nd and went. The clutch does not fully disengage. After searching online forums, i found that this is a recurrent problem with the vehicle, and it is most likely a pressure plate failure, since the clutch does not slip once it's in gear, but the clutch also does not fully disengage with the pedal pressed all the way down, even though previously, the clutch disengaged at half pedal height. I was able to baby the car home, and proceeded to bleed the hydraulic cylinders and observe clutch pedal action. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the actuator moves all the way on the transmission, so it is not a pedal failure. It is most definitely the pressure plate, which is obviously defective.

Vehicle sustained a catastrophic clutch failure while being driven at approx 25 mph resulting in an inoperable vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle could not be shifted out of 4th gear as clutch could not be engaged. Vehicle had to be turned off and emergency brake used to guide vehicle off of road. Vehicle towed to dealer. Manufacture replaced pressure plate and clutch. Vehicle displayed no signs of worn clutch prior to incident.
The clutch failed without warning, preventing the car from shifting gears -- from second to third gear in regular, city-street traffic (lyndale ave., in minneapolis, mn). At the moment of failure, i heard/felt a distinct yet light "thump" as i pressed down on the clutch pedal.the car only has 40k miles on it.
For the record my vehicle is at my home and not at a fiat studio this has beenverified by my local police department. I will take my vehicle into fiat to complete the incomplete recall when........ Chrysler fiat gets mechanics in the state of utah that are certified and trained to work on a fiat using the proper tools!when i spoke with fiatphone number 800-992-1997 on 01/16/2017 around 9am mountain day light time i felt as if i was being cohered into summiting a claim for reimbursement of the faulty parts that were put into my vehicle by fiat chryslerin slc utah between 10/03/2016 and 10/27/2016 i have not and will authorize anyone to be reimbursed on my behalf. I have not filed any claim myself for reimbursement.
Driving at city speeds ~20mph at only 12k miles, clutch pedal suddenly became stiff, and was unable to shift gears. Had to have car towed to dealership where i was informed by the dealership that the clutch had fused to the flywheel (i do not trust that this was an accurate, complete diagnosis).about 2 years later (end of 07/2014) and only around 35k miles, was driving on the interstate 2 hours away from home ( at ~65mph), and when i exited to get gas, the pedal once more became instantly stiff out of nowhere and was nearly unable to get the car off the road.had to have the car towed from dealer to dealer until it was in my home city. The dealer then again told me that the clutch and flywheel had gone out.

We received notice in july from fiat stating that there was a recall for the clutch on my husband's car. It also stated that the part wasn't available yet. On sunday, october 16th, the clutch goes out on my husband's car. We have it towed to the fiat dealership. The dealership tell us "we do not give out loaners, we don't have the part to fix your car and we don't know when we will get it. Call dodge about getting a rental car."i called and was connected with someone at fiat and they said this part will not be ready until "sometime in november".i asked what are we supposed to do for a car because that is 2 to 3 weeks away and my husband needs this car for work.she stated she would forward it to a case manager and they would get back to me in 1 day. They called on tuesday and said "we aren't giving out rentals on this recall but save your receipts and after it is fixed maybe we will reimburse you after we review it."how is this fair?it isn't our fault the part wasn't available or we would have replaced it.my husband's car is still under the 50,000 mile warranty so why can't they just put in a new clutch and then replace the recall part once it comes in?we do not have the income to pay for a rental car for the next 2 to 3 weeks but we are having to charge it just so my husband can get to and from work.if there isn't a fix for our car, then what is our remedy?at the moment, it is sitting up at the car lot until a part comes in.i called yesterday to talk to our case manager about this and i haven't received a call back.her name is [xxx] and our case # is [xxx].what do we do?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Locking mechanism on driver's side seat belt failed.buckle popped open and cannot be locked.must use passenger side locking mechanism in order to protect driver.if two passengers are in the front seat, only one can be protected due to this failure.locking mechanism appears to be jammed or locked up and will not "click" when seat belt tongue is inserted per factory specifications.this is a dangerous defect and manufacturer states cannot fix until "parts are available", estimated november 2014.
Hubcaps easily fall off while on freeway and when turning. At times the seat belt doesn't fully retract itself, causing it to become loose.
I'm a police officer that investigated a crash involving a ford f150 p/u traveling approximately 35-40 mph; rear ending, straight on, a 2012 fiat 500c that was stopped waiting to make a turn.upon impact both front seats in the fiat completely reclined and twisted outward to the extent the seats could not return to the upright position. The outward sides of the seat backs were wedge against the "b" pillar. Leg injuries would have been likely if there were back seat passengers.
Front seat mechanism will not operate, occupants can not get out of car on driver's side because the seat mechanism does not work and the back of the seat does not flip forward
This vehicle was recently awarded an iihs top pick safety award, but only for vehicles manufactured after july, 2011, when fiat redesigned the seats for better side-impact protection.i own a fiat 500 manufactured before july, so clearly my car is not as safe as those built afterward.can nhtsa investigate and possibly force fiat to recall the early vehicles to install the safer seats?from my dealings with them on simple, little things i'm confident they wouldn't volunteer to do it on their own.
Passenger seat does not secure to under carriage after being leaned forward for entry to back seat. Vigorous manipulation will eventually set it, but if not set sudden acceleration will bring seat forcefully against the legs of rear passenger. This occurred to us last year.3 service visits to kirkland, wa dealership have all resulted in our being told that the seats are the #1 complaint and that the operation is normal.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that the driver's seat lever failed to move the seat back down. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 35,000.
I car warning lights started coming on and staying on all the time. I took the car in for an oil change and was advised i needed a new motor. The car is constantly stalling, cutting off all the time, bearly restarting and only able to drive less than 25 mph. This is the problem every time i start it up.
Warning says airbag malfunction, all the time.brakes wear every 1000 miles.wheel bearings went out at 70,000 miles..these malfunctions happen when moving...
Brakes almost failed while driving, ignition stalled several times, steering is loose at times while driving. Reported on july 27,2015 to landmark fiat of atlanta, ga.about these problems and no one has gotten back to me as yet for repairs! scared to drive vehicle!
I am a real estate agent. Last year 2019 i went to an open house and parked in the driveway which was on an incline - with a plateau for parking. I've been driving a standard transmission for 30 years. When i park i place my gear in 1st with the parking brake fully engaged. I parked the car, went into the home to view the home, and was inside 15 minutes. When i went back to my car, it was gone. The car had rolled backward down the hill and into a guardrail. There were neighbors all around my car, and one man said, "it makes no sense it the parking break is engaged." the neighbors had video of the crash. The car was parked approx 10 minutes before rolling down the hill. My car was damaged by the guard rail, and thankfully no humans were hurt. Had the guardrail not been there -- the car would have gone over a ravine and into a home.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that after driving, the tires were extremely warm. The vehicle was taken to a tire specialist to be inspected. The contact was informed that the passenger's side front control arm bolt loosened from the vehicle which caused the tire to tilt inward with the front control arm slightly detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to palmetto alfa romeo-fiat service department (2065 ne 151st st, north miami beach, fl 33162, (305) 948-6794) where the mechanic replaced the front rotor, rotor shield, wheel bearing, front control arm and bolts. The contact stated that the vehicle previously experienced a similar failure on the front driver's side and was repaired by massey yardley jeep chrysler dodge ram (777 n. State rd 7, plantation, fl 33317, (954) 327-4000). The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving approximately 15 mph, while attempting to make a turn when the control arm detached from the vehicle. The contact stated that there was fluid leaking from the ball joint on the driver's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,161.
Failed clutch cover diaphragm spring may result in the inability to disengage the clutch, shift gears and the potential for a loss of motive powerwhich could cause a crash without warning. No accidents to report

Driving down the highway with my cruise control on, and all of a sudden my emergency brake light came on and the brakes were applied and cancelled the cruise control.there was nothing around my emergency brake. I pulled over to pull it and make sure nothing was making it be engaged.drove on home with no other problems.
The steering column, down by the floor sucked my floor mat up under my accelerator and brake pedal. I could not brake, or turn the steeringwheel....updated 06/28/13

2012 fiat 500c mileage 86649. When driving over a bump or pothole a loud metallic sound is heard on the driver's side and to a lesser extent from in front of the engine down low when both wheels go over a crack in the road simultaneously. Carcomplaints.com says some persons have experienced the control arm disengaging from the steering mechanism on both the driver and passenger sides. Other's report a broken ball joint causing car to lose control. One person reported that when "firestone" tried to get a "d/s" axle replacement part they were told it was a "customer satisfaction recall." but when the fiat 500 was taken to the dealer they said no such recall existed and wanted owner to pay the total cost. I am the original owner of this 2012 fiat 500cspecial order dealer showroom model. Thousand oaks fiat ordered [xxx] with all the top features, color combinationsand options special from the factory for their showroom and not intended for general sale. Being a good talker and having a load of cash i was able to obtain this machine.it has always been driven gently. Now with the clunking noise and learning of others having serious ball joint and control arm separation causing loss of steering control and a reported customer "satisfaction" quiet recall - i think fiat knew of the problem and should have a recall for any owner regardless of mileage to repair this dangerous condition.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

At 47,500 miles and 4 years, 9 months of ownership, my passenger side lower front ball joint broke.there were no signs of problems leading up to the breakage.unfortunately fiat no longer makes the 2012 lower front ball joints and the 2013+ ball joints require a new assembly so the entire ball joint, control arm, etc. Assembly has to be created.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving 50 mph, an abnormal noise was heard coming from the steering wheel while turning it in either direction. The vehicle was taken to safford chrysler jeep dodge ram srt of fredericksburg (5202 jefferson davis hwy, fredericksburg, va 22408, (540) 898-7200) where it was diagnosed that the intermediate steering shaft needed to be replaced. 2012 fiat 500 prima edizione. Backing out of parking lot, driver's side front wheel disconnects from the lower control arm. Car falls almost to the ground. Dealer identifies worn ball joint. Just under 62k miles. Recent alignment and tire replacement done by the dealer. All regular service done at same local dealer since new. First and only owner. Very fortunate this did not happen on the highway at speed.
Power steering failure with steering wheel turning on it's own. When the power steering is about to fail, it pulls the wheel before going into stiff, manual steering. Almost caused several accidents while trying to regain control.i have a video of the vehicle parked afterwards, still running and the wheel spinning on it's own. Scary. I read a fiat owners blog where many people were experiencing the same issue. Issue seems to be when in motion and when still. I will try to upload the video i took of the wheel spinning on it's own, it says image or document, so may have to send after submission of this complaint. This issue started in early 2018 intermittently however now is a regular issue. 10/9/2019 almost caused an accident on the 5 fwy.
The steering wheel makes a bad noise when turning the wheel. I brought the vehicle in to the dealership and they verified that it is a defective steering column. They put part on order. It has been a month and still not in. I called the corporate headquarters and they said that they would try to expedite the part. I explained that i've been waiting for a month now, and the dealership said they would cancel the order and re order it. What do i have to get in a crash first and wait another month?maybe hurt not only myself, but god forbid others? please help.
Vehicle has a defective intermediate steering shaft. This part was already replaced once under warranty with fiat admitting that the part is defective/substandard for purpose it fills in the cars steering functionality. After a period of time (appx 3 years or 36k miles) it starts making a clunk when turning at slow speeds.if left unrepaired it will result in loss of steering control when vehicle is in operation.approximate cost of repair is $500 for parts and labor. When contacting fiat about this concern and that it was replaced under warranty once for being faulty i was told that my warranty was expired and it was my burden to replace the defective part.new part only carries a 1 year limited warranty. This problem mainly occurs at slow speeds when making full turns however it could fail at high speed leaving driver with no vehicle control.
Axle is making cracking noises and dealer said they can't duplicate after 2 attempts.noise is getting louder.first started at 600 miles.safety issue.
Brakes almost failed while driving, ignition stalled several times, steering is loose at times while driving. Reported on july 27,2015 to landmark fiat of atlanta, ga.about these problems and no one has gotten back to me as yet for repairs! scared to drive vehicle!
Was driving on the freeway and the car lost power.all lights on indicator dash went off. No steering ability and little/no control of vehicle. Failure resulted in a crash.no airbags deployed even though there was side impact to both sides and front end impact.the car was totaled.
Heavy moisture appears on the inside of the windshield after car cools.could lead to damage to electrical components.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500 sport. The contact stated that while entering the highway at 20 mph, the rear roof wing became detached from the vehicle and flew into incoming traffic.
Ball-joint broke off completely causing damage to tires and front wheel well panel. Vehicle only has 36k miles and tires are rotated at every oil change. 10/4/15rust spots on back hatch panel (reported over a year ago, has been returned 2 times and they are fighting me on the 3 return)
Car falls front and drops on a parking lot. I was manuvering to park and the car fall because the tire , shock, transaxle, ball joint fall off. Was told recently need to replace d/s axel but when firestone went to call fiat for part they were told' this vehicle has customer service satisfaction recall in which with the axel the control arm and other components must be replaced and to refer to dealerships or recall. When went to fiat dealership they said there no recall and proceed to say must buy rf axle, lower control arm, knuckle, bearing in order to replace original axle. Parts alone totaling 1131.75. Its was only 5 year old car at time. And previous fiat owners say they received the customer service recall before alfa romero said no.

Axle is making cracking noises and dealer said they can't duplicate after 2 attempts.noise is getting louder.first started at 600 miles.safety issue.
My steering shaft has been making noise since the car was purchased, the part has been on back order every time the car has been in for service. It's been a year, since i've had a clunking steering shaft, and they assured me it will be fixed.... But the part is on back order... This is a common issue with these cars it seems.
Lower ball joints on both sides loose and show excessive wear. Dealership performed maintence and did not notice anything while under warranty but next maintence showed excessive wear and car was just out of warranty and fiat would not cover repair. Numerous documented incidents on 2012 fiat 500's where ball joints have broken loose. A serious safety issue that fiat needs to address as the ball joints are wearing within 50,000-60000 miles
Their address is: 222 w broadway street, fortville , in 46040 and contact # is (317) 777 1931
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While driving at approximately 70 mph, the steering seal was loose. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was located at the ball joints. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
My fiat 500 has a defective rear axle. The rear wheels are not in alignment. The axle is solid and has no adjustment, therefore it is a manufacturing defect. The rear wheels are toed in excessively which has led to premature tire wear, vibration and inferior fuel mileage. This is a common defect on many early 500's and the dealer refuses to correct the problem.
Noticed car would 'hunt' over rutted road surfaces such as coming to a stop at a traffic light. Took in for alignment and was told driver side ball joint bad and the upper strut mount was as well. Was also informed by both a local goodyear dealer and the fiat dealer that the original parts were not available and that the repair would be $1400+ because multiple things had to be upgraded to a later year's specifications requiring the purchase and installation of 2013 or later cast not stamped lower control arm with new joint. Because that had to be changed, the steering knuckle, the bearings and the drive shaft would all require replacement to match the 2013 or later product. This would be very expensive as noted and is a known problem that the manufacturer is ignoring. This should be a 100% manufacturer paid replacement if they have determined the part is not safe or otherwise too defective to be sold.

There is no way to adjust the rear suspension for being out of alignment. Because of this, the tire wear unevenly on the inside while having the appearance to have proper tread. New tires lasted only 18,000 miles.
With a low mileage (under 20k miles), the car has been in taken back to the service department for over 5 times for main seal (between engine and the transmission) leakage, engine programming recall, and repeated noise when the car is in motion that can't be identified/fixed.

Having problems with the front end on vehicle-when i take off it wobbles-i was told that these cars are popular with front end problems- also i did read there was a recall to replace front end parts could you please look into this -hoprfully this defectwill be addressedthanks the vehicle was in motion at the time and i was on a city street-i'm truly concerned on
Really cold morning, upon starting, the tpms reported the left front tire low on pressure.
I need to replace the same lite once at monthone of the lite burn onence a month
While driving, i attempted to shift from 3rd to 4th gear and the clutch would not depress and i was not able to shift.the car has always shifted well and was shifting fine until the moment that the clutch pedal could not not be depressed.there was no warning that clutch was about to fail.i was able to coast off the road to a safe location, but this could have been very dangerous if it would have happened during rush hour.
"manual transaxle clutch pedal"there is an ongoing recall that since may 2016 however parts were not available dealer finally informed us part was available and scheduled appointment for 5/9/2017 at 9am. Car was being driven to appointment when clutch failed to disengage resulting in car rearending car infrontof it at speeds between 50 to 60 mph.
I got a flat tire on a primitive road on the way back from a hike. I thought i was prepared for this, because i had a spare tire and all the equipment to change it. However the device that deploys the spare was broken. I had to drive the last 1.5 miles on the primitive road to get to a place where a mechanic wold find my car. From the main road i still needed a stranger to drive me 7 miles uphill to get cell service. I was in a very dangerous town and it was getting dark out. But even once the mechanic arrived he was unable to access the spare. Due to the spare not releasing and having to drive an extra mile after getting a flat tire i now have a bent rim as well. I had to get rides from three strangers, and spend the night in a sketchy hotel.
My gear shifter wire broken to the point it would gets stuck in drive or park or reverse even though i had shifted to a different position. When i would turn off my car even thought i put it in park it still believed that it was in reverse and would roll.

I received a recall notice on my 2012 fiat pop in november 2016.i called stateline fiat and was told that i would receive a call when the parts came in.i never received that call.on 02/20/2017 i was on my way to work in heavy traffic in uptown charlotte nc and my clutch went out and i was nearly hit by oncoming traffic.i called the dealership.i had my car towed there.that was 6 days ago.i am very unhappy because no one ever called me in to get the recall repaired.no one offered me towing and now 6 days later i still do not have a car.i am very disappointed with fiat and i fear that this car will not last very long.i reached out to the dealership and fiat usa before deciding to send this complaint

A piece inside the shifter broke and made the car stall. It basically wouldn't move while i was on a busy road.

I drove down from il to wi with my fiat pop 500 2012 on highway 39 and all of the sudden about an hour away to my destination, my sunroof spontaneously exploded (boom!) along with loud noise.i ducked down and all the sunroof glasses was shattered and fell off onto my head, my laps and mostly went falling down on the front of passenger seat.this was happening on a clear summer sunny day, on friday, june 28th of 2019.there's no foreign objects, there's not a lot (congested) of traffics, there's no any semi trucks around me nor the bad weather or any distractions whatsoever.it was around 6:10 pm local time and it is about an hour away from my final destination to madison, wi.the weather was around 81 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, very clear sky, no rain, no wet road.nice and dry summer time to drive, normal breeze.sky are all clear and sunny.weather: 8humidity: 62%, barometer: 30.06 hg, and se winds condition: 6.214 mph.as a women who completely doesn't know anything about cars except took my car to the auto shop for regular oil change, this was very scary to me - completely relying on my safety with the car that i own and i drive everyday, and this accident definitely made me realized that fiat pop 500 it is not a safe to be drive for anyone period.the sunroof that all of the sudden spontaneously exploded with no valid reason whatsoever and there's no warning from fiat that could be part of their defect in this type of car it's very dangerous for anybody event to consider purchase this type of car. Car will not start and will not come out of park. Lights are all on, and checked battery and all is fine. Being told it is the gear shift module.time/date: 6:45 am 02/08/20vehicle was stationary.
Fiat recalli am having problems with propulsion where the clutch will sometimes not fully release when going from one gear to the next, and i will have no power, and have to step down on the clutch again and re-engage the gear. I am afraid it is related to the recall, and that eventually it will not fix it to step on the clutch again. And now i am in a situation where because fiat does not know yet what parts they are going to replace specifically, if i get the car repaired i will have to pay out of pocket. I already had to pay $120 for a diagnosis because fiat would not even consider helping me if i didn't have a diagnosis. Meanwhile, if fiat hq doesn't know the parts yet, how is the local fiat studio supposed to know? they will almost certainly be forced to replace extra parts, which fiat will likely not reimburse me for. How can they be allowed to have a recall wth no scheduled replacement if my car is showing symptoms of the recall... What's worse is that i no longer have use of my car and have been forced to rent one from a friend... And finally, i was planning on selling my car in early july so now fiat is costing me additional money there as i obviously can't sell a car waiting for a recall. Don't i have some rights here?

One day my air bag failiure light came om along with a fuel cutoff unavailble light. Both of these lights were temporarily fixed by manually locking and unlocking the doors. Recently that fix has not worked. While these errors are happening my cruise control will not turn on at all.
While driving car lost power and smoke began coming out from under hood. Immediately after the check engine light came on. Car was pulled to side of interstate.immediately got out and looked under hood to see flames and smoke.called 911 report the fire, dispatch said fire and police would arrive soon.checked under the hood for a second time, there was considerable more fire and smoke. Proceeded to gather purse and bag from the backseat.approximately 4 minutes had elapsed.by this time the car is completely engulfed in flames. I moved approximately 300 feet away in fear the car may explode. Another 4-5 minutes passed when police arrived and an additional 6-7 more minutes for the firefighters to respond.as for personal safety, driving had approximately 4 minutes to escape vehicle from check engine light appearing to the entire be completely encompassed with flames. Driver escaped unharmed, but was incredibly shaken by the scary events that unfolded in such a rapid period of time.car was not able to be saved.
I got a recall notice today.it states that there are problems with the clutch cover diaphragm spring which may fatigue or fracture causing an "inability to disengage the clutch, shift gears and the potential for a loss of motive power".this "could cause a crash without warning".it would be gross negligence on my part todrive a vehicle that could injure or kill me or someone else.i called the dealer immediately.parts were not in stock and they did not know when they would be available.i asked for a rental car in the meantime.they denied my request.i then called fca (fiat chryslerautomobiles) and talked to 3 people there about a rental car.they also denied my request.i do not feel it is my responsibility to pay for a rental car when the defect is the problem of the manufacturer with no information about when the parts will be available.this could cost me thousands of dollars.i am requesting a rental car immediately until my car can be repaired.thank you.
My 2012 fiat500c had clutch/pressure plate failure a few weeks ago. I got into my car to run some errands and it started fine although i did feel the clutch was a bit stiff. I got up to 3rd gear and drove 2 blocks toward the intersection. As i tried to shift the gear to neutral at the red light i could not change gears. Luckily i pressed down hard enough pressing on the breaks and managed to bring the gear to neutral. I put my hazard lights on and managed to roll to the side of the road. I immediately called my fiat service center and told them what had happened. They instructed me to call the complimentary tow service. I got a call on monday morning saying that the pressure plate and clutch needed to be replaced and it would cost ~$1000. I asked the service advisor why it wasn't covered by the warranty and he said that it was considered a wear and tear issue. In other words, it was my fault the clutch failed at 32,000 miles. I contacted fiatcares and they said they would look into it. Their reply was that the car needed a new pressure plate and new clutch and that the technician did not believe that this was caused by a defect on the manufacturer's part and therefore they were unable to provide assistance with the repair. No clutch should wear out within 3 years and ~30k miles when it has had only one driver with experience in driving a manual transmission vehicle. It is quite clear from public accounts that 2012 fiat 500's exhibit premature clutch wear problems. In addition to the clutch issue, i've encountered problems with my car almost from the very beginning, when it only had a few hundred miles on it. I've had numerous false-start issues with the ignition, i've even had a incident where my engine completely shut off while driving! luckily this occurred while driving in the city. Imagine how dangerous that would have been if i were driving 70 mph on a highway.
Hello,i went to the dealership and i them to fix my shifter cable recall and they said we don't have this part yet till next year and i need to remove the recall to start rent my car through turo.

Air bag lights are not showing on the instrument cluster the airbags are not working!
I experienced unintended acceleration twice this week. The first incident took place on january 31, 2014. The other was february 1, 2014. Both incidents took place at low speeds. Basically as i was coming to a stop, the car just accelerated out of control. I was under 5mph on both incidents. What it feels like is as i am coming to a slow down the transmission does not go down in gear and just thrusts and takes off. I ran into a hedge in the parking lot on the february 1st incident. I was able to apply the brakes, but not in time to avoid the collision with the hedge. I did not have my foot on, or near the accelerator. Both times my foot was on the brake.
There is an existing recall s34 / nhtsa 16v -302 on my vehicle. The service center, helfman fiat alfa romeo maserati 7720 katy fwy, houston, tx 77024 is unable to remedy this defect until may 24th 2017. This is an unreasonable amount of time.
Manual clutch recall received june 2016. Per only rhode island dealer, fiat still has not provided the repair parts as of october 27, 2016.serious safety issue as clutch continues to stick or not return unpredictably in moving traffic situations.five months have passed since recall and manufacturer has failed to remedy.nhtsa should impose a serious and exemplary fine and other penalty. My wife was exiting a mall parking lot to pull into the left turn lane of the adjoining road (a very short distance, perhaps 25 feet).there was a car already in the left turn lane, which was waiting for the traffic signal to change.while pulling in behind this car, the brake pedal was depressed, but the car suddenly and rapidly accelerated.pressing harder on the brake had no effect.with only 1 or 2 seconds to react, a futile attempt was made to steer clear of the car ahead, which was struck.the fiat then veered to the right and hit a second car that had been waiting for the light in the right lane.the second car was pushed into a vehicle ahead of it which had also been waiting for the light.after striking this second vehicle, the fiat finally came to a halt in the right lane.
The steering column, down by the floor sucked my floor mat up under my accelerator and brake pedal. I could not brake, or turn the steeringwheel....updated 06/28/13
Heavy moisture appears on the inside of the windshield after car cools.could lead to damage to electrical components.
From california visiting family in oklahoma. At the time of visit we experienced a winter cold front that brought ice rain and snow. Went out on the morning of the incident to warm the cars in the yard, and the temperature at the time was 18 degrees wind chill, with effect was 5 degrees. Started the car and let it warm up for about 15 minutes, and heat and defrost were not turned on at the time, then after 15 minutes went out to turn off all the vehicles. I then turned off the fiat and close the doors and took two steps away from car and the rear window exploded outward. When i warmed up the car, no defroster was turned on of any kind, i just turned the car on so the fluids wouldn't freeze.i called ahead of time to ask all the appropriate questions before heading out to 45 minutes to the dealership.then i took it in to dealership to have it looked at, and was told that it was not covered under a standard 12 by 12 service contract without inspecting the vehicle.they didn't do any diagnostic test like they said they would over the phone, they only did a oil change that i asked for. They told us that it was impossible for this to happen, and it could only be caused by some type of impact. They never took off the plastic on the widows that we put on to hold what glass that was left in place.i called corporate and talked to service department, and gave them pertinent information concerning the window.they open the file for us, and checked warranties. Then i was asked to describe what happened, she took down that information, and then was put on hold, because she need to confer with the technicians at the dealership. After talking with the technician, i was told by her that they conclude that it was impact related and could not be service under any warranty.we found additional situations on the internet on fiat windows exploding.
The wiring harness gets crimped when it goes from the main body of the car into the hatch creating shorts and malfaction of electric components. As, does the rear wiper hose. Which leaks and empties into the wiring harness. This happens everywhere, at all times.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. While the vehicle was stationary, the windshield wiper/turn signal lever fractured and fell off. The contact used the hazard lights and drove home. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 36,954.
Intermittent exterior marker light failure. Front passenger marker light and rear driver's side brake light fail to operate on occasion. The light sensor in the gauge cluster alerts to failure. When later investigating, all lights appear to function properly.
The contact owns a 2012 fiat 500. The contact stated that when using the window switch for the window to close upward, the window would instead open farther and travel downward. When the window was engaged to be opened, the window would instead travel upward and close. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that the vehicle was built to operate in the manner in which it was. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance to the contact. The failure and current mileage was approximately 3,000.

My tire pressure monitoring system light stayson despite having changed all four tires and valve pressure stems.there seems to be an inherent problem with the system. Looking on the fiat forums online apparently many other owners arehaving the same problem with the wireless system. My vehicle is a 2012 with less than 40k miles. I remember having the problem when the car was under warranty and now again. Tires and valve pressure stems all new and installed and checked by costco tire center.the system has not reset itself despite numerous attempts.
I hadto replace 10 hub caps from 2012 - 2014(86,000). The plastic that hold the ring on the hub cab keep breaking with just a small bump. I have bought 4. Fiat has replaced 6 so far on my car and have lost now 3 more and has been on back order for 7 months now. Fiat said they will replace them after 4 months of griping. Now my wife has a 2013 model and she doesn't put as may miles as i do and she is having the same problems. 15" steal rims with hub caps. I have 40 yr as a ford mechanic and has work as an service rep. This co. Has no one that you can talk to one on one and get any answers. All done on phone. I have asked to have someone call but only customer service. If you look on the web alot of customers have the same problem and can't get the hub caps to replace.to many on back order. Just at my dealer there is over 60 orders for the part. Right now i have only 1 hub cap on my car and looks bad.
Dealer refuse to change a defective tire (gouge) in side wall. I did not take possession of car at the time of purchase, due to after hours. Following day service manager called me saying it was cosmetic and that it meets nhtsa standards. I could stick my finger into the hole and feel the tire cord. Looked at car initially with poor lighting. Noticed this defect just prior to driving off where there was better lighting.
Rear wheel bearing failure:at 47,700 miles and 4 years 4 months after purchase of my 2012 fiat 500 (4 months past warranty), the right rear wheel bearing has failed and the left rear wheel bearing is failing.normally oem wheel bearings should last over 100,000 miles.in my 50 years driving, i have never had a vehicle in which the wheel bearings failed at such a low mileage.
I car warning lights started coming on and staying on all the time. I took the car in for an oil change and was advised i needed a new motor. The car is constantly stalling, cutting off all the time, bearly restarting and only able to drive less than 25 mph. This is the problem every time i start it up.
Hubcaps easily fall off while on freeway and when turning. At times the seat belt doesn't fully retract itself, causing it to become loose.
