I bought the vehicle new in february of 1995, thirteen months after buying the vehicle the timing belt snapped.the engine was essentially replaced.three months later the water pump failed and was replaced, it failed again and was replaced again.the vents on the dashboard popped out and had to be replaced, they have since popped out again.the horn relay has been replaced twice and still does not function properly.the brakes were resurfaced after about 4 months because of a defect.the alarm has been replaced three times.the battery has been replaced twice.all of these problems occured in the first three years i owned the vehicle.in the past four months i have noticed a very strong odor of fuel in the car, i have brought it to several mechanics, without success.the car had developed a stalling problem about a month ago - in an attempt to correct the problem my mechanic replaced the gasket kit (leak) because he felt the plugs were getting wet.about three months ago my front and rear wipers stopped working, i tried replacing the fuse, they still don't work.last week on my way to work my car lost all power and i am now told that my transmission is shot and needs to be rebuilt.help!

The battery only last 1 year. The computer gets wet inside somehow and shorts out, this is very common on these cars. I have spoken to a few others and they have the same problem. There is a seal or something that is not i place.

I would just like to say that i have had more problems than anyone could imagine with this car.it has been in the shop over 20 times. I have had the starter replaced, water pump, altenator, brake pads replaced twice and the rotors for warping as well as one of the calipers. I have also had more than 4 batteries gone out a host of electrical problems from the door locks burning out and being replaced at least twice the intrument cluster lights going out.i have also had to have the drive splines(not sure of the spelling) replaced due to cracking and braking problems with them. The valve taplets have been replaced due to a leaking down of all 16 of them, the exhaust mainfold was just replaced for a warping that cracked it and was causing exhaust to escape into the engine compartment.the dash has been replaced for cracking. Then taking back out for a mess up.still wondering if the airbags were hooked back up . Hope i never have to find out. This is just a hint at some of the problems i have had.i'm very upset because i take very good care of my car and have had all the work done on my car by the dealership to prevent problems down the road such as tune ups and a host of other jobs on my car done before the recommend time.thanks for any info you could give me .

Morning of incident, on the way to work noticed speedometer wasn't working.coming back from lunch, smelled odor.pulled over, popped hood, saw small fire left side, and put out with fire extinguisher.towed to dealer, they made oem spec. Repair, replacing damaged compoents.i have old speed sensor, it looks to me the most likely source of the problem.my concern is this can happen again.i believe the speed sensor circuit should be fused.i am in the process of pursuing this concern with damlierchrysler (bob dunn, 612-553-2569).fyi, state farm is not covering most the damage cost (~$850), claiming the defective component (comprehensive doesn't cover the defective part, but other parts damaged in fire) to be the wiring harness, the big ticket item, and not the speed sensor.so for 2 reasons i really want to determine the actual cause of the fire.fyi, the original/bad sensor.i received from the dealer, presumably the speed sensor, appears to be a 3 terminal device, with the middle pin missing (burned up?).i tried measuring the resistance between the other two terminals, and saw ~800ohms.the sensor damage suggests coupled with my observation that the speedometer malfunction implies to me that the speed sensor and not the harness failed. I'm guessing the sensor is bulit by mitsubishi, and don't know what to do with it next, e.g. Who would/should do failure analysis.i also have a new $600 wiring harness, missing just the speed sensor female connector harness (the mechanic scavanged it to do the repair), it would no doubt be of some use in an investigation.if you have any information that will help me convince the state farm adjuster to pay my claim, please contact me:[email protected]!

Consumer received recall regarding the oil gasket, dealer changed the gasket and a month later vehicle overheated, dealer replaced the thermostat and consumer paid for repairs.

The transmission failed, the vehicle stalled when stopped, when in gear with the brake engaged, also upon acceleration, the power steering failed, the check engine light was intermittent, the vehicle had bucked when stopped in park, and had continued to idle erratically. Tsb # 18-04-96scc

Mismatched sizes between crankshaft and ball bearings, enabling the crankshaft to move. The moving crankshaft destroyed the crank shaft sensor, and there is significant wear in the ball bearings. All three independent dealers i contacted regarding this problem deem it beyond normal wear--a defective part. Further research at the dsm car club (http://www.dsm.org) revealed that this is a common problem in talon/eclipses, model years 1995-1998. This is a safety concern because the car engine will stop with no warning, leaving the driver without assisted steering. I contacted chrysler, but they disavow any responsibility.

While driving vehicle jerks and backfires.when driving off from a stop vehicle has no power. Took to dealer, and dealer indicated it was a leak in head gasket.

I purchased a vehicle from a private party that ensured me the vehicle was mechanicly sound. I drove the vehicle for about 20 minutes and it shut down. I took the vehicle to a mechanic and found out the vehicle had bent valves. The repair estimate was too outstanding. I asked the seller if they would help in any way and they said "it is all your problem now." is there any help to my situation?

Crank sensor and timing belt failed.

I am writing this to you because my friend recently had a problem with his eclipse known as "crank walk" ever since the 2nd generation (95-99) turbo eclipse and talons came out they have been with faulty crankshafts. The cranks eventually were out the thrust washer and shift to the point that it destoys the crank angle sensor, shutting off the motor. Mitsubishi is aware of the problem. Its their fault. The vehicles are bad from the factory but yet my friend has been denied a warranty claim because he made a few unrealted performance modifications. Please, i urge you to force mitsubishi to recall the cars with these bad cranks before someone motor shuts off and an accident is caused. You know how bad mitz is with recalls as with the leaky transfer case. Please check this website. Http://www.roadraceengineering.com/walkingcrankshaft.htm for other peoples expereiences with crankwalk failures. Although i have a 92 awd talon myself (with a leaking transfer case) i have witness three of my friends suffer crankwalk failures. Of them only one was able to get his dealer to cover them. Please investigate this before someone's car shuts off while they are driving and an accident is caused. All three of my friends escaped injury but who know when someone else wont be so lucky. Thank you.

Defective oil filter installed, causing engine to lock up/lose oil.

During routine oil change mechanic found a oil leak on head gasket. Vehicle not repaired at this time.

The crankshaft thrust bearing becomes severly worn due to a *known* design flaw in the oiling system (manufacturer is aware of the design flaw as evidenced by the tsb's sent to its dealers regarding the issue).this wear eventually causes excessive lateral play in the crankshaft which damages the crankshaft position sensor mounted externally to the engine block (this failure has been known to occur as early as 10,000 miles on the odometer or as late as 100,000 miles).this will, without warning, kill the engine.on an expressway doing 70mph, it's a difficult and dangerous task to negotiate 4 lanes of traffic doing half the posted speed limit in a car coasting on its own dead weight with no power-assisted brakes or steering (i've heard of more than one instance where the failure caused an engine fire).this problem only affects the *turbo* engine designated "mitsubishi 4g63 2.0l turbo" in the eagle talon and mitsubishi eclipse manufactured during and after the 1995 model year.i know of 3 other turbo talon/eclipse owners in the oklahoma city area alone that have had their car just *die* while driving.some have had the problem "fixed" under warranty only to have the problem return after the warrenty had expired.the failure rate is pretty much 100% and *will* happen to *every* 4g63 equipped talon and eclipse made during and after the 1995 model year eventually.unfortunatly, the number of talon's and eclipse's originally equipped with the optional turbo engine is a tenth the number equipped with the base model engine manufactured by daimler chrysler which does not exhibit this problem.that, along with the unreported warrenty repairs, false accusations by dealers that owners have "neglected" their vehicles, and seemingly wide variation on the mileage that is accrued before the failure occurs has made it difficult to prove that this problem is widespread, is a design flaw, and poses a serious safety issue.

The cylinder head gasket was leaking on to the manifold and could have caused a fire if not taken care of.estimate at the dealer was for approx. $1,000.mechanic at a local garage said he has replaced many on this motor for chrysler and mitsubishi.apparently chrysler also has redesigned the gasket 3 times in order to correct the defect.i believe this should be a recall because of the danger of fire and the original design defect.

Had to replace engine turbo-charger twice, headgasket once and engine blewout.

Engine block replaced due to broken rod.

"crank walk".

Engine cylinder head failure.

Engine noise.

Consumer states while traveling at 65 mph, vehicle suddenly started to slow down.consumer stateedhad to pull car over.consumer feels lucky that vehicle was not on a highway.please provide any further information.

Relating to the engine:mainbearing problem, this is the third car of this type i have owned (all vins and reciepts available) that this has happened to. It is referredd to by many as "crankwalk". The oil pressure test show a normal pressure, yet the #4 bearing has been deprived of oil and seems to grind the bearing down slowly until there is so much excessive clearence that the piston starts hitting the cylinder head and destroys the entire engine assemblyl. I have read online posts at http://www.dsm.org from hundreds, if not thousands, of owners of this same car and its twin - the mitsubishi eclipse gsx/gs-t - about this same problem and wonder why if there is so many reports of this happening, why have they not been recalled.

Vehicle keeps stalling when coming to a stop or slowing down to make a turn, causing safety hazard.

After taking the car to a mechanic and researching the problem on the internet it has become evident that i have what is nicknamed or called "crankwalk". This is an issue that results from the crankshaft or thrust bearings allowing the crankshaft to move freely. This movement allows the crankshaft to move, which wears a grove into the engine block and or allows the crankshaft to hit the crank-angle sensor and break it, both of which resulting in a total loss of the engine block. I am extremely disappointed that mitsubishi and chrysler have not come forward with this manufacturing flaw. Mitsubishi has said that this is a common problem but has not made any reparations to the owners of these vehicles. I am being told that there is a class action lawsuit being put together as a type this, but i am hoping that the manufacturer will make things right with me and replace my engine block at their cost. Thank you for the space with which i am expressing my displeasure. The result of this and my discussion with the manufacturer directly, will decide if i or anyone else in my family will ever purchase a chrysler or mistubishi product ever again.

Consumer states that while driving vehicle will stall, the vehicle has been serviced numerous times. Cannot locate problem.nlm

Engine bearings were not recieving oil. Engine was rebuilt with new oem crankshaft, bearings, pistons, rods, and cylinder head. Not even a month later the same exact problem happens again. Engine was inspected and found to be free from blockage and debris. Oil pump was working as specified. No cause could be found as to why bearings were not recieving oil. Bearings were found to have excessive clearence that resultedd in the piston beening able to physically hit the cylinder head leaving extensive damage to the cylinder head, requiring the entire engine to be replaced. When i contacted daimlerchrysler and my dealer, i was told that this was not a common occurance so there was no recall on it. However, i have discovered on websites such as www.dsm.org that this is a common occurance with this particular model.

I have had numerous problems with my vehicle, many of which i did not mention.most of the complaints i have made, have never been taken care of and today the problems still exist.i have taken my vehicle for repairs on several occasions for a rotten egg smell coming from exhaust along with the check engine light coming on.my car continues to fail smog every year, and this year i have been unable to register my vehicle as a result.i now have numerous registration tickets, which i am paying fines on with all attempts to make the corrections, with no luck.

Vehicle started leaking gas between the connection of the fuel line and fuel tank and caught fire.previous work had been done on the vehicle to correct a fuel leak under a recall.

The vehicle smells of gas. Manufacturer states that the vehicle is not included in the recall.

While driving vehicle was smoking.consumer pulled over and noticed that the back of the vehicle was on fire.a few minutes later the vehicle blew up.the vehicle was still under warranty but the warranty company claimed they were not liable.the consumer did some research and found that the vehicle had fuel system problem.the dealer was contacted and they stated that the recall had been done on 8/98 but they refused to give the consumer any documentation.

I have reason to beleve that my fuel system recall was not done/ or not done right. I have read the hole report about it, and in the report it says that the alignment marks must remain lined up before, durning and after installing the pump and gauge unit. Do not allow the pump or gauge unit to rotate during or after installation into the tank, resulting in inaccurate fuel gauge reading, which would require this repair to be repeated. Now my problem is, that when my says its on 3/4 tank it is empty, i get a fuel light and my car sputters and fuel cut off happens. I almost stalled on 220, doing about 65mph. That would not of been good. I dont know if this was done or done incorrectly but i would like to have it checked out, now dsc says i should't worry about it.

Computer control modulewas causingvehicle to stall. Also causedfuel pump to short out.the consumer says the vehicle had severalrecalls and still experiencing the computer failure.

While driving would smell strong fuel odor.then, when stopping found out that fuel had been leaking until emptying half of fuel tank.took vehicle to dealer, and techniciansaid thatthe causewas a rubber fuel line that busted.

While the vehicle was parked in the driveway it caught on fire in the engine compartment. Owner was able to put out fire within a few seconds. Owner also replaced the fuel filter line. Part number mr126409.

Fuel leak from the sending unit of the gas tank, replaced sending unit and gas tank.ttair conditioner failed on 4 separate occasions.

The consumer first received a recall letter from the manufacturer.the letter was about a repairs on the fuel tank. Since the consumer received the letter she had taken the vehicle three times to dealer, one of those times that fuel was spilling from the tank, the consumer took vehicle back to dealer. But now she said there is very strong smell of fuel. Somethingelse, dealer sprayed inside of the vehicle that consumer can't stand while driving.consumer states dealer has replaced the tank again and problems still exist, the fumes make consumer sick, she has been to the doctor on several occasions for flu like symptoms and feels this may be related to the fuel smells.

Gas tank failed after recall repair.

Fuel tank inlet hose leaked, when fuel tank was full, gas would leak on the garage floor

Fuel tank gauge failed.

I have a 95 eagle talon tsi and i have a transfer case noise and leaky transfer case it is part of the transfer case recall 780. Chrysler says the recall is one time only everything i have read says safety recalls are for the life of the vehicle. I contacted a dealership and they said there was no such recall. I am afraid it is going to lock up after reading about it online

Transmission locked up, intermittent slippage, gears/transmission unable to engage. Manufacture and dealer fail to cover cost to repair.

Vehicle started without clutch pedal depressed resulting in damage due to accident, manual transmission is not designed to start without depression of clutch pedal.

Speedometer inoperative.

A loud banging noise was heard from the front.consumer restarted vehicle and drove it home.contacted the dealer, andmechanicdetermined thattransfer case and transmission failed, and were replaced twice. Consumer was responsible forpayment of parts and labor.

Vehicle wont go into gear, it drops out in first and secon.consumer has to take off in 3rd gear in order to go.

The transmission failed, the vehicle stalled when stopped, when in gear with the brake engaged, also upon acceleration, the power steering failed, the check engine light was intermittent, the vehicle had bucked when stopped in park, and had continued to idle erratically. Tsb # 18-04-96scc

While driving, the transmission was thrown into another gear unexpectedly.this caused a knocking noise underneath the hood. The driver took the vehicle to the dealer for analysis.the mechanic could not duplicated the problem.

1995 eagle talon tsi automatic transmission went out. Here's how... I wasn't even moving and went into the car wash and nothing happened car didn't even move. It will start in park and neutral. But will not go in gear. No sound was made i was going in the car wash and went to push on the gas and car did not go anywhere. So the employee's there had to push it through the car wash. Will not shift at all. Fluid level is good and clean has been served before but why did it go out. I've check everything. By the way im certified in automotives both gas and diesel. So i know what im talking about. So the recall should cover it.... It better. It would cost me over $1800.00 to fix it.

My wheels locked up while i was doing about 60 mph. It caused me to swerve into the other lane. Thank god there was not any traffic coming or someone could of been hurt. The mechanic said its the transfer case, whichis already got a recall but there is a thing that all talons, eclipses, and lasers get from their years of 90-98, have a thing called crankwalk which can cause accidents also but chrysler or mitsubishi wont take responsibility for.

Either the seals went bad, or the transfer case went bad, either way, that caused a loss in lubrication, which took out my entire transmission.i had to rebuild the whole thing, all of which ended upcosting me $2673.00!!

When driving at 30 mph transmission went out and rpm valves are going up and the veihicle is kicking into gear and shifting very hard.

Thank you.

Shaft bearing dislodged from block.

Transfer case seal leak.

When clutch is depressed, it's much softer than original and metal-scratching noise comes from pulley side of engine. Sometimes clutch stays depressed after lifting left foot. Sometimes engine stalls in stop when clutch is depressed. The issue is when clutch is depressed, it puts a force on the the flywheel which moves the crankshaft, hence crank-end play or crankwalk.

Was driving approximately 65mph and slowed down to approximately 30mph when heard noises like gun shots.the transfer case locked up. Vehicle was dragged onto the tow truck, towed to dayton hudson dealership of south brunswick new jersey. Was told that the transfer case was welded to the transmission andboth needed to be replaced. Driving home from work one day when i made a left turn my rpm's went down from about 3000 to 1400 and i had problems engaging the clutch. When i got home, i went online and started my research on my vehicle. I found out that i could possibly be the crank pulley. My vehicle is 15 years old and i know that, but when i research the recalls on it, there were 14 safety recalls. While i don't want the car to lock up on me driving at highway speeds i have to fix that but in this day and age, how am i suppose to pay for all the defects? i certainly can't afford all the repairs and living in a rural area where i have no co-workers living by me how do i do the repairs and stay without a car and keep my job. I did what i thought almost everyone does and checked a carfax report but that doesn't shoe the recalls. I wish i was aware of that but now i feel like i'm driving a timebomb waiting for something to happen. Do any dealerships see this and fix them after 10 + years just for someone's safety? i'm a single dad and can't afford to lose my job or fix the car but people should be more aware of these things instead of just seeing carfax commercials. Please advise. Should i contact the insurance carrier now that i know this?

I have had numerous problems with my vehicle, many of which i did not mention.most of the complaints i have made, have never been taken care of and today the problems still exist.i have taken my vehicle for repairs on several occasions for a rotten egg smell coming from exhaust along with the check engine light coming on.my car continues to fail smog every year, and this year i have been unable to register my vehicle as a result.i now have numerous registration tickets, which i am paying fines on with all attempts to make the corrections, with no luck.

The first problem i had was the transmission.it doesn't go into second gear anymore.when you can get it into second it grinds very badly.i don't understand why it would just go out unless defective.so now i have to shift from first to third gear and bypass second gear.the second defect i have found is the wiper washers that are mounted in the hood.they had leaked water down the side of the hood which resulted in runing the paint.

When going into gear rear wheel separated from vehicle. Cause unknown. Please describe.

My transfer case on my 95 eagle talon tsi awd locked up on me back in july of 05, there was a safety recall on it and it was replaced for free. In feb 06 the transfer case locked up again not even 7 months after having the new one put on. Chrysler don't know if there going to replace it again free of charge because they said they already did it once. Basically when a car gets recalled it means there supposed to fix the part that's defective and i shouldn't have to worry about it again. They replaced a bad, leaky transfer case with a bad leaky transfer case and there saying that its fixed. Two wrongs don't make a right. Why should i pay 2700.00 dollars for a new transfer case that's gonna lock up on me again? replacing a dangerous part with the same identical dangerous part is not recalling a vehicle. I tried talking to chrysler and they were not polite and just rude about my concern.

Im not sure of the date of incident sop i entered a generic date.i sold the vehicle over a year ago but i forgot to submit this investigation to your dept. Please look into this because there mechanics don't know what's going on and the "investigations specialist" did not even look at the car because it was not convenient for him he stated. I could of died if this happened at an intersection where i was crossing i could of killed someone or myself.or if i was traveling faster than 10-15 mph it could of been much more serious than what it was. Property damaged wasoccurred only on my car. The crash was not with another vehicle but me sliding into a curb. Another dealer fixed the damage free of charge but i had to fight chrysler to pay for my broken fog light.*nlm

I own a 1995 eagle talon which has a safety recall, nhtsa campaign number: 00v421002. I was not notified of the recall by the manufacturer.the recall was discovered when the lower ball joint seperated as i was driving the vehicle.fortunatley there was no accident.the dealer will not replace the right broken ball joint with the newly designed lateral arm ball joint free of charge.the ball joint i have referred to is the original equipment which was installed on the vehicle at the time of delivery to the first purchaser.the dealership also stated that the left ball joint is also defective and unsafe and needs to be replaced with the newly designed lateral arm ball joint.their reason for not complying with the recall free of charge is that the vehicle had been lowered.the lowering of the vehicle did not involve the replacement or alterations made on the ball joint lateral arm in any way and does not make the vehicle more difficult to repair.it does not change the fact that the lower lateral arm ball joint is defective and unsafe. The manufacturer did not comply with federal regulation 49 cfr part 577 requiring notification to purchasers of safety recalls.(chrysler has my owner information on file.) title 49 of the uscstatesthe manufacturer is responsible to replace free of charge, any safety- related defect of an item of original equipment.thank you.*la

The dealership only replaced the right side ball joint underrecall 00 v 421 002, but the left ball joint also failed.while in motion the ball joint separated.the left front tire locked up, the axle broke, and the vehicle skidded into a ditch.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed the recall (#00v421002) before, where they only replaced the right ball joint.the dealers negligence was the cause of the problem. *scc

The contact owns a 1995 eagle talon.while driving 10 mph, the front driver side of the vehicle dropped to the ground.the mechanic stated that the driver side control arm and ball joint failed.the mechanic made the replacement.approximately three months later, the contact heard a screeching noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle.the mechanic stated that the front passenger side control arm and ball joint should be replaced.as of november 13, 2007, the mechanic had not repaired the vehicle.there is a recall for the suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint (nhtsa campaign id number 00v421002); however, the dealer stated that the recall work had already been performed.the failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 95,895.

Prior to recall, while making a turn, the lower arm broke, causing the passenger side of the car to fall to the ground, consumer is requesting reimbursement for the repairs due to the occurence happening prior.*yd

My complaint is in regards to a serious defect/crash hazard in suspension: front:control arm: lower ball joint defect that has been recalled (id 00v421002, dec 15, 2000) last week my daughter had just got off the interstate and her right front ball joint broke completely off with no warning or sign of wear.this also caused the axle to pull away completely.i got the car fixed, and believe it or not the left side let go today, again just as she got off the interstate on her way home from school.a year ago or so we had them checked because of the recall and they said they were ok.i think they were defective from the start.ball joints should not have a traumatic failure like this with no warning or sign of wear.this is a serious problem which needs to be taken care of immediately before some one gets hurt.i also feel that the manufacture should be responsible for my costs which have now totaled about $800.please help me in this matter and let me know who else i should be talking to.i am not going to let this one slide by.

The top of my shock towers in my engine compartment are almost rusted. It is beginning to crack and chip along the outside edge. If i pushed hard enough i could put my finger thru it. If it continues at this pace my vehicle will be unsafe to drive within a year. You can also see it begining to bow inward making me feel unsafe to drive my vehicle.

I want to complain about the unreasonable damage due to exterior rust forming in a stress-bearing area of my 1995 eagle talon.specifically, the right-front mounting points for the strut and upper 'a' arm have rusted into non-existence.there is very little rust on other parts of the automobile.

I have had both the left and right spindle (knuckle assy) wear out on my car.after talking to dealer this is not an uncommon event. After looking at the spindle it looks to me that if this thing breaks while i'm driving there is going to be some sort of lose of control.while driving i have even noticed that my car would start to drift out of the lane because of the lose spindle.

Gas pedal stuck several times, causing transmission failure due to car being stopped with gear.

Vehicle does not allow proper turns, makes popping noises, tried changing tires. Dealer contacted, and repairs were made at owner expense, no recalls, problem still exists. The dealer replaced lower control arm and ball joint. Gas pedal was stuck.window on passenger side keeps coming off track three times.

Failure of the accelerator cable, the throttle cable sticks, causing the vehicle to suddenly accelerate.

Power windows would not operate for two minutes after car was started switch was replaced twice. Also, passenger's side seat belt becomes too tight and both sides have a hard time locking.

Windsheild wipers do not work. When turned on they blow a fuse. Please describe details.

Windshield fluid dispenser failed.

He was traveling about 25mph on a street, came to a sudden stop, and driver's side wheel fell off.there was no prior warning.
