I purchased a new 2007 ducati gt1000 motorcycle in longwood, florida in july 2006.since that time it has been back to the dealership twice to fix an engine idle problem; the vehicle will not idle correctly and dies when stopping at stop signs and traffic lights, forcing a re-start.this is very dangerous.the first time the vehicle was in for this issue was april 2007 for three (3) weeks.at that time, the shop replaced the "stepper" motor and it ran adequately for a few months.in september, the symptoms returned and worsened.i brought the vehicle back to the dealership on november 9.it is now four weeks later.in the interim, the shop ordered and replaced two ecu units (a euro version was said to have worked fine, but was not to be used in the usa and so was returned), a second "stepper" motor which was known to be good, and today i was informed they are going to replace "throttle bodies" which have to be ordered.i believe this is a major manufacturing issue, and it has been reported on various websites that the only real way to "cure" the problem is to purchase an after-market exhaust system with a new "open circuit" ecu that can tweaked.the factory ecu is supposedly a "closed circuit" ecu and not amenable to adjustment.this is unacceptable and a life threatening hazard.ducati should either provide an immediate fix and extend the warranty for the period of time the vehicle has been in the shop, or do a full re-purchase.

Purchased a 2007 ducati sport classic in early 2008. After 4 months of riding and taking good care of the bike, the tank started to get deformed and spread tremendously. Luckily, the dealership changed it automatically. A year later, the replacement tank got deformed as well to the point that it was pretty dangerous. The tank is attached to the bike with 3 points. The first one is below the seat, and the other two are on each side of the tank. When the replacement tank spread, the two side connections between the tank and the bike were loose, which meant that the tank was still attached at one point. Having said that, it seemed to be very dangerous as it could have gotten loose while riding, and probably would have caused a catastrophe. Anyway, the tank was replaced by the dealership again, probably with the same unsolved tank problem.

1) gas tank warping due to tank material reaction to fuel with ethanol (the state in which i live, and many others, require 10% ethanol). Most eu countries where the bike is from have no ethanol in their gas. 2) tank warping may cause tank to come loose from holding brackets3) tank was replaced with new tank though unsure if problem with ethanol reaction was corrected, as i have talked with multiple people who have had as many as 3 tanks replaced due to the same problem.

Fuel tank spreading causes lack of security.

2007 ducati sport classic 1000 biposto.the gas tank on my motorcycle has become deformed and misshapen.the deforming of the gas tank has resulted in the tank falling off it's mounting points on the frame and allowing the tank to detach from the motorcycle in the front.it is also distorted enough that the right handlebar switch assembly almost contacts the gas tank when turned to the full right stop.the steering stops have not been adjusted since new and are in the same position as the left stops.i have already had the gas tank replaced once on my motorcycle due to this exact same problem.i have submitted another warranty claim with ducati but as of this point it has been 2 months and they continue to deny a repair for my motorcycle.my local dealer claims ducati is stalling in replying to the problem and even when contacted directly, ducati customer service is reluctant to warranty their product.

The fuel tank on my 2007 ducati sport classic 1000 has spread apart and no longer rests in the mounting points attached to the frame.i can physically move the tank up and down at least four or five inches and my concern is that in the event of an accident, the tank will detach from the motorcycle.my dealer claims they will "shim" the tank under warranty to make it fit, however, i'm not convinced that this will fix the problem, properly.

Ducati 2007 gt1000 motorcycle plastic fuel tank is softening and spreading which cause the tank to not be supported by the front tank brackets.

The contact owns a 2007 ducati sport classic 1000 motorcycle.while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.also, the fuel tank was abnormally stretched due to fuel line tension.the dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 07v017000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings).the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who referred the contact to an authorized dealer for service.no repairs were performed.the current and failure mileages were 3,600.

Ducati sport 1000 fuel tank was loose upon delivery of new motorcycle. This seems to be a common problem related to this series of motorcycles. The fuel tank is held on by two rubber mounts at the front, and a single bolt at the rear of the assembly. In this case, the tank had spread about one inch and no longer would secure to the front mounts safely. The dealer replaced the tank on inspection, but i was encouraged by the community to file a report nonetheless.

2007 ducati gt sport classic fuel tank spreading , tank deforming has caused the tank to move off the frame mounts. Tank is no longer secure to frame causing the potential for injury and accident.

Fuel tank on 2007 ducati gt 1000 spreads and comes loose from forward tank mounts.

The plastic fuel tank on my motorcycle is warping out of shape.the problem has simply developed since i purchased the bike last year--i've never had an accident, dropped the bike, etc.my research suggests that the warping problem may be caused by the tank material (plastic) reacting to the ethanol in gasoline.i also understand that the problem affects several different models of ducati motorcycles dating back approximately 5 years.ducati has replaced some defective tanks only to have the replacements fail as well.i've read several accounts of ducati tanks expanding to the point where they come loose from their mounting brackets.so far, mine has only warped out of shape, although it appears to be getting worse over time.this certainly presents a safety risk.

I own a 2007 ducati gt1000.there is apparently a design flaw with the plastic composite gas tank in which the front bottom of the tank spreads out over time causing the front tank pegs to lose contact with the retaining brackets connected to the motorcycle frame.the result is that the tank is only secured to the frame by a single bolt at the rear of the tank.this could easily snap off in the event of a crash spilling fuel and possibly causing a fire.ducati has agreed to replace the tank as the motorcycle is still under warranty.however, since this is a design flaw with the material, this issue will continue to recur.

The gas tank on my 2007 ducati gt 1000 sport classic is spreading, so much so that extra shims under the mounting pads can no longer rectify the condition.i am afraid that it will come off while the bike is in use.

Purchased 2007 ducatis1000 new in feb. 2008 from dealership. Sincepurchased fuel tank has been spreading and ineeded to shim tank brackets 1/4" on both sides to securely hold tank in place . Tank also has bubbled on outside underneath paint on upper right corner, i believe from gas fumes penetrating through plastic. I am very concerned about this problem. How far the tank will spread?will it eventually rupture?

I have a 2007 ducati sport classic 1000s with plastic fuel tank.the fuel tank has deformed (spread) to the point that it is possible to lift the front of the fuel tank off the front mounts without removing the rear retaining bolt.the single bolt at the rear of the tank is the only secure mount for the entire tank.i know from other owners that if i get a warranty replacement for the tank that the replacement it is made of the same material and it will only deform again.what's the point of replacing it?

Plastic fuel tank on 2007 ducati sport classic motorcycle is incompatible with fuel. I have had the tank replaced twice since the bike was new and the problem persists with the new replacement tanks. Fuel causes the tanks to deform and leak, creating a very hazardous situation.

Fuel tank distortion, causing tank to loosen from its mounting system.this problem has been a gradual occurrence over time.

Gas tank on '07 ducati gt1000 is spreading apart.tank is made of plastic and over time the tank has spread away from the front mounting brackets.

The tank on my 2007 ducati sport 1000 biposto has spread half an inch on each side of the tank.the rubber part of the mount has extended almost passed the metal bracket, making it loose and extremely unsafe.

Ducati 2007 gt1000 (motorcycle) gas tank has deformed, spreading away from mounting points. Tank is not longer affixed to frame.

Plastic fuel tank spreading becoming loose and not being properly attached to the motorcycle, leaving only one small bolt holding it on. Occurrence, once. Replaced by dealer but spreading again. Dealer says cant guarantee any replacements.

Fuel tank has spread separating it from front mounting brackets. Ducati dealer was advised on march 23, 2010 and has not received a replacement tank from ducati and has not been given an expected delivery date.

Fuel tank is spreading and is now loose on it's mounts. Possible for it to lift at the front of the tank. This is unsafe as it could come loose while driving/riding and cause a serious accident or loss of control. Also poses a risk of having fuel leaking either whileriding or parked which i couldbe fined for. This is a defect that is just being patched up and not rectified by ducati. Numerous attempts have been made to have this problem solved by myself and others with the same problem. Leaking fuel is also a serious environmental issue as well.

I own a 2007 ducati gt1000 motorcycle. The fuel tank is made of plastic and apparently is being damaged by the ethanol fuel. It has deformed to the point where the front mounts will not engage the mounting brackets on the frame. In my opinion this creates an unsafe condition that could result in the tank coming off in an accident and causing a fire. Ducati is aware of the problem but has done nothing to correct it, other than replace tanks under warranty for some owners. The replacement tanks have the same problem and will fail in the same manner. My dealer did not want to file a warranty claim and shimmied one of the mounts instead, which is only a temporary solution. The warranty has now expired on my motorcycle.i feel this is a defective design that should be corrected by a recall and replacement of the fuel tank with one that is compatible with ethanol fuel.

There has been a slow spreading of the gas tank on my ducat motorcycle (2007 sport 1000). The tank has spread so much it no longer sits on the fuel tank brackets and easily moves back and forth. In the event of a crash it could easily become dislodged. As of today no corrective action has been taken by my dealer.

The fuel tank on my motorcycle has spread and distorted enough that it has fallen off the frame of the motorcycle.while riding the motorcycle at normal highway speed, wind will actually lift the fuel tank up and the rider must hold it in place so it does not separate completely from the vehicle.i was in fear for my safety when riding my motorcycle even though the dealer insists that ducati sees this as a normal condition.i pushed the issue with the dealer and they have refused my latest request for a replacement fuel tank under warranty (good faith or otherwise).the new repair provided was to install a larger bracket on the frame of the motorcycle to try and retain the defective tank.this does not solve the original issue of a poorly manufactured and faulty fuel tank on the vehicle.

Fuel tank spreading and deforming. Fuel tank no longer connected to motorcycle frame. Fuel tank is loose and lifts off of bike when riding over bumps.

Fuel tank is spreading and is now loose on it's mounts. Possible for it to lift at the front of the tank.

I have a ducati sport classic gt1000 motorcycle with a plastic fuel tank.the fuel tank will spread and actually separate itself from the frame mounts.my motorcycle is out of the standard manufacturer's warranty, so they will do nothing to cover the issue with the fuel tank.

Gas tank deformed and was loose.had it replaced once by the dealer.now two years later the replaced tank is deformed and will be loose.

Gas tank on 2007 ducati gt 1000 motorcycle is deformed and no longer stays on its mounts.

2007 ducati sport classic 1000. Tank was replaced from previous complaint about it being loose and spreading (odi number 10258487). Replacement tank has failed in the same manner in under two months. Will seek replacement again.

Vehicle: 2007 ducati gt1000the plastic fuel tank has distorted (i.e., spread) so that the forward attachment points no longer interlock. The tank is thus only held in place by a single bolt in the very rear. Pressure on the gas tank could thus easily result in a separation of the tank from the vehicle.

Gas tank on motorcycle is losing its shape and won't stay in holder to keep tank in place.

1.normal use of gas tank.2.gas tank has distorted, separating from it's mounts and is thus not attached at the front of the motorcycle.3.nothing has been done to repair it.

Plastic fuel tank spreads at front mounts and becomes loose and easily dislodges. This can occur at anytime. Shims are added to correct the failure but tank may continue to spread.

Fuel tank had blistered, replaced, blistered and buckled again, replaced.the bike is now off warranty, and i assume it's only a question of time before the tank goes again.

I have a 07 ducati sports classic and my plastic fuel tank is expanding, took it to the dealer and they replaced with the same defected tank. All i can do now isfile this complaint and register the problem.

The "plastic" fuel tank expands over time allowing release of the front mounting points. This leaves only one mounting point at the rear of the fuel tank.

Motorcycle fuel tank is spreading on its mounts; i.e., it is becoming looser and presents a safety hazard in that it may separate from its mountings altogether in the near future.there were no specific incidents occurring to cause this, as it appears to be a faulty design.

I have a ducati motorcycle that has a defective gas tank.it has deformed over time to the point that it has fallen off it's mounts.the plastic gas tank was replaced with the exact same part under warranty.the replacement is made out of the same materials as the original.my dealer informed me that thereplacement part will deform like the original. If the tank falls off it could create a fuel spill, fire, or even death.

1- motorcycle under normal usage & conditions, purchased new from dealer.2- after 14 months of operation, a gas tank deformation (spreading) appeared, possibly from tank material reaction to contact with gasoline.3- the gas tank has been replaced under warranty by dealer, and sent back to the manufacturer.it seems manufacturer is aware of the defect and is willing to cover while vehicle is under warranty, but once the factory warranty expires, the manufacturer refuses to replace the defective part free of charge.this is a common problem on this particular model and manufacturer should address the issue and recall all potentially defective parts with new ones which are free of defects.

The plastic gas tank on my motorcycle has over time expanded and distorted enough that it had fallen off of the mounting points on the frame of my vehicle and was no longer secure to the motorcycle.this caused the bike to become unrideable due to the fear of the gas tank falling off or interfering with the handlebars.

I have purchase a 2007 ducati sport classic 1000 1 and 1/2 years ago and recently found my gas tank is spreading apart. The gas tank has spread far enough where there is nothing holding the tank, i can lift the tank up away. I am very concern of the safety. There is a website people with a similar bike post there complain http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?s=be1a4d887f06512308d4a640c94c82e4&t=55155.

Gas tank is defective and already needed to be replaced.it was replaced with the same exact tank and i expect it to fail and hopefully not while i am on the highway.

I own a 2007 ducati sport classic. This bike has a well known design issue that causes the gas tank to "spread". Ducati has been replacing them under warranty, but the replacement has the same flawed design, and will fail also. My warranty is still in effect and the dealer just ordered my replacement tank, but i am concerned that when this next one spreads my warranty will be null.

Deformation of plastic gas tank on ducati motorcycle so that the front mounting brackets no longer hold the tank in place.

Plastic fuel tank on ducati motorcycle deforming to the point where it no longer fits into its mounting brackets and blocks the controls from full range of movement.

Fuel tank expands and deforms with the presence of fuel in the tank.the expansion causes the tank unseat from the mounting brackets.the result is that the tank may fall of the bike. The possibility of an unsafe condition and catastrophic failure of the fuel system is high. Straps have been placed on fuel tank in order to keep the tank from falling off.

Fuel tank has spread approximately 1" and no longer fits the mounting points.tank is loose and would separate from the frame in an accident.

Fuel tank is spreading on the mounts and is now loose. I am able to lift off the tank by hand when it should be secure.

Motorcycle polycarbonate (plastic) fuel tank made of materials that are spreading and sagging away from vehicle mounts.fuel tank sags far enough away from mounts to potentially come loose from vehicle and cause fuel tank and fuel to come loose in the event of a fall from the machine.manufacturer has not issued recall for problem that has been occurring for three years. Customers are given arbitrary replacement of fuel tanks under warranty. Replace fuel tanks have identical defect. Vehicles no longer covered by manufacturer warranty are no provided any option for unsafe fuel tank on motor vehicle. Various stop gap adjustments can be made to vehicle by customers but the continual degradation of polycarbonate fuel tank may continue. Filing this complaint upon purchase of machine no longer covered by manufacturer warranty.

Ducati sportclassic plastic gas tank keep expanding and these cause the unlatching and become loose.

Fuel tank (plastic) has swollen ond no longer attaches to the frame of the motorcycle on the sides. Tank may come off in an accident or perhaps riding. This could be very serious with fire, injury, loss of control.

Fuel tank deforms over time, causing it to lift out of the front brackets. The tank is then loose and moves considerably under hand pressure, would probably come off completely in the event of an accident. Dealer has replaced tank once, the new one is already showing the same problems, so clearly the design or manufacture of the tank is to blame.

The gas tank on ducati sport classic motorcycles spreads side to side to the point that the rubber polks on the sides of the poly carbonate tank are no longer in the metal tangs on the front of the frame. This in effect releases the front of the tank allowing it to "flop around". At this point the tank is held on by one bolt on the rear of the tank. Ducati's response is to replace the tank with exactly the same tank, which again spreads in the same way. I am awaiting my third tank currently.

Fuel tank on motorcycle distorting so that the tank is no longer secured to the frame of the motorcycle.

1. I noticed dimples on the top of my gas tank and then checked the mounting brackets for the gas tank. The gas tank could be pulled completely off the motorcycle without much effort.2. This is a failure that cannot rectify itself and slowly degrades more and more.3. The motorcycle was taken into a ducati service shop and they "shimmed" the gas tank bracket to prevent it from being able to remove it completely. The tank was still loose, but could not be removed completely. Since the shimming of the brackets, the tank has warped and spread further and is looser than when originally shimmed. This causes a shaking of the gas tank at normal operating speed when my leg comes in contact with the gas tank.

Gas tank on a 2007 ducati sport classic 1000 motorcycle.the tank has spread and warped which has caused it to come loose on the frame of the bike and become deformed.because the tank does not fit properly it is possible for the tank to come off while riding.i have had a dealer "shim" the tank so it is more secure but they told me there is no guarantee that the tank won't get worse and require another "shim" to keep it in place. In researching this issue on-line i have discovered this issue is prevalent with these motorcycles.

2007 ducati sport 1000 motorcycle.

2007 ducati sport 1000s - gas tank has been deformed. It no longer sits properly in the mounting points on the side. It has expanded beyond the point of sitting properly in the mounting points in the front. The tank now rests unsecured on the frame and will shift and teeter from side to side while the bike is in motion.

The stock plastic gas tank expanded and it comes out of it's intended position.

It appears as though the polycarbonate fuel tank on the motorcycle has sagged or spread, making the front of the tank loose.when the tank spread, the front grommets no longer make contact with the tank, making it loose.this poses a serious safety hazard.this failure did not happen all at once, but over time.

The fuel tank of my ducati 2007 gt1000 is spreading.the dealer extended the bracket out to hold it in place however i think this is a dangerous and temporary remedy as the tank is continuing to spread.i do not want to see the tank cracks and start a fire causing harm to myself and other.

Spreading and bubbling issues in my gas tank.
