The gas tank on my 2006 ducati monster s2r has expanded in both width and length. The larger dimensions now allow the handlebars to hit the tank which could cause a loss of control/crash. Another worrisome issue with an ever-expanding plastic gas tank is the fact that it sits in your lap while riding. Not really where i would want a sudden expulsion of flammable liquid onto a hot engine when the tank splits open.

2006 ducati monster s2r gas tank is expanding and flexing.eventual failure would lead to fuel leaking onto hot engine and exhaust parts.

Recently found that my fuel tank on my 2006 ducati monster s2r 800 motorcycle has expanded and is becoming deformed causing contact between latch and ignition switch. Also found that the tank no longer properly rests on the frame.

Vehicle: 2006ducati monster s2r 1000(not listed in the following list). Within the past 6 months, the stock plastic tank on my motorcycle is expanding and deforming. The tank no longer sits correctly on the frame, the handle bars hit the tank preventing full range of motion. Also the hold-down latch is pressed against the ignition switch preventing proper removal to access the under tank components, battery, air filter.i have not modified my motorcycle, nor it's fuel system or fuel pump, located inside the tank.i took my bike to an authorized dealer who submitted a claim to ducati north america, and was denied a replacement. No reason was given. I have this documented on a service receipt.i am concerned about the safety of the bike. Not only does the handle bars prevent proper turning radius, but the lock can no longer engage. Furthermore, the fuel pump flange is located directly above an exhaust header, should the warpage break the seal around the pump flange, gasoline would land on the hot pipe.

Plastic gas tank expanding on ducati monster s2r1000.tank has not ruptured or failed yet, but continued expansion could cause damage.

Plastic fuel tank swelling.

I own a 2006 ducati monster s2r-1000 (purchased new 11/2006), and it has a plastic gas tank that has become distorted from its original shape.my fuel tank has become distorted on the left/ right sides of the tank in the area where my knees touch the tank. There is some type of demformation around the gas cap, which is causing the paint to crack.the rubber pucks, which are on the bottom of the tank, support the tank on the frame.the pucks no longer sit correctly on the frame, and the tank does not sit securely on the frame.

Fuel tank distortion on my 06 ducati s2r.

I have a 2006 ducati monster s2r1000 with approximately 2500 miles on it.my motorcycle has a plastic gas tank which has begun to expand.the outside dimensions of the tank have increased and it now does not sit correctly in the frame, the handlebars hit it on turning, and it presses against the ignition switch. Previously it opened and closed without problems, now i have to wedge it against the ignition switch to close it.the rubber mounts no longer sit on the frame.i have made no modifications to the fuel tank or fuel pump.the bike is completely stock.i am very concerned as to the safety of this motorcycle now.the tank's swelling has made it so the handlebars do not turn correctly.if the tank swells enough, it will split open and i am concerned this will happen while i am riding.as well i fear this may be a fire hazard as gas could spill out while riding.i asked the local ducati dealer about the problem and they informed me that the only way that they could replace or look at is if has already started to leak fuel, which mine has not yet.

The plastic gas tank on my motorcycle is swelling, causing it to not fit properly on the frame anymore. It is also interfering with the ignition switch and tank latch mechanism. There is also cosmetic damage (ripples) on the side of the tank. Am worried that tank will eventually fail or leak.

My motorcycle has a plastic gas tank which has begun to expand. The outside dimensions of the tank have increased and it now does not sit correctly in the frame, the handlebars nearly hit it on turning, and it nearly presses against the ignition switch. The rubber mounts no longer sit on the frame - they each sit out 1/4 to 1/2".i have not significantly modified my motorcycle except for an aftermarket exhaust and some cosmetic changes. I have made no modifications to the fuel tank or fuel pump.i took the bike to the dealer who adjusted the tank and thought it was simply out of adjustment.i am very concerned as to the safety of this motorcycle now.
