June 15, 2017 about 1400est @ spartanburg, sc-parking lot of cummins atlantic electronic dash went into "christmas tree" mode of random flashing lights, fans on, emergency flashers on, engine shut down and no re-start.turns out to be a dealer and manufacturer acknowledged problem with ducati canbus system acknowledged by ducati to dealers in a bulletin dated 3november 2016 with orders to install a preventive device in all stock of years 2013-2015 but with instructions to take no active outreach to existing ownersin order to install the same preventive device but to wait until the owner contacts the dealer for service or canbus failure.the 3nov17 dealer bulletin claims engine performance is not affected by the christmas tree phenomenon which apparently signifies that the canbus has been destroyed. This instance occurred at about 10mph in the parking lot of the business noted.internet research immediately revealed extensive discussion by ducati owners of this issue, with multiple failures related.ducati refuses to acknowledge that engine shut down, impairment of lighting, compromise of traction control including abs and other electronic functions controlled and monitored by the canbus system represents any safety issues for operators or passengers of these vehicles.ducati quietly replaces destroyed dashboards containing the central canbus electronics.however, at least one dealer acknowledges that this is a common failure issue for all ducatis using canbus, which apparently started in 2002. Written documentation is in my possession and other affected owners are available to nhtsa for its review.while replacing failed units, ducati remains mute and unresponsive to vehicle owners and operators on the safety subject.evidence in the form of failed canbus units are apparently returned to ducati and even possibly re-used as new after repair.
