The contact owns a 2006 ducati multistrada 620 motorcycle. The contact stated that gasoline fuel was leaking from under the seat. The dealer was contacted and advised him to remove the tank and bring it in for inspection. The tank was removed and the contact discovered that the fuel tank was fractured. The dealer advised that the warranty for the vehicle was expired and would not be able to assist. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was approximately 5,200.

Ducati gas tank expanded to the point that it can no longer be removed from the vehicle to service it.apparently a common problem and will eventually lead to a leak around the fuel pump housing.potential fire/safety issue when that happens.have read that ethanol in the gas is the cause of the deformation of the tank.

My motorcycle has a plastic gas tank which has begun to expand.the outside dimensions of the tank have increased and it now does not sit correctly in the frame, the handlebars hit it on turning, and it presses against the ignition switch. Previously it opened and closed without problems, now i have to wedge it against the ignition switch to close it.the rubber mounts no longer sit on the frame.

This ducati motorcycle is equipped with a plastic gas tank that deformed leading to leaking at the fuel pump area.leaking of fuel is dangerous due to the proximity of the motorcycle fuel tank to engine exhaust which is hot enough to cause a fire if in contact with fuel.

Fuel tank has expanded and warped.it cannot be removed and reinstalled as required to service motorcycle.dealer has declined to replace tank under warranty.

The composite fuel tank on my 2006 ducati multistrada 620 has warped and become distorted. This is likely due to contamination from ethanol that is blended with unleaded fuels in the united states. The tank has become so warped that fuel actually leaks from around the fuel pump when the motorcycles is filled over half way. This has become a health and safety hazard, as the bike has become unsafe to ride due to the danger of fire/explosion resulting from the warped tank. Ducati na (north america) has not issued an official recall, and my dealer isn't willing to assist. The motorcycle has become unsafe to ride even to the dealership. I have tried to contact ducati multiple times about this issue, and everytime i am told to contact a dealer - a dealer who isn't able to help because ducati won't issues a recall for a widely known problem with fuel tanks. The fuel from the motorcycle has leaked out on the floor of our garage and ruined garden hoses, garage mats, and the motorcycle's tires.

I bought a 06 monster 620 dark back in feb 06. The dealer i bought it from is closed. Had the bike serviced only by the original dealer when it was serviced. The bike has 3600 miles on so i go to work on it to just clean it up and change the oil and i can't get the tank to latch. So i go on line to look for a fix and start finding the issues about the tank expansion.

Plastic tank on ducati s2r 1000 has deformed in such a way that the tank no longer fits on the frame. There are multiple swelling points through out the tank. The tank latch no longer operates as intended and makes it impossible to lift the tank without removing the latch itself. The tank is also applying pressure on the seat causing paint to chip off.please note, the model is not a 620cc motorcycle, it is a 992cc motorcycle. Specifically the s2r1000. However there are very few differences in the model, except the brake size, and the engine size.

Normal operation and storage of the vehicle with no underlying malady, however the fuel tanks has expanded and deformed.

2006 ducati mts 620 began to steadily leak fuel from bottom of fuel tank at the fuel pump flange.this allowed fuel to drip onto hot exhaust, which could have caused a fire.

Potential for fire, even death.fuel tank swelling to the point of leaking gasoline from the fuel pump flange onto the rear tire and exhaust.ducati north america is replacing the tanks only if there is an actual leak.the tanks may start leaking at any time.even when parked in a garage creating a fire hazard in your home or business due to fuel leaking out onto the floor destroying the entire structure that the vehicle is parked in creating massive property damage and possible human lives.many have been replaced due to leakingothers have fuel tanks that are so deformed that you cannot remove them to do routine maintenance as required by ducati with out destroying the tank.

Fuel leaking from fuel pump area due to expanding/warping plastic fuel tank.brand new o-ring gasket plus additional hylomar seal did not help prevent the leak.vehicle is now at manufacturer authorized shop as of 4/10/2010.

Fuel tank distortion from expansion.

Motorcycle gas tank (plastic) is deforming and:a) no longer sits tight to the frame as designed,b) is exerting pressure on ignition, making the tank difficult to latch and unlatch for maintenance.
