The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. While making a right turn, the steering wheel locked without warning and the vehicle crashed into a light pole. The driver had a seizure after the crash and was transported to the hospital for medical attention. Only the front passenger side air bag deployed. A police report was filed, but it was not consistent with the contact's account of what occurred. The vehicle was towed to a repair facility. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or dealer. After ten days, the vehicle was no longer accessible after being towed to a yard. The manufacturer was made aware of the crash months after it happened. The failure mileage was not available.

Hello,my name is [xxx] . I was involved in an motor vehicle accident on august 1 of 2008. I was driving a 2005 dodge stratus. My vehicle collided with another vehicle. My car sustained major front end damage. The damage was so severe my vehicle was totaled by my insurance company. My speed limit on impact was between 35-40 miles an hour. I was shocked my air bags didn't deploy. Luckily, myself and my mother was wearing our safety belts. I feel atthe speed i was driving my air bags should have deployed. I called the manufacturer of the dodge stratus on friday august 8, 2008, still i haven't received a response. Please assist me with this matter. Thank youinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Totaled car not one airbag deployed.

I went and had my children's car seats inspected by our local injury prevention and highway patrol, to make sure they were correctly installed. I have a forward facing convertible car seat that also has the option for a five point harness which i normally used, because my child was not big enough to use the booster yet. This specific seat, i use the latch system. I learned that for my child's weight, they would no longer be able to use the five point harness and need to use the booster seat function with the rear drivers seat belt. When we went to buckle the belt, we noticed that yes, the lap portion had a locking device so it would not slip, however where the shoulder strap attached and came out of the back panel, did not have the safety stop when tugged on quickly. We tried multiple times to see if it would lock (in the case of a collision). It did not. I then tried the rear passengers side with only the same result. Both driver and passenger's in front did work. I did not see any recalls due to this specific concern.

The vehiclewaspurchased in2013 " asis"(used) f romacarlot. There were at least 2 or 3 alignments completed due to repairs on related parts. After each alignment, the steering wheel would turn to an angled position after a few days or a week. When turning the steering wheel to the right or turning it to the right while backing up in reverse, a loud pop can be heard coming from the vehicle. The noisehas always seemed to come from the left side of the car. Everything suggested as repairs has been done. Both ball joints were replaced. All front and back struts were replaced. Also there has been a problem with the suspension causing noise and bouncing while driving.all of this has happened on city streets, driving about 35 mph or much less. A mechanic suggested in 2013 that the car might have an electrical problem but almost everything has worked well for the past 4 years with no problems except for the windshield wiper speed which does not work on the regular back and forth and super fast speed. The wiper switch was replaced which didn't help. A dodge dealership checked it last week and said that the wiper motor works. Only one of many auto repair places tried to charge me for an elec issue.also in 2013, the first car repair shop i took it to did not detect any recalls and they listed a different vin # which is:[xxx], on my paperwork. A dealership told me it was not valid when i contacted it for parts. A different vin # is on the car title which is in my name. Could this car be part of a chop shop scam? i've had a problem trying to find parts that match the color and year especially for an inside door panel. Also i filed police reports because someone has entered the car repeatedly and illegally without forced entry and may have a key. The seller of the car was dishonest when the car was purchased.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

In late july, i was parked in my 2005 dodge stratus rt 2 door coupe with the car still running. I adjusted my steering wheel which in turn caused the car to turn off. Every time i raised my steering wheel, my car would turn off. It didn't matter if the car was moving or not, the car would turn off (the key would stay on). Big safety issue if i wouldn't of noticed until i began driving. I could have lost my power brakes and steering. I took the car to a dodge dealership on 8-7-06. The dealership said that the connector for the ignition switch was broke and they could temporarily fix it. A new connector is being ordered. The dealership said that the connector couldn't have broken without someone being in the steering column previously. I bought this car brand new and to my knowledge, the steering column has never been taken apart. Therefore, i must assume that the connector is either faulty or was broken during the initial installation.

My car is pulling to rightpops every time you moveclickes in turning even in the slites turning shocks are bottoming out every turn cant go over a speed bump with out it hitting hardscared to drive my kids in itplease help happends all time

The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.

Car accelerated on its own. When i let off the brakes it took off very fast and got up to 70 before i had to mash the brakes very hard and pull over and force it into neutral and turn the key to stop the engine. When restarting the engine it continued rev in park and neutral which prevented me from putting it in drive'

My 2005 dodge stratus stalls while i'm driving. It does it out of no where. I was on a busy hwy and it almost cut off. My car sputtered all the way home and then it started driving like nothing ever happen. A day or two later it happens all over again.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus.the contact took her vehicle to have an oil change and was informed that the front head gasket was leaking oil.the vehicle has not yet been taken in for repair.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 64,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while idling, the vehicle stalled without warning.it was maneuvered off the road and restarted.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who could not duplicate the problem.updated 12/5/2006 - the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was pressed.the consumer repeatedly pumped the pedal to get the vehicle to accelerate.the dealer could not duplicate the problem.

I believe that this issue has great potential for a fatality. The problem that dodge/chrysler has is in the 2.4l engines manufactured from 2005 to present. The crankshaft moves inside the engine (endplay) and pushes the front main seal to come out. This spills the entire contents of oil onto the road and covers the bottom of the car. When i had the car towed the shop said it was surprising that the car did not crash fire. Dodge refuses to fix the car, because they say it is no longer under warranty. This is a safety issue and dodge should be forced to issue a recall.

***update on my initial complaint*** mechanics have determined the cause of my non-stop oil leaks/spills is from a moving crankshaft that causes the seal to pop out, and thus, continuous oil spillage. They have attempted to fix this issue multiple times with no luck. It is not fixable.

My 2005 dodge stratus has a problem with the crankshaft that keeps moving, which is causing the crank seal to pop out, so it causes oil to start pouring out. I took it to my local dodge dealer, and they said i need a new engine. I had also took it to local mechanics more then once to try to fix this problem, but the problem doesn't seem fixible. I do believe this is a manufacture problem, and it wasn't cause by us driving this car. My warranty expired in jan/2010.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shut off.the vehicle still had steering and braking ability so the contact pulled to the side of the road.she turned the vehicle completely off and it was able to restart immediately.a couple of miles down the road, the failure kept recurring for the next three hours.she took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not assist because the part needed for inspection was unavailable.the vehicle was towed to another dealer and they kept it for three days.the failure occurred while at the dealer, but they could not provide a failure code.the contact rented a u-haul to have the vehicle towed to the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased; however, they also could not provide a code for the failure.another dealer could not figure out the cause for the sudden malfunction as well.she retrieved the vehicle from the dealer and drove for approximately a month and a half without any failures.the failure has recently recurred and takes place while idling in traffic or driving at various speeds.the vehicle was towed to a sales dealer and they kept it for four days.they could not duplicate the failure.the manufacturer offered no assistance.the state attorney general also offered no assistance because the vehicle was no longer new and did not qualify for the lemon law.the current mileage was approximately 58,000 and failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

December 2010 i noticed a massive oil leak/spill under my car. Took to shop immediately. They took apart timing cover set and did some replacements. Cost approximately $900. A few weeks later, an even bigger oil leak/spill. Took to shop immediately. They replaced some sort of part for free seeing as it was the same/similar issue and i was just recently in there. A couple of weeks later, yet another massive oil leak/spill coming from my car. Took to shop immediately (3rd time in about 6 weeks). Mechanic said oil definitely leaking from engine and there was little to no oil left in the engine. They tell me that they are at a loss. They do not know why this keeps happening. My car has about 75,000 miles on it and i am w/out a car for who knows how long...again. The shop owner says he is working on getting to the bottom of the issue and that he is contacting dealerships in the area and national recall to see if i am the only one. I don't have anymore money and time for this. I need my car for work and other people cant drive me around anymore. On top of that, my landlord says that i may not be getting my deposit back due to the damage the oil coming from my vehicle has done to the ground in our parking garage. Please recall!! i am not the only one this is happening to!

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus.the engine warning light illuminated.when the vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change, the mechanic stated that the seal on the front crank shaft failed and began leaking oil.a replacement seal was placed on the vehicle; however, there was a 1/4 inch movement in the crankshaft and the seal failed again.the timing belt was also replaced.the current and failure mileages were 48,848. Updated 4/2/08 updated 04/02/08

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus.the contact stated that a vehicle two vehicle lengths before him, caused him to slam on the brakes.as a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle.the front of his hood was jammed under the rear of the other vehicle.a passerby informed him that his vehicle was on fire.the fire spread to the other vehicle as well.both vehicles became completely engulfed.the contact was injured.the fire and police departments arrived and filed reports.the manufacturer has not been notified and the vehicle was towed to an impound lot.the vin and speed were unknown.the failure and current mileages were 74,000.

Dodge 2005 stratus engine failure.engine seized up.no oil in engine caused stall.oil light came on & thought that it indicated low oil.instead oil light indicated no oil in engine causing engine seize up, timing belt breaking, stalling in the middle of midtown manhattan.

Defective engine design.oil sludge build up in 2001 dodge intrepid 2.7l engine, leading to dealer diagnosis of engine replacement needed, when vehicle has been seerviced per vehicle manual.

Fuel filler tube and gas tank connection.fuel filler tube rubs on bottom under carriage above the rear axel causing a hole in the flexible tube causing a hole which we ordered last august and still is back ordered.this also caused the gas tank where the tube enters also to fail because of the constant pressure above the axel.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, she discovered that the vehicle was leaking gasoline and the fuel level indicator inaccurately stated that the fuel tank was only half full. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer and they advised her that they were unaware if the failure was caused by the fuel tank itself of the fill.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

2005 dodge stratus sedan 4 door automatic 2.7 w less than 60k miles. Reverse went out after what i think was a clinking sound near the front. It drives normally, just does nothing in reverse. If the car is parked it will roll backwards if the car is on a incline. Transmission rebuild is more than the car is worth. This should be a recall. So many dodge transmission issues, they are losing many customers.

Sometime around the middle of march 2008, after starting my car i exited to retrieve something from the trunk when i noticed that there was a loud clicking noise coming from the engine.after close inspection i was unable to detect where the sound was coming from.i eventually took it to pep boys and they informed me that it appeared to be the flywheel.and with only 33,355 mile i shouldn't be having that problem.days later i took my '05 dodge stratus to aamcoand they confirmed that it was the flex plate (flywheel).i finally drove to the dealer to complain.the mechanics there also confirmed the problem but regardless of what the mileage may read their computer shows my warranty had expiredin september 2007.this problem may have started long before i noticed it but since i drive with my windows up and my radio on all the time, i heard nothing.i was informed by one of the technicians, that i need to get it repaired soon because the flex plate could eventually damage the starter.i'm having this repaired tuesday, april 8, 2008.i'm also keeping all parts that need to be replaced.

This issue has happened to my 2005 dodge stratus 3 times, already.i have a manual transmission and approximately, every 22,000 to 24,000 miles my clutch wears out.the warranty on the part of course only lasts 12,000 miles.the first time it cost me over $1,600 for parts and labor just to have the clutch replaced at the dealer.for the second time, i took it to a local shop and got the cost down to about $1,100.the third and most recent time occurred in march of 2008.once again the clutch stopped locking gears into place, rendering the vehicle completely undrivable.this time i ordered a part myself and had a friend install it for me.the part i ordered has a lifetime warranty, so needless to say, i feel a little more confident this time.my point here, is the standard clutch used by dodge is obviously a sub-standard part, not worthy of installation into any vehicle.one's clutch should not go out 3 times in as many years.i bought my car brand new just over 3 years ago now and it does not yet have 75,000 miles on it.i do not drive it poorly and grind the clutch.i should not be on my fourth clutch in the vehicle.if you happen to have a manual transmission in any dodge and are reading this complaint, i would recommend extreme caution and if you do end up having a problem, absolutely do not take it to the dealer.you'll just end up spending $1,000 or more a year from there on.

My seatbelts for my two window seats don't have the safety lock function. I was putting my sons car seat in my car and the seat belt wouldn't lock when i pulled it all the way out like its supposed to. I tried both sides and neither of them worked but both my front seatbelts work.

I went and had my children's car seats inspected by our local injury prevention and highway patrol, to make sure they were correctly installed. I have a forward facing convertible car seat that also has the option for a five point harness which i normally used, because my child was not big enough to use the booster yet. We tried multiple times to see if it would lock (in the case of a collision). It did not. I then tried the rear passengers side with only the same result. Both driver and passenger's in front did work. I did not see any recalls due to this specific concern.

Seatbelt snapped off from chest restraint on one seat, the other was locking mechanism

1. Waiting for traffic light to change at intersection of lincolin way and south dakota. 2. As i accelerated from the stop light to turn south onto south dakota, my chair made a "popping" noise and my chair slammed backward into the recline position and i was starring at the top of the car. The failure was the forward retaining bolt that fastens the seat back to the sliding frame rail had snapped. This in turn caused the frame support for the seat back to bend. Thankfully no person was hurt during this event because traffic was light and i was able to recover control of the vehicle. 3. I immediately took the car to the local dealership, benson motors. They proceeded to explain to me what failure had occurred. Then i was informed that i would have to purchase an entire different seat for my vehicle. A new chair would cost in excess of $1,000.00 or purchase a used chair from a salvage yard for roughly $500.00. From inspecting the chair personally, the support bolt snapped clean off, and the vehicle was only 4 years old and had less than 60,000 miles on it. The old parts are available, and i will be recording the failure with my digital camera. I also called the chrysler corporations customer service department and they informed me that they are not responsible for this failure because the vehicles 3yr/30,000mi warranty had expired and there was nothing they could do for me.

Got this car 2 years ago and from day 1 when applying the brakes all the way the car is almost uncontrolable the wheel pulls one way or the other bad so i have to pump them and then it still pulls and i have replaced the brakes 4 times to make sure it wasnt the disc and also replaced the wheel bearings and the shop told me the lower control arm and upper and lower ball joints are cracking up and so its not safe for me to drive and i dont have the money to be replacing something that shouldnt be messed up my car has low miles it started makimg clunking noises whem going over a bump and any time car is moving it is squeaking noises coming frpm front of car

This car is a death trap. I have lost control of the steering many times it seems to be worse in any curve. I must drive it under the speed limit at least 5 miles to safely keep it on the road. I am terrified everyday in this car. When using the brakes the whole car shakes violently an does not stop well even at low speeds(brakes are new)

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. The contact was traveling 35 mph when a preceding vehicle abruptly stopped 100 feet ahead of him. The contact depressed the brakes hard but the driver side wheel locked and the remaining three wheels did not respond. The contact crashed into the vehicle as a result. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop but was not inspected for the brake failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 128,500.

Was driving 25 mph driving on paramount blvd at whittier blvd, in pico rivera, ca, when the car made a loud clunking noise, then felt as though we were dragging something. Only drove 50 feet before pulling over, as it was impossible to drive. We thought it was initially a flat tire, until we got out. Our mechanic inspected it, and determined that the lower control arm had failed on the passenger side. It was clear from the picture that the ball joint was rusted and snapped free of its housing.

Takata there are several things that i have seen as a recall on a dodge stratus and tried to report it and whomever i be talking to is in denial about that my car is showing me the signs that it's needs to be fixed because it's a malfunction my ball joint is bad because of the front right steering knuckle has messed it up and my gas gauge is messed up with the alarm and temp control is also messed up

I was backing out of the driveway on his way to work and all of a sudden he couldn't steer. The right front tire just turned in sideways and wouldn't move with any movement of the steering wheel. We jacked up the car to see what happened and we saw the arm with the ball joint was completely detached from the socket. By the looks of it, the crack is near the retaining ring groove. We can manually move the tire as it is completely detached from the front suspension control arm. I was very upset with this and the fact i wasn't notified this was an issue. Not only could my life have been in danger but also my nephew who i let use the car and all of those other drivers on the roads everyday. An issue like this would for sure cause a fatality at a fast speed as i drive the interstate daily with my twin girls. This issue best be fixed and more notification is requested on any other issues pertaining to my car! if its not a recall, make it a recall! very dangerous!!!!!

As i pulled into the car lot where i am buying the car i heard a kind of clunk but was unsure what it was. I went in and made my car payment upon starting my car and putting in reverse to leave my car would not turn in any direction. I put the car in park and shut it off went back into the car salesman and asked him if he could help figure out what was going on . He jacked the car up and checked to see the problem but was unable to see anything until he removed the drivers side front tire . Here he immediately noticed that the rack and pinion had broke free from the tie rod end and was unable to get back together as the bolts that held these parts together were stripped completely out and there was no way to fix ..

One day i went to back out, i turned the wheel and hear this crunching, clunking sound which sounded like a huge rock scrapping on metal. I immediately stopped and walked around the car and saw nothing. It started again as soon as i started the car back up. Anytime i turn the steering wheel, i heard this sound. I took it to a mechanic who told me it was the tie-rod ends. He said a lot of people have this issue but there was no recall yet. I called the dealer to see if they would fix it since there were a lot of complaints. Nope ! the dealer said they could not fix it for free without an official recall. It's a costly repair $900-$1100 b/c it requires many different services - tie rod ends, tires, balance, alignment, but they would not drop the price by a single penny.now they are doing a piecemeal recall beginning with the trucks. Why not force them to recall them all ? i have been on multiple sites and i have seen complaints from as far back as 2003 to as recently as 2014. I wish the government was a hard on the dealers as the dealers are on the buyers.

My daughter was driving through a parking lot and the car suddenly stopped. She got out and looked at the front and discovered the both front wheels were turned out in opposite directions. The tie rod had broke and came apart. This could have been disastrous at highway speeds. I was able to fix it at home, but as a father, i worry about just this thing happening!

The consumer was told by the dealer that the parts were ordered for the 2005 dodge stratus right steering knuckle recall and would be informed when the parts came in.the consumer made a follow up and found out that the parts were never ordered. *mr recall campaign# 04v579000. *sc

On my 05 dodge stratus r\t coupe thedash board by the defroster vent area is bending up from the foam insulation.

A truck made an illegal lane change and he hit me on the front drivers side and damaged my light, hood, windshield, the computer, and other things under the hood.the impact was very strong and none of the air bags deployed.

I was crossing the intersection of ne 2nd ave & 79th street when another vehicle hit me on the passenger side. The street lights were completely out with no one directing traffic.

Its wore out and there was a recall i call about it they told me that mine was not in recall.

I was at the store just left about to get on the highway to pick up speed with my kids and myself being pregnant when my right wheel folded and scared the life out of us after holding up traffic and thank god i did not get on the highway. The mechanic advised me that my lower control arm and lower ball joint broke and causing my steering wheel to losen up causing my vehicle to go to the right and could of caused me to be in a serious accident if i woudl of picked up speed with my kids in the car. I was not notified of the recall by email or by the used car dealership i bought this car from and still paying on it. I had it repaired and still makes a horrible noise and fear that the left side may also do the same while i'm on the highway.

While i was driving the front driver side wheel broke off it was the control arm i have had it fixed. A couple of months after that incident i had the front passenger side tire also do the same. I got it fixed. Now my back driver side wheel is tilting in like it wants to break off. Since noticing this i have not driven it and has been stuck in my driveway 4 months until i can figure out a way to get it fixed without having to pay for something like this again

My car is pulling to rightpops every time you moveclickes in turning even in the slites turning shocks are bottoming out every turn cant go over a speed bump with out it hitting hardscared to drive my kids in itplease help happends all time

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. While reversing out of the driveway, the front passenger side wheel fractured and the ball joint detached. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09e056000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. While driving at 30 mph, the front driver side wheel detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the upper ball joints and the lower control arm assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the aftermarket upper ball joints used for the repaired failed in one years time. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 2 mph, attempted to make a left turn when he suddenly heard a loud clunk underneath the vehicle. The contact stopped and noticed that the front passenger side tire sheared and the lower ball joint had fractured. The vehicle was towed to the owners home and was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 129,906.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the right front wheel suddenly broke off. The vehicle was towed to a body shop where the contact was informed that the ball joint was not lubed at the factory which caused the wheel to break off. The contact felt that the failure was related to recall 09e056000 (suspension: front: control arm lower ball joint). The vin was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 78,000.

The events leading up to the failure were normal driving conditions. The failure was the top rear strut mounts, from the amount of back orders on the parts the failure is quite frequent. Nothing has been done to correct the failure.

The contact owns a 2005 dodge stratus.the contact stated that there were no air bags and no horn in her vehicle.in addition, the cruise control and fuel gauge were not working.she also noticed the ignition (where the key is inserted) was smoking.the dealer performed a diagnostic and the contact was informed that the battery was the cause of the failure.she was later informed that there was a faulty diagnostic test; therefore, the battery was not the cause of the failure.the failure mileage was approximately 52,500.
