The vehicle did not stall the day i drove it but when i stopped at a signal light the engine surged momentarily for approximately 3-4 seconds and then it returned to it?s normal idle. Had i not had the brake pedal engaged the vehicle would have surged forward2.transmission ? while driving on the interstate at speed limit and speed control set, upon resuming speed after coasting down a hill, there was a very distinct clunk that came from the transmission/transaxle.this same clunk occurred again at slow speeds when i slowing down for a signal.

The windows do not work and this problem keeps happening even after it was fixed, it wasn't the motor, switches or anything else, the wiring is bad somewhere andit went back out after the warranty expired.i hope this is a recall so something can get done and stay done.
Car was sitting in parking lot for about 8 hours, started car, loud squealing noise while in park and no radio or air conditioning, put into drive and reverse..no noise.pulled out of parking lot and went approx. 1 block when car just died and radio/air came on.car then started back up and has so far been ok.dealership found nothing.

2004 dodge stratus with rear end problems. Consumer had the resonator replaced, and then was told the rear struts needed to be replaced. When her dad was replacing the struts they broke into pieces because of all of the corrosion.the consumer stated when she purchased the vehicle, there wasa minor problem with the horn.the consumer stated she thinks there may be a problem with the transmission. As the vehicle changes gears, it will not change smoothly and ends up jerking back and forth as she tries to increase speed. 2004 stratus key would not turn in ignition.the lock cylinder was binding.the lock cylinder was replacedunder warranty.
Ignition locked up as if car is in drive and will not release the key.
The ignition interlock on my 2004 dodge stratusis inoperative.at least twice, the key was removed after the engine was shut off by while the car was in drive.the car then began to roll away.the second time this happened, the car ran into an obstruction and suffered 25 thousand dollars in damage.
When vehicle is parked and the owner inserts the key in the ignition the switch will not move, causing the vehicle not to start. Consumer is not able to use the vehicle.owner is aware of other similar models that were recalled but this vehicle was not recalled due to model year.
Car does the following at random- when driving at low speeds it dies, sometimes when pulling into parking spaces the engines surges and causes car to lunge forward. Once when i backed out of my driveway and put the car in drive it surged and lunged forward. The engine, on several occasions has idled very roughly, the engine light stayed on once and the other time it flashed 5 or 6 times and quit. Noe the motor in the rear window is defective! i have had this car to the dealership 6-7 times for this problem and "they can't duplicate the problem".the lemon law in tennesse requires 4 visits for the same problem, have exceeded that by far! i am done with dodge/chrysler and all their products. I will buy a foreign car befor i ever buy another product from them!!!
Dt: consumer says vehicle shakes at 50 mph.also, shakes when consumer first started vehicle. Consumer was told by dealer thatshakingwas caused by spark plug wires. Consumer stated wires were changed four times already, and it did not get better. Vehicle was taken to dealer to have wires changed. Vehicle was serviced regularly. Vehicledied intermittently.the check engine light came on. Thishappened about two weeks after purchase ofvehicle.
While driving on i-290 ( 3 lane super highway just outside chicago)the asd (automatic shut down) switch activated and turned my car off. I coasted to an exit but the car would not restart.
Lately when i drive my car the check engine light will come on and then a couple minutes after it comes on the steering will lock up. It has done this multiple times within the last couple of months. The first time i was able to get it started again but then the speedometer wouldn't work. After the first time i thought it was fixed but now whenever it malfunctions the car shuts off on its own and will not start again until its been sitting untouched for at least 10 minutes. This has happened in town (25 mph) and on roads up to 55 mphs.
2.7 liter engine should be recalled and replaced because? 1. The internal water pump which have been known to wear out prematurely and destroy the engine regardless how well the owner maintains vehicle. 2. Subframe and rear suspension crossmember should be replace due to rotting out prematurely. 3 gloss on paint prone to pealing.
I was driving home and felt a miss in the engine, placed in neutral to see if it was just a bump or imagination. I watched the engine rpms drop to zero. Somehow the vehicle started back up and i was able to stop in time only to have to throw it in neutral again and drive two footed all the way home because the engine was trying to die.so, i drove my truck to work for the next week and then saturday came around and i fired the car up nothing appeared or sounded unusual. I let it idle for about 5 min. Backed up and out of the drive way and at the second stop sign i hung a right and heard a "pop" noise followed by a card in bike spoke sound from the engine, i opened the hood, again no damage ....the valve cover closest to the front of the vehicle had 2 cracks in it! it was oozing out oil. So as it turns out though i got really lucky, i bent 2 valves on #3 piston, also did compression leak down test on all other cylinders they were fine. (if your chain snapped it is a very easy and fast test to determine if your motor is junk or not and should not cost you much at all) dealerships wanted over 6k for long block, the car isn't worth that much! auto parts stores wanted over 400 bucks for timing set only. I found the timing chain set, oil pump, and water pump on line for half the cost of the timing chain set alone. Good brand names too! upon removing the timing cover and heads from the engine i found the cause of the problem, the water pump bearings seized, and because that water pump is driven by the large timing chain it was the cause of the chain snapping and almost ruining my entire engine.
Car lost power.no accelerator or power in traffic.09/01/16 was last time..does this quite often.
Car was parked in the driveway about 1 day.as i started the car i heard a big bang, and the engine seized up.car will not turn over.no warnings or anything to indicate something was wrong with the engine.i decided to look under the hood, and i pulled out the dipstick and spotted a dark milky substance.i bought this car about 3yrs. Ago, and kept the maintenance up on the car.
Car is driven on regular city streets and freeways.roads i drive are paved - no country, dusty roads and area isn't heavy in pollution.i purchase my gas from shell or chevron and refill at 1/4 to 1/3 tank to reduce chance of picking up sediment from fuel tank.noticed while driving on freeway.that car would drop in speed from 60 mph to 20 rather quickly and then forget about going up a hill.i was also getting 8-10 mpg.a couple weeks later i noticed even on level city streets the loss of power.car was diagnosed as catalytic converter and with california emission regulations the cost of parts and labor was $ 1,600.00.a year later, i noticed some loss of power and increased fuel consumption.car was diagnosed to need cat converter replaced again and paid another $ 1,600.00.also was diagnosed that rear mounts needed replacement and was wondering if this was normal.very bouncy ride.
While at a stop engine light illuminated. Vehicle then started to jerk forward.consumer preceded to drive home.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.while idling, the vehicle surges forward sporadically without warning.when the failure occurs the rpm's rapidly increase and braking capability is reduced.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer numerous times, but they cannot determine the cause of the failure.the failure has not been remedied.the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 56,500.updated 6/8/09 the consumer stated when stopped at a light, the engine would suddenly start to race just over 2000 rpm's. Updated 06/11/09.
The car will idle roughly at slow speeds and stall in parking lots and intersections, with just 6,000 miles the brakes are now going bad as well. It also will lunge forward without warning at stop lights and stop signs, my wife was almost in an accident yesterday and refuses to drive the car. It is at the dealership again for the same problem today. Last time they told me i did no know what it means when a car stalls because the computer says it did not and they drove it a few miles and did not have trouble. I wish i could get rid of it today.
While driving at low speeds vehicle stalled. After the vehicle stalls it cuts off even when the consumers foot is on the accelerator.sometimes it feels like the gas pedal has been kicked because the vehicle jerks forward.*tc
This letter in regards to my service contract #23013588 for # 2004 dodge stratus. I purchased the vehicle on 10/14/06 and it had 50,000 miles on it. I have put approximately 36,000 miles on the vehicle and have done routine oil changes every 3 ? 4,000 miles. I have changed the oil myself by draining the oil and replacing the oil filter and new oil. I have no receipts for this and was not aware i was required to keep detailed records of this. Nowhere in my service do i see anything that says to. On 08/10/08 my car began stalling and i was able to get it towed to jack powell chrysler dodge in escondido, ca for service. Mike lewis recommended i have the engine dismantled to further investigate the problem. Upon his investigation he saw metal shavings and ?sludge? near the bearings. Chrysler sent a 3rd party investigator to take a look at the problem. It was the inspector?s decision that the problem was due to lack of maintenance and the repairs would not be covered. This is absolutely preposterous! i have taken excellent care of my car and was a very happy customer until this incident. I am requesting in writing an appeal to this decision and demand that the car be repaired as designated in my service contract. I purchased the additional warranty for the comfort of knowing that if something like this were to happen i would certainly be covered. I contacted your company and was told this is the proper channel to make this request. The person i spoke to said you replace engines everyday and doesn't see why this would be a problem. I need to have this repaired as i cannot possibly afford what it would cost to replace the engine. I am a good customer and i cannot understand why my service contract is basically useless. These repairs must be covered and there was in no way a lack of maintenance. Please take whatever actions are necessary to resolve this matter in a timely fashion. I refuse to just be swept under the rug.
I have had to replace the cam shaft rotation sensor 4x, the car breaks down when it fails. Also, the relay wires constantly come loose.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.the contact was driving approximately 70 mph on normal road conditions.the "engine warning" light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle exhibited a rough running during performance.the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing on three separate occasions with replacement of three different computer chips.currently, the vehicle is being serviced at an authorized dealer to reprogram the computerized system.the failure mileage was unknown.
I have a 2004 dodge stratus that i recently was having rough idle and ended up stalling on me.the problem started several months ago and i had a tune up done on the car and the spark plugs where replaced.i then continued to have issues and the independent shop replaced the ignition wires.they said the computer was not giving a code however they could monitor the system and see a misfire on cylinder one.they changed the wire on 1 to 3 and 3 to 1 and then the same behavior occurred on cylinder 3.i had the car for about 3 days and after staring it up and letting it warm up on a cold winter morning i would hear it running rough.the car sounded like it could stall and the engine light started flashing.i took it back to the independent dealer and they could not duplicate the problem.i asked them about a tsb i found that was related with flashing the pcm and related with cold starts.i had the pcm flashed at a dodge/chrysler dealer who said they never heard of the issue and did not think the pcm needed updated.they said they hooked up the computer and found that it did need to be updated.i have been running the car for about 1 month and so far no issues. I believe their is a know problem with the 2004 dodge stratus and the original pcm code causing the car to run rough and cause the engine light to turn on.
04/20/2012 drove out of drive way down heading down the street tostop sign *(cul-de-sac) heard something like a bang...drove back in to drive way. Open hood...found an open gap on leftside of cover showing time chain exposed...had a mechanic look over car, while he was checking under the engine ,releasinga few bolts to repair sawtiming chain guide had broken off causing time chain shift andgo out of position causing the cover to bust open...i was told vehicle wasnot repairable.due to the timing chain guide . Purchased in december2011failed components timing chain and timing chain guide and pulley.

The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.the vehicle was purchased on june 13, 2005 and the oil light has been illuminating on the instrument panel ever since.the dealer attempted to diagnose the failure on several occasions; however, they stated that cleaning some parts would correct the issue.the failure continued to persist.an independent mechanic stated that the oil switch and plugs were not in place.he replaced them with parts that were purchased from the dealer, but the oil light remained illuminated.four months ago, a dealer diagnosed the vehicle due to noise present in the engine area.the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced at the cost of $3,000; however, she could continue to drive the vehicle for a short period of time.while driving approximately 60 mph on september 1, 2008, the engine shut off.the contact was unable to restart the vehicle and it was towed to her residence.the tie rod also failed on another occasion while driving approximately 60 mph.she was able to stop the vehicle without incident and it was towed to the dealer for repair.there was no warranty for the vehicle.the approximate failure mileage was 33,000 and current mileage was 107,000. Updated 10/14/08. *ljthe consumer was informed the vehicle needed a new engine. Updated 10/16/08.
I purchased a 04 dodge stratus with a 2.7 engine and need to replace the water pump, which is expensive. It has 100,000 miles on it. I have read the complaints with this engine and am scared to fix anything. This sludge problem i read about could be next for us. And from what i read will be. I purchased it for my son and never herd of these problems until now. He has had it for about 6 months and now this. We have hardships just like any other family and fixing minor problems with vehicles are bad enough. The fix for this is about 1000.00 will the sludge be next?i would like to be apart of any law suit.
Dt*:the contact stated that while driving 40 mph on wet roads, smoke began to erupt from under the hood.the vehicle stalled completely, and could not be restarted.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer determined that the fan blades had detached and pierced the radiator.
2004 stratus made a whistling noise that came from the engine when driving 70-80 mph.the consumer stated it sounded as if the front of the vehicle was going to fall apart. The consumer thinks something is loose or broke in the front of the vehicle. He thinks it may be the steering, transmission or the rack and pinion.
My car sometimes shuts off while in parking lots or at red lights.when i got out last time i let my car sit for about 30 minutes and underneath the hood was all hot!the dealer cannot find the problem because it only happens spontaneously and they would need to duplicate the problem.i read a website forum full of stratus' that all have the same problem.they stop without warning, the radio stays on and everything!this could lead to a wreck!
Dt*:the contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine revved and the tires spun.the vehicle accelerated the hit the consumer's garage.the vehicle and garage sustained damage.the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection but they were unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer was alerted, however no repairs were made.updated 3/20/2006 -
Our 2004 dodge stratus engine seized up completely and without warning in the middle of an intersection while my wife was driving home with our children. This car is equipped with the 2.7l v6 engine which only now have we become aware of the long history of this catastrophic type of failure. We bought this car new and have taken meticulous care with maintenance as noted by the service manager at our dealership. None the less, now i am expected to spend $6,700 to replace a motor that was clearly defected in design.
Car stalls, sputters, jumps, kicks and all without warning. Shakes a bit while driving but really acts up when slowing or stopped.

I purchased a 2004 dodge stratus on 4/13/04.on 5/22/04 i brought the vehicle to a service center for the first oil change.upon placing the vehicle on the rack , they discovered that there was widespread severe corrosion to the undercarriage of the vehicle, including tie rods, the exhaust system, etc..they advised me that they felt that, left uncorrected, the situation presented a safety hazard.i have jpeg images of some of the affected areas that can be sent by e-mail.from what i can see, the vehicle is unsafe to drive.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle experienced engine failure at the head of the engine.the contact pulled off the road and the vehicle was towed.he discovered that the machine head was constructed incorrectly, which prevented oil from reaching the cylinder.the head was replaced under warranty.the contact had to pay a $100 deductible and was told that the expenses would be taken up with the chrysler dealer.the current and failure mileages were 31,000.
The blower motor resistor on the air conditioner/heater will only blow on high.i would like to know if there is a recall on this malfunction.this malfunction makes it impossible to hear the radio and to regulate an comftorable atmosphere inside the vehicle. The interior bulb stopped functioning about three weeks after i purchased the vehicle at 67,990 miles and the child safety door locks do not work.
Jacking 2004 dodge stratus.i used the jack that was supplied by the manufacturer to jack my car to rotate my tires.the rear jack points (as outlined by the owner's manual) were used.the jack points are not strong enough to support the car. The car will slide (car was on level surface).i brought my car to hendricks dodge in cary nc and we looked at five other dodge stratus.each one was completely different.the conclusion was that the dodge rep needed to be contacted.today, dodge is stating that the jack and jack points on the 2004 dodge stratus are to be used only for emergency use.the jack and jack points are not to be used for jacking the car for tire rotations.i feel that there is a danger thatsomeone is going to get hurt, especially if they jack their car on the side of a road to change a flat tire.

The events leading up the failure of my vehicle were, the car kept turning off.i could restart it afterwards without a problem.i took the vehicle to the dodge dearlership and was told i needed a new transmission.this was repaired under the warranty.afterwards, the car stalled a few times and i could restart. The last time it stalled i could not restart it and i was told by the dealership that i needed a new fuel pump. I went to visit son and yes i took it to auto zone to have it checked to make sure that everything was ok to drive on the highway. So i made it to my sons home then i have to make a run to the store as i got back on the highway to drive a guy starts to flag me down and said there was sparks under my car an soon as i pull over to the side of the road the whole front part of my car caught a fire fire department was called car was towed. They say its nothing they can do even through it is a recall on the car for that reason,no one will return my calls from the company.

Lower left front suspension arm ball joint broken.the outer bearing carrier, fell away from the suspension arm, pulling the half shaft out of the transmission, and the wheel/tire assembly jammed up in the wheel well with a complete loss of steering control.the vehicle was in motion just following a turn, in a parking area.
2004 dodge stratus left axle broke off while driving. Consumer also states that the tire fell off, brake rotor was replaced and then the ball joint went bad.the consumer also stated the transmission gasket was replaced twice and the vehicle smelled hot.
Car has shut down while driving on highway and on city street. Sometimes the steering wheel will lock up and be hard to turn. Sometimes speedometer will stop working correctly. Car will shut down.
The consumer stated the only way to stop it, is to take her foot off the accelerator and then accelerate through to the next gear
The ignition interlock on my 2004 dodge stratusis inoperative.at least twice, the key was removed after the engine was shut off by while the car was in drive.the car then began to roll away.the second time this happened, the car ran into an obstruction and suffered 25 thousand dollars in damage.
Click sound in left front area when accelerating (fwd and reverse) and breaking.seems to be a common problem with stratus r/t and the similar mitsubishi eclipse.similar complaints and discussion can be found here.http://www.eclipseforums.org/fortopic8583-0-asc-0.html.*nn
When the gear shifter was bumped it shifted from drive to neutral.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.while driving approximately 35 mph, the engine was between 4 to 5 rpm's, but the vehicle would not accelerate forward.the vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that the transmission failed.the current mileage was 96,000 and failure mileage was 95,500.
1.ignition- ms. Faulkner was transporting me to pick up my vehicle and her vehicle engine shut off just before she came to a stop. She stated that this had occurred on several occasions.

I paid for the repair services and the next searched the recalls on the internet.i just want my $724.13 refunded.there was a nhtsa recall, # 03v443000, regarding the fuel system/fuel pump and another nhtsa recall, # 04v313000, regarding the fuel system/fuel pump as well.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in head on collision, whereby the seat belt did not secure the consumer, causing him to strike his head on the steering wheel, then, the air bags deployed only because his head hit the steering.consumer broke his nose, and had other multiple injuries.the vehicle was totaled.
Dt*: the contact stated that the driver's side seatbelt caught on fire twice and the passenger side air bag deployed.during each incident the air bag light illuminated on the dash.on the first incident the dealership determined there was an electrical short in the airbag module and in the left and right front squids.the seat belt tensioner was determined to be faulty.the dealership replaced the air bag module and the air bag. The seat belt tensioner was repaired.the second incident resulted in injuries to the passenger of the vehicle.the air bag module was determined defectiveand the driver's side seatbelt retractor was faulty.the dealership replaced the air bag module, the air bag and the seat belt retractor. The seat belt is malfunctioning again.the air bag light is illuminated on the dash of the vehicle.
Driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into school bus head on.upon impact, driver's side air bag deployed, butdriver's side seat belt retractor bracket broke. The seat belt failed to restrain the driver, causingeye and back injuries, and driver was transported by helicopter to the hospital.vehicle was towed, and totaledby the insurance company.
At 28,000 miles the airbag light came on. The dealer said it was a seat belt retractor. They replaced it. I have had the air bag light come on every few months. They have replaced seat belt components and messed with the connectors. I have had it in 5 times now.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, she applied the brakes but the vehicle would not decelerate, causing her to crash into another vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a local police officer who stated that there appeared to be a defective brake line. The vehicle had not been diagnosed by a mechanic or repaired. The failure and current mileages were 129,565.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal noise and the brakes functioned intermittently. The failures happened without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the control arm assemblies were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Nhtsa campaign numbers: 07e023000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 10e059000 (suspension) were issued for these failures. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Driving down the road, i had lost my brakes, took it to a mechanic and the brakes line on the left front wheel broke, this happened in september 2013, and the left front brake line broke again in december 2013. I called the dealer and they said there were no recalls for brakes, maybe next time i'll be traveling the interstate and realize i have no brakes when i need to apply them.
My case is similar to odi case 10151711. I perform most of my car maintenance from oil changes to brake pad replacement. I had recently replaced my pads and made sure every bolt was tightened correctly. One week later i was driving down the highway at an approximate speed of 70 mph and heard a clunk and it sounded like i had ran over something as the object hit the bottom of my car. I thought someone threw something out their window. About a mile down the road i heard a noise that sounded like i had a flat tire. As i began to brake and pull over the noise went away. Confused by the sudden stop of the noise, i proceeded another mile or so down the highway until the noise from the right front tire started up again and sounded like grinding. I immediately pulled over at this point and came to a skidding stop. I tried to pull forward as i was off the road but very close to the shoulder. The car would not move forward regardless of the pressure on the gas peddle. I decided to try and back up and i was successful and pulled further off the shoulder. I saw that my caliper had come free and began to take chunks out of the alloy rim. I am very fortunate that idid not lose control of the vehicle or damage any other vehicles on the road. The tow truck driver and service manager stated they never saw anything like this before. $497.66 later (new bolts and a rim) my car was mobile. I was over twenty miles from home when this occurred. Photos and bill available for review.
At 19000 miles, the front rotors had to be replaced due to warpage.dealership says it is not covered under warranty after 12000 miles.now the car has 22000 miles on it and needs front rotors replaced again.i refuse to again pay for something that should at least have a life expectancy of 55000 miles or more.dealership mechanic says it is a defect in the rotors but it is not covered under warranty.why?????????
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 45mph with steady brake pressure applied, the abs brakes locked up resulting in a rear end collision.upon impact, the vehicle rolled over and slid into a telephone pole coming to a final stop on its side.the airbags did not deploy.although the contact was wearing a seatbelt, no injuries were sustained.the vehicle was totaled due to the extensive damage.the police were on the scene and a report was taken.the insurance adjustor, as well as a factory representative, inspected the vehicle and determined the airbags should have deployed.the vehicle is a 2004 dodge srt4.
At around 32,000 miles the brake shoe bolts broke, and the shoe got caught in the rim causing 1: the rim (inside)to grind aginst the shoe and forever changing the shape of the rim. 2: bending the calliper. And 3: having the breaks grind the rotor in an unusual manner in which they needed to be grinded down.i was slowing down for the stop light (speed limit was 25, i was going maybe 20), and started to break, the brakes locked up, and was pulling to the left.it was a very violent stop.for a second, i thought that i might have gotten a flat tire, but i got out side of the car after putting it in park, and turning on my hazzards.looking at the front left tire, i saw that it was fine, looked at all of the other tires, and they are all fine as well.got back into the car, and put it in drive.car didnt move.put it in reverse...car didnt move either.wondering what was happening, i put the car again, in park, and looked at the tires again.i noticed at this time that something looked different with the rim.i got in for a closer look, and noticed it was pretty badly damaged.i proceeded to lift the car, take the tire off, and as soon as i took the tire off, the shoe was hanging and wasnt bolted in where it should have been.holy crap, was i mad.then went into advance auto, to get replacement bolts, and found some, about 3 hours later because they didnt have any in stock, and they had to call around.after putting the bolts on, idrove home at about 20 mph, using about half and half (brakes and e-brake).i did not want that to ever happen again. A day after that happend i took it into the dealer to have them fix the problem. I asked them to fix it anyways. Total bill was around $130.$112 being labor, and $18 for the bolts and other parts. What really burns me up, is that this shouldnt have happend for one, and i'm sol for my rim and calliper.it still makes a scraping sound when i make turns as well.
Vehicle has been experiencing a variety of noises from the front wheel area over 20,000 miles.dealership has made several repairs, including replacing brake pads and installing new design rivets, but the problem persists.independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and found the brake caliper bolts lose and almost separated from the caliper-- if the caliper had become separated with the vehicle in motion, it may have contacted the wheel rim causing front wheel lock-up.
I was driving at about 30 mph and coming to a slow for a stop light when it sounded like it had a flat tire. I started to pull over while continuing to slow the car when it came to a sharp stop and i could go no further to get out of the way of traffic. I got out to look, and saw no flat tire, but noticed front right brakegrinded intorim. I had it towed to a repair shop near my home, and they assessed that a large bolt fell out from the brake calliper, and caused my brake to slip out and collide with the rim. My car is just over a year old, and i have never had any brake work done thus far. They found a replacement bolt for me, and i then drove it to the dealership to see if it was warranty covered, they said no. They suggested that i not drive on the rim for fear of not knowing whether or not there were fractures that were not visible, and that hitting one pot hole could collapse the rim and do further damage.
Purchased a 2004 dodge stratus in july of 2003. By demeber 2003, at 6,00 miles, the rotors needed to be replaced due to warpage. In july 2004, apx 12,000 miles, the rotors needed to be replaced again due to warpage. I began to see this for what is is; a perpetual problem soon to be excluded from warranty work. I took a loss of 1,500. On the vehicle simply to get out from under it. I refuse to believe that this is due to my driving style, which is the standard line being given to dodge owners. Did some research on the web to see if other dodge owners experience this problem and it appears it comes standard with most dodge vehicles. It appears the final solution involves shelling out 400 bucks out of pocket for a higher quality rotor. Call me crazy, but i expect standard mechanical equipment on a vehicle to actually do what it is supposed to do. I have never had rotor problems on any other vehicle i've owned. (granted, this is my first dodge) this issue cries out for a recall!!!!!!!!!!!!
2004 dodge stratus left axle broke off while driving. Consumer also states that the tire fell off, brake rotor was replaced and then the ball joint went bad.the consumer also stated the transmission gasket was replaced twice and the vehicle smelled hot.
- the contact stated that while backing her 2004 dodge stratus (115111 failure mileage) at 1 mph into a parking, she heard a clicking in the steering column and airbag light deployed.the contact continued to drive the vehicle and now the horn is inoperable.she stated that the clock spring broke.
The ball joint on the lower control arm assembly separated causing the front passenger side wheel to turn to the right and preventing the driver from being able to steer the car.the vehicle was in motion driving in a straight line when it happened. This is similar to nhtsa recall #10e059000 and #09e056000.i think the control arm was the original factory part.i'll attach pictures with the part number.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus. The contact stated that the steering wheel became loose around the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic, who advised the contact of a recall that was not related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
Car has shut down while driving on highway and on city street. Sometimes the steering wheel will lock up and be hard to turn. Sometimes speedometer will stop working correctly. Car will shut down.
I have noticed when i am turning my steering wheelto the left or right there appears to be somewhat of a lack of control and loosening of the front end of my vehicle as i am driving. Also, the suspension on my vehicle has become much more pronounced negatively.
As i am turning the steering wheel when driving or idle the steering is making a squeaking/creaking noise i believe it has to do with recall: 10e059000 front control arm - lower arm
A clanking noise started coming from the front of the vehicle.right front side collapsed onto the ground. Vehicle was unable to move, andit was towed to the dealer.mechanic determined that the steering knuckle sheared off and needed to be replaced.

The failure and current mileages were 37,000. Updated 12/30/08.*lj updated 01/05/09.

While making a turn at 5mph, my front right wheel collapsed causing complete separation of the wheel and control arm in turn causing my axle to come out from the transmission at the cv joint. There is a recall for this ball joint issue but not for my vin specifically.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a grinding sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. The grinding sound progressed over time and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised the contact that the front driver and passenger side lower ball joints, outer tie rods and the stabilizer bar would have to be replaced. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 09e056000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Driving over a small bump in the road, the car rear suspension made a clanging noise.upon investigation, the left rear shock absorber top mount is broken, and the shock is loose and rattling, not performing its function to stabilizer the vehicle over standard road conditions.loss of suspension during braking maneuver on wet roads could lead to an accident from loss of control of vehicle.
2004 dodge stratus left axle broke off while driving. Consumer also states that the tire fell off, brake rotor was replaced and then the ball joint went bad.the consumer also stated the transmission gasket was replaced twice and the vehicle smelled hot.
There are two recalls on the same model/year of my car (10e0959000 and 09e056000).in august, 2013 an automotive repairman told me that the problem with my vehicle is that the car needs a front control arm and lower ball joint.this is directly related to the two recalls.but i was told by a dodge dealer that my vin # does not have any recalls.how is it determined that only some vehicles are included in the recall and not others?it is too much of a coincidence that my vehicle has the exact same malfunctions as in the two recalls.how do i get my vin # added to the recall list?

I was driving at 30mph coming to stop where i heard this loud clunk like if i ran over a large rock and bottomed out on it. Nothing happened to the car from what i can see but i see that there are many other complaints for this issue on this car.
Car is making crunching sounds in rear. Brought into the dealership on route 38, lumberton nj 08060 and was told it's the rear suspension/struts etc and would cost $1100.00 to fix. My sister has the same car, same year and hers broke last year. I then looked online and saw there are so many complaints about this problem. The parts that were put onto car during assembly line were like plastic and they crumble and cause the whole rear to fall, cause accidents, cause tires to fly off the car and deaths. This should be a recall immediately. My mom is very angry. She paid for both cars and wont buy another american made car again unless they recall this issue. She called dodge headquarters 800 number and spoke to [xxx] and he said there was nothing he could do. Please do something.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Mounting bracket on rear struts broke
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus. While driving 10 mph, she attempted to make a right turn, felt a bump and loud noises under the hood. She immediately drove the vehicle to a local mechanic. The mechanic stated that the failure was a result of the upper aluminum strut mounts and needed to be replaced immediately. The dealer stated that the parts would not be available until 08/14/08. The vehicle is parked and has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 80,000.

Events leading up to failure was just normal driving conditions for 79,500 miles.the failure was a rear strut mount breaking and losing suspension in the rear.this is a permanent failure and the opposite side is showing a crack and is ready to break as well.as of now the vehicle is not operable and if it were to have broke at a different time it could have caused loss of vehicle control.to correct the failure service will be needed but there is a multiple month wait for parts according to local dealerships.the old parts will be available once replacement parts can be provided.
My vehicle failed inspection because the rear strut mounts need to be replaced. My mechanic reports that this is a very common occurrence in dodges and thought their might even be a recall issued on this part but my research indicated thatis not the case.
Failure of mounting bracket for rear struts: 2004 dodge stratus, date of mfg09/2003.
The consumer stated the only way to stop it, is to take her foot off the accelerator and then accelerate through to the next gear
The left rear lower arm control snapped causing damaged to the leftsidedrivetrain components including frame and cross member the whole rear was replaced including the gas tank
My 2004 dodge stratus had the passenger side rear strutmount fail. It was oxidized and broke when going over a bump. I brought it in for repair and there is no parts for this. They are on back order.
Failure of the rear upper strut mounts on a 2004 dodge stratus sxt due to corrosion. Was told by dodge dealer "over 9000" of these items are back ordered. The car is un-drivable and dangerous as is. One has completely failed the other is almost corroded through. Parts are un-available through manufacturer and third party vendors.
2004 dodge stratus - approx 90,000 milesat first, i noticed a thumping on the rear passenger side of vehicle. After continuing to drive the car while trying to determine cause, the rear strut mounting bracket broke.after looking under the car, it was determined that the mounting bracket broke due to corrosion.it was also seen at this time that the driver side rear bracket was broke as well, leaving the car undrivable and unsafe.after we contacted the dealership, they told us there is a national backorder on this part and no foreseen date of when they will get the parts to fix my car.we have also contacted local salvage yards to find replacements until the new parts arrive, with no success.
Have a 2004 dodge stratus and upper left rear strut mount has broken. This is the second time this has happened since buying the car new.
Heard loud clanking while driving. When home inspected right rear upper strut mount and found it broken. Called dealer, who replaced both sides. Left side was eroded from the top around the spring cup where salt water was probably sitting in winter, causing severe erosion coupled with the jouncing of the strutwhich caused breakage.
There was a distinctive rattle coming from the right rear suspension.the failure was the upper strut mount.the right and left strut mounts were replaced.the original material was aluminum and the replacement was painted steel.the dealer said a few months ago there was a waiting list of thousands of these parts.do not have the old parts left at tire store.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.while driving at an unknown speed over a bump in the road there was a rattling noise coming from the vehicle.when her husband drove the vehicle, he experienced the same failure.the failure felt as if the rear end was loose or unstable.the dealer stated that they could order the part for the repair, but did not know when it would arrive because it was on back order.the failure mileage was 70,300 and current mileage was 70,700.updated 09/16/08.*ljupdated 09/18/08.
Through normal driving i exited off a highway ramp and heard a loud clang and thought my car had bottomed out.when i looked under the car the part that attached my rear drivers side tire to the shock had broken free.a neighbor told me it was the upper link to the rear view.my car is now undriveable.the rear wheel tilts onto the shock and rubs, also every small bump in the road sounds and feels like the car is bottoming out.
Right rear upper strut mount corroded and failed.the rear suspension had no support as the top of the strut became detached from the vehicle.no accident resulted but this seems to be a very poor design for areas of the country where salt is used to clear snow from roads.previous years design of the upper mount was a steel mount.in 2004 the mount appears to be aluminum and very susceptible to corrosion.the only available repair was replacement of the mount.i replaced both mounts as the other was beginning to corrode as well.
My 2004 dodge stratus has defective parts. The aluminum rear strut upper mount brackets corroded so bad theft fell apart in 4 pieces and corrosion dust . These brackets are obviously defective to fall apart like this on a vehicle only 6 years old. There needs to be a recall for dodge to replace these parts or pay for the parts already replaced. I need the car. I can't wait for a recall. I will keep the defective parts.
Dealer said i had to have rear lateral link replaced to align car properly. Dodge stratus sxt had 31,000 miles on it but dealer said it was not covered under 3yr 36,000 mile warranty. Manufacturer was called and they said it was covered. Dealer would not refund cost to replace part.
2004 dodge stratus rear upper strut mounts breaking from corrosion. I have pictures and the parts that i can send.
I have an 04 stratus coupe i bought used, the dash is coming apart at the defroster vent. It seems to be coming apart at the seams. It only has 55000 miles on it. Updated 01/11/08.*ljupdated
As i am turning the steering wheel when driving or idle the steering is making a squeaking/creaking noise i believe it has to do with recall: 10e059000 front control arm - lower arm
Dash is cracking. Separating from defrost vents.
The contact owns a 2004 dodge stratus.the contact stated that the entire dashboard is failing.the passenger side air bag is beginning to raise from the dashboard and become visible.the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer.the dashboard had never been protected from sun exposure, however, when the failure began, the contact covered the dashboard with a towel and used a sun shield.the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 51,000.

Car after running the first few miles, when stopped at a light the car accelerate by it self. You can feel it pulling when brakes are on. Have taken it they drive it does not do it they say car is ok. It's true this happens may be once or twice a month. But i need to know if their has been any complaints about this vehicle having similar problems.

The driver shifted the vehicle into park and the vehicle stopped moving but the engine rpms continued to fluctuate rapidly. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. When putting the vehicle in reverse it surged backwards. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, andhit a brick wall.consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.
Dt: the contact statedvehicle had a problem stopping. The rpms revved when the brake was applied. The vehiclesurged forward while trying to stop.the problem seemedto be intermittent. The contactowned the car since july 205,and this happened five times. She has been working with the dealer to see if the problem couldbe resolved.the dealer has done diagnostic testing and found no solution. Chrysleroffered her nosolution to the problem or any free remedy. The vehicle has been into the dealer twice. The contact's vehiclerear ended a car as a result of the surging.
Vehicle will accelerate for no apparent reason while at a stop or coming to a stop, took to dealer in 2009 did not find anything wrong but has done this ever since. Today it actually accelerated harder wile at a complete stop making me hit a vehicle in front of me no damage.
While driving at low speeds vehicle stalled. After the vehicle stalls it cuts off even when the consumers foot is on the accelerator.sometimes it feels like the gas pedal has been kicked because the vehicle jerks forward.*tc
My windshield cracked on the passenger side of my dodge stratus i was told by the company that replaced my windshield that all the dodge car hes seen with this problem where water will get in thetop of the windshield and i well rust from the inside out this would be a safety issue on the road to the driver/passenger safety up to pedestrians on the road also if the air bags where to deploy it could cause the windshield to detach from the car i have photo of the car rust under the windshield i don't have pitches of the windshield.
The windows do not work and this problem keeps happening even after it was fixed, it wasn't the motor, switches or anything else, the wiring is bad somewhere andit went back out after the warranty expired.i hope this is a recall so something can get done and stay done.
While driving there was a sound coming from the rear which sounded like grinding in the wheels or in the wheel wells.the driver's side window made a loud clicking noise when it was stopped.the sound in the rear wasespecially noticed when going over bumps, speed bumps and when making turns. *sc

Heard a pop, pulled over and the tires are in different directions.called the local dealer and they say no recalls on this vin, however, the parts it seems were recalled for other vin numbers on this vehicle.specifically recall id 79805 and recall id 86458.
I have noticed when i am turning my steering wheelto the left or right there appears to be somewhat of a lack of control and loosening of the front end of my vehicle as i am driving. Also, the suspension on my vehicle has become much more pronounced negatively.
When i took my 04 stratus to have the tires rotated at 5000 miles, the professional shop i took it to tryed to torque the tires at recomended pressure when 3 of the studs broke off. No metal should break at 100ftlbs. Lucky i was not on the roadwith my family when they decided to break.
While braking and changing lanes a loud sound was heard from the right front and the wheel on that side locked and caused the vehicle to loose control. When i looked at the right front wheel the brake parts had been pushed through the wheel to the outside and the bolts connecting the wheel parts had sheered apart.
