Had dodge stratus 2000 es for ten years.mileage at approximately 53,000. This year when interior hot the following do not work:windshield wipers, dash gauges, security system, dash indicator for transmission gear, cool air through air conditioner.sometimes while driving this problems happens and am unable to see what gear car is in, what speed, fuel left, wipers not functioningall which are safety issues.when interior cool, all functions return.worked with a good mechanic who diagnosed faulty body control module also called a multi function module.$750 dollars later, car ok.
My 2000 dodge stratus se i have had for about 5yrs now excellent running car but has started making its own decisions when it comes to cold air in the summer, mileage, door locks & speed. If you want cold air in the summer time then you need to make sure your windows are rolled down and you are parked in the shade. If not you will drive around until the sun goes down and the car is cool enough for the gauges and air to kick back on. I have talked to several mechanics about this and no one can come up with a solution for it. I love my car and i want to know what is going on!!!!!!
Started car and lowered window (power). Minutes after i started to drive, the power mirrors on both sides began to move by themseves. Minutes later smoke started coming out of the driver side door panel. Minutes after that flames shot out of top of door panel. I pulled over and got out of car. The fire was put out by someone with a fire extinguisher. The body shop ewald chrysler mayfair on mayfair road in wawatosa wi replaced the door. To my knowledge no fused had to be replaced. I don't know if parts are available.*la

Fire under hood in 2000 dodge stratus.
My dodge stratus started blowing horn without me touching. Everytime i turn the wheel the horn blows. Then two days later the light came in the car would not go off. Then locks start going up and down and door make beep as if a door his open. I had to remove the fuses to stop horn from blowing, cut inside lights off and stop locks from going up and down. The car still makes beep noise as if door open whole time driving and stops and start back when i hit a bump. My front wheel making a noise as if the wheel is going to break off on the passenger side. It is also drinking gas as if it is leaking. I dont see any gas on the ground but i can smell fumes off and one and sometimes under the hood. It is like i am losing gas pressure because car stalls and i am losing gas somewhere.

About 3 months ago my heater stopped working only from low to medium.if it is put on high it works no problem.the lights on the heater/air conditioning knobs have all stopped working as well except for the defrost light.the knob for the temperature control is also very hard to turn.i know i am not the only one.the driver side window has also decided to work when it likes.i know this is not the button because i have had to replace the button on the passenger window.why is it when the car is covered under a warranty they give you the run around but when the problem is not cover any more they want to charge a lot of $ to fix it?
When turning steering wheel there is a constant cracking sound, vehicle taken to dealer 8 times, steering column was replaced, but did not remedy the problem.consumer stated that there was clicking noise on all turns and grinding type noise, dealer found rear inboard brake pad rattling, lubricated sliders and put anti squeal on inboard brake pad backing, consumer was also hearing noise over bumps, dealer found rear sway bar misaligned. *yd

I owned until last night a 2000 dodge stratus, well now i am another fire victim i guess. Car was parked had ignition in the aux position to listen to music while i was cleaning up our storage area. Got into car to start it up and boom. First heard a pop followed by immediate engulfing fire under hood engine compartment. Whole thing burnt to the ground in less than five minutes. I have pictures if you need them. Thanks terri
My dodge stratus 2000, 65,071 mileage, caught fire in the engine compartment.everything under the hood "melted."the fire did not reach the inside compartment of the car.the firefighters were speedy at putting out the fire.there was smoke coming out from under the hood after about 10 min. Of driving. And a burning smell which i thought was engine oil. I took it to a dodge dealer for repair.they replaced the transmission pan, the valve cover gasket, spark plugs and belts.the car continued to smoke and, as i told my husband, i thought there was like sooty ashes being deposited on top of the hood.i assumed it was burning off the old oil that had spilled on the engine.after two days of driving i called the dodge dealer in the morning when i confirmed that the car was still leaking transmission fluid and oil and still smoking.they said to bring it back on monday.i went home that evening, picked up one child from day care and then we both went to pick up another child from her after-school place.we walked out about 12 minutes later and half the street was engulfed in thick smoke.i could see fire under the front of the car.we ran back in and called the fire dept.my insurance investigators could not determine the source of the fire because everything was melted in the engine compartment.they totaled the car.the dealer said leaking oil does not cause fires.they believed it was electrical.
Vehicle shut down. Consumer got out of the vehicle and saw there was a fire under the hood. Fire department arrived to put the fire out.vehicle was totaled.
Dt*: the contact stated while exiting the interstate white smoke came from under the hood and engine compartment.although the temperature gauge remained at a normal level the smoke persisted and the contact continued to drive home.once pulled over the hood was opened and flames shot out of the engine.the contact closed the hood.the fire department came, but the closed hood already extinguished the fire.a fire report was taken, but did not identify a source of ignition.the vehicle was towed to a dealer.the dealer did not replace the engine, but repaired the parts of the engine that were damaged by the fire.over a year later, under the same driving conditions, the contact noticed white smoke coming from the seam of the hood and fender.the contact immediately pulled over and called the fire department.the fire was extinguished and a report was filed, but againthey were unable to identify the source of the fire. The vehicle was towed to the dealer.the dealer did not replace the engine, but repaired the parts of the engine that were damaged by the fire.afterwards, the engine started but the vehicle didnot accelerate at a normal speed, and distributed a loud noise from the engine compartment.

I have my automobile routinely maintained, every 6-8 months, (oil, tune up,...)oil sludge baking in engine block-cylinder at 50,000 and again 114000. Corrosion build up & gunk in cylinder block, coils & spark plug corrosioncausing bad-strong order in automobile and sputtering, poor emission. Transmission slips from time to time at 25,000 and now again at 114000, with leaks which we can smell very strong in automobile.excessive brake lockage while attempting to break in normal-average speed of 25 miles. Constantly having to have the breaks repair although i have life warranty on breaks. Repairer states its the automobile. Safety belt does not always latch properly and has unlatched all by itself while im driving with my son, (6 yrs old). Drivers belt also unlatches from time to time. While driving i notice the car tens to sway to the right. I have had this auto aligned as well as, routine tire rotation, balancing, ect,...yet it still does this to date. Ball joints, struts wearing out at 25,000. I am tired of investing so much in this automobile. More than i really should have to. I also feel unsafe to drive this automobile. Should my automobile cause any sudden fire due to gunk in a hot running engine & transmission, i will file a law suit. As a consumer i feel that chrysler should repair my auto and reimburse me for all i have paid simply so that my son and i can feel & be safe driving in this automobile.
2000 dodge stratus engine failure loss of oil to lifters due to timing chain tensioner loosing oil from machining "flash" from manufacturer of engine.
After driving my car a friend went outside and seen smoke coming out from under the hood.she called me and i ran to the car and i seen fire under the front wheel's. Friends sprayed water on the hood and i opened it up a little and they sprayed the fire and put it out. By this time the top of the motor was burnt bad. Everything on top needs to be replaced, it was caused by the high pressure hose on the powersteering. I found out that it had a recall on the hose so i called dodge corp. And they gave me a case # and to take it to my dealer so i did. Then the corp. Office called me today and said it's been to long this should have been done by the last owner and hung up. I bought this car oct.14 of this year and this happened on the 31. How am i to know that this was going to happen in 18 day's. I paid a lot of money for this car and i think. The computer can tell you the recall and how to get it fixed; but you try to find somewhere on here on what to do when there is a recall and it done what it said it would do and you didn't know about it until it did it. I need help i don't have the money to fix it. I took out a loan to get it.
After an abrupt stop, the brake pedal went to the floor and braking ability was severely impaired.i went home immediately fearing for my safety.after an inspection under the vehicle, i noticed that a large amount of brake fluid in my driveway.looking more closely i found the leak in the brake line.it appears that the parking brake cable had worn a spot on the left rear brake line.this combined with corrosion had caused the line to rupture.it looks as if the factory was concerned because there was asoft 3" piece of foam rubber tubing over theparking brake cable where it contacted the hydraulic line.this foam rubber may have actually contributed to the corrosion by trapping water between it and the steel brake line.judging by the amount of rust stuck to the foam rubber i would say this is a fair assessment.chrysler dealers and the main office offered no recourse.after experiencing all this and many other problems from a vehicle purchased new, i can say that i will never pay for another chrysler vehicle again.if someone gives me one, i may consider the offer.p.s.other problems included:oil pressure sending sensor, transmission speed sensors, front wheel bearing, radiator, lower control arm bushings, an unresolved pulling to the right not resolved after new tires and wheel alignment, etc.
Car is having a misfire or some kind of flutter while driving. Check engine light comes on for flashes during this occurrence.
2000 dodge stratus engine fire.after parking the car in the driveway, i began to smell and see smoke coming from the engine of the car. Determining that it was on fire, i backed it out of the driveway (luckily the driveway was sloped) to get it a way from the house.
I don't know what happened the car caught on fire when i cut the car off.nothing was done to correct the problem.before the incident i had the car check for problem the computers at shop stated it was the 02 sensor.
Complaint about engine/oil light system.*mrthe consumer was driving the vehicle when it died out with little to no warning.(the oil light had come on seconds before the incident)the consumer was informed the motor was gone.the consumer was shocked because there was no dark smoke, knocking, nor did the oil light come on.the consumer requested a payment for the engine repair cost.*scc
After driving my vehicle a short distance to the local store, i parked my vehicle and entered the store.approximately. 15 minutes later the tag number of vehicle was announced over the intercom system, stating that the owner need to report to the parking lot immediately.i went to the parking lot to find that my vehicle was on fire under the hood.the fire department was called and was extinguishing the flames before i was able to get to my car. The fire department had broken the driver's door window to gain access to the hood release.the entire engine had appeared to be burned.the car was towed to rallye dodge in ocala florida where it was determined by our insurance company that it was a total loss.dominick, one of the mechanics at rallye dodge said that there was no way of determining the cause of the fire and the car could be repaired at a cost of approx. $5000.back on march 16, 2005, i hadto replace the pcm at the same dealer at a cost of $999.91. Now 7 months later i am out a $1000 computer and a $5000 car.what happens now?how and when will chrysler be held accountable for the poor engineering of their vehicles?

Transmission has a hard downshiftfrom 3 to 2 gear
Air conditioner blower fan switch only works on high speed, air conditioner does not cool when this has happened. Has been replaced 3 times and the problem continues--this creates a problem in the summer since i live in texas and the summers are very hot down here.also drivers side door panel has jammed sever times when it is opened, plastic clips holding door were coming off, this causes the door to jam on several occasions.
Driving down road and the tention pulley fell out . Also, driving after it was fixed car died when turning corner and will not start. Just bought 5 months ago.*la
2000 dodge stratus, had a leakage in the fuel line, in june 2009 and had it repaired, than transmission was going out, needed a new engine, car wouldn't go past 50mph without jerking and still was a gas-hogger, cost more to fix the car so had to have it salvaged couldn't afford the repairs, and my friend also had a dodge stratus same year and had the same problem i did and she also had to salvaged her car.
My spark plug just popped out of the socket while i was driving and it stripped the threads, this is the second time this happened to me. The first time i thought that the plug was not installed properly on cylinder #2, this time it happened on cylinder #3. I'm afraid that this could cause an engine fire due to the vehicle still spraying the gas into the cylinder and the spark plug will still fire igniting the fumes.
The consumer had the car for 3 years and it passed the emission test for 2 years through dealer ship. This year it will not pass because the check engine light did not come on when the consumer started the vehicle .
Ac blower only works on high speed, replaced resistor 3 times. Diode is blowing on resistor. This will be #4. Dealership doesn't seem to know what is going on. Im not the only one having this problem. Lets get someone to help us figure this out.*la
Air conditioner blower switch only works on high speed. Have had it fixed several times and goes bad after a short period.
Air conditioner blower fan switch only works on a high speed, unable to defrost vehicle in winter , air is too hot. Contacted dealer. Replaced part four times, but problem reoccurred.
At any given time, one of my three brake lights is not working.there does not seem to be any reason as the same light that was previously not working will work while a different one will be out without any work being done on the car to try to remedy the problem.some times, only one light is working or none of them are working.this is an ongoing problem.in addition, the transmission leaks fluid on a regular basis.i have had my personal mechanic to refill the transmission at least twice after less than 3,000 miles and hadhoses checked to make sure there were no apparent leaks.none were found.the last time the transmission was filled was at the end of may and it is jerking really hard again after it was refilled less than two months ago. That does not appear normal to me.
2000 dodge stratus, brought vehicle in for repair, it needed the gas filler neck replaced. Unable to find a replacement anywhere, auto repair place could not even find one anywhere in the country. I was also told they are on back order and will not be available anytime in near future. I have emissions test not to mention i have 2 kids that ride in the vehicle.this is shameful and bad business. And not to mention dangerous.

Fuel pump failure.vehicle stalled and failed to restart.had vehicle towed to mr. Tire but they were unable to determine problem and recommended to take it to my dodge dealer.dodge dealer service department determined the fuel pump failed and had to be replaced along with fuel filter.dealer unable to provide cause except that it failed.mentioned that my research showed that a number of nhtsa fuel pump failure complaints pointed to the connection.was advised that fuel pumps don't normally fail.$700.00 repair because warranty expired 5 months ago.

The fuel filler neck on a 2000 dodge stratus broke away from the body.it was noticed while refueling and the gas was spilling onto the ground instead of going into the tank.that was in november and the car has not been fixed yet because the part has been backordered.i am not complaining because of the inconvenience of not having a car for almost three months, but rather because if the part has been backordered for months then this appears to be a common problem, and since it"s related to the fuel system, a dangerous one.

Fuel tank was leaking i had to have a whole tank put in about a year ago.now the connecting lines from the gas tank to the gas cap are leaking.this i would consider highly dangerous and should never happen.i have two small children and this is our only transportation.
I had a 2000 dodge stratus se which caught on fire in my driveway after my daughter returned home with it. She came running inside saying it was smoking so when we went to look in was on fire, with flames shooting out of the hood. I call 911 while my husband and a neighbor sprayed the car with a hose. Everything under the hood was melted. When we called the dodge dealership they pretty much laughed at us saying yeah there is a recall for the pressure steering hose which can leak and cause a fire. But since you didn't come get it fixed too bad, but if you bring it in now we will replace the hose for you!!! after many calls to the main dodge number that is on the recall on their website they finally left me a voice mail stating we sent a notice too bad. I am so thankful that nobody was hurt. My teenage daughter had just gotten home from school. Itwould have caught fire there who knows what could have happened. I have lived in a different state since buying the car so that is why i didn't get the notice. It saddens me to think that is all they have to do is send out a notice when a fire will result if not taken care of, and they don't care.
Gas filler pipe is cracked and needs to be replaced. Has been on order for almost 3 months due to the tremendous amount that are on backorder.
Vehicle stalled at high speed. Had fuel filter replaced by dodge dealer in marietta, ohio. Dealer did not check fuel pump while tank removed from automobile. Fuel pump was cause of stalling. Invoice # docs155552
Design of the trunklight whichis attached to the body of the car, causing the trunk light to become extremely hot whenopening the trunk which, in return, caused items in the trunk to burn.this was a rental vehicle. The problem was reported to the manufacturer. .et.
Please tell me if there is an recall for the control that turns on the heat and the air?i had mine replaced and the knob that turns on keeps on breaking, now it only works on high, i also had the lights looked at on the inside of the car, the over head and the dash board, mileage i can't see because it said door is ajar. All this has been looked at by an dodge dealer and claimed to be fixed by them .but it's not, when i put a new fuse in it works for about ten minutes, then it goes out. There must be an short some where i don't know. Can't you please check into to this for me.
I had my brakes replaced at 23000 miles and every 3 months since.they are only wearing on the driver's side the worst but wear on both sides.the dealer stated it was because they were metallic.the brakes are extremely noisy with squealing and grinding sounds.i have had them replaced and have spend over 3000 dollar since i have owned the car and i am the original owner.also the left child lock is not working and therefore causes the door to only be opened from the outside.the handle when pulled from the inside has no resistance and this has been checked and everything is in tact.the problem has not been solved or fixed and i cannot afford the replacement part for the child lock.
About two weeks ago i was driving my car and when i went to let off of my brake pedal and i felt and heard a pop.i drove a little further and again stopped and when i let off the brake i heard and felt a grind and a louder pop that shook the car.it did this one more time before i got to were i had to go, and when i stopped my driver side rear tire was smoking and had an awful smell of burning rubber.thank good i had someone close to area to stopand come help.i had no brake on that rear tire, it was metal to metal, the cylinder was so hot there were no rubber boot left on it and the hub had seized.i had no indication of any of this, no squealing or anything it was pretty sudden.the emergency brake cable was sticking on the driver side and had to be replaced.the spring on the emergency brake cable was flat.all the other brakes were fine still looked new.i'm not sure what damage this could have caused but i have two small children who ride in this car all the time.i was also told buy the selling dealer that this vehicle has anti-lock brakes, after this problem i had someone looked over my whole brake system and they stated that they could not detect an anti-lock brake system there is a spot for a fuse but no fuse was there.i will never buy a dodge again.
Driving at 35 mph and stopping at a light a loud noise (clunk) was heard from the transmission area."check engine" light eliminated.returned to residence and vehicle would not shift out of first gear.vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer informed me that one of the speed sensors had failed.dealer recommended that both input and output speed sensors be replaced, drop transmission pan for inspection, and perform transmission flush.authorized the repair.contacted chrysler corp to inquire about power train warranty.was advised that the speed sensor was not part of the power train and the vehicle only had a 3yr/36,000 warranty on the power train.believe this is incorrect due to warranty book received with vehicle indicates that the power train module is 7yr/70,000.investigating further.believe that this sensor should be covered by the power train since it provides control to that component.
Starting march i had problems with turning the wheel and i took car to get oil and ask mechanic to check power steering fluid. Im told it is full and that they do not why i have turn the wheel as if i have no power steering. Each month i get someone checkpower steering and told it is full. I have to turn thee opposite way when getting out of a park. Sometimes i back inpark in order to get out. Then i start having problems with car making noise and car sound wheel going to break. Electrical problems..i have no horn, inside lights, air and radio due to i took fuse out because horn blowing, lights and locks going up and down.
Consumer was on a busy bridgewhentransmission started slipping, and it wouldn't kick into nextgear.odometer went down to zero. Vehicle couldn't go pass 15mph.vehicle was at dealer being inspected.
Dt*: the contact stated the transmission failed while traveling 55 mph on the interstate.the vehicle was towed to the service dealer who determined that the transmission had been rebuilt in the past and was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for repairs.
Auto transmission destroyed itself with only 45,000 miles on car. *nlm
The contact owns a 2000 dodge stratus.while driving 40 mph, the contact was notified that oil was leaking from her vehicle.she took the vehicle to the mechanic and he stated that there was a leak in the hose.when the mechanic took the transmission apart, he noticed that the case was cracked.the contact stated that this should not have happened to her vehicle.the current mileage was 36,915 and failure mileage was 36,907.
Auto makes loud whining noise at 30mph & above when pressing on the gas pedal...sound is suggestive of final drive gear shift problem...also when braking car frequently 'kicks'...told by welton motors representative who acknowledged the whining noise and 'kick' that these issues are typical in the stratus & present no problem. Question...if it is typical then why didn't i experience these same problems in the 1995 status which i owned for 4 years prior to buying the stratus 2000??
2000 dodge stratus, had a leakage in the fuel line, in june 2009 and had it repaired, than transmission was going out, needed a new engine, car wouldn't go past 50mph without jerking and still was a gas-hogger, cost more to fix the car so had to have it salvaged couldn't afford the repairs, and my friend also had a dodge stratus same year and had the same problem i did and she also had to salvaged her car.
Vehicle hesitates when shifting, transmission jerks.took vehicle to dealer 11 times, could not remedy. Dealer stated dodge knows there is problem, but does not know how to resolve it at this time.
While driving 45mph the transmiission slipped causing the vehicle to lose acceleration. Please provide anyj additional information. Ts
We have experienced problems with the transmission slipping out of gear, extremely hard down shift from 3 to 2, hunting for gears & hard shifting in general.vehicle has been in 5 times for repair attempt.at last attemp we were told that the manufacturer is aware of the problem, does not know how to rememdy and to keep driving the vehicle.additionally, we had to have the rotors replaced at 14,000 miles and are experiencing intermitent grinding as well as loud squealing from the back brakes daily.we have also had trouble with the power steering, hard starting in cold weather and a grinding noise when starting the vehicle.
Brake drums and rotors keep getting warped causing vibration, pulling and loss of pedal. Transmission erratic - drops out of gear at 45mph at least once a week.

While driving onhighwayat speed at 45 mph transmission jumped out of gear into neutral, causing vehicle tolose power.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge stratus.while driving 40 mph, the floor shifter suddenly shifted into other gears.the dealer stated that the failure was due to the floor shifter feature of the vehicle.the current mileage was 96,000 and failure mileage was 69,507.

Rear driver side seat belt is not retracting from its retractor.dealer replaced the retractor a year and a half ago, and the problem has recurred again.

2000 dodge stratus se rear passanger and driver side retractable shoulder seatbelts do not "catch" to properly restrain person. Angle of install prevents mechanism from properly working.proved to service manager duane nelson bonnevill & son manchester, nh 603-624-9280x558.duane called chrysler and was told that they designed it that way since rear passengers moved around alot or child seats were frequently used (therefore nullifying the restraint feature of the sholder portion).they didn't want the belt to be too restricting.furthermore chrysler stated that in a crash or hard stop the front of the car is forced downward and the rear upwards, resulting in the seatbelt mechanism being in a proper angle and engaging.seems like a very poor design as any other vehicle i have pulled on a seat belt with my and and it quickly catches.i have no faith in this and don't care to get in an accident with my children in back to find out if they are telling the truth or not!i was mortified after driving my childeren around for 3 years in this car that the seatblets were apparently defective.please see complaint number 10015524 as proof of this failure.

Ok my car makes a humming noise when i hit the brakes hard.its a loud humming sounds.i thought it just might be something wrong (everyday thing)but when i got another car that did the same thing it made me wonder. . .something must be defected.my last car was totaled. Someone pulled out in front of me. . and i sometimes think that the brake system had a defect.it seemed like for ever for my car to stop at low speed even.and the humming noise bothers me, its scary.i think its dangerous and it must be on more cars if this is my 2nd car with the same problem.2000 dodge stratus.please contact me and let me know. . .ps. . .i recently got this car (after i found out my other one got totaled)and i don't know of any past recalls that might have been done.thanks for your time!-robert mcfaddenps. . .please let me know something!.
I have had this car since oct. Of 2000 and about four months later, i was in an auto accident that was the other vehicle's fault.ever since then my brakes have not worked properly i have taken it to the dealer 4-5 times for vehicle failure to not stop in enough time and pulsating.the first two times i took it to the dealer they claimed the couldn't find anything even with a test drive. The third time they claimed my brakes were bad and replaced the brakes and not the rotors.after that the pulsating was not as noticeable for a few weeks then it was back to the way it was before. I had the dealer check them one or two more times and again they said nothing was wrong.shortly after that i had a small fender bender due to brakes not stopping my vehicle properly.i have to have my front and rear brakes changed twice a year, the front brakes go like they are made of paper, the rear brakes wear on one side more than the other.my outer tie rod have been replaced twice because they were broken, the rotors have been replaced 3 times.for the past two winterswhen i first start my car and turn the steering wheel, it screeches so loud and pops i think my tires are going fall off.i have two small children and find this very unsafe.when i have to come to a stop i have to almost stand on the brake pedal to make sure i stop in time.it is not always like this but 90-95% of the time it is and i know that my car is not the only one that this happens to.
Possible brake defect in 2000 dodge stratus. *mr there was a noise in the brake system.when the vehicle was started from cold, the brakes squeaked.after every start from stop, the vehicle pulled to the right.the dealer stated it was normal.this occurred intermittently in the front wheel linings at medium speeds when applied light to medium.this also occurred in the rear brakes. *scc

Brakes make a horrible sound each time applied, sometimes seems i have no brakes.i have had the dealership to check out every3 months. They say , they look like new and they will always have the bad sound because they can't use asbestos in brakes anymore.
I had tried several times to contact the additional insurance and the dealers and no one ever responded to me.. I replaced the brakes also before i had the accident.
The brakes on my car were squeaking about every other time i braked from the time i got the car, and the dealer could never duplicate the problem, until i had brought my car in for the six time and the brakes were squeaking as i pulled into the shop. The dealer replace my brakes at around about 5000 miles. I informed the dealer that when ever i drove my car and parked it, not only was the brakes still squeeking, buti also would get burning smell coming from the rear left wheel. I took the car back over 5 to 6 times and they still could not smell or dulicate the problem. I contacted daimler chrysler and inform them of the problems i was having with my brakes and the dealer not being able to find a problem, their suggestion was to take my car to another dealer since it is still under warranty. I was told by this dealer that my brakes were going to squeek, because they had to switch materials, that it road salt, it dirt from the road. I was given so many bogus excuses, that i decided to try another way. I need help. I afraid to drive my car because my brakes has already failed to stop my car once.

When i first purchased my vehicle, everything was normal as can be. I mean it had minor problems but were quickly fixed. After about 5 in a half months of having the car, i noticed it started having a burning smell to it after cranking up and after driving it for a while, a small amount of smoke would appear. At first i thought nothing of it, but then it ran hot one day. So i had the vehicle inspected by a certified mechanic. He concluded that it could be two things. One is that the smell was coming from the engine area but told me don't be alarmed because it may just be oil dripping on the engine in which when the engine is heated, could cause the smell and smoke, or two i needed my power steering hose looked at. So hearing it from someone of his status i went along with it. That is until a couple of days later while i was on my way home from playing basketball, i noticed smoke coming from under the, but this time it was dark black smoke and it was coming from all around the front of the car. So i immediately tried to pull over tothe side of the road (note:i was on a main street with heavy traffic), but when i tried the steering wheel would move/turn at all. Then suddenly before i could get out of the car, it just burst into flames. I struggled the car to the side of the road and jumped out until it rolled into a complete stop on the side of a police station. My car is totaled out. And i have been without one for bout 4 months now. Something needs to be done. Daimler chrysler had it picked up to determined the cause(2 months ago), and brought it back, but i am yet to hear anything else regarding my claim.

The wk 6-16-06 a letter from daimler chrysler came reg a safety recall e23-high pressure power steering hose.the week before 6-7-06, we took our car in for repairs to a local repair shop.what brings me to my complaint is, 7-10-06, another letter camestating they were unable to reach us.i don't see how it is possible, i gave 2 cell #'s on the letter i mailed.it records missed/incoming calls. I don't believe they made any attempts to call us.after receiving this letter my husband called daimler chrysler. While on the phone he was disconnected.i called them at right after at,8009921997 and spoke to cliff. She told me we were not going to be reimbursed.she stated the recall was over, and i think she said the deadline was 4-5-06.this couldn't be possible since we received the letter the week of 6-16-06.she said she couldn't help me.i told her i remember reading the letter and nowhere on the letter did it state there was a cut off deadline(which was beside the point, since we had just received it).i told her i was going to go pull my paperwork and call her tomorrow.i came home and pulled my paperwork.(i was really hopingi had kept the envelope, since it would have a postmark),but i only kept the letter.anyways, i re-read the letter.it is not dated (we have no idea when it was written)and the letter does not give a deadline/cut off date for repairs/reimbursements.how is it possible we aren't going to be reimbursed? i would like to make a point here, what if i had not had problems and had not done any repairs on my car yet (and without me even knowing it, my car may have been at the starting point of having problems?).does this mean they wouldn't have repaired it since the cut off deadline was over? i would like this situation to be investigated.we believe we're within our rights for reimbursement.i hope that your company can help resolve this and we can get our money back for the repairs we've already paid for.thank you, call me to further discuss my situation.

I panicked as i was trying to get my 2 year old son out of the car.the doors auto lock when you take off and hit 10 mph.two gentlemen came whipping in the station and helped me.his son called 911 and he got in my car to move it away from the pumps.he could only move it 5 feet because it was so hot in the car from the flames.the sheriff showed up and slammed into the back end of my car and moved it away from the pumps maybe 20 feet now.by the time the fire department showed up at least 5 minutes have past and my car is in major flames in the front end.the fire department put the flames out but my car could not be saved.the whole front end is damaged beyond repair.electrical system and everything.because of this fire my son and i were stranded in floodwood, mn about 1.5 hours from home.luckily my brother- in- law lived in that town and we stayed there until someone could come and get us.it was a very traumatic day, trying to get my son out of the car and then watching as my car burned up and i could not save it.i believe that the power steering may have been the cause of the fire.

Dt: contact owns a 2000 dodge stratus. The incident happened on september 28, 2005. Front end tie rod ends came apart from the wheel. Had no warnings signs that anything was wrong with the vehicle. Contact's 171/2 year old daughterwent to pick up a friend, while pulling out fromdriveway the tie rod ends broke . As she was pulling out a friend'sfather heard the noise of the tie rod endbreaking . He checkedthe vehicle, and told her what was wrong with it. Vehicle was towed to contact's home. In the meantime contact found part available at advance automobile, andcontact's husband fixed the tie rod ends. No crashes. No police reports. No fires.
Front passenger tie rod on 2000 dodge keeps breaking. Have replaced tie rod 4 times, but 2 separate mechanics are telling us that the only reason that tie rods would break repeatedly is because of a defective ball joint. Tie rod has snapped next to ball joint every time. It is already cracked and about to break again. It has resulted in several near accidents for us and once being stranded at a gas station an hour from home. The last time it broke was november 2009. The ball joint is the original that came on the car.
When driving at low speeds there was a clunking noise.consumer contacteddealer, and they stated thatfront brake rotors were pitted and chipped. Also, there was a squeakingnoise.also, dealer replaced tie rods. Please provide any further information.
While driving at any speedbrake pads wore out excessively. Dealer replaced the front pads and rotors twice. Also, tie rods werereplaced twice .however, the problems recurred at this time.
While backing into a parking lot, a loud snapping noise was heard from the driver side front wheel.upon hearing this noise, the vehicle was unable to move more than a few feet, but was able to be partially parked in the parking spot.once parked and investigated, the tie rod assembly detached from the driver side front wheel.car had to be towed; tow truck driver was able to move/drag vehicle approximately 10 feet onto flatbed tow truck.left outer tie rod was replaced and vehicle front end was realigned.
While driving 65 mph, the driver applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.a loud squeaking noise was heard coming from the driver's side wheel. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic replaced both rotors and other brake parts.*sc the tie rods failed.

Drove car approximately 10 miles to store. Was in parking lot, pulling into a parking space, noticed smoke from under hood.woman in lot stopped and told me my car was on fire.backed out of parking spot to center of aisle. Car fully engulfed in flames within minutes.cause of fire not yet determined.
Driver's door jammed when it is opened, would open approx. 1 inch. Door panel was coming loose.plastic clips holding panelwere coming off.panel would shift, and cause jamming problem. Would need to kick from inside to open door. Had taken vehicleto dealership, and wasinformed not a safety issue.
The hood mat has a worn spot in it that goes through to the paint from a hose that is rubbing it.my brother has the same kind of car and his is like this as well
Dt:where the hood fastenedthere wasa leverin the outer skin of the hood where it was not molded properly. They did not have enough metal to mold itproperly. The paint rusted through where it could cause the latch to come undone and the hood file up. Noticed this on all 2000 models, and on consumer'svehicle on september 7, 2005.
Vehicle makes noise while going over bumps.also, blower motor only works on high.
While driving down a side road at around 25mpg, the left front wheel made a pop sound and abruptly stopped. When my daughter got out to investigate she saw that the wheel was folded under the car. She had it towed and we learned the tie-rod control arm failed and broke the shaft. Thank god she was not on the highway. We paid 1200.00 dollars to get her back on the road and 4 months later the passenger side is now making a loud squealing sound when you turn the wheel. Now i learn that it seems the whole front end of these cars are defective and dangerous! oh, and the heat stopped working and will cost 500.00 to fix.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge stratus. While driving 30 mph, a loud grinding noise emitted from the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact coasted to the side of the road and noticed fluid coming from the front passenger wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lower control arm and ball joint fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 197,000.

Lower ball joint/ control arm defective. No extenuating circumstances or unusual wear on the vehicle to precipitate this problem. The same defective part was seen on other 2000 dodge stratus vehicles with applicable recalls. My vehicle has the same problem but based on my vin number the recall does not yet apply. The problem has been diagnosed at steve white dodge dealership in newton, nc. The parts are still in place on my vehicle at this point.

Have had this 2000 dodge stratus which daughter has driven for 5 years now it is on it's fourth transmission since purchasing and numerous other repairs, all soft plugs replaced, originals were made from pot metal, replaced with brass.numerous alignment problems. But just last month daughter was driving and noticed a severe scrapping noise all of a sudden, she thought it might be brakes wearing out. Upon inspection it was the lower control arm rubbing against the inside of the front passenger side wheel. Lower ball joint had given away and the entire control arm was now resting inside of the wheel.2000 & 2001 dodge stratus unsafe at any speed.
The consumer noticed a winding noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle started shaking uncontrollably.the consumer was able to drive it to the dealer.the mechanic informed the consumer that the upper ball joints needed to be replaced.please provide further information........

This vehicle is owned by the state of virginia: i operate this vehicle in conjunction with my position with the government.since being assigned the car, i have had more than a dozen instances of the gas pedal "sticking"; i have had our state vehicle maintainance people check the accelerator pedal; it was sprayed with a lubricant.when beginning acceleration from a stop or after braking, either the pedal is not compressing or the vehicle is not responding at initiation, then suddenly lurches forward.while on an exit ramp, this caused me to bump a vehicle in front of me at approximately 3mph - the increase in speed from a near stop to the vehicle's speed at a "lurch".the vehicle did this again leaving from the accident, and will be sent to state maintainance for evaluation.
Vehicle accelerated suddenly and unexpectedly. Dealer has inspectedvehicle and was not able to duplicate or correctproblem.
Chronic failure in blower motor for the heating/ac.unit has model specific problems with overheating presenting a fire hazard as well as a driving hazard.blower motor overheats causing malfunctions in the transistors and/or the diffusers which in turn causes the heating/ac fan to malfunction which makes driving dangerous when defrost or defog is needed.replaced three times in and out of warranty.jb
Blower/resister has been replaced 3 times and needs to be replaced once again.after a few months, the fan only works on high setting which is very annoying and inefficient.it was first replaced in 2004 and worked untilrecently when stopped working at the lower levels and was replaced in (2006) may, then august and stopped working again in october.

Windshield wiper on front driver's side window does not cover entire window, close todriver's side windshield. This problem has leftside windshield full of snow. Dodge has been contacted.
Our dodge stratus had 38,000 miles on it when the switch controlling the wiper blades/washer system failed while driving. The wipers and washer ran continuously. The wipers were stopped only by pulling the 30 amp fuse under the hood. The pump supplying washer fluid to the windshield could not be stopped at all even after it ran out of fluid. While the failure did not cause an accident or injuries, the failure could have led to one with a less experienced driver. The cost of the repair and the switch was $290.00. Neither daimler/chrysler nor the selling dealership would cover the cost of any part of the repair even though the car was just 2000 miles and one month beyond warranty and clearly occurred as a result of a defect. I am reporting this incident in the event that any other owners experience a similar problem.
