My girl friend came home and said the car was smoking so i went to look at it and yes smoke was coming from the firewall side of the motor right above the exhaust manifold .i did some research and found a recall on the high pressure hose for the power steering pump so i called the number given and chrysler set me up with haddad dodge in bakersfield california we set an appointment for the repairs to be done, i brought the car to them and they kept it for 4 days i called them about the car and they said it was ready i picked it up later that afternoon drove approx 6 miles home it was smoking slightly but no where near as bad as before so i thought nothing of it , maybe just residual from before the repair.the following morning i drove from real rd to fair view ave and the car was smoking heavily i stopped in front of a friends house opened the hood and there was a fire burning on the back side of the engine luckily there was a garden hose hooked up out side the house , i grabbed that and put the fire out . Could smell fuel heavily parked the car and have not moved it since just a week ago about a month after all this haddad dodge left me a message saying that my parts had come in and they would like to set an appointment for the work to be done . According to them they had already done the work no body told me that the work was not complete quite the con-trary i was told it was fixed and ready to go the service attendant was so busy on his phone and cell phone he hardly spoke a word to me i had to find the car in there lot so i could go home , why would anybody in there right mind let someone drive a car that could catch fire.

My horn goes off when turning the steering wheel,it started about 3 weeks ago, had the horn disconnected ,have a new battery and it goes dead over night,my mechanic said it may be a short in the steering wheel by the air bag. This is the second time this has happened. Lost all instrumentation: speed, fuel, rpm, etc,at 50mph.just prior to this, the abs light came on.the first fix included a new battery last year, three alternators until one worked (do not think this was the problem), and some kind of a harness which was rubbing on the engine? and creating a short.this problem could be the reason for all the car fires.thank you.

Intermittently during hot weather instrument panel would go out. Power accessories, such as door locks/windows and windshield wipers became inoperative. Vehicle has been to the dealer and dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.

On thanksgiving day of 2005 i picked up my 74 year old grandmother, who is blind to go see my mom, who lives about an hour away from me.as we were approaching my mother's house, i heard a popping sound from what appeared tobe the power steering hose from my 1999 dodge chrysler stratus and the steering wheel locked up.smoke and fire started coming out from under the hood.i stopped the car and put it in park and shut off the ignition.i froze for a couple of seconds and realized we had to get out from out of the car.i went around to get my grandmother out and the locks went down automatically.i opened her door and told her to get out, hold on to me and run as fast as she could.she asked me what was going on and i told her the car was on fire and could blow up.we started running and screaming for help.people came out of their houses and two men tried to put down the fire but to no avail.after a while, the fire dept and police arrived.the fire dept. Was able to put out the fire but the car's front was completely consumed.the fire inspector told me he had heard of similar stories with this car.i called chrysler corp in puerto rico and they told me i have to wait for an inspector from chrysler comes down to puerto rico and inspects the car to see if they are liable or not.meanwhile, i have to pay for a tow truck to bring the car to wherever it is they will inspect it and also, the lady who took my complaint at chrysler said if they find there was a defect, i have to wait to see what chrysler decides to do about it.i have no car, my nerves are shot and my grandmother is a nervous wreck.this is extremely frustrating waiting for chrysler to contact me to see when they will be able to inspect my car.please help!!!!

Interior fan switch failure re: dodge status 1999the fan speed switch in the dash has lost speeds 1,2 and 3.only position 4 (or high) works. After a very expensive replacement service, it failed again around a year later.again, it only blows on high speed.until this morning when my elder dad called to tell me he need to have his switch fixed on his dodge caravan 2003, i began to wonder how wide spread the issue was.i began looking on the internet to find many people complaining about the same problem.there are numerous complaints from customers of various chrysler models that are experiencing the same problem with the switch, resistor, or sensor.i believe there should be a national recall on the issue and customers should be compensated for repair already performed.here are a few related problems & complaints from vehicle owners.http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl547f.htmhttp://www.topix.com/forum/autos/dodge-durango/tmlimgpd8aaksoknshttp://www.myhonestmechanic.com/articles/dodge-dakota-air-conditioner.shtmlhttp://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/intrepid/1999/ac_heater/blower_fan_switch_stopped_working.shtmlhttp://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0dac8b/132http://free-auto-repair-advice.blogspot.com/2008/06/blower-motor-stays-on-highcaravan.htmlhttp://www.dodgedakotas.com/boards/dea/62-3.htmlhttp://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6453105thank you in advance for your assistance and speedy resolution. I have had ongoing problems with this vehicle in the one year i have owned it. Ive spoken to the dealership and they refused to assist. I most recently had as bazzar experience the day i went to the dealership to get my house key . My key was in the ignition as i was removingkey, i fet a mild shock traveling through my arm then into my watch which maintained a vibration for a log time and eventually causing it to never work again this was an odd occurence becouse i was noticing other starange thing in the vehicle .such as my odometer suddenly accumulating mialeage at a unbelivable rate prior to my scheduled repair appointment at the dealership, (for an oil leak) that ended up being a blown head gasket(that incedently was not under warrenty) becouse of the milage. ) first they claimed i was 200 miles over then someone said 14 but was finaly recorded as 7 to portfolio (my extende warranty provider.) please keep in mind that i informed the service writter of the odometer occurence and of a buzzing sound i heard in the steering wheel and other electrical experiences. All of which were just brushed off. Furthermore, please note that my vehicle was under the warranty mialege when i made the appoitment and i was never told that it had to be under the mialegae when it arrived. (actually i do believe i was under the mileage when i arrived) so i ended up paying out of my own pocket approx 400.00 dollars. Only to have my air bags deploy suddenly for no apparent reason. Which i feel caused me to hit the center island of a busy street, suddenfacing on comming traffic. I was able to manouvere the car over another curb to a safe area. Now moss br dodge in san bernardino reuses to except responsiblity even after i had coplaid about the strange bussing sounf that could be heard in the steering wheel months before this happended. Now im struggling to repair my car . Please if you know of any attorney or recorse i can take please inform me. Sincerely [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (

Ongoing problem with3.8l v6 engine overheating. Dealer andmanufacturer have been notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Car was serviced on 09/07/02.on 10/14/02, looked up to see temperature gauge in the "h"running hot.no warning, no dashboard light warning.pulled to side of road, car cooled off drove home. Popped hood, coolant in reservoir and checked oil, oil in engine.next day, 10/15/02, started car, started fine.noticed the temp gauge was not moving off the "c" for cold, no heat coming from the heater started off to work. Was doing about 68, when car immediately started to decelerate and immediately the little "red genie looking oil lamp light" went on.immediately pulled to side of road as car was obviously loosing power.called for tow truck. Car was towed not to the selling dealership because of on-going service problems, but to another dealership.i authorized them to check the engine. They did a compression testand told me "blown head gasket." but they could not tell if any more significant damage was done without tearing down the engine.car was towed two days later to selling dealership.engine was torn down.their response, "engine overheated" doing severe damage to engine.no mention of a head gasket being the cause of the engine overheating.dealer offers to do nothing.it is now november 3, 2002 and i still have not been given any opinions or prices to repair this vehicle.daimler chrysler was notified.i received a call from the dealership and daimler chrysler on behalf of the district manager who say "they will do nothing to assist; won't even come look at the car.i now have a 3-1/2 year old car that is undriveable.this is a car that has had its share of engine related problems in the past.in researching the internet, the nhtsa, the center for auto safety and just under dodge defects, i note that the stratus, cirrus and neons have a long, long history of head gasket problems.dt

I have a 1999 dodge stratus with a leaky head gasket. I was told by many mechanics that this is a common problem on these cars. When i went to dodge about it they said that they knew about it and that the new model stratus' had been fixed. But with all that i have read it seems that they say this every year and these cars still have the same problems. I don't have $1200.00 dollars to fix their mistake and poor craftsman ship. I put at least a quart ofoil in every four days or so. When everi call and ask about what they would do to help their answer is, that it is my problem and i have to pay to fix it. I had to post-pone school this semester because of this car. I go to school an hour and a half away and i can't worry wether or not it will make it. I don't feeli should have to put my education on hold for this. It is very frustrating. I don't have the money to fix it and make the outrageous $320.00 a month payments and insure it. If this car breaks down i am out of luck. I would have no other means of transportation and i would be stuck paying for a car that doesn'tgo. I have read that this problem can lead to engine fires. This is very dangerous and should be investigated. I am afraid my car will catch on fire when i am driving and i shouldn't have to worry about that.

Consumer stated vehicle leaks oil due to blown head gasket. Dealer contacted.nlm

There is an oil leak (from the head gasket) on my 1999 dodge stratus. I was told by the mechanic that every dodge stratus that he has seen with an oil leak has been coming from the head gasket and i have heard other stratus owners complain of the same problem.

Vehicle was going 55mph on the expressway when temperature gauge dropped tored.vehicle was pulled over due to oil leaking on the ground. No other signs indications that vehicle was having a problem. Vehicle was diagnosed as having a blown head gasket.dealer was notified. Please provide more information.

Multiple failures, continually steering problems. Engine leaked oil, no a/c or heated, ect. The consumer stated that the steering wheel was loose.the consumer attempted to make a left turn and hit the curb due to the loose steering wheel.the consumer stated that there might be a problem with the right side axle. *tc

A fire started under the hood of my car (dodge stratus 1999) after i parked it after driving for about half an hour.there was no prior indication of anything amiss.fire department put out the fire, but i am told the car cannot be repaired.i have had regular maintenance on this car.

My 1999 dodge stratus has a head gasket oil leak with only 43,000 miles. It will cost $800 to repair. After doing extension research, i discovered that this is an ongoing problem with dodge stratus.now i have read that this could be fatal to dodge owners due to the fire risk. I would like to see an investigation of the dodge stratus and to have a recall issued.

Vehicle is unsafe to drive and cannot be driven in a normal manner. Note: this is car has a manual transmission.all throttle (gas pedal) movement, acceleration or deceleration is followed by a < second application of full power or full deceleration, followed by the reverse application of full deceleration or full power, respectively, until the computer figures out what to do. At no load, e.g. Cruising at 65 mph, especially on a slight slope, the computer never figures out what to do. The whole system goes into oscillation, with < second alternate applications of full power then full deceleration, then full deceleration, for as long as a constant throttle position is maintained. In all cases, the engine winds up on its rubber motor mounts with a thump that can be felt throughout the car. This is so severe that the shop supervisor at the dealer was going to try replacing the motor mounts.

On 31/1/01 there was a headgasket leak and under the warranty it was replaced.on 11/6/01 i was travelling at about 15 mph when i noticed my temperature gauge had passed the "h" the mark. I immediately pulled over and put my car into neutral and turned the heater on maximum. The engine temperature went down about 1/3 of the way from the top but went back up when i tried to drive. I had my car then towed to prevent any further engine damage.

Motor mount bracket broke while driving.dealer has been notified. Please provide additioanl information.

My son drove his 1999 dodge stratus back to his college dormitory when he saw smoke from under the hood.he pulled into a parking space just before fire erupted from under the hood.the fire totaled his son's vehicle as well as damaged an adjacent vehicle.

The vehicle stalled and would not restart.

My wife drove about 25 minutes to a flea market.bystanders there told her that there was smoke coming out from under the vehicle.when she stopped, they told her that her vehicle is on fire and to get out.she immediately got her children out.a man there popped the hood and saw that the engine compartment was on fire.the vehicle was totaled. The vehicle ran fine the day before.

While driving and no warning the rpm is racing and the consumer cannot go over 35mph. Dealer notified

1999 dodge stratus with malfunction/defective head gasket. *la

Took my '99 stratus to my mechanic for an oil leak.i was told it was a head gasket problem and that is common in that year.did some research on the internet and found a number of complaints confirming this.i called dodge and they deny having any knowledge of the problem.when i told them about the complaints on this and other sites he again denied any knowledge of it.i was told that it's my problem not theirs.after this experience there is no way i will ever buy a chrysler product again and i don't think anyone should.

Oil light was flashing on.took vehicle to mechanic, and mechanic stated it was a head gasket leak. Please provide any further information.

Engine head gasket was replaced by the dealer on two occasions within 10 months, andcurrently problem with coolant leaking is reoccurring. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

Consumer experienced head gasket failure.other failures included rear seat belt problems, no power on the back windows, egr valve failure, transmission shifting problems and speed sensor failure.

Head gasket failure, when called the manufacturer they stated that i will only need to pay a deductable and that chrysler will pick up the rest of the bill. Is seems to be an on-going issue with dodge stratus'. If the manufacturere readily agrees to handle the situation maybe they are utilizing the secert warranty or the adjustable warranty. Went on line and noticed this is a wide spread problem with dodge stratus'.

Vehicle had developed a constant oil leak.before taking to dealership for review, we did extensive research on internet & determined that head gasket issues were highly evident in the stratus.numerous records also indicated that chrysler was well aware of issue, although no formal recall had been done.upon taking to dealer, diagnostic confirmed head gasket needed replacement.total cost was approx. $700 & we had to pay $511 of it.prior to paying, made several calls to chrysler trying to solicit a higher level of assistance on it.csr reps gave indication that my request was plausible, but dealer service mgr. Continued to only approve orig. $200 of assistance which supposedly chrysler dist. Mgr. Backed up.i have not been given any satisfaction on trying to contact the dist. Mgr.ongoing high level of complaints on this same issue should warrant recall and chrysler backing full cost of repair.i'm continuing with several consumer agencies to recoup my $500, including looking into small claims court.

After several attempts to stop oil leaking from my car, it was discovered that the car needed the head gasket replaced.the manufacture states this part is out of warranty.i have seen where several people of complained about this very problem and i am wondering what recourse i have to get my money refunded.i have spent $700.00 in repairs.dt

Popped hood, coolant in reservoir and checked oil, oil in engine.next day, 10/15/02, started car, started fine.noticed the temp gauge was not moving off the "c" for cold, no heat coming from the heater started off to work. My 1999 dodge stratus vin # [xxx] 2.4 liter motor had a bad fuel pump. Upon replacement my mechanic notice that the sensor wiring that connects to the pump inside of the gas tank had burnt up and melted . The only thing that possible kept the vehicle from blowing up was the gas cap was on tight and there was no air in the tank. Experienced several instances of vehicle stop and stall during at various speeds over the past 3 weeks.we treated the gas for possible water, changed fuel filter, but problem persisted.ran checks and determined it was a fuel pump problem. I removed the oringinal pump and noted that the wiring was bare and burned all the way through to the inside.i saved the pump to show, and will contact dealer tommorrow.i noted several similar complaints on your site, this is very scary considering what could happen with this problem, i think everyone who owns this car needs to check this out. This seems to be a manufacturer problem, is there any recourse to be taken or way to recover associated costs? please notify of any information.

I bought a car in jan 2020 which has been sitting a few/couple years and i found 3 recalls on it. 1999 dodge stratus 2.4. I emailed u s customer care/ dodge customer care and got mail back stating yes on 3 recalls and a dealer in reno nv to call. I called and service and parts dept said yes on recalls. Bring it in to check and advise to fix. Got mutil mailsfrom customer care stating they had car under last owner and i told them i was new owner. Next mail was, claim/s are closed. I asked why now 3 times and no answer except a take survey. No service or repairs have been done on this car other then to find out there was 3 recalls and now customer care doesnt want to do anything to fix this car. I dont understand how one day there is and the next day claim closed. The only difference is i am a new owner. One recall is for a fix power steering hose so car wont catch fire. While the vehicle is running or in drive if the emergency brake is not on .the vehicle will accelerate on its own.the dealership is aware of the problem. Mr

Transmission will not shift into another gear. Vehicle will shift into park and reverse without any problems.dealership informedconsumer that this defect was caused from an internal problem within transmission, which will resuled in transmission being rebuilt atconsumers expense.originally going to charge consumer $1900.00, but changedprice to $800.00.please provide any additional information.

The problem with the brakes is that they do not stop the car. It feels like when you hit the brakes that the transmission won't disengage.it may not really be a disengagement problem but the brakes have never been good at stopping the car. When you hit the brakes the car nosedives but feels like it won't stop. It is like you have to get out of the seat and stand on the brakes. The feel is like the old brakes that had heat build up. You would get that outgassing that would resist pedal pressure. This has resulted in many near accidents and finally an accident. I also drive a pick up truck and those brakes work much better. I beleive there is an inherent defect with the brakes.it is also possible there is a frame problem. I don't see how a less than 10 mph accident could crush the hood and the front end to over 2600 bucks of damage. No damage to the car i hit except for a couple of chips in the paint on the bumper.

While traveling, transmission would not shift into next gear correctly. Would suddenly slam into gear, and cause vehicle to jerk forward. Rear brakes make noise.consumer states steering wheel lock up.windshield washer is not working. Rear bumper is coming loose. The vehicle also has noisy a suspension.

Vehicle would not shift out of first.engine check light illuminated, and vehicle would shift to second gear.consumer could not get over 20 mph. Consumer feelsvehicle may be rear ended. Dealer has been contacted.please provide any further information.

Five incidences where the car will not shift out of 2nd gear. This happens when the car is placed in drive. It lunges forward because it is already in 2nd gear. Will not shift into 1st or 3rd gear from there. Auto stick is stuck in 2nd also. This causes the "check engine" light to be displayed. Three different dealers replaced shifting sensors, soleonoids in transmission, replaced seals. After last repair, car made it one block before problem arose again, and this time the speedometer did not move from 0. The car was obviously not test driven before we were called to pick it up. This problem has cost me lost wages with no way to get to work.

Transmissionwas repaired, alomost one month later the transmission brain has now gone out.

On two separate crashes car came out of park and into reverse. First time broke mirror off of drivers door, thought maybe didn't have it all the way in park until one week later car was in park got out while car was running with two passengers inside after about 5 minutes with me standing in the door car kicked out of park and into reverse running me down. Door got stuck in dirt and bend backwards crushing the fender. Called one dodge dealer and they denied there being a recall on the transmission and was told it was impossible for car to kick out of park and into reverse. Called a second dealer and was told yes there had been a recall and he looked up my vin # and said my car had been repaired. My husband said that it was possible to take car out of park and into reverse without the key being in and unlocked. Car can also be bumped into neutral while driving on highway.

I own a 1999 dodge stratusand it has one hundred forty three thousand miles on it and the transmission started pouring out trany fluid and they tell me i need to replace it, i did all scheduled maintainances on this vehicle and i find it hard to beleive i need to replace the transmission so soon.

I discovered recently that the transmission can be shifted into drive without the brake being depressed.this was discovered accidently, almost resulting in the vehicle rolling away.it can be shifted only when the ignition is in the on position, but is locked when ignition is off.

Whilevehicle was being driven a rattling noise occurred underhood. Shortly afterward, vehicle completley shut down due to a malfunction withintransmission.please give any further details.

The contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus.the contact stated that when she attempted to accelerate, the vehicle felt as if it would stall and failed to move.the failure has occurred every day since the vehicle was purchased.she also stated that the vehicle would not start when the key was turned in the ignition.she has not taken the vehicle to the mechanic.the current and failure mileages were 69,000.

Consumer letter regarding the safety recall for the transaxle floor shifter ignition / park interlock.*mrthe consumer has already sent in the necessary paperwork regarding a reimbursement.

My wife took in our 1999 dodge stratus for recall work on the ignition park interlock.shortly after that i noticed that the car would sometimes go into gear without putting your foot on the brake. I called the dealer who done the recall work, and they informed methat was not part of the recall. I then called the dodge customer service line, and she told me that i would have to take the car to the dealer at my own expense. My question is , should this not be a safety recall dodge should look into?

Dt: the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. The contact tookvehicle to the dealership for service on september 13, 2005 for nhtsa recall 04v021000 repairs. Recall was corrected, however, they charged thecontactfor cylinder lock/ignition lock, new key, and recoded cylinder, whichtotaled $406.00.he called the dealership, and they told him that these repairs where not covered in the recall, and that they had to be done to do the recall repairs. Also, contacted the manufacturer, they told him that there was nothing they could do.

Safety recall pertaining to the transaxle floor shifter ignition/park interlock.*mrthe consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have the recall work done.the vehicle was returned to the consumer and the consumer believed the vehicle was fixed until it began to perform poorly.the vehicle was returned tot he dealer the next day and after three hours the technician indicated that the problem could not be fixed until a part was ordered.the consumer contacted the manufacturer.the customer service rep indicated that the paperwork had already been submitted claiming that the recall was done. The consumer feel the dealer is shady.the consumer had to wait an addition 2 weeks for the part to arrive.

After driving short distances (under 15 miles) the park shift interlock does not engage.ignition key will not turn all the way to the off position, can not be removed, and the shifter can move freely without depressing the shifter button.shifter button becomes soft and does not lock.this can occur with or without engine running.this began happening after safety recall #04v021000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:floor shift) was completed.

The contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus.the vehicle caught fire while parked in a parking lot.the vehicle was smoking approximately one month before the fire.the vehicle was destroyed and both a police and fire report were filed.the dealer stated that the smoke was due to power steering fluid entering the engine.there were two safety recalls on the vehicle:nhtsa campaign id number's 04v021000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:floor shift), which was previously performed on the vehicle and 06v001000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections), which was scheduled to be repaired.the purchase date and powertrain were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 140,000.

Consumer experienced head gasket failure.other failures included rear seat belt problems, no power on the back windows, egr valve failure, transmission shifting problems and speed sensor failure.

I failed to mention on my complaint 10003001 that i had taken my car in to be looked at due to 'popping' in the clutch.you could hear and feel this pop when switching gears.this issue would come and go - nothing was ever done about it. Why?b/c by the time i could get an appointment for my car the poppingwould stop.we never did get it where the mechanic could find the problem. This wouldoccur on an irregular intravals - and would last maybe a day - maybe up to 3 days and then quit.was able to get it to the dealership the first time it happened and the service guy and a mechanic heard it - but they could do nothing about it that day - gave me an appointment to return for them to look at it more completely- by then it had quit and they still looked it over - could not find anything that looked out of the ordinary.

On june 22, 2002 i was dirving my car to wv.half way there the transmission 'popped' out of 5th gear.i pulled off at the next exit in search of assistance where i found the transmission would not remain in 3rd gear either. In this small town i was unable to find anyone who could/would look at my car so i proceeded to charleston where my dad and a cousin who could look at my car were.it was found that my transmission had no fluid in it - so this was replaced with fluid as close to the original as possible so we could get back to richmond.all 360 miles i had to drive holding my gear shift into 5th gear or 3rd gear when needed in order to make it home.the dealership was wonderful!they said my clutch cable was broken and i had several oil leaks!they repaired everything and it was all covered under the power train warrenty.thank you for that warrenty!my car only had a little over 40,000 miles at the time.

The restraint belt will not "snug" up, nor will it lock in the event of a collision. Dealer has been notified.

On both rear and one front seat belt the lock that holds the seat belt tight in case of an accicent had "fallen off".making proper placement of a car seat nearly impossible.i have since had them replaced but still fear that others to whom don't know any different may have a unknown danger.i think that the lock itself is poorly made and should have some way to make it tamper resistant, or so they don't come off as easily as mine did.they are also not cheap to have replaced since you have to replace the entire seatbelt to correct the problem.jlg

Right rear restraint buckle has broken. The dealer will repairvehicle.

While driving 25 mph driver was involved in a collision.upon impact the front driver seat belt failed to retract.this caused the driver to sustain minor injuries, and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection.

Rear safety belts used to secure the child safety seat broke.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and said they've never seen anything like that before. Consumer also called the manufacturer, but received no assistance. Consumer was told that the vehicle was out of warranty.

Consumer experienced head gasket failure.other failures included rear seat belt problems, no power on the back windows, egr valve failure, transmission shifting problems and speed sensor failure.

In 1999 the manual seat height adjuster was dropped on all 99' dodge stratus's. A fixed seat was installed. The seat manufactured by chrysler's vendor is in a very high fixed position, so high that i at 5ft 7inches tall is only about 3 inches from the roof liner. My son at 6ft 1inch cannot drive this vehicle, his head is literally squashed into the head liner. I just cannot believe a seat to be manufactured this high as to pose a safety hazard to people over 5ft 10. I have contacted chrsyler twice on this matter to no avail. I have even asked chrysler if they would check my vehicle out and maybe my vehicle is a isolated incident, maybe they know something is wrong with the seat. The seat is so high that when the sun visor is pulled down it is lower that the drivers head therefore posing a safety hazard. I even went sofar and asked chrsyler for a power seat and i would pay the difference, they did not respond. This fixed seat was manufactured in a very high position and i think chrsyler is covering up or is waiting for more complaints. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thank you

Upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the rear passenger side wheel hub, wheel, tire, and brake drum were extremely hot. The contact independently changed both rear brake shoes, springs, and drums; however, the failure recurred. The contact independently diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.

I am have got nowhere with all my tries to get car recalls fixed. According to web sites the 3 recalls are listed as incomplete still to date. Meaning not taken care of to my understanding.

I got this next site to do again email. Claim #11301605 and following up as to your next step.3 recalls the dodge customer care people dont want to do or help me fix or conclude.

The vehicle's had multiple brake problems. The brakes squealed, the caliper was found cracked, the rear wheel cylinders leaked fluid and the rear brake shoes were worn into the metal of the drums, and the rotor(s) were found with a hard spot. *sc

Problem with braking system.

Vehiclehas had a continuous brake problem that still has not been corrected. While applyingbrakes, brake pedal feels firm or catches like it is slowing down to stopvehicle.brake pedal gets soft, goes to the floor, andcauses vehicle to roll. Mechanic has changed front and rear pads, but problem seemed to have gotten worse.it was recommend that consumer go to a dodge dealer to see if problem could be rectified.

While traveling at 30 mph consumer noticed abs indication light flashing. When depressingbrakes vehicle continued totravel, causing poor stopping distance. Please provide further informaton.

When applying the brakes the pedal did not movewhich causesd total brake failure. Abs brake warning light did not illuminate, indicating a malfunction within the system. Please give any further details.

While driving downhill step onbrakes pedal and with lack of braking, vehiclewill never stop.not a notice issued to be alerted.

While driving vehicle, and whenapplyingbrakes consumer smelt brakes burning.when consumer stopped and looked brakes were on fire.also, steering columnlocked.please add vin.

Brakes keep wearing out without warning. Consumer has changed brakes twice since owning vehicle.

Whenever brakeswere applied they would make squeaking noise. Brake pedal would go tofloor, resulting inextended stopping distance, almost failed to stop.

Brake failure.

Ran in the back of a trailer, due to brake failure, also damage to bumper

During normal operation of vehicle and whenpushing down onpedal, pedal would push back, andthere was vibration.consumer tookvehicle todealership, andcause of this defectwere warpedfront brake rotors.also, rear brake drums warped/ front andrear brake pads separated.this defect has been covered byvehicle's warranty. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

I bought my 1999 dodge stratus 2.4l in september 2006 from the original owner with 145,000 miles.in may 2007, i had the valve covers and cam sensor wiring replaced due to oil leakage and rotted wiring (unrelated to one another).the car seemed to slowly leak power steering fluid but the mechanic was unable to identify a problem.on 7/29/2007 after a 50 mile drive, the car caught fire under the hood in front of the driver's passenger compartment after being parked for a short time.the vehicle is a total loss.

1.during a regular motor oil change on a specialized center, they noted a low level of power steering fluid, and suggested me to fill the power steering canister.2.power steering leak over the manifold, white smoke came from around the hood after a trip.when i arrivedhome, a lot of white smoke and pieces of don't know what were on fire under the car.the mechanism to open the hood failed and we were not able to extinguish the fire.3.no time to correct failure, the hood.

Steering has become difficult at low speeds, like exiting driveways or parking lots or turning onto other roads. When driving straight, steering is fine.steering is very hard and the steering wheel jerks back and forth during a turn. Opinion of mechanic is failure of steering rack and pinion.power steering fluid level is correct.

Because of poor design of structure it is hard to have full view of rear as well front of the vehicle.yh

The paint on the front bumper of the car is falling off because it did not adhere well to the plastic.a large area now is only black plastic and paint continues to flake off any of the plastic parts.

While driving the vehicle i noticed a very loose sound coming from the lower left wheel.especially when going over bumps.i took the vehicle to les schwab company for a lookover and found that it needed upper and lower ball joints replaced, a steel arm replaced, as well as an alignment.when researching recalls on my 1999 dodge stratus i noticed the problems i was/am having with the vehicle were noted in similar situations involving recalls of other stratus'.my car should be fixed and included in similar recalls.thank you.

The contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus.the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle began to rattle and felt loose. The failure recurred multiple times. I was driving and hear a metal scraping noise from my front right side by the wheel when i turned left.before i got home the noise got extremely loud and constant.i took the tire off when i got home and found the ball joint was broken and was out of position cause a rubbing inside my tire rim.it looked like the arm of the ball joint had been burned through causing it to break.there seems to be a recall on some 1999 dodge stratus' ball joints but when i entered my vin# mine did not come up.they shouldn't just break from normal use.it was on the highway when it happened driving normally then the noise started and i felt kind of a pop and almost lost control of the car.

Hard to control steering of vehicle! whenever i pass over a speed bump feels like whole car is going to come apart.

Head gasket leaking oil much oil. Repair cost was excessive. Car is garaged and maintained very well.

Compressor blew out-car shakes hard now. Self adjusting brakes don't feel right, they feel weak. Rolling windows down takes away power to the car, or ac. 1998 dodge stratus. While driving,a tire recap came off of another vehicle and struck the left side mirror of the consumers vehicle. (ohio traffic crash report)

While traveling on interstate i85 in sc. The sunroof glass dislodged and flew off of the roof of my vehicle. The glass shatteredon the roadway and fortunately no other vehicles were struck.after further inspection and investigation it was clear that the glass had separated from the frame of the sunroof assembly.according to the manufacturers label, it was manufactured by vermeulen - hollandia serial number 399915. Apparently there is an open voluntary recall on sunroofs manufactured by this companyfor separation issues.the model numbers reference in this voluntary recall is model number 60000000 and above and apparently does not include the 3000000 series.since the issues are the same, i.e. Separation of glass and frame, there are clearly other safety issues still out there. Hollandia's voluntary recall is alleged to be for non factory installed products, however,my 1999 dodge stratus was purchased new from the dealer with this sunroof installed.

At highway speeds there are sudden and unexplained decreases of about 500 rpm and a minor reduction in speed.dealer is unable to resolve and warranty is about to expire.friend reports same problem with a chrysler sirrus and chrysler says cars were desgined that way.i consider this a safety hazard that deserves resolution.

When vehicle was put in reverse it accelerated suddenly and unexpectedly, resulting in collision, and causing minor injuries. Dealer inspectedvehicle, and was not able to duplicateproblem.

While vehicle was in reverse gear with foot still on t brakes, it suddenly accelerated, causing an accident.

Consumer pressed down onthrottle & it stuck tofloor.vehicle wouldn't stop even afterpressing brakes & pulling upparking brake. Vehicle continued to jumpcurve ontosidewalk back intoparking lot. Consumer steeredvehicle away fromwall.was able to turn motor off.vehicle was towed todealer. Also, manufacture documented theproblem.

I was stopping the car to park and suddenly it accelerated by itself, brakes didnt stop the car not even parking brake and crash ocurred damaging property and the car itself. Car was towed to dealer but cause was not found.

After coming to a stop vehicle would suddenly accelerate for no reason. Would have foot on brakes when this occurred. Had taken vehicle to dealer & thus far cause of acceleration not found.

With no ryme or rythem, the winsheild wipers fail to turn on, power locks fail to work and turn sygnals fail. Engine stalls and will not restart while in traffic for at least 30 seconds. These conditions happen while on the roadway and with children in the car , loss of ignition, winsheild wipers or turn sygnals can cause an accident or death.

Windshield washer/ wiper system failure - vehicle to dealer several times in last three years - dealer cut the washer fluid line to allow compressed air to blow out system - works for several days then plugs up again - it becomes a sfety hazard when you activeate the windshirld washer system at highway speeds and no fluid is dispensed - but the windshield wipers activate smearing whatever is on the windshield, causing very limited visibility.

Both rear view mirrors are power and will not go downward with power button.

Washer jets and hoses for windshield wipers are clogging and result in system failure to operate.this took three service calls to resolve and should be covered as a manufacture defect.i was forced to replace motor that operates the sprayers last year and the problem continued. Per dealership, this problem is known and has not been published which means owners are being forced to pay for defective parts.*nlm
