Thousands of other stealth/3000gt owners have this same problem.noted in tsb, should be repaired by manufacturer, major safety concern.

Airbag light is on continually, dealer needs to replace airbag sensors.

Airbag light is on continually, dealer needs to replace airbag sensors.

Srs air bag light stays on in for repair reset air sensors, problem still occur.tt

The design of the transmission and electrical system cause continued failure of these parts.thisis not an isolated occurrence, but a chronic problem with over 50% of all oweners.no replacement parts are made available for the transmission ,causing all failures to cost in excess of $5000.

After getting information off the web from other stealth owners, the 2 items reported are common problems. I have had 5 batteries in my car since 1991 and each one has died after a year. Electrical shops can't find anything wrong and was told i had bad batteries. One maybe but not 5! other owners reported the same problems. The second problem is failure of the automatic transmission after 63,000 miles. This cost over $2,600 to replace and i complained to chrysler to no avail. I had proof of the required maintenance on the transmission at 30,000 and 60,000 miles.there have also been many failures on the manual getrag transmission on the stealth and 3000 gt. Both cars are made by mitsubishi. I believe this problem is common only many people dont know where to report these issues. I hope that the dept will seriously investigate these problems. Thank you.

Valves are very noisy with no aperent fix.the motor has been rebuilt with new valves and replaced bad rollers rockers.made noise before and after rebuild.has aprox. 30000 on rebuild.

Engine locked up twice.

A tensioner pulley in the valve train mechanism failed, which destroyed the engine due to the engine not being designed with sufficient clearance for the valves in such an event.

Consumer states that timing belt tensioner failed whiled driving causing the vehicle to stall.

Transaxle froze up and busted and the synchronizers in the transmission are shot mistu/dodge only sells replacement transmissions not parts to repair original.and after contacting them and finding out this is very common both them and getrag have given us the run around.

Synchros failing. Chronic problem with these getrag trans -far too soon for a manual transmission.

I have a 1991 dodge stealth r/t turbo and it has had to have the transmisson and transfer case replaced twice, including the output shaft.clearly this is a defective design and can cause the car to lose control.

Transmission/transfer case locked up destroying carrier bearing and rear differential.i bought this car used and am not aware if this is the origional unit for this car. From what i have heard, many of these cars had transmissions/transfer cases replaced while still under warranty.

Transmission locked up/failed without prior warning.

Transmission failed causing vehicle to grind when shifting from first to second gear, no replacement parts available only complete replacement available.

As you are seeing, many of us are fed up with transmission failures.any problem constitutes replacement, costing $4000+.i have had 3 failures, all under 60k miles on the transmission, and one of which had been _professionally_ rebuilt.the manufacturer wants no part of this, but we love our cars and can't afford to keep this up.please do whatever you can to help us, all is appreciated.

While driving on freeway the transmission made a noise and the gears jammed, causing the car to lose power and the transmission to disengage and not run.

Owner states that transmission is leaking andthat there was a recall for this problem but his vehicle was not indentified. Owner is concerned about transmission locking up without warning.

While traveling on highway and without prior warning vehicle was leakingtransmission coolant from underneath th vehicle.dealership was aware of problem.

The transmission assembly is leaking and cannot be repaired. Manufactuer states a complete unit is required as they are not allowed to reseal it. This transmission has known defects and should be able to be serviced.

Transfer case seals failed allowing all transfer case fluid to drain from component.transfer case ran dry and could have seized up like many do.transmission has syncros going out which is a failure in the majority of transmissions produced on this car.transfer case seals were replaced and but transmission is still going out

Transmission output shaft (transfer case input shaft) spline failure.

Transfer case locked up after recall repairs.(93v-033).

Trans axle froze/failed causing all gears to lock up

Transmission syncros from 1-2 and 3-4 and reverse started grinding on shift, got worse, transmission started leaking. Was barely shiftable so aftermarket warranty company replaced, replacement tranny was "notchy" and slowly over 4 months has gotten almost as bad as the first. We've spent almost $5500 on new parts/labor to try to fix this. Also original tranny's 'output shaft' was missing teeth. Current output shaft giving similar "teeth skipping" symptoms under hard accelleration. Mitsubishi/getrag does not support fixing the tranny, we must buy an entire new tranny to fix the synchros which are very small portions of the otherwise fairly strong tranny. No support from mitsu, when we go to the dealers they say "oh, another bad tranny" and expect to see them all the time. Somethng needs to be done!

The 5 speed getrag manual tranmission used in this car has a history of failure.you need only visit the discussion groups at www.3si.org or www.3000gt.com to see how many owners are on their 2nd or 3rd transmission.mitsubishi/dodge changed transmissio

I own a 1991 dodge stealth r/t twinturbo.this car uses a 5 speed getrag transmission.the transmission is the first initial design with an 18 spline output shaft.my car had to be repaired because of transmission problems.the shop that did the work explained to me that the output shaft of the transmission was worn, and this was after only 25k miles of regular driving.i eventually had to replace the transmission and transfercase with mitsubishi's/getrag's revised version which featured a stronger 25 spline outputshaft.this repair/parts cost me upwards of 2500 dollars.i believe that its the manufacturers responsibility to have these transmissions recalled because of potential problems that could have happened had i been driving. I also feel its their responsibility because the transmission was obviously not adequate for the car, hence the newer design in late 92 and 93.

The transmission output shaft has failed for the second time on my 1991 dodge stealth rt turbo.when this failure occurs, power is no longer transmitted to the rear wheels which causes the car to "torque steer".basically even moderate acceleration can cause the car to unpredictably veer to the left or right.

The contact owns a 1991 dodge stealth. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the wheels seized and as the contact attempted to shift gears to unlock the wheels, the vehicle made a loud grinding noise followed by a loud explosion.the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the transmission transfer case. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number 02v143002 (power train: transfer case: 4-wheel drive), but denied assistance with the repairs due to the age of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 160,000.updated 04/10/12*lj

I was driving and when i went to put it into gear, car quit moving.

Power train/transfer case.transmission failure if common and expected on any year dodge stealth with turbo engine and manual transmission.

1st time it was replaced was because of 2nd gear synchro going out, (26,000) entire trans had to be replaced!2nd trans went out at 57,000, trans/case broke apart, 3rd time was for 2nd gear synchro again at 67000, 4th trans/trans case was replaced because of a bad cluster gear in trans. This puts me on the 5th transmission with 83,000 miles, every other stealth/3000gt owner i know has had the same luck with the drivetrain on their cars as well.

This is far to common of a problem for every twin turbo ive ever seen.there are no after market parts on the car, and it was not abused.i got lucky, others had all four tires lock up while driving, wich is seriously dangerous.mitsubishi has admitted that the getrag is faulty, yet does nothing about it.please, they dont even make replacement parts for the thing.it s a conspiracy. I have yet to meet an owner of a vr4 or dodge stealth twin turbo, who has not had transmission failure.since this is the case, how can they not be liable to recall these things, and fix what they know is faulty@!

The design of the transmission and electrical system cause continued failure of these parts.thisis not an isolated occurrence, but a chronic problem with over 50% of all oweners.no replacement parts are made available for the transmission ,causing all failures to cost in excess of $5000.

I can't believe that syncros on this car went out even before passing the 70,000 mile mark.i've talked to other stealth and 3000gt owners and they have the same problem. No safety defect mentioned.

I was driving down my block, stopped fully at a stop sign, accelerated gently and the outputshaft in my 1991 dodge stealth twin turbo snapped, causing the car to run front wheel drive for abit untilt he vcu burnt.i had to replace the whole transmission because it snapped.

Consumer receiveda recallnoticeconcerningthe transfer case. Tookvehicle to the dealer for recall repairs. But before he could get vehicle to the dealer transfer case locked up,causing shedding of the output shaft from the transmission. Thisfractured the transfer case, and all the oil leaked out.consumerindicated that at firstdealer told him that they would repair the transmission free of charge if the damage was found to be caused by the locking up of the transfer case.after waiting for about a week, consumer saw a district manager who told him that the damage was caused by the transfer case, but that they were not going to repair it freeof charge.

The consumer complained about a transfer case problem.at one time this was a recall for this vehicle.the consumer noticed oil under the vehicle after being parked for a while.the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.he was told that it was the transfer case.last year the consumer took vehicle to dealer recall repairs and was told by the dealer there was nothing wrong, so the vehicle was inspected only.recall 02v143002. *sc

Transfer case locked up and destroyed the transmission prior to receiving recall notification. Also, dealership failed to performrepairs for the brake recall 96v143003, but indicated that they did. Upon inspectionthe original part was still on the vehicle.

The contact owns a 1991 dodge stealth. Recall# 02v143002, power train, transfer case (4-wheel drive) is related to the failure that the contact has experienced. The oil leaks from the all-wheel drive transfer case which caused the bearings to be lock and damage the drive train. While driving 35 mph the vehicle became inoperable and was towed to his residence. The recall repair was performed; however, the failure recurred. The contact filed a claim with the manufacturer and it was denied stating that he had to pay for the repair out of pocket. The failure mileage was 110,000.

The transmission was replaced due to the defective transfer case.scc

The vehicle was taken to the dealer on 4/19/2003 for recall# 02v143002 subject: transfer case leakage.a week after, the rear wheels locked up and noise was heard coming from the transfer case.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer which stated it had nothing to do with the recall.the consumer insists that the dealer did not properly fix the transfer case.

I have a 1991 dodge stealth r/t turbo and it has had to have the transmisson and transfer case replaced twice, including the output shaft.clearly this is a defective design and can cause the car to lose control.

Dt:the contact stated thetransfer case is leaked.he foundnhtsa recall 93v033001.the manufacture said the previous owner had recallrepairs performed in 2002.the contact's vehiclewas experiencing the problem now.there have been no repairs made.

Seat belt came out of harness prior to recall notice.

Rear right seatbelt does not lock.tt

I own a 1991 dodge stealth r/t twin turbo version. My drivers side seat belt does not retract on its own, and there is consistently slack in the line while i am driving. I am concerned that upon impact with another object, my belt will not become restrictive and hold its place.

1. Seat belt will not retract, and remove slack once the seat belt is latched.---2. After buckling my seat belt, the seat belt will not retract. It will leave a large amount of slack between my body and the seat. In a wreck, if there is slack in the seat belt between the body and the seat, the seat belt will not be able to properly restrain the body. Resulting in serious injury, trauma, and possible ejection from the car, including the possibility of paralysis or death.---3.tried cleaning the seat belt hanger and the place the belt goes into the car, but this did not resolve the issue.---*there have been well over 250 failures, i can not give an exact amount of how many times i get in and out of my car over a course of time, so the number i put below is an conservative estimate. I have owned the car for almost 2 years now, and drive the car back and forth to work, and on errands.

Seat belt does not properly retract as it should.possible safety issue with seat belt failure in the event of a wreck.

Seat belt on both passenger/driver sides fail to retract.

Seat belts do not retract all the way causing them to possibly fail during an accident.

Seat belt fails to retract when in normal use, causing extreme slack and giving no restraint in the case of an accident.no amount of coaxing will help the belt retract.

My driver's side seatbelt does not work properly.when i pull it out to buckle up the extra slack does not get taken care of.it just remains loose and i don't know how well it would hold up in an accident.this seems to be most of the time but once in a while for some reason it will retract the extra slack.

Seat belt malfunctioned since i owned the car. On (may, 200) the seat belts in the front did not retract properly. Upon talking to other car owners they had similar problems.

I have a 1991 dodge stealth and the retractor for the seat belt no longer works.when you put on the seat belt in most cases the slack is not taken up. I have notbeen in an accident and i hope i'm not.

Seat belt does not retract, leaving slack while driving in both driver and passenger belts.

The seat belt do not fully retract, leaving a lot of slack. This makes me feel unsafe, since it is not doing its job. With the seat belt being loose, if i were to be involved in an accident, it would not belt me in, with all that extra slack hanging out. This has been a big issue for a long time.

The abs brake light stays on and the dealership says nothing is wrong.

Would apply the brakes (abs) to slow or stop, the brake pedal would continue to the floor. The vehicle would experience extended stopping distance. Does not happen often. Took to dealer & no problem was found.

Brakes failed resulting in vehicle collision prior to recall notice of brakes.

Consumer stated that the vehicle would not come to a complete stop when the brakes are applied or when the emergency brake was used.the mechanic diagnosed the problem as defective brake calipers. *nlm

Transfer case locked up and destroyed the transmission prior to receiving recall notification. Also, dealership failed to performrepairs for the brake recall 96v143003, but indicated that they did. Upon inspectionthe original part was still on the vehicle.

Control arms bent, causing back wheels to be misaligned.

Lower control arm bushing became loose, resulting in damage to transaxle and oil pan.

I've heard that there is or was a class action against chrysler for paint problems. My clearcoat is spidering and pealing in spots. I wanted to know if i could get any compensation from chrysler to get these problems repainted.

Intermittent engine surges, rpm's fluctuates drastically.tt

The aluminum wheels are separating and could result in loss of control of the vehicle. Please describe.tt
