The dealer refused to perform recall 00v-135 because they claimed the consumer altered the wiring harness on the vehicle, the consumer contends that the only alteration of the wiring is the installation of a set of air horns which do not connect to the ignition wiring.nlm

Since july of 1997, i have experienced the transmission slipping out of gear into neutral at highway speeds. Also, a thump in the front end intermittently while driving down all types of road, a spark knocked so loud i sometimes wonder if the motor is going to last.there is often the smell of burning wires and burning fluid and sometimes the cab fills with smoke.in addition, cruise control gains speed (sometimes 5 to 8 mph over what it is set at).the odometer gains miles.

Headights on low beam headlights became inoperative upon tilting steering wheel downward.raising tilt wheel, theheadlights became operative.position of steering wheel did not effect highbeams, only the lowbeams.upon removal of the steering wheel column cowl, it became apparent that the lowbeam wire to the dimming switch had become chaffed by the movement of the tilt assembly, melting the wire insulation, and creating a high resistance connection to the steering column,strong enough for the wire to part but not allowing the amount of current flow needed to blow the fuse to the lightingcircuit overcurrent device.because the vehicle is 12,000 miles past warranty ( 36 months/36,000 miles) the selling dealer refused to treat the problem as factory defect and stated over the telephone that the problem was mine and that i would most likely be responsible for the repair.it is my position that wiring harnesses in such a limited amount of time should never short-out or become so dangerously defective, creating a possible fire hazard, headlight failure, and worst case air bag deployment while driving.thank you for your time...marshall searles

The contact owns a 1997 dodge ram.after stopping the vehicle, the engine and oil lights illuminated.the dealer diagnosed the failure on three occasions and stated that the compressor sensors were low and advised the contact to add two quarts of oil per week.however, the oil light continued to illuminate intermittently.the contact did not confirm if the vehicle had antilock brakes.the vin was confirmed, but appears to be invalid.the failure mileage was 133,200 and current mileage was 134,400.

I'm not sure if i should be reporting this here but i've encountered the engine shutting down at 45mph and above speeds for less than a second.invariably i'm at 55-60mph on cruise control when this occurs.it is unexpected.normally only one incident between starting up and shutting down engine but have had two about several minutes apart a couple of times.i've told my dealer several times when they're fixing other things but they're unable to duplicate it and thus unable to fix the problemo.it is occurring more frequently now than during the first year of my truck purchase and my warranty expires 1/1/00 so i'm sortof concerned about what i should do.because of your resources i figured i'd let you know and maybe get some help regarding the problem before the engine dies completely. 10 amp fuse in panel marked"engine" blows at erratic intervals. When fuse blows, engine and all components shut down. Replacement of fuse, same size or larger, sometimes allows restart. At times as many as three or four fuses blow as soon as attempt to restart. Truck has shut down at crowded intersections and interstates...when traffic lane is blocked, driver must hold driver's door open while attempting to replace fuse, thus blocking two traffic lanes. Truck is used to tow a 32' travel trailer, which further adds to danger. Truck has been taken to chrysler dealers eight times with no success at finding fault.truck (and trailer) have been towed by wrecker to dealer three times. Owner has attempted to contact chrysler rep several times but no return calls. Owner is afraid to drive vehicle any further, especially towing travel trailer. All recourse having failed, seeking legal advice from attorney.

The push/pull headlight switch sparked when pulled on and the lowbeam headlights did not function.

Nar 1/15/2003. The consumer discovered a design flaw with the fuel tank metal support straps. The flaw may cause the fuel tank to drop from the truck onto the ground and start a fire or explosion. The fuel tank support problem was due to metal stress based on the poor design of the holding straps. The consumer this problem when he went to look under the vehicle and noticed the rear portion of the fuel tank was hanging lowat the same time he noticed the metal strap was hanign loose, he crawled under the truck ans saw the rear tak strap was broken allowing the entire fule tankto be supported only by the front tank strap.

The contact owns a 1997 dodge ram. The contact stated that the fuel tank fractured and detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was caused by normal wear and tear. The dealer stated that the contact should have paid more attention to the straps because they are designed to eventually wear out.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 109,000.

Fuel pump failure at 37000 miles???cost me $675 to replace/repair.thought this was unusual so reporting it.also, replaced with a dealer purchased part but installed/repaired at back bay auto in virginia beach, va where it broke down...of course the warranty didn't apply in this case!:-(
Upon failure of fuel pump, mechanic disclosed that he replaces many fuel pumps for the afformentioned make and model. Another family member who owns a dodge ram 1500 that was purchased on the same date as the earlier mentioned vehicle was forced to replace the same item (fuel pump) at approximately 48,000 miles. It seems obvious that an investigation should follow, this does not appear to be merely coincidental
This is 2nd time fuel pump has failed.luckily truck was not moving either time.this last failure was caused by a short circuit.isn't this a dangerous situation as fuel pump is located in the gas tank.i know other dodge ram owners who have had to replace the fuel pump.is there a problem with the fuel pumps in these trucks?.
Consumer took vehicle in for inspection and found outbrake pad fell off.metal to metal ruined rotor.both had to be cut because other good one was worn down.also,fuel pump went bad forsecond time. Consumer stopped at a stop after returning fromstore andvehicle stalled. It no longer started right up, it always heitated like it was not trying to catch. Dealer said it lost its program because it was not used enough. Consumers warranty was expired, covered cost.

Truck caught fire parked in drive way.totally burned the truck and burned our car parked next to it, the corner of our home and the rear of a car parked in our gurage.the fire has been investigated by several professionals and the consensus is that the fire originated at the top of the fuel tank where a electrical pump is located. The headlights would flicker out when driving dark roads. Would then reappear for few minutes then off again. Interior lights remain on. Taking vehicle to dealer for electrical problems.

Transmission has failed several times.
Transmission failed due to transmission fluid not reaching overdrive mechanism. It started slipping as i was driving home late one night and it completely went out two days later. Mechanic says it started in the overdrive mechanism and went from there. He stated dodge knows about these problems with the transmissions and won't do anything about it as far as the customers expenses. My husbands dodge truck is having the same problem. It seems to be common in these trucks from 80,000 - 100,000 miles, and dodge refuses to pay for any of it, although they apparently made an upgrade kit for it. Manufacturers defect. Transmissions are extremely expensive to fix, and dodge should take responsibility for the defective parts. I have contacted dodge/chrysler, and was told they would not assist me in my transmission problems because my warranty was expired. The truck is only four years old, and we would have thought it to be more reliable. I have noticed on the complaint screen on nhtsa that there are several of these complaints regarding transmissions. I have documentation of dodge's declination, as well as my efforts to have them help me. At this time both our dodge trucks are unreliable, and becoming increasingly expensive to continue to fix. I have replaced the power steering pump and the u-joints also. Any amount of help would be appreciated. It's expensive enough to purchase the vehicles without continually putting money into them to keep them running, especially when the trucks are only 4 years old. Since july of 1997, i have experienced the transmission slipping out of gear into neutral at highway speeds. Also, a thump in the front end intermittently while driving down all types of road, a spark knocked so loud i sometimes wonder if the motor is going to last.there is often the smell of burning wires and burning fluid and sometimes the cab fills with smoke.in addition, cruise control gains speed (sometimes 5 to 8 mph over what it is set at).the odometer gains miles.

Transmission ceased to work while driving at 55 mph. No forward movement. Had truck towed home. Drove the next day, but would not shift into 2nd. Gear. Scranton dodge performed diagnostic test (revealed code 37: overdrive lockup solenoid malfunction) , said trans. Was bad and wanted $2,456.00 for replacement. No warranty help because truck was over warranty coverage by 2,950 miles. Mechanic said fluid was burnt and there was "metal in the pan and it ruined the solenoids." (inspection later revealed no metal in pan or burnt fluid). Called chrysler (1-800-992-1997) spoke to don griesbaum, ext. 7088 gave authorization no. 7934794.he said that chrysler would "help" with the cost, but would not give a hint as to what "help" might be. Scranton dodge would have to disassemble the trans. To determine the problem, and then chrysler would deem if it was "driver neglect" which would get no "help" from chrysler. Also once trans is disassembled, it cannot leave the dealer until it has been fully repaired. I would have ok'd the teardown but $2,456.00 for a trans with a 36k mile warranty seemed useless when mine failed at 38,950 and i put 22k miles on in 19mos. I asked don griesbaum if the transmission is defective with no fault on my part, how much is this going to cost me. He replied that he could not disclose any information to me until my truck was disassembled at a chrysler dealership. I have been making payments on a truck that has been sitting in my driveway since november . I have spoken to many people who have had problems with chrysler's auto trans. Aamco transmissions (scranton) said that if dodge had to recall every faulty trans. They built, they would be bankrupt. Caravans and rams are notorious for early trans. Failure. The newsgroups on the net are filled with complaints and people requesting info on class action lawsuits. While shifting from parkinto reverse vehicle will stall. Dealers did check vehicle and replaced various sensors, but problem remains. Owner is very concerned for his safety.
Manufacturer replaced part free of charge, however, i had to pay for 12 hours of labor. Having an obviously defective part in a three year old vehicle, should not warrant a penalty of payment by me.

Transmission needed to be rebuilt.consumer was told by two different mechanics that rear wheel drive chrysler vehicles if in park with the engine running, coolant doesn't circulate to the transmission. Consumer phoned chrysler customer service and they advised her to contact nhtsa for a possible recall. Consumer learned of the trans coolant connect recall. Then she recalled that part being replaced prior to the failure. The fluid was checked before the vehicle was towed, and it was thick and brown as a result of being burnt. The consumer feels a fair resolution would be for chrysler to reimburse her at least half the cost of the transmission repairs.*ph *nlm
Made three trips to dealer for engine light over a period of 45 days. First trip was on 10/3/01with a charge of$132.25 tech found torque converter not working. Cleaned torque converter solenoid. Second trip to dealer was made on 10/30/01 with check engine light on again. Tech foundsame problem again and replaced torque converter solinoid for charge of $246.58. Third trip was made on 11/13/01 with check engine light again on. This time tech said probably an internal leak "somewhere" but don't know where. Said ok to drive until transmission starts slipping. Check engine light came on again on the way home and trans began slipping next day. Returning to dealer on 11/15/01 the transmission gave out completely and had to be towed. Dealer called on 11/16/01 stating that the front plate in transmission had failed and probably could never get all the metal out of transmission. Now cost will be $2200 for a rebuilt transmission.

Consumer noticed a leak around transmission cooling line that spilled into radiator.this was same exact problem asstated in manufacturer's recall 722 fortransmission cooling line.

On 9/14/2000 the rear differential begain to make a moaning noise during deaccelerating. With in 10 miles driving distance at 30 mph during deacceleration the rear end differential made a loud bang while the vehical jerked violently. After the loud noise i heard the drive shaft of the vehical draging on the pavement. I proceeded to attempt to pull to the side of the road and slow down when the vehical jerked violently agian. At this point i was traveling approximately 25 mph and the rear wheels locked up and begain to slide. I released the brake pedal but the sliding continued due to a major failure in the differential. Luckily i did not loose complete control of the truck during wheel lockup. When the truck stopped i looked under the truck and observed the rear end of the drive shaft on the pavement. I could not move the vehical due to the jammed differential, the vehical was towed to to a local dodge dealer ship. If i had been traveling at freeway speeds it is very possible that a serious or fatal accident could have occured. The biggest issue i have with dodge is that the differential failed the first time when the vehical was almost new at 13000 miles. The first failure occured approximately on 3/98. Luckly the failing differential made very pronounced humming noises before any catastrophic faluire occured. At that time i took the vehical to allen samuel dodge in fort worth texas for repair. Allen samuel dodge technitions identified that the bearings in the differential had failed and caused the ring and pinion gear to severly wear. Due to the history demonstrated with my experinces i am concerned that dodge has a problem with the design and or method of manufacturing the rear ends of their 1/2 ton pickups.

Driving 45-55mph, vehicle would vibrate, but can be controlled.taken to dealership twice for vibration. Haddrivershaft replaced to correctproblem. Also been to tire retailer due topossibility of tires causing problem. Tires were the problem.contacted manufacturer ,informed consumer nothing couldbe done. It was characteristic of truck, and couldnot be repaired. Consumer states vibration has existed in vehicle since purchased, consumer also states the vibration causes him to have to drive under 40 mph or over 50 mph to avoid the vibration.

Nut on transmission is slowly loosening when shifting. When the nut falls off,5th gear is no longer working.dealer will not authorize repairs of transmission until the bolt is completely off transmission, and 5th gear fails. This pick up is used for pulling boat and carring a camper.eventhough the loose parts were replaced by the dealer, the customer is concerned about the defect possibly causing an accident.
The dealers were notified and they weren't able to fix the problem.i was told that other people have reported similar problem and that it happens on hot days.since they were not able to repeat the problem when they test drove my vehicle they were not able to pin point the problem to attend to.they didn't think it was a safety issue.i disagree!here is the problem.after a complete stop the vehicle sometimes would hesitate to accel when i step on the gas peddle. The metal plate inside the seat closest to the driver's door that allows the back of the seat to pivot forward protrudes through the seat fabric exposing a sharp point that has ripped 6 pairs of my pants on the left rear pocket (and cut into a leather wallet) when sitting down in the seat.the reason i had so many pairs of pants ripped is that it took several months for me to realize exactly "what" was causing the rips.had it not been for having my wallet in my left pocket i would have surely sustained a laceration on my left buttock.i currently have about 12 layers of duct tape covering the hole that the point protrudes through.would like to have the manufacturer replace the seat and $300 worth of pants.

Vehicle pulls to the right when applying the brakes.after a repair attempt, the brakes locked (in wet conditions) and a pallet in back of the truck was thrown into the cab.
Whenever the abs brakes were applied after going 40mph, vehicle would pull to left. Took to dealer & had mechanic replace front calipers. Also had the suspension, the frame & the alignment checked out.
While driving at approximately 45 mph consumer applied brake and skidded about 10 feet,hit another vehicle head-on. Upon impact,driver airbags did not deploy whichhave caused injuries. The inspectors from the manufacturer indicated that the air bags did not deploy because the impact dissipated.

Light turned red and when i went to stop, i ended in the middle of the intersection. After the second incident i contacted the dealership and took it in for inspection. No problems were found. The service manager mr. Web ( i believe that's his name) drove my truck and agreed it seemed to take longer to stop, but upon inspection no problems were found. After 3 more incidents of the same nature, the dealership did replace all the brakes, telling me there was an update to a different pad for the rear brakes. The truck at the time had approximately19000 miles. I then was tols it was normal for the brakes to wear out at 19000 miles. I do not believe that. I still have the stopping problem, and i am extremely careful when i tow my 17' boat and trailer. The weight is less than 3000 lbs. The truck now has barely over 40000 miles. I had the brakes check by a qualified mechanic, and was told that the brakes have about 75% of pad left. Are ther any other complaints about the braking system on the 1997 dodge 4x4 ram 1500 trucks?

The thottle stuck in the wide open position and would not return to idle. The brakes were just able to stop the vehicle. Shifting to neutral caused the engine to go well into the redline on the rpm indicator. Pulling up on the accelerator pedal did nothing.the dealer said the linkage was rusted tight. They don't have new parts so they scrapped the rust off, oiled it and put it back together. They said the throttle cable was not the problem as in the recall of "95-96 vehicles. This is a hard truck to get stopped when the throttle is stuck wide open. Good thing my wife wasn't driving it.

Made three trips to dealer for engine light over a period of 45 days. First trip was on 10/3/01with a charge of$132.25 tech found torque converter not working. Cleaned torque converter solenoid. Second trip to dealer was made on 10/30/01 with check engine light on again. Tech foundsame problem again and replaced torque converter solinoid for charge of $246.58. Third trip was made on 11/13/01 with check engine light again on. This time tech said probably an internal leak "somewhere" but don't know where. Said ok to drive until transmission starts slipping. Check engine light came on again on the way home and trans began slipping next day. Returning to dealer on 11/15/01 the transmission gave out completely and had to be towed. Dealer called on 11/16/01 stating that the front plate in transmission had failed and probably could never get all the metal out of transmission. Now cost will be $2200 for a rebuilt transmission.

While operating brake pedal, brake pedal travel suddenly increased when i applied brakes.i stopped along the shoulder of the rural road upon which i was traveling and checked for a brake problem.i discovered that the front passenger side brake hose connecting the steel brake line to the brake caliper assembly had burst where visible wear indicated the hosehad repeatedly made contact with the truck frame during right turns.on 07/20/2002 i spoke to the dealer from whom i'd purchased the used vehicle and suggested we check the right front hoses on the other used dodge trucks for sale on his lot.one of the vehicles had wear on its right front brake hose in a manner similar to mine.he said he would have to replace it 07/22/2002 and thanked me for informing him of the problem.i replaced the hose and retained the failed hose.i cannot determine whether or not the failed hose is original equipment .

Vehichle had grease built up on the rear axle when it was picked up by the dealer. Car was in for service on brakes three times.the brakes are still grinding. The fluid level on the master cylinder is going down. Vehicle is under warranty, driving vehicle up to 60 mph, dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

Intermediate shaft was defective, causing steering column to break.after contacting dealer. Consumer had the intermediate shaft replaced twice within 20,000 miles.the driver side mirror was loose.because of the noise in the steering while turning, the clock spring was removed and the steering wheel reinstalled.the problem still existed. Consumer had problems with front end/steering.vehicle had a 60,000 mile warranty. Dealer drovevehicle & said it was fine. On april 5, 2000, dealer said front end needed to be replaced. Steering gear box, and 4 tires had to be repaired to pass inspection. Consumer has put out $839 the first time & now steering box is leaking which cost $900. Dealer didn't seem to knowwhatreal cause was.

The consumer has been experiencing problems withsteering/suspension. When driving, cosumerhas problems controlling the vehicle.they have had the alignment fixed 6 times, and the steering wheel repaired 7 times.the manufacturer has been contacted.

I contacted you by phone but was not satisfied with the operator and i am submitting you this e-mail ontop of the info i gave the operator.while driving n. Bound on i69 my truck had a shake in the front end for a split second and the rim and tire flew off. After getting the truck off the highway i observed that all the studs that hold the rim on had snapped off at the base of the threads. The holes in the rim for the lugs showed no sign of wear that would have indicated that the lugnuts were loose. These tires were last removed by danville dodge dealer on 3/26/99 to replace the u-joints that went bad on the front axel. The tow truck operator informed me that he had picked up several dodge trucks with the same problem. I also have a cousin that had a dodge on which one rim had all the lugnuts break off. The truck is currently at mike anderson dodge, 3527 s western ave., marion in, 46953, phone# 765-674-3394, my contact is ed in the service dept. I have contacted daimler chrysler customer center who has opened a file #6331098 and is sending a investigator to look at the damage and determine the cause. Thanks rick
Since july of 1997, i have experienced the transmission slipping out of gear into neutral at highway speeds. Also, a thump in the front end intermittently while driving down all types of road, a spark knocked so loud i sometimes wonder if the motor is going to last.there is often the smell of burning wires and burning fluid and sometimes the cab fills with smoke.in addition, cruise control gains speed (sometimes 5 to 8 mph over what it is set at).the odometer gains miles.
This vehicle leans severely to the left - we have taken it in to the dodge dealer who stated it was because that is where the fuel tank is located.they suggested we take the truck to les schwab to have the tires looked at also. We did this and les scwab stated that it was a major defect with the truck and the dealership just wanted us out because they are aware of the defect and therefore sent us to les schwab.
While braking, vehicle will not stop, dealer states brakes are withing specification.front tires keep wearing, dealer can not find reason for wear.

Dt:the contact statedwhile driving 55 mph the axle broke, causing the vehicleto veer off the road and hit a chain link fence, then go to the other side of the road and jump a ditch.the contactwas able to tow the vehicle to his house himself.the axle snapped off at the bearing where it bolts to the hub.the wheel was not damaged when this happened.the dealership statedif he had hit something the wheel would be damaged. The contact has not yet been to a physician, but wasexperiencing back pain.the vehicle has not yet been repaired.
Rear brakes failed.
While traveling at highway speed of 60 mph vehicle was rearended/dropped, and lost control. Towed to an independent repair shop, and informed consumer that the preload adjuster was set and cross threaded. Dealer notified, and had nothing to say!provide further details.
Rear controlarm was defective,causing front endto be out of alignment which resulted in rear end locking up. The rear end would lift up & down 6 inches from the ground. Owner replacedcontrol arm. Been to dealer & mechanic wanted to charge to check if replaced control arm was defective.
I had my complete rear end overhalled under my 90-day warranty, now 6 mths. Lateri was backing out of my driveway and rear end locked -up breaking my pinion shaft gear.they offered me a tow & a rental, then come back & say i have to pay for it!! note-the pinion shaft lock bolt shows damage of falling out,they told me they don't use lock-tite.ford&chevy manual say's discard old bolt, i think dodge should too!!please help.
Bracket hangs down under truck. When trying to go over curb it hooks the curb causing failure. Poor design of the bracket.

I got 26000 miles out of this tire, i think my van is to heavy for this type of tire.

The first failure was an original equipment goodyear wrangler at on the right rear.the tread seperated at highway speed and caved in the side of the pick up bed but did only minor damage to the 5th wheel travel trailer i was pulling.the second failure was a kelly safari awr lt245x75/r16 on the right front.the tread seperated at highway speed denting the passenger door and rocker panel and breaking the fender well and some bumper componnents.the vehicle was unloaded at the time.in both cases, the ambient temperature was above 90 degrees f.in the first case, good year did not accept responsibility at all.in the second case, kelley paid for the loss completely.both tires were load range e with about 40,000 mile of use.both tires had lots of tread left (the wear bars were not even beginning to show.)the first tire (good year) threw aprox 80% of the tread but remained inflated (80psi) and on the rim.the second tire (kelly) threw about 50 % of its tread but also remained inflated (65 psi) and on the rim.this second incident presented a much more difficult control situation being on a front wheel, but i was still able to maintain enough controll to clear the roadway and stop without further damage.in light of today's news about similar firestone tire failures on suv type vehicles, i felt you should know that it is not just firestone or ford with the problem.large suv tires are loosing tread almost as readily as commercial vehicle re-caps.( dot number: tire size: 245x75/r16 )
Original equipment on a 1997 dodge, ram, wrangler at, 245/75r16. Whilebalancing tires mechanic noticed tread separation, tire was replaced. On 6,september,1999.1000 miles later, right rear tire had a blowout, and did $ 2000 damage to vehicle. Goodyear replaced 1 tire. Consumer replaced all tires.with 20000 miles on 3rd set of tires, tires were difficult to balance.

Two original goodyear wrangler tires experienced tread separation, another tire looked bad, so goodyear prorated all five, one of the replacement tires experienced tread separation and two of those did not look good, one of the failed tires also caused damage to the vehicle, consumer is waiting for goodyear to reimburse him for the tires and for the damages on vehicle, tire size is lt245/75r16 dot numbers mkii.
Had noticedbracket was cracked where it attaches the trailer to the hitch.crack was severe. Owner bought new bracket & replaced the old one.the entire hitch has to be replaced and it is the same hitch that was recalled.

Paint began peeling off on the roof of the truck approzimately 1 year ago.since then the all of the paint on the roof has peeled off and now the hood of the vehicle has started peeling.
My 1997 dodge ram 1500 truck has severe paint delamination that began in 2001 and continues to get worse every year. I am in the process of going through small claims court because chrysler refuses to help me. They say that my vehicle is out of warranty. I understand that chrysler had paint problems with a defect at that time. Can you please send me some info on this? a manufacturers paint job should last more than five years. Please help.
Made three trips to dealer for engine light over a period of 45 days. First trip was on 10/3/01with a charge of$132.25 tech found torque converter not working. Cleaned torque converter solenoid. Second trip to dealer was made on 10/30/01 with check engine light on again. Tech foundsame problem again and replaced torque converter solinoid for charge of $246.58. Third trip was made on 11/13/01 with check engine light again on. This time tech said probably an internal leak "somewhere" but don't know where. Said ok to drive until transmission starts slipping. Check engine light came on again on the way home and trans began slipping next day. Returning to dealer on 11/15/01 the transmission gave out completely and had to be towed. Dealer called on 11/16/01 stating that the front plate in transmission had failed and probably could never get all the metal out of transmission. Now cost will be $2200 for a rebuilt transmission.
Consumer requested the status of 2 previous complaints that were submitted.

The thottle stuck in the wide open position and would not return to idle. The brakes were just able to stop the vehicle. Shifting to neutral caused the engine to go well into the redline on the rpm indicator. Pulling up on the accelerator pedal did nothing.the dealer said the linkage was rusted tight. They don't have new parts so they scrapped the rust off, oiled it and put it back together. They said the throttle cable was not the problem as in the recall of "95-96 vehicles. This is a hard truck to get stopped when the throttle is stuck wide open. Good thing my wife wasn't driving it.
While driving, throttle linkage has broken in half in same location. Dealer has been notified. Mechanic has repaired this on several occasions; however unable to remedy this problem.consumer states problem was covered under recall 02v161.

The consumer had a recall #b15, but the throttle was sticking at times.the consumer found out that the bracket for the bell crank was missing, causing the linkages to twist.the accelerator was sticking, and found the tps wiring bracket not bottled up, the tps bolts were loose and rear half of the bell crank were broken causing the bell crank to pull sideways, binding the throttle.the back part of the bell crank was replaced.scc

After starting vehicle consumer shifted to reverse, suddenly vehicle accelerated and engine revved. Consumer applied brakes, which did not stop vehicle. After about 100 feet consumer shut off engine, and passenger shifted to park. While accelerating on its own, the vehicle damaged the garage doors and part of the house.

A solid steel adjusting rod inthrottle linkage has broken three times.each incident causesvehicle to fall into an idling gear during normal operation of vehicle, and has occurred at various speeds. Mirrors flop back and forth while driving making it very hard to see & use them. The dealership has stated that this is a very common complaint with the dodge ram but no recall has been issued!this is very dangerous and could cause a very bad accident -not being able to see out of them correctly .

The driver's side rear view mirror and the passenger side rear view mirror vibrate when a speed od 35 mph or higher is reached.it constantly vibrates from that speed on, and vibrates to the point that it is essentially useless - you cannot see in it.i've taken it to the original dealership (palmer dodge) approximately 4 times, and also to south towne dodge.each dealership has replaced the mirror and retightened all nuts, bolts, screws, etc., but the vibration will not go away.the dealerships have told us that it occurs on all trucks from 1994 to the present, and that they don't have a solution yet.please help me be able to see behind me when i drive.thanks for your time.

While driving at highway speeds driver's and passenger's manualmirrors moves inward constantly which obstructed the rear view to the driver . This may cause a crash.
I own a 1997 dodge ram truck and the drivers and passengers outside mirror will not hold into position (they swing in towards the door glass while driving). I contacted the dodge dealer in my area and they confirmed that there is a concern with the mirrors, in fact they told me that dodge redesigned the mirrors for that reason. The replacement mirrors are the old design and they told me that in a matter of time the new ones will do the same thing. Because this is a safety matter i would hope that the mirrors could be retrofit to the new style or a permanent fix be made.
Whenever drivingexterior mirrors would turn inward. Driver would need to use interior mirrors to see other vehicles on side. Took to dealership & mechanic refused to correct problem due to vehicle being over 35,000 miles.

Consumer states when the vehicle is being driven on the highway, the side view mirrors turn inward facing the cab of the vehicle,and will not remain in the set position. When this problem occurrs the driver can not determine the distance of on coming traffic and can not safely change lanes.
The side mirrors failed to stay inthe position in which they were set in..both side mirrors folded against the doors which was caused by various wind currents at various speeds, which made it difficult to see when attempting to change lanes.
Rear view mirrors mounted on both doors of vehicle failed to remain in one position and "flopped in wind".dealershipwas unwilling to assistconsumer in repair of this problem.
Passenger exterior mirror will not stay locked in position and folds back when pulling off from a stop.
Intermediate shaft was defective, causing steering column to break.after contacting dealer. Consumer had the intermediate shaft replaced twice within 20,000 miles.the driver side mirror was loose.because of the noise in the steering while turning, the clock spring was removed and the steering wheel reinstalled.the problem still existed. Rear speaker was inoperative and replaced. *jg

The front corner posts are extreamly wide, to the point blocking vision. Although i have trained myself to move my body to be able to see around them i have come close to an accident a couple of times. I believe this is a design problem or design flaw. If someone driving one of these trucks says "but i didn't see the other car". It may very well be true. I have no other problems with this wonderfull truck.
The windshield bonding/sealant would leak & run down the side edges of the vehicle to the fender. This happens when the weather is hot.
Whenever it snows or it is cold,ice blocks the windshield wiper blade.
Windshield wipers: wipers will not stay down on windshield, driver's side more of a prblem. When driving at a slow speed wipers will stay down, on interstatewhere speed is 65 and above they will not stay down, and they freeze up.

Left rear dual tires came off of vehicle striking other vehicle, due to bolt failure.
While driving the stud bolts on left front tire broke, causing the left rear tire to brcome loose on the hub, the vehicle coasted onto the inside berm when the left front wheel wheel came off the hub. (ohio traffic crash report)
