Read complaints for DODGE RAM QUAD CAB (2002)

While traveling on wet road came upon high water and a vehicle spun out half on the shoulder, half in my lane. Applied the brakes which locked up. Slid into spun vehicle hitting head on at 40-45mph. Neither driver or passenger airbags deployed. Front end was heavily damaged.

I was on a back road doing 35 mph i hit black ice and the back end went out.i had weight in the back of the truck but it didn't help.i let off the gas and the brake and tried to slowly correct the back end.it just made the situation worse.i knew i was going off the road.my truck took a nose dive into a six-foot ditch the back end came straight up and the roof hit a tree from then the truck spun on its nose fell onto its left side went up hit the roof again and finally stopped on the drivers side.i was knocked unconscious with the first hit after that i was completely scalped.neither one of the air bags deployed.i only wonder if they did i may not have been scalped and suffered such traumatic head injuries.at this point i am just happy to be alive.the insurance company totaled out the truck undeployed air bags and all.

I was driving down the road when a truck ran his stop sign and stopped in the intersection (it is not a 4 stop).it was lightly raining. When i applied my brakes the abs didn't work and i then lost control slamming into the ditch embankment.missing the truck.i was going about 35-40 mph when i hit.i hit head on into the embankment.when i hit my air bag didn't deploy and the steering column broke.*la

I had noticed a crack in my dash one day after work and now there are several. The one that concerns me most, is the one on the passenger side over the air bag compartment. I keep my vehicle in very good shape so this problem is not due to neglect. The material used just seems to be very brittle and i am afraid if anything was to happen causing the passenger air bag to deploy, what is the brittle dash pieces are going to due to my passenger. I do believe this could lead to a serious injury to someone's face or eyes. As of now chrysler seems to be saying that this is not a manufactures problem, i disagree, i also own a 97' dodge ram truck that does not have this problem. Current vehicle is a 02' ram 1500.

Dashboard of truck has several severe cracks in it.largest from windshield to glove box = where passenger airbag is located.

I was driving under 30 miles an hour in my 2002 dodge ram quad truck when something snapped under the front of the truck causing me to lose control of my vehicle resulting into crashing into a truck waiting to pull out into the street. The truck only had 17,000 miles and we only have had it 22 months, bought new. The steering arm was off at both ends, the wheel came off and all damage was on the inside of the wheel, the other wheel was turned straight. When accident happened the truck veered to the left out of control. The airbag never came out.are there any reports of 2002 dodgetrucks having steering problems? chrysler finally sent a person to look at the truck. Our insurance company is wanting to put after market parts on our new truck, which will limit our warranty with chrysler since they're not dodge parts. The point is: if we were on interstate or any road going faster someone would have gotten hurt much worse or killed, since the airbag didn't work either. Cast aluminum is what the parts that came apart were made of. With the damage that occurred to the wheel and both ends of the steering arm was off after the wreck, it is hard to tell how it happened. We have not gotten the official word from chrysler yet. Caution owners of 2002 dodge trucks of the potential dangers, please. *la

Collided with another vehicle, i was going 75 mph it was somewhere near stopped to 30 mph, i ran into the rear of other vehicle and air bags did not deploy, what the hell do i pay for them for. I have extensive pictures of the truck i was driving to prove my case.*la

My 2002 dodge ram 1500 had a severe front end impact , the air bags did not deploy., resulting in my neck breaking and my wifebeing injured . The seat belts were in use on both of us.

Dt*: the contact stated that the passenger side of the vehicle's dashboard developed a crack where the airbag is located.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 06/26/06 who determined that the defect was not covered under warranty and did not repair the crack. The passenger side of the dashboard has developed three additional cracks since the incident occurred.

Problems with side view mirrors, blow motor, electric rear door locks won't work, turn signals and paint on the hood. *phthe gauges on the dash panel failed.the lights remained illuminated intermittently.when the right turn signal was activated the left signal flashed, sometimes both signal illuminated simultaneously.the paint on the hood and front panel began to chip.

At 65 mph using cruise control, daytime, dry pavement, good weather, brake warning light and abs warning light illuminated with warning chime. At next exit, operator took vehicle to repair shop. Technician found right front wheel bearing assembly worn, allowing tire/wheel assembly to be moved 1-2'' from vertical. Vehicle had been checked during state inspection less than 400 miles previously and passed. A total failure in traffic at speed might have resulted in a loss of handling/braking that might have caused or worsened an accident. Failed part is available.vehicle has also suffered numerous premature failures including: failure of driver heated seat, failure of electric fuel pump, nearly causing accident due to engine stoppage and loss of power steering, failure of instrument cluster, failure of front suspension components, and damage to spare tire due to mis-routed tail pipe.some of these are manufacturer design defects, others are troubleshooting or repair errors at dealer. Two events (fuel pump, wheel bearing) might have caused accident with injury/death possible outcome.

Took truck to dealer because the headlights, taillights were going on and off intermittently whether the light switch was on of off and the key was in the run position (started or not)and windshield wipers would turn off when this happens. I about had a terrible accident when i found out the wipers quit working, imagine that! took my 2002 dodge ram 4x4, 3.7l quad cab sport to dealer and they said it was the pdc (power distribution center (fuse box)) that they are prone to corrosion and they have replaced many of them. Why no recall when many lives are at stake here and so many problems with these found? could have been me, and i have 3 children that depend on me, so chrysler own up to it and do the right thing.

No response from larry green chrysler dealer760-921-8900 for recall g28-ignition/park shift interlock. 3 calls to the service department and all 3 times ... "i'm out of the parts. I will order some and call you".

Electrical - cannot charge a cell phone in any of the receptacles. Works in other vehicles.transmission - changes gears very rough, somtimes on acceleration, all the time when decelerating. Steering - at times the steering does not want to work. Will not turn, very hard as if no rack and pinion. Truck slides out at times during turns, steering gets pulled.

2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7l truck will intermittenly stall or have rough idle at stop, also while driving the brake and abs light will flash. Dealer says they cannot duplicate the problem and refuse to fix

Excessive stoplamp failures, replaced lamps due to melting of base repeatedly,4th time in 8 mos. No service kit or upgrades available, check chevy, same tail light board set-up, same problems, perhaps they have a bulletin on problem?severe shaking under braking, started at 15k miles, servicer refuses to cover under warranty (12k warranty), have found numerous issues with these rotors.severe shaking on sweeping right hand freeway turns, presently scheduled for service at antioch/delta dodge.engine intermittently stalling, unable to duplicate problem when in for service, not noted on service tickets.independent front end leakage, presently scheduled for service at antioch/delta dodge.this my 3rd dodge truck since 1996, 1st one was great, 2nd had repeated rearend issues, 3rd seems to be having excessive issues across the spectrum of components, i would like help in resolving these issues, as presently i still view dodge as the leader in customer satisfaction.

Dash is cracking in several places dropping parts of dashboard into fan motor to overheat causing interference with air conditioner operation.

On 10-17-05 carried my 2002 dodge ram quad cab into my mechanic to have checked out acwas not working and the heater was not either he traced the problem to the ing wires and found they were burned.carried my truck to a local dealer in my hometown because bought my truck out of town.the service department at local dealer was very rude and unhelpful.swore to myself i would not use them again. Called the dealer where bought my truck there service department was not any better. Ask to speak to person over service he told me if it was same problem as last time then they did not have to fix it because they only had to fix recalls one time only.so when i was off the phone with them i calleddodge recall center to check on this. When they told me the dodge dealers had to fix gave local dealership one more try. There service department said there was nothing wrong with blower but ing wires were burned. I told them this in the first place so i had to pay for them taking one hour and 50 min to find this out and put a new part in. Service department was still not very nice but had to have my truck so i can work.them number of times it quit working before it went out all the way is 6 or 7, hope other people have better luck than me. I would think if wires are burning up that dodge would fix at their cost not mine butguess they don't give a [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2009 the rear door wiring shorted due to faulty design, and shorted the instrument cluster leaving the vehicle without any instruments readings, instruments lights or a way to drive at night. Currently the back doors accessories power doors locks and windows don't work as the problem has been found to be the wiring ofthe back doors with this feature. The wiring began to rub against each other exposing wires thus creating a short to the instrument cluster and lighting system.

Check engine light comes on-- ran on drb iii found diagnostic trouble codes"s set for no communication from tcm to pcmcalled tec line was told to replace pcm reset valuesroad tested vehicle-- mod po 8035029* (1)was told wire connect tcm * (2)replaced pcm -- rental01/22/03 - 02/06/03.*nlm

Rear door wiring failure causing the wires to short out the instrument cluster, speedometer, door locks, power windows, doom lighting. The wiring failure is due to a poor design and poor quality of materials used on both sides of the read doors wiring system between the b pillar connector and the door. This can be identified by removing the black rubber booth.

Dashboard is cracking and falling in exposing electrical components to sunlight and intense heat. The problem is getting worse as time goes on.

Knock on my door from the fire department, said my truck burned up. It was not driven that day. Any electrical recalls for this vehicle?

Currently own a 2002 dodge ram quad cab.i have had numerous problems with my truck.i myself have also experienced the same problems with the transmission jerking as well as the vehicle completely shutting off when idling (and not even at long periods of time).at times when putting into reverse, the vehicle will not move at all and i have to completely shut off the truck and restart it to get it to move.i haven't had it reported at the dealer yet because they will be unable to duplicate.just noticed a problem with my rear taillights.at different times, different bulbs would seem to go out causing the "lamp out" indicator lamp to illuminate.when i went to change the bulb myself (cause bulbs are not warranty), i found that the sockets were causing the bulb housing to melt inside the sockets as well as on the bulbs.i took it to the dealer and they only replaced one side because the other they did not have in stock, yet they did not even bother ordering the other side.i have already had my rack & pinion replaced because it was leaking and also have had to have my tcm and pcm reprogramed because they were causing my check engine light to come on as well as making my air conditioning inoperative.

We own a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quadcab 4x4, just shortly over a year and about 27k miles, my wife and i started having problems with the engine just shutting off. We've taken the truck in several times to the shop, under the initial warranty, and even after the warranty time out its been in the shop several times under the same "ticket". The dealership finally convinced us to let them allow one of their workers to drive it back and forth to work to have the problem happen to someone that works there and after two days, it just shut off on him. They are aware of the problem, they contacted the district manager for chrysler and we've been told they have no clue how to fix it so we have to deal with it. We purchased the extended warranty and it still doesn't matter. Now they wont even return our calls. Just last week my wife was driving the truck, taking the exit from creswell, or and getting onto i-5 to head into eugene, which the on-ramp is a standard circular ramp, and as she was turning, only going about 20 to 30 mph, the engine stalled again, leaving her powerless in the middle of the turn forcing her off the ramp and into the muddy middle section almost causing a three car pileup. This has got to stop, this engine is failing at least once a week if not more and is going to end up killing us and chrysler doesn't care.

Dt: contact owns a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. Contact got out and hit the automatic door locks. Contact tried toopen doors withthe key, but door locks would not work. Once inside the vehicle contact turned vehicle on and no lights ondashboard came on. The only indication that he had the dashboard lights was a small red light. No door locks, no indication for cruise control was on. Contacted dodge, and was told that no recalls were on this vehicle. Contact was told that this vehicle was not under warranty. No crashes. No police reports. The consumer was told the instrument cluster had failed. Update 11/15/05.

I purchased a 2002 quad cab 4x4 in february 2002. From about the third month, and until now, at times the truck will shut off itself, normally at a stop sigh or light.there are times when the truck was rolling to a stop that it shuts down. This seems to happen more in cooler temperature.i had the dealership check the truck approximately 10 times for this condition and they say nothing and they cant duplicate the problem.then they installed a vdaq system (the only one in this country) to monitor the computer and be monitored by chrysler 24hrs a day 7 days a week.about 3 weeks ago i get a call from the service writer, rob, asking me if on the 25 and 26 of august if i had started and turned off the truck 6 times in 15 minutes on those two days.those were work days so the truck was parked.after the last time it stalled on september. 25 i waited to hear from chrysler, no call. On monday the 29th i called rob at service and asked him if he had heard from chrysler. He said that the last he heard they wanted me to take the truck in to remove the monitoring device, i told him they could have the whole stinking truck back.i also have a bell that sounds with a light on the dash that comes on then shuts off. This lemon dodge will be the last dodge i will ever own.*la

2002 dodge ram 2500 instrument bezel falling apart.the part practically crumbles in your hand.

While driving during raining weather, the power steering became inoperable and the alternator died. Dealer stated that heheard about this problem, but could not reproduce it yet.alternator light comes on and steering is stiff while driving through rain.

I have had my dodge ram quad cab in for service over 15 times for rust, wiring, two recalls, engine lights, bad gas cap, bad steering wheel, and list continues....

Electrical fire inside dash or under hood. Brake and abs light kept flashing and a/c fan only worked on high gauges began to act defective and fire abrupted from the dash.

2002 dodge ramservice bulletin 0800203condensation builds up in the electric motor for the air conditioning fan, freezes and then trips the fuse.when the fuse is tripped, the check engine light turns on.muscatell dodge (moorhead, mn) said they have a couple to fix everytime we get a snow storm. Dodge has issued a service bulletin (0800203) to deal with the issue.it calls for replacing the shroud on the fan.it is covered under warranty.unfortunately my warranty has expired.i was just unlucky enough to have this issue at 55,000 miles instead of 35,000.the service bulletin calls to replace the shroud.i feel that if dodge is replacing original parts with updated parts, there should be a recall, or at least own up to it, and replace the shrouds when or if the problem arises.

Dash on 2002 1500 dodge quadcab bought new in 2003 has been cracking for more than 3 years. The dealer knows it is a problem but the factory is in denial. Now it is causing electrical problem. My light have gone out suddenly. My alarm wiring was cut by the dash and the engine shut off. The speaker have been ruined. It is now becoming a safety issue.

Dt:contact states the check engine light keeps coming on due to the transfer pump and diesel injector pump malfunctioning.he contacted the local dealership, and they told him to wait until the light comes on again, and then bring the vehicle to dealer to be checked.the contact never knows when the light will come on, and does not want to be stranded in a dangerous situation.he has not contacted the manufacturer.

Started in 2005 with a blown lifter at 37000 miles. In 2008 the lifters, valves on one side blew as did the head. Dodge claimed i wasn't changing oil properly as it was full of sludge. The oil pump and sump clogged resulting in all the damage. $3800.00 to repair. In march 2009 lifters blew again. Cost $600.00 to repair. Shortly after that the oil pressure dropped. I changed the oil and it was full of sludge. I have been changing the oil every 1500 miles since march 2009 using rinsoline to try and clean motor. It still takes s 6-10 seconds after start to get oil pressure to motor. Lifters are tapping again and i am sure they are ready to go. I have changed the oil using castrol syntec 5-30 every 3000-4000 miles since i bought truck new in 10/2001. I believe the sludge issue is due to a faulty engine design on the 4.7 l v8 dodge used. I know find there are many people having the same issue. I feel the nhtsa should look into this issue.thank you

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, there was a strong odor of gasoline present.upon initial inspection, no leaks were detected.the contact alerted the dealer who instructed the contact to start the engine and upon doing so, flames erupted from the engine compartment.the fire quickly spread consuming the vehicle.no injuries were sustained, but the vehicle was a total loss.the fire department was alerted, and extinguished the flames.the police were on the scene and a report was taken.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where a factory representative inspected the vehicle.the findings of the inspection were not divulged.the manufacturer was notified.

Purchased 2002 dodge ram used.at first service interval, rack and pinion boots were leaking, main seal was shot.also had manifold leak, along with a steering problem that causes shaking at 40 mph.steering problem still remains, and there is a loud rattle that the dealership cannot find.this vehicle has been a nightmare, most recently, my fuel pump decided to quit working.also, the interior trim, namely the hand grips on the driver and passenger door have been replaced numerous times, due to the cheap plastic that is used as a holding ring.do not purchase this type of vehicle.have had nothing but headaches with the truck, from the simple things, to the expensive things...was just told that my head gaskets are shot as well, have spent thousands on this truck, with no returns, do not get this year/model of ram 1500.

At 42000 miles the oil pressure gauge started dropping at the top of a hill. In less then a minutes the truck shut itself down. I drifted down the hill and tried to start it. There was no response. I called the dealer and had it towed. They requested all receipts for oil changes and ordered a new engine. They had said that thier mechanic put a breaker bar on it and couldn't move the engine. It had seized. When the new engine arrived a week later the mechanic went out to pull it in to swap engines. He forgot and tried to start it and it started right up. They called me and told me to pick it up that there was nothing wrong with it. At 52000 miles my engine began knocking. I took it to the dealership garage. Before even touching the vehicle the garage requisted all oil change receipts. Which i supplied to them. After removing the oil pan the service manager informed me that there were pieces of bearings in the oil pan and that the engine had to be replaced for "around" $5200. He then stated that my extended warranty would not cover it due to sludge in the bottom of the oil pan. He believed the oil to be changed "incorrectly".

Purchased 2002 quad cab with 23 miles form turlock auto plaza in april 2002, started noticing problems right away, door locks not unlocking, windows not operating, engine stalling, transmission slipping, radio intermittantly working, etc... Visited 3 local dealerships. Final diagnosis "gremlins" ???cannot duplicate problem . Even though they themselves noted the transmission slipping.on august 27, 2004 engine "blew up", on a major mountainous highway in the slow lane, vehicle was towed to turlock dodge. Service advisor stated the vehicle would be covered under warranty as long as there were no modifications to the vehicle. On several occasions it was stated the vehicle would be covered and parts were ordered. However when the regional rep for daimler chrysler went to see the vehicle. He denied on grounds that oil sludge was present and stated an engine can't do that according to turlock dodge mechanic?, eventhough the truck was sitting in a puddle of normal looking oil. And the sludge was only in the pan. Rep refuses to contact us, to tell us why hes refusing on grounds of sludge. Considering this can happen when crank bearings go out. We have been refused by daimler chrysler, and the dealership to cover under warranty even though we have not reached our warranty limit. Also be aware as of 2002 daimler chrsyler is no longer participating in the lemon law program.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7l 2wd quad cab. On october 30th, my vehicle decided it was ganna let go of three sensors all at once. An ignition, timing, and ??hyac?? , cost me almost 750$ in parts and labor at my local dealership. One (1) week later my truck began to overheat. Upon inspection, i found a hairline fracture in the radiator fill reservoir stem. I came to the conclusion that the overheating was due to a pressurization problem. After that was fixed and the truck was running my radiator exploded under normal operating temperatures. After the radiator and the water pump and thermostat were replaced and i had the truck running again i drove down the road to provide sufficient circulation of the fluids and out of the sudden string of events it started to emit white smoke and i was running out of radiator fluid all due to a ruptured head gasket. After replacing all of the top end engine gaskets and the cylinder head bolts, i started up my truck again and it ran great for about two (2) minutes and grinded, choked, tinged, panged, banged and finally sputtered to a stop. I started from the top of the engine,...again....and found that my cam shaft gear had spun on the camshaft and sheared the cam lobe that is suppose to lock it into place. I havent touched it since and all together my family has payed 1700$ just to have a broken vehicle in our driveway.

Check engine light came on code says its related to a condenser fan and wiring harness problem there is a technical service bulletin out on it and dealer says it is not covered.

2002dodge ram1500 4.7 engine defect defective cylinder heads, loss of oil pressure engine lock up with loss of power steering and power brakes i have found hundreds of reports of engine failure they most often start with a cylinder misfire and go from their.

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab has a surging problem at highway speed. The check engine light will come on and it is read as transmission fluid pressure sensor. This was replaced with a factory sensor and within 2 weeks it did it again. After 200 miles the light went out and the surging stopped only to start and stop repeatedly up to this date, 8/23/2010. How can a sensor repair itself? impossible! mileage at first check engine light was less than 100,000. Also dash is cracked to a completely unacceptable level for the age of the vehicle and mileage on dash at 138,000 with care taken to keep it clean and conditioned. Cracks began at 85,000 miles. Wipers when operating on high will lower speed and will continue to change from high to low intermittently unless they are turned off and turned back on several times. Do not consider this safe in any way. Intermittent wiper use with delay feature seems to be completely okay.air conditioner will only blow cold air on driver's side and blows warm air on passenger side. After 45 minutes of a/c use, roaring sound issues from the vents and a gradual decrease in all air begins until only wisps of air escapes from driver side vents.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge ram quad cab.the contact stated that the radiator was leaking on the side or underneath the vehicle.the failure occurs everytime the vehicle is driven.the contact has not taken the vehicle to the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 146,000.

I'm a mechanic i change the oil regularly with valvoline and the engine sludges up . This weekend went out of town and the engine lost oil pressure causing it to blow up resulting in my family getting stranded 400 miles from home. It took four days and a 1000.00 to get it back home and now it sits in my driveway because i don't have the money for a new engine . 2002 dodge ram 4.7l .

Check engine light keeps coming on.*nlm

My oil pump went out on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab and dodge dealership and daimler chrysler state they are not responsible. It is still under warranty. They say it is due to sludge in the engine from lack of oil changes. I had the oil changed from service centers. The damage is over $1000.00

I have had my dodge ram quad cab in for service over 15 times for rust, wiring, two recalls, engine lights, bad gas cap, bad steering wheel, and list continues....

We had a tune-up and plug change 6/27/08, a month later 7/21/08 the engine started making a tapping noise. Pulled over, lifted hood and found an oil fill cone stuck in the oil fill and the oil cap stuck up under the side wall. The dealership found that the rocker arm had come off, reinstalled the rocker arm and did an oil change at no charge to us. 4/23/09 the check engine light came on, code p0300 and we paid to replace the #6 rocker arm. 7/13/09 the check engine light came on again p0300. Dealership added treatment and decarboned the engine. On 8/2/09 the check engine light came on again p0300. Tried to drive the vehicle to the dealership 8/3/09 and the oil pressure dropped off to zero. We called dealership & advised of problem, that we did not want to drive it in and would have the vehicle towed. Vehicle towed to dealership on 8/5/09. Dealership didn't even look at the truck until 8/10/09. They replaced the head gasket, did a valve job, replaced the oil switch, thermostat and water pump. The truck was picked up from the dealership on 8/18/09. On 8/22/09 when started the truck made the tapping noise again. On 8/24/09, i notified the dealership of the noise and was told to it should resolve itself and bring it in only if it makes the noise again. On 8/31/09 the truck made the tapping noise again on start up. Vehicle taken back to dealership on 9/1, told 9/3 that another rocker arm was going bad. The dealership said they would fix but when asked what was causing the rocker arms to keep coming off was due to engine sludge. Since i could not document every single oil change (at least half done by owner) the dealership could attest to the maintenance of the vehicle.

2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7 engine. I have 3 complaints. The first is the engine oil pressure dropping to 0. I understand from looking at complaint sites a lot of people are having this problem. Many have had to replace the engines. My other problem is cosmetic. The dash in my truck is cracked in about 8 places. I have talked to others and they are having the same issues. The third complaint is the radiator failed and had to be replaced. It had plastic tanks which cracked. I think chrysler should make these problems right.

I have 2002 ram 2 wheel drive with a high output turbo diesel. The check engine light came on at 23300 mile, it used 14 gallons of diels to go 56 miles. When i took it to the dealer they sayed the fuel injector pump was bad and it will be fixed free under warranty. The only other complaint is that thedoors whisle and it is being looked at by consumer affairs to be fixed.

2002 dodge ram 4wd 4 door currently on third engine after 2 drive train failures.today theengine began making thudding noises, the vehicle bucked and the engine light was blinking.further, when the front tire hits a small pot hole or other road deformity, the vehicle abruptly veers requiring drastic counter steering to correct, often nearly out of control.repeated attempts to inform daimler-chrysler corp. Have met with indifference and failure to acknowledge problem exists.i am concerned for my safety as well as my family's safety whenever i drive this vehicle.keith bills.

Engine failure.

Have owned 02 ram 1500 quad cab short bed for over a year now.after purchasing in aug 02 had immediate problems with front end vibration/skip.dealership replaced 3 sets of rims and 4 sets of tires, skip seams to be gone.however, continue to have vibration/shake at 40 mph and above, seems as if it is a drive train or engine problem but milton dodge in milton florida states there is no problem.if a water bottle is sitting in the cup holder you can really tell had bad the truck vibrates/shakes.have over 12 dealer service invoices where they have tried to correct with no success.*ph

During heavy rain, or in a car-wash, or running through too large of a puddle of water, the serpentine belt begins slipping an excessive amount.it will slip enough to cause the gauge that is showing the charge level to drop noticeably, and it will sometimes drop to the point of no longer showing charging at all.at this point the check engine light is also displayed, and it is now necessary to turn the ignition off and restart the truck to reset the gauge and light and have it begin displaying properly again.during a heavy downpour of rain, this problem occurred again as i was going around a curve and the power steering failed.this is obviously due to the fact that the power steering pump is driven by this belt.had there been another vehicle in the oncoming lane of traffic, i would have had an accident that i could not have prevented due to this failure.i am not satisfied with the answer that there is nothing that can be done to correct this problem.this is a truck, and it should be able to handle some water.if this problem truly exists in all trucks like mine, then it is only a matter of time before someone has a serious accident and files a lawsuit against dodge, or even a class-action suit if enough people are really affected by the same problem.had i been in an accident when the power steering failed on my truck, im certain that dodge would have been held liable for both my damages and whomever i had hit.the problem might be resolved by replacing all the pulleys with wider ones and then a wider serpentine belt, or it might be resolved by adding some type of splash guard, but that would probably not resolve the water coming through the grill.one of my employees has the new hemi dodge truck, and his belt is slightly wider, and he does not have this particular problem.

Dashboard (badly cracked). At this point the dash on this vehicle have been breaking off like a wafer cookie and exposing the components underneath a/c ,electrical, steering components. *ln

A/c condenser shroud fan stopped.internet search revealed that the design was defective and replaced with a new design at a replacement cost of approx $500.00.

Headlights, wipers, and turn signals do not work properly on my 2002 dodge ram pickup. Headlights switched to high beam, will not switch to low beam and vice a versa. Wipers will not go to steady wiping, or fast wiping sporadically. Turn signals will signal 'right turn' when i switch the lever for a 'left turn', and vice a versa, and sometimes they will not work at all.there has been no accidents yet, and i have refrained from driving at night or when it is raining if possible.

All the sudden all rear lights went off took to garage they couldn't tell what was wrong after paying to find out nothing and they having truck for 2 days and dead battery from trying a bunch of [xxx], i brought it home and started to try for myself it was the fuse box of all things i have never in my life heard of having to replace fuse box about 500.00 , and dash is cracked all over the place priced to replace cost about 700.00 i will wait to see if they are going to replace it already had to get defroster vent fixed from stuff falling in there ,i have seen a lot of owners complain about these things going wrong but i thought one more my make a difference . I would hope that this is recalled before some one gets injured and all so the back door wiring on both sides went bad had to repair they i would thing that is a fire issue but who am i the consumer we don't know anything that's why i a women fix my own truck. Hope something is done about these problems..information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While attempting to make a left hand turn with the directional signal activated, several vehicles attempted to pass on my left. To my dismay i discovered that the directional indicator was signaling a right turn while in the left activated position. This has happened several times. Dealer cannot reproduce problem, so no action is taken. The problem has progressed to now i can change the directional from left to right by raising or lowering the tilt steering wheel when the signal indicator is activated. Some times it just does not go on at all.

The lift pump on my 2002 dodge ram 2500 diesel went out while driving.the truck start jerking every time i went to accelerate and nearly caused an accident.after having talked to others with a same truck, others have experienced the same problem.at the time of the incident, the truck had about 19,000 miles on it and was a year and 6 months old.i would not expect this type of failue on a new truck with so little miles on it.

Fuel lift pump failure, followed shortly after by a main fuel pump failure (vp 44). The cummins 5.9 diesel dodge ram has only 60,000 highway miles on it!at 50,000 miles the rear brakes were completely worn out to the point of being dangerous.

Plastic tank has no skid plate and because it's near the exhaust pipe, if the tank was punctured, it could cause and explosion. Vehicle has not been affected with the concern. Dealer was notified.

I have had my dodge ram quad cab in for service over 15 times for rust, wiring, two recalls, engine lights, bad gas cap, bad steering wheel, and list continues....

Vehicle stalled on freeway - loss of power - could not start.

(1( return lines to fuel pump cracked and leaking fuel down and under truck which is a 2002 3500 dodge ram with a 5.9 liter high output turbo diesel.(2)the metal fuel lines cracked and was leaking fuel out on the block , frame ,and under carriage this is and was a fire hazard under the hood of this truck if fuel heated sufficiently to combust into flames . (#) the metal tubes were replaced and show not signs of being struck or hitand signs of corrosion.the old parts were kept from the local dodge repair . This shows not sign except fatigue as the part came from the factory and someone else could not be in a position to shut the motor off and not drive it except to the dealer for repair without a fire .

The rear door locks onthe 2002 ram 1500 will not unlock without hitting the button more than 8-9 times.thiswas frustrating becausei paid thousands of dollars for this truck, and i would expect things like this to work onfirst try.

Bought truck in 2009. Drive a couple times a week. Transmission has went out 5 times now including this morning. Was told by a coworker that theres ab issue with the dodgers not circulating fluid when idling in gear.??? either way this will be the 5th time in 10 years taking it to get rebuilt!!!! which has been 2,500.00 to 4,000.00 each time!!! really bout to give up on dodge

Rear end locked up going down highway at approximately 45 mph, sent me sliding into the slow lane and then off of the highway into a driveway coming to a halting stop with my tailgate was still partially in a heavily traveled highway. The driveshaft also dropped down and eventually came completely off and i had to call a roll back to come get truck. I have had this 2002 truck for the past 11 years and i have never been notified by dodage that this could be a major issue. Allin all it has been a good truck. This incident really scared me, as i work out of this truck with my business and now i have to suffer a loss for not being able to work until i spend a good some of money to fix this issue so i am able to use it again.

Transmission goes into high gear too soon, causing too much downshifting when i need to speed up. It goes into o/d at 45 mph. Very sluggish when i need to speed up unless i give it lots of throttle and then it drops out of overdirve and skips 4th gear and goes into 3rd.in town when you get up to 30 mph the transmission pops like it is trying to downshifting straight to 1st.i have had it to the dealer 3 times with no results.i feel they are trying to wear me out so i will quit coming back

- the contact stated that while driving at about 60 mph in the2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab the transmission locked.the truck disengaged from overdrive, and the overdrive light turned on.he pushed the button to engage the overdrive.he drove about one mile and the transmission light turned on. He had to drive another 1/2 mile to get to safe place.once there he put the truck in neutral, set the emergency brake ,and he checked the transmission fluid.he stated that when he checked the transmission fluidit seemed that there was too much on the dip stick.he turned off the vehicle and let the vehicle sit for about five minutes, checked again., and the fluid was normal on the dip stick.when he restarted the vehicle all lights on dash seemed to be normal.he drove another 100 miles and the vehicle was fine.he stated that the next morning he drove to work and back home, and the next day the transmission slipped.the next day the over drive off light turned on and the vehicle lost power. Mhad to put the vehicle in first gear and drove to the dealership.the contact stated that this vehicle had 87,000 miles, and was informed him that somethingcame loose in the transmission ,and that was what caused the transmission to seize. The contact called the manufacturer, and was told that maybe someone will get back with him at later date. The current mileage was 87879.

Transmission hits hard when taking off and when slowing down, dealer has put in new trans. And computer, but this truck still has same problems

While driving down the road at about 60 miles per hour or so i lost my overdrive and 3 rd gear of my transmission. Dodge dealer reports the valve body went out on my truck it had only been out of warranty by about 3000 miles. Dodge would not work wit me even thou they admitted to having some come it. So i had to have the valve body replaced. While sitting in the service area waiting for my truck to be fixed a customer came in to get a heater core for his 2002. Guess what less then a month after spending 1300.00 to get my transmission fixed the heater core went out on mine . Is this common or am i just the lucky one? as the heater core failed it did dump anti freeze in the cab of the truck and on the carpet. I have yet to have the heater core replaced.

Ongoing vibration in rear axle at highway speeds.dodge has rotated and rebalanced original tires, had goodyear replace all 4 tires with newtires 3 times, has sent the truck to big-o for road force balancing 3 times, has rebalanced original driveshaft and then replaced the driveshaft with a new one all to no avail.has been in for repairs 14 times so far.the final time goodyear replaced the tires, their store manager performed his own test for vibration.he mounted and balanced the new tires and then put the truck into the air on a hydraulic lift taking it up to highway speed.he noted the vibration, then removed the tires from the wheels, still noted the vibration and then removed the wheels from the axle and still noted the vibration.this was noted to both repair dealers, also to no avail.

I took my truck to have an oil change and 60,000 mile service at the dealer.i was told that the rear end needed to be overhauled because the brackets to my rear differential were broken, and if i did not have it repaired, the brackets would fall down into the spider gears and while i was driving, it would cause the truck to lock up.i took it to get another opinion and was told the same thing.i was also told that if they repaired it back to the way it was manufactured, i would continue to have the same problem.i went online to http://www.minerich.com/dodge_ram.htm and read numerous reports of people with the same problem and had to have it repaired more than once.the shop i took it to did not restore it to the way it was manufactured, but instead fixed the problem so that it would not happen again.this truck is only used to be driven back and forth to work.

On two occasions, upon installing a child seat in the middle section of the rear seat in my 2002 quad cab dodge ram, the plastic tension clip on the seat beltthat holds the tension to keep the seat belt in place has broken.first time, dodge replaced for free, the second occurrence, 10 months & 14,000 miles later the clip broke again.the second occurrence, dodge replaced the part, but not the labor.first occurrence took place in october of 2004, and second occurrence happen in august of 2005.

1.driver's power seat frame assembly failed for no apparent reason and without warning.2.this failure results in the seat suddenly rocking forward or backward, especially under braking making it difficult to control the vehicle and rendering the vehicle inoperable.this is a serious safety concern.i understand that this part failure is not uncommon and understand that there is a factory technical service bulletin on this problem, tsb 23.033.013.part #5080615ab, left side power seat adjuster was replaced under factory warranty on 12/17/04.this same part and part #5080614ab, right side power seat adjuster were replaced on 8/5/05 under a factory extended service contract.these parts failed again on 1/17/06 and are scheduled to replaced as soon as the new parts arrive at the dealer.old parts are not available from prior repairs.failed parts from 1/17/06 failure will likely need to be returned as a warranty item to the manufacturer.

Lack of rear seat head rests in 2002 ram 1500 quad cab.rear seat passengers seem to be at risk of a head injury in case of an accident. Rear seat passengers heads' are on the glass due to the lack of rear seat head rests.i believe there is enough of a safety concern to warrant the retrofit of the current year rear seat head rests into the 2002 model year vehicles to mitigate the obvious risk of head injury to rear seat passengers.

I have lees than 45000 miles on my truck and the break pads on the front have been changed six times. Rotors are fine, the last three times the pads were changed in less then 18 months. When getting the pads from a national auto store the computer brought up bigger pads that would be for my quad cab. They didn't fit and i had to go with the regular cab brake pads. I contacted the dealer they checked them out and said it was the right size caliper on the truck. When i told them about the auto store only bringing up the longer pads they offered to change my rotors and break for a great deal of $400. No thank you.

Brakes start to squeak and shimmy. Squeaking very loud when coming to stop. Squeak lasts for about 3 days then sounds like metal to metal and can feel in pedal. Truck starts to shimmy at high speed then applying brakes to stop. I have down 3 complete brake jobs front and rear, best pads, rotors, everything. New replacement rotors have been replaced twice due to warping. The brakes should last longer the 3-4 months which in miles terms is less than 25,000 miles. I am now on my 4th brake job and i shouldn't be. There is a definite problem with the system. Needs to be addressed. This is becoming extremely costly.

While traveling on wet road came upon high water and a vehicle spun out half on the shoulder, half in my lane. Applied the brakes which locked up. Slid into spun vehicle hitting head on at 40-45mph. Neither driver or passenger airbags deployed. Front end was heavily damaged.

This vehicle is experiencing the same problemsas indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to vin.the vehicle has not been repaired at this time. Updated 12/27/2005 - when the consumer's foot was taken off the gas pedal the vehicle almost comes to a complete stop.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair facility who informed the consumer that the brakes were locked and that the part to repair them was recalled.

I have a 2002 ram quad cab 4x4. The rotors needed to be turned to eliminate a severe brake vibration at about 15000 miles. At 28000 they need to be replaced to correct the problem again. I still have not worn out the original brake pads. Dodge customer service contends that the problem has occured because of driving style, road conditions and the weather. I contend that they are poorly designed rotors. A ram "tough" truck should be able to withstand my wife's highway commute to work. These brake "failures" reduce the effective braking ability of the truck, compromise control and put undue stresses on the other suspension components. These brakes are an accident waiting to happen.

I bought a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab and just returned home from bringing my vehicle to the dodge dealership. I had asked them to check out the shaking that i experienced during braking. They informed me all four rotors are warped and the surface could not be cut because they would become too thin.at this point the dealership wants me to spend $800.00 to correct the problem. Being that this is a safety issue and from what i have read on the internet a widespread issue with the rotors that it should be covered under the warranty.

Disc brake rotor failure - repeated problem.dealer replaced pads and rotors for third time at 18798 miles.problem is back, only 1700 miles since last pad and rotor change.no towing, hauling, or other heavy use involved.vehicle shakes very hard as soon as brakes are applied.problem gets worse until the vehicle is uncontrollable in stops.*la

2002/up dodge ram 1500 brake rotors. I am having serious problems with my brakes and dcx refuses to cover this under my warranty. It is not an isolated problem. Please refer to www.dodgetruckworld.com. *nlm

Brakes shaking seems rotors are warping early. Pads look like new not much wear on them. I feel unsafe. Please save lives here. Thank you.

Brake rotors severly warped at 20,000miles. Dealer turned rotors at customer expense, blamed the problem on driving style. Rotors warped again within 15,000 miles. Problem is so severe that alignment has been forced out of spec. Truck now darts under braking. The truck is used for commuting. It has never been used for towing and does not frequently haul loads. When loaded it is kept under the load limit. Apparently, the brakes are incapable of surviving a few freeway off ramps on the daily commute. Manufacturer was contacted and refuses to resolve the problem. The complaints listed on the nhsta site is a fraction of realworld problems. Every owner of this vehicle i have spoken to to has had the same problem. Employees at the st. Louis plant routinely replace the brakes on their new trucks when they take delivery. It's common knowledge that the brakes are subpar. It is unfortunate that daimler-chrysler chooses to cut costs on such a critical componant. I will be replacing my brake rotors with high quality aftermarket parts at my own expense in order to have a safe vehicle.

I have a 2002 dodge ram quad 1500. I just had it serviced for its 30,000 miles maintenance required. While i was there i also had them look at the front brakes because of a vibration i would get when applying the brakes.was told upon inspection of the brakes, that the rotors where warped.this doesn't make any sense to me only 30,000 miles on the truck still havefull brake pads on front. I was told that it happens sometimes when towingtrailers or heavy loades where the trailer has no braking system. I don't tow trailers. It was also suggested that the way i drive is the problem.if this was the problem there should be some ware on the brake pads?they also told me that they have seen trucks like mine with as little as 11,000 miles with the same problem. I said there must be some kind of defect with this braking system. He told me no that the brakes where big enought for the truck but that they where badly designed which causes them to heat up and warp the rotors. I know i'm probably wasting my time sending this to you. But i've been driving for some time now i'm 53 years old. I have never in all my driving had to even replace brakes before 40,000 miles let alone rotors. I think that they have a seriour problem here with these brakes. I just hope that something can be done before some one gets hurt or even dies because of brake system failure.

We have a 2002 dodge ram quad cab that we feel is unsafe. We had to have the front rotors refaced at 18,000 miles and again at 30,000 miles after taking a 2100 mile trip. At that time, we also had to have the back rotors replaced.a 1/2 ton pickup truck should have abetter brake system than that. Neither time were the brake pads replaced. We have contacted chrysler and they told us it was due to either road conditions, driving habits or weather.we feel this is a safety issue because they go bad so quickly with no warning and chrysler will not acknowledge this. There is definitely a defect in the brake/rotor system and itshould be corrected before someone is injured or killed.

Brake rotors began to warp and were turned by dealer in september.problem began to develop again and vehicle was returned to dealer 1/23/2004.dealer recommends replacement of rotors at customer expense.definite safety hazard in adverse weather...will not repair them again as this is a definite defect in this vehicle and i cannot afford to replace rotors every couple of months. *la

Simultaneous failure of the inter and outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints on a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. Thevehicle has never been use as a work truck, driven on dirt roads and currently has 120,000 highway miles. Rack and pinion is leaking oil, and needs to be replaced is coming a part.

I have had my dodge ram quad cab in for service over 15 times for rust, wiring, two recalls, engine lights, bad gas cap, bad steering wheel, and list continues....

The steering wheel was unable to turn.

Steering has pulled to the right continuously and consistantly since purchase.have followed all procedures including:been to service dept. 6+ times, notified daimler chrysler, etc.told there is nothing wrong with the steering and i am out of luck.it is a "lemon".i am filing a lawsuit.

While driving along the front end makes noises. But if you hit a bump or if the road is split, and it gets bumped the steering on the truck will snatch and throw you around. I have noticed this many times. My wife said it does it all time. I was not expecting it to do this will traveling and nearly wrecked. I believe there is something wrong with this truck.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4, very well maintained and was never abused. About 8 months ago i noticed a crack on the dashboard on the passenger side. Within several months one crack had grown to 6 cracks. Then about 1 month ago theair would not flow through the dash vents anymore. In order to find out the problem i had to remove the dash board to get the heat and air system. When i removed the dash board it crumbled into about 20 pcs. Upon inspection of the air problem i found out the blend door that controls the air to the dash was broken. Seems this is a problem. I am now having to replace the dashboard, front and rear pc and the 4 blend doors in the air system. While replacing the shocks i noticed the rack and pinion was leaking extremely bad which has never leaked before. No noise while turning the steering wheel, no warning light to advise of the problem.

I had to replace the upper and control arms ( both sides) because the tires were wearing uneven. I do not drive this pick-up off road! if you look at the lack of size to the ball joints, it is amazing they lasted 3 years.

In cold weather, steering wheel will not turn or is very stiff when vehicle is first driven.degree of steering effort required is variable and impossible to anticipate when driving.*la

The contact owns a 2002 dodge ram quad cab. While making a right turn at 20 mphinto his driveway the steering column locked.he was able to safely turn the vehicle off. A representative from the dealer and manufacturer stated that they were unaware of this type of failure. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 72,100.

Nar 05/21/2003*mrthe consumer experienced problemswith gear shifts. Dealer notified.

Power steering fluid leakage.i have to dump a whole bottle in once a week.ball joints need replaced.lifters in motor knock and have to be fixed.

I had to replace the steering rack and all its components at only 54,000 miles on a 2002 dodge ram 1500. I looked into this and this is a very common thing to happen, and it should not be happening at such low mileage, some as low as 20,000 miles! i think dodge needs to look into this and find out why it is falling apart so soon, and possibly issue a recall and a reimbursement for those of us who already spent the 1100 to fix it!

Failure of rack and pinion.

My 2002 dodge ram quad cab pickup has 49,000 miles on it.i recently brought it in to get an alignment and brakes checked, when the service writer informed my that my rack and pinion steering was leaking.49,000 miles!if the steering is lost, the consequences could be serious, and even fatal.i called dodge corporate for out of warranty assistance, and after sitting on hold for 30 minutes, they came back to tell me because of procedure, they will not be able to help me.the cost to fix this is $675 parts and labor.i feel that a four wheel drive truck should have it's rack and pinion last longer than 49,000 miles, and that dodge should step up to the plate and help out.dodge obviously does not feel that way.

For no apparent reason and without warning, the rack and pinion steering failed causing excessive leaking of power steering fluid and failure of the power steering.dodge/chrysler denied any assistance to the issue.the vehicle is a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab, 4.7 liter engine. 72,000 highway miles.it has come to my attention from the dealer that this is a common problem that can happen 2,000 miles to 200,000 miles indicating the continued use of a defective part.despite my willingness to accept the labor costs of the repair chrysler refuses to assist with the cost of the $600.00 part.there is no after market part available due to the truck being "too new" according to the dealer.this part failed due to a manufacturing issue and not abuse on my part.the part can not be repaired and must be replaced since dodge/chrysler does not supply a parts package to repair the part.due to this fact the part must be replaced and not repaired.this is also a great safety issue as the power steering leaked out without warning causing the loss of power steering.an accident could have resulted from the loss of power steering.

'02 dodge ram 1500 steering loss due to rack and pinion leaking and failing. This has happen twice now and the truck only has 58,000 mi. On it. Please make dodge recall these trucks before someone gets killed.

Rack & pinion steering leaks and very hard to turn when vehicle is cold, has been replaced twice and still a problem, also severe corrosion of front bumper, is ordered and will be replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge ram 3500 quad. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracking from the windshield to the molding. The contact was cut on the finger when the dashboard caved in and he attempted to pull it back out. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the dashboard would be replaced at his expense. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current mileage was approximately 160,000. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

This is my second complaint for cracking/crumbling dashboards on 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. First complaint was made feb. 2009 with failure date of july 28, 2008, odi id number : 10259545. I have not seen any investigation reports only climbing consumer complaints. I can't believe there has been no progress. My fingers are crossed something will happen soon.

Dashboard is cracking and falling in exposing electrical components to sunlight and intense heat. The problem is getting worse as time goes on.

I have a 2002 dodge 1500 pickup truck. It has approximately 30,000 miles and has always been garaged. It is in like new condition except for the dash board which has recently formed many hairline cracks. I have been reading on line, motor trend thread, that this is an apparent problem with these vehicles and can develop into grave safety issues.in fact the dashboards in some vehicles have collapsed and have caused electric problems. Also the airbags integrity is questioned. You may have already received complaints from other people regarding this issue. I have contacted chrysler/dodge regarding this problem and have not heard back from them. Please let me know what i can do to assure my families safety? outside of not driving the truck i am unsure what else to do?

I own a 2002 dodge ram truck that has 63,000 miles and the dash is cracking all around in different spots. I have read on many different web sites that my truck is not the only one having the same problem. I contacted dodge about the problem and was told that there was nothing that was their responsibility. So the next step was to file a complaint with the safercar.gov to see if they would look into the problem.

Forward plastic dashboard failure. Dash cracked and broke in about five places.

The top of the dash on my 2002 dodge ram is severely cracked.this issue has been taking place since approximately 2004 and is now starting to work it's way to the front of the dash.i thought this problem occurred because it was parked outside, but i have since learned this is a common problem among many (if not most) dodge rams.i also did not know that there was a place to report this problem until now.otherwise, i would have reported this years ago.

Dodge 2002 ram quad cab dash board cracking and collapsing.

Iowna 20 02 dodge ram 1500 quad cab.i am writing to inform you that the dashboardhas cracked into many pieces. The truck was not in a wreck.i am one of quite a few people with the same problem.if dodge will not correct the problem of poor equipment, then at least don't charge 1500.00 to replace it.thanks for you time.

Dashboard cracks - small crack approx. 1inch, 1 yr. Ago. And now, 4 large cracks, 2 on the pass. Side and the other 2 at the center of the dash.i purchased the veh. Brand new.

This 6 year old dodge truck has developed three cracks in the dashboard that run from the front to the back.i believe that the function of my air bags may be affected in a crash due to these cracks.dodge has indicated that there is no defect in this part and i am responsible for any and all repairs.

The dashboard in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab is cracking. I have heard that this is a known problem in many dodge trucks and that daimler chrysler is aware of this and may or may not issue a recall. Chrysler needs to replace these dashboards before major mechanical or electrical problems occur. The crack is getting bigger all the time and others are starting.

The dash on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracking and falling apart. This is a serious safety hazard if the truck is in an accident, sharp pieces of plastic could injury people in the truck and interfere with the airbags. There are hundreds of other reports just like mine on the internet but dodge will not do anything about it but charge the customer approximately $800.00 to replace it.

Collapsed dashboard.

The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 pickup is cracked in multiple places and some of the grill pieces that cover the defroster ducts have fallen into the ducts. The truck is only 5 years old and i am the only owner.i have friends that have fords and chevy's from the same year or earlier and their dashboard isn't cracking in such a way.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quard cab truck. The dashboard has cracks from one side to the other.from the front of the dash to the back of it.

I have a 2002 dodge ram that has 5 cracks in the dashboard.4 of the cracks go from the window to the defroster vents ,and one goes from the side defroster vent to the glove box. At this time there have been no repairs or recalls to correct this problem.

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab pu.cracked dashboard.sharp edges could be a serious issue.also, the sun visors fall down unexpectedly causing temporary limited visibility.

2002 dodge ram quad cab dash board is cracked/split in 5 or more places.in other words the dash is deteriorating.the material is apparently very brittle.dodge told me it would cost $1500 to replace it with the same dash that would crack again in 5 years.i called dodge and was told there were no reported problems and they would not consider any help in replacement or admit a design flaw.other places are reporting the entire dash is falling in and effecting the electrical system operation.

The dashboard in my 2002 dodge ram quad cab pick up truck is falling apart. It is breaking off in large sections causing the wires to be exposed. The cost to repair it apx. 2000 dollars. I have seen numerous complaints about this. Why is dodge not being held responsible for a recall on this ??????

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab, dashboard is cracking for no specific reason.cracks are not just superficial but rather completely through the dashboard structure and therefore should be considered a safety hazard to occupants.pieces of the dash could become projectiles in the event of an emergency stop or if involved in a collision.there is no substructure to stop pieces of the dash from falling into the interior workings of the cab and perhaps causing instrument failure, fires etc.this default needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured or killed.

I have 2002 dodge ram 1500 with a cracked dash which is bad the cracks started out small and now there are several. In the event of an airbag deployment what is to stop this dash from separating and causing life threatening injuries. Dodge needs to recognize this as a major safety concern and recall for replacement.

2002 dodge quad cab 1500 the dash is falling apart. It has several cracks and the vents grates are falling creating jagged edges which could effect air bag safety and potential wiring damage.

Dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab snapped in four pieces while driving over a speed bump. I searched for a dashboard on the internet and found a lot of complaints that this is happening to a lot of dodge vehicles, even some 2006 models. It seems that the plastic that they used to make this dashboards its not durable at all. Thought maybe the south texas heat had caused the dash to weaken, but have also found out its happening in a lot of different zip codes. There is some vehicles that have holes on the dash that are in 18in in diameter, i have become very concerned about this issue, and have contacted chrysler with no success on even taking a look at what happened to my vehicle, they are apparently not doing anything about it. I think with a crash and these dashboards breaking, the pieces are sharp and the airbag deploying it can cause a much larger damage, also with the holes on the dash it exposes the wiring and electronic parts to the intense heat the can cause it to overheat ant catch on fire or malfunction of other electronic parts, i don't know if i am the only one complaining to you guys about this, but something has to be done, please investigate before something tragic happens when one of these vehicles participates on a accident, i fear for my safety and my passengers.

2002 dodge ram 1500.dashboard is cracked in multiple areas and caving in.reported to dodge at 60,000 miles (now 114,000 miles)dodge claimed it was not covered under any warranty.now the dash is caving in and pieces fly around cabin when sharp movements are made.

Dash board cracks, requesting a replacement at company's cost.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab truck.the dashboard started cracking approximately 2 years ago. Therearefive cracks in the dashboard now.i thought it was just my vehicle.however, i have heard several other dodge ram owners having the same problem.

The dash on our 2002 dodge ram quad cab is cracked from the windshield to the outside molding. If i was ever in an accident the pieces would fly off and passengers and driver would sustain serious injury or death. I can't believe chrysler corp has not fixed this know problem. They need to fix the problem and be held accountable. Please please please make them fix it.

2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with cracked dashboard.

Complete failure of dodge ram 2002 pu dash.the dash has cracked in multiple places (more than 20) and has disintegrated.the truck has not been parked in excessively hot or dry climates.

Dashboard has started to crack, about 6 inches and growing.

Many cracks on dashboard which could cause safety issue if airbag is deployed. Searching on internet and found many customers with same issue. One florida tv station did a report on this problem in 2007. There needs to be an investigation so a recall can happen.

Dash is cracking in several places dropping parts of dashboard into fan motor to overheat causing interference with air conditioner operation.

I just purchased a 2002 dodge 1500 quad cab and about a week after i bought it the dash has cracked in 3 different places from windshield to front of dash. I was cleaning the dash and did not see one of the cracks and cut my hand on it. They have very sharp edges on them. At this time i have not repaired it.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4, very well maintained and was never abused. About 8 months ago i noticed a crack on the dashboard on the passenger side. Dashboard is cracking in several places from front to back for unknown reason. No chemicals used on dash. Believe this may cause pass. Side airbag from deploying or may cause pieces of the dash to turn into projectiles if airbag deploys.

Dodge ram 1500 2002 model dash board falling apart so bad it is now cracking around the air bag area i feel this is a safety hazard and dodge should replace this dash before an accident occurs and someone get hurt because of sharp edges around the dash from falling apart.

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab, dashboard is cracking for no specific reason. Cracks are not just superficial but rather completely through the dashboard structure and therefore should be considered a safety hazard to occupants. Dash started cracking at 30,000 miles.dealership refuse to repair said it was my fault.texas heat.the dash material is literally disintegrating.material is defective, have other dodge vehicles that are older and nothing wrong with them and they are older and were never kept in garage.

The main dash in my 2002 dodge ram is cracked just above the passenger side airbag.heard thatother dodge owners had the same problem and got it fixed under warranty from the dealership.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 truck. The dashboard has several cracks in it from one side to the other. I saw on the news that other ram truck owners have the same problem

I have a 2002 quad cab 1500 and the dash has cracked in several places. I now has a crack all the way across the dash.(windshield to the glove box) i own a 1973 dodge dart and the dash is perfect. What is going on with my 2002 dodge 1500?

The dash on my 2002 dodge ram is cracking for no apparent reason and dodge will not do anything about it and there are plenty of people across the u.s. Having the same trouble.

Multiple dash cracks.

Dt: the drivers side assist handle that was used to get into vehicle came off in the consumers hand and he fell out of truck on his back. The consumerwas not hurt. The consumer was concerned about his grandmother using the one on the passenger side to help her get in. The dealerreplaced them all the time.

Dash cracking and collapsed in 2002 dodge ram 1500 crew cab truck. The damage continues to get worse and now my electrical system is in jeopardy, along with my lack of protection that is provided by a solid dash.

The dashboard onthe v 2002 dodge ram was beginning to crack.the crack started off very small, and withina couple of days, it spread across the width of the dashboard.

Dash cracked.

Driving down the road and hit a pothole. The dashboard cracked in several places and part of the vent fell down.

2002 dodge ram 1500 . Cracked dashboard . Dash is cracking so bad that it is starting to get holes . Falling plastic with jagged edges . Exposing wires that could possible cause shorts or fires .

The dashboard of my 2002 dodge ram 1500 has several large cracks and parts are starting to brake away. I feel that this could cause harm to me or my passengers if involved in an accident. I feel that it is very unsafe due to sharp hard plastic parts of the dash that could do serious harm. I also feel that this could affect the defrost duct and cause the defroster to not work properly.

I own a 2002 dodge ram 1500.the dash is cracking.searching online i have found i am not the only one withproblem.i also have a problem with my airbag light going on and off.my truck has been garage kept since i bought it and only has 76,000 mile on it.i think this issue needs to be looked into with a recall since i see so many problems observed online with this year of truck.i am afraid that with wiring under the dash it might pose a safety problem.my airbag light did not start going on and off until i noticed by dash cracked.

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. The dash on the passenger side developed a total of four seperate cracks within a 6 week time frame. The cracks run from the windshield in the top section down into the section that contains the passenger side airbag. 3 of the cracks are in the top section while the fourth one is in the airbag section of the dash.

At approximately 25,000 on my vehicle, in the year of 2004, i noticed small cracks starting to form on the dashboard this progressed into much larger cracks, completely destroying the entire dashboard over the years. This was a safety issue, because small segments of the plastic material fell into the back of the dashboard causing failure of the air conditioner vents, defroster, and illumination of the dashboard lights. A recall should have been issued based on the thousands of complaints by dissatisfied owners. Chrysler corporation has agreed to repair the dashboard, but only if i agree to a $500 deductible, in which i have not agreed to, simply because i believe they are trying to charge me the difference between the wholesale and retail price, of the dashboard. I would appreciate any assistance in this matter. Thank you...updated 01/17/2013

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 and my dashboard is cracking and looking like a jigsaw puzzle.it started with one crack at the window area and now they are all over the dash.i haven't done anything to cause this to happen, it just cracks and keeps cracking.

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab.sun visor keeps falling.started out not going up all the way. Over time it will only go up part way.

I own a 2002 dodge ram 2500 and for several years now, the dashboard has been cracked and is over time caving in.i brought this to the attention of boniface hiers dodge in merritt island, fl and they said it was not under warranty and therefore would be my expense if i wanted it replaced.recently, i have experienced problems with my lights and believe it may be caused by the dashboard issue.our local news channel is running a story on this issue right now (www.local6.com, click on problem solvers)and has located several people throughout central florida that are having similar problems.i did not realize this was such a popular issue and i definitely feel something should be done to repair this problem.some of the other owners are saying that the dashboard is causing problems with wiring and could cause headlights to fail.that is a huge safety issue and i would think this would need to be fixed before any fatalities occur. I am embarrassed of the way the interior of my truck currently looks.i try to take good care of my truck as i expect to own it for several more years and vehicle appearance is important to me.while i thought this problem was simply cosmetic, i was embarrassed but not compelled to push the issue with dodge.now that i realize this could be a safety issue and my life or my husbands life could be in danger, i am very concerned.i have pictures i would be happy to forward to you if they will assist in your review of my case.thank you for your time and i look forward to your response.

2002 dodge ram quadcab pu- dashboard falling apart. No events leading up to it except for daily use. It is crumbling as i type. Pieces could lodge in defroster to cause failure. Seems like a safety concern to me.

Top of dash is cracking in numerous places around the defroster openings.this leaves numerous sharp edges on top of the dash.

I own a '02 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. Dash is cracking while driving, once i hit a pot hole, a piece flew off and hit me in the face. I was lucky that no one was traveling from the other direction. I could have been in a head on collision because i jerk the wheel to the left when the piece hit me under my right eye. I am concern that this is a safety hazard than a cosmetic problem. I bought a dash cover so i would not get hit again, but the weight seems to have accelerated the cracking. The dash part cost over $700 and is made of the same material and the process will repeat. This is a safety issue!!please look into this problem, thank you.

Craked dash, sharp metal and sharp broken chunks of plastic that used to be a dashboard. Not safe to drive this way! the parts if available are exspensive, why is this not recalled replacingusing better safer products.

The plastics used in the 2002 dodge ram interior are a safety issue.there is widespread evidence across the internet showing the dash breaking apart like mine.it is structurally unsound and dodge should find a safe solution.if i got into an accident sharp shards of dash flying around is more likely to cause injury than the impact of the crash.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge ram quad cab. The contact stated that the dashboard was fractured along the air conditioner and heater vent. The contact was concerned that the front passenger air bag could inadvertently deploy because of the fracture. The contact stated that the air conditioner and heater vent were inoperable on the lower settings due to obstruction from pieces of fractured debris. The contact stated that the air conditioner and heating system would only function on a high setting. The contact also stated that the windshield defroster was inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. The vin was not available.

Rack & pinion steering leaks and very hard to turn when vehicle is cold, has been replaced twice and still a problem, also severe corrosion of front bumper, is ordered and will be replaced.

I own a 2002 dodge 1500 4x4 quad cab pickup & the front doors gasket seals are leaking at higher speeds. It get so bad that the door start to shake at the hinge side of door. I spoke with dodge about this; i was told this is not the only unit doing this, that it was a simple fix of re-bending the hinges at a body shop. They explained that if this was reported in the frist 12 months or 12,000 miles it would have been covered under warrianty. The truck has 28,040 miles on it now still under the 30,000 mile warrianty. I beleive this to be a problem inherit to the truck design.

Frame rails are corroding. Driver's side has a 3' 6" section of badly corroded frame.there are holes large enough to put three fingers through. Passenger's side is beginning to corrode. Frame has not failed yet.

When the driver encounter rough roads and entered a turn he noticed that the front end bounced.there was a pulsation in the steering.the service dealer could not find the problem.*sc updated 01/11/06.

2002 4-door ram 1500 - 90k miles.entire driver's side wheel bearing hub assembly came apart and tire fell off.this part is not meant to ever break apart according to 2 independent mechanics. Im very lucky that i wasn't on the expressway commute yet, just pulling out on the road early in the morning.

I had to replace the upper and control arms ( both sides) because the tires were wearing uneven. I do not drive this pick-up off road! if you look at the lack of size to the ball joints, it is amazing they lasted 3 years.

There is a complaint already on file about the upper ball joint that fell out @17k miles. The complaint that i want to file now is the lower control arm tha is flexing when the brake is applied or when a bump is encountered. The truck will jump from one lane to the other when a rough place is hit at interstate speed. I have had it to the dealership on three different occasions and no one has ever had the time to even look at the problem. I bought the truck the last day of 2001 and now have 35k miles on it .i am afraid to drive it very much. When the first complaint was filed(because chrysler denided any claim) i thought i would at least get a response that i filed the complaint but to this day i have not. One more thing chrysler says that there has never been an injury attributed to the upper ball joint coming out of the 2002 dodge 1500, well i sent them the copy of the hospital report where i had 14 stitches across my nose and under my eye. Why has there not been any thing done about this problem? must someone be killed before someone looks into this?

While coming out of a curve the truck jolted, dipped and could not be controlled (1st failure). Subsequently i hit a telephone pole detrying the passenger side front panel and the truck slid to stop after "shutting off" ( 2nd failure). When i got out of the truck , behind me on the side of the road, the passenger side side wheel was laying on the ground still attached to the axle. There were no pot holes or rocks on the road to cause the "jolt". This is a similar condition that i believe has been described for the durango and dakota of the same year.

Power steering fluid leakage.i have to dump a whole bottle in once a week.ball joints need replaced.lifters in motor knock and have to be fixed.

Lower ball joints wearing out prematurally on 2002 dodge ram and other dodge trucks. Someone better start getting on dodge to fix this issue before people get killed. Costing the consumer alot of money in repairs. Probably planned by dodge.

Passenger side ball joint broke apart at 50,000 miles, with loss of control of vehicle, especially on gravel road and while braking....replaced at my expense, now less than one month later, the driver side ball joint seems to be going...this time with a little bit more warning than the last time....hopefully, other people are not having this problem and losing control of their truck..please let me know2002 dodge ram 4x4 quad cab 1500.

Upper ball joint failure was found during state inspection, was replaced at owners expense.seen recall on durangos and dakotoas, was hoping to get rams included.the vehicle has 52,000 miles never driven off road or abused and routine maintence at the dealership.

Both front shocks have to be replaced and the vehicle doesn't even have 29,000 miles on it. The left ball joint is shredded and all has to be replaced.

Since my purchase in august of 2002, i have had several close calls with my dodge quad cab.so far i have almost hit the divider on the freeway and a car head on at the top of a hill.there have been several other close calls, but i had to stop counting.i am having severe problems with my rear suspension on my dodge.i have had an alignment done, shocks replaced, and several attempts at getting it repaired by a dealership.each time i have taken it in, the service department tells me there is nothing wrong with it but they have been having complaints mentioned about the problem.they said it must be normal and they can't find anything wrong.before my shocks finally got replaced, i was at the point of finding a lawyer to fix this problem before i ended up dead on the road.but the service guy suddenly got my parts in stock.i am again to the point of desperately needing this issue resolved before something tragic happens to me or someone else.please contact me as soon as possible so we can both put this hazard to rest.

At speeds above 35 mph the rearend of my truck hops excessively and causes the rear to sway to the right when driving over average road surfaces with minor bumps or irregularities in the surface.on numerous occasions i have almost lost control of the truck and am very concerned to learn that other 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab owners are experiencing similar problems.

Rear end of truck moves over and makes truck uncontrolable. This happens at speeds from 35 mph and up. On the highway at speeds of 70 mph, the rear end jumps up and down rapidly on the highways. Many times i have to slow down to 55 or 60 to get it back in comtrol. I fear an accident is very possible. This problem has been ongoing since purchase of the truck. The dealer tells me it is just a truck and i have to deal with it. This is my 5th truck to own, and it is the first one to behave like this.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph, the mounting cable fractured and the spare tire detached from the cable.the spare tire landed on the pavement and skidded across incoming traffic.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer who determined that the spare tire winch assembly needed to be replaced.the contact ordered the parts and installed it.the manufacturer was notified.

Uneven wear of front tires. Tires wear on the inside of tread.this has occured since i purchased the vehicle new.i have had the tires balance/roatated and aligned every 10 to 15,000 miles with the same tread wear results each time.dodge will not help me to remedy this situation.i feel my truck is defective and i do not feel safe driving this truck.can someone please help me!!*la

Receiving hitch factory installed with the 2 of the 4 bolts missing almost lost trailer going down the road.

Cracks in dashboard.

Craked dash, sharp metal and sharp broken chunks of plastic that used to be a dashboard. Not safe to drive this way! the parts if available are exspensive, why is this not recalled replacingusing better safer products.

Drivers side a/c is 23 degrees hotter than passenger side. Had in shop 2 or 3 times and the dealer still cant figure out why. Theres only one control knob ,not a dual knob.

The dash in my 2002 ram 1500 has two cracks in it. Both at least 10 inches long.

Dashboard cracking on my dodge 2500 ram truck.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 p/u truck. I'm aware that it's out of warranty. I plan to keep this truck until i die. The dashboard is completely damaged. I now have a dash cover over it. And it's seem to be falling in as well. Please consider replacing my dash since it's the wrong material on all 3rd gens were made out of polyvinyl chloride. As time passes they dry out and crack. Causing pieces to fall inside causing problems with the blower and electrical system. I plan to travel from san diego ca to chicago ill. In august in my truck, i can't put anything on the dashboard without the fear of damage or malfunction to the electronics or other parts underneath.with liquids or more plastics falling inside or passing though the the dash cover its not water proof or water resistant please help...please help save my truck, please and keep me safe on the road.

Dashboard cracked in many places.

Cracked dash.

I have2002 dodge ram 1500 with a cracked dash which is bad the cracks started out small and now there so many that the broken piece have started to fall through into the floor and down through the defrost .what these dashes are made of you would thing that they would not crack but has some of these pieces could become airborne if you have the windows down causing accident if it were to hit you in the face. I think there needs to be a recall before someone gets hurtfrom flying plastic.

Crack dash, just above passenger side airbag..

When going slow this vehicle will at times shut off which causes you to loose the brakes and steering.the first time this occurred i was on a 360 degree turn exit ramp and was able to pop the clutch and get it going again.that time the dealership replaced the differental.it has happened again repeatedly causing me to almost run through a bar one time with my son in the truck.the next time i took it to the dealer they told me it was a problem with the computor and that dodge was workeing to develop a program to solve the problem. 8 months later they have just come out with the program and i was just in an accident due to the truck shutting off and my not being able to control it and having no brakes or steering.it is in the shop today hopefully being fixed yet again

2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab pu.cracked dashboard.sharp edges could be a serious issue.also, the sun visors fall down unexpectedly causing temporary limited visibility.

Blows heat only on passenger side vents.blows cool air on drivers side.

I had to replace both side mirrors because of the inside support broke off. They broke about a month apart. Left mirror first and then the right side.

Three of the four standard 17" painted steel wheels are chipping paint. The dealer has replaced two and a third is on order and will be replaced upon arrival.no harsh chemicals - simple green only - has been used to clean the steel wheels. *la

Front wheel hub failed on 2002 dodge ram truck resulting complete loss of hydraulic brake system, both front and rear brakes.wheel remained on truck and truck continued to roll without means of stopping.

Rims unable to balance. I have had a jerking of hopping feeling ride from new purchase. Gunn dodge in sa dealer in said it was the drive shaft and replaced still same feeling. Moved to austin maxwell dealer said it was tires. I had all four replaced and maxwekk said goodyear put four new bad tires on truck. B.s. I say it's the 17 inch rims. Had rims check and was told they seem too far out of spec because there are heavy balance weights on one side of rim and there are none heavier to counter balance the effect. Now why did dodge dealer say it was the drive shaft and tires. When i kept saying look at the wheels at the service station. Nothing but a run-a-round and when i call chrysler they say that is how the truck is meant to ride. Lies and big business cover up. Dodge must be giving someone in our government big bucks under the table to let these trucks enter our roads un safe. I hope the person in charge or nhtsa dose not lose a family member over un safe cars and trucks. I have lost my twin sister in a honda back in 1974 due to unsafe motor crushing the firewall and car crunched up. Please do your jobs and look at all issues with dodge quad cap trucks ride and handling complaints. Thank you.
