The contact owns a 2008 dodge ram 3500. While driving approximately 70 mph, the odometer seized. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that "it was not public knowledge that when a truck got to 621,000, this problem occurred"; the instrument cluster and/or the electronic control module would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 621,000.
Driving down my street. The engine shut off and windshield washer function turned on. I pulled over and tried cycling my key to restart the truck. Then with the key in off position smelled something burning. Opened the hood to see the tipm (totally integrated power module) smoking. The truck then started by itself and nearly ran me over (manual transmission truck was in 2nd gear). Truck moved about 10ft before shutting off again. Got truck in neutral before starter reengaged and could do nothing to stop starter from turning the engine over until both battery terminal were disconnected. The truck was towed back to my house and the tipm was found badly burned. About 1/4 of the main circuit card burnt up and disintegrated.
I was turning onto another streeti smelled electrical smoke. Truck started to run rough then stalled.electrical smoke filled the cab.everything that was electrical turned on and was either flashing blinking or running.i put truck in neutral and pulled the ignition key.the starter engaged on its own.i had to pull battery cables off to kill power to the truck by hand no tools.the tipm module burned internally.if my wife had been driving the truck would have burned.if the truck was in gear it would have taken off by itself.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included nhtsa campaign number: 14v795000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 140,000.
Power loss occurs at anytime. All the time. Truck slows down to idle speed. Really bad when doing 70 on the interstate. Must shut engine off, press accelerator slowly for 5 times then restart engine. Electronic throttle controller has been replaced 6 times now. They all failed again between 7 and 40 miles. Have not been able to get it repaired.
The contact owns a 2008 dodge ram 3500. While driving, the instrument panel and exterior lighting illuminated brightly and the vehicle stalled. Owner of 2008 dodge 3500 dually was driving down road when fuse box caught fire. Windshield wipers started continuously squirting and smoke came out from underneath hood. Going 75mph with horsetrailer in tow, vehicle without warning, shut off leaving owner without power, lights, steering or brakes while windshield wipers still squirting continuously and wiper blades not working. If this happened 1 hour later owner would be dead as next part of road has extreme downgrade with curves. Vehicle was towed to nearest dodge dealer where fuse box was replaced at owners expense. Took vehicle home 6 hours later new fuse box fuse blown and wires starting to melt again. Took vehicle into local dodge dealer and traded in for different truck. When dodge/chrysler engineer flew in to examine old fuse box the box was burnt to a crisp. Both local dodge dealer and dodge/chrysler engineer were told vehicle in question is unsafe and will kill someone. Owner was told truck will be sold at auction "as is" and sent out of the local area. Owner still has old fuse box for evidence.
Tail light and component failures due to 1157 bulbs overheating and melting the plastic socket and surrounding plastic housing.
Tipm has went out on truck. Head lamps, blinkers do not work properly. Will replace tipm
Arrived at lowes, left the truck running out front of the store while undloading riding mower to return. When we came back out vehicle had shut off and smoke coming from under the hood. Lifted the hood and noted fuse box smoking. Jumped back in truck and made sure engine turned off and key out of ingnition. While waiting for friends to towe the truck, wipers started horn and alarm started then car started up and took off across the parking lot. Luckily there were no vehicle or persons in front of the vehicle when this happened and was good thing we waited outside for friends instead of returning inside the store. My husband was able to jump in the truck, but without the key in the ignition he was unable to brake the truck or steer the truck, so because it was a manual hewas able to get it out of gear and apply emergency brake. Sadly after this occurred i have discovered even more horrific incidences where this has happened to people while driving leaving them without steering or brakes.dodge is aware of the problem and still no recall.i've even seen this described as a "common occurance".......really ! no crash or fatalities this time, but by the sound too many near misses and who knows how many have been caused by this problem.

On three different occasions, the tipm has failed on this truck.the first time the vehicle was under warranty.second one happened in 2013.the third time in dec of 2015.all three times the motor quit in heavy traffic and the dashboard went off. The tipm box then started smoking. I disconnected the battery cables.on the third occasion, i was delayed by heavy traffic in getting to the battery cables.the truck was on a steep grade.the horn started honking, wipers and windshield sprayeractivated, and then the vehicle tried to start itself and move forward.if i had been under the hood, i would have been run over.also, this truck was pulling a trailer on a mountain pass with no power steering, brakes, or trailer brakesdue to this problem and made this extremely dangerous.
Tipm (totally integrated power module) caught fire. Lost all control of the truck (steering, brakes, etc.) and the windshield washer fluid pump emptied the canister onto the windshield so i could not see the roadway.

Tipm has went out on truck. Head lamps, blinkers do not work properly. Will replace tipm
My 2008 dodge ram 3500 has death wobble in when you barely hit a bump. The only way to stop the shaking is to bring the truck to a complete stop. We have had the tie rod recall fixed. Before the recall the truck did not have this problem, it only occurred after the recall was fixed. The dodge mechanic stated that the ball joints needed replaced but we got a second opinion and they stated there was nothing wrong with the ball joints on our truck. This has been going on for some time now.

Etc (electronic throttle control) when this light comes on flashing it goes into limp mode (idle) this is a real safety concern especially in traffic when towing a trailer. I bought the truck new from city auto plaza, canon city, co. I brought the truck into city auto plaza june 4th 2014 when the etc light was flashing.they replaced the gas pedal the following day the etc light came on. June 11th 2014 they re-crimped the plug on the pedal sensor and the c130 connector under the hood. That lasted about a month and a half.on july 29th 2014 they hardwired around the c130 connector. That lasted about 8 months brought truck in on march 9th 2015, the etc light had gone off by the time i got to city auto plaza but it was the same code in storage p2121. The etc light came on again in may 12th 2015 brought it back and they re-crimped the pedal sensor put some lube and pulled the plugs off the pcm and blew they out and put some lube in the plugs.july 8th 2015 the etc light came back on flashing so i brought it down to city auto plaza again and they hardwired from the gas pedal all the way to the pcm.that lasted 2 days and the etc light came back on going into limp mode. Brought it in again on july 16th the light was off. They test drove it numerous time couldn't get the etc light to come on but it still had the same code in storage p2121.so the swapped out accelerator pedals got the truck back on the july 21st. On july 29th i brought the truck in to troubleshoot the ac (air conditioner) started the truck in the parking lot and the etc light was flashing.travis the tech that works on my truck has brought in tech support from chrysler.travis also google'd it and this is not just my truck.he saw trucks from 2004 to 2009 with these same problems.why can't chrysler figure this out?does someone have to get in and accident or die before they figure it out?

Vehicle has a death wobble, dealerships keep replacing steering damper, three times since 2009, it comes on unexpectedly, the problem is in the front end, just turned 40,000 miles, i will not allow anyone to drive this truck, it is an accident waiting to happen, dodge dealerships will not resolve the issue correctly. Thus why it has only 40k on it. I do not want to even drive it over 45 mph. It has the problem again, i would like to trade it in, but do not want to give someone this headache. I will not even drive with my children in this truck. Also have had egr valve issues. Please force dodge to do something before someone that does not know how to handle vehicles like this get behind the wheels and kills a family. Thank you.
The date given above is the date we have actual paperwork for proof.problem really started shortly after purchasing the truck brand new from dealer.i has always been take to the same dealer for on time maintenance.the check engine light comes on all the time.it is a very bad exhaust issue.i have done research on this and it shows that this problem can cause fires.no one will help.there many others with same issue.

The contact momentarily lost control of the vehicle as a result of the failure. The manufacturer wanted the contact to run an engine retarder on the vehicle. This would hold the vehicle back using the engine, it would compress and release from the engine.the manufacturer also stated that the failure was normal for the throttle of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage 30,000.

Vehicle is 2008 dodge ram 3500 4x4 pickuptruck with 6.7l diesel engine. I was driving down hill on slipperyroad with foot off throttle, when applied gentle throttle pressure, the engine jerked violently several times, and causing the rear wheels to brake traction and the vehicle to fishtail. This event is intermittent, most often happens when driving with light throttle, then lifting off throttle to slow down, and when press throttle to accelerate, experience several rapid shudders or jerks from engine before the engine pull smoothly again. Vehicle has had this condition since new. This condition has been reported to two dodge dealers, are unable to correct it, local dealer said he had same complaint from 6 or 7 other dodge 6.7 l diesel owners.
Driving on interstate in the middle of nowhere when truck began to surge. System information stated catalyst at 70% with in 5minutes catalyst at 100%.went to dodge dealer who wasnot a authorized service rep.they could not replace filter so they cleared the code and set the dpf to regenerate. This cost $80.00.went to local dealer next day and because code would not appear again the set the dpf to regenerate.this cost $80.00.on 1-12-2010 while pulling a 32 foot flat bed trailer in the middle of nowhere again, the system info went to catalyst 70%.the local dealer had informed us in order to get the dpf to go into regenerate mode need to get the engine temperature up to 215.put the truck in 4th gear and drove 85mph for 50 miles before the regenerate mode kicked in.rest of 500 mile trip went fine.on 1-27-2010 while driving in the middle of nowhere everything happened again.called dealer since was only 50 miles away.drove straight to dealer and they finally replaced the dpf filter. It is just march so will see what happens.new filter would have cost us $2000.00.ifnot covered under warrant.wish i could get back the $160.00.

On 7-26-08, my truck was being driven across country when the truck shut itself down, almost causing the driver to be in a wreck. After having the truck delivered to a dodge service center, they said the trucks faulty catalytic system was plugged and would need to be replaced. The entire system was replaced. He was told that because of the faulty catalytic system, the turbo, exhaust brake, and egr valve would suffer carbon damage and would need to be maintenance regularly in order to keep them functioning. The labor would take around 6 hours each time maintenance at $80/hr. On 12-6-08, while driving, the exhaust brake locked up shut, causing pressure to build up until the turbo blew off the exhaust. After driving the truck to aservice center and the exhaust fumes being forced into the cab of the truck, themechanic stated that, due to the carbon damage, the turbo needed to be replaced. After ordering the $2200 dodge service center turbo/exhaust, i recommend a recall or lifetime warranty on all exhaust system components for these faulty catalytic systems.
The contact owns a 2008 dodge ram 3500. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle shook violently and the exhaust system failure warning light illuminated. I own a 2008 3500 diesel megacab dually . I was driving along i-70 in colorado at about the speed of 75-80 mph and had to step on the gas pedal all the way down to get around a semi-truck and as soon as i did this the gas pedal got stuck. I know it wasn't stuck to the floor-mat because i visually saw that it wasn't. I had to slip my shoe off and pull the gas pedal up with my toes due to the shoe not being able to get behind the pedal. By the time i managed to pull the gas pedal back my truck had sped up to about 110-115mph.. This is the second time that this has happened to me. Previous to this incident about a week and a half earlier this happened to me in denver as i was be driving through the city. I thought it was the floor-mat then, so i ignored the fact that this had happened but this second time around i did look down to see if it was or not the floor-mat and it was not the floor mat.... I did not have the cruise control on at either time.. Im going to try to contact chrysler and the dealer to try and see what they believe it might be.. Odds are they will think i'm imagining things !!

Most owners of multiple model year dodge ram 2500/3500 4x4 pickups have or will encounter front cv driveshaft failures, u-joint failures or hanger bearing failures.this appears to be a very common problem that dodge is completely ignoring and not covering under warranty as the part failures typically occur shortly after the initial 36 month warranty is expired.this is a serious safety issue which can result in loss of steering control and even a crash.these verhicles are purchased and used as heavy duty hauling rigs and many have diesel engines allowing the carrying or pulling of large, heavy trailers.symptoms may start with a creaking in the front axle area and include steering wheel chop upon return to center, which is another safety issue.the repair is replacement of the parts that were installed at the factory which are of known poor quality.u-joints specifically should contain a zerk fitting which would allow regular lubrication at maintenance intervals, whereas the factory installed u-joints are sealed and not greasable, which forces them to wear significantly and quickly, thus allowing the parts to fail.every dodge dealer within 100-miles of my location is aware of the problem and states it is a common problem and not covered under the factory warranty.many of which agree that the factory installed original parts are of poor quality and the replacement parts available from the manufacturer are of the same quality, necessitating replacement of the parts with aftermarket parts of much higher quality.on my particular vehicle i have not yet replaced the parts due to dealer scheduling availability but will be in the near future.

The transmission lost all forward gears while climbing up lost trail pass on us 93 in montana. I was towed to the "nearest dealer" in hamilton, mt. That dealer, bell-mcall, did not have the wherewith all to fix the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to missoula, mt. To a regular dodge dealer. Chrysler road service refuses to pay for the 2nd tow. They stated their only obligation was to tow to the nearest dealer.

Driving 2008 dodge ram 3500 6.7l diesel on highway at 65 mph and came up to a slow vehicle.pressed accelerator hard to pass vehicle quickly and the pedalstuck.hit brakes hard twice, and pulled up on pedal with my foot and then my hand.the pedal itself came up, but it did not disengage the accelerator.speed was probably close to 100mph when i was about to put truck in neutral, but the mechanism finally released.had no mat or any other obstruction on the floor to cause the problem.spoke to the local dodge dealer but the vehicle is just over warranty.
Front brakes do not work when first applied. Brake dust is constantly coming off. Tires have been red since i have 600 miles on it. I have taken it to 3 dealers. I now have 13,000 miles on it and front brakes make a noise. Dealers told me it was a common problem but there is nothing they can do because brakes still work. I asked to have the tires replaced when it had 600 miles on it and they would not.. Still have a new truck with brake dust all over the front end and getting into the paint.
Driving down the road passenger side tie rod snaps chrysler tells me it's not part of the steering linkage recall but yet i'm expected to for other parts that aren't broke instead of just a new tie rod.. Lost all control of vehicle and we off road 40mph towing services were $280 when the linkage fell it messed up my passenger inside rim which i'm also held responsible.
The contact owns a 2008 dodge ram 3500. The contact stated that the suspension was unstable in the front of the vehicle due to the steering. The steering assembly was loose and the steering wheel veered left and right, which prevented the driver from safely driving over 40 mph. The contact was uncertain if a death wobble would occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 13v529000 (steering), but the remedy failed to provide a solution. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the failure continued. More than one independent mechanic provided diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was waiting to determine if the manufacturer could remedy the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Approximately 3 months (and 2637 miles of highway driving) after having safety recall n62 / nhtsa 13v-528 work accomplished by landers mclarty dealership in huntsville alabama, the drag link disconnected disconnected from the right tie rod at approximately 40 mph.this resulted in a complete loss of steering and caused my vehicle to cross opposing traffic lanes and enter a ditch before i could stop the vehicle.the recall repairs were not conducted per dealer service instructions.landers mclarty dodge service manager had provided me an e-mail indicating "i have talked to all 3 of the technicians that perform this recall, and they all stated that they use an impact gun to actually install that nut, due to the teflon that is on the inside of it to keep it from backing off after it is installed. It is very tough and is very time consuming to install with hand tools." the dealer service instruction state at step #16. Connect the drag link to the right tie rod end (figure 8). Tighten the new drag link retaining nut to 96 ft. Lbs. (130 nm). The associated figure 8 clearly indicates the use of a torque wrench and is labeled as such. Being an engineer and familiar with lock nuts and bolted joint design, i believe the use of an impact gun for installation could result in a broken/cracked nut, or loss of the teflon locking feature due to heating or mechanical abuse during installation.landers mclarty should re-accomplish recall work for all vehicles that used impact gun to accomplish the repair.

Death wobble! i hit a pot hole or rough bump in the road and the suspension shakes so violently that i could hardly hold on to the steering wheel. All the items on the console went on to the floor, cleared the dash and center console. This was the first of 5 times i have had this happen. 3 times when coming off a bridge deck. All times the truck is at approximately 65mph. The only way to stop the violent shaking is to brake and bringthe vehicle to a near stop. The problem with this is its always happened on the freeway where there are other vehicles all around. Very dangerous and scares the life out of me. I have replaced steering control link with tie rod ends. Stabilizer bar, added after market steering box stabilizer and done two alignments. All parts are like new there is only 55000 miles on the truck.there is definitely a design flaw with the suspension! i have owned 4 other trucks. 2 with solid axles in the front and never had this problem.

I received a safety recall notice n49/nhtsa 13v-529in january 2014.i called flower motor company in montrose co.i was informed by service department that parts were not available yet.called back on february 27, 2014 and was told that flower motors could order 1 part every 14 days.i was put on a waiting list of over 100 people.i called chrysler the same day and confirmed that they are limiting small dealerships to 1 part every 14 days and large dealerships to 1 part every 7 days.i believe this is a safety problem and chrysler is not dealing with it in a responsible manner.i feel that chrysler is more interested in not spending money than they are in the safety of their customers.i hope you can rectify this safety concern.
Thank you.

2008 dodge ram 3500.consumer writes in regards to left tie rod recall issues.the consumer stated the dealer only looked at the left tie rod, and stated the right side was not included in the recall.the next day, the consumer called customer service, where he was informed the dealer should have replaced both tie rods. The dealer did not agree, that both sides were supposed to be replaced. When the consumer called customer service again, he was informed, the right side was not covered.
Was driving home going around a left curve when the passenger side tie rod broke at the stud. Had to get vehicle towed to dodge dealer where i was informed it was my fault the tie rod broke on the truck due to my vehicle upkeep(3 yr old tie rods don't just break) i told them fine fix my tie rod and anything else they find. I pickup my truck from dodge house and breakdown again on my way home when the truck catapulted on the broken front steering assembly it caused the lower seal in my gearbox to go out and pour power steering fluid out where the pitman arm attaches to the gearbox. So opposed to letting the dodge dealership in palestine tx work on my vehicle again i fixed it my self.. Now at 80,000 miles when i hit a little patch of bumps or cross a bridge my truck starts to shake violently i swear this truck is going to be the death of me.
When greasing the front tie rod ends the right tie rod end does not allow grease to get into the fitting. Called the local dodge dealership, zimmerman motors in sunbury, pa, who said that i need to bring the vehicle in for an inspection of the problem and that i would have to pay for the inspection. They also told me that if that tie rod had to be replaced they do not just replace that particular part, it now is part of a $500 repair kit. This pricing does not include the installation of the components. So i then called dodge 1-866-726-4636 and created case 21303145. The service specialist confirmed that i would have to pay for the inspection and they might help me out with the pricing of the part. The truck has not gone in for the inspection. I now have several issues with dodge.1. There is a recall for the left tie rod on certain dodge ram trucks. Since my truck is not part of that recall it is my responsibility to have this repaired, but dodge knows that they have a problem with this tie rod assembly since they have a $500 repair kit. 2. My opinion is that eventually this part will fail if grease does not get into the fitting. 3. I should not have to pay for the inspection since dodge knows that they have issues with the steering components.

The failure is related to the steering linkage.a total loss of steering control was the result.the tie-rod end ball joint broke off right at the pit arm.the truck has no modifications at all and was never involved in an accident.the incident happen while backing out of the driveway.if the incident would have occurred 15 min later in traffic a serious accident could have been the result.looking at the point where the failure occurred the ball joint had held on to only a small gross section of the pin.no indication or warning of a failure was noticeable in the days before.the parts are available for inspection or testing.

My 2008 dodge ram 3500 has death wobble in when you barely hit a bump. The only way to stop the shaking is to bring the truck to a complete stop. We have had the tie rod recall fixed. The dodge mechanic stated that the ball joints needed replaced but we got a second opinion and they stated there was nothing wrong with the ball joints on our truck. We just bought a used pickup that has an open recall...chrysler n62...on the steering. After taking it to the dodge dealer for inspection, we were told the parts to repair this recall would take anywhere from 2-3 years to get from dodge. This is not acceptable, as we bought this vehicle to use, not sit and wait for parts. This is a safety recall, and i demand the repairs be completed in a timely manner, not 2-3 years. I would accept 2-3 weeks. Please let me know what my options are.thank you

I have a 2008 dodge ram 3500, @ 63,000km i started to experience violent shaking of the front end. Brought the vehicle to dodge and they said it was a sticky steering stabilizer. The service manager said that they changed the steering stabilizer and sent me on my way. A week later i had the same shake happen and got under and looked at the truck. Turns out they had just greased the steering stabilizer shaft... I went back and complained and they gave me the run around so i decided to add a few aftermarket parts. They helped for a while but the shake came back. Took the vehicle back to dodge and said all the suspension/steering components were within factory specs and basically told me i was imagining it. I told them to test drive the vehicle @ 110 km/h which is the posted speed limit where i always get the shake, and they flat out told me the tech's will not drive a vehicle over 100 km/h. I ended up having the entire front end replaced on the truck only to still have the problem and the dealers won't even entertain taking a look at it since i'm out of my warranty but have been having the problem for the last 60,000km's.

While traveling south on highway 31 in gallatin, tennessee at approximately 10 miles per hour, the right steering arm broke rendering my truck uncontrollable.this was after having received tworecall notices on the steering arm and taking it to the dealership twice and each time being told that those arms were not onthe recall.
I pulled into a parking space and backed up to get in straighter and the tie rod end snapped off. The left front tire folded and vehicle couldn't move. My wife, [xxx], and i recently had our 2008 dodge ram 3500 serviced at lithia, in anchorage, alaska, on monday, 20 january.we made an appointment and brought in the vehicle primarily for the recall on the steering.since we were coming in to get that taken care of, we also decided to get the agr valve cleaned and a oil change.we never did get the steering recall taken care of because the service person, [xxx],said we did not need it replaced and i said i wanted it done anyway and then eventually he admitted he did not have the parts. This is unsatisfactory.why would you not have the parts if that is why i made the appointment for in the first place?in the end, we were told it would cost $3000 and then $2300 and then $1500 and we actually ended up paying just under $1000 for the agr valve cleaning and oil change and never got the recall taken care of.and when i got home i opened my hood and noticed the cap was hanging off on my radiator overflow.[xxx] said he would order the recall parts and put our name on it and have it there for the future.at this point i don't want your agency to ever touch my vehicle again but i would like to get the steering recall taken care of.we are very unhappy now that we have to go back and spend a day or 2 dealing with this again...it does not engender confidence.thought you would like to know this dealer failed to remedy this defect and that is why i'm complaining...we did not get our steering recall taken care of even though that is what we scheduled an appointment forand we feel we were lied to just so we would bring in our vehicle and so they could come up with other reasons to work on the vehicle and get money out of us. We have not received a call as of today, 1 feb, that the recall steering parts have come in yet.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I received safety recall number n49 / nhtsa 13v-529 in january 2014. Both times i was told i would be put on their "waiting list" but that they only did one recall repair per week due to part supply restrictions by the manufacturer. I sent e-mail requesting to know when my repair would be completed - they failed to answer my e-mail.
While driving down the road whether it is on the highway running 65-75 or on a side road running 45-60 if you hit a bump, come off a bridge, or drive over anything that is not smooth road the vehicle will go into an uncontrollable wobble/shake. In order to regain control of the truck you have to slow down slowly and steadily and pray you don't start changing lanes because when she starts shaking it's driving itself! i know i'm not the only person that experiences this. The nhtsa needs to put some heat on dodge about this because it's going to get someone hurt!

My wife and i just bought a 2008 dodge 3500 mega cab 2 months ago from a dodge dealer after 2 weeks of owning the truck we were on the interstate going about 65-70 mph and hit a regular bump in the road the tires started shaking and the steering wheel and the truck became uncontrollable almost resulting in a crash. We finally got it to stop when we slowed to about 30mph on the interstate which is not fun at all. This has happened 4 or 5 times in the month in a half we have owned this truck. We took the truck back to dealer they said that the problem was the tires need balanced and rotated. We got the truck back and it still does the same thing. Called the dealer back told them of the problem its been a week and no phone call back to us to get the problem fixed. I'm very unhappy with this dealer and with dodge. I am very scared to drive this truck and to put my family in it. I own a business along with my family and if there is something wrong we fix it if its our mistake. Something is wrong with these trucks it should not take someone's life to figure that out. Dodge needs to buck up and face these people that have forked out so much money on their so called best trucks.we want an answer and a fix before its someone's life.i challenge dodge big wigs to put their family in a death wobble dodge and see how comfortable and confident they are then.your wife and kids will cry just like mine when your truck does the death wobble and almost goes under a semi doing 65 mph. Its [xxx] and you all are not taking my family away from me because of your mess up so *****fix it ***** if nothing gets done i will never own another dodge again.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My husband and i just bought a 2008 dodge 3500 mega cab 4x4 4 weeks ago when you reach speeds of 60-70 mph and hit a normal bump in the road the truck starts to shake uncontrollably until you come to an almost complete stop. The truck has 50,000 on it and in the past 4 weeks of owning it has done it 4 or 5 times and almost caused a very bad wreck something is wrong with these trucks they need fixed. The dealer is giving us the run around about fixing it.
Vehicle was purchased in november 2010, and the so call "death wobble" was not noticed until april 2011.i had taken the vehicle into the dealership where purchased, they found nothing wrong with the front end, yet rotated the tires, re-aligned the front end and replaced a control arm.the chevy dealership where the vehicle was purchased also contacted a dodge dealer who denied any problems with the front end of these vehicle.the vehicle is driven little, and several times this month (december 2011) while driving on a major highway, while approaching a bridge doing 65 to 70 mph., or where the pavement is rough the vehicle started this "death wobble", almost to the point there is no control.the driver can not gainfull control of vehicle until the speed is reduced.i did notice on the net that chrysler did issue a service letter to their dealers that a problem may exist, yet nothing was mentioned to the chevy dealership when they contacted chrysler.this vehicle was purchased to tow a ten-thousand pound rv, and yet, i have not experienced a wobble while pulling that unit,i'm sure it is just a matter of time.chrysler needs to step up, come up with a solution, recall and fix these vehicles.customers deserve better than what chrysler is doing, after all the customers pays thousands of dollars for their product.there is a serious safety issue here that needs to be addressed.
I was driving my 2008 dodge 3500 4x4 dually taking my newborn daughter to the doctor when i hit a small bump in the passing lane of the freeway and my steering wheel was almost shaken out of my hands i had no choice but to immediately slow down from 70 mph (speed limit) to almost 50 mph with traffic on all sides of me.i almost hit two cars and was almost hit by a semi truck in my attempts to get my vehicle under control. The same thing has happened to me multiple times if i go over 65 mph when i asked the dealer ship about they said that since my warranty was over at 36000 miles i would have to purchase the new and improved parts for it.i think it should be a recall for a safety issuebecause now i have to come up with 800 dollars so i can feel safe driving my family around.

While driving at speeds of 5 mph out of the driveway, the steering wheel began to shake violently and he could not control the vehicle. The driver's side tires turned inward and he was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repairs were made to the vehicle under a recall campaign (see nhtsa campaign id number:09v005000, steering linkages, tie rod assembly. The contact was not sure of the exact repairs made to the vehicle. On a separate occasion, while approaching a stop sign she lost steering control. The vehicle pulled toward the right and off the road barely missing a parked vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where they stated that the left tie rod assembly failed a second time.

I unlocked my 2008 dodge 3500 diesel 4x4 4dr drivers side door.i opened the door and stepped on the running board and went to sit on the seat simultaneously using the roof drivers side pillar (grab handle or support handle) and it slipped out of the roof pillar about 3 inches whereby i lost my balance falling backwards however , i recovered and hit the ground on my feet.if i fell (not recovering) and hit my back or head it could have been disasterous.the support, made of plastic with a center bolt pulled away from the center bolt splitting the plastic.the center bolt remained in its original position. I have since used a piece of metal brace running horizontal to the support with a hole in the middle to support the grab handle.i modified both the right and left front grab handles.it is extremely strong now but i tend to refrain from using it.please note:the inside temperature in the truck was very hot.a black truck in the sun and temperature about 85f outside.i did not see any vehicle grab handle warnings in the user's guide or on the vehicle.if i can be of further assistance please let me know.
There is a recall on the tie rod.the vehicle was taken to a chrysler dealership in kissimme fl in 2014 on two different occasions.we were told by the dealership both times that the tie rod was not bad and they would not change it out.on 2/21/15, i was driving approximately 10 mph when the tie rod fractured and i lost complete steering and was shot left of center.fortunately, there was no oncoming traffic and i was able to pull off the side of the road without crashing into anything or anyone.i was less than 1/4 mile from the main road, and i shutter to think what would have happened if i would have been on that 4 lane highway.this could have been prevented if the dealership would have done its job with the recall.

Thank you.
While driving at speeds on highway and interstate, when hitting a bump, hole, or uneven surface (usually exiting a brifge), the front end starts vibrating violently becoming difficult to control and does not stop until the vehicle is stopped. Each time this happens, the battery terminals come off. This has occurred four times since august of 2019, note, the vehicle was not driven in sept, oct, or nov.
Driving down road at 55mph road curved to the left and the front end started shaking so violently that the side pockets and the dash emptied onto the floor and didn't stop until i got down to approximately 20 mph.
2008 dodge 3500 dual rear wheels. Anytime i hit a bump in the road , my truck goes into a uncontrollable shake. The truck is unsafe to drive and i will be selling it.
Driving 40 mph over a bridge, the front end of the vehicle became completely uncontrollable. The front wheels were violently shaking and the steering wheel could not be controlled due to the abrupt and violent steering shaking and vibration. It felt like the front wheels were going to break off the truck. I had to jam on the brakes and come to a complete stop in traffic.
Pulling out from carport turned sharp to the left herd a loud pop. Got out the truck to see tie rod snapped at the ball joint.
Turning steering.right outer tierod joint failure. Joint ball came out of it's socket causing steering linkage to fall down on right side and jam against tire locking wheel also.replace right outer tierod and align front end.

When i pulled out of an intersection, reached a speed of 25mph, the truck jerked left uncontrollably. Finally stopped wen i hit a ditch, looked, tie rod had came apart.
Very little heat from floor vents.all heat seems to go to dash or windshield no matter what setting the switch is on.not much fun to drive 35 miles to town with no heat on feet when it's 15* or colder.
While traveling in heavy rain, the wipers started to operate in intermittent mode, even though the switch was set to continues operation. Minutes later, they seemed to quit altogether. Using window wash would get me the normal four swipe function, so i had to continue under this pattern. As i continued, the wiper function would occasionally return to full, or intermittent function without regard to switch position (except off).the next day was dry, and the wipers operated normally, and local dealer could not find a problem.in the next rain, the problem returned after about twenty minutes of use. I returned to the dealer, but rain had stopped, and so did the problem.it has now been about three years of dealing with this issue, and still i get nothing but frustrated shrugs.this problem can arise within minutes of rain, or thirty plus minutes, but does not happen if i run the wipers without rain. I did one experiment when the truck had been parked outdoors and it started to rain. Without moving, i started the wipers and let them run. They operated normally for more then an hour before the problem started, so i believe airflow is getting water some place that is causing the problem. After informing the dealer, they want to do a very expensive trial and error, now that the truck is out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2008 dodge ram 3500. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph, the windshield reservoir emitted washer fluid onto the windshield. The contact stated that the vehicle lost all electrical power and emitted a burning odor. In addition, the vehicle electrical system caught on fire. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the total intergraded power module failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 64,000.
Driving in rain and wipers went slow like losing voltage or power then just stopped. I had this happen once before but when they seemed sluggish i just had mechanic replace the motor. The motor is less than 2 years old. I read about wiper motor issues but my vin doesn't seem to be on there. Not sure but hoping it can be added. Will take back to mechanic and see about transverser which are the arms under the cowl that move the wipers per the motor. If still having issue has to be wiper recall due to moisture right? have replaced alternator already due to low voltage so it can't be that. Replaced batteries when i replace alternator. Everything else electrical working just fine.
The contact owns a 2008 dodge ram 3500. While driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and resumed driving to his residence. I recently bought a 2008 dodge at power chrysler, dodge, phoenix arizona before i bought the vehicle, the dealer had sent it out to have various alterations made. At the time i bought it i thought it had very expensive off-road wheels and tires, of the type i had never seen before.i later came to find out these tires and wheels were made for a semi-truck.further, this set up has not been tested properly and is new.i don't think anyone knows what putting giant, heavy semi wheels and tires on a regular truck will do to it.i had a lot of problems with the vehicle and brought it back to the dealer 4 different times to repair the same problem - having to do with vibrations in the undercarriage, wobbling and shaking and hopping.after they had it for the fourth time, and they had removed the semi truck tires and wheels and replaced them with regular tires and wheels, i was test driving it on a 4-lane divided road and the wheels started shaking so badly they caused the truck to shake violently throwing me around in the seat of the cab and then the truck lost the ability to be controlled andleaped into the other lane.if i had been on an undivided road and there had been on-coming vehicles i could have had a head-on collision.i have told them about the problems and i wrote them.the secretary confirmed he gave the letter to the manager, warren miller.my miller did not even give me the courtesy of a reply.dodge dealers are continuing to do these alterations to their vehicles in arizona - perhaps nationwide. I saw another new dodge truck in the alteration shop having the same thing done to it when i took mine to be fixed.it may be popular because it looks really nice?this type of alterationhas not been properly tested and it is not safe.i ran into a person who had the same alteration done on his truck and he said it shook and vibrated so badly he had to replace a set of hubs every month until he finally sold the vehicle.
