Fire in engine area,,,,,fuel pre-heater catches fire in the wiring because of bad seal on electrical connectors that allow rust to form in trucks in snow and salt country...luckily i was getting home and stepping out of the truck when i spotted the fire,,,,if not the truck would have burn to the ground during the night,,,or i could have been asleep at a truck stop as i often do when i am on the road to the races...according to fellow members of the turbo diesel register(we supplied all the info and damaged parts to your organization last year concerning the throttle cable problem)),,,this fuel heater fire is a very common occurrence in these 94 to 97 trucks with the cummins diesel engine..how does chrysler get away with all these safety issues. This could very easily cause death if not addressed..thanks for your time..*nlm

Truck burned aproximately 45 minutes after shutting down in my driveway. Chrysler is sending me recall notices that are anywhere from 1 1/2 yrs old to 6 weeks before the fire, and they are coming in the mail now, almost 4 months after the fire. Chrysler will not admit responsibility for the fire, even while sending me recalls this late after the fire.

Dealership service dept found that the left front framewas totally broken and the right front side was cracked and almost totally broken in same area. They say that it can possibly be welded but no guarantee would hold. We ask that they contact chrsyler to see if anything could be done about it, because we feel that this is not something that should happen. They said chrsyler refused to do anything about it, and said since it was 6 years old, and had that many miles on it that they wouldn't do anything. Well, we feel that they should be responsible for it because they are the manufacturer that built the truck and the frame is suppose to last, one would think longer than 6 years. We have never had this problem with any other vehicle we have owned or anyone we know has never. We also have a 1987 chevrolet truck and it has no problems with its frame.after looking at the problem closer, it appears to be where the frame was welded together is where it broke and cracked. If i had not taken it in to get it aligned, who knows what would have happened if it would have totaly broken on the other side when driving down the highway at 70 miles per hour. The service dept said the engine was about to fall out the bottom and i was very lucky. They couldn't explain what would have caused it to break other than saying it was from stress. It has never been in an accident , and has always been maintained as long as i have owned it.i feel that something should be done to help, because i had no plans to purchase a new vehicle and now i have no choice unfortunatly. This will put a very big financial hardship on myself and my family. Please help as soon as possible.

Spare tire is supported by a steel cable connected to a hand winch. Upon raising spare tire, it will not lift up directly to the stowed position, but will hang against tail pipe. Operator layed under vehicle to align the tire and clear tail pipe. Light switch failed. Mjs

While driving, all of the vehicle lights wentout. Headlights, parking lightss, and marker lights. Please describe.

The contact owns a 1996 dodge ram 3500. The contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealership for a throttle cable repair march 2010 but the dealer only replaced the throttle cable and no other required parts that would keep the cable from failing. As a result, the cable became loose twice after the repair while the contact was driving at approximately 35 mph. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership. The dealer replaced the failed throttle twice. The contact then took the vehicle to a local repair shop as the dealer was not able to correct the problem. The mechanic at the repair shop informed her that the failure was caused by the throttle rod ball, the ball stud, throttle cable stud, the throttle rod thread (left and right) and the throttle return spring. In addition to the throttle failure, contact stated that the headlight repair performed june 2009 did not correct the problem; the headlight plastic and switch melted even after the repair. She called the manufacturer and filed a complaint; the manufacturer explained that the throttle failure was not due to a manufacturers defect but instead to the dealers poor workmanship. The failure mileage was approximately 221,010. The current mileage was 221,061.

Transmission: found a large puddle of what i thought was transmission fluid under the truck.checked level and found it approximately 1 to 1 1/2 quarts low.we use the truck to tow a large fifth wheel trailer periodically.discovered nhtsa campaign id # 97v08400 which dealt with high load conditions and substandard connectors.called chrysler (800-853-1403) and was informed this recall was only for gas engine vehicles. Took the vehicle to a reputable local repair shop and was told they contacted dodge dealer and was told the replacement seals are no longer offered. While truck was getting an oil change the mechanic noticed an old fracture through an improper weld of the left front suspension lower a frame member.it was old.there was no bright metal.this probably was an improper weld during construction.fortunately this was found and welded.this could easily have led to a complete failure with vehicle loss of control. I have taken photos of the fractured weld.

I am reporting a defect on a original frame weld. The stabilizer bar that is connected to the frame that keeps your vehicle from shaking has separated. I have had 3 welders look at this vehicle to repair it and they all say they wont for they dont want to be held responsible for it, be cause if i would have been going at a higher rate of speed i probably wouldhave injured. I contacted chrysler and they stated to me that i should consider the mileage, well i have not had one problem with my engine and without a frame a engine is really no good. They also stated to me that mine was the first one they ever heard of, which i dont hardly beleive that. Thank you for you rtime in advance.

While driving could set upcruise control at speed, but it will suddenly accelerate to a point that consumer has to control vehicle.dealer had been contacted ,and problem could not be fixed.please provide more infomation.

Throttle control is sticking inwide open position and will not return to idle at any time.this is causingengine to run 500-600 rpm above normal, which is an excessive load on diesel engine.in order to releasethrottle, consumer has to turnvehicle off, and go underhood and releasethrottle control manually. Defect happens everytime throttle is pressed hard, and is always stiff.please provide any additional information/attachments.
