Air bag light is on and can't get it out . And the doors are all rotted on the bottom and is the only thing that rotted on my truck i take good care of my truck. And that is a big disappointment in this truck. And the front end that's hard to keep up with. I only have 118000 on it. And know the motor will go a long ways the cummins 25 valve.
Vehicle has been in 5-6 times forbrakes. When applyingbrakes they grab/ release/ catch and lock up. Dealer knows there is a leak but can't find it. They have scheduled appointments for 2 dates, and haven't showed up.when applied, brakes will suddenly release, when the brakes do grab, they lock causing vehicle to skid, constant loss of fluid in the master cylinder.replaced clockspring due to popping noise in steering wheel.
2001 dodge ram 2500.dash is falling apart.cracking in serveral places.am concerned this is going to cut wires or interfere with passenger airbag deployment.
Seems to be an ongoing problem with the clock spring in model years 1999 -2001.
I was driving home when i ran into some bumpy roads and i looked at my passenger side airbag control module in the dash and it was gone. The whole inner dash was broke loose and plastic parts were falling onto the floorboard. I've e-mailed dodge and haven't received anything back from them yet. The dealership says it could be from $1000 to $7000 to fix. It had a few cracks in it before but now it seams to be just falling to pieces. I believe this could cause my airbags to deploy at any minute and this is a safety issue. In an accident how could you tell if the airbag deployed before or after the incident? could the airbag cause an accident? dodge says it's out of warranty and i will have to fix it myself. I think with all the dash issues, dodge should at least bare some of the responsibility. They won't even tell me if my truck is safe to drive? so it sets in back yard.
Air bags did not deploy on impact (dead stop) when trucks front end struck a tree .
I went out to my truck the other day and noticed a large crack inthedashboard.i know that therewere countless people with the same problem as myself.this problem could potentailly cause a problem with the airbag system.in an accident, the airbag could be ripped by the failing dashboard as itdeployed.
Dt*:the contact stated the driver side tire blew out and the driver side fender was damaged.after the incident, the abs system, and emergency brake lights illuminated on the dash board.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer who determined the clock spring needed to be replaced. There is a nhtsa recall, #01v153000, regarding the airbags. The vin was not included in the recall according to the manufacturer.there is now a problem with the anti-lock brake system.while traveling 60-65mph, the brakes were applied and all four tires locked resulting in tire smoke.the vehicle was driven to the service dealer where it is now being inspected.there were no warning indicators present at the time of the incident.
My greatest fear is that because the dashboards of these vehicles are so fragile, if the airbag deploys during an accident the fragments would be deadly.my dash is already cracked and tiny shards blow through the vents when the blower is on.it's dangerous and the dashboard issue has been going on for a long time with these vehicles.something needs to be done.
While driving at 45mph in a frontal collison none of the air bags deployed on impact. Front end came off.
While driving at 35 mph, the vehicle was involved a frontal collisionbut none of the air bags deployed upon impact.the vehicle was totaled.the steering column had broke as well. *scc
While driving at 40 mph the vehicle was involved in a frontal collision.upon impact, the front air bags did not deploy.the driver's head hit the steering wheel.the driver received 20 stitches and had continuously been having bad headaches.*scc
My vehicle crashed into a cliff-side at 50 mph.the collision was directly head-on.neither the driver's nor the passenger side/ front airbags were deployed during this crash.
Head on collision at 40 mph with another vehicle, their speed isundetermined, the drivers frontal airbag did not deployboth vehicles totaled.1 major injury.
I own a 2001 dodge ram truck, and my dash is not only cracking, but large chunks of the dash have fallen into the electronic wiring beneath.
Vehicle was traveling on wet roads andhydroplaned into a telephone pole.metal bracket of steering wheel broke upon impact.air bags did not deploy. Consumer will contact dealer. Pleas addthe vin #, mileage and any additional information pertaining to this incident.
My vehicle crashed into a cliff-side at 50 mph.the collision was directly head-on.neither the driver's nor the passenger side/ front airbags were deployed during this crash.
I'm having problems with my electrical wiring in my pcm and my circuit breaker where my fuses go under my hood. It makes real loud noises, it cuts off, to were i have to let it cool off and then it starts back up, and then it will cut off while in park.i was told it was my pcm module and my truck needed to be rewired!
Dash board totally destroyed lights and a/c switch won;t work properly radio is attached only by 2 screws i am afraid that the lights will not operate at nite anymore and became unsafe to drive.contacted local dodge dealers, indicating they don"t have any recalls on this item and there is nothing they can do to help. This is a serious problem with defective material, but chrysler refused to knowledge the problem.
While driving my truck as i pulled into my driveway and stopped the vehicle the truck shut down. No power to the engine, lights etc. I researched the problem online and found mention of a wire in the steering column that after a few years of tilting the steering wheel up and down the wire will break. I removed the access cover to the steering column and found the red main power wire had broken off. I was lucky this happened as i stopped my vehicle. My concern is if i or someone else is traveling down the road and this wire breaks all power to the steering, brakes, etc. Is lost. I have temporarily repaired the wire in my truck but i will no longer tilt the steering wheel for fear of this wire breaking again. This is a very serious issue and i am amazed there has not been a recall.
While driving vehicle's steering wheel locked up. Dealer notified.tssteering wheel wouldn't turn.power steering pump replaced.tire pressure was too low.steering box failed and replaced.windshield cracked and replaced.vehicle won't shift at 40 mph.clunking noise from park to reverse.found normal operation.oil leak in front of motor.overflow bottle too full.vehicle wandered all over the road. Steering box adjusted. And low tire pressure was to blame.console on seat doesn't close properly.turbo whistles on acceleration.no problem found.transmission surges at 10 to 45 mph.no problem found. Power steering box leaked and replaced second time.leak was found at vacuum pump seal caused leak at power steering reservoir.steering drifts to right and wheel is off center.center drag link adjusted second time.after set for a few days, vehicle won't move when it is placed in drive.normal.no problem found.all accessories work with the keys out of ignition switch.could not duplicate.fluid leaking from truck.replaced steering box for third time.brakes pulsates when applied.low fluid found due to steering leak.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 p/u quad cab that caught on fire after i turned the truck off.there was a safety recall in 2002,but i was never notified. Chrysler sent out an inspector and they denied the claim.i was under the impression that safety recalls had to be listed on registration so as to be done before you can re-register.i received a letter stating that they denied the claim but not told the facts of the investigation or why it was denied. The recall stated that this could cause a fire.
Turned key to start position and engine would not crank over.turned key off and back on and found none of the dashboard warning lights came on (water in fuel, temp, brake, seat belt, etc.).there was no indication of electrical power to the dash or ignition switch.upon inspection i found the main power feed wire to the ignition switch (8 gauge stranded) broken at the connector below the steering wheel hub.further examination reveals that this wire flexes each time the steering wheel is tilted.i attached a new connector to the wire and plugged it back in, and everything worked as normal.after about a month i tilted the wheel up while the engine was running and the engine immediately quit and i had the same no-start, no-light condition as the first time.found the replacement connector had come loose from the plug and reconnected it which again cured the problem.this has happened twice more until i finally spliced in about 5 inches of new wire to make a loop and relieve the stress on the original wire.if this condition, the first time the wire broke, had happened while i was underway and wanted to adjust the steering wheel tilt, i would have lost engine power, steering assist, brake assist, and i'm not sure what else.this would have almost certainly have caused a serious and ugly accident.i don't see any other complaints about this issue, so maybe mine was just a fluke.but i doubt it.i think this has the potential to be a deadly problem.meanwhile, my dashboard is also in pieces.i just cover it up and try not to look at it.after all, it's a dodge...
The dashboard in this vehicle started to disintegrate at about 70,000 miles, even though it had a dash cover and window sun protection in at all times, since purchase of the vehicle.it was like a sinkhole opening up in dash.it is now causing wiring problems to the point i have it in the shop.called dodge to see if there is a recall as the mechanic said he has the same truck, with same issue, and every dodge 2001 truck he works on has the same issue.dodge would not comment.i have a dodge ram 2500 1992, and the dash looks like new.it is a defect that needs to be recalled.it can cause the headlights to short out while driving.
The dashboard started to disintegrate almost immediately after purchase.at 70,000 miles it had opened up a giant sinkhole and started causing electrical shortages, like headlights going out occasionally while driving.now every time the fan is run, small pieces fly around the cab.a piece got into my eye while driving, it was a bad situation.i had to be treated with antibiotics in eye for a cut.now i am seriously concerned for my safety in the event the airbags deploy.sharp shards of shrapnel could be forced into my body by the airbag deploying.it is a very unsafe situation for driver and passenger.i am having the whole dash replaced at my own cost because of this.dodge refuses to help.unfortunately my mechanic says he replaces these all the time because of this issue, but in two years new dash is disintegrating again.this is clearly an unsafe situation that needs to be dealt with, before fatalities occur.
The electrical system failed, which caused the vehicle to stall.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. He stated that the dashboard and theinstrument panel was cracking. He noticed approximately one year ago that there were smaller cracks which have increased over time.the dealer quoted an estimate repair cost of $570.00 to repair the vehicle. They also took photos of the damage.chrysler's customer service division was notified and stated that they are researching the failure and that they will contact him regarding it. The contact is concerned about the safety hazard since an injury could occur. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 170,000 and current mileage was 196,000.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the entire instrument panel was falling apart. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed the failure was not covered under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The current mileage was approximately 68,000.
Instrument panel top shows severe cracks.falling pieces have broken electrical connections in other cases.
One day in the summer of 2007, i noticed a small crack in the dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram 2500.later, many cracks appeared and portions of the dashboard have actually fallen through into the electrical components and gauges.this has caused a few instances of the lights and gauges to malfunction at times.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The vehicle failed an inspection due to the comprehensive component monitor, misfire monitor, fuel system, and the monitor not being recognized. The vehicle operated normally and there were no warning indicators. The technician diagnosed that the software needed to reflashed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 192,000.
Dashboardcracking and falling on electrical wire, shorting out things, keeps blowingthe abs fuse.
The dashboardon the2001 dodge ram with 49,000 miles had cracks all over it.piecesstarted to come off.it has not been confirmed yet, but i believedthis wasthe cause of the substance errorsdue to wiring under the dash getting hot.i am extremely concerned for safety and a potential short which could cause a fire.a dash should not crack after 3-4 years.it started with minor cracks around 2005 and kept getting worse.i have never in my life had any vechile do this but thiswasmy first dodge.
Dodge 2500 2001 model dash is falling out to the point it is a safety concern wires are being exposed and kids can get hands and fingers caught in holes in dash. Dealer says it is aware of problem but will do nothing about it. Don davis dealership.
The brake light switch on my 2001 dodge 2500 pickup shorted out causing an electrical fire under the dashboard.
I had a sudden and unexpected shaking of the front end of my truck.i nearly ran off the road into oncoming traffic.i have newer balanced tires, and have not altered any components except for updated shock.while the shaking occurred at approximately 50 mph, i had no control over the steering at all.
Pcm has been replace for the 2nd time since the original one.the dealer has sent out the pcm for reprogramming.it was returned and the pcm does not function properly.if they can not find a used one, the truck is totally worthless.dodge had stopped producing the pcm. Because of this dodge is forcing me to replace a perfectly good truck except for the pcm.because the truck was driven in california except for the last 4 years, there is no rust.there has been no recall.i don't feel i should have to buy a new/used truck because dodge does not want to make the pcm.they are producing vehicles knowing the vehicle can't be fixed after a certain amount time.
I was driving south on interstate 5 california the truck just died on the highway. I was stuck in 105 degree heat for 2 hours before the tow truck got there. I had no water and i am a cancer survivor. I have been extremely ill ever since. Very tired and i have no appetite. 4,200 hundred truck repair bill.i had to pay because i have no other transportation.
Dash and bezel are cracking. Pieces are falling into it. What problems will this cause.heater core is leaking spilling coolant onto cab carpet and pad. Was told this model truck has no air intake filter to stop leaves and other trash from entering the system then rotting in the heater core box creating mold which corrodes the core.

Thermostatclosed, causing engine to overheat, boiling the coolant out of the cooling system out of the overflow pipe, past the radiator cap, through the coolant recovery bottle.possible consequences:destruction of engine through overheating, possible fire.temperature gauge did not function due to loss of coolant.service dealer and daimler chrysler state that the thermostat is not a warranty item, even though nothing in the owner's manual, the extended warranty contract or any other documentation that i have states this.instead. Daimler chrysler cover the cummins diesel engine and all internal components.this is and was interpreted by this owner as meaning that the thermostat, being an internal engine part, should be covered, and all literature supplied me at the time of purchase imply this.failure of this part could result in a fire or engine destruction.*la

Diesel engine looses power while driving. This usually happens while accelerating. When you press on the accelerator, nothing happens. Takes a minute before it recovers and you can accelerate again. I tow a 5th wheel rv which makes more dangerous. Happened on the interstate once while trying to pass. This was fixed by the dealer. They replaced the injector pump. It's my understanding there was a recall on school busses with these engines for the same thing. Maybe it should be looked into further.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.the contact stated that the vehicle would loose power while driving on the highway.the dealer was notified, but was unable to diagnose the failure.the manufacturer was not contacted.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.updated 02/09/12*ljupdated 02/13/12
This vehicle leaks out a substancial amount of engine oil thru the breather tube when decending a grade steeper than 25 degrees. This causes the hot oil to hit the engine fan where it is flung all over the hot engine and exhaust manifold creating a extreme fire danger. This condition also coats the front brakerotors with oil causing a loss of vehicle braking capacity when decending steep hills. This condition can and will cause the engine to lose all of its oil resulting in engine failure and/or fire, and loss of control. This has occurred twice on this vehicle. Dodge said they are aware of it, but recommended i avoid decending steep grades. Thisis an unacceptable answer. They offer no other solution. The grades in question are not excessively steep, and are well within the operating parameters of this vehicle. The only reason i did not sustain a serious injury or fire is due to my extensive off road driving experience. Thisproblem needs to be addressed asap.

While driving at any speed oil will burn out quickly, and consumer will be forced to pull over and refill vehicle with oil. Dealer notified.
While stopping or slowing down, fumes from the crankcase fill the engine compartment and come into the cab. Consumer believes that the fumes are being caused by the open crankcase system and states that this is an environmental and personal health hazard. *yd
1.) after opening the hood the rubber strip running across the top edge of the firewall (where back of hood meets) may become dislodged and fall onto the turbocharger housing.2.) this occurs almost every time hood is opened.the last time i had to open the hood it was dark and i did not notice that it had become detached again when i closed the hood.3.) since the rubber had caught on fire i removed it and allowed it to burn itself out on my driveway.the last time it came in contact with the turbo i was able to notice it before it actually had caught on fire, this time i was not so lucky.
Part of the interior breaks off and blocks the exhaust which causes a loss of power - has occurred on the highway which is especially dangerous when passing another vehicle.
I owna 2001 dodge ram 2500 pickup, the dash started cracking last year. I was out of town for a few weeks came home and noticed a large area on my dash caved in , the plastic is real brittle i am afraid someone might cut themselves on it and it looks really bad.
The air conditioning system has been a major problem after the first year i purchased the vehicle.it did not cool.it was repaired with a new evaporator on 8/16/02.it was again repaired on 4/3/03 with another new evaporator.the next year it did not work and it was again repaired with a new evaporator on 6/2/04.on all these jobs the water separator was never replaced.again on 5/24/05 i took the truck in and they said the condenser needed to be replaced for $507.23.assistance at this time was denied.i finally had my local certfied mechanics at countryside truck servicein montville, oh look at it.they said the condenser was okay and there were no leaks in the system.they told me that the freon was low.they pumped the system down and filled it to required levels.the air conditioning is now working fine.at this time the tech told me that the water separator was never replaced and should have been each time a major component is replaced.
The wiring harness for the speaker are incorrect for the premium infinity stereo system. The resultant problem caused the stereo deck to short out completely. This also caused considerable amount of smoking.tacoma dodge ended up having to replace the stereo, all wiring harnesses for the stereo system and speakers. Y
I bought this truck new on 6/01/01.on 6/26/01 returned to dealership for a recall and at that time i informed the dealer of the missing "vehicle certification label".dealer stated "he would have to contact district manager to see about this item.i have contacted this dealer 3 more time over the past year about this item and each time have been told, "we are working on it".dealer seems unable to aquire this required label from dodge.
The dashboard in this vehicle has been cracked and broken since 2004. It continues to break and chip causing pieces of sharp plastic to fall inside the inner dash area.when driving at night and attempting to change from low beam, to high beam, the lights will go out and will not be operational. You have to continuously flip the high beam switch multiple times to get the lights to come back on. This did not start until the dash cracked and plastic pieces fell inside the dash. Both of these issues continue to this date.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the fog light and the tail lights failed to illuminate without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power distribution overheated and burned out. The dealer stated that the part was no longer available.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 221,000.
The headlights on my truck repeatedly go out.initially this only happened when i switched from high to low beam.waiting a couple seconds then switching back to high and then to low will allow me to use low beam.however, recently they have failed to come one at all and gone out without any changing from high to low.this was also an issue with my 1995 2500 ram, which dodge excluded from its recall (99v024)
The headlights are great on low beam but diffuse to the sides on high beams.very little light is focused on the center of the road.i have had the headlights aligned twice.they are much improved, but still unsatisfactory.new, higher powered halogen bulbs helped some, but the high beam simply "plays out".the lense system seems to not focus light where the driver can see with confidence at highway speeds.
This incident occurred while driving at night in my 2001 dodge ram diesel 2500.i had my bright lights on and as a vehicle approached i dimmed my lights.the lights went off instead of dimming.i instinctively switched my bright lights back on and they came on.when i went to dim them again the lights went completely out again.i had no problem adjusting to the situation.i was more concerned about the motorist coming the other direction seeing my bright lights, then my lights go out, then my brights again as he got close to me.that could have caused as accident by blinding the approachin driver.i was also concerned about what would happen to someone on a windy mountain road if they did not react the way i did.they might run off of the road if they panicked.the replacement switch is a mopar combination switch assembly # 4728424.i don't know if the original equipment part is the same number or not.one other note of interest.about two years ago i was driving a 1998 ford f 150 4x4 pickup truck and the same thing happened to it.the multifunction switch part number is motorcraft sw 5579.again, i don't know what the original equipment supplier would be.i am just wondering, even though these are two different companies distributing the part, if the components are the same manufacturer and if there is a defect in one of their parts.our local ford dealer says they have a problem with their switches.our local dodge dealer says no problem.they also say there is no recall on my dodge pickup and yet your site says there is one.very interesting.anyway, i have done my civic duty.now it is in your hands to see if there really in a problem.i would like to know what you decide.thanks.
Loss of power while entering high speed traffic, causing high speed traffic to take evasive actions to prevent collisions. Failure of transfer pump causing failure of injection pump on numberous occasions, this should be recalled at the time of the last repair their was no replacement for transfer pump available, so an after market electric pump with proper flow rate amd pressure was installed and has been in service for over 1 year. The injection pump still flags as bad and has loss of power until engine is at full running temperture and will eventually need to be replaced.
2001 dodge diesel lift pump failures. Mine has died twice driving on the freeway. 55,000 miles on my truck. The second one left me in the # 2 lane of the 405 freeway in so. Calif. Dead had to be pulled off. *nlm
My complaint concerns my vehicle and several thousand others that belong to members of the turbo diesel register. The reason i'm writing is in hopes that we can get a safety issue addressed, and corrected once and for all. There has been a repeated trend over several years now concerning the lift pump (fuel transfer pump) utilized in the 2500/3500 cummins diesel application. I am a member of the failed lift pump club and have experienced this lift pump problems on my 2001 2500 dodge ctd. This failure caused the truck to loose power and sometimes die. This can be life threatening if the truck owner is on the highway towing a loaded trailer. I would like this design problem corrected. I am not alone in this concern, there are thousands of 1998.5 - 2002, 24 valve cummins turbo diesel owners that are concerned and have complained to dodge about this problem with no resolution. This can be documented by going to the turbo diesel register on the web. Http://www.turbodieselregister.com/...15&pagenumber=2 *ph
Failure of fuel lift pump on 2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel engine. Pump failed causing total loss of power while merging with traffic .
The fuel lift pump failed while passing a vehicle, and was almost hit by another vehicle. Vehicle failed when passing other cars or heavy acceleration.
Dt: the contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel engine. The vehicle acted as if it was running out of fuel, but not all the time. If the temperature range was over 100 degrees then this was when the problem occurred. The problem was intermittent. The engine temperature was about 190-195 degrees that did not go up. The vehicle stalled because of this problem. Consumer had this problem forthree years, and currently the vehicle ha 93,000 mileson it. Also, had an extended warranty which ran out thejuly 19, 2005.the vehicle was taken to dealerfor service four to five times four of those times it was the same problem, and each time they thought they corrected the problem, but they have not been able to do so.on august 4, 2005consumer went to a dealership, not a dodge dealership, two vehicles there hadsame problemas consumer's vehicle. Dealership has not been able to correct problem. Mechanic changed the transmission sensor, andthe fuel pump, and that still had not solved the problem.
Lift pump failed on 2001 dodge ram 2500 cummins. This is a common problem that can cause the injection pump to fail. There were no warning lights and power was lower than expected but not dangerous. Problem was only discovered because other owners encouraged me to check for pump failure before symptoms occurred.
I was taking a road trip hauling my boat that was around 300 miles or so and got through the first 100 + fine. Driving along when the trucks dies on the interstate and has no power brakes or steering making it very difficult and dangerous to control and come to a stop. After finally and luckily coming to a stop and heart rate started to drop, i had to get on the road again, i managed to get the truck to restart after bleeding the fuel through the fuel filter housing and having to bump the key a few times. I turned around and went back home going very very slow and being o so careful. Come to find out the problem is the lift pump and is extremely to common. This should alert anyone that deals with safety and should prompt a investigation.
2001 dodge ram lift pump failure.known issue. Dealer tried to get out of warranty coverage.they finally fixed it but it took a lot of work. *la
2001 dodge ram 2500 injection and transfer pump was replaced.at the time of repair the technician did not install the retrofit transfer pump, instead he put in a cheaper pump.at the time the mileage was 47810.a little over a year later the led light for the fuel pressure illuminated.the transfer pump had failed again.the vehicle warranty and the part warranty both had expired therefore the manufacturer would not cover the cost of repairs.
With aprox. 89,000 miles on the truck i experienced loss of power during normal operations. Replacement of the fuel filter fixed the problem for a short periods of time. Thought the problem was bad fuel. As it turned out it was my transfer pump getting weak. This inturn, due to low juel pressure, caused my fuel injection pump to eventuly fail. I had to have this repaired in may of 2005. From what i have been told by the repair shop this is an inherit problem with the cummings. I have spoken with other cummings diesel owners and they have told me of the same problems. Dodge most be aware of this problem. This is a very expensive repair, $2100 between the two pumps and that is with me replacing the transfer pump myself. There should have been a low fuel pressure inticator install in these trucks at the factory. They are avalible in the aftermarket. I have also had front ball joint problems with this truck. These joints are maintance free jionts that fail, i believe due to the added weight of the cummings motor. This is also an expensive repair because you most replace the entire control arm assemble, not just te ball joint.
Lift pump failure:my fuel transfer pump died during acceleration.this caused the engine to shut down and also caused the power steering and brakes to shut down as a result.the vehicle became difficult to control almost causing an accident.*ph
Fuel transfer pump replaced several times.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge 2500.the contact stated that thefuel system andfuel injector failed.the vehicle would loose power while driving and eventually stall without warning. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 145,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalls without warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealership, where it was determined the lift pump failed and caused the injector pump to fail also.the components have been replaced each time, but continue to fail.
While the consumer was pulling out of a driveway the vehicle's clutch failed.the consumer stated that the sender unit for the fuel was not working and not covered by the warranty.the ball joints went out along with the clutch.at the 200 mile mark the rod which when pushed activates the clutch went out.*tc
While driving 40 mph and coming to a stop the vehicle stalled.the consumer managed to pull the vehicle over but it would not restart.it was later determined that the fuel transfer pump failed. *nlm
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.the dealer stated that the fuel transfer pump located and bolted on the side of the engine above the starter was leaking diesel fuel.the failure mileage was 61916.the dealer also advised the contact that they no longer make that type of pump. The contact attempted to reach the manufacturer to file a complaint and was unsuccessful.the contact was never notified that the parts were no longer available, andwasaware of the safety risk involved.the current mileage was 62015.consumer states that he has the old pump. The dealer is putting a plate over where the old pump was bolted on the block. Updated 4/9
Dt:the fuel pumpfailed , and the caller was told that part was on a nationwide back order. He was waiting for 2 weeks to get the fuel pump. He was told by the manufacturer to file a complaint on how long he had to wait for the part. Currently, he has his fuel pump. The caller said that the backorder was about 300 at a time, he was concerned that the partwas failing prematurely.
While driving at 55 mph engine started missing, then suddenly the engine stalled.consumer tried several times to get the engine running again. Consumer found that the problem was the fuel pump.the consumer went to the dealer to buy a new fuel pump, and was informed by the mechanic that there was a common problem with that vehicles fuel pump.
1.stereing wheel would not center up, vehicle drove straight.dealer said this is normal to compensate for torque, no warranty repair, took to a suspension shop for repair $ 1200.00 (see details below).2.transmission shuddered in torque converter lock up.delaer found no problems with transmission, but confirmed the problem.$ 2200.00 for new hd torque converter and hp valve body (see detail below)**accelerator stuck wide open while traveling down interstate, had to push hard on brake pedal to slow down to merge to shoulder, place vehicle in neutral and the engine revved to red line, shut down the motor.motor would not start only crank.dealer said the injector pump and controller awere bad, $ 3000.00 for reapair.replaced ball joint 6/2002, replaced transmission 10/2004, replaced fuel injector pump 12/04.sum total of repairs $ 6600.00.
While driving the consumer noticed that smoked was coming from the rear.the vehicle started to vibrated uncontrollably.the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer.the mechanic informed the driver that the fuel injector needed replacingdue to cleaning sensors.the consumer indicated that this problem started after pulling a trailer for 200 miles.the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the replaced the injector pump.
Fuel lift pump failure could cause a serious accident, loss of power will cause loss of brakes, power steering, and control. Thousands of failures have occurred, the failed part is on national back order due to the large number of system failures. Chrysler/dodge has not addressed this issue!!!
2001 dodge ram 2500 dashboardcracking . Tv investigation slot shown on internet.my vehicle has the same problem - purchased new dashboardpanel from dodge dealer $200.in the past yearhave front axle seals, water pump, power steering pump , fuelinjection pump andautomatic transmission failed.repaired over $ 6400 in expense - the dash problem broke the monkey's back.
Lift pump failure on 2001 dodge cummins diesel pickup.*nlm
My dodge ram 2500 diesel truck loss power and would not run well at all.i asked archer dodge on jan 20, 2004 to find and fix the problem. A fuel transfer pump, part # 5080885aa (replacement pump #) was installed for a total of $500.the failure of this pump in this vehicle is common and is documented in an article by chuck arnold "what happens to dodges".failure of the injector pump, a $2000 replacemnet job is common when the charge pump fails, i was lucky.dodge recalled defective pumps installed in all trucks built 7 days prior to the day my truck was built. I feel i got one of the older pumps for one thing and that dodge should pay for the work.the other thing is that there is no idiot light or guage telling you there is a problem with the charge pump.i am looking for a retrofit so i can monitor this pressure and prevent damage to my fuel injection pump in the future.this engine should run for 1,000,000 miles and i dont want the possibility of a $3000 workover every 60,000 to 120,000 miles ( the estimated length of time before failure for the charge pump.)failure of this system is total and if it happens at the wrong place could cause loss of life, fire, and serious personal and property damage. I would like to see dodge recall all units and retrofit them with a device that monitored the discharge pressure of the charge pump, notifying the driver that a failure of the fuel system is eminant.this could be done with an additional gauge or even a engine warning light.i have called dodge and opened a complaint #12000342, but i did not get the satisification of hearing that it was a serious problem to them.if it is common knowledge that this failure occurs, why not alert the customers of dodge that it is a probem.even though my truck was not recalled, it appears it should have been based on what i have learned from other owners and dodge.thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.
Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and would not restart.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where the fuel and injector pumps were replaced.
Repeated failures of dodge commins diesel fuel lift pumps and injection pumps may lead to engine stoppage and loss of steering and brakes. Dodge will not address these problems on 1998 to 2002 diesel engines.
Diesel fuel tank strap broke
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500 hybrid. The contact stated that the water and fuel warning light illumined on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included on any recalls. The failure mileage was 158,000 and the current mileage was 161,000.
Dodge 2500 4x4 diesel truck dash is cracked in about 5 places.it is going to fall through pretty soon.i have taken care of the vehicle extremely well with sun shades when ever i park it.still the dash has cracked and will become a safety hazard.dodge should replace this dash with a plastic or material that will work effectively.
Driving down rural roadthe hood popped up blocking my view.i could see the side of the road under the open hood and pulled overhood has not been replaced yet.
Driving down road and hood flew open on my 2001 dodge 2500. Hood and latches bent back obstructing view completely. Traffic was light on a usually busy road which prevented further problems.
My hood was not latched fully @the local dealer after service. I proceeded onto highway and it popped open....secondary latch didn't catch it properly.
The hood on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 has unlatched and flew back hitting the windshield while driving twice over the last few years damaging the hood and hinges.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.while driving at an unknown speed, the hood latch failed.as a result, the hood flew backwards and nearly shattered the windshield.the dealer stated that he may not have closed the latch properly; however, the contact disagrees.the vehicle was not included in a recall.the failure mileage was 79,000.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.the vehicle was parked on a hill with the engine on, 30 seconds after exiting the vehicle it rolled backwards and crashed into a light pole. The parking brake was not engaged. The road conditions were clear.the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle must not have been in the park position.the current and failure mileage was 60,000.
Transmission does not want to shift from first to second without leaving off of the gas. Now it doesn't go into park just stays in reverse. Called repair shop and they said it happens a lot to dodge trucks. $3,000 to replace or repair.
When you start themotor and put it in drive the tack winds out and the transmission slips real bad and when it does grab the motor stalls i have taken it to the dealer three times and the sad truth is they sold me a lemon is there any chance for a refund. This was a special order vehicle i had to wait three months for this. I paid $35000 for a lemon can you help me?
When accelerating the vehicle jerked.the consumer took the vehcile to the dealership who determinedthatthe transmisson failed.
When truck is pulling camping trailer when weather is hot the transmission will not up shift until motor is at very high rpm getting on interstate highways. Making this very dangerous to do. Some times takes a 1/4 mile to get to 55 mph ig on small hill if big longer time and distance. I have 2001 2500 with v10 automatic.

Early december rpms of motor were higher than normal in overdrive and it would disengage itself out of overdrive on the highway.12/13/02 bob valenti's service dept replaced selenoid, scanned transmission control module & reset valves.problem still existed. On 12/18/02 transmission lost every gear but 1stgear. Service dept now tells me shaft for transmission pump broke & i need a new transmission.dodge willing to pay 1/2 for parts but my bill is still $3,000.00. I don't believe i should pay for any of this. They should pay all of it.
The automatic transmission failed, the dealer did replace the transmission, however they could not guarantee it would not fail again.

Just after the power train warrenty was up the trans started to slip.i check fluid. It was okay.took it to the dealership and they rebuilt the trans at my cost of 2500.it still didn't shift right.the dealership told me it was fine.last year i had to have the trans rebuilt again at 2500.it ran fine for exactly 12 months.the truck is currently in the shop again to have the trans rebuilt for the third time by a licenced facility.i had it fixed one time by a friend also.the trans shop will warrenty the labor this time but, they want over 1600 for parts. This truck was $40,000 and 2,500 per trans per year and the front end redone 3 times also.the engine is too heavy and powerful for the truck and trans.a fault by engineers at chrysler should not be a constant head ache for myself and my wallet.i have replaced nearly every part on this truck x 3.the only good thing about this truck is the motor and it's because it's a cummins.

My 2001 dodge ram started stalling out so i called for an appointment to have the censor checked out.they said that wasn't it - it was the transmission itself and they would have to drop the pan, that was fine until they told me there was at least a 1/2 inch of shavings in the pan and that they had never seen that amount in a newer truck- especially with my milage being so low.this sets off an alarm that this is a factory defect.i contacted the manager and he was suppose to get back to me-which he hasn't as of yet...surprise. Oh yes, in order to fix this because the warranty had run out 2000 miles prior it would cost me $5,395.14.(now being disable this is sure a boost to me) and that isn't even checking out the 4 wheel drive which it has bound to effect also. The warrenty was for 36000 miles and i have 39000 on it now.it has cost me 200.00 to find this out and also the service manager said because i didn't use their services for oil changes and transmission checks he would probably not get as much help for me and in the contract it said as long as i used a license facility it would be covered and i used jiffy lube.i think this is wrong-they are just about saying for not using our facility you are going to be punished and not get the help you need.i am guessing on the date of purchase.

Complaint received via e-mail.as i started a 215 mile trip to boulder co noticed some type of fastener on the floor board. At the 200 mile mark the rod which when pushed activates the clutch went out! thankfully,i was able to ease the truck to the right lane, made an illegal right turn at the light, and killed the engine as i parked it at a gas station. But what if that had happened while i was going 65 mph on the highway? i managed to figure out the use of the fastener, and replace it on the rod. At this point i will be going to the dealership management as suggested by the booklet provided entitled customer arbitration process. I would like something more substantial than just a part replacement. I do not trust the fastener to provide the safety. I work as a school psychologist for boulder valley schools. When we get a significant snowfall i use the vehicle for travel. My concern is having an accident in the parking lot, where it isnot uncommon for students to mingle in the parking lot.
I owned a 2001 dodge ram 2500 5.9l diesel 6 speed manual transmission for a time until i had the problem i am referring to about the vehicle.the truck refused to shift into first gear anytime i went to take off, and so i took it to the dealer to diagnose the problem.i was told the pressure plate fingers were bent, and the total cost was going to be over $1000 to replace everything.i also personally talked to the mechanical who stated the problem with the pressure plate absolutely could not have been caused by myself and must have been manufacturer defect.dodge refused to warranty any of the work because it had 40000 miles on the truck and was over their 36000 mile warranty limit.they also said i didn't qualify for their power train warranty without any further explanation.i kept all the replaced parts and still have them to this day.i have sent several letters to dodge, chrysler, and diamler chrysler in detroit michigan and germany, including pictures, with only one response basically saying they didn't care.i believe this is absolute fraud and deceit on part of chrysler and is one of the many reasons the american automotive industry is in the shape it's in.i have kept extensive records regarding this matter and have copies of every letter i've sent to dodge about this incident if any of this will be of any help to you in any way.thank you for your help in this matter.ak

2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel manual transmission ext. Cab - clutch assemby - our truck is used for light towing and had only 19,451 miles on it when the clutch went out.we talked to the clutch experts and were told that many of this same type of truck had clutch problems, but all were used for heavy towing and had way over 50,000 miles on them.
At 41,857 miles, my 2001 dodge cummins diesel 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup truck began to lose power on the highway.i bought this truck new on may 24, 2000 and have had difficulty with the stiff, rigid gears and clutch ever since.i complained but to no avail.i was told that due to the torque, it was "normal".then, the clutch failed and i barely made it to town and to the dealers garage.this truck was bought n from the local dealer, ridgewood motors and has been meticulously maintained ever since.it should not have failed with such low mileage.since ridgewood mechanics replaced the clutch, it drives like a different truck, smooth and efficient.i called and emailed daimler-chrysler about this problem and they said it wasn't covered by warranty and it was my tough luck.i'm out $898.26 and now wonder what else will fail in a truck that dodge calls "ram tough"!i'm furious about this incident and daimler-chrysler's condescending attitude.i want to be reimbursed my costs to replace this clutch, problematic from day one.
Transfer case leaks at rear drive shaft output.has been repaired 7 times-still leaks.housing & shaft seal were just replaced still leaks.chrysler claims no known defects.dt

The brake line that runs on the frame rail from the front to the rear had a blow out directly behind the gas tank when pressing the break peddle to come to a complete stop in my driveway
I was driving today and while coming up to a stop sign i applied my brakes only to find out i had none. The rear brake line that runs on the drivers side corroded really bad behind the gas tank and blew. Luckily there were no other vehicles aroundor else an accident could have happened. After doing some research, i find this is a very common problem on these vehicles.
Brakes failed when applied.abs and brake warning lights came on with very little braking.after hard braking application the tires locked and slid about 5 inches in damp backtop and hit a car stopped at a light.had plenty of time to brake but no or very little braking action. Later inspection showed that one of the brake lines rusted through and lost pressure.this is the second time this has happened.these trucks are prone to brake line rusting.driver seemed to be fine and drove away after exchanging info.he later claimed injury.
The power steering pump failed while driving on a mountain road.i was unable to steer the truck, and also unable to stop the truck, as the power steering pump also supplies power to assist the brakes.
While moving forward from parked, the brake pedal went to the floor. The truck rolled into a fence. Upon inspection under the truck, brake fluid was covering the frame rail under the bed, behind the fuel tank. Upon researching the problem, it was discovered that multiple vehicles have experienced brake line corrosion in this same area.
The brake line that runs from the master cylinder to the rear brake on the drivers side has rotted out and busted. This is a common problem on these dodge ram trucks . I have cars from the 1960's and the brake lines have not rusted at all and this truck is 11 years old. This happens a lot on these trucks and im sure this is not the first complaint against them. Maybe a recall should be ordered. Thanks for your time.
I was driving and someone pulled out in front of me and stopped and i went to hit my brakes and they went completely out . It was the rear main brake line that runs behind the gas tank. The next time i was coming down a hill to a stop sign with some steel in the bed and a different brake line after the one behind the gas tank blew out and sent me through the stop sign.
Rear brake line rusted and blew out causing the vehicle to loose all stopping power. The line blew out on the driver's side rear near the gas tank. Line is very corroded and this is a faulty manufacturers defect
The abs sensor wire was damaged by contact with the right wheel.this caused the abs system to believe that the wheel was not turning and engaged the abs system making it impossible to engage the brakes.speed was approximately 10 mph.this resulted in having to quickly engage the 2001 ram 2500 into park.the truck crashed into the my garage door.if this happened in a traffic situation the results could have been very bad.if one of my children had been in the driveway this problem would have probably received more attention.this wire should not ever be able to come in contact with the wheel and the route is poorly planned.
Under solid braking at 20 mph the main hard line from the front to the rear brakes blew at the 45* bend next to the fuel tank.
Driver stated that brakes failed on vehicle while trying to stop at intersection resulting in crash with another vehicle.*la
I started my truck to head out to answer a fire call (i am a volunteer firefighter).the engine was cold, had been sitting for over 8 hours.at the first stop sign, i pressed the brake pedal, only to have it go all the way to the floor with no resistance and no stopping power.the abs and brake warning lights came onthe dashboard.i pumped the brakes twice, and the system re-pressurized and started functioning correctly.i took the truck back home, and parked it for the weekend.sunday pm i went to drive it over to the dealership, and when i started it up, the computer codes cleared and the truck functioned perfectly.according to the dealer, chrysler is aware of the problem, and it only occurs when the truck is cold and within the first 5 minutes after starting.the engineers have no idea why it is happening.obviously, since i am a volunteer firefighter, i have a tendency to start my truck and go, so this issue is very worrisome to me.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. While driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor upon engagement. The brakes were pumped repeatedly before the vehicle would stop. The contact stated the rear drivers side brake line was completely covered with rust causing brake fluid to leak. The vehicle was towed his residence. The contact planned to repair thebrake line. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. The vin was unavailable.
Pulling out of my driveway my steel brake line on the frame broke at the rear coupling due to rust. This truck was driven on nj roads and never put a boat in water.
Driving my dodge truck to work.the brake pedal went to the floor for no reason.pads and fluid was ok when checked several weeks prior.limped home on backup brake reservoir.almost no brakes.took it to a shop.they found that the brake line on the frame behind the tank (can't see it) was badly rusted and perforated at several spots on several lines.replaced both lines. Current inspection (2/23/2012) shows brake lines in the engine compartment badly rusted between the abs brake components.these will have to be replaced as well.
2001 dodge ram 2500 4x4, brake line directly behind gas tank above rear axle on the driver side rusts/corrodes which causes a major brake fluid leak and causes loss of brakes. This area is hidden from immediate sight by the spare tire and apparently buildup doesn't get washed away in the carwash or when it rains or from road spray etc. I have never seen brake lines rust so bad. They actually look like they swell as they rust and scale. The rest of the vehicles undercarrage is 90% black paint from the factory, but the brake lines are rusting.manufacturer should have used stainless steel brake line material or at least a coated type brakeline. Loss of brakes is a big safety issue. There should be no warranty period on something like this, they should be the last thing to go on the vehicle. There should be a paid in full recall before someone gets hurt or killed.
Ordered truck new. Has always been well maintained. Had the front left brakeline fail completely without warning. Never a drop of fluid leaked before it had an immediate and complete loss of braking. Very serious failure that normally does not happen in modern vehicles.
The abs goes off over minor bump such as the warning bumps approaching toll booths in illinois. This is a problem slowing from highway speeds to a complete stop. The brakes lose pressure like near complete brake fade and one must apply excessive pressure to stop the truck. This could lead to rear end collisions. I have repeatedly complained to barrington dodge and filed a complaint with chrysler customer service. I would expect concern about customer safety after the ford tire recalls and deaths. Thank you for your time.
On-going / intermittent problem with front wheelslockingup when applying brakes.vehicle remained in dealer's shop, and was unable to correctproblem.please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Same components have failed three times. Second 10/31/2001third 4/2002.caliper continues to fail and ruin rotor and discs.
2001 dodge ram 2500.removed left rear brake caliper due to a sqweak that could be heard at low speed. One brake pad had completely separated from the metal backing. When inspecting other 3 brakes, at least one pad in each caliper shows signs of beginning to separate. Pads have a minimum of 1/2" of material left. Vehical mileage is 41966.all pads were replaced.the old ones are available.
While driving and without warning rear brakes failed, causing extended stopping distance. Dealer notified.
2001 dodge ram 2500, diesel 4wdcatastrophic failure of brake system.failure caused by failure of driver side, outboard brake line.line failed due to design defect that results in the line chafing against itself until a hole appears and all brakepressure is lost.line chafes if during hard leftturn.visual inspection of right side line shows it may also be subject to this sort of failure.issue seems to be known to dodge company.no replacement parts are available in us from dodge due to national backorder.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that while trying to slow down at a stop sign, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard and the vehicle continued to coast. He stated that the front brakes were enough to stop the vehicle; however, the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rear brake line was completely corroded. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The manufacturer was not notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 114,000.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge 2500. The contact stated while driving at speeds of 25 mph, he noticed brake fluid leaking from under the vehicle from the drivers side. The dealer advised the steel hydraulic pipeline had fractured due to rust and corrosion. The dealer also confirmed they were aware of the issue. The contact also wanted to include in the complaint that the vehicle was manufactured in mexico. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000 and the approximate current mileage was 79,089. The vin was not available.
(1) front brakes grab on one side, vehicle swerves to one side and jerks to stop(2) brake hose into calipers "callapsed".break pads wear prematurely, rotors overheat.loss of braking on affected side.(3) brake hose, calipers, pads, and rotors replaced.insident occurred on left side after 40,000 miles of driving.replaced hose on left side; both calipers, pads, and rotors on bohth sides.at 80,000 miles, right side hose collapsed.requires hose on right side; caliper, pads, and rotor replacements on both sides. Hose assy on back order: one dealer has 18 on order, no projected date in sight.so many of this part on order and recurrence on one vehicle raises question.soon vehicle will be undrivable, and dangerous.incident date below is date of right side diagnosis.

Brake pedal goes too far down and it is positioned too close toaccelerator pedal, causing an interference.
2 different brake lines failed the same day.. Both rusted throughthe rest of the lines near the booster and the anti lock are all rusted also... Truck had no more than a few weeks in snowand never on the beach....i live in fla...
Booster pump for power steering and transmission don't want to shift when drive from stop to drive into second gear.
My new truck at 29000 mile began to wander sporadically. It feels as if the truck hits a patch of ice then regains its tractionbut no ice clear dry pavement it leaves me feeling as if something is going to break at the wrong time...when i have my loved ones in it...for everyone's safety please help...dodge says it drives like a dodge...its sure doesn't drive like it should, or like when it was new up to 29000miles. Its got ma problem and i know it...i feel it even if they don't.ts
I installed chrysler parts kit 52122362al, upgraded steering linkage drag link tie rod, and 68039930aa pitman arm on my 2001,5 dodge ram 2500 4x4 truck. It easily replaced existing parts needing only a different steering damper to replace the original parts. I have since been learned that the steering linkage drag link parts are recalled after they have been installed on 2003-2008 trucks. Recalls i am aware of are h46 and n62. My left tie rod end ball stud has not broken yet but the possibility is very serious. I think dodge ram 1500/2500/3500 series trucks from model years 2001 and 2002 should be included in the recalls.
Vehicle is unsafe to drive. The steering wheel does not return to center after turning a corner and it wanders all over the road at all speeds. It tries to follow any change in road surface. Dealer has changed out the following parts with no help. ( gear box, lower steering shaft, all 4 tie rods, alignments) i have nearly sideswipped 3 times while driving on the interstate. The truck has been at the dealers 8 times and a total of 11 days. The dealer does not know what to try next.
The swayed at speeds of 60 mph and higher.which caused the front tires to wear excessively. The dealership indicated the problem was caused by bad steering apparatus.
The steering inthis truck has been horrible since the drive home from the dealership . It is practically impossible to keep this truck in your lane, it wanders and goes where it [xxx] well pleases.i've had the truck in the shop for the steering problem.they replaced steering linkage and the ball joints.this did not help one bit.with only 28,000 miles on this truck (95% freeway miles) the tires show significant wear. A service manager at one of the local dealerships said this is the largest complaint on this vehicle and there is nothing they can do to remedy the problem.this is a serious safety hazard.*phinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Dodge ram 2500 series 2001, numerous problems with vehicle steering mechanisms. The consumer stated the vehicle would steer in the direction of oncoming traffic in certain situations when the brakes were applied.
Steering wanders all over the place. 2001 ram pickup 2500 with only 19,224 miles on it problem first surfaced around 15,000 miles.dealer serviced at 17,207 miles as a licensed inspection mechanic, this vehicle will fail the state inspection sticker test when it is due. The amount of play at the steering wheel is currently at 5+ inches and getting worse. Inspection procedures require the play to be measured while observing the tire movement. ( example : turn the steering wheel to the left until visable movement of the tire is seen, mark a reference point on the steering wheel, now turn the steering wheel to the right untill visable movement of the tire , now measure the distance the mark on the steering wheel has traveled. Anything over a 2 1/2 " travel is cause for failing the state vehicle inspection sticker. Dealer has already replaced the track bar but this did not solve the problem. Am awaiting another appointment. My wife refuses to drive this vehicle because of the steering issues. The vehicle always needs to be " chased " left and right to keep it tracking straight ahead.it is my opinion that it is a problem with the steering box. The stae of maine fish and wildlife division forced a buyback of these same trucks because of similar problems with the steering. If they are not safe for our local government then they are sure not safe for the average consumer. Please look into this as it is a safety issue that can not be ignored. Thank you.concerned citizen in maine.

At about 40,000 miles my truck started to wander much worse than it had in the past, it has wandered since new. I have had several close calls with other cars and obstacles because the steering seems to have a mind of it's own at times and will swerve and wander in different ways based on road condition, if i'm braking or accelerating. I took it into the dealer for diagnostics and they told me that my steering box and track bar needed to be replaced to the tune of $1400. This is on a $30k+ truck with 40k miles on it! i have contacted chrysler and complaned about this condition and they won't review it until i have it back at the dealer for another inspection then they will decide if they will offer any assistance or not. Based on research on the web this is a frequent problem with the dodge trucks.
2001.5 dodge 2500 quad 4x4 diesel. Steering has been bad for last few years. Took in and all up front is bad, hubs, joints, ball joints, tie rods and even the gear box output shaft. I was told that the dealer knows that the 2500 comes off the line with 1/4" give or take play in the ball joints as it sits new and are actually too small for application which causes all else to go bad over time. I am not hard on my dodge with driving style. Cost to fix with stock and after market parts only to prevent is 2600.00. Labor is 100.00 per hour how can anyone handle this kind of money up front. Truck sits afraid to drive more then local. Started seeing at 95000 and have just over 103000. Dealer will not fix recalls of 2001 year because its to old!
Truck is very hard to control at higher speeds and i pull a horse trailer.very afraid of what can happen if total steering control is lost while traveling with my horses. It wobbles at speeds around 45 and over and feels like it wants to jump off the road or into another lane on highway.i replaced the entire front end and problem still exists.seen many posts with identical issues as myself. I just want the problem to be resolved.it only has 144,000 miles on it.do we have to wait until a death for this issue to be resolved??
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle drifted from lane to lane increasing the risk of a crash.the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic to have the entire front suspension replaced.after the remedy repair, the vehicle continued to drift from lane to lane while driving at highway speeds.the contact took the vehicle back to the local mechanic for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was 67,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500 quad. The contact stated that there was excessive play in the steering wheel. The vehicle would steer uncontrollably when driving over uneven road surfaces. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that there were no recalls for the failure and offered no further assistance. The contact stated that the failure had become worse over time. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 101,000.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 with the cummins diesel.since the day i drove it off of the lot it has had steering problems.i have had it into the dealer seven times for the same problem and i still have a very dangerous vehicle.i also have numerous other problems with rattles and squeaks that have not been fixed.this truck is definitely a true lemon.the dealer has blamed the problem on tires, steering box, etc., but nothing has fixed the problem.the last statement from the dealer is that this steering problem is inherent to the dodge diesel engines and cannot be fixed.i almost had a head on collision about a month ago and have since parked my truck.i am now driving an older vehicle until i can get this resolved.i will not risk the lives of my family in this truck anymore.i paid $40,000 for a truck i cannot drive.
I just experienced a very severe auto accident in my 2001 dodge ram,the truck was totaled and the jaws of life had to be used to extract me from the vehicle.i had contacted my dealer prior to this (several months ago) complaining of steering problems (wandering), and the dealer informed me,they could not fix the problem because he was receiving pressure from dodge to stop replacing steering components on these trucks.he also informed me, he has a number of documented cases of this problem--16 or so.there is also information that the state of maine forced dodge to replace 20 or 30 of these vehicles due to steering problems.i would appreciate it if you would begin an investigation of this issue as it appears that there are a significant number of complaints about the steering of this make/model of vehicle (check your own database).there is also discussion on several internet boards about forming a class action law suit over this.i was also informed today that dodge is denying that any problem exists with the steering on these vehicles and they are formally denying that the problem i experienced had anything to do with the steering problem that i had reported.
While driving 40 mph the truck drifted from side to side making it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle.the consumer was told by the technician at the dealership that "they all handle that way". *nlm
From the day the truck was driven off the lot, steering action was noticeably "loose".excessive play in the steering is approximately 5" before the truck would start to turn in either direction.this creates wandering on the highway requiring consistant correction in steering.according to some other owners on internet message boards, the wandering problem is a known issue with possibly the gear box.it is severe enough to cause the truck to drift into the adjacent lane or shoulder.
2001 dodge ram 2500 reg cab long bed pickup. Vehicle has 26,000 original miles and after major front end repairs( upper and lower ball joints, stabilizer bar links, stabilizer shock and both wheel bearings) for steering problems, the problem still exists. The truck is almost uncontrollable and wanders into oncoming traffic if constant attention and over correction of steering is not adhered too. Driving is a task and is very dangerous.
Steering wheel has a lot of play in it and makes the steeringvery difficult while driving at any speed.8nm
Vehicle wanders from left to right when driving at any speeds. Dealer cannot determine cause, and claims vehicle is within specifications.consumer states it takes too much movement of the steering wheel to keept he vehicle on course.

The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that while reversing, the pitman arm fractured in the steering column. The failure caused the vehicle to loose hydraulic fluid to the power steering. The contact called three dealers and was told that they were unfamiliar with the failure. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 230,000. ..updated 09/04/12 ..updated 09/07/12 the consumer stated the point of failure was the sector shaft on the rod and a damaged steering box. The consumer stated the vehicle lost all steering capability. Updated 09/11/12updated 09/17/2012
When vehicle is at a standing positionsteering wheel is inoperable. Consumer contacted manufacturer 6 monthsprior to filing this complaint, and was told thatvehicle needed a larger power steering pump. Consumer had this repair done, and is still experienceing same problem. Dealer / manufacturer have not been contacted. Please provide furthur details.
My main reason for this complaint is it is known across the united states that dodge put a faulty front suspension on its pickups that lead to dangerous steering at highway speeds and death wobbles. My vehicle has the death wobble at highway speeds, understand this death wobble literally tries to pull the steering wheel from your hand and makes the vehicle very hard to manage. My death wobble was severe enough to bust a battery clamp, blow out both headlights, make my quad cab door not open caused my outside temperature sensor unit to malfunction, broke my steering box, broke the clip on my sunglasses holder and caused my track bar to fail again. Please understand due to the faulty sloppy drifting steering i had already replaced all tie rods, track bar, ball joints and steering dampener shock. You can go to any diesel forum and hear all the stories of the dodge steering slop and death wobble and i would like to know why the traffic safety board has not forced a recall and upgrades on this product. I have a lifetime warranty on my track bar and can prove it has to be replaced twice a year minimum. Dodge did upgrades on the later model years 04-07 because they knew of the design flaw. Why are they not responsible for this known road hazard.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds the steering would cause the vehicle to travel from one lane to another. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that the steering track bar and steering boxes failed. The vehicle was repaired. The failureoccurred again within two weeks of being repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My vehicle was in motion driving on a highway at the rate of 45mph-50mph my husband was driving, i was passenger, and my 2 year old son was in his car seat in the back. All the sudden we hit a small bump in the road, no bigger than your average pot holes and the entire truck broke out into an abrupt shake! it was throwing my husbands and my body around the shake was so intense the steering was controllable but extremely hard. It felt as though our tires were flying right off the vehicle. My husband braked and the violent shake seized and we immediately pulled over and parked the truck. We check and shook all tires they were secure. We looked under the truck everything seemed in place and secure. Once we got home i researched the issue and learned of the "death wobble" most dodge trucks have because of the "y" steering bar which most years have a recall to fix the issue however when i called my local dodge they informed me my year of truck doesn't have the recall. This "death wobble" has been known to cause rollovers and accidents. I reached out to chrystler to see if they would fix it and they informed me because there is no recall they wouldn't. We are talking peoples, and others on the road safety! i don't see why they wouldn't want to pay to fix a steering bar which is what maybe $1000 but have the possibility for lives to be lost?
While driving the steering bolt became loose.the steering wheel jumped around which made it difficult for the driver to steer the vehicle. Dealer notified.*nlm
Dodge ram 2500 series 2001, numerous problems with vehicle steering mechanisms.the consumer stated while taking a 2 mile drive, he notice he had to constantly overcorrect to the left and then the right.the dealer replaced several componets on the vehicle to try and resolve the steering problem, the replaced all the ball joints which were severely rusted and had no grease, the steering shaft was replaced, the trac bar was replaced due to severe movement.it was finally determined that a alternate valve in the steering box was not performing as it was designed to do, when the mechanic took the valve out it was burned from overheating.
Steering.i purchased a used 1998 dodge 2500 with the diesel engine.the steering was very loose, with almost 1/4 turn free play in the steering wheel.the dealer said the track bar was worn out, so i replaced it but did not see any improvement.the dealer then told me there was a problem with the steering box during that year and a different type was used in 1999 due to continuous complaints about the free play in the steering.because i felt driving a vehicle with this much free play was dangerous and i was told the proble was corrected, i traded for a new truck of the same type, buying a 2001.when new, there was not much free play.at about 20,000 miles, i had about 1/8 turn of free play in the steering wheel. This free play caused me to run out of the road on the right side after passing another vehicle then almost hit another vehicle when i came back into the road and went into the left lane.i have taken this vehicle to 2 different dodge dealers and been told there is no problem with the steering, that the free play is normal.

Vehicle's steering wheel is off center, steering does not return to center, steering drifts right and left at all speeds, constantly have to correct steering wheel while driving vehicle. Steering gear box seams to be to sensitive as you have to constantly work at keeping the vehicle on your side of the road. It has the same symptons on all road surfaces. I had this vehicle back to dodge country on 4 separate occasions to have this problem resolved and they tell me everything is with-in specs.i would appreciate your help in investigating this matter as this vehicle is hard to drive this way. Thanks for your help, jim.
The vehicle has excessive steering that tends to dart to the right and the left caused by steering gear box. Yh
Vehicle has a wandering problem. 1st trip to dealer for repairs they said they adjusted the steering gear box. That did not help. 2nd trip to the dealer they replaced the steering gear box. It not turns easier but still wanders and also has a growling soundfrom steering gear when turning. I will be visiting dealer again concerning this problem. I beleave this is not a small problem. Constant wandering of truck, constant correcting play in steering.i cannot turn steering wheel at a standstill, steering gear box and pump have been replaced under warranty.nothing fixed the problem. The tires have been checked and are not a concern.the dealer says that is the way they are and nothing else can be done. This is a problem and needs to be addressed.
Right after purchasing this truck the dealer replaced the steering gear due to excessive center position play. The replacement felt better, but had the same problem after 200 to 300 miles. Upon returning to the dealer again, i was told that there is nothing wrong after they test drove the truck. The steering gear has a complete lack of preload torque and over-center torque and does not meet the specifications in the service manual. The dealer did not check this, but i did after my second visit. I have low confidence in the dealership's service department to resolve this issue.
I have a 2001 dodge 2500 cummins diesel 4x4 that i take immaculate care of, and have the service records to prove it.i backed out of my parking space this week when all of a sudden i realize i have no steering. I looked under my truck at the steering linkage to see what was going on and the steering gear box had broken off the frame. The bolts that hold it on had both sheered off and cracked the mounting bracket on the gear box as well. My family and i are lucky to be alive.i contacted lithia motors and told them my situation and she insisted that i have it towed to them before any warranty would be considered.i towed it out there.i showed the service manager becky brinka one of the bolts that sheered off (the other is still stuck in the frame).when i showed her the bolt, she said she would need the bolt for her diagnosis.i told her that she could look at it but i was going to keep the bolt in my possession. She immediately became rude and unhelpful. The mechanicwent out to look at my truck and came back in with the diagnosis that the bolts had sheered off. The service manager then contacted the district manager about the situation.she called me back to inform me that it was my fault.i must not service the vehicle very well.at this time i pointed out that she has my service records on file for the last 4 years and to show me where i had missed anything. She then tells me that the district manager said that i would have heard a clunking noise for a long time before this happened.so, i'm towing out of their facility. I'll have someone else fix it.meanwhile dodge gets away with murder and isn't held responsible for their safety issues. How can someone like me fight dodge? i can't get anywhere at their customer service phone#, and they are not going to give me the phone# of the district manager.what do you have to do? take them to court? i don't have time for that and they know this. They figure i'll just go away.

I can feel the steering shaft clunking/chunking/moving within the steering column. This problem appeared within last 2 weeks. Additionally, the steering wheel is no longer centered but rotated about 2 inches left of center in order to maintain straight line of driving. I am convcerned about the safety of this vehicle, both to occupants and other motorists because the steering may fail. The power steering pump was replaced last year as it was leaking. I have seen on the internet that this vehicle has been involved in serious crashes due to steering abnormalities and daimlerchrysler has repurchased numbers of these units both from the state of main and individuals. I would hope that you would force dm to recall all 2001 2500 dodge rams to repair the steering defects or order them to buy them back.

The power steering pump was also the power assist for the brake system.the consumer had no steering and no brakes. *sc

2001 dodge 2500 dash cracks creating holes in dash or large cracks.
Dash on a 2001 dodge ram 2500 is falling apart and leaving wires exposed to the sun.
The dash is falling out and has cracks all over it.the dash has had a dash cover on it since it was driven of the dodge lot.the dash needs replacing by dodge as a safety recall.
In 2001 i bought a new dodge 2500 truck at 50,000 miles the dash started cracking and now at 80,000 miles is falling to pieces. Icalled dodge and since the warranty had expired got no help.
2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel with a cracking dash. The plastic used in the dash is of extremely poor quality. Dash has numerous cracks that run the entire span of the dash. Wires are exposed and who knows if the airbags will deploy in an accident. Dodge refuses to do anything about the problem.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel that has been a great truck, but the dash is cracked very badly. Is there any thing that can be done?
Cracking dash board in 2001 dodge truck. My dash is cracked in several places with large holes developing because of this problem.
I own a 2001 dodge 2500 truck.several years ago i noticed a crack in the dash.there are now at least 6 cracks.unfortunately these are not surface cracks.the dash is cracked all the way through and is reaching the point where i fear it will either collapse or send pieces flying around the cab creating what i think is a safety hazard.
My dashboard had a small crack that has turned in to a massive sinkhole. My fear is possible life threatening injury/ permanent disability to myself or a passenger as a result of passenger side airbag deployment that would cause the remaining pieces of plastic to become projectiles. The dealer has told me that no recall has been issued so they will not take any corrective action.
The dashboard and the instrument trim bezel have severe cracks in them. I did not know this was a widespread issue and dodge should replace the dashboards at no cost to the owners. This is clearly a manufacturing defect.
Dash board has cracked and now caving in showing all of the inside components. Hope the sun won't melt the wires.
Dashboardcracking and falling on electrical wire, shorting out things, keeps blowingthe abs fuse.
Cracked dashboard leading to defective wiring and steering column problems.
Dash cracking and falling into pieces, smaller pieces fall into the defrost ducts and become flying projectiles when fan is on high.1 minor injury near the right eye, laceration, did not require medical treatment.
Dashboard started cracking lengthwise and vertically as well as around the air vents next to the windshield.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. While the vehicle was parked she noticed that the dashboard was cracked severely. She stated that as she was cleaning the dashboard it became progressively worse and caused her to sustain a minor cut to her hand. The contact stated that the dashboard was very brittle. She called the manufacturer and was advised to file a formal complaint and someone would call her back. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 93,005.updated 01/04/11*ljupdated 01/10/11
I own a 2001 dodge ram 2500 where the dashboard has cracked and pieces have fallen into the dashboard. At this time the only electrical problem i have experiencedwas the cruise control did not always work , but didnot know if this was a result of the piecesfalling into the dashboard.
I have a 2001 dodge 2500. I get in it one day and the dash has a lot of crack in then a few months later the thing falls in.
The dashboardis cracking, very large cracks running from the windshield to the front of the dashboard.
2001 dodge 2500 with multiple cracks in dash with pieces falling out.i am concerned that the pieces falling out could cause an electrical fire, or damage wiring that could cause one of the required vehicle systems to fail and cause and accident.additionally, i am concerned that the broken pieces could hurt a passenger if an accident occurs due to the jagged sharp edges or pieces being thrown by airbag deployment.after reading forums, i am sure that there are thousands of dodge trucks with the same problem that i have described, and feel that the manufacturing defect requires a recall of the defective parts before anymore people are hurt or killed.
I am the second owner of a 2001 dodge ram 2500 and approximately 3 years ago the dashboard cracked into multiple pieces and now has large holes in it that are exposing the electrical wires.also pieces of the dashboard could become projectiles in the event of a crash.there are thousands of complaints about the same problem on multiple web sites; however, dodge will not correct the safety issue.this needs to be addressed as a recall by dodge.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. He noticed that the dashboard was cracked and displayed deep fractures. The damage in the dashboard caused the radio to malfunction. The contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection. The manufacturer will be notified. The contact feels that this failure is a severe safety issue since the dashboard could collapse and affect the brakes, lights, transmission and electronic fuel ignition. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 225,000.
Dashboard plastic, dashboard pad section breaks, falls apart in 1999 to 2006 model year dodge ram 1500 and dodge ram 2500 pickups and may cut wiring inside dash, possibly creating a hazard. It appears to be a common complaint online. Dodge appears to be unconcerned.
As part of a news report in florida on 2001 dodge ram dashboardsi am filing this complaint.i know of 3 people ,not including my self that have these trucks, and all of them are in various stages of failure, from minor cracks in my truck to a dashboardthat was completely falling apart in a friend'struck.
2001 dodge ram 2500 the dash began to fall apart in pieces about a year ago. The pieces are now falling down in behind the dash. My fear is that these pieces may cause an electrical short. (lights, brakes, air bag, god only knows)the dash problem is so widespread, that after contacting numerous aftermarket and salvage suppliers, i have learned that there are no dashes available for my truck.i contacted dodge and learned that my truck is "out of warranty".they do not believe the dash is a safety issue.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 which i take great care of . I cleaned, waxed, detail it once or twice a week . Five-six months ago while i was wiping off my dash i gashed one of my fingers really bad, after i got the bleeding to stop i went back to clean up the blood and find out what i had cut it one. I was vary upset to find a large crack in my dashboard . I thought at that time maybe it was the cleaner i was using so i changed brands. Now i have around 10 huge cracks that makes my dash look like a ugly jigsaw puzzle. Which my 2 yr. Old daughter thought looked neat until she got her finger pinched in one of the cracks. After that i started the process of trying to find a cheaper replacement on the web because chrysler is trying to become rich off there replacement dash board, i came across this site - http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/ram_1500/2001/accessories-interior/cracked_dashboard.shtml ) it is not right that chrysler now knows they installed defective parts that can cause bodily harm and expect their paying customer to pay for their lack of quality control issues.
We have a 2001 dodge 2500 the dash is falling apart and has become a safety issue for my family. It has been garage kept and only has 68000 miles on it, and even had the plastic cover over the sun visor from the factory. We use this truck in our towing business and some times we haul passenger and some are children who's fingers could be cut due to the sharp edge where the dash is cracked and even one place has fall out now to where a child can put it whole hand down in and there isa lot of electrical wire that could possible cause serious harm. Please help i have tried all i can to get something done but no help from dodge. I went ahead and bought a new dash for our truck but having it put in will be my next issue. I think this is a major problem and dodge needs to stand up and fix this problem. After this many complaints someone can be held liable.
The dashboard starting developing cracks a few years ago.now small pieces are beginning to break off and drop into the area behind the instrument panel and around electrical wiring.
Entire dashboard crumbling, cracking, falling apart, disintegrating on 2001 dodge ram 2500. I believe this to be a significant safety issue as vehicle wiring is exposed and entire support structure of dash especially around the passenger safety air bag is falling apart. I believe this issue has rendered the air bag useless. Plastic shards are razor sharp and dangerous.
Dash cracked so bad it is unsafe to drive.
Hard plastic dash board cracks into lots of hard sharp pieces that can become deadly projectiles in a crash.instrument cluster bezel also becomes brittle and can pose a severe laceration risk in a collision situation.also, as the dash degrades, large chunks can become dislodged during driving on rough roads or when hitting a bump.these chunks can slide and move about the cab and either cause a dangerous distraction resulting in a crash, or, can fly about and potentially cause injury to occupants due to the sharp edges.please prove that the nhtsa is not just another bloated government agency in the pocket of the auto manufacturers and do something about this issue that has plagued dodge truck owners for years.
I own 2001 dodge ram pickup truck that dashboard is cracked and huge holes in it.
The dashboard is cracking badly. We were told it wasn't covered under warranty. The cracks are very large and span the whole dashboard from driver's side to passenger side and up the middle. This is a 2001 dodge ram pickup.
I have a 2001dodge ram 2500 truck and my dash started cracking. And now is falling in. Dodge wont fix there problem. Pieces of the dash is falling inside of dash wires. Eventually might rub wires causing a short or fire very unsafe.
Large multiple cracks in dashboard and holes.
Dash board and gauge cover for dash started to severely crack, called dodge, i was told there were not complaints of dashes cracking.i was told by dodge that nothing would be covered under warranty and do not park my truck in the sun.a few years later the entire unit fell into the defrost /hvac area and now have an excessive hole in the dash.i know at least 35 dodge truck owners in calif that all have the same issue.
Several large cracks on dash area of 2001 dodge 3500 pickup.
Dodge ram 2001 - cracked dashboard
I am not the original owner but i have owned the vehicle about three years now and the dash just started cracking for no reason.poor material in dash compound?i owned a 1996 chevy pick up where there was a recall to replace the dash because of improper material mixture, why wont dodge replace the dashes in these dashes in these pickups for the same reason?
Dashboard cracked for no reason on 2001 dodge ram 2500.
As soon as vehicle ran out of bumper to bumper warranty the dash board started to crack and is falling out. It is a safety hazard if you get into a accident as pieces of dash will be going everywhere.
I have a 2001 dodge 2500 4x4 and the dash is falling apart rapidly. I had two small cracks a week ago and now i have a new one that extends from my windshield to my radio. Now i'm worried its going to sink in and cause electrical problem that could potentially lead to a fire.
2001 dodge ram dash is cracked, starting to sink and causing a safety hazard because there are loose pieces of dash that could become air born in the event of an accident.have also heard this condition is causing electrical problems with the potential of a fire.
Dashboard is falling apart.we purchased this truck for our 16 year old as his first vehicle.i am worried about the safety issues.
Around 2009 i started noticing cracks in dash. They continued to get bigger and begin breaking off in chunks. Now i wonder when dash will fall apart.
The dash on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 pick up cracked in 2005 and has progressively gotten worse.i have a 12"x12" hole in it with several other small cracks that are very jagged and fall out while driving.my glove box hinges (which are also plastic) have cracked and fallen off.the passenger air bag is only being held on by two bolts because the surrounding plastic dash that supports it has cracked all the way around it.
I'm the original owner of one 2001.5 dodge 2500, in 1997 the dash has started to develop cracks, today its in little pieces, i'm afraid to drive the vehicle as the dash might collapse entirely o the wiring causing an electrical fire.i turned to chrysler for help and was told they take no responsibility whatsoever.
Dashboard has cracked and huge chunks are falling off the dash in turn exposing the wiring and such to the sun.not sure when it started, i have contacted dodge via email off an don since the problem started.
Cracks formed in the dash and after a few months the dash began to fall apart.i duct taped it together out of fear that water would short out the electrical components visible through the loose pieces.
Dash pad cracking, about 5-6" long in front of windshield toward airbag.
Dashboardis cracking and caving in on the2001 dodge ram pickup.
Dashboard cracking, collapsing,and splintering.
Dashboard is cracking and sinking in multiple places.
I have owned this truck about 3 years.the vehicle has approx. 39,000 miles on it.i noticed small cracks in the dashboard.over the last 3 years, the cracks have gotten larger.i was traveling on interstate 81 and going across a bridge joint.the bridge joint dips down and the shock of the bridge joint caused the dashboard to completely shatter into pieces.these pieces are very sharp and brittle.these pieces flew up onto the seat.during an impact, these pieces could impale a person sitting in either the driver or passenger side.these pieces also fell down into the electrical system on the vehicle.it could impact the air bags or the computer on the vehicle.when i got home, i called dodge to see if there was any vehicle assistance program or recalls.they said there weren't any.i have all the pieces off the dash if someone would like to look at them.i did remove the dash from the vehicle in fear that someone would be hurt by these sharp pieces.i've read many stories about the dashboards on dodge ram trucks.i cannot believe that this is in the best interest of the consumer.from what i've read, the dashes on all dodge rams between 1998 and 2004 have been defective. I can't believe that there has been no recall on these dashes.if you have any questions, please e-mail me or call. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My dash board on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 has completely broke causing the plastic to enter in to the dash causing my lights to flicker both thee inner and outer dash has failed. Parts have also flew at me in the face area.
The spare tire below the pickup bed broke loose from it's cable and fell out on to the highway.this also happened with my 1998 dodge dakota.
Dash has started to crack near passenger airbag.not parked under sun.
About 2 months ago the dash on my 2001 dodge 2500 pick up split apart over the passenger air bag and the glove compartment, then today the dash split apart over the driver side gages.dodge said this is not a defect but i believe this is a flaw in the materia and the formation of the dash.please let me know is you have any other complaint on this item.thank you.
Dash cracked down the middle for no reason have done some resource and found that it can lead to electrical problems.
I understand that there may be problems with airbags in dodge 2500 trucks in which the dashboard has cracked. I am reporting that my dashboard is cracked in multiple places. This is not due to any accidents, etc. To the truck.
Cracked dash.
I went out to my truck the other day and noticed a large crack inthedashboard.i know that therewere countless people with the same problem as myself.this problem could potentailly cause a problem with the airbag system.in an accident, the airbag could be ripped by the failing dashboard as itdeployed.
2001dodge 2500 and similar models. Dash boards crack and break apart completely resulting in much of the dash being gone. Reports of airbag deployment from broken pieces inside dash. Recommend a recall of all model vehicles 1994-2002 dodge pickup trucks to fix the problem. I have had to remove the fuses on my vehicle to prevent airbag deployment due to the fact that my dash is completely disintegrated, and airbag light came on. I have also cut my hands on the sharp edges of the broken dash pieces.
We bought a new 2001 dodge 2500 in october 2000.approximately 5 years after we bought it the dash began falling apart.at the time it began cracking, i wrote dodge a letter explaining our problem and requesting they repair the dash "in good faith" even though it was out of warranty.they never even bothered to reply.every single person we know with this dodge truck has a dash that is falling apart.there are huge chunks now creating holes in the dash. Parts of the dash are falling down under the dash area into places i can't safely access. We have unsuccessfully attempted to glue the cracks approximately 20 times.my fear is that it's getting so bad it will soon interfere with wiring, air bags and safety of the vehicle as chunks of the dash are falling into areas of the truck where they are not intended to be.i don't think we should have to wait for an accident to happen to see this dash recalled.since dodge is not accepting responsibility for this obvious defect, i think the government should force them to recall the truck and repair the damage.
I have a multiple cracks in the dashboard of my 2001 dodge ram 2500.i am now starting to get cracking in my instrument panel bezzle.i am the original owner, and the truck has never been in a wreck.not a big dodge fan at the moment and neither are the people that take a ride in my truck.
Entire dash and dash bezel fell apart. No damage done to the dash, it just fell apart. Wires and duct work are now open to the sun and foreign materials.
The dashboard is falling apart into several sharp pieces.i had a 4"x5" piece fall into the dashboard this week.
My dashboards cracked very badly and has big holes in it.2001 dodge ram pickup 2500 cummins diesel i don't do what to do about it.
The dash on my 01 dodge ram started cracking at 37k miles and is now about to completely fall in. Dodge said it was not there problem.
Dash is cracking and holes are opening in it.intermittent problems with flashing instrument indicators and loss of headlights.
The dash on my 2001 ram is cracking up now pieces are starting to fall off i believe this is a safety issue. Broken parts can damage wiring and become projectiles in a collision.
The dash on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 is cracked. It has progressively gotten larger. I vehicle is kept in a garage so there is no sun damage. I can hear it vibrate sometimes. The dealer was informed about this problem two years ago and they said it was normal wear and tear. I don't believe i should be responsible for something that is not normal wear and tear.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 cummins diesel. The dash has cracked in it.the cracks are unsightly.one spot where the dash cracked apiece actually fell in to the dash cavity, this has to be a fire hazard.anyway, i have done some research, and it seems that a lot of people have had this problem.
2001 dodge ram 2500 dashboard cracked in so many places that it caved in and affected the high/lo beam switch. I turned the high beam switch on and the headlights went completely off. I immediately pulled over and somehow got the lo beams back on. This is a very dangerous situation that can put innocent lives in grave danger. Please do something to resolve this issue before anything bad happens.
Cracking in dash presents a cutting hazard.edges are sharp and pieces are falling out.
Dashboard cracking/failing , related elec. Proplems w/ headlight dimmer.
Dash cracked on my 2001 dodge ram 2500. Smaller cracks are branching off of the large one.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500, and my dash is falling in.my dash started cracking several months ago and has recently started falling to pieces which are being lost inside the dash.when i googled a replacement dash i found countless others who are having the exact same problem. Local 6 news out of florida did a story on this problem and even has a report of the falling debris cutting into the wiring causing the headlights to turn off while driving at night.i have not contacted dodge directly.i did go to the dealership and all they offered was to sell me a new dash at appx. $500.when i googled this problem, several of the people who had complained to dodge were given the same form letter telling them in short that this was not a common problem resulting in a recall and that there was nothing that they could do.i am only one of several people across the country who are looking for dodgeto correct a problem they have given us that is not only cosmetic.i find it hard to believe this is being overlooked and viewed as cosmetic.there is a safety issue of broken pieces of dash board falling in and cutting wires, exposed jagged edges of plastic, brittle plastic parts flying around in the cab of the truck during the event of an accident, and also pieces being propelled at the driver and all passengers in the event of an air bag deployment.we are looking for dodge to rectify this problem and admit that there is an issue with them purchasing sub-par materials.
I have a dodge 2001 2500 ram truck that has deteriorated before my eyes.it has large gaping holes over the whole thing and the dash continues to crumble.i purchased this vehicle in angleton, texas directly off the lot, but have received no help with this potential dangerous problem.i'm afraid that it will develop electricaland various problems due to this problem.i would appreciate any help you are able to provide.
Dash cracking and falling in.
Dashboard started cracking in april 07, now it is actually breaking apart. Wiring is now exposed to sunlight. There are large holes forming in the dash. Gets worse everyday. Now is breaking apart near passenger airbag area.numerous complaints on the web for this problem. Could lead to safety problems with wiring exposed. Truck only has 65k miles on it.
The dash is falling apart. I have concerns this may affect the airbag system wiring resulting in failure to function in the event of an accident.
I have a dodge ram 2500 2001 the dash board is randomly cracking even though it has been covered with dashmat since day 1, on further investigating i discovered i am not the only dodge owner with this problem in fact 'all' 2001 dodge ram owners have the 'exact' same problem which is eventually cracking dashboards turn into jigsaw puzzles.this in turn will leave exposed wires dodge needs to recall this fault instead of their response which is come down will do you a great deal on a new dodge!!
2001 dodge ram 2500 truck.complete dash failure, cracked, broken and caved in.plastic material is brittle and chunks break off at slightest touch.plastic edges are very sharp and could cause injury.total replacement is only fix.
My dodge 2001 ram, dashboard cracking.there are 2 other guys here at work that have the same issue, both rams between 2001/2008.story on the news today of problems everywhere. Been cracking over last 4-5 years.
Dashboard has cracked in four places. Found last summer.
Crack in dash as reported by others.2001 dodge ram
2001 dodge ram 2500 - dash failing:dash above passenger airbag deteriorating causing potential failure of airbag to deploy during crash, or increasing chance of personal injury.research into this condition indicates pervasive problem among dodge ram trucks of similar year model.
My dashboard in my 2001 2500 dodge ram pickup truck began to crack.this crack continued to grow until finally large chunks just collapsed intothe inside of the dash.i keep my truck garaged most of the time so this really shocked me.i worry aboutpieces falling inside that may cause other problems.
Add my well maintained, garaged since new 2001 dodge ram 2500 to the list of trucks with disintegrating dashboard. Always kept protectant applied but to no avail. Obviously a manufacturer defect.
I own a 2001 dodge ram 2500 that i bought new.it has 115,753 miles to this date.the truck is kept under a shed 90% of the time and still looks great on the outside.i recently noticed a crack in the dash bezel and now have large cracks all over the top of the dash.i have read and seen many dodge trucks with this same problem.the cracks turn into large holes with sharp edges.as many complaints as i have seen just on the internet, this has got to be a manufacturing defect.i have only been searching on the computer for less than an hour and have found hundreds of complaints.i know that this is a 7 year old truck, but it has been taken care of.i have had many small problems with my truck since it was new, but nothing that i thought was a widespread problem.i usually just have fixed what is broke, but from what i have read this problem will just come back again.i should not be responsible for repairing something that broke on its on over and over again.if i knew that a new dash would fix the problem, i would not any problem going out and buying one.but many people have done this exact thing and are still in the same situation.dodge needs to be held responsible for their mistakes and fix them.if they came out with a new dash and told me that they would stand behind it, i would go out and buy it.but that is not the case.thank you for your time.
Dash board on my 2001 dodge ram has cracked.
While sitting in the vehicle a fire developed under the hood.consumer stated that therubber moulding that seals the back of the hood at the fire wall had no way to secure it and it slipped off, hanging down on top of the turbo charger and cught fire.
Dash stared cracking an is totally crack now, dodge wants nothing to do with fixing the prob. The edges of the plastic is very sharp an could cut an hurt someone seriously.
My 2001 dodge ram 2500 quad cab truck has developed substantial damage to the dashboard. There are several cracks reaching from the windshield to the front of the dash. There are also pieces of the dash that have broken loose from the dashboard itself. These range in size from 1-6 inch pieces. I have contacted daimler chrysler as to the problem and have been told "they are sorry, but there is nothing they can do." the truck has been out of the manufacturers warranty for 5 years now and the dashboard looks like it has been taken to with a hammer.
Dashboard is falling apart.
2001 dodge ram 2500. Dash is cracking in several areas. Several of my friends trucks are doing the same thing. It is beginning to become a safety issue. Dodge will not back this problem with a recall.
I bought my 2001 ram new from dealer . I put a dash mat on first week i owned . A few years ago i noticed a dip in the mat . I took it off and noticed a section of mat missing. I called the local dealer and received no help . I am now missing most of my dash top . There are numerous sharp pieces which may cause damage in the dash area . I found a long time mopar mechanic and he instructed me to call the chrysler care line . They told me the mechanic had no right telling me he has received numerous complaints as they had none on file. Three days later i received a letter thanking me for calling them and a license plate frame congratulation me on 200000 miles . This is their way of saying sorry . While checking on other chrysler product issues , i found numerous complaints on this . This is a large safety issue as could cause fire or flying pieces .
The dash on my ram 2500 is cracked and falling apart.the passenger side has a six inch hole in it and the plastic is very brittle.if the airbag was to deploy, it would send shrapnel of plastic into my passengers face causing great harm.dodge says they don't have to fix it unless a recall is directed.they don't seem to care that they are putting people in danger by having a defective dash on the road.
I have a 2001 dodge ram truck and the dash is falling apart and cracking all over the dash - i have been told this is a safety issue dealing with wiring, etc and dodge won't fix the problem. I believe this is a definite defect in the material that produced this dash and i'm finding other owners having the same problem.i believe this a dodge problem and not mine to repair this problem.how many others have this same problem - sounds like it is hugh.
Dodge ram 2500 quad cab- dashboard cracking from defroster vent back; occurring in many places. I have read of this happening to many of these trucks.dealer will not address issue. Truck has less than 40,000 miles.
The vehicle has been in my possession and well maintained since 2003.the dash has started to crack and is now falling apart in large pieces.the dealer refused to do anything about this because he stated it was cosmetic.dodge will not do anything because the dealer will not acknowledge the problem.this is a safety issue.the pieces of the dash could cause severe lacerations in a collision.this seems to be a flaw in the plastic because there are more people having the same problem.the plastics company should be held accountable for this flaw and a recall should be done.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 and my dashboard has shattered.i now have a large hole in my dash.i called dodge and they said they would do nothing. Several of my friends have the same problem and one of them has electrical problems from this, her headlights don't work sometimes.
Cracked dashboard, deteriorating plastic, cracking and falling apart.
Dashboard on truck is cracking. The cracks form extremely sharp edges and dagger shapes which would cut vehicle occupants in the event of an accident.
Dashboard has numerous large cracks. Truck was well taken care of and only had 35000 miles on it when cracking started. I am worried that the dashboardmy collapse while driving. Vehicle is a 2001.5 dodge ram pick up.
01 dodge ram 2500 dash collapse.
2001 dodge ram 2500 cummins diesel dash board cracking and breaking apart. I spent a lot of money on this vehicle for it to start falling apart on its own. It seems to be a widespread problem across the dodge ram cummins arena i have seen it in 17 different dodge rams with the cummins in fayetteville north carolina alone. Looking around on the internet for answers to my problem only indicates that this problem is very common in this vehicle equipped with the cummins engine. The only recourse is to buy a stock replacement for about 1,000.00 dollars or buy a cap to cover the old one.
- since last year onmy pick up dodge ram 2001 the dashboard cracked.-until now any correction has done, and any replacement.
Dash cracking. Presently no issues other than cracked dash, however, speed at which dash is deteriorating could lead to electrical failures, as has happened to several other owners of this make vehicle.
Dashboard cracked and fell off firewall.big holes where the dashboard no longer existed.
Our 2001 dodge ram 2500 pickup dashboard has cracked and is caving in (in all different places) - the dodge dealer said it's not a recall so there is nothing they can do about it.
Dashboard has cracked causing a safety hazard with the driver and passenger airbag. Dashboard has so many cracks in it that it is beyond repair. The dash continues to crack more as time goes by and will eventually cave in from loss of structural integrity around it.
I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel my dash has stared cracking and becoming loose i am afraid it will fall off my truck is in good condition other than that has there been any recalls.

My dash is cracked all over and when iwent to take off just dash besal it cracked and if you just pick it up it will break in your hand. These are sharp pointing ends. I would hate to see what would happen to some one if and when the air bag deplore. I never had to take dash apart before so this is do to bad material that did not hold up to the heat or cold.i have a 2001 dodge ram 2500.
Dash & inner structure started cracking in my 2001 dodge ram. I think this is a safety hazard to me and my family. If in a accident where airbag was deployed shrapnelcould explode in to the air and cause injuries to occupants. Also the wiring under the cover can be exposed to radiant heat from the sun andcause a fire. Thanks
Dashboard is cracking and falling out of the truck.
Dashboard has completely disintegrated into small and large pieces that fall onto the electrical wiring harness to completely destroy the dashboard. This is an extremely dangerous safety hazard.this has all happened within six months of my purchase of the vehicle a 2001 dodge ram 2500 turbo diesel. There are hundreds if not thousands of other people who own the same vehicle who have the same problem with their dashboard cracking then falling apart.clearly a manufacturer defect.
Top of dash is cracked all the way through from front to back in several places. It has always been parkedeither in the shade of under a carport.
The dashboard of the vehicle has completely cracked and busted leaving a giant hole in it. Leaving all the wires and heater vents exposed. This happened just with normal driving of vehicle no crashes or anything ever hit it to cause the problem.

I own an '01 dodge ram 2500 quad cab.bought it used in 2005.in summer of 2009 the dash started cracking from windshield down the glove box, and from windshield to front bezel in front of driver.now cracks all over.no pieces fallen out yet, but sure will be happening soon.asked local dealer about dash, said nothing to do except replace it.told me probably would be problem finding replacement dash as there were so many cracked.told me to buy dash cover.nice.don't think so!!!!

Cracking dashboard, will not stop. Just keeps adding more and more.
My 2001 dodge ram 2500 has the dash board severely cracking and right in front of the steering wheel at the top there is a big hole where the dash has completely broken out. This concerns me verymuch and when i asked the dealership about it they said that all of the 2001 models were having issues with the cracking, but offered no resolution to the problem. These trucks are very expensive and even after a few years have passed they hold their value very well, but not with cracked and falling dashes. I am concerned that there will be other problems since the inside of the dash is exposed from the hole.i am a faithful dodge product consumer, but if they won't correct this problem how are we to trust buying anything else. I have had several dodge trucks prior to 2001 and the dashes in those trucks held up perfectly, so there must be a problem with the material used for these particular models. I don't feel like i should have to pay for something to fix or replace this. Please help!!!
The dashboard has broken into several pieces which may create a hazard in an accident.it is still staying together but i'm concerned over time that it will not.
2001 dodge ram 2500 dashboard . Dash is cracked so bad i'm worried that in the event of an accident loose pieces could result in injury to occupants in vehicle. Pieces could also fall into moving parts (brake pedal , steering column )causing unsafe conditions . Mileage when cracks started to appear 55,000.

I own a 2001 dodge ram and the top of the dash has cracked badly and has sunken into the wiring.
I own a 2001 dodge ram 2500 cummins truck and within three years my dash started falling apart. I approached the dealer with this issue but unfortunately my warranty was up 1000 miles ago. I didn't want to pay the 600 bucks for the replacement dash installed so i purchased one from the dealer and installed it myself. I take very good care of my vehicle so i couldn't stand having my truck look like crap. Well my new dash is now even worse than the first dash. I just cant believe dodge would let such an inferior product be used on their trucks. I thought they were supposed to be ram tuff??? i have had vehicles that were over 20 years old and the dash was fine how could a 7 year old vehicle go through 2?
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the dashboard was defective and exhibited fractures on the driver's side. The dashboard was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 105,000.

The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 127,000.
Dashboard cracking apart now has a hole in it. I'm afraid the sun will melt the wiring and possibly cause the air bags to deploy or other damage.
Broken dash parts are falling inside the dash and my headlights have developed an intermittent while driving at night they simply turn off for a brief period of time i recycle the switch and a few seconds they come back on at highway speeds this is a serious safety issue additionally the broken dash cap is distracting this creating an issue and distracted driving in ohio is illegal.i have researched this issue and amazed to find out it covers multiple years and there are hundreds of complaints o n line related to this issue. Additionally there are wires exposed to the occupants and i am not sure they are safe they can easily become work and shorted out thus creating a fire hazard/ please help by recalling this issue to dodge..

Dashboard is cracking and braking apart peace s are coming off and hitting me in the face and eyes.
The latch on the overhead center console broke. Ts

The dashboard sub structure (moulded plastic) on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 has mysteriously begun to crack and come apart.recently the radio almost fell out of the dashboard because the mounting points in the dash have cracked and broken.behind the dash, large pieces of plastic have broken and one began to fray the air bag selector switch wiring.i consider this to be unacceptable.the material chosen for the dashboard was obviously inferior.it will soon be a safety hazard if the dashboard completely fails.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated there were multiple cracks varying in size throughout the dashboard. The cracks had not affected the features of the vehicle but the contact was concerned it would in the future. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 that i bought new in october of 2001. Two years ago i started noticing hair-line cracks in the dash, and now the cracks are much larger. The dash has become very fragile. It was a very expensive purchase [$38,176.00] and i have taken exceptional care of it.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked to the point that it fractured into pieces. The contact was concerned that the failure could affect other components. The contact did not know if the dashboard was uv coated. Lithia chrysler jeep dodge of great falls (4025 10th ave s, great falls, mt 59405, (406) 205-3430) was notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000.
The dashboard has cracked into many sharp loose pieces. These pieces could fall into the wiring and other components under the dash or fly into the driver and cause a major problem. This would be a serious problem for occupants of the vehicle and fellow motorist. The fix as far as i can determine is very costly and extensive. The problem stems from faulty materials used in manufacturing and shouldbe a recall item. This is not the only instance of material failure on this model year truck. I have read of many such occurrences and hope this will be resolved soon.
Driving down the highway hood flew open at 65 mph. I had been driving the truck for several hours previously never touched the hood latch release arm in the truck in fact the hood had not been open in several weeks. I think there are still faulty hood latches out there on some of these trucksand the owners need to be notified.
Hood on dodge ram pickup flew up as i was driving. I was able to pull it down and beat it back into shape so i can still use the truck.
Another cracked dash board . Dealer said they haven't seen this before!! vary large cracks running from the leading edge to the windshield.
Dt*: the contact stated while performing repair work, it was noticed, that the frame was not welded properly.there has been no attempt to contact the manufacturer or dealer concerning the problem.
The rear spring pads on my truck are rusting apart. Not just surface corrosion but actual splitting and flaking of the metal. I am concerned about loss of control if the pad splits apart as the rear axle could shift, causing an accident.
Vehicle wanders from left to right when driving at any speeds. Dealer cannot determine cause, and claims vehicle is within specifications.consumer states it takes too much movement of the steering wheel to keept he vehicle on course.
I just wanted to report this about my truck , the steering wanders all over the road and have heard from other owners that theirs does to. I have carried it to the dealer one time and they adjusted the steering wheel but it has started back again.
The rear spring pads on my truck are rusting apart. Not just surface corrosion but actual splitting and flaking of the metal. I am concerned about loss of control if the pad splits apart as the rear axle could shift, causing an accident.
The vehicle pulled to the right or left, with the steering wheel being straight. The dealer was unable to fix the problem. Vehicle has been serviced 20 times.still problem still exist.new engine and 2 transmissions replaced.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle wobbled while driving. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but a failure could not be found. The technician replaced the steering box, ball joint, and front stabilizer shocks; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure began when the vehicle was purchased, but no one could repair the failure. The contact called lithia chrysler jeep dodge of billings (2229 king ave w, billings, mt 59102, (406) 206-3601) and was informed to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 250,000.
Dodge ram 2500 series 2001, numerous problems with vehicle steering mechanisms. The consumer stated he was constantly overcorrecting the vehicle left and right. The consumer had many alignments done but to no avail.it was discovered that all the ball joints needed to be replaced due to rust and no lubrication, the steering shaft and trac bar was replaced and the steering box was adjusted. The vehicle was taken to another mechanic and in his opinion alternate valve located in the steering was not performing as it should, when the mechanic removed the valve it extremely burnt from overheating. The consumer stated he no longer has any problems steering the vehicle.
When exiting at highway speed and coasting and hitting a bump the truck shook violently to the point of almost loosing control. After searching on the internet for a cause it appears this is a common problem with dodge rams called the death wobble.. It never happened before and have a problem believing something so extreme could be worn bushings or suspention parts that wear out over long periods of time.
Truck wandersrandomaly-front tire wobbles.*nlm
While traveling at or above 45 mph, vehicle will "drag" or pull toleft into oncoming traffic. Dealership has examinedvehicle, and stated that since there is no tsb for this problem, there is nothing that can be done to correctproblem.
Dt*: the contact stated that the ball joints are worn therefore the vehicle cannot pass the state inspection.the dealer alerted the contact that vehicles of the year, make and model have a lot of problems with the ball joints. The contact expressed concern about the safety of the vehicle in regards to steering.
When towing vehicle has jumped from side to side, changing lanes, was uncontrollable. Has been to dealer twice. Dealer replaced front end and power steering. Did not remedy problem.it is hard to drive the vehicle straight but the cause was not still found.
It wasn't the tires it is the front end of the truck itself.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.while driving 45 mph, he heard a loud bumping sound and the front end of the vehicle vibrated.in addition, the vehicle would not stay straight while driving 60 mph or greater.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure.the failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 92,000.
The owner took the vehicle into the dealership for inspection; the mechanic informed the owner that the front suspension had failed. The consumer will have the suspension replaced. *la
Steering wander on 2001 2500 series dodge quadcab pickup. Due mostly to faulty track bar.and front end alignment specs are to wide a range and it can be in spec but still wander all over road. You can drive down the road and for no reason at all the truck wanders into the other lane. You have to constantly counter steer back and forth to keep truck on the road. It is dangerous numerous times ive ended up in different lanes and off onto the burm of th road. The dealer forrer dodge told me that their replacing track bars all the time and have even replaced track bars on trucks that they had just received in from factory.theirs even a custom company that makes a custom track bar because the dodge one is defective.and theirs other companies that rebuild the dodge ones to be stronger so you can eliminate the wander. You know theirs a problem when theirs companies that make stronger track bars and thats the only thing they make.please recall it is a big problem not only on the 2001 but many other years too!theirs even a couple web sites like www.dodgetrucksteeringproblems.com and www.dodgesucks.com and www.dodgeram.org
My truck wanders on the road. It is a challange to keep it in the lane at high way speeds. I always have to continue to try to steer it left then right. There is several inches of travel in the steering wheel between going left and right. It is very difficult to drive on the highway and stay in your lane, even more, it is dangourus to drive when it is snowy and icy. Here in minnesota we have poor driving conditions for our long winter season. I bought this to be safe in the snow and ice, acctualy it is the opposite!!
It compromises my and my familys safety. I am not the only one with this problem please see http://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//forum17/html/000822.htmland you will see an addition 115+ people with the same complaint. I do hope to see a recall on this sterring wander/play/lack of responce problem. Thank you.
While driving about any speed vehicle wandered side by side and lost control.also, the steering box had been replaced twice for lack of steering.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph the engine started sputtering and smoking resulting in a loss of power.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for inspection.the mechanic determined the injection pump needed to be replaced, which no repairs were made.also, the mechanic noticed the tie rods were pulling apart on the front left and right side.the mechanic replaced the front left and right tie rods and ball joints.the dealership and manufacturer were alerted.
Upper and lower ball joints are failing in our fleet (33000+ miles).
Front end vibration, and vehicle will not pass state inspection.the front ball joints are defective.*tc
Had to replace both right and left upper and lower ball joints due to wear.the vehicle only had 40000 miles when the ball joint failed.
The consumer states at 45,000 miles the front upper and lower ball joints needs to be replaced. The cause has not beendetermined. Please provide additional information.
While driving 45 mph consumer heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Suddenly, vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Vehicle was taken to a body shop for inspection, and mechanic determined that both frontal upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced.

Front upper ball joints are worn out and need replacing.truck has never been used off road and most miles are highway miles.dealer suggested i contact dodge but when i did they refused any help.later that evening isaw an article in the paper about dodge having ball joint recalls on durangos and dakotas.this could be related and reported.
While driving at high speeds would shook, causing the driver to slow down. Consumer contacted dealership, andmechanic determined that upper ball joints wore out prematurely.

My truck only has 39k miles and was having severe issues with steering wobble and steering wandering.the steering stabilizer and track bar was replaced by the dealer but stills has play in the steering.although not currently under warranty these parts should not fail at 39k miles of highway driving.
Another worn track bar in the fron axle. 82,000 miles. Vehicle starts to wander. This will make the third one that needs to be replaced. They last about 10,000 miles. I am not the only one with this problem with dodge rams made from 1994-2002 that is four wheel drive with the cummins diesel. I had heard that someone had one that caused them to lose control
Dealer replaced at 20,000 miles theleft wheel bearing, and at 40,000 miles the right wheel bearingneeded to be replaced. Consumerstated normally wheel bearings were replaced at 85,000 miles.dealer stated that consumer should have bought an extended warrantyandwon't have this problem.left wheel bearing failure occured at 20,000 miles.dodge refused to talk to consumer's wife about the wheel bearing failure.finally dealership replaced the wheel bearing at the cost of $100.00.consumer feels that it is premature for the wheel bearing to have failed for a front end truck that is female driven.*mr
Rear spring mounts failed from rust causing temporary loss of control of the vehicle.truck has only 82k miles.this was one week after spending 1200 to replace rusted brake lines.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.the inside beads of the wheel began to fracture. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. The technician stated that the wheels needed to be replaced because of his driving habits.the current and failure mileages were 158127. Updated 1/25/10 the consumer stated the aluminum wheels were breaking through the inside beads. All four of the wheels were broken. The wheels appeared to have cracked where the metal wheel weight may have been located.updated 01/26/10
I removed the spare tire to fix a flat. It was the original spare and had never been used before. After having tire repaired i tried to return the spare to it's stow area under the bed but the winch would not lift it. It will work when the cable does not have weight on it but it will not lift the spare. The winch appears to have plastic parts. I feel this could be a safety issue if it would fail while driving down the highway.
The spare tire below the pickup bed broke loose from it's cable and fell out on to the highway.this also happened with my 1998 dodge dakota.
I was headed home going down a city street headed to the highway, when i herd a loud noise and felt a jolt from my 14' tandem axle enclosed trailer.i looked back and noticed that the trailer was riding lower than normal.i pulled into a gas station and when i got out to look i noticed that the trailer ball was about 2" off the ground.i looked under mytruck and noticed that the receiver hitch had broken.only 2 of the 6 bolts were holdingit up, and the middle bolt on the left side hade completely broke.i removed the ball and put it on the bumper to tow the trailer home.i took the truck to the dealer the next monday because i was told that they had a recall on the hitches.the dealer told me that the hitch was out of warranty, and that my model truck didn't have any recalls.they gave me the phone number to the factory for complaints. I had to purchase another hitch from another dealer. When i got home to put it on, i noticed that the new hitch had 8 bolts instead of 6.someone must have known that the old hitches were defective. I called the factorythe next day and they told me the same thing that the dealer had.i asked for the number to the factory area rep. And was told that the dealer would have to contact them.. I called the dealer back, and talked to the service manager.he said that he had already called for the rep. And left a message for him to call.no response. I told the service manager that they needed to have a recall on this hitch, because if i would have made it to the highway,at 65 mph,the hitch could have broken all the way, and with the safty chains attached to the hitch, the trailer would have been on its own and could have killed people.i still have had no call backs. I have pictures of the old hitch on my truck before i removed it.
Consumer was disconnectingtrailor from the hitch, and noticed that hole on one side was worn out, causing the pin to mushroom out.weight oftrailor could break the pin, losing all connections to hitch.
Dt*:the contact stated while backing the vehicle with a utility trailer in tow, the trailer hitch bracket fractured without warning.upon initial inspection, the hitch bracket was fractured in several areas.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the dealer determined the trailer hitch brackets were manufactured using a material with insufficient strength and the brackets needed to be reinforced.there is a nhtsa recall, # 00v107000, regarding the trailer hitches. The vin was not included in the recall.

Dash pad is cracked all to pieces.sharp pieces are coming off and could potentially be dangerous.this is a safety concern and dodge should recall this.
Dash board cracked leading to a crack in my windshield.i went out to my truck on the 4th of july and found that my windshield had a crack in it,upon further inspection i found that the dashboard was cracked in about 4 places.i have recently found a number of reports on the internet about dashboard failure.
2001 dodge ram dash cracked in multiple places.in the event of an air bag deployment/crash, dash will explode and create extensive injuries.replaced at own expense because dodge wouldn't do anything about it because its out of warranty.
I have a 2001 dodge ram pickup that the dash is collapsing in on itself. Now the wiring is exposed to the harsh sunlight of fla.i know that this is a problem with many other 2001 dodge ram pickups
Sharp plastic pieces are breaking off from the dashboard and trim around instument panel that could cause injury, especially during any type of a collision.
2001 dodge ram 2500 dashboard cracking. Consumer stated that he saw more complaints like this on the internet. He states that his dashboard has completely cracked.
Dodge 2500 2001 model dash is falling out to the point it is a safety concern wires are being exposed and kids can get hands and fingers caught in holes in dash. Dealer says it is aware of problem but will do nothing about it. Don davis dealership.
Dash cracked all over and fell apart with no accident
2001 dodge ram quad cab all four (4) doors rusting out vehicle had 32,000 miles when first noticed but was out of factory warranty dealer said it would cost about $6-9,000 to repair contacted manufacturer they said dealer has a good faith repair account, dealer said no now one year later truck looks like its 25 years old and the dealer can't understand why i won't buy another.
My dashboard is falling apart.it started with a small crack and know a chunk has fallen out.i have e-mailed dodge, but they are not willing to help.i am concerned that the damaged dashboard could cause problems for or with the airbag on the passenger side.daimler chrysler's reference number is: 13609941.
Dashboard is cracking and braking apart peace s are coming off and hitting me in the face and eyes.
The dashboard on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 began to crack, now there are several cracks in the dash.this vehicle is in a heated garage most of the time and the windows are open when in the garage during the summer and winter. The vehicle is well cared for and clean, i see no reason for this to have occurred.there are several cracks now across the dashboard on the top part.
While driving 65 mph, the spare tire cable broke without warning, which causedthe spare tire to release from the vehicle. *sc
I have a 2001 dodge ram and the dashboard has many cracks in it.my local news had a story on the many other dodge rams that have similar problems.some even say it has led to electrical problems.i have not had any electrical problems yet, but am concerned it may lead to that.
The dash is severely cracked. This is happening to several dodge ram's of the 2001 year that i know of. It is a dangerous situation, with the possibility of the broken dash falling downward and possibly damaging wiring, or even getting stuck on the gas pedal, potentially causing a serious accident.
The whole dash has fallen in and parts going everywhere, kid got cut, parts falling out bottom, awful,
While driving the dash cracked.two days later another crack and pieces fell in behind the dash.today the plastic dash continue to crack and fall apart.chrysler continue to say they are not responsible, but they are the installers and manufactor. 70 % of the dash is gone.
Dash in 2001 dodge ram 2500 has broken into pieces.dodge will not remedy the situation even though there is a more than enough instances of this problem with this year model of vehicle.material dash is manufactured with it's defective causing the dash to break apart and become a safety concern with the stability of the dash in case of crash.complaint would have been filed earlier but just recently learned of this site. *dt
I own a 2001 dodge ram2500. The dash started cracking just as my extended warranty ran out. Now the dash has cracks all over it and some of it has fallen down. I am aware of many, many other dodge trucks made in 2001 that are doing this. Eventually this will lead to electrical failures. Dodge says they will not fix this. It's pretty obvious if this many people have dodges with cracked up and falling apart dashes, it is a manufactureres defect.
Top of dash cracked so bad pieces are falling out. If we were to get into a head on collision, these pieces of broken plastic would turn into shrapnel. If i knew about this site sooner i would of certainly brought it to your attention. I'm not alone in this problem, or that it was caused by the sun, armoral, etc. Compiled over 1,500 other people on dodge ram forums, car complaints, and other such internet sites with the same problem, and no recall from dodge to fix this problem.
As 2nd owner for past 12 yrs vehicle was like new, about 3yrs ago it developed a crack in the dashboard from the windshield to glove box door and since has cracked in 2 other areas from windshield to front! this vehicle sits under cover of an rv shelter with my rv 90% of it's existence! i just recently found out that daimler-chrysler has refused any recall to to correct this faulty product for thousands owners experiencing this problem! i.cannot believe the government has not made chrysler responsible for replacing this inferior product as they have the air bags. I wholeheartedly pray that you can use your power to hold chrysler to stand up and correct this problem!
Dash breaking.
Dashboard began cracking on 2001 dodge ram truck in late 2007. It has now completely desintegrated and large pieces have come loose and fallen behind the dash. I'm truly concerned that the loose dashboard pieces could cause a malfunction of electrical or mechanical systems of the vehicle making it unsafe to drive.tt
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500.the contact noticed small cracks on the top part of the instrument panel, which have turned into large holes.the vehicle has not been inspected.the current mileage was 131,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.
The dashboard crumbled and collapsed into electrical and airconditioning equipment.
We purchased a brand new 2001 dodge ram 2500.(construction co.)by 2003 the dash was cracking.qucikly falling apart with chunks caving inward.even though there was no negligence on our part and obviously a manufacturer problem, the dodge dealership would not fix it for us. We have called the 800 number, seen on tv buthave gotten no help.the 2nd time we called they did not even return our call.as you can see, by this complaint site, this is a common problem of the 2001pickups!what can we do about it??
Dt:the contact replaced the accelerator position sensor twice.while driving, the engine light illuminated, and the vehicle lost power.the vehicle idled, but he had no control over the accelerator pedal.the first time this happened the vehicle had about 50,000 miles on it. 2001 dodge ram 2500 pickup truck.the cruise control malfunctions in three ways.1)it will turn itself on andstart to accelerate.2)it will resume on its own after being tappped out with the brake pedal.3)it has turned itself off.under some circumstances, either of those three malfunctions could lead to an accident.i was told by the service advisor at susan schein dodge trucks, in pelham, alabama, the problem was "servo failure."i paid them to put a new servo on my vehicle.on my way home from the shop, the cruise resumed on its own twice before i got home.i have advised chrsyler of the problem, but they refuse to take any action on their own.another dodge 2001 owner told me, he had a similar problem and it was the vehicle computer.he said chrysler fixed his truck and he was of the opinion a "recall" had been ordered.if so i was not advised and neither chrysler nor the dealer have agreed to repair the vehicle.[as for an exact date of incidents, i can't be sure.i know it turned itself on in may, 2004, and in september, 2003. Those two times are very specific in my mind! as for resuming on its own, that started inlate 2002, or early 2003.the number of failures listed is a conservative estimate.]other people have told me the problem is the vehicle computer.i've also had problems with the a/c working properly and with the o/d kicking in.people with more mechanical knowledge than i possess say, "the computer is fouled up!.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500 pick up. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the window fogged up and contact was unable to defrost the window causing his visibility to be blocked. The contac mentioned that the air conditioner only worked on the bottom vents. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to dealer who diagnose that the link for the blend air door fracture. As a result, the a/c heater blend door needed to be replaced. Also, the dashboard developed a cracked which was cause by the repairs done. The manufacturer was made aware who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 38,000.
The contact owns a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the heater motor was emitting hot air and he could smell burning wires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that the resister, wiring harness and the blower motor failed, which would need to be replaced. The contact repaired the vehicle by replacing the resister, the wiring harness and the blower motor himself. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The current mileage was approximately 98,000.

Approximately 4 blocks from my home my wife, who was driving the truck, head a noise coming from the right front wheel.i removed the tire and notice that a bracket on the braking assembly was grinding into the mag wheel.even though my wife drive a short distance, a significant gouge was made in the the soft metal of the wheel.i pushed the bracket back in place and took the truck to the local dodge dealer.i was informed that the "anti rattle bracket"at the bottom of the brake assemble had rusted to the braking assembly.everytime i pushed on the brake, it moved out until it was grinding on the mag wheel.the bracket was grinding on the wheel like a lathe, peeling off the metal of the wheel.if i had been on the highway and did not hear the noise, a serious accident could have happened.the continued grinding would have destroyed the wheel assemble.neither the dealer or the dodge consumer complain representive thought this was a very big issue.at this time, i feel that the saftey of this truck is a stake and could result in a serious accident if it is not resolved.

I filed a complaint with nhtsa recently and have not heard back from you. I did not write the number down so i am filing this complaint again. My husband has a 2001 dodge diesel that we bought in 2002.we went to put new tires on the truck and totten tire would not let us leave with the truck without putting new rims on it. They said the rims were dangerous. 3 of the 4 rims have cracks up to 3/8 inch wide, one has 10 cracks.i believe the rims are defective. The tire place said they have never seen rims like this before. I am attaching a picture for you to look at. I am very concerned that more dodge trucks have this problem.if one of these rims would have broke apart going down the highway we could have been killed. I contacted daimler chrysler about this and they are doing nothing to reimburse me for the $700.00 we had to pay forrims. They said the warranty had expired. Rims should not fall apart in4 years time. The vin # on his truck is 387kf23651g8xxxxx. Please let meknow if you can do anything to help me, and perhaps save other peoplefrom this same problem. I am concerned that if the rims on the dodge ram diesel pick ups are all cracking this badly many people may be injured. I will mail copies of the cracked rims with a copy of this complaint for your review.thank you for your time.updated 12/15/06.
While driving 55 mph vehicle started to pulling to one side.had stopped vehicle, checked out tires andnoticed that right front tire was losing air, like a slow leak. Put air in tire andstarted driving, but tirecontinued to leak.arrived home, took closer look, and discovered thataluminum alloy rim frommanufacturer, had a crack that caused the leaking problem. Checked other rims and they were also cracked. Had not taken vehicle to dealership.
Consumer complained about alloy rims on 2001 dodge 2500 vehicle.one of the vehicle's rim cracked releasing the air in the tire.
The tires kept losing air. When a tire repair shopreplaced the tires they noticed that bead on the edge of all fourrimscracked in 6 places, and will not hold air. There was no sign of impact damage. Dealership was contacted, but provided no assistance becausewarranty expired.
2001 dodge ram 2500.consumer states that the both front tires had a slow leak. *mcthe consumer was told that all 4 rims were cracked.
