Front end road walks have taken to dealer since3/26/2001 say needs off set ball joint and to this date they say still can`t get the part.
The dash just started to crack and fall apart into small and large very sharp pieces. What would happen in an accident? these sharp plastic parts could fly right into the driver and passengers faces.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v313000 (air bags) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
While driving 45 mph and without warning another vehicle made an illegal turn in front of consumer's vehicle resulting in front end of consumers vehicle being smashed head-on, resulting in air bags not deploying/ causing minor injuries.
Cruise control operated poorly, consumer took vehicle to dealer, they stated vehicle needed a clockspring. *jg

Consumer states had front end collision at 30mph and neither air bag deployed, causing injuries. Please provide any additional information. Ts
Passenger's airbag was off and on, switch can be turned on with a coin or a small toy by a child. Also, air bag light came on indicating that airbagwas on.dealer could not tell consumer if airbagwas actually on when this happened.dodgesaid that was how it worked in all their vehicles, but refused to test switch.the air bag switch seems to be defective and could cause injury or even death to children riding in the vehicle.
While traveling at about 55 mph another car was coming head-on and they had a front end collision. Upon impact, driver's side airbag didn't deploy, passenger's side has an on and off switch, which could have been turned off.some injuries weresustained.consumer has yet to contact dealer.please provide any further information.

2000 dodge 2500 ram van. Air conditioning compressor 12 volt clutch, whichdraws 4.5 amps measuredis fused at 20 amps , the power to this fuse only goes to one place the clutch.the wire appears to be #24 gauge which may be ok for the 5 amps or so but not for 10amps or more so why the invitation to a wiring harness fire by powering that line with a 20 amp fuse? i noted this condition after i had an airconditioning clutch problem. And found wires in the harness burnt and melted togather in the harness.
When i adjusted the steering wheel to a different position an apparent electrical failure shut down the engine and the power steering and power brakes rendering the truck almost uncontrollable at that speed. This catastrophic failure was replicated at different speeds and while stationary. Apparently any movement of the steering wheel will shut off complete power to the engine and cause a total loss of power to the vehicle.
Alert:dodge ram 2500 diesel life threatening problem ---on july 11, 2014, while driving on u.s. Route 77 in north carolina i passed an 18 wheeler at 70 mph and pulled back into the right lane in front of the truck when, without any warning whatsoever, the engine just stopped. The truck i had just passed nearly jackknifed as the trucker applied his brakes in a panic maneuver to avoid rolling over me from behind. Luckily, he maintained control, got around me, and continued on his way. I coasted to the side of the road and tried to restart the engine but, although it would crank, it would not start. I was forced to wait and then, after a time, tried starting it again. It did. I slowly drove to the next exit but not without incident. After going only a few hundred yards the truck bucked, hesitated and stopped again. Again, i waited. This scenario repeated itself until i got to safety. Coincident with the engine stopping the power steering failed, the abs light came on, it appeared the airbag system was inoperative and all the gauges in the instrument cluster stopped working.eventually, my truck was towed to lake norman dodge.there, the very helpful assistant service manager, terry, evaluated the problem saying either the powertrain control module or the instrument cluster was the problem but his experience led him to try replacing the computer first. Replacing the pcm fixed the problem. The instrument cluster resumed working.at least temporarily.on september 16 2014, on a local trip, the truck just stopped again. I was stranded on a state road. I used my prior experience with waiting, starting, driving a little way and having the engine stop again to limp into a local repair shop. Eventually, they towed it to shelor dodge in christiansburg, va. Where it currently remains,...inoperable.

Intermittently engine stalls and dies without warning, causing loss of vehicle control. Dealer has inspectedvehicle several times, and has not been able to duplicate or correct the problem.
Consumer has been having a problem with vehicle since 3 days after purchasing it. Vehicle will start up, but cuts off when in reverse.dealer was suppose to be fixing it. They saidfuel was bad duringwinter.computer inengine will not allow enough fuel to keep engine running.the dealer tried to replace the computer, but when the problem got worse, he put back in the original computer.the consumer states that this problem is a major safety issue since the extreme temperatures are life threatning if the vehcile stops runing suddenly.
Twice while driving the 2000 dodge 2500 club cab the engine stalled suddenly.the consumer was able to stop the vehicle with the emergency brake.once the consumer was bale to restart the vehicle he drove to the dealer where they replaced the fuel pump.the fuel pump failed again, the dealer informed the consumer to expect it to fail again for the third time.the starter had to be replaced and the consumer experienced problems with sluggish shifting.

After the purchase of a 2000 dodge ram 4x4 in 2003 i noticed cracks in the dash. Within two weeks the cracks quickly spread and evolved into huge holes until there was very little of the dash left. After the dash fell apart the lights periodically began to fail, the cruise control quit working then began working with a mind of its own,,, speeding up and slowing down and total shut off. Heater quit working immediately,,, dodge refused to do any repairs what so ever, stating it was not under warranty nor was it a recall item, therefore they have no responsibility in the matter. I know of at least 6 friends that owe the same vehicle and have the same problem and were told the same by dodge. I never intend on purchasing another dodge product again. Please help ...........

While driving the vehicle stalled without warning. *nlm
Unexpected engine stall on highway while pulling trailer. Lead to loss of power steering, brakes, etc.narrowly avoided major accident on highway. Found out later there is a seriously high failure rate of diesel injection pumps due to poor design.

Vehicle experienced fire in the engine compartment, the entire cab was burned, claim 36-a186-713.
2000 dodge ram 2500 has a cummins 5.9 liter diesel engine.the engine block has crackin the water jacket and is leaking coolant.cummins engine manufacture has admitted to this as being a problem and has not corrected the problem.
I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 4x4 auto with a cummins diesel.for the production years 1998 to 2001, some of these engines where produced with an inferior engine block (identified with a block casting number of "53"). More specifically these blocks have thinner water jacket walls than other blocks so with coolant cavitation, corrosion, coolant pressure in the block, and torque, they may crack, spilling your coolant.when the crack occurs, and there are very many documented cases, it is on the passenger side of the engine, the same side as the exhaust manifold.i have not heard of any fires, etc. But i know that engine coolant does contain flammable ingredients and the exhaust can get very hot, especially when towing.also, this engine with a 53 block has been used in other applications, including: medium duty trucks from different manufacturers, mobile homes, public school buses and mass transportation buses.i searched the nhtsa site for info regarding the cummins 53 block, but could not find anything.any information you can provided would be of great use.although the engine block in my truck has not cracked, i'm more interested in preventing a problem than experiencing it. Very many thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Dash board has cracked in several places, some pieces 3'x4' just fell into the dash.
2000 dodge ram 2500, dash board cracking and breaking leaving sharp exposed pieces of plastic. Called dodge but have gotten no help thus far with the problem. I feel that this could cause serious injury if and accident occurred. It cracked when we opened the door on a hot sunny day and then it has cracked and broken more in the extreme cold weather when opening the door.*ln
In july 2004 we took the truck in as it was not blowing cold air, they said that it was low on freon and had no visible leaks but possibly evap core leak.they put some sort of blue identifier in it and told us to check and see if we saw it anywhere so they would know where the leak is, nothing ever showed up.now 1 1/2 years later the air conditioner is not blowing cold air again. We even made sure that we turned the air conditioner on monthly as they told us to so it would not go bad.
Consumer notice air conditioner would make noise at all settings due to blower motor. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further information. Ts
With less than 50,000 miles the air conditioner failed due to a faulty evaporator. Repair cost was over $800.00.

At 37,000 miles truck run out of diesel with the gauge reading 1/2 full while doing 70 mph in the fast lane. Could not get out of the lane of travel. Caused a crash behind truck but truck was not hit. Other vehicles crash.
Dodge diesel pickup 2000 fuel injector pump failure in 2/2004, now 6/2005 fuel injector has failed again, dodge refuses to replace, we found out these are going bad about every 15000 to 20000 miles on all year models 2000,2001,2002 admitted by dealerships and mechanics alike.
My vehicle was started and on pulling out of a parking lot the engine shut down as though it ran out of fuel.the truck was towed into a shop and diagnosed with having a fuel transfer pump failing which in turn caused the injection pump to fail.this is on a dodge with a cummins diesel engine.the repair shop quoted a price to repair it and gave me what they determined to be wrong.prior to authorizing any repair contact was made with the chrysler dealer where it was purchased who also advised that this had been a known problem in the past that they had run into.the repair is to remove the transfer pump and place a fuel pump in the fuel tank and replace the line to the injection system and replace the injection pump.all this was $4500 in repairs.it seems that if chrysler knew about this and in later years corrected why are they not now forced to make a recall on the older models and/or pay for the cost of my repairs.
Driving behind an 18 wheeler on us hwy 67 north of newport, ar. I attempted to pass this vehical. After reaching approx. 2/3 past this vehical i lost all power in my 2000 dodge 2500 model pick up 24 valve cummins diesel with out any warning from any gauges that there was a problem with the engine. I had to take emergency action not to cause a crash from oncoming traffic.i had my truck towed to a garage to have it repaired. After inspection i was told the fule injector pump had failed as a result on the fule lift pump failing causing insufficent fule pressure to the injector pump.there is no light, gauge or any other device to let the driver know that there is a problem. The only new injector pump is supplied by dodge at very expensive $3000.00 range. The only other option is to purchase a remanufactured pump in the $1,500.00 range. I was told by one remanufacturer they had rebuilt well over 6000 of these pumps. As in my case this should be addressed as a very dangerous sitiuation. There are after market pressure switches to purchase with a warning light to alert someone of an impending problem. I had one installed when i had my truck repaired. Dodge should replace the pump and or re-imburse those who have had this failure or install the simple warning light for those who have not had this happen, yet. There will and may have been deaths because of a simple warning light not being installed at the time of manufacture.
Lift pump failed on my 2000 dodge ram 5.9 cummins engine only 1500 miles after the warranty lapsed (happened at 101,500). Since the timeframe was so close, would like to see if i can recoup some $$$ for the parts, i mean c'mon, $2800 (less $800 core charge) for this part, and so close to after the warranty expired ? have talked to other owners of trucks like mine, via the internet, in person etc., and was referred to this site. Is there or has there been any attempts made to recall this part ? anyway, lucky for me, it failed less than 2 miles from home, but what if i had been on a trip hundreds of miles from home, or right in the middle of freeway traffic ? thanks for reading, will be more than happy to reply to any further correspondence.
The vehicle, a 2000 dodge ram 2500 24 valve turbo cummins 5.7 liter diesel pickup truck, suddenly stalled and the engine shut down completely while the vehicle was in motion on a state highway traveling at approximately 65 mph. The vehicle, which has power steering and power brakes was difficult and dangerous to stop.ultimately the vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was determined that a fuel lift pump and primary injection pump failed. The primary injection pump, a bosch mod. Vp44,relies on fuel for lubrication.the fuel lift pump, which is placed forward of the fuel tank several feet, is poorly designed. The design requires to pump to both suck and pump, ultimately overworking itself. In a very short time, the pump becomes over-stressed and fails. Failure of the fuel lift pump causes immediate loss of lubrication to the primary injection pump, destroying the unit.the vehicle was ultimately repaired at the dealership with parts purchased independently. The dealership quoted a bosch factory remanufactured replacement pump at $2,600. A replacement bosch vp44 pump, remanufactured by the bosch factory, was purchased froma local diesel specialty store for $1,100, more than $1,500 less than if purchased from the dealer. A new lift pump was installed and the new injection pump was installed for a total cost of $2,300, before towing, which was an additional $250. In speaking a technician at the local diesel shop, he indicated that cummins and dodge have since changed the position of the lift pump in the new model trucks, but that the problem is persistent in model years 1998-2002. Individuals truck owners have found a work-around that eliminates the problem. That work around is to place the fuel lift pump either in the fuel tank, or, next to and below the fuel tank. This work around, while not acknowledged by dodge, was also suggested by the dodge mechanics at the dealership. They acknowledged that the placement of the fuel lift pump is a problem.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine light illuminated.while driving 50 mph the engine stalled.upon inspection the dealership determined the fuel injection pump needed replaced.the fuel injection pump was replaced three times at approximately every 45,000 miles.
Replaced transfer pump fuel, $3,400.00 at dodge dealership in blythe calif. I have owned 3 dodge diesels in the 2000 and every one had the injector pump failure, however, most occurted b4 warreny was up and were replaced. My truck and 130k miles and is not under warrenty
At approximately 14 miles north of town on a remote stretch of mountain roadway the 2000 dodge/cummins ram 2500; with only 57,000 miles, shut down as if i had turned off the key. I know several dodge/cummins truck owners and many have had experiences with the fuel injector pumps going bad on low mileage, late model trucks. Ended up having the vehicle towed.two days later put the truck on the ferry headed back to juneau. I made contact with daimler/chrysler corporation customer assistance.i described the above incident.i also stated that i was aware of the ongoing problems and numerous failures with the dodge/cummins fuel injection pumps.daimler/chrysler stated that the vehicles warranty period had expired but that the company would entertain the prospect of assisting me with the repair since the mileage was so low and acknowledge that the corporation was aware of the fuel injection pump problems.daimler/chrysler told me to get a diagnosis from a dodge dealership before they would proceed with any assistance.i promptly delivered the truck to the dealership that morning.i had to sign an agreement for a minimum of 1 hour labor at $100.00/hr.they confirmed my diagnosis of the fuel injection pump and quoted $2700.00 for the repair.i called the next morning and relayed this information to daimler/chrysler.they stated they would contact the dealership and get back in touch with me.daimler/chrysler has not made any attempt to contact me.
2000 dodge ram 2500 fuel injector pump quit after driving at a normal speed. I was out of town, almost two hours from home and it just died on me. I had to have it towed back home ($350 bucks to get it home) and was without a vehicle for three weeks. I tried all of the local dealerships to see if dodge had knowledge of a ongoing problems with the pumps, but nobody would help. I later discovered through friends and the internet that almost everyone has had to replace the pump on their dodge. This is my third and last dodge to ever buy. No wonder the company is dead last in vehicle sales and service.
While driving 60 mphengine reduced speed to an idle. Could not get the vehicle to accelerate above 5 mph. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who replaced the fuel injection/lift pump for the second time within 64,000 miles of wear.

While driving at 65mphvehicle will switch from 5th gear to neutral, and it will be hard for consumer to switch gears back. Dealer notified.
No notice of a problem, did all manufacturers required oil changes, transmission failed at 63,000 miles. Manufacturer, daimler chrysler refused to repair, transmission replacement found special optional trans oil cooler failed which cause trans failure. Had to replace all items at a cost of 4000.00.
While driving 45 mph consumer heard a loud banging noise coming from the front of the vehicle.a dark gray plume of smoke was coming from under the hood, along with some fluids. Consumer was able to get over to the shoulder and call a tow truck.the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who informed the consumer that another transmission was needed.the vehiclealready had a transmission replacement at 13,000 miles.
While driving and with no warning transmission went out. This could have cause an accident. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.consumer stated that the transmission was replaced. But the replacement has no backing up power and also started smoking.
Transmission down shifts out of sequence without warning, down shifts to lower gear and then shifts into next lower gear. This causes motor to tack out to 5500+rpm and shuts down, when rpm drops down motor fires up transmission down shifts again motor shuts down again. This will happen again and again until i back off gas petal. Transmission shifts through upper gears without stopping example;shifts from 2nd to 3rd 4th od without stopping.these problems happen when pulling loads, has happened without load caused truck to spinout of control. Last week while pulling a trailer on rain slick road down shifting nearly caused truck to jacknife. Dealers know there is a problem but cannot find any codes. Shifting problems and engine operating at wrong rpm causing extremly bad fuel millage.
When driving, vehicle will tend to try to move over to the side without consumer turning vehicle.contacted dealer.consumer states vehicle gets poor gas mileage.transmission does not shift correctly.brakes grab, pull, and lock up.consumer states while driving at speeds above 55 mph and hitting a bump, it will throw the vehicle to the side.
2000 dodge 2500 diesel truck - transmission goes into neutral at highway speeds without warning. This has happened about six times in the past two months, including once while pulling a 30 ft. Camper. I nearly lost control on a wet road on a hill in pa. It has been to the dealer 3 times. They refused to replace any parts because no codes show up when is put on the diagnostic machine. The problem goes away after leaving the engine off for a few minutes. It has not failed near enough to home and when the dealer was open. I don't want to have a fatal accident before the problem is solved.
Steering problems pulls right after purchase, complained about engine pinging and reving soon after buying, had steering componets replaced, truck has just turned off several times no restart, have had transmission complaints from 3 mos after boughtthey finally fixed once it went totally, 45 days later its again almost gone again,i contineuly complained about engine ping and truck dragging they kept saying nothing wrong until it finally went the engine and trannie is related bad tranie was makin engine drag and ping.
Vehicle experiencing problem with brake making loud bumping noise, andgrabbing fromrear wheels when brakes were applied. Vehicle has been indealer's shop on five occasions, and problem still reoccurring.transmission fluid has high aluminum according to sample analysis, the transmission had been replaced prior to this.rear axle also has a high level of iron and chrome in fluid according to the sample analysis.
The consumer stated that the torque converter slipped while driving".the vehicle was taken to the dealership to have the part replaced twice.please provide more detailed information.
Front wheel bearingsbecame defective shortly after purchase. Also, spindles were too small, andmaster cylinder and both seals had to be replaced.
Oil leaked out of the rear axle onto the brakes which was due to a defective rear axle seal.the oil saturated the brakes which caused them to lock up when applied.

2000 dodge ram 2500 left rear brake line rotted out and brakes failed when attempting to stop at a four way intersection.barely stopped in time to avoid the vehicle all ready at the stop sign.
While driving my 2000 dodge ram 2500, i experienced a brake failure while approaching an intersection. Incident occurred 7/13/08. The truck has 38,000 miles & well maintained. While performing a post incident inspection, i discovered the rear brake line behind the fuel tank had ruptured. There is no evidence of physical damage aside from heavy corrosion. This corrosion extends approximately 18" from the rear brake line junction block (picture available). While researching online to purchase a replacement line, i noticed large number of similar complaints posted in various forums (which was quite disturbing). The fuel line, along with the frame rail adjacent to the failed brake line has no signs of corrosion.

The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500.the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would veer to the left and right without any warnings. The failure occurred multiple times.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed.the failure mileage was 62,000.
I purchased a used 2000 dodge ram 2500 4x4 a few weeks ago.since taking ownership it has become extremely clear to me that the steering quality of the vehicle is extremely poor.the truck wanders all over the road and requires an excessive amount of corrections.i have had new tires put on and an alignment done.the problem still exists.i have let others test drive the vehicle and they all ask what is wrong with the steering.
They did not include the2000 dodge ram 2500 yet i have had the same experience several times.when travelling at highway speeds and hitting a bump or pot-hole in the road, the front end begins to shake violently and does not stop until the driver jams on the brakes and brings the truck back down to below highway speeds. Some people contribute this phenomenon to the worst possible downside of having a coil-sprung front suspension on a truck with a track bar. Unlike a typical suspension set up, dodge ram trucks will continue to shake long after hitting the bump to the point that controlling the vehicle is nearly impossible until the driver slows down.the current lawsuit alleges that chrysler learned about the death wobble defect with dodge ram trucks in the mid-2000s but waited four years before conducting a series of recalls from 2009 through 2013. Chrysler classified the recalls as safety recalls, h36, h46, k28, l16, n62, n49, and n63. The recalls addressed various parts of 2009-2012 dodge ram trucksā€™ steering linkage system, including its tie rod assemblies. The complaint alleges that the recalls excluded many affected vehicles and that chrysler provided replacement parts that were also defective, forcing chrysler to make additional recalls to remedy prior recalls. Consumers have reported that chrysler does not have enough replacement parts to repair all the vehicles for which it has submitted recall notices and that drivers have been put on long waiting lists for repairs. Chryslerā€™s steering linkage defect and redesign. Allegedly, the ball stud is defective in the chrysler suspension design. The driverā€™s side tie-rod ball stud that chrysler used is too weak to and is known to fracture under normal driving conditions. The tie rod is a ā€crucial linkā€¯ in the vehicleā€™s steering system. A loose tie rod can cause any vehicle to have an excess shimmy or the dreaded death wobble. The tie rod can affect front-end alignment. This happen several times in the last 15 years

Loss of steering control.
The steering on my 2000 dodge ram 2500 4x4 has been sloppy/wanders for about the past two years.first, i replaced all four tires with the same standard tires.i then had it aligned and the mechanic couldn't get the steering wheel straight.so i took it to the dealer, and they recommended an independent alignment shop.there the mechanic replaced the track bar and got the steering wheel straight.that seemed to tighten up the steering wheel a bit.several months later the wheel was sloppy again. I took it back to the dealer, and they got in and test drove it with me.they did acknowledge that the wheel was "loose" but the dodges just had loose steering.they also said they could tighten up the steering gear box.so i let them do that.but when i went to pick up the truck, the service manager told me that i might have to replace the gear box soon.before i did that i wanted to see if anyone else had this problem, and they did.many people on the turbo diesel register web site have this same problem.this is how i was referred to this web site.if so many people have problems with the steering, why isn't a recall issued to correct the problem.

October 28, 2003dodge customer assistance centerp.o. Box 21-8004auburn hills, mi 48321-8004dear mr. Or ms.: i would like to acquaint your staff with the problem my 2000 dodge ram 2500 series with 4wd experienced last month at 128,000 miles. The vehicles vin is:[xxx]. The problem concerns an early steering box failure which meant loss of the power steering assist disappeared. There was no damage to vehicle or person and since i was on a quiet rural highway it was a matter of routine to bring the truck to a stop and figure out what had happened. Your dodge dealer in vancouver, wa declined to help so the truck went to my tire and suspension dealer of long standing in camas, wa and they replaced the steering box, the track bar and the tie rod ends. Im not concerned about the tie rod parts as those are wear items. I do believe that dodge should help with my expense of the gear box and track bar replacement especially since i purchased the extended warranty when the vehicle was new even though it has run out. Obviously gear box failure should not occur at such a low mileage. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I have had all kind of problems with the steering on this truck. It started at 6941 miles to much play in steering. A dodge dealer in cricleville, ohio replaced the tie rod-drag link. It didn't help. I went back to the dealer at 16000 and asked him to drive the truck. We went down a stright road and i told him to watch his hands on the steering wheel. He was moving the wheel all the time to keep the truck between the line on the road. He said it was normal with the dodge ram. I was mad when i left the dealer because i no better. At the time i worked for a semi truck manfacture, kenworth in chilliothe, ohio. When we would take these semis for test drives the steering was excellent. No play at all.at 22986miles i drove the truck to another dealer in columbus, ohio. Same problem but they inspected and replaced the steering column. No help. At 26046 miles took the to same dealer same problem replaced the steering column coupler and intermediate shaft. Also had a tran leak . Replaced transfer case output seal. No help. Same dealer at 29875 miles same problem but they adjusted pitman arm? and replaced rear axle housing seal. No help. At 33696 miles same problem but now i'm loosing power steering sitting still and another trans leak. Same dealer replaced output shaft seal, replaced steering coupler, adj pitman arm. No help at all!!!!!!!!!!! i got the guy who work on the truck and told him to look at the play on the steering wheel just sitting there. He said he called the tech line for dodge and told me there is nothing they can do about it. I called dodge that day told them what was goin on and they said they would keep it in there computers. Unbelievable!!!!! i called a dealer in mt. Steering ohio. Did not want anything to do with the truck. However i talked the service manger into putting a new power steering pump on my truck. He ordered a pump for a 2000 dodge 2500 but when they went to put it on the shaft was different on that pump . I have a 2001 pump on a 2000 truck.*
Steering becomes almost impossible to turn when backing or moving forward slowly.it happens in cool to cold weather. Was told by dealer that factory says this is normal condition. This can create a hazard when turning a corner and steering won't turn.
Steering on this truck is loose.took it to dealer and service writer said they changed the steering on the new trucks and it will never drive like my 199dodge 4x4 did.i have side to side play in the pitman arm that comes from the lower bearing in the steering box.have talked to lots of other owners who have the same problem.i have had the truck to a front end shop and had the alignment checked and it meets factory specs.the truck likes to wander all over the road, steering feels dead in the middle and you can feel a funny bind in it when taking a curve on the interstate.it makes you over correct because you wonder if anything is connected to the sterring box or not.towing a trailer makes it even worse.it is a diesel so i think you should be able to tow with it at least that is why i bought it.thanks

Possible defective dashboard, has multiple big cracks and is fatigued material, seems to be getting worse and posing a safety hazard. If vehicle were to be involved in a crash, sharp plastic shards will be projected thru cab of truck. I do have a family and their safety is a major concern. Please get back to me in reference to this matter.
I own a 2000 dodge ram 2500 pick up truck with diesel, about a year ago my dash started to deteriorate falling off in chunks.i can see where this could be a safety issue.it could fall down in the way of the peddles or cause damage if in an accident by flying all over the place.
Started truck up and commenced to travel to my destination. During that trip there was a loud snap and the dash pad developed a crack which has since turned into many cracks with a piece of the pad falling down inside the dash. Also the instrument bezel has since broke on the top edge where one of the pad cracks is. When i showed it to the service dept. At a local dealer right after the initial crack they said there was nothing that could be done because it was off warranty. The main cracks seem to have started at screw mounting holes. I have also had small pieces of plastic fly out of the defrost holes at times with some hitting me in the face. This issue should be a recall especially since mine started at around 24 to 25 k miles and i only have approx. 76k on it now. Also this has been a major problem with a whole lot of people. Also the seat cushions are junk. I had mine replaced under warranty and within 60 days the base support was right back where it was and i was told they couldn't replace them again.
Dashboard on my 2000 dodge ram 2500 is cracked an pieces are falling out leaving a big hole in the dashboard.
Cracked dash in a 2000 dodge ram 2500. In reference to the news story done by wkmg orlando.
Dash is cracked and has fallen in some areas. Sharp pieces have broken off and are loose.
I cleaned the dust off the dash board and noticed a crack forming from one of the vents, on the passenger side, at the windshield moving toward the interior. Today, 4/20/2012, i noticed another crack, on the driver's side, coming from the vent up over the top. It is 10-12" long already.i did an internet search and it seems that there are many others with the same problem. It appears that once this starts, the entire dash begins to self-destruct. This is very dangerous as pieces can go flying in the event of an accident and air-bag deployment.
I am the owner of a 2000 model dodge ram 2500. The truck is an extra vehicle that is seldom used with only 43,000 miles and is very well taken care of. Two years ago the dash began cracking just in front of the driver. I was concerned, but thought it was just sun damage to my specific vehicle. Within only months the problem had grown and there were many other cracks from end to end on the dash. A local body shop looked at the problem and gave me an estimate of nearly $1000 to replace the dash. Still assuming this was an isolated problem with only my vehicle, i decided to purchase a dash cover to hide the unsightly cracks and possibly protect it from further damage in lieu of the expensive dash replacement. The dash cover did hide the cracks, but did nothing slow down the continual cracking. After speaking to others with similar problems and reading numerous accounts on the internet, i am now concerned about safety issues related to electrical system problems, air bag deployment as well as flying projectiles in the event of a crash. I filed a complaint with daimler-chrysler, which stated knowledge of the problem only to be told the vehicle is out of warranty and the district manager had declined any assistance to remedy the problem. Thanks for any help to rectify this issue.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500.the contact stated that the dashboard was severely cracked which caused sharp edges of the dashboard to be exposed. The failure had been on going for four years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure and he was advised that the dashboard needed replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.
I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 with approx. 58k miles. The dash board developed a couplecracksa few years into ownership. At this point the dash is literally falling to pieces. Large holes have developed exposing wires and very sharp edges. Pieces will simple break off without ever touching the dash. I am unable to drive the vehicle because i feel it is unsafe to have all the exposed wiring. I would replace the dash however i am told it will do it again as chrysler has not corrected the manufacturing process of the dash or that the new dash i would get would be old stock of the same material.
Cracked dash.
My 2000 dodge 2500 dashboard has shattered and completely fallen in. The pieces range in size from softball to slivers. I have covered the gaping hole with carpet. The lack of a dashboard has exposed wiring to the elements, the airflow to the defroster and dash vents is disrupted, and created a shrapnel hazard. There is not enough structure left for installation of a glue over dash cap and will require the entire dash to be replaced; there is a problem with the dashboards dodge should be taking responsibility for this.
Dashboard cracked and now has fallen apart. Now there is a 6"x6" hole in the middle of my dashboard.
Dash cracked and dash bezel cracked in 2000 dodge ram 1500. Replacing new dash bezel however there is only a dash cover for these trucks. Dodge does not cover expense for a new one. The pieces can become dislodged from the dash and cause injury.
I own a 2000 dodge ram 2500 sport. The dash is cracked and falling apart. The plastic is sharp and sometimes the small pieces fly out and strike people. It's also distracting because it looks horrible.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500. The contact stated that the dashboard was fractured. The dashboard was previously replaced twice for the same failure. The contact was afraid that the air bags would deploy without warning. The dealer was not notified of the failure and no repairs were made. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The front dash boardcrumbled behind the front panel according to my mechanic while put ona facing dash cover to patch a crack in the instrument panel.. The dash that is protected with cover is grossly cracked.i also drive 52 year old vw bug that has started to have some plastic failure around the steering wheel, but not a single crack in the dash after 52 years in the californiasun. The dodge on the other hand failed after just 9 years, and failed catastrophically. The cracking most likely happened sooner as i had a dash cover on it and didn't think to check until the cover need to be secured with velcro again.
Top of dash cracked under normal operation. I have heard multiple complaints of this happening in similar vehicles.
Cracked and collapsed dashboard. I believe the passenger airbag is in jeopardy of a false trigger and/or deployment, potentially causing bodily harm or injury.or worse, it may not deploy at all should an accident occur. Absolute no support from the manufacturer.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500 quad. The dash is badly cracked, from the heating duct in several directions including over the speedometer and toward the passenger side.a piece has fallen in.it appears more will, too.i understand from others with this problem the whole dash will eventually fall in and that dodge takes no responsibility for what appears to be a very common manufacturing defect in this make of truck.the cracking is not crazed as would be expected from uv damage.this is an ongoing problem that has slowly worsened over the course of several years.
2000 dodge ram 2500 dash panel broke off while driving and became wedge between steering wheel and metal framework.
Cracked dashboard on a 2000 dodge ram 2500.the dashboard on our dodge ram has been cracked and falling in on the electrical components under the board.it is very ugly and so far we have not had any electrical problems but i am afraid to take any trips fearing being stranded because of the dashboard parts falling into the hole.
I have major dashboard cracking on 2000 dodge ram truck. Vehicle has not been involved in an accident, it appears that the material used in the dashboard is defective. It is my opinion that if i was in a serious accident, large shards of the dashboard could come loose and cause a serious injury.
Dash cracking and starting to collapsed.
Dodge 2000 2500 4x4 spare tire fell off while driving on rough gravel road---the vehicles' whole life has been in sitka alaska 99835 --cable was rusted.
Dash is cracked completely in two pieces and unsafe. I found that it is a factory flaw and feel that dodge should replace at no charge.
The dash just started to crack and fall apart into small and large very sharp pieces. What would happen in an accident? these sharp plastic parts could fly right into the driver and passengers faces.
I am a owner of a 2000 dodge ram truck (2500, 4x4, ext cab 104,000k miles). My complaint is about the dash board cracking or better yet becoming brittle. Right now i have countless cracks and a softball size hole on the passenger side of the dash. I don?t dare touch the dash as i fear of it collapsing. While owning the truck i lived in buffalo ny and now south carolina. Throughout my ownership of the vehicle i have used sun shades to protect the interior of my vehicle. I have own countless vehicles and live in az for 9 years and have never seen a dash break down like mine has. I will have to go to the dealership and have them replace it at my expense as it is a serious safety issue. One could spend hours even days reading about all the complaints about dodge dash boards cracking and shattering. Chrysler/dodge needs to be held accountable for their unsafe product designs and recall all defective models. The most upsetting part of this is i have to pay a high price to replace a faulty component for another faulty component. It's a win win for chrysler/dodge. Dashboard has literally fallen apart.started with a small crack, now has a huge whole in it from collapsing in on itself.
My 2000 dodge ram dash started to crack in 2003 and now has cracked so bad that chunks are popping off of it driving down the road.
The 2000 dodge ram dashboard began to crack when truck was two years old.the dealership reported that it wasnot under warranty, and triedto fix it by himself.after a coupleof years the crack grew and eventually large pieces of the dashboard broke off. It has not been repaired.
Dashboard cracked all along passenger side as well as drivers side.the crack is so bad, its going to cave in.please help us to get thisfixed. This dodge is the 3rd vehicle we have purchased from blackburn motor vicksburg,ms.
Dash is falling apart under carpet dash cover.
I purchased new in 2000 a dodge ram 2500 sport extended cab and two years ago the dashboard began cracking, at this point pieces of the dash have fallen through leaving holes in the dash.i tried to get the dealership in concord, nh to fix it when it was under warranty but they refused.it appears that this is not a limited defect as i've found thousands of complaints on the internet from similar year owners.

The dashboard of my 2000 dodge ram pickup truck has caved in.it was hidden by a fuzzy dashboard cover when we purchased the truck last year as "used" and only discovered the problem when we removed the cover.it turns out it is a known problem with chrysler, but they will not repair it.
Dash has cracked and piece fallen out. Since the dash holds the passenger airbag a cracked dash could cause the airbag to not function properly in an accident.the cracked dash is a big problem in the dodge pickups from 1998.the dealers won't do anything about it since there has not been a safety recall issued.
My complaint is on a 2000 dodge 2500 for a cracked and disintegrated dashboard. The dashboard has collapsed; exposing wiring to the elements, diffusing and eliminating the defrost and dash vents, and creating shrapnel hazards to occupants in the event of a crash or air bag deployment. The failure of the dashboard progressed from two several inch cracks to complete failure in the course of 2 months.
Dash is falling apart. If the airbag deploys plastic shards are going to fly also plastic shards are falling into my vents and blowing out my a/c vents and hitting me in the face.
I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 with the dashboard cracking and large sections falling out. This could create flying shards of sharp plastic should i be in an accident.
Vehicle did not come equipped with a grab assist handle to enable front seat occupants to enter the vehicle without trouble.
The dashboard is cracked and broken in several places.
Dash top cracked and broke into dozens of pieces falling into dash. The dash top is no longer usableand must be replaced at a cost of over a $1000. The loose parts could cause wiring to be damaged and other parts not to function, defrost vents arenot being held in place. The new factory part will be no better after the sun and heat get to it! dodge need to be responsible an replace the part with a better part!
Dodge ram2500 4x4 ,miles 52kbottom of doors rusted. ,dealer says gotta have holes before they adj the claim . Who wants to wait till there truck has holes in it to fix ?any help appr .jim p.s both sides .
The metal surrounding the door latch has ripped in half leaving a gaping seam and the door latch will not keep the driver's side door safely closed. Therefor, because this is a daily driver for me, i have to use a 1,000 lb cargo strap to keep the door shut until i can find a way to get it fixed.
First of all, does anyone at the nhtsa even read these complaints? much less, do they even act on these complaints? and what does it take for them to act?i too have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 truck that has a dashboard that's been falling apart for the last five years. I have a football size hole in mine. It too, is so brittle i dare not touch it. I have read dozens of complaints on this problem from multiple sources, yet nothing is being done by the nhtsa to force dodge/chrysler to correct it. Why is that?do they need to wait until a serious injury or death occurs before acting.......or do you need to have multiple serious injuries or deaths?
While driving at 30 mph with the windows down, the roof vibrates up and down, consumer states that it looks like the roof doesn't have enough supports.
The dashboard around the instrument cluster, radio, and heat/ac controls is breaking into pieces.i am concerned that this will be a safety issue in the event of an accident.this is because of the sharp and jagged edges and loose material all throughout the dash area.currently i have zip ties holding my heat/ac controls in place and 2 remaining factory screws holding my radio in place.the top portion of the dash also has failed and fallen apart over the years and due to safety concerns, i have already replaced it.i have been unsuccessful in finding a suitable replacement lower dash assembly to replace mine with.
Dash cracked and shattered to pieces, with no reason apparent reason and/or without operator's control.part of it happened when i was driving.
Dt*:the contact stated while inspecting the undercarriage, he noticed the cross member was cracked.the vehicle was inspected by the dealership, but no diagnosis was given.updated 9/15/2006 - the frame cross member that supported the transmission cracked.the underside of the cab was broken and bent at numerous points. The dealer was not interested in repairing the vehicle because it was out of warranty.
Dashboard cracked and has sunk in.fumes are now coming through the dashboard.i wonder if the airbag will work now.i thought this was a individual incident but now i am finding out that many customers are experiencing this same problem.i need to get a dashboard replacement but that is going to cost over $300 just for the part and $300 to install.dodge is not issuing a recall but should since this can go into a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500. During an oil change, the mechanic stated that the bracket that held the control arm to the front axle corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
While driving vehicle severely pulls to the right or leftwithout warning. Dealer replaced the gear box which did not correct the problem.please give any further details.
While drivingon any kind of road surface vehicle would pull towards the right, causing the driver to lose control.
This happen several times in the last 15 years
Van frame is rusting out, steering box that is mounted to frame is likely to fall off soon. Tie rod to frame connection also is rusting out.to my knowledge and after research on the internet, there is no reasonable fix.
The left tire was lose due to wheel bearing assembly and ball joints failure.*ph
Front end/steering problems. Whenever i hit a large bump in the road, my 2000 dodge ram 2500 just about wanders off of the road. It seems as a large vibration of some sort is takes over the steering. *nlm
2000 dodge ram 2500 4x4- problem = suspension. Vehicle will experience violent front end shake and loss of control after contact with minor road imperfections and bumps. Vehicle is not safe to drive at any speed. After further research via the internet i have come to understand that a very large percentage of dodge owners is experiencing very similar problems. I am sincerely concerned for the safety of myself and others.
Since we purchased this van, we have not been able to control the steering on the highway. It sways constantly and the steering mechanism is unable to counteract this. It literally is all over the road with the slightest bit of wind. We have a stabilizer bar installed in the front. It is dangerous to drive on the highway and must be kept in the outer most lane so it will not sway into the guard rail or another vehicle. The dealer has looked it over and has not been able to find any defects. Nonetheless, we purchased it to transport our youth group and other groups in the church to and from events. Members are becoming more and more hesitant to use it.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 2500.the contact stated that when driving at any speed, the front end of the vehicle would intermittently shake uncontrollably.whenever the failure occurred, the contact would allow the vehicle to roll to a stop.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the components for the front suspension were replaced.the failure continued.in addition, the springs within the front drivers seat were piercing through the seat cushions.the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed and was not repaired.the failure mileage was 103,500 and the current mileage was 103,800.
Consumer notice while traveling at 55 mph or bumps vehicle would shake out of control. Please provide further information.ts
While driving truck pulls badly toright. Dealer told consumerit would straighten up.consumer statestheresuppose to be a recall on vehicle. The right front wheel assembly fell off due to weld failure.the vehicles surges forward randomly.there was smell of fuel inside the cab when windows are up.the steering box had failed and replaced.tie rodsand motor compartment seal failed. The customer had returned the truck to the dealer because of numerous problems.
Driver experienced problems with excess play in the steering, possibly due to front wheels misalignment. Yh
While driving, vehicle wanders from right side to the left side which may cause a loss of vehicle control andresult ina crash.dealer cannot determine the problem.consumer still not satisfied with the repair done by the dealer. *ml
There seems to be a problem with the design of the dana axles in which cross caster adjustments cannot be made.i have found that all alignment shops try to adjust the lower control arm eccentrics in opposite directions, thereby twisting the axle to force the cross caster angle.from what i have found out (see http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/00_steer_specs.html) this forceing of the lower eccentrics is not the way to achieve cross caster adjustments.the lower eccentrics are for caster only after the cross caster is set.i recently found recall #861on these axles.mine missed it by 6 days.i could not help but wonder if a rush to correct the situation and still meet demand may have led to some being built out of specs.never the less, this twisting and forceing cannot be good on the very area that the recall was about, the right lower control arm bracket.my private alignment shop could not correct the problem. The dealership will get it back next week for the third time.i have discussed it with them and i am ordering an aftermarket part to replace the upper ball joint that will allow them to adjust the cross caster.this will not be covered by warranty.out of my pocket, a gamble with the warranty, but i have to have a vehicle i can hold on the road.note: they are also ordering a new steering box.i am not sure if it was really bad, or after days of trying to force an alignment they figured try this.when reading about the steering box, keep in mind that the previous shop could not align the vehicle cross caster.this could not be resolved.i really want to stress the twisting that is being done to potentially all these axles. Please check the web site i sited.
Ball joints squeakedloudlydue to lack of lubrication.dealer had been contacted.the lower ball joints did not have any grease fittings.
Due to faulty ball joints, the consumer experienced unusual tire and brake wear.*ph*tc
Vehicle's front wheel bearings keeps going out. This causes lost of steering and brakes.
Front wheel bearingsbecame defective shortly after purchase. Also, spindles were too small, andmaster cylinder and both seals had to be replaced.
While driving on state highway and without warning power steering locked up, causingvehicle to stop inmiddle of traffic.consumer states that the right front center bearings exploded, throwing the vehicle up and down. *yd
Vehicle experiencing problem with brake making loud bumping noise, andgrabbing fromrear wheels when brakes were applied. My 2000 model dodge 2500 3/4 ton pickup lost it's rear axel under normal driving conditions.it has camper package which included a special helper spring on the rear suspension.my insurance company has informed me that the u-bolts holding my rear end on had broke free of the spring assembly. Causing my truck to roll side over side and the come to a rest on it's passenger side.the rear axle was found 100 yards away from the truck.this defect has been noted on the 2001 series trucks of the same body style and make.i was traveling at 65 mph on a straight stretch of highway known as il rj 6 1 mile north of i-74.the truck began to get loose.i noticed the back of my truck start to come around and then when i tried to counter steer i lost control and roll side over side onto the median.the rear axle seemed as if it had shifted back on one side causing it to swing the back of the truck around. Local law enforcement also noted this to be very possible due to the accident scene.my insurance compnay noted that they believe the u-bolts failed and are currently sending the truck to chicago, il for an extensive investigation into the cause of the failure.my insurance company is state farm insurance.i was not badly injured in the accident, but doctors and police told me i was very lucky to have walked away.mr
Michelin tires which came with the 2001 dodge 2500, due to the "cheap rubber," all tires are 70% bald, which may cause a blow out.also, maybe due to the weight of the vehicle.please provide further information.

The dashboard in my truck with only 92,000 miles is developing numerous cracks at the windshield area near the defroster vents, and around the mounting screws near the windshield. I have personally seen this in at least 10 other ram trucks, and have found hundreds of pages on the internet of people complaining about this problem. Some have huge holes in the dash top! i've seen pictures of this. The service manager at my local dodge dealer told me that they are very aware of this problem in the ram trucks, and have replaced several for the city of tallahassee that are out of warranty, but, chrysler says they will not replace the dashin my truck, because it is out of warranty??. I am concerned that in a head-on collision that the dashboard could shatter and send sharp plastic projectiles thoughout the cabin. Also that the airbag might blow out of it's mounts! this seems like a major safety concern!
Dash cracked.
Plastic dashboard has multiple fractures and cracks through no fault of mine. Many of the edges are very sharp and could lead to serious injury if the vehicle was involved in an accident and one of the occupants was thrown into , or contacted the dash with any part of their body. This is ridiculous that the dashboard is falling apart on this pickup all by itself. I suspect atsome point i won't be able to drive the vehicle anymore because the gauges will be laying on the floor.

Severe cracks and cave-ins on 2000 dodge 2500 ram pick-up truck. Chrysler has refused to repair them.
My dash is cracking and large sharp peices of it are just laying on the dash, it seems to get worse every time i look at it. I am worried those peices will fly up and into my face or my childres face while driving down the road. The only thing i can think of to do is try to glue them back down. Even so it continues to crack and what if i dont katch a new cracked peice and it does hurt someone.
I have a 2000 dodge ram that has a very bad dash problem.it started cracking a year ago.i called the dodge dealership in temple, tx when i was living in that area and they said they were very aware of the dash problems in the dodge trucks but couldn't do anything about it.since then i have talked tohundreds people on the phone - in person - on on the internet about this and they were told the same thing.now to me this is a very serious problem.i am a member of a local fire dept and i know what a busted dash can do in a wreck - that plastic can be very dangerous.there is no way to tell if the air bag will work properly - the crack could have splintered and you would never know it - until it is too late and the air bag doesn't deploy!! i am very concerned about this matter with not only my truck but everyone elses with cracked dashes!! please help and do something.
Vehicle is parked in a covered car port to keep the sun off, but the dash top still managed to crack a few years back. Now there is no dash top at all since it has fallen apart. While i was driving, the clips holding the bezel in place popped out since they clip into the dash top, which is no longer there, leaving the bezel to fall right off.
Steering wanders always fighting todrive, the speed control never keeps an even speed transmision is always shifting and most times will not shift back to 4th gear after climbbing ahill, the transfer case makes a whining noise at any speed or gear all together this truck gets 5.5mpg hwy and has no power it is rated for 8,000pounds trailering and i cant tow two snowmobiels reported to attny. Gen .following up on lemmon law proceedings . Just wanted my findings noted so the general public is aware of these problems. Becouse chrysler sais they are not...but funny how i found three otherpeople w/same problems and have already had ther trucks bought back by chrysler. In my area alone!makes ya think.... I hope.
