I purchased this truck this past summer.i found recently that several safety recalls had not been performed on the truck.i took the truck to the dealer.they refused to complete the ignition switch wiring recall until i paid them to trace all of the wiring that could be affected because one of the wires on the ignition switch harness had melted.they did not know how much this might cost me.the dealer contacted fca to see if the factory would "contribute" to the cost.fca declined.i contacted fca and they told me on a vehicle of this age they were no longer responsible for anything beyond the extent of the recall repair.i said that was fine - just do the recall.they refused to authorize the recall repair unless i agreed to allow the dealership to trace all of the wiring they suspected could be damaged.i'm at a loss here.who can i contact for help? fca knows the wiring for the ignition switch will melt and possibly cause a fire.it is quite evident the wiring has melted - even burnt off.how is it that they are not responsible for the complete repair of damage caused by this known defect?they seem to be saying they are no longer responsible due to the age of the vehicle.they are calling the service adviser at the dealership their "trained expert". And he cannot confirm that the failure is not just "wear and tear".is this true?does nhtsa allow manufacturers to use this as an excuse to not perform a recall?

Consumer took vehicle in to dealership to have recall repair work performed on vehicle, after receiving vehicle back consumer stated the radio, dome lights, map lights and door chime did not work, after vehicle was looked at, consumer was informed by dealership that when they were welding the reinforcements a spark hit the ground box.

Nhtsa # ea198010 headlight switch recall excluded the b1500 and b2500 series stating that the power draw is not as great as the b3500 series.this is in error.my 1995 b2500 burned out this same light switch and left me with no headlights.(i have not added any additional lighting). I request that ea98010 be reopened to include the b1500 and b2500 series trucks as this is a safety hazard which is the same problem as the b3500 series.i replaced the switch at my expense and can send you the old one if you need it.

Light switch circuitry burned inside dash and caused heat damage to dash and wiring inside. Vehicle was recalled for wiring and when recall was complete, fuel guage and temperature guage failed to operate normally. Light switch failure and ignition system malfunctions believed to be related.

Consumer went to have the recall repair completed on the vehicle and was charged with additional repairs to the vehicle, which were all possibly related to the recall defect. *mjs

Ignition switch failure caused overheating which caused burning and melting of wiring relay harness.

I took the truck in for an engine warning light check.the dealer performed the fix and worked the 3 factory recall issues, including the electrical system ignition switch.the technician noticed that the ignition switch did overheat and melted the steering column plastic shroud.he also noticed a 2-3" section of the main wiring harness behind the fuse box with 2 wires that were burnt with the insulation completely burnt off.he was hesitant to drive the vehicle for fear of it starting a fire.the dealer notified me that the repair may cost $2000.00, and was not covered under warranty.maybe a related issue, but the radio shorted out 2 days before the service call and the technician said there was no power to the fuse block.is this issue (the main wiring harness repair/replacement) covered under the recall of the ignition switch, or should it be if there is evidence of major failure of the harness?

Fuel sensor will fluctuate and then go to empty and remain there. Also, ignition switch began overheating, burning the insulation around the a/c wiring attached to the steering column. In addition, throttle position sensor , with heat on, would jump to 3000-4000 rpms.

The contact owns a 1995 dodge ram 2500.the contact noticed that the ignition switch below the steering column burned.therewas a closed investigation , ea99027 and recall # 00v135000 relating to this failure.the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified.the current and failure mileages were 120,000.

Fuel gauge reading is inaccurately.

The fuel guage has been replaced in my truck twice and still doesn't work(it reads empty all of the time) the fuel warning light is always on also.my father has a 1997 dodge pickup with the same problem, also a good friend of ours has a 1995 dodge pickup with the exact same problem.to say the least we're all fed up with it.

Fuel sensor fluttered between half to empty, then went empty, and it happened a second time, again same hing, we have not replaced it yet, because you have to drop the tank.the equipment is faulty as least, don't know how it survived in diesel, no reading on fuel in tank, dangeous if you don't keep milege/fillup, could cause serious accident on interstate if you ran out and didn''t know what was happening at first.

Fuel sensor will fluctuate and then go to empty and remain there. Also, ignition switch began overheating, burning the insulation around the a/c wiring attached to the steering column. In addition, throttle position sensor , with heat on, would jump to 3000-4000 rpms.

Transmission will not go past third gear until truck has been driven at least 10 miles, happens during cold months. Cj

Overdrive switch pops out occasinally causing speed to go from 60 to 40 mph. Cj

Transmission has always had problems.rebuilt once 1 year before total failure.dodge dealer admits that it should not have happened, but when they contacted dodge corp, they would not reimburse for any part of the cost.transmissions do not completely fail that early, especially since it had been serviced 11 months before failure.this transmission is obviously defective and in going into other web sights ( lemon-aid) we find we are not the only ones this happened to. Something needs to be done to make dodge admit there's a problem, and reimburse us and others who had to pay $4000.00 to replace a transmission at such an early stage.

(1) transmission pan or filler base leaks fluid; dealer repaired 4 times - still leaks.(2) sun visor swivel becomes loose. Visor swings freely during turns. Dealer replaced once, new one developed same problem.(3) transmission occasionally switches out of overdrive (including illumination of o/d off lamp), usually at freeway speeds.

Second transmission for consumer to replace, 2 transmissions replaced by previous owner. Transmision shop said they will not warranty transmission. It would not last more than 12000 miles. Consumer contacted dodge, who after first phone call "red flagged" consumer and said his case was closed.

The automatic transmission hangs in gear, causing the vehicle to have constant acceleration even when brakes are applied.tt

While driving at 45 mphtransmission went out due to a clip that holds the coolant blew out.

The main problem with this complaint is that with the cummins diesel ther is a lot of vibration from the engine, thus caussing the transmission line to viberate, so much as to cause the brass fitting on the pressure side to break thus causing the fluid to escape from the trans. This does not make for long life of the automatic trans. Chrysler has been told of this problem ,and has admitted this by creating an upgraded part which has a provission built in that allows flexing , therefore eliminating vibration, ( a short piece of flexible hose) no vibration ,no broken fittings, no broken fittings, no worn out transmission. You cant run automatic transmissions low on oil with-out severe outcomes. Chrysler does know about this problem that is why they have designed the new flexible hose in the transmission line , there needs to be a re-call to fix this problem

When vehicle is put into gear, it will not move then when you give it gas, it lurches forward.

Automatic transmission failed. Consumerreceived recall report, however gm reported no knowledge of recall.

Transmission lines are leaking because ofdefective fittings. Dodge is aware of problem because of recall campaign # 97v084000. But, recall only concerns gas engines and not diesel. The transmission lines are rusting due to inferior quality of original parts.

While driving transmission line fell off, fluid was leaking out.tt

The transmission lines broke due to the vibration of the vehicle causing fluid to leak.please provide further details.

I was driving my truck in city, normal driving conditions, and the transmission was shifting late, and i also noticed a smell of burnt fluid.i got out and noticed tranny fluid leaking all over the ground and on the exhaust.i got under the truck and noticed that the transmission fluid cooler line was leaking fluid at the connector, on the tranny side.it was shooting fluid onto the exhaust and leaking onto the ground.i checked the fluid and smoke was coming out of the tranny dipstick tube as well.

Tramission cooler lines failed at plastic quick disconnect, throwing transmission fluidout. Could not be replaced, because no parts were available. Dealership had to install new designed lines, costing owner $872.72.

The fittings that connect into the transmission oil cooling lines are plastic, the oil overheated while driving, causing the fittings to bust, and resulting intransmissionfluidleaking all over the exhaust system. Dealer has been contacted.

The quick connect on the transmission cooling has melted 4 times. The manufacture/dealer were notify about the problem. Dealer not able to correct free of charge. Recall on the gasoline engine, but not for diesel engines.

Defect with the automatic cooler lines. When engine gets warm transmission fluid leaks onto exhaust manifold.consumer stated incident has occured 8 times.*mr

My automatic transmission cooling line on the pressure side has sprung a major leak.it would appear to be the same as and be covered by your campaign number 97v084000.chrysler tells me that my truck is not affected.if not, i don't understand why.is there any way to obtain an official list of the vehicles affected?

Two transmission steel lines replaced, lines rubbed against each other and caused a hole in line and loss of transmission fluid.cj

Consumer stated that the transmission fluid cooler line disconnected from the transmission spewing coolant all over engine.transmission ulitmately failed.incident almost caused a fire. Ts

While driving transmission fluid poured out of vehicle onto the road, and causedvehicle to smoke. Thiswasdue to the retaining clip coming loose. Dealer has seen.

While driving 50 mph transmission line blewout, dealer replaced transmission line. This happened again on 12 aug 2001.

Consumerstates that dodge ram had her stranded in the mountains for 3 days, before being rescued the plastic reainier in the transmission cooler pressure line quick connect fitting hose melted and sprayed fluid all over engine . The engine began to smoke and she thought it was going to catch on fire. She called the manufacturer for help but because itwas not a recall she wouldnot receive any help in getting it repaired.

My background and training is in metallurgical & materials engineering.upon repair of the transfer case the service technician discovered the failure was from the mainshaft retaining ring which failed.i inspected this retaining ring and noted the failure as a fatigue failure which cracked through 80% of the component material before final fracture. I have a long history of reporting serious major safety component problems and failures to chrysler on both of my vehicles.my vehicles have been in three accidents resulting from failed safety components.each time after the accident, the dealer was able to find the problem and correct it.however, this has never happened before the accident.in the case of the brake line failure it involves every 1195 br2500 hd pickup truck.chrysler found and corrected the problem at some point because the replacement part is designed to reduce the bends which cause the line to rub against the wheel rim on turns.i have experienced thousands of dollars in damages that were caused by chrysler.how do i get my money back?

Attn frank borris.upon pushing throttle to wot the cable stuck. I noticed the pedal wouldn't return at about 35 mph. I reached 80-90mph before hitting the brakes. At 40 mph i put the engine in neutral and turned the ignition off. I lost steering and my power brakes and went into a ditch. I suffered no injuries and my truck suffered no serious damage. I managed to free the cable and return to home with caution and low throttle. I replaced the cable (which dodge had in stock). When i took the old one out i noticed the cable frayed inside the sheath. I had noticed prior to this incident (thanks to the other members of the tdr) the cable started to fray near the ball cup at the end. I cut off a broken strand at the ball cup.i couldn't notice the broken strands in the sheath at that time. I'm sending the cable (via frank borris) for your further investigation.

I had to pull over very quickly on the freeway today in a very dangerous scenario with semi trucks coming up behind me.twice i have taken it to mechanics that have replaced the track bar and the steering damper. It is a recurring problem even when you take preventative measures.i am afraid to drive the vehicle. It was extremely dangerous today.
