The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.while driving 35 mph, the air bag light illuminated on the instrument control panel.the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was informed that it was experiencing symptoms similar to the ones described in nhtsa campaign id number 01v153000 (air bags).the mechanic advised him to take his vehicle to the local dealer.the dealer stated that his vin was not included in the recall and all repairs would be made at the contact's expense.the vehicle is currently at the dealer for diagnosis.the failure mileage was 95,000 and current mileage was 111,000.
Consumer was in an accident air bags didn't deploy upon impact.*ph
Traveling 30 mph on city street, when small 2003 toyota 4wd pickup pulled out in front of me. I hit his drivers tire in middle of my grill.the airbags did not deploy.the seat belt locked and kept me from being seriously injured. The driver was cited by the police.my vehicle is totalled.please see pictures. It has never been in an accident before.
Our seat belts locked up on our 1999 dodge ram 1500. Took our dodge truck to dodge dealership 06/05/2017 who said our seat belt control module had gone out. We paid $400 to replace. Pickup on 06/26/2017.3 days later 06/29/2017 while towing our 20 ft north river boat across charleston harbor bridge on the down hill side to port launch ramp our vehicle power shut down, seat belts locked up again and our boat weight pushed hitch into our truck destroying the hitch and wheel jack. The boat had to be towed ( $399) to be repaired and $150. In hitch repairs. The truck itself would not start until the battery negative wire was removed. Vehicle was driven directly to dealership about 5 miles away. A local police officer was following behind our vehicle and stopped to help; calling a tow truck. No report was filed or required. After a 2 wk delaythey could not find a replacement module saying they were discontinued. Admitted they had installed a module ( not a seat belt module supposedly by mechanics error) requested our money back which they did 07/14/2017. We have been searching unsuccessfully online and other sources which say they are discontinued, not available. Our state and city law carries a $250 dollar fine for no seat belt use more importantly we our now subjectto extreme possibility of death or maiming in an accident. According to some information this also affects our air bags which may cause failure of them. We have been told our insurance is null and void if we don't have seat belts and even if we could get a mechanic to do a work around ( which they refused due to the liability issues) insurance still void. In case of our death or injury there will be a lawsuit against dodge. It won't do us much good! this is not acceptable. Dodge should be forced to providea law required seat belt module repair. How many people will die before they fix the problem?
The dashboard on my truck has broken into many pieces. These pieces have fallen into the passenger side airbag. If these pieces were to be expelled in the event of an airbag deployment, severe injury could result from flying shrapnel. This problem is very prevalent in dodge ram trucks. Something must be done. Owners should not be required to pay an average of $750 to repair an obvious defect in materials. I personally know 4 people in my town with the exact problem. There are hundreds of complaints that owners have posted online. This dangerous condition must be remediated.
I was traveling at 30mph when another vehicle turned head on into my vehicle.other vehicle was traveling at 10-15 mph.no safety defect mentione din summary.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.while driving 50 mph, the contact rear ended another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy.the vehicle was destroyed.a police report was filed.the occupant of the other vehicle stated that her neck was hurting and the contact's insurance company issued a settlement.the current and failure mileages were 175,000.
While appempting to stop the brakes did not stop the vehicle (vehicle has anti-lock brakes on rear wheels only), the seat belt did not hold the passenger causing him to move forward and hit both knees on the dash, the seat belt grabbed yanking passenger back into door and the passenger hit head on the window, air bags also failed to deploy. While traveling at 35 mph another vehicle ran a stop sign.consumer lostcontrol of vehicle and landed in a ditch. Upon impact, none of theairbags deployed.
The air bag warning light stays on all the time.the dash cracked and pieces fell into the electrical systems.the ball joints failed.all around 120,000 to 130,000 miles. The fuel injectors began to fail at 120,000 miles.
1.no specific even lead up to the failure.the item in question has broken on it's own.2.the dashboard has broken in two different places.one of the large cracks is directly over the passenger airbag which is concerning as airbag deployment could cause the entire dashboard to shatter resulting in a higher injury rate to the front passenger.3.after doing research and determining that numerous owners of the dodge ram pick-up are having the same exact issue i contacted chrysler to look into replacing the dashboard.currently waiting for their response.
Driving along highway 70 near quicny ca. When right rear axle broke sending the vehicle into the road embankment over turning the vehicle onto its roof, then flipping it again onto the remaining three wheels. The vehicle had front impact and the air bags did not deploy.
There is a clunking noise whenturning right or left. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealerstatedthere wasrecall 01v153000concerning clock spring assembly; however, consumer's vehicle was not included.please provide any further information.
Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 20 mph, with prior braking, the vehicle struck a tree.when this occurred, the airbags did not deploy.the front center of the vehicle was damaged and the vehicle was towed to a salvage yard.there was a police report taken at the scene.although the seat belt was worn, the driver sustained a fractured neck.the manufacturer sent a representative who determined based on the speed and damage, the airbags should not have deployed.the insurance company deemed the vehicle totaled.
Driver side airbag warning light comes on and alarm sounds.dealer changed the clock spring.

I bought a 1999 dodge ram quad cab brand new in milton fl. The truck currently has 76000 miles and the complete dash assy has broken and cracked into a dozen pieces for no apparent reason. This has become a serious air-bag/ fod hazard if it needs to deploy and could cause injury or even death.dealers and manufacturer refuse to recognize and repair the defected dashes.
1999 dodge ram 1500 busted dash.my concern is the air bag deployment.the dash is so busted up that i'm worry what will happen if i'm ever in an accident.if the air bags come out will all the sharp pieces of the dash fly out and hit me.those pieces are really sharp and i fell like they could do just as much damage to someone as being in a wreck.the busted dash is such a safety hazard.the wiring is also exposed and that along creates a safety hazard.i have two children, i would hate for one of them to get hurt just because dodge will not do a recall.i'm not sure of their reason for not doing it, but in this economy, they are loosing business fast due to their lack of responsibility.
1).we were driving along when the truck,we just got suddenly died. The gas gauge showed 1/4 of a tank. It is a single tank truck, butit was out of gas. When more was added it started up and ran. 2). A heavy rain fell , my sons carseat (latched in the back seat of the quad cab) was so wet the next day i had to wash and dry the padding before it could be used. The windowswere shut, locked tight and parked all night. 3). My husband was coming from work a drunk driver suddenly pulled in front of him. Trying everything to stop my husbands truck hit his. The air bags (none of them) went off! they were "on" at the time of impact. My husband was going around45miles per hour.4).as my husband started to work the truck suddenly over revved anddied. It was said the transmission went out. It was later found it was a sensor went out. New sensor fixed it for about a day and a half. 5). Truck shifted funny, lost all oil pressure, and died the motor failed. When it was opened upthe cylinder walls were not assembled right at the factory it is a surprise it even made it to 87 thousand miles in the first place. The xxx wall pattern was highly visible and never worn smooth as it should have if it were running properly from the start. Some of the pieces are "missing" also in this motor others are improperly aligned.when he called the dealership it was out of businessand the dodge company says you bought it you got it . Not even 90 thousand miles on it . Now we are stuck with the financial burden of paying for my car payment( as to shuffle the kids around), his replacement car (as to get to work 30+ miles away), and this pile of mistakesin a shell that is suppose to be his truck .this does not even mention theburden of the cost we are suffering fromto re build this thing to working order again . To make matters worse;this is just the stuffhe has told me about so far, more is being found wrong every time he checks in onit.
1999 dodge ram dash cracking which could lead to failure of electricalsafety functions such as air bags, headlights and windshield wipers.dodge and dodge dealerships are aware of this problem due to thetremendous number of complaints. Reports of large chunks falling intoelectrical wiring.
Typical problems with cracked plastic dashboard on 1999 dodge ram pickups (2)combined with failure of airbags to deploy.both seem to be epidemic in proportion, unfortunately have experienced both.dash is not safe with cracked, jagged plastic edges waiting to impale or slice you, assuming that flying peices wouldnt do even more harm if airbag had gone off.same problem in dash on two personal vehicles, now reluctant to go anywhere in one that wasnt wrecked because airbag probably wont work in it either if something were to happen.i know mine isnt the only one, whover has controlling interest of dodge this month needs to step up and address these issues.ridiculous to think of replacing dash for $800 - 1200 with a part of no better integritythan the one it already had. More ridiculous is the fact they know the airbags failures are an issue on these trucks for years now and have done nothing to remedy the problem.it shouldnt be up to the customer to worry about these two critical safety items .i spent a majority of my working life in the dodge business, have seen it from all angles, now as the irate and disguted owner of two vehicles that leave me with no desire to own/operate.
Dashboard has broken apart and completely caved in leaving exposed wiring and turned broken pieces into projectiles if the air bag was to deploy. This should be a safety related defect due to the fact that it poses a risk to motor vehicle safety and exists in a group of vehicles of the same design and manufacture. Because it is a critical vehicle component that has broken, fallen apart, and separated from the vehicle, it could cause injury to persons inside of the vehicle.i am not the only person with this problem and if you do a little research online (www.carcomplaints.com)you will see how widespread the problem actually is. Dodge should be ashamed of themselves for not already recalling all trucks with this problem at no charge to their loyal customers.
While traveling at approximately 25 mph consumer's vehiclebroadsided another vehicle that pulled out in front of his vehicle. Frontal air bags failed to deploy, andconsumersustainedback pains. While driving the vehicle completely shuts down without warning, causing loss of steering control and brake failure, which resulted in a collision in which the air bags did not deploy.electrical system failure caused accident. Chrysler refuses to find the problem or provide a replacement vehicle, as does dealer.*ml
We have a 1999 dodge ram ext cab and the dash cracked and we were told it was not a issue but after reading online i am seeing that several people have had the same issue.i feel that it could be dangerous if the air bag deploys for not only myself but my children.
While driving about 35-40mphvehicle slipped on ice andfront driver's side hit a tree.neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed.chrysler said it was not hit inright spot.2 people were injured in accdient, vehicle was pulling a trailer with 2 snowmobiles which hit the back of the vehicle upon impact.

Driver's air bag deployed while driving.
I have a 1999 dodge ram pickup that has a defective dashboard.not long after my warranty expired, the dash began cracking.what seemed cosmetic initially has begun to worry me.i am concerned for my safety as well as my children.the dash is in pieces and if you touch it, it gets worse.will this potentially cause a problem with the airbag and what will dodge say at that point?the local dodge dealer will sell me the part but after reading 1000's of online complaints regarding this issue, i am just not ready to buy any other dodge vehicles or equipment.this is a very costly repair that i believe is also potentially very dangerous.the dash has disintegrated into several pieces and i believe it is due to substandard manufacturing.
Consumerwas in an accident, andair bags did not deploy.
Consumer rear ended a school bus at approximately 25-30 mph, and the air bags did not deploy.consumer 's leg was injured.
Rear ended another truck at approximately 40-50 mph. Neither frontal airbags deployed. All damage was to front of truck. Driver sustained injury to face due to hitting the steering wheel.
During a vehicle crashdriver's airbag did not deploy.
The vehicle driven at 30mph, hit a very high cement step (wall) and then continued on to ram a steel railing.after the vehicle hit the railing it was thrown backwards all while the tires were stilling spinning forward.the driver/owner broke his front teeth on the steering wheel and hit his head on the windowshield.air bags failed to deploy.
The vehicle hit a tree and bent the bumper in the center and pushed it back into the engine the air bag should have deployed upon impact. We feel this is a manufacturing defect.
Consumer's vehicle while traveling 30 mph was involved in an accident with a truck and neither air bag deployed. He and his wife sustained injuries. *jg
While driving 50 mph rear ended another vehicle andair bags did not deploy, consumer was unable to reach the manufacturer.*nlm
The dash on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 4 x4 has cracked in three spots.the crack runs from the windshield side of the dash all the way to the bottom of the dash.the truck has not been in any crashes that would result in this type of crack.i am concerned these cracks will intervere with the operation of the passenger side air bag as one of the cracks runs over the holder.
Air bagsfailed to deploy when involved in a head-on collision while traveling at approximately 25 mph.please provide any additional information/attachments.
No deployment of both frontal airbags during collision, two injuries during collision. *mjs
The dash in my dodge ram 1500 truck began with a hairline crack at about 40,000 miles.i began by taking it to the dodge dealer, who said the regional service manager would call me.no one ever called back.since then, the dash as literally fallen apart.the immediate safety issues are (1) the air bag and its ability to deploy, and (2) pieces of the dash flying apart and into occupants in the event of a motor vehicle accident.i have emailed chrysler; after chrysler's 2nd reply, no one would respond via email.i have called chrysler's toll free customer support phone line.i spoke with a very young and adamant young man, who refused to budge on the reply i obtained via email.he eventually terminated the converstation by hanging up on me.neither party (email or toll free support line) were interested in actually seeing digital photos of the problem.the phone support rep, when told of my safety concerns, simply responded that if i thought it was such a big deal that i should go ahead and replace the dash myself.some answer!i did stop by the dealer (again) this afternoon and gave me a piece of the dash in the erstwhile hope that the new service manager will begin to work this problem.please help.i am very frustrated and quite surprised at the total lack of chrysler customer care.i can afford to replace the dash at my expense (luckily), but am torn because of chrysler's refusal to "do the right thing" and replace this unsafe defective part.what do you suggest i do?if you want the digital photos, i can send these as well.
The vehicle was involved in an accident in which the vehicle rolled onto the roof and slid about 20 feet.neither of the frontal air bags deployed. *nlm

While on a gravel road itwas not raining, vehicle swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and hit two trees, and went in a ditch, upon impact, neither airbag deployed.
I bought this 1999 dodge ram in 2002 with about 40,000 miles on it. I now have 79,000. Shortly after purchase, the dash cracked. After about 10 cracks across the top of the dash in every horizontal direction. I went to the "5 star" local dodge dealer and showed them the problem. They said that they had never heard of the problem and estimated $1500 to repair. Until now, i thought that i was the only one with the problem and assumed that this certainly wasn't a widespread problem that may be in line for a class action lawsuit. I ordered a custom fit mat to put over the cracks. The cracks have continued and are now going vertical on the instrument panel bezel. There are probable 15 cracks in all. In addition, the glove compartment plastic door frame hinge pin (part of the dash) broke off on the lower left side. I epoxied in a piece of wood dowel rod to make the glove box door work. Seems like the dash falling apart would set off the air bag or short the wiring to cause unsafe operational problem such as a fire. If the air bag deploys with a fragmented dash, will the sharp fragments become missiles that could injure or kill the driver or passenger? this appears to be a really unsafe condition. There are hundreds of complaints about this on the internet. Can you help put the pressure on dodge for a recall to replace our dashes?
Consumer was traveling about 50mph, and another vehicle cut consumer off to make a u-turn.other vehicle stopped dead in front & caused consumer to rearend it. Upon impact, front airbags didn't deploy. Delaership will be contacted.
While driving 45 mph in the rain the consumer lost control of the vehicle which caused the vehicle to veer off the road and hit a tree.the driver's air bag did not deploy.
While driving 50-55 mph, vehicle was involved in an accident when another motorist failed to yield, driver side air bag failed to deploy.passenger air bag was off.consumers vehicle totaled.manufacturer notified.
Driver was in a single vehicle accident his 1999 dodge ram 1500 heading north bound on 4 lane rural road way (401 n).the vehicle departed right side of the roadway in avoidance of debris and a stopped vehicle in the road.vehicle sustained initial impact to the front left area resulting in substantial crush. As a result of this impact the passenger side airbag deployed but the driver side did not.this put the driver at unnecessary risk of chest trauma. Driver sustained overall injury.

1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup has electrical problems with headlights. When switching from high beams to low beams. The high beams go off but the low beams do not come back on. I have had two dodge dealers plus another garage look into fixing this problem. Both dodge dealers say they could not verify my complaint. The last dodge dealer performed another electrical wiring trace diag and claims all circuit operating as designed. Yet they continue guessing at what might cause the problem and charge me for replacing parts they cannot verify where ever bad or even causing the failure of the low beams to come back on. The normal event is that when an oncoming vehicle is coming at me and i need to turn off the high beams. The high beams are turned off without any low beams coming on. This creates an immediate threat to life and property of both autos operating on the same section of roadway. This problem currently has been going on for about two months. After this second dodge dealer charged me for replacing another switch (another guess by their mech). It took me less than 30 seconds to show a witness driving with me what the problem is as the low beams failed to come on after only three attempts of switching high beams to low beams. Yet dodge dealers still says everything is working as designed.there is clearly a defect here in design. To date it has not resulted in a crash but there is no telling when the low beams will fail to come on when driving and they are needed. The first time i had this problems was at mileage 77,439 back on 11/08/05. The problem seems to clear up after the first dodge dealer had replaced the multi-function switch. But now the problem is back again. So the second dodge dealer did not feel this switch would of gone bad again after just 37,000 miles of use on this switch.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.while the contact was examining his vehicle, he noticed that the dashboard was completely falling apart.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the entire dashboard needed to be replaced.in addition, the instrument panel lights would not operate correctly.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 99,000 and failure mileage was 97,000.
1999 dodge laramie 1500 quad 4x4. Dash has cracked and broke into pieces and fallen into dash wiring harnesses. Currently has only affected the front speakers. Concerns about the airbag and headlamp wires located in the same area.
I recently took my 1999 dodge ram 1500 pick up to my alignment shop and had to put a new tracker bar on it. Which i replaced about 8 months ago at about 40 thousand miles.. And nowi have to replace my steering box and my truck has just over 54,100 miles on it and i think that is a little ridiculous. Ever since i bought my truck new in 1999 i have had to have the front end aligned in the first year, the second year, in the year 2002 and now on march 3 rd 2003 i had to have it again for the reasons i stated in the beginning. Ihad some electrical problems under the dash and in the steering column. My alignment shop says they have replaced a lot of steering boxes and the tracker bar even at 18,000 miles. I have called chrysler themselves and they won't do anything about it and i think they should because i believe that it is a result from a bad part from the factory. I have documented everything i have done to my truck. I have looked into the price of a new steering box and i have found that dodge wants over $600 and a parts house in my town can get the same dodge steering box for $205. I believe that i should not have to pay for the box what ever the price, because i believe it is new enough that they should be willing to have it fixed, to at least make a customer some what happy. I have never heard of a steering box going out at less then 100,000 miles. My father had a 1999 ram 1500 pick up and with less than 25,000 miles the motor lost 4 quarts of oil on our way to a old car show in montana but it never happened again so he did not worry about it and sold it and got a new 2002 ram pick up and he likes it so far, but a friend of mine has a 2002 ram and he is having a problem with his front end alignment. So i am wondering if there are other people having similar problems with their front ends on dodge vehicles.
Vehicle stalls intermittently, 2 to 5 times a week, loses power steering, power brakes, rpm, other dashboard indicators, the odometer readout displays "nobus".this is dangerous because if there is no shoulder, you are stopped on the road.to restart the vehicle, the driver side wiring harness on the computer (which is on the passenger side engine wall) is pulled and replaced without turning off the key, a noise occurs like an electrical connection .is being made, then the vehicle can usually be restarted.sometimes then there is a check engine light on, or not!the dealers and my local mechanic do not know what the problem is but the potential must be known since it sends the "nobus" message.
The heater in my dodge 1999 ram 1500 4x4 caught fire and burned the cab and engine compartment completely.
99 ram 1500 caught fire while running heater! cause of the fire is the defective dash material falling apart and the insulation fell onto the resistor located on top of the blower motor causing a interior fire. This was confirmed by myself a mechanic for over 30 years and a certified paint and body shop. Truck was in mint condition and now a total loss. The truck was in a stationary position in a college parking lot!contacted manufactuer only reply was sorry for your loss. I know of several other vehicles in a 5 mile radius same make and model that the same thing happened too.
Entire dash is cracking and falling apart.chunks are getting into electrical wiring harness and may cause safety malfunction. Front window defroster not able to work correctly causing visual impairment.i am a ph.d. Polymer chemist and this is obvious safety - manufacturing defect
The contact owns 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, smoke emitted from the dashboard without warning as flames ignited from underneath the glove compartment. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I have a 1999 dodge 1500 quad cab truck and bought it brand new in 1999.this past year my dash board started cracking and then just caved in.i am a single mom with four kids.this is my only transportation.i am now starting to have other issues with the electrical.this is a hazard to me and my kids.i promise someone will be sued if something happens to myself or my kids.dodge dealership does not call this a recall.something needs to be done.
Over the past year my dashboard has slowly self destruct. It started with a single crack, then another and another and another, to the point where it has literally collapsed. My a/c vents are effected as well as my radio is now starting to act up. I am in fear that with the intense arizona sun, my wiring may start to short out and cause a fire. I understand that this is a widespread problem. Can dodge be held accountable? i'm worried.
1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab - engine will quit at any moment, driving down the road at 55 mph, gives "nobus" code in odometer.have had vehicle in shop numerous times, dash cluster replaced, sensors replaced, etc, it still does it, very dangerous have quit driving truck.
The contact owned a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the engine, then there was smoke emitted in and around the vehicle causing a fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to the contacts residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Dt: 1999 dodge ram 1500ton 4 wheel drive pick up,25000 miles onthe truck.while driving truck stalled and all lights on the dashboard came on.pulled off to the side, sat a couple minutes, and the truck started back up.this problem recurred. This time it took about 5 minutes to restart. Next day tookvehicle to dealer, they keptit for 2 days, could not find anything wrong with the truck.said could have resulted from bad gas or vapor lock.took vehicle home, and this happen again.took back to dealer, still could not find anything wrong.third time this happened consumerwas driving on the freeway and the truck just quiet running.would not start back up.did get the truck off the road and coasted off an exit.took over half hour before it started back up.took back too dealer, they kept the truck for several days.the dealer found it was the computer.the mechanic did a wiggle test and found problemand fixed it.
Dash board collapsed causing electrical problems on 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup.
1999 dodge ram 1500 truck with small v8 and 135,000 miles.engine stops running with no warning.odometer displays "no dc buss" sometimes code 920 and 921 appear.dealer in maysville, ky 41056 replaced pcm unit.dealer cannot id the fault codes.engine still stops without warning.after towing the truck to the shop several times over a year and a half, the dealer recommends wiggling wires on the pcm plug. Wiggling the wires will permit engine restart but, it is not acceptable to have the engine die in traffic or to open the hood and play with it in the middle of the road. The engine dies often-multiple times on a short drive across town. The truck is not fit for use on roads without an emergency shoulder since it will die every time it is driven. Often the engine will not start when cold (several days since last use) until the wires are wiggled. Therefore, the problem is not due to heat. This problem is all over the internet on the ram 1500 and durango.

The dashboard started cracking. That is a seperate failure. The next failure is when going over any bumps in the road, the dashboard lights, rpms, guages, bells cuts off and if you happen to turn the vehicle off, it will not restart. It is not corrected and after contacting chrystler, they opted to do nothing towards the repair.

This problem with the power seat is very unsafe and it is a good thing that i'm am somewhat mechanically incline and thought to pull the fuse out just as i could see the smoke and the white harness under the seat was red just ready to ignite so just picture if it would have been someone that is not m.incline and would not think of pulling the fuse i guarantee a fire would break out under the driver seat...i am very unhappy with this because this could have been my wife and 3year old son driving in the truck alone and i guarantee that she would not have thought to pull the fuse out or this could happen to someone else that has the same truck...also i have not take the truck in to the dodge dealer yet because i can't afford a big repair bill ...this is a big safety hazard and i think there should be a recall.

The dashboard module has been replaced two times and is still experiencing failure causing the dashboard gauges to malfunction, the wiring harness is experiencing failure.*mjs

Am on third engine each time oil pump failed, and now this one is acting up, powertrain end of year built truck has a lot of 2000 parts on it, rear end seized up drive shaft broke rear yoak split in two, suspension tie rods and idle arms always breaking, two break disks 1 left side 1 right side broke, left one split right down the middle, the right side the center of the hub broke right out at the bearings riped right out
The intake manifold cracked and coolant went inside the engine.dealer has repaired three times and still recurring the problem.
I own a 1999 dodge ram regular truck with short bed and it accelerated while i was driving on a highway. At first i thought i hit the cruise control by mistake, but i checked and cruise the light was off. It engine kept ramming and hitting high speeds and i could not stop the vehicle and i almost crashed into other cars.i managed to pull off at an exit and put on the brakes as hard as i could, but it did not stop the truck. Eventually, i had to put the car in park while driving. Eventually the car stopped and i immediately turned off the engine.my mother (who was visiting me and haven't seen in 5 years) was frightened. And so was i. I checked the coolant and it had ran out. It was just checked a few weeks ago. I had it rechecked and it had no leaks.anyway, i eventually walked to a gas station and bought more coolant (figuring this had to be the problem). It did not help the situation immediately. I waited for 30 minutes and tried starting the car once more and it was okay and i drove off.i called the dodge dealership and they told me to bring it in.will it cost me if the problem is under recall?
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle finally restarted after several attempts.prior to the failure, the oxygen sensors and temperature gauge were replaced.the contact called the dealer again and they attempted to schedule an appointment for a diagnostic.the failure and current mileages were 59,800.
While driving the vehicle madenoise.consumer pulled over, and had the vehicle towed, the failure was due toengineblowing out.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The stated that he had to replace the water pump due to leakage. Three years later the shaft bearing in the water pump failed, which caused the serpentine belts to break. Engine failure while driving increases the risk of vehicle crash. He speculates that the water pump housing has been sand glassed. He then added that the water pump material was aluminum, which eventually degrades and causes the failure. He replaced the water pump again but the repair was insufficient. The failure mileage 70,000. The current mileage is 147,000.
Purchased vehicle with 49,000 miles on it august 2002 since it has been back to the dealer a minumum of 7 times brakes wore out and in to the drums, check engine light on engine not running properly and 5 times for transmission problems not one time has the vehicle been repaired other than for brakes which i had to threaten with a complaint to the state police because of having a new inspection sticker on the vehicle iam still having problems with transmission was told needed a new unit now since out of warranty even though i have documentation it was having problems be fore warranty ran out; now i was told that the performance and runnibility and oil consumption problem is due to a intake gasket failure. A real piece of quality junk dodge is putting out. Maybe thats why they went away from their 7/70000 mile warranty on these models.*la
Engine failure, 1999 dodge 5.2 liter v8. Purchased used vehicle with 75,000 original miles in 2003. Truck in very nice condition, and well maintained. Last week on a daily drive it seems a coonecting rod snapped and blew through the oil pan. The engine is now garbage. I previously owned a 1987 dodge ram pick-up and regretfully sold it with a mere 175,000 mile on it. That truck would run rings around the "new ram tough" junker sitting in my driveway. I would request dodge to give me a more dependable engine, like the one in my 1987. I don't need the "sweet" glitz associated with their new technology.
Soft metal around pistons caused engine to fail and i had to replace the engine.

Updated 2/22/2007 - both front seat belt were locked in the retracted position and could not be used.the seat belt light is illuminated on the dash.the water pump has been replaced.the air conditioning has been replaced.the brake lines have been replaced.the rear end has been replaced.the driver's side window would not roll down.
Chrysler corp factory installed an odd, defective a/c compressor unit with a housing that disintegrated, creating a large hole and spread metal particles throughout the system. Because this part was one of only a few odd ones installed, a new one had to be purchased at the dodge dealership at a cost of $700, which is more than 3 times cost of part installed in majority of vehicles that year. An additional $632 had to be paid to the dodge dealership to clear the system of metal debris and replace parts damaged. I consider their deceiving the consumer by putting in odd, poor quality (and expensive to replace) parts without disclosing it, fraudulent and dishonest. When a vehicle is made, the parts installed should be the same from the first one off the assembly to the very last one, so that the cost to replace is fair and affordable to the buyer. I have sent documentation, pictures, and receipts and requested reimbursement (which they have refused to do) of the costs i have incurred because of their fraudulent practices when concerned about making more profit. Appreciate your assistance with this matter. Thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Poor workmanshipat 58,000 miles my personal (not used for hauling) use 1999 dodge ram pickup had the water pump, radiator, front brake rotors, evaporatorfail. Cost over $3000.00.
I bought a 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup with a 5.2 liter engine from swift dodge in davis, ca in december of 1998. The first day, i noticed that it had a spark knock or ping when accelerating up the slightest grade. With the air conditioner on or when pulling a small trailer, the knock was worse. I complained about it everytime i took my truck in for service at the dealership. The manifold gasket was replaced twice by the deaer, and i was told that would fix it. It didn't. I've had the truck in for service at swift dodge approximately 13 times over the past 4+ years, each time complaining of the spark knock. Sometimes they have said they can't hear it, sometimes they just put me off, and sometimes they changed the manifold gasket. Now, i'm told - at 129,000 miles - that the gasket has failed again and that the cylinder heads need to be replaced as well, all for the price of $2,000+. I've called chrysler to no avail. I have one complaint on record with them from april 2001. There are 2 technical service bulletins out on this very problem. Apparently the fix is only temporary, and when the truck is past its warranty, the consumer pays. It's not fair that a chronic design problem isn't definitively remedied by the manufacturer under warranty. If all companies included design flaws in every product that the consumer would eventually be charged for, companies could enjoy a steady stream of after-warranty income. That's what's happened here. By the way, the web is full of customer complaints and threats of class-action suits for this very problem with 1999 dodge pickups and durangos. I don't know if there is any legal recourse, but i'm lodging my legitimate complaint anyway.yours truly, dennis parker

I have owned two 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickups.one had a 5.9l and one had a 5.2l.both vehicles experienced a failure of the ventilation servo (switches cold-warm-hot air mix) and both experience cracked heads.all occurrences happened between 90,000 miles and 100,000 miles.as for the cracked heads neither vehicle had ever overheated, and had always actually run fairly cool.
While driving the vehicle completely shuts down without warning, causing loss of steering control and brake failure, which resulted in a collision in which the air bags did not deploy.electrical system failure caused accident. Chrysler refuses to find the problem or provide a replacement vehicle, as does dealer.*ml
The vehicle emmits a smell inside the vehilce which makes the occupants ill (dizzy and vomitting), the dealer replaced the catalytic converter but the smell persist.nlm
While hauling approx. 4000lbs horse trailer, the vehicle lost power and i was barely able to keep the truck traveling at 20mph.i took it in for service and it was determined that the catalytic converter had failed, resulting in ablockage of the exhaust system.apparently, chrysler had recalled 1.9 million of these catalytic converters because of the exact problem, but after i contacted chrysler, they said my vin was not part of the recall.i spent over $800 to replace miscellaneous exhaust components as a result of this failure.

Occasionally while drive the lights will go out but come right back on.the truck is also equipped with steering wheel controls for the radio. The truck i just purchased when you are driving at night all of a sudden the headlights just go out. All you are left with are parking lights.
Several cracks all along dash board from window seal to front of airbag/vent sections, when i showed the dealer who i bought it from, they brushed me off like i was complaining of cosmetic damage. I consider these cracks a manufacturer defect that hold vital components if i or my passengers were ever in a wreck, my vehicle interior was in excellent condition when i bought it from the used lot in october 2001, i can't say the same for the mechanics. The first day i had to return it for the harmonic balancer, then the emerg brake light stayed on, then the abs brake light which lead to replacement of drums, rotors, and calipers. In feb 2003 i had to take it in for windshield wiper motor burn out, and this last month the waterpump went out. Can you advise me as to what is normal wear and tear and what parts aren't supposed to have to be replaced on a vehicle that now has 82,000 miles and regular upkeep? and if the sound of air blowing thru loose metal is what my truck should sound like when i accelerate from a normal stop? thank you for your time, amber.

The only thing i had was my parking lights and flashers.ipulled over and waited for the state police, since they did not come.i drove to work with my flashers on. The good newsis my luck did not run out i made it to work unharmed. In the morning i drove my truck homeand looked up the electrical system and found there is no fuses in this circuit.i spoke with my cousin who also has a ram and found out that he has gone through 3 switches. Would this be considered a safety hazard? if i had been driving on a winding road at night and the same thing had happened, i would be replacing my truck and not just the $75.00 dealer only switch.i know their are a lot of these trucks out there and to find out that there has been 4 switches replaced in just 2 trucks. Isn't this a little high. Also, the dealer has plenty of this on hand. Which to me means, this itemis a highly consumed item.
Gas mileage is lower than what was stated on sticker sale price andin the owner's manual ,resulting inbad gas mileage .consumer has contacted the dealer andmanufacturer. Please provide any further details.
After lunch at home i went to work, parked the truck and found out later the truck was on fire. The fire department could not determine cause. I was told that i has a recall of a possible fuel leak as the cause for the fire.

On january 28 2011, i purchased a 1999 dodge ram 1500 from honest ziggy's. There were little things that needed to be done, but that was okay with us. Then in february of 2011 i was going down the road and my driver's door came open. Come to find out we had to spend $400.00 on getting the driver's door fixed. We called ziggy's to let them know and they said that we bought it "as is". I thought before they put a vehicle up for sale they have to make sure that it is safe to be on the road. We had to replace the door hinges on the driver's side because they were so old and when the door would shut it was not lining up properly. It was like that for a long time because it started to crack. We had to go to a body shop to get it fixed. They had to cut out at least quarter of the door and replace it.ziggy's said that it was our problem and that they were not going to do anything. Ziggy told us that there was nothing wrong with it and that we caused the door to be like that. And when we confronted him about it he said that he did not know that there was anything wrong with it and he said that he mechanic looked at it also and said that there was nothing wrong with it.we need to find out what rights we have to make sure that this does not happen to anyone else. We took it for a test drive and noticed that the transmission was slipping and we told ziggy about it and he said that there was nothing wrong. We would like to know what can be done about this. We just don't have the money to dish out to fix this truck that he said was safe and to be working properly. We also want to know if there should have been at least a 30 day warranty with an "as is" vehicle. The vehicle is under my wife. She got it for me to back and forth to the doctors so we don't have to put much mileage on the other vehicle we have.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500. On this model as well as many other models the secondary hood latch was recalled for failing to work. Now my truck had been serviced but one day my hood flew open with such force it sprung both of the spring hinges, ripped the corners of my hood and bent them (now starting to rust), cracked my windshield and at one point i could not get the hood to latch shut so i now tie it down with twine. I was only doing about 25-30, just leaving a driveway. My daughter was scared (?@#^@ as was i) and when i called the dodge company everyone was nice except the insurance rep he really took the cake. He blamed me for the accident saying it was not the secondary hood latches fault but the primary and that i did not properly maintain it. I never got the chance to ask him what the (blank) do i pay for the dodge dealership to keep my vehicle maintained, which i never knew you had to maintain a hood latch? even so the secondary latch was the issue that never held even if the primary latch failed. I talked to my dealership and they were stunned at this, they said it was obvious the secondary hood latch failed and once recalled always recalled. I went as far as saying they did not have to do the $2500.00 worth of repairs (estimated by the dodge dealership) i just wanted the latch to work so i don't have to worry about it doing it again and to fix the springs so i do not have to be a body builder to open and shut my hood and to bend back the metal and touch up the paint so it don't rust. (its an older truck but doesn't have to look like crap or be a safety issue. I am really ticked off at dodge and wanted to alert you to my situation. How many others had this happen and got the same response? i may even go to a news station and plead my case there, that guy for dodge really ticked my off. Thank you for listening.

The emergency brake on my 1999 dodge ram has released on it's own on many occasions.this occurs on level ground or on a hill.my vehicle has a manual transmission. *nlm
Rear differential just fell off of the truck going down highway!smoke everywhere , i maintained composure and got off of the side of the highway.thankfully no one was injured as i was in the passing lane passing a semi when this happened.

My transmission seems to be slipping when going in and out of firts ans second gear. I have taken it to shops to have it diagnosed and keep getting a runaround. After alot of reading and speaking to machanics and dealers, they have all pointed to major problems with the transmission which the manufacturer should do something about. There are hundreds of cases about bad transmissions on these vehicles. Something has got to be done. I have another appointment this weekend for someone else to look at it. I dont know of any other options. It needs to be addressed, people are spending so much money on looking for fixes.
Automatic transmission slipping. Slips when hot at highway speeds. Slips going into gear when cold.

Automatic transmission failure - vehicle started to skip when shifting from 1st gear to second gear. Took it to the dealer and was told i was 200 miles out of warranty and they could not fix it under warranty (even though i had been having problems for a month before that and hadn't time to get in to get it looked at). Was told that other transmissions were also failing, but dodge would not do anything. I am a former chrysler employee, as is my father. Always been loyal to chrysler products, but after this, i can't tell enough people to buy foreign and not domestic - cheap quality and poor customer service. They sell you a vehicle and the problems are yours - too bad. Finally got some help from the chrysler corporate center michigan.first dealer said "passing cable was problem, then later on found transmission was fault. A rebuilt one was installed, and now that too is having problems. This vehicle is used only to go to and from work and around town. No heavy hauling, heavy towing (do haul push mower and hand trimmer, rake, etc) or any heavy driving. Truck is maintained on schedule - treated with care like a kid.

We purchased a 1999 dodge ram 1500 in october 1999.shortly after the warranty ran out, the transmission began 'chattering' and jerking periodically like we were driving over a 'rumble strip' on the highway.took the vehicle to the dealer many times and small adjustments were made.eventually when the problem could not be corrected and the 'jerking' became nearly continuous, we were told to take the pickup to a transmission shop.there the repairman told us that dodge pickups kept him in business.that 8 out of 10 of his transmission repair jobs were dodge pickups.the transmission was completely overhauled and we were given a one year warranty.shortly before the warranty was to again run out, the old trouble surfaced.adjustments were made which helped for a few months.the problem surfaced again and now we were told to take the pickup back to the dealer, that the problem must certainly be in the 'computer'.the dealer said we can put a new computer in the pickup but we can't guarantee that will fix the problem and, of course, we won't be able to refund your $400.00 purchase of a new computer if it doesn't solve the problem.our choice is, therefore, to continue to drive a malfunctioning dodge ram pickup whose transmission will sooner rather than later eventually fail, gamble $400.00 to see if the computer 'might' fix the problem or trade for another pickup (can't afford this option).we are fed up with dodge pickups and will likely never purchase from dodge again.we were a faithful dodge owner having had six prior dodge pickups. This pickup has had light duty, has been serviced on a regular basis and has not been abused in any manner.it should be running as good as new.we purchased a chevrolet lumina new in 1993.it has 204,000 miles on the odometer now and has had under $1,000 lifetime repair, needs no oil between changes and still runs great.we take care of our vehicles.
Vehicledownshifted by itself to 1st gear when driving at approx 60 mph , causing vehicle to slow down quickly, and almost get rearended.
Vehicle's braking system seemed not to be working properly, taking longer distances to stop. A check of equipment showed all mechanical parts to be fit, and adjusted correctly. Continued to drive vehicle but then had small accident involving braking while going downhill. At this time it was determined i had no brake lights. Diagnostics of the brake light problem determined the combination switch in the steering column was the culprit and had failed, causing loss of brake lights and failure of the transmission to go into coast mode when the brake pedal was applied. This also results in the cruise function to notcancel when brakes are applied. There is no indication of failure through the instrument cluster for this fault. This seems to be a regular problem, as this part is back ordered at the chrysler dealership. Because of the seriousness of this fault i feel it should be a safety recall, especially since there is no factory part available to repair the condition. My vehicle is still not repaired.
Bought truck in 1999 had transmission replaced in 2001, complained to dealer and manufacture was told by dealer that all dodges come out with transmission problems but dodge never changed trans.told by manufacture nothing they can do problems like this just happen sometimes.still having trans. The vehicles automatic shift malfunctioned, and diagnosis by the dealer incicated complete failure of the transmission also, the front pump, torque converter, intermediate shaft, over drive piston retainer and other components had failed.
I bought my truck in 1999 and had to replace the transmission a week ago.the mechanic who replaced it explained there is a defective valve in the transmission fluid line that sticks when driving on the highway denying the transmission fluid thereby burning it up.chrysler is aware of this defect but refuses to own up to the defect.they replaced my transmission with another defective transmission which i was told the day after installing the new transmission would need to be replaced again.i called chrysler to ask what they intend to do regarding not only owning up the defective valve but also what they were willing to do for me due to the inconvenience of having to not have my vehicle for a week until they can replace the transmission again, and was told they were willing to do nothing on either issue.

While drivingat 40 mph and coming tocomplete stop automatic transmission doesn't shift properly from the second gear to the thirdgear.
Transmission jumps (pops) out of first gear. Problem occurs when from a stop, you start to move forward ie; into a intersection, and transmission jumps (pops) out of gear. This problem is a major safety hazard due to the possibility of being hit by another vehicle due to transmission jumping out of gear.
Transmission: since i have purchased my truck late in 1999, the transmission hasn't worked properly. I took inearly on because when shifting from forward to reverse, there was this slapping noise. The dealer in joliet said that was a normal thing. Now some times when accelerating, the shifting seems somewhat sluggish. I know of a number of people who have dodge trucks with transmission problems. One has had it replaced twice and finally just this past summer traded for a gmc truck and the others still have theirs but are complaining of the same existing problems. When i do get another truck, i will not even consider a dodge, it will probably be a gmc or even a ford as much as i dislike fords. My 1999 truck has 62000 miles on it and sets in the garage most of the time.
Dt: problem occured on may 1 2005. A child climbed into vehcile and moved the gear shift and the vehicle rolled. Owner caught the vehicle before it imacted the house, but the bumper did scrape the house. The gear shift was moved from park into gear. Parking break was not set. Child was in vehicle while it was in motion.
While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled.this caused lost of steering and brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic determined that speedometer gauge cluster shorted out.the vehicle would stall without warning.there were four attempts to fix the problem, it was finally determined that the problem was the pcm module. *sc the consumer know longer owns the vehicle.
I own a 1999 dodge ram extended cab 1500 pick up truck.my wife was driving and when she stopped the truck and placed in parkthe truck continued to move and we almost ran into the vehicle in front of us.after investigation it was noted that the lever on the stearing column used to change the transmission position was not functining.there was no way to place the transmission in the "park" position and there was no way to determine which position the transmission was in.there is a hinge system that connects the stearing column to the transmission and this hinge point is bolted to the frame of the truck.the bolts appear to be about 1/4" size.well, both of the bolts were sheared off and the hinge point was just hanging off the frame.this left the entire transmission operating assembly useless.we are very conservative drivers and don't push the vehicle and we feel that this is a safety issue.we basically stopped, placed the transmission in "park" and the truck kept moving toward on-coming traffic until we hit the brakes again.what i'm concerned about is the person that's not soo lucky and puts the truck in park and walks away then the truck starts moving.in our case, we were parking slightly down hill and we noticed the movement right away.
Transfer case shattered , driveshaft broke loose while driving.
While driving vehicle stalled.consumer was unable to restart vehicle, and had it towedto the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that rear end gear shift sheared off, and needed to bereplaced.
When vehicle is put into park it will roll back 2-3feet before it will engage. Dealer has inspectedvehicle, and said that itwas a common occurrence. Manufacturer has been notified.
My truck is not equipped with the park break release safety feature, and i want to know why?the last truck i owned before this was a 1996 cherolet and it had it , and my moms 2000 model chevrolet truck, pickup has it as does my dads 97 model ford pick-up.but without me knowing it i found out that my 1999 dodge truck does not have it, but all the chrysler cars are equpiped with it.not only did i not know that it didn't have it , but also the police officer that worked my accident, and 3 dodge dealers did not know this.as a result of my pickup not having this safety feature my grandmother, 4 year old son and myself were in an accident involving a semi-truck.i parked ina lot of a store and left my grandmother and son in the truck only to realize that i had forgot my purse.i came back for it on the passenger side, and ask them to hand it to me, it was on the dash, and when my son pulled it off, it hit the gear shift and went into reverse into the highway , and was struck by a on coming loaded semi-truck.fortuantly we was not killed , but i was hanging on to the truck trying to stop it, and did get some pulled muscles, and granny got a whiplash.my point is this is very dangerous.if these trucks are not supposed to have this feature they need it, for gods sake before someone is killed.why does the fords and chevy trucks have this ,and the dodge truck doesnt.please help me!!!and many others before something terrible happens..you should have to press the break to get these vehicles into gear.!!if its good for one why not the other. It can't be that much more expensive because the rest of them have it, and their no more higher than the rest. Thank you tracy williamsplease take this into consideration, and let me know something if possible.
While driving with vehicle in first gear it will jump out without prior warning, leaving vehicle in neutral and without power.vehicle had been taken to dealer twice for same problem, but dealer could not fix it.manufacturer had not been contacted.
When driving onhighway at 55 mphtransmission shifted out of gear from drive into neutral, causing vehicle to decelerate. Consumer has contacteddealer.
While towing a travel trailer (3000 lbs) from san antonio to corpus christi, air temp 85 degrees, overdrive off, distance 130 miles traveled, all of the sudden the torque converter unlocked and the engine revved up, and the transmission started vibrating. I immediately took my foot off the gas and let the vehicle coast untill the torque converter locked again, about two miles and speed dropped to 50 mph.everthing seemed alright until we traveled another 10 miles down the road and it happened again, it happened a third time about 10 more miles down the road.we towed the trailer exactly 185 mileswhen we had to stop for gas, tank on empty, and put in 27.5 gallons of gas.i would say the transmission is slipping alot. Stayed two days at the coast and tried to drive back to san antonio, traveled 30 miles to a military base with the engine reving and barely doing 50 mph, left the trailer in storage, filled the tank again, took 8 gallons of gas, drove back to san antonio, any time tried to do over 70 mph to pass slower vehicles the transmission would start vibrating.took the vehicle to the dealer and explained the problems, they gave the vehicle back to me a week later stating there is nothing wrong with the transmission.went down to corpus christi on 14 jul 2000 to retreive the trailer, temp 92 degrees, left the base and traveled 11 miles before the transmission torque converter unlocked again. Could only do 30 mph back to the base or the torque converter would unlock.took it back again to the dealer and they said "there are no problems with the transmission".all they did was put the computer on it , the pan has not been dropped yet, pressure gagues have not been put on it either. They want me to duplicate the problem, the trailer is 185 miles away and the vehicle can not tow it back here.what do i do???
Driving along highway 70 near quicny ca. When right rear axle broke sending the vehicle into the road embankment over turning the vehicle onto its roof, then flipping it again onto the remaining three wheels. The vehicle had front impact and the air bags did not deploy.
While driving at any speed consumer heard a squeaking sound coming from the rear axle of the vehicle. Rear pinion bearings were replacedfive times.dealer claimed that the problem was corrected.however, consumer insisted that the problem was still evident.*mr
When engine is running cold, and vehicle's clutch is engaged for any reason, vehicle's idle will drop to zero and shut down engine.dealer has been unable to duplicate problem on five separate occasions and has offered several suggestions as to what problem could be.all suggestions have been followed-up upon, and problem still exists.i'm very afraid that this problem could lead to a possible serious or fatal mva.
Dodge ram 1500year 1999 [xxx] mileage: 66,164 [xxx]customer service:i respectfully request reimbursement for the resent repairs incurred in reference to invoice #[xxx] as i was driving down the freeway early thursday morning of the 9th of february of this year, i heard a very loud banging of metal on metal at the same time the rear wheels of my truck locked up. The truck then skidded off the road barely missing the guardrail and other cars in the adjacent lanes. I took the truck to marietta dodge. Upon inspection by the dealership i was shown by the tech that the clips that hold the pin that supports the fiction clutch and gear assembly of the differential had fallen out into the housing letting the pin and the clips fall down into the gears causing rear-end to lockup and severe damage to it. This in-turn damaged the ring and pinion gears as well as the case, the bearings and so on. A list of the parts and labor are on the accompanying.invoice # [xxx] total: $3730.86 i took the damaged parts to the machine shop at the base and had them mag-ni-flux tested. We found that the several of the parts had stress cracks including the right rear axial just behind the hub that could of led to another accident shortly down the road. The machinist concluded that the clips could have failed do to poor casting and or metal fatigue. I would truly appreciate someone getting back to me about this request for reimbursement as soon as possible. Vehicle had a rear differential problem and was repaired four times with no remedy.consumer thought of replacing the entire component, but dealer refused because it would be imposible to order for the parts.*la*mr
While driving 45 mph a loud noise was heard and the brakes locked which caused the vehicle to veer to the right.vehicle would not move and had to be towed to the dealer.the dealer replaced the differential. *nlm
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the rear differential and pinion bearing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure occurred three additional times and the vehicle was repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered assistance for the first three repairs but not the fourth. The failure mileage was 14,044 and the current mileage was approximately 50,000.
Consumer noticed that when traveling a lound noise come from underneith the vehicle. Consumer contacted the dealer regarding the problem. Dealer determined that the noisewas due to a crack within the driveshaft, dealer has replaced the driveshaft. Please provide any further details.
Transfer case shattered , driveshaft broke loose while driving.
Vehicle has been back to dealer 4 times fortransmission problems.vehicle constantlydownshifts. It's a pest control truck and carries chemicals, and can be very dangerous in an accident.
Driving home on freeway, grinding noise ,smoke . We had to drive approx. 40 mph. We had the truck towed to the dodge dealership they say the transfer case is busted. We have had this truck in numerouis times and told them we felt like we were having transmission problems, they could never find anything wrong. Now our truck is still at the dealership because our ext. Warranty refuses to pay the claim. I have heard many people complaining about the transmissions in dodge trucks, can't something be done? dealer we bought from is out of business(crown dodge).
Front seat belts lock up will not work and a safety hazard and cannot bring passengersget tickets for not wearing seat belts

Drivers seat belt buckle was connected when a collision occurred at an intersection involving a honda accord. Upon collision, drivers seat belt strap broke the top ring portion of buckle during driver's forward momentum which caused the metal ring to snap releasing the safety belt strap and failing to arrest driver in his seat and causing driver to impact top door frame with head. Both air bags were deployed.driver sustained minor scalp contusions and minor sore neck and shoulder pain.vallejo ca police report #15-06667insurance claim (mercury insurance):claim number 2015 0015 003636 - 29 (claim currently in progress)

On our 1999 dodge ram 1500. Seat belt locking up when driving on both driver and passenger sides. Also as read on the complaints reports, dash board is falling apart.these are safety issues that will affect peoples lives. What has been done to correct it?
Front seat beltslocked up,will not pull out from there-tractors. The dodge dealer was unable to fix the problem.because of theseat belt law, we are not able to use thetruck. It was parked, we started to go, the belts were locked.
Front seat belts on the dodge ram 1500 quad cab (driver and passenger side) are locked - they will not pull out of the retractor mechanism built into the seat back, so they cannot be used.seat belts are supposed to be a fairly simple mechanical design because of the safety issues involved, but apparently chrysler chose to use an onboard computer to electrically complicate the issue.have been told that any parts to attempt a repair are obsolete and unavailable.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that he was unable to pull the front drivers side seat belt out from its retractor. Dash covering airbag's deteriorating, seatbelt doesn't rewind, seat back doesn't latch into a secure position. I wonder if the dash will explode on impact and will the shards of plastic cause further injury. During a sudden braking event will the seat back throw everybody in the vehicle into the dash if the seatbelts fail?no injuries yet. Can't afford all the repairs.
The front seat belts will not release from the retractor for more room. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
The seat belts failed to come out of the retractor housing there was a related recall 01v119000, however the consumer's vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.

Entire front seat frame is rusted.the interior has no signs of water damage or moisture exposure. *ln

The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. After restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate as normal. The contact also indicated that the headlights would intermittently dim and the rear passenger side tail light failed causing the bulb to be replaced. In addition, the contact indicated that when applying the brakes, the vehicle would sometimes jerk forward and a section of the dashboard would detach and fall to the floor. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 168,859.
The rear hard brake line mounted on the frame rail behind the fuel tank was severely rusted in an area about 4 inches long that could not easily be visually inspected (hidden behind the fuel tank).the hard brake line ruptured at the rusted area which compromised 100% of the braking power from the pedal.some quick research has revealed that this appears to be a common problem for this vehicle.many suggest this warrants a product recall due to the dangerous and critical nature of the vehicle subsystem in question:brakes.i'm lucky to be alive ... I had just returned from a trip through the mountains in tennessee with a full load in the truck bed and pulling a motorcycle trailer.the rupture occurred in my driveway while i was at a full stop!
This is the second time my brake line sprung a leak - drivers side rear.i am seeing many other complaints about the same issue / location.
While drivingon the interstate noticed a foul smell, which seemed to be plastic burning.consumer cut the air conditioning off, suddenly clouds of smoke poured from under the engine. Consumer pulled over to discover there was a fire coming from under the hood. Also, cruise control and abs have stopped working, and all 4 tires had to be replaced after 15000 miles. *ml

1998-2001 b-van (dodge full size). The abs control module is protected with a 40 amp fuse. A 10 ga. Wire comes out of the control module and then "y's" out to two 14 ga. Wires. The fire then continues until the van is fully engulfed in flames. This van is located at the verizon fleet garage, 8600 rees st, new port richey, florida 346681.

Got my truck feb.14,2000 and in 2001 i had to start replacing front driver side brakes. I did this approximately 2 times a year. It always seemed to be the ones on drivers front wore out others where fine. On oct.12,2004 a rainy night going home the truck started to shimmy when i used brakes. When i was going to turn right the brakes locked up on front and threw truck into embankment now wife messed up her neck due to impact. I did not file report cause no one else was at fault. The problem became more frequent. I continued replacing pads until recently. On july 28,2008 i changed everything except brake boost and master cylinder. The shimmying is back after 3 months. The vehicle pulls when i use the brakes and will throw you into other lane or off the road. I have had several close calls with other vehicles on the road through the years as i tried to repair the trouble. I have not received any recalls on this problem, but am tired of replacing pads. I have not fixed body damage from 2004 till i get this problem fixed. I have had others tell me of similar problems with their dodge trucks. What can be done to fix this?
When attempting to stop and the brakes are applied going over a series of bumps a reduced braking affect is achieved and possibility of crash is increased. *nlm
My 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport quad cabs abs and brake lights are on. My abs no longer works. Occasionally while drive the lights will go out but come right back on.the truck is also equipped with steering wheel controls for the radio. While using the volume buttons sometimes it will change radio station or will turn up when you want it to go down. I saw the ram van of the same year has a recall for the clock spring. It states that the symptoms are the abs and brake lights stay on. Does this recall apply to the ram trucks also?
1999 dodge ram experiencing problems with the brakes and the catalytic converter.*mr 1 year old and not on repository. The front wheel on the drivers side would shake when the consumer hit a pothole.the windows would fog with a greasy film, the heating coil was replaced.the check engine light illuminated and the 02 sensor was replaced. The pcv valve hose was replaced, the left brake light bulb was replaced, 4 injectors were replaced.
I was driving down the highway and applied my brakes. The pedal went all the way to the floor. Luckily, i had enough time to put the truck in low gear and come to a safe stop. I checked the brake fluid and the reservoir was empty. It appears that brake fluid is leaking from a brake line under the bed of the pickup near the gas tank. The break is not visible because the gas tank is in the way.i have not had it repaired yet.the truck is a 1999 dodge pickup with only 29000 miles.
I have had 4 setsof front brakes and 3 sets of rear brakes on this truck.i have replace the calipers and rotors twice.truck only has 64k miles on it and now it pulls to the left and the abs lights are now on.on one occasion the truck pulled so hard to the left i wound up in the other lane forcing the person in that lane to move to the shoulder of the freeway.i then took it up to dodge and once again they said the calipers were sticking and recommended replacing them.i had and extended warranty on the truck that was sold to me by dodge, and they refused to pay for it because they thought there was nothing wrong with the brakes.i truly should have pursuedthe lemon law with this 99 ram.does anybody know what the problem with these brakes are?
While driving in lowes parkinglot going about 10 miles i went to stop the brakepedal went all the way to the floori managed to stop without hitting anything after investagation found the brake line had rusted all the way throught this couldhave been deadly if this happen on the highway after talking to co workersi found 4 more dodges with rusted out brakeline allrusted brake line was replace by me as i do not trust dealerships repair shops.
Brakes for truck faded out after hitting a bump and the rear abs kicked in, resulting in greatly increased stopping distance.
The brakes on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 will not stop the truck in a panic stop.any time the brakes are hit hard the trucks requires a long distance to stop.i have had to drive up onto the curb as a result of the truck not stopping (going 30 miles per hour).
Noticed brakes very spongy on 1999 dodge ram while coming to a stop light.was able to stop without accident, although stopping distance was about 15 feet past the line.was near home, so drove very slowly to my residence with very little braking ability.found brake fluid dripping from driverside vehicle frame.upon further investigation found severely corroded brake line had ruptured.i replaced the brake line and have since found that this is a common occurrence on these vehicles, as indicated on many internet forms for these trucks.i still have the corroded brake line.

While driving rear brakes malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance which may result in a crash.dealer cannot determinecause. The vehicle has a problem with anti lock system.
Truck is not able to make an emergency stop from 40mph or above. Stopping distance is far too great. It happens often. Almost killed two children crossing the street. Brakes also fail momentarily when i hit a bump while applying the brakes. Something has to be done. A recall is needed.
When driving at 35 mph applied the brakes and the abs light came on,brake pedal went to the floorboard, causingconsumer not to have any brakes. Consumer hit another vehicle head-on, and the air bags didn't deploy.
Anti-lock brakes. Numerous issues. Brake linings on the rear drums have a very short service life. Replaced drums and linings in july of 2002. Drums and linings required replacement again in may of 2003 (approx. 20,000 miles) front pads were replaced in july of 2002 and still have 1/2 of linings left. On bumpy roads, brake system fades in and out. On wet roads, brakes may or may not work reliably. From researching your site, these are not uncommon occurrences. When will this be addressed?
When applying brakes in emergency stop, brakes intermittently fail to engage properly causing the vehicle to have greatly increased stopping distances.this defect has nearly caused numerous accidents.dealer stated they could not find any problem.replacement of rear brakes by consumer revealed that the driver side automatic adjuster was installed backward.consumer corrected the orientation of the automatic adjuster and the brake failure problem has not occurred since the rear brakes were repaired.*nlm
Took vehicle to dealer to get car inspected, and mechanic said brakes were shot and so were the rotors.consumer never experienced any problem while driving, not even a warning.
Whenever brakes are applied in a sudden / emergency stop it causes vehicle to continue on before stopping. Vehicle beenat three different dealer shops; two dealers informed consumer that nothing could be found, andother dealer informed consumer thatabs system needed replacment. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
My dodge pickup has been into the dealer many times to try to fix a repetitive problem with my front driver side brakes. One pad out of the four up front wear down to nothing while the other 3 have practically no wear. The dealership has changed the caliper, rotor, pads, everything that has to do with the front disc brakes to no avail. The same front driver side wheel area has had the idler arm replaced and other parts to try to remedy the problem, but nothing has worked. The dealership now has run out of parts to change to try to fix, so they have pretty much gave up and say that i have to pay for another brake job. The single pad wears all the way down to the rivets within 12-15k miles, so the dealer tells me that i will need a brake job every 12-15k miles. Ridiculous. They have accepted all the other prior attempts to fix this problem under the vehicle warranty, but now they will not, as they have run out of ideas to fix it. The vehicle is still within its warranty period. They have no explanation to give me for this failure either.
Abs fuse blew , causing the vehical to stall each time the brakes were applied. This resulted in loss of power steering and brakes.
I was going down a hill i had to apply the brakes fast and they grab and let go and grab again i almost hit the car in the front of me.
While brakingat high speeds pedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Dt: the contact states that he is having problems with his braking system, it will not stop. No prior warning to failure. The braking is very insufficient. The contact says that with normal braking it isfine, but it is when having to brake in apanic braketake too longto actually stop the vehicle. Almost, caused accidents several times. The dealership had the truck out for a test drive about the transmission ,and the mechanic even told him that the brakes were bad. But since the contact is on an extended warranty they will not do anything else to the truck.the consumer's braking system does not appear to have enough pressure to stop the vehicle in a panic stop situation. The pedal goes to the floor but the wheels do not stop and the abs never engages.*sb
Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.sincerely[xxx]updated 07/17/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I had just purchased my dodge ram 1500 @56000 miused and 2 months later the abs-light and the brake light came on i have taken it to be diagnosed and it came up a 72i was told it needed the cab module sensor replaced so we called the local dealer who says such part is about $315 so of course it will have to wait but the mechanic who diagnosed the lights said he had seen 2 or 3 same year trucks with their lights on also although they weren't there to get that problem fixed he had noticed that also so i was wondering before it becomes an accident waiting to happen if this is a recall situation or if anyone else has had the same problem i've had ,,,thank you.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions whenthe "anti-lock brake system" (abs) illuminated on the instrument panel.the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off.the vehicle has been taken to an independent mechanic for inspection.the failure was contributed to battery acid leakage onto the anti-lock brake system (abs) module.there was a recall under the nhtsa campaign id number 04v185000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module).however, the safety recall excluded the dodge ram 1500 series.the contact experienced the identical failures as mentioned in the recall defect.the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time.the failure mileage was 75,000.

1. Abs light kept coming on and brakes kept going to the floor.2. Tried to carefully get it to a safe location off the highway and brakes eventually failed on me causing me to drive off the road and my back quarter panel scrapped a telephone pole. 3. Dealer claims nothing faulty from their side, but had to change the master cylinder, brake booster and flush brake fluid.was told fluid was very dirty and black like the color of exhaust changing the color of the fluid.it was told i had contaminated fluid, but i don't know how this is possible.the old parts were apparently thrown away by the dealers a few days ago.i noticed others on the internet complaining about the same problems where the dealer claimed a particular problem and simply changed all of the brake parts.this is very fishy.cost was $1,150, but the salesman nicely discounted the price to $852 when i told him i drive like a grandpa and don't understand how this happened.
Brakes failed resulting in vehicle collision. Mjs
Brakes experience intermittent failure, replacement of the master cylinder and rear brakes did not rectify problems. Mjs
While driving at 25mph brakes failed to hold, resulting ina rear endcollision with another vehicle.

Brakes have failed numerous times from the time i drove out of the dealership to when i had to pay to have the front ones repacked.(leased vehicle)still have the same problemdealer told me "that's just how they are"duh!!! aren't brakes suppose to stop when you press them???also the worst problem w this truck is the constant knocking.even the best gas.dealer told me chrylsler is in court over this but in the mean time, some major problems are occuring re the pistons what a great lease two more years of this quality vehicle!
While driving down the road whether it is 20 or 60mph,when loosening up on the steering wheel it will pull extremely hard to the right.when driving long distance, driver has to fight the steering wheel in order to hold it.it has been in the shop eight times.they have replaced front brakes, and shocks.
During operation ofvehicle right-front brake caliper would stick, causing damage tobrake rotors and pads. Dealership has examinedvehicle, and replaced bothcalipers androtors.please provide any additional information / attachments.
Continuous uneven wear of brake pads. Only 1-pad out of the four up front wears down to metal to metal while the other 3-pads are like new condition.
Poor workmanshipat 58,000 miles my personal (not used for hauling) use 1999 dodge ram pickup had the water pump, radiator, front brake rotors, evaporatorfail. Cost over $3000.00.

Took vehicle to dealer to get car inspected, and mechanic said brakes were shot and so were the rotors.consumer never experienced any problem while driving, not even a warning.
Since vehicle was purchased noticed brake stopping distance was extended.complained to dealer, who advised that only has anti-lock brakes on the rear of vehicle.dealer diagnosed both front and rear pads being okay, but rotors worn out.

- the contact stated that when she got into her 1999 dodge ram 1500 (failure mileage: 100000) the seat belts were retracted and locked.the contact took the vehicle to the shop and they notified her of the recall on the retractor.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that they were not aware of the recall and asked her to make an appointment.
Brake line from the front of vehicle to the back (steel line) rusted through causing brake failure due to lost of fluid.
(1) brakes experience intermittent failure when trying to come to a complete stop. Pedal goes all the way to floor. On several occasions, i brought the truck to the dealer for a squeal and the steering felt odd.at least 5 u-joints, the track bar, and other front end parts were replaced.fortunately my dealer kept looking and i had the extended warranty.why is there no recall on the u joints and other parts??i know many people with the same problems.
This low mileage (64k)1999 dodge ram 1500 has developed a death wobble.usual symptoms, hit small bump in road at 60 + mph and shake and shutter until slow to 20-30 mph to regain control.this is extremely dangerous and i do not know what to do about it.
1999 dodge ram 1500 drives all over the road, you can't control it.it would be a very good drunk driving simulator. It will just go off one direction or the other when you are driving down the road with no warning. Very dangerous.
There is extensive death wobble in my truck and makes it almost impossible to control. I understand this is a common and recognized problem by dodge/chrysler for their dodge ram line. This is dangerous and an identified design flaw. It obviously happens while driving. I have to nearly stop the truck to calm the shaking.
Takata recall 1999 dodge ram (death wobble) the left front of the truck feels like it going to fall apart this truck is in good condition other then the only thing i can find is a random starting death wobble and of course nobody own up to there mistake as normal and its sad you make all that money and it comes with innocent blood on your hands dodge you made a mistake fix it before its to late and you in up killing people i'm a vet with a child if something happens to my child because he loves riding in daddy's truck i will tell you one thing there will be no law suit on my hands they will make a movie of the hell i bring down those.... Lets just leave it at that and fix the problem i'm not one to be the guy that tells the spoiler plus its not going to come to that because you all are good people and your going to do the right thing and not have family's out there in death traps
Ignition and key are defective.ignition key can be removed from vehicle ignition during vehicle operation.ignition key fell out of ignition while driving.ignition key can be removed from ignition while vehicle is running and in motion.vehicle sometimes does not need the key in the ignition to start the engine.if the vehicle is running the key can be very easily pulled out of the ignition assembly, the key just slips right out of the ignition.chrysler has been notified and their response is the vehicle is out of warranty.i asked chrysler customer service to forward the complaint to a higher up person in chrysler and was told that after my phone call, that was the end of the issue and chrysler takes no responsibility for the problem concerning a defective ignition switch.i spoke to chrysler customer service at (800) 334-9200.the approximate incident date is approximate and the problem started six years ago and the problem is ongoing through today.an internet search yields countless other complaints for the same subject matter.the condition is unsafe and please look into the problem.thank you.
This truck has always had play in steering. In order for me to go straight, the wheel has to be turned about 45 degrees to the left, even after an alignment. I have gone through multiple tie rod ends, and other steering components. I can turn the wheel about 25% back and forth, and the truck goes no where which is not safe, way to much play in steering and i've seen a lot of incidents where this happened with other people. Dodge needs a recall.
While driving down the road whether it is 20 or 60mph,when loosening up on the steering wheel it will pull extremely hard to the right.when driving long distance, driver has to fight the steering wheel in order to hold it.it has been in the shop eight times.they have replaced front brakes, and shocks.
The steering unit failed causing loss of control and collision with guardrail, due to design of the gas tank, which hangs 3 inches below frame, during impact with the guardrail, the fuel tank ruptured and caught fire, burning vehicle and injury/burns to consumers. Yh
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph the power steering failed and the contact lost control of the vehicle without any warning. Being unable to control the vehicle, the contact crashedinto a ditch. The driver received minor injuries to her hand. The police were not contacted. The vehicle was later towed and he was informed that the steering linkage fractured due to the frame being rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however, there was no response. The failure and current mileages were approximately 136,000.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500 club cab when making right turns the steering either has play or clicks i just had the vehicle serviced and nothing was reported wrong.
While drivingvehicle it steers hard to the left, but has no problem to the right. Dealer has been contacted.
The "dodge death wobble" is for real.while driving my 1999 dodge ram 1500 on the interstate, i went over a small bump in the road.the whole truck began shaking violently. It was extremely hard to control and did not stop shaking until i slowed down to under 20 mph.this is extremely unsafe and dodge should be forced to fix the problem. This problem has occurred more than five times in my truck.
On the day that we test drove the vehicle we noticed a clunking in the steering wheel and we informed the dealership. We were led to believe it was a small minor part , it wasn't untill after purchased the vehicle that we found out it was the steering column
Steering column and steering wheel disconnected fromvehicle when it was involved in a head-on collision.please provide any additional information/attachments.

Consumerhas to continuously fight to keep vehicle onroad. Took vehicle to dealer, and they replacedsteering box. But problem reoccurred, andvehicle has been at dealers6 times since then.
While traveling approximately 20 to 25 mphconsumer lost control. A dealership examined the vehicle, and determined that a seal inside steering gear box blewout, causing the problem. Partswere available for inspection.please provide any additional information / attachments.
Steering gear box had to be replaced twice bydealer. But,problem is reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.
While turning about 20 mph onto a side street the steering box failed and the section shaft sheered off.there was no steering and the vehicle crashed into a steel post.
On 05/08/99 the complaintant was involved in a single vehicle accident which resulted in significant physical injury (i.e., second and third degree burns) to the passenger, and complete loss of thevehicle and its contents.the cause of this accident was a defective steering mechanism in the 1999 dodge ram quad cab truck which allowed the vehicle to the right, resulting in loss of control, hitting a guardrail, and rupturing the gasoline tank.

Left front wheel partially broke loose, with loss of steering, causing pick-up to veersharply to left, striking a security fence, and severely damaging left front,under-carriage and left wheel suspension.speed approx. 30 mph
The left front tire came loose on the dodge ram 1500. The truck took a hard left turn into the concrete divider on the interstate approximate speed 65 mph. The impact broke the rear left wheel, and crushed the front left fender, as well as the entire front of truck. The air bags did not deploy. However, i hear of a potential lining recall that might have affected this. My brother thankfully only had minor injuries that we are aware off.
I was hauling a round bale of hayhome when the left front wheel almost fell of the truck. I lost control of the truck but was lucky enough to get it stopped before i hit anyone. I had the truck hauled to owensville motors and they found that the left front spindle nut had stripped off and the left front bearing went out bending the knuckle, ruining the rotor, brake pad, caliper, tire, abs sensor, and the seals in the axle. I am very lucky not to have been hurt or have hit anyone else when i lost control of the truck. The only thing that held the tire on was the brake. This should never have happened and i feel this is definetly a safety issue. I could have had a very serious accident and been hurt or hurt someone else. The spindle nut should never have been able to come completely off causing the wheel to almost fall off. I am also wondering if this has been reported by anyone else.

Dashboard on truck has completely fallen through.
Dash cracking and it may break into small chunks and could put an eye out. Dodge should recall from 98 models to o4 models, this seems to be the most reported year models!!!!!!!
I am the owner of a 1999 dodge ram 1500.i am having an issue with the dash having multiple severe cracks and breaks.i am afraid that this will affect the air bag development if ever needed.i have done research and have found that this is a very common compliant in these vehicle's and similar models.help is needed!
The whole dashboard is practically gone due to the cracks and dodge not willing to replace it with me paying for it. Said it's not a safety issue. Even though while driving it is falling apart and rolling around the truck, (dashboard, seats and floor) also being i can see all of the wires under neath and all of it's inners'. That could possible cause a fire. I currently have the vin number taped to he windshield so it doesn't fall off as well.
Dashboard cracking.
We own a 1999 dodge ram sport and the dashboard is literally crumbling away.it is severely cracked all over.i am concerned that if we are in a wreck that the pieces will fly off the dash and harm the passengers and that the airbags won't deploy properly.i am also concerned that pieces will fall down into the dash and cause further problems.i haven't done anything to correct the problem yet because i don't have the money.
Dash board has cracked and falling apart. The other day i caught my hand on a piece that has curled up with a sharp corner while retrieving my sunglasses i took off to pump gas.
Dashboard on 1999 dodge ram 1500 cracked and fell apart. Pieces of dash falling off.
I have a 99 dodge ram 59xxx miles. The dashboard is cracked in multiple places. The truck has a dashmat and have always been parked under a canopy. I never put armor all on the dash.(in a forum this is what some said what caused the dash to crack). I've had 3 to 4 company vehicles in 11 yrs and never had this happened. I refuse to pay the dealer $800 to $1000 to replace. This happened approx. 2 yrs after i had the truck.
The dashboard has racks in multiple places and the enter finally fell in onto the top of the radio. The truck has never been abused or in a wreck. I walked outside one morning and noticed the dashboard cracked. About a week later is when the center fell in.
Own a dodge ram 1500 (1999).dash began cracking about a year ago, now it has huge holes where the dash has literally broken off in chunks!i'm concerned that the dash could become a hazard if there were a crash (would it become shrapnel?), will this problem affect the airbags?
Cracked dash on 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4.dash is cracked on passenger side could interfere with passenger side air bag.
1999 dodge ram 1500 quad pick-up. Cracking-fractured dashboard and bezel. The dashboard panel has had several long cracks completely transversing and transecting the deck in many areas and many newer ones. What started as a few thin cracks have continued to multiply and widen. Now, the entire dash has fractures.pieces have fallen into the interior of the dash among the wiring and ducts leaving large holes on top. The brittle plastic edges are very sharp and leave the surface uneven and weakened. An aftermarket fabric overlay was applied about two years ago at first to conceal cracks, but recent inspection revealed current structural failure condition. The instrument bezel is also cracked in similar area to dash cracks.these weakened components and the state of fracture progressing throughout panel concerns me as to the safety and function of this vehicle in the event of a collision.what affect could it have on the airbag deploying or the structural integrity and function of components attached to the dash panel?loose plastic pieces could become dangerous to occupants and safety equipment or become lodged functionally impairing driveability.internet research has informed me that this in not an isolated case. Aftermarket vendors have full dashboard replacement part for ~$400., presumably better abs quality than oem part. The dodge dealer quoted about $900. For labor only!these vendors also carry a moulded abs plastic "dash cap and bezel" overlays to be glued over damaged dashes to "improve appearance", (~$300.), a quick dyi job, but will not solve structural weakness nor continued breakage of original dash from below cap, additionally these overlay "caps" do not have the attachment tabs for airbag or instrument cluster, etc., so the original tabs would have to do the job but may be structurally compromised from cracking also. I have yet to decide which is the best option to take. In any case, the old part is still available for the time being.
Dash board cracks (holes) in 1999 dodge ram. The problem in the news is not only 2001 trucks, our dash is completely gone.
Severe cracking of dashboard on 1999 dodge ram pick-up. Two recent news stories have shown that this wasnot an isolated incident.
The dashboard of my 1999 dodge ram 1500 has several cracks with at least one piece ready of fallingoff.
Dash is totally falling apart. I was concerned that passenger airbag would not work. I am having dash replaced now for about $1400.00 and i think this should be a recall as i have never seen any other car or truck do this. There is something defective about this plastic. This is not sun damage.
Cracking and broken dash.the dash around the air vents and pillars are broken away in large chunks with cracks extending from around 3" around the perimeter of the dash. Dash is loose as a result of the cracking and broken pieces that have fallen out. This is a "common problem" to dodge rams.dodge should take responsibility and replace the dashboards with decent ones instead of expecting customers to pay $800 for the same inferior and faulty part. These dashboards should be replaced due to an obvious manufacturing flaw/problem.
1999 dodge ram dashboard cracking all over most of cracks around passenger air bag . Incase of accident afraid strong impact will send lose sharp dash pieces onto person inside vehicle.air bag deployment might cause dashboard objects to impale person inside. Unknown if water could cause a short in the wiring system to exposed dash causing vehicle to shut off while on highway at speeds of 60mph. Very concerned with this defect and afraid to put anyone in vehicle.
Dash cracking and breaking up. Caving in, big hole in dash. Unsafe now. Happened over summers, made too thin. One crack when i bought it. All broke up now.'04-'08.
The dash on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab has cracked and has big holes in the dash...the dash can't be touched because it will fall apart.
Plastic on top of dash (dash cap) is severely cracked and is now open to the underside. I feel this is a problem with this make of truck and could damage or hinder the air bags if deployed.
Approximately 2 years after the purchase of my then brand new dodge ram 1500, the dashboard began to crack.the cracks continued to grow in size and increase in number until chunks of the dashboard began to cave in and pop out.currently the dashboard is either missing completely in very large sections, or chipped, cracked and caved inothers.there is no way that this will not cause, or is a safety issue in an accident, or even just under normal operating conditions.
One day got into vechicle and noticed the dash cracking in several places.notice more cracking everytime i get into vechicle.have not replaced.
1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck.dashboard cracked extensively.needs investigation.
Cracked dashboard:all of a sudden my dashboard started to crack for no reason.cracking pieces were falling under thedashboard, possibility of slicing wires.exposed wires werr now exposed to the sunlight.could cause melting of the wires.dodge won't replace the item even though it is an obvious defect across all of dodge's trucks.
Cracked dash 1999 dodge ram.exposed wires.safety hazard.
Dashboard literally fell apart, i feel its unsafe in the event of a wreck parts of the dash of this truck could be projectiles. 1999 dodge ram1500pick-up.
Dashboard falling apart. Looks like a jigsaw puzzle. Have done a search online to find out this is a problem that continues from year 1998 through 2010. Dodge refuses to acknowledge there is a problem. However, i feel the dash having jagged edges pointing at you would be a safety hazard.
There are several people including myself that has bought a 1999 dodge ram 1500 and the dashes are cracking . I was told it was cracking due to it not having any flexability. Can you help.
Dashboard cracked in half in two places, and cracking more and more each day,one of the big cracks is in front of the air bag. Found many complaints on the web about these dodge dashboards falling apart, this could be a real safety problem i hope something is done about, i know dodge ain't doing nothing about!
Dash cracked ,getting worse, pointy pieces of hard plastic that could be dangerous in an accident, and also exposing wiring and air bag to sun damage.
Dash has cracked in multiple places. Not safe to ride in for any passenger or driver. This has been going on long enough. Equipment failure is part of why these complaints are entered here. Does no one listen? airbags, sharp corners, electrical failure what more has to happen?
1999 dodge ram / dashboard cracking in multiple places, on verge of collapsing. It is a safety issue.
Dash is cracking very bad. This is not the way a dash should look. This also takes away the value of my truck very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The dashboard of 1999 dodge ram 1500cracked, and parts of it totally broke off. Other parts of the dashboard have not quite broken off but it will not take much more for them to do so. Pieces of the dashboardthat have already broken off and have fallen down in the dashboardwere loosely flying around.itlooked as though it will cause issues with air bag deployment, and/or cause injury to a passenger in the event of a crash. The crack provided a sharp edge(s) where some body part may get caught, cut, or sliced if they come in contact with it in an accident.
1999 dodge 1500 pickup. Dash board cracked and fell apart from noapparent reason. Dodge would not help in replacing. I had it replaced at a cost of approx $500 so as not to cause an electricalfire.
1999 dodge ram 1500 pick up. Dash board is collapsing, i'm worried that this could lead to electrical problems. I.e headlights going out or something worse.this seems to be a huge problem for dodge truck owners. There needs to be a recall.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 that the upper dash has completely cracked away in large and small pieces. They are sharp & in the event of an accident could become missels or drop into the wiring behind the dash. This is happeningfrom years 1998-2004. The dodge dealer i went to admitted there was a mix-up in the plastic mixture but there was nothing they could or would do.*cw
Dash falling apart! my previous vehicle was a 1995 ram and i had the same issue. Obviously this is a consistent problem for dodge. Having had the problem before, i purchased a dash mat from the dealer when i bought the truck but, the dash fell apart anyway.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500. This past summer the dash board just started cracking and the dash board pieces are falling out constantly. I now have only a partial dashboard left with holes in it big enough to put your hands through. Even while i am driving, smaller pieces will pop off the dash and shoot at me. I am reading complaints all over the internet regarding the exact same thing, o i know it's not a problem unique to me.
Dashboard craked and basically disintergrated!
Cracked dashes may lead to ripped airbags on deployment(safety issue).
1999 dodge dashboard cracked sitting in parking lot on sunny day.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The dash has developed a crack across the middle of the dash that keeps getting bigger.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 the dashboard in it is cracking and falling in leaving wires exposed to the hot sunit is cracked all around passenger air bag i don't know if air bag still works the exposed wiring looks like fire hazard and headlight possible head or tail light failure this vehicle only has 60,400 miles on itstill a lot of life left in this truck except for the dash problem. The last dodge i will buy unless theystand behind there product good or bad.
The dashboard on my 1999 dodge ram truck is cracked, broken, and coming apart. Parts of the dash are falling into the vents and other electrical devices.
The dashboard in the 1999 dodge ram 1500 started developing cracks in it a few years after purchase.i tried to contact the dealer pertaining to this, but was told, "sorry, it was out of warranty".the cracks have continued for the past few years despite purchasing a window shade to screen it from the sun.if the cracks continued, entire pieces will begin to fall somewhere behind the dashboardonto electrical components as well as possibly spread to the passenger air bag.
1999 dodge ram with major cracks on dashboard and anything that mounts to it. Glove box snaps off because it is also mounted and made of the defective plastic. Very unsafe if an accident were to occur with jagged sharp plastic pieces. Electrical system defects due to the sun beating down on exposed wiring because there is no dashboard to cover it. Dodge will not admit to it being a problem that they will recall. It will have to take someone getting severely injured for dodge to maybe reconsider there decision of recalling the dashboard.
I have a 1999 dodge ram magnum 1500 the dash it cracked in to different places lights on top don't work the push button is broken, and the cup holder tray is broken.
1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab. Dash has 2 holes where the dash has cracked and fallen thru. I researched this problem and found hundreds of claims on message boards with some people saying that the plastic falling on wires caused shorting out electronics.
The trucks dashboard become cracking and has become falling apart. I have had an accident with the truck but this has became in issue before the accident happened.
Dash is cracked and it poses a threat of injury either in a minor accident. Due to its extent of damage it continues it could affect the proper deployment of the airbag. It could so cause the airbag to become a weapon. In some cases the plastic parts that fall loose from the dash as the dash continues to deteriorate end up in the vent systems and can blow out when the fan is turned on. I wish you would investigate as dodge won't admit it is a defect. When they do install a replacement dash it is also defective and the cycle repeats. Dodge needs to help the thousands who are affected by this problem.
1999 dodge ram pickup dashboard cracked after having vehicle for only a few years.now dashboard is in pieces and rattles the entire ride.
My 1999 dodge ram truck dash assembly is falling apart.the upper pad started by cracking and finally falling into the main dash area about 70% of the dash pad is broken off.now the main dash assembly is cracking and unable to hold the accessories attached to it on its own.i am asking dodge to replace the dash assembly at their cost with no luck.
I bought my 99 dodge ram new in tucson, az.within a couple of months i bought a carpet dash cover to protect the dash from the sun.have not looked under cover till truck experienced heater core problems.took truck in to get part fixed and was informed my entire dash was cracked.i never used protective chemicals like armoral or removed the dash cover, so sunlight/chemicals should not have caused this problem.as with other people with this "dodge dash crack" problem i have lost my right front speaker and other electronic equipment appears to be having issues.nothing specific yet except for the speaker.have appointment for truck, but don't expect much as my truck is sitting at 64,000+ miles and it is a few years past warranty.am concerned that the dash could be causing electrical problems which could lead to fire or air-bag deployment.
Dashboard crumbled into little pieces. Dealershipindicated that this occurred because of a defect in the material being used. This was a common problem with these vehicles. The entire dashboard had to be replaced.
The dashboard was cracking (like every other dodge) and a piece had fallen down and some how grabbed two wires and caused them to touch. Lucky for me it smoked before it went up in flames. My girlfriend hurried up and ripped the wires apart. Please fix this dodge! yes my truck is old but this is been a known problem since it was new.
The dash on my 99 dodge ram qc 4x4 started cracking in 2003 and now there are pieces of the dash breaking off and falling inside. Now i am having wiring issues and nobody will repair or even look at the truck with the dash like it is. I talked to the dodge dealership and they told me that this is common and it will cost over $400 to fix. Then i will have to pay even more for the damage to the wiring that this failure caused. Now i am wondering if i do get into an accident if the airbags will even deploy!
Dashboard is badly cracked.
Dash crumbling and falling apart, big chunks just break away when you hit a bump or just touch the dash exposing wires, air ducts and heater core, i've had pieces fly out of air ducts while ac is on, hitting me in the face, i would hate to imagine what would happen if i'm involved in a wreck and an air bag deploy with shards of sharp plastic flying at my face or body, it would be like knives flying at you and stabbing or cutting you severely. This prob started not long after purchasing the truck used, after about 70,000-75,000 miles this problem started, i believe dodge should at least pay for a new dash made with better plastic, i've heard of and know other people with dodges that have the same problem, i've been told but don't know how true it is but supposedly dodge was using defective plastic in the dashes from i think 97 through 05.
Dashboard is breaking up with no apparent cause.
Vehicle wheel almost layed down.brand new front tires wore down.*tcthe ball joints failed, which caused the problem with the tires.the dashboard cracked and the consumer had it replaced at a cost of $525.00.
The dash board of my 1999 dodge ram 1500 is cracked, and looks as though it may cause issues with air bag deployment, or cause injury to a passenger in the event of a crash. The crack provides a sharp edge(s) where some body part may get caught, cut, or sliced if they come in contact with it in an accident.
Dashboardis cracked and falling apart.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. While driving on the railroad track at 10 mph, the dashboard shattered. The air bags and the wires were not exposed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 208,437.
Dashboard cracked and continues to get worse; afraid it may fall in and ruin some of the wiring or trip the airbag to come out. The cracking started shortly after the warranty ran out and the dealer said they would not nor would dodge cover the repair or replacement. Pretty said and i found a website with over 99 people complaining about the same issues. This should be fixed by dodge.
1999 dodge ram 1500 44, the dash has completely crack and broken out. I hit a bump in the road and a piece the size ofa plate falls into the lower part of the dash. My dash completely has collapsed, i have never heard of this before on any vehicle. Then i read the blobs and saw thousands of people having the same problem. Why is this happening to are trucks, and everyone is having the same problem, at what point do we say manufacturer defect. How many people have to say the same thing before some one does something, they are not even offering a reasonable repair. $1000 to replace the dash is a joke, a plastic cover, are you kidding! dodge does not even make this dash any more so it is supply and demand! something has to be done.
1999 dodge ram 1500 cracked dash - dash cracked several years ago and continues to get worse with many cracks.seems like a safety issue in case of airbag deploying and dash projectiles flying about.
Dashboard hazardthe part began failing while i was having some interior work done on my vehicle. It started with a small crack and now it's turned into 2 gaping holes.the dashboard on the 1999 dodge ram is a potential hazard. They are very brittle and subject to constant ongoing cracking. If ever there is a case of frontend collision or airbag deployment the driver and passengers could be blasted with numerous pieces of sharp hard plastic.

Cracked dash board, 1999 dodge ramwe had it replaced three or four years ago.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated the entire dashboard was cracking and separating. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions in which they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The cracks became progressively worse. Defect in 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup dashboarddashboard has cracks and is crumbling apart...!!!!i used armor all to protect dashboard but it keeps falling apart and is risk for injury/death if air bag is deployed..i have read other complaints online cause of dodge skimping on materials..i want dodge to replace this at no cost to me..
When ridding down the road, i was cut off by another car i turned the wheel to avoid hitting the car and i hit the curb that was about 3 inches high. When i hit the curb my dash board cracked.there is a big hole in the middle, a long crack straight across.i called my insurance company to claim but was denied because of a manufacture default.dealer said it will cost me about 3,500 to fix.i was only going 7 miles per hour.
Cracked dashboard.
The upper dash panel/pad in the 1999 series of dodge ram pickup's has been experiencing cracks in it.these cracks start and then do not stop.on my particular truck i am missing a huge chunk of the dash due to this problem.i have searched and searched the internet for a replacement part, but to my surprise there are none at a decent replacement rate.the body man i spoke to at a local dealership says that all the dodge dash pads are like this, and i have found him to be correct.i have read countless numbers of incidents of similar proportions in forums all over the internet about this same problem.i would really like to see makers of dodge issue a recall on this item and replace it at no cost to owners like me experiencing this problem with a product that will not crack like this one has.it is dangerous to people not only by the sharp corners of broken pieces of dashboard, but for some it has shorted out wires that have melted from exposure to the sun and caused severe risk to their safety.please, please, please do something about this.i myself have cut my arm open on a piece of broken dash when one out of no where just decides to break off.
1999 dodge ram 1500, has a cracked dash.the whole top of the dash is cracked.this started about 4 years ago and it is slowly getting worse.it poses a threat for safety, if the air bags were to get caught in the cracked dash.
My 1999 doge ram 1500 dash cracked and then exploded into pieces while driving i now have arge holes in the dash with the wiring exsposed.
I am the owner of a 1999 dodge ram. My dashboard began cracking last year (2005.) the truck isn't that old and i see no reason why it should be cracked as it is... Right now i have a huge gaping hole for a dash. I'm also aware many people are having this same problem. The plastic on the dash is very brittle and the slightest bump is just cracking things more and more. Dodge needs to step up and do something about this. I feel this is a serious defect in some of their trucks.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 which i purchased new in november of 1998.in 2003 the dash board started cracking, and it now looks like a jigsaw puzzle.chrysler said that it was not covered since the warranty was up.every dodge ram from 98-01 that i have looked at has the same problem.i also had the roof of the truck repainted at hill-kelly dodge in pensacola fl in 2004 because it was peeling.the clear coat is now coming off of the roof, and the dealership that painted it said that they could not help me since it was over three years ago.if you could please give me some advice, i would be very grateful.thank you
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. While the contact was examining his vehicle he noticed that the entire dashboard began to wear and crack. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the entire dashboard needed to be replaced. The contact noticed prior that there were small cracks forming on the dashboard. The current and failure mileages were 152000.
The dash board cracked across the top. The consumer was very concerned with this issue because the air bag may deploy. *tc
The dash board on my dodge ram truck is cracking and falling to pieces. The pieces falling into the dash can cut or expose electrical wires and in a crash the extra broken dash pieces can add to the problem of flying debris that can cut passengers.
Same as all other dashboard complaints. Dashboard is just self destructing with large pieces falling into the inside of the dash. Nothing shorted out yet but i'm sure it's just a matter of time.
The dashboard onthe 1999 dodge ram truck was cracked.the truck has been well maintained andwas housed undercover.the crack appeared about 2 months ago.our local newsreported hundreds of owners with the same problem ,indicating there may be a defect in the dashboardof these vehicles.
Dashboard crumpling and falling into air vents and being blown around interior of vehicle. Could cause accident if a little blows into eyes.
Dashboard on my 1999 dodge ram has cracked in several places. I just bought the truck 2 months ago and it already had one large crack and has gotten several more since i purchased it. I think dodge needs to be held responsible for this, its a well documented defect. I also believe its a safety hazard. In an accident i don't want to have to worry about plastic from my dashboard turning into shrapnel when the airbag goes off.
I own, since new, a 1999 dodge ram pickup truck. The truck has 57,000 miles and is well taken care of. Last year i noticed a crack running along the bottom of my dash. After that, they just kept coming one after another. Now i can take it apart like a puzzle . One big piece did come out, leaving a gaping hole.i"m waiting for warmer weather to try to fix it. My concern is ,being that the whole dash is in pieces, how secured is the airbag on the pass. Side ?
The dash board material contained a 16 inch crack.the hinge had broken off of the glove box.scc
1999 dodge ram 1500,purchased it new. The dashboard has been cracking for the last few years, and has on 5-8-07brokeninto itself. No sort of accident has happened because of the defect.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4, and my dash is just falling apart day by day. The plastic is very brittle. I tried a dash cover but it has nothing to hold it up.

I drive a 99 dodge ram 1500 and im having dashboard problems thought it was just mine at first but than i got on the internet and did research about it and its not just my truck there is alot of other complaints about the same problem the dashboards in the 99 dodge ram 1500 crack and leave big holes exposing wires the news said it could lead to a safety issue.
Dashboard cracked and falling in. Based on other similar reports from the news this can lead to electrical problems causing lights to go off, dashboard to short out, etc.
Dash cracked and fell apart causing headlight wire to melt and headlights to go out while driving down interstate at 70 mph.
1999 dodge ram 1500 dash is cracking. The cracking started with no action to cause such cracking. The cracking is spreading to a point the entire center section of the dash will soon cave in leaving all wiring behind the dash exposed. This is a known problem with dodge trucks. When are you going to do something about it!!!
Should have never cracked kept board cleaned and well hydrated using proper cleaning procedures.cracked dashboard causes cuthazard due to sharp edges.
Dashboard is severely cracked and falling apart on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 truck with over 160,000 miles. Pieces of the dash are jagged and can be dangerous.
Cracked dash on top and down front on 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab. It has been progressively getting worse over the years. It is a hazard in my opinion if the airbags ever had to deploy... It would send pieces of the dash flying at the driver and passengers. This could be fatal. Please help make dodge/chrysler repair the dashes in these trucks. From my research online... There are numerous complaints. Not only with the 1999 model dodge rams, please help.
My 1999 dodge ram 1500 has a cracked dash and this is the second that i have put in it.there is no reason for them to be breaking and am worried about safety issues with air bags.
Dash cracking on 1999 dodge ram 1500 pick up.
Dashboard craked in several places.

Thedashboard cracked on the top , entire dashboard,to include the passenger side.consumercomplained to the gm dealer and maufacturer. Consumer felt the windshield will be affected.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 and the dash is busting into pieces. Dodge needs to fix this because it is a safety hazard. I have a 4yr old and a 2 yr old grandkids and don't want them or me to get hit with pieces of the dash.
My husband and i both have dodge ram 1500 trucks and both dashboards are cracking my husbands is worse and has a hole that is large enough to put your head into. I was driving home from work a few nights ago when mine "exploded" or what sounded like someone fired a gun in the cab of my truck this is very dangerous and there are alot of complaints when is someone going to get off their rearends and do something about this or is it going to take someone wrecking and possibly dying to get chryslers attention and let me just say they are dang lucky that i was stopped when it happened cause if i had wrecked my truck i would have thrown a massive lawsuits on these people and i don't care who it would of hurt this is insane. My best friends son cut his hand open on his dash because of it there is no need this needs to be fixed it is a hazard. Hello fix it!
Dashboard cracked with truck less than 4 years.i replaced it with a used one and it cracked within a year.both made of cheap material.
1999 dodge ram quad cab dashboard developed its first crack on the passenger side above the airbag five years ago.in the past couple of years, the dash on the passenger side is continuing to disintegrate despite using visors to keep as much sun out as possible.the drivers side is also starting to "crumble" around the air vents.
I was driving down the road about a year ago and my dash board cracked from the window about 6 inches up.the cracks have multiplied since then to 12 cracks and some parts of the dash have fallen into the dash.i drive a 1999 dodge ram 1500.i called the dealer and they quoted me $550 for the top part of the dash.i know of 6 other people with the same problem and would like to have my dash replaced by the dealer.this is an obvious defect.
Severely cracked dash on '99 dodge ram p/u. Extends to passenger air bag. Not yet repaired.
My dash has 3 cracks in it one from the windshield all the way back, and the others are 1) from the windshield to about 7" back and 2) from the windshield making a large curve about 14" long.both of the two on the passenger side are slowly creeping toward the passenger air bag.there was no actions such as crashesthat could have caused this to happen.
1999 dodge ram 1500 dash has cracked, split and sunk in since the purchase and every day there is new cracks appearing! one popped so hard when i turned the heat on lowthat a small piece of the dash flew up and got lodged in my eye. This has been non stop with this dash.
Dashboard cracked and caved in.
You can add my name to the long list of others who have a cracked dashboard on my 1999 dodge ram 1500. It has been cracked for some time now but i thought i was just unlucky but after doing some research i found that there are many people with the same problem but dodge will do nothing to fix the problem which i consider unethical.
The dash in my 1999 dodge ram pickup truck has cracked, the cracking started a few months after i bought it. I have looked into replacing it but it is way expensive and have heard other owners of this type of truck have had complaints too. It was brought more to my attention when i saw it on the news last night. I feel if i paid over $18,000 dollars and more from my truck it should not have had a cracking dash months after i bought it. I contacted dodge but they were not willing to fix it because it was considered cosmetic, but if its cosmetic then why is it happening to everybody that owns a dodge ram?? i am scared for the safety of me and my family pieces can fly up if you hit the slightness bump and what if the air bags deploy?
The dashboard on the 1999 dodge ram 1500 and most dodges from 1994-2001 specifically are cracking all over the country. We had a crack in the dashboard after getting the air conditioner fixed. We thought it was there fault but due to the high number of dashboards being shattered in these trucks from many people i don't think it is.now the whole dash is in danger of caving in. This has been reported in the news many times and people are getting fed up. This could cause electrical damage and the sharp plastic from the jagged cracks can hurt someone. I believe the dashboards need to be recalled or someone will be hurt.
I noticed a slight line in the dash sometime in 2009, next to the windshield and about 5 or 6 inches fromthe passenger door.i thought that it was a surface scratch.later on, it got longer and longer, becoming noticeable as a crack, until now it is all the way across the dash and to the glove compartment, coming at an angle towards the middle of the truck.about a year after i noticed that the crack had gotten longer, perhaps 1/2 way across the dashboard, i was hit in the back end by another vehicle.about 7 months after that, the crack elongated to it's full length across the dash from the windshield to the glove compartment.i am worried that the dash will fall in.
99 dodge ram1500 , dash board has caved in . Sharp edges are in plain sight. This could be life threatening if an accidentoccurs.this dash fell in on itself with no outside help.in other words, it was not damaged by anyone.
The dash started cracking years ago and continues to crack so badly that chunks are falling off leaving sharp edges exposed. There are many ram owners with the same issue. It's apparent that this a a manufacturer's defect that needs to be recalled.i don't want to replace it with the same dash and have the same thing happen, but there a risk of being seriously cut by the sharp pointed edges as the dash continues to crack and fall apart.
I recently purchased a 1999 dodge ram laramie slt.after having it for a few months i noticed that the dashboard was cracked and craking in numerous places.after a few weeks i now have numerous holes in my dash board.it is begining to look like a jig saw puzzle.this is a serious defect that can cause serious damage.
Dash panel breaking causing dangerous sharp pieces.
We have a 1999 dodge ram ext cab and the dash cracked and we were told it was not a issue but after reading online i am seeing that several people have had the same issue.i feel that it could be dangerous if the air bag deploys for not only myself but my children.
Dash board is cracking all over. It just started a few months ago and is getting worst. My truck is in show condition and this really bites. I think dodge should fix this problem with a recall. I don't think my airbag will work because the housing it seats into is cracked too.
Dashboard cracked for no reason, has fallen into pieces.
Dash became brittle with large cracks and large pieces of plastic breaking off dash falling in floor board.
In my 1999 dodge ram, i have replaced the dash twice. It has cracked both times. You cant keep dashes in these trucks!
My dashboard started developing cracks about a months ago, and they just kept getting worse. Currentlythere is a huge hole in my dashboard exposing wires (radio no longer works properly)and the passenger side airbag.
Dt:the contact stated the dashboarddisintegrated. The dealership stated there was no recall, and the vehicle was not under warranty. The contact will have to pay for it.this hashappened for six months.no repairs have been made at this time.
My 1999 dodge ram truck dashboard had shattered/cracked in many locations. I had to replace it at my cost. I was of concern of its interference with my air bag deployment. So i had it replaced. The plastic material used on the dodge trucks dries out and becomes brittle . Those saving people within nhtsa would just make some simple observation while stopping at a red light or stoppingsign driving to work they would notice the many damaged dodge truck dashboards.
Dash board is cracking and breaking apart for no reason, i'm afraid pieces are going to fall in and cause electrical malfunction.will this cause airbags not to deploy correctly?
Dashboard cracked inand bumpers faded within one year of new vehicle.
My 1999 dodge ram 1500 dash is weathered and cracked badly. This seems to be a very common thing among dodge rams of this age. I fear that in a crash situation the dash could be very harmful when dislodged. The edges of the cracks are very sharp and would become airborn very easily in an impact.
Dash is cracking and collapsing inside of vehicle.small electrical fire that i caught early enough for either the dash cutting wires, or from them baking in the sun.
1999 dodge ram 1500. Dash has cracked all over, and has fallen through in places.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with a severely cracked dash and recently my daughter cut her hand on it.how the ntsb can say that this widespread problem is not a vehicle occupant hazard is beyond me.someone needs to force chrysler corp to fix / replace these dash skins before someone gets seriously hurt..
1999 dodge ram 1500 have had 2 dashes in it both have cracked the entire length of dasheveryone i know that has one of these trucks has had the same problem dealer would not do anything about it since out of warranty.
Dash is all cracked up and needs repaired. Its been getting progressively worse.
1999 dodge ram 1500 dashboard cracking into large pieces causing sharp edgesexposed on the dashboard.also large pieces falling under dash on top of passenger airbag which could cut airbag.an person can and will be seriously injured from the sharp edges and debris from these manufacturing flawed dashboards.possibility of the passenger airbag failing due to being cut by failed dashboard. This is a safety issue!!
1999 dodge truck 1500 dashboard cracking driving along and a piece of the dashboard flew off the dashboard and hit me right between the eyes is the government waiting till someone gets killed or maimed before they make chrysler do something about this problem now now now and now read the internet.
1999 dodge ram dash cracking which could lead to failure of electricalsafety functions such as air bags, headlights and windshield wipers.dodge and dodge dealerships are aware of this problem due to thetremendous number of complaints. Reports of large chunks falling intoelectrical wiring.
Dash board collapsed causing electrical problems on 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup.
Cracked dashboard. Its dangerous because the edges are very sharp. I have already change it once but the same problem happened again. Suggesting a recall on dodge ram cracked dashboards.
The dash in this truck has broken to pieces.this is not an issue of sun exposure or climate--it is simply defective materials.now when the truck is driven with the window(s) open sharp pieces of dash plastic fly up hitting the driver and passenger in the face.additionally the electronics for the passenger air bag is now exposed to sun and possible moisture.
1999 dodge ram 1500:the dashboard continues to crack and cave-in.a 10- 12 inch diameter section has cracked and fallen in.dealer will not repair.
While driving at any speed, when the vehicle hit a bump, pieces of the dash board flakes off.there are numerous cracks running through out the dash board.the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem.*ph
Broken and cracked dashboard.
Dash cracked on passenger side from defrost vent to the air bag on passenger side.the vehicle is a '99 dodge p/u 1500.
Purchased a 1999 dodge 1500 with approximately 49k miles on it in 2004.have had continual problem with dash breaking.it is now to the point that i feel the passenger side airbag will be impaired or even become lethal if it deployed.this appears to be a defect with numerous other owners having the same complaint.dodge has refused to help correct problem.this makes it potentially hazardous for a front seat passenger.i am afraid with the condition of the dash at this point serious bodily injury may occur due to its condition.it almost appears that the default has caused the position of the dash to change subsequently changing the position of the airbag.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed that the dashboard was cracked and over time it had increased in size. The contact also stated that he experienced electrical problems with his stereo due to the crack in the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
My dash on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 truck is collapsing.pieces are falling inside by the heater core.there does not seem tobe any apparent reason for this to happen.there are other dodge trucks out there that this is happening to also.
1999 dodge ram 1500 dashboard falling apart. When i turned the defroster on something flew out and hit me in the face. Later i found a small piece of the dash in my lap. This could have hit me in the eye. Dash is falling completely apart.
The dash on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab is cracking all over. It is beginning to fall apart. This is my only vehicle (one that i baby) and i am its only owner.i am concerned about the safety on not only myself, but also my passengers. If we were to be in a wreck, i am not sure that the sharp plastic wouldn't break off and hurt us.
My dash has a hole around foot long and more then 6inch wide do to the sun drying out its very then and cheap plastic the cup holders are broke to i have had older cars and truck were the dash cracks but i've never had one with a hole in it and my dash keeps cracking and falling a part im happy with my truck but fill dodge needs fix these problems i plan to drive my truck for many more years to come and would like to see these problems solved and not at the owners expense.
My 1999 dodge ram truck 1500 began getting cracks on the dash in 2006.i reported it and was told there is not anything that can be done since it is not a recalled part.since that time i have a huge opening on my dash and continues to get larger every day.i am concerned about safety issues such as air bag, electrical system, steering wheel, power brakes.i am a single mother with this as my primary and only vehicle and well i need not tell you what you already know...i can not afford to be w/o transportation nor w/o safety regarding my vehicle.
1999 dodge ram quad cab plastic dashboardhas developed many cracks.1999 dodge ram quad cab has developed steering clunk.
I purchased my 99 dodge truck in 2001 and have always maintained it.about 2 years ago i noticed a crack develop on the dash.this crack has grown and spider out and now the entire dash is broken into pieces.i have covered the dash with a plastic cover because dodge would not repair the issue.the entire dash has continued to crack under my cover and will eventually crumble to pieces.i think this is a safety hazard.
The front dash is beginning to form serious cracks. Car is at about 110k miles and the problem is dramatically escalating, with about 5-7 cracks now.
My dash board is cracking day after day and it keeps getting worse. It started above the air bag section and i'm worried after some time if this may have some safety issue problems. The quality of the dash board is cheaply made.
I have a 1999 dodge ram with 88,000 miles on it. The truck is always kept in the garage and in perfect condition except the '!@#$% dash board. On aug 11 2009 i was driving down the block and a pc of the dash cracked of hitting me in the eye!!!!!!!! i lost control for a second and ended up on the parkway grass! thank god no one was playing in there yard cause for a moment i was unable to see! i didn't know i needed to wear safety glasses while driving a chrysler made product!! i took the truck to the dealer i bought it from and he said"ill give you a good deal on a new one! why do i want another pc of '!@#$% from them? start standing behind your product and maybe i would buy another ! i cant let anyone else drive this and im afraid to as well, fearing what other part of the dash is going to fly off next! there are cracks all over it from the windshield to the gauges from side window to side window! this must be replaced!!!
The driver noticed that the top of the dashboard, on the passenger's side was cracked.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the dashboard needed to be replaced.the mechanic also suggested that the problem had been in bind since assembly, popped in several places and he was unable to anything about it at the time.the dash had developed several lengthy cracks and one of the cracks had infringed the drivers side air bag.the consumer was informed by a representative of chrysler that the vehicle was out of warranty and that chrysler would not do anything to help with this problem. *sc
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with 64,000 miles. Just recently i have noticed that the dash developed a crack that grew in length on the drivers side. Now there is a nother crack on the passenger side of the truck. The crack on the drivers side goes from the windshield all the way to the top of the dash. The other one isn't that big but it is starting to get bigger.
Cracked dashes may lead to ripped airbags on deployment.
The dash in this vehicle is cracking and falling apart apparently from exposure to sunlight. This could result in serious injury from exposure to sharp objects located under the dash and could cause plastic shards to be embedded in ones face and eyes should the airbags deploy in an accident. I have been told that a replacement from dodge will do the same thing and will cost me about $1200 to replace. I have also found out that almost all 1999 dodge ram's have this same problem as do other year ram's.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 and the dash is completely broken out. I had electrical problems after the piece fell inside dash. Right now i just have a piece of cloth over the hole to keep the sun off the wiring. The sharp edges are dangerous if i was ever involved in a crash.
Dashboard of 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad 4x4 has huge crack running from the windshield to the glove box over the passenger side airbag. Truck has not been offroad, wrecked, or hit anything to cause this crack. At this time i am unsure about what effect this crack may have on the deployment of the passenger airbag.
Cracked dashboard in dodge truck.

1999 ram 1500 dashboard cracked front to back near pass. Side airbag.vehicle and interior kept in immaculate condition with only 66k miles and crack appeared without any occurrence.cost of dash replacement prohibitive.
Dashboard is falling apart pieces are coming off if an accident were to occur i might be hit by a flying object in the eye and not be able to minimize damage on my 1999 dodge ram the company should be responsible for this repair.
The dash is cracked with sharp plastic pieces all over.
I have a 1999 dodge 1500 ram truck.at 38,000 miles the dashboard cracked in one place, then it spread all across the dash.i had a full "after market" warranty but it would not cover it.i called dodge hqs as well as dealers.all told me it was not something they would cover.my only solution was to use "super glue" and put a carpet dash cover over the ugly mess.
I have a 1999 dodge 1500 with 79,000 miles on it .about 5 years ago my dash started to crack i now havea large hole in my dash and can see the air bag material .i'm thinking this could be dangerous.dodge won't do anything .i bought this truck new.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 pick-up.the dashboard starting cracking a couple of years ago, and now there are some big pieces missing, and the dashboard looks horrible.
The vehicle's upper dash has developed six major and separate cracks which poses a possible hazard.it is an apparent defect most likely within the process of molding the dash.in the molding process, if the molten plastic is not the proper temperature, or formulated properly, then the dash will develop "stress cracks", which are straight lines, not webbing.additionally, these cracks are neither caused by sun or protectorant nor heavy use or environment. Main concern:further cracking can and will lead to the dashboard failing and falling into the wiring, possibly causing a short or fire.electrical failure could cause a fatality due to the deploying of the air bags in a manner not related to an automobile accident via a short (two wires touching), or the failure of the headlamps during darkness, or the failure of the windshield wipers at speed during heavy rain. I have contacted the manufacturer to see if they will address this inherent flaw in theproduct.
1999 dodge laramie 1500 quad 4x4. Dash has cracked and broke into pieces and fallen into dash wiring harnesses. Currently has only affected the front speakers. Concerns about the airbag and headlamp wires located in the same area.
The dashboard has came all apart. From 1998 to 2004 this has been a night mare for owners. I will not buy another dodge for safety reasons people could be struck while driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dash is severely cracked.
1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab.dashboard deteriorated and has finally resulted in large voids and sharp edges being exposed to the passenger compartment.the mounting location for the passenger side airbag has deteriorated to the point where the airbag can fall out.
I currently own a 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup and mechanically it has been a pretty good car.however, about a year ago, my dash started cracking and has since developed multiple cracks that run from the front of the dash to the windshield!!i've witnessed many other dodge pick-up trucks with the same issue and some have big chunks of plastic that have broken out of the dash.i'm concerned that wiring will be exposed, the plastic as it breaks off in chunks will fall down into the dash and cause problems!i really believe that dodge had a problem with the plastic used in the dashes of their pickup trucks during this time period.they should pay to have these dashes replaced!!thanks!
Cracked dash.
Dashboard falling apart.gaping hole in the middle, and continues to get worse.
1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck. Cracked dashboard all to pieces.there are many large cracks throughout the dashboard all over.
Dash cracked to pieces after showing numerous apparent cracks for some time.
The dashboard is cracking and it is a safety hazard.
Entire dash is completely cracked and gone. Front instrument cluster has nothing to attach to and falls off when i drive.
Dashboard on a dodge ram 1500 cracked and caved in.dodge had hundreds of complaints.it wasa hazard because of exposed wiring.
Dashboard cracked in 2 different areas.one crack is inline with the steering wheel.the other is inline with the passenger air bag.both run from the windshield back towards the seat.
My 1999 dodge ram dashboard just seemed to explode one morning in 2006. There were no apparent cracks before incident.just all of a sudden the whole dash cracked and big pieces of it fell off leaving large holes in the top of dash.
Dashboard is cracking and caving in 1999 dodge ram pick-up truck. Dealer refused to take care of problem.
There was no events leading up to it, the dash just cracked. The failure was that the dash cracked in 4 different places and is in danger of falling in or coming apart. It was brought to a dodge dealer in vero beach and they did nothing about it.
Among the thousands of dodge owners, my dash has imploded. It started in jan. While using the defrosters. Cracks just appeared from the defrosters out the entire dash. I have been trying to find a replacement without luck. Now the heater core and condenser were replaced and there isn't enough of the dash left to put a cover over. My wife read the complaints about the dashes and airbag failures, and refuses to ride in the truck with me for fear of the airbag and/or projectiles coming from the dash.
The dashboard is disintegrating.there are several large cracks that go from windshield to front of dash along with other areas that have actual holes from cracking.
Was driving down the road about 48 mph and the hood flew up and bent my hood hinges.
I have purchased a 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport.the dash has had a problem in the past and cracked and split.i have replaced it but expect that it will happen again.the problem is when this occurs during an accident, there is the potential for the broken pieces of the brittle plastic to become shrapnel and puncture or become a flying projectile in the cab of the vehicle.if it is caught by the airbag, the speed can be accelerated when the airbag deploys.when will nhtsa issue a recall on the dashboard of these trucks.the bezel and the glovebox's are also splitting as well.when can the recall be expected.i have noted before that this problem exist on nhtsa's website under several categories..it is a safety issue if the dash cracks or breaks off during an accident.owners are waiting for a recall so that they do not continue to have to pull money out of there pocket to fix repairs on items that should not have a problem.
1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup, while driving around 35-45 mph usually on a downhill grade the entire vehicle will begin to shake, the only word to describe it is violently and will not subside until you can get the speed below 20mph but you can not just apply the breaks or the shaking become uncontrollable,i have replace most of the suspension(control arms, ball joints ect.)nothing works.this has happened multiple times! i've talked to others and there is a name for it, dodge death wobble.also i am another victim of the dodge dash cancer, in the last couple of years my dash has basically disintegrated....considering bringing a class action lawsuit
The air bag warning light stays on all the time.the dash cracked and pieces fell into the electrical systems.the ball joints failed.all around 120,000 to 130,000 miles. The fuel injectors began to fail at 120,000 miles.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they detected the front passenger side of the frame exhibited holes and substantial rust. In addition, the front driver's side frame was in the beginning stage of rusting. The technician stated the vehicle not be driven due to a potential safety hazard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

The vehicle was inspected by an auto glass technician who replaced the windshield. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
Dashboardcracked and fell apart, putting pieces of plastic into the vents. This a dangerous when putting on the vent and having plastic blowing all over. Chrysler knows about this defect and hasdone nothing'.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact noticed that the entire center of the dashboard was fractured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
The dash started cracking more and more for no reason at all. Now there are chunks of the dash that have fallen behind the dash. This could damage the wiring or circuitry or air bags behind the dash because the pieces that have fallen have very sharp edges.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard on had become brittle and stared to crack. The contact also stated that any time a hand was placed on the dashboard, it fractured. The dealer stated that there was no remedy for the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 53,000. The vin was not available.
A part of the dash of my 1999 dodge ram , dislodged from its position atop of my dash. The dash of the vehicle is cracked and caving in like all dodge dashes this year and model. I was accelerating from a stop on a hill, when a piece dislodged from it position on my dash, and cut me in the left side of my face below my left eye, this could have blinded me, and i know the nhtsa, would never allow a vehicle with large sharp abs plastic pieces flying around the cabin. The abs plastic dash is in horrible condition, it is cracked and fallen in and pieces fly out all the time. I am prepared to sue chrysler corp. If this is not addressed by the nhtsa, thank you
1999 dodge ram 1500 hood latch recall can not open the hood, latch is broken, missing or malfunctioned

Dash pieces falling into heater vents and other components.
I was driving down the 131 south about 9 o'clock going about 70 mph and the hood somehow opened and flew back on my windshield and smashed it. Hit the brakes and veered off the road. Scared the crap out of me took about 20 minutes to bring the hood back down to strap it. The hinges snapped on one side and ripped and bent corners of the hood. This truck has 123k on it with no rust on the hood or mechanisms. If this will not be taken care of free of charge i will not be a happy camper.. I work on cars i know how to lube hood latches i also know how to close hoods. My vin doesn't pull up a recall but this happened as a manufacturers error and i hope this will be professionally taken care of free of charge . Before i bought this truck i had checked for recalls. If this were to have popped up on my vin this would have never happened. I'm just glad i could get it off the road safely.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard was fractured on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that armour oil might have weakened the structure of the dashboard and caused the failure. The contact stated that armour oil was never used on the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The plastic dash broke in several places while driving on a rough road. This also affected the vin plate causing one rivet to be dislodged and causing problems registering it. In some areas it is considered vin tampering even though it was not my fault.
The dash top on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup cracked into little pieces and fell into the lower half of my dash. When i talked to dodge about this problem they said they could not help me my truck was over the warranty. This should never have happened i drive this truck like a car always taken care of never wrecked or off road. I thought this just happened to mine until i went on the internet and learned there are hundreds if not thousands of us with the same problem. Model years 1997-2003. Please tell me what your going to do for us. Do you know about this ? will you make this a recall? will you stand by us? please let me know. Dodge turned there back on us. Don't let them get away with this. Thank you.
Bumperwas poorly designed. Bumper was pushing under the location at a 5or less mph impact. Feel free to provide any further information concerning this matter.
Consumer was concerned that rust/corrosion was noticed around the striker plate. Dealer was not notified.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.while driving 55 mph, the hood popped open and shattered the windshield.the entire fender and grill were bent.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or mechanic.the failure mileage was 183,000.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.the contact stated that the hood suddenly flew open while the vehicle was in motion.the speed was unknown.the dealer diagnosed the failure as the hood latch assembly.the contact was informed that there was a recall.however, thisvehicle was not included.the current and failure mileages were 61,000.
While driving, the hood popped open.
Rust spots in 1999 dodge ram pickup- service advisor called it rail dust, but won't buff from paint. Owners son acknowledges rust in paint.owners son and i talked to owner, he said tha theneeds to geta manafacturer's representative in on it . Was told by owners son on feb 8 chrysler rep would not offer to replace truck, but have it repainted. This is unacceptablesince it's a new truck with 800 miles, 212 of which was on odometer already from dealer . I need help or information because i don't want a new repainted truck. I want a replacement truck . Truck is now at dealer pending manafacture representative's decision. I didnt want to put on a lot of miles so told dealer to keep it.help me with this problem.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that the front frame detached from the vehicle while driving 30 mph. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who examined the vehicle and found that the front frame was corroded, which caused the frame and the steering box to separate from the vehicle. The mechanic advised the vehicle was not repairable. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 43,000.
Contact stated: 1999 dodge ram 1500 truck. Hood popped up at 45 mph. Secondary latch did not catch, it just went right up. Did not hit a bump in the road.vehicle was on smooth road. Also, had to have the whole front end/ rear end andtransmission rebuilt.
Vehicle wheel almost layed down.brand new front tires wore down.*tcthe ball joints failed, which caused the problem with the tires.the dashboard cracked and the consumer had it replaced at a cost of $525.00.
The vehicle pulls to the right side of the road at speeds over 50 mph if the steering wheel is released.a continuous down force on the left side of the steering wheel has to be maintained if the vehicle is to remain in a straight line down a straight road.if i release the steering wheel while going in a straight line down the road, the steering wheel will rotate about 1/4 inch in a clockwise direction and the vehicle leaves the road in anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds depending on the level of the road.this issue is consistent 100 % of the time.the amount of downforce on the left side of the steering wheel to maintain the vehicle in a straight direction down a straight road various with the level of the road but is continuous.the vehicle's front end has been aligned by the dealer four times.i have also gotten an opinon about the vehicles steering and alignment from a firestone dealer.the dodge dealer's service manager (billy duncan) did not document the third and fourth alignment and the service manager (billy duncan) refuses to achnowledge that there is a problem.i spoke to the dealership's technician (mike) that performed the alignment all four times at the dealership.he states that the vehicle does indeed pull to the right and that he has aligned the vehicle four times in an attempt to cure the problem.he states that he does not know what is causing the problem and on the fourth alignment he had to adjust the front left wheel caster adjustment out of specifications in order to acheive marginal results.he also stated that because the alignment is now out of specs., i may experience an additional 1/16" tire wear on the left front tire during the life of the tires.i had the alignment checked at a firestone dealer prior to the third and fourth alignment by the dealership.the firestone dealer said the the alignment was in specifications, yet the vehicle still pulls to the right.at the present time, the vehicle now "drifts" to the right side.
Am on third engine each time oil pump failed, and now this one is acting up, powertrain end of year built truck has a lot of 2000 parts on it, rear end seized up drive shaft broke rear yoak split in two, suspension tie rods and idle arms always breaking, two break disks 1 left side 1 right side broke, left one split right down the middle, the right side the center of the hub broke right out at the bearings riped right out
This low mileage (64k)1999 dodge ram 1500 has developed a death wobble.usual symptoms, hit small bump in road at 60 + mph and shake and shutter until slow to 20-30 mph to regain control.this is extremely dangerous and i do not know what to do about it.
The air bag warning light stays on all the time.the dash cracked and pieces fell into the electrical systems.the ball joints failed.all around 120,000 to 130,000 miles. The fuel injectors began to fail at 120,000 miles.
1999 dodge ram experiencing problems with the brakes and the catalytic converter.*mr 1 year old and not on repository. When the brakes were applied a light on the dash illuminated.the dealer stated there was no problem with the brakes.the consumer took the vehicle to another mechanic, who stated he was sold a vehicle with no brakes.the mechanic stated the vehicle needed to front brakes with shims, front rotors, two front calipers, bearings, two rear shoes, two rear hardware, two drums and two rear wheel cylinders.the vehicle jerked when the consumer placed the gear into reverse.
Consumerhas to continuously fight to keep vehicle onroad. Took vehicle to dealer, and they replacedsteering box. But problem reoccurred, andvehicle has been at dealers6 times since then.

Wanders, and requires constant steering corrections from driver.
Bolt attaching lower shock mount to lower a-arm has to great a threaded length causing the threads to bear on the lower a-arm, causing the threads to be ground down and the hole in the a-arm through which the bolt passes to be fretted and enlarged excessively. The wear of the a-arm could result in cracking of the a-arm due to fatigue. Wear of the bolt threads could cause excessive bending of the bolt and premature failure of the bolt causing loss of control.
Front end drive and suspension also steering column move and make a noise while driving making it feel like the front suspension is going to give way.
The intake gasket leaked, there was a knocking sound coming from vehicle, engine oil had leaked along with a smoke odor, and there was uneven tire wear.scc
The truck continuously pulls to the right above fifty (50) miles an hour.after two separate attempts to correct the alignment, the truck was returned to the original place of purchase for repair where i was told by the service advisor ( tracy krumpleman) that because my truck was lowered it won't be guaranteed to hold an alignment. I then stated that the truck was sold to me with the aforementioned suspension modification from the same dealership that he is now working for , and the service advisor ignores this fact and restates that the truck won't hold an alignment because it's been lowered.
While driving the vehiclewanders between the lines in the highway. The front track is out. The consumer took the vehicle to be aligned however that has not remedied the problem. Nlm
Vehicle rockes back and forth at highway speeds, upon hitting uneven pavement, like bad shocks.dealer says they can't feel it, my wife won't drive the truck.dealer contacted dodge.dodge says there is not a problem.i have talked to another dodge owner, that traded his dodge off at 4500 miles because of the way it handled.which was similar to the way mine does, but his was a 2500.dealer said they could fix the problem by putting heavy duty shocks on this vehicle, but was told they couldn't get shocks to fit this new truck.why have to put after market shocks on a brand new truck?when driving this truck in a tight corner, it feels like it is going to throw you off the road.i am at this time in the proccess of arbitration for other problems, so dodge will say i am just causing problems but the handling i belive is a safety concern, that dodge is not addressing.
Upon purchasing the vehicle it pulled to the right.i took the vehicle back to the dealer two times for alignment issues and it was out of alingment both times and during the second visit i was told that the vehicle was going to pull do to the way the roads are built.while changing a flat i notices that the upper arm on the vehicle was rusting at the weld.i took the vehicle to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with the vehicles a arm even with the evidence of the weld rusting and a visible crack which can be verified by sliding a thread of string through it.
There is a popping noise when turning to the left. The dealer says the front passenger tire keeps wearing faster. Also, dealer states the ball joints are bad.
Popping sound heard coming from driver side front wheel area.i asked the dealer to inspect the vehicle while performing normal maintenance.the service department informed me that both left and right side top and bottom ball joints had failed and that i should immediately have them replaced.the 1999 dodge ram 1500 has less than 70000 miles.it has not been driven off road.it primarily has been driven to school and home approximately 6 miles round trip untill 2 years ago.the mileage that is on the vehicle is either in town or interstate.the vehicle has been serviced every 3,000 miles and has had periodic maintenace performed in accordance with the manual.i don't understand unless the parts were defective when the vehicle was purchased new.seems there is other failures of this type affecting durangos and dakotas.
The ball joints are also defective, but this is an 1999 dakota.i have went through eight tres in th front and can hear the ball joints squeak.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 45 mph, there was a loud thud heard and the steering became inoperable.the vehicle went off the road, hitting a tree on the passenger side between the door and bed of the truck.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then seen by an independent repair shop.the repair shop determined the upper ball joint on the passenger side and the wheel bearing fractured, causing the steering to lock up.the manufacturer was alerted.
While driving down the road whether it is 20 or 60mph,when loosening up on the steering wheel it will pull extremely hard to the right.when driving long distance, driver has to fight the steering wheel in order to hold it.it has been in the shop eight times.they have replaced front brakes, and shocks.
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500.i noticed the vehicle was pulling to the right and brought the vehicle in for an alignment.i was notified my tires were unusable and that the front trac/sway bar was defective.the mechanic told me there is a design flaw in the trac bar on that vehicle and it is a common problem.i should not have to replace a sway bar and tires on a vehicle with only 28,000 miles on it.dodge should put out an immediate recall on the sway bar as people will have quickly deteriorating tires that could cause a lot of accidents.
Consumer has had to replace front wheel bearing again. He just replaced them 3 wks. Ago. Also, mechanic stated that bearings were too small for truck, and as a result they were wearing out faster.

Consumer replaced a set of front wheel bearings approximately 3 weeks ago. Currently, need to replace them again.consumer was told by mechanic thatbearings were too small for truck and that was why they were wearing so fast.
Serious bounce of rear at all speeds. Will be unsafe on roads with loose material or ice. District rep inspected and says aware of problem. Chrysler cannot fix and is normal for this vehicle. I was told i had no recourse on this problem and that was final.

99 dodge ram with cracking dash pad. Pad has been replaced and now is cracking again.
Cracking and breaking dash board on my 99 dodge ram 1500. Cracking for no apparent reason. Vehicle looks like hell. I will never purchase another dodge product. This seems to be a very big problem and dodge is failing to correct the problem.the cracks have been present for over two years now.
Where do i send a detailed description of my problems? no safety defec t mentioned in summary.
Dashboard cracking issue.i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport. Two years after purchasing the vehicle i noticed a crack in my dashboard. I took it to dodge and they said that i broke it and there was nothing they could do. Over time since the dash has cracked it has gotten worse. There are several large cracks in the dash as well as a huge chunk missing right above the instrument cluster. This causes a glare in the windshield that is dangerous and may cause a wreck. There isexposed wiring in the dash that may short out, due to parts of the dash falling on it or the heat of the sun. This may cause either the air bag to deploy, wipers not tofunction properly during use in rainy conditions, or the headlights not working during the night that could result in a crash injuring an occupant. I have already noticed sun fading on the wiring. I keep it covered with a towel to reduce the risk of sun exposure. The vehicle has been keep in my garage most of its life. There are 5 dodge ram's in my family and they all have this issue. This is not a isolated incident with these trucks and is not my fault. I paid over 22,000 dollars for this truck in 2000 and it only has 135,000 miles on it. I keep my vehicle very well maintained and clean . Every dodge ram on the road that i see has this issue. So there are thousands of trucks out there with this issue. They are all hazardous to operate in the present condition . I hope that it does not take someone getting hurt by this issue for it to get resolved. The resolution: it is my opinion thatthe ntsb make dodge issue a recall for the dashboard problem. The consumer should be able to make an appointment with their local dealer. The part should be replaced with not cost to the owner of the vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation for the driver/passenger of the vehicle as well as other motorist around the subject vehicle.
Oil is should be changed every 3000 miles, consumerneeded oil before the 3000 miles. Oil gauge was reading oil 2 quarts low.consumer felt oil was going up intointake manifold. Please provide any further information.

The dash of my 1999 dodge ram 1500 has cracked very bad. To the point i'm afraid it could affect the air bag. Has there been any test on the air bags with the dash being cracked?
We were driving down the highway and smelt smoke. We pulled over, i looked under the vehical and there was a fire near the gas tank. I tried to splash water on it but had no luck. Knowing the fire was near the gas tank we got away from the truck and called 911.
The dashboard started cracking near the center of dash and going down to where the dash meets the windshield.over the next couple of years, the dash continued to crack in the shape of a spider web until pieces started falling down inside the dash.now there's a large hole in the dash in front of the driver's seat/steering wheel approximately 14" long and 8" wide and it's continuing to crack and disintegrate; all the mechanics inside the dash are now exposed.it is my belief this is a manufacturer defect since there are hundreds of other owners with the same situation in their dodge vehicles.

Dash of a 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab!!
In march of 2003 i noticed that the dashboard of my dodge ram truck was beginning to crack. Within a few more months, the cracks had spread over the entire surface so the pieces could easily be removed.
Dashboard first cracked then totally disintegrated and collapsed inside the dash
Consume rwas traveling on the highway and noticed engine check light coming on. Vehicle was inrepair shop eight times, andvehicle will shut down without prior notice.
Dashboard began cracking within first 3 years. Now has gotten so bad that is has large holes. Concerned about possibility of causing airbag failure. Have spoken to dealerships and been told is common but not their problem.
Dash cracked out of nowhere.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.the contact stated that the entire dashboard was cracking into multiple pieces.he did not notice any differences in the dashboard prior to the failure.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current mileage was 82,000 and failure mileage was 75,000.
At about 180,000 miles the dash cracked and within 3,000 miles the center of the dash completely fell in and keeps breaking more.
My truck dash on my 1999 dodge ram is cracked in about 20 different pieces.this started about 4 years ago and i brought it to the attention of my local dodge dealer and they said it was a common problem, but was not recalled.it has gotten worse over the years.chrysler/dodge says this is an isolated problem in a press release, but it is not.i am a police officer and have stopped an estimated 50-75 dodge ram trucks from around this year and have yet to see a single one that does not have a cracked dash.i have seen a recent news story about this on my local news and have seen thousands of complaints on the internet.
Cracked dash on my 99 dodge ram.could lead to airbag deployment?
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 that has a cracked dash board. Every week the cracks grow and increase in number. The cracks are connecting to each other now and is making holes in the dash. I'm getting concerned that if it keeps cracking at this rate that the air bag may be exposed and if it were to deploy in an accident that the sharp cracked pieces may turn into projectiles. It may also deploy with out reason.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 that has a cracked dash. I'm a member of a dodge enthusiast web site where i have found this to be a common thing. Most member with a 2nd generation dodge ram have a cracked dash. With this many people with the same problem it has to be a factory defect.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 5.9l v8 sports magnum.i e acquired my vehicle around july 2006 and i have noticed since that there is a crack on the dash and gradually cracked all over the places and pieces falling off inside the dash and i'm afraid that those pieces in the dash will fly off at high speed during collision or sudden stop from high speed and would cause injuries to the driver and passenger.i have owned other trucks/vehicles and none of those trucks/vehicle have this crack in the dash.it seems that this particular model/year of dodge ram 1500 has an inferior or defect in manufacturing this dash.do we have to wait for this accident to happen so that we can see if the cracked dash pieces will fly off at high speed and injure the driver and passengers?this cracked dash definitely needs to be replaced by the manufacturer.i've seen some crack dashes on other trucks/vehicles before but those crack does not turn the dashes into jigsaw puzzle and pieces falling apart and flying off the dash itself. My 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 5.9l v8 sports magnum seems to have a crack dash with inferior quality which breaks apart easily and cause possible injuries to the driver and passenger.
Dash had two small cracks in dash when purchased used in 2010. Since then, these cracks have multiplied and have become larger, with pieces breaking out, leaving sharp edges. Some pieces are falling into area of passenger air bag, possibly causing a cut in components. This is a very common problem with the ram pickup trucks during several years. I had same problem with my 2002 ram, on which chrysler corp. Paid partially for dash replacement. This situation could very well be considered a safety issue.
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 extended cab truck. The dash board has 3 cracks that lead from the windshield to airbags and to the cage cluster, and many other small cracks. The cracks have spread further and further in the past months and the dash is starting to raise in some spots along the crack line.
Dashboard on 1999 dodge ram 1500 pickup falling apart.
Dashboard falling apart very dangerous could cause serious injury or death big cracks starting to fall in could cause electrcal problems if in an accident could get shards of plastic in eyes and face
My truck just cut off wouldnt start back run straight wire from ignitionchanged ignition relay nothing next run straight wire from relay to battery it started up i have no o/d and have to shift by hand sometimes truck stalls but starts right back up been this way since 2010 truck has 55000 miles on it.
Driving 30 mph sudden strong smell of gasoline then visible white fog of vapor rose from defrost vents (defroster/fan not on) pulled over immediately but brake pedal went to floor with no activation of brakes.all this happened quickly, within 10 secondsused emergency brake to stop vehicle to evacuate 10 year old daughter and self barely in time.bystander shouting that it was on fire.fire erupted from under hood and spread into cab.fire dept. Called by bystander as we used fire extinguishers unsuccessfully.truck was engulfed and destroyed.recalls were addressed spring of 2003.a later recall not realized by us includes fix for antilock brake controller corrosion that could cause fire. Geico claim # 0480694490101028 but no compensation, as not covered for fire.fire dept. Took a report, police said no collision so they didn't.i don't currently have the fire dept. Report but may be able to obtain it.
Entire dash is cracking and falling apart.chunks are getting into electrical wiring harness and may cause safety malfunction. Front window defroster not able to work correctly causing visual impairment.i am a ph.d. Polymer chemist and this is obvious safety - manufacturing defect
While driving engine checklight will come on. Then, had taken to dealer where they had replaced it. Few months later, had happened againwhile driving.engine checklight came on brigther. Then stalled, and vehicle caught on fire.please provide more information.
Cracked dashboardcan cause airbag to malfunction?i have been told that this is a problem with dodge ram 1500year 1999second generation.
The dashboard started with a small crack on the passenger side and it has expanded to many cracks, with pieces falling into the dash itself.i am afraid that these pieces will cause a malfunction of lights or whatever is down there, while i'm driving.my truck isn't the only one with this problem.from what i understand, most 1999 dodge rams have this problem.i don't see why the company is not obligated to fix this.
1999 dodge ram 1500 with dissintigrating dash board leading to electrical malfunctions. When multiple dealers were asked about the problem the answers given were always "because it is not a mechanical problem, then it is not a warrenty issue." was also told that since it was not a mechanical problem that it won't be a recall matter unless it might cause a safety issue.
The drivers door will not open
Dash cracked on my 1999 dodge ram...this should be a recall.
Dashboard has broken into 30 pieces
Dash is severely cracked in the area of the windshield and a large crack runs down to the vent beside the passenger airbag.i used(armor-all), sunscreens, lowering the windows slightly to allow heat to escape all with no avail.my concern now is if the passenger airbag deploys, will it send pieces of the hard plastic dash flying?i can't seem to find an original that is not cracked.this is on a 99 ram and started cracking about 3 yrs. After i bought it.
The dash has split down the middle from the windshield. I feel this may compromise the safety of myself and passengers in an accident. It might affect the air bags operating correctly.
Engine light came on started missingand between two dealer ships they cant figure out whats wrong. I
I have a 99 dodge ram 1500. The dash is broken in so many different pieces. I looked down in one of the holes that are now in my dash and saw a piece resting on some wires. If left there i could see how after time it could wear through the insulation on multiple wires and cause them to arc or get hot and possibly cause a fire. Is this right that dodge has done nothing about it and will not do anything for the consumer when contacted ? there should be a recall on the dash , but thats my 2 cents i guess.
Cruise control failed.nlm
The contact was driving the brother-in-laws 1999 dodge ram 1500. They stated that while attempting to reverse out of their driveway, the vehicles accelerator pedal self increased to approximately 40 mph although the driver had his foot on the brake pedal the vehicle would not stop. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle and hit the house across the street of their home. There were no warning lights which illuminated prior or after. The contacts neighbor experienced a minor injury. The contact stated that even when the vehicle was at a stand still the rpm were extremely high and the vehicle had to be turned off. The vehicle was towed to the owners home and there was a police report filed.a dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000. The vin was not available.
The cruise control was set while i was driving on the indiana toll-road, it had been snowing and was somewhat slick. All of a sudden the cruise control kicked the truck into passing gear and increased acceleration. This happened with very little head wind and no incline. When this happened, the trucks rear tires broke loose and i nearly lost control of the vehicle. The dodge rep. Said " it is suppose to do that."
*ml

While attempting toaccelerating to 40 mph and pulling out a parking lot the throttle stuck in the open position. When this occurreddriver immediately put the vehicle in neutral. The engine continued to race, but the vehicle coasted to a complete stop. A friend/handy man found where the throttle was hung, and twitched it back down.
While driving at 20-25mph took foot off the accelerator, and vehicle remained at the same speed.contacted dealer they said nothing waswrong.
Intermittently, while driving the vehiclebetween 80 to 90 mph, the throttle cable stuck. Thedealer replaced the throttle cable twce and the problem contined.
While at a stop sign with foot on brake vehicle started to accelerate. Engine went full throttle, consumer kept foot on brake, and vehicle stopped accelerating after about 15 seconds. Not taken to dealer yet.

Dt*:the contact stated there was an odor of anti-freeze present in the vehicle a few days after the date of purchase.two days ago anti-freeze leaked through the heater vents in the floor of the vehicle and the windows fogged after the engine warmed for a few minutes.there were no other warning indicators, other than the odor, prior to the failure. The contact inspected the engine and discovered the heater core was ruptured.a hose was attached to bypass the heater core and the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer.
While driving on hwy 67, travelling about 65mph, driver's side window shattered. No evidence of anything hitting the window.driver side window was cracked about 2 or 3 inches.consumer will contact the dealer.
1999 dodge ram dash cracking which could lead to failure of electricalsafety functions such as air bags, headlights and windshield wipers.dodge and dodge dealerships are aware of this problem due to thetremendous number of complaints. Reports of large chunks falling intoelectrical wiring.
Winshield wipers occasionally quit working when first turning them on for use.it did not make a difference if vehicle was running for awhile or just starting vehicle.if wipers were left on even though inoperable, they sometimes started working later.
Also refer to nhtsa complaint 10002464.i was driving my '99 dodge ram and all 5 lugs on the right front wheel sheared off and the wheel came off and careened across a parking lot.the same wheel fell off the same way in 2002.
The contact owns a 1999 dodge ram 1500.the contact heard an unfamiliar noise coming from the front end of the vehicle.he arrived at the dealer and they applied grease to the rear of the vehicle.the contact was charged $111 for the repair, however, the noise still persists.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 117,600.

Vehicles inner wheel well liner/the gas tubing goes down in front of the rear wheel, and without the cover it is open to rocks hitting it. The liner is to protect it, and it is not there. Dealer contacted, and is not aware of the problem, manufacturer cannot duplicate problem.
While traveling at the speed of 55 mph on the highway the left rear wheel broke off the housing unit, causing the vehicle to steer out of control and slide into a stop. Wheel then bounced down the road into therear windshield, and driversustained an injury. Dealer has been contacted.
Truck came with oe wheels-16x7 steel/bright trim ring quantity of 4 plus spare. 3 of the 4 wheels have cracks. This vehicle has never been used adversely nor has it ever been used in any off-road conditions. Mileage is daily driving only. My question is: has there been any related reporting of this defect of these wheels on any other vehicle of the same make, model or different make, model, etc.? should i contact the dealer direct or use my insurance claims adjustment? if you have questions for me directly, please call or email.

Ownercontacted the manufacturer, and was told that the company that manufactured the wheels are not limited wheels. Someone had put the guam name on the wheels . The wheels were made in china, and guam filed bankruptcy, and went out of business. No recall for the substandard wheels.the consumer was told that the company that made the wheels are no longer contracted by them.*tc
