My 1998 dodge ram 1500 pickup has a chronic case of cracked dash. This has been heavily noted from 1998 models through the 2004 models. This is extremely hazardous to passenger safety because if the passenger airbag should deploy the passenger ordriver could be impaled by sharp shards of plastic from the fractured dash. These dashes need to be recalled due to this extreme safety hazard.
I went off the road going about 65 mph and hit a tree, head on.the airbags did not deploy.i was not seriously injured.i have searched the internet and have found that this is not the first incident involving my type of vehicle (dodge ram).

The dodge trucks have a serious defect in their horn system.improper packing of the driver-side air bags renders the horn inoperable.i purchased my 1998 dodge 1500 new in 1998.i have never been able to get the horn to work.dodge dealer in washington said it needed repacked but i was leaving for texas and time was not available to wait for the parts.upon arrival at beaumont, texas i took the truck to mike smith autoplex dodge.the service representative could not blow the horn and said she would order a repack and call me when it came in.two months later i found out from her that the manager canceled it and refusedto fix the horn under the warranty. Every year i wire a micky mouse rig on the column wired directly to the horn to pass inspections.recently had service at mike smith and the same service manager said the horn needed repacked, said crysler had problems with the horns and did not know why the manager had refused to fix it.i have been driving this unsafe truck since 1998 and had many close calls and never able to use the horn to warn vehicles and pedestrians of danger.the manager that refused to fix it admitted that dodge had trouble with the horns on these trucks.after fooling with it for a while he did get it to blow, only time anyone has been able to blow the horn and it took him two hands and a lot of pressure.these trucks are dangerous. *nlm

I had to replace the steering column and cockspring at 62237 miles in oct 2000.my first indication something was wrong was drifting at speed and a grinding noise from the steering column. My choice the first time according to the dodge dealer was to let it go and risk complete failure of the steering or replace it.i replaced it. Now 17 months later in mar 2002 the grinding has returned.while i face the prospect of replacing the steering once again it is not normal for frequent wear and tear of a steering system.i purchased the vehicle in sc, but have since moved to utah.i do not use the vehicle for off-road recreation or for heavy loads.i have only used the vehicle on 3 occasions for towing.any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that there was a recall of defective clocksprings that disabled airbags in certain dodge products (safety recall 982)(nhtsa identification number 01v-153).the recall included vehicles in the vin last 8 digitsws501493 to ws771681.my 1998 dodge ram 1500 has a last eight digits of [xxx].thus, it does fall within the range of recalled vin numbers.however, for some reason my truck is not described as one of those recalled.however, i have an airbag light that is on and the steering wheel mounted cruise control does not work it seems to me that both of these are indications of a defective clockspring just as on the recalled vehicles. I would like to know why i have not received a recall notice and why my vehicle make model and year is not described as recalled even though the last eight vin digits falls within the range of those recalled for this defect.can the recall of this be studied further and expanded to include my vehicle?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dashboard of my 1998 dodge ram pickup unexpectedly started cracking and it is my understanding, this is causing electrical failures which could cause an accident.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that the horn failed. The contact had to apply excessive force to the steering wheel in order for the horn to activate. Drove my 1998 dodge ram 1500 to empty my trash, started back home and had driven less than 1/4 mile when the truck hesitated like it was going to stall out and there was some smoke beginning to come up through dash area on drivers side.thinking i might have a busted radiator hose i immediately pulled over in the yard of person doing repair work on an old building. When i opened my truck door on drivers side flames shot between the inside of the door and seat.i jumped out of the truck but was not injured.the man saw flames shooting from the truck and i was very fortunate he had a fire extinguisher.he kept spraying the truck under the hood and was able to get the fire under control just as the volunteer fire department truck showed up. There were a lot hot spots and the fireman kept spraying it with water until it finally quit smoking. The main part of the fire was right at the front of the cab of the truck below the motor. You could see the fire burning from the side looking through the wheel wells. They said it had to be caused by a faulty gas line because of the location.all the electrical wiring including the wiring harness was melted.thank goodness the man had the fire extinguisher or the whole truck would have burned.very scary incident especially for a woman.
Back in may 08 speed sensor went out then abs sensor went out a few days later causing no power brakes and could have cause my wife to have a wreck. Both replaced.now getting engine codes for o2 sensors and truck sputters and cuts out and will not accelerate over 30 mph.replacedsensors.now receiving codes for pcm and now replacing.this is beginning to concern me.will the next problem cause an accident.

The horn on my 1998 dodge ram 1500 will only blow with about 50 lbs of pressure applied to the steering wheel and only if you push on the exact spot. This is a big safety issue a guy backed out of a parking spot and right into the side of my truck . I tried to blow the horn but i couldn't get it to work until it was to late.
Horn is almost impossible to use due to the excessive amount of force needed to make contact within the horn button.the horn unuseable in emergency situations.
I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500.the dash cracked in several places a couple of years ago along with the bezel.also have a problem with horn, it is very hard to activate when pushed.these items are a concern being near or part of the air bag deployment if in a crash.i believe the dash and bezel are cheaply made and dodge needs to replace these at what ever cost to prevent possible injury if persons are in a crash while operating or riding in their vehicles.
Horn switch failedintermittently.
Horn is hard to blow. Rear end makes whining noise and it started using 5 quarts of oil between oil changes. I only have 36000 miles on it. They replaced manifold intake gasket at my expense. The fuel gauge does not work right. Luckily i didn't ruin the engine that i know of. I understand there have been a lot of problems with intake gaskets. How long does it take to get a recall on defective parts?
The horn is very difficult to use.it must be hit hard at exactly the right spot to function.when in a panic (i.e. When horn use is necessary) it is unlikely that one can hit the right spot.in very cold weather (below freezing) the horn does not work at all.
Horn button is impossible to press to actuate horn.this is my second truck of same year and this is a recurring problem.
The horn is almost impossible to work in an emergency.you have to hit it in exacly the right spot for it to work with a sizable amount of force.i took it to the dealer thinking it was a problem with my vehicle alone.they said they tested it and it was the same as all other horns.i have almost been involved in several accidents because i have not be able to warn a person moving into my lane because i could not get my horn to work.please look into this issue as i feel it poses a threat of danger to anyone who opperates this vehicle.
Consumer noticed in cold weather horn assembly is hard to depress in an emergency.
The horn turned on by itself.the battery was disconnected and the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the dealer stated that horn assembly has to be replaced.
Horn button doesn't work.when it does work, it won't turn off.horn button is connected to the airbag on my truck.
Horn does not work unless you hit it in the right spot and you have to hit it very very hard to the point where it hurts your hand, then some times it still don't work. It is a safety hazard and should be recalled.
In the event of an emergency, the horn button cannot be located without taking eyes off the road
Little horn buttons that aresituated on the steering wheel are too hard to locate, and needs to press in middle of the buttons directly in order to blow the horn, which may be needed inemergency situation.please provide further information.
Horn replaced due to difficulty in engagement.
When driving, the truck makes clicking sound coming from the engine, but before a loss of power is felt. When we first took in the truck, the mechanics at cal worthington said they could not hear anything or feel any loss of power. After they claimed they fixed the problem, the problem kept coming back. After several times they still claimed they did not know what the problem was, until we got furious and upset. They claimed that they knew what the problem was, and they also claimed that most of their trucks had the same problem. Even though we have taken in our truck several times, they have done nothing to stop the noises and loss of power. To this day the problem is still occuring specially when when going up a small ascent. The problem also occurs quite frequently at the 60-70 mph range. We have not figured out what the problem is, but they do.from what we have noticed over the past years that we have taken in the truck for repairs they have done absolutely nothing to stop it.
My son was driving on hwy 78 when the pickup lunged a couple of times.he was going to pull off the road to check for a problem. He had the cruise set so he thought it might be transmission problems.he looked in the rear view mirror for traffic behind him and saw flames and smoke coming from between the cab and the bed.he immediately pulled off and told his finance to get her baby out because they were on fire.when he opened his door the flames errupted into the cab and he had dive out through the flames.the pickup exploded about one minute after they got out.they lost everything in the truck.

Oil pressure gauge dropped to zero and lifters on engine were tapping, so i had to park my vehicle before i lost my engine.vehicle is a 98 dodge ram 1500 v6 with 70k miles.was caused by a clogged oil pump intake screen.almost lost engine because screen is of defective design.screen is covered by a cap that prevents all of the solids from dropping back into the pan.the oil pan itself has a half inch rise inside to receive the oil drain plug.this half inch rise prevents heavy solids from being drained during routine oil changes.the oil pump intake is located directly above these solids, trapped in the bottom of the pan, and sucks them directly into the screen.therefore, over time the condition will reoccur.post research i found numerous persons with identical descriptions to mine who had lost their engines on varies years and models of dodge trucks.although hearsay, these individuals were told by dealerships that they had sludge in the bottom of their pans, stating the reason for failure was do to not routinely changing oil.i can document my routine oil changes, and i still had solids in the bottom of the pan on my vehicle that cannot be removed by routine oil changes.i believe this to be abreach of the implied warranty of merchantability, and there should be a recall to remedy the problem.i have documented the problem on video as well.
Enigine developed a very serious knocking and banging, and recently loss of oil pressure and low over 3 quarts of oil in about 800 miles after oil change.the knocking and banging got so bad that i couldn't maintain highway speeds causing a traffic hazard.if attempting to pull out and pass the knock may prevent accelleration causing a head on collision.continued knock will result in engine failure and damage.
While drivingengine check light came on, andengine got loud and locked up 50 miles later. Dealer has vehicle currently.
Vehicle dies at idle and while driving.*et
This vehicle has had an ongoing ignition problem.it finally became noticeable in front of my mechanic.after much diagnosis it was found that the #5 cylinder of the engine had zero compression. A pressure test was performed, and found that no pressure could be held in the cylinder because it was going directly out the exhaust valve.engine was disassembled and the cylinder head was found to have cracks between the intake and exhaust valves on 3 out of 4 cylinders, with number 5 being the worst.the opposite side cylinder head was also removed and found to have cracks in the same places (between the intake and exhaust valves in at least 2 of the 4 cylinders.the heads are not reparable.upon calling a machine shop i was informed that this is a common problem with oem cylinder heads for this engine (5.9l) 360 magnum.i also called several wrecking yards and found the same problem.none had any heads that were salvageable.they all had cracks in them.in my mind this is clearly a design problem that the daimler/chrysler corporation. Should have known about, and probably does.yet, no recall or tsb has been found to exist. These cylinder heads are a costly item and should have been manufactured to last much longer than they have.
Had smelled something burning when the engine check engine light & abs light came on. Then the engine stalled out.

Persistant engine spark cause the power train control module to fail.
While sitting in vehicle consumer place hands under the drivers seat and both drivers and passenger side airbags deployed.cause is unknown.please provide any further information. Ts
The check engine light appear on the dasboard without prior warning.the dealership is aware of the problem. *nlmspeed sensor was on recall but the recall did not cover the consumer's vehicle.
On two separate occassions, evap components, (vapor cannisters) attached to the frame underneath the passenger seating on the right side of the vehicle have been damaged due to road hazard and are not covered under warranty.their location makes them susceptible to damage and they are expensive to replace and are not repairable.
Fuel pump and map sensor failed on three occasions. Mjs
Gear selector shaft broke insidesteering column housing, 3 dealers could not fix the problem because the entire steering column has to be replaced. . zlso, steering column/track bar for front axle, and catalytic converter malfunctioned.
Catalytic converter system failed twice.
Consumer states the catalytic converter is rattling
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle was taken to the service dealer because the check engine light illuminated.the dealer determined the catalytic converter was bad and need to be replaced, but the vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact of a warranty extension on the catalytic converter in the 1500 series with a larger engine. Dt*:the contact stated the latch that holds the child in the child safety seat comes unlatched very easily. The straps become very loose when this happens.the manufacturer has not been alerted.updated 3/22/2006 -the manufacturer was notified of the problem.a recall had been initiated for this problem but the consumer seat was not included.the consumer sent the consumer a repair kit for the designer 22's which fixed the problem with is seat (22-390-vin, og2b, 1/28/2004).
Bad fumes from both inside and outside vehicle due to catalitic converter burning up. Rear end is making a humming noise.
Heater ventillation problems due to failure of the check valve/leakage.mjs
While on a busy highway consumer heard a rattling noise coming from engine.consumerthought noise was coming fromfuel that was put in earlier, changed fuel, but the rattling noise was still present.took vehicle to dealer, and they stated intake manifold was leaking.please provide any further information.
Intake manifold gasket leaks which causes amixture of oil and gas.as aresultvehicle losespower and consumes excessive oil. There is a tsb 1001522 on this issue.
I was driving my 1998 dodge ram 4x4 extended cab 1500slt 318 motor on the freeway doing 70-75 mph when i lost all power. I had no power steering or power brakes and was stuck in the fast lane on the interstate. I was finally able to get to the shoulder by cutting off another vehicle. I had my truck towed to lithia dodge of roseburg and they said the intake manifold gasket was leaking . They also said this was a common problem with this model. It caused oil to blow down my exhaust and plug my catalytic converter which choked off my motor and caused the engine to die. They would not warranty this because the truck has 46000 miles on it. I don't understand why this wasn't recalled as i was lucky i didn't get in a wreck. I know two other people this same problem has happened to.*la
The abs and brake light comes on and stays on until i restart the engine, goes out but comes back on, this seems to be a big problem with the 1998 dodge ram 1500, i have changed the rear wheel speed sensor that everyone tells me that the dodge is famous for, no help, then changed the break light sensor, no help, brakes, no help, what do i do know, can't sell it due to the lights being on.
I own a 1998 dodge ram 1500 extended cab. I bought the vehicle new. For several years the dash has been cracking and the plastic air conditioning vents are falling apart. I have made no repairs and it needs fixing. Also the rear end is roaring probably from a bearing going bad. Other than this problem, it has been a good truck.
Air condition control switch failed. Mjs
Consumer heard a humming sound fromrear of vehicle.dealer found rear wheel bearings were all chewed up, mechanic stated they were too tight.evaporator core failed.bearings, pinion bearing, and axle seals were replaced due to possibly being put on too tight at the factory.
Radio failed.
Tire jack failed, base is too small for vehicle resulting in truck falling off of jack when semi-truck passed by. Mjs
The jack that came with this vehicle does not have a base big enough to support the vehicle.whenever it reaches the height which is needed to change a tire, it has been up in the air, and consumer has watched it just slide down due to the base not being wide enough.
Vehicle was parked flat in a parking lot, jack was level and on asphalt.vehicle was jacked up and tire removed.after tire was removed, jack broke apart and truck fell to the ground landing on rotor assembly.vehicle grazed my leg, and friends leg as it was falling to the ground.
Back up light switch failed.yh
Dt*: the contact stated the headlight covers have yellowed which reduced visibility on the road at night. The service dealer offered no solution.the manufacturer was not contacted.
Consumer noticed headlight switch would pull completely out of dash mount whenturning on theswitch. Also headlightswitch would not completely turn on high beams unless swtich was turned on partly. Dealernotified and refused to repair unless cost wouldgo to consumer.
The interior lights will not work independently of each other and the headlight switch came out in the consumers hands on two occasions.
Rear tail light warped resulting in leaking.
Tail lights and dashboard lights were inoperative.
1998 dodge ram 1500.consumer writes in regards to straps holding gas tank that caused fuel pump damage.the consumer stated the vehicle stalled. It was determined the fuel pump needed to be replaced, due to rust.
Consumerwas pumping gas and the trush burst into flames, burning half of his body, and there was a fuel leakage.
1998 dodge 1500 fuel line break its the crossover line between the fuel rails on the 5.2 ltr engine a small rubber line. Because i drove my truck 3 miles to a car wash to wash lawnmower on trailer didn't wash truck didn't smell gas started truck to get gas at station drove it 1 block to station turned truck off and at that moment i herd a whoomping noise and then white smoke and flames came out from under the hood on the passenger side between the windshield and the hood big flames then black smoke i had barley had enough time to unhook trailerran to drivers side black smoke was coming out of the cab put truck in neutral and pushed it away from gas pumps then called 911. From the time i got to the gas pumps and the fire department put the fire out was 15 min and it completely gutted the cab and engine compartment. The fuel rail crossover lineis the only way that i figured the fire started on the passenger side because the fuel and return fuel line is on the drivers side. I'm afraid if this would of happened driving down the road with passengers somebody could if gotten seriously hurt .
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram.while driving 20 mph, the contact heard a loud bang that sounded like an explosion.he looked in the rear view mirror and noticed that the entire rear of the vehicle was in flames.the flames quickly engulfed the driver's side of the vehicle.he managed to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and attempted to extinguish the flames.the fire department was called and extinguished the fire.the vehicle was towed to a local service station and a large hole was found in the fuel tank.the mechanic stated that the entire fuel system needed to be replaced at the estimated cost of $3,500.a police report was filed.the failure and current mileages were 160,000.
Engine was burning a quart of oil within 700-900 miles , dealer claimed this was a normal characteristic. Dealer did replaced intake manifold twice which stopped problem for a while, but defect has reoccurred.
Fuel pump failure.
Fuel sending unit went out. This indicated that tank was empty. Tookvehicle to dealer .dlr put in a fuel pump,.but pump was defective, and dealer sent part back. Consumer has been out of a car 2 weeks. Fuel sensor failed and later on the fuel pump failed too.
Fuel pump and map sensor failed on three occasions. Mjs
Fuel pump failed as i was slowing for a stop sign, on a heavily traveled road. Had it replaced at fayetteville dodge, within 2 days. If it had failed on a thruway, i could imagine the results might have been more serious .
My son, william, was driving our 1998 dodge pickup on highway 78 when it began to lunge.since we had to put 2 transmissions in his previous dodge pickup, he thought something was wrong with this transmission.he started to pull off the road and looked in his rearview mirror for traffic when he saw flames and smoke coming from between the cab and bed.he hurriedly pulled off the road and when he opened the drivers door flames englufed the cab.he had to go out through the fire.about 1 minute after he and his passengers emerged from the pickup, it exploded.the only thing left of the truck was what was metal. Will had second degree burns to his face, ears, neck, hands and arms.he spent one night in the hospital. I contacted dodge and was told there would be an investagator look at the truck.i was then told by dodge since the pickup burned totally there was no way to determine they were at fault.after looking on the internet i found that there seems to be quite a number of fires in dodge vehicles.
Cronic problems in saftey related items: steering, tires, mirrors fuel system
While drivingvehicle smoke suddenly was noticed coming from the gas tank by other drivers. Consumer pulled over and noticed flames around the gas tank. Fire department put the fire out, cause unknown, and the dealer has not been contacted.

Fuel gauge failed due to faulty pump/level, replaced however continued to experience failure, second repair of the sending unit did not rectify failure.mjs

The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump had caught on fire, burning and melting the fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The fuel rail connector hose {or crossover hose} failed and gas leaked out on top of the engine catching fire.*t

Tailgate cable failure.driver's side tailgate cable on my 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 broke into two pieces.the cable underneath the protective plastic sleeve rusted through at the flex point.this truck is not abused and is an occasional use vehicle.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when the hood latch became disengaged, causing the hood lid to release and strike the windshield. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road to close the hood lid. The failure recurred three times and the hood would not remain latched securely. The defect resulted in the hood hinge becoming bent and the windshield exhibited numerous cracks. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the windshield. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 01v040000 (latches/locks/linkages) but was advised that the vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000. The vin was unavailable.
Secondary hood latch stuck in open position, causing hood to fly up while driving down the road. Damaged hood hinges. So far, has only happened once, but could be very dangerous if it happens more often.
I have had my van since 98 got it new the dealership had my van more then i have, they fixed only a few problems i have had other problems they couldn't find. The side passenger doors wouldn't unlock, when coming to a stop seconds after stopping i would feel a hick coming from the back end, on vacation after resting at a wayside while entering highway the you heard a click from the engine then you loss all power it wouldn't go any faster then 30-35 mph, took van in after this one guy at shop seen my handicap daughter and went in back to get a paper he then gave me, paper was from dodge telling of this problem and not to show to any customers,he gave this paper to me,and to this day i still have same problems, all plastic lining inside of van has cracked about 6 months after getting van, go through brakes like crazy, and van always pulls to right . There are so many problems with this van i can't list them all, tried to return van after 7 months they wouldn't take it back.
98 dodge hi top conversion van;the electric door locks' release mechanism has brokenfor the fourth time.this timethe middle side passenger door lock broke.when the door locks' brake, they are jammed locked, and we can not open the door at all.we contacted the dodge dealer and they said that if they unjam the door, the door would then stay open!we have to wait till next week to get it fixed because they have to order the part.this will end up costing us over $200/00 - again.i am amazed at your question "number of fatalities" .but it does bring a chilling thought - if i was to get into an accident with my five children in the back -they would not be able to get out, and if a fire was to ignite, i would not even like to think of the results!!!!!!your questions should be "number of possible fatalities" - then you would get a more accurate number of the severity of the defect.my (five) children now have to enter and exit through the front passenger door.my six year old daughter had to get out of the passenger side this morning to go to school.she fell out and hurt her wrist!as mentioned before, this is the fourth time one of the locks broke on the doors.twice on the driver's side door, and once on the passenger's side door.it is obvious to us that the locks are definitely defective - and life threatening!i see first hand what happens in wrecks, being a captain of the local vol. Fire dept and a member of the rescue squad.*ph
Both driver and passenger doors would not latch propery and prevented the doors from closing. *nlm
Side door will not open from the outside. Dealer states latch has failed.

1998 dodge ram 1500 4 wd short bed standard cabhood latch failed.while driving (after a couple miles) the hood began to shake up and down.i pulled over and slammed the hood closed.completed my trip (30 miles round trip).2 weeks later i was driving to work. After 1/2 mile the hood began to shake up and down. I began to slow but it was too late (40 mph), the hood flew open and slammed against the windshield. Since i was only 1 mile from my house i stood on top of the engine compartment and pulled the hood back down with my 200 pound frame and inched back to home where it sits. This is definitely a failure of the secondary latch.there was minor yard damage when i drove off the road.damage to the hood (creased) and the hinges, and front fenders.
On 1 dec 2001 i left watertown, ny to drive to syracuse, ny via i-81 south. Just after the central square entrance ramp my hood blew open at 65mph. This nearly caused me to crash but i managed to finally get the truck pulled over without a crash. I am a handicapped member of the us army so i called my wife to help me get the hood down and strap it down with a ratchet strap and bungie cords. The hood, grill, hinges and hood liner are all damaged beyond repair. Upon returning home i searched the internet and found a "safety recall" #973 for the secondary hood latch failure. I purchased the vehicle used in 2006 and never received a warning. Today i went to dealmaker dodges service dept and it was verified that the repair service had never been completed. After speaking with the service technician mark (315)-779-5725i was informed that the district manager mr. David littlejohn disapproved the repair of the damage, however would authorize the recall to be performed. I was told that chrysler dodge was not liable for inherit damaged caused by the hood out of nowhere popping open.i contacted the chrysler customer relations (800) 992-1997 and was told the same thing. I asked for the proof in writing and was refused the document stating that they were not responsible for inhered damaged caused by a defective part that can cause severe injury or death to many people if they do not know how to handle such problems. My chryler corporation reference number is 16995780.
Primary and secondary hood latch failed.hood opened during travel causing severe damage to hood and hinge assemblies.
Received recall letter from dodge regarding secondary hood latch, and they were refusing to honor recall letter. Dodge stated thatrepairs would have to be performed on a weekday.consumer stated it would have to be a weekend, and dodge will not honor that. Please provide any further information.
1998 dodge ram hood flew open while driving. Consumer states that he was driving 65 mph. He also states that the grill, hood hinges, and insulation are destroyed. He stated there is a recall for this problem.

We have not had a crash, but my dodge ram has been in our garage since april we are afraid to drive it, the abs breaks are on and the transmission is going outalso smells like fire crackers at times.
I was driving on the highway then heard a loud thump and the driver side rear wheel is pushed out and it no longer engages
When backing the vehicle out of the garage, i noticed an oily substance in the center of the vehicle directly below the rear differential. Inspecting the vehicle, i could see there is a leak emanating from the drive-shaft and differential where the pinion seal is located. There is a recall on the pinion seal for the 2009 and 2010 model years that does not cover my 2008 dodge ram 1500. I believe the recall needs to extend to the 2008 model year also.

In motion the steering is very loose. The steering wheel will travel very often from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock and hopefully, i am still going straight. The truck will drift to the right and have to oversteer to get the truck in the travel lane. I replaced steering gear box, ball joints, tie rods, steering rod, track bar, rack, and pinion. This is an ongoing problem for a number of years. Transmission plastic part is broken so there has to be replaced.
I was driving down the road at about a bout 50 mph down the road and started hearing a noise when letting off the throttle and slowed down a lil gave it some gasthen let off again next thing i hear is the drive shaft hitting the road and the tires sliding across the road and causing me to slide across the road locally there was no traffic coming towards me i was able to control the slide of the rear tires to a stop on the side of the road. I got out and was looking what happen the pion nut came off the pion gear locking up the rear differential i think this is a safety issue because it could have ended up someone getting hurt and or killing someone in a crash. The truck is very well taking care of and has 108k miles low for its age and there was a recall on this before but on the 05 dodge ram truck's that was made in 04 is what someone told me
Transmission slips into neutral when turning corners. We have to let the engine idle down and wait 15 to 30 seconds before transmission catches.
Loud drive train noise coming from truck.serviced at 70k by dodge dealership, replacing rear differential/bearings.truck is now making same noise at 99k and first estimate of repair indicates rear differential/bearings again.
I was driving down a 45mph road and the truck was not shifting so i pulled to the side shut it off turned it back on the checked all the gears and everything seemed fine then i tried driving again and it stalled while driving down the road and will not start and the engine makes a weird rumble noise.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that he received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 13v038000 (power train) several months ago and was informed by the dealer that the part for the repair was not available. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
I drive a 98 dodge ram. The transmission slips out of overdrive on it's own. I will be replacing this transmission at a cost of $2000.00. It does it at speeds of 70 mph and could be dangerous if towing a trailer. Dodge trucks are known for faulty transmissions.
I was on the freeway, and as i went to pass a slower vehicle, i felt the transmission "slip" and watched the rpm's increase dramatically, while my speed actually decreased.i slowed down and tried to continue to drive at a slower speed, however this became impossible very quickly.i also smelled something, probably the clutches "slipping" so i pulled over and called for a tow truck.
A visiting relative from the east coast mentioned that the dodge pickup was not held in high esteem due to the transmissions not holding up under snow plowing work. This didn't cause me alarm since my truck is used for passenger use only. Exactly 10 days later my transmission went out. The dealer "reconditioned" it and it lasted less than 1000 miles before failing again. To be continued.
At 35 degree or colder orjust rainy days with warm temp.transmission will not shift into overdrive ,can drive 15 miles on highway in 3rd gear. When it does shift into overdrive and i hit a bump in road it will go out of overdrive. Also the engine will rev as if it is trying to switch out of overdrive. All of these factors are resulting in increased fuel usage, which at $2 a gallon is becoming an expensive problem. I was told at time of purchase, this was a normal fuction of the transmission, bought truck feb. 2003 and brought truck back 2 times to a chysler dealer and was told same story, dealer is now no longer in business and my warranty has expired, but still have problem.
Transmission no longer has reverse. This was repaired once at dealership in february 04 at cost of $2135.41. Now, to rebuild for same problem 13 months and 22k miles later is $3064.47 at same dealer. They blame increase in cost of parts. Contacted dodge consumer help line and was told that there was nothing they could do due to 12/12 warranty expired. They blamed increase cost on increased labor rate at dealership. Both suggest remanufactured transmission at cost of $3857.95. Called local transmisison repair shops and was quoted $1100 - $1700 for same repair, and both offer same or better warranty. Second shop told me what my problem was by just knowing year and make of my truck. There is a manufacturer's problem with this transmission !!!!!!!!!
1998 dodge ram 1500 trucktransmission failure twice in three years. Have seen numerous complaints over various internet sites with same problems.first transmission failed, then all the sensors failed on transmission, and now torque converter.
When approaching a hill or attempting to pass at highway speeds (75 to 85mph) either with cruise on or off the truck will down shift from overdrive to low gear.(suddenly bringing you to a hault!) it will then cause the engine to overdrive. Then the truck will stay either in low gear or 2nd gear until you shut the key off and restart or by putting it into neutral then back into drive and letting it coast for a bit. This is very dangerous! i have been almost smashed into several times! this transmission has been rebuilt and the problem has been with it since rebuilding. There is only 4000 miles on the rebuild! i have brought it back over ten times for this problem but it will never leave a code! i have now been told there is nothing they can do with it! the reason the first tranny went out is because the park control rod broke and fell into the guts of the tranny and virtually destroyed it!
Transmission slippage 1998 dodge ram1500at 49,000 miles .please recall, this problem is present with everyone i know that ownes a dodge with an automatic transmission, thank you for your time.
After vehicle is warmed up it will intermittently not shift into drive. Consumer has to shift it into neutral, then, back into drive before vehicle responds. Consumer is concerned about vehicle rolling backwards when this occurs.*yd

I was driving on a 4 lane highway at 65 miles per hour when i suddenly lost speed and the rpm were heading to redline. I hit my brake in the middle of traffic trying to keep from hurting my engine. When i got pulled to the side of the road i checked to see if i could go and i had no transmission. I only have 78,000 miles on my truck and don't pull heavy loads or load my pick-up with heavy loads. I have talked with other people that have the same year dodge pick-up and they have had similar problems. I am having my transmission replaced along with the transmission cooler because it has parts of my clutch in it. I found 5 people in my county that have had problems with their 98 pick-ups and have had them fixed and then traded them for another brand of vehicle. I would really like to know why nobody has investigated this or recalled the vehicle because of this problem.
(1) started to pull as if it were not getting fuel(2) the trans temp light came on(3)the overdrive light came on (4) periodically there was a grinding noise(5) truck would delay or jerk when put in drive(6)will no longer go in drive or reverse(7) truck has stalled and is no longer running.

I have contacted chrysler too many times about these problems, especially the brakes, which i admit is an intermettent problem. However i have demonstrated the problem to the service manager at riverhead dodge. No repairs were ever made. Apparently after searching on the internet i find i am not the only one who has these same problems. How many people have to be hurt before dodge does something about this? does this have to evolve into another firestone problem before anything is done?

Truck parked on driveway in park--did not hold and rolled backwards into tree on the lawn causing damage to the rear bumper-luckily it did strike the tree other wise it would have been on the street. I have the same problem of shifting into drive--and reverse the engagement points are no where they are shown to be on the shifter. There is also a hesitation when engaged(sometimes) and will engage roughly with a jerk. I ve been told that there was a defective connector inside the steering column and that there was a safety recall on this part--cannot get a direct answer from a local dealer here --what's the score on this.
Consumer can shiftvehicle into any gear.stepped ongas pedal andvehicle wouldnot move.rpms revved high or low beforevehicle had a delayed response by lurching forward inwhatever gear it was in. Diagnostic test showed no codes and shifted as normal.problem had to duplicate to be remedied.
1998 dodge ram 1500 transmisson;the tranmission failed on my truck at 60,000 miles! evidently, there is a problem with these dodge transmissions and this is a very common problem.nobody can say that 60,000 miles is resonable for such a major repair (about $3,000 in my case).i want dodge to acknowledge this problem (recall probably) and reimburese me for this repair.
My transmission have failed. Intake manifold gasket blew out.
I reported the failure to chrysler who agreed to a diagnosis. A representative verbally agreed that chrysler would pay for diagnosis and repair if problem was caused by factory defect. A diagnosis showed that the failure was caused by a factory defect. At least one metal part was missing from the transmission causing the failure. Chrysler then said i was responsible for $350 of the repair cost, going against their earlier agreement.
I really enjoy this dodge ram1500 ,but i feel that since it is out of warranty it will not hold up to my expectations. No safety defect listed in summary.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that the reverse gear was non-functional. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who informed the contact that the reverse gear retention clip came out and disintegrated. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 168,534.
While returning home from seeing my first grandchild, south of hershey pa my transmission died at approx. 50,000 miles.i had to have the vehicle towed from the interstate and the transmission rebuilt.they told me there were a lot of metal shavings in the transmission which clogged up the works.this cost me almost $3,000.00 plus the cost of being stranded out of town for 5 days.i now have 92,000 miles on the truck and have to have the transmission rebuilt again.i do not know the cost to do this yet.plus i have the cost of obtaining alternate transportation to get to work for about 14 days until i get the work completed.the first repair work was done by aamcoand the warranty on their work was for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever came first.i had aamco do a diagnostic on the vehicle and they told me the transmission was "toast".
Transmission failed in overdrive which caused failure to the rest of the transmission which required the transmission to be rebuilt.
While driving consumershifted indicatorand it failed to work properly.could not locate what gear transmission was in. Pops out of gear intermittently when gas pedal pressed.also, whenever applyingbrakes, vehicle would constantly increase in speed. Took to dealership & each time test driven, but nothing could be found.transmission was replaced 3 times for faulty gear shifting. In addition, fuel tank assembly was replaced due to problem with transmission.ongoing problems.*ml
While drivingat 40mph transmission broke.
Transmission overheats.as near as i can tell, from reading the numerous complaints on message boards, the problem is due to two possible things. A bad torque converter (frequent problem)and/or clogged cooling system lines as the lines and passageways are too narrow and filter is insufficient. *nlm
At 71,000 miles transmission failed for the second time. First time was at 34,000.$3200 to repace with rebuilt unit. Also, the rear differential needs rebuilding for another $1600.
I own a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The transmission went out on me and the pickup only had 61000 miles on it. There was actually fire inside the transmission, you could tell when the mechanic dropped the pan, there was nothing left every thing was fried. That could of started the whole pickup on fire and i could of been killed or badly hurt. I have talked to some other guys and they owned 1998 rams and the same thing happened. Now this is a big safety thing and there was not a recall on the faulty transmission. I contacted chrysler to see if they would pay for a new transmission and they said no, they wouldn't even help me out. This could of been a big law suit if i would of gotten hurt.
Automatic transmission did not engage to next gear after driving slow. When you step on gas pedal, it seems that the transmission does not want to engage into next gear. Had to push down on gas pedal as if trying to get into passing lanein order for transmission to engage. Chrysler could not find any problem.
Transmission leakage..axel fluid leakage..this is the third vechile that this dealership has put us in in 15 months!!the truck we have now isnt safe and they refuse to fix it and they are responsible because they did not give us a warranty like they told us when we bought truck in april.

Consumer noticed while shifting vehicle out of park into drivegearsposition were switched around, making it impossible for consumerto shift to correct gear.vehicle was serviced, technician noticed steering column needed to be replaced.
The auto transmission linkage that connects to the framebolt sheered off. When this occured the vehicle remained in the gear it was in at the time of the failure. The cause of the failure is undetermined.*ph the bolts shearing off the frame caused the linkage bracket to fall off the truck frame disabling the transmission from being shifted.
Transmission gearcan be pushed into drive without putting foot on brake first. Concerned because consumer has smallchildren. Consumer was not informed of this feature prior to purchase of vehicle.
Vehicle was in reverse, attempted to drive back inreverse, but vehicle was still in drve. Have experienced failure in passenger side rear axle 1998 dodge ram. Going to open rear end on 5/26/03 for inspection. Have approx. 1/4 in horizontal movement in axle.

We were taveling on hwy. 400 at approx. 65mph, when the driveshaft fell out of the truck, due to a broken bolt head.being that it is out of warranty , chrysler doesn't want to do any thing about it.i feel that this is a safety hazard, and should be covered under something other than a typical warranty, since the truck has been well maintained and taken care of. By the grace of god we were able to steer the truck into the median without getting hit.

Seat belt control module will not release retracted belts to allow driver or passenger to wear seat belts. This makes the vehicle unsafe and illegal to properly operate. Module is no longer manufactured or carried by any national parts warehouse. Dodge advised for me to call a dedicated supplier of parts for older vehicles and was told these were not available anywhere on a database any longer. There are several blogs with owners stating same issues with their trucks and dodge has not recalled this safety item or accommodated anyone with these problems as of date.

The passenger and driver seat belts are locked in the retracted position.there wasn't any event that led to the failure, they both just quit working.i researched the issue on the internet and apparently it is something that happens quite often leaving both the driver and occupant without safety restraints.this is very dangerous and a safety recall needs to be issued to both notify and to protect the public.

Seat belt failure in 1998 dodge ram--only 13000 miles, never in an accident.i got in vehicle one day, and seat belt was locked in retracted position--cannot free.curiously enough, passenger seatbelt would also not unreel for anyone else to use.simultaneous failure of both seatbelts?i have never owned a vehicle where even on has done more that be a little slow on the uptake, but for both to fail overnight leads me to believe there may be a design flaw.
Driver/passenger seat belts would lock up when pulled out to be used. It would fail to release from retractor. Took vehicle to dealership and was informed by mechanicthat seat beltsneed to be replaced.
Driver's seat belt failed to retract.

Due to the seat belts assembly coming apart our baby seat became loose causing seat with infant to lung forward upon braking. Tried several times to get assistance through the chrysler 1-800 # for complaints and issues. As a matter of fact, i was treated with a complete lack of concern for such a critical. Attempted to take care of it through a local dealership who upon calling the 1-800# for chrysler service to see that it would be covered being a seat belt failure, were refused. At this point, i junk yard whole seat belts and replace them every time they fall apart which is very often. I have replaced all or part of (4) belt assemblies in the area of (9) times since the date noted.
98 dodge ram 1500 pick-up. Seat belt failure leading to the release of infant car seat. Called chrysler customer service on more than one occasion only to be treated like a child and told there was nothing they could do. While driving my pick up and stopping at a traffic light, my sons infant seat came loose and lunged forward. He was about1 year old at the time and as a result, hit his head on the back of the passenger seat. The seat belts are designed in a manner that there is a little peice of plastic that retains the belt portion, in turn, this is what retains the infant seat. Both my wife and i took classes at the local dealarship so as to be able to do the installation correctly long prior to this event. I did take the truck in to try and have the now faulty belts replaced only to be turned away. I now have to comb through the local junk yards frequently to find new belts with all the correct pieces. I still have the truck and only recently learned of your site. How can faulty seat belts be ignored. Currently, both the drivers and passengers belts do not function correctly. The date below and the following milages are approx. Guesses. I have also put (1) for numbered of persons injured, but it was nothing severe luckily.

To whom it may concern, these rubber brake lines almost killed me barreling thru a downhill red light. Fixed bad part, then hit guard rail, damaged front grille, bumper and fender when the other line popped while driving.i was told this is a notorious problem with dodge trucks. I'm not as angry about the filler neck which rotted and filed tank w rust chunks, replaced fuel pump.but i think more ppl need to b aware of this brake problem with these trucks, as far as i'm concerned, this is incredibly dangerous, and i might scrapit because it's problems 120k mile truck i can't even get 700$ for after the $ i've invested to keep it safe. I think the brakes need to be recalled with these trucks. Owners like me just let them sit because they rosy so easy their not worth fixing anymore, i regularly maintenence my vehicles, these are expensive to keep safe, thank you. Scott kimball.120k 98 ram

While driving about 35 mph another consumer made a left turn in front of the consumer, causing the consumer to hit the vehicle on the left side at 35 mph, and the air bags didn't deploy. Also, when the consumer applied the brakes, they locked up.the consumerwas hurt in accident.
Brakes failed overheated, rotors failed due to heat cracks.
While driving 25 mph and applying the brakes and the vehicle did'nt sto., consumer had to pump the brakes three to four times to get the vehicle to come to a complete stopalso, tires locked up in process of trying to get the vehicle to stop. Vehicle had been three to four times for repairs, and still can't deterimine the problem.
I really enjoy this dodge ram1500 ,but i feel that since it is out of warranty it will not hold up to my expectations. No safety defect listed in summary.
During normal braking, brake pedal would pulsate.dealer contacted.*scc
I have just over 36,000 miles on the truck. I am on my third set of pads for the front and have replaced the shoes once. In addition, i've had the drums and rotors turned. The dealer responds by charging me to adjust the rear brakes. I have had this done but continue to eat up the front brakes. The manufacturer changed to bigger pads and rotors shortly after my truck was made but dealer & manufacturer are not responsive. Also, the rear antilock doesn't work right.
Right front brakes wore out faster then other side. Consumer could hear noise coming from brakes. Noise due to inside brake pad lining wearing down to metal.manufacturer warning system failed, driver/owner unaware problem existed until failure occurred.
Since new the truck has pulled to the right.dealersaid that there was nothing wrong.i now find that right outer brake pad is worn out where all the others are fine.this to me means that the caliper on the right side is not disengaging.it has been this way from the manufacturer.
Brakes have continually experienced hanging up, calipers replaced at 3001 miles. Mjs
Rront pads wearing at a excessive short period of time.
Brake pads continually wearing out prematurely.
Front disc brake pads failed.
Brake pads failed.
Within 57,000 milesfront brake pads have been replaced four times cause unknown, dealercannot identify cause. Please give any further details.
The front brake pads required replacing at 16,000 miles, 8,500 miles before suggested maintenance. At 35,975 miles the front brake pads and rotors required replacing. Dodge informed me this was normal wear, not within warranty and not considered a problem. They did not inform me of the tsb already released stating the known problem of early wear on front brake pads.
Brake pad cracked, made a clicking noise.yh
When applying the brakes the owner could feel a grinding sensation. Brakes pads have been replaced 3 times. Currently replacing the pads for the 4th time.
Brake pads wore prematurely at 18000 miles.thompson dodge who is doing the work said dodge will pay for parts but not labor which will be 100.00 labor.they also informed me the new pads are of a better design and should last between 40000 and 50000 miles under normal conditions.75%of the 18000 miles on my truck are highway miles so i feel that the pads should not have worn out so soon.i that dodge should reimberse me the 100.00 that i paid out of my pocket for labor.dodge's decision on this matter will dictate if my next vehicle purchase will be a dodge product.
While braking vehicle lost brake power, and consumer drove the vehicle intosnow on the side of the road to stop. Vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, where the mechanic determined that right front rotor blew apart, causing the loss of brake power.
Rotors installed by manufacturer are undersized causing excessive wear of brake pads.
I had a problem with the right brake ever since i bought the truck. I took it into the dodge dealer in victorville who told me that i did not have a recall so it would cost me to chnage the rotors since it was damaged. I just had my husband replace it with a new rotor which was very costly since i was not able to stop anymore because i had no brake pad on the inside of the right rotor since it has always been stuck and just finally wore out everything.
Front brakes \ rotors required replacement after only 20,000 miles.i have noticed other recalls on ram 1500 front disc brakes (rotor problems: fatigue but not on my particular vin). I also need to take the vehicle in yet again for the same problem only 5 days after initial "repair"!i love my dodge ram, but i feel there is something definitely wrong when myself and others have to replace brakes so early ona relatively new vehicle.perhaps chryslers recall # 788 should be reopened for further investigation?

Tire seperated from truck, causing loss of control, rolled ? times, everyone was ejected and killed except for 1. I do not want my information released to the manufacturer, pending legal matters.
1998 dodge ram 1500 pickup blowing out a brake line all brakes lost.
Was driving 45 mph entering an intersection, the consumer attempted to apply the brakes, there was a noise and the consumer then realized the vehicle had no brakes. The consumer managed to get home and upon inspection of the vehicle he noticed abolt that attached to the master cylinder and power booster had broken.the bolt had shown stress fractures.

The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph in reverse, he noticed that the steering wheel had become abnormally loose. The contact attempted to drive forward but he turned the wheel right and the vehicle went left. The contact then exited the vehicle and noticed that the sub frame was rusted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 130,000. Updated 11-04-13 updated 11/8/2013
The pivot point in the steering system allows the wheels if not in perfect condition, the opportunity to turn inwards. This inward motion the front wheels perform at 40 mph-50mph is unacceptable.also the dashboard cracks like peanut brittle, allowing pieces of sharp hard plastic to fly into the windshield, which as per standard no. 219 is not meeting regulations. In the event of a crash, metal is now exposed to the passengers due to this cracking and breaking apart.do something before people get seriously injured because chrysler wants to make money. Help us. This is a lemon 2nd generation ram model and no one is taking responsibility.
Hearing noises insteering column can result in a vehicle crash. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.
My girlfriend's son was driving our 1998 dodge ram 1500 going about 35 or 40 miles per hour (he and his girlfriend were taking a ride waiting for a pizza) so just mosing along thank god . He rounded a curve and lost steering he tried to jerk it back and said it made a cracking noise and he had no steering ability. He ran off the road striking trees, knocked himself out by hitting his head on the drivers side window. When he came to, his girlfriend was knocked out. He got her alert and called 911. She was life flighted, 5 broken ribs, major concussion and he had cuts and scratches and a concussion. He was treated and released. I asked the insurance adjuster to check it but he looked at it (never tore the steering column apart) and said it looked ok. They moved it to a salvage yard. Since the accident 3people have told me they had the same problem with their ram 1500. Now her son is being fined for driving too fast around the curve..guess it is always a fine never a true accident anymore, but i am just thankful that the kids are both alive as the truck was totaled from the trees and stumps they hit. Her son feels he may have leaned on the gas pedal when he was knocked out but knows he was only going 40 mph tops prior to the steering failing.
Steering problems wonderingneeded new steering box rod and pin and tie rods on front also paint is all coming off.
There was a loud clunking noise in the frontover bumps. I had it inspected and was told the sway bar where it mounts to the frame horn on the passenger side was rusted through. Also, the idler arm bracket is in danger of falling off because of the severe rust problem. The drivers side frame horn where the gearbox mounts has a large rust hole also. I had the complete frame inspected for rust. There arerust holes in the frame where the transmission support is mounted to the frame on left and right sides. Is this truck even safe to drive in this rusty condition?it has 146,000 miles on it.. I believe there are many other dodge veichles out there with the same issues. A class action lawsuit is in order.

We started to have problems with the van since it was purchased, we went back to the dealer rigth after we noticed a few problems with the van, such as car pulling to the rigth and a loud thump sound coming from the rigth rear side every time we pass those speed bumps. And when they inspected the van they (the dealer technicians), told me that a shock absorver needed to be replace and alignment was needed as well. After this two things were done, everything went down the hill....when i drove home the van i noticed that van was pulling still to the rigth and a noise was coming from the left front suspension when braking, is more like a cracking noise, i'll mention that this was't happening all the time, but the pulling to the rigth was. We went back with them, they aligned again...but, this time the van was not pulling to the rigth but to the left instead, this happend when driving straigth or when braking as well, we went back to the same dealer, but after some attempsof fixing this problem and a very unpleasent experiences with their (customer representaives) at desplaines dodge dealer, not to try again wih them, we contacted chrysler representatives, and told them aboutthe very dumb comment the customer representative of desplaines dodge dealer, that they suggested to take the van to a 5 stars shop the comment the customer representative made was (that the van was pulling to the rigth because it was a safety feature build in the van to prevent peoplewander to the to the left in case the fell sleep, this was a very dumb thing to said. So finally we went to that 5 stars dealer, and a (big) inprovement was achieve, the van was pulling less but on this occasion instead of pullingto rigth it started to pull to the left and the steering wheel was not straight,it was croocked to the left and before was to the right. I noticedmore play on the steering wheel. I'll mention that ever since we have this van in our possession the steering wheel never th.

On july 22nd 2002 i was stopped in traffic, a ford truck hit me from behind doing 35mph. The impact pushed me into the car ahead of me it ended up being a 5 car pile up. In which my truck front and rear bumper was smashed in. I was thrown forward into the steering wheel causing severe pain days later. I was really surprised the air bags did not deploy. The rear drivers panel bent and also the transmission coolant radiator was smashed in.. It caused 3700.00 damages to my truck and 2500.00 to the car(honda) in front of me.

Cracked dash cover is a hazard.
I have a1998 dodge ram 1500.my dash board is cracking and falling apart.do not understand how this could be happening, as no unusual use of the vehicle.
Plastic dash on 1998 dodge ram 1500. The dash started with 1 small crack then the whole dash is cracked everywhere. If involved in a wreck the dash would be dangerous to everyone inside from the flying pieces.
Dashboard of my 1998 dodge ram pickup unexpectedly started cracking and it is my understanding, this is causing electrical failures which could cause an accident.
Inthe 1998 dodge ram 1500 pickup, i have expericenced 3-4 large cracks in the dashboard, some running the whole length from the front edge to the windshield.
We own three dodge rams, the 99 & 98 dashes have cracked up due to dodge using cheap material. We can not afford the $1200 to replace just one of the dash, nor can we find a used one. Now my 6yr grandchild has cut his hand from one of the cracks sharp edges. I am very disappointed in this, i love my personal truck but i unable to keep my grandson safe in it.
The dashboard of our dodge ram 1500 is completely cracked in at least 3 places and is in danger of caving in.
Dash cracked and is close to becoming a hole. Why has this not been a recall issue i know of at least 200 other dodge ram owners who have the same problem and that is just in tampa fl. Stop dragging your feet and save us some money from them cutting cost and doing it wrong the first time.
Iown a 1998 &2002 dodge truck.both vehicles have cracked dashboards. This could be a problem in the future should the dashboardcollapse. This was a problem with many of these trucks and felt it should be corrected by the manufacturer. Please advise.
1) nothing caused failure.no car accidents or crashes.just started showing up over time.2) two separate cracks in dashboard.one on the passenger side by vent that leads all the way towards the glove box while the other crack is above my gauge console.3) the only repair possible is a whole new dashboard which has not been done as of yet.
The dash board began to crack, now it is virtually non existent.i cannot place anything on the dash because it has huge chunks missing. If i roll down my windows on the interstate, some more pieces of the dash fall off . It is unusable.it may be a hazard because small sharp plastic parts should not be in front of the driver.i have cut my hand on the edges when i was picking up all the broken shards of plastic. I am appalled that dodge is not accountable for shortcomings in nearly every single dodge pickup truck.i have had mechanics that have told me to go elsewhere, because they did not want to be responsible for the inevitable breaking of the dash that occurs when you have to work on the interior.
Dashboard cracked on 98 dodge 1500 truck.maybe defective plastic that can't hold up like other dashboards i've had in other trucks. Could lead to sun melting wires and short out headlights and taillights. This has already been proven by alot of others with same vehicle. I think there should be a recall on this defect.for safety reasons and also therename.
I have two 1998 dodge 1500 trucks both have the dash breaking apart.
The dashboard on my 1998 dodge ram has caved in.
Cracked , or should i say falling apart dash on truck.
The dash on my 98 dodge ram 1500 truck has developed several cracks in various places.
Severe failure of dashboard. Noticed small cracks when purchased used in 2005. Dashboardhas since cracked extremely badly. Have spoken with other dodge ram owners who, for the majority, have had the same problem. Spoke with dealer. No coverage. $1000 plus to fix. Found complaints, but no investigation.
Dash has numerous cracks.concerned about the passenger air bag being deployed and causing injury when parts of dash come off.
Cracking dash on dodge ram something needs to be done since chrysler will not. Cracks are causing sharp edges and electrical problems.
Dashboard cracking into pieces.
The dashboard in my 1998 dodge ram pickup is cracking and falling apart.i have not yet replaced the dash, but if it continues to crumble, i will have to due to safety.
I own a 1998 dodge ram 1500 truck that has a strange issue. For years i have suffered witha cracked dashboard that continues to deteriorate. There are many exposed elements that i feel would compromise my safety if i were involved in an accident in this vehicle. The sharp edges madeby the cracks are also a hazard as well. Just today, i have learned that countless dodge owners have this problem as well and the company has seemed to turn a deaf ear. I actually stumbled across the information about the large number of complaints as i was searching online to find a replacement for my vehicle dashboard. I have been using mats and towels or whatever i could conjure to cover up the problem for a year or so, but now the damage is way more than that type of "bandaid" can fix. For the most part, what i have learned is that to purchase a replacement of the same type of dash is a waste of money, because the quality of the material is still the same, and it will eventually fail as well. I certainly feel that dodge is responsible for replacement of the said part due to their negligence in ensuring the safety and stability of this component. It is by no means coincidental that all the people have the exact same complaint. I have owned many vehicles and never have i had such an experience!
Dash cracked in the area of passenger side air bag.
The dashboard is cracked and exposing the electrical system. There are also sharpe edges exposed causing a safety risk.
The dashboard started with one crack and over the past few months has cracked into a large triangle shape with a few smaller cracks.
The front dash of my 1998 dodge ram 1500 quad cab began cracking in multiple places within three years of the purchase of the vehicle.the cracks have become so extensive that a large hole recently opened up in the top dash above the instrument cluster and steering column.internal components under the dash are now exposed to sunlight.the dash is essentially slowly disintegrating over time.
I just wanted to know about dodge ram trucks i own a 98 dodge truck is thereany recalls about the dashescracking and coming apartwhileyour driving this iswhat happened to me i almost wrecked my trucked please let me know thank you
My dodge truck 1998 ram 1500 dashboard is cracking and has been for several years. The cracks now are moving toward the panel of instruments and the cracks are coming together to make holesi can not get the evaporator for my air conditioner fixed due to the faulty dash. I contacted chrysler and stated that there is no recall and would not repair dash.i went online and this appears to be a common problems with the ram 1500 my truck is kept inside when not being used and is up to date on all maintenance.
1998 dodge truck dash falling out on large pieces. One piece got behind brake pedal and nearly caused an accident.
The dashboard on my 1998 dodge ram has cracked and fallen into the electrical components in several places. It seems to be a problem with the plastic itself as no external sources caused the damage. It started happening in february of 2009 and has gotten steadily worse.the plastic has become so sharp and brittle that driving on a bumpy road will actually cause pieces to fall into the dash.this could be a safety issue if the vehicle was involved in crash, the dashboard could become airborne in shards. These shards of plastic are sharp enough to cause serious injury if they were to strike your face or eyes. The pieces fall into the dashboard and onto electrical components, once they fall into this position it is almost impossible to remove them from the inside of the dashboard. I can see future electrical problems such as a vehicle fire resulting from the sharp shards of plastic being in contact with wiring that is now exposed as a result of the plastic falling away.i have contacted dodge but was advised that no recall exists and therefore they will not replace the dashboard. It seems that a simple fix on their behalf could avoid major problems with somebody getting seriously injured. An internet search has revealed that there are hundreds of complaints of the same nature, i have owned a dodge vehicle for almost my entire adult life and i am now looking to purchase a new ford this year because i am so concerned about this problem.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that there was a fracture in the dashboard.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 108,450.

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500with a cracked dash and researched other years with the same problem . I have call dodge like a lot of others have with no results . My concern is with the windows down i have had a peace of the dash fly in to face while driving . And i think it is a safety issue. Now i cant roll down the windows with out fear of been hit in the face again ......
1998 dodge ram 1500....dashboard is cracked and spreading across entire length.
Dash is cracking and falling apart due to defective material used for making the dash. This problem causes sharp protruding pieces. This could make it unsafe for the driver or passengers if an accident occurs.
I had my dodge ram 1500 4x4 for only 2 years before the paint started fading on the hood, top of cab & top of bed. Now it is 2004 and the trucks looks terriable . Embarrassing to drive. Dealership said there is nothing they can do, no recalls on paint for 1998 truck and no warranty. After you pay all that money for a truck and expected the best quality due to the price. I have spoke with several dealerships and this seems to be a common problem. I cannot afford to have it painted, considering how much it costs to replace the emblems and purchase the paint. Is there any thing that can be done about this? please help!
Dashboard is cracked in several place on my 1998 dodge truck that i just paid off. This began 2 years ago as a result of the vehicle being in the sun. This has caused the dash to become loose and dangerous for the internal parts that the dash protects.
The dash comes apart into small pieces.
Upper dash totally gone and bezel around cluster cracked and falling apart.
1998 dodge ram 4x4 sle pick-up truck with cracked dash. Sharp edges on dash has caused an injury to my hand whiling cleaning the window. Damage was not caused by any person or persons in your around the vehicle. The cracked dash is a common problem in 2nd generate dodge picks (1994-2001).
I have found that the dodge pu's all have defective and failing dashes. What will it take to get you to have this problem resolved. A child decapitated in a minor accident from a "known defect" in dodges dashes. A family burned alive while driving down the highway because the dash caves in and shorts out wiring. Or perhaps an accident when the air bag deploys at 70 mph due to an electrical short. This is a serious issue and dodge/chrysler need to address it and fix it now. Or perhaps we are too busy financing the continued defective manufacturing of death traps by dodge/chrysler with tax payers dollars to be concerned with lives of working class americans who supported the company by purchasing their junk vehicles. My dashboard is falling apart around me and this has been an issue for a long, long time. You have known of it, yet no recalls have been issued. Chrysler and dodge have known of it, "profits over life seems to be their only concern". Do a search on the internet and you will literally find thousands of dodge ram pu owners with the same issues and complaints about this vehicle. And you will also find that chrysler and dodge fully intend to just ignore the problem. Personally, i don't think my tax dollars should go to bail out a company that "willingly manufactures and sells defective products to consumers and when brought to their attention, they will just brush it aside or blame the consumer". And i strongly feel that your agency needs to be a bit more forceful with chrysler and dodge to get these substandard items repaired and replaced at their expense before more "taxpayers who bailed them out get injured or die from their known defects".
My 1998 dodge ram 1500 pickup has a chronic case of cracked dash. This has been heavily noted from 1998 models through the 2004 models. This is extremely hazardous to passenger safety because if the passenger airbag should deploy the passenger of driver could be impaled by sharp shards of plastic from the fractured dash. These dashes need to be recalled due to this extreme safety hazard.
The dash in my 1998 ram 1500 is all cracked and falling apart. The vin has fallen off too (it was riveted to the dash). I think this could affect the effectiveness of the air bag.
Dashboard is cracking.
The dash on the 94-01 dodge ram 1500 have a problem with cracking as mine did. Not sure if this will cause a safety issue or cause the unsafe deployment of the air bags in case of an accident.
Cracked dash, 98 dodge ram 1500 pickup.
Dashboardcracking and breaking. The dashboard inthe 1998 dodge 1500cracked in many places. Many of these vehiclesi were affectedfrom the same problem.
Dash in my 1998 dodge ram 1500 has cracks and keeps getting worse.
Multiple large cracks in dash.
Small cracks in dash, which lead to large cracking.the dashboard has almost completely caved in the middle.the dashboard is no longer one piece.very disappointed, and it may eventually lead to safety related issues.

I purchased my 1998 dodge ram 1500 in the spring of 1998 and have been th only owner.currently, the paint is coming off the metal on the hood and roof of the truck.the dodge rep in the area has indicated that dodge would pay 1/3 of the cost to fix the problem.i have done nothing to cause this problem and do not believe dodge is standing behind their product.
1998 dodge ram 1500 p/u dashboard cracking and possible it will collapse.
My son and i purchased a1998 dodge ram 1500 club cab pick up truck and the dash started coming apart (cracking/collapsing in chunks) and in one instance after driving down the bumpy dirt roads here in sc (which is like driving down a set of railroad tracks at times even at low speeds). Part of the dash flew up a caught me in the eye and face. I wear glass', so i didn't suffer serious injury, but could have easy enough. I have since used a cover, but so much of the dash has now fallen apart that's not a solution anymore. I'm not sure who designed this dash, but i also drive a 05 dodge durango and a 06 dodge police charger and this has not yet happened in them. The dash seems to have gotten worse and worse to the point i'm not sure what's holding it to the rest of the truck. This is dangerous and we need a new dash or to have some type of hard cover. Doesn't seem fair we would have to spend the extra money.
Noticed in 2004 the dash of my 98 dodge ram 1500 was beginning to crack and recently noticed it has gotten considerably worse too where a big piece has came out.
Dash board has numerous large cracks and pieces are loose on each end.there is also a large crack in the center from the windshield to the instrument panel.
This is my second dodge ram that my dash has cracked and came apart. The last one was a 2002 dodge ram. With the sharp edges this causes and the wiring dangers this is defenatly a hazard and dodge should recall all these trucks and replace at no charge. I have seen countless web sites with so many people complaining about the same thing its rediculas dodge can get by with this... So much for american workmanship...
I purchased a used 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab and the dashboard is in pieces. Obviously i knew it's condition when purchased but assumed a junk yard would be the answer. I'm now realizing this is a common problem with the ram and am hoping a recall will be made...until then it's a dash mat.
He dash started cracking not that long after we got the truck. It was not even paid off when it started coming apart was used. We eventually put a mat dash cover on it to keep the parts from flying around. It has virtually dissolved since then. Very poor material was used on these.
Hit a curb going around a corner at about 15 mph with the rear tire of truck. This caused the dash to crack from windshield all the way to the airbag enclosure. I was told this could cause an airbag failure if the passenger airbag deployed.
The 1988 dodge ram dashboard was cracking. Already, had 2 cracks on dashboard. It has not broke apart yet , but it wasjust a matter of time.
I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 quad cab sport 360 4x4 with the 5.9. My dash has now started cracking and the crack is getting worse. As of right now, the crack is about 4 inches in length and is spreading. It is located right above the instrument panel and close to the vent by the front glass. I have been a dedicated dodge owner along with evening owning a dodge website (www.dodge-chat.com) and i have to say this is a big disappointment that dodge has not taken care of this issue. I think dodge needs to step up to the plate and acknowledge that this is a big issue.
My dashboard has cracked all over where it mounts to the frame and there are little sharp pieces floating around the cracked areas.
Whole dash has open hole the size of a football, and cracks from drivers side to passenger side. More open space than dash left. It cracks, breaks, and crumbles to where tape doesn't even work anymore. Falls into cab and behind dash.
Like many other american consumers owning dodge rams years ranging from 1994 -2006, the top cover of the dash has cracked and fell in. This has caused my air bag light to come on. Whether it is still functional is unknown, but highly unlikely for the light to appear. Even if it does work what would happen to my passengers, which could very well be my family, and i in the instance of a crash happening in the truck. It is very, very possible brittle, broke shards of plastic would end up in our face. With the accelerated rate that an airbag deploys, this could end tragically. Please help the tens of thousands of us that share this faulty chyrsler product problem. With little research it is very easy to see just how wide spread this problem has become. It will also be clear as to how many people this problem could harm. We are now taking a stand, starting with this. Please help us correct this issue before live are taken or ruined by faulty chyrsler products.

Dash on 1998 and 1999 dodge ram cracked. Pcs could come loose and cause a wreck. Also paint is defective paint. Just like the problem ford had with there car and trucks.
I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 the hole dash is falling in cracks all over with a few big holes i've seen that this is a dodge issue that dodge has not fixed or has not made attempted to fix.
I purchased a truck about 6 months ago and i had nothing but problems with it. I had to replaced so many things on it. I was told that the truck only had 72,000 miles on it when i bought it, after driving it for a few months. I encountered problems with it. I ended up running carfax on it and found out the odometer was rolled back two weeks before i purchased it. It had originally 167,000 miles

I was driving on a busy downtown street when i turned a corner at approximately 10 mph.as i turned i felt an awful jar. I was pulling a 12' empty trailer.i looked in my rear view mirror to see my trailer lift up about 3-4 ft. It stayed on the ball hitch but bounced terribly.i also saw a tire rolling across the road fortunately not hitting any other car. I pulled over and checked around my truck.i accounted for all 4 tires on my truck and the two on my trailer.i thought i must had run over one laying in the street.then i noticed my spare was missing and saw the metal piece where cable goes through laying in the road.the cable broke off which dropped the spare into the road which my trailer ran over.had i been going faster or on a busier highway there probably would had been more damage.only damage i incurred was my trailer mesh floor broke weld and now it is bent frame.i am not looking for a recall must at least make people aware to have this cable checked periodically and replaced if needed.

My 1998 dodge ram 1500 quad cab is located in new england where road salt is used in the winter. The undercarriage is rusting because of this, the most dangerous aspect, however is the coil spring front mounts, or buckets that hold the bottom springs to the front axel assembly. Dodge hasn't offered to recall dodge trucks to repair this dangerous design flaw, whereby the coil mounts were insufficiently coated, and improperly designed to trap salty water in them to accelerate the oxidation process. This is not unlike the safety issue ford windstar minivans had with their axles that trapped salty water during winter and caused them to rot out and snap causing injury and death. My close friend who owns a mid 1990's dodge ram truck, who had his coil spring bucket actually fail causing his front end to lunge forward, he was driving slowly when it happened so he wasn't injured. I haven't been able to find any data on injuries related to failure of the coil spring mounts, that doesn't mean they haven't occurred. Dodge should be required to at the very least, provide a kit to truck owners that repairs this problem free of charge.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500. The contact stated that while performing maintenance on the vehicle, he noticed that the coil spring bracket on both sides was excessively corroded. While driving the vehicle at 55 mph the vehicle went to the right then to the left, going into oncoming traffic.also, while applying the brakes the pedal went straight to the floorboard, consumer had to pump the brakes two to three times to get the vehicle to come toa complete stop.the vehicle has been in for repairs seven times, and the dealer still can't find the problem.power steering pump was faulty.
While driving 38 to 52 mphvibration is felt in steering wheel. Problem is constant, and when it occurs, a noise is heard. Dealers noted engineering flaw.

Truck pulls/tracks to right, causing excessive wear of right front tire.this is the same problem i had with the 1995 dodge ram 4x4 i owned.the problem was never fixed.sold the 95 and bought the 98, the salesman, service manager , and sales manager assured me prior to purchasing the 98 the problems with the front ends pulling to the right were fixed.i currently have the vehicle in the dealers service department for a front end inspection.at first they told me it was an alignment problem without properly inspectingthe suspention.additionally they told me i would have to pay to have the front inspected. If an alignment was needed i would have to pay for that also due to the alignment iscovered only to 12000 miles.i have done quite a bit of research myself talking with other consumers and viewing information available on the web concerning the front end problems on these vehicles and there substantial evidence that indicates a large amount of consumers are experiencing the very same problem.
Consumer hears noises coming from the front endwhen turning.dealer says that the tires are worn because vehicle needs an alignment.
Trucks front end oscillates when driving on concrete surface or grooved highway causing steering problems and vibration due to poor stability.yh
This vehicle has displayed front end alignmentproblems, and parts in the front end keep loosening, after purchase noticed left front wheel is shimmed out further away from vehicle than the other wheels.i was told this is a normal procedure to "balance" the vehicle after manufacture.in light of all the front end problems i need to know if this truck is safe for my family to be driving.hastestingbeen done after the "balancing"proceedureto insure this vehicle complies to handling and safety specifications?do bolts loosening in the front end constitute a safety hazard?i have noticed the vehicle pulls right and sometimes seems to react with a rapid pull right to some road surface defects and has almost pulled the steering wheel from my hands.i have been working with chrysler and the dealerships since day 1 and have gone through their dispute settlement process and was told my defects to not inflict any detriment to the value, safety or usefulnessof the vehicle!

Dt:the consumer owns a 1998 dodge ram pickup truck. He stated the bracket that holds the lower control arm on the right side broke. The dealer and the body shop said it looked like a defect in the metal. The body shop said the only proper way to fix it was to get a new frame. Chrysler said that because the car was out of warranty, they would not do anything about it.
Ball joint lubrication impossible; no grease fittings.
Lower ball joints failed at 27000 miles. No fittings for grease.
Premature lower ball joint failure in dodge ram 1500 .truck has had unusual tire wear since 44k miles and dealer as well as tire shops found no explanation.wheel bearings and tie rod ends were previously replaced at 68k miles by myself, with right side tie rod severely worn. I assumed the tie rod was the tire wear problem anddid not have problems aligning front end until this february.shortly thereafter, clunk in steering was evident, and handling became erratic.i carefully inspected front end and discovered right side lower ball joint worn to point where it was about to separate from socket.left side joint is significantly worn as well. Looking back, the ball joints were wearing out at the 44k mile point.vehicle is driven mainly on highway and in 30 years of driving and 9 vehicles this is the first one to have a ball joint failure in this manner after only 5 years of service.research on my part has indicated that numerous dodge truck owners have this problem, onsetting in as little as 20k miles causing the same symptoms as my truck, and if i wasn't so meticulous in performing vehicle maintenance on my own this may well have resulted in a serious accident.
Dt*:the contact stated while pulling out from a stop and turning either right or left there was a grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop.both front ball joints and pittman arm were replaced.there is nhtsa recall, # 04v596000, regarding the suspension: upper ball joints.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due year, model and vin.
While driving 20 mph vehicle vibrated from the front passenger side of the vehicle.also, consumer heard a knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership, andmechanicdetermined that right upper ball joint failed.
Ball joint lubrication impossible; no grease fittings.
I have a rubbing sound, pultsating.likewarped rotor but i think it sounds like a bearing going, but i was told it mat be the wheel hub.i don't abuse the truck and it didn't look like it was before i got it so,i was wondering if it me be the recall on the fractured hub.does it sound like the symptoms ?

Dashboard cracks. I first noticed the dashboard cracks shortly after i purchased the truck in july 2007. The cracks continued in both the number and length. After reading about other dodge ram owners who had similar problems and the associated electrical problems when the dashboard deteriorated further, i thought it prudent to install a plastic dashboard cover to prevent any electrical malfunctions and/or fires.

I own a 1998 dodge ram 1500 sport 4x4 quad cab truck and the dashboard is cracked terribly. Now i've spoken to a lot of ram owners and have visited many dodge dealerships and they say this is a common problem with these trucks. As you are aware the dash also houses important components of the airbag safety system. Something needs to be done about this problem. The cost to replace this dash is very high.
To date, nothing has happened, however a recall was issued saying the secondary hood latch must be replaced, as it can fly open.we were unaware of the recall.

Was on my way to work and my pinyon nut come off off drive shaft and pinyon gear busted through the rear end housing
While drivingengine check light came on, andengine got loud and locked up 50 miles later. Dealer has vehicle currently.
I like many others have a dash that has cracked and now pose's a problem. After doing some on-line and local research i have found everyone thats a '98 - '01 dodge ram has had the same reported problem. Local dodge said they can be replaced or repaired but they will crack again.. Dash caps are being used to cover the problem. "covering" the problem is not a fix. I want to know why there has not been a recall from dodge on this issue. Just how much damage will a damaged dash cause in the event of a "just right" accident that cause a body part that is right in front of driver and passenger(s) if it shatters? broken plastic can be as damageing as glass.
Dash cap and bezel are cracked so bad that if the air bag deployed, everyone in the vehicle would get a face full of sharp plastic.
The contact owns a 1998 dodge ram 1500.the contact stated that there were a lot of cracks on the dashboard.the dealer stated that there was a recall; therefore, the contact would only have to pay for the labor and not for the parts.the manufacturer stated that there was no recall for the vehicle and could not understand why the dealer stated otherwise.the failure mileage was 97,000 and current mileage was 102,000.
The dash on my 98 ram 1500 is very cracked and falling in...i also own a 96 ram 1500 with same problem...also have 2 - 97 ram 1500 with same problem...this is very bad... I love dodge rams but the dash is terrible...

The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration.
Throttle stuck wide open. Had it looked at and there was no conclusion as to why it happened.
After shifting down while going up a hill the vehicle continued to accelerate. Could not stop completely with brakes. Had to turn engine off, but by then brakes would hardly work do to heat from trying to slow down. Throttle plate was stuck. Then had it stick in passing gear while in cruise, but this time it released when brake was applied. Dealer said it was just probably carbon in the breaking loose. *nlm
While driving my 1998 dodge ram 1500 2wd 5.2 auto., the throttle stuck open at half throttle and i have no floor mats to get caught in the pedals,i tired pulling the pedal up with my foot, i had to switch the truck off while on the interstate, coasted to the shoulder and it was still stuck, restarted and it was fine and drove off and pressed it down half way again and no it sticks everytime at half throttle or more--the return spring is working fine i have been a mechanic all my life and have never had this happen, when everything feels fine--cable,the throttle linkage-my wife is now scared to drive the truck because of this--please if you can help me in anyway please send info. For the repair---almost ran into another car trying to get the truck to slow down before i switch off the key.
The check engine light appear on the dasboard without prior warning.the dealership is aware of the problem. *nlmspeed sensor was on recall but the recall did not cover the consumer's vehicle.
While driving at 60 mph vehicle suddenly accelerated by itselfbetween 70-75 mph. The brakes were appliedbut failed to slow down the vehicle. Then, consumer turned the ignition off, and continued depressing the brake pedal which slowed the vehicle down.two days later, the same failure occurred while driving at 30 mph andvehicle accelerated to 40-45 mph. Consumer immediately put vehicle in neutral and turned the ignition off. Vehicle revved. Vehicle was towed to the dealership, and 3 separate tests were done, but no failure code was found.

Manufacturer was aware, but did not notify consumers of possibility of bacteria and fungi growth in ac/heating system causing health concerns for the occupents of the vehicle because of fungi and mold spores emitted through the ac system.over the last few years have had extraoridnary problems with sinus infections caused by mold spores and fungi spores being emitted without my knowledge through the ventilation system of the vehicle.manufacturer was aware of condition, and had issued technical service bulletins about the problem, but did not notify consumers putting their/my health at risk.
Leaking from rear glass.
The moldings around the windows have cracked.
Placement of mirror, width of door post make it impossible to see all traffic comming from right. Mirror could be lowered at least 3 inches.this also caused an exact accident with a '95 ram.visibilty is very limited by the post coupled with poor mirror placement.
Cronic problems in saftey related items: steering, tires, mirrors fuel system
Outside mirrors cause poor visibility.
New glass on the right hand exterior mirrior gives driver a deceptive view of other vehicles while driving. Dealer has been contacted.

98 dodge ram 1500 2wd windshield cracked from the dash to the top during when i sprayed water on it in the shade. It was not hot, warm but not hot.next day the dash cracked from the same spot all the way to the glove compartment.i know of 3 other dodge 1500's that have the same crack in the windshield and dash.i suspect and engineering failure...a stress point.only i drive this truck. Nothing has hit the windscreen there. No chips or scratches in the area of the break.
Vehicle's windshield wiper linkage arm fell off while in use, resulting in the wiper being inoperative.
I was driving down i-94 going north in the center lane, suddenly it felt like i had a flat tire on the driver side front tire. I slowly turned into the right lane and suddenly my entire wheel rolled off my truck at about 55 mph down the highway towards the left lane and then bounced up between the concrete dividers and flew into on coming traffic hitting one car in the front end. I had driven the truck the night before about 50 miles and no problems, i drove the day of the accident about 10-15 miles before the wheel fell off the truck. All but 1 lug on the rotor were broke off and the one lug that was left was bent and the lug nut was gone. I had my tires rotated about 4-6 months prior to this accident and have heard from other friend that certain type rims are prone to the lugs becoming loose and the tire falling off. That's why i thought it would be a good idea to report this possible defect. Many more innocent people could have been seriously injured. This was an oversized tire and probably weighed over 75 lbs.dt
While driving 50 mph the driver's side front wheel fell off.*nlm
While turning a sharp curve at 30 mph left rear wheelhub disconnected from vehicle. Dealer was not notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
