A male driver was coming to a stop on a paved surface and before he stopped completely the air bag deployed and injured the driver. No other vehicles or objects were near the truck when the air bag deployed and he did not slam on the brakes.

While driving on interstate at 55 mph a mercedes benz slammed on brakes to avoid something in the road, consumer also pressed on brakes, and was rearended by another driver. The dashboard in my 1995 dodge ram 1500 is caving in.it looks like this is happening to many other people. I believe it is a safety issue, because anything that falls in the sinkhole in the dash could cause a short and electrical fire.
While driving to work...at approx 40mph my low beam head lights went out and smoke came out of the of the dash board to the left of the steering wheel...i was able to shut everything down and no other damage was caused however after getting the truck home it was discovered that the headlight switch had over heated and melted downafter my experience and other reports i have read online i would like to ask that nhtsa campaign number: 99v024000 be updated to include 1500 models as well.
Vehicle was off and parked in driveway, upon entry the next morning found a smoldering fire and a burned ignition/steering column w/ extensive fire damage.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 168,356.
My 1995 dodge ram 1500 burnt up-totaled-2 years ago. Dealer did not, would not, do the recall in 3 years of access. Not finding any reference from chrysler or you, i suggest having talked to a mechanic 2 days ago, there are still many trucks burning up, with or without the recall, therefore there needs a new campaign, but also check into the toxicity of the situation. It is melting and burning pvc's and other plastics, very toxic and cancer causing. I am fighting terminal cancer also, proven to be linked to the dioxins, heavy metals,and vinyl chlorides found in melting and incinerating pvc's. While it might not be considered your function, the proper agency needs to be informed since these are controlled substances when incinerated or burned, and per the toxic substance control act and the sara laws and the 'public's right to know', chrysler should have informed of the dangers and risk factors associated with the melting and incinerating of the pvc's and other plastics when using the blower on high, and/or the steering wheel column or the wiring in the dash is overheating grossly.

I was working and a couple of employees came in yelling the my truck was on fire.the keys was out of the vehicle yet a electrical fire started under the steering columnburning all the drivers side dash. Craked the front windshield and bubbled it up. It took less then 10 min to do all of it if it wasn't for people at my work there is no telling what would have happened.
The dash is made from hard plastic and it started cracking and is so bad now that it is falling apartplus the wiring in the dash is shorting out big hunks of the dash are coming apart.

My dodge dealership ignored a life threatening ' safety' recall on my 1995 ram 1500, and it burnt up and i believe the 8+ years of breathing toxic hydrocarbons has caused me a very serious medical condition. The fire totaled the vehicle.
On 3/09/05 we bought a 1995 dodge ram 1500 pickup from lee dodge in farmingdale, ny. On 7/01/05 the vehicle began to have smoke come out of the steering column and then proceeded to ignite into flames.the entire truck was engulfed in minutes and this truck was totalled.after this incident we found out that there was a recall back in the year 2000 for ignition wires that were overheating!the dodge manufacturer informed us that the recalls were never done andit was very possible that this problem caused the fire and is sending an inspector on 7/10/05 to determine this fact.according to the manufacturer lee dodge was responsible to have done all the recalls beforethey sold the vehicle.lee dodge has been unresponsive to date.this truck is a total loss and our neighbor's tree went up in flames as well.it could have been our homes as well as family members inside the vehicle.this is a very serious safety issue that must be addressed and lee dodge needs to be held responsible for ignoring these recalls before someone else is injured or dies.who knows how many other trucks/cars they sell with safety issues!

The procedure that dealership performedfor recall 00v135000 concerning ignition switchis causing other electrical system components to fail.there were two power failures, the brake lights had gone out along with the clock and radio.the mechanic discovered that all of the wires that had come from the back of the fuse panel had been cut very short and spliced into the wiring harness that the dealer replaced. *scc
Shorted ignition wiring due to poor engineering of wire size and amp draw from hvac fan.while backing out of a parking space, the truck stalled.the truck could not be restarted.after discussing the failure with the dealer, i was able to retain the damaged ignition switch and the cause of the failure.there technician stated that due to an undersizing of the wire which feeds power to the hvac fan, through the ignition no less, the insulation heats up and detiorates to the point at which it shorts with the surrounding the wires.the technician had cut the worst wires away for obvious reasons but the remaining wires show signs of overheating.i have read a couple of incidents like this exact one on the nhtsa trouble page.i was very lucky that i was only traveling at 5mph because at a high rate of speed in heavy traffic, this could have been a much bigger incident.chrysler has no intention on reimbursing this or fixing other owners which will ultimately have this failure.they need to reassess the possible safety issue this failure could create.thanks craig dixon.
Drove truck home, got out, went in house and heard horn blowing outside,saw smoke and flames coming from the truck, managed to put fire out and was told by investigator that the fire started in the relay box starter cable.

About a month ago my dodge ram 1500 trucks dash board cracked down the middle from the window to the front edge and all way through, then everyday it just started cracking all over the place, two large pieces are completely cracked out, leaving two huge holes. Now i've a crack going from passenger side to drivers side! i called dodge and they said no on recall and it would cost me out of my pocket about 400.00 to replace it, aside from this when the first crack happened my stereo quit the next day and my air conditioning!

Driving at approximately 70 mph consumer started to smell smoke and gas. Got out of vehicle to check to see where the smell was coming from,suddenly flames started coming from underneath dash inside vehicle. Due to defect ,truck was totally destroyed and burned by the fire.
This has not only happened to me!! i have seen from repair shops that this is a regular thing. The timing cover will start leaking at seam with block. At the chanel where water goes to waterpump. The metal there gets ate up by the antifreeze and thins the wall till there is a cupped out place at the seam . The aluminum gets eroded there. I have never seen this happen on any other car. 5.9 liter v8, 360 cubicinch engine. The metal there has to be substandard!!it is not the gasket but the timing cover that is defective. It will cause the engine to run hot. The timing cover is sub standard.

On one occasion it had taken three hours to drive five miles.the consumer was given an expert opinion and was told it was told that it was the catalytic converter which was replaced but later cut off four more times.the second expert opinion was that the problem was the fuel pump but it was in working order.the engine light had come on and read faulty crank positioning sensor which was also replaced.the vehicle cut off again within a month, in fact the vehicle continued to shut off.another expert stated that he was sure the fuel pump was the problem which was replaced.each incident happened the same way;1/4 to 1/2 tank of gas.the consumer requested a trade, recall, and or a proper fix.*scc 10/17/03 - consumer states the dealer had the vehicle for eight months and still have not found a remedy.

My 1995 dodge ram 1500 has the same faulty switch that the 3500 model has, but dodge will not cover it because you have not yet forced them to. This faulty switch causes the head lights to go out with out notice for good or it will just allow them to flicker on and off.. It also has the possibility to melt down and cause a fire.

Consumer does not have any dim lights shining on the headlights.the only lights that he has are the bright lights that shine while driving. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

Head lights: when driving and hit dimmer switch the lights go out, in order to get lights to come back on, have to hit the dimmer switch again. Have taken in for dealer to check and they say there is nothingwrong with the lights.

While towing a trailer my truck lost complete power, engine did not die. I pulled over to side of the road and in just a minute was able to drive away six times now. Tacoma dealership said nothing was wrong.i know of one other person with same problem.dt

The gas tank fell off the vehicle. The gas line broke, spilling fuel, and the metal shield was scraping on the road. Luckily there was no fire.
1)driving home from work along rt. 62 burlington when i heard a loud scratching sound. Got out of my truck and looked under to find gasoline tank hanging.2)straps holding gas tank had let go. Front of tank scraped against the asphalt while i was driving about 30mph. Deflector shield protected tank.3) truck was towed on a flatbed by aaa to repair facility. $112 x 2 straps + labor = $250 repair. Truck unavailable for 2 days.

Filled up the fuel tank with gas and it just started running on the ground for about a few minutes.

1995 dodge ram 1500 secondary hood latch failed, recall #973 causing hood to fly up and break windshield, contacted al williams @chrysler and was told not the mfg, fault, dealer quote $2440.87.
The hood latch was replaced per recall in september, 1997.on january 15, 1998, the hood released without any warning and crash into the windshield.
While this truck was being driven down the road the hood blew up and broke the windshield . Repairman examined and said that the safety latch did not engage also the spring was broken.

I own a 1995 dodge ram 1500 4x4,i was at a friends house and when i left it acted like it was low on transmission fluid.i had changed the fluid and filter the day before.when i left his house i got maybe 300-400 ft,went to go around the corner and it wouldn't go forward,i put it in reverse and it moved about 20 ft backwards and that is where it sat.i had my brother help me tow it home,and that is where it sits to this day.(the torque converter locked up,overdrive quit working,and the kickdown quit working).

I stopped my 1995 dodge ram pickup, put it in park, and got out of the truck to talk to a man to get directions to a pharmacy nearby.i talked to the man for a minute or so and he told me that my truck was beginning to roll.in my attempt to stop the truck that was rolling backwards toward a busy street, i fell and the front tire on the pickup ran over both of my legs.the truck had slipped from park into reverse.this resulted in a broken fibula in my left leg with deep cuts on my left ankle.the right leg was severely cut all the way to the bone and required 32 stitches and my right ankle was also deeply cut.after running me over the pickup then hit a car.i was hospitalized for a total of 19 days.i am still experiencing severe problems with both of my legs.my truck then ran into a car. *nlm

Bought second trans in the next town.it melted down after 150 miles.third reansmission shop went to a local dealer and replaced the defective cooler assembly and the third transmission operated without problem. Dodge never notified me of the recall, resulting in thousands of dollars of loss. I only discovered the recall when a canadian dealership asked if i had the recall performed. Something must be done about these dishonest dodge dealers.
Recall 97v084000 was issued, however recall did not include diesel engines.while driving the vehicle began shifting hard and the transmission fluid connector broke on the cooler line.as a result, the transmission fluid leaked onto the exhaust.*sc

The transmission cooling line runnig fromtransmission to the radiator rusted through and was leaking on the underside of the truck, covering the whole bottom rear end with transmission fluid. In january of this year, the drivers seat belt tentioner failed. The seat belt if of no use in the event of an accident as the belt is loose and does not stop the progress of a body going forward in the event of a frontal collision. I own a 1995 dodg ram 1500 pick-up.. I was driving at a speed of 50mph when i wanted to come to a stop i almost didnt stop and nearlly crashed into someone luckly i was able to swerve and not hit them, my brakes had almost failed.. I get home and look under my truck for leaks in brake lines, i find that my line was cracked right under neath were the back of the cab meets the front bed of the truck.. The line runs on top of the frame and right below the bed of the truck to me it seems like the line is not supported well and do to maybe from bouncing up and down in the line caused wear and tear on the line from the metal on the bottom of the bed of the truck.. I have seen numerous staements from peole on the internet haveing same issues also and nearly crashing, i feel there should be a recall of some sort on this issue and be taking care of before someone else crashes and possibly killing or hurting another person.. Now i have to spend $200.00 to get it fixed with money i dont have.. Seriously something needs to be done about this... Also my brake lines are excellent all around the truck and have no rust..

This complaint is in reference to my 1995 dodge ram 1500. I have had problems with the cup holders. It has cutouts on the sides that allows the cup to tip onto the driver during a very slow turn. I recently was burned by a cup of coffee and ended up off the road in a ditch. The cup tipped over in a smooth turn at less than 20mph. Also the poor location of the holder, which sits high on the dash, causes visual imparment to the driver. I feel that this is a very unsafe condition and could cause a life threatening accident.

Now i've a crack going from passenger side to drivers side! i called dodge and they said no on recall and it would cost me out of my pocket about 400.00 to replace it, aside from this when the first crack happened my stereo quit the next day and my air conditioning!
Dash board crumbles, we have looked to find another dash board and found out this is a problem, almost a joke, we have been told it's a dodge dash board.. They all do this. I believe it's a safety issue if the truck were involved in a mvc then the pieces of the dash would become flying objects.. And injury any one sitting in the truck. We have owned several dodge caravans and never had a problem like this or seem such an across the board problem with so many vechlies. Dodge needs to offer a replacement a fix.. Whenever consumer is driving at freeway speeds on panic stop situation the vehicle pulls to the right. The problem is reoccurring and cannot be duplicated. The dealership has tried to reproduce the defect for three years and more. Dealershp--(dodge city of milwalkee)--414-281-9100, says consumer needs to file for arbitration or continue to drive the vehicle as it is. Under normal driving conditions the problem will not duplicate byitself.

I am in the construction business and i use my truck on a daily basis to work.i was writing to let you know that i had a lower a-arm weld break from the frame on the drivers side. Luckily i was in a parking lot when the weld broke and not on the interstate. This weldholds the bottom of the whole left wheel assembly in place . This is a weld that should not fail, and i have never seen one fail. My local dodge dealer no help and said that you do not service this there is no part no for this part and ismy problem.

Tread separation occurred on the freeway for 1 tire and when we reached final destination there was excessive vibration on the other 3 tires.sears called bridgstone and they gave us credit as they were cracking and buldging and in bad shape.when we tried to seek compensation for the damage the tire caused the vehical bridgstone refused stating that the tire had to have been struck by something which is not relevant.

The dash and lower dash bezel in my truck are crumbling more and more every day. Pieces fall of if you hit a bump in the road. The cup holders are no longer functional because of this and if it continues like it is the gauge cluster will no longer be held in place. Ontop of all this if the vehicle were involved in a wreck where the air bags deployed the passenger would get a face full of plastic shards from the dash ( what little is left of it) resulting in injury and possible blindness.dodge has plenty of resources and money to fix this issue. Yes the vehicle is 20 years old and out of warranty but there are plenty of vehicles much older with solid dashes still in one piece. Dodge claims this is just cosmetic but as broken as mine its become more than that. Im sure they would rather pay to have some dashes replaced with better materials than a lawsuit when someone is injured by the defective plastic.

Driving at 45mph; suddenly vehicle would accelerate; would slow down when brakes applied; if foot off brakes, vehicle would pick up speed on its own. Took to dealer & found nothing wrong.
The cruise control switch location causes consumer to accidentally engage it.
While driving at approximately 40 mph accelerator pedal became stuck in open position, andvehicle started to gain speed, went to full throttle.driver shifted into neutral which did not stop vehicle . Driver had to ride onbrakes, possibly causing damage to tires and brakes. The throttle was reving at high speed after the vehicle was turned off because the cruise control would not disengage.
While driving under normal conditions engine experienced suuden surge in accleration. Frayed accelerator cable caused engine not to deccelerate after releasing gas pedal.
Idle motor and brain box failed.nlm
Window moulding failed causing air leak.
Climate control mode selector rotary knob split/failed causing poor visibility due to the inability to use front windshield defrost while driving.
Air conditioning/heater control switch failed.
Bearing in transmission oil pump and seal in rear sliding window failed.
Bearing in transmission oil pump and seal in rear sliding window failed.
Rear window falling out seal failed also.
Windshield stress crack.
Lugs: nutsare rusted, causeunknown.please give any further details.
Lugs: nuts and studs on wheel cannot be removed properly without breaking whenever tires are rotated or need to be changed. The lugs :nuts:studs would break off.
All four rims have developed cracks aroundbase.dealer / manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle's warranty expired, and nothing couldbe done. Please feel free to provide any further details.
