11/28/2011 at 3:19 am on monday morning, the horn on the vehicle started blowing for no reason. It sounded like someone was trapped in the vehicle and trying to get attention. This went on for about 35 minutes and finally stopped on its own just as it had started on its own. Nothing else happened for the next week.12/5/2011 at 12:13 am on monday morning, the horn started to blow again in the same manner as before except only for a short time (approx 30-45 seconds)it would start and stop at random over the next 7 hours.the horns are hidden in the engine/bumper area so my only choice was to disconnect the battery.this was done by the prompting of the police officer that answered the "distress" call that he had received from the 911 dispatcher.upon hooking the battery back up the next morning, nothing was abnormal until i started to drive to work.the horn would blow at random once again for the entire 36 mile trip to my job. I called the local dealer that i purchased it from and was told that this was an unknown problem to them and i would have to pay for the diagnostics and repairs. I think this is sad to have a 22 month old vehicle that was purchase brand new and have this type of problem.i researched the internet and found which fuses control the horn circuit and removed them to keep the peace with the neighbors and not anger other drivers . I have had 3 encounters with other drivers not paying attention and needed to signal them, only to not have a horn. I was forced into oncoming traffic last night (12/7/11) , no accident, but real darn close. I didn't realize how important of a safety item the horn is until i didn't have one.this problem is not related to the factory security system.
Low beam headlights do not work most of the time. One or the other might work at random times. Removed horn fuse as the horn would honk at random times for various amounts of time.can not drive this vehicle safely in the dark.
Door locks dont work rite ! broke something on inside of door now passenger cant get out . Have this problem on 2 of 4 doors. Also on startup twice now eletrical system goes nuts ,have no cluster lights and cant get it out of park but it starts . I unplugged battery then its fine again
I have a 2010 dodge nitro. Sunday night i had the scariest episode of uncontrollable acceleration. The pedal was not blocked by anything, it moved freely. But when i pressed on the accelerator, it kept accelerating. Nothing stopped this short of putting the car in neutral, even pressing on the brakes with all my weight only slowed the car down. I was scared out of my mind. Nothing worked except for to slam on the brakes, put the car in neutral, then park, and turn the car off. When i turned the car back on, everything was fine. I have never had any other problems with my nitro. It may be a glitch but this is too scary to not report. No one was hurt thankfully, but we were seconds away from being automatically forced into an intersection of oncoming traffic if my boyfriend hadn't been smart enough to tell me to put the car in park and turn it off. I immediately took it into the dealership (its there right now, i immediately called the dealer after this happened). I could have seriously hurt or killed myself, or someone else. I know i have read other forums where people have had the same issue with their nitro. I am seriously considering getting a new car and never buying from dodge again. I have a brand new baby i have to think about and that was too scary to even risk happening again. Dodge needsto do something about this, its unacceptable for any vehicle to perform like this, even once. Especially when lives are at stake.

Luckily i was able to get to the side of the road before it completely died. I had it towed to a garage. They tried changing the alternator and battery. It still won't turn on. It is now at a dealership and currently can't figure out what is wrong with it.
10/07/2012 at 3:00pm on sunday afternoon, the horn on the vehicle started blowing for no reason. It sounded like someone was trapped in the vehicle and trying to get attention. After locking my car and leaving it i come back to find it unlocked and the windows down constantly. Now my brake lights wont work on the sides but the top brake light does. Bulbs and fuses are fine.all three lights are connected by wire so they all should be on or off together. Today my battery just up and died. Just wondered if its all related. I have read other people complaining about the same electrical problem with windows and door locks.it happens anywhere anytime overnight or in the pouring rain when im out and about. After the car is parked and locked. The two side brake lights are out all the time the top one lights. The brake light issue just happened5/2019 the window issue has been a few years 2015
My vehicleheadlights will not cut on. Though it is not all the time it does happen a good 80% of the time and more now than ever. When you unlock the lock the lights will flicker. Then when you go to cut the lights on they will flicker on and off until they cut completely off and will not come back on until either the next day or the next couple of days. The lights will not cut on in motion or at a complete stop. This is a serious hazard especiallyfor those who go in and get off work at night. This can cause accident and is definitelyconsidered endangerment.
The ignition switch or w.i.n. Has stopped working , through research this is a common failure on these model year trucks. Unsafe as ignition may turn off while driving.thankfully mine has not failed in that aspect, but, has failed entirely, i shut engine off, went to restart, and ignition switch failed to start vehicle.
I have had problems ever since i have had this vehicle.first my a/c unit went out, the dodge dealership put a dye in my unit to find a leak, there was not leak so they filled it with freon and i was on my way.a few months later the same think happened again and they filled it again and could not find a leak.then it happened again and finally they said my compressor went out (mind you this was a brand new vehicle!!)so they replaced it. This was the first 2 years i had it.then i had issues with my gear shifter and some wire that attached it to my gas pedal or something according to them.i had taken it in and told them my car kept stalling and would not start at all, they took a look at it and the cable had snapped, so they replaced it.this was the second year i have had it.now the past month or so, all my lights are coming on and the bright red brake light comes on and stays on for a few minutes.then my car will stall in the middle of traffic at a red light and sometimes when i get started driving.i seriously loved this car at first, but i would never recommend this vehicle to anyone, nor would i ever buy one ever again.i think they need to get me another vehicle asap, cause this one is a death trap waiting to happen!
Takata recall. My 2010 dodge nitro makes a very loud, almost diesel truck like sound, whenever my car is running. It almost sounds like a vacuum cleaner inside the car. The steering wheel, seats, pedals, body, and gear shift of the dodge shake constantly. This happens sitting still and in motion. The anti theft light turned on when the car was running, then the car turned off and would not turn back on for at least fifteen minutes. The drivers side window is starting to not work.

My vehicle continuesto stall without warning. I have taken my vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions they continue to say nothing is wrong with the car, and they are not aware of any problems with the vehicle. I also have taken it to independent mechanics they say it doesn't give any codes. It seems there is a recurring issue with the nitro that is at this point becoming a safety hazard. The gas spews out when i fill the tank again they say there is no problem.
Tipm flashing , wipers do not work, abs light on- speed will not go over 40 and takes a while to reach speed. Acts as if the vehicle is running out of gas, brakes not working properly
I attempted to start my vehicle one afternoon when i turned the key the radio turned on, the windshield wipers turned on (but were not turned to the on position) but the vehicle never turned over. I checked to make sure the vehicle was in park (it was). I tried three more times to start the vehicle with the same results. Each time checking that the windshield wipers were in the off position and again making sure the car was in park with my foot on the brake. Vehicle after another attempt started. This has not happened again since?? i have noticed in my rear view mirror that the rear windshield wiper will turn on and off every once in a while randomly (without my turning it on).
Door locks failed to lock and unlock.keyless entry sends signals succeccfully, lights and horn all flash, but doors wont open;even from the door panel in the car. Found faulty fuse (m38) in tipm (fuse box).once changed the rear window wiper turned on and would not turn off.i paid an auto tech who took control over sysytem with diagnostic equipment, and by passed the wiper switch.he was able to control the front wipers, lights, horn and door locks remotely (while m38 fuse was installed) but he could not turn off the rear wipers.they stayed on even when the vehicle was powered down, key out, doors open.he said the fuse box was faulty, because everything else was working when he sent commands to the computer.i had to pull the fuse to get the rear wiper to stop, and now i cant use the door locks.i don't know if this is related, but at idle the car stutters like is going to stall.i am afraid to drive this car for fear i might get stuck if other things begin to blow/short

The heater and air conditioner flap does not open and close properly. This results in cold air in the winter at times and no defroster and the windows ice up and fog up. It has been in the shop 4 times and not repaired properly. Some days it will work and some days it will not. This is very dangerous as it might be working when you leave and turn the vehicle off and then it just blow cold air out the defroster.

When fueling vehicle gas spits out of the filler neck.
Bought this car 40 days ago from a big dealership. Supposedly they have this vigorous inspection of all their used vehicles...apparently not.we cannot fill our gas tank to the full level. Everyone we do it spits out a ton of gas, not just a little a lot!! brought it back to dealer for our 90-day warranty & naturally the warranty doesn't cover it. They think the problem is the filler neck not letting out the air for the gas to go in so it spits it all out. Cost to repair it ... $500 in hopes that is what the problem is.you would think that with this being a major safety issue chrysler would pay for it. Called chrysler customer service & they said they can't do anything for me. I guess we just run the risk of catching something on fire before anything is done about this issue. Hopefully someone doesn't get killed over something that should have been recalled many times over. Good luck to everyone's ne with this issue.
When filling the tank the gas shoots out getting on my clothes and the ground.
When filling the vehicle with gasoline a large back flow of fuel will splash out of the fuel fill tube onto the exterior of the vehicle. This has occurred several times in the past several weeks causing a extremely unsafe condition.

When filling vehicle with fuel, excess fuel will spew from the filler tube onto side of vehicle and ground causing safety issues. This has happened numerous times in the 5+ years i have owned the vehicle.
Upon filling up gasoline at two separate gas stations on two separate days, gasoline was observed to spew out even though the gas pump itself had shut off. Possible inlet control valve defect, filler tube defect. Unsure but gas simply spews out, about a half gallon before stopping.
2010 dodge nitro spills fuel out of fuel intake every time you attempt to fill up the tank.this causes about 1/2 gallon of fuel to spray all over the vehicle and the operator

Cardan was split into two pieces which almost caused an accident that could have cost me my life. There is no recall for this year

Getting 12 miles to the gallon transmission was slipping, took to the dodge shop and they said there was nothing wrong, notice slipping getting worse took to another dodge shop and they said the transmission was low on fluid and part was broke inside, took three weeks to get vehicle back, good mileage after that for a week, and now transmission is leaking again, took back to the dodge shop, asked why there is no transmission dip stick to check my self so we don't burn out the transmission, they said dodge does not make one for that vehicle? transmission is a big issue with this vehicle.
Outside temp was approx 30-35 f, engine was running aprox 10 mins, while accelerating from 30mph to 50 mph on the highway, the gas pedal stayed to the floor after i took my foot off, causing vehicle to continue accelerating to a higher mph.i put transmission selector into neutral, engine raced to a higher rpm, used brakes to slow vehicle downand exited highway. When i stopped the vehicle,i shut off ignition and heard the gas pedal pop back into position.after approx 2 mins, i restarted engine and everything seemed normal. Has not recurred as of yet. Called major chrysler jeep dodgeservice department to inquire if they've had this type of incident, they said no.they checked if vehicle was still under warranty, no it was not.they offered diagnostic check but i scanned the aldl for computer codes, none.
Moment before my drive shaft broke, i was driving 70 mph on the highway. If my driveshaft would have broke like the way it did, i could have seriously been injured or caused a death. I excited the highway, and got off was stopped at a redlight and pressed the gas with no results. My vehicle started to back up, and i had to press the emergency brake. Thank you

I have filled my brake fluid twice in the last 6 month and have noticed brake fluid in my driveway. I was first alarmed of low fluid when a brake warning light came on the dash display. I brakes felt extremely spongy.
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2010 dodge nitro. On several occasions, while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop completely. Esp. Anti lock brakes, and bas light came on dash, vehicle jerked to side, no anti lock brakes, or stability control. Had to shut truck off to reset.
Tipm flashing , wipers do not work, abs light on- speed will not go over 40 and takes a while to reach speed. Acts as if the vehicle is running out of gas, brakes not working properly
The contact owns a 2010 dodge nitro. While driving 65 mph, the contact detected a burning rubber odor inside the vehicle. After releasing the brake pedal, the brakes failed to release from the rotors. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal with extra force to accelerate. I got my dodge nitro 4 months ago first month i noticed my engine was starling and i know is i had electric issues i told my dealership and they said that if the car still running it's nothing they can do about it some days my windshield wiper will cut on by itself some days my blinker don't work i have 6 month warranty . So i was on my way going home coming off the freeway stop at the red lightthe light hit green i press the gas my wheels lock up my brake lock up and the car keep going into oncoming traffic my car is going into the wrong lane i have pictures of that making.hard for me to turn my wheel now my car been in the shop for a month still paying payments
Problem: i can hear a clicking or slipping sound when the steering wheel is turned in either direction.i paid $138 for a diagnoses to find out the steering shaft has to be replaced, the cost $750, ive never owned a car that required the steering wheel to be replace while making payments on the car or any other time, i bought the car new. A steering wheel problem is serious, why would you ever have replace critical partslike that on a car?

Traveling on 3 lane highway at 65 mph with 2 young granddaughters in car right front valve stem blew out causing car to veer to right. Upon inspection by mechanic 2 more valve stems had cracked nuts. Had to replace all stems, 1 sensor and 1 tire. Dealership refuses to accept responsibility even tho their tech admits there is a design flaw in the stem. I called schrader electronics (the manf.) they also admit there is a design flaw but because it is eom product i must deal with chrysler. They also refuse to accept any responsibility. This is a very dangerous problem that most people are not even aware of. Why hasn't your agency addressed this problem to date? it has cost me nearly $400.00 in unreimbursed repairs.
The contact owns a 2010 dodge nitro. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart on the first attempt. The contact also indicated that the traction control and abs systems would randomly stop operating causing the driver to loose control of the vehicle. In addition, the contact indicated that while the vehicle was parked on a hill the park/brake interlock failed and the vehicle began to roll. The check engine light had also illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine was misfiring but the cause of the failures were not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 500.
I was driving at about 20-30 mph. My car started making a whining sound then my dashboard lit up with multiple lights starting with the battery and then all of them. Luckily i was able to get to the side of the road before it completely died. I had it towed to a garage. They tried changing the alternator and battery. It still won't turn on. It is now at a dealership and currently can't figure out what is wrong with it.
The car alarm will go off without any contact etc.video recording shows it would just activate. It's waking up neighbors all throughout the night with no consistent times.the car was parked in front of home every time observed.
The driver's side door lock only works intermittently with the automatic key fob. Even though you can hear the locking mechanism actuate, the horn sounds and there seems to be a slight movement of the lock post, it doesn't physically lock the door.you can still push the outside door button and the door will open. I've found that it usually takes 2 - 3 attempts before it will lock.i've note after an online inquiry that several others have had the same and/or a very similar problem as well, and it was noted in one post that it was found to be a problem with a module in the door mechanism.i feel that this is a safety issue warranting a factory recall and/or repair as it constitutes a vehicle breech that would allow a safety and/or theft avenue.using the key to physically lock the door each time shouldn't be the expected response, as several others noted in their post that this doesn't always work, and the automatic key fob should be expected to work as it was intended or it's pointless to have even provided one with the vehicle.it should be said that the fault only occurs with the vehicle stationary and that at this point the doors automatically lock as intended shortly after the vehicle is in motion.
Key switches going bad and cant get keys out 1000s of complaints on forums faulty design or equipment
Loss of power and car turns off while driving.the etc light came on.very dangerous.i was driving 60 mph down the highway.
The system warnings present light came on, and said check tpm system, which showed how much tire pressure i had. For the front drivers side it said 36,front passenger side,34, rear driver side 32, rear passenger 24. Then the 24 disappeared from the screen, and the warning light kept blinking, which made me think i had a flat tire. I checked the pressure in all the tires, and there was 36 lbs. Of pressure in all 4 tires. Now every time i start the car the warning light stays on, and the pressure screen shows all different amounts. There is also a problem when i take my foot off the gas pedal, the car doesn't slow gradually, it's like it almost stops like i have my foot on the brake.
I walked out to my car and noticed it was leaking red fluid. I took it immediately to my local service center. The heating core was leaking and needed to be replaced. The same thing happened in june 2014. This time the vehicle over heated and i broke down on the side of the road. Vehicle was towed to same service center. The heater core needed to be replaced again for the same problem. Each time it was leaking from the same place. The service center believed i would have this issue again.
The contact owns a 2010 dodge nitro. The contact was traveling 60 mph when the vehicle independently began to accelerate. The contact stated that the throttle became stuck in the open position, causing the vehicle to accelerate abnormally. In addition, the contact stated that the brakes would not engage when depressed. The vehicle accelerated up to 90 mph and the contact was able to shut off the engine in order to stop the unintended acceleration. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle but to no avail. The entire dashboard momentarily illuminated yet the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the failure. The failure mileage was 393 and the current mileage was 501.
At 10 mph it accelerator pedalno response to engine and brake booster was lost but engine still running.
