Takata recall - the nitro was in motion when the airbag light came on and when the white plastic strip came sticking out of my steering wheel column.before the white plastic strip came sticking out behind the steering wheel, it sounded like something was rubbing or grinding every time i would turn the steering wheel.the ebs/bas light and the slippery when wet light also came on.now the nitro was stationary when it won't start and it will click one time along with the dash board lights coming on and the windshield wipers will turn on automatically.could this be an electrical problem or something to do with the airbag?
My nitro hasengine light on ,my tire sensor shows that i don't have any tire on the right side of the car ,airbag light on .very scary to drive my vehicle with the airbag light on .this car has been giving me problems since day one.window panel don't work , plastic parts inside car break . Air conditioner and heater don't work .car turns off by itself . Readthousands of complaintonline about this car and nothing has been done . 2007 nitro should bebandit's a very dangerousvehicle .
The drivers side airbag attached to the steering wheel just fell off as my wife was driving. Luckily it did not deploy, but she was never involved in an accident. It just fell off as she was making a right turn from the city street.danbury dodge refuses to replace the air bag saying it is out of its warranty period
So why driving this 07 nitro imeditaly you get a chime from the airbag light it very scary knowing that you get in accident and loose your life thinking air bags wont deploy due to the airbag light never going away and when it does not long and it rightback oni feel this be a recall only because this is a serious issue with any vehicle out in the world
Airbag light came on and won't go off and vehicle was not in an accident to cause this occurance! my son and fianc were just n a horrific accident in my fianc's chevy avalanche that caused the truck to roll and our friend, passenger in the vehicle, to ben killed. Now my special needs 10year old won't get in this new car because baby he's afraid since the airbag light is on it will cause us to get into a vehicle. I need a solid resolution to this asap! i just finally got him to ride in a vehicle again!
Vehicle has a new transmissio now.fuel backfires out the tank everytime i go to fill up the tank.then,my insurance gave me a recall list to have it taken in.took it to the dodge dealership numerous of times and same problem occurs and they say in they're database its not showing anything on my vin number.air bag light goes on and off allday.car beats and airbag light blinks on and off and is very annoying.a/c compressor is now out and working on getting it replaced but other than that everything is going perfect.
Windshield wipers went out unexpectedly, cv axel boot tore, transmission shifts hard
The airbag warning light came on and stays on whenever the vehicle is running since then and chimes every few minutes.
I have had a continuous problems with stalling, transmission, and braking with my new vehicle! the dealer did the recalls the reprogramming for all compontents and even replaced a kinked fuel line and they did not document that they replaced it, they told me that it wasn't available from dodge so they said they pulled it off one on the lot! the transmission slips, chugs, chatters, shudders, everything that a transmission is not susposto do! so they replaced the torque converter,i got it back and after about 20 minutes of driving the same problems started again just not as bad, each time i drive it it gets worst just not as frequent, now with the brakes, the esp/bas light comes on, when its on the brakes are real touchy like sudden stopping ,and lunging you forward, the dealer cut the rotors for a pulsation but did nothing about the light coming on! i guess if the computer doesn't say there is something wrong then nothing is, a computer is only as smart as who programmed it! there are many other problems, its been in the dealer 3 times for a total of ten days so far mainly the same three components well i have to take it back again because there is still something wrong with it, and now the engine has a loud tick, and a hissing sound along with the same concerns as before.
For 4 months since purchase of this vehicle 2007 dodge nitro it has been in the shop 8 times for issues such as; gas tank loose, stalling, lack of power, esp/bas lights malfunctioning, transmission mis-shifting, air bag malfunctioning. The dealer keep saying they are running updates but the problem still occurs. I am fearful of what could happen to me and my children while driving this vehicle and it malfunctions again.

Approx. The week of june 9,2015, the indicator lights on the dash came on, anti skid light etc. I took my vehicle in to local auto shop, they ordered the computer module and they couldn't get it to sync. They took to dodge dealership for them to program. When i picked up,lights on dash still all on. Auto shop spoke with dodge and person who programmed said they programmed the module, but something else was causing dash to light up. Auto shop tells me, i have to buy a 2nd module. After a weeks time of not having a vehicle and dodge trying to address, they realize the 1st module was faulty so they ordered a new one. Vehicle then drove fine after installation, but as of friday, july 24, 2015. As i was crossing a major light intersection, 3/4 way across the nitro dies out on me and the dash light anti skid comes on, i coast to the side of the road and i was fortunate the cars behind me were paying attention otherwise i could have been rear ended! i put the car in park, restart the car and it turns on fine, no lights on dash. I continue to head home and upon the turn into my neighborhood ( a slow turn), the nitro dies on me again and the same anti skid light comes on again. Road is dry weather is clear. I pull off to shoulder on road and repeat the put into park and start engine. I get home and called dodge and explained situation. They see in vehicle record that they did replace the computer module. Dodge is taking in my nitro to service on tues. July 28,2015.there has got to be an electrical issue with these computer modules and for me is a safety issue when your driving fine and then your vehicle suddenly shuts down because of this module.
While driving the vehicle on the interstate it will just shut off. No lights on dash or warning. When this happens you have no power steering or brakes. After getting it stopped andrestarting it will drive fine. Other times the remote will not work the locks, itwill lock and unlock by them selves after you open the door and try to start vehicle . You can put the key in the ignition and it will not start lights on dash will go off and on and after a few attemptsit will start. There are times you can not put in in park you can shut it off and restart it press brake pedal and nothing works to put it in park and then it will just go in park like nothing was wrong. All of these things happen up on occasions with no warning. It all will work fine for weeks or months and then it will act up again. The heater does not blow hot air on one side, every year you can flush out heater hose and radiator and it will blow hot air for a month or so and then it will go back to only blowing warm air out on one side. No codes are ever thrown when the things happen. There is never a warning and when you take it to the dealership or a mechanic they can never find anything wrong with it.
Dear sir:since the past year 2009 i been back and forth with my nitro 2007, to the dealer because they failed to fix the gascap light and the check engine light on the dash.i have taken the car for three time and now it came up with the same thing again.its been just two months from the last time. This time would be the fourth ride to the dealer.i am wasting my time!! please check this out.i live in puerto rico and the dealer is the 65th inf. Chrysler group in rio piedras pr.please help me. Now my car just ran out of warranty. Appreciate your business.
Drove vehicle through a parking area for about two blocks at about 15 mph when all lights, dash lights, windshield wipers, windshield washers, radio, alarm, and automatic door locks turned on or engaged. I pulled over, shut off the vehicle, removed the keys, but all of the lights, systems, alarm, etc., continued to operate.smoke began rising from the hood, and i attempted to exit the vehicle.the door locks kept engaging and locking me in the car every time i tried to pull on the manual door lock button. I was able to reach out the window to manipulate the exterior door handle in conjunction with the lock enough times that the door popped open. As i exited the vehicle, flames began to shoot from under the hood. Within four minutes, the vehicle was entirely engulfed in flames. The police and fire department arrived quickly (less than 5 minutes), but the fire spread quickly - likely because the electrical fire melted the fuel line and gasoline fed the fire (according to one of the firefighters). The car and the contents are a total loss.it was fortunate that the weather was nice enough that i chose to drive with the window open, or i would have had to kick out the window to exit the vehicle. Very traumatic.
Horn honks randomly.sometimes blaring, when i press it doesn't work. It happens when i am driving and when the car is sitting. I found several people complaining about the same problem from chrysler with the totally integrated power modules (tipms).
When headlights are switched from low to high beam or high to low beam , one headlight goes off temporarily. It can last seconds or days.
Back driver side window has came off the track twice in about 12 months, replaced motor, still did it.every time i fill up with gas it spills out all over the car and ground. The windshield wipers only work on high some of the time. Driver side door handle broke off, very expensive to fix!
While driving at 35mph headlights, dash, radio all died for 1 or 2 seconds. Everything came back on and dash when through its start up cycle like when you 1st start up and all the dash lights come on. After that everything was normal. It was 11:45pm 29 deg outside and i had just went through a carwash. This is the 2nd time this happened, the 1st time was about 3 months ago and i thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
Horn honks whenever it wants. Abs, esp/bas, traction control, and check engine light come on. Abs esp/bas and traction control lights were intermittent but now are consistent. Engine code comes and goes and says it cant communicate with tipm. Occasionally when parking and pulling out of a parking spot it feels like there is no power steering/ runs rough while turning sharply but there is no leak in power steering and it is an intermittent problem.
Well i bought my 2007 dodge nitro in jan.07 and after 1 month i encountered stalling problems, all of a sudden you will be driving at speeds of 60 mph or less and the engine would stale out and all lights come on then the car might continue on or you have to restart it. The problem is i almost got t-boned in an intersection which could of killed me something needs to be done.
The air conditioning system has stopped working. The compressor does not even come on.
Door locks have randomly stopped working. The key fob and interior buttons will unlock all doors and trunk but randomly will not lock. When using the key fob, the horn beeps and headlights flash but the doors do not actually lock. At times the doors still do not lock even after driving at 15mph, when they normally would lock automatically. When i took the vehicle to the dealership they charged me $100 to run a diagnostic test, which showed some type of tripped sensor (i think related to the abs braking system or transmission related) and an error related to the tipm. They reprogrammed the tipm and said if that did not fix the problem i would have to return to the dealership and pay $700 to replace the tipm. The problem with the locks seemed to be fixed, but only lasted about 30 days. Although i can manually lock the door, i have no way of locking the trunk area and the back doors are hard to manually lock unless you put the windows down. I think having an unlocked vehicle is unsafe, especially since i work 12 hour shifts that start when it's dark in the am and end when it's dark in the pm. I also had a problem with the brakes a couple times where it feels like i'm hydroplaning, sort of like there is a delay in the brakes grabbing, but the road was completely dry at the time. This also seemed to happen randomly 2 or 3 times, then stopped. Not sure if something done at the dealership in the past corrected this.
I bought the 2007 dodge nitro in november 2006.i had several problems with this car.brakes made a horrible squeaking noise, passenger window rolled down, but not up intermittently, very cheap interior, thesewereall small problems . But, 8 times now have been driving at various speeds between 30 and 70 mph andthevehicle had shut off with no warning.the vehicle coasted some where between 10 and 30 secondsand then cameback on.while the vehicle was offelectrical systemshut off, including the power steering.the first time i took to dealer, they said there was a recall just that day so they apparently performed the recallrepairs and gave the car back.a few dayslater this happened again, and they wouldn't even givethecar back to us because they considered it unsafe to drive. This happened probably three times.the beginning of july when it happened again they miraculously that morning received another recall on the vehicle. I guess the first one didn't work so they kept the car for a week supposedly fixed it and 5 days later it happened again.my husband drove it to the dealer ,and the service representative knewof us by first name at this point.saw him driving in and ran to the vehicle telling my husband that there wasnow a recall on the last recall!!!i have two children, the youngestbeing16 months.and the oldesttwelve.i didn'tfeel safe driving this car alone let alone with my children.the service manager told my husband today that we should contact chrysler to begin the buy back procedure.i did contact them ,and they couldtake all information over the phone and start the review process.i would encourage everyone experiencing the same problems to contact chrysler and make them accountable. Don't let you or your children lives become endangered.if this problem continued someone will end losinghis life.
I own a dodge nitro r/t 4x4 and since february 2011, the vehicle stalls and cuts off with no warning at all.this has happened many times, including on 09/16/11, when the vehicle cut off in the middle of the highway.this problem has become a nuisance and is beginning to be a grave danger.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the windshield wipers seized. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the relay switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the relay module needed to be updated. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the windshield wipers malfunctioned and all four doors would lock automatically while the vehicle was accelerating. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v438000 (visibility), which stated that the relays and modules would be updated and repaired. The mechanic informed the contact that the module not only needed to be updated but replaced as well. The dealer did not diagnose the vehicle once the failure recurred to identify any further repairs. The repair was not completed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. When the contact attempted to unlock the vehicle with the key fob, the locks failed to disengage. The contact stated that the driver side door had to be manually unlocked with the key. The contact stated that the master unlock button on the driver side door failed and all of the doors had to be manually unlocked from inside of the vehicle, causing the liftgate not to open. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the tipm module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v438000 (visibility). The failure mileage was 107,200.
Whether driving, sitting still, or the vehicle not being used, the horn randomly beeps.
First the drivers window fell a little then the drivers door master power switch started smoking and smoldered so much that i had to drive to the side of the road. I turned off the dodge and attempted to remove the switch. The connector was melted and was unable to remove. Restarted vehicle to go to dealership and the switch caught fire. Again turned off the vehicle and pulled the switch, it was melted and fell apart. There were no injuries. The wires were badly melted from the heat. Took to the local dealership.
The vehicle windshield wipers wont turn off and turn on, and turn on by themselves when you use the turn signal, or the wipers do not work at all. Whenever this random situation occurs the vehicle will also not start. The starter turns but the engine will not kick over. The driver side door handle broke off at 25,000 miles and the drivers side controls for the windows and locks operates at about 25% functionality.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning.the vehicle lost all power.the vehicle coasted for a few seconds and then restarted automatically.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the current mileage is 5,300 and failure mileage was 1,500.
Car cut off driving down the street taking my kid to school. Had it towed to find out its a short in the tipm (total integrated power module) which is basically the brains of the car. All its functions run this this overly poorly thought out computer. Repairs will run about 1,200. The recalls for this petition has been declined. Real classy dodge. I refuse to patronize this business anymore.
I started the car to move it in the driveway. After backing up, i put it in park. I then tried to place it in drive, and the shifter lock wouldn't release. (it normally releases when the brake pedal is depressed.) after a few tries, i attempted to turn off and restart the car. When i turned the ignition to restart the car, all the electronics activated, the headlights were flashing, the horn was cycling, the wipers and sprayers were running, etc. I turned off the ignition and popped the hood release. When i got out and walked to the front of the vehicle, i noticed light coming from the hood gap. When i opened the hood, flames were surrounding all sides of the tipm unit, and the hood insulation liner was on fire. I disconnected the battery and was able to extinguish the fire.
Half dozen times the radio in my 2007 dodge nitro has been on well after the car has been off...after you open the door it stops...12/4/07 i was driving at 55mph and had the radio on,it shuts off and the dash lights all come on and i have to power to the vehicle...seconds....everything comes immediately back on. I called the dealership bcp of smyrna in smyrna de and told them about what had happened.you can tell that they were not believing me.i made an appointment for them to check it and also repair the recall for the abs system.i called the next day and said they were trying to recreate the events! what?they said nothing was happening to the vehicle and no codes showed up.they told me the next time it happens do not restart the nitro ( i told them i didn't restart it, it came back under power without me) so they said when it does occur again pull over and call them....well if i am doing 65mph on the highway and get re ended i give them a call from the hospital.since then i looked up on the internet that the nitro has had a recall about the electrical system...the car dealer said that only one recall has taken place for the 07 nitro.how do i find out if my model is affected with the recall...it seems very coincidental that i had a similar mishap.
Horn starts blowing for no reason regardless of it running or parked. Hazard flashers activating for no reason. Antilock brake light flashing, limited slip lights flashing. Headlights flashing off and on
I have had a continuous problems with stalling, transmission, and braking with my new vehicle! the dealer did the recalls the reprogramming for all compontents and even replaced a kinked fuel line and they did not document that they replaced it, they told me that it wasn't available from dodge so they said they pulled it off one on the lot! the transmission slips, chugs, chatters, shudders, everything that a transmission is not susposto do! so they replaced the torque converter,i got it back and after about 20 minutes of driving the same problems started again just not as bad, each time i drive it it gets worst just not as frequent, now with the brakes, the esp/bas light comes on, when its on the brakes are real touchy like sudden stopping ,and lunging you forward, the dealer cut the rotors for a pulsation but did nothing about the light coming on! i guess if the computer doesn't say there is something wrong then nothing is, a computer is only as smart as who programmed it! there are many other problems, its been in the dealer 3 times for a total of ten days so far mainly the same three components well i have to take it back again because there is still something wrong with it, and now the engine has a loud tick, and a hissing sound along with the same concerns as before.
Takata recall there are a lot of problemswith the tipm with wiper and there stuff goingwrong from c7 area of the tipmon 07 dodge nitro slt
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the electronic stability program (esp) light repaired.while driving 55 mph in dry conditions, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated, blinked, and then the vehicle stalled.the vehicle was towed to the dealer on march 14, 2007 and they replaced the pdc sensor.approximately a week later, the vehicle stalled again.the vehicle returned to the dealer on april 6, 2007 and they cleared all of the error codes.on may 4, 2007, the vehicle stalled again while driving 55 mph in normal conditions.the instrument panel lights illuminated before the vehicle stalled.the failure occurred two more times under the same conditions.the current mileage was 8,700 and failure mileage was 1,801.
During acceleration, pedal sensor malfunctioned, which didn't allow vehicle to maintain or increase speed. Vehicle decelerated on interstate, posing an immediate hazard to other drivers. Since, it has happened twice more. Once it wouldn't allow vehicle to accelerate past 35, and the second time it wouldn't go higher than 10 (also in a 55 mph area). Second, though the recall has been on manual transmissions only, the parking break on the 2007 dodge nitro 4x4 r/t is faulty, and though the light comes on indicating it is in use, the parking break does not engage. This has been true from initial purchase. This poses a risk when parking on any grade that will need the use of a parking brake.this also causes issues in some areas in regards to inspection, and will not pass inspection without repair. Finally, when using the turn signal, the opposite direction signal will trip, causing the signal not to turn offbut just to keep switching directions and must then be toggled on and off to get it to stop.
Loss of electrical while driving on highway.vehicle turned off then all instrument light turned on, and red lines through some.turned back on within after complete shut down.this has happen twice, since first initial time.brought into dealer and could not find any error codes.so problem was not fixed and still continues.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that while parked, the power lock failed to function when attempted remotely or manually. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.
Power door locks inoperable. First happened a week or so after purchasing used. Went out on a friday night but worked again before i could get into shop on monday. Worked fine for two months until yesterday when it happened again. Cannot lock or unlock via key fob or door button. Must unlock driver door with key and manually lift door knob on all other locks. Rear door locks are extremely difficult to reach to unlock from the front seat as the locks are towards the rear of the door. Hatch is completely un-accessible as there is no way to unlock it. Locks do not lock when you drive and reach the appropriate speed and do not unlock when the car is put back into park. When key fob is used the lights blink and the horn sounds but the lock/unlock functions do not work. Brief internet search has shown others with this a problem with both the dodge nitro and jeep liberty. Currently in the shop being looked at as an electrical issue.
My nitro was broke into and the alarm did not alert me. Now the alarm goes off without warning and the doors locks and unlocks and horn chirps at any given time. The authorized dealer diagnosed the problem and stated that i had an after market sunroof and that was causing the issue. But reading everyone's post. That is not true!
We have been having issues with our door locks along with electrical problems that occur while the vehicle is running. We took it to dodge dealership and paid $150 to get it diagnosed. We were told the tipm module is not properly working. The cost would be $965.90, when doing research i have found that many dodge nitro owners have been having this same issue if not worse than what we are having. This is the main command center for all electrical functions that when not properly working is an extreme danger to the passengers. I contacted dodge and they said there is nothing they can do to help us. So you make a part in a car that is extremely unsafe to its passengers and you can't do anything to help me?with this module being out you would be better off riding a bike to work than driving in this vehicle!
Door locks became inoperable from door panels and key fob.power locks could no longer be used from either.was told it was an issue with the tipm, would have to be fixed with dealership.in reading complaints here, as well as many forums online it seems to be a very common issue.recommend a recall. Sounds as though this is not an isolated incident and should be addressed.
On four separate occasions my vehicle has shut off while driving at 55 or 65 miles per hour on a highway. All the lights in the dash come on and go out and the car coasts for aperiod of time and then the car kicks back on without warning. In one instance i was almost in an accident because i was going down a hill and could not stop because the vehicle shut down. I contacted the dealership and they could not duplicate the issue however they indicated that there was a recall on the brake system and they updated the computer. They indicated that this should stop the problem, but it did not. The problem still exist, in fact on friday, january 23, 2009 it happened again and my 2 year old was in the car and it was an experience i will not forget. The car completely shutdown while comingthru an intersection because the light was changing and i could not stop because there was no power fortunately the light was quick and the car's power came back on. I immediate contacted the dealership, since that time the car has been with the dealership because i refused to drive it because it is unsafe. Meanwhile chrsyler's customer service has been rude and not willing to address the problem, the dealership cannot duplicate the problem and chrsyler cannot offer any response.
The malfunction light esp/bas, esp/tcs, abs, and airbag warning lights illuminate(no flashing) with loss of cruise control function intermittently, but notable vehicle malfunctioning occurs when all lights turn off! with no warning malfunction lights, the engine misfires at speeds greater than 55mph, breaks lock up when attempting to break at any speed (even coasting w/dry road conditions, and there will be complete loss of cruise control fx. When the lights turn back on, the vehicle functions properly w/no misfiring or breaking issues. Whhen the problem first started, cruise control would work at this time also, until that function completely stopped working after a few instances as stated. In addition, the horn stopped sounding, radio randomly turns on when car door is opened w/3 button key fob (no engine starter), radio/disc player freezes intermittently with loss of function/ability to change anything besides turning on or off. Break illumination light intermittently turns on, then will turn off (no e break being activated). When warning lights are on, no car dealership or service is able to obtain codes and adamantly state this is not okay/normal for any vehicle to be having these serious issues w/no warning lights illuminating and for vehicle to improve when warning lights turn on. More so, that the systems large amount of erratic intermittent malfunctioning is a very serious safety hazard!! currently no recalls for vin # but 2007 nitros have recalls-my vehicle is experiencing similar safety issues with an emergent need to report immediately to nhtsa.i will resume operating vehicle regularly when responsibility is taken, admittance to there being problems of no fault of my own (owner 2009 approx 2000 miles at purchase w/all proper maintenance performed to date). Eagerly awaiting nhtsa's reply in order to properly document and correct this safety issue.
The emergency brake never worked like it should, even when new, the electric window switches and power door locks work when they feel like it, and the inside door handles break for no reason other than poor workmanship and poor choice of materials (plastic) rendering them useless. These are all known problems for years with dodge nitros . They should be forced to recall them for these reasons, especially because they are all dangerous. It's like the money pit. Dodge wants $150.00 per door just to repair the handle assemblies. Are they kidding me? who makes a door handle out of cheap plastic? we take care of this vehicle like its a new car, and never abuse it. It has only 60,000 miles on it. The first door handle broke with 30,000 miles.dodge had better do something before i no longer own this vehicle or i will cross them off my list for good. I have no problem going back to ford and staying there.(or hyundai for that matter).
Car stalls all electrical shuts off then restarts after 1 min.has done this 2 timesso far
Over the last monthi have experienced several problems with my dodge nitro slt.the most seriouswas itshutting off while driving down the interstate.two less serious issues was the driver's window often stallingand a tsm alert sounds.i have had it in the dealership twice and i still have problems with the same issues.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the automatic door locks and power windows failed to work and the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
This vehicle has had many issues. The brake pedal becomes hard to push with little braking effect then will suddenly loosen up and apply hard brakes. The seat belts act up. The door handles on the inside break while driving down the road so you cannot get out from inside. The engine revs and hesitates intermittently. The cruise control fails. There are numerous blind spots. The vehicle is not stable on the highway. It is sometimes slow to start. The window controls are in a bad location. There is only one key cylinder to unlock the doors with a key.
Takata recall the radio cigarette port and wiper motor stopped working
All the electrical componer is not working in the dash all the light is on say is not bus
2-3 times a week my car's electrical just shuts down while driving. A/c everything. It started with just the tpm gauge going off saying it was a flat but has now escalated to all the electrical in the car. I purchased this car in april 2008 even though it is an 2007 model , i have taken it about 3 times to the dealership, no one has been able to find the problem. I have had witnesses in the car when this has occurred. I am worried this could be a safety issue as it is a distraction and also i feel this could lead to the whole car shutting off. Please help
2007 dodge nitro sxt 4x4. Purchased in january 7, 2007 first week of purchasing the vehicle it was in the shop 3 times, check engine light would come on and stay on. Cpu had to be replaced and updated with new soft ware. April 8 2007, driving at the speed of 75 mph, at night, car lights, engine all quit, came back on seconds later panel lights stayed on for 2 minutes after, 2 lights stay on after that for a couple of more minutes. May 13 2007, driving 15 mph car spatters then shuts off, powered it self back up and panel lights stay ed on 1 minute go off but 2 again are still lit goes off after 1-2 minutes.
Last friday evening i left downtown columbus headed north to the subarbs and i had been driving for appx 1 hr with temperatures around 35 degrees that evening.i parked my 2007 dodge nitro 4x4 in the residential driveway, locked it with the remote doorlock, and went inside.appx. 1 hr and 35 minutes later i went back outside to bring in several items from my truck and suddenly see the shocking situation unfolding before my eyes.in total disbelief, i realize that the entire inside of my truck is violently burning.the day before it caught on fire, strange things began to happen with the dash controls.warning lights started to come on and then go off, it got stuck in 4wd and would not go back to 2wd and overnite while it was sitting in the garage it turned on the brake lights by itself and they stayed on all nite until draining the battery.all of these strange occurrences are one thing but for the truck to be just parked in the driveway and spontaneously catch itself on fire is truly shocking.if it had been parked in the garage that evening it would have burned the house down as well.the truck was totally destroyed and all of it's contents.after the fire trucks put out the fire, the fire investigator explained to me how they determine the fires origin and the report states that the origin of the fire was in the steering column and dashboard area as a result of defective and/or malfunctioning vehicle wiring.i reported the fire to dodge and they asked that the vehicle not be moved and someone would respond in 2 days.it's a week since the fire now and no one has contacted me at all.i called dodge again and they said this time someone would respond in 2 - 5 days.it looks like a good attorney will be next weeks objective.
Takata recalli leased my dodge nitro in 2007 and decided to buy it out due to over mileage allowance. Issues with this car started slowly and escalated over time. My tires lost air constantly.new tires didn'thelp. Winter i have to put air in all tires once a week. Possibly due to rims. When backing upthis vehicle would jolt out on its own not giving me enough time to react to hitting something or someone. The engine was sporadic with the way it handled power and administering it throughout functions.constant leaking of fluids. My first experience with power loss was getting onto highway, sped up losingpower and luckily able to reach the break down lane safely.after several timesthe dealer took it in and said they fixed it. Thentruck started to over heat and anti freeze would not stay in engine and out of no where it would jump to hot, lose control of the vehicle and pull over anywhere i could. After5 times or moreherb chambers could not figure out what was wrong with it. They kept my truck for severalweeks fixing my head gasket , water pump and 5 other parts, they told me i was all set to go. I drove off lot 10 minutes up the highway to have it over heat leaving me stranded on the side of the highway again without power back it goes to replace the heating core element. Six months later i lose poweraround a rotary,on highway and in a few parking lots.idecide to investigate my options to discover there isa recall and pursue the dealer about how unsafe this vehicle is and no one ever told me it had a recall and did not feel safe going any further. I was told to settle with the manufacturer and didn't seem worried sending me &my kids back into an unsafe vehicle. I became sick during the last few yrs of this and am still battling with my health. Some of this prolonged timehas been a result of not having the mental or physical capability.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.when accelerating or decelerating at 20 mph or less, the lights on the dashboard flashed on and off and the vehicle stalled in the middle of the intersection.the contact and another driver pushed the vehicle off the road.the dealer stated that he would need to pay a deductible and use the warranty because his vehicle was not included in a recall.however, the vehicle is experiencing the same failure as noted in recall number 07v291000 (electrical system).the current mileage was 32,092 and failure mileage was 32,050.
My vehicle completely shut down twice while i was driving. Another problem i have with this vehicle is that the car unlocks by itself, turning on the headlights and draining the battery. This has happened several times recently and is very frustrating.
2007 dodge nitro slt - car sitting in driveway overnightthe vehicle listed, on multiple occasions, will go into a state where attempting to start the vehicle causes multiple odd things to simultaneously happen:loud clicking noises can be heard from engine compartmentheadlights / tail lights flashwipers start and stop randomlyall dash lights randomly turn on and offradio clock is reset to 12:00 as if the battery was disconnectedradio sometimes randomly turns on/offfuel pump can be heard starting and stopping, sometimes will not stopsometimes putting a battery charger on the car's battery will make it start. Sometimes it only makes the clicking louder, along with random other events listed above. Sometimes the only thing that fixes the problem is a thump with a small rubber mallet to the black box just to the rear of the main 12 volt battery.this seems to be more likely to happen in colder weather, but is not limited to happening during cold weather.sometimes, just unlocking the car doors with the dodge key fob will cause some issues to happen. Sometimes the issues are followed up with check engine light coming on, but when codes are pulled they are invalid codes (codes checked at dealer).
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the engine failed to start and the engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the doors failed to lock and unlock. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.
I have had my new 07 dodge nitro completely die on me twice now for no reason at all.once while in a parking lot and once while traveling on the interstate.all lights and power ceased and all gauges went to 0.this is a major concern for me. I travel with my child and his and my safety seem tobe in serious danger with this vehicle.i have spoken with 3 dodge dealers and went in to have my car checked over already and no one seems to know what the problem is?i fell there is something wrong with me making a $450 a month payment for a vehicle that i cant depend on.
Drivers side rear door won’t lock or unlock with remote or by buttons in the car. It has to be done by hand.
While driving at 30 mph the 2007 dodge nitro 4x4 stalled as i was entering a right hand curve.theelectricalsystem and power to the vehicle turned off without any warning and i could not turn the steering wheel to avoid an embankment. The vehicle came to rest on its left side as it rolled off the embankment. This resulted in substantial cosmetic and undercarriage damage. Both ceiling/ curtain airbags deployed. Police and ambulance arrived on scene , and the vehicle was towed to the nearest shop. Thenitro stalleda couple of instances before this crash and was brought to the attention and serviced by the local dealer that it was purchased from.
2007 dodge nitro slt.while driving the vehicle on two separate occasions the second incident just yesterday, it momentarily stalled, but almost immediately started back up.all dash lights and radio shut off, then came back on when vehicle started back up.many people wereexperiencing this problem, and given the right conditions, could have deadly consequences.i haven't had any close calls) when this happened,i didn't to wait around to find out what could happen.dodge/chrysler neededdo something about this before someone died.
Wiper fluid shoots out the windshield wipers turn on the alarm goes off and car shuts off does all this at once.
Drivers door master automatic locks switch caught fire, there were no injuries to people. Burned the door well, removed the switch afterwards and it still arcs when placed into the vehicle again. Dodge notified and tech checked vehicle and filed a report on or about 4/19/2012. Now having issues with dodge issuing a check to repair the damage to the vehicle.
I own a 2007 dodge nitro for about two years. I park it in my driveway and for about two weeks every night, the alarmhas beengoing off until i disarm it manually from my key fob. What is the problem? has there been a recall on this vehicle?
Locks quit working the fob will only unlock the drivers side door. All other doors have to be done manually and i can't open the back hatch because there is no place to put in a key and unlock it.
Vehiclestalled, all dash lights come on and all power shuts down for a short time.
Was coming home from shopping multiple people in car was starting t o sprinkle so went to turn them on and nothing came on radio also quit working came home imm ediately be a y see if it rained any harder would by be able to see.
I own a 07 dodge nitro build date 11/06.i was going down the road and the engine and electronics shut down for 1-2 sec. And then started back up again.
While driving esp/bas lights come on and stayed on. After 3-4 key cycles it may go out. Dealer replaced sensor once before, but continued to come on, it did not store any codes. This part was replaced on 3/15/07. Dealer stated that not was found.
My 2007 dodge nitro wouldn't crank. So i took it to the dodge dealership they told me that it was the gps, well i paid to get that fixed and it started doing the same thing.. So i took it to another shop whom told me it was the battery.. Ok i got that fixed and was still having the same problem. In the middle of driving, the horn continuously goes off, so does the windshield wipers, the doors began lockingand unlocking. So i took it to one final shop and that's when they told me its a problem with the total integrated power module. I asked could this be fixed and was told its been on back order. So now i have to drive around with my vehicle malfunctioning..
Horn goes off on it own, even while driving. Starts won't start, battery is not dead. Doors lock and unlock on their own. Passenger door controls the drive setting for locking and unlocking car, shutting radio off. The drive door will lock and not let you out, even trying to pull it up manual and it won't let you. Have to use key in door to unlock and quickly open before it locks again. In an accident this could be a big problem.
I am having multiple issues.the gas tank overflows every time i get gas, the air conditioner only cools while driving and sometimes produces heat instead, the locks do not work 4 out of 7 days a week, the tpm signal comes on every few days even though the tires are fine, and the windows do not work on occasion.although this appears to me there is an electrical and gas tank issue, there are not any recalls issued at this time.i have called the dealer several times and have been told that i will need to bring it by when things are not working in order for them to do any type of diagnostic testing. I consider both electrical and gas to be a safety issue and would like for someone to address this concern. In addition, but i am not sure if it is directly related to the electrical issue, both brake lights stopped working.
My car lost all power. It would not start or roll up the windows but at times it would blow the horn and windshield wipers would turn on but car would not start. This was after i drove it home and turned it off. Also the windshield wipers will stop working while driving it. I took it to the dealership who charged me $1200 to replace my tipm.
Car dies while driving, all lights on dash board came on,lost all power, and the within about 10 seconds it starts back on its own. . dealer said they couldnot duplicate the stalling issue, this was a serious problem, when kids were e in an automobile that you don't know when it wasgoing to lose power, it is an accident waiting to happen.twice itstalled, and luckily my kids weren't with me. Please advise. Something needs to be done. Before someone get seriously hurt.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the doors and the hatch door failed to unlock. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
Driving at 65 mph on major highway, car stalled, all dash lights came on, car restarted.yesterday this happened again, this time tractor-trailer bearing down on my husband, he tried for the shoulder, hit some debris there, broke the front fascia, car restarted.many occurrences listed on www.nitroforumz.com from many dodge nitro owners around country and in canada.please investigate this potentially dangerous, life-threatening flaw in the 2007 dodge nitro.
Complaint concerns engine stalls.dodge nitro (07) purchased in january 1. 2007.under 5000 miles on car: in march while drivinga t 65 mph vehicle stalled. Dash lights turned on, car coasted, then restarted on its own after 2-3 seconds. Scared the daylights out of me. Driving conditions, wet, mid-40s, night.notified dealer, but unable to schedule due to upcoming 3-week vacation. Second instance may 21, driving 65, felt a 'clung' car stalled, coasted to count of 3-4 seconds, then car re-started. Dealer notified immediately, also that car was shifting rough and clunky. May 24, dealer checked for tech bulletins, wiped out transmission module programming and re-programmed.don't know if this is fixed...sometimes still shifts hard, and there was some time between first two engine failures.have had other little glitches like one car door lock does not work with key fob.i am weary of this happening again and me being in an accident because of it...god help everyone at that point. Chrysler needs to take the initiative and get this done immediately. Or recall car.
December 12, 2007: i started my vehicle and i did not have any headlights, any turn signals, back windshield wiper was running and would not turn off, no heated seat, etc. Etc.i had to wait until daylight to go to the dealership.they have had my vehicle ever since.it has only 4,000 miles.they state it that they will have to replace the entire instrument cluster.it has been 17 days now and still no parts to fix my vehicle.from reading all the complaints on electrical in relation to this vehicle.it sounds like there is an on-going problem w/the lights and electrical system in this vehicle.it is a poor system when the dealership can't get parts for a new vehicle.
Got vehicle 12/06 - it stalled a couple times when driving/backing at slow speeds. 4/19/07 - while driving 50+ mph, all dashboard lights and radio went off.within a second, all lights and the radio came back on and vehicle seemed to run ok.we are calling dealership to discuss/take in for service.have read many similar comments from other nitro owners (www.nitroforumz.com).

When driving the vehicle through a left hand turn, does not matter what speed you are driving the esp/tcs indicator light comes on the dash and the anti-lock brake system engages causing loss of power and sometimes steering until you are thru the turn. I went to the dealership, they said they took the vehicle for a test drive and nothing happened. They also informed me that since "no code" showed up on the computer that there was nothing they could do about the problem. What can i do as a consumer to get this problem rectified. My vehicle has a 36,000mile warranty and i have 35,000 miles to date on the vehicle. I feel the dealership should take a little more responsibility towards my situation but they do not want to be bothered. What course of action does a consumer have under these conditions?
Takata recall - the nitro was in motion when the airbag light came on and when the white plastic strip came sticking out of my steering wheel column.before the white plastic strip came sticking out behind the steering wheel, it sounded like something was rubbing or grinding every time i would turn the steering wheel.the ebs/bas light and the slippery when wet light also came on.now the nitro was stationary when it won't start and it will click one time along with the dash board lights coming on and the windshield wipers will turn on automatically.could this be an electrical problem or something to do with the airbag?
All the electrical componer is not working in the dash all the light is on say is not bus
Failure of drive train and transmission at 94,000 miles.authorized dodge dealer shop is saying $13,000 to fix.

Wiper fluid shoots out the windshield wipers turn on the alarm goes off and car shuts off does all this at once.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the engine stalled without warning.the vehicle resumed as normal once restarted. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000. The vin was unavailable.
On february 26, 2015. While driving on the 605 north in the #2 lane. I noticed my car temperature gauge went straight to hot. I slowed down and put my hazards on and proceeded to get to theshoulder by safely passing into the next lanes while other cars were traveling at freeway speed limits. Once on shoulder shut off car and kept hazards on. And sat in my car approx 45 minutes to an hour and then restarted the car. I noticed it did not immediately go to hot, still driving in the shoulder with hazards on for safety precautions at a slow speed proceeded to nearest off ramp and exited. While driving down the street at a lower rate than the posted speed limit, the temperature gauge started to go to hot again i reached the car repair shop i had been to before which was 2 miles from the off ramp. I pulled into the car repair shop around 5:00 pm. I stated to the receptionist that my car was overheating. The next day after diagnostic tests, it was determined that the water pump had failed and needed to be replaced. Previously on 3/14/2014 another water pump failed and was installed by the dealer glenn thomas dodge. In reviewing the car's records with dodge corporation during warranty there was another water pump which failed and was replaced in 2011 by glenn thomas dodge. This has made three (3)times that the water pump has been replaced in my dodge nitro 4x4 2007.
When driving, over the past year, the engine shuts off and the steering wheel locks. I have been in an area that i can stop and restart but the steering is locked up so i can't move the vehicle. I am very scared that it will do it while on the freeway and i will be hit at high speed on the freeway.
Car prone to stalling, primarily when making turns, having occurred on numerous occasions with most recent on saturday, 10/13.car has been to dealer on 3 occasions and claim nothing is wrong.chryler is also rejecting my efforts to seek repairs to make care safe.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. When he stopped at a traffic light he engaged the accelerator and the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred four times while he was driving as well as another driver of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure.the vehicle was purchased used in november 2010. He called the manufacturer and referenced recall 07v291000, electrical system and they were not aware of this recall. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 67,000.
I have had five instances where i have been driving at speeds ranging from 45mph to 70 mph and the car unexpectedly shuts off.all lights, radio and power turn off for a few seconds and then turns back on without any intervention.after the car resets, it takes another second or two before you can push on the gas pedal and accelerate.if you try to accelerate too soon the engine just revvs.i have also experienced the car turning off once and having to restart it while pulling into a parking space.after the third incident, the car was brought to the dealership service department and they stated that they could not replicate the problem.it has happened twice since then and is going back this week to be looked at.from looking at the complaint listing, i have been lucky/blessed not to have experienced an accident and something must be done before catastrophes start to happen.lets not have another ford/firestone fiasco.
I have a 2007 nitro rt and it has been in the shop for uncontrolled acceleration.this was the first time this has occurred.it has been looked at by the dealership, chrysler and an independent engineer and they cannot diagnose the problem. The incident occurred one morning when trying to park my vehicle, i was almost to a stop and ready to put it in park when the engine revved and the wheels spun like i had stomped the gas but my foot was on the brake.at this point i had both feet on the brake and it would not stop until i hit a full size pickup and pushed it into another vehicle.these two vehicles held my vehicle and i was able to put it in park.my nitro was still revved up and wheels spinning when i put in park.chrysler checked the computers (bcm, ecm), braking, tps and probably a few other things but have yet to identify the problem.i searched this website and found at least three other complaints stating the same situation so i know i am not going crazy.the other complaints involved the same or similar vehicles.i have another engineer coming to look at the vehicle (my insurance company hired) so i would appreciate any ideas you might have in order for my nitro to be fixed because at this point i am making payments on a vehicle that is not safe to drive.

The air conditioning system has stopped working. The compressor does not even come on.
I own a 07 dodge nitro build date 11/06.i was going down the road and the engine and electronics shut down for 1-2 sec. And then started back up again.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.twenty minutes after the vehicle was purchased, it overheated and had to be towed back to the dealer.the dealer stated that the clamp on the oil cooler was missing and had to be replaced.the vehicle stalled and shut off completely the following three days and almost caused a serious crash.the vehicle was taken to the dealer six different times and they replaced the tipm; however, the failure still occurs.the vehicle is not being driven.the contact notified the lemon law office.the speed was unknown.the current mileage was 5,300 and failure mileage was 18.
The harddrive of the mygig stereo system of the 2007 dodge nitro rt has a malfunction.three times, within the two years we have owned the car, the hardrive has erased all music, photos, and/or addresses from it's database without reason.each time all media was on hard drive the day before, only to be completely gone the following day.the last time this incident happened was in november 2009.
I have had my luggage rack/rail bar replaced over ten times by dodge. They now say warranty is up. There is obviously a defect with the part seeing the rack i have never used comes loose and breaks from wind speed. This part needs to be recalled and replaced to the owners and the dealership needs to guarantee their work and parts.
Brought truck tothe dealer due toair conditioner (a?c)not cooling offthe truck. They stated they tested and it was working normally. After picking upthe truck on / 7/19/07 went home with ac on, it was84 degrees outside. Put the thermometer in truck and drove with windows up and a/c on high for 1 hour. Temperatureoutside wasstill 84 degrees, but temperature inside truckwas 80 degrees.drove back to dealer service department, left truck running, showed them, and they told me thatit was normal, because the cold air at the vent was 45 degrees, but at the driver's seat it was 80 degrees.this has to be a problem.
My low beams stopped working, it is not the bulbs. High beams work and so do the fog lights, just not the low beams. Very dangerous situation at night.
Interior hazing of the headlamp lenses. Both replaced at 16,000, right side replaced again at 30,000, left side starting to show slight signs of same problem at 33,000.
My vehicle completely shut down twice while i was driving. Another problem i have with this vehicle is that the car unlocks by itself, turning on the headlights and draining the battery. This has happened several times recently and is very frustrating.
Upon fueling up my gas tank, the nozzle will click off and then about a half gallon of gas comes rushing off.
I am writing this complaint due to the fuel valve system being a defect.there has been so many complaints regarding the fuel system such as when your pumping gas it is overflowing due to the fuel valve not working properly like it should.this is a big safety reason due to it shuts the fuel off if the car are rolled over which may cause serious injury to whoever is involved.my car only has 38,500 miles on the car and is used.i got it a year ago and it did it to me twice when i first did it but then haven't done it since the last 5 fuel ups and now it is over flowing every time.they have recalled the jeeps due to this problem but they have not the dodge nitros.the dodge nitros have the same fuel tank in them as the jeeps so what are they waiting for.for someone to get seriously injured or even die because of this problem.it get it repaired cost over 1,000.i got it used and the dealer isn't even willing to cover it.i believe they should recall the dodge nitros for the fuel system due to the seriousness of this because i know i am going to be having a newborn very soon and the safety is very high and if they do not get recall i will be getting it fixed since now a days the people who sell these products don't care about their customers anymore.
When our 2007 dodge nitro is fueled up it over flows out of the gas tank neck. When fueling the gas pump nozzle will shut off as it should but then approximately a quart of gas will come shooting out of the gas tank neck and with this amount of fuel spilling it appears to me to be a very dangerous situation. It has also shot out and consequently covered my pants and shoes with gasoline and then to have to get in your vehicle and drive home is disgusting because of the smell. The spilling occurs every time that you fuel up even when you kick the nozzle off manually when near full. This is definitely a manufacturer defect and thank god a fire has not occurred because of the fuel spilling. The dodge dealer informs me that it is going to require a new gas tank at the cost of $364.00 plus labor. This vehicle is only four years old with 32,000 miles, which i have owned since brand new.
When i filled my gas tank and the fuel nozzle had shut off gas overflowed and spilled out of the filler neck. My understanding is that this is do to a defective air vent in the fuel tank. I understand that the air vent in the fuel tank is to protect the gas tank from exploding during a vehicle roll over. If the air vent is defective then i would assume that the gas tank could explode during a roll over.
Fuel spills from filler neck when refueling.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.the contact stated that while refueling, fuel spewed back onto the contact.the manufacturer and dealer denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.
2007 dodge nitro, fuel spills out of tank when filling up vehicle. Gasoline stations pump auto shutoff won't work with vehicle causing fuel to come splashing out when full.from investigation of other incidents from other owners, this is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and your car could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and that chrysler knows about it and will not repair without charge unless under warranty.
Fuel spills out all over the ground when fueling the vehicle. Started about a year ago when mileage was around 47,000. Now at 68,000 it is still doing it. I have to guess when to stop fueling. Please recall this vehicle again. Very dangerous and not good for the environment when fuel spills onto the ground and later enters our bays.
Splash back of gas every time i fill up. Runs down side of vehicle and onto ground seems like a major safety concern dodge should address. Called the company and they gave me a case number [xxx] and sent me to dealer to have my 2007 nitro checked. Dealer found gas tank check valve stuck closed and seal torn. To fix problem fuel tank and valve need to be replaced;$975. Called company back and since my mileage was 43,000 told me i would have a co-pay of $450.needless to say i wasn't happy to be paying for a safety issue dodge clearly knows about after reading other complaints on various websites.after telling this to my dodge case worker chelsie cs1123 she told me they weren't changing their policy and gave me 30 days. I had vehicle fixed and paid co-pay. Dodge knows they have you over a barrel and you can't do anything about it. I hope it doesn't take someone getting hurt before dodge takes responsibility might think that's cheaper than replacing faulty tanks and valves on all dodge nitros. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the gasoline sensor was not working while she added fuel into the vehicle. The fuel would over flow and not indicate when the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the fuel tank was replaced and the cost was covered under warranty. The failure recurred after the vehicle was repaired. The dealer was contacted and stated that they would inspect the vehicle but if the fuel tank needed to be replaced they would not cover the costs. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 30,990.
Within the last few weeks every time that i went to fill up my gas tank, gas would start pouring out of the gas tank.at first i thought it was the pump so i went to several other stations and every time, gas came out.the warranty for my truck just recently went up and i've made several calls to chrysler to have them pay for this out of their pocket.it's something that is faulty with their gas tanks and i'm not the only one that is seeing an issue.hopefully with your help a recall can be issued for this model and make chrysler stand by their product regardless of warranty.its a major safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately.
I filled fuel tank and used the auto fuel fill feature at the fuel pump the pump shut off and when it did approx a quart of gas came spurting out all over the paint and onto the ground leaving a puddle of fuel,to me this is a major safety problem and should, but is not a recall for this vehicle.
2007 dodge nitro. Every time we refuel the nitro gasoline overflows out of the fill line, leaving gas down the side of the dodge nitro and on the ground. We used other gas stations pump nozzles and still the same, gas everywhere. It don't matter how fast or how slow you fuel it still overflows.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that gasoline fuel would spew out from the filler neck when refueling to capacity.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection where they stated that there was a failure in the check valve, which needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified who stated that there were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.updated 8/23/12
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro.the contact stated that the gas filler neck did not detect when the gas tank was full, causing the gasoline to overflow onto the vehicle.the dealer was contacted, but was unable to assist the contact.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 55,000.the vin was unavailable.
As you are putting gas into the fuel tank it will overflow from filler spout and spill out causing a hazardous condition and environmental problem. This will happen no matter the amount of fuel in tank. Gas overflowing on the 2007 dodge nitro when attempting to fill the tank is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and my car could possibly explode in a rollover accident.

Drive a 2007 dodge nitro and every time i fill my gas tank for the past 8 months the pump will shut off (like it should) then when i go to take the pump put gas shoots everywhere on me the car and ground i have not been able to "fill my tank at all i have to stop when i think it might be getting semi-full. I have read many forums on this problem. And believe that it i common problem with dodge nitros and should be fixed soon before it gets worse.
I own a 2007 dodge nitro with 47,000 miles that recently every time i fill up the gas tank, gas will spray out of the filler neck. It doesn't matter if the gas pump nozzle is being held or if you set it to fill automatically. As soon as the gas stops pumping, you can hear what sounds like a burping sound then about a cup full or more of gas comes spraying out of the filler neck. Have heard of other nitro owners with the same problem having the gas tank replaced because of a stuck roll over valve. My vehicle has yet to be repaired.
Regardless of which station i use, gas overflows from my tank every time i refuel. In order to avoid this, i have to stop fueling because it never automatically shuts off. I've read blogs & talked to other dodge nitro and jeep owners and they are experiencing the same problem. Not only is this damaging to the vehicle, it is unsafe to have gas spilling over at the stations and having gas on the exterior of the vehicle while driving.
My nitro spews gas all over when i am filling it too.talked to dealer, they told me it was the pump.not the case.this has happened at many, many different pumps.called chrysler directly and they threw another story at me that was a total lie.everytime i fill up if i don't listen close enough it shoots gas out the filler neck and all over the vehicle.this is a serious safety matter that they refuse to address and pay for.i am calling an attorney this week to have them address this.hopefully chrysler will absorb all costs.doubt it but it's worth a try.
Every time i get fuel the pump will shut off, and then fuel will pour out of the fuel filling area. It
I own a 2007 dodge nitro and have for 3 years. Gas overflows from the gas tank every time i fill up. This is a serious safety issue.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.when the contact filled up the fuel tank, gasoline would spew back out of the tank.she also smelled potent gasoline fumes inside the passenger compartment.the dealer could not duplicate the failure and stated that they would monitor the issue.as time progressed, the vehicle continued to experience the same failures.a diagnostic was performed and the dealer stated that the fuel pump and tank needed to be replaced.the contact would have to pay for the repairs because the vehicle was out of warranty.he has supporting documentation and video that demonstrates the failure.the current and failure mileages were less than 44,000.
2007 dodge nitro r/t overflow on gas tank spill quart of fuel on each fillup.i understand the tank has a faulty cutoff inside the tank which malfunctions.that means in the event of a roll over it will release fuel which increases probability of fire/deaths.dodge is replacing tank on vehicles under warranty - they should replace all the defective tanks.help!
Vehicle 2007 dodge nitro slt 3.7 v-6: when fueling up the gas pump would click off and gas would come pumping out of the fuel door. Took my nitro to the dealership for repairs and after 2 failed previous repairs dodge replaced the gas tank and found a rollover valve was stuck which causes pressure in the tank. The pressure would build up and as you fill up the gas would over flow when tank was full.
I own a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4, bought it in 2010 since buying it i have had persistent problems with filling the tank. It seems that when i would fill the tank to the point that the pump shuts off i would have fuel shoot back out and down the side of the vehicle and on the ground. Excuse but do we not see a serious problem here? took the vehicle to dealer first they replaced a canister located in the fuel tank. Did not fix the problem. Then they checked the fuel tank vacuum line for kinked line again not fixed. Finally they determined the roll over valve is faulty so they replaced the tank out of my pocket. My mileage was only in the 30,000 range and the warranty was expired. I have read hundreds of other complaints about this very subject and still dodge refuses to make this right. There is no recall on this problem any where and i would think dodge would want to make this right. Did they not learn from toyotas mistakes. Complaints include 2007 and 2008.
Gas overflows everytime i fill my car. I have read that this is caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident and that the valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and your car could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and that chrysler knows about it but has done nothing to resolve the issue. This is a big issue and a recall should be put in place.
When filling the vehicle up with gas the pump does not shut off. It has spewed gasoline all over me, the vehicle and the ground. It appears to be a problem with a valve in the gas tank. This is a safety concern. I hope they don't wait until someone is killed in a fire in order to fix the issue.
2007 dodge nitro, 3.7l engine, 4wd - everytime i fill the tank with gas, before the pump shuts off, gas spills out of the fuel filler.i've read about the jeep liberty and other dodge nitro's doing the same thing.i've tried different gas stations, filling slowly, etc.all with the same result.at $4.00 per gallon, i can't afford to waste a drop of gas.not to mention the environmental impact of spilling gas all over the ground.we need to get the gov't involved and do a recall to fix the fuel tank rollover valve.if the us dept of transportation doesn't do anything - lets get the environmentalism involved.this is not only a safety issue right now (fuel spilling all over the ground could cause a fire), but if the car is involved in a rollover, gas will spill all over the place.help me, help us all, help the environment.
2007 dodge nitro 4 x 4 - when filling with fuel a problem in the gas tank and or filler neck assembly makes significant quantities of fuel spill, and in some cases under force, spray out of the vehicle.approximately 1-2 measuring cups is the general amount.fuel spills on vehicle, gas filler nozzle assembly, the ground, and often on the person filing the vehicle.this happens on every fill up with fuel.i have personally seen 2 other nitro vehicles and one jeep liberty suv have the same issue while at a gas station.gas station attendants actually commented this happens on these vehicles, "all the time". The dodge corporation website pages specific to nitro owners have hundreds of complaints listed on this issue.contacted local dealer - was told they are completely unaware of the issue.they charged for diagnostics and said the entire fuel system needs replacement.they quoted 3 times the amount to have work done at a local independent shop.they refused to guarantee the problem would not continue.complaint #21091094 filed with chrysler corp. Research from other owners states a valve or vent molded into the tank is the issue.problem persists with vehicle as of the date of this filing.anecdotal accounts that a defective "rollover shut off valve" at the top of the tank is the real problem.i have been unable to independently verify this is even a part on the tank assembly.this is a major safety, and environmental pollution issue on many thousands of vehicles - please help owners of the multiple models and lines of vehicles which are affected by chryslers refusal to admit there is an issue or voluntarily fix these cars!updated 08/17/11
Every time i attempt to fill the gas tank, the pump does not automatically shut off when the gas tank is full.gasoline overflows out of the car's fill tube, down the side of the car and onto the ground. I am not forcing gas into the tank. I am only attempting to fill the tank as i have done for many years on my previous vehicles.
Towards the end of fueling the vehicle the fuel spills out of the filler tube.
I have a 2007 dodge nitro and ever time that i get gas when the gas nozzle shuts off gas actually is shooting out the gas fill valve. This may be problem with the fuel tank rollover valve.
When filling gas tank, once the tank is full it does not trigger the fuel pump to shut off and gas comes spewing out of the tank until you manually shut off the fuel pump.
2007 dodge nitro, fuel spills out of tank when filling up vehicle. Gasoline stations pump auto shutoff won't work with vehicle causing fuel to come splashing out when full.

During refueling, whether manual shutoff or automatic shutoff, fuel overflows from filler neck. This began about 27,000 miles and continues. Spilled fuel on skin is causing irritation. Multiple incidents, search on internet reveals numerous complaints form multiple owners of same safety failure. Significant gasoline spills out, flies onto persons fueling vehicle and ground, causing potential fire hazard. This must be addressed with a recall, dealer claims no knowledge of multiple complaints from consumers and hazard is great.
When filling my 2007 dodge nitro up with gas, there is no automatic shut off when the tank is about to be full, causing gas to spill out on the vehicle and gas station. This has been happening for about a year, i mentioned it to the car dealership where i purchased it, but they did not look into it. Now that dealership is closed and the "new" service station says i am 600 miles past my warrenty at 36600 miles.
When fueling vehicle, gasoline will always squirt out of the filler pipe.this is a fire safety issue that chrysler should be addressing.i have to put my ear down next to the filler to hear when the tank is getting close to full, and hopefully shut the pump off before it spews gas all over side of car.
I have a 2007 dodge nitro slt 4 x 4 and everytime i fill it with gas, the gas pump clicks and then gas comes shooting out and runs all down my car.i bought this vehicle in mid january 2010 and it has happened everytime i fill my tank.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated while refueling the vehicle, the fuel would overflow and onto the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the failure could possibly be a rollover valve in the fuel tank that was faulty. The dealer advised that the rollover valve should be replaced because in the event that the vehicle did rollover, all of the gasoline would spill. There were no recalls for the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000.
When filling the gas tank, it does not automatically shut off.it spews gas everywhere, getting on me and the vehicle.this happens every time i fill up the vehicle.the problem has not been corrected.
2007 dodge nitro gas tank overflows everytime tank is filled.when fuel pump clicks off several seconds later 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon of fuel spills all over the back of the car and ground.causing a fire hazard. From my understanding it is a check valve in the fuel tank that dodge will not cover.my nitro is out of warranty.
I have problems when fueling my vehicle.i do not top off.when the auto shut off on the hose clicks, gas will shoot out of the vehicle.this will happen every time if i don't stop the fuel before i know it is almost full. Because of this back flush of fuel, the check engine light will come on along with the gascap light.had this checked and dealership put a new gas cap on and changed a filter in the gas tank.a few months later the same problem happened.i was told that i needed an entire new gas tank. I was not about to spend that much money, so i said i would just be sure not to fill the tank to full.again, i have the check engine light on and the gascap light.when will a recall be issued so the tank gets replaced on chrysler's dollar?shouldn't the gas tank have a lifetime warranty unless there is neglect or an accident?
Gas tank overflows when filling tank. Auto shut off does not work. Gas tank needs to be replaced.
I have a 2007 dodge nitroit has 29 k miles on it every time i fill up with gas it spills out about a half a gallon of gas from the neck of the tanklike there's a lot of pressure in the tank this spills all over the side of thecari have read of about 1 to 200 complaints about this when is dodge or chrysler going do something about this is a fire hazard and a safety concernwe the owners of dodge vehicles really need a recall on these gas tanks.
Hi i bought my 2007 dodge nitro in 2007, i have not had many issues a few minor ones no biggie. But recently the last year and a half my check engine light kept coming on then going away coming on then going away. It was getting me aggravated. Everytime i took it in to the dealer they said no everything is fine ok sure. Lately everytime i go to fill up my tankit has been overflowing. So i was really fed up i took it in and explained the situation to them (dealer) they informed me that it will need a new fuel tank and fill neck. Now i have done some research and apparently im not the only nitro owner going through this issue. I hear that the valve is defective and that it's a manufacturer defect and that chrysler knows about it. Now bear in mind we have all been driving a car god forbid got into an accident and the car blows up because of that. I am not happy i will pursue this and my service better get covered thank god i got the extra warranty!!!! i suggest on everybody's behalf that a recall is issued and if i pay the decidable i want my money back!!!!
When filling tank with gas, fuel will spew back out splashing all over person, ground and surroundings.this happens when fueling is complete and you are removing the nozzle after the nozzle is shut off.. The back splashis so violent, gas will splash into your eyes.

The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. The contact stated that the fuel check valve within the fuel tank was not closing when the tank became full. This caused the fuel to spill back out because which indicated that the fuel tank was full when it was not. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the check valve needed to be replaced. This failure was not covered under the warranty since his vehicle had too many miles on it. There were no recalls related to the failure. The failure mileage was 61,000.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4.while driving 65 mph or greater, the tire pressure monitor alarm sounded and the deflated tire icon appeared on the instrument panel.the contact checked the driver side rear tire, but the tire was not flat.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three separate occasions.the tire pressure monitor is still not working properly.the current mileage is 8,570 and failure mileage was 6,623.the consumer stating still waiting for dealer to receive a response from chrysler about the defect. The consumer provided repair invoices for the vehicle and a vehicle inspection report. The dealer stated fuel tank locking, when cold and moving a popping sound in wheel, heat coming up through steering column, and brake pedal feels low. Updated 08/07/07

When fueling my 2007 dodge nitro, the fuel kicks back and spills out on car and myself, no matter how slow u put fuel into vehicle. This happens everytime i fuel vehicle. Very dangerous to me and fuel station should someone cause a spark to ignite this fuel spill.

Gas tank overflows everytime i allow the pump nozzle auto stop.i have tried different gas stations with different pumps to see if it made a difference.made no difference, it overflows every time.the pump does kick off and stop, but the gas comes pouring out about a second later.not only is this a personal hazard as gas is extremely flammable, it is an environmental hazard when the gas pours on the ground.
Every time i fuel my 2007 dodge nitro with gasoline it over fills and pours all down the side of my suv and all over the ground and splashing gasoline all over me.
Fuel tank overflows every time that we fill the tank.when the gas is filled, the nozzle is fully inserted in the tank and will not automatically shut-off spilling gas everywhere until i manually stop the nozzle.
A month ago started hearing a high pitch whistling sound. Got louder as i accelerated, now a constant sound. Driving at 2,000 rpm it wouldn't shift into 2nd gear. Went into "limp mode"took to transmission shop said that torque converter was falling apart and debris got into the fluid and up into pump and.transmission.told i need a new transmission.7yr old vehicle needing a transmission? had chevy's that lasted well over 210,000 mi. Filling gas tank waiting for automatic shut off. Never happened. Gasoline spewed out onto ground and me.this is constant. Tried a different pump and station, still gas not shutting off. I no longer fill up the gas tank. Having to figure out what size tank and how much gas is left in tank before adding more gas. This started 2 yrs ago. Chrysler step up and take responsibility for the substandard parts that are used to build these vehicles that the public put trust in!!!!!!! i will no longer buy a dodge / chrysler product.
I just bought my nitro but every time i fill up the gas tank it will click off at the nozzle but then i get gas spewing back out! it has happened to me twice now at two different pumps at two different gas stations. It scared me very much and is a huge safety hazard! my nitro is no longer under warranty but i know i am not alone with having this issue. The only fix i know of is replacing the gas tank at my expense. I feel as this is a well known and prevalent issue dodge should address it asap!
We bought this vehicle used with near 16,700 miles. Since the day we purchased it, we had a problem with the gas overflowing on the 2007 dodge nitro when attempting to fill the tank. This is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and this vehicle could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and that chrysler knows about it. But i also read that they are doing nothing about this safety issue. I try to do my best to protect the environment by listening when filling the vehicle, and stopping the pump before it sounds like it is near the top. But i don't always catch it in time, and gas sprays out onto the car, myself and the ground. Not much i can do if ever involved in a roll over though.
Every time i fill the tank the pump at the gas station shuts off but i have fuel that burps back out. From what i understand about these cars is that there is a fuel shutoff valve on the gas tank to prevent fires/explosions in the event of a rollover accident that is defective. My vehicle is out of warranty and this causes me concern for my and others saftey. I would like chrysler to fix this problem as i don't believe i should have to pay for this out of pocket as they know that this is a common problem with these cars.
The dodge nitro can not be completely filled with fuel. I have tried multiple fueling stations in multiple states across the country and at every one of those the fuel over flows from the filler neck spilling fuel onto the ground and all over its operator. This is a safety concern and an environmental concern. I read an article that the nhtsa is probing the jeep wrangler about this same issue please include the dodge nitro in this probe. If you need one to test, you can use mine.
Everytime i fill up my 07 dodge nitro the gas over flows out of the filler neck. I have been to several different gas stations and every one i go to this still happens. I even tried filling slower and it still occurred. This is getting very frustrating because i usually end up full of gasoline when it comes out. It also could be a fire or explosion hazard it the right circumstances occur.
I just purchased a 2007 dodge nitro with 57334 kms. On my first refueling i was almost soaked in gasoline because of what i determined later as a factory faulty rollover valve in the gas tank. The hose clicks off as the tank is full but then the gasoline gushes out all over the vehicle & ground. The amount is considerable. This is a very dangerous fire issue. On my 2nd refueling was the same thing & each additional fill. Hasn't there been any recalls or forcible fix to get the manufacture to correct this issue?
Every time i fill up the vehicle the gas overflows onto the car and gas station ground. This is a huge safety hazard for a fire to start. I am worried that it will eat the paint off by the fill up as well.
When filling up gas tank, gas spits out.
Refueling spillage dodge nitro r/twhen fueling the vehicle, fuel overflows up thru the filler neck and onto the person who is refueling the suv, thus causing it to spill over the paint of the car with approximately 30 - 50oz of gas.unfortunately this occurs about 70% of the time the nitro is fueled up.this is very similar to a recall i had on my 2005 dodge durango.below are the issues noted by other dodge nitro owners on the nitro forums website.https://www.nitroforumz.com/threads/gas-overflow-fixed.700/page-6#post-159638https://www.nitroforumz.com/threads/x46-warranty-fuel-spit-back-during-refueling.38708/
Back driver side window has came off the track twice in about 12 months, replaced motor, still did it.every time i fill up with gas it spills out all over the car and ground. The windshield wipers only work on high some of the time. Driver side door handle broke off, very expensive to fix!
When i filled up my tank & pulled the nozzle out gas overflowed out of the tank. This happened twice at two different gas stations in two different states.
2007 dodge nitro - 83,000 miles - drivers side interior door handle broke unexpectedly during normal use. This made exiting the vehicle slow and difficult in the event of an emergency.you had to climb over to the passenger side or roll down the window unlock the door and operate the outside door handle.
While attempting to exit my 2007 dodge nitro, the driver's side handle broke off in my hand. I had to exit the vehicle through the passenger side door (into a pile of snow).

Inside drivers door handle broke. Had to roll window down to exit vehicle. Discovered the part was 100% plastic. Would have been a safety concern in an emergency evacuation. I repaired by adding a metal clasp to the plastic.

Defect notice rcdnn-08v525-3946.pdf reports a defect in 2007 dodge nitro parking brake system affecting vehicle safety. Therecall only involves vehicles with a manual transmission. It should also cover vehicles with automatic transmission, because the same defective parking brake part is used for both models, and the same defect is found on those with automatic transmissions- that is, the parking brake will not hold on those equipped with automatic transmissions. My 2007 nitro (w/automatic transmission) parking brake will not hold the car firmly while stopped on an incline, and the cause is exactly the same as for the manual- transmission-equipped nitros. The recall should include both models. My new york state inspection requires the parking brake to hold, for safety reasons, and dodge should be required to replace the defective part on my vehicle, as well as those owned by others, in order to keep them operating safely. A short online visit to dodgenitroforumz.com will confirm that there are many other nitro owners affected by this defect, yet dodge is only recalling the vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. The rest of have a useless parking brake.

Confused with different information regarding replacement / repair of the driveshaft or boot.which of the following is correct...replace the whole driveshaftreplace just the bootone mechanic says the shaft that needs to be replaced is from the transfer case to the front differentialis this a after market part or dealership part?concerned- recall driveshaft issues with 4x2 2007 nitro - why would 4x4 and 4x2 have driveshaft issues but recall on the 4x2 only.
This problem has happened to me 3 different times. And the last time was back in november 2014. While i am driving my vehicle stalls, my brakes lock up and my steering wheel looses power with the rest of my car except my radio. This is extremely scary because i am putting my life and others in danger. And chrysler says there is no problem because it doesn't show up on diagnostic.but when you pull up recalls and defects. The problem is right there. When this problem happens. I have to turn off my keys and restart the vehicle for it to work again. But you never know when this is going to happen there are no warning signs.

Failure of drive train and transmission at 94,000 miles.authorized dodge dealer shop is saying $13,000 to fix.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. While driving 65 mph the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate over 25 mph. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test that indicated the failure in the transmission speed sensor. The manufacturer filed report 20696273, and advised her to have the dealership diagnose the failure. The dealers diagnostic test indicated that the transmission speed sensor had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.

Windshield wipers went out unexpectedly, cv axel boot tore, transmission shifts hard
2007 dodge nitro safety issues customer states that after 3 months he noticed a hesitation in power an hard shifting**ccthe consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, and after several attempts to repair the problem which included replacement of the torque converter, the dealership informed the consumer there was no fix for the problem.the consumer believed the problem to be potentially dangerous because of the transmission shutter, loosing power in forward and reverse and hard shifting.
2007 dodge nitro 4x4 transmission when upshifting stalls/shudders from 25-35 mph, may lead to accident.
I have a 2007 dodge nitro. Since about 400 miles there has been a hesitation/bucking while trying to maintain a steady speed. It has been to the dealership 3 times, once a month since purchasedon nov 25, 2006. The problem has still not been corrected and i am now told that the hesitation/bucking at all speeds is "normal".
My 2007 dodge nitro had transmission issues, surging etc. The dealership replaced the torque converter which did not fix the problem. Now, stopped at a slight incline when i remove my foot from the brake it rolls backwards.dealership states that this is normal. Updated 09/18/07
Nitro vibrates between 38- 42 mph as though it wasin over drive. Not enough power at that speed in over drive. V-6 engine was supposed to get 18-24 mpg, we got 14 city ,18 highway. Very hard shifting.been to dealer 4 times so far with no correct results. Also, died at stop signs at times.
In february of 2007,my wife and i purchased a 2007 dodge nitro from ken garf west valley dodge. We fell in love with the car the moment we saw it, but it has become a nightmare. Within weeks of bringing it home we noticed a hesistation/surging problem with the motor whenever we traveled at a speed of 35 to 45 mph.we immediately contacted the maintenance department of the dealer and scheduled an appointment. We brought the nitro in; they did a computer flash update to fix the problem and sent us on our way. Again, we noticed the same problem shortly after returning home. So, we made another appointment and brought the vehicle back in. They did the same thin(computer flash update) and told us whatever residualsurging we felt in the vehicle was normal.fot the third time, we brought it home and the problem continued to worsen, we brought it back in to the dealer.but this time while i was there i test-drove another nitro of the exact kind to find that this problem was not normal. After doing this and telling the maintenance department that i had test-drove another nitro, they decide we neede to schedule another appointment to replace the torque converter. We scheduled an appointment for a month away to give them time to get the parts in. Once again we brought the nitro in, they kept it a few days to change out the torque converter.when we picked it up they said it was fixed.we were excited and relieved to finally get this behind us.soon after this, the surging was still taking place, but now at any speed we tried to hold steady.we called again and they told us it was normal, i reminded them that i had test-drove the exact car and that it was in fact, not normal. Yet again, the scheduled another appointmentfor usa to bring the car in.this time the head mechanic drove it with the computer hooked up to it. He stated that it was getting worse, but the computer was showing no errors and they could'nt fix it.
When shifting from 1-2gear at timesthere wa sk, when shifting throughall gearsthere wasa surge in power or lack of gas power. Tookvehicle to dealer, could not find, anything wrong orduplicate the problem.
I have had nothing but problems with the vehicle since i purchased it less than a year ago. The drivers side door handle broke. The only way to get out of the vehicle is to put down the window and open the handle from the outside handle. The driver side door panel is loose. The electrical panel with the power window and door locks occasionally comes right out of the door on the driver side. Roof rack has started to come off in the upper right hand corner near passenger side. Side panels of the front driver and passenger seats are loose and when you go to get out of the vehicle they catch on your clothing. They are unable to be repaired as they are made of plastic. The paneling under the steering wheel became loose and almost caused an accident as it got stuck on the brake pedal. I feel that this vehicle was made with poor quality and is unsafe with all the problems that keep happening.
The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. The contact stated that the electronic abs control module caused a delay in braking when coasting uphill. In addition, both rearview mirrors exhibited a blind spot. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 73,700.
Esp can not be shut down completely. The problem i am having is when i need to pull the boat off a slip, it activates when wheels spin or begins to slide applying the rear brakes aggressively. Also when i am in 4x4 and spinning in the mud it also does the same resulting in almost getting stuck or getting stuck, which makes me use 4x4 more often then not.i have contacted dealers and dodge about this issue but they say its integrated into the abs system and can do nothing about it. I have gone through several rear brakes and rotors due to this issue. All i ask is to change the modes on the deactivation from 70 percent to 0 percent.
The emergency brake ratchet assembly is broken.there are no replacement parts available in the united states and i was told there 77 customers waiting for the part ahead of me.this is one dodge dealer in the united states.the safety issue is that when parking on any type of grade ti transmission could slip and allow the vehicle to roll out of control.additionally with out these part the vehicle will not pass the pennsylvania annual safety inspection.
My 2007 dodge "nitro" brake pedal goes to less than one (1) inch of being hard on the floor.on presenting this problem to the local dodge dealership, their response was that they could show me a 2008 "nitro" with brake pedalthe same way. My constant concern is whether i will be able to stop the vehicle safely at all times.i certainly paid for brakes and feel i should have received brakes that are safe and dependable.i reported this condition when i first purchased the vehicle, and told this was normal.

The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4x4. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from under the vehicle. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard upon engaging and the vehicle failed to reduce speed until after the brake pedal was applied repeatedly with force. The contact inspected the outside of the vehicle when coming to a complete stop and noticed the front passenger side brake pad detached onto the road. The contact was able to drive the vehicle with caution. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the master cylinder and booster cylinder. In addition, both front rotors and both front ca pliers were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the problem and repaired the vehicle at their expense. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.updated 05/11/12*ljaccording to the invoice, brake fluid was leaking from the master cylinder and contaminated the brake booster. The right front brake inner pad fell out of the bracket and the piston hit the rotor and damaged it.the brake booster, master cylinder, both front brake calipers and rotors were replaced. The consumer provided repair invoices for the vehicle and a vehicle inspection report. The dealer stated fuel tank locking, when cold and moving a popping sound in wheel, heat coming up through steering column, and brake pedal feels low. Updated 08/07/07
During the last major snow storm i noticed what i thought was a brake failure after talking to a coworker he said that sometimes a lot of snow can mess with the brakes.his explanation seemed logical.on 4/17/10 i was driving down the road and started coasting towards traffic that just started moving.my approach speed was a little faster but by no means nothing that couldn't be stopped.when i went to push the brake pedal and the breaks didn't work.i felt like i was standing on them.i tried to make a correction maneuver to not injure anyone but i couldn't without going into oncoming traffic.and rearended someone.who in inturn rearended someone (4 cars total because everyone was moving).all of the brake recalls were done at the dealership at my 36,000 mile service.this was the same feeling i had during the snow incident but it didn't happen again until yesterday.i am glad that everyone is alright but this could have been much worse.

We purchased a 2007 dodge nitro slt 4x4 from berger family dealership in january of 2007. This vehicle was purchased brand new. In spring 2007 my wife noticed when going up a steep hill at a slow speed (approximately 10-15 mph), coasting to the top of the hill to a stop sign, when she applies her brake pedal, there is no braking. After a short time, the brakes will engage. This is after swerving into oncoming lane to avoid "rear-ending" stopped traffic in front of her.luckily all these times, no one was in this lane. This happened again in the same spot on way to work the following week. An appointment was made to have this checked at dealership. Nothing was found wrong, and dealership could not reproduce the problem. This issue sometimes can happen once or twice per week, or may happen once in 2-3 weeks. About 1 1/2 months later wife noticed when backing down our driveway which is steep, the same issue with braking. We made another appointment at dealership to have it checked. Still unable to reproduce the problem, or find anything wrong. In september 2007, a local newspaper advised of this problem. We contacted the nhtsa and chrysler, and they were aware of this problem. We were told by chrysler that a recall of reprogramming some braking module will be out by the end of the month. It is october 23, no recall yet. I looked on your website and chrysler has this labeled as a "g40" recall, to start in october. Today i telephoned the dealership, and they no nothing about this recall, in fact they looked in their chrysler computer system, and it is not even listed.i feel this is uncalled for as my wife is petrified to drive this vehicle. Someone at chrysler is "dropping the ball" and this needs to be remedied immediately before someone is killed by brakes that do not work, or intermittently fail.i am looking for your help to pressure chrysler into fixing this problem.we do not wish to become a statistic in your files because of this manufacturers error(s).
When driving, over the past year, the engine shuts off and the steering wheel locks. I have been in an area that i can stop and restart but the steering is locked up so i can't move the vehicle. I am very scared that it will do it while on the freeway and i will be hit at high speed on the freeway.

While attempting to exit my 2007 dodge nitro, the driver's side handle broke off in my hand. I had to exit the vehicle through the passenger side door (into a pile of snow).
Possible defect on a 2007 dodge nitro that is going to be resold at an auto auction on 12/10/2009.the issue has been reported to dodge/chrysler and to the dealership that sold us the car.this car is dangerous, was dangerous when it was sold to us.i will be more than happy to share the incident report on file with dodge hq and our attorney.
The inside drivers door handle broke. The new replacement handle broke. I have to roll the window down to open my door. If i ever get in an accident i will be trapped.
Went to get out of the car and the driver side door handle just popped.completely broken, had to turn the car back on roll down the window open the door roll the window back up then turn off the vehicle just to get out.i havehad to do this for the past week.i did nothing out of the normal and should not have to pay over $300 fora replacement door handle per dealership quote.

The contact stated that the keyfob will lock the vehicle however, has failed in every attempt to unlock the vehicle. Additionally, the internal lock/unlock buttons were also inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. Ah
I am original owner of this vehicle. It is garaged , well maintained, and serviced by dealership.there is no history of abuse, or auto accidents associated with this vehicle. Theinterior drivers door handle snapped off in my hands yesterday, while attempting to exit the parked vehicle.this is a considerable safety concern.only exit is throughan electric window, due to large console between seats.i have contacted dodge, and due to mileage (79k) and age (2007), they offer no assistance in fixing, so i will have to pay at dealership.i have seen enough complaints in various forums of this same issue, to warrant contacting you.this is not cosmetic, but of vital concern to driver safety.please consider further action with a view to recall , so that manufacturer will proceed rectify this dangerous flaw. Thank you for your consideration.
Drivers side rear door won’t lock or unlock with remote or by buttons in the car. It has to be done by hand.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. The contact stated, that the front and back dome light comes on randomly. The vehicle was parked when the incident occurs and when he is driving the vehicle. He has to detach the battery to turn off the lights. The alarm goes off without warning and the battery also has to be disconnected. The authorized dealer diagnosed the problem and stated that he needs a new tail gate switch. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 55000. Dyd

Interior door handles are breaking on dodge nitro's and is a very common issue.handles have been redesigned to prevent this problem but there has yet to be a recall.--> issue information: http://www.nitroforumz.com/showthread.php?t=28816.
I have had my 2007 dodge nitro for about 3 years now. Since i have had the vehicle, i have noticed that the door handles inside the vehicle are faulty and continually fail. They break and become inoperable, leaving who ever is sitting by the door trapped in the vehicle unless opened from the outside. My door handle broke for the first time and i thought it might have been my fault. Since then my door handles has broken several times and i have had to spend alot of money to replace them every time. I make less than the average blue collar worker and do not have the $175 every time the vehicle door handlebreaks. Therefore, at times such as now i have to leave the vehicle handles broken because i can't afford it. I currently have two door handles broken right now.i feel this is a huge safety concern because if a car accident were to happen, and the person sitting next to the door with the broken handle needed to exit the vehicle in a hurry, they would not be able to get out. Once the handle is broken, the door cannot be opened from the inside. So, lets say the vehicle was on fire. The person next to the door with the broken handle would be stuck unless someone opened the door from the outside or unless that person were to quickly roll the window down, reach out and open the door from the outside. I feel this is a huge safety concern and have voiced my opinion to dodge about the issue. I asked them to start a recall of the item and find a suitable replacement for it that will not break all the time. Dodge would not even hear my concerns and pointed me towards this website. I hope this issue is taken seriously, because i know i am not the only person who is having this issue. Many dodge nitro owners are having the same issue of you google it, you will see. I feel dodge might have a major law suit coming if this issue causes the death of a person.
Interior door handle broke(plastic) .poor handle design. Cannot open door from inside without unlocking door manually and putting down window and unlocking from outside handle. Safety issue in a accident. Reported to dodge to check if recall was in affect. Was told it was not.
Both interior door handles broke within a month of each other. Cannot get out of car on either side!!!!!
Inside drivers door handle broke. Had to roll window down to exit vehicle. Discovered the part was 100% plastic. Would have been a safety concern in an emergency evacuation. I repaired by adding a metal clasp to the plastic.
Upon trying to exit my parked vehicle, the door handle just broke right off when i pulled on it to open the door. I feel that this is a major safety issue because if the windows fail or if there was some type of a crash in which quick exit was important, i would be trapped in my vehicle. From what i have researched online in trying to figure out how to replace the handle, this is an extremely common problem with the nitros. I do not understand how this has not previously been recalled due to safety. Being trapped in a vehicle due to handle failure is a big problem.
I went to open the door to get out of the car to go to work.where the handle connects snapped in half.making it impossible to get out.
Pulled on driver's side door handle and it snapped off.have to roll down window and open from the outside to get out of the vehicle.not a very safe option.i have read many others are having this same problem, perhaps a recall should be put out.it is a pricey fix at the dealer.my car is in excellent condition and i take good care of it.not happy about spending upwards of $250.00 to have a plastic door handle fixed.i purchased this vehicle new in 2007.
I went to exit my vehicle and the door handle snapped. I was not using excessive force, or any extra pressure on the handle.
2007 dodge nitro - 83,000 miles - drivers side interior door handle broke unexpectedly during normal use. This made exiting the vehicle slow and difficult in the event of an emergency.you had to climb over to the passenger side or roll down the window unlock the door and operate the outside door handle.

When i came back from picking up lunch today, i parked my car and was unable to get out. The handle on my driver side door simply stopped working. After looking up some information online, i found that this car has a history of the door handles breaking. It's bad enough that if i were in an accident today i would have to climb out of another door (and of course if i was injured this could be very difficult), but if, by some coincidence, another door handle broke, i could potentially end up trapped in my car.
Interior door handle on the drivers door broke leaving the driver unable to exit the vehicle.the drive was able to exit by use of the exterior handle on the same door but that would not have been the case if the window was not functional.
The driver's side door handle snapped apart, breaking the plastic handle close to the inside of the door where in connects.
The roof railings on my 2007 dodge nitro apparently lifted, when i took my car to the car wash, the long strings got caught up under it and the front part of the roof rail broke off.
While unloading groceries from the rear cargo area of my 2007 dodge nitro, the rear tail-gate (aka "liftgate") , failed to stay in the up/open position and came down at such a rapid speed that the heavy liftgate could have caused serious if not fatal injuries to any small child or adult in the area of the liftgate via trauma sustained to the head, neck, back, or extremities. The vehicle was parked in our garage on level concrete, with no wind/weather involved when this malfunction with the liftgate lifters (2) occurred. The liftgate lifters (2) have not held up the rear liftgate since this incident occurred. I called the dealership for replacement of both lifters. I called the manufacturer of the lifters and they have not returned my phone call. The manufacturer of the lifters is "stabilus, gastonia, n.c. 28052. Dodge nitro r/t package (sport suspension and 20 inch tire/rim).poor highway handling on bumps at bridge and road joint if speeds are greater than 60mph; you will notice loss of grip and may result in roll-over or crash.handling is worst when its slippery or wet conditions.i slow down on all bridges in georgia and ohio.i notice this issue when drive in 2008-2009 putting 7500 mi per year.
Lower track barrearis a box tube with welded eyelet at each end . They rust and break and can fall down to road surface which could case accidents

Please help

Failure of tire pressure monitors on dodge nitro. The valve stems on my nitro are fatigued and are breaking apart. I have had two replaced and fear one of the original stems remaining will possibly blow while traveling at a high speed causing a crash.
Tire pressure meter gives a false alarm intermittently during interstate highway driving.alarm chimes and says, "check tpm system" and indicates the right rear tire has no tire pressure.after awhile the system returns to normal and then alarms again.this can happen anywhere from within a half hour to over two hours between alarms.the problem has been attempted to be fixed 5 times.all tpm parts, sensors etc have been replaced.dealer now says it could be cell phone causing problem.
Stopped for gas, after filling up vehicle wouldn't start. No lights, no sound of any kind nothing would happen.the vehicle was completely dead. Had vehicle towed to dodge dealer where it was bought they said they replaced the starter but i'm sure it was the total power interface module.
Interior door handle drivers side broke, pressure used to open door not much, only what is needed to trip the latch and open.had to lower window and use outside door handle to get out, removed panel from front and back doors, moved the rear interior door handle to the front for a quick temporary fix, waiting for that to break also.the complaint is a safety issue, that does not seem to be addressed or fixed by dodge... But you can buy a $40+ handle from them, the same kind that has the chance to break again.you can see this byjust looking on dodges forums for this exact complaint - with no resolve
Failure of drive train and transmission at 94,000 miles.authorized dodge dealer shop is saying $13,000 to fix.
Come outside keys in hand and my truck is running check engine light is on all displays are lit up and no there is not an auto start on my vehicle this has happened 6 times and was not diagnosed until recently that the tipm module is the problem until recently because when the check engine light goes off the codes do not appear and was told this is a safety issue cause it can turn off my lights while driving lock me in my car mess with my horn wipers steering cause this is the brain to my truck but due to me being out of warranty now i am exsprcted to pay for out of pocket even though it started under warranty.

- vehicle delay when pulling out or backing up, then with out notice surge.- driving up large hill, coming up on tractor and trailer ahead, doing 45 mph, left off gas slightly to adjust speed went to resume speed there was no response, no power, lights did not come on dash and engine had not cut out.two to three seconds later, engine/vehicle regained power.-pulling out of drive way, on a incline and accelerating, then left off gas to level speed before a bend.vehicle throttle did not respond and continued at speed.applied brakes, " brakes did not respond".drove vehicle into someone's yard, and shut engine down.-driving a congested street in a town, no more than 25 mph, between stop signs.vehicle continued at speed when left off gas, brakes did work.left ample room to stop, based on previous experience.

The driver side door handle broke off at 25,000 miles and the drivers side controls for the windows and locks operates at about 25% functionality.
Took car in for repairs in regards to the windshield wiper recall in january 2013.trusting that bergeron dodge took care of the recalled issue; i never expected my windshield wipers to stop working all together.on the morning of friday, may 3, during my commute to work, my windshield wipers stopped working on all pause settings.since it was raining profusely that morning, the higher setting was okay to use.as of today, i cannot drive the nitro because the wipers have stopped working all together and is now a hazard to drive during the rain.not only do i feel the problem was not repaired in january, but the dealership wants to charge me $50 to look at the wipers.i am utterly and totally disgusted, for the simple fact i had to pay $150 at the time of the recall for bergeron dodge to inform me on the price to fix the brakes, replace driver side window regulator (broke while under warranty/told by dealership part was not covered under warranty), and repair heat shield that just fell off in january 2013; now i have to pay more money for them to tell me they never repaired a part that was suppose to be repaired.

Back driver side window has came off the track twice in about 12 months, replaced motor, still did it.every time i fill up with gas it spills out all over the car and ground. The windshield wipers only work on high some of the time. Driver side door handle broke off, very expensive to fix!

Had to make a bank deposit on/around the evening of 08/15/12.when i left my home and turned on the air conditioner, i noticed that the air was blowing cool, but not cold (although the temperature was set at the coldest setting).at first i did not put much thought into it because it was a hot and muggy evening.two, the bank is right down the street from my house and figured the car had no time to cool down before reaching the bank.not until the following day was it apparent that the air conditioner was no longer working and only blowing warm/hot air.my husband is a hvac technician and was able to refill the freon for the air condition, but when filling the freon he noticed the degree was not getting cooler.when the air conditioner was turned on; all the freon leaked out into the nitro.it was so bad, i had to pull over and allow the car to air out because the fumes were choking us.for a car that is less than 10 years old, i find this highly unacceptable that the air conditioning system has such a major leak as this one.

Went on a trip about 300 miles away from home. When we got there the next day my rear passenger tire was low. Every day sense then i have had to put air in my tire. Took it to get it looked at and my rim had cracked on the inside they said i must have it a pot hole on the trip. I how ever was the only one driving the nitro the whole time and nothing was ever hit. This isn't the first time i have had problems with theses rims every winter i have to get them cleaned b/c they erode and cause leakage.
