The contact owned a 2003 dodge neon. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact crashed into a guardrail. Neither of the front air bags deployed. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an impound yard. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

I had a collision in my vehicle the front end was smashed in.(the vehicle was considered totaled by the insurance company.)the airbags (passenger and driver) did not deploy causing injury to me and my passenger.i was traveling approx.25 or 30 mph.according to police on the scene the airbags should have deployed.

The driver's side airbag deployed aggressively, with possible metallic shrapnel or fragment intrusion into the driver's body, because the driver sustained a complete transection of the right main bronchus - either from metal debris or from an over-aggressive inflation that caused severe blunt trauma to the chest.

2003 dodge neon hit deer at 65 mph, deer hit front left fender before bouncing off windshield.glass turned into tiny shards of razor sharp glass (i though safety glass was supposed to turn into little cubes and not razors).air bags did not deploy.this is more of a question than a complaint. *nlm

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. The driver was driving at an unknown speed when a vehicle crashed into the side of his vehicle at a high rate of speed. None of the air bags deployed. The police arrived and advised that all of the air bags should have deployed based on the impact. The police had to cut the driver from the vehicle. The driver was killed upon impact. The vehicle was being investigated by the state's traffic investigation department. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileages were unknown.

We were hit from the side and tore up the whole front end. The air bags did not deploy

While traveling 45 mph consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle.upon impact, neither of the air bags deployed.consumer spoke to the manufacturer, but the only response he received was a letter denyingthe claim that collision was offset.

I was in a small collision at the speed of 10 mph or less. I rear ended a ford f150 truck because my brakes skided on the road, my 2003 neon fishtailed, and i hit the bumper of the truck. My right headlight was smashed, and my radiator was also broken. After 3 minutes my engine caught on fire, and my entire car was engulfed in fire within 5 minutes after the collision. My airbag on both driver and passenger side did not go off, i didn't hit the truck at a highspeed, yet my car went up in flames. Everything in the car was melted, and i think this car is very unsafe. Had i hit a truck or been hit by another large or small car, i hate to wonder what would of happened then. Would i of made it out in time before it caught on fire, or would it blow up on impact?! neons are not safe, and i think this car will catch on fire at any speed. I have pictures of the car that shows the damage from the collision, and you wouldn't ever think the small damage could catch this car on fire.

While driving the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a side rail.neither frontal air bag deployed.the vehicle was towed to a auto body shop for inspection.the cause has not been determined.also, 2 months after the consumer purhcased the vehicle, the fuel pump was replaced.there is also an incident that the vehicle doesn't start.*la

While driving at 35 mph vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy.driver sustained chest injuries due to impact. As a result, vehicle was totaled. Manufacturer and insurance company notified, but not willing to do anything.consumer contacted chrysler and the talro insurance company, neither wanted to take responsibility for the airbag not deploying neither did they acknowledge the incident. The apollo casualty company told her to call chrysler back. Consumer wants to sue but lawyer said that there can't be anything done because nobody went to the hospital.*sb

I rearended an suv during a rainstorm.the entire front of my car, and side panels were totaled.my airbags did not deploy.my car was a 2003 dodge neon.the force of the impact and damage to the exterior front of my car actually left minor interior damage under the steering wheel-panel pieces became detached.i received multiple bruises, minor cuts, and major headache for days afterwards due to the force of hitting the steering wheel then my seatbelt jerking me into my seat.

While at a stand still vehicle was involved in a head on collision. The impact was so great that the vehicle did a complete 36. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy. Driver sustained shoulder injuries, and had to go through therapy.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision on a dry road condition at 30 mph. Consumer's vehicle broad side another vehicle, and neither frontal air bag deployed.passengersustainedknee injuries, and was transported to the local hospital. Also, driver sustained injuries, and was transported to the local hospital by the local police.dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time.

Consumer's vehiclewasinvolved in a front end collision, and air bags did not deploy.driverwas slightly injured, her neck and back was sore.

The consumer was involved in a frontal collision at 45 mph and theair bags did not deploy. The driver was using the seat belt at that time. No injuries to report. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified.

Vehicle was involved in an accident where another vehicle turned left in front ofmy sister (who was driving my car) and she was going 40 mph.my vehicle was hit almost head on. And the driver side front fender.neither air bag deployed.my sister has multiple head, neck and back injuries.

Entire electrical system failure while car was in operation + premature activation of airbag.driver was forced to claw the airbag out of his way in order to maintain control of the vehicle, and steer it off the highway.there was no known tampering with the electrical system prior to this; car was used, but had only body work done to our knowledge. Heat damage to electrical system was so extensive that car was considered a total loss. Driver suffered some facial and neck injury--possibly others.

While driving 30 mph consumer's vehicle collided with the vehicle in front.upon impact, both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Driver to sustained minor injuries. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon.while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact was involved in a severe crash and the vehicle was destroyed.the driver side seat belt did not properly secure her and she struck the steering column.none of the air bags deployed.prior to the crash, the contact never saw any air bag warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel.she notified the manufacturer and is waiting for a response.the vin, engine size, and powertrain were unknown.the failure and current mileages were 29,000.

While driving 25 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy.driver sustainedhead/knee/chest injuries, and shattered glass under the skin.

I was getting ready to drive to work. I turned on my headlights to find that they were not functioning. Later i removed the multi-function switch and located a burned electrical connector. The current repair will be to replace the multi-switch and burned connector.

Odor of burning plastic, caused by overheated wiring (pin 16) on turn signal and light control. Light would only function on low beam ; while high beam indicator was lit . Fog lamps have been lit ,when switch is headlamp on position, for three years. They could not be turned off unless you used left turn signal. When headlamp malfunctioned i bought replacement switch. During installation, found wiring harness terminal was difficult to remove, as it was malformed and brittle due to excess heat. I took pictures to document wire position; there is no pin 15 or 10 : also no wire to terminal positions 15,10, and 12. There is a pin 12 on the switch.

Car was 5 months old when it started to jerk & basically turn off intermittantly while i was driving at different speeds, the radio would turn off completely & the seatbelt lights on the dash would light up, the car would turn back on and then revv as though being down-shifted and then go back to normal. The problem proceeded to get worse to the point where the car stalled in traffic & i was broke down in the center divider. Dodge dealership has failed to find a solution after three visits & now my car is hooked up to a co-pilot. This problem remains unfixed & even more dangerous to drive. Has stalled three times on the freeway!

Last week the car stared blowing the dashboard light fuse. I've replaced it 4 times, and they all blew with in a few minutes.the dealer said they spent 2 hours trying to find the problem. I paid the$100.00 diagnostic fee and three blocks from the dealer, the fuse blew again. I took back to them and will pay another $100.00 fee tomorrow.the factory warranty ran out 2600 miles ago, and i purchased chrysler's best maximum car upgrade service contract so i would not have to deal with this kind of stuff, but it is not covered.now i have a car i can't safely drive at night because i can't see the dashboard.

Smoke started coming out of the vents & steering column. Took it to the dealer & they said it was spilled anti freeze from when they changed the oil. Car was ok for a little while. Now it's smoking again the front defroster doesn't work the fog lights are gone & recently my highlights went too. I took it to the shop they shown me the burnt wires in steeling column & said the heating coil is damaged making the smell & fogs the window from the fumes. Next to go will be the turning signals & wipers if not fixed.

Wiring melted in steering column and head lights would not work. Had to have dealer repair wiring, replace headlight switch.

2003 dodge neon.problem, no headlights.smoke and a burning smell from the steering column.once it happened the headlights went out and will not come back on.the part is not available through auto parts stores or the dealer.the dealer told me the parts were out of stock and could take weeks to get in.he did a search of dealers around the county and no one had the part (headlight switch) he told me they get a lot of complaints about this issue.i had to buy a used one from a wrecked car at a junkyard to be able to use my car at night. I researched on the internet and tons of people seem to have the same complaint. The connections are melted in the steering column.

I have had nothing but problems with my 2003 dodge neon. The electrical problems have ranged from losing power completely while driving to dimming dashboard lights to corroded wires going into the power control module and fuses shorting out. This latest incident involves the seatbelt and brake lights flashing while the rest of the dashboard lights went dim. I'm tired of spending money on this car - but i can't sell it in good conscience to someone else. Dodge should be forced to recall these vehicles for new electrical wiring harnesses and power control modules as corrosion of wires and subsequent shorts in wiring appear to be common place, costing thousands of dollars to consumers and potential fatal accidents.

My headlights and foglights would periodically shut off or not come on. Then only the brights would work and while driving would shut off altogether. Finally the headlights and foglights have stopped working. The marker lights and turn signals still work, but i have no illumination ahead of me. It required a switch and connector change. So far there are numerous other neons that have had this happen to them and the dealer refuses to help us in any way, shape, or form. The old parts are still available for examination and the oem bulbs are still around as well.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon.the contact noticed smoke coming from the steering column after the vehicle was turned off.as of september 27, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the contact's son inspected the vehicle and stated that the media switch caused the failure.the current and failure mileages were 91,153.

While driving cross country home from visiting family for christmas, headlights, fog lights all quit while on the freeway. Luckily the moon was out full and a big truck was behind me with bright enough lights. I figured out i could have lights by holding the "flash" of the brights. I ended up jumping the fuse panel to get power to the headlights. Went to the dealership, told me problem happens a lot. But nothing they could do about it. Had to buy a new multi switch for $95. J

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon.the contact stated that smoke started to emit from the engine comparment while the battery was being charged and the vehicle overheated.the contact turned the vehicle off and after restarting the vehicle the temperature, speedometer, fuel and rpm warning lights illuminated.the vehicle failed to start.the manufacturer was not contacted.the vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure and current mileage was 163,000.

I bought myself a 2003 dodge neon srt-4 last year. About 6 months ago smoke and melting plastic smell started coming out of steering column. The headlights and fog lights shut off on me one night coming home from store. (not good) the next day found that harness was melted at connector to the mfs to the headlights. I replaced the switch but fuses blow if fog lights come on or high beams. Plus it just started smoking again!

The fog light switch stopped working, therefore the fog lights were always on.after stopping at a friends house and the lights worked fine, the headlights and fog lights would not turn on, and the bright lights could only be turned on by pulling and holding the arm back.there was an odd smell, but i thought a fuse must have blown.changing the fuse did not allow the lights to work.i drove the car home behind our other vehicle, and was stopped by the police with no headlights.i explained the situation and they gave me a warning to have the lights fixed.so i made an appointment the next day to have the lights checked.they found the multi function switch was melted and the wiring harness had to be replaced.i am concerned that this could have happened to my wife with children in the car.no headlights driving at night.

Started vehicle during rainy, foggy, 40 degree weather. Headlamp indicator did not come on within gauge cluster. Upon checking outside the car, only parking lights were functioning despite headlights switch being in the "on" position. Burning smell occurred within 15 minutes of driving andmultifunction harness connector is melted.

I own a 2003 dodge neon that just shuts off while driving on a few occasions. I have read numerous blogs and such of others having the same problems. Without warning the car shuts down with a complete loss of power. Nothing electrical will work. I have had the car checked out and no problems can be found, no codes on the computer. When it does shut down it will not restart until i move the wires at the battery. Upon inspecting the battery wires they show no signs of wear, corrosion, being loose or anything of that sort. Upon testing the wires for a short found none to exist. The mechanics and dealerships claim there is no problem. Diagnostic computers find no problems. On three occasion thus far we have been in near accident situations, driving along and the car shuts down, and comes to an unexpected quick stop and with a loss of all power that may result in a fatal accident in the future. Cars driving behind me have no warning that i'm coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road sometimes unable to pull off the road to a safe area to come to a stop. As mentioned it seems to be a common problem with this car not only of this year but others as well. There should be a recall of some sort before someone dies if that already has not happened.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. The contact stated that smoke was emitted from the steering wheel and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the main ground wiring to the engine was melted and caused the vehicle to stall. In addition, the wiring harness and multi-function switch was also melted.the vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 125,000.

Well i was driving and i had my kid in car 10-16-15 thank god i a had arrived home on time who knows what would happen if i kept driving i started to see smoke coming of dash i was on street coming from janesville wi it's like 35 min away i was driving on high way but like i said it started happeningwhile approaching housei really don't know how to see inside but this has me shocked due to video i have seen catching on fire why isn't nothing being done no recall nothing someone can die from thisi looked up problem and it's a common thing thats happening this is a serious problem and disappointed with dodgei need something done about this please help i took a picture of when i parked it.

Hi, i have a dodge neon 03, and it cuts off while i am driving. There are no warning signs that is about to happen, everything in the car shuts off and the car comes to an instant stop on the road. I took it to the dealership on two occasions within the last three months for this issue. They thought that they knew what it was the first time and they just switched out a car part, but they didn't fix the problem because two months later my car stoped again on july 4th. I took it back to the shop, they kept it for two days to run test and they gave me my car back and said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. About a month goes by and my car comes to a sudden stop on a highway this time, on august 3rd. There has not been any accidents at this point due to this problem, but you can see how one could easily occur and how it could possibly be fatal for the driver and others. I did some reasearch and discovered online that there were several others that were having the same problem with their dodge neons, and it's not just the 03's but also the 96-98, and 2000's. I just thought that it was a major safety issue and that someone should investigate this problem. Thanks

First the fog lights would turn on and off randomly when the headlights were on.upon inspection of the multi-function switch, i noticed a portion of the plug had melted from extreme heat. Most likely due to a poor design in the wiring, the circuits or the multi-function switch. Had this been left unnoticed it could easily result in extensive damages, fire or personal harm.

Headlights, fog lights stopped operating, high beams will not stay on, must hold down the lever, multi-function switch connector melted. Car is inoperative until a fix is made. I have a 2003 dodge neon sxt. This seems to be a common defect with my year/make/model of car. Please institute a recall for this problem. To fix the defective part runs approximately $1,000 - $3,000 to fix by dealer. Please issue recall.

Consumer stated that while she was on her way to the doctor's office she experienced some funny things with vehicle. It seemed as though one of the wheels locked, and the vehicle jerked. Also, it smelled like burning rubber.consumer stated that laterit unlocked by itself and powered itself up, and then took off. Nothing else happened again.she was atdoctor's office where she parked for 2 hours.afterward she got back into vehicle to return home, and the vehicle did the same identical thing after about20 miles. All of thishappened afterputting coolant in the vehicle. Consumer insisted thatshe needed help because she could have been killed. Vehicle stalled while driving.

Started to see smoke and then the headlights stopped working properly. After disassembling the wiring connector from the headlight switch, i discovered the connector had overheated to the point it was charred and crumbling to pieces. This is not a misuse by operator, but a safety failure of the electrical system. This could have resulted in a fire as the fuse protecting this circuit did not fail when the circuit obviously overheated and melted and charred the plastic connector.

My neon will sporatically lose all power then regains power within a few seconds. It has been in for service several times for the same problem. I am the mother of 5 yr old twins and their safety should be of the utmost concern to the dadge company.

My 2003 dodge neon srt-4 was making a funny smell at night then my lights went out and they would only work with my bright switch pulled back. I pulled apart and saw that my switch to my multifunction switch was burnt. I went to dodge and they told me it was not covered under warranty. So i bought a new multifunction switch and plug. I do have all the old parts.

December 2008, headlights working fine during trip, stopped for gas, and headlights would not come back on.used high beams for about 20 minutes and then switched to low beams were then working.happened at least once a month for the next year.early march, noticed a burning smell, thought it was outside, lights were working fine.while driving alone at night april 2009, tried to use high beams, but multifunction switch would not stay in place, had to hold the switch back for high beams to work.my hands became very warm sitting on the steering wheel, felt closer to the steering column and was incredibly hot.there was nowhere to stop, had to keep driving another hour or so.stopped for 5 minutes and shut off vehicle, when vehicle turned back on, headlights wouldn't work.had to drive with only parking lights at 2am, very unsafe!ever since, headlights no longer work.this has clearly been an issue, and it very easy to find information and other complaints about this same problem.this could have clearly become an even worse problem.tried to replace the multifunction switch, but the plug was melted in place.parts were burned black and brown and incredibly brittle from the intense heat that emanated from the wiring.this final problem happened at about 90,000 miles.i am still currently waiting to find the large sum of money to get this fixed. I am currently not able to drive at night , since i do not have proper lighting.afraid to even use parking lights, as this supplies electrical juice to the switch and could possibly cause a fire, as i have read about other owner's problems.

At 60,000 miles my 2003 dodge neon r/t started smoking from the steering column. At the time i thought it was dust caught by the sunlight and since nothing appeared to be wrong with my car, i forgot about it - one week later- i started by car and my headlights wouldn't work, concerned and remembering the "dust in the sunlight the week before, i called the dodge dealership in the area and dropped off my car a little while later. Turns out the wiring harness on the steering column had overheated and melted together ( there was also a problem with the gas tank pressure but i could never get them to tell exactly what the problem was) luckily the harness was not completely destroyed so the wires could just be replaced. I asked them what caused the problem and if they were just replacing wires, well, wouldn't it happen again? once again all i got were vague non commitale answers, a 1,200 dollar bill, plus, i was refused a courtesy vehicle - yeah i had to foot the bill fr driving a rental car for a week. I research this problem and found that the 1996 neon had been recalled for this same problem but the cause of the problem was never fixed, also, the pt cruiser has the same defect. The dealership told me that it was not possible and basically what went wrong was my fault, some how. Again very vague and non-committal. I found out that unless a problem is a safety issue, meaning i guess that a few people have to die, a recall will not be issued.

Sometime last year i was having trouble with my fog lights. I would turn the switch to turn them on, but they would not turn on. I went to the dealer several times to get them fixed. I don't remember what the problem was, but they temporarily fixed them each time. Then about 1 week ago, i was driving my car and i noticed a funny smell and white smoke coming out of my steering column. So i pulled over and turned the car off. Every time you turned it back on, the steering column got very hot and white smoke would come out of it. I then proceeded to take it to my dealer. There was some melt down inside of my steering column, which came from the multi-function switch. My car insurance and my warranty would not cover the damage, which totaled $630.

I own a 2003 dodge neon srt4there was a fire/smoking coming from my dash/steering wheel column.the problem is from a bad multi function switch in the 2nd generation dodge neons.this switch is related to the headlights, so potentially this can be deadly.for example you headlights cut off on the highway, car shutting down, fire inside the cabin of the car. I still need this fix, i work nearly 9 hour days with little money to fix these malfunctioning electrical problems. Please tell dodge to call a recall this.

The problems first started when the fog lights on my 2003 dodge neon had started to come on even when the switch was off. They would do this any time i turned the wheel, or went over a bump. This had been going on for almost 6 months. Then about a week ago, my lights would not turn off. The lever wouldn't click when i hit it to turn them off. They continued to stay on, and then would turn off when they wanted to. After about a day i was driving home at night, and all of a sudden my lights turned off, and would not go back on. If there were no street lights, i could have gotten into a severe accident.

This makes 3rd transmission that has been put in this 2003 dodge neon xst . I have put $10.000.00 in transmission replacements ! these are lemons!! i will never buy another dodge!!

Headlight switch and associated wiring harness shorted and melted resulting in loss of all interior and exterior lighting.

Suddenly had no lights on vehicle exterior, headlights most notably. Mechanic replaced multifunction switch on steering column but showed me the plug for this multifunction switch has obviously been heating up because it has melted in several places. By the way i cant find a replacement plug yet.

Headlights and fog lights not working.multifunction switch shorting out, the 20 plug wiring harness that connects to the lights portion of the switch gets literally burnt and melts.

I have been having problem with my car for about 6 months.one of the problems were my high beams will operate but my low beams wouldn't.now my high beams will operate but i am unable to switch to my low beams.the second problem is with my battery dying several times which resulted in getting a jump from another car.i end up having a battery and alternator replaced on my car last year between nov/dec 2010.just recently i noticed smoke coming from my steering column located near the steering wheel and the smell of something burning.this happen while i was driving.my car didn't start monday 3-28-11 morning so i had it towed to the dealership where i bought the car from.the mechanic had to replace the battery.they ran a diagnostic on the car but no readings regarding electrical problems.the important question pertains to what is draining the battery.

While driving 60 mph on i-35 in san antonio, texas in january, 2004, my 2003 neon r/t (with approximately 10,865 miles) experienced a complete loss of power.luckily the momentum was great enough to allow me to pull off to the side of the highway.i checked the vehicle (cable connections and fuses) and could find nothing wrong.after 10 minutes the car started and ran fine.i took it to gunn dodge in san antonio in february, and they said a cell in the battery checked bad and that was what caused the total loss of power.they replaced the battery.while driving from san antonio, texas to knoxville, tennessee on april 18, 2005, the car again experienced a total loss of power while i was driving at approximately 60 mph, outside of dallas, texas.i was again able to pull off to the side of the highway, and i detected a slight scent of electrical components overheating..again all cables and fuses appeared to be ok, but car would not start.as i was talking with chrysler roadside assistance on my cell phone, my wife checked the positive battery cable connection, i attempted to start the car, and it started (approximately 20 minutes after the total loss of power).i was able to complete the trip to knoxville, tennessee without incident.i took my car to rice chrysler-dodge in knoxville on april 19, 2005 (car had 24001 miles).after several hours, the service advisor informed me all cables, wires and fuses checked out fine, as did all ground connections.he also told me they had called chrysler to speak with an engineer about the problem, and the engineer could think of no reason why my car had experienced a total loss of power while driving at highway speeds, nor had he any knowledge of this happening to anyone else.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. The contact stated that the instrumental panel lights, brake lights, tail lights and directional lights failed while driving. In addition, a burning odor was emitted from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The contact replaced the multi-functional switch and multi-functional switch wiring harness.the vehicle was repaired at a cost of $130. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure and current mileage was 160,000. ... Updated 02/28/13 updated 03/11/13

My wire harness/ multifunction switch has melted causing my headlight and fog lights not to work.

I have a dodge neon 2003. January 2004 i took my car in for routine service (oil change/plugs. About a week later a spark plug shot out of cylinder one. I call the service department and took it by the dealship (darcars) they put the spark plug back inbut my car hasn't run properly yet.they refuse to take responsibility for the problem because it's takes a thousand dollar or more to fix. I've had dianogstics done and now the car is be repaired at lee's auto shop with problemshard for mr. Lee to fix (electronic problem in the no. 4 cylinder; it won't open and close properly. Lee's done all he could do so far (the car now is still in his shop. It's been about a week).furthermore i was told afterward that a new car dosn't need a tune up for two years.i think the service guy should have informed me of that instead he took my money with no refund. The exact day i don't have right now but i could get it i have all my problem paper work.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving the transmission speed sensor shorted and caused the computer to short out. The engine and transmission completely locked and the vehicle stalled. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the road, where it was then towed to a certified dealership. The transmission and engine were replaced as a result of the damages caused by the sensor.

When i use my headlights for 15-20 minutes, i begin to smell a burnt plastic smell and notice the left side of the steering wheel gets very warm. After 20-30 minutes of headlight usethe low beams just go dead, it "automatically" switches to high beams immediately. If i try to turn it back down to low beams, everything goes dark (*very* dangerous at night!). Then i am forced to use high beams and blind everyone else for the rest of my trip, or i have to pull over and let the apparent cause (the multifunction switch) cool off for an eternity before resuming my trip. I'm highly uncomfortable knowing that my car has plastic behind the steering wheel on the verge of erupting into flames when i use my headlights. I also consider it extremely hazardous, not only for the fire risk, but also the low beams dying suddenly.

2003 dodge neon srt4. Mfs in steering column burnt to crisp. No modifications to electrical system or lights on car have been made. Caused 2000 dollars worth of damage and research shows similar problem across neon models.

I have a 2003 dodge neon that i bought brand new with one mile on it when i took it off the lot. Since that dreadfull day i have had problems with the vehicle starting around 10k miles.first some electrical componets in the sound system went out.from there i have had to have the rotors replacedbecause nearly every 5k miles starting around 10,500 miles.the car has a hard time starting when the temperatures get too close to 20 degrees f, when you get to zero forget it.i have had the battery tested my dealer charged me $30.00 some odd dollars to do that and said it is just me.when it gets too hot like around 85 degrees or so it runs like it is boging down.the fule injection sensors have gone out twice 200 miles appart and at this time the vehicle has nearly 33k miles on it.i have it serviced every 3k miles and have changed the air filter and spark plugs as directed.i also have all of my service receipts from the trips to the dealr i reguards to the electrical, break and injection work i have had done.the vehicle has also been taken to three diferent dodge dealers hoping one would find something the others keept overlooking.more info can and will be provided if requested.

Dt:the vehicle would shut down completely while in motion and the steering would lock.also, the hazard lights would not come on.this was the third time thisproblem occurred in a ten month span.the first time this happened was on november 15, 2004, the second was march 23, 2005, and september 25, 2005.the consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer twice, and they replaced the battery twice.there was no forewarning, noise and or warning lights.(11/21/05)*sc

Dt: the contact stated the engine stalled and died at highway speeds.when this occurred there wastotal loss of power.the vehicle would not restart.the vehicle had to be towed to a dealer.the dealerreplaced the battery, alternator, and the power train control module.the dealer has been unable to accurately diagnose the problem.no further repairs have been made at this time.

Dt:the contact stated the horn was not working.the horn was replaced on august 3, 2004 and the problem recurred.on september 10, 2004 . She started having problems with the vehicle not starting when cranked.she stated after several attempts it would start.the vehicle was again taken to the dealership , and they replaced the fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator, and the flashed pcm.the vehicle was not starting again; this began onoctober 19, 2005.the vehicle will have to be towed this time.

Problems with starting up vehicle.*mrthe vehicle was taken tot he dealer on several occasions about the starting problem.the vehicle also experienced erratic idling.the dealer found a large vacuum leak which caused the high idle.

Spark plug wires on a new dodge neon 2.4 become burnt (cracked, brittle and ashy white) from its turbo heat of this over time.a better heat range wires/redesign would correct this problem. Many consumers have had problems with this defect and could cause a fire in the engine compartment.*la

I have had to replace the starter twice since i bought this car a year ago with only 48,000 miles on it.also w/in 30 days of purchase i had to have major work done on the transmission.i should of read this site before purchasing the car.

Feb 18,2005 while driving my car all of a sudden the headlights failed the car was taken to my mechanic and it was determined that the headlight switch was faulty and the wiring harness and connector had melted.

2003 dodge neon srt-4 multifunction switch failure. The wiring connector to the switch is melted. Low beam headlights and fog lights will not turn on. Can provide pictures.

(1)headlights and driving lights ( that was put on by dodge) went out.(2) wire harness and turn signal/ headlight switch at steering wheel melted together.!!!!! never blowing a fuse !!!!! found out the driving lights were staying on at highbeam. When they were supposed to go out. (3) replacing theswitch and had the end of the wire harness replaced. Old part is not available (forgot to get from mechanic).

My 2003 dodge neon, purchased from carmaxnear lax in inglewood, ca. It now has under 24000 miles, and has stalled in traffic 7 times in the past 1500 miles, twice failing to re-start in traffic, and once again in a parking garage.the 1st time was about 5 months ago in west los angeles.the vehicle re-started only after a jump from aaa, and stalled 2 more times as i drove to the carmax location for service.carmax failed to find anything wrong to explain the stall, & found only a loose battery terminal bolt, which they said caused the stalling.they tightened the bolt and returned the car to me. Less than 5 weeks later, the car stalled 3 times again around town, restarted after 20 minutes, and finally stalledin santa monica, when the entire electrical system died, no brake lights or safety hazard lights at all, and the car would not restart.i had chrysler towing take the car to buerge chrysler in west la, and they could not duplicate the problem, & declared that the battery was fine.they said a service bulletin suggested "flashing the power control module", which they did.the car was returned to service.less than 6 weeks later, the car stalled on the road twice again, and once morein an underground parking garage, where it would not restart: again, no power at all, no brake lights or hazard lights.the car was again towed to buerge, and 2 days later they claimed to have found a defective connector on the battery grounding cable, which was replaced.the car was returned to service.when a car is barely 2 years old with less than 24000 miles on it, and stalls 7 times, 3 times stranding the driver, in the midst of traffic, this must be considered a significant safety hazard.i still owe the bank $$ for this lemon, and am afraid to venture too farfor fear that the alleged fixes of tighteedg bolts, flashed pcms, and replaced connectors may not be certain fixes.chrysler needs to get to the bottom of this inexcusable problem.

Multi-function light switch on the column causing wiring harness connector to melt and catch fire. Bright headlights would come on for no reason and not go off. Back of switch itself getting very hot. Replaced the wire harness connector but problem still occurs, cannot turn headlights on for extended amount of time or connector melts and catches fire again.

While driving 35 mph steering column caught on fire.consumer extinguished the fire by turning off the turn signals.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the turn signal switch and wiring harness needed to be replaced.

2003 dodge srt-4 (55k)was driving on the freeway and heard a pop. I smelled a foul odor as if something was burning but went away. I did not see any smoke, the windows were down. The car was still riding smoothly so i continue my drive home.was not till that evening i noticed my headlights or fog lights would not turn on. I did some research on the "forums" and read about similar issues. Apparently my mfs (multi function switch) has failed during my drive and it is confirmed that i have a burnt hole under my connecter in the steering column.this is very dangerous. This could have literally started a fire during my drive and or shut off my lights driving at night. I have read that this has actually happened.car is at the dealership right now being fixed with my own money!

- the contact stated that while attempting to drivethe2003 dodge neon with 52500 failure mileage the headlights did not work.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and they informed the contact that the problem with the headlights was a failure in the wiring.the current mileage was 53000 miles.

I drive a dodge neon srt-4. The number 4 spark plug wire is turning snow white, it look s like if i keep it on, it will eventually fail and burn up. I have heard about someone else's wires burning u, and also have seen pictures. I do not want the same thing to happen to me.

Dt: the vehicle caught on fire from the wiring under the dashboard. This happened on september 6, 2005, contacted the dealer, and they were going to investigate it, but have not done so. The vehicle cut off, and smoke came out from under the dash. Then , the vehicle turned on four times by itself whileconsumer holding the key inhand. The horn started blowing and windshield wipers came on.

I have a 2003 dodge neon srt-4 and was driving to work when smoke started coming out of my steering column.i got to work and pulled the steering column apart and found that the connector for the multi-function switch (controls the headlights & turn signals) had melted into the switch.upon discovering that the problem had been had with multiple people driving neons from the same model year, i purchased a replacement switch and wiring harness.i spliced the wires back into place and everything worked but my headlights and fog lights.upon further investigation, the fuse for the headlights had been blown and needed replacing as well.questions posed to dodge/daimler-chrysler resulted in dead ends because there were no visible flames.

My multi-function switch on my 2003 dodge neonshort circuited and melted the plug that it connects toi have contacted dodge and searched multiple junk yards for the plug and have been unable to find one dodge charges $1100 for the wiring harness i have no low beam headlights or fog lights and cannot afford the plug from the dealership nothing has been done to fix my problem.

There was smoke coming from the steering column. I immediately shut down the car. After starting the car, i realized my headlights were not working. I pulled on the multi-function switch twice and regained the use of my headlights. I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership (big valley dodge/subaru) on 5/24/06. On 5/26/06, at about 4:20 pm, i received a call from marvin in the service department. He advised they were going to replace the multi-function switch and wire harness. He also advised i was being charged $386.00 + tax as my car is out of warranty. It seems as there is no tsb on this problem although there are many neon owners having the same problems. Please see links below.http://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3461887#post3461887http://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255414&highlight=multifunction+switchhttp://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251467&highlight=multifunction+switchhttp://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191421&highlight=multifunction+switch.

My headlights/fog lights started flickering and all of my dash lights illuminated. I then lost all power for a brief second and then the car came back to normal. I pulled the steering column apart and found the multi-function switch has started to melt. I have not replaced this yet as i just found this today.

I turned on my headlights and after about thirty seconds, i noticed a smell that smelled like something was burning. Maybe another 15 seconds or so after that, i saw smoke pouring out of the steering column. Pulling off the road now, i rolled down the windows and shut off the lights remembering that other owners have had problems with their wiring harnesses melting. The smoke dispersed and the car seemed fine. I have not used my headlights since.

This is a problem numerous srt-4 owners as well as neon owners are experiencing (http://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221333, http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/results.cfm, http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/results.cfm). My multi-function switch has gone out twice both resulting in instances where the headlights and fog lights do not working. First time i had to pay the dealership to replace the switch. They noted the wiring harness was melted but did not replace nor ask me if i wanted it replaced. This time i replaced the switch myself and headlights and fog lights still don't work. The wiring harness looks completely burnt.

The multi-switch and wiring harness behind my steering wheel melted rendering my headlights (low-beam) and fog lights inoperable.

Wire harness from under steering column caught fire for no reason what so ever. Car has 77000 miles on it. No covered under warranty. This has happened to multiple cars and dodge is not covering repair on this item. Here is a link from more dodge owners that have had this issue for no reason what to ever. Http://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221333&highlight=5183442aai would like to get help in regards to this issue. Thank you

Multi-function switch inside steering column melted wiring harness for headlight switch. Smoke and heat came out of steering column cover. Had to replace dash harness and multi-function switch.

No previous incidents with transmission or radiator, fluids both fine last time car driven, driving on highway, approximately four miles from home, engine began to rev, appeared to have trouble with automatic transmission between gears, check engine light came on, checked at location, radiator empty, transmission fluid low, checked 30 min later, transmission fluid empty, refilled transmission fluid and leaked from radiator- radiator rupture, unsure if damage to transmission from radiator rupture at this time.

While driving at any speedcheck engine light appeared on the dashboard, andsuddenly the vehicle stalled. Driver was able to restart vehicle, and took it to the dealer for inspection.

Dt*: the contact stated the engine rattles hard enough to make the vehicle stall.it has stalled four times.the dealer repaired transmission but the vehicle still has the same problems.the vehicles been to the shop on six occasions for this issue.

The spark plug has repeatedly flown out of the engine, it has been fixed multiple times. There was a sleeve put in to keep it in place one time, another time the cylinder head was replaced, the final time i'm being told i need a new engine. I also had to get the catalytic converter replaced once. I've had to track down anyone to speak to at the dealers, and have gotten conflicting answers any time i've spoken to different people.

Car had a problem with a fuel sensor, we had it replaced.couple of weeks later a fuel cam went out.we had it replaced.we took the car home and next morning it had oil all over the place.towed it to the shop and they said they didn't work on that side of the car.they stated i had a major head casket problem.it started out at $800, then they kept finding more problems with the head.the grommets needed replaced and a lot more parts.finally they stated they had to replace the whole head.it started at $800 then went to $1100 then $1800 then $2100.by the time they where done it was up to $2,600.they gave me a technical bulletin stating that chrysler knew about these problems and won't do anything to fix the problem.these vehicles are know to be throw away cars built to replace over and over.wish i had known before i brought it.

Every 2000 miles the consumer has to put 2 quarts of oil in vehicle.the spark plug went bad in the engine.the brakes squealed every time the vehicle would come to a stop. *sc

No prior incidents.driving along, transmission slips.i let off gas, seems to re-engage, press on gas again, slips again.pulled over after about 200 yds, tried reverse - no movement.trail of transmission fluid behind me, puddle of transmission fluid on the ground.take to shop - told radiator is ruined, and coolant had circulated through the transmission.mechanic hasn't seen this before, yet is obviously a common complaint here on nhtsa.lines running through radiator to cool trans. Fluid are plastic - doomed for failure.i see a pattern here, anyone else?

Upon warmingthe car before driving to work windows steamed up badly ithought itwasbecause of cold temp outside. This happened throughout the winter. Always having a sweet taste in my mouth took the car back to the dealer where i bought it there said the heater corewas leaking would have to replace it. I called the local parts store and got a price on it 60.00 dollars i thought this price was ok .the parts house said good luck i asked whyhe was smiling when he said that .he said that was an 800.00 dollar job by the dealer. He was so right!! the sob who designed that should been made to change it in every car that the core wet bad in i have owned 96 1500 97 1500 99 1500 and now 2003 every one heater core leaks .went on line to see how many people hadthis problem hundreds. People are breathing antifreeze vapor.help!!!!

Neon had to have the manual transmission replaced twice within the total milage of 20,000 miles. The car was delivered with a defective battery temperature sensor, and 1 month before the car caught fire it was in the shop and the mechanic failed to replace the battery tiedown bar.on august 26, 2004 the car caught fire while the ignition was off and was driven for only 5 miles. The vehicle also had a bad passanger seat belt buckle.many passangers complained of it being difficult to insert the belt into the locking mechanism.

Problems with starting up vehicle.*mrthe vehicle was taken tot he dealer on several occasions about the starting problem.the vehicle also experienced erratic idling.the dealer found a large vacuum leak which caused the high idle.

3/22/3 5160 mi radiator loose, brakes pulse, 4/7/3 5500 mi. Front rotors replaced.4/24/36204 mi.power steering failed (twice), ps pump replaced.6/6/3 7300 mi. Seat back poke into my back from the head rest support, actually wearing a spot in the seat back fabric.new seat back ordered.

I am the 2nd hand owner of this vehicle. I have been in possession of it for about a year and 1/2 have meticulously maintained it and it has 55,000 mile on it. Recently the transmission became rather jumpy and it was to go into service but the day before i was to schedule an appointment it was more jumpy than usual and i smelt trans. Fluid through my air vents. Checked trans. Fluid and found nothing on the stick, shut if off, looked under the car and there was a puddle of pink fluid under on the ground. Looked at the little bit of fluid that was the trans stick and it was the same color. Looked in the coolant, same fluid as on the stick and the ground. My radiator had given out mixing my coolant with trans. Fluid. This left me to pay $974 out of pocket because chrysler would not help pay for this common problem. Car is under a 7/70k power train warranty. Radiator is not covered.

While driving at 70 mph, the speedometer fluctuated and consumer couldn't get an accurate reading of the vehicle's speed.*ph the mechanic attempted to fix the speedometer numerous times, once by replacing the internal cluster. There was a squealing noise coming from the front of the vehicle, the noise was fixed by blocking the air intake on the front of the vehicle. The vehicle stalled several timeson the freeway, however the mechanic was unable to find the problem.there was a noise coming from the heat shield.the consumer stated the vehicle consumed a lot of fuel, there was a rattle from the exhaust and the engine had an oil leak, subsequently the dealer was unable to verify the consumer's concerns.

Engine blowing due to rings deteriorating before reaching 100,000 miles. Compression low, car shakes, close to stalling out. Harder to start. Only way to fix is by replacing engine. Have seen thousands of references to this on many dodge forums and other sites.does not just include the 03 neon sxt, also se, srt, intrepid, and one of the chrysler models.

I have a 2003 dodge neon that i have took back to the dealership 5 or more times with the emmision light coming on and it still is doing it.

We purchased a dodge neon srt/4 and 3 weeks after having the car had problem with the manifold was cherry red,and no power what so ever the engine light was on this happen on 5/22/03 then it serviced with a catalytic convertorand on these other dates the car was in for service their after=7/15/03,7/23/03,8/20/03, the dealer we purchased the car accussed us of putting after market parts we had it inspected in another dealer and had a report stating the car had no after market parts installed.

I have a new 2003 dodge neon that has never been wrecked and so far the shifter boot has torn(was replaced) but is now cracking again (it's [xxx] cold where i live, -50 to -60 happens). I had an oil leak that was blamed on me by anchorage chrysler, i reported that the right rear brakes always sqeal when applied (i was told thats dust) but it's happenes every day. I needed an wheel alignment (car puuls to the left) and i'm told you cant align a neon. You can part of the alignment but were sorry [xxx] it will always pull to the left because it is not adjustable.the alignment came from lithia in anchorage alaska (they are great people) i dont blame them 1 bit they didnt make a car that cant be fixed(dodge did). Anchorage chrysler was my best friend until i brought my car in for repairs then they actually told me the reason i have problems with it is because it's a cheap no good car. I sent an e-mail to dodge asking why they would build such a vehicle that could never be aligned and they said we try to make everybody happy. Not once getting to the question "why" what was the reasoning behind such a stupid idea. I love my car but because of this 1 flaw i cant wait to get rid of it. I'm checking into a mini, need to make sure it can be fixed if needed first. The car still pulls to the left(rather hard at times), the shifter boot is still splitting, the brakes still squeek. And now i'm wondering if the fuel gauge is correct. Anybody want to buy a nice "looking" neon with low miles. I dont remember the actuall incident dates. This is an ongoing thinginformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My 2003 dodge neon srt4 started smoking from the steering wheel column, and my head lights went out, also my brake lights and dash lights went out as well. When i took it to the mechanic after checking they saw that the connector from the multifunction switch was all melted and had caught on fire thank god it didn't spread at the time.i had to replace the whole harness and switch and from forums i have come to know that there is a lot this cars with same problem.this has to stop is really dangerous and is costing us a lot of money,it is really unsafe.

Headlights went out while driving at night then would only operate intermittently until finally they didn't work at all.took off the multifunction switch and the electrical connector to the switch was melted.after some research i found out that the manufacturers made the wires too small to carry the electrical load.

Multifunction headlight switch failure, smell of burning plastic followed by failure of low beam headlights, pulled on high beams and exited interstate. Found pin plug and switch were melted. Replace switch and wiring plug.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. The contact stated that the high beam headlight switch failed, which affected the fog lights. After performing research, the contact deduced that the wiring harness was melted and needed to be replaced. The dealer was later contacted and advised that he would have to bring the vehicle in for inspection. The contact repaired the vehicle by replacing the high low beam mechanism, but did not replace the wiring harness. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The current mileage was approximately 185,000. The vin was unavailable.

Recently i was driving my 2003 dodge neon sxt going to drop my kids off at my parents house. When i dropped them off my headlights and fog lights were working fine. After dropping them off i got back into my car and started it and went to turn my headlights and fog lights back on only to find that they didn't work! my parking lights and taillights worked but the low beams and fog lights didn't and still don't. I have checked the fuses, the light bulbs and i even checked the switch and they all looked great and from what i can tell the wiring looks good. I belong to a neon club on the internet and there are others having the same problem. I checked on the internet for a recall on the 03' neon and i found one for the exterior lighting but when i called the dealership they said that my car wasn't affected by the recall and i would have to pay to get the car fixed. A car this new should not be having problems like this i can understand some general maintenance sure but not both headlights and fog lights not working at the same time. My high beams work if i hold them on but if i let go of the switch they turn off.

I was getting ready to drive to work. I turned on my headlights to find that they were not functioning. Later i removed the multi-function switch and located a burned electrical connector. The current repair will be to replace the multi-switch and burned connector.

This makes 3rd transmission that has been put in this 2003 dodge neon xst . I have put $10.000.00 in transmission replacements ! these are lemons!! i will never buy another dodge!!

About 6 months ago while driving to work, it started raining and i turned my headlights on. The headlights would not come on but the driving lights did, i flip the headlight switch up to high beams and the brights worked. I noticed in the process that smoke started coming from steering column and it smelled like wires burning.while driving on the interstate, after it had rained.i set my cruise control, the first time, used it since the smoke. I set the cruise at 75 mph. The car started accelerating to 80 the computer caught the increase and downshifted on it's own. About 10 minutes later, the car started accelerating again, this time it was up to 90 mph, and continuing to gain speed. I pressed the brakes and the cruise control button to release the cruise and neither worked.i was coming up on the exit that i was needing to take.i down shifted the automatic to 2nd and 1st the car slowed, but not enough. I shifted to neutral and still the car would not stop.at the bottom of the exit ramp there was a wide spot that i knew that i could use if a car was coming. At the bottom of the exit ramp i was finally down to 30 mph but still not able to stop. I finally pulled the emergency brake, still the car would not stop.finally when the car was headed up a hill the car slowed to 10 mph and i shifted the car into park and turned it off. Finally, i stopped without any damage to the outside of the car, and with out leaving the road.the brakes have been replaced since the smoke and headlights have not worked on dim.the dodge place, dalton, ga is says that the multi functional switch that control the headlight will fix the problem that caused the cruise control to lockup that is on a different control.how many lives have to be injured or lost before chrysler issues a recall for their cars.i had my 8 & 10 yr olds with me earlier, and had just dropped them off. Is fixing your parts that are installed on cars by manufacturers worth more than 3+ lives.

My wire harness/ multifunction switch has melted causing my headlight and fog lights not to work.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon.the contact stated that the high beams, headlights and fog lights did not work properly.the switch was replaced, but failed again approximately one month later.there was an opened and closed investigation (ea06019) for the failure.the failure mileage was 80,000.

Driving at night, headlights wouldn't switch to low, then headlights ceased working at all, extremely hot, electrical smell, multifunction switch melted, needed to be replaced.

2003 dodge neon, low beams quit working a few weeks later the fog lights became intermittent, then eventually quit working too.upon examination it was discovered that the connector that attaches to the multifunction switch is melting from being overheated during headlamp/foglamp use.dodge is aware of the problem but does not have a recall on it.a repair kit is available, the description for which clearly indicates that dodge is aware of the problem.research also reveals that the same repair kit is indicated for several other chrysler products exhibiting similar design deficiencies.

2003 dodge neon srt-4 multifunction switch failure. The wiring connector to the switch is melted. Low beam headlights and fog lights will not turn on. Can provide pictures.

While the headlights are on and signaling for a right turn the fog lights come on the entire time it was in that position. This happens every time now although the fog light switch is in the off position.while trying to find the source of the problem i noticed that movement of the turn signal stalk in a circular motion also turned on the fog lights briefly.

Just driving one day evening, about 1.5 hours onto the trip i start to smell something wierd and a few minuets later my headlights start to flicker and then they shutoff. I pulled over and checked the fuses, they were all good. I had to stay in a nearby hotel that night. The next morning i looked at an online forum for a solution and found one that suggested that the harness melts. I pulled off the sterring colum and to find the connector into the multifunction switch has completly melted. I bought a new harness and switch and installed myself. The forum said that to keep the headlights off as much as possible to not let the wires get too hot.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon.while driving various speeds at night, the contact noticed that the headlights would flicker sporadically and the passenger side fog light failed.she had the fog light repaired, but it failed again six months later.several months after that, the interior lighting failed.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness needed to be replaced.the vehicle is currently being repaired.the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 93,000.

I was using my headlights and fog lights and smelled burning plastic and saw smoke coming from my steering column. I shut off my lights and a few minutes later the smoke stopped. That evening my headlights lost function and only my high beams would work. My high beams now flicker and i'm fearing those will lose function as well. When removing the panel beneath my steering column i looked to see what happened and all i could see is that one of wiring harnesses is melted. I've looked at other investigations that relate including ea06019 and pe06028.

2003 dodge neon lights went out and started seeing smoke coming out of the dash on the left hand side where the multi function switch is.

Multi-function switch melting/burning, causing headlights, blinkers and dash lights not to function.problem not presently fixed.

The multi-switch and wiring harness behind my steering wheel melted rendering my headlights (low-beam) and fog lights inoperable.

Headlight failure due to multi-function switch , and it's costing $456 to repair and not covered under the extended warranty.

- the contact stated that while attempting to drivethe2003 dodge neon with 52500 failure mileage the headlights did not work.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and they informed the contact that the problem with the headlights was a failure in the wiring.the current mileage was 53000 miles.

Wiring melted in steering column and head lights would not work. Had to have dealer repair wiring, replace headlight switch.

I would like to add a complaint to the nhtsa action number: ea06019. I have a 2003 dodge neon and the multifunction switch for my head lights has failed twice. In both cases i noticed a plume of smoke come out of my steering column and with in two weeks i lost my low beams and then my high beams failed a week or so later. The multifunction switch was replaced under warranty the first time that it failed. The second time (which happened this past week) my car is no longer under warranty and i must now pay to have the multifunctions switch replaced.

I noticed one day that a white puff of smoke came from the steering column shroud.i turned the car off immediately and turned it back on.it did not happen again so i continued to use the vehicle.several months after my headlights stopped working, the brights however worked fine.i could wiggle the wiring in the dash thesteering wheel all the way down and they worked.i made an appointment with the dealer and before i could get in the headlights died completely.the dealer replaced the multi-function stalk under warranty and everything worked fine until i sold the car.

Dt*: the contact stated the headlight switch was defective.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer to change the module switch and harness to correct the problem.

2003 dodge neon lights went out and started seeing smoke coming out of the dash on the left hand side where the multi function switch is.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's headlight multi function switch did not function.the vehicle was not taken to a service dealer.

Headlight switch and associated wiring harness shorted and melted resulting in loss of all interior and exterior lighting.

My headlights and fog lights would not turn on one morning.i took the steering column apart and noticed that the wiring plug was melted.i contacted the dealership and they stated this is a problem with the neons and the wiring as well as the light switch needs to be replaced.

While driving 35 mph steering column caught on fire.consumer extinguished the fire by turning off the turn signals.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the turn signal switch and wiring harness needed to be replaced.

In the process of replacing spark plugs in our neon, i noticed the fuel rail for the injectors under the hood has a lot of severe rust and pitting on it. It mustbe made out of steel. This vehicle was never under water so this must be bad parts. I don't like the fact that it is rusting out. One pin hole and there would be an engine fire. I have my children who work in a salvage yard looking to get me a rust free one now to replace this one. I believe they should be recalled.

I have a 2003 dodge neon sxt.i purchased the car in 2008.6 months later the transmission gave out.the car would not run at all. There were no warnings to this.aamaco said that the radiator blew which led to the coolant and trans. Fluid mixing together and destroying the transmission.i had no warranty because the car was bought used.it cost me 3500 dollars to fix this problem.now the check engine light keeps coming on and the car is burning fuel.i am getting anywhere from 10 to 17 mpg depending on the day.i have taken the car to three different mechanics, including a dealership, who can not figure out what is wrong with it.the worst problem yet is that when it is raining outside and i am driving the car there is a small thunking noise, and then a loud thunking noise that locks up the rear tires and brings the car to a skidding halt.so far, know on wood, no accidents, but it is a very dangerous situation.again, the car has gone to several mechanics who claimed they figured out the problem.have changed everything from axles, to brake cylinders and brakes.paid approximately 1500 dollars out of pocket, and the car is still doing the same thing.i have young children who i refuse to drive anywhere in this car for their own safety.

Oil problem although i paid thousands for repairs.-butthe engine light flashes when car is stopped at a traffic light or idling for even a short time. When car is in motion, a steady engine light is on all the time, except when it flashes. This has been happening for a couple of years. I need info on this and all recalls or complimentary repairs available . I need to be safe .thank you.

This makes 3rd transmission that has been put in this 2003 dodge neon xst . I have put $10.000.00 in transmission replacements ! these are lemons!! i will never buy another dodge!!

Premature failure of motor mounts. Causing possible problems with electrical system, exhaust system, excessive noise and vibration.

3 days after purchasing vehicle, it would not go into reverse.after several attempts, and the engine engaged in neutral, it would violently jump into reverse.dodge fixed the problem with reverse;currently vehicle continues to lunge violently forward after stopping, forcing me to put in park at lights, intersections; etc., to avoid rear-ending other vehicles.i have had the vehicle in the shop on three occasions, and they are unable to find the problem! *la

The contact owns 2003 dodge neon. The contact stated the check engine light remained illuminated and within a few minutes the transmissions second gear failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times to diagnose the failure. The dealer stated that the transmission had metal shavings, but they did not correct the failure. The failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 84,000. The manufacturer will be contacted.

I bought my 2003 neon with 18,000 miles.immediately i noticed the car shifted hard and sometimes when putting into gear would not go into drive.i took to my dealership on 3 occassions, once in 08/03, once in 12/03, and once in 03/04.all three times i was told that the car shifted fine and that the problem could not be "duplicated".on 08/04/03, i was traveling down the interstate whne my transmission locked up and rendered my car inoperable and immobile.car was towed to dealership and was told that the transmission failed and that they had never seen anything like it before.i was given a totally new transmission unit.since then the car has been shifting funny and it also hesitates a lot, especially in the late afternoon when it is fairly warm out.

Vehicle performed poorly.the gears slipped, vehicle hesitated and jerked. Transmission was serviced four times, and theperformance was the same.

While driving at 50mph vehicle shut down. Transmission went out. Dealer notified.

Total transmission failure.yet to be rebuilt very expensive!i will never purchase another dodge/chrysler/jeep product again!

Intermittently and at any speedvehicle switchedinto lower gear and stalled.this problemoccurred over 20 times since march of this year.vehicle had been to a repair shop over seven times, but problem recurred . Consumers sustained minor leg and shoulder injuries.

Transmissin failure on the intersate w/ a 2 year old and a 6 month old children in the car.had just purchased the vehicle on july 19, 2004 with only 17 miles on the vehicle.

While driving vehicle jumped out of gear into neutral. Tookvehicle todealer, who stated that shift fortpads were not properly installed which caused the shift collar not to engage.

I was driving to store at moderately slow speed and transmission slipped out of gear and car would not move. Checked transmission fluid and it was empty. Car towed to dealer and i was told the radiator had given out and the coolant had circulated through the transmission. Radiator was replaced and coolant was supposedly flushed from transmission. Chrysler did pay for most of repair but only after calling chrysler.

Plastic transmission lines running through only one radiator system. One line brokedoe to cold temperatures allowed antifreeze & trans coolant to mixed together in both the engine & transmission, both had to be flushed & cost me the consumer over $648.93 out of my pocket. Their warranty did not cover it.

Dt:the contact stated while drivingthe clutch malfunctioned three times with no warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealership, and they replaced the clutch.this occurred every six months.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon srt4 (na). The contact stated that while driving approximately 15-20 mph, the 3rd gear shifter suddenlypopped out of place. The contact was able to continue driving after a little maneuvering. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer but they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was contacted but they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Bought car new and i am meticulous about it's maintenance. Oil seal in manual transmission has failed twice now. Once in 2004 with about 10,000 mi. On the car with no damage to clutch disc and again now in 2008 with 45,000 mi. This time the clutch disc was contaminated with oil and was not included in the repair under chrysler's 7 yr. 70,000 mi. Drivetrain warranty. Ended up paying for a new clutch assembly as well as the 100.00 deductible. This car has been a nightmare. This is just one of about 15 times this car has been in for major repair.

The transmission in my dodge neon rt 2003 has went out twice, they have to replace it w/ new ones... I know a few more people where the transmission was broken in these cars.. It's happening constatnly in the neon rt.. Manual transmission*la

I have a 2003 dodge srt-4 since i bought the car i have been having problem with my transmission. Sometimes it's hard the get in gears no mater is you're down shifting or up shifting, i went twice to the dealer i they told me that is normal but i know from the chats that there is a lot of people having the same problem.thanks.*la

1) no warning of upcoming part failure.car was being driven on the highway at normal speed (55) preparing to decelerate/downshift, damp road conditions, but wasn't currently raining. Car is a 2003 dodge neon r/t. Part in question is new to the 2003 model year.2) clutch master cylinder assembly (master cylinder, hydraulic line, and release cylinder-sealed assy.) hydraulic line broke off while downshifting coming off the h3 into the usmc base (many swerves and need to slow down.)this resulted in a loss of fluid to the pressure plates causing the transmission to not disengage properly.the car does not shift properly, and the engine rpm's do not drop when the clutch is pressed.the stick cannot be pulled out of gear into neutral if the car is moving even 10mph.this could have been a hazardous/fatal problem under other circumstances.3) i am contacting windward dodge in the morning to have the master cylinder assembly replaced and the rest of the clutch assembly inspected (replaced if necessary) for excessive wear/damage from this incident.if they aren't sending the part off for an inspection at corporate offices i will requestto hang on to it in case an engineer somewhere would like it.

The vehicle accelerated very slow when put into 2nd gear. The rpmhangs at 3000; while stopped in neutral the idle fluctuated from 3000-1000 rpm and the vehicle idled very rough. The dealership has serviced the vehicle 5 times, in which the sparks plug, air filter, oil filter etc,. Has been replaced. The problem still exist. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being serviced for this same issue.

Car was hard to shift into any gears - car was taken to dealership and was given a replacement transmission.they blamed it on bad synchros.about 6,000 miles later i had the same problem only worse.the car would not shift into 3rd gear at all.it would only grind.they replaced it again with a new transmission.now - once again i am having trouble shifting into 3rd gear and sometimes 4th.

The rear passenger side seat belt tensioner broke. The seat belt wouldn't stay tight.dealership had to replace the entire seat belt assembly to fix the problem.

Consumer applied brakes in a sudden stop from 35 mph and the lap/shoulder belt failed to retract. This causedconsumer's knee to hit the dashboard, and his chest to hit the steering wheel. Consumer declined transportation to the local hospital.

Therear seat belt mechanism broke, also, the plastic cover which protected the metal fell off. Dealer notified.

Every 2000 miles the consumer has to put 2 quarts of oil in vehicle.the spark plug went bad in the engine.the brakes squealed every time the vehicle would come to a stop. *sc

2003 dodge neon brake lights would go on revealing low brake fluid. Problem resolved by adding brake fluid and light would go out.after two incidents of correcting same problemcar was driven and brakes were hard to press and did not stop within acceptable distances. Car was inspected by serviceman and it was found that the lower brake line fitting perpendicular to the groundand attached to the master cylinders leaked.the problem is that you assume you lose brake fluid by use and it is really a leak.adding fluid appears to solve the problem but by the time you received a brake light warningair has entered the brake system and causes a situation where your brake distanced is compromised and at highway speeds you may not stop within the distance you are accustomed to and this may cause an accident. Tightening the fittings did not work at he time of this complaint.

The accelerator stuck and the brakes failed.dealer contactedthe manufacturer, who reported that the throttle screw was loose, and they were inspecting the vehicle. Screw on clip on throttle hose came off, causingair to rush in rev up the accelrator and caused brake failure.

The following is, what i consider a life threatening problem with the 2003, 2004 & 2005 dodge neon srt-4 model cars and possibly other models that have unsecured vacuum lines in the brake system. I have two first-hand occurrences of this problem. The first occurrence did not result in an incident, but the second caused destruction of my vehicle and could have resulted in my & my sons death.in the first incident the small vacuum line coming from the turbo boost gage and the check valve blew off the brake booster. This line is not secured to the brake booster. It is only a push fit. As a result the brake pedal became very hard and i had about 20% braking at 30-40 mph. To keep this from happening again i zip tied the check valve and line on the brake booster.in the second incident the large vacuum line from the brake booster to the intake manifold blew off the intake manifold. This resulted in a very hard brake pedal and no brakes at 70 mph during very hard braking. The result was a frontal impact and the destruction of my car. This large vacuum line is not secured at either end and also has a coupling in the middle that is not secured either. I have secured this line with clamps and am expecting to get my car to the frame shop soon.this is a problem that is known by a lot of neon srt-4 owners and they have taken measures to secure these lines, but there are a lot of owners that have no idea that this problem exists.

Abs brakes failedand the vehicle slid into a guard rail. This occurred upon going down a hill on a snowy road at 7 mph. Prior to the incidentvehicle was serviced 4 times by the dealership because the brakes were squeaking.dealership indicated that the brakes were fine, they just had to wear in. Also, when consumer put vehicle in reverse and depressed the gas pedal vehicle accelerated forward. Consumer then put vehicle back in park, thenin reverse again to correct the problem.

Abs braking lightappeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined thatabs braking module needed to be replaced.

While drivingandapplying brakes brake pedal would go to the floor, causingpulsationand extended stopping distance. Dealerinspectedvehicletentimesand could not duplicate or correct the problem.

Back brakes fall off the pads and causes tire to lock up, causing a 360 turn and possible accident! this happened the first time after having the car one year, about 70,000 miles on the car. Second time was the other side of the back brakes. Had to replace the brakes and springs on each side.

While applying the brake pedal, the consumer heard a loud "squeaking noise"and the vehicle vibrated. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic was unable toduplicate the problem. Please provide further details.

Drum brake pad failure.friction materiel separeted from metal backing and caused immediate lockup of rt rear drum brake. Vehicle traveling at less than 5 mph. Could have happened at highway speeds, that would have have been much worse, possibly fatal.vehicle type 2003 dodge neon sxt, mileage 52000. Factory orignal brake pads.

A vibration could be felt in the front end steering components and through the steering wheel when applying the brakes. First reported 05/29/03 @ 7,900 miles. Rotors were turned, brake pads sanded (covered under warranty), tires balanced & rotated ( i paid for these repairs). Second complaint on 08/14/03 @ 11,747 miles. No work was done. Third report of the same problem reported on 02/04/04 @ 19,480 miles. Informed rotors were warped. Rotors were turned, brake pads replaced, tires were balanced & rotated. All of this work was not covered under warranty and i was charged for these repairs.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. He took the rear brakes apart on his vehicle to inspect them because they were making grinding noises.he discovered that the brake lining separated from the backing plate. Also the adhesive was separating. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 170,000.

Dt: the contact stated while driving andwhen takingfoot off the brake pedal the brake light illuminated in the dashboard. He took the vehicle to a dealership to have it checked, and they found the brake cylinders were leaking. No repairswere made.updated 1/19/2006 -repairs were made on 12/28/2005.

As i was driving down the road with my lights on, i began to see and smell smoke coming from steering column. I turn the lights off and the smoke cleared up and went away. After some time, i turned the lights back on with no problem to be found at this time. A week or so later the headlight switch would not work unless you pulled the high beam switch, then and only as you held the switch the lights would work. ( if you have never sit and held the switch while driving at night ( of course ) to get home it is no fun. ) that week end i pulled the covers off the column and pulled the harness out of switch to find it was melted. Needless to say i am down a vehicle until this is fixed. Luckily there was no fire.

Consumer complained about a control arm bushings problem. Bushing are wearing out every 8,000 miles. Ownercontactedmanufacturer anddealer, who offered the owner replacement, however, because of the control arm bushings wearing thin the vehicle had a problem with the steering , as well.vehiclecould not pass inspection.

I was having trouble with the headlight switch. I couldn't turn on my headlights without switching the switch form high beams to low beams a few times, then i would turn the switch off then on, and the lheadlights would then turn on. I called the dealer and told them what was going on, they made an appointment for me to brign my car in to be looked at. When they found out what it was they then called me and told me the switch needed to be replaced, and the plug from the switch was melted and when they tried to take the plug out from wher it was plugged into, the plug broke apart into several pieces. My question to the seervice department was, what could have caused that switch to heat up and melt the way it did? he in turn said to me, i don't know, your car isn't the only type tha has been in here with the same problem.if my carwasn't the first into their servicxe department to be repaired, then to me this is a problem, the switch is heating up causing the plug to melt, i don't know if that could casue a fire, but i wasn't garanteed that it wouldn't happen again. I have spent 250.00 plus tax and labor which all together came to $354. 74. Could someone look into this to see what can be done and see if this is a recall problem. I believe it should be some kind of recall. If it is happening to several other cars. Not only my type of car either. I have the 2003 dodge neon sxt. Thank you for your time in this matter. Please have someone email on this matter, or callme. Thank you again.

Looseness and rattle in steering column.

While parked in the rain, water was leaking from top of drivers-side door, soaking the driver-side floor to a point that squishing sounds could be heard, also during rain, the drivers-side of the trunk leaked & it soaked enough water to be able to soak a cloth & squeeze water out.this has been an ongoing issue.

We purchased the vehicle about 2 years ago from a used car dealership. About a week after we bought it, the check engine light came on, and we also noticed that the trunk was leaking and had so much water in it that mushrooms were literally growing under the carpet. No one could fix the trunk leak. We had to take the carpet out and bleach the mushrooms off, twice. We ended up buying caulking and fixed it ourselves so we wouldn't waste $250 for a mechanic to not fix it again. It took 3 tubes of caulking, but it stopped leaking. Now the sun roof leaks as well.but the biggest problem is that no one seems to be able to fix the check engine light problem either. We've taken the car to 4 separate garages and have had this same issue "fixed" 6 times now. We've spent at least $500 all in all on this one problem and each time, the light goes off, but a week later it comes back on. No one can fix it.we've had the car for 2 years and we've already put at least $1000 into it, if you include the brakes and tune ups.

While driving if there is any little dip in the road vehicle will bottom out.vehicle's front has been severely damaged because of this problem.

While driving, there was a wind noise that's was very annoying. It sounded like a window was down.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they said it was normal.please describe further.

My daughter has a 2003 dodge neon and when it rains water collects in the trunk and right front floorboard. If you check out websites on complaints about dodge neons and their water leaks there are hundreds or more complaints from owners. This water leak does present a safety and health hazard in the form of mold collecting in a car. This defect in construction needs to be investigated. I contacted my dodge dealer and they would not respond to me.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. While driving 40 mph, the contact heard a loud grinding noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the front subframe was fractured. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 103,421.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge neon. The contact stated that water was leaking into the trunk and mold started to grow in the vehicle as a result. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance and referred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,000.

Premature failure of motor mounts. Causing possible problems with electrical system, exhaust system, excessive noise and vibration.

Bought car new. Rear lower control arm bushings have failed twice on this car and during my last inspection the passengers side bushing was starting to tear and fail again. A local dodge dealer still inspected the car after firestone would not due to safety the safety issues of a failed control arm bushing. First failure happened at around 25,000 mi. And second around 40,000 mi. They will be replaced again during next years safety inspection done at firestone this time. This car is garbage.

2003 dodge neon lower control arm bushings worn out for the second time first time at 68,000, now at 87,000. The shop says very unsafe.

Dt: the bushings on both front lower control arms separated from the control arms. The left side control arm was touching the sub frame, and the right side was almost there. Both bushings had come out. The dealer said there was nothing wrong.the dealer said to have chrysler look at it too.

The car started to make scraping and squeaking noises while going over bumps and dips. I inspected the front suspension and had found that the rear bushings on both front lower control arms separated from the control arms. The passengers side control arm had failed and was touching the sub frame, the drivers side was close to failing. Both bushings were replaced by the dealer under warranty.

Water flows into the trunk of the car by going down through the side panels(under the trunk) and ends up under the spare tire. This makes it hard to identify because you don't notice it until you need your spare.

While i was accelerating to get on the highway, my car suddenly lurched violently forward causing me and my passengers to sustain neck trauma, not significant enough though to require medical assistance.this has happened about 150 times since i have owned the car, which has been almost 3 years.this last time was concerning enough for me to file this report.most times it is really not that significant of a jerk or lurch, but definitely noticeable and annoying/concerning.it happens when i am usually stopped and start to proceed, and the speedometer will show a drop in speed, hesitate, and jerk the car forward.i have had this problem since i bought my car and have had it in for service twice.once they replaced the gas cap, and once they replaced the output speed sensor.i have since been online looking for other people having the same problem as me, and believe me, there are many, and find that it is the oxygen sensor that causes this problem.if i am having problems with my car jerking forward, enough to cause my neck to almost sustain whiplash, i feel this is a defect in the car, and should be looked into by your agency.

1.started to accelerate off of a green light heard a loud pop. The car started to accelerate, when in gear, without me having to apply any pressure to the accelerator.as i continued on my way home i heard a loud hissing like a metal on metal sound.possibly the throttle control sensor2. This is the first time that this has happened on any of my vehicles.3. The incident just happened today taking it back to the dealership to get it fixed.

While driving my 2003 dodge neon sxt the throttle cable snapped and i lost the ability to accelerate or control the car speed.this happened in the fast lane of a6 lane roadway.i was able to coast the vehicle off the roadway and had it towed to the dealer. While with this incident i was fortunate to avoid a collision if the potential for a serious accident was obvious.several approaching cars narrowly avoided colliding with my vehicle because of the sudden loss of the ability to maintain speed.

The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration when the driver barely touched the pedal, almost hitting the vehicles that were in front. Manufacturer was contacted by owner.

The accelerator stuck and the brakes failed.dealer contactedthe manufacturer, who reported that the throttle screw was loose, and they were inspecting the vehicle. Screw on clip on throttle hose came off, causingair to rush in rev up the accelrator and caused brake failure.

While driving 30 mph, the consumer applied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. The consumer applied the brake pedal and the vehicle continued to accelerate uncontrollably.the mechanic informed the driver that the accelerator cable needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

There is a serious blind spot when looking to the left out the windshield.the piece that connects the front windshield and drivers side window is much too wide for proper visibility.also noticed poor visibility when driving at night with oncoming headlights.

*nlm

While drivingat low speeds front wheel came off.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While driving at 40 mphit felt as though the vehicle had caught a flat.consumerpulled over, and the front passenger's tirecame completely off. Vehicle landed on its rim. Lugs nuts sheared off.

While driving, the front left tire blew out.this was due to the rimpeeling off. *ph
