The contact owns a 2000 dodge neon. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, the anti-lock braking system failed and caused her to crash into the rear of another vehicle. The seat belts did not properly restrain and the air bags did not deploy.the contact and a passenger were reported injured and transported to the hospital via ambulance.the police were notified and a police report was filed. The vehicle was severely damaged and towed to the contact's residence.the manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised that there was an open recall on the vehicle for the brakes (nhtsa campaign id number:01v154000-service brakes, hydraulic: power assist: vacuum) but not for the seat belt and air bags. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 129,000.
When sliding on ice i went into the ditch at approx 30 mph.the vehicle picked up speed during the slide.the ditch was steep but narrow.my front end hit the other side of the ditch causing $6000 front end damage.neither passenger or driver side air bag deployed!my seatbelt did not latch!!my wrists impacted the dash leaving my nailpolish on the stereo.my chest impacted the steering wheel.i could not lift my baby for a very long time...a year. I couldn't tie my 6 childrens shoes without pain for over two years.i still have moderate to severe pain attacks!i still do not have full function of my right wrist and typing this irritates it like crazy.my elbow was out of place.my ribs are now permanently out of place and there are injuries to my back and neck.my right side of my face goes numb and i suffer severe and frequent headaches.i am now severely depressed.i used to be an rn.i have a weight limit of 2-10 pounds with no consistent use of my right arm allowed.this is now over 4 years since my accident.nothing was done for me.i couldn't work and had to suffer the consequences of turning my car back into the dealer.i just paid the judgment from chrysler off this year.i am still upset to see so very many people stillbeing injured and chrysler off free.i wish i had an attorney willing to sue their pants off for the life changes they have given me.i previously wore a seatbelt religiously.i'm 39 now and i promise i will never wear one again since being strangled with chrysler's belt.dealer did nothing to remedy.said they had no way to check these problems and found nothing wrong with the seatbelt.disgusting!this vehicle only had 4500 miles on it and i bought it brand new.this so call recall took place in april 1999.my purchase was september 1999.

I have a dodge neon 2000.on the morning of january 29, 2004, my airbag signal appeared with a ringing noise for a brief moment. Later that day, the signal began to appear more often when turning my steering wheel. The following morning, i had the dealership to diagnose the problem. I was later informed 5 hours later it was the clockspring and it was not covered under the manufacture nor the extended warranty. The price to fix it would be $389.this is a ripoff.the reason consumers purchase automobiles with airbags is for the extra security.if there was a defect with the seat belts, there would be a recall.just like seat belts are design for protecting passengers from harm so is the airbags.thus, clocksprings should be recalled and not put on the expense of the consumer due to the manufacture not providing a more secure part especially when the consumer is still making payments.
While traveling at30 to 35 mph, another vehicle suddenly pulled out in front of the consumer's vehicle and caused an accident.the consumer's vehicle was totaled, and none of the airbags deployed.*scc
The horn only works occasionally.was told it is a manufacturer's defect with the airbag by our mechanic. The airbag may not work in an accident.i never know when my horn will work to communicate with other drivers.
My daughter hit ice on a bridge going about 40 -45 mph spun and struck the guardrail head on and while spinning hit guardrail with frontend at least one or more times, the airbags did not deploy.the car was a total loss.this happened on 2/20/2012.she hit her jaw on the steering wheel, luckily there was no broken bone just very sore.the officer at the accident stated that we should contact a lawyer about this. Front end crash 2003 may, 4783.45 in damage, air bag did not deploy at 40mph !!!i had car repaired by non chrysler garage as per advice of erie insurance co.erie wont cover because they say its chrysler's problem, chrysler says its my problem because work was done at non daimler chrysler garage and they were rude and hung up on me!erie told me to have diagnostic check done on it becuz in aug 03 the air bag lite started to come on and horn wont work. I had the check done and they said clockspring needs replaced.not erie or chrysler will fix.

Now the horn will not blow, and steering is tighter than normal.i called the dealership where i purchased the car, and they told me it sounded like the "clock spring", and was not hazadarous to drive.i noticed there is a recall on another model of dodge van for the same part, why isn't there been one for neon? why is this not considered a safety hazaroud?now if i have to pay out of pockect expense to repair this spring before i can even get this inspected due to the horn not properly working.

I owned a 2000 dodge neon. I last drove the vehicle on may 25, 2004 and it had been parked outside my apartment since that time. According to the police report, on may 27, 2004 at about 2:45am my car while parked outside my apartment caught on fire. I was unaware of this and was asleep in my apartment at that time. According to the police and fire department, the fire was confined to the engine compartment and had to be put out by the fire department. According to the insurance fire investigator, the heat from the fire was so intense and engine and front end damage so severe that he was unable to determine an official cause but suspected the fire to be electrical in nature. Officially according to my insurance, the cause is unknown. My insurance determined my vehicle to be a total loss. I have no reason to expect arson or that it was deliberately set fire. The police and fire departments also did not suspect arson and are not pursuing further investigation. The consequence of this fire was a big finacial loss for me(based on my annual income) due to the insurance reimbursing only half the original cost of the car. I also am thankful that i was not operating the vehicle when this happened which could have caused me serious injuries. I did have two prior accidents to the front end of this vehicle with one of the crashes requiring the engine to be removed and put back in. This crash, however, took place over a year ago and i had no problems with the neon up until may 27, 2004. As a result, i do not suspect the prior repairs to be the cause of this fire. With the recent recall of the chryslar pt cruiser, i thought i should report this neon engine fire to protect other neon owner's safety.

Make:dodgemodel:neontype:passenger caryear:2000summary: as noted in other complaints, with any heavy rainfall, the floor in the back seats fills with water (up to an inch or more). Appears to be entering through the trunk area, as the spare tire well also fills with water. Using sponges and a shopvac to soak up the water and then leaving windows open to dry it out is my only remedy to the moisture and odor. This has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased in 2001. The dealer is of no help because (mercifully for others) that deal went bankrupt a year after purchase.i have a litany of other concerns with the 2000 neon. I've had to replace the engine (chrysler refused to honor warranty - partly a problem with records as the dealership of purchase/initial maintenance has gone out of business), each time i start the car, the fuse warning light comes on, though all fuses have been checked and look ok.an electrical harness has failed and as a result i have no functioning interior dome lights or exterior backup lights. Repeated efforts by several repair facilities to locate the correct harness have failed. Vehicle has under 72,000 miles of relatively easy city driving (commute to workplace) or divided highway driving), yet most front and rear suspension system components have failed and been replaced (all struts, sway bars, etc). Transmission fluid hose or connector failed on feb 19, 2006, resulting in sudden and complete loss of fluid.

Turning signal headlights 80% failure, when temperature in vehicle over 100 degrees. When lights are engaged, all rear marking lamps, side, and instrument panel failed, and fog lights came on when in off position. I spoke to a tech off the record, this is a common problem. This resulted in a near collision since instrument panel was not visible to driver. When temp in car went down later that evening, switch worked. Today in the am it worked, but failed this afternoon.
I will try to only refer to the visits made to the dealership to repair my vehicle directly relevant to this issue, though keep in mind i have been in service on 8 different occasions with my car. On may 7, 2001, i got in my vehicle to go to work in the morning, the car was dead and would not start. I called roadside assistance. My car was towed to the dealership, and i was told that the battery had a dead cell, and was replaced.
Dt: was driving to work andfirst stopped at the red light on the outside lane the green light came on ,and the car was in first gear. When trying to place car in secondgear consumer was unable to shift and felt that the vehicle did not have gears.the consumer was able to coast the vehicle off the road to the nearest turnoff lane. A police officer followed consumer as to see what was wrong.had to have vehicle towed to a dealer, and the dealer said the crossover cablebroke.no explanation as to why this happened.consumer had this repaired and hadno problems since repair. The batteries have been replaced in the consumer's vehicle.the gasket were replaced because water was getting inside the car during rainstorm.the right front motor mount cracked.

The original battery was replaced 12,000 miles ago and less than 3 months later this new battery died.chrysler & dealer refused to replace regardless of the fact that the battery lasted less than 3 months. The cause of this second battery failure likethe firstwas determined to be its closeness to the engine block and its intense aount of heat generated during normal use combined with the tropical climate of florida. I beleive that chrysler is aware of this but will not offer a protective shield to reduce the extreme heat that the battery must endure. I contacted chrysler today and the associate not only was rude but like the dealer did not offer any possible solution. The dealer claims that another replacement battery for my automobile will cost $110.00 plus tax and would not offer any further assistance.

The car idles very high and then accelerates to higher speeds without touching the accelerator pedal.there is a high acceleration boosts and spurts when first accelerating from a stopped position, causing car to lunge forward at high speeds.the car refuses to start when not used daily, such as a problem with the starter or the alternator, but no problems have been found with either parts upon inspections by a mechanic.front axles pop when turning.key is hard to disengage or remove from the ignition.brakes are constantly squealing and wear every 3-6 months regardless f how the car is driven.though it may or not be a problem for some, the fold down seats in the rear seat do not have a disengage lever from the trunk.over-head dome light does not function properly and has faulty wiring, so that even though all doors are closed the dome light never shuts off.there is constantly a fuse light that flashes in my dash, though all fuses have been checked numerous times and all are in perfect working order, though they have been replaced, the warning light still flashes.the utility outlet/cigarette lighter outlet doesn't and has not ever worked since the car was bought in 2004.fuses have been replaced multiple times, but the problem still has not been fixed.water leaks in from rain or windshield wipers causing musty odor in the car.car constantly over-heats during travel over 35-40 miles and leaks anti-freeze, though no leaks or pin holes of any kind could be found.trunk sticks making it hard to open or disengage, caused key to be broken off inside the trunk lock.
Parking my 2000 dodge neon off an ashphalt road onto gravel drive way. I was parking at normal safe speed, as i put the car into park my air bag light came on, and the car shut off. Now the horn will not blow, and steering is tighter than normal.i called the dealership where i purchased the car, and they told me it sounded like the "clock spring", and was not hazadarous to drive.i noticed there is a recall on another model of dodge van for the same part, why isn't there been one for neon? why is this not considered a safety hazaroud?now if i have to pay out of pockect expense to repair this spring before i can even get this inspected due to the horn not properly working.
There is a squeaking noise present while drivingvehicle.dealer says it's due tobrake pads and rotors.horn is out. The vehicle run hard and is loud. The front end is low when coming out on into a driveway.
Airbag light stays on andhorn is inoperative. Also, air bag may deploy unexpectedly or won't deploy in event of a crash.parts are not available.
The horn only works occasionally.was told it is a manufacturer's defect with the airbag by our mechanic. The airbag may not work in an accident.i never know when my horn will work to communicate with other drivers.

I bought the vehicle 2 months ago.since then i have put $750 into repairs and have estimates for $1000 more worth of repairs.the manufacturers problems included a rear main oil seal leak, an oil pan gasket leak, and a distributor switch leak.there was also a bent wheel, damaged tire, and bad starter.the dealer (dick morris chevrolet) will do nothing to fix it.
I have had the same thing happen to two different 2000 dodge neons. My headlights go out and then i have smoking around the steering wheel. The wiring harness to the headlights has burnt up. When i went to the dealer they said it was not a recall and my vehicle is not under warranty. It will cost about 3000 to replace.
Dealer notified.replaced air conditioner compressor and fixed broken wires. Second time wires came loose (date: 5-24-2000), dealer fixed and reluctantly accepted the charges.

Air conditioning suddenly went out from cold to hot air. Code in system is p0645, says a/c clutch relay circuit, an open or shorted condition detected in the a/c clutch relay control circuit. I bought the service manual for dodge 2000 neon. I went to the dodge dealer and they said a wire breaks on the black harness attached to the clutch relay on the air conditioner. I hit a bump in the road when the air went from cold to hot air. I checked all fuses are ok. There is no power though to the harness to the high pressure cut out switch or the low pressure cut off switch or the black connector on the air conditioner. The service manual says this may be caused from defective wiring - fuse - or relay. I can't afford to go to the dealer and have them trouble shoot the problem. Any ideas to what my problem is and how to fix it? i'm still paying my car off and already spent 400.00 to replace brake rotors etc.., now my air conditioning is faulty. Help! help!

I have been driving my car back and forth from college and running errands around town.i have a completely stocked 2000 dodge neon es.i use the headlights most of the time, even during the day, to increase visibility.one night, i was driving through my town.i smelled something burning but not thinking anything of it since i was near a rural area that could have camp fires lit.this happened about 2 months ago.then i noticed that my headlights were not working as they used to.the fog lights would turn on sometimes and other times not.i figured that it was just a switch and not a big deal so i did nothing to fix it.then my high beams stopped working about 2 weeks ago.i did a bit of research to try to determine the problem.i stumbled upon a website and read about looking at the multi-function switch.several other people have had the same problem.i just got finished checking out my car.the wiring harness that connects to the mfs is melted as has evidence of burn marks.the headlights currently work but the fog lights and high beams do not.i have taken several pictures of the melted harness and will send them to whoever i need to.i have read up on replacing the wiring harness but it is rather expensive.especially if it will melt again sometime in the near future.i believe the part number is 5183442aa based on several sources.i will be replacing this part probably on my own to save some money, especially on a part i should not have to be ordering in the first place. *jn

When you drive the car acts like it has a bad spark plug but wen you check one is full of oil its shuts off when it does that and it takes a minute to start back up.
I have a 2000 dodge neon i bought at 32,000miles.started over heating at 34,000mi.only on really hot days.now at 56,000 miles over heats all the time. Can't drive it.found out it is a blown head gasket.dealer estimates $2500 repair.(single mom, can't afford it) found out through research and mechanics that neons are prone to blown head gaskets between 30 to 60 thousand miles.mechanic explained that the gaskets chemical compounds within the metals are not compatible.but they are no longer useing those gaskets and have replaced them with new ones that are compatible.i was informed that once replaced they have not seen any reoccuring problems.this leaves me wondering why the gaskets have not been recalled.thank youbrandi

The vehicle has had the head gasket replaced on this vehicle once.the repair was done when the vehicle only had 24000 miles on it. The vehicle is now in need of pistons, that are broken in the engine.the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem.*ph

Repeated efforts by several repair facilities to locate the correct harness have failed. Vehicle has under 72,000 miles of relatively easy city driving (commute to workplace) or divided highway driving), yet most front and rear suspension system components have failed and been replaced (all struts, sway bars, etc). Transmission fluid hose or connector failed on feb 19, 2006, resulting in sudden and complete loss of fluid.

The complaints that i have for the air bags, seat belts and brakes the same problems occured during another accident on january 16, 2001.during both accidents i was pressing on my brakes and it seemed as if the car would not stop.at the time of impact the seat belts did not catch and the air bags did not deploy.the accident that occured on january 16, 2001, because the seat belt did not catch and the air bag did not deploy i was injured when my head impacted the windshield.i informed the dodge corporation of the problems and all i was told is that there is not a recall on my car.i noticed that the headgaskets began leaking approximately a month ago, i contacted the dealership about a week ago and was told it would take about $700.00 in repairs.i called several other garages for quotes on the repairs and the first thing out of the mechanics mouth was i should take it back to the dealership that there was a recall on the headgaskets.i called the dealership back and was told it did not apply to my car since mine was susposed to be a 2000 model.but since them i have found out that my car was actually manufactured in january 1999.any help that you can give me concerning my car would be greatly appreciated.thank you.

The oil was leaking from oil pan due to oil pan gasket failure.
Couple issues, faulty repair done to my car for an antifreeze leak, dealer repaired thermostat and car still leaked. Another dealer told me that source of leak was the head gasket, known issue with these vehicles, currently a class suit out on it.
Three motor mounts broke and the engine fell. This accrued twice, secondtime caused a lot of damage to engine and other components. Cause unknown.
On the dodge neon, when doing only maint for oil changes the drain plug will eventually have the shavings of the threads from the inside and would have to repair at a high cost, since this is not covered under the warranty.

The car has a manual transaxel. It jerks when shifting and when releasing foot from gas and return when driving in all gears. Acts like incorrect fuel/air mixture. Dealer claims this is normal. It is elusive but not normal. It could prove dangerous merging onto freeway.

As i approached exit 38, on interstate 93n, smoke started coming out of exhaust and by the time i reached the end of the exit the car stalled which was good because my brakes went all the way to the floor.when the car stalled the interior began filling with black smoke and i grabbed my dog by the collar and evacuated the car.seconds after, the car burst into flames which shot out from under the hood.by the time the fire trucks arrived the car was burned beyond repair, including all my personal belongings inside the car.

There has been smoke coming from behind the multiswitch on the steering column. The smell of burnt electrical components is noticed when the headlights are on. The low beam lights eventually quit and then the high beams went out while driving. The electrical wires were jiggled now giving me low beams, and no high beams. The electrical wires connecting to the multiswitch wasreplaced four years before because it had burned the connection in half. Now the multiswitch has been replaced and upon replacement the connection was examined, noticing that it was melted.
Unfortunately i ran into a driver whom was in front of me due to low visibility & bad brakes. My headlights are extremely dull & foggy. Also, whomever own the car before me had the brake vacuum replaced due to recall & ever since i've purchased the car there's been a brake problem. Such as needing a new master cylinder, new propositioning, new brake shoes, and wheel cylinder. I have receipts of all work completed. I have a one year old whom ride along and i'm highly concerned about his safety. I love the car but if it continues i will junk out my car and look to sue dodge chrysler and whomever else associated with the making of the vehicle.

Water was entering the trunk and rear floor through the brake lights. When this occurred it caused a short in the automatic door lock.this was caused by poor sealant of thebrake lights at the factory. It wasa common problem but not remedy had been found.
The contact stated while driving at night and turning the headlights on the warning light indicator appeared on the dashboard,but the headlight switch failed to activate.contact took vehicle to local mechanic and they stated the wires had melted together.due to the safety hazard the local mechanic stated he could not work on the vehicle and referred contact to a dodge dealer.

2000 dodge neon owned by ms. Jerry kimbell of haughton louisiana burst into flames after rear end collision. 2000 neon has fuel sending unit located on bottom of gas tank and poorly routed fuel lines. According to nhtsa study, cost to place fuel sending unit on top of tank and reroute fuel lines would add zero cost in production.this complaint is filed by sam goodwin, attorney for rene rivers, the daughter of the deceased.

No accidents have occurred to this vehicle.door locks do not reliably open the doors, either manually or via the electric lock button.this creates an unsafe situation whereby a person may become trapped inside the car. This has occurred on multiple occasions where the driver had to crawl into the back to exit out via the rear passenger doors.problem diagnosed by dealer as electronic door lock mechanism. This is unacceptable to allow a failure in this manner. A recall should exist.

After parking the vehicle on a slight incline withemergency brake fully engaged, vehicle rolled backwards into the street and was hit by a truck. Dealer has fixed vehicle.
When i attemped to pull out from a stoplight the vehicle wouldn't go anywhere. Almost was rearended by a tractor trailer being that i was trying to move and my foot was not on the brake to engage the brake light.... Took a few seconds to realize it wasn't going to move and put my four ways on. This was at an intersection where the speed limit is 45. Vehicle finally engaged but was leaking trans fluid. Got it home in 1st gear and now the car is constantly engaged in drive. When started in park the car lurches forward. The first time i started it after getting it home i almost ran over the person looking under the hood. Odd thing is that there is still fluid in the trans... At add but still there and the leak has stopped. Trans is still acting like it did the day it failed though.
Motor mounts to a doge neon has been wearing out every two years. They should last the use of the car i>e 30 yrs. Has cause the transmission to collapse. Causing the car to be a danger to the person driving and the people who are walking in the way of a car thatcannot stop.

Automatic transmission does not lock into park if indicator is stopped between the park and reverselocations. The car is actually in neutral, but the indicator displays "park". Car will roll in this in this position.this has been tested in five other neons and they all portray this characteristic. This defect caused an accident which injured my wife and daughter, and resulted in $3000 worth of repairs to vehicle.as my wife exited vehicle it began to roll away, with my daughter in her carseat in the rear seat of vehicle.the vehicle collided with a powerline pole, trapping my daughter inside. I am writing this on behalf of my elderly mother who is in the hospital undergoing medical treatment for injuries she received when her car dropped into reverse from park while she was getting items out of the trunk with the engine running.she was pinned under the car for about 15 minutes before a family member found her and moved the car off her. She has multiple abrasions, some stitches, and is undergoing testing for internal injuries.
I have had trouble with the transmmition since i bought the car in 2000. It shifs hard and at times seems to miss 2nd gear. The carwas still under warrenty so dodge would not autherize monday chev. (who i bought it from)to do the repaires. The first repair was an adjustment, second was a modual change out and so was the 3rd repair. On the fourth time of taking the car to to one of the dodge dealers they said they "did a compleat overhaul of the transmmition". At this time i am still having troouble with the shifting. The brakes did not work this morning and the throutal stuck open when i steped on the gas.the car is no longer under warenty. There was a recall in july 2001on the hose to the brake each time i contacted archer dodge they told me they did not have the part in to make the repair. I now have a car that needs to go into the shop again and i am sure this has someething to do with the brake system.

Occasionally when putting driver side window down, all gauges go up and down, and there is a loud chimming noise.transmission went @ 50,000 mi. Chrysler paid half at dealerships request, after car was serviced, i sent chrysler a letter explaining all of my problems, and response was: dealership handled the transmission problem and chrysler was not willing to help me, and they also informed me that the dealership told them that i never reported the problem with the gauges (this is because i lived in another location and took my car to a 5 star dealership in ct, and they could not find the problem).oil leaking, (was first informed of this when the dealership was fixing the transmission problem) there is now a puddle of oil resting in the lower part of the engine, car stalled at light, very strong fumes upon starting and while driving, and car seems to be shifting late...contacted dealership and made appt. For 8-15-02.also, rear brakes seem to lock up and make alot of noise, front brakes squeal.thank you.

Fitting in bottom of radiator popped out causing transmission fluid to leak out.replaced radiator and 3 months later had to have transmission fixed.at the time of the radiator malfunction the car had 34,000 miles on it.at the time of the transmission failure, the car had 35,000 miles on it.the warranty period ended january 1, 2003.the failure of the radiator happened in the middle of march, 2003. Daimler chrysler only paid $250.00 to have radiator replaced.i was told by the general manager of a 5-star chrysler dealership that the transmission could not have been harmed at the time the radiator failed.it cost me $1251.00 to have my transmission fixed. The second gear band was in pieces in the transmission.
Make:dodgemodel:neontype:passenger caryear:2000summary: as noted in other complaints, with any heavy rainfall, the floor in the back seats fills with water (up to an inch or more). Appears to be entering through the trunk area, as the spare tire well also fills with water. Using sponges and a shopvac to soak up the water and then leaving windows open to dry it out is my only remedy to the moisture and odor. This has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased in 2001. The dealer is of no help because (mercifully for others) that deal went bankrupt a year after purchase.i have a litany of other concerns with the 2000 neon. I've had to replace the engine (chrysler refused to honor warranty - partly a problem with records as the dealership of purchase/initial maintenance has gone out of business), each time i start the car, the fuse warning light comes on, though all fuses have been checked and look ok.an electrical harness has failed and as a result i have no functioning interior dome lights or exterior backup lights. Repeated efforts by several repair facilities to locate the correct harness have failed. Vehicle has under 72,000 miles of relatively easy city driving (commute to workplace) or divided highway driving), yet most front and rear suspension system components have failed and been replaced (all struts, sway bars, etc). Transmission fluid hose or connector failed on feb 19, 2006, resulting in sudden and complete loss of fluid.
Transmission cooling line connector toradiator have popped out and caused fluid to leak.dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information on this matter.
See complaint10053281 for initial back round info. Radiator replaced due to coolant transmission blow-out. That cost me$500. Then when the 5 star dealer tested the car, the transmission failed. Dealer wanted 600 just to investigate and said that it could cost as much as $2,500 addl to replace.i just read about complaint 10039597 with same problem. It sounds like there is a mfg defect that chrysler is not owning up to. I called chrysler about this and they were not going to do anything about this because i did not buy extended coverage. I bought my 2000 dodge neon used in 2002 from reiliable chevrolet in springfield, mo.the car had aprox 48,000 miles on it.after owning it for a few weeks, i noticed a knocking sound whenever the car was in neutral.when the clutch was depressed the knocking sound went away.i took it to central dodge (my 5 star dealer) which told me that it was the throw out bearing.after having them fix it, which only cost me $100 because i bought the extended warrenty, the noise started again, just after a couple weeks.
On numerous instances my clutch would stick, after depressing one more time it was released.this continued, until finally it remained stuck with me in the middle of an intersection.this condition then required a full replacement of the clutch system, although it was the faulty clutch cable which caused the condition.the cable consistently folded upon itself, as i am told, and was kinking up in the engine.i don't agree that a vehicle that is only a few years old and unfortunately just out of warranty should be experiencing such costly or dangerous problems.
Dt: was driving to work andfirst stopped at the red light on the outside lane the green light came on ,and the car was in first gear. When trying to place car in secondgear consumer was unable to shift and felt that the vehicle did not have gears.the consumer was able to coast the vehicle off the road to the nearest turnoff lane. A police officer followed consumer as to see what was wrong.had to have vehicle towed to a dealer, and the dealer said the crossover cablebroke.no explanation as to why this happened.consumer had this repaired and hadno problems since repair. The batteries have been replaced in the consumer's vehicle.the gasket were replaced because water was getting inside the car during rainstorm.the right front motor mount cracked.
I have a 2000 dodge neon i bought at 32,000miles.started over heating at 34,000mi.only on really hot days.now at 56,000 miles over heats all the time. Can't drive it.found out it is a blown head gasket.dealer estimates $2500 repair.(single mom, can't afford it) found out through research and mechanics that neons are prone to blown head gaskets between 30 to 60 thousand miles.mechanic explained that the gaskets chemical compounds within the metals are not compatible.but they are no longer useing those gaskets and have replaced them with new ones that are compatible.i was informed that once replaced they have not seen any reoccuring problems.this leaves me wondering why the gaskets have not been recalled.thank youbrandi
Front crash at 45 mph , seatbelt did not restrain consumer, hit her head on steering wheel.
The contact owns a 2000 dodge neon. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, the anti-lock braking system failed and caused her to crash into the rear of another vehicle. The seat belts did not properly restrain and the air bags did not deploy.the contact and a passenger were reported injured and transported to the hospital via ambulance.the police were notified and a police report was filed. The vehicle was severely damaged and towed to the contact's residence.the manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised that there was an open recall on the vehicle for the brakes (nhtsa campaign id number:01v154000-service brakes, hydraulic: power assist: vacuum) but not for the seat belt and air bags. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 129,000.
When sliding on ice i went into the ditch at approx 30 mph.the vehicle picked up speed during the slide.the ditch was steep but narrow.my front end hit the other side of the ditch causing $6000 front end damage.neither passenger or driver side air bag deployed!my seatbelt did not latch!!my wrists impacted the dash leaving my nailpolish on the stereo.my chest impacted the steering wheel.i could not lift my baby for a very long time...a year. I couldn't tie my 6 childrens shoes without pain for over two years.i still have moderate to severe pain attacks!i still do not have full function of my right wrist and typing this irritates it like crazy.my elbow was out of place.my ribs are now permanently out of place and there are injuries to my back and neck.my right side of my face goes numb and i suffer severe and frequent headaches.i am now severely depressed.i used to be an rn.i have a weight limit of 2-10 pounds with no consistent use of my right arm allowed.this is now over 4 years since my accident.nothing was done for me.i couldn't work and had to suffer the consequences of turning my car back into the dealer.i just paid the judgment from chrysler off this year.i am still upset to see so very many people stillbeing injured and chrysler off free.i wish i had an attorney willing to sue their pants off for the life changes they have given me.i previously wore a seatbelt religiously.i'm 39 now and i promise i will never wear one again since being strangled with chrysler's belt.dealer did nothing to remedy.said they had no way to check these problems and found nothing wrong with the seatbelt.disgusting!this vehicle only had 4500 miles on it and i bought it brand new.this so call recall took place in april 1999.my purchase was september 1999.
Rear seat belts do not lock up at all and have 3 other buddies that the same make and model diffrent years do the same. Its not safe for a 4 year old to be in a booster seat in the rear seat because of both of seat belts will not lock up at all. And went to dealier ship and they could not tell me why they dont lock up and told me to call coustmer line and tell them but no answare if it going on with more than one and its a saftey hasared should be a recall on the car.....

Rear belt loses tension when you install a baby carseat after pulling the shoulder belt in order to create tension on the lapbelt to hold the carseat tight. What happens is that there is a plastic piece that goes in the buckle connector, and when you applypressure it breaks appart, giving no tension to the belt and the car seat can easily move forward. Please look at this pictures i took to show you clearly ww.vegena.net/jpg/neon1.jpg , www.vegena.net/jpg/neon2.jpg and ....neon3.jpg , neon4.jpg, i fixed it temporaly by putting together the 2 plastic pieces and applying soft pressure so that they don't break loose. I applied this kind of "normal" pressure to my dodge caravan and the belt tightedgreat. My suggestion is to replace the buckle connector with the same kind that the caravan 1997 uses. Thanks

I believe this car is a lemon!i have had it in to the dealership 3 times for the driver seat tracks not functioning properly, they don't move back all the way.it now needs to go back a fourth time because it will not engage properly and i am afraid it will let go and fly backwards while i am driving.the steering wheel shakes back and forth as if someone is moving it left to right.the dealership will not take responsibility for this and states that is for the tire mfg. To fix, however my mechanic beleives the tires are fine.

Unfortunately i ran into a driver whom was in front of me due to low visibility & bad brakes. My headlights are extremely dull & foggy. Also, whomever own the car before me had the brake vacuum replaced due to recall & ever since i've purchased the car there's been a brake problem. Such as needing a new master cylinder, new propositioning, new brake shoes, and wheel cylinder. I have receipts of all work completed. I have a one year old whom ride along and i'm highly concerned about his safety. I brought my car in october of 99 and i've been through 11 brand new tires for some unexplained reason i keep having blowouts all the treads are intact but the sides of the tires end up with chunks missing from them. I was driving in the city doing about 30 when i felt my car pulling away from me and i could barley control it so i pulled over to check it out n there were 2 chunks missing out fot the outer side of the tire from it blowing out and the inner side of the tire looked like someone took a can opener to it. Driving in our car we experienced a loud noise from the right rear of the car, took it to our local goodyear mechanic, he stated and showed me that the calipers were not funcitioning correctly in the rear, both inboard brake pads were metal to metal while the outboard pads were like new.thankfully we heard the noise so a brake failure did not occur.upon taking it to the dealer they stated this was abnormal and a problem, but not covered under warranty, no replacement or service to the calipers were made.i am now waiting for it to prematurely wear out again.the dealer exclaimed that he had never seen a car wear out that quickly on one side of the pads.i believe it is a caliper failure, confirmed by the goodyear service person.

I leased a 2000 dodge neon for 4 years. Over the course of the lease, i had continued trouble with rear brake noise (squealing), and took it in for service 3 times, and was told there was nothing wrong with the brakes. When i returned the vehicle at the end of the lease, i was billed $150 to fix the squealing rear brakes. It was something about the brakes and the car idling up to high and i am having problems with that. When i push my brakes it fills like it is going to take off by itself. Whenever it rains, i have a lot of water on the back floorboards and trunk.sometimes it's about an inch or two high.we've tried numerous ways to control it or even to get it dry so that it would not mildew.it does not work and it smells really bad now. It seems to be a factory problem and will try to get dealer to fix.seems like many people have not been successful doing that but more complains from people someday may help.

When trying to place car in secondgear consumer was unable to shift and felt that the vehicle did not have gears.the consumer was able to coast the vehicle off the road to the nearest turnoff lane. A police officer followed consumer as to see what was wrong.had to have vehicle towed to a dealer, and the dealer said the crossover cablebroke.no explanation as to why this happened.consumer had this repaired and hadno problems since repair. The batteries have been replaced in the consumer's vehicle.the gasket were replaced because water was getting inside the car during rainstorm.the right front motor mount cracked.
As many others have reported, whenever there is a heavy rainfall the floors in the rear of the car fill with water. It is so bad that now it filters over into the front seats. I have been haivng this problems for a few years but was unaware that there were others with the same issue. Dealers and auto mechanics have not been successful in finding the source of the leak.

Motor mounts to a doge neon has been wearing out every two years. They should last the use of the car i>e 30 yrs. Has cause the transmission to collapse. Causing the car to be a danger to the person driving and the people who are walking in the way of a car thatcannot stop.
I was driving through a enter section and i hit a slight bump and it broke my sub frame. When i went to look at it the whole right side of the sub frame was rusted out.

As with a multitude of other owners of this vehicle, whenever there is a rain (heavy or light), water leaks into the interior of the car (most likely through the trunk, possibly around the taillight or another hard to diagnose area). The water will fill up the spare tire well and pool there, then move under the back seats and the back seat floors where again the water pools and soaks into the lining/cushions/interior. All of this water causes both structural damage to the body of the car (rust and other issues), produces mildew and mold in the interior of the vehicle (a potential health hazard), and creates highly humid and moist environment inside the car. The leak and water have also affected the reverse/backup lighting (another hazard) and rusted parts of the spare tire well. In addition the high humidity results in interior windows being not just fogged but having a worrisome amount of condensation that must be removed before driving safely. Numerous attempts have been made to "seal" the leak in the trunk to no avail. A quick internet search for this problems reveals hundreds and hundreds of people with the exact same issue of the leak. Dodge has never addressed this issue with consumers.

I feel this car has a design problem. It is too low in the front and too high in the rear. The driver cannot see the hood or trunk.you must drive by instinct instead of sight. (unsafe condition) there is only 6 inches of clearance between the road and a framebehind the front bumper. It hits bumper type curbs in parking lots and any high spots on the road.. And if you are on a road under a paving job( there are many in my area) and hit a sewer sticking up there would be major damage or possibly the car would pole vault on to its roof it almost happened to me. I was told by the dealer and chrysler that the vehicle was normal and it just takes getting used to. Maybe so but my wife feels it is a very unsafe car and she is afraid to drive it. Who ever the lady was that called me from chrysler said she had the same car and the same problem with not being able to see when backing up and not being able to see the hood when going forward.i feel this is an unsafe automobile.
Turnedinto parking lot when car suddenly made horrible banging-type noise and suddenly stopped. Black smoke poured out of front of car and car wouldn't move. When mechanic examined vehicle, it was discovered the frame had rusted through and broke. My son was driving his 2000 dodge neon and the sub frame broke and i look under the car the hole frame was rusted out he can not afford to fix the car where glad that he was not on the free way when it happen is there a recall where he can get this fix i been looking at neons and they all see to be rusted out by looking at the body you would think the sub frame wouldnot be like that.

I believe this car is a lemon!i have had it in to the dealership 3 times for the driver seat tracks not functioning properly, they don't move back all the way.it now needs to go back a fourth time because it will not engage properly and i am afraid it will let go and fly backwards while i am driving.the steering wheel shakes back and forth as if someone is moving it left to right.the dealership will not take responsibility for this and states that is for the tire mfg. To fix, however my mechanic beleives the tires are fine.

Since that time when ever we have heavy rainfall water leaks in on the passenger side coming in through the heating vent . All basis have been covered concerning the windshield replacement. We thought it was an improper windshield installment but it is not.we took it to the dealership where we bought it and they cleaned out the water drain for the heater but since then we had a heavy rainfall and it still continues to leak . Obviously they have no idea what the problem is and at the same time im getting more and more frustrated about this.

The contact owns a 2000 dodge neon.while driving in the center lane at 40 mph, the accelerator pedal moved all the way to the left and underneath the brake pedal.this prevented the vehicle from accelerating.the contact could not depress the brake pedal because it would press down on the accelerator pedal as well.she applied the emergency brake and was able to pull the vehicle over until the speed completely slowed down and the vehicle came to a stop.the contact tied a rope from the accelerator pedal to the middle console, which would allow the vehicle to accelerate when the rope was pulled.the dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty.the vehicle was taken to a repair shop and they stated that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect.the dealer stated that she would be responsible for the failure.the contact called the manufacturer and they replaced the vehicle for free; however, she believes a recall should be issued.the current and failure mileages were 150,000.updated 3/19/09 updated 03/23/09.

While driving on the highway with the cruise control set and engaged, i was forced to depress the brakes. The cruise control did not disengage, nor was i able to turn it off via the buttons on the steering wheel. I came within 5 feet of rear-ending another vehicle when we were traveling at speeds above 55 mph. If i did not keep the brakes depressed, the cruise control tried to bring the vehicle up to the set point. After about five minutes, the cruise control shut itself off automatically. Subsequent times the on/off switch has worked on the cruise control, but it does not disengage when the brake pedal is depressed. I have taken the vehicle into a dealership detailing the problem to fix it. They charged me for a diagnostic evaluation and have found that there is a bad servo. Being in the detroit area, with the recent ford recalls for failing cruise control switches, i was immediately and still am very worried.
Car runs very rough.idles rough.when shifting gears car "jerks" excessivly.when trying to maintain the car at a steady speed the car "rocks and jerks"until acceleration.car does not want to stay running.when taking off from a stop the car will start to take off and die.very dangerous to try to cross an intersecion.the check engine light comes on and will stay on for days at a time and then go off and not come on far an extended period of time.
Bought car from father in law, he bought the car new. Front end crash 2003 may, 4783.45 in damage, air bag did not deploy at 40mph !!!i had car repaired by non chrysler garage as per advice of erie insurance co.erie wont cover because they say its chrysler's problem, chrysler says its my problem because work was done at non daimler chrysler garage and they were rude and hung up on me!erie told me to have diagnostic check done on it becuz in aug 03 the air bag lite started to come on and horn wont work. I had the check done and they said clockspring needs replaced.not erie or chrysler will fix.
As with a multitude of other owners of this vehicle, whenever there is a rain (heavy or light), water leaks into the interior of the car (most likely through the trunk, possibly around the taillight or another hard to diagnose area). The water will fill up the spare tire well and pool there, then move under the back seats and the back seat floors where again the water pools and soaks into the lining/cushions/interior. All of this water causes both structural damage to the body of the car (rust and other issues), produces mildew and mold in the interior of the vehicle (a potential health hazard), and creates highly humid and moist environment inside the car. The leak and water have also affected the reverse/backup lighting (another hazard) and rusted parts of the spare tire well. In addition the high humidity results in interior windows being not just fogged but having a worrisome amount of condensation that must be removed before driving safely. Numerous attempts have been made to "seal" the leak in the trunk to no avail. A quick internet search for this problems reveals hundreds and hundreds of people with the exact same issue of the leak. Dodge has never addressed this issue with consumers.
Unfortunately i ran into a driver whom was in front of me due to low visibility & bad brakes. My headlights are extremely dull & foggy. Also, whomever own the car before me had the brake vacuum replaced due to recall & ever since i've purchased the car there's been a brake problem. Such as needing a new master cylinder, new propositioning, new brake shoes, and wheel cylinder. I have receipts of all work completed. I have a one year old whom ride along and i'm highly concerned about his safety. I love the car but if it continues i will junk out my car and look to sue dodge chrysler and whomever else associated with the making of the vehicle.
When entering vehicle after a rainy night there would be condensation in and a musty odor present invehicle.driver couldn't use a/c in summer time due to odors. Dealer has seen vehicle 7 times, and claimedproblem didn't exist.
When the rear window defroster was activated smoke came from the rear windshield area and then the windshield exploded. *nlm
I have a 2000 dodge neon. There is something wrong in with the venting system. At time it will quit blowing air out of the vent even though i can here the blower fan blowing. There is excessive moisture in the system. Sometimes when i turn on the it blows out alot of mousture. It stops in the summer with the ac on and in the winter. When i try to use the vents it blows out more moisture. The side windows and rear will not defrost.

Vehicle was going 35mph on dry road. Front air bags did not deploy upon impact consumer's vehicle hit two vehicles, but only one head on. Front airbags on both sides did not deploy. Dealer and manufacturer were notified but the vehicle was totaled. The consumer's nose was severed from the steering wheel due to the air bag not deploying. Consumer states r/r seat belt retractor button on belt was broken and installed, also left front seat belt was replaced, and sun roof molding was loose and falls on consumer?s head. *yd
Occasionally when putting driver side window down, all gauges go up and down, and there is a loud chimming noise.transmission went @ 50,000 mi. Chrysler paid half at dealerships request, after car was serviced, i sent chrysler a letter explaining all of my problems, and response was: dealership handled the transmission problem and chrysler was not willing to help me, and they also informed me that the dealership told them that i never reported the problem with the gauges (this is because i lived in another location and took my car to a 5 star dealership in ct, and they could not find the problem).oil leaking, (was first informed of this when the dealership was fixing the transmission problem) there is now a puddle of oil resting in the lower part of the engine, car stalled at light, very strong fumes upon starting and while driving, and car seems to be shifting late...contacted dealership and made appt. For 8-15-02.also, rear brakes seem to lock up and make alot of noise, front brakes squeal.thank you.

Windshield wipers activate when turn signal is used.windshield wipers will then not shut off unless ignition is turned off.
I bought the vehicle 2 months ago.since then i have put $750 into repairs and have estimates for $1000 more worth of repairs.the manufacturers problems included a rear main oil seal leak, an oil pan gasket leak, and a distributor switch leak.there was also a bent wheel, damaged tire, and bad starter.the dealer (dick morris chevrolet) will do nothing to fix it.
Clearcoat shows signs of deteriorating.wheels replaced once after app. 6 mo. New wheels are doing the same.
Three of the studs broke while consumer was changing the tire.
The thread on the wheel studs gets shredded, due to corrosion.this is caused by a design flaw in the crown covers,which allows moisture and road salt to get into the thread, and seize up the lug nuts. Consequently when the tires are removed or rotated the thread strips,per an engineer.
4 (out of 5) broken lug studs on one wheel.one lug nut/stud was already broken when going to change pads/rotor.removing remaining 4 lugs, 3 of them broke off (almost as if they were cross threaded).*la
