Consumer states the air bag light stays on.

Air bags deployed unexpectedly while vehicle was parked at the shop. Consumer will contact manufacturer.

There is a little shelf on the right side of instrument panel, and had a few coins on that shelf. While making a right turn, the coins fell behind the steering column and the airbag light came on, indicating a problem with the airbag system.an hour later, the airbag light came off.dealer said if the coins did fall behind the column, and itwaspossible the airbag may have deployed ifthe coins hit a sensor.please provide further information.

While driving at 30 mph the vehicle was involved in a frontal collision but none of the air bag deployed upon impact.as a result the driver sustained head injuries.*nlm

Air bag failure.

Head on collision with no deployment of air bags.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

While trying to turn left, consumer hit another driver. Upon impact, none of the airbags deployed. Fornt of the car was damaged real badly.

Hit into back of another car going 35 mph brakes falied and air bags did not deploy.

Coming out of driveway driver made anormal stop and brakes completely faile/d, vehicle lost control , resulting in a collision. Seat belts did not tighten, and dual airbags did not deploy.vehicle was totaled.

My wife hit a tree head-on going approx. 30 mph.she suffered injuries to her face, neck, back, wrist and knee.airbag did not deploy.contacted chrysler, they picked-up the car and performed diagnostic evaluation from the computer and sent a letter stating the airbag was not defective.i find it hard to believe that the airbag was not defective as the impact and damage to the vehicle is significant.

We would like to find out why the air bags did not deploy and protect the loved ones.

Consumer was drinving on road at approximately 25 mphwhen anothervehicle turned in front, causing consumer to hit the other vehicle onpassenger's side.air bags did not deploy. Dealernotified.

I ran directly into an abandoned car that i did not see (it was dark outside).the impact to the other car was strong because my daughter's glasses flew off of her face.the impact was mainly on the right front side which if she did not have her seatbelt on, could have caused her to hit the windshield.we went to the emergency service at the hospital and i found out at that time that she had a pain in her neck for a very short period of time directly after the accident, but it left.i am concerned about why the airbags did not deploy.

Vehicle was hit head-on. Upon impactairbags did not deploy, resulting in injury. Manufacturer will be notified.consumer was injured in accident, the injuries sustained may last the rest of her life.

According to police consumer was driving 40mph when she had a blackout and rearended another vehicle. Upon impact, driver's & passenger's air bags failed to deploy.seat belt was in use at time. Driver was injured, receiving cuts on head & bruises.

In two separate head-on collisions on may and november 2000 both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Consumer contacted dealership to see if vehicle was included inrecall 98v049000,and was informed thatthisvehicle was not included in recall due to vin. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

No deployment of driver and passenger side air bag during accident caused left wrist injuries to the passenger of the vehicle.nlm

Consumerwas involved in front end collision and air bags did not deploy, consumer 's wife received some minor injuries.

Vehicle was in a minor collision.hit another car in rear at less than 15mph.air bags deployed hitting driver.very little front end damage.i do not believe that the air bags should have deployed, and i am concerned for our employees safety.this is the second time we have had an intrepid deploy air bags at under 15mph.

Air bag warning light comes on and off when driving. This problem occurs intermittently. The consumer feels that the failure is consistent with a recall he received on his 1999 dodge caravan.

While drivingdriver/passenger side air bags inadvertently deployed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Repairs were done to the engine on 3 occasions, rotors 2 occasions, brakes 1 occasion, control arms (suspension) 1 occasion, steering 1 occasion, & electrical. Although i only have 54,000 miles on my car and the engine has been replaced, the dealership refuses to fix the ongoing engine problems. The dealership manager, rod harris, admits it a lifter ticking but insists that it is normal.chrysler gave me an "added care service contract" that is good through 6/26/04 and to 75,000 miles. Plan code is ad675h. They refuse to fix my car.this is the second time, after the first three attempts to fix it, i have been to the dealership. I filed a complaint with chrysler on 1/12/04. Also note they still have my vehicle today 1/12/04 because the transmission failed. It's been in service for 5 days.transmission failed while i was driving on 1/7/04. I am concerned with the safety of the vehicle and the engine failing now with my 10 month old daughter. *la

Headlights will turn on and off intermittently while driving , or will turn on by themselves without the key in ignition. My mechanic have replaced 3 headlight switches but its not working. Also the car has major electrical problems from internal lamps to headlights. I have read lot of review from other users. I can file a lawsuit with user consumers if i have to against dodge. This thing is very annoying and dodge should pay for this.

Vehicle experiences intermittent interior light flashing or they remain on due to possible electrical failure, unable to determine cause. Mjs

Ltr fm travis phillips (ky) owner of a 1998 dodge chrysler intrepid reporting defective engine, window off track writer believes vehicle should be recalled reply to the fort wright, ky district office.*phthe vehicle engine blew while the consumer's wife was driving 65 mph.there was no warning prior to this incident.the consumer indicated that he had the oil changed every 3000 miles and that the oil was just changed prior to the engine failure.the vehicles lights flickered, the windows came off the track when putting them up or down.the seals around the doors fell off.the air/heat only worked when on high.the starter failed.

October, 2002 and july, 2003.had to replace relay.lights inside were blinking occasionally, then transmission would not shift out of first gear, all electric was out.it's now may, 2004 and the lights are beginning to blink again.i'm afraid the same thing is going to happen.

Vehicle fire due to electrical failure, consumer suffered from smoke inhalation.*mjs

I believe my vehicle overall is defective.we purchased this vehicle new and have had nothing but problems with it.had to replace rocker arms and engine at 51,000 miles.have since replaced computer, transmission, intake manifold, cooling system, catalytic converter and now have a "check engine" light on again with codes relating to cooling and the catalytic converter.this vehicle is just an accident waiting to happen. Who knows what will go wrong with it next.

Starter went out.

Vehicle hadvibration in the motor and transmission did not shift gears correctly. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 6 times, but was told by dealer that vehicle was fine, and that it was normal characteristic of vehicle. Cause was unknown. Radiator fan motor failed. Motor window regulator failed. Gearshift control faied.rear strut assembly failed.windshield wiper blade and windshieled pivot carrier assembly failed.a/c evaporator coil failed. Instrument panel trim failed.battery failed.door weather strip failed.

Dt: contact owns a 1998 dodge intrepid.the contact stated the main battery harness corroded, forcing thecontact to replace the batteryevery year.the vehicle will stall unexpectedly at any given point while traveling at any speed, and the battery will have to be replaced.the service dealer replaced the cable atconsumer's expense.the service dealer and the manufacturer stated that it was not a safety defect within the vehicle and that was why they would not cover the cost of the repair.the contact stated thishappened sincepurchasing the vehicle.the consumerhad the battery replaced five times under warranty, therefore, the consumer did not have to cover this expense.previously, when the car would have this problem the service dealer would only clean the cables to the battery, and this would remedy the problem for about six months.

We have a dodge intrepid with the 2.7 motor burning oil a quart a week since we bought the car in 2000 went to the dealer they say it was a leak, low and behold it still burning the oil. Been to dealer several times they say its normal it had 78,000 when we got it, now has over 103,000 still adding oil weekly, also had to replace the entire fan assembly, the thermostat ,also problems with the power window tracks causing the windows not to close properly, tension pulley had to be replaced also the water pump, starter,(note all dealer parts so it isn't cheap to fix)battery cables rotted outdodge should do or offer something to help fix or rectify all these motor problems but are they are to cheap in my mind.

The ignition lock on this vehicle will surrender the key in any position. Though the dealer has replaced both a push rod in the shifter and the shifter itself per chrysler recall campaign c45, the key continues to come out of the lock in the acc, off, run, and start positions. The dealer's service department suggested the fault is in the lock cylinder, though that was not covered under recall campaign c45 and was not replaced. Note that the cylinder will not turn to the lock or acc position without the shifters being in park and the shifter also will not come out of the park position with the lock cylinder in the lock or acc position nor has either of the above failures ever occurred in this vehicle. The problem with the key coming out however was already occurring by the time the recall notice was first received but the vehicle was just now taken to the dealer for servicing due to a lack of alternate transportation and scheduling conflicts.

Vehicle was repaired for ignition problems and intermittent interior lights flickering.ignition switch and dimmer light switch replaced.ignition is still sporadic and vehicle shuts off when in drive(also sporadic).dealership aware of problem but unable to repair/locate problem despite charging for repairs to fix problem.

While driving at any speedvehicle intermittently stalls.after sitting for a few minutes vehicle will start as if nothing has happened. As of october 2003, the consumer had to sit 25 minutes in a parking lot waiting for the vehicle to start. It continued to stall on her driving down the road twice. Consumer questioned why no one could give her an answer as to why this keeps happening and why there's not a recall. In addition, consumer decided to write every time she has a problem with her vehicle because she noticed it wasn't just her vehicle having problems.*ph

Dt:caller got recall letter on trans axle floor shifter ignition/park interlock system #c45. Caller took it to dealer, dealer said they did the recall work, but the caller said it was not fixed. She said she coudn't shift it without a key and she could take the key out while it isin gear. Manufacturer said the work was done, and the problem was something else . They offered no help. Caller said problem is listed on the recall letter but they will not fix it. Caller said one time she forgot to put it in park andtook the key out and the car rolled away. She was able to stop the car.

Car stalls at speeds in excess of 60 mph.check engine light flashes about 5 times and vehicle experiences an immediate loss of acceleration ability.car coasts to a near stop and stalls completely locking the steering wheel.while engine is hot vehicle will not start.cruise control light and oil light remain on longer than any other dashboard lights.vehicle starts again only after sitting for hours.vehicle will only start when it is cold.at highway speeds this has happened twice in the last two weeks.vehicle stores no codes for mechanic to diagnose problem.

Consumer was entering freeway at 40mph and consumer's vehicle cut off & was not able to pull over because of the flow of traffic.vehicle always stalled if air conditionerwas onover a period of time.

Consumer, will provide more informationon the faulty ignition switch. The vehicle would start but other electrical components would not work including the air bag, fan and power windows.

Consumer stated that it will be hard to start the vehicle and they will have to try numerous times before the vehicle will start. Dealer notified.ts

Consumer removed key from ignition while vehicle was still in drive, vehicle then proceeded to roll back, resulting in a collision.

The engine is failing, smoking.upon investigation, it has been found that this is common in 2.7 liter vehciles of this model.in other words, this engine is a lemon.i have also noted that the airconditioning has failed and i will also have to have this repaired.there is also a problem with the ignition that i haven't figure out yet.the power mirror on the driver's side doesn't work and the speaker system has little to be desired.the 3.2 liter engines fair much better after talking with many mechanics, who consequentially are surprised there hasn't been a recall on the 2.7 liter 1998 engines.

My car is only 2 years old and should not be having starter trouble. My mechanic has contacted the dealer for the part and the gentleman that her spoke with told him that it was a design flaw.i don't feel that i should be responsible to pay forproduct defects. My mechanic told me that the dodge dealer told him that starters for dodge are on national back-order.over 350 orders. That makes me very uncomfortable.please respond.

Driving down interstate65mph1998 dodge intrepidblewupso hard it even broke the starter offthe transmissionbell hausing.this was a nice cleantaken care of carbut the moters are junk and chrysler said tuff '!@#$% we dont care . Chrysler should have to fix every one of these were all bad.

Wheels are rusting on outside. Surface rust.dodge states this is normal wear and tear.steering wheel is peeling away.dodge says this is normal wear and tear.starter is too close to the muffler without heat shield. Power windows shorted out internally, causing fuse breaker to be to hot to touch.. Driver side mirror just cracked.dealer said it may be a flaw.they have had to replace several for this reason.the glass is not available you must be complete assembly.the car is one year and five months old and is coming apart.dealer will not fix because it is out of warranty.all repairs paid for out of pocket.

Wiring harness was installed with wires that are too short, possibly causing vehicle not to start and/or to shake when it does start.also windows won't roll down at times.dealer replaced faulty starter. But not willing to do anything further because vehicle is over 36,000 miles.extended warranty was purchased....

Every time i close the car door i recive a electrical shock.i have cloth seats i have asked more than 100 other intrepid owners and they say the same thing (i work at a parking garage)my concern is for owners who have heart pacemakers and do not know what is happening.

Dt: the contacttook vehicle to a mechanic to have a coil pack replaced. The mechanic said he let the vehicle run for approximately 20 minutes thenit was ready to be driven. . all of a sudden vehicle caught on fire under the hood. The fire department was called, they extinguished the fire. The cause of the firewas suspected to be electrical.

Vehicle caught on fire from under the hood while idling and parking on the driveway. The local fire department arrived to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire was still undetermined. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified.

A fire inengine compartment after parking.local fire department arrived and extinguishedfire. Dealer / manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

Headlights will turn on and off intermittently while driving , orwill turn on by themselves without the key in ignition. Dealer had vehicle 3 times, and could not duplicate defect.

Since buying the vehicle in 1998, i have experienced issue with:electrical interior and exterior lights going on and off while driving (dealer has not been able to locate problem)rack and pinion had to replace at 36,000 milesi have to replace the brakes every year, they constantly are making a grinding noise.have had to replace power window mechanism on driver side when first bought vehicle, now the automatic power down on drive side is not working as well as not being able to use power unlock and lock for rear driver passenger door.automatic transmission leak from hose, have had to replace hose.

While driving at 35 mph a fire started onpassenger's side under the dash. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

On the air conditioning problem, the bearings in the tension pulley went bad and it shreaded the serpentine belt which we had just replaced along with the entire new engine.about the transmission.a sensor went bad and the car would not shift out of first gear unless the car was stopped and the ignition turned off.after that, as soon as we brought the car to a stop it would again fail to shift out of first when re-accelerating.the engine is the big problem.the oil light came on.my wife pulled over immediately.but the engine quit before she could even get the car stopped.had it towed to a chrysler dealership.the said it had no oil.we changed oil in this car like clockwork.every 3000 miles and we have receipts to prove it.there was no oil leaking.and no blue exhaust smoke indicating it was burning up inside the motor.we suspected build up of engine sludge but dealership disposed of old motor before we could see it.chrysler corporations customer service center treated us terribly.very rude and disrespectful.they said engine failure due to lack of maintenance.we had similar problem with our previous vehicle.a dodge ram that was building up sludge.it was under warranty and we received a new engine.after doing extensive on-line research, i have discovered that this is a very typical problem.and chrysler maintains a cavalier attitude about it.they seem to be telling everyone that it is not a big problem and that each case is isolated.this cost us over $4000.00.and now we can't sell the car.i'm wondering when the new motor will go.it now has 63000 miles.sorry for the long letter, but, i wanted to give you as many details as possible.thank you.ronald w. While driving engine blew out prematurely. Vehicle made a loud clanking noise and then it completely failed. The consumer was told the engine was shot.*tc

While backing out ofa driveway vehicle stalled. After numerous attemptsvehicle restarted.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Starter went out.

Consumer stated vehicle burned oil excessively.

While driving at 35 mph consumer stopped to make a left turn and the check engine light came on. Then, vehicle stalled , and would not restart.once the vehicle was restarted there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. Vehicle was towed to a mechanic's shop, who determined that a new engine was needed.engine was replaced by the dealer.*la

I bought this car used with about 100,000 miles for $2,000. It's a beautiful car in and out for the price great condition! i've noticed that when i start if up to let if warm, it war extremely loud, but i didn't think it was a big deal since it's cold out and it needed to warm. Tonight i was driving on a busy highway when i stopped at a red light and when it went silent, and stalled in the middle of a !@#$% highway at a red light too. No lights came on to indicate a problem. I finally got it started after a few minutes of harassing drivers and got it to a parking lot when it stalled again right when i pulled in. Started it again and parked it. Checked the oil and it was bone dry. I bought and put plenty of oil in it let it run drove a little and it worked great. Drove home when it happened again. Its now sitting in town until i have it towed tomorrow. Nice car inside and out!!!! dangerously shotty american motor.

Consumer complained that the engine had a knocking sound while driving. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop, andmechanic determined that vehicle needed another engine. Dealer not notified.

When driving at 35 mph vehiclestalled.this caused vehicle to drift to the side of the road. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer, and mechanic determinedthat engine head gasketfailed.

Heat & a/c only works when on high oil light comes on whenever you stop the car driver side window works when it wants to car starts when ever it gets ready i had to replace the cam and crank sensor $400 now after all that there is a loud knocking noise under the hood found out it's the enegine and it needs to be replaced

I have found an excellent and informative website against dailmler chrysler at www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com for anyone who would like more information mainly in regard to intrepid, 300m, concorde, lhs premature engine, steering, transmission and other common failures. I have experienced many of these problems myself and dailmer chrysler simply does not care, i could have even been killed in one instance. After owning another vehicle and putting nearly 30,000 miles on it i have not had any of the ridiculous problems experienced with chrysler's dodge brand of vehicles. There is a lot of information consumers need to know that dailmer chrysler does not want you to know about these vehicles and their common problems chrysler ignores, some of which are potential safety concerns such as the defective seat belt design chrysler continues to use and defective steering design and or components that can cause sudden looseness or change of response in steering, which can lead to a serious accident. These guys have been receiving complaints daily about these problems and have been referring consumers to the nhtsa, i hope that in turn the nhtsa will add this to the list of their complaints so others will also know about this. Thank you very much for your time.*nlm

Without any indication or warning light, my 1998 dodge intrepid suffered engine failure while traveling on i-71 n during rush hour.luckily, due to low speeds, there was no accident, but my vehicle was stopped in the middle of traffic causing major backup and safety concerns.the dealership determined the only solution was total engine replacement at an estimated $5000.

I just took my 98 intrepid(35,000 miles) into the shop today due to the oil pressure light coming on at idle. It turns out that the shop owner has seen 2 other intrepid's in the last month with the same problem. After he called the dodge dealership, he let me know that it is a very common problem they are having with these engines building up sludge. My mechanic informed me that the buildup in my engine is significant and that it is in danger of complete failure very soon. The only remedy that can be offered is to have the engine completely replaced at a cost of around $6,000 and is not covered under the dodge/chrysler warranty. This engine is less than 5 years old and only has 35,000 miles on it. I havehad regular oil changes every 3,000 miles andhave the receipts to prove it. I do not understand how they can expect this to be my problem to fix and after researching it further online i am not the only one in this situation. Please let me know if there is any additional info on this topic that is available. *nlm

While travelingvehicle stalled.consumer was unable to restart vehicle, andhad it towed to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a blown head gasket.

I have a 98 dodge intrepid ready to be re-possessed. I bought the car in 2001 with 53000 miles on it. 2 years later the engine blewwith no warning as i was getting off i-95. It cost me $4200 to replace the engine. A year later the 2nd engine blew and again with no warning as i was driving on i 95. I replaced the engine again at $2400 because i still owed money on my loan. The second engine lasted about another year and now overheats after driving it for a half hour. I took it to the mechanic and he said that the heads are bad and the engine is cracked. I will not put a 3rd engine in this car. I still owe $5000 on my loan and can't afford to pay for it any more since i went and bought a 2001 honda that i need to get to and from work.

In 2007 i bought a 1998 dodge intrepid 2.7 l engine....nonetheless the engine blew.the car had regular oil changes and maintenance.it gave no warning that there were any signs of engine trouble.i paid $6995 for the car, it had 67,000 miles on it.....2yrs later at 87,000 it died....leaving me to pay the rest of the loan of $2200 on a car that just sits in the driveway!!!

A quiet knocking noisewas heard before consumer merged onto the highway. The noise got louder 20 miles upon merging onto the highway in cruise control.upon pulling over to check the noise , and when the vehicle was at a complete stop, the oil light and the engine light came on. The oil level in the vehicle was full.the vehicle was currently being serviced to determine the cause of the noise, maybeit was due to engine failure.

Engine locked/failure was due toa shortage of oil and loss of coolant. Consumer believed thiswas cause by the engine service light failing to illuminate. Dealer andmanufacturer werenotified.

No warning engine blew at 40,000 miles, sitting on railroad tracks with child, had towed. Oil change every 3000 miles. Problem oil sludge. Paid 500.00 chrysler insurance deductible and replaced engine. At 80,000 failed again. Oil changed every 3000 miles. Oil sludge. Replaced timing cleaned out engine and oil pan paid 750.00. Started using fully synthetic oil and changed oil every 1000 miles and at 100,000 (60,000 on replaced new motor) engine failed again. Cheapest used engine is $2400.00 not including labor. I have had to rent and borrow vehicles while work has been done. Will not replace with another 2.7 engine because it will blow because of oil sludge also. Someone needs to make this large problem right!!

I own a 1998 dodge intrepid, it has 128,000 miles on it...oil has been changed every 3,000 miles....i was sitting at a stop light when the engine shut off...it was towed to the dealership where i was told that i needed a new engine...my husband is a auto mechanic, so i had the car towed to my house where my husband checked it out and told me that the timing chain went out, which had bent the intake valves...upon inspection of the block he noticed a defect in the block...the oil return holes are to small and become clogged, which in turn causes engine failure....and engine failure can cause accidents, if it fails at the wrong time and place.

Dt*: the contact stated engine terminated intermittently while driving at various speeds.this occurred three times.the first time, the vehicle restarted.the last two times, the vehicle was towed to a dealership.there were no lights that illuminated prior to each incident.when the vehicle stalled, the check engine light and oil light illuminated.the dealership could not duplicate the problem.

My 1998 intrepid with a 2.7 liter engine failed due to sludge build up. This car only has 76000 miles and we maintained it properly.i have talked to so many mechanics and keep hearing the same thing. "these engines are junk." the first mechanic would not touch it. It is ashame that dodge has not had to doanything about this faulty engine.

Transmission failure for 1998 dodge intrepid es at 103,000 miles. Rebuilt one put in and lasted 30,000 miles. Put in rebuilt engine again at 130,000 miles. Engine starting to act up again only after 5 months of driving. Temperature control not working properly and engine starting to act up again. All this in less than three years. Seems to be a major defect in transmissions.

My wife was on a trip to arkansas with her parents when the camshaft sensor was replaced and had to stay in a motel due to the fact the parts house sent the wrong part.after getting the car fixed and on her way, father in law was driving when all of a sudden the 2.7 engine dropped a rod through the oil pan.. This engine has been maintained by me when it comes to oil changes and maintenance... 3000 miles or 3 months faithfully since i have had this car for 8 months now.bought in october of 2003...the car has 79,000 miles on it and this should not have happened..i havbe been told by a reputable mechanic in jackson, tennessee where the car is and he has told me that this will be the 5th 2.7 engine he has replaced in the last 6-7 months..now i am out of one vehicle andprobably won't have the money to pay for the repair of replacing the engine with another 2.7 crap engine... I need some help from someone... Who do i need to turn to for this????

I have a 1998 dodge intrepid and i'm having motor problems.i only have 76,000 on this car and everyone that i speak to tells me that the type of motor which is a 2.7 is nothing but problems.i have spoke to repair people who have told me that they are replacing this motor in 2002 car! ts

While driving at an undetermined speed oil light appeared on the dashboard.consumer drove the vehicle to the dealership, andvehicle stalled while entering the dealership parking lot. Dealer was unable to resolve the problem.

Dt: the contact owns a 1998 dodge intrepid. The contact stated that in october 2002 the engine sludge increased and enginedied. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic , who told him about the sludge. The cost of repair to replace the engine was about $7000.when the contact went to trade the vehicle inthe vehiclestalled in the middle of the road on the way to the dealership.the contact h heard of numerous complaints with the 2.7l engine.the vehicle has been traded into the dealership for this problem. The oil in the vehicle was changed regularly, and the vehicle was regularly maintained. The mileage on the vehicle when they first began to have this problem was about 50,000 -60,000 miles. The total number of incidents where the engine stalled was about 4-5 times. Sometimes the vehicle would not start, run real rough or would completely stall. The engine had to be replaced one time.

While driving a loud knocking noise was heard from the front. Vehicleshook uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle. Then, vehicle stalled. Consumer tried to restart vehicle, but was unable to do so. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the mechanical shop, andmechanic determined that engine seized up due smudge inside of the engine, and it needed to be replaced.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph, the engine failed suddenly without warning on a highway.the check engine light illuminated.the vehicle was towed to a dealership who determined the engine seized and this was a very common problem with these engines.there were no problems with the vehicle prior to the incident and the oil changes were maintained every 3,000 miles.

When changing motor oil burned oil stayed inside the motor. When takenvehicle to dealer forinspection the cause could not be determined.

Dt: 1998 dodge intreped . The engine knocked and locked. Also engine light appeared.

Check engine light came on. Then, vehicle died while driving.the 2.7 liter engine failed.dealership indicated that the number3 cylinder disintegrated.

The engine failure is what i'm sick about. We paid the car off in dec. 2002, and we were happy with a relatively new, low mileage car. However, in january, 2003 the oil light started to blink.checked oil - fine.in february had oil changed. Pro team told us oil dirty - they did a flush. Oil light still blinking!end of march into april car started to blow a little black smoke, progressed to stuttering and stalling. Took car to chrysler dealer (five star) first they said something with carburator was gone - fixed $1,l00!took car home, no change(?)back to dealer, then they told us engine (2.7 liter) was shot.needed transportation. Had new engine done. Paid $5,500 - credit card - no other way. Being angry and sick about it ever since.

Engine failure:i had the car for 7 months.it suddenly made a high pitch squeeling noise.i pulled over, popped the hood to see if i could find what was causing the noise.the noise stopped so i drove to my destination another 11 miles.i watched the temp. Gauge and the engine never overheated.i parked at my destination and noticed a trail of water and antifreeze.i never started it again.i towed it to the repair shop and they told me that the engine was blown, unrepairable, cost could be close to $5,000 for a new engine. Window:the back right passenger window will go down but will not come back up unless you turn the car on and off 5 or 6 times and keep trying the window.i didn't have the money to get it fixed.i figured i could live with it if i didn't roll the window down.

Dt*: the contact stated while having the vehicle serviced, a leak was noticed under the engine.the dealer replaced a part on the bottom of the engine however, the problem persisted.the vehicle was returned to the dealer who determined the upper plenum was cracked and needed to be replaced.

While driving the vehicle's engine failed without warning. Please provide additional information. *nlm

My 1998 dodge intrepid has had problems from the moment i bought the car.it first started with engine problems and had to have a crank shaft put in the car just so that it would run.i have tried so many times to get rid of the car but i can't because i am upside down in my loan and no one will give me a dime for the car.ever since the first engine problem i have had numerous problems since then.the oil pump went out and i have to change the oil in the car every 2000 miles because it drinks oil so badly.and from every dealership that my mechanic has had to order parts from they say the engines in those cars a so bad.this is the 2nd engine my car has had and it has also had 1 crank shaft.i have 4 children and can't afford to get another car and i can't trade it in.is there anything you can do.

At 51,426 miles needed struts, sway bar links, front strut cushion, and lower control arms.tranny cooler lines also leaking, replaced pressure hose and retrun hose.tie rod sleeve needed replacement, now at 55,000 miles check engine light on, cylinder #6 misfiring.not fixed yet.also transmission was replaced just before i bought it had 35,000 miles when purchased and was 2 years old.would never purchase a dodge of any sort again.

While driving the engine seized, and can not be repaired. There was no warning.

The contact owns a 1998 dodge intrepid. The contact statedthat while driving approximately 35 mph when the engine began tosmoke. The vehicle was inspected by a independent mechanic whoinformed her that the motor failed due to the anti-freezeand oil mixing together. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Engine failure clicking noise possible valve train. Consuming large amounts of oil but no properly lubricating engine parts.

I was traveling approx. 60 mph when the engine failed.the vehivle had to be towed to a mechanic for evaluation and it was deterimined that the engine was faulty and that the engine would have to be replaced in order for the veihicle to be salvaged.at this time the vehicle remains at the mecanics while we are trying to locate a "used" or rebuilt engine, as the cost of a new one is quite high.

1998 dodge intrepid engine failed while driving.car had 68,000 miles and had regular oil changes every 5000 miles.

I bought my car in the summer of 1992; in such time i have had to replace the tires, serpintine belt, air conditioning belt, pulley and now the engine gave out on me.i bought the car from melloy dodge in albuquerque, new mexico.

The engine in my 1998 dodge intrepid with 56k miles n it is knocking.several mechanics have told me the engine needs to be rebuilt.it is the 2.7 l dohc and i have been reading numerous reports/complaints of the engine.

I have a 1998 chrysler intrepid with a 2.7 engine. The engine oil light has repeatedly come on at an idle. The engine was checked no problem was found, this has been going on for at least a year and has been repeatedly checked. Now the water pump went out and has caused numerous problems.

1998 intrepid was purchased with 102,00 miles. At 104,500 miles oil light started to flicker at stop lights. One day, engine just stopped running as i was driving at 55 mph. Oil changes had been faithfully done by previous owner and myself. Although i only managed to get one in before the engine died.

The vehicle has a continuousproblem withoil slug build up in the engine even after the engine motor was replaced. While driving, there was a ticking noise, followed by the check engine light coming on when this occurred the first time. The engine was replaced.the failure recurred within 2 years. The engine needed to be replaced again. This is a common problem with these vehicles.

Engine began sharp rapping while vehicle was operating on the highway.mechanics say the engine is known for sludge problems and needs replaced or repaired by complete overhaul.expense of either is in the neighborhood of $3600 and up for repairs.several salvage yards stated they are glad to get inthese cars as salvage because there is such a high incident for this motor to fail.these engines are known for these failures, yet chrysler has done nothing to make this problem right with the consumers.this auto is now useless for me without an expensive repair.

I bought this 1998 dodge intrepid on 1-13-05 from a car lot and within 5 days many problems arise which of coarse resulted in costly repairs.it was under warranty which hardly covered anythingso it was out of my pocket a new engine, map sensor, cat converter, major electrical problems and more.i am a single mom and a full time nursing student.this was my first new nice car i kept up with routine maintenance, made payments on time and consistent i have a few payments left but my car is all messed up and in the garage.i don;t have the money for this can somebody please get back to me just to let me know if there is help and to see if somebody received this.

Vehicle shut down while driving on the highway. Vehicle was towed to the dealer and the engine had to be replaced. Vehicle had been serviced properly since ownership.manufacturer was not been contacted.

Dodge intrepid 1998 this vehicle was purchased in july of 1998 new there are several problems here 1. Windows already had to purchase 4 motors for the windows. 2. My latest problem is the house where you take the car to fix is horrible mechanics. I took my car in for a check -up.they charged me 1,000.00 and told me everything was good brought the car home and anti freeze leaked all over garage floor. Brought the car back to take care of the problem. 3. Brought the car back home and i hear a rattling noise, take the car back and i am told another 600.00 for a coolant problem with the fan or i don"t know but they flushed the coolant so why do i have to pay for this and another motor for the window again this a problem from the house and not minehow can i resolve this they need to take this car back or offer me an adjustment of the monies i have spentsincerely mrs. Madelyn nagle

My 1998 dodge intrepid experienced sudden engine failure.it will cost me approximately $6500 to fix the problem.this will involve replacing the engine which has sludge build-up and a mass air flow sensor.i maintained regular service on this vehicle and was told by chrysler that it was my fault.upon investigation, i discovered that i am by no mean the only victim of this type of problem.please help me get justice.

91000 miles had toreplace camshaft and crankshaft sensors/ cooling motor blowed, thermostat housing had to be replaced. And car shakes when brakes are applied.

While driving there was a rattling noise coming from the engine. Then, the vehicle stalled while approaching an intersection.black smoke came out of the exhaust. Vehicle was towed to a dealership, who indicated thattiming chain and water pump blewout. This was a common failure with these vehicles. *tc

My car was towed to dealer on a wednesday and radiator was replaced, after getting the car back on friday evening, sat. The car overheated again and had to be towed. After called numerous times to find out the problem i was told the motor blew and they were trying to find a replacement. I was told i must have run the car hot. The car should not have run hot if a new radiator was installed the day before. Now i am stuck with a car payment and no car.

Engine was running hottowed into repair shopsaid that the valves were burnt and block was cracked.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled.the vehicle was towed to a dealership, where it was determined the pump for the cooling system failed.this caused water to get into the engine, therefore, the engine must be replaced.also, the brakes warped causing vibration in the front end.the vehicle was not seen by a mechanic for this and neither problem was repaired.

I have a 1998 dodge intrepid that when the blower is on for the heater it goes off and on ,causing the car to overheat, and when the a/c is on it does the same. Also the trunk accumulates a lot of moisture.

91000 miles had toreplace camshaft and crankshaft sensors/ cooling motor blowed, thermostat housing had to be replaced. And car shakes when brakes are applied.

Me car was purchased used 1/16/03, since purchase, have had several serious problems; idler pulley warped, broke power steering belt while on road cooling fan motor went out on passenger side of car-the engine in my 1998 dodge intrepid blew -up when i was on the expressway in a construction zone (one lane of traffic). I was told by several local auto mechanics and dodge dealerships that these engines are notorious for this problem. The power steering and braking quit when engine quit. Car diagnosed by local mechanic " needs engine replaced".

My 1998 dodge intrepid is oneof those that was on the abc 7 news . The car just stop in the middle of the expressway on my way home from work at about 10.oo p.m in burr rigde. I called the dearlership they say they can't do anything for me.i still have to pay $7000 for this car to the dearler and i can't drive this car that i only had it for 6 months before the engine stop. What can i do ? its going to cost me$4000 to $$5000 to get it fix. I can't pay this repairs plus the payments . I have four kids and its hard to take two of them to school walking when the school is abouteight block form my house . It very hardwithout my car . I need some way of getting this car fix or junk this car and still pay for this.

While driving 65 mph vehicle engine seized. Dealer determined the hose that connects the oil pan and the engine clogged, causing the oil not to enter the engine.

While driving and upon turning the vehicle off it was fine. When trying to start the vehicle again it will not start. When driving and trying to acceleratevehicle will not accelerate. Also, it is usinglots of fuel. Contacted the dealer, and was told the vehicle was not repairable. Consumer have 3 isolated problems, made several attempts to fix these problems. First problem once vehicle warm up completely it is difficuit to restart.recent problem has been an unrepairable exhaust problem. Have had 3 different repair shops tell consumer they can't fix it. Final issue is radiator flush that can't service.the repair shops can't get the damp off.these are all original parts.

I believe my 1998 dodge intrepid es was a lemon when i brought it, i've had nothing but problems with it, overheating, stalling, stopping.

Engine failed while driving, lost all power steering.engine blown due to sludge in engine because of a faulty design, no warning signs.just had oil changed two weeks prior to incedent.

Engine keeps turning off , oil light keeps flickering when stop.

We (husband and i) own a 1998 dodge intrepid with a 2.7l engine. We were driving down the road and the engine locked up and the car died. There were no warning signs, no lights came on, no unusual sounds. We have taken care of this car, with oil change receipts and all of that good stuff. We were driving down a main road in the town we live in when this happened and were going around a curve. Luckily the two cars beside us were paying attention, because since the engine locked up, the power steering went out, and i wasn't strong enough to steer out of the way, the other two cars did manage to honk their horns and swerve, nearly going off of the road. (i have read and been told by tons of mechanics the 2.7l engines in these cars are horrible). *la

Dt: the contact stated vehicle, started to shake and make terrible noises. She pulled over to the side of the road, and the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The contact was told the engine needed to be replaced. Repairs will be made at the contact'sexpense.

Dt:the contact stated that without warning the engine stalled.when she tried to restart the vehicle it would not stay on.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic.he said the stalling was due to an oil sludge build up,and the parts were built too close together.the engine has not been replaced.

Consumer stated while driving 55 mph and without any indication vehiclelost power. Consumer coasted vehicle onto side of road. Technician serviced vehicle and replaced engine.

My car, an intrepid 1998 with an engine of 2.7l, broke up because an excess of grease on the engine, i tried to repair it but all the pieces are extremely expensive, besides i read about articles in the internet of a lot of customers with the same problems.

1998 dodge intrepid engine blew up unexpectedly, stranding my entire family 2 hours from home.it's still in the shop and cannot make the repairs and i still owe $9600 on it.

While in motion, the crankshaft broke in the engine.consumer contacted the chrysler corp. But the only response to consumer was that it was normal for a crankshaft to break in an engine.consumer checked with a few mechanics who claimed otherwise.the mechanics feel the crankshaft is the last thing to go in the engine.cosumer contacted a business about an engine and was informed that there were four other phone calls about engines for the same year make and model.consumer believes that there is a manufacturing defect in the engine.*jg

While driving 40 mph vehicle stalled.driver tried to restart the vehicle and was not able to do so. Vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection, andmechanic determine d that the engine needed to be replaced.

While traveling at highway speedbatterywarning light came on, and consumer lost all electrical power.consumer saw something fall off, it was the pulley that held the two drive belts.

While driving engine made a knocking noise, and smoked. Took vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the engine was defective. Consumerhad the vehicle for seven months.

While driving, the engine failed without warning.*scc

Engine is blown and only has 62,000 miles. Oil changes were kept up and oil levels were normal. Engine just went with no warning. After talking to many machanincs this seem to be public knowledge. Except the dealer forgot to tell us of the history this engine has. The remanufactured engine are redone with proper oil pump, bearings and chain tensioners, this is a manufactures rebuilt engine. However they will not help us. We are paying for a car that we can not drive. Please help.d.p.

While driving, consumer could hear the rod knocking in the motor.

I was coming off of the freeway, stopped at a red light, my oil light came on, and in a blink of an eye the engine died.it would not restart.i had someone look at it and it had no oil, so i filled it, tried starting it, after several attempts it started, it makes a clank clank noise, and is undriveable. I have my oil changed regularly.

Vehicle's engine started knocking very loud then and it made a loud pop and seized, i was on a one lane highway around a curve where cars travel at around 65 mph, this could have been a deadly accident. Luckily i had a friend following me who pushed me to safety. Mechanic said the engine is no good and not repairable, would need replaced but he does not recommend because these engines are known for this problem and it could happen again after investing $3000 or more in replacing it. So now i have a very expensive lawn ornament! chrysler should be replacing these engines free of cost, what terrible craftsmanship and even worse their customer service!

1999 i bought a 98 dodge intrepid. 2000, engine blown from oil sludge at 42,000. I was taking kids to school and car stopped with no warning on railroad tracks and had to be towed. Paid $500.00 deductibles at dealership and they replaced engine. Had proof of oil changes. 2002broke down again. The timing chain broke and broke other parts. This cost $800.00. Also, i have replace all window motors at least once and twice again on two more. And relay switches. At this point because i paid $21,000 for this car also all the money in repairs. Too much invested to just let it go. I started using fully synthetic oil and changes oil every 1000 miles. This was also expensive. I had to try something to save this car. Well that didn't work either. 2005 the engine blew again, oil sludge. I has set at the garage until 12/06. I had to borrow a car for the past year until i could fix the intrepid again. Now i have paid another $2000.00 to switch the engine with at 3.2 liter engine. I get it back today!! i can not find even a junkyard salvage yard that will that the engine and transmission. That is sad!! i have been told be every mechanic and salvage company i have contacted, that everyone is aware of the 2.7 problems and will not touch one.

I have a 1998 dodge intrepid and the engine is just about to go. I haven't driven it in 3 months to prevent complete failure. The car has only 68,000 miles on it and it sounds horrible! i had it looked at and the mechanic told me it was ready to blow anytime. There is no excuse for a car with this low mileage to completely fail.

Safety recall regarding the transaxle floor shifter ignition park interlock on the 1998 dodge intrepid.*mrthe vhicle would not start.the dealer replaced the timing cover, vc cover, main timing chain, tensioner and guides.

Premature engine failure due to an oil sludging condition.

The contact owns a 1998 dodge intrepid.while driving 30 mph, the engine failed.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the engine needed to be replaced.the vehicle currently remains at the dealer.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 62,000.

While driving 40 mph vehicle stalled.

There was a knocking noise in the 2.7 liter enginethat could have caused an engine failure. Oil compartment was full when the noise occurred. The cause of engine failurewas undetermined.

1998 dodge intrepid2.7 literblown engine 75000 mi.*la

The oil light illuminated on the dashboard and the vehicle stalled, the dealer informed consumer the engine needed to be replaced.

The car starting smoking and then check engine light came on...cant find anything wrong with it...check engine light still on and still smoking lots.

While driving my 1998 dodge intrepid, my oil light came on and approx. Fifteen minutes later my car stopped in the middle of the road during rush hour.because the car would not start, i called the police to have them stop traffic so i could cruise my car backwards into the emergency lane.i had the car towed to a mechanic to fix what i thought was a bad starter or alternator.the mechanic determined that the engine had seized up and that i had plently of oil and antifreeze.he said that the oil pump located inside the engine may have stopped working and therefore caused my engine to lock up.

Engine failure- my wife was driving and all of a sudden you heard a loud bang and the engine was out. She almost lost control of the car since the steering was out and she barely had brakes due to the engine failure. I know there was oil in the car when we started driving because i just had a oil change done. Plus when my wife finally got the car over to the side of the road there was oil leaking from the engine and all over the bottom of the car and all over the engine.

February 10, 2003- diagnosis bad valve guides car blowing smoke from the exhaust.1998 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter engine.march 10,2003-engine was making a clicking(ticking noise) has around 84,900 miles on it. The motor died. Diagnosis by mechanic was the whole engine needs to be replaced. Cost is $4500. Will happen again. Because mechanics are saying all these 2.7 liter engines by chrysler blow around 80,000+ miles.motor died from engine sludge, even though oil changes were all up to date. The car is worth $3500 with a good engine. To get another engine is $4500 and up. The loan on the car is for $10,000 and extended warranty will not touch it.

I have a 1998 dodge intrepid with only 77,000 miles on it and i just found out that i will need a new engine. Nobody is willing to help me and its really sad when dodge/chrysler does not want to own up to there wrong doings... I found out that there are many more like me. Please help me bring them too justice !!! a recall needs too be made on these vehicles. I don't even own mine and my choices are you either fix it or let them repo. It.i am a single parent and i just can't afford a 400.00 a month payment and over 5,000.00 in repairs...what should i do ? i kept all the maintenance up on this vehicle. I am really confused.

Car was purchased in 5/06 from private dealer. Fuild and oil levels where inspected by owner (at jiffy lube with documantation) which were clean and full. Oil change had been done less then 3,000 miles prior and was not due. On the day of the incident the engine light turned on, there was a click coming fromthe engine. The car was pulled over, from off the freeway, and the engine seized.

While driving back from consumer's son's school vehicle cut off. Vehicle did this about 4 times, and the last time the vehicle would not restart. Consumer had the vehicle towed to a private mechanic, who determinedthat the motor was shot/gone.

Purchased 1998 dodge intrepid 2.7 in year 2001 and engine shut down in summer of 2002. Kept up with oil changes and had oil in it when it shut down. Replaced engine in may 2002 for $4,100. This year june 2004 the engine started knocking real loud with no warning in the middle of 95 in virginia and shutdown. Had to have the car pushed off 95 and had police assistance to havethe car towed all the way back to maryland and was told i needed a new engine for the 2nd time.... Estimated cost $6.300 purchasing engine through jasper who has stated the engine has oil line issues and water pump issues. They have revamped and redesigned (so they say to make it a better engine) but the cost to have a 2nd engine is just crazy and i refuse to fix it again.... Something needs to be done about this engine problem...... It is unfair to all the people who have trusted to purchase a car from chrysler/dodge and then to have our lives turned upside down. How may complaints does there need to be before this engine is recalled. Myself and others do to research on another site www.autosafety.org have complained and have been treated unfairly and have lost lots of money and most of us still owe a balance for the car itself... Please someone hear us and help!!!!i have called chrysler and the dealership where the car was purchased and they refuse to help...... **(information given for mileage was 96000 after purchase then on second engine that was installed was said to have only 12000 miles and only put 29000 on it until june 18th, 2004.)****thank you, terry amato.

Dt:the consumer owns a dodge intrepid.the vehicle had total engine failure with the only warnings being the oil light flickering on and off once or twice.the vehicle also stalled but was able to be restarted.the vehicle started making a knocking sound immediately before the engine failed.the contact pulled off highway and the vehicle had to be towed, a certified mechanic stated the engine needed to be replaced.also the vehicle was taken to a service dealer who also verified the engine needed to be replaced.the dealer referred to the problem as total engine failure.

Blown engine, without a warning.while driving.

While driving at 40 mph consumer heard a clanking noise under the hood.vehicle was towed to a dealer, who informed the consumer that a new engine was needed.

*la

While driving the vehicles engine blew out without warning. *nlm

Engine failure, timing chain failure on interstate.obtained new timing chain but engine beyond repair.total loss.

Engine started having a ticking sound.took vehicle into dealer and dealer replaced the rods and bearings.this repair lasted one year.now i need a new engine. Complete engine failure at 81,000 miles.

1998 dodge intrepid just reached 87,000.the 2.7 engine needs to be replaced.this car has been advertised not to need its first tune-up until 100,000.however, we have provided regular maintenance.we have done a little research and have found hundreds of complaints for the same thing.shouldn't the manufacturer be held accountable for such a problem that is vastly widespread?

I have a 98 dodge intrepid with a 2.7l engine. I bought car in july 06, came with 90 day warranty. Had it to dealer within a month of purchase for "ticking" noise. Was told was "normal lifter noise". Two weeks ago, engine blew. Timing chain broke, damaging lifters, pistons, etc. Need new engine at cost of merely $6,000. Or used at $4,000. Still owe $4,600 on car. I feel totally ripped off! i am paying for a junk car that i can't even drive. Lost one job because of no transportation, and may soon lose second job for same reason.

While driving my 1998 dodge intrepid, i heard a noise a saw a blue cloud of smoke.i immediately pulled over and realized that the engine was about to fail.o indicator or warning light was on.the car had 50,000 miles and was maintained on a regular basis.it was then towed to a dodge dealer where i was informed that the engine blew and would be $6,000 to be replaced.i was also informed that the value of the vehicle was now $100!!!

One week after having oil changed in my 98 dodge intrepid 2.7l,while driving, engine revved real high in cruise control and made a loud clunking noise and died before stopping.check engine light never came on.towed the car to dodge dealership where they told me that the oil was metallic and that the engine needed to be replaced.the car has only 108,000 miles on it.

Bought my 1998 dodge intrepid in november of 2004. I did a routine oil check every 3000 miles. The one time i don't get it changed at 3,000 miles with it only being over by 700 miles my engine blows. I've drove many cars and i didn't get the oil changed at exactly 3000 miles. I was driving with my two little girls. I came to a stop at a stop light and it the oil and check engine light comes on with my engine making a very loud noise and my car shaking. I managed to get it into a parking lot i sat there for an hour waiting for someone to help. Just to find out its a blown engine and its going to cost me over four thousand dollars to replace. My car has 117000 miles on it. I'm unable to afford to fix it and i have heard of many problems with the 2.6 l. Why is there nothing being done about them or a recall especially with as many people having problems with them. I have no transportation now with two little girls working and going to college someone needs to do something about this.

I currently own a 1998 chrylser intrepid which has 110,000 miles on it. In that amount of time i have had to replace the engine twice. The first time occured on 1/1/1999 with only 12000 miles on it. The dealership told me that the motor seized up due to thick oil. The oil had lots of metal shavings from inside the engine. They would not replace staing due to lack of maintainence. After that i faithfully made sure i had receipts on all engine maintenence items. In july of 2003 the engine did the same thing and another replacement was needed. I went directly to a non-dealership location to have the second engine put in because 1. The dealership where i bought it is not there. And 2. Because of the attitude and problems i had fighting the first time with chrysler. This complaint is being filed to make others aware of the problems that i have had with this vehicle.

Engine on a 1998 dodge intrepid with only 64,000 miles on it requires a new one. The piston and valves are shot.the required oil and filter changes were performed timely.i cannot fix this by myself.the cost is 7,000.00.i have to drive it like it is and this is a potential danger because if the oil isn't kept at proper levels it could freeze and stall while driving.there is no incident yet but can be if let the way it is.i have no other means of transportation and can't afford to repair the whole bill.chrysler is not helping or showing any responsibility.i think it should be recalled and grounds for class action. *nlm

I have a 1998 dodge intrepid with a blown engine due to buildup of sludge.even after providing maintenance records of oil changes every 3000 miles, consumer car care, from whom i purchased an extended warranty, refused my claim.the engine in these cars are known to be defective, yet all cases of sludge are blamed on the consumer.i find it hard to believe that all owners of 1998 through 2000 model year intrepids an concorde did not change their oil, but that is what we are being told by chrysler corp.any good mechanic will confirm the problems in these cars and many service stations will not work on them because of these problems.it is time to make chrysler take responsibility for these defective vehicles.

Dt: the contact stated the engine failed while driving. She heard an odd noise in the engine. She pulled over to check the engine and the oil level was fine. When she started the car back up the engine was knocking. The vehicle was towed o the local service shop. The mechanic stated the enginefailed and would have to be replaced. She had no plans on repairing the vehicle. The manufacturer has not been contacted.

The valves started clicking.i checked the oil, it was not low.i changed the oil.i saw a chrysler silver certified mechanic.he told me that the motor was failing, and the only option was to replace the motor.the motor failed on june 2, 2003.we had the car towed and it has not been repaired.i did not want another 2.7 chrysler motor.

In june of 2004, my 1998 dodge intrepid stalled during normal highway driving during mid afternoon driving. Luckly, we were able to safely steer the car onto a offramp. If this happened during rush hour, there was a good 99% chance that my children would have lost a parent that day!after towing the car into a repair shop, we later found out that we needed a new engine (oil sludge problem, $5000)! during research on the internet and nhtsa, i found out this is a very common problem with intrepids. I hope sometime in the future, dodge will own up to this mistake.

Vehicle's low pressure light illuminated, vehicle was towed to mechanic. Mechanic stated that there was sludge build up in the motor.

Was driving down hwy. And engine lost power and stalled little or no warning.brought car to mechanic and was told my 2.7 l engine failed due to very common oil sludge problem called chrysler and was told sludge only happens when maintenance is not performed properly no help offered.car was very hard to steer to the shoulder of the road and almost caused an accident.

The car accelerated, the rpm's went thru the roof, when put into drive, and shot forward, made a loud thump sound, and was not stoppable, had to be put into park to stop.the engine had ripped out of the frame, which had ripped out of the body.

The oil light flickered than stayed on while driving. This was followed by lost of power.thereafter, a metal to metal sound occurred in the engine just before the consumer pulled off the road.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic. The mechanic indicated after inspection that theengine seized up due to oil sludge build up which is a common failure with this size engine. The vehicle is currently at the mechanic.

Ltr fm (mo) re the defective engine in his 1998 chrysler vehicle, wants chrysler to be held resposible for putting faulty engines in their vehicles.

I purchased innovember 2003 a 1998 dodge intrepid for my daughter.within 18 months this car was in the shop 10 times for engine problems.oil changes were followed according to the manufacturers schedule.at 94,000 miles my daughter was driving with her two small children when the cars engine stopped.thank goodness it was in a parking lot and not on a busy highway.after several calls to different mechanics the consensus was that this is a typical problem due to a design flaw.dodge/chrysler will not replace this faulty engine.this is a safety issue, what if she had been driving on a busy highway and it stopped in the middle of the road before she could get off the highway.i dread to think of what may have happened.finally i had to spend $3600 dollars for a replacement engine and am now being told it could happen again.not only an i out of pocket for repairs but i still owe on this car.

Dodge intrepid 2.7l-v6 engine failed while driving. He car was driven by our 18 year old son accompanied by 2 of his friends.he lost power steering and brakes due to failure of engine. Fortunately he could bring the car to a save stop without injuring anybody.reason according to dodge dealership: oil sludge due to what several engine experts have stated is due to internal oil passages that are too narrow for engine oil to properly circulate.

Complete engine failure due to oil sludge build up. Mechanic stated that this was a common problem with the 2.7l engines due to a design flaw. My wife was driving the car when failure occurred, had it been at highway speeds a serious crash could of occurred.

1998 dodge intrepid, oil sludge cause timing chain to break, damaging everything. Car just quit.

I bought a dodge intrepid in april 08. It had 53,000 miles, in great condition and spotless carfax. The car started making problems at 57000 miles. It overheated, so we got the radiator fixed which solved my problem for a week or so. After that week, while driving on the long island expressway my engine quit on me, and started steaming when trying to turn it back on. There was no warning of that happeningwhatsoever. No lights on, no engine overheating, nothing. I had to get the car towed to a mechanic, who told me the engine was broken beyond repair, and we donated the car.

I purchased a 1998 intrepid (v6 2.7l) in feb. Of 2005.in oct. 2005 while driving, the vehicle began to make a loud noise coming from the engine.i parked the car immediately.the next day as a preventative measure, i had an unscheduled oil change done.within one week, the engine began to knock and the motor was blown.i have priced repairs, and just a used engine alone is $2000 to $3500.

First the water pump went out, had it replaced then myengine bottomedout and now needs to be replaced.

I have experienced the same serious problem as many others and can't afford to cover the cost of repairs nor make payments for something i can't drive.the engine in my 1998 dodge intrepid started making weird ticking noises all of a sudden.the oil light was flashing on and off from time to time and the oil level was fine.the engine shut down while coming to a stop and the steering wheel locked. Paying for another engine is impossible. These engines already had soon to give outwritten on thembefore they left the assembly plant.the cost to replace the engine should not be left up to the owner.totally unfair!!!!!

The contact owns a 1998 dodge intrepid.while driving between 65-70 mph, the vehicle began to jerk, rattle, make noise, and then shut off.the mechanic stated that the vehicle needed lifters.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 100,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.

I have a 1998 dodge intrepid, and it already needs an engine after only 65,000 miles of service.the car has been in this condition since february 2002, when it began running hot.the chrysler dealer said that it needed an engine and also cooling fan components.this car is less than five years old and less then 65,000 miles, there is no reason that a well made car should need an engine at this point.from just the complaints on nhtsa's site of other consumer complaints with the same problem, the engine should be recalled, and fixed by chrysler.

I was on vacation for the weekend in canada, on the way back, and all of a sudden heard a loud knocking sound. I pulled over immediately into a hotel parking lot, and the knock was so loud, it sounded like it was going to explode. It is once again a 1998 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter engine, that has gone bad. I have owned it since 2001, and have changed the oil every 3000 miles with synthetic oil. I even had the timing chain and tensioners changed january 2007, because i heard these go bad and ruin the engine. I am a former mechanic, who really takes care of my vehicles. Every mechanic told me in 2001 that these engines are junk, and not to buy it, but i didn't listen to them. Now the car sits in my driveway, and i still owe money on it.

While driving 25 mph, the vehicle died out and could not be restarted. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. *sc

My 1998 dodge intrepid, 2.7 liter engine, with 53,000 miles was making a funny engine noise (no prior warning what so ever).i took it to the dealership, and was told i needed a new engine because of "engine sludge."the cost was $6,990.00 and i still owed over $4,000.00 on the vehicle!!unless i could prove i got regular oil changes, there was no recourse.and then they told me because i bought the vehicle used (1 year old) - even that was pointless, because there was no proof the previous owner got regular oil changes!!the more i search, there are so many others out there with this exact same problem.it is an outrage that dodge isn't acknowledging this.there aren't many families that can take a financial hit of $7,000.00!*la

My 1998 well maintained dodge intrepid, with the now, well known design flaw, failed in traffic in july of 2001. I contacted daimler and i wrote 2 letters asking for some consideration of the cost of the new engine and i noted that it was a safety issue. Three and a half years later, with thousands of documented failures on the web, these 2.7 liter daimler chrysler engines still have not been recalled and the danger increases each day, as the mileage increases on these 1998- 2002 engines and they fail with more frequency. Does this failure have to turn into the "daimler pinto", with documented loss of life, before daimler does or is forced to do the right thing.

I was driving my 1998 intrepid and without any warning it just stopped on the road(very dangerous for me).the mechanic told me the engine had blown.there was only 95000 milles on the car.i have followed everything in the owner's manual on how to maintain the car, including changing the oil every 3000 miles.i got an estimate from the mechanic and he told me it would cost around $5000 to repair.i send a letter to chrysler and am wanting for their response before i start any work on the car.

While coming to a stop at a stoplight, my car engine suddenly shut off.i was unable to get the car started.the battery had to be jumped and i was able to drive approximately 1/4 of a mile when the engine shut off again and this time the power steering went as well.during this short distance, the car was making a horrible clanking sound.when checked out, it was found that 5 of the 6 sets of rod bearings were spun and one bearing had broken into pieces and had fallen into the oil pan.my 1998 intrepid has 81,000 miles and i had no warning that this type of damage was occurring.

The engine failed on my 1998 chrysler intrepid which has only got 101,000 miles on it give or take a few miles. My pregnant wife was diving on a busy highway and the engine failed. She almost lost control of the car and had problems pulling the car over and getting it to stop. Along with my wife were me, my mother-in-law, and my 2 kids. I changed the oil every 3,000 miles and there was no kind of signs to lead up to the engine failure.

While driving 35 mph vehicle stalled.vehicle was towed to an independent shop, and technician indicated that engine needed to be replaced.

In december a mechanic told me the oil was like sludge in the car, accusing me of not having it changed although i had it changed every 3,000 miles.he told me then about the engine failure with the 2.7 lilter.in march, my engine started tapping and the oil light started blinking.the engine idle was lower than normal and it would sound like it was going to stall while sitting at a traffic light.i checked the oil when the tapping started, and it was fine.that was a thursday night.i drove the car to work (3.5 miles one way) and back on friday.saturday morning i was on my way to the garage 3 miles away from home to have the car checked out, and while trying to get there, the engine started to make a racket, the check engine light was flashing, and then the car died in the middle of the road.my husband had to push me out of the road with his car as the metro police stopped traffic.the car was towed to the garage, and the mechanic said there was no oil in the car.i had checked the oil before i left and there was no oil trail on the road.when the mechanic put the car on a lift, he saw that the rear main seal was blown and the engine was shot.i still owe money on the car, and now i have a car that doesn't run.

Details-loud ticking sound with oil light coming on when stop and shutting off some times. I have talk to repair shops and they said i would have to replace engine (cost$ 5800)because the 2.7 engine is junk!i talk with a guy from a repair shop and he said that i was the fifth person today to call in with the same complaint( i called in around 1p.m.). This is sad . Just think american made. Now i see why no one is buying american made cars anymore. And they have the nerve to say it was my fault the first time the engine wit out. And the for second time , i'm just wondering what the excuses is going to be? lets face it 1998 dodge intrepid 2.7 is junk!! now fix it recall 2.7 engine.*la

While driving the engine failed.*nlm

The consumer experienced problems with the engine. The engine has been burning oil excessively for the past 20,000 miles. The oil light stayed on and eventually the engine will seize. Provide further details.

I made a short drive home at approx. 5:45 am when my engine oil warning light illuminated and there was a sudden lost of power and a hard knock sound. I was in the process of turning into my community at the time of the incident.i restarted the car, it repeatedly knocked loudly the next 100 yards to my home. I then had it towed and was told that the engine was totaled. The warning light began to come on the previous day when the car was idling, with plenty of oil in the engine. So i had already made an appointment when this sudden engine failure came to be. There were no signs of this problem until it happened and the only repair needed on the car was a minor oil leak which should not of caused such a drastic problem like this.

Dt: while driving on freeway the consumerheard noise coming from the engine. The consumer pulled off at a gas station, parked the vehicle, and revved the engine ,and the sound returned. The engine noise was worse today than it was yesterday. The consumer took the vehicle to a mechanic, and he advised the consumer this was a known problem with the 2.7 l engine, and that chrysler was aware of the problem. The only thing the mechanic could do was replace the engine.

While driving suddenly a puff of smoke came from the engine. When this occurred consumer pulled off the road, to let the engine cool down. Then , consumer drove slowly home.the next day vehicle was towed to the dealership, anddealership indicated that engine blew out.the consumer was told that this was a standard failure with these vehicle's engines.the engine's were redesigned in the newer model year vehicles. The consumer request reimbursement for the faulty engine.

Due to sludge build up in the engine, oil evaporated, which caused the engine to blow.

Consumer complained aboutengine problems.this was the secondengine installed. However, the result was the same. While driving at approximately 50 mph engine locked up and quit operating.

I have a 98 dodge intrepid, and the engine went(at 83,000 miles) at no warning, after doing a lot of research there are other customers in the same position. I am out of a car, that i cannot drive, and still have to make payments on cause i cannot afford to pay for the repair. There is no reason why this engine should fail at 83,000 miles. Please help!!!!!!! *nlm

My engine started making a awful tapping noise 3 blocks away from home.got home, towed my car to my mechanic and he proceded to tell me i had blown the engine in my car.my mechanic dicussed my problem with other mechanics and the told him that the 2.7 lit engine in the intrepid has been nothing but problems for most intrepid owners.my car was full of oil and i always followed the service schuedule.right now i am rebuilding the engine that has a bad bearing, has a cracked cam shaft and also threw a piston.the rebuilder has no explination as to what went wrong but that he works on these engines more than he should because they are so new.by the way my car has 80,000 miles on it and did'nt make a sound until this hapened.

Engine had been knocking for approx. 2 months. My mechanic said not a problem eventually failed. Took car to dealer and they told me it had dropped a main bearing. Required a new short engine.dt

Dealer aligned vehicle moving rack and pinion steering over last year.since then the car pulls left.took it back twice to the same location, had it aligned at two tire shops numerous times and am always told it is aligned to manufacturers specifications.i have a continous pull to the left which gets wrose at higway speeds.dealer told me tires and had four different sets puts on from different manufactuers and still the same problem and am always told it is fine.the car is not fine and is unsafe and bumpy roads besides hard on my suspension and made it very difficult to control on the last 3 snow storms we had here the past couple of weeks.i am sick of the run around and each time it costs me because it is not a covered item even though i have a 7 year 70,000 miles warranty.the engine has leaked since i bought her and there again am told it is fine.she has been to 3 different dodge dealerships and am always told the same thing.the engine leaks and 2 weeks ago smelled something burning and found that it was engine oil all over the bottom of the engine and exhaust but told she was fine when it was in the day before at the dealership.i am tired of this car and can not afford to continously repair it knowing they did something to her and will not honor the repairs.i need your help.

Two times in the last 1.5 years, while i was stopped in traffic (with my foot on the brake) the engine suddenly accelerated! in both cases, i was stopped at a traffic light behind another car. The reving of the engine took me by surprise both times, but i managed to push the brake pedal hard enough so that i did not hit the car in front of me.i shifted into neutral and shut off the engine.it started up and in neither instance did i have another re-occurrence that day.

Very loud knocking from the engine occurred then the engine diedlifters were replaced because they were collapsed and knocking still occurs and mechanic is now checking into the timing chain.

I purchased a 1998 dodge intrepid in order to go to medic school in 2004 from jd byrider in cleveland, ohio on december 3,2003. In january the car started to have a rough idle after i would drive it around the city to do things. (e.g. Banking pick up children and other stuff.) i took the car back then and kept to run some test but they said it would not do what i said it would. So after this went on for about 3 more times the service manager sent the car to deacon's chrysler to have them work on it. Deacons did about $1000 worth of work on it and i got the car back. Once spring arrived in cleveland i began to notice white smoke coming out of my tail pipe whenever i would drive off from a light or stop sign or anything else after sitting there idle for a brief period. Around my tail pipe was black oil sludge building up, and the car was burning up 1 quart of oil every 5000 miles. By now there is a new service manager at jd byrider and he put me on a oil consumption test to see how much oil it would burn over 3000 miles. Meanwhile i was heavy into school i worked full time for cleveland ems on a 12 hour shift, had school 2 days out of the week and make all my clinical time. From january to november i put in over 18,000 miles, so in october when i had my third oil consumption testand the mileage was to high i was told that there was nothing that jd byrider or best extended could do for the car. (i recorded the conversation also) i asked for the records of my vehicle for when it was serviced by jd byrider and they "lost, misplaced the file. So i went to chrysler and had them print me a copy of the work and they still would not do the work on the car. In february of 2005 after leaving a medical seminar on strokes my 1998 dodge had a major breakdown. Air conditioner makes a hissing noise as compressor cycles.

Hissing noise from front right section of vehicle that repeats every 15-20 seconds while a/c is engaged. Fan is set on the lower 2 levels. Dealer believes it the opening/closing of a vacuum door, but has unable to correct in 4 visits which includes 2 tsbs (10/98 & 6/99). Noise is more prominent after car interior has cooled off from its hottest level or at night. But it does occurs at all times. This becomes quite annoying and stressful on longer trips.

My a/c evaporator has been hissing and dodge says it was normal during my warranty period but now i find it was not the case and also about the odor that came with it . The driver side window stick in the up position but you never know when , boy i will tell you dodge sure did pick the right name, even when they know there are these problems and even issued extended warranties for intrepids 93-97 up to 7 years...meaning???? a/c evaporators are suppose to last at least 7 years....well ours isnt lasting even 3 years!!worst car i have ever bought and it was not cheap.

While drivingheadlights will sporadically go out for about 15 seconds, then come back on. Dealer has seen vehicle, and couldn't find the cause of the problem.

The contact owns a 1998 dodge intrepid. The contact stated gasoline fuel was leaking from the fuel line that connected to the fuel rail. There was also an overpowering odor of gasoline from the interior of the vehicle. The contact was advised by both the dealer and manufacturer that the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle was neither repaired nor diagnosed for the failure. The failure mileage was 76,945 and the current mileage was 76,985.

My car was destroyed and burned completely.i would like to know if other 1998 dodge intrepids have caught fire as well.it appears since 1993 that fuel line problems have existed in dodge intrepids.the firefighter informed me that there is a history of dodge intrepids catching on fire nationwide.thank you.

Transmission not shifting properly.

Transmission will come out of gear on its own and drop down to a low gear. It then locks out the higher gears. This is a dangerous operation as it could result in a accidentby being rearended from another vehicle. Chrysler has had problems with this since 1992 and at one time repaired or replaced all defective vehicles. It is still an on going safety hazard.

I have found an excellent and informative website against dailmler chrysler at www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com for anyone who would like more information mainly in regard to intrepid, 300m, concorde, lhs premature engine, steering, transmission and other common failures. Within the last month our family has experienced two transmission failures in two different chrysler vehicles we own.the first, a 1999 chrysler sebring, had the transmission catastrophically fail after only 60,000 miles.the second, a 1998 dodge intrepid, had the clutches in the transmission fail after 79,000 miles.both of these cars were extremely well cared for and driven normally.both vehicles have been serviced according to the service manual supplied with the car.as a consumer, its hard to see how a company can charge $2,000.00 to replace a part of a car that failed without reason.i will never buy a chrysler product again. *la

Service dealership claims wires were exposed as a result of some previous repair.this vehicle had no previous repair work except for a sensor which was replaced under warranty.terefore, the malfunction had to result from factory workmanship or the dealer performing the warranty sensor replacement.yet, i'm getting no assistance from dodge in this power train control module replacement, which is costing in excess of $1,000.the vehicle is approximately 6,000 miles past warranty coverage.i would recommend that no one purchase a dodge product because, obviously, dodge will not stand behind their products.

I was getting my kids out of the car and my son got in the front seat and was able to move the car out of park and into reverse on my automatic transmission. I am able to move the shift into all gears without the car runnig or a key in the ignition. My car with my son rolled out of the driveway and across a street and into a lake on top of a park bench.. I was not parked on a hill. I was in flat ground. Dodge reports i have a inoperative shift interlock and they are not responsible for the problem, but. 685,000 dodge cirrus, strattus, chrysler sebring, and plymouth breeze in 1998 were all recalled for this problem. Cars with automatic tranmissions canhave a nonfunctional interlock system causing them to roll away. After the my car came to a rest my son fell out of the car into the water. It was listed as nhtsa recall number 98v183. My son did not have to depress any brakes to change the gears on my car and have it roll away . I must use the parking brreak at all times. If all other dodge cars had this problem why would intrepid be the exception. It si all made by the same company and proably the same parts.

Power driver seat moves back and forth on stops and had been replaced.now again, i am having the same problem but will not take it to original dodge dealership where purchased.everything done there in past has been problem and never corrected.other problems exist and will have it done out of state at another dealership that worked on it that did very good work and did not try to make me feel as though i am crazy.

On a frontal impact, with about a 30 mph speed change, the right seat bottom moved forward as its anchor failed, and the split seat back failed, with a barn door effect due to poor latch placement, caused owner's 15 years old daughter to submarine forward causing the lap belt to ride up over her pelvis at the same time seat back collapsed on her, which caused terrible abdominal injuries, a chance fracture at l-3, and a severed spinal cord resulting in paraplegia.three point belt was being properly utilized at the time of the collision, and the trunk was lightly loaded.

The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 156,000.

There was a squeaking noise coming from the vehicle, when the brakes were applied.

I started feeling a pulse in the brakes pedal at just over 20,000 miles.i felt it must be a defective rotor so i contacted the dealer and the dodge national hotline.they made me bring in the car for inspection, where for $24 they proceeded to tell me after 5 minutes that i have warped and pitted brake rotors.they will not cover them under the 3 year 36k warranty.instead they tell me that this is normal wear and they want $275 to replace the rotors.i checked the nhtsa site and found 4 out of 36 other complaints were about the same pulsing rotors.i wrote letters to dodge to no avail.i refuse to pay them to put the same oem junk parts on the car.bendix or raybesto do not yet sell rotors for this new of a car.the brake system is not 100% safe and i feel that the dealership and dodge are giving me the run around.what do you suggest i do?

Vehicle is experiencing problems with the front disc brakes, they have warped twice and been turned twice, consumer feels the design is defective due to needing replacement approximately every 36000 miles.

Rotors and calipers replaced 4 times since purchase, there was a grinding noise when applying brakes.

I had my brakes looked at when i kept feeling severe pulsating in the steering wheel and pedal, they had to replace my rotors due to being warped but my brakes now still do not work right after being replaced 4 times they still vibrate severly and there are thousands of dodge intrepid owners who are experiencing the same problems. Thank you.

Consumer states front brakes are grinding.dealer found right front brakes grinding and replaced faulty caliper, hose and rotors, packed and bled brakes.

At about 20,000 miles i noticed a pulsing or shimmy when pressing the brakes.it appears that the front rotors have already warped, under normal use.my tires show no sign of unnecessary wear and have been rotated regularly.the dealer and dodge are aware of the problem and say that this is normal and will not cover it under the warranty. If it is normal for rotars to wear every 20,000 miles than this will be the last dodge or chrysler product i will buy!.

The front rotors have warped 3 times in 55000 miles.the brake pads however have not needed replacement.

Disc brake rotors have warped 3 times in 92,500 miles. Driver feels heavy steering wheel shake when brakes are applied.

At 12,200 miles we noticed a warped brake rotor (left front, if not both front rotors).the warp in the rotor has become quite severe.

Brakes would pulsate. When consumer applies brakes vehicle will not stop. Rotors went bad, and had to replace them 3 times within 3 years.contacted chrysler.

My rotors warped at 18000 mi. I had to bring the car in twice to have the clunking in the steering wheel corrected and now the car pulls to the left. Today, the transmission stuck in 2nd. Gear. In other words, i have had many of the problems that others have described on your web site.

Power window on the doors sometimeswon't work where dealer had told the consumer there was some problems with the motor.also, vehicle pulsates when brakes are applied/ replaced front brake rotors.

Front rotors warped at 20000mi.dodge will not correct prob.faulty materials.

1998 dodge intrepid--rack and pinion failed/broke. I had pulled up to the curb to retrieve the mail and as i turned the steering wheel to the right to pull away, i felt/heard a loud pop. The steering wheel was no longer connected to the rack and pinion as the r&p has failed/broken. The steering wheel would freely turn but the wheels were not moving. I had to have the car towed to the dealer who replaced the rack and pinion steering at a cost of $650.00. Fortunately, the dealer split the cost with me as i had just bought the car (used) 30 days prior. I was still out $350.00. My biggest concern is, what would have happened to my family, specifically my wife and my 2 year old son had that part failed while i was on the highway or in heavy city traffic. It could have cost us our lives...i also have a slight shimmy in the steering wheel when the brakes are applied. I'm guessing a warped rotor as i recall reading something about that being an intrepid problem also....i warn any of you who are having steering problems to get it fixed before you drive it....the rack and pinion steering system that wont be recalled could have cost us our lives.

The front brakes on my intrepid started pulsing at around 20,000 miles.the car was only 18 months old.the dealer said this was normal wear and would not warranty the repair.no after market parts were yet available, and i refused to put poor quality dodge parts back on the car with no guarantee they would not warp again in another year.in my 20 years of driving i have never had a car need rotors until they had at least 75,000 miles.interestingly enough dodge stratus's were recalled for defective rotors, i bet some intrepid rotors came from the same factory.i drove the car for another 10,000 miles, with the annoying pulse, until auto parts store stared carrying replacement rotors from reputable companies.i just recently put new pads and rotors on the car and the pulsing has gone away.needless to say, i was not happy with dodge and their lack of willingness to stand behind their product.i will not buy another dodge until i am satisfied their customer service means buiness and is not just a series of flashy tv ads.

When applying brakes vehicle shake excessively. Dealer have replaced the brake rotors three times within a 2 year period. Problem still exists.

Dt*: the contact stated the brake lines rusted causing brake fluid to leak out around the muffler creating a fire hazard.the brakes failed once while driving 30 mph.the brake pedal went to the floor.prior to the brake failure, the brake light illuminated on the dashboard.the contact added brake fluid as an attempt to remedy the problem.shortly after this incident, the contact noticed brake fluid leaking from the vehicle again. The dealership was contacted.

Dt*:the contact stated the brake pedal was depressed while traveling at 50 mph and it went completely floor. The brake returned by a spring, but there was only around 2% of braking power. The automatic transmission was down shifted, but the transmission failed to move from the drive position, although the lever indicated an auto stick position.the accelerator pedal was released and the vehicle eventually slowed to a stop on its own.the vehicle was driven slowly to a brake repair shop where it was determined the brake line was corroded and ruptured.the brake line was replaced.the vehicle has not been inspected concerning the transmission problem.the manufacturer has not been alerted.the vehicle is being used in a salt belt state and there have been other corrosion issues, such as the master cylinder and brake rotors.updated 07/05/06.

Severe steering problems. Wheel locks when turned completely to right or left. Wanders on dry pavement, almost impossible to drive in wet weather. Have been told to replace steering rack and inner tie rods.

Power steering feels like there is no power steering ,no power steering leaks belts ok and no noise under hood.

I was driving around 40mph, came to a complete stop in order to make a right turn on to another street. Once making this right turn the vehicle's steering would not respond to the wheel being turned back to the left. This caused the vehicle to strike the curb. Once stopped the steering seemed to be corrected but this has happened at least two more times. The inner and outer tire rods have been replaced along with the struts and have had multiple alignments none of which have fixed the problem. Now the problem has been diagnosed as the rack and pinion.

Vehicle suddenly accelerated after shifting into drive with foot on brakes. Vehicle hit a tree.also, steering locked up. Manufacturer sending inspector to check vehicle.

Vehicle is experiencing problems with the steering gear mounting bushings. There is a crunching type of noise heard from the steering when sitting at idle and cranking wheel. This vehicle was assembled in jan. 1998 and is not old enough or has not had harsh enough treatment to have the steering rack and pinion fail.we feel this is a definite safety hazard since the steering can lock up during a turn (it did for us) which could cause a serious accident since the car would be going in an unintended direction.i found several examples of complaints about this exact topic and feel that the company should recall the vehicles or reimburse those of us who have had to incurr unnecessary repair expenses due to either low quality parts or bad design.

Heat & a/c only works when on high oil light comes on whenever you stop the car driver side window works when it wants to car starts when ever it gets ready i had to replace the cam and crank sensor $400 now after all that there is a loud knocking noise under the hood found out it's the enegine and it needs to be replaced

Starter went out.

Driver's power window did not go into the closed position correctly.took to dealer and found that the plastic clip on the bottom of the window that goes into the regulator track was broken.dealer said this was a common problem but not covered under my warranty.can not be fixed unless the whole window is replaced.seems that something that is used as much as the driver's window should not be made with a plastic component!!also it should be repaired by replacing the component not the whole window.bad engineering i would conclude.

Consumer states the window stitch is inoperatable.the window lock has failed.

Power window on the doors sometimeswon't work where dealer had told the consumer there was some problems with the motor.also, vehicle pulsates when brakes are applied/ replaced front brake rotors.

Powertrain -- check engine light illuminated as coming to a stop, and car jolted. From that point on, car stuck in second gear. 24 days out of warranty, with under 32k miles. Dodge would not pay for repair even though it is a known issue with dodge. Windows stuck in up position on 3 occasions, affecting rf, lf, and rr windows. Motors replaced under warrenty.

Power windows on all doors are inoperable. Windows will not come down. Also, power operated doors will periodically not open frominside. Dealer has replaced parts which has not corrected the problem.please give any further details.

Vehicle was parked in the front of the house. Consumer went inside thevehicle to start it up and without warning the passenger's side wheel sheared off, causingthe vehicle to drop to the ground. Consumer hadvehicle towed the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that wheel needed to be replaced due to corrosion.
