Since owning the 1995 dodge intrepid we purchased brand new, these are the problems experienced since owning and the problems being experienced now.we have had steering problems which required the power steering pump to be replaced, also some arm had to be replaced due to the right front wheel wobbling.our electric locks have engaged as if holding the switch for a couple of seconds on the passenger side and the driver side.never was fixed due to dealer not duplicating.our ac/heat electronic controls stuck and would not respond to any commands and constantly was blowing hot air, pulling fuse was only remedy.electronic gauges will not always show correct information ie. Fuel level, temp, fuel used, compass, ..etc, turning car on/off will usually correct it.our fuel rails has been replaced under warranty recall, but i still will smell fuel inside.our passenger side air bag is warped.our headlights will not come on at times and even go out while driving.flashing high/low beam steering column switch will usually make them come on.our most recent problem and the state our vehicle is in right now is smoke is coming from the steering column and it is very hot and i believe a fire is trying to start.the car is parked at the location this started at and is not being driven.

Air bags sensor light intermittently would come on and stay on when vehicle is started. Dealer inspected vehicle and informed consumer that no problem could be found. Also, since transmission had been rebuilt. The control panel failed to operate, and gear shift failed to light up. While driving on highway at appoximately 60-65 mph,transmission appeared to downshift to low and all lights would go out. Dealer/manufacturer notified, and problem stillexits. Can nhtsa help in this matter.

The contact owns a 1995 dodge intrepid. While driving 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle did not stop and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. Dt:the contact stated while driving the front passenger tire fell off thevehicle. Had the inner and outer tie rods replaced twice.didone replacement before the tire fell off.the second replacement was done after the tire came off.the replacements did not remedy the problem. While drivingit felt as though the wheelswere falling off.when hitting a bump while drivingthere was a snapping noise from underneath the vehicle.another concern was theelectrical system.only one headlight will work on bright and only one will work on dim.the contactreplaced both bulbs in the headlights, but this did not remedy the problem.he checked the fuses, and there were no problems with them.also, the headlight switch fell off without being hit or knocked off.

I have a 1995 dodge intrepid.until 4 months ago, it never had a problem, only did routine maintenance and that was constantly done.it has a new transmission and radiator (under extended warranty), and new starter, alternator, and battery.the fuel pump was replaced about 2-3 years ago.four months ago, the car started to act up.first, i noticed a "burnt oil or anti-freeze" smell.i took it to my mechanic, who i have had for more than 15 years.he couldn't find any leaks or problems and reminded me that all the hoses and accessories were replace a year before.he said that he saw nothing dripping or building up anywhere.a week later, i would drive it somewhere, get out and do whatever it was i needed to do, go back and it wouldn't start.everything sounds normal, like it wants to start, but doesn't.if i wait 30-90 minutes and try again, it will start right up and a check engine light would come on, but go back off within a few minutes.a month later things got worse.it started to die while driving.i would be in the car for less than 10 miles and all the lights on the dash would "flash" and the car would die.it takes between 2-3 hours before getting it to restart when this happens.this puts me in serious danger as the car no longer has power steering or power brakes and i live on a mountain with no where i can get off the road.i have nearly been hit/killed when this has happened.since then, i can't go 1 mile without it dying or not start again.as a matter-of-fact, if i leave it idling in my driveway, it will die with 2-4 minutes.i have taken it to my shop 4 times and 2 other ones trying to find out what is wrong.they all say that since the "check engine" light only flashes and then goes off, the computer can't catch the problem.sometimes they think it is the fuel pump or fuel lines; sometimes they think it is electrical; most of the time they just have no idea what is wrong!

1995 dodge intrepid.consumer writes in regards vehicle stalling while driving. The consumer stated when the vehicle stalled, the power steering failed and it was difficult to steer the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to a repair shop, where the ignition switch was replaced.

I was driving down the road when my car just died. I didn't get any flashing lights, check engine light or anything. It was as is someone had turned the car off with out moving the key from the on position. Once i come to a stop, i can sit for a little bit and then the car will start back up as if nothing ever happened. I have recently had a few issues with some other things that were resolved by replacing the ignition switch but it didn't seem to fix this issue. I took the car to a repair shop and had the diagnostics ran on it but it didn't come back with any codes. I often drive with my wife and kids in the car so now i fear that this may cause us to get in a wreck.

Since purchase in 2000, front suspension problems, dealer only offered boot, not replacement of whole axle. Mechanic said boot would not fix problem. Air conditioner went out in 2001, while traveling, cost $500 to replace plus rental. Ignition switch was replaced in 2002, due to not operating properly. Could not remove key. Cost around $150 to repair. Now, there is a strong smell of gas in the car, while in use. Mpg seems to be lower than should be. This is my 3rd intrepid and the only one i have had excessive problems with.

Recall # 98v184000 chrysler/fuel leakage; since having recall work performed consumer has experienced numerous types of problem with vehicle. Owner had no trouble with the vehicle prior to having recall work performed.transmission was rebuilt/spark plugs/ enginemanifoldand fuel rail gasket replaced. So far repairs have totaled over $700.00.

Transmission slips out of reverse and forward gears.does not want to shift into 4th gear (overdrive) at 45 mph, causing vehicle to shudder.incorrect ecm installed at factory.

Recasll 04v021000 concerning floor shift ignition park interlock. Consumer stated that one month prior to this recall had this work done at an aftermarket repair shop because the price that dealershipcharged was too expensive. When the key is in the ignition its starts the car, but the key cannot come out. This has happened at least 7 times. Has not seen dealer.

Consumer complained that after operating vehicle she would attempt to removeignition key from ignition.key would stick and become unremovable.dealership removed center console and cleaned/lubricatedshifter rod to correct this defect.please provide any additional information/attachments.

Electrical system problem wherein at startup vehicle either only clicks or starts with no gauges working for several minutes.when this occurs the vehicle will not accelerate to more than 30 mph.dealer states that starter needs replacement, but vehicle has been intermittent with this problem for longer than a starter on the brink would last.apparent electrical problem that computer diagnostic does not confirm.only code involves the at module not providing signal.all such components are controlled by the pcm (power control module).please investigate.

Purchased car on 8/11/14, drove it home and on 8/12/14 started car and say gas spraying out of injectors on top of motor. All injector seals were bad and had to be replaced, same with valve cover gaskets oil was running down on exhaust manifolds. Both were fire hazards, 8/27/14, right side axle is bad and bearing in differential is bad. This car has a 4/15 inspection sticker on windshield, how could this car pass the va state inspection with this many problems? and all brake pads had to be replaced. They were worn out to.

Automatic transmission cooler lines were leaking transmission fluid ontolower radiator hose ofvehicle. Transmission: metal shavings was found in the transmission gear. This made it difficult to shift transmission into a gear.also, engine lifters went out & had to be reinstalled; and carbon had built up in the engine. Causing it tostall whenevervehicle accelerated from a stopped position.

Timing belt tensioner pulley failed to rotate due to bearing failure, sheared off pulley mounting bolt which dropped into crankshaft, causing damage to crankshaft.

Vehicle seemed to be maintained well and in good condition. After purchasing vehicle and normal driving started experiencing buring rubber smell from engine. Problem was oil leaking from valve cover gaskets onto engine. Had valve cover gaskets replaced. Smelt burning rubber smell again, bad gasket for oil filler cap too. Replaced, problem corrected. Car would sometimes perform well with good acceleration, sometimes transmission would not seem to downshift, accelerator pedal would be to floor and vehicle would barely move. Would happen unexpectedly, extremely dangerous when entering freeway, passing or merging. Vehicle would sometimes shift rough, then sometimes would shift quickly and smoothly. Fluid ok mopar. Took vehicle to five star service center, had technician drive vehicle, i drove vehicle and clearly duplicated problem. I had the pedal to the floor and vehicle would only accelerate very very slowly, technician stated this was normal because vehicle is in 3rd gear. Sometimes vehicle would even downshift and had great acceleration as fast as 50mph and then sometimes would not downshift or barely move at speeds as slow as 35mph. It is not normal to have the accelerator pedal to the floor with a 170hp vehicle with the vehicle barely accelerating or extremely poor response.i beleive that these chrysler transmissions or their control modules have serious issues. Well i tried to use the vehicle anyway, it seemed to work ok otherwise. While driving with friends smelt bad sharp odor almost like urine. Could not find source of this. Found out transmission leaking transmission cooling lines were cause of odor. Transmission started making clu-clunking noise and front end would lift up excessively like a 727. Found out transmission mounts were broken and front pump seal was also leaking. Service would have cost $2,000. Traded vehicle in, lost thousands of dollars. Independent mechanic stated that pump seal and transmission in a car should last at least 125,000 miles.

Rocker arm and rocker arm support failureon 26 sept '03 while driving to work my 1995 intrepid (3.3 liter) began making a "ticking"or "clacking" noise.aftter discussion at work,the noise was diagnosed as a missing cylinder, the ignition systems should be looked at. I brought it home and replaced the plugs and wires and checked the spark. All normal, still the clacking noise.after dropping the car at my neighborhood mechanic who pulled the valve cover and notified me that the tower supporting the aft end of the drivers side rocker arm axis had sheared off and that the lifting rod and rocker arm were damaged beyond repair. Requiring replacement of the head and ancillary components. Further the mechanic said this was a common problem with dodge 3.3 motors and that there should be a recall.i also contacted several people who have or have owned the same car (1995 intrepid) and at least two reported the same problem at a smilar milage.

Engine head gasket allowed coolant to leak down to a level that the $1200/each heads warped.tie rod bushings have been replaced three times so far (once by the dealer and they failed within 10k miles and barrett dodge would not replace) and now the left bushing needs replacing again.if you travel a certain speed and make a turn the wheel shakes violently and you have to come to a complete stop to be able to make it stop.

I have a 1995 dodge intrepid.until 4 months ago, it never had a problem, only did routine maintenance and that was constantly done.it has a new transmission and radiator (under extended warranty), and new starter, alternator, and battery.the fuel pump was replaced about 2-3 years ago.four months ago, the car started to act up.first, i noticed a "burnt oil or anti-freeze" smell.i took it to my mechanic, who i have had for more than 15 years.he couldn't find any leaks or problems and reminded me that all the hoses and accessories were replace a year before.he said that he saw nothing dripping or building up anywhere.a week later, i would drive it somewhere, get out and do whatever it was i needed to do, go back and it wouldn't start.everything sounds normal, like it wants to start, but doesn't.if i wait 30-90 minutes and try again, it will start right up and a check engine light would come on, but go back off within a few minutes.a month later things got worse.it started to die while driving.i would be in the car for less than 10 miles and all the lights on the dash would "flash" and the car would die.it takes between 2-3 hours before getting it to restart when this happens.this puts me in serious danger as the car no longer has power steering or power brakes and i live on a mountain with no where i can get off the road.i have nearly been hit/killed when this has happened.since then, i can't go 1 mile without it dying or not start again.as a matter-of-fact, if i leave it idling in my driveway, it will die with 2-4 minutes.i have taken it to my shop 4 times and 2 other ones trying to find out what is wrong.they all say that since the "check engine" light only flashes and then goes off, the computer can't catch the problem.sometimes they think it is the fuel pump or fuel lines; sometimes they think it is electrical; most of the time they just have no idea what is wrong!

I was driving down the road when my car just died. I didn't get any flashing lights, check engine light or anything. It was as is someone had turned the car off with out moving the key from the on position. Once i come to a stop, i can sit for a little bit and then the car will start back up as if nothing ever happened. I have recently had a few issues with some other things that were resolved by replacing the ignition switch but it didn't seem to fix this issue. I took the car to a repair shop and had the diagnostics ran on it but it didn't come back with any codes. I often drive with my wife and kids in the car so now i fear that this may cause us to get in a wreck.

I bought this car in 1995.......it has been in the garage for major repairs so many times i can't count them...but i do have documentation....i called the nys lemon law number but was 2 weeks past the statute of limitations...they told me to get a lawyer......since the statute has run out....fox chrysler has had the car for at least 3 weeks in the last year & has given me a rental car (under my extended warranty) ...i feel forced to sell this car because the warranty will run outmay 31, 2001....it has had the transmission rebuilt, the a/c replaced, the rotors were replaced at 13982 miles & the replacements are bad again....they were just turned at 30000 miles...the turn signals, door locks, headlamps (had moisture in them), airbag cover on passenger side was raised & curled from day 1...the tie rods were replaced in 1999 at my cost because fox said that they were not covered under my warranty.....i am looking for an attorney to get this vechile replaced under the ny lemon law....and would like to know if there is any other recource i can take....this is a partial list of the problems with this car that i purchased new .

Since owning the 1995 dodge intrepid we purchased brand new, these are the problems experienced since owning and the problems being experienced now.we have had steering problems which required the power steering pump to be replaced, also some arm had to be replaced due to the right front wheel wobbling.our electric locks have engaged as if holding the switch for a couple of seconds on the passenger side and the driver side.never was fixed due to dealer not duplicating.our ac/heat electronic controls stuck and would not respond to any commands and constantly was blowing hot air, pulling fuse was only remedy.electronic gauges will not always show correct information ie. Fuel level, temp, fuel used, compass, ..etc, turning car on/off will usually correct it.our fuel rails has been replaced under warranty recall, but i still will smell fuel inside.our passenger side air bag is warped.our headlights will not come on at times and even go out while driving.flashing high/low beam steering column switch will usually make them come on.our most recent problem and the state our vehicle is in right now is smoke is coming from the steering column and it is very hot and i believe a fire is trying to start.the car is parked at the location this started at and is not being driven.

The headlights in the car are one component, which there is no way of cleaning the inside of the lenses. Over time they get a cloudyeffect which dulls the brightness of the headlights. The car i have just purchase has this problem with the headlights, which is a 1995 intrepid. If these headlights are supposed to beairtight which no moisture is to get in then i think it is the maker of this productor of the car manufactures to replace these headlights.the cost of these lights is a outrages price and should not have to be paid by the consumer. You will probablysay it is because of the year of the car and that parts wear out . The priceof some parts in order to maintain a caris retarded , but that comes with owning a vehicle. I do not think that this part should fall under the same category . With the way the headlights are i think it is a safety problem, it inpairs your visionbecause of the dullness of the lights. Consumer noticed over the last few years, the headlights growing dimmer, one of the head light lenses broke and was replaced and consumer noticed a significant increase in light from the new lens, the material that reflects the light in the old lens had tarnished and was not reflecting the light.

Purchased car on 8/11/14, drove it home and on 8/12/14 started car and say gas spraying out of injectors on top of motor. All injector seals were bad and had to be replaced, same with valve cover gaskets oil was running down on exhaust manifolds. Both were fire hazards, 8/27/14, right side axle is bad and bearing in differential is bad. This car has a 4/15 inspection sticker on windshield, how could this car pass the va state inspection with this many problems? and all brake pads had to be replaced. They were worn out to.

Fuel line corroded through near engine. According to dealer this failure is unreasonable on vehicles of this age as the part supposed to be corrosion resistant. Vehicle posed great fire hazard as the leak developed right by the engine. Other fuel line also shows signs of corrosion although it has not leaked. Chance of part failure is impossible to predict and failure occurs at any speed or without the vehicle being used. Fuel lines are expensive parts and replacement is labor intensive. Owner's cost in this case was $614. Manufacturer has been contacted with a copy of the repair invoice from dealer. Ts

Since purchase in 2000, front suspension problems, dealer only offered boot, not replacement of whole axle. Mechanic said boot would not fix problem. Air conditioner went out in 2001, while traveling, cost $500 to replace plus rental. Ignition switch was replaced in 2002, due to not operating properly. Could not remove key. Cost around $150 to repair. Now, there is a strong smell of gas in the car, while in use. Mpg seems to be lower than should be. This is my 3rd intrepid and the only one i have had excessive problems with.

After starting car on the morning december 8,1999 i could smell gas fumes. I immediately shut car off and examined the engine. I noticed fuel leakage near the fuel injector rail. I proceeded to dealership (central dodge in raynham) and purchased 6 new fuel injectors, assuming that was the problem and the least expensive. I replaced injectors that evening and still had fuel leaking. I had my wife come out and assist me by turning the key so i could see where leak was coming from. Almost immediately after stariting the car i saw fuel streaming from the left side of the fuel rail. A fire started and i immediately put it out. After going to same dealership to purchase fuel rail i was told about the recall. They towed the vehicle into their dealership and replaced entire fuel rail assembly at no cost to me. Then came the bad news; they contacted me and told me the engine was gone and they are claiming no responsibility because they said i cannot prove the fuel rail leak was the cause of the fire. So i am currently paying someone $3800. To replace the engine and i was hoping for your assistance in this matter. Stopped at mcdonalds, saw smoke coming from under hood. A man got out of his car and said my car was on fire.he went into mcdonalds and got a fire exsinguisher and put it out.the firemen said it looked like it started at the trottle body and injector.also the mechanic said it looked like it started at the fuel rail.i noticed the recall on here and have been told that chrsyler has not determined which cars are affected.my extended warranty will not cover this because fire was involved, and chrsyler will not cover it because they say they are not aware of any recalls on my car.my auto insurance will have pick this up and i do not think this is right.

The fuel riser on my 1995 intrepid leaks gasoline onto the engine.consumerchecked the internet and found other owners as far back as 1993 having the same problem.it is definitely a design defect and a safety hazard.yet, the manufacturer is not doing a recall and is charging 300-400 to repair the problem.a fire is inevidble so you don't have an option but to get it repaired or stop driving the car until you do so.i think the manufacturer needs to do a recall on this part and repair it for free before someone dies if it hasn't happened already.

Since owning the 1995 dodge intrepid we purchased brand new, these are the problems experienced since owning and the problems being experienced now.we have had steering problems which required the power steering pump to be replaced, also some arm had to be replaced due to the right front wheel wobbling.our electric locks have engaged as if holding the switch for a couple of seconds on the passenger side and the driver side.never was fixed due to dealer not duplicating.our ac/heat electronic controls stuck and would not respond to any commands and constantly was blowing hot air, pulling fuse was only remedy.electronic gauges will not always show correct information ie. Fuel level, temp, fuel used, compass, ..etc, turning car on/off will usually correct it.our fuel rails has been replaced under warranty recall, but i still will smell fuel inside.our passenger side air bag is warped.our headlights will not come on at times and even go out while driving.flashing high/low beam steering column switch will usually make them come on.our most recent problem and the state our vehicle is in right now is smoke is coming from the steering column and it is very hot and i believe a fire is trying to start.the car is parked at the location this started at and is not being driven.

The contact owns a 1995 dodge intrepid. When the contact started the vehicle, fuel fumes seeped into the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a fuel leak near the intake manifold in the motor. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The trunk light bulb came in contact with a suitcase in the trunk and resulted in a fire.the light had no cover on it.*nlmthe vehicle was diagnosed as totaled due to the smoke damage.scc

There was a humming noise coming fromback of vehicle.left and right doors do not lock. Consumer has small kids that sit in back seats.

Hood supports do not hold hood open and it drops down on your head when your working on the engine. Torque converter shutter while travelling at highway speeds. They have replaced the torque converter 3 times and the whole transmission once. This is a design defect in the torque converter and has never been corrected or improved by dodge.

Headlights do not seem to be adequate at night. Also, reflection of dashboard onto windshield in day obscures vision.furthermore, a/c evaporator malfunctioned, and trunk won't stay up.

The trunk of vehicle did not stay up on its own.the trunk had to have something propped under it in order for it to stay up.the manufacturer and the dealer have been notified of the problem.

The front parking brake cable broke, dealer replaced the front cable and parking brake pedals, consumer feels that the failure was caused by metal fatigue in the cable, the design does not follow accepted engineering practices for cable diameter and minimum bending radius of the cable.

Dodge transmission on intrepids, caravans, and neons have a history of failing and needing to be replaced or rebuilt. My vehicle only has 55800 miles on it all original. Even though the car is 15 years old it has always been maintained since it was purchased from the dealer brand new in 1995. I believe that if dodge is not held responsible for the problems then someone can seriously get injured from them. Whether it be from the transmission failing on the highway and causing accidents or something breaking while just driving and causing serious injury.

Dt:the caller had recall 2c45182 work done onaugust 17, 2005. Two days later while driving the vehicle itshifted itself into reverse and stalled in traffic. Dealer said she will have to pay to have it towedand repaired. Dealer said they wont even look at it until she paid.. She said she had no trouble before the recall work was done. Manufacturer said to take it back to the dealer.

While driving could try to slow down andvehicle will start feeling like another vehicle was pushing fromrear. Manufacturer was contacted.the manufacuturer was aware of the transmission problem and was willing to accept part of the responsibility.

The transmissions in these cars are crap. The seals being used are undersized causing the transmissions to fail. At first you dont even notice the problem but at about 50,000 miles the transmissions start to have trouble shifting into gear, up shifting and down shifting when cold. Chrysler is aware of this problem proven by the well written tech. Bullitens. Cars shouldn't have transmission problems at such low miles. If it was an isolated inccident i could acceptit but its not and i'm having troublr believing that i'm expected to pay for shoddy work.

I have read of many 4 speed cc transmission failures and that fact has also been confirmed with my dealership. My unit is no longer under factory warranty. My unit has meticulously been maintained in hopes of avoiding problems..to no avail. After owning this car for only 9 monthes , it has been a nightmare.after i bought the car i started to hear all kinds of comments from previous intrepid owners as to how unsafe and what a lemon these cars were. Soon after we bought the car we called the dealer. They told us there was nothing that could be done. The warranty was out. They also told me that they did not think anything was wrong and i did not know what i was talking about.the car would make a severe slip/buck when going up hills. The rear seat of my car was smoldering and giving off a lot of smoke and fumes with the exhaust problem.i was very alarmed since the back seat is very close to the gas tank.on the transmission and air conditioner both systems have had to be replced 3 or 4 times and usually about every 50k.

We hadanother dodge dealership install a new transmission line. 3) a week later, the transmission would not shift into reverse unless the car was shifted into drive then back to reverse several times. While driving the car, it would shug along in and out of gear until it decided to shift into the correct gear. We ended up getting the transmission rebuilt. Several transmission shops that we went to for estimates said that they see an unusually high number of chrysler products (even 1998 models) that required the transmission to be rebuilt. We spent $1,500 in having the transmission rebuilt and in time and $ lost to fixing the first two transmission problems. We have taken excellent care of this car and believe that the transmission should last the life of the car . This problem should be investigated, as there are design engineering problems in the chrysler transmissions.

I purchased this vehicle with the intent on having last through the pay-off.i am very concerned about this happening.at 30,000 mile the air-conditioning system went out completely and had to be replaced.at 50,000 the transmission went out and had to be replaced.a transmission was replaced at a dodge dealer but i was only given 12,000 mile warranty.at 70,000 miles the front-end struts, strut plates, inner tie rods, and other was replace.this front end is still not right as it drifts and has too much play in the steering.many others with the exact same repairs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this car in 1995.......it has been in the garage for major repairs so many times i can't count them...but i do have documentation....i called the nys lemon law number but was 2 weeks past the statute of limitations...they told me to get a lawyer......since the statute has run out....fox chrysler has had the car for at least 3 weeks in the last year & has given me a rental car (under my extended warranty) ...i feel forced to sell this car because the warranty will run outmay 31, 2001....it has had the transmission rebuilt, the a/c replaced, the rotors were replaced at 13982 miles & the replacements are bad again....they were just turned at 30000 miles...the turn signals, door locks, headlamps (had moisture in them), airbag cover on passenger side was raised & curled from day 1...the tie rods were replaced in 1999 at my cost because fox said that they were not covered under my warranty.....i am looking for an attorney to get this vechile replaced under the ny lemon law....and would like to know if there is any other recource i can take....this is a partial list of the problems with this car that i purchased new .

When first starting vehicle it hesitates going into reverse. The vehicle chatters when going through gears and speeds up to 15 mph. Dealer was contacted and repaired the valve body, and reprogrammed the transmission control. Inner steering bushing replaced now the steering rack knocking and not turning to right.

Factory struts(suspension) are inadequate to support the weight of the vehicle. My strut mount/plate &bolts broke at 55 mile per hour & the strut went through the strut housing/plate. The steering/suspension system is completely affected when the struts begin to fail on all vehicles. When struts fail springs also fail causing even more stress on the other steering/suspension parts(all bushings, tie rods. Control arms, ball joints, cv joints, transaxle, sway bar.i hope im making sense, this needs serious examination as clunk/ bump noises every intrepid are bad struts or bad strut mount/bolts which immediately indicate your suspension/steering system is being banged up.the inner tie rod bolts in steering rack back out or try to due to torn bushings in the inner tie rods at the steering rack center. These bushings tear due to worn struts that put stress on tie rodssway bar& steering rack mount bushings both compress with the extra stress of failing struts.steering rack shifts due to bad inner tie rod bushings causing play in your tie rods and the steering rack mount bushings now compressed cause the rack to shift also. Same with sway bar bushings&any other suspension parts and steering when this happens such as inner tie rods, outer tie rods, cv joints, transaxle, ball joints,all bushings,linkages,mounts,cradlecar was built defectively as the weight of the vehicle is too much force for the struts that come factory installed. There needs to be an immediate call back on the struts with a service order to examine and repair torn or compressed bushings in the inner tie rods/steering rack mounting/sway bar/ball joint/control arm/outer tie rod/along with any damage to the cv joint&transaxles due to the design defect using inadequate struts for the vehicles weight!this may seem like an extreme request but since they were negligentto never report the inadequacy of the struts vs design in all the complaints on steering/suspension a recall is in order.

Since owning the 1995 dodge intrepid we purchased brand new, these are the problems experienced since owning and the problems being experienced now.we have had steering problems which required the power steering pump to be replaced, also some arm had to be replaced due to the right front wheel wobbling.our electric locks have engaged as if holding the switch for a couple of seconds on the passenger side and the driver side.never was fixed due to dealer not duplicating.our ac/heat electronic controls stuck and would not respond to any commands and constantly was blowing hot air, pulling fuse was only remedy.electronic gauges will not always show correct information ie. Fuel level, temp, fuel used, compass, ..etc, turning car on/off will usually correct it.our fuel rails has been replaced under warranty recall, but i still will smell fuel inside.our passenger side air bag is warped.our headlights will not come on at times and even go out while driving.flashing high/low beam steering column switch will usually make them come on.our most recent problem and the state our vehicle is in right now is smoke is coming from the steering column and it is very hot and i believe a fire is trying to start.the car is parked at the location this started at and is not being driven.

Dealership informed me that chrysler's warranty did not cover this defect and if not repaired it could lead to an accident and non function of the vehicle this should be a recall item it dangerous when you have limited control of steering and the engine sound like it was going to fall out when you stopped.

Paint washing off car. The factory paint is peeling off the car. I took it to the body shop and they said it was bad primer from the factory. That the car had to be completely stripped down and repainted.

While backing out of the driveway the front driver's side of the the bumper hit a snowbank and cracked. Vehicle was driven at about 5mph. The dealer replaced the bumper. Owner says it only happens during cold weather.

Factory struts(suspension) are inadequate to support the weight of the vehicle. My strut mount/plate &bolts broke at 55 mile per hour & the strut went through the strut housing/plate. The steering/suspension system is completely affected when the struts begin to fail on all vehicles. When struts fail springs also fail causing even more stress on the other steering/suspension parts(all bushings, tie rods. Control arms, ball joints, cv joints, transaxle, sway bar.i hope im making sense, this needs serious examination as clunk/ bump noises every intrepid are bad struts or bad strut mount/bolts which immediately indicate your suspension/steering system is being banged up.the inner tie rod bolts in steering rack back out or try to due to torn bushings in the inner tie rods at the steering rack center. These bushings tear due to worn struts that put stress on tie rodssway bar& steering rack mount bushings both compress with the extra stress of failing struts.steering rack shifts due to bad inner tie rod bushings causing play in your tie rods and the steering rack mount bushings now compressed cause the rack to shift also. Same with sway bar bushings&any other suspension parts and steering when this happens such as inner tie rods, outer tie rods, cv joints, transaxle, ball joints,all bushings,linkages,mounts,cradlecar was built defectively as the weight of the vehicle is too much force for the struts that come factory installed. There needs to be an immediate call back on the struts with a service order to examine and repair torn or compressed bushings in the inner tie rods/steering rack mounting/sway bar/ball joint/control arm/outer tie rod/along with any damage to the cv joint&transaxles due to the design defect using inadequate struts for the vehicles weight!this may seem like an extreme request but since they were negligentto never report the inadequacy of the struts vs design in all the complaints on steering/suspension a recall is in order.

Tire had major tread separation, i had read about this problem in the local newspaper, but assume no action was taken. This is a very dangerous situation and could have lead to a bad accident had it not been descovered in time

The trans only works when at low speeds, too much gas and then it starts to slip or has no gear at all. This has caused problems when trying to cross an intercetion and the trans, will kick out when i'm in the middle with oncomeing traffic. The air only worked for a little while after i got the car. Now it just blows hot air, and has a funny smell to it. It also every now and then will look like frost or fog is coming out the vents, had to replace an 02 senser, was told there is also one more in the car, and its probley bad have bad gas miliage and smells of gas in the main cab.

I bought this car in 1995.......it has been in the garage for major repairs so many times i can't count them...but i do have documentation....i called the nys lemon law number but was 2 weeks past the statute of limitations...they told me to get a lawyer......since the statute has run out....fox chrysler has had the car for at least 3 weeks in the last year & has given me a rental car (under my extended warranty) ...i feel forced to sell this car because the warranty will run outmay 31, 2001....it has had the transmission rebuilt, the a/c replaced, the rotors were replaced at 13982 miles & the replacements are bad again....they were just turned at 30000 miles...the turn signals, door locks, headlamps (had moisture in them), airbag cover on passenger side was raised & curled from day 1...the tie rods were replaced in 1999 at my cost because fox said that they were not covered under my warranty.....i am looking for an attorney to get this vechile replaced under the ny lemon law....and would like to know if there is any other recource i can take....this is a partial list of the problems with this car that i purchased new .

After owning this car for only 9 monthes , it has been a nightmare.after i bought the car i started to hear all kinds of comments from previous intrepid owners as to how unsafe and what a lemon these cars were. This car was constantly failing.on the road, on the interstate, on my way home late at night.all the problems started just one month after i purchased the car.it was on going, never stoppped. Unfortunantly there had to be an end to the trouble and amount of money that was dumped into this peice of junk car.the only response i have gotten from chrysler was, sorry.i allowed chrysler to repo it only because i had my back against the wall.i only hope to grab somebodys attention so that futher investigation will follow into these cars. Interpids are poorly designed cars and are not safe to be out on the road!

Clunking and rattling noise coming from front suspensionon on small bumps or free play in the stabilizer link ball joint socket(s).the dealer told me that if not fixed the ball joint could go. I know that there was a tsb issued on this problem in !995. Today, 11/05/98, when i called the manufacturer i was told that they can not help because of the mileage. While drivingengine suddenly stalls out, and the oil light comes on.the car could not be restarted.the dealer was notified,and had a co-pilot to take a picture of the engine. Since the problem is unpredictable and doesn't happen all the time, the dealer could not duplicate the problem.

Air bags sensor light intermittently would come on and stay on when vehicle is started. Dealer inspected vehicle and informed consumer that no problem could be found. Also, since transmission had been rebuilt. The control panel failed to operate, and gear shift failed to light up. While driving on highway at appoximately 60-65 mph,transmission appeared to downshift to low and all lights would go out. Dealer/manufacturer notified, and problem stillexits. Can nhtsa help in this matter.

There were 3 problems relating toautomatic transmission; 1) while stopping at an intersection and then proceding to cross,the car wouldn't go forward. The transmission line had come off and all the transmission fluid had sprayed across the driver's side of the car. The transmission line was fixed at a dodge dealership. 2) two weeks later, while driving 65mph on a highway, the car started to shake and the engine was racing out of control. The transmission kept surging in and out of gear and we pulled the car off the shoulder right before the car wouldn't shift at all.again the transmission line had come off and all the transmission fluid had spilled out. We hadanother dodge dealership install a new transmission line. 3) a week later, the transmission would not shift into reverse unless the car was shifted into drive then back to reverse several times. While driving the car, it would shug along in and out of gear until it decided to shift into the correct gear. We ended up getting the transmission rebuilt. Several transmission shops that we went to for estimates said that they see an unusually high number of chrysler products (even 1998 models) that required the transmission to be rebuilt. We spent $1,500 in having the transmission rebuilt and in time and $ lost to fixing the first two transmission problems. We have taken excellent care of this car and believe that the transmission should last the life of the car . This problem should be investigated, as there are design engineering problems in the chrysler transmissions.

When first starting vehicle it hesitates going into reverse. The vehicle chatters when going through gears and speeds up to 15 mph. Dealer was contacted and repaired the valve body, and reprogrammed the transmission control. While driving the vehicle, the automatic transmission malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to slow down which may cause an accident.also while at a stop and applying the gas pedal, the vehicle moves to reverse, almost causing an accident.cause unknown.please provide further details.

Sitting at a stop light and proceeding to accellerate, the gas pedal stuck to the floor for approximately 10 to 15 seconds.had to turn the ignition off to stop the vehicle which was going between 30 and 40 mph.dealer and manufacturer were contacted.

Throttle was stuck. Consumer proceeded to inspect the vehicle and found that the throttle cable broke.after making contact with the manufacturer to obtain a new cable, he was told that cable was no longer available for the yearof this model. Consumer was upset becausethe vehicle would be inoperative without the cable.

Windshield wipers failed to work due to control arm bushing coming off or breaking.

Right rear lateral link failed, causing loss of control.

The spindle assembly broke causing the wheel to kicked back and break the brake hose and resulting in loss of steering and brakes and then the wheel assembly on the left front came off causing a serious accident with severe injuries to the driver and (2) other passengers. The vehicle has been totalled.

While switching lanes lost control of steering momentarily.consumer had to use force to get vehicle under control. Took vehicle to two mechanics,and they said that rack and pinionsteering hadmanufacturing design flaw.2 independent mechanics stated that the bushings on the steering rack were worn and needed to be replaced, also stated that there was too much play or movement in the entire steering mechanism, however replacement of the bushings would not fix the problem since the play or movement in the steering box will continue to causing wear on the bushing, this problem occurs whenever stopping and turning in or out of a driveway, parking lot, etc, or accelerating after a stop, consumer can hear sounds and it feels like something is kicked out or slips from under vehicle's front end, consumer has complained to dealer on 4 occasions.transmission hesitates when making shift from 2nd to 3rd, dealer stated operating as designed.left front splash shield rubbing on tire making a noise, dealer repositioned splash shield.

Rack and pinion issues. Issues with front wheels and steering. I've had it fixed three times, very expensive. I was pulling out of a parking space, when the steer stopped controlling the wheels. I'm grateful i wasn't on the free way.
