While driving 35 mph had a frontal impact, anddriver's andpassenger's airbags did deploy, but did not inflate. Dealer has not inspected the vehicle.no prior problem with airbag system found. Please provide further information.

I was involved in an automobile accident while driving a 1993 dodge intrepid.several vehicles ahead of me stopped quickly and i was unable to come to a complete stop before hitting the vehicle in front of me, a small ford pickup truck.i estimate i was going about 15 to 20 m.p.h. At impact.the impact of the crash caused a minimum of $3500 to $4000 in damage to my intrepid and exceeded its current value.the front end of the intrepid was extensively damaged:the hood was severely crumpled back, the radiator was bent back at an angle and pushed back into the engine, both headlights were destroyed, and both front quarter panels were damaged.in addition, there was a variety of additional mechanical damage to the components of the engine compartment.my complaint is this:neither the driver's side airbag nor the passenger's side airbag deployed!the policemen who responded to the accident were both amazed.fortunately, i was wearing my seat/shoulder belt and was not visibly injured.however, i wonder if i would have sustained visible injury, possible severe, if the accident had been worse and the airbags had still not deployed.have i been driving this vehicle since april 30, 1994 without airbag protection, when all that time i thought i was protected?it's a scary thought!the police accident report is filed under case number 02-21834 of the jackson township police department, 5570 fulton road nwcanton, ohio 44718(330) 497-7440the insurance claimis being handled by:erie insurance group4690 munson street n.w.canton, ohio 44718(330) 433-1925(800) 362-6541this vehicle was purchased (used) on may 2, 1994.it had 24,972 miles on it when i purchased it.the original in-service date was feb. 16, 1993.it was originally titled to: kars daily rental1501 cleveland ave. Vehicle intermittently experiences stalling/sudden acceleration.*aw
First failure, around october 1997, was leak in fuel supply rail on starboard side of engine. This leak covers the two items from your list, as you have no specific item for fuel rail. Leak is worst in cold weather, hardly leaks at all in warm weather or after engine reaches operating temp. Have contacted two dodge dealers; they say that they are aware of a number of similar failures, but manufacturer does not underwrite repair. Manuals do not list fuel rails as a service item and there is no protocol for replacement of the seals, therefore, we feel that the faulty seals are a manufacturing defect. (?)failure number two, the battery cable positive simply rotted out at the termianal end and lost continuity. Manufacturer should have used an insulation the would survive better and longer in the engine room environment.obviously, the conbination of a leaky fuel rail and a defective battery cable is not a happy one. The blower door control motor makes a noise during vehicle turn-on and when selecting use of air conditioning, problem was identified during intiial warranty period w/ advanced service contract and was advised it was not a covered feature. The dash gauges and transmission fails to engage when car is started w/ the air bag light remaining illuminated, the transmission will not shift correctly while this occurrence is active and it is intermittent.

When it quits for more than a second, the ignition switch must be turned off then the car can be restarted. This has happened probably more than 100 times over the last 4 years. I have taken the auto to a dealer and independent repair shop, spent several hundred dollars and have yet to been able to identify the problem. Its very unsettling to be travelling at 65 mph and the engine stops!

Vehicle was in park outside of a store, and the vehicle went in reverse about a 100 yards,and hitting a curb and a guard rail before vehicle came to a stop.also,can pull the key out of the igniton from park/drive and reverse.

The mileage is a guess, it was 65 or 68000 when i bought it.the steering column shakes in my hand when car moves 10 mph or more, doesnt seem to affect turning but does make it difficult to hold steady & feels dangerous; about 2-3 months after purchase, all interior lights, cruise,tbl indicators wont go off unless disconnt batt. Had to remove bulbs to get emer indicators to wk; hdlights vry dim & wipers malfunction when rain is heavy on hdlites; also can see drops of fuel on top of engine while running but no fires so far.can i get them to fix or am i out of all the money or should i get rid of car because tbls may return. Now they are constant everyday all the time
Dealer diagnostic showed faulty circuit board cluster.problem as follows:causing cruise control light to turn on at speeds ranging from 10 - 55 plus miles per hour without driver engaging cruise control.i feel that this is a possible safety hazard, this control engaging itself at speeds under 35 miles per hour.secondary problem:vehicle has begun to stall in traffic.the latest was on 5/11/02 - speed of vehicle 35 miles per hour - vehicle quit and was forced to pull over to side of road to get out of traffic and re-start vehicle.please note that this vehicle had major tune-up done less than 6 months ago.have also replaced starter in dec. 2001, fuel pressure regulator last month.please respond at your earliest convenience.keith w. While the consumer was checking the oil he accidentally stuck the dip stick not in the tube but along side where there is a gap opening and contacted an electrical line which caused a spark, this maybe a design problem which could have resulted in fire.*mjs

Water pump leaking into oil pan, lower front ball joints bad possibly causing unusual tire wear, weather stripping on drivers door won't stay on, serpentine belt cracked. This is just a few of the problems since i bought the car 6 months ago. Many major problems.

Do we have a lemon? we have talked to the manufacturer and dealer. All of these problems seem extensive. At this point, the car is at the dearler with the head gasket problem (after paying $118 when it first overheated the day after picking the car up from overheating when the dealer said that a thermostat was the problem). Do we have any recourse?

I purchased a 1993 dodge intrepid from a used car lot. 2 days later the car started smoking when going down a hill. Then the brake lights began to stick i have to pull up on the pedal to get them to go off and the steering wheelpops when going around a curve.now the car sits at a repair shop needing a transmission because the drive and reverse gears failed leaving me with a bill of 800-2000 to repair it. I believe if the manufacturers would've done their job right in the beginning alot more people would be proud to own a dodge!*nlm

Intermittently fails to start or suddenly dies without any warning at any speed. Instrument panel lights flash erratically/don't come on. Can usually start after 3-8 tries. Often leaves instrument panel lights on and fuel indicator on empty even when tank is full.

Front cross member failed.caused the engine to shift suddenly, which caused the right front axel to snap, which, in turn destroyed the right front suspension - all in approx. 1 second.this all occured while backing up at approx. 1 mph.

The transmission had a shudder between 35-45 mph and the transmission had to be rebuilt.upon further investigation, i found that this is a major problem for chrysler and dodge vehicles.also during this research i found that the air conditioner had many problems which i also had to replace.i ffel that since this has occurredso often that it definately is a design problem and chrysler should be fixing these problems.my charge came to $1700 and i feel that dodge should be picking up the bill.the air conditioner just plain stopped working.through my research, this is definately a frequent problem that they have not addressed.

Vehicle is experiencing difficulty with the headlights. While driving at night the vision is poor due to the oxidation of the front headlamp lenses. Owner contacted the dealer and the manufacturer. However, consumer was told that there was nothing they could do.
Headlights lenses become dark resulting in poor nightime visibility, both with high beams and low beams activated.the condition leads to driver fatigue.the headlights need to be replaced at the cost of approximately $120 per light.

Poor lighting and positioning of headlights impairs vision.
Vehicle is experiencing a problem with the front headlights. Once the headlight lenses begin to oxidize, visibility becomes very difficult when driving at night. There is a yellow tint that develops during the period of oxidation.
Headlamps plastic covering would fog up on the inside, causing the headlights to have less light showing, even with hi beams on. Have been to dealer & mechanic informed owner vehicle was out of warranty & it was up to owner to repair headlights.
Headlights do not clearly define the road ahead.when making right turns at night lights do not illuminate the area being turned into.rarely drive at night due to the poor illumination provided by the headlights.when lower beams are on cannot see far ahead.when upper beams are on cannot clearly see near ahead. Both beams are not on at the same time.

When driving at night the headlights donot provide adequate lighting, causing poor visiblity.problem occurs due to the cover which is pointing down. Consumer has contacted the dealer.
Owner states that there was smoke coming from steering wheel while driving, when she took vehicle to shop and was told that the headlight dimmer switch was bad.
Consumer stated that the plastic switch protecting the head light switch, had fallen off, and sometimes it's impossible to turn on the switch.also, this part could fall off at any bumps on the street.manufacturer had been contacted.the switch to turn on the headlights is broken, dealer states that the parts are not available.

The contact owns a 1993 dodge intrepid. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact noticed a strong gasoline fuel smell in the vehicle. After stopping, the contact opened the hood and noticed fuel leaking from the the o-rings on the driver side. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician advised that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 98v184000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system) but only the passenger side o-rings were covered by the recall, not the driver side o-rings. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
When engine is turned on fuel pours out of the left gasket of the fuel pump.
The fuel rail, located on the top front of the engine, cracked, causing the gasto leak on top of the engine and the spark plugs.the dealer has not been notified.

My car has had numerous recalls and i bought itused a few months ago my car is a 1993 dodge intrepid what can i do about this?car will run for 20 minutes or until shut off and then die for 20 minutes to 10 hours, no warning lights come on diagnostics say car is fine even when it will not start. The quick connect/disconnect that connects the fuel lines to the fuel rail is not holding and is allowing raw gas to leak into the engine compartment, gas fumes can be smelled inside the car, dealer says the only fix is to replace fuel line between fuel filter and fuel rail, i susspect that the quick connect idea is not a good choice for fuel system components since the connector is plastic and gasoline would tend to deteriorate the plastic over time and replacing these fuel lines is a costly $$$ proposition, i will replace the faulty fuel line sections with standard high pressure neoprene/rubber fuel line which should work quite well.

First failure, around october 1997, was leak in fuel supply rail on starboard side of engine. This leak covers the two items from your list, as you have no specific item for fuel rail. Leak is worst in cold weather, hardly leaks at all in warm weather or after engine reaches operating temp. Have contacted two dodge dealers; they say that they are aware of a number of similar failures, but manufacturer does not underwrite repair. Manuals do not list fuel rails as a service item and there is no protocol for replacement of the seals, therefore, we feel that the faulty seals are a manufacturing defect. (?)failure number two, the battery cable positive simply rotted out at the termianal end and lost continuity. Manufacturer should have used an insulation the would survive better and longer in the engine room environment.obviously, the conbination of a leaky fuel rail and a defective battery cable is not a happy one. Fuel rail was replaced as a precaution when the recall was issued for this problem. Dealer changed the fuel rail and o-rings and tested for leaks in injector o-rings and found no problems. Since the correction there has been a noticeable gas smell entering the cabin area when fan is on and engine is running. Gas smell is apparent surrounding the injector area when parked. And the "rotary clunking noise" could be heard in all forward and reverse gears (i.e., all gears except park & neutral).the vehicle was towed to an aamco shop.the tow truck driver noticed that the passenger-side front suspension was "torn from the frame" ... And i noted that the passenger-side front wheel/tire was no longer centered in the wheel well (moved substantially forward).aamco determined that due to the suspension bracket failure, the axle had broke (at the u-joint) and was allowed to spin freely ... Hence the loud "rotary clunking" noise.aamco replaced both axles.the vehicle was then towed to autowest dodge (43155 auto mall circle; fremont, ca; 94538; 510 252-5000) to replace the engine cradle sub-frame, bushings, etc. ... And re-attach the suspension components.this lower control arm bracket failure is suspiciously similar to nhtsa campaign id number 99v215000 ... But according to autowest dodge and daimlerchrysler (1-800-992-1997), my vehicle's vin is not included in this recall.is it possible for the nhtsa to investigate the failure of this component on my vehicle?perhaps the scope of the "99v215000 recall" should be expanded to include other lh body production runs.note that old axles were retained by aamco for core exchange ... And i have asked to retain possession of the failed engine cradle.i'm sure a qualified metallurgist would be able to determine the actual cause of the failure/fatigue (poor engineering, poor workmanship, poor weld penetration, etc.).fortunately, my vehicle's bracket failure occurred at a very low speed and no harm was done to the driver (my wife) or the passenger (my 15-month-old daughter).i'm only out the $2500.00 (approx.) repair bill ... Automatic transmission was reapired once and overhauled a second time while still under warranty. Transmission was shifting gears in an abrupt and hard manner. Transmission would also slip out of gear after coming to a stop and wind on acceleration prior to going into gear. Dealer found major problem with gaskets in transmission. Ever since i first brought the car, when i stepped on the accelerator, the transmission made a whiny sound.during the years of 1993 and 1994, the vehicle was brought to the repair shops at either manassas dodge and later to jerry's dodge (located in springfield, va) all under the 12,000 mile warranty, regarding this noise from the transmission.both repair shops said there was no problem with the transmission or engine.just a few days ago the noise from the transmission changed.i noticed the change in the noise when i accelerate from zero miles per hour until the speed is set.with the change in the noise,i noticed a slight dip in the response time of the car when i step on the accelerator.

We also experienced a transmission failure which was rebuilt at 80,000 miles in 09/15/1995, the paint is peeling, the black window panels are pealing and when the fan is started a knocking sound comes from the right front blower. The mileage is a guess, it was 65 or 68000 when i bought it.the steering column shakes in my hand when car moves 10 mph or more, doesnt seem to affect turning but does make it difficult to hold steady & feels dangerous; about 2-3 months after purchase, all interior lights, cruise,tbl indicators wont go off unless disconnt batt. The dash gauges and transmission fails to engage when car is started w/ the air bag light remaining illuminated, the transmission will not shift correctly while this occurrence is active and it is intermittent.
A gust of wind blew and trunkshut down. Consumer'shand was caught in the trunk. However, no injurieswere sustained.the torsion springs that hold the trunk open have lost their tension and will no longer hold the lid open.the trunk lid must be propped open for safety.

I contacted chrysler, they said as a "good will" gesture they would pay for the axle, but that i should expect the frame to crack on car that old. The car has never been in any accidents and i feel that i was lucky that i diddn't loose control of the car and kill myself, my family or someone from on coming traffic since it was the left front wheel which came off.

Dt:the contact stated there was a radical change in the steering.the steering went from ordinary to more complex. While holding the steering wheel the vehicle would wonder.he would have to over compensate to get back on course.the contact took the vehicle to a local service station ,and the mechanic stated the rear end almost separated from the vehicle.the rear end was rusted. The mechanic had to get a rear end assembly from a junk vehicle and replaced the entire rear end.he spoke with chrysler , they said there was nothing to be done, and referred him to theinsurance company.

Nothing led up to the failure, it happened while i was driving on the freeway. I noticed my car started swaying and "floating" i got off the freeway and looked under the left rear to see that the sway bar snapped at the joint, and the sway bar link had disconnected.the rubber bushing is still in the arm, but not the bolt. Can't find a new sway bar, but i have a repair kit for the link. This incident doesn't allow me to drive over 20 mph with wheel shaking. Cannot reverse as well.

Tire is about 1 year old, on the way to work this morning the tire blew out for no apparent reason.i had not hit a bump nor was i aware of running over any sharp objects.i pulled off the road and the tire has 5 different holes in it-all along the side wall, three holes in the front and two holes in the back.the tire still has plenty of thread on it and had no plugs.with regard to the rear window, the trim is pushed back and the corner end of the window is exposed.as if you are trying to open the window-you can see the top edge of the window.i am not sure of how to resolve-i am afraid to simply put sealant in crack-afraid window may fall into car or out of frame into people behind.window was never hit, appears that seal is worn or window is falling.( dot number: tire size: 9225/60r16 )

Tire is about 1 year old, on the way to work this morning the tire blew out for no apparent reason.i had not hit a bump nor was i aware of running over any sharp objects.i pulled off the road and the tire has 5 different holes in it-all along the side wall, three holes in the front and two holes in the back.the tire still has plenty of thread on it and had no plugs.with regard to the rear window, the trim is pushed back and the corner end of the window is exposed.as if you are trying to open the window-you can see the top edge of the window.i am not sure of how to resolve-i am afraid to simply put sealant in crack-afraid window may fall into car or out of frame into people behind.window was never hit, appears that seal is worn or window is falling.( dot number: tire size: 9225/60r16 )

The oil light came on, the engine cut off while in motion.dealer said that the timing belt had melted and the water pump seized and idler action pulley damaged.

Consumer was backing out of garage slowly when suddenly vehicle accelerated in reverse gear at high rate of speed with foot still on brakes which almost caused consumer to run into a house.consumer had to put gear into park, and take out key in order to stop vehicle.a repair shop claimed that front suspension was faulty and could not drive vehicle to inspect it.

When driving at 40 mph the cruise control would come on, anda few minutes later the vehicle stalls out. Cruise control has to be shut off in orderto get vehicle started again. Solution cannot be found.

Son driving car in his lane, car backed out of driveway & hit driver's side, he jerked forward & hit head, seat belts did not hold & air bag did not deploy.

The driver's front side electric power window had broken.problem informed by mechanic. The lift plate was broken, it needed replacing. This has happened 4 different times. The part is not made anymore. Would need to buy entire window.
