My 2003 dodge grand caravan has the same clockspring problem that my 99 caravan did, thought this problem was redesigned.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated and the horn and vehicle speed control stopped working.the dealer stated that the clockspring was the cause of the failure.the repair would cost $300.the failure mileage was 92,000.

My air bag light came on and horn stopped working was told by dealer it was the clock springs but its not included in the recall.

2003 dodge grand caravan, 90k mis.airbag light on, intermittent cruise control operation.probable clock spring failure.*ln

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 30-40 mph, the vehicle struck a cow.upon impact, the airbags did not deploy.there was prior braking and the impact was on the grill.there was a police report taken at the scene, but there were no injuries.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop.

Air bag light comes on intermittently.does not come on all the time but when it does, it stays on for a couple of minutes.has been happening for a couple of years.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota corolla. While driving at approximately 40 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed. The vehicle damages were repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v043000 (air bags). The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

Airbag warning light illuminates on startup, remains on, then turns off.will come back on after a few minutes, then cycle on-off during normal driving.light remains on more than off during driving.this looks like clockspring recall that effected 98-99 caravans, but no recall issued for this safety issue??

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact tested and replaced the battery, but the vehicle failed to successfully restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair facility. The mechanic stated that the pc module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the horn would continuously activate. The mechanic disabled the horn and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Airbag light has come on and remains on. Contacted manufacturer. They did not offer any assistance. I am sure this is a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated that immediately after parking the vehicle in a residential garage, the air bags inadvertently deployed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 210,000.

Driving to meet my husband.i was on a highway i got up to 60 mph.my van started losing the instrument panel.at first only a little bump (ding) then as i continue driving i lost the whole instrument panel intermittently and the wind shield wipers came on and sprayed wiper fluid and all lights would not work.when i got the panel back it would leave the air bag light on.it had no effect on the rest of the engine.i had something similar happen before and it was a dead battery.i went and had both battery and alternator tested they are fine.it has not happened again but it had happened at least every 2 weeks for 6 months with no answers.this is the first time it completely lost the instrument panel but not the first time it would lose 5 mph or so on the instrument panel and nothing to the engine.i am going crazy thinking my car is possessed!went to a non dealership repair shop and was told that since it was not doing it right now they can't tell anything.

The airbag light remains on continuous, the horn is not working, the cruise control isn't working, and drivers side power window makes a squealing noise.i called an automobile repair service and was told that it was the clock spring on the steering wheel.i called a dodge dealer and was told that there was no recall on the part.

I purchased my dodge grand caravan sport 2003 brand new off the lot in nov. 2002. I kept it in mint condition with all maintenance logs filled out. At the time of incident there were only 95,000 miles on the van. It had never been in a wreck before. On jan 18 2015 while driving in the mountains i hit black ice and lost control of the vehicle. It flipped front to back, did a 180 mid air, landed on wheels then rolled at least once to the left, landing on the wheels again. The airbags never deployed. My passenger and i both had our seatbelts on however i still lifted up and hit my head on the roof and the windshield. We are still assessing our injuries. I am extremely concerned as to how i lifted out of my seat, basically the seatbelt did not tighten to me. Also why didn't the airbags deploy? has there been a recall concerning the airbags or seat belts or other that i was never informed of?

While driving srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.the driver will contact the dealer in the morning for this problem.noise started coming from the steering column. *sc

Clock spring assembly failure - airbag warning light continuously on.*nlm

Problem began with airbag light illuminating intermittently when turning left and steering column noise occurred at the same time. Currently airbag light stays illuminated, with periodic steering column noise. This appears to be the same symptoms that resulted in a clockspring recall on minivans aged 1998-2000.called dealer and was quoted $250-300 to repair. Seems this is a safety issue still and should be covered at no charge.have also submitted complaint to daimler/chrysler as well.

While sitting in traffic both airbags deployed driver and passenger sustained neck and back injuries and were transported by ambulance to the hospital.vehicle was towed to the dealer for analysis.a representative was sent out to look at the vehicle.consumerhas not heard anything as of yet.

2003 dodge grand caravan engine died while driving for no apparent reason causing a major accident and injury to my wife. Power steering and brakes became inoperable and airbag did not deploy.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. While driving, the steering wheel became difficult to turn to the right. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the clockspring pin was fractured and caused the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 367,000.

Airbag warning light on dashboard turns on and off intermittently.it is not clear whether the problem is with the airbag, a sensor, or the warning light itself.vehicle was bought new in 11/2002 and has not been in an accident or had the airbag replaced or worked on.

After the vehicle was started, airbag indicator stayed on for couple of minutes and goes off. After few minutes it comes back on. The cycle keeps repeating as long as the vehicle is in operation. Because the air bag is required for safety, i took the vehicle to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as open clock spring and replaced the clockspring. Based on recall history of dodge grand caravans related to airbag indicator, i felt that the probem still exists with airbag indicator in 2003 dodge grandcaravan sport vehicle.

There are two problems that are very serious.first, in 2017 as i was exiting the interstate, i drove through a puddle.as i attempted to turn left onto the road, my steering wheel locked and it was only with extreme force and slamming on the brakes that i kept from running through the guardrail, and dropping down to the interstate below.i was unable to make the turn and stopped on the overpass until my steering wheel unlocked.yes, my engineer husband keeps up with all of our regular maintenance, including the belts.next, with an unusually heavy rain this past week, my battery light came on.after parking for an hour, my steering wheel would not turn when i attempted go again.i restarted the car five times before the steering unlocked.all week, during that heavy rain, the steering locked regularly.these problems are all over the web.women and children everywhere are in danger of dying from something that should have been recalled years ago.why is there no recall for this problem?if you are refusing to do anything about this, then you are eligible for being sued along with chrysler, for allowing this to continue uncorrected.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated that the vehicles exterior lighting system failed which alsodecreased the visibility. While driving 65 mph at night, the windshield wipers came on, when the contact tried to turn on the low beams. The weather was not a factor. The contact stated that when the right turn signal was activated the left turn signal came on instead. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact replaced the electrical unit himself, and found that there was oil in the electrical unit. The contact retained the electrical unit for examination. The contact also stated that the vehicle functioned properly after the electrical unit was replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000. The current mileage was approximately 119,000.

Takata recall,my can has had some serious safety electrical issues for quite some time now.i've had many dangerous situations. With this can one thing after the next. I'm not sure exactly the problem but something the power control modual or wiring harness is not ok. The radiator fans didn't work as well as the power controls windows, heat,ac,radio, and the wipers ect.there is sparking coming from the car. Wires had started to catch fire. As well as the car overheating.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled four times while driving at various speeds.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who was unable to duplicate the problem.finally the dealership determined the black box needed to be replaced. While driving the vehicle 25 mph, there was a very loud noise.the vehicle would not go into gear.the vehicle began to roll when placed in park.the emergency brake was engaged to stop the vehicle which was later towed to a dealership for inspection.

Oct 17 2007 my van started acting like this. The van will not start but everything worked that needing the battery. When drove for 2sec the van just lost all power and would not start. I checked the battery, fuses, and relays. I had it towed to a shop and they can not fined out. They was thinking the computer and keys need to redone.

I have had so many major problems with my 2003 dodge grand caravan! i bought it used in 2008 w/ 68k miles. At that time the transmission had already been replaced. I had to replace the entire power steering system ($2000), auto window regulator, ac blower, tires, alternator belt, water pump, etc.the engine light has been on for some time now and mechanic says misfiring spark plugs. When serviced for problem(@ 170k miles) discovered original factory sp still in. Horrible corrosion/build up, had 2 fuel system flushes. Light on again. Newest & most dangerous problems,on multiple occasions now, van has completely turned off while driving, idling, and parked. It happens randomly and unexpectedly. More frequently while at lower speeds or parked but once while i was actually driving. When it cuts off the oil light remains illuminated. The car turns right back on. 5 times while driving 25-50mph has gone into cruise control by itself, and i loose control until it decides to give it back! today, for the first time, after parking and turning car off myself, it would not restart. Ignition not responding, no noise, nothing. Tried to jump it and nothing, notices that lights and other electrical components not effected. Fortunately an observer also happened to be a mechanic, he took out the starter fuse and stuck some wires in the socket and had me turn the key, it started!!! he said that it seems there is an ignition communication problem, a.k.a. Computer problem. I have 4 kids that are always with me and this is our only vehicle. If the vehicle is dependent on the computer to function, then i have zero room for communication problems. I have reviewed all of the complaints for this make/model/year, there are multiple complaints that are similar if not identical to mine. I wonder how many complaints have to be filed before action is taken? does someone have to die first?

2003 dodge grand caravan sport, the head lights and dash will dim for a quick second. This happens when its cold out side and when the transmission is down shifting when braking. I have had the batter and alternator test and received passing results. Once the engine and tranny is warmed up there is not problem. Have done a internet search that revealed several issues with this on the 02 models but did not find anything on getting it repaired.

The headlights flicker off on my 2003 dodge grand caravan with 68,000 miles. This originally happened on vacation with my family of 5 in the car on a highway in tennessee.when the lights went off i reached forward to touch the switch and they came back on.3 weeks went by without another incident.now almost daily the lights flicker off and come back on when i touch the switch.this has not been repaired yet.

Electrical problems everywhere.door locks and sliding door problems, automatic rear door quite opening, tire system recalibrated over and over again, but the biggest safety problem is the blinkers quite working or even worse, if you put the right blinker on, the left signal starts blinking.

We were driving down the freeway going 75mph and everything died. No power steering, no power brakes!luckily we were in the far right lane and were able to barley able to make it of the side of the road without being hit or hitting anyone.in 110 degree weather, we sat with our 4 small children waiting for a tow truck. And then for someone to pick us up. We don't' even know how the tow truck was able to get the vehicle without getting hit, it was that close to the side of the road.nothing started and after 3 shops, finally found it was the computer, took the part out and its messed up and we were told not only by all 3 shops, but by all the parts places that its common in this make and model.that is unacceptable! my kids not only are afraid to get in the car, but i have had to start taking something for anxiety, i am so afraid to drive any car now, afraid of that happening again.it was terrifying going that speed and losing all power and control over the vehicle.it should not have happened.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.

My air bag light came on and horn stopped working was told by dealer it was the clock springs but its not included in the recall.

Night driving, head lights and dash lights just go out, come back on after several seconds.

While driving, the left headlamp stopped working.it started working again a few minutes later, and has continued to turn on and off for no apparent reason.high beams work ok.the same problem occurred with two different bulbs.when the ignition is off, i can turn on the headlights, but the left light has a slight delay turning on.when i turn the ignition on, the left headlight goes out.i cannot find any relays or fuses for the headlights.two mechanics have looked at the problem, and have not been able to fix it.this seems to be a common problem on the web, but i can't find any solutions.

2003 dodge grand caravan engine died while driving for no apparent reason causing a major accident and injury to my wife. Power steering and brakes became inoperable and airbag did not deploy.

After starting the vehicle all the gauges work.after about fifteen minutes all the gauges stopped working.as of 10/22/04, the problem had gotten worse.as soon as the vehicle was turned on all of the electrical parts in the vehicle stopped working.there would be no blinker. All gauges in the dash did not come on, the electrical passenger side door and the hatch stopped working. *sc

Electrical component in the glove compartment that controls the heater smells of burning and when heat is turned on smoke blows out the heat vents, also causing the heat to go out. When the wires were checked they were all melted from burning.

Own a 2003 dodge grand caravan sport . Car was towed to dodge dealer on friday july 20,2006, due to rough engine idling. Was told that it was a pcm , would take until the following wednesday to have to part shipped in ( i live in the chicago area ). Vehicle was being driven on road totally cut out, would not re start, after some 20 minutes restarted, decided to drive on thruway back to mechanic, would run for a short time then cut out again.given to chrysler dodge dealer, unable to locate problem, could not fix.. Replaced ecm module replace oem module no better.own mechanic replaced a wire, at least it run but now cuts out in car wash, puddles, slush.chrysler still have no idea, except that they have several instances of the same problem.also ignition key works only when tapped with a hammer and turn, apparently this is also a common fault.

All of my vehicle lights continuously flicker.a very noticeable change in the intensity of the headlights, marker lights, tail lights, interior lights and instrument lights occurs whenever the engine is running.

Consumer loss all lighting and horn when the battery died.*ph dealer pulled the fuse out, but battery died every two days and vehicle has no horn for 6 weeks.consumer also lost all lights at night while driving at 40 mph.lights bells was fixed by dealer but still no remedy with the battery.*la

When driving with the headlights on lights dimmed, and the heatfrom the air vents temperature decreased. This occurredwhen coming to a complete stop, or if consumer removedfootfrom the accelerator pedal.dealership replaced the module/alternator, transmission control module, and the main computer, but the problem still occurred.

While driving at any speed consumer heard a loud noise coming from the engine compartment, vehicle was taken to the dealership, and techniciandetermined thatsound was coming from the alternator which was normal.

Upon refueling the vehicle, vehicle stalls for a few seconds upon first acceleration. This has happened several times (about 1 out of every 4 refuels). Several times, the vehicle has stalled while pulling into traffic. Upon doing research, we have learned of many complaints already voiced about a faulty valve. For reference:http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/10/dodge-grand-caravan-chrysler-town-and-country-stalling-nhtsa/http://en.allexperts.com/q/chrysler-repair-807/f/stalling-refueling.htmhttp://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/engine-stalls-after-filling-tank-chrysler-minivan/.

I was driving down the road slees limit was 45 i was doing 50 md a deer came out in front of me and i hit it head on thw whole front ends of my car is at my windshield. It was a very hard impact that brought me to a complete stop m y air bags dis not deploy as they should have with a impact like that

This problem has been happening for around 2 years now and it occurs when the van is near empty and i fill it with gas.when i start to drive away and pull onto the street, the engine chugs and jerks and acts like it will completely stop.there is no power to accelerate, and it is a terrifying and dangerous situation which will likely result in accident.if i let off the gas and go slow, it eventually stops chugging and jerking.this does not happen every time, but when it does, it is a frightening and extremely dangerous situation.unless a solution is found, i expect that it will result in an accident.

Tubes carrying coolant to the rear heater rusted through, causing coolant to leak out of the system. Repair was not covered by extended warranty. Have spoken with other caravan owners that have had the same failure.some were covered under warranty.have read on numerous forums 1) about this same failure on multiple model years (1999 - 2005)2) how the bracket material is different than the tube, thereby causing galvanic corrosion3) how chrysler has since changed the material of the tubes to reduce the possibility of galvanic corrosion.the repair (tube replacement) is relatively expensive, but potentially more so if there is complete drainage of coolant, causing engine/transmission failure.

I have had numerous problems with this vehicle, and after several attempts to fix the steering, and then having the timing chain replaced, the wheel bearing replaced and numerous other complaints, i don't feel the dealer or the manufacturer are listening to my concerns.i have contacted the better business bureau and a lemon law attorney, and have been told that chrysler has it's own mediation and arbitration.i don't think that this is fair, since in the last 7 months, my vehicle has been out of service 15 days.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving 25 mph. The vehicle would not restart until the contact added a small amount of fuel. Wife went to start car in morning. Loud explosion followed by smoke from engine compartment. She left vehicle. She smelled burnt plastic smell. I checked later and saw exploded intake manifold and hose on top of engine. Obvious explosion in engine intake area with enough force to blow manifold into pieces. Car is at dealer. They are waiting for new intake manifold to repair vehicle. Unconcerned about potential harm to driver/passengers of vehicle.this has potential for fire in engine compartment and vehicle and could be very dangerous situation.

All of my vehicle lights continuously flicker.a very noticeable change in the intensity of the headlights, marker lights, tail lights, interior lights and instrument lights occurs whenever the engine is running.

My headlights flicker while driving - happens quite often ever since i purchased my 2003 dodge grand caravan.dealership can not find problem.replaced alternator but problem still exists.purchased in january, 2004.purchase & incident dates are approximate.

Car started.headlights switched on, but headlights did not illuminate, others lights did.switch was not the problem.turned car off, turned on headlights, which now worked, and started car.it was purchased new andheadlight switch was replaced about two years ago due to headlights going out while driving at night.

While driving at night the headlights flickered on and off and sometime failed completely without warning. The dealer has inspected the vehicle over six times, however states they cannot fix the issue. Please provide additional information.

Since purchasing the van used headlights flicker when driving, usually including the interior lights.they have never actually failed, but this does not inspire confidence when driving at night.i understand a nhtsa recall is possible for 2001-2002 models, but i hope this will be extended at least to 2003 models as well, since the symptoms are eerily similar.

Dt*:the contact stated that the headlights on the vehicle only worked intermittently.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.

2003 dodge grand caravan headlights flicker while i am driving.

Headlights and interior lights flicker2 1/2 year old vehicle currently has 49,00 miles headlights have always seemed to flicker.occasionally interior lights do the same.dealer suggests replacing several modules at significant cost. I see from nhtsa web site that a recall is/was to be issued for 2000-2002.based on number of complaints in systems seems it should be extended to 2003.

More and more often headlights flicker or go off completely while driving. It is very unnerving and unsafe since sometimes i don't realize they are off even though the switch is in the on position. Sometime they come back on, other times i have to turn the switch off and on quickly. Nobody can trace the problem so far.

Bought van used about a yr ago -is a 2003 dodge grand caravan- issues since purchase not satifyingly dealt with are ( between end dec 05 to mid nov 06- noticed brakes noises since bought it - several calls and a check they said there was dust making the noise - less than 9 mo later needed to replace the pads and rotars - they made excuses they wear out - had they informed me they were wearing out when they found dustid have had them in long before needing rotars fixed - since new brakes and rotars in october hear same noise and they dismiss it. Also - have trouble with lights and heat and electrical components dimming and seeming to die out when decelerating a lot since i bought it - had it in ad called several times - they say they cant see anything wrong adn that dodge was made to do that ? . Not happy with my purchase and feel i am out near 20,000 - also abs light came on shortly after brakes repaired this month- covered item but less than deductible so stuck with near 85 dollar bill - they said again this just happens - seems that is standard answer to trouble it just happens - i dont feel the brakes just happened and i am sure the light trouble could be a hazard if it stalled completely on a busy road. Dodge should look closer at thier vehicles. Am also gonna check out vehicle for the other trouble stated here in regards to seatbelts and cracks - have children and that is major safety issue - if it happens and anyone is hurt you can bet ill be running to a lawyer - same with the down idle with brrakeing and abs going out - just praying for no injuries -note that printout i recieved today has old owners stuff on it and noticed that the noise from tires and front is not a new problem thay had it in several times also for it. Oh - and guess what they charge for a 2 inch trailer hitch ball - 89.00!!! had i known that id have gone to walmart and paid wayyyy less. All for the cashola an not the good of th customer i suppose huh?

Wife went to start car in morning. Loud explosion followed by smoke from engine compartment. She left vehicle. She smelled burnt plastic smell. I checked later and saw exploded intake manifold and hose on top of engine. Obvious explosion in engine intake area with enough force to blow manifold into pieces. Car is at dealer. They are waiting for new intake manifold to repair vehicle. Unconcerned about potential harm to driver/passengers of vehicle.this has potential for fire in engine compartment and vehicle and could be very dangerous situation.

Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer because shecontinually had front end problems. Dealer stated that therewas too much air in the tires. Consumer smelled fuel odor. There were two recalls regarding fuel.consumer took the vehicle to dealerthree times before they could tell her what was wrong. Theyfound that brakes, and rotors were completely worn out.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. The contactstated when adding gasoline to the fuel tank, the vehicle would stall while traveling at various speeds. Whenever the contact added less than a fill up, the failure would not occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately 10-12 times to correct the failure. The dealer replaced the fuel canister, fuel pump and the gas tank in an attempt to correct the failure to no avail. The failure persisted and the warranty was no longer valid. The failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.updated 7/16/10

My wife was driving our 2003 dodge grand caravan to work when it seemed to not be getting any fuel at all. The van then stalled in traffic and would not start. It was towed to the local dodge dealer to find out that the fuel pump had failed. Replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. Van has less than 50,000 miles on it.

2003 dodge grand caravan se suddenly stopped due to a mechanical problem regarding the fuel pump and fuel sensor.(nar)*ph

While filling up the fuel tank valve joint separated from gas tank, causing gasoline to pour out.consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis, andmechanic recommended that the fuel be replaced due to a crack.

When driving over some debris in the road, thefuel tank ruptured.*sc

I just purchased 2003 dodge grand caravan i was in the expressway and just suddenly the vehicle started shaking and the engine wanted to die out.i was in the middle lane of the expressway there were some traffic.then finally i got it up to the emergency lane.the fuel gauge was showing more than half tank of gas.took it in to the dodge dealer it turned out to be a faulty fuel sending unit that needs to be replaced.the dealer replaced and solved the problem.

Upon refueling the vehicle, vehicle stalls for a few seconds upon first acceleration. This has happened several times (about 1 out of every 4 refuels). Several times, the vehicle has stalled while pulling into traffic. Upon doing research, we have learned of many complaints already voiced about a faulty valve. For reference:http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/10/dodge-grand-caravan-chrysler-town-and-country-stalling-nhtsa/http://en.allexperts.com/q/chrysler-repair-807/f/stalling-refueling.htmhttp://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/engine-stalls-after-filling-tank-chrysler-minivan/.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The contact shifted into neutral and maneuvered into the emergency lane, where the engine stalled without warning. The contact noticed flames emitting from the rear of the vehicle. The contact and passengers exited the vehicle. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was not filed. The contact sustained burns and abrasions that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact mentioned that the failure was believed to be related to nhtsa campaign number: 02v274000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

No light in the left side of the instrumental panel make sitdifficult to see atnight time. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and coudl not duplicate or correct the problem.

Automatic door locks stopped working. The interior lights worked intermittently when door opened. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for repairs, but the problem recurred.

All of my vehicle lights continuously flicker.a very noticeable change in the intensity of the headlights, marker lights, tail lights, interior lights and instrument lights occurs whenever the engine is running.

I purchased the vehicle in september of 2004. The power door lock failure occurred for the 1st time 3 weeks ago. Through trithe internet, i discovered that the removal and replacement of the 20amp fuse in the iod slot corrected the problem, but only one time.i discussed this at the dealer's service department and they are not aware of any such problem with the 2003 grand caravan. I certainly find that difficult to believe. I will be approaching the dealership again concerning the door locks very soon. Maybe they will resolve this problem without charge since it is an inherent trouble with their automobile.

The sensor has stopped working in my 2003 dodge grand caravan driver's side back door.this sensor allows for the door to stop if anything gets in the way of the door.one day i was carrying in my 1 year old son and all his things.i went to shut the door, thinking that everything was removed out of the way.i hadn't pulled his walk-behind toy completely out of the way.the door broke the toy.the next day my older son was getting something out of the car.he had accidentally hit the button to close the door.it didn't stop again.i pulled him out of the way before it crushed his hand.the door missed him by a couple inches.i have talked to my warranty company and also customer service through dodge and they are both saying they can't fix this issue.i don't want it to get to the point where one of my children is injured by a faulty point.this is a huge safety issue.the van was purchased used in 2008.

Ona 2003, grand, caravan just above both sliding doors on the drip railsheet metal was raised ,and the chalking was cracked which permitted water to enter the interior sheet metal. This caused corrosion. Dodge corporation stated they would only chalk it again, and would give no further warranty for corrosion other then what was offered.these were obvious stress points. Also, right side door didnot automatically close all the time. It cycled 3/4 of the way and opened again. Driver's door if closed after using the automatic lock button would unlock when closed.

Automatic door locks stopped working. The interior lights worked intermittently when door opened. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for repairs, but the problem recurred.

Every dodge vehicle on my street, including my brand new dodge grand caravan that i have owned for less than 3 weeks, was broken into and burglarized.apparently this vehicle is very easy to break into and now the vehicle is totally unsecured until it is repaired. *nlm

When using the keyless entry to open the rear tailgate, the gate locks sometimes while it is opened.when you then close it using the keypad, the door lowers and the instrument panel warning light says door is closed, but it is not really locked and can open whole driving.also happens when using overhead console switch.dodge was not concerned when i brought it for warranty and just put on repair order that they could not duplicate it although i showed them the same failure after opening and closing 3 times. *la

Rear hatch door not opening/closing/locking correctly. This is a daily problem.

Erratically, the rear tailgate does not lock properly and opens while driving. No ajar warning light shown on the dash either before or after the incidents. The mechanism sounds like it has closed but it is not because the lock in the tailgate has already closed before it has reached the latch, therefore preventing proper closure. I have duplicated this issue on several occasions with both keyless entry remote and roof console control. Dealer repeatedly reports that they cannot duplicate issue, denies repair/replacement even though the tailgate has been previously replaced because of damage incurred by the tailgate popping open while driving.

On several occasions that the lift gate does not properly lock and opens while driving.if the rear lift is unlocked and opened using the kelsey entry, it may close the lock while its being opened and when you close using the keypad, it will appear to close and you hear the mechanism closing the door but it does not close because the lock is already closed.the warning light on the instrument panel extinguishes because it believes the door is closed.on one occasion i found myself driving down the highway with and opened back.also the interior passenger dome light turns on by itself.i have been able to duplicate this problem numerous times.*la

While driving, the tailgate loosened and flew open. Driver drovevehicle to the dealership for analysis and the mechanic told him that the timing inside of the lock mechanism was off and caused the door to lock prematurely.*ph

Transmission

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle erroneously accelerated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the transmission control module had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Updated 4/22/14 updated 04/28/2014

The main problem was the vehicle not going into gear or moving, plus we notice that on any incline the vehicle will roll backwards if you have to stop at a light.the first problem has been fixed, according to the mechanic there was a leak and the solenoid was replaced.however, we are still experiencing problems with the incline, which they say is normal and the transmission is operating as designed.i totally disagree, i've been driving for a while and only manual transmission react this way on an incline.thus far the vehicle is still under warranty and there has been no cost.my wife refuses to drive the vehicle after these problems.

Summary - rough shift or slip at 1500-2000 rpm began around 30,000 miles.dodge visits-10/26/05 - 32,088 miles - clutch replaced.11/30/05 - 33,179 miles - "special order part".12/14/05 - 33,803 miles - valve body. 12/20/05 - 33,920 miles - tans-axle replacement.03/31/06 - 36,709 miles - quick learn reset.05/04/06 - 38,214 miles - dodge would not evaluate unless i paid the extended warranty deductible of $100. Refused to provide me paperwork for this attempt at repair.i feel problem existed and was not fixed so should not have to pay $100 for further attempts.

Dt*:the contact stated when the vehicle was initially placed in drive, there was a clunking sound coming from the engine in the area of the transmission.the same clunking noise was heard every time the vehicle automatically downshifted at any speed.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined there was internal problem with the transmission; however no further diagnostic testing or repairs were completed.

Tl *- the contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan sport.the contact's vehicle vibrated, but did not stall when making a left or right turns.this incident occurred since june 2006.the mechanic replaced the power steering pump and serviced the transmission.while servicing the transmission the mechanic observed that the oil pan and dip stick had grey debris in it, and the magnet was not in the right location. The contact stated that the power steering returns cooler should be replaced. The contact also observed a burning smell under the hood ,andwas concerned about an under hood fire. The dealer did not confirm if there could be a failure if she didn'treplace the power steering return cooler.however, he advised her that the new part will eliminate the vibration in the steering wheel. Each visit to the dealer/repair shop the contact experienced a new failure including the original concern.the dealer stated the contact should also replace the power steering return cooler. .the contact also replaced the right front tires on two occasions since 2004 due to uneven wear.they mechanicstated that a carriage bolt will correct the tire failure.

At slow accelerations vehicle shudders/hesitates to shift.when downshifting it "bumps" down.at 35-40 mph engine races without accelerating.dealer says clutch plates need 5-10,000 miles to break in after transmission was rebuilt at 2,400 miles.vehicle still not shifting correctly after many service attempts and 11,000 miles.

The consumer stated that the vehicle down shifted very roughly when decelerating. The vehicle also made a loud grinding noise when started after being parked for an extended period of time. The dealer attempted to repair the transmission problems 3 times. A new transmission package was ordered an installed.*nlm

Dt:while the vehicle was in drive and the consumer hadfoot on the brake pedal the vehiclewent forward.the consumerstopped at a stop light on september 14, 2005 and itvehicle rear ended another vehicle.the consumer has been having problems with the transmission slipping.the vehicle is currently at a dealership.no police report was taken. There was only damage to the consumer's vehicle.

Thevehicle began bucking, the automatic transmission would not move to 2nd or 3rd gear, the speedometer was moving up to 60-80 miles per hour, when the speed was only about 30 mph. The engine was revving very high and the vehicle was not moving very fast.

At 9,000 miles, took van to dealer complaining of the transmission slamming into gear.dealer performed a "quick learn" on the trans. And it was fine.at about 27,000, problem started again but this time they replaced the front pump.at 30000, same problem again, replaced transmission pump a second time and also replaced seals and gaskets.back in dealer now for same problem but delaer is claiming that cannot duplicate the problem.

While attempting to stop transmission jumped and slipped intermittently.dealer stated they were unable to duplicate the problem.

5-28-04 , 7-28-04, 2-9-05 transmission work done on the van and it still is not corrected it goes in again tomorrow for more work.a complaint #13178787 was filed with chryslerthe van shifts poorly and it gets stuck in gear when accelerating to reach highway speeds. When pulling away from stoplights the van hesitates and i have alomost been rear ended several times i am not satisfied with the way my problem is being handled by the dearleri alos feel i am not being taken seriously because i am a female mh.

Dt: beginning last year owner was having repeated problems with vehicle. About two weeks ago, there was a noise coming from front end, two or three people looked at it and couldn't find a problem. Then another dealership found the problem which was the bushings had not been greased, and all front end suspension bolts were loose. No recalls on the vehicle as far as owner knows.as owner was driving the vehicle for the last few months, there has been a cracking noise and a snapping noise that seemed to come from the front suspension. This problem happened everytime the vehicle was driven. There are no other problems, problem with front end seems to be fixed. Vehicle has been repaired 15 times in the last year. These repairs have had to do with steering and suspension noise. There have been bushings replaced, steering fluid replaced, and the transmission had to be replaced at 15,000 miles.

My 2003 new dodge caravan had the transmission replaced x3, air conditioner replaced x1 then repaired again x 2, replaced starter, wheel bearing, tie rod & continues to have problems.these major problems started when the car had only 30, 000 miles and is only at 60, 000 miles.the dealer nor chrysler corporation will replace or refund this car stated it does not fall under lemon law.multiple time lost from taking in this car to be fixed along with extra money spent to get rentals while this car was in the shop.

Transmission failure - returned the vehicle to dealer for warranty service.dealer diagnosed problem, removed transmission, and overhauled the transmission replacing the front pump, seals and fluid.

Even on the slightest incline, van rolls backwards while in drive.this is the first automatic that i ever had do this.it could be dangerous if you take your foot off the brake and someone walks behind you or another car is too close.i noticed this the first day i drove it. *la

While driving the transmission surges-at start when i accelerate the vehicle does not move-then it catches and goes. At low speed it downshifts hard and then upshifts hard. Happened many times-dealer replaced front pump in the transmission-last time "unable to duplicate".*la

While driving at any speed consumerheard a noise coming from the engine.at 200 miles dealer replaced brakes and differential. At 900 miles dealer replaced the automatic transmission.

Transmission problems, not shifting into gear and when in drive even on a slight incline car rolls backwards.the latter could cause an accident if the car in back is too close.*la

When the consumer depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle had no acceleration.the vehicle was takento the dealership and they indicated that vehicle was operating as designed by the manufacturer.when the vehicle passed another, it would sound as if the clutch was out of gear and the motor would race and slow down. *sc

Own a 2003 dodge grand caravan sport . Car was towed to dodge dealer on friday july 20,2006, due to rough engine idling. Was told that it was a pcm , would take until the following wednesday to have to part shipped in ( i live in the chicago area ). On thursday dodge called to say that the rocker arm in the # 5 piston needed to be replaced, this would take additional time. The rocker arm was replaced and again dodge called to advise me that now there was a short in the electrical harness and they would need to trace to locate the short. Car was finally returned to me on august 9,2006 . My wife used it to go to the store , she called me and said the car had died while stopping at a red light .this was just 4 hours after picking the car up from the dealer. Car was again towed to dodge dealer. Total time dodge has had my car is now 21 days and counting . I've had to rent 3 different cars during this time all on my own expense .

On 6/18/03, vehicle stalled without warning while driving.dealer diagnosed problem with control module and replaced.the next day, vehicle stalled again while driving.

Left drive shaft broke pulling out of parking space. Right drive shaft became very noisywhen driving.

While driving at any speed consumerheard a noise coming from the engine.at 200 miles dealer replaced brakes and differential. At 900 miles dealer replaced the automatic transmission.

While driving 15 mph,the vehicle was involved in a rear end collision.upon, impact both passenger front and rear seat belts failed to restrain the passengers.this caused both passenger to sustained minor injuries.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.please provide further details.

Driver side seat belt tongue could not be inserted into latch. The latch could not be opened, no matter how manipulated.this is safety hazard as the driver cannot latch seat belt.

2003 dodge grand caravan with seat belts concerns **nar**ccthe consumer stated that seat belts have a safety defect.

I would like to complain about the dodge seat belts.with the studies done why dodge hasn't changed all seat belts that aren't safe or achieved a high safety rating.i have ordered a 2003 dodge grand caravan and i am concerned about the seat belts in the back and middle seats. I would like for dodge to as an option on new vehicles at the least be able to trade in the 3 seat belts for the 4 grand caravan front seat belts.dt

Unsafe gen3 seat belts - request to demand that daimlerchryler recall all vehicle types that have the gen3 seat belts.

The passenger side seat belt warning light turns on even when there is no one in that seat and the passenger side seat belt releases when there is someone in the seat! adults and older children have put the seat belt in place but the warning light stays on. While driving or sitting still, the seat belt will release at random, causing the passenger to have to click it into place again. When the passenger clicks the seat belt in place and pulls on it, it either stays in position or releases. If it stays in position, then while driving and or parked, the seat belt will suddenly release. When the driver had to step harder on the brake to avoid a driver who stopped suddenly, the seat belt released yet at other times, the seat belt remains in place. It doesn't matter whether or not the van is in gear or parked, or if we're stopped, moving, highway driving or city driving, the seat belt will release at random times. This had happened multiple times since we bought the vehicle, sometimes multiple times in one trip. Other times it doesn't happen at all. The date given is the most recent time that it released on its own. I had been parked and then was backing out of a parking space when my daughter's seat belt (passenger side) released on its own. I stopped and put the van in park then had her click in place again. We both pulled on it and since it didn't release, we continued our trip, praying that it wouldn't disconnect again while we were driving.

Daimlerchrysler gen3 seatbelt buckle - prone to failure.

Dt*:the contact stated that both the front driver and passenger side seatbealts became unbuckled in a crash.the vehicle experienced both a frontal and rear impact; the crash involved 3 other vehicles.the vehicle was 2nd in the row of vehicles involved in the collision.the vehicle was travelling 70 mph at the time of the accident. The incident was the first time the consumer encountered the seatbelt becoming unbuckled without depresssing the release button.the buckle was free of dirt and other contaminants.the contact's feet went through the front passenger side of the windshield.the passenger sustained a broken left toe, crushed left foot, cuts on the right foot and leg.the driver sustained airbag burns on both arms and chest, as well as a knot on the head.the vehicle was totalled, and pictures were taken.a police report was filed.the manufacturer was contacted who directed the contact to the contact's insurance company.

I purchased my 2003 dodge grand caravan and took it into hall dodge dealership in virginia beach va for routine maintenance and informed them that my passenger seat belt continuously unlocks itself and has to be checked regularly for security while driving.i took the vehicle in once again for a second time and reiterated that the seat belt was doing the same thing.they told me the vehicle was just over the warranty and would cost almost $300 to repair the seat belt.i told them it was a safety item and to check for recalls.the service guy told me that the bottom locking devise on the seat belt was inoperable and needed to be replaced.please look into this matter as the seat belt is very unsafe.

Dt: 2003 dodge grand caravan - the seat belts did not lock during an accident.this was a rear impact crash. Consumer's vehiclestopped at a light, and traffic has just started to move, and vehicle in front started a chain reaction of stopping.the vehiclein the rear did not stop, hitting consumer'svehicle at 45 mph.upon impact, consumer slammed on the brakes andthe other car went under the rear of consumer's vehicle. Consumer'swife hit her face on the dashboard, and consumer hit the side of his face on the steering wheel. Since the accident no one inspected the vehicle to see why the seat belts did not lock during the impact.consumer hadthe van for five weeks. A police report was taken, and there two persons wereinjured.

On at least three separate occassions, my daughter's gen3 seat belt has unlatched with no apparant cause.my children are 2 1/2 and 4 and the soul purpose of buying the van was to help ensure their safety.if their belts are unlatching for no apparant reason, what will happen in a crash?they certainly will not be protected.

The rear captain's chair passenger seat in a gold dodge grand caravan at advantage rental car near the san antonio, texas airport has the seatbelt connection on the wrong side of the seat.it lookls like there are two left seats installed.i reported this to the inspector at the office and i'm told he tried to charge us $150 for damages not noted during pickup of the van.

I purchased a dodge grand caravan in 2012, and it came with the built in car seat. After using this car seat for my youngest son, we came to realize that the seat is broken. The one place that it clips to was broken. This was not safe for my son, and now the seat will not even fold down to get to the back. All dodge could say to me was they were sorry but basically was not their problem.

My wife and 3 children, in a 2003 dodge grand caravan were hit in the rear while stopped at a red light. The driver seat broke, and collapsed to the full recline position during the wreck. This has caused my wife to haveback, neck, head, and a left knee injury. I told dodge about this seat, so they sent an investigator out, then wrote me back saying the seat was not broke but bent, and that i had no claim. When i went to pick the car up from the body shop, the owner showed me the seat, pulled the cover down to see that the metal tube was split in two. I took the seat to the local dodge dealership, and they too agreed the seat broke. Now, i have the seat and pictures. The only way to actually see the seat back is broken, is to pull the cloth material away to see it. The body shop owner said the dodge investigator never looked inside the seat. Although, i could tell it was broken when i arrived at the accident, by the way the seat back was kind of twisted, and tweaked over to one side. There have been lawsuits in the past on chrysler/dodge because these seat have killed babies in a baby carrier behind the driver seat because of these seat reclining back, and yet dodge is in denial.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. While driving from the gas station at 5 mph, the brakes failed to work without warning. The contact also noticed smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on highway 52 in florida where it was diagnosed that the frame that held the motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted and was not aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

I purchased my dodge grand caravan in november 2002 and since then i have had to have the abs sensor replaced on the right rear wheel six times.despite the continuous problem the dealership service department has stated that there can be no underlying cause for this failure.

About six months ago, my wife's van has been making a whining sound from the steering pump.the noise intensifies once the steering wheel is being turned.i was told that the steering pump may have to be replaced.eventhough this van is 6 years old, it was in storage for 3 years.the car was operated once a month in storage.this shouldn't be happening.

Started the car and noticed a high pitched noise which increased when the wheel was turned and the car accelerated - the steering was stiff and the idle was really low.after letting the car warm up for about 1/2 hour the sound was gone, but the idle remained low.about a year ago something similar happend after startup - we had below freezing temperatures, and this time the car's steering would not move and the car would stall - it wasn't until about an hour of running time until the car's steering wheel was able to move.

Power steering fails on 2003 dodge grand caravan on mornings when it rains.huge safety risk since vehicle cannot be turned without extreme manual effort...impossible for my wife!dealership says rack and pinion is bad and needs replacing ($1400).internet says this is very common in these vehicles from 2002-2006!why has it not been recalled for a safety retrofit?

Power steering makes terrible whining noise and steering wheel shudders and is hard to turn - worse in colder temperatures. Problem started when van had less than 30k, it now has 58k miles. Van has ext. Warranty through dodge covering even seals & gaskets, but since dealer calls this a "nuisance" problem - it's not warranty. We are very, very frustrated with dodge.

Power steering pump was very noisy and steering would become stiff under certain conditions. Mechanic says it is a poor design of filter in power steering reservoir.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan.in december 2003, four months after purchasing the vehicle, the contact heard a noise coming from the steering column at 20 mph.the vehicle was inspected and no failures could be found.throughout the years, the failure occurred on approximately twelve occasions.the mechanic test drove the vehicle, heard the noise, and stated that it was a common failure among the 2003-2005 grand caravans.although the mechaniccompleted other recall repairs, he felt that he could not remedy this particular failure.the contact stated that the mechanic may have caused the failure to worsen.the contact has documentation of all the repairs.the current mileage is 23,100 , and failure mileage was 2,025.

I own a 2003 grand caravan currently with 43,000 miles on it.at a little less than 40,000 miles the power steering pump starting making a horrible noise, didn't matter if you were turning the wheel or not; more often on a rainy or cold morning, now its all the time.i contacted dodge since i have an extended service plan, to no avail.i have no coverage on the power steering pump or rack and pinion, but im covered on things that my husband could do in the backyard.what a story i was fed, when i bought this $900 coverage.i was told to go to a certified service center and pay $65 for a diagnostic test, ummm it doesn't require a diagnostic test, it requires 30 seconds of listening.then and only then would they consider possibly helping me with this repair.when i bought the service plan, i was told $100 deductible for all repairs, end of story.i cannot believe that a vehicle with mileage could have an issue like this already.dodge does not want to help!!!!

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan.in rainy weather conditions, the vehicle would sporadically lose power steering ability.the risk of a crash or serious injury were increased.the contact has taken her vehicle to the dealer on numerousoccasions, but they could not identify the cause of the failures.the manufacturer did not provide any assistance.as of october 6, 2008, the vehicle has not been properly repaired.the failure mileage was 17,000 and current mileage was 65,000.

Power steering in 2003 dodge grand caravan is failing for the third year in a row. I have twice replaced the power steering pump. It fails during winter months.*tw

The power steering hose failed.the power steering leaked and replaced under recall 037.the vehicle began smoking and had no power steering.the power steering hose blew off the rack clamp was not installed properly.shortly thereafter, the garage was smoke-filled and a pool of fluid was on the floor.the remote was inoperative. *sc

I have a 2003 dodge grand caravan that was purchased in december of 2004. I noticed that the power steering was making a humming noise. Turning, and idling. I also noticed that it was sporadic and would go on for days and then one day would not make a sound. I have taken it to the dealer and they told me the power steering fluid was low. I checked it many times and it was fine. They told me that the power steering needed to be flushed and there should be no reason for power steering to be flushed. I am seriously concerned that something terrible is going to happen with this issue. I have an extended warranty and the dealer said that it is not anything that needs to be replaced. I don't feel good about this at all!!! we are about at 54,000 miles and this started happening about 8 months ago or so.

This model has steering issues. With only 60k miles i have had to replace the rack and pinion 2 separate times already and now the power steering pump is going out.

I am the victim of a fraudulent close out of a factory recall.i have been trying to get chrysler to fix one of their own recalls on a 2003 dodge grand caravan.i took the car to three dealerships to try to get satisfaction.two of those have since gone out of business.the third refuses to help in any way.my complaint is that some dealership has already closed out the ticket for fixing the power steering return hose on my 2003 dodge grand caravan.the car was never fixed:it still has the factory hose.finally i took the car to an independent garage where a former chrysler technician worked who was familiar with the problem..he said that not only had the recall never been done, but the design was faulty.the power steering return hose is so short that the synthetic atf that is used as power steering fluid foams up causing problems with belching out fluid, power steering failure, pump failure and eventually rack and pinion failure.i told him not to touch the power steering because the recall was never performed.he agreed that the repair had never been done and estimated the repair cost at $800.00 to put a new rack and pinion and to repair the faulty design per the chrysler technical service bulletin.my problem now is the pump has gone bad too which will add another $500.00 to the price.my dodge grand caravan vin is [xxx].can you please help me?my phone number is [xxx].the phone at thedealership that refuses to help is [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The 2203 grand caravan has had a recall on the upper power steering hose and was serviced. A recurring noise started. Under a extended warranty the power steering pump has been replaced twice and the rack once. 6 months after the last service the noise came back and lower power steering hose into the cooler blew off while driving causing sudden loss of power steering. (no crash) replaced hoses with better clamps and back flushed power steering reservoir. Internet sources have indicated a filter screen in the power steering reservoir. Could this be causing the large listing of same problems on the internet?

2003 grand caravan sport, steering wheel is stiff during winter for the first 5 to 10 mins in the morning.

I have a 2003 grand caravan that i purchased new.there was sporadic shudders in the steering system when new and at low(parking lot) speeds.now at approx 62000 miles i have to replace the steering rack and power steering pump to the tune of approx $1100 (not completed at this time)there is no warranty coverage for this failure.this failure at this low mileage cannot be normal ware and tear.thank you.

I have had numerous problems with my 2003 dodge grand caravan, but my steering is unsafe.after over 5 attempts to correct the steering problem, and 2 near accidents, i feel chrysler has done nothing to address my concerns.if i wait until i do get into an accident before they take my concerns seriously, it will be to late.*la

I had the power steering upper hose recall done back in may of 2005.before then i was not having any trouble with noise.since the recall work was done i am having ongoing noise from my power steering.i have taken it back asking about the noise.i was told that the engineers knew about the noise and were working on it.last week, march 27, 2008, i took it in to have something done.i was told that the problem can't be fixed however, if i was willing to have it flushed for about $150.00 that this might help with no sure guarantee that it would improve.i think the tech might have not properly followed the procedure to fixed the recall which has resulted in the contamination of the power steering fluid.this has caused me this problem.

2003 dodge grand caravan. High pitched whining sound while turning steering wheel. Comes and goes. Fluid level is fine. Fluid color and smell is fine,no air bubbles in fluid.seems to be the worst after driving highway speeds then driving in town. Sometimes goes away after shutting vehicle off for a few minutes. Dealer recommends a flush.bought vehicle used at 29000 miles. Problem seemed to start shortly after. A $80 flush isn't going to fix the problem after reading about the same problem others are having. Seems like some sort of restriction on the intake side of the system.

Groaning in power steering, dealership fitted ps cooler and extra length of hose - did not fix problem

Power steering was making a whining noise about a year after we got it, i took it into the dealer and they could not find a problem. After 4 visits back to the dealer they replaced the power steering rack 6 months later the noise is back. I know of 3 other people that have the same mini van and they all have experienced the same problem.

Whenever the temperature is 40 degrees or colder the power steering system in my 2003 dodge grand caravan admits a loud high pitch whining sound, the steering wheel can be very hard to turn until the engine is warmed up, and also a shudder is felt thru the steering wheel. This problem has occurred every year since we have owned the car, occurring when the weather cools off. We take it into the dealer every year. For the past 2 years the solution has been to flush the system and tighten the hoses. This year the solution is suppose to be a power steering fluid cooler, which the car is now out of warranty, will cost $220.00. I refuse to pay for this work has the problem has occurred every year, and only now is there a redesign for the system that never worked properly in the first place.when i contacted dodge corporate office for resolution on this matter, i was last told to take the car to the dealer. But the cooperate agent could not tell me what the dealer was going to do or at what cost. Basically i am getting the round around for what is a safety problem that will cause an accident.

The contact owns a 2004 dodge grand caravan.when the contact turns the vehicle, he heard a squeaking sound underneath the hood.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions and was serviced each time.the failure persists.the current mileage was 70,300 and failure mileage was 5,000.the consumer received a saftey recall notice in the mail regarding the power steering hose and a possible fire. The consumer stated the problem has not been fixed. Updated

The consumer received recall notice # 04v386000. Several attempts have been made to get the vehicle serviced, but the dealer did not have parts and will not respond to consumer.

Two tsb's that should have been done when the recall was done have now cost me $300.00 because chrysler does not feel responsible, since they were not part of the recall, even though they do deal with the steering, that is not covered by the warranty..i was told that the 2 updates are required on all 2000-2004 chrysler vans.

Van has been to the dealer 6 times for steering problem whining noise rack was replaced once and pump was replaced 3 times.

Arecall for the power steering hose was issued.consumer stated the recall was repaired three times, however the problem recurred. Campaign id number : 04v386000 *tc

While applying the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the pump needed to be replaced and replaced it...numerous occasions consumer applied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would go but would then hesitate, and almost quit running.after the pump was replaced, the problem still there. With trying to accelerate from a stop with cross traffic coming, and still distance away the vehicle will hesitate, and almost stop running. This could result very badly.

Dt:the contact stated the power steering pump started shuttering and makinga weird noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and was fixed.they replaced a hose, and added an additional cooler.he stated there wasatechnocal servic ebulletin (tsb)for this. It would not completely correct the problem.he has a relative who works for chrysler, and he states this is a problem for the 2003-2005 models.

Dt: consumer purchased vehicle december 2003 and had to have the power steering pump replaced in february 2004, the same thing happened again. Consumer tookthe vehicle to a private service dealer in march 2005, and she had the pump replaced again.the vehicle is doing the same thing, and the vehicle is currently at the same service dealer.the vehiclemade noises when turning the corner or when parking.it would humanytime the steering wheel was turned.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, there was popping noise and a pronounced vibration within the front suspension.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the stabilizer bar bushings were worn and needed to be replaced.although the bushings were not replaced, while applying pressure to the brakes at any speed, the popping noise progressively got worse.the contact inspected the vehicle and determined it was both tie rod end ball joints that were worn and needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was not alerted.

After making "clunking noises for approximately 25,000 miles my steering rack wore out at approximately 35,000 miles. The dealer replaced it under 100% warranty, and now my replacement rack ( a remanufacured unit) started making the same noises after approximately 4,000 miles.hen the rack was replaced i was informed that i may incur the same problem with the replacement rack as chrysler was having a problem with their steering racks. I complained about the noise after i had exceeded the 3yr./36000 mile warranty.as i mistakenly thought i had a 12 mo./12,000 warranty on the replacement rack.the dealer informed me that the warranty had expired once i exceed the 3/36,000 guaranty and after speaking to chrysler customer service in detroitthe dealer offered me a 50/50 guarantee...i am still in communication w/the dealerand am waiting to find out what their district mgr. Decided about a possible 100%eplacement.if this is happening to me and what i heard about this being a more widespread problem is true, i felt i should bring this to your attention.please note that i am a former new york state licensed automotive damage adjuster/investigator.

Noise in steering when first started took it to dealer said it was internal leak in rack & pinion checked service record and saw that rack&pinion was replaced a year ago.confronted service department they said warranty had expired. In my opinion apart as important as this should not need to be replaced in one year. Also notice that alot of people complaining about this same problem on the internet.

-the contact stated that there was a humming and low grade vibration that onehear could while driving in low speed, especially when turning.the contact took the 2002 dodge grand caravan to the dealer, and they stated that therewas a defect in the rack and pinion steering.a local mechanic stated that there wasa recall on the chrysler town and country similar to the failure this vehicle had.the failure mileage was 80000 , and the current mileage was 102000.

2003 dodge grand caravan sport. Undercarriage and rocker panels are severely corroded and holes forming throughout the bottom of van. This van is too new to have this severe of corrosion. Could exhaust be leaking in van and pose hazard while we drive also, van will not pass massachusetts safety inspection so either it has to be repaired or scraped.

Just above both sliding doors (left and right side) on the drip rail there is aproximately a 3 inch crack in the seam of the sheet metal in a total of 4 spots.the dealer states i will have to wait until 11/03/2003 for them to have their body shop which is not on site have a look at it. I have made known my concerns with dodge corp whose number was supplied by the dealer and spoke to teresa whom said all i have was warranty, well my concern is the srtucture of the roof one, two is the water entering the inner sheet metal parts of the vehicle after all as they stated after the 7 years they are done with the warranty. It would seem to me that they know there is a problem and as a customer who stills owns a 1994 grand caravan with 155,000 miles on it i wish to keep my new vehicle. I am not asking for a new roof as was asked by the dealer just a little assurance that if in 7 years and 3 months ect. If the vehicle rots from this factory defect why should i be liable for the repair if it is a factory defect. As i also said what about the structure and safety from this problem there has to be a reason why the seam is opening up.

2003 dodge grand caravan es: february 2010. During a recent snowstorm, after using the rear defroster and front windshield defroster and sitting in the van for about 1/2 an hour to de-ice the windows and warm up the vehicle, i pressed the rear window wiper button.the rear wiper started its normal motion and then stops abruptly as it broke through the rear window which shattered into many small eggshell like pieces.there was glass almost all the way up to the driver's front seat.half the rear window was completely shattered and gone while the remainder of the rear window glass was still attached but shattered into many small cracked eggshell like pieces.it was fortunate this happened with the vehicle parked.

About the beginning of october we noticed the passenger floor area began to have white spots. I tried vacuuming the area but the spots quilky reappeared and grew larger. Then i realized the spots were mold. Yesterday, i pulled back the carpet. To my horror, the underside of the carpet was engulfed in a white fuzzy mold. The mold was growing in the carpet, the underlayment and up the underside of the dash to a round plastic area. I believe this is either for the ac or heater or both. I'm sure this is from some type of water leak as from time to time passengers would say the floor area was wet. For some time, my family has been complaining about getting sick every time they ride in the van. I believe the mold is the culprit.

I was driving down the road slees limit was 45 i was doing 50 md a deer came out in front of me and i hit it head on thw whole front ends of my car is at my windshield. It was a very hard impact that brought me to a complete stop m y air bags dis not deploy as they should have with a impact like that

Crack in seam seal on all four doors of 2003 dodge grand caravan.vehicle less than one month old.each crack is about two inches long and an eighth inch wide.water path to internal frame.

Roof seams above left and right sliding doors cracked at all stress points, a total of 4 areas at least 3 inches each crack.*la

Dt*: the contact stated there was cracking on the roof where the front doors met the roof and body.the front doors were off alignment and it looked as though the roof was pulling up.the dealership determined the service representative needed to inspect the vehicle.

Roof seams above left and right sliding doors cracked at all stress points, a total of 4 areas at least 3 inches each crack.*la

As reported by the 3 other complaints regarding the seam tear/separation located on top of the roof within the water channel and stripping. There are total of 4 defects each ranging from 1 to 3 inches in length and 1/8 in width. 3 of the 4 defects sit just outside and parallel to the weather stripping. The defects are not protected at all from the elements and will result in damage or failure to the interior and electrical components over time.a closer look at the tear revealed jaggered edges (tear) suggesting some sort of stress is occurring, whether from the sliding door or everyday use. I will leave that up to the engineers to conduct an investigation of the defect, and since the defect is repeatable (all four areas) an investigation is warranted.the defect itself is located in an obscured location on the van, were most customers would never know to look until it is too late and out of warranty, which results in additional cost to the customer.

Undercarriage and rocker panels of our 2003 dodge caravan sport are so severely corroded, this vehicle will not pass inspection. We feel this is premature corrosion for such a new vehicle. Chrysler corp. Is going by what the dealership allen mello chrysler/dodge in nashua, new hampshire is advising them. We feel chrysler should honor the repair or at least partial money for the repair. The vehicle is mechanically sound and we would like to keep it.

While driving at any speed the consumer heard a rattling sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The dealerexamined the vehicle and found that the sway bar link broke.the consumer believes this is a premature failure and that the part should be recalled.

Ball joints have failed several times.should be a recall as the failure of the joints prevents a vehicle from passing inspection as it is an important safety issue.

During a march 2016 road trip to atlanta, ga, from michigan, while traveling about 65 mph on i-75, temperature gauge needle began to climb toward the red zone on the instrument dial.within minutes i pulled off onto a highway construction site where i stopped the vehicle and turned off the ignition switch.opening the hood, i began to investigate the problem(s).cool upper radiator hose.cool radiator cap.turned cap off and discovered no coolant in radiator.no apparent source of leaking.added ice water from ice chest to radiator hoping to locate source of leak.turned engine on and located leak beneath passenger side of vehicle:two small holes in corroded exposed steel tubing routing coolant to rear heater assembly in rear of van.the next day discovered that chrysler had changed the part from steel to aluminum in late 2000's to help prevent the corrosive action of road salt in the northern climates that had affected many similar vehicles during the mid-2000's.however, daimler chrysler chose not to institute a recall of the faulty designed part fully exposed beneath the vehicle.the cost of replacing the part at the dealership in stone mountain, ga, was around $650.00 usd, not a huge sum, but obviously not cost-efficient for the automaker and its shareholders.this problem could be life-threatening if the driver and passengers were stranded during the winter months in northern u.s. Or canada, when loss of all coolant occurred.operating vehicle with no coolant could result in the engine seizing up while traveling at highway speeds, causing injury to driver and passengers and possibly other motorists. A dangerous situation that chrysler has corrected on its later model vehicles since 2010 or 2011.

Grand caravan sports are extremely easy to break into and even easier to steal. A 13-year-old with a standard sized screwdriver is all it takes to gain access and drive off with your vehicle <1 minute. Any accomplices are well-hidden by the privacy glass. There are no "cars of choices" for auto thieves, it's whatever is quick and easy. This accessibility issue is common to all daimler-chrysler vehicles, not just the caravan fleet. D.c. Vehicles are quickly gaining status as "easy to steal, quick to stash, not to mention an abundant pool of possibilities"...expect to pay nearly $3000.00 (low end) for someone else's joy ride and wait approximately three to four weeks while repairs are made.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated and the horn and vehicle speed control stopped working.the dealer stated that the clockspring was the cause of the failure.the repair would cost $300.the failure mileage was 92,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 30 mph, the engine revved without warning.the rpms rose to 4500, and dropped back down to 2000.the vehicle was shut off and restarted, but the problem recurred immediately.the vehicle was not seen by a dealer.

Dt: pulled into parking space at low speed with foot on the brake and experienced uncontrolled acceleration.the car jumped the concrete barrier and hit 2 poles that were in the parking stalls in front of it and one on the right.towed to a dodge dealer, and immediately contacted chrysler, who sent out an inspector.consumer along with the insurance agency awaited the inspector'sreportwhichindicated thatthere was nothing wrong with the vehicle.no repairs were made except the repairs for the body damage.no explanation as to why this incident occurred.no police report takendue to the fact that the only damage occurred was on the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge grand caravan. While driving at an unknown speed, the speedometer failed without warning. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

The airbag light remains on continuous, the horn is not working, the cruise control isn't working, and drivers side power window makes a squealing noise.i called an automobile repair service and was told that it was the clock spring on the steering wheel.i called a dodge dealer and was told that there was no recall on the part.

Passenger sliding door window - window shattered while driving down the highway - the window was not hit by anything the molding is missing from the sides of the widow - it seems as thou the glue and molding came apart from the body of the car - looks like molding holds the glass -

Dt*: the contact stated that the front passenger window would not roll down.the vehicle was parked when the incident occurred.the dealer was called on 07/07/06 and agreed to repair the window for a charge.the manufacturer was also called on 07/07/06 who offered no resolution.

Both power windows ceased operation around 40k miles.

Purchased new 2003 dodge grand caravan 1-14-2003. On 12-8-2003 and 24638 miles driver's side power windowregulator and motor assembly repaired under warranty. Power window failed again around4-1-2006 and 54400 miles, which is about 30000 miles later. Wife being handicapped person needs the window to work and experience massive bruising on left arm due when going through drive through at bank and post office due to trouble reaching around door to drop off and deposit boxes. This is also a safety issue, since rhuematoid arthritis affects her hands, wrists and arms. She would not be able to break open a window in an emergency.

My passenger and driver power windows stop working, sometimes for long periods of time.in addition, the ignition key will not turn from it's locked position (steering wheel is "not" locked)

My driver side windowworks intermittently. It will power down but not back up. It is more severe in cold weather. If you slam the door it will sometimes re-engage the window to work.. When investigating the problem , many owners stated the same problem. It seems to be the wire harness is being crushed. If you put a block of wood between doorframe and motor the window seems to work.

The weather stripping securing the windsheild came loose and detached from the vehicle. I had to stop in the breakdown lane on the highway and had to hold the flapping piece of weather stripping while driving. The longer i drove the more it became detached due to the wind preasure.

Consumer complained about visibility problems.there was a reflection of the windshield that impaired vision while driving.consumer spoke with the dealer, and dealer indicated he did not haveany problems with it.

Dt*: the contact stated the tires leaked air and needed to be filled every day.the dealership replaced the valve stem, but the problem persisted.the alloy wheels were pitting which caused the air to leak.

Crome rims on 2003 grand caravan rusted on inside of rim and tires will not hold air.was told that dodge rims were known to rust on the inside and around the bead, and have to buy four new ones or keep putting air in tires every day.i worry it will fail while driving with wife and kids. Repair dealer grinded rim , but still leaking.
