While driving the vehicle's air bag light illuminated indicating there was a problem with the air bag. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the air bags may not deploy in an accident.

Air bag light come on and off during driving have check all connection and found no problem.

Airbag light turns on and off intermittently while driving the vehicle. Drb iii scan tool indicated driver's squib circuit #2 failure. Clock spring replaced, correcting the failure. Failed part retained by dealer.

The van's airbag sensor light came on intermittently for a couple of weeks, then stayed lighted from then to date.bought the vehicle used, so idon't know if this is the first time it has had this problem, but it has not been in any type of collision.i am concerned that my airbags will not deploy in the event of a crash.

The airbag light comes on each time i start the engine and stays on .

Dt*: the contact stated the air bag warning light stays illuminated.the light occasionally goes off, but when the contact hits a bump in the road, the lightilluminates again.the dealership determined the clock spring was bad.there is an nhtsa recall, # 04v480000, regarding the air bags. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

We have a 2002 dodge grand caravan, and the air-bag light goes on and stays on for awhile, then goes off.i called daimler-chrysler and they gave me no satisfaction.it is not on the recall list.we also havea 2000 chrysler grand voyager, and the light has never gone on, but it is on the recall list.there are numerous complaints about the 2002.this has been going on for the past two years.

My wife was driving the 2002 dodge grand caravan sport down the street and turned right to go to work. All of a sudden both air bags deployed and shut the engine down. She didn't hit anything. They just deployed on there own. That was frightening, but just lucky she wasn't on the highway when it happened.

Accident, grand caravan was totaled. Van flipped, extensive front end, frame, side, roof, etc, damage. Neither of the front air bags deployed, nor did the side air bags. Preliminary assessments, including qualified individuals, indicate that the air bags should have deployed given the extent of the damage. Additionally, the drivers seat belt became disengaged during the accident (at the connection between belt tang and anchorage buckle).

Air bag sensors light has started to come on called dealer on 09-04-03 to set up an appoinment for 09-05-03.notice other complaints for same thing. Any recalls planed?.

On 4/17/02 i purchased a new 2002 dodge grand caravan.the salesman sold the vehicle to me with the airbag light on, informing me that it was supposed to be that way.immediately after reading my owners manual, i discovered that it was not supposed to be that way.i made arrangements to have the van checked out and since then i have had nothing but trouble with the airbag light/seat belts/automatic doors, etc.this van has been in the shop eight times for the above reasons.on 7/24/03 the abs light along with the hydraulic brake light came on.i took the vehicle to the dealership and it is still there as of today's date - 8/23/03.i contacted chrysler directly on 8/22/03 and informed them of the hazardous history of this vehicle - the airbag module has been replaced several times, the seatbelt tensioners replaced several times, automatic doors reprogrammed, etc.i informed the customer service representative, arlene, that i was afraid of the vehicle and did not want it back.i was informed by "arlene" that the vehicle parts had been delivered to the dealership and that the van would be fixed.i don't want the van "fixed".it doesn't stay "fixed"!!it is a safety hazard and i do not want to base my children's safety on their idea of a situation being "fixed" when their track record obviously stinks.am i going to have to wait until an accident and either myself or, lord forbid, one of my children are sent airborne through the windshield?i was informed by "arlene" that since the van was not in the shop for the "exact defect" every single time, that i was not eligible for a new van.i would think that the fact that the airbag system has shown it has consistent problems, the seatbelts obviously have consistent problems and now the airbag system and hydraulic brake system lights are on - isn't that enough????or do i have to die in an accident for my family to get a safe vehicle?.

Clock spring assembly wound incorrectly in air bag and the dealer refused to rectify this very important safety feature in the automobile.therefore, i was charged nearly $200 to repair their failure to provide a safe car.the vehicles manufactured in the years 1995-2000 were all recalled for this safety failure, it seems they never addressed the problem because it is still continuing in my 2002 dodge grand caravan.

Air bag failure reported to dodge in 2003 and many attempts to have it fixed have failed. Code says passanger air bag defective and air bag light comes on. In many years the dealer has not fixed the problem. They simply reset the code to turn the light off and later it comes back on. The first reported failures were under the warranty. Then they charge $ 100.00 to turn the light and this has happened over 10 times in the past years. This is a manufacturing problem (not a wear item) and should be fixed under the warranty. The dealer now wants over a 1,000 to remove the dash asm justr to determine if it is a wiring, connection problem or if the air bag is actually bad. I have all the service records verifying my claim.

On 12/24/1, on a smooth road, a warning bell sounded and the airbag warning light came on.the warning light stayed on for the next couple of hours.then, the light went off and stayed off.the next time the vehicle was driven, the same thing happened, only this time the airbag warning light came on and off intermittently with no relation to speed, turning, breaking, bumpy road, etc.

Airbag sensor light continues to stay on. Dealer notified.

At 42k miles, the airbag light kept turning on and off.the dealership said "driver squib circuit open" and charged me to replace the clockspring.problem went away for a while.but now at 72k miles, the problem is back.why aren't the 2002's covered in the recall?my symptoms are identical to that listed on the recall (which only covers up to 2000).

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the air bag light illuminated and has remained lit for some time.the dealer stated that the air bags were not under recall.the failure mileage was 80,000.updated 09/16/08.*ljupdate 09/18/08.

Malfunctioning clockspring in air bag.

First incident was the airbag light came on intermittently.the dealer repaired it last week.today, the entire instrument panel functioned intermittently.dealer was called and another repair date was set.

I purchased a new 2002 dodge caravan on 4/17/02.on 5/27/02 the van was in the dealership with the airbag light on (this was the second time it was in the shop for this same problem - previously in on 4/25/02).according to the dealer, the seat belt tensioner circuit was opened, wires traced back from acm to tensioner, no crimps found, module needed to be replaced.the airbag control module was then replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently and the cruise control malfunctioned. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 203,000.

In my 2002 dodge grand caravan. My airbag light would come on for two days. Then it would go off for three days. If i turn my wheels to the left it would come on then it would go off. When i took itto autozone to check out why that light was on he stated to take it to the dealership to have it checked. But it never came back on till a week later.

On 12/25/2010 my family and i was driving in our 2002 dodge grand caravan sport, vin # [xxx]. We slide on ice and snow going down a hill and at about 35-40 mph we smashed into a tree head on. Both airbags failed to deploy and both front seat belts did not lock.lucky no big injuries. The whole front end, metal bar, radiator, hood and frame were all damaged. If the tree would have been any larger, we would have had serious injuries.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The air bag light came on and stayed on and the horn quit working.i had to have clockspring and passenger airbag jumper wiring replaced costing $524.00.these are parts previously recalled on earlier models, should not be considered as "wearable" parts, and involve the safety of the vehicle and therefore should also be considered for recall for this year.

Air bag light kept comming on intermittently.first attempt at repair in 2004 resulted in no problem found, but the intermittent problem persisted.second attempt at repair showed a bad clock-spring for the airbag that could result in a failure to operate properly during a collision (especially if the check airbag light was active).other models of dodge products have had recalls for this issue but there is not currently a recall on the 200 grand caravan ex (note that my vehicle is high milage with over 50k miles).

Reported airbag light to dealer.set up appointment.brought vehicle in, was informed that the body controler not communicating with airbag modual.wiring ok, needs airbag module or bcm.was then informed that it is not under warranty due to mileage.the mileage at the time of call into dealer was around34,000.because of their busy schedule it took over a month to get the vehicle into them.by the time i drove over to the appointment a month later the vehicle was "out of warrranty".parts on back order.

Airbag light has had to be reset by dealer several times since we have bought the vehicle new in 2002.tired of paying $100 for them to provide a temporary, unexplained ineffective repair.

I rolled into the woman in front of me and my airbags deployed.there was no damage to either car except for the airbags.the driver airbag smacked me in the face and chest and thumb. I was only going about 3 mph because i had stopped and the woman in front of me had stopped and we were both going forward to merge into traffic at a really slow speed.i rolled into her and a second or two later the airbag deployed.updated 12/03/15*lj

My wife was driving the 2002 dodge grand caravan sport down the street and turned right to go to work. All of a sudden both air bags deployed and shut the engine down. She didn't hit anything. They just deployed on there own. That was frightening, but just lucky she wasn't on the highway when it happened.

I purchased a new 2002 dodge grand caravan on 4/17/02.on 4/25/02 the vehicle was in the dealership for the airbag light being on.a seatbelt tensioner had to be replaced.

5-8-02 wiring harness falls into serpentine belt. Harness not replaced, repaired also replaced cam sensor.i was told the belt wasn't put in properly at the at the dodge plant.van has intermittent power surges.dealer cant find anything.dodge gave me an extended warranty because of this problem.i think they knew something.-27-03 replaced transmission solenoid pack.2-25-03 van making humming noise, could not find problem8-22-03 air bag light is on.replaced passanger side airbag.8-22-03 speedometor out of calibration, instrments flipped around backwards9-30-03 left front stabolizer bar making noise. Repared9-30-03 car shaking during a turn, repaired9-29-03 power surge again, can't find the problem10-22-03 air bag light on again, replaced clock spring.i'm consulting an attorney, i feel this van is not safe.i want dodge to replace the vehicle, it's a lemon and a danger on the road!who's to say if the air bag won't go off as i'm driving...or maybe not, when i need it.this vehicle clearly has an electrical problem that will never be found.voss dodge has been very understanding about this problem. Unfortunately they can't figure it out either.

I purchased a pre-owned 2002 dodge grand caravan from the original owner.it had about 32000 miles on it.at about 40000 miles the air bag warning light began to come on and then go off on an intermittent basis.at about 41500 miles the air bag light was on most of the time.the local dodge dealer said the problem was in the wiring harness for the air bag system.the diagnosis cost $88.00.the wiring harness replacement part cost about $10.00.the labor to replace the part cost about $213.00.total cost about $310.it seems that this is a frequent problem in the chrysler/dodge vehicle's air bag system, because the part carried instructions for the 2002-2006 model years.this is not a wear item, but instead it is a manufacturing defect in the wiring system and/or it's connectors.the consumer should not have to pay for defective parts.the consumer pays for a vehicle that is supposed to be of good quality and equipped with safety systems that are reliable and well constructed.the manufacturer should be responsible for replacing these defective parts.

Air bag light stays on, when i use turn signal to turn left the right one comes on and vice versa, one head light will come on and after a while the other one will turn itself on, went out one night to eat and when entering the van with the automatic unlock key the security alarm went off nothing worked what we did so we had to unhook the battery for 20 mins. I was told that weird things happen when the clock spring goes bad. I was told that all 2002 dodge grand caravan's had recalls on the clock spring and when i called the dodge dealer close to me i was told my vin wasn't in the system and they refused to repair the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. While starting the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The trouble code detected that the front passenger side seat belt pretensioner was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Problems with seat tensioner and automatics doors malfunctioning.*mr air bag light remains on, as a result consumer has had the seatbelt tensioner and airbag module replaced. Automatic doors have also malfunctioned and has been reprogramed.

On 12/25/2010 my family and i was driving in our 2002 dodge grand caravan sport, vin # [xxx]. We slide on ice and snow going down a hill and at about 35-40 mph we smashed into a tree head on. The contact owns a 2002 chrysler grand caravan. While the vehicle was idling when the driver got into the vehicle, the passenger airbag deployed hitting the passenger in the face. The passenger was elderly and had a mental disability and suffered great emotional trauma, however he did not sustain any injuries. The dealer was informed and they stated that there was nothing they could do and there was no one they could call and file complaint.the approximate failure and current mileages were 80000. The consumer stated the indicator light never illuminated to indicate there was a problem. Updated 07/08/10.

While driving the vehicle was involved in an accident in which another vehicle impacted the driver's side going about 50 mph.the frontal air bags did not deploy which resulted in injuries to the driver.the vehicle was a total loss.*ph*nlm

I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan where the air bags:frontal:sensor/control module light is on.i have seen recently where there has been a recall on 2005-2006 dodge grand caravans with the same problem.i have contacted dodge (thru their web site) and never received acknowledgement of my complaint.

The air bag on the passenger side was inoperative.the air bag had to be replaced.*nlm *nlm

Air bag clockspring has been replaced 6 times. *mr there was a leak inside the vehicle on the passenger's side, a broken chain on the driver's slider door, a hesitation upon acceleration and a stalling problem (possible fuel filter problem), and a grinding noise due to the idler pulley being faulty.the consumer request compensation. *sc

I own a 2002 dodge grand caravan with approximately 11,000 miles. The air bag light has been illuminating intermittently while driving.the car is currently at the dealer for service and they indicated it would take several days to check out the wiring.as an electronic engineer i find this to be bizarre.the car has low mileage and the implication of the days to check response is that there is a frayed wire somewhere as the connector has checked out all right. If the cause is a chafed wire then there is a serious design flaw compromising the airbag safety feature.

The air bags inadvertently deployed while driving causing minor injury to the driver and passenger. The dealer has repaired the vehicle. Please provide additional information.

During a 40 mph front end vehicle collision front air bags did not deploy.consumer sustained injuries. Vehicle was towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Passenger side airbag deployed with out crash/impact.driver pulled into parking space and turned off the car.when the key was moved into the off position the air bag deployed.

Dt: contact stated the air bag lightilluminated intermittently.the dealer replaced the clock spring assembly.this appeared to have fixed the problem.there wasnhtsa recall 02v293000for this make and model, but not for the model year.updated 11/16/2005 - the headlamps cut off while the vehicle was being driven.the fcm was replaced but now the problem is more consistent with flickering.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan es.on may 13, 2007, the contact's vehicle was rear ended, forcing her to crash into another vehicle at 45 mph.the front passenger side was shoved into the other vehicle.the vehicle was destroyed.both the passenger side seat belt and air bag failed. The engine size and purchase date were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 88,000.

I purchased a new 2002 dodge grand caravan on 4/17/02.since then, this vehicle has been in the shop for multiple problems with the airbag light/seatbelt tensioners and malfunctioning automatic doors.this time the van was in the dealership for the airbag light again.per the dealership the airbag module was replaced again and tensioner overlay harness completed as per star.the rear automatic door wouldn't open again, had already been reprogrammed and this time the liftgate latch was replaced.this vehicle is a safety hazard!!!!

The air bag light went on/off intermittently.the van had 40k highway miles; this is just a few k miles shy of the warranty.after checking this website i see this is an on-going problem.what does it take to get a recall here?remember these vans are used to transport children and an early or late failure of these air bags could be disasterous. My family will get the $200 back it cost to replace the "clockspring" but i hope it does not take a death or five.

Passenger side front airbag is nonoperational.vehicle recalled in the past due to condensation buildup in the front dash area leading to electrical failure.i believe this condensation or faulty sensor may be leading to failure of the airbag component.i also drove this vehicle for 2 years in heavy salt while in upstate new york serving in the active duty army.i am currently stationed in virginia.

Consumer complained about a ball joint problem. Shetook vehicle to repair shop about 20 timesbecause it was making noises and squeaking while driving.mechanic could not resolve the problem.the dealer replaced many components related to the front end noise.the air bag light was illuminated.the technician determined that there was an open circuit.the technician replaced the passenger side air bag.the driver's seat belt had internal damage which made it difficult to buckle and unbuckle the seat belt.the consumer stated that there was a noise coming from the left front wheel.the technician determined that the front pads were worn and the rotor were grooved.the technician replaced the front pads and resurfaced the rotors.the inner tie rod was loose and caused the steering to make noise.the technician replaced the gear assembly.

The srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.driver took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic claimed that this vehicle had low battery. Upon further questioning dealership diagnosed air bag indicator lamp and claimed fault was in air bag module.upon further negotiations dealer and manufacturer decided to fix problem at their expense.

Dealership refused to honorair bag/clock spring recall 04v480000 although it was within the mileage.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.in june of 2007, whenever the vehicle was started, the air bag light continually remained illuminated.the contact took the vehicle to his local mechanic for repair and was informed that the clock spring failed.in may of 2008, the air bag light began to continually illuminate again whenever the vehicle was started.the vehicle was repaired for a second at 47,000 miles.the clock spring is currently under recall for other models and the contact would like the recall to be expanded.the original failure mileage was 39,000 and current mileage was 47,000.

The vehicle's airbag sensor light came on intermittently. Dealer notified. *nlm

Air bag sensor light continued to stay on. As a resulthorn and cruise control become inoperable. A recall for the clock spring was issued. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.*tc

Airbag light comes on every time you turn the steering wheel.dcx recalled 1996-2000 for the same defect, but it continued into 2002my (purchased in september 2001).why did nhtsa allow dcx to only recall the 96 -2000 vehicles when the problem was not fixed unitl early 2002?

1)air bag light comes on and off2) failure can result in airbag not deploying properly3)dealer (douglas county dodge) wants to charge for repair. Research indicates that this has been a problem with dodge since at least 1996. *la

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.while driving 10 mph, the passenger side air bag light illuminated.the failure occurred at both low and high speeds.the dealer stated that the air bag module failed and was not included in any recall.the contact paid for the repairs in february of 2006.the failure ceased for approximately two years, but the air bag light illuminated intermittently again in mid-march of 2008.the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new passenger side air bag module.the vehicle has not yet been repaired.through online research, she discovered a recall for the same failure, but a different vehicle year.the current mileage was 69,000 and failure mileage was 63,907.

Air bag light comes on randomly.airbag faulty . Dealer replaced them at cost $338.00. Should have been covered with only 44450 miles on 2002 dodge grand caravan. Very dissappointed with this vehicle, always in shop. Engine 4 times, tie rod ends, brake calipers ,air condition compressor locked up. Etc.

Airbag light turns on and off intermittently while driving the vehicle. Drb iii scan tool indicated driver's squib circuit #2 failure. Clock spring replaced, correcting the failure. Failed part retained by dealer.

The rear seatbelts on the rear bench of our 2002 dodge grand caravan do not stay latched on our carseats.in june of 2003 i notified dodge and they stated they had not received any complaints regarding this issue.they now have my complaint - referral #11380233.the rear bench is also not latch equipped but does have one rear top tether anchor placed in the middle.i have 3 (soon to be 4) children in carseats.i was under the impression that all seats were to be latch compatible in all positions.as for the seatbelt issue, the dealer claimed ignorance to the internet so i have printed off the stories on unsafebelts.com to take to them today when i go to pick it up.they claim they have not been able to trigger the response - but then they didn't try to buckle in one of my many carseats either so they will be doing that today.

While starting up the vehicle, the abs warning light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and themechanic determined that the wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced, which had already been replaced three times. The abs light had come on after the rear drivers side tire blew out.the dealer stated that the abs light had come on due to it being burnt out. *sc

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v234000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed was unavailable to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

On 6/11/03 vehicle was making power steering noises & auto dr locks wouldn't lock at 15 mph.replaced power hose, hose clamp & oil trans.informed i needed new brakes (22, 153 miles & didn't req that they do this when i arrived at shop).7/2/03 took van in 'cause left rear (driver side) speaker caught on fire while at a gas pump. While at gas pump w/2 of our 4 kids in the car.brakes that were just replaced prev month were squeaking as well as the steering again. (dealer-brakes squeak 'cause they are metal & there is air in the steering line).9/23/03 van battery blew up when started. Replaced battery.12/3/03 steering making noise during turns.replaced both sway bars links. 12/29/03steering is very tight & shuddering again & auto lock button on key chain won't work.ordered new power steering rack & resevoir.then on 1/6/04 tach spiked at 4k,vehicle lost power & engine light came on while on expressway w/my baby in the car.determination was the transmission solenoid assy failure & replaced the same. Hi, i own a 2002 dodge grand caravan with a 3.8l, i have had my van in on two seperate occasions to century dodge in taylor, michiagn. I have complained about theinterior and exterior lights that appear to flicker all the time, i was told by the dealership that they could not recreate the problem so they could not fix it, amazing that a possible recall now may happen for the exact same reason. On one final note, around christmas time 2004 i thought i was over tired from work, i could swear my lights completely went on and off several times (very quickly). P.s. I am a chrysler employee @ trenton engine signed, carrying a flashlight (just in case)

Head lights, running lights will only work one at a time. One side on high the other on low.have read many reports of the same problem for several years of this dodge caravan. Tried changing bulbs, disconnected plug at module worked one time . Find this very frustrating because it is not a new problem with chrysler it has been going on for several years. This is a 02 .

I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan on about 8/11 the check engine light cam on and smoke and raw fuel were coming out of the exhaust. I immediately shut down and began to diagnose the problem. I found the wiring harness on the injector fuel rail to be faulty. The harness is routed around the ignition coil directly over the exhaust pipe. The insulation had broke down over time from heat and bare wires were touching each other. The result is a potential fire hazard. The end result was also a ruined pcm. The injector wiring harness has no additional heat shielding on it, but where it plugs into the main wiring harness the main wiring harness has heat shielding material.

Dodge grand caravan just went up in flames while driving within maybe 5 minutes fire fighters control the situation but the motor ,battery, everything in front inside hood just melted i really need help i had just finished paying it when this happened. I attribute this to the faulty electrical recalls it has as well as the fuel. Help. At least i want a replacement.

Leaking fuel rail cap 2002 dodge caravan is leaking gas all over the spark plugs engine and electrical parts when 1st turning the vehicle on in the morning.

I purchased a 2002 dodge grand caravan new. Over the last year i have had multiple electrical problems. The problems caused basically two effects. The first one was that the vehicle would shut off and either not start or have difficulty starting. The second was that every time you step on the brakes, the wipers, heat, and radio would quit.at first the dearler bonneville & son could not find the problem even after putting a scope on it at the exact time the trouble occurred. I took it to an independent shop and they found a grounding stud in the door jam on the drivers side was very loose, $250.00 later it was ok. After a month the trouble came back. This time the dealer, bonneville & son found that one of the wires in the main wiring harness was rotted, $215.00 later it was ok. Another month gone by, having the same trouble again. Bonneville says the only way to be sure to fix this completely is to replace the whole main wiring harness at a material cot of $1400.00. I've tried to get crysler and the dealer to fix this with out me spending more money on rotting wires in a vehicle that's just three years old. They would not. I will never by a chrysler product again!!!

5-8-02 wiring harness falls into serpentine belt. My van was bought new and is just about 1 year old.i have been having many problems with this vehicle.the vehicle would go 30 mph by itself although i was pressing the brake.this even happened while i was driving on an icy road.the dealer said that this is normal.all the vehicle's locks would lock and unlock by themselves, sometimes locking my keys in it before i can get them out.three months after the vehicle was purchased it was returned to the dealer because the heater and air did not work properly.a fire burned the driver's door, seat, floor rugs and window.the fireman said it was an electrical fire, which started in the driver's door by the wires.the fire happened on the weekend therefore the dealer is not aware of the fire yet.i plan to go to the dealer on monday to see what can be done.the vehicle cannot be driven and the smell inside the vehicle is overwhelming.everything on drivers side is burned.i will ask for a new replacement vehicle.

I own a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the car stalls while driving.if it starts again, it stalls within 1/4 mile.you can do this only for 3 times before it finallycan not be started.brought the car to the dealership to investigate.first time they replaced the computer program module.the car worked for 100 miles, then died again while i was driving.the dealership started the car and ran a diagnostic but failed to locate any faulty codes.i asked them to take it for a test ride and see what happens.they did, and it died on them.they ran a diagnostic test and said the crankshaft sensor failed.they replaced the crankshaft sensor.again, less than 100 miles later, the car died.the dodge dealer seems to be at a loss as to why it is failing and not starting.i have owned the car for 3 years and have never had a problem with it.this seems to have them stymied.i am reporting this because there are not indications prior to failure.you lose all power to the car.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.when the air conditioner is activated, the passenger side floor becomes damp.also, the lcd screen on the radio no longer operates.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer.the contact was unable to determine the cause of failure.the current and failure mileages were 96,000.

Our 2002 dodge grand caravan with a 3.8 awd began cutting out on acceleration and at intersections recently. Currently it will die 3 or 4 times in a half a mile when it is cold. This condition has nearly caused an accident on multiple occasions as the car will stop in the middle of an intersection with out warning. No cel is present all maintenance is up to schedule. Fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, air filter, cleaned throttle body. Dealer has no idea what it can be. This is not a safe car and should be recalled due to this dangerous flaw.

The date and mileage are approximate, but this has been happening since last fall (2014).when placing the key in the acc position everything works. After starting the motor, many times the wipers, radio, power windows and internal fan will not come on for as little as a few seconds or as long as an hour. It does not to always happen, but very frequently it does. It sometimes seems to be weather related... Heat, cold, raining or snowing when this happens. The danger is shutting the vehicle off especially on a rainy/snowy day, being away from home and the wipers will not work when re-starting the vehicle. I have had the fuse and computerunits changed (total fuse power box replaced new about 1-1/2 years ago which i was told was an upgraded better sealed unit and the computer attached in front of it replaced with a used one about 1 month ago) but the problem still exists.it is my opinion this is a dangerous safety issue since it concerns the wipers not able to work. I know which fuse operates them and have tried replacing it, but this is not the problem. The problem is, it will not click on until what ever is causing it not to decides to let it come on. I believe this is a serious safety issue that should be addressed by dodge and not be an expense to myself or any other owner who has this problem. Thank you for hearing my grievance.

1)2002, dodge grand caravan, "sport" edition with v6 3.3l engine, 76,600 miles.wife went to work and parked van as usual.2a)co-workers noticed the van's wipers were on; van had started all by itself after being parked with ignition turned off, key removed, and doors locked.to get the engine stopped again, van was put into gear and turned off, then put into park to remove key.this happened several times that day.3a)wife took van to chrysler dealer where it was purchased.dealer charged 3 hours of troubleshooting labor and only found that the abs cab was in need of replacement.dealer ordered abs cab.dealer could not find cause of the startup/running with no key in ignition.2b)6 days later (dec. 21, 2006) van would not turn off after driving ~300 miles.also, this time all the accessories such as the cabin fans, radio, wipers, and interior lights came on even after the key was removed from the ignition.all accessories except interior lights could be turned off with their respective switches.+battery cable was disconnected to get lights off.van worked fine for the next 3 days.dec. 24, 2006, van would not stop running once on the return trip after key was turned off.after arriving home and van was parked with engine off, all accessories came on, by themselves, after a period of time.+battery cable was once again disconnected to prevent further malfunction.3b)another appointment was made for jan. 4, 2007 to replace the ignition and/or the key cylinder switch at the dealer.

Graphic illumination bulbs on the 3 zone climate controls for the 2002 dodge grand caravan burn out and are not replaceable.the entire climate control must be replaced at a cost of over $500 because a $0.50 bulb has burned out.loss of illumination on the climate controls results in not being able to determine the control settings.safety hazard since the instruments are no longer illuminated.not too many consumers are going to pay $500 to resolve a burned out instrument lamp.

I have had many electrical problems over the years.my driver's side airbag light is on.i've had problems in the engine and dashboard areas.i've had problems with the passenger side power window.now, since earlier this year, my front air fans and my rear brake lights do not work.note, my rear running lights work, but the brake lights do not work.i believe the problem is the circuit board.i was looking on-line at various search sites and see numerous issues with the circuit boards going bad and causing many issues.with the brake lights going out (i had no idea that they were not working until someone came up to me and told me so), i could be rear-ended at anytime because other vehicles do not know i am braking.i saw many other safety issues that are affecting other dodge caravan & chrysler town&country vehicles that sound like the circuit board.this is a safety issue.we have noticed this for many years and have been told there are other issues.but the other issues, when resolved, never take care of this main issue.on your request for incident date, i am just going to put down the most recent issue date.

All of a sudden the internal instrument panel and console lights went out in my 2002 grand caravan.my mechanic said the body control module is faulty/has a short and it's an approx $800 repair.i have 128,000 miles on the caravan.i also have a 1996 caravan and this has never happened to that van, even thought it's 12 years old.

Where to start, since the dau we bought it in 7/02, we have brought it in 3 times for faulty windshield wiper problems, we lost powering steering (thank god my wife was not driving it with our two small kids), the rear hatch didn't work and it took 3 months for us to finally get it fixed, we have to replace the brake pads at 14,000 miles, and just recently the alternator had to be replaced.now there is a problem with the brakes they make a horrible sound when pressing on them and is going into the dealer again next week.my wiper refuses to drive the caravan that we bought so it would be easier for her with the kids, but she feels that something else is gonna go wrong.we wrote a letter to chrysler and they responded "we're sorry for the inconvenience".(the date of the first incident listed below may not be exactly when it happened, the paperwork is at home.) *la

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that smoke appeared from the side mirror power switch. The panel melted although no flames were present.in addition, the horn failed to activate when depressed. The contact replaced the power switch, but the horn was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified.the approximate failure mileage was 137,700.

Air bag sensor light continued to stay on. As a resulthorn and cruise control become inoperable. A recall for the clock spring was issued. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.*tc

After overfilling the fuel tank gas fume were coming into the vehicle while driving. Vehicle was taken todealer fordiagnoses. Also, ignition switch failed to operate intermittently when starting.

While sitting in the vehicle and idling consumer noticed smoke coming from the front end.consumer left the vehicle, and saw that fire was rising up from beneath of vehicle.the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. Vehicle was totaled. Dealer examined the vehicle, and could not determine the cause of the fire.

While driving i smelled smoke.i couldn't see where it was coming from so i continued driving.then i saw smoke coming out from behind the panel on the passenger side rear sliding door.i then pulled over to see what was going on.i couldn't see a fire from inside and the door didn't feel hot.i walked around to the outside and touched the door, which was hot.i then noticed burn marks through the paint.i went back into the van and pulled part of the panel away and saw flames inside the door.i then took a fire extinguisher and put out the fire.i called 911 and asked for the fire department.

On 9/3/04 there was an electrical fire in the left sliding door of our 2002 dodge grand caravan ex (purchased new).previously brought it to an authorized dodge dealer with complaints of right & left sliding doors not functioning properly.dealer released the car stating there is nothing wrong with it.my 2 kids and i were in the cars minutes prior to it catching fire. Major damage done but dodge wants to repair the electrical damage and for us to continue to drive it hoping that the right sliding door does not catch fire. Cannot be sure that the smoke smell will ever come out of the upholstery or that mold will not build up in the seat cushions from the fire dept putting out fire.do not feel safe in the vehicle!!!

I experienced ramdom failure of the headlights on my dodge caravan.i brought this to the attention of my dealer and they said they "could not duplicate concern".i was told the cause was probably the "front control module" but they would not replace it because they were not positive it was the cause, and because of the cost of the part.after this occured the second time i took it to my own mechanic and hereplaced the module at a cost of $307.05.the replacement occured 9/15/2004.i have had no similat problems since the module was replaced. I had purchaced the extended warrenty with the vehicle but i was told by the dealer the module was not covered by the policy.it covers 7 different named control modules but not this one.i calledchrysler and registered a complaint-#12641005.

The instrument panel lights did not turn on with the headlights.*sc

The dashboard instrument cluster, which includes the speedometer, tachometer, and odometer, keeps shorting out.the turn signals are on the same circuit.this has happened three times in the last month.initially the shop replaced the fuse.the second time, they stated there was a short in the circuit that had to be repaired.a neighbor of ours who owns a town & country has had the same problem.it is hazardous to drive the vehicle without the turn signals, not to mention not knowing the speed of the vehicle.

Dt*: the contact stated while parked at a stop light white smoke came from the heating vent on the passenger side of the dash board.the smoke began to turn black and flames erupted from the dashboard vent.the contact pulled off of the road. The fire department extinguished the fire however, they could not determine the source of the fire.prior to the incident, the contact smelled something similar to plastic burning.the contact reported the same smell intermittently three to four months prior to this incident.the dealership determined there was a hose leaking fluid and it was replaced.the contact does not recall the type of fluid leaking or the type of hose that was replaced.the smell continued however, the dealership could not determine the source of the smell.updated on 05/30/2006.

I was driving when my car just turn off,i turn back on whit no problem and time later passes again, sometimes turn off 2 or 3 times a day and sometimes work fine, the computer shows no code, and i change many thing trying to fix it, spark plugs, relay fuel pump, spark plug wires, relay starter.i went whit the mechanic for check the fuel pump and is good.don't know what else to do.i hope you can help me.thanks.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, there was a complete loss of power steering assist, followed by the illumination of the battery warning indicator. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The failure occurred whenever the contact drove over a puddle of water during rainy weather. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who advised that the serpentine belt detached from the alternator and the cooling system fan. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. While driving in rain or snow between approximately 20 to 70 miles per hour, the serpentine belt slipped off the pulley and the power steering ability was reduced. Also, the battery indicator illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was caused by the design of the vehicle, and there was no remedy. The failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

Leaking fuel rail cap 2002 dodge caravan is leaking gas all over the spark plugs engine and electrical parts when 1st turning the vehicle on in the morning.

Clogged catalytic converter causing power loss while driving on highway

My van,2002 dodge grand caravan, randomly stalls while driving down the street/road whether on straight road or a curve, or with a full tank of gas or less, gas seems to be irrelevant . After stalling will not restart. I have replaced all mini-fuses,battery, starter, and still will stall. Sometimes while driving above 25 mph while still moving it will restart on its own.this is a huge safety issue.

I entered cooling system problems, abs braking, steering, window motors and entire rusting under carraige.

*sc

I have had numerous problems with the veh since it was purchased new , may 2002.veh has a rough idle while stopped in gear, dealer states they are waiting for a computer update. To date still have problem.problem with starter , same grinds on first start in extreme cold weather.dealer replaced 2 starters and flywheel.problem with trans, hard bang felt when slowing up between 8-5 mph.said problem is intermittent and dealer has not driven veh long enough to get condition.dealer has replaced numerous parts of trans, problem still exist. Car has been in several times for power steering leak and vibration.numerous parts replaced.i have contacted chrysler and spoke with the district manager and advised him of all the complaints with veh and problems that still exist.i told him i did not want the veh .he advised me he would look into my file and call me back.its been two months and i have left him several messages and he still has not returned my calls.his name is [xxx]. As my wife was driving on the interstate at 70 mph she heard a loud noise then the vehicle came to a stop. Once i arrived at the vehicle, i noticed a trail of oil leading to the vehicle. I looked under to find tho push rod hanging through the oil pan. The vehicle was towed to the shop with the motor replaced. When the test drive was taking place, the mechanic discovered that the computor chip caused the transmission to drop down to low gear in which ran the rpm's into the danger zone which resulted in the engine coming apart. The vehicle had only 59,000 miles on it. I made attempt after attempt to speak with someone at chrysler and could not even get a return call from anyone other than a dealer. I just received a recall notice about a moister leak from the air conditioner which may lead into a short that could cause a fire. I called the number given on the recall and asked if i could speak to someone at chrysler, and was told that they do not have any phone #'s. That's when i decided to contact this department. I truly believe that this issue is certainly a risk and should be investigated, as well as expenses reimburesed by chrysler.

While driving consumer dodge grand caravan will go into neutral.the consumer stated on one occasion, the vehicle was in drive, but it would not move.the consumer had to move the lever a few times in order for the vehicle to move. The consumer was told the problem she was experiencing could not be duplicated in the 2 weeks the mechanic had the vehicle.the steering wheel pulled to one side and vibrated when slowing down.the rotors needed to be resurfaced.the emission hose and gas cap were replaced. The passenger side door has to be opened and closed several times before staying shut. The oil pan gasket and axle seal were leaking.

Etc.

While driving at 5-10 mphvehicle stalled and then completely locked up coming off of a ramp. Upon starting again it started to jerk. Took vehicle to the dealer. The problem still exists.

Recall replacement of gas tank that might has something to do with my engine lightturning on now i found out that the problem is coming through the emission control system purge (gross) leak engine code p0455 given to me by the car itself, my car will be taken to dealer on this condition monday june 16,2003 and i think this has something to do with the repair of the recall.my main complaint is that i've bin at this dealer three times with repair done or check done on problems to my vehicle and three times i get no proof that the vehicle was service there even when the recall was done all i have is the tag # which is only for there purpose.i do ask for it even though i think i shouldn't and they state that job is done and i don't need anything cause it was done. *nlm

The air conditioner functions intermittently.all of the usual items were checked, i.e. Compressor and lines checked for leaks, system charged.the dealer has told me that the part that they need to fix the problem is, in his words, "on double secret back order".he said that the star master techs at daimler-chrysler will not release the part yet because they are not done checking it out to see if there are any other issues with them.he also stated that he has a stack of work orders with a similar problem, all waiting for the a/c control module (which is the part needed apparently).normally it would not be a problem, but my wife drives the grand caravan and normally has our sons in the car and the temperatures lately have been very high causing undue stress on her and the children.

Consumer replaced radio due to moisture damage which caused the radio to burnout.the consumer received a recall notice (04v531000) after the radio was replaced and sent the original bill to the manufacturer for reimbursement.the consumer claim was denied because the radio was replaced with an aftermarket one.

I own a 2002 dodge grand caravan (we have had the van for 3 months, the previous owner was an 81 year old lady). Out of nowhere my radio started having a major malfunction. When i turn on the vehicle the radio is at full blast if you touch the volume knob it goes off but when you touch it again i goes back to full blast. There is nothing abnormal that i have done other than use it like every one else. I also discovered a mysterious puddle on the passenger floor board which when it dried it turned white. The first thing i did was take it to the dodge dealer and told them the problem. The first thing they asked me was if i had a warranty, i said no. They told me that there was nothing they could do. They said " we don't have anyone here that can look at it and if we did we couldn't fix it anyway". They said " all we can do is sell you a new radio for $300". So then i called daimler chrysler, and they said the same thing as the dealer. About a month later i was given a recall notice from autosite .com, it said there was a recall for my year and model van. (campaign # 04v531000)i called daimler chrysler back and asked about recall and reminded them of my problem. They said " your specific vehicle was not included it that recall and there is still nothing that we will do". I have three children one of which is a four month old baby that ride in this van. I would hate to thinkof the possible hearing damage that could cause. I have many friends who are looking at purchasing a new van and we have told them not to buy a dodge because of the customer service that we have received and the lack of help that dodge has given to us. We also just had to replace our transmission that cost $1500 with only 60,000 miles.we would like to know if there is anything that you can do to help us.

My van is a 2002 and it has the drivers side light out while the passenger stays on. When i pull the high beam switch the passenger side goes out and the drivers side comes on. My bad light changes sides as i click the dimmer switch. I have replaced the dimmer switch, and both headlights and that did not fix the issue. If you hold in the dimmer switch when the lights are on bright, both the bright light on one side and the dim light on the other side are on.

Headlight malfunction.drl one on one off, headlights opposite on/off, hi-beams opposite on/off.replaced fcm, worked ok for a few weeks, but is malfunctioning again.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. The contact stated the driver side low-beam and passenger side high beam headlights would not operate. The contact replaced the headlight bulbs and the failure continued to occur. The vehiclewas taken to the dealer where the multi-function switch was replaced. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 08e039000 (exterior lighting: headlights). The contact was in the process of notifying the dealer to verify whether the vin was included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that the headlights malfunctioned while driving 25 mph and only the passenger side headlight was operable. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or mechanic for diagnostic testing.the failure mileage was 89,500.

I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan that has had headlight troubles for nearly two years. When you turn the van on, only the right headlight turns on. When you turn the headlights on, only the left headlight turns on. When you turn the brights on, only the right headlight turns on. Always, only one light at a time. We have replaced about three different switchesand we still can't seem to find the trouble.(no, it isn't the bulb).this has gone on long enough. Even the dealer can't seem to find the trouble and it needs to be recalled for this problem.

When the low beams are on one headlight is out and when the high beams are on the other headlight is out. I had it fixed twice by two different shops until i found that the problem is the front computer module.the fix is a new front module which is around $550.00 (part is 450/labor 100).my complaint is that it is a safety issue and very expensive to fix, also it took quite some time to figure out exactly what needed to be fixed, during that time i didn't feel safe in the vehicle driving at night.i believe there should be a recall on this module as i have seen many other people who have had the same problem.

Driving home at night when the headlights flickered on and off. Turned on the high beams in order to get home. Dealer replaced the front control module.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the headlights would intermittently turn off at night and turn back on after 1-2 seconds.occasionally, the headlights would not illuminate again for several minutes.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.no repairs were made. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 40,000. Updated 03-0408

I have had 2 brief headlight failures (10 seconds or so) and my headlights occasionally flicker or dim. My lightswitch gets very hot when the lights are on for more than 30 minutes.

The headlights malfunctioned twice in the past month while on the road at night. Taken to dealer for testing, and results showed that the cause was undetermined.

The headlights turned on and off intermittently, making it difficult to see the road when it iwas dark. Consumer informed the dealer, but the cause was undetermined.

Headlights on 2002 dodge grand caravan flicker.this happens frequently.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the headlights worked intermittently.on two occasions, the headlights went out suddenly without warning.the dealership was informed.updated 09/13/06.

Since the purchase of this vehicle, i have experienced head light-interior flickering to which the dealer cannot solve.

The tail light cover on the passenger rear blew off as i traveled on a highway.the tail light cover had come loose.when examined the glue appeared to have failed.i thought it was strong enough to hold.i was wrong.now i have a tail light without a lens so the lights are white when i put on my brakes or turn signal.

I purchased our 2002 dodge grand caravan on 4-1-2002 and it was in the shop the first time for the power steering cooler and hoses leaking on 4-25-2002.the dealer fixed it and it was leaking again on 4-29-2002, then 4-30-2002, then 5-2-2002.the weather got warmer so it didn't seem to leak.then it started getting cold again in the fall and it started leaking again.seems when the temp drops below 21 degrees, it leaks.chrysler sent a factory engineer to the dealership to investigate why it couldn't be fixed.he stated that chrysler is having extreme difficulty with the power steering coolers and hoses leaking in the northern part of the country (colder climates.)he also stated that it can not be fixed.this is a dangerous problem that needs to be addressed because if i lose control of my vehicle because of loss of fluid in the power steering system, i could end up in on-coming traffic and cause a horrific accident posssibly resulting in death.after months of them trying to fix it, i finally said enough.i called the factory after trying to talk to the general manager of the dealership, who would not cooperate, and ask them to buy it back.i was offered a new one but refused because they said they are having trouble with all of them.and i don't want to move south to solve this problem.i think there needs to be a recall on these vehicles because of the safety issue.currently, we are in the buy back mode and hope that someone else doesn't end up with this van because the state of wyoming refuses to brand the title with a remark that it has been a lemon buy back.the transmission cooler lines on the radiator also leaked due to cold weather.the tail lights were falling off and a part was missing from assembly at the factory.

The turn signals will intermittently work in reverse. For example, if i engage the left turn signal, the right dash light will flash along with the right turn signal lights. This reverse process also happens sometimes when i engage the right turn signal. *nlm

2002 dodge grand caravan sometimes the fuel gauge will go to empty suddenly, and a little later, it will go back to the actual reading. It happens sporadically, but i did not know that it could be reported.thank you

On july 4, 2002 my 2002 dodge grand caravan was involved in a lowspeed rollover in which the vehicle came to rest upside down. In theminutes following the rollover the vehicle caught on fire and burned completely up. My wife and 3 children were traveling in the vehicle when this happened and all 3 by the grace of god were pulledto safety by persons near the accident. Two months later i received a recall on the van from the dealer indicating there was a recall on the fuel system to replace a part that may cause a fire in the event of a rollover.

I have a dodge grand caravan 2003.it did ok for about six months after that it has been one problem after another.when i'm waiting to go on a road if i take my foot off brake it starts rolling backward fast. You have to hold the brake while pushing the gas to keep it from rolling back. It's steering has given me trouble, the gas gauge has caused problems, etc.... I have contacted dodge several times, but have gotten no help from them.

Gas pump malfunctioned, causing overfill of gas tank. Gas tank system allows for capture and evaporation of overfill. Vents for air flow in vehicle allow gasoline fumes/vapors into passenger compartment of vehicle. This creates a problem if you have passengers or need to use the vehicle. All occupants are forced to sit inside of an enclosed vehicle with gasoline vapors. Brought concern to dealer and dealer said vehicle was operating within design parameters and advised not to overfill tank. Overfill was not intentional and dealer advise does not correct problem. Dealer stated that the evaporative system was mandated by federal government regulations. Dealer also stated that all new cars have similar systems and if they are overfilled fumes/vapors will be present in passenger compartment as well.i believe that this is a design/manufacture problem that needs to be corrected. Dealer will not work with me but only states that the system is working the way it was designed. I am not comfortable putting my family/children into the vehicle and driving it while it is full of gasoline fumes/vapors. As a career firefighter i recognize that gasoline is most volitile in the vapor state. I have brought this information to the manufacturers/dealers attention and have been told that there is nothing that they can/will do.

This is my second 2002 grand caravan...the first was purchased on 10/23/2001 and on the way home we smelled strong fuel vapors, the check engine light came on, and it started running rough. Dealer could not determine problem and we were given a replacement 2002 grand caravan on 10/24/2001....i later found out that this replacement vehicle was built on the same day and same production line as the previous 2002 i had...and only one other vehicle was produced between them. The vehicle i have just started to have the same problem as the previous one (strong vapors, check engine lite), and was diagnosed as having gas tank/pressure relief valve problems. Since the vehicles were built on the same line/day, and since it is a gas tank/vapor problem, am concerned about the safety of all grand caravans built on that line on/around that day.

The top of the gas tank came off and witin 40 miles i lost 10 galons of gas.

After overfilling the fuel tank gas fume were coming into the vehicle while driving. Vehicle was taken todealer fordiagnoses. Also, ignition switch failed to operate intermittently when starting.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that the vehicle's fuel tank control valve weld joint has been leaking for three weeks.the mechanic found the leak after the vehicle was taken in because the check engine light kept illuminating.the contact stated that there is a safety recall that does not apply to his vin.the current and failure mileages were unavailable.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact noticed that the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic detected a leak in the fuel system. The mechanic stated the fuel tank was collapsing and expanding. The mechanic referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated there was a manufacturer's recall in effect, but the contact's vin was not included in the recall. The contact also noticed the speedometer was not providing a reading. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

We have been smelling the smell of gas for awhile, today it got alot stronger,we had just put gas in the van and we thought may some had gotten spilled on the outside. When we stopped to wash it i looked underneath and saw a huge puddle of gas forming on the ground. Come to find out there had been a recall in october 2002. Looked on my carfax and it doesnt list that as being repaired. We could have been killed.

Leaking fuel rail cap 2002 dodge caravan is leaking gas all over the spark plugs engine and electrical parts when 1st turning the vehicle on in the morning.

Strong fuel smell entering the cabin at low speed or idle coming from vehicle when running.

2002 dodge grand caravan sliding door locks and can't be opened manually or remotely. Passengers must exit opposite side of car. Started 3 days ago, haven't had time to bring to dealer yet. This complaint is common on site:http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock.

The power door locks on my 2002 dodge grand caravan have stopped functioning. There were no events leading to this failure, just working one day and not the next. This seems to me to be a safety hazard and i cannot believe that something hasn't been done to correct it. If the vehicle were to catch fire how would anyone be able to get out.

I own a 2002 dodge grand caravan. The drivers side sliding door will not close. This has been happening for some time but after fooling around with it manually and with remote, i could somehow get the problem fixed. Not this time. I went online and found that many others have same problem. I feel this is a recall issue not just a repair. It is a defect by dodge/chrysler. My car is totally undriveable because the back door will not engage.

Problems with seat tensioner and automatics doors malfunctioning.*mr air bag light remains on, as a result consumer has had the seatbelt tensioner and airbag module replaced. Automatic doors have also malfunctioned and has been reprogramed.

The door latch on the2002 dodge grand caravan required replacement twice in a 15 month span.thiswas for the power sliding door.it was replaced on 12/29/2005, and required replacement again on 4/5/07.i have been fortunate the failure has not occurred while the vehicle has been in motion, but am concerned about the frequent failures.the doorwas not subjected to abuse, and has not been modified in any way from factory specs.

We own a 2002 dodge caravan with a passenger side power sliding door.in cold temperatures (below 40 degrees) the motor fails to operate the door and the door must be opened and closedmanually.due to its weight and design the door is quite difficult for a school aged child to open.in an attempt to get leverage, our son has had his head between the door and the frame as he attempts to slide the door closed.thankfully no accidents have yet resulted.however, i do see a potentially hazardous situation should a child's head get caught as they pull the door shut.there is a sensor that prevents the door from closing all the way when the power feature is used to close the door but i don't think it operates when the door must be shut manually.

I purchased a new dodge grand caravan on 4/17/02.on 5/8/02 the vehicle was in the dealership for malfunctioning automatic rear liftgate and right side door.the dealership could not duplicate the problem and did not do anything.

On 4/17/02 i purchased a new 2002 dodge grand caravan.this vehicle had been in the shop several times since the time of purchase.this time it was the airbag light again.according to the dealership, airbag diagnostic tests were performed and the left front seatbelt tensioner circuit was reprogrammed.i informed the mechanic that the second row seatbelts would not "lock" when you jerked on them, but according to the mechanic they were "operating normally at this time".i also had to have them look at the rear liftgate again.per the dealership, the codes were reprogrammed again.

I purchased a new dodge grand caravan on 4/17/02.on 11/20/02 (for the second time since purchase - first time was 5/08/02), i had to take the van to the dealership because the automatic tailgate and sliding doors were malfunctioning.according to the dealership, it was reprogrammed plm as per bull.

Chrysler has left me no choice but to file the lemon law.as of today i am waiting for a hearing date too be set. I parked my mini van @ 3:00 pm staurday-22-2015on 115 street before myrtle av richmond hill queens new york, sunday 6:00 am i came home and decided to check on my car if somebody had broken-in/steel my 3 peace tool box but my car haddissapeared, i saw broken driver side glass on the gound and call cops right away.

The vehicle has been dropping out of gear from drive to neutral intermittantly since i bought it.this happens during driving and turning, but it is intermittant so chrysler and dodge service have not been able to duplicate, therefore will not fix the problem.the first times i called my own dealership in daphne, i was told they don't have a transmission person & to take it to mobile or pensacola to be repaired.i took it to mobile finally in jan. '03, but they could not duplicate problem.they kept the vehicle for 2 weeks & left me with nothing to drive.they would not even give me a loaner.next i approached my own dealership in daphne again & requested a meeting with the district manager.they insisted on checking it themselves before they would talk to the district manager, even though they didn't have a transmission person.they checked it and found nothing again, and faxed the information to star center.i still have not had the problem fixed nor heard a word from the district manager.all the service manager does it argue and smile with my complaints.both service managers from mobiel and daphne state that chrysler will not replace and cannot repair the transmission.

While driving in cruise control mode at 55 mph automatic transmission disengaged and went into neutral mode.dealership indicated thattransmission went into sleep mode, but they were unable to correct the problem because they couldn't duplicate it.

Dt:contact states transmission was slipping , the service dealer informed him that the solenoid pump needed to be replaced.ontact had this component replaced.

Problems with vehicle's transmission on 1998 grand voyager.*mrthe vehicle only had 50045 mile on it whe the transmission failed.the consumer believes she should be clear of any financial responsibility and reimburse 100% since the vehicle failed after only 2 months of ownership.

In 2002 i purchased a new dodge grand caravan sport. The vehicle has been in my possession just under a year and has approx. 20,800 miles on it.this vehicle has already had 2 major repairs to systems that affect the safety of the vehicle. 1. Power steering hose recall2. Transmission pump failure.in addition to these repairs there was also an extended warranty placed on the a/c unit because it is expected to fail, replacement of the stereo and repeated repairs to the front carpet pulling out at the corners. The carpet has been "fixed" however now the emergency brake assembly is protruding on the driver floorboard.

Our 2002 dodge caravan with 23000 miles does not move when shifted into reverse. The transmission slips and grabs. We have taken it back to the dealership 2 times for the same problem and they can not duplicate the problem therefore they have done nothing to correct this problem.

While driving 55 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Consumer was able to maintaincontrol of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.

My dodge caravan worked well until i received recall notice to replace power steering hoses.when that repair was complete, the throttle control sensor would not work properly.as soon as the car was returned from that repair, the fuel guage malfunctioned, and shortly thereafter the transmission broke (at 46000 miles).either a very bad vehicle or dealership is causing damage during repair work.

While driving vans transmission will jump into neutral.

Transmission diferential broke if broke during driving may have caused vehicle to lock up and cause accident.

At 7,600 miles in november of 2002 the automatic transmission failed.dealer replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one.since then the speedometer reads incorrectly.at lower speeds it reads under by 4 to 7 mph, at higher speeds -- 60 mph it reads 15 - 20 mph under.i discovered this when on a road trip i was stopped for going 85 when i thought i was going 68 in a 70mph zone.i thought the police officer was crazy -- even protested and had him verify the callibration of his radar.his reading was confirmed when i passed a roadside speed indicator, and was stopped again. Speedometer was reprogrammed at a dealer in michigan after which it read 4 mph under for the most part.had it looked at by dealer in florida again in april 2004, they replaced a sensor.since, it again reads 4 to 10 miles under at lower speeds -- e.g. When i think i'm going 35, i'm really going 42 or 43, at 65 mph actual speed is 76mph.dealer says its "the way you're driving" -- a poor excuse for shifting the blame and not making the repair correctly the first time when the transmission was replaced. This is a real hazard and safety issue not just for myself but for other family members who drive the van and people on the road.

*sc

At 62,000 miles the car would not shift into gear.after moving the gear shift all the way up and down it engaged, but began downshifting very hard from 4th to 3rd.dealer performed maintenance and reprogrammed the module which resolved the problem for about 8,000 miles.again, same thing happened this time dealer just reprogrammed module.the problem was resolved for about 9,000 miles and again the transmission has begun down shifting very hard.when decelerating the car clunks and catches.

2002 dodge grand caravanvehicle does not move when shifted into reverse. Intermittent problem. Dealer unable to duplicate problem and refused to replace transmission unless problem could be duplicated. Safety hazard: driver may inadvertently exit vehicle with gear selector in reverse position. Vehicle may suddenly move and cause injury or death.eventually, transmission engages in reverse, taking between 15 seconds to one minute. Cycling gear selector and changing engine rpm seem to have no influence on when transmission may engage in reverse. *nlm

1998 grand voyager was totaled in an accident. *mr the consumer then purchased a 2002 grand caravan, however at 50,0445 the transmission failed on the vehicle.even after the consumer received a brand new transmission, the vehicle still not perform correctly, it took the technicians one week to find out from chrysler how to set the computer/ transmission.

Pulled vehicle into parking spot, tried shifting into reverse and although heard a clunk, vehicle not in gear. Could not get it to go into a forward or reverse gear. On saturday 12/29/07 as i was returning from my mother's home with my 2 young children our transmission failed.i was driving approximately 60 mph on the highway when, with absolutely no previous warnings or problems or even an indicator light, my 2002 dodge grand caravan sport with 128k miles made a sudden loud thump noise (according to my 6 year old son in the back seat it sounded like we ran over something) and the vehicle proceeded to down shift dramatically.i was able to pull onto the shoulder but was unable to continue.i had to have my wife drive, with our youngest child, back to rescue us from the side of the road.the car had to be towed as it would not move after that.we are still waiting for repairs.i don't think this should have happened and certainly not without any warning or problems previously.

Dt: while driving on a highway the back end of the transmission mounting dropped. Causing vehicle to become inoperable. Itwas the first time this occurred on the vehicle.the consumer was en route to an event when the parking lot attendant thought the transmission was out because the way the car waspulling ina jerking motion.upon inspection there was no transmission fluid at that time.later that evening there was a large amount of fluidthat turned out to be the transmission fluid.aaa cameand towed vehicle home.the vehicle has not been to a dealership but was later towed vehicleto a service repair shop.no repairs have been made as of yet.no explanation as to why thishappened.consumercontacted customer service at chrysler, who inquiredif sheneeded financial assistanceto repair the transmission mount.after doingsome research andthen being on hold they could not offer any solutionfor this problem.

While vacationing in atlanta, ga. We were backing out of a parking space and experienced a loud thud.we had difficulty in getting our car to go forward or reverse.we drove immediately to a dodge dealership about 1 1/2 miles down the road.they confirmed that it was our transmission.no prior problems had been experienced with the transmission.we had 64,000 miles on the van, and all work had been kept up on the vehicle.the warranty had expired.the dealership estimated that the work would cost between $2900.00 to repair the transmission, or $3500.00 to replace it.they would determine what needed to be done when they pulled the transmission.we decided to go down the street another 2 miles to an aamco transmission shop.they estimated the repair to be $1400.00 to repair the transmission, or $2900.00 to replace the transmission.we decided to have them do the job since the estimates were considerably different.four days later the job was done, and the final cost was $3000.00!they put a rebuilt transmission in.we have approached dodge for a reimbursement.they will not give us a penny towards the job.they claim that had we stayed at the dodge dealership, a partial consideration could have been worked out.since we do not have the old transmission, they say that we cannot prove why the transmission failed.this van only had 64,000 miles on it......this should have never happened.and why did the dealership that we took it to, not tell us that something might have been able to be worked out with dodge.

Driving on the freeway going 65 mph the van down shifted to a lower gear with a jolt. Following the owners manual i pulled to the side of the road and put the mini van in park.restarted the van put it in gear and started to move and heard and felt the transmission grinding.called a tow truck.

This cost me $107 (would have cost more if i wasn't given an extended warranty for fire i had).1/19/04 van was giving a burn smell from under the hood along with smoke.they found a/c compressor clutch shorting in coil.a/c compressor replaced & recharged.2/5/04 vehicle taken for the last time for loud popping sound under the dr's ft area when turning left.all suspension parts tightened.next visit is req'd by the fl lemon law to give them 1 more chance before paperwork can be filed.done on 3/8/04 for steering noise when stopped & just turning wheel.replaced pt that was replaced before:power steering pump resevoir.paperwork filed for florida lemon law on 4/5/04,unsave vehicle & fear for safety of family.

The check engine light came on and we had the vehicle checked. We were told that it was dealing with the transmission and to go to a transmission specialist. A day later, the tires were locked and the van did not respond to any gear. Had the van towed to transmission shop. They said that the torque converter failed and in turn the oil pump was not circulating oil to the transmission. The transmission was completely welded together. We had to purchase an entire new transmission costing over $2,600.00. The vehicle had only 48,000 miles. I read online where other individuals had same problem at 37,000 miles and 40,000 miles.

When the brakes are applied there wasa noise coming throughout the driver and passenger sides. Dealershipinspected several times, replaced disc, pads, and sensors, at least three times.however, the problem still recurred.also, automatic transmission problem.

Transmission would delay up-shift at approx. 25 and 40 mph. Acceleration is delayed for several seconds. Neither speed nor rpms will increase by pressing pedal. This creates a hazard while trying to merge in traffic. Vehicle had 42,000 miles. Transmission and torque converter replaced, new solenoid block and input/output sensors.

2002 dodge grand caravan with 69,500 miles. Transmission made a jerking and did not want to seem to shift. Took to dodge dealer and they could not duplicate. They allowed service man to drive home and drove approx. 100 miles. They concluded no problem they could find. 3 months later while driving same symptoms and then loud clunk but this time was complete transmission failure. Called dodge 800# to obtain warranty info. Dodge informed me it was in warranty. Called local dealer and set up appointment to fix. They called back and said dodge would not warranty it. I then called dodge 800# back and talk to them. I asked why less than 2hr ago my van had apower train warranty on it and now it does not have a warranty. They informed me the van did not have a warranty and that i had never called them (they record and computer shows if you call, but dodge claims they have no record i called). I informed them i called them less than 2hr before and they replied i was mistaken. My phone records indicate different than theirs. Any way they will not take any responsibility for this transmission that failed. Took to local trans shop and found he had two other caravans with complete transmission failure waiting in line to be fixed. The shop owner said he has fixed many many of these type transmissions. He said in his opinion that these were very poor performing transmissions and that their track record of failures should be looked at.

Power steering pump, rack and pinion seals, transmission soleniod pack.on dec 16, 2003 i took van in for brake problems. The dealer did a recall job on the power steering cooler hose. 1 week later the power steering started growling. I checked fluid and noticed the pump was dry. Apparently the dealer didn't top off the fluid. I filled resevior and drove but it still had a little growl in the power steering. I took the vehicle back into the same dealer on nov 19, 2004 for an oil change and another power steering hose recall and told them the story and to check out pump. They said the pump checked out ok but there was a little noise when making sharp turns but they weren't going to replace the pump. I told them i would bring back in colder weather because it was stiff to steer. I returned on 2/22/2005 because the pump was really growling and it was hard to steer. The dealer checked the pump said it was low but they did notice leaks from the rack n pinion and transmission soleniod pack. I asked them if this was due to the power steering pump and they said no. I explaind i purchsed the vehicle from them exactly 2 years ago and it was less than a year old and only had 20k on it. They said they can't warranty it but would fix it for $1600. I declined at this point.

Dt: premature failure of the transmission at 60,458 miles. The transmission failedwhile moving in reverse in a parking lot. There were no signs of any problems with the vehicle before this happened. The vehicle was in garageand kept in great shape. Service records were kept up to date. Consumer has been in contact with the dealer and the manufacturer, and no one will call the consumer back. Consumertalked to a service representative from chrysler.consumer was told he could not talk to the manager at chrysler manufacturing company at headquaters. And the service manager will not call back either.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a recall repair.after the repair was made, the mechanic stated that the pcm electrical board was failing, which could cause the vehicle to fail at anytime.the contact called dodge customer service and was given the run around.three weeks after the repair was performed, while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and was towed to his residence.he jumped the battery and was able to restart the vehicle.he was informed that the only way to correct the failure would be to replace the entire electrical board.the vehicle is currently still at his home.the recall number was unknown.the current mileage was 98,200 and failure mileage was 97,000.

1.pop rivets for mounting brackets holding transmission oil cooler broke..loose oil cooler rubbed holes in the radiator coils causing leaks of cooling fluid.3.removed oil cooler and re-riveted brackets to cooler and replaced damaged radiator.old radiator is available.oil cooler revamped on vehicle.

Vehicle will not go into gear smoothly.prior to this incident consumer was able to make a smooth transitions after a couple of attempts. Vehicle had to be towed dealer, where they discovered the rear brakesrusted .

Transmission diferential broke if broke during driving may have caused vehicle to lock up and cause accident.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at highway speed the manual transmission jerked the vehicle as if it were stalling.afterwards, the check engine light illuminated.the contact pulled over, but the vehicle would not drive any further.it was towed to a dealer.the dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the manual transmission failed, although regularly serviced, due to an unknown internal problem, not improper maintenance.the manual transmission was replaced.updated 2/28/2006 -

Problems with seat tensioner and automatics doors malfunctioning.*mr air bag light remains on, as a result consumer has had the seatbelt tensioner and airbag module replaced. Automatic doors have also malfunctioned and has been reprogramed.

Child was in seat belt playing with a toy and accidently hit seatbelt buckle, causing it to come unlatched.dealer contacted.please provide further details. Please add vin.

I purchased a new 2002 dodge grand caravan on 4/17/02.on 2/21/03 the van was in the dealership with the airbag light on again!this was the third time since i purchased the vehicle that the airbag light had come on.this time the dealer said the left front seatbelt tensioner shorted and had to be replaced.

Vehicle has gen3 seatbelts in the middle and back.this seatbelt is very easy to accidentally become unlatched, and does not pass the 30mm ball bearing test (i tried this at home).i have three children and am concerned about accidental release of these belts by carseats moving around, elbows, etc.i would like to have these belts replaced by the newer gen4 design.

We want nhtsa to do something about the gen 3 seat belts in our car.hopefully, we will not experience a failure of this part, as others have, since we depend on these belts to protect our children.please look into the abcnews report about these defective belts, asap, and do what it takes to keep our children safe.

The right rear seat belt anchor nut came off the stud.it is appearent that the nut was improperly installed and vibrated off during travel.the problem was detected when my daughter tried to fasten the safety belt after a stop for lunch.

Consumer states that all 5 rear seat belt assemblies unlatch easily.the driver and passenger seat belts are unaffected.the consumer performed that steel ball test seen on television.ball was rolled over buckle release buttons and they came undone easily. Ts

We've experienced problems with the middle row integrated child safety seats.several times, the tensioner on the seat would not work, and i had to pop the end of the seat back cover off to access the mechanism to free what the belt was caught on. I didn't completely remove the cover so i could see exactly what was happening.also, sometimes the buckle will not secure the belt plate.it will secure after several attempts, and we've recently noticed that it works better if we latch a particular side first, then the other side (5 point harness).i don't know if the mechanism sticks or if food or something got forced inside.these have both been recurring problems since we purchased the vehicle.

My seven year old daughter was exiting our 2002 dodge grand caravan when her foot slipped through the safety belt strap.the strap was located next to the sliding door of the passenger side of the car.the strap was in it's storage position, but was clearly still in the way of her stepping past the middle passenger seat as she exited from the rear seat of the vehicle.since the strap "looped" around her foot, she then tripped and tumbled out of the sliding door side of the vehicle.i witnessed everything--any taller: she would have struck her head on the door of the car.she actually fell out the sliding door area and scraped her arms pretty good.i was sure she must have broke both arms the way that she fell.but, we were lucky this time.there must be a better way to mount those safety straps to avoid this type of thing.when the passenger in the middle seat is strapped in, it is even worse as each passenger passing to the rear seats must walk over or under the straps as well.in this case, however, she was the only passenger and the "resting" strap still caught her leg as she exited the vehicle.clearly not safe in my opinion.just thought i'd pass this along.

I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan with unsafe seat belts in the rear.i want daimler-chrysler to replace them at their expense asap!

The middle row seat belt and all the third row seat belts would come undone while driving or not driving. The release button stick too high up, any pressure causes the button to release the claps. The dealer was notified.

I am concerned as to the safety of the gen3 seatbelts in my dodge grand caravan. I believe they should be replaced as unsafe but am forced to paymy dealer to do it.

This complaint was in regard to the driver'sframe seat breaking on a 2002 dodge caravan while the vehicle was in operation. To me this wasa serious safety issue.a call to chrysler corporationwas unsuccessfully as the company will not cover this loss due to mileage, whichshould not be a factor in the driver's seat coming apart.

Consumer's vehicle was struck from the rear by a school bus anddriver's seat did not hold.the reclining back broke.

The airbag light comes on each time i start the engine and stays on .

We purchased a 2002 grand caravan sport used.when i picked up the van after getting some recall work done at the dealer, i turned on the air condioner and the motor died during rush hour traffic. They had extended the warranty to 70,000 miles because the dryer in those vans is known to fail and lock up the a/c compressor.i believe this is more that a parts issue since the locked compressor kills the motor which kills the power brakes and power steering.during stopping or in an intersection, this could be quite hazardous.all these dryers and possibly compressors should be replaced before someone is in a major accident.

My vehicle has ongoing problems with abnormal brake wear.at 17000 miles the brakes hung up.the front left rotor was completely worn away.new pads and rotors.right front caliper not functioning properly and was replaced.prior to thisi had the oil changed and brakes checked 1500 miles earlier--i had noticed that the brake pedal travel was varying and it was taking longer to stop the car. Mechanic had stated that left front had a little over half of brake surface left.second brake failure at 34500 miles.again, left front hung up.took the car to arrigo dodge and was told i was lying about first incident even though i had receipts. Service rep told me both brakes completely worn away, even though again the problem presented with the left front brake hanging up.was told it was my fault brakes were wearing prematurely.car pulled to right after brake replacement when i called dealer again was told it was my fault dealer refused to do anything about it.brakes began squealing - most noticeably left front again - within 500 miles of replacement.left front brake sticks when starting off, brakes squeal, brake fluid seen leaking from right front, brake pedal already has a lot of play in it, takes an excessive amount of distance to stop even with strong force applied to brakes.i have narrowly missed having several accidents because of this.called dealer, again told it was my fault -- driver habits they call it.in the 25 years i have owned and driven vehicles, i have never had to replace brakes before 38000 miles or had any problems remotely similar to this.p. 245 of owners manual states "if either of the two hydraulic systems lose normal capability ...there will be some loss of overall braking effectiveness.this may be evident by increased pedal travel during application, greater pedal force required to slow or stop..." what will it take for this problem to be correctly addressed -- people dying because of this brake failure?

I entered cooling system problems, abs braking, steering, window motors and entire rusting under carraige.

2002 grand caravan brakes failed.the consumer is seeking monetary compensation for the flawed braking system. The consumer stated he was never notified of the problem and only became aware of the problem after the damage had already occurred. The improperly designed backing plate allowed water and snow to enter the brake drum enclosure and when the temperature dropped to freezing the brake shoes froze to the drum. The situation most likely occurred when the emergency brake was applied.

While driving and brakes are depresed they make a loud noise ,lock up and hestiate to stop. Dealeship contacted.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.while driving between 10-20 mph, the brakes squealed and made a grinding noise when applied.however, the vehicle still stopped normally.a police report was filed.the front brakes were replaced, the front rotors were cut, and the rear drums were cut and adjusted at 9,000, 22,000, 33,000, 45,000, and 61,000 miles.the dealer stated that the failure was caused by the brakes having a lot of weight on the front end.the failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 67,000.the dealer stated power steering noise, vehicle revving on hills. Updated 11/14/07

2002 dodge grand caravan with defective brakes. Consumer states that the front brake pads, rotors, and rear drum brakes have been replaced or fixed 5 times.

I recently purchased a 2002 dodge grand caravan sport 3.3 liter,18,000 miles on odometer when purchased, vehicle wants to pull to right, and brakes pulsate when applied.notified dodge dealership where purchased, (lee dodge, west brook, maine) brought vehicle back for service and was told "they" could not duplicate problem????? i told them i felt vehicle was out of alignment, they supposedly did the alignment, and vehicle still pulls to right! at this point they had a tech. Go with me,the tech explained that he felt it was the crown of the road, i have driven plenty of vehicles over the courseof my life and i am aware of a road crown, but this is completelyunacceptable, something is wrong with this mini van, and all the dealership wants to do is patronize me!!!i have made another call to lee dodge and told them that i will be bringing this back to them and they had better get it right this time! ps and since my previous visit i now have a vibration in my steering wheel upon slow moving turning, they say they will also look into this.....................is any one else experiencing these types of problems??? please help, i just bought this vehicle for my wife and 3 kids, and i sure do want to be certain its a safe vehicle!i have only had this vehicle 10 days!! purchased on 5-28-03 dealer was notified 1 and a half days later of these problems..............

Incident occurred aug 2008. The owners manual and dealer service manager report brakes revert back to standard brakes and vehicle can be driven. This is not so!!! in my following experience, when abs light comes on, vehicle should not be driven. I had front disk pads replaced by an independent mechanic. After 2 days, the abs light came on. Owners manual, confirmed by service manager reports brakes default back to standard brakes. Not true. Brakes were slightly engaged and overheating. I was told it may take up to 5000 miles for new brake pads to"break in" and not to worry. Applying my brakes resulted in pedal going to floor and a grinding noise coming from under the hood. This was later determined to be the master abs module. Dealer inspection resulted in a defective abs signal sensor to the rear left brake. Replacement cured all of the above problems.this vehicle and perhaps all others of this type should not be driven when the abs light comes on.

Traveling at approximately 40 mph brakes were applied and quickly failed. Resulted in accident.noticed fluid leak in the road where brakes were applied.

Consumer states that rear-end felt as if dragging while driving.dealer diagnosed that plate, which covers the brake system, is defective causing water to leak into the system, resulting inrusting.this condition causes complete brake failure.

Coming back to ohio from oklahoma ( vacation ) got to st. Louis and tried to apply the brakes and my foot went to the floor, absolutely no brakes.got the van slowed down and got off interstate 70, it was approximately 9-9:30 at night.spent the night at a motel got up in the morning and tried to put brake fluid in the resevoir, seeing that it was low and hoping that would fix the problem but the fluid was coming out as fast as i could put it in.had to call chrysler hotline and have the van towed into a chrysler dealer.there were no parts to be found so we had to spend the night in a motel and called the dealer the next day (friday).was told parts would not be in until maybe monday and one passenger had a plane leaving sunday to go to las vegas and the other passenger had to be back to work on monday morning.had to find a car to rent to come home, received a call at 12 noon on tuesday july 13th and had to schedule the 2 days off to go back and pick up the van and return the rental.had to take 2 days off work, hotel bills, meal bills, gasoline bills, car rental bills and misc..asked for the part back and was told it was sent back to the factory.

After purchasing vehiclebrake light illuminated, indicating brake failure. Dealer was notified, andmechanic stated there were problems occurring. However, mechanic had no solution for problem until investigation through manufacturer had been closed.

I purchased a new 2002 dodge grand caravan on 10/6/01.within a week i experienced a sudden and swift drop in brake pressure when stopped at a stop sign or traffic light.the dealer was unable to duplicate problem and said come back if problem persists.i returned the vehicle again at 5 weeks of ownership for the same problem.i again was told that they were unable to duplicate problem, and that this is the way a grand caravan "breaks in" by the service manage evona hartzell.i returned my vehicle again at 6 months for a week, a factory rep drove my car exactly five miles and declared the brakes in perfect working order, he did no other inspection.the van was back in the service department one week later for the fourth time for the same problem. All four visits totalling over 12 days for the same problem that they claim they can not duplicate therefore no repair is necessary.at 8 months of ownership the drop in brake pressure is now occuring during the braking process as well as when stopped for a period of time.the problem is worsening and the dealer refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem with my vehicle.i can provide you with detailed documentation at your request.

*sc

When the brakes are applied there wasa noise coming throughout the driver and passenger sides. Dealershipinspected several times, replaced disc, pads, and sensors, at least three times.however, the problem still recurred.also, automatic transmission problem.

Vehicle experienced abs failure caused by the rotors delaminating.

Brake failure every 16000 miles or so. I had to replace the front brake pads 4 times since i had this vehicle. I had to replace the rotors twice since purchase because the rotors delaminated. Yesterday the van had a hard time stopping. It was like the front brakes were not grabbing.

We had to have the entire braking system completely replaced on our vehicle.it had 26,100 miles on it at the time of the repair.they were not covered under warranty.this work was done on 10/05/04.i was involved in a minor car accident on 8/21/04 and think that the failing brakes hindered my ability to stop in time.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge caravan. The contact stated the doors could not be opened automatically or manually. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the doors had to be taken apart in order to locate the failure. The vehicle was notrepaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current miles were 77,000. Updated 07/27/11*ljthe consumer stated the radiator cooling fan broke, the steering wheel column came off while drivingand was incorrectly fixed at the dealer. The electric tail gate doesn't work. When applying the brakes left front brakes squeak very loudly, and there is a delay in stopping.

Upon front end vibration and squealing was informed that they needed to resurface the front rotors and put on new breaks at 23,000 miles.the steering gear and hoses were also replaced at 21,000 miles.i feel that any mechanic who was taking the front end apart should have noticed the breaks were in need of replacing then.

I took my 2002 dodge grand caravan to a repair shop to have my brakes looked at. They informed me that they did need replaced and i agreed to the service. I mentioned to them that my brake light came on periodically when putting on the brake but went out abruptly after the brake was depressed. They went and checked the brakes carefully and found not one but two brake calipers were either crushed in pieces or broke completely in half. My vehicle only has around 45,000 miles on it and was told by this shop and the dealership when i called them that this was highly unusual. I was gravely concerned about this safety problem and what this would mean to the remaining two calipers. I contacted chrysler about the problem and they basically told me there was no recall on it, it was out of warranty and there was nothing they were going to do about it. I told them this went beyond a "warranty" issue into a safety issue. This part was not wore out, it was defective (not one but two of them) and a safety hazard.

Etc.

Brakes woreout around 23,000 or 21,000 i purchased the vehicle used it had 15,000 miles already on it.the brakes were wearing outfaster and faster even though i put new routers on them. My mechanic says the calipers are defective. I thinkthe distribution of the brakes is not evenly handle by the front and the back.the front handles to much of thfe work and there is too much weight in the front of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that whenever the vehicle is parked in cold weather or gets wet, the brake system locks and the vehicle is unable to move.he had to remove the rear brake drum in order to repair the vehicle.the dealer stated that there was a technical service bulletin (number 10019632) affecting the service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:drum and informed the contact that he would have to repair the vehicle at his own expense.the vehicle has not been repaired.he has not filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage is 72,000. Updated 01/29/08

Vehicle will not go into gear smoothly.prior to this incident consumer was able to make a smooth transitions after a couple of attempts. Vehicle had to be towed dealer, where they discovered the rear brakesrusted .

Brake shoes are completely worn out with only 17,500 miles on vehicle.

I am having problem with my 2002 dodge grand caravan steering wheel. The steering wheel has a rubbing noise, binding, vibration, wandering and play in steering. I have taken the van for repair at maroone dodge in pembroke pines, fl. The dealer has told me on seven separate occasions that there is nothing they can do about the problem.*la

The power steering has gone on my 2002 dodge caravan sport and an estimated 500 dollars is needed to fix it. It has under 99,000 miles.

The power steering on our 2002 dodge grand caravan has failed during operation on 3 occasions.the first time was on a trip to providence ri where the reservoir failed on the highway.we reached our destination with great difficulty, as steering was virtually impossible -- my wife would not have been able to turn the wheel.the pump had been repaired in 2007.on this occasion, the seals and rack were replaced for $800.since that time, the power steering has drained completely as a result of a broken hose and broken seals.this happened in november 2009 and january 2010. The hose was fixed in november for 150.the broken seals/hose are currently under repair.i understand from our mechanic that this is a common problem for this automobile due to poor design.

Power steering failed while i was in the middle of a turn, pulling me into a pickup truck and "totaling" my 2002 dodge grandcaravan beyond insured recovery. Note:i had power steering cooling hose replaced as instructed in 2004 recall.

I entered cooling system problems, abs braking, steering, window motors and entire rusting under carraige.

My steering wheel acts up when it rains outside makes it hard to steer my left side speakers went out the tape decks never worked on my van my driver side window goes down but seems to have difficult going up my sliding doors seem to have difficulties at times the right side never opens

Chrysler has left me no choice but to file the lemon law.as of today i am waiting for a hearing date too be set. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Twice earlier this year i had two power steering hoses blow out on me while driving.had to make an emergency pull-over and have vehicle towed.

Whenever it rains, in portland oregon, that is all the time, the power steering goes out.you can hear the belt slipping and all the electrical warnings go on.this is an accident waiting to happen.due to the dangers of this problem, we will not drive this vehicle when it is or has been raining.

The dealer confirmed that the steering box was leaking and performed the repair.thirteen months later, the steering box began leaking for the second time.however, the dealership advised the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty and he would be liable for the cost of the repair. The contact had the vehicle repaired at the time. The vehicle currently experiencing additional leaking, but has not been diagnosed. The original failure mileage was 17,000 and the second failure was in 6/2005 with a failure mileage of 24,000.the current failure was at 47,000.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.the contact stated that the steering wheel has a tendency to lock while driving between 1 and 60 mph.he stated that there was a u-joint at the end of the steering column that freezes and causes the steering wheel to lock.the failure occurs each time the vehicle is in motion.the dealer stated that this was the first time they heard of this defect and there were no recalls available.the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 80,000.updated 02-25-08 updtated

Problem with steering for two years.the dealer has replaced lower power steering hose, power steering pump and rack and pinion.the dealer also replaced the two upper power return hoses and install a longer power steering hose.

Power steering was locking in cold weather during initial start up. First reported 4/05, dealer stated it was caused by problem with hoses which have a recall, recall performed, and vehicle returned. (not fixed), returned vehicle again a few days later, they verified problem still and replaced power steering pump *due to low pressure". I thought it was fixed.however, sine the problem only occurred in cold weather through the summer it was fine until early december again the problem was back but even worse, this time it was also happening while driving. Returned vehicle to dealer "of course it was now out of manufacture warranty", however dealer agreed to fix problem since it had prior history. They verified problem by service manager and mechanic the day i brought it in, however they were not able to duplicate the problem again.they had my van for 3 weeks, during this time they didn't know what they were going to do with it but were not going to give it back to the safety issue.i even tried to get chrysler involved and they never called me back even though i left several messages and was promised a call back.finally the dealer decided to replace the front steering rack.i got it back, it was fine for 4 days and problem is still there.i called the dealer and they said they didn't know what to do, and would leave a message for the service manager who was handling my case.it has now been 4 days and no return call.meantime im driving around and unsafe car, paying over $600.00 a month.im very upset there isn't more that can be done against these companies putting lives at risk.

After making a left or right turn the vehicles steering wheel did not return to center and as a result the vehicle hit a curve. While the driver depressed the gas pedal there was a delay in acceleration.once gas pedal caught the vehicle jumped forward.*nlm

Oncevehicle was in park steering wheeldid not lock. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer.however, dealer did not resolve the problem.

The power steering is making a sporadic whining noise only in the first few miles of driving when the vehicle is cold.trying to work with local dealer to replace the pump, however, since it doesn't happen all the time they can't "fix it if they don't hear it"i didn't consider this a safety concern until recently.it's happening so often now that i fear the power steering will fail.*la

Power steering system is making extreme amounts of noise.there is a high probability of premature failure causing loss of vehicle control if it happens during a cornering maneuver.dealer(s) acknowledge this is a defect on this model and get many complaints from customers.manufacturer has been contacted and refuses to repair the defective components.

Power steering failed.

My 2002 dodge grand caravan steering system.the steering system makes a rubbing noise, binding, vibration, wandering and play in steering. I took it to stockton dodge in california.at first they promised to call me back when a recalled part came back but no call was made.the last time they told me dodge was investigating this and there is no known solution at this time.this is not acceptavble and has a very high chance of causing an accident.if they can't fix a clear problem which lowers the car's value, is dangerous and uncurable, they have a duty to refund the money paid under the lemon law.

I brought my dodge grand caravan for a recall repair on oct 2003. The item was repacing a defective line in the power steering system. After the repair my vehicle made a whinning sound and grumbling sound at very slow speed, stop and go, pulling out of a parking space. I am hearing impaired and as the noise got louder it concerned me to take it back to the deale. They said that the line to the hydraulic power steering was to short and to correct it required a longer line. They told me that a bullitin from dodge identified the problem but no recall was issued. If the power steering would have gone out during higher speedsinjuries or a fatallity could occur. Loosing control at higher speeds is very dangerous.dear walter:your recent email to daimlerchrysler motors corporation was received andreviewed by the customer assistance center regarding your grand caravan.your concerns, particularly in view of the expense and inconvenience involved in this issue, are understandable.however, your request for consideration in this matter must be declined, because the vehicle in question has exceeded the time or mileage limitations of the manufacturer's warranty at the time the expense was incurred.

After receiving a recall for the upper power steering return hose, and callingthe dealer.the consumer was told by the managerthat theyonlyhad three parts in and they were only for vehicles that were inoperable. On feb 16 my wife lost the power stearing on our 2002 dodge grand carrivan [minni-van]on 17 feb 03 i called the garage that sold us the van and discribed the problem. They { service mang.] told me on the phone that i probley had a broken power stearing hose. I had the van towed to the garage and they made more statements of a large number of these hoses brakeing in the cold weather. It has been extreamly cold in maine the past week or so -20 to -30 degrees.the service manager stated that there was no recall on this. I can not belive that chreysler has not put out a recall on this. Number one this is a sudden loss of power stearing witch could put me in danger of haveing a accident. How about the 97 pound weekln who could not control a mini van with on pwoerstearing!! there is also a danger of fire if the power stearing fluid is in contact with the exhaust. As far as i know the repalcement hose is of the same matareal as the old hose and is just a little longer. Will some one from your office be in contact with me ? i wouls like to know what the great white farther in washington is doing to protect me from the money hungry corps. That pray on my trust. Thank you

Dt: the contact stated after having a nhtsa recall campaign04v386000repairs performedon the steering: hydraulic power assist: hose, piping, and connections there has been a shudder in the steering when attempting to make turns at low speeds.the vehicle has been to the dealer numerous times, andthe dealer was unable to accurately diagnose the problem.

Power steering, defective hose. Have had two power steering hoses replaced within 3 weeks. Dealer has replaced with exact same hose, says that is what chrysler tells them to replace it with. Dealer admits there is about 30 hoses replaced each week in cold weather. Also stated that all that may be needed is a stronger/better hose. No recall has been made. I have three young children that i transport daily. And i am concerned for their welfare. I also travel over 60 miles to work each day on the interstate. If the power steering goes while i am on the interstate it could cause a horrific accident even resulting in death. It shouldn't take that type of situation before a recall is made. If the hose goes again, i will be going through lemon law proceedings.

Power steering pump making load noises again.had hoses replaced due to previous recallabout a year ago.

My 2002 grand caravan is constantly having problems with power steering hoses. The last time this occured my wife and childer were in moving traffic when it completely failed. This is the fourth time this problem has occured and the repair men continually state that it is a cold weather problem. Well i live in north dakota...its always cold here..and this last failure occured when it was over 45 degrees. We need to get doge to fix this problem or give people vehicles that do not have this problem or just refund the consumers money. I do not have any faith in this vehicle, and in the winter i do not allow my wife and children to drive in it alone. She is simply not strong enough to drive it without power steering...something need to be done before someone gets killed.

The power steering hose ruptured and/or cracked resulting in loss of power steering and fluid.*ph

My vans power steering started to whine and vibrate during the cold driving until it warmed up a year ago, called the local dealership and was informed that there was no recalls on the power steering for my van.took the car in but by the time i had driven there it was not making any noise so now they are acting as if the sound is all in my head.looked up recalls on your website and found that there had been a recall on the hoses but the dealership still says no recall.the noise is worse and so is the vibration i fear a failure but no one will fix what isn't heard.after reading several other complaints about the same this should be a recall.

I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan with 45000 miles on it and the power steeringhas to be replaced, i think that is premature & should be consider as a recall.

Whiledrivingat 35 mph steering wheel feltlooseand made aloud noise.vehicle was taken to thedealership, whoreplaced thesteering pump. Eight months later, dealership indicated theneedede to replace the steering pump at consumer's expense.

Etc.

The rack and pinion is leaking, causing the power steering fluid to leak on our 2002 dodge grand caravan sport.we had the rack and pinion replaced in fall of 2005 after having trouble with steering.now in march of 2007 we are told by the service shop that it needs to be replaced again and that these vans tend to have this problem.upon contacting chrysler they inform us that they will not help us replace this part because the van is no longer under warranty.the problem seems to start with a noise when we turn the wheel, eventually becoming very loud and hard to turn as the problem worsens.

Power steering fluid leaking on garage floor.dealer said it was the power steering rack and that it needed to be replaced.chyrsler agreed to pay for half of the repair.18 months later the system is losing power steering fluid.the dealer is again saying that it is the power steering rack and that it needs replaced yet again.chrysler will not assist in any way on the $1,100.00 repair.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan.while the vehicle was undergoing a routine inspection, the contact was informed that the steering:rack and pinion was leaking fluid and needed to be replaced.he took the vehicle to an authorized dealer and was informed that the parts were on back order because it was a common failure for that year, make, and model vehicle.the vehicle was repaired at the cost of $1,234.the current and failure mileages were 50,000.

*sc

Vehicle is rusting under the paint as well as rusting quite quickly on the leaf spring mounts as well as most metal parts under the vehicle.

Vehicle generates excessive wind noise in the cocpit at speeds above 50mph. Noise is focused around windshield area and is loud enough to obscure radio and conversations in a normal volme by passengers. On extended travel, noise is quite annoying to drive and passengers and increases fatigue factor. This creates a safety problem. The majority of my driving is at highway speeds. With this noise level, i would consider the van unacceptable.

Van was sitting in the driveway when i tried to open the passenger side sliding door.door will not unlock by pulling up on the actual lock or via the power door switch.it's not a power sliding door.thought this was an isolated incident when i looked online and saw many, many other folks have the same problem.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge caravan. The contact stated that the rear door handle had melted due to exposure to the sun and the door was unable to be opened. Also, the drivers side of the dashboard had also melted and cracked due to exposure to the sun causing debris to separate from the dashboard making contact with the driver while driving with the windows opened. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer jacksonville dodge (11101 nurseryfield dr. Jacksonville fl)and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while parked down hill the manual sliding doors slammed shut.the door goes into the lock position but, the plastic mechanism that holds the door locked has a crack which causes the door to slam shut.the dealership has been alerted.

My dodge 2002 grand caravan sliding door lock has seized in lock position. This first occurred early in 2010 with the lock sticking in the unlock position. After talking to several mechanics i learned that this is a common problem on dodge vans. A couple of months later the lock suddenly unlocked and the sliding door starting working again. Now recently the lock has seized only now in the locked position so my children have to exit my vehicle on the drivers side which usually is facing the street. This is dangerous!!!! i went online and googled problems with dodge vans and found so many reports of the same thing. Please hold dodge accountable for its actions before ( god forbid) somebody's child gets hurt or worse.

I have a 2002 grand caravan with dual sliding doors.sometimes, the doors do not detect an obstruction and attempt to close anyway.yesterday, my 3 year old daughter received minor bruising to her waist after climbing out of the van while the door was in motion.the door did not retract until i forcibly pushed the door after seeing her in distress.it did not retract after sensing her torso in the path.she was ok but received a bruise on each side of her waist (door and van body contact).i had to use unnecessary force to force the door open and doing so disengaged the automatic closing mechanism which required a manual closing afterwards.this has happened numerous times but has never resulted in an injury until now.the dealer says that a certain amount of resistance is required for the autoreversal to activate.evidently it requires more force than my child's body.this is unacceptable.*nlm

Both power sliding doors will not stop when consumer puts hand in path of door at bottom, it shuts automatically. Dealer admitted they are made this way. The slot at the bottom of the sliding door was wide and could catch hand or foot of passenger.

The vehicles sliding doors did not work properly.the dealer has inspected it three times but could not duplicate or correct the problem. *nlm

Vehicle was moving at approximately 5 mph and hit a pole. The impact from the pole damaged the frame of the vehicle. Consumer has a conversion van to accomodate a wheel chair passenger. Both the driver and the passenger were injured.consumer took the van to the dealer when the consumer was informed thast there was cosmetic damage to the van.

I entered cooling system problems, abs braking, steering, window motors and entire rusting under carraige.

Ball joints are bad leading to a very rough ride.

Van has been in repair shopfour times due to an unknown noise coming from rear left wheel.dealership has done several lubrications, cleaning, and looking for hot spots on the brakes.even after allmaintenance that was performed by the dealership the unknown sound was still present.please describe details.

Vehicle is rusting under the paint as well as rusting quite quickly on the leaf spring mounts as well as most metal parts under the vehicle.

The van is subject to drift to the right with the owner being told that the drifting is a safety feature to keep van from veering into on-coming traffic. The owner was told that the van should drift one lane 3/4 of a mile.the dealership is going to adjust the cradle to minimize the drifting.the owner has contacted several independent mechanics, police officers, etc., to inquire if this is true or not about the drifting being a safety feature.nlm

Dodge grand caravan sport. Has rear axel craked. This problem can put the vehicle usafe on the road, and also cause death or injury.

Sway bars & bushings needed replacement and i have had them relaced every 2 years since then.

I bought a 2002 dodge grand caravan at around 87k in 2004. At the time i was aware that there's a knocking noise under the hood. I thought maybe due to the high mileage. I've been a local dealer for regular services since then and no one ever told me there's a problem with this. Until around september i went to the deal had transmission fluid changed and a person from the service department wanted me to replace sway bar links and bushings for my vehicle. I didn't know what was this all about so i asked a list of parts that he required me for replacing.i went home and did some research on these parts and found many owner of this cars complaint about a knocking noise from this model. An owner was told to replace his sway bar links and bushings and he did what was told but the noise is coming back after 6 months. My co-worker bought his chrysler town & country (2002 model), which is the same model as dodge grand caravan around the same time (2004) i bought mine. It's mileage is around 30k. He gave me a ride just 2 weeks ago and i found that it has the knocking noise too.my worry is will this a safety issue or not? i'm sure this is a manufactured defect from daimler chrysler and just wondering why dc isn't recall this model for having the problem fixed?* this should be a all year round incident excepts summer (why?).

The left front strut rod has broken away from the strut. This has caused a load popping noise while drive. The van leans allot more to the right than it does to the left. Also when making sharp turns the rod itself rubs against the tire causing a very load rubbing noise with the smell of rubber burning. The dealer informed me that this problem is not covered under any warranty the cars has or had. Be careful out there. I think is potentially a bad and dangerous problem. It cost me about 300.00dollars to fix this.

The left front strut mount or sway bar rodbroke and caused my tire to blow out. I had my children in the car at the time and almost went into a ditch. It cost me $350.00 to repair.

Dodge grand caravan sport 2002sway bar bushing mount wears out prematurely and causes extreme degrading in vehicle handling.

Consumer states that rear-end felt as if dragging while driving.dealer diagnosed that plate, which covers the brake system, is defective causing water to leak into the system, resulting inrusting.this condition causes complete brake failure.

The problem i am having is that the gas mileage is way off.i am only 12 miles to a gallon and should get aleast 18.i have had in for repairs numerous times and on some occassions they will replace a sensor or a hose.within a couple of weeks it is back to the same old problem again. Sometimes they say they can find no problem.what do i do?

First incident was the airbag light came on intermittently.the dealer repaired it last week.today, the entire instrument panel functioned intermittently.dealer was called and another repair date was set.

The contact owns a 2002 dodge grand caravan. While driving in rain or snow between approximately 20 to 70 miles per hour, the serpentine belt slipped off the pulley and the power steering ability was reduced. Also, the battery indicator illuminated after the failure.

When accelerating from a full stop the car will either sputter and almost stall or it will in fact stall.this has happened as close as the end of our block to 15 minutes into a trip.it has usually occured in the first drive of the day, but lately it has been happenening at any point of the day.

I own a 2002 dodge grand caravan, which has cruise control installed.there are two buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, engage/disengage which engages the system, and set, which sets the system on the speed selected.there are three buttons on the right side of the steering wheel, accel/resume, cancel which cancels the last setting set, and decel.about 50% of the time when i 'cancel' the last setting engaged, after 1 to 3 seconds the system will re-engage and accelerate toward the speed previously selected.it will not re-engage if the system is de-activated by either the brake application or by pressing the disengage button.

My 2002 dodge grand caravan has a "blindspot" in its left hand mirror.vehicles passing on the left of the vehicle can initially be seen as they pass on the left side.however as they pull more along side of the vehicle they "disappear" from view in the mirror.this applies to all types and sizes of passing vehicles and could lead to pulling into the path of a passing vehicle.
