I have an air bag warning light on my dash, took it to my mechanic and was told it is a seat belt tensioner he has tried for two weeks to obtain this part and was told there is a nation wide back order on this item. It will take two or more weeks to be shipped. Sounds like it affects a lot of durangos and was wondering if this should have been a recall?
After coming to a stop, i put my vehicle in park. While exiting, the engine started revving causing it to jump out of gear. This resulted in a crash into an apartment that could have turned out much worst.

I bought a 2003 durango formy daughter in april, 2004 from hertz car sales.last saturday morning she was driving home with two other passengers in the car and she hit a light pole.i would guess that they hit at about 35 mph.the impact stopped the car pretty suddenly.she was wearing her seat belt, but the other two weren't.the airbags never went off.the person in the passenger side almost broke thru the windshield.he had a concussion, needed stitches and broke his hip on the dash.i expect that to be the greatest liability.the bumper is bent way back.the repair is in excess of $10k, but my daughter is afraid the airbags don't even work.what can we do?

Chief complaint: purchased vehicle used with approx. 30,000 miles on it. Have been experiencing engine/electrical issues which require me to change spark plugs and engine coils about every 50,000 miles. I have done this three time in the last six years costing me about 900+ each visit. I have taken it to several different mechanics for opinions. I recently started getting misfiring again. Repaired again one at a time as well as some spontaneous occurrences that were very frightening. For example: wind shield wipers going crazy, lights blinking, doors locking and unlocking, windows rolling them selves down at night, horn blaring when turning on head lights, and the best one random small acceleration while driving. I have been told i have a faulty tipm. The dealership will not take any responsibility for this vehicle due to it being on year out of the documented recall year. This is very dangerous. Something should be made right.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. After starting the vehicle, the headlights, tail lights, and interior lights started to flash on and off with the emergency indicator illuminating on the instrument panel. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the central timer module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 119,000.
Repeated failure/burning of blower motor resistor and connector. Potential for electrical fire under the dash on passenger side. Have had burning smell and smoke from this.
When the computer shut down, the vehicle stopped functioning.after repeated visits to the dealer, the locks intermittently opened and closed by themselves.the vehicle was returned ten times, five computer replacements, and the locks on the vehicle were intermittent.the consumer requested a refund of the purchase price. *sc
The central timer module on 2003 dodge durangos is bad and has been recalled, but my 2003 dodge durango was not included in the recall somehow.my central timer module is bad and my driver side headlight doesn't work.i would like my vehicle to be included in the recall since it has the exact problem symptom and solution, and is just as dangerous as other durango's that are included in the recall.
I have a 2003 durango that has been showing some very unusual electrical problems. The headlights and dash lights will sometimes flicker at night. The door chime sounds like the speaker has a short in it. I noticed that my garage door opener no longer works and sometimes the compass and temp gauge in the overhead freezes. The worst thing that happened was the passenger headlight went out and refuses to work with a new bulb. I tested the circuit and it is dead. I looked into the issue and found out that it has a central time module that controls many of the electrical functions of the truck. Mine has all the classic symptoms of a bad one. I also found out that a few hundred durango's and dakota's were recalled for this problem, however mine was not one of them. I have seen multiple threads on the internet of customers complaining of the same thing and dodge is not replacing them. It is a serious safety issue as the headlights can stop working at night as you drive. I contacted dodge and they said that they will review this problem and send me an e-mail with their decision in a few day's . This never happened. I have been loyal to dodge for many years owning 2 dakota's, 1 ram truck and my durango r/t. I am not going to buy any dodge products in the future as i would like to be able to trust that the company that made my vehicle will do what it takes to fix a serious safety issue. It's as if they don't care about safety.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. While driving approximately 20 mph, the headlamp flickered on and off. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the central timer module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 02v322000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
This issue happens randomly: vehicle is parked: power door locks do not work you have to manually unlock all doors, vehicles starts fine but "service 4x4"appears on the cluster, all dome lights stay on, cluster lights (gage's etc.) do not light up, no exterior lights work (i.e headlights, parking lights, brake and so on). Vehicle will not return to normal state until i disconnect the battery and reconnect. It has happened multiple times on different days. Sometimes it will happen within a day of each instant, other times it will go a month and then do it again.
While driving my durango, my headlights flash on and off. This is very unsafe at night. This problem has been recalled on other durangos but mine was not included, though it is the same problem. I have taken it to a mechanic only to be told they can not fix it, i have to use a dodge dealer.
Since purchasing this vehicle new it has had major electrical issues. The sad part, nobody at dodge cared. It would shift into 4wd low at dangerous speeds. After taking to several dodge dealers none could or would fix it. Dodge themselves basically laughed at ripping off yet another customer. Nhtsb has totally ignored the thousands of consumers with issues on these vehicles. Ours is another that have the pulsating lights problem that apparently nhtsa and dodge feel it isn't an issue to have your lights turn off while driving in traffic at 70 mph. Apparently in the automotive/govt. Relationship as long as the vehicle hasn't killed all of us yet everything is okay. At least the dodge dealers are doing well. They've raked in more cash by denying the issue and throwing expensive parts at these lemons. My question is this: if these vehicles have had a recall on :"specific" vin's yet thousands of others have the same issue how does the nhtsa justify leaving those consumers without help or protection?
Air conditioning stopped working under normal use.after inspecting the blower motor resistor, and connector plug i found the inside to be melted likely due to too much voltage.i had to cut the wires as the connector was fused to the resistor.not able to find this connector through local junk/salvage yards, because this apparently is a common issue with this model durango.only able to get after market part for this connector, and will have to re-wire it to the blower motor resistor.
While driving the vehicle will switch into four wheel low. The indicator light flashes as if it is in four low. The last time we were traveling 35 miles per hour and it happened. I've read about the variety of electrical problems and believe this is one more. The key fobs quit working and we had a strange "p d one" message flash on the odometer. It has been to the dealer three separate times and they have told us we were switching the knob. They won't believe us because they can't make it happen. This, along with the transmission and other electrical complaints make me think these are very unsafe vehicles to be on the road.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated while driving at the speeds of 60 mph, she noticed that there were sparks coming from the passenger side heater wiring harness. There was a burning odor and noticed the plastic on the wires had melted. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where they confirmed that the wiring harness melted. The wiring harness lasted nine months after it was repaired. The failure was repairedtwice. The dealer was contacted and did not acknowledge the failure. The vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure thatoccurred. The failure mileage was 101,000 and the current mileage was 173,000.
Wife started the truck this morning and had the windshield wipers going and turned on the headlights before backing up.the headlights started flashing and interior lights along with the lights in the dash were all flashing and going crazy.i had my wife turn off the windshield wipers and returned to normal.research on all the forums says its the "ctm" central timer module.i called the dealership and was told it would cost $520. Just for the part and that didn't include any labor.this is a known issue and some models do have a recall for this very thing but my vin was excluded.
Many times, when the key is turned to start the vehicle, it has slipped out of park, so it will not start unless the driver is successful in putting it into park. When the weather is warm it is especially liable to this problem. Usually in the winter or in cool weather it does not slip out of park. I have not found anyone who can find out how to correct this problem.
Blower fan resistor pigtail melted twice now. I have 4 kids and am scared my dodge durango is going to catch fire because of this happening. It's an electrical problem. We have tried fixing and the same thing keeps happening.
The problem originally started about 2 weeks ago.when i switched on the rear fan (heat or ac did not matter), the entire center console (radio, blower switches, and electronic 4wd switch) would go completely dead, and the "service 4wd" light would come on.then this started happening when i turned on the front blower or the rear blower.then it started happening with both blowers off and the headlights on high.now it does it spontaneously for no apparent reason with all extra electrical components (the headlights, radio, and blowers) all off.i'm thinking there is a short somewhere, but cannot identify it.so far, i have replaced the blower motor resistor, the tccm, and the ignition switch with no apparent improvement.i've also had the dash apart and checked every electrical wire i could get to for obvious shorts.no luck.the problem is getting progressively worse.i talked to the mechanic at the local dodge dealer, and he said he thinks it's the tipm (main fuse box) in the engine compartment.he said he sees them short out "all the time, some of them so bad they actually catch fire!"(direct quote from him.)i am now terrified to drive my durango, but i cannot afford the hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars it's going to cost to fix the tipm, if that's what it really is.but i do not want drive it with the possibility of a vehicle fire.i've done all kinds of internet research on this, and it seems like a really common problem in the durangos.also, my friend who works at a salvage yard says these fuse boxes are one of their most sought after parts.surely an electrical problem that is this common and of such a catastrophic magnitude should be a recall!
While driving to vehicle it shuts down without warning loosing power brakes steering very scary when you not ready for it then had it towed home looked at it replaced a few parts got it running for about 3 miles and died on me again and would not start up again had it towed to a repair shop and now 2 weeks later still at shop with no answer yet something needs to be done to many people with the same prob thanks
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.while driving at an unknown speed, the wire harness for the air conditioner and heater becomes too hot and melts the two connecting wires.the failure has been repaired two or three times, but still persists and causes the vehicle to become very hot.the contact has paid over a $100 for each repair.the dealer stated that there was no recall for the failure and it must be repaired every time.the failure mileage was 93,000.
All lighting on my 2003 dodge durango except hazard and brake lights failed at the same time.this includes all interior lighting, headlights, fog lights and running lamps.no fuses blown.discussion with dodge dealership revealed that this is common problem and is caused by failure of the headlight switch unit on the dashboard.further investigation on message boards also revealed that this is common problem, along with the wiring harness to the switch assembly which becomes hot and melts.
Driving home from north carolina to new york, i-95, legal speed limit of 65mph, truck shut off displaying "no bus" in odometer screen. Was able to pull over safely, thank god, and turned ignition off for a couple of seconds and than restarted truck. Thankfully it started up and i was able to proceed on my way. This happened a few times more while on my trip to new york. Driving locally didn't encounter any other problems. Have scanner at home as i'm a auto repairman at a novice level, and was surprised that not one code was stored in the computer. None of the forums seem to be able to give me any insight as to what caused this problem as none of the recommended checks produced any bad tests. This is a serious problem that should be recalled and fix by the chrysler corp before someone gets killed.
The blower motor resistor keeps burning out. Constantly have to keep replacing the parts for the resistor. Why has this not been recalled yet?
"takata recall"on january 2017 my 2003 dodge durango. Became a blaze under my carport. Attach to my home. Causing a total loss to my home and vehicle. I purchased my vehicle april of 2003 brand new. At liberty chrysler dogge jeep. In hinesville georgia. This happened at approximately 1:25 a.m. On the morning of january 27th. The vehicle had not been droven since a promptly 9 the night before. After the fight ilearn that there was a recall on the year of this vehicle. This is the recall# 06v339000. I was never made aware of this recall by mail or phone.
Headlight, horn, instrument panel failure on my '03 durango. Durangos and dakotas have been recalled for a bad central timer module. Chrysler says my vehicle does not fall under the recall. The dealer has done a official diagnostic and found the ctm to be faulty. I will have to pay to have it replaced. The vehicle is unsafe to drive. Updated 02/24/10. *ljthe consumer stated shortly after filing the report, his wife had an accident due to the problem mentioned.she was out early in the morning on november 3, 2009 when the headlights failed. While trying to pull to the side of the road, without the use of the headlights, she scraped the side of the vehicle on a roadside metal marker. The scrape went the whole length of the vehicle.updated 05/12/10.
My headlights and interior lights started blinking accompanied by a clicking sound coming from the left side of the steering panel. The windshield wipers also do not work unless put on high, and the gas light sound beeps every 20-30 seconds continuously until gas is put in. The beeping sound for the gas light will stop once refilled but lights continue to blink, interior and exterior while vehicle is in motion. I have done research on this problem and it seems like every other person with a 2003 dodge durango is experiencing the exact same problem but dodge refuses to recall the part, saying it was fixed, which is the ctm module causing this problem, when taken into a dealership it is the ctm that needs to be fixed and is absurd that more vehicles have not been recalled for this problem when every single one is experiencing the exact same problems.
I have had to replace the heater blower resistor once a year for the last 2 years in my 2003 dodge durango. This time the heater wiring harness pigtail connection was corroded and melted and burnt, it was melted to the resistor module. After replacing it now the abs light ,the brake light are on, the clock wont work, the speedometer will not work. This durango only has 31,000 miles on it. The dodge dealer service dept. Said they sell alot of these resistors. It sounds like there needs to be a recall before there are fires in this resistor or heater wiring harness. I saw lots of other peoplewith the same problems on online auto chat boards. Please check into this problem.
While driving at night headlights and dashboard lights start to flicker. Clicking sound heard while the flash off and on.
During normal driving when coming to stops in my 2003 dodge durango slt, the vehicles electrical system will flash and the vehicle will stall.i took durango to dealership and was told there is nothing wrong with it on several occasions.this problem still continues and could lead to serious traffic accidents.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.the contact stated that while traveling 15 mph, the headlights, interior lights, power door locks and remote key suddendly failed.the failure occurred on several occasions.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the central timer module needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 148,000.
The blower only works on the "high' setting.
I noticed that when i used my remote to unlock the doors, it set off the alarm.i pushed the unlock button several times and it stopped the alarm.the vehicle started fine and then went haywire when i hit about 15mph.the locks began locking and unlocking, the horn was beeping, the windshield wipers turned on, my high beams were flashing, and the interior "ding" was going off.it stopped and started again all within a 2 mile trip.once i got home, the locks would only work manually, the headlights didn't work, and the interior lights were blinking.this morning, the durango is fine and all components work.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that the air conditioning unit wiring harness overheated and failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the wiring harness was found to be burned. The dealer replaced the wiring harness resister and blower. The dealer stated that the wiring harness was registering far too many amps. The contact stated that the failure was recurring.the failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 53,000.
Blower motor completely stops working due to blower motor resistor and attached wiring pigtail completely burning out. This problem has occurred every 12 -18 months over the last five years of ownership. The failure requires the replacement of a resistor(part # 5061575aa) and wiring harness connector kit.(part # 5017124ac) it is my understanding from the mechanics who have made these repairs that all or part of the parts requiring replacement have overheated to the extent of melting and/or burning prior to failure.
- the contact owns a 2003 dodge durango with a current and failure mileage of 34,500. The contact was driving at60 mph under normal dry conditions when the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that when the stalling occurred all of the instrument panel lights turned on, and the door chime started to buzz.the contact was able to pull to the side of the road without a crash. Consumer is requesting reimbursement.
I own a 2003 durango with 20,000 miles. After done shopping went to parking lot and hit the unlock button on remote.horn started honking, lights flashing.thought i might have hit panic button but didn't think so, so i hit all the buttons again, put key in ignition and started car but horn still honked and lights kept flashing inside & out. Could not stop it.started to drive home and lights would flash intermittently and horn honk intermittently.stopped at store to get batteries for remote key thinking there was some computer problem and signel wasn't right.still would not stop.continued to drive home on interstate highway when i lost the headlights and taillights.four way flashers kept flashing.before i could get to exit highway patrol pulled me over.said that was the second such incident that day with a durango.he called a tow truck for me and we towed it home.the next day i was able to drive it to dealership.they replaced the central timer modual. Dealer states they have had several durango's with this problem.since the car is still in warranty i did not have to pay.
I purchased a new dodge durango on juy 11, 2003 and it now has a little over 800 miles on it.i had driven it with no problem until last thursday, august 14.i parked it in the garage and it never started for me again.when i tried to start it on friday, the gas gauge was registering empty although there was a half of a tank of gas in it.i tried to start it sat, sun and mon.it made a noice but would not start. I had it towed to the dealer service dept early mon morning. They also could not start it.multiple tests have been done on this car for the last 5 days and the dealer was finally able to start it but they can not diagnois or fix the problem as they do not know what is wrong.the car would not start for the dealer 3 times while in their possession. Today, friday, aug 22, the dealer had the car running and wanted to release it back to me with no repairs.i refused to take it back as i don't know what the problem is and am afraid that i will not be able to depend on it starting everyday as they don't know why it didn't start for all the other days.the dealer kept the car to see if it starts on mon, aug 25th. I don't know what category this falls into but to me it's a safety issue.i don't know if the computers in the car are reading that the car is out of gas and maybe it will happen on the expressway and i will have an accident.i may be in an unsafe area or out at night alone and this car will not start.i won't be able to go anywhere out of state because i'll be afraid that i'll be stranded.i would never believe that i would purchase a car at this price and have absolutely no confidence in it or have the abilty to go where i choose and when i choose. All i wanted was to get the car fixed but no one can determine what needs to be fixed or how to prevent it from happening again.
After taking the key out of the ignition switch, the vehicle was still running. Smoke started to come out from under the hood. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.the vehicle is shutting off while driving 60 mph.as a result, the vehicle becomes uncontrollable and difficult to steer off road.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the dealer stated that there was a short in the ignition switch and it needed to be replaced.the current mileage was 50,000 and failure mileage was 35,000.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that smoke emitted from under the dashboard. The contact also stated that the heat and air conditioning failed and the front end of the vehicle made a thumping noise and became louder as vehicle speed increased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was informed that the wiring harness emitted the smoke and it along with the front hub unit, needed to be replaced. The failure and current mileages were 113,000....updated 04/25/13 updated05/16/2013
At an idle engine rev,s up and down, revs up enough to move the vehicle with the brakes on,transmission slipped a lot esp on the highway, will also drop into passing hear and speed up sometimes on its own. Very danerous to drive sometimes.speeds up by its self almost caused an accident.
I have had these parts replaced twice this will be the third time.dodge has or had a recall.but when i went to have it fixed they told me the recall did not affect this particular vehicle.it's a unsafe vehicle.i am worried because i am a single mom and keep up with all the maintenance on it myself.if it's recalled i believe dodge should honor all recalls on the vehicles.thanks
Never had any problems til we drove almost 5 hrs on vacation to gatlinburg and before we even got into town the check gauge light came on and realized the temp gauge was in the red. Never leaked coolant or smelled any antifreeze. The next day after letting it sit overnight it seemed fine no check light was on drove it back still no engine light on and temp was fine, few weeks later all hell broke loose! the valve train started ticking. Had it towed to the dealership (kings cjd) and found a failed rocker & tappet had replaced 4 days later was doing it on the driver side, took it back that's when it took them a few days to figure out it was leaking coolant down into the cylinders. Chrysler didn't have cylinder heads available it took over 2 months for us to get the part (not from chrysler) as far as we know they still don't have the part available. 28 plus people are on a waiting list to receive cylinder heads that are still not available! repeated trips to the dealership for leaking valve covers on both sides, still dealing with issue of possible leak around crank seal on timing cover. Chrysler does seem to give a darn about our time and money wasted for the supposed repairs that are not fixed!! has anyone else reading this had any issues regarding cylinder heads???? i think when you have 28 plus people on the waiting list for the same part for the same make & model vehicle same engine 4.7 v8 obviously their is a manufacture issue not an owner issue!!! that's just a taste of what is going on their is plenty more and chrysler just keeps telling us im sorry and that's it im sorry!!! we have had several case mgrs and noone seems to be caring.
Hello yesterday i left work wasn't in my truck for 5 minutes and it started smoking white smoke came out and i seen antifreeze spray everywhere i don't know if the engine locked on me or the head gasket is blown either way what can i do about thisalso before this happened when it rains my truck will spin it scared the hell out of me when i was driving to work but this only happens when it rains the tires look good
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stop there was a loud noise coming from the engine. The contact stated that there was also a lost of acceleration power. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 70,050.
There is and has been numerous complaints about the dodge durango 4.7 engine i am just one ofmany whoo have been effected by the defects and faailures of this engine.nothing will probably ever be done like thrown rodes through engjine over heating issuues.
The car started over heating last may 2013. After all the repairs, the car is still overheating - replaced the radiator, the thermostat, the hoses, flushed the coolant and put fresh coolant in it, fixed the fans. I have to add coolant to keep it from overheating however even that is not working. The issue according to the mechanic is with the engine and cooling system design that has a flaw in it. It is a re- call that should have taken place a long time ago and dodge needs to step up and fix the problem.
Rear air dont work from heat to cold . Turn head lights on the parks lights dont work
While driving, i noticed that when i accelerate after braking, the driver seat slides back and forth about an inch. Also, when i'm at a red light, with my foot on the brakes the vehicle accelerates. Both of these are very serious and dangerous issues and should be recalls.
Air bag light stays 'on ' on dashboard, had to take to service station to get it checked out , they told me to check if there were any recalls for this issue .also the check engine light stays on , code is for evap leak , changed the gas cap , checked hoses , light remains after being cleared.
When driving vehicle down road engine will quit with no warning.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while in park, the contact noticed that there was excessive consumption of engine oil. In addition, the check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics, who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 166,000.
I purchased my vehicle 10/2019. Since then i have taken to repair shop for vehicle stalls when coming to a stop or at a stop, let along when slowing for a stop. Then rpm's drop! i have almost been rear ended multiple times due to this, with my children and grandchildren in car!!!the shop i've taken to can not find out why this is happening. Granted we tried replacing hoses, valve gaskets tune up.i feel there should be a recall to find and fix this before a serious injury happens. This has also happened as i was driving and i had to put in neutral to restart. The streets and roads i have to travel are usually always busy.also the vehicle when stopping the front driver and passenger seats slide back and forth, they are not what i would call safe... For i believe the rules ares to check mirrors, adjust seating, wear seat belts to ensure that you will be driving safely. I could be wrong but i'm pretty positive.needs fixing now!!the other issue is the hoses... They seem to fall off and i take into shop just to hear its the hose again. Not counting numerous other issues like windows not rolling down some days, rear heater doesn't work unless the front heater is off.i've always been a dodge fan but i think with all these issues with this vehicle i'll be checking out out dodge and moving to someone that actually doesn't have over 6 recalls on the vehicles and multiple other complaints like dodge has had and that i've just read.
2003 dodge durango was purchased from a local dealership in wickliffe,oh in april of 08. The vehicle has been at the dealership needing to be serviced in excess of 7 times, from the bushings being replaced to the check engine light repeatedly coming on with the dealerships inability to fix it . I have been in a rental car more than i have driven the vehicle that i purchased from the dealership. There was an evap code as they so eloquently stated so they allegedly fixed that only to find that the check engine light still continually comes on. Every time that the problem was supposedly resolved, i was back at the dealership within 2 to 3 days with the same problem again. The management there stated and admitted that they simply can't fix the vehicle therefore they are going to get me out of it so they even had me to pick another vehicle which they said would fit perfectly and should not affect the payment that i have in place right now. I have been hearing about getting this replacement vehicle for over 3 months with no result. The vehicle is not safe when driving on the highway and hittinga bump because it feels as if the front end is going in two different directions. My wife wont drive it, we are scared to put our kids into it and i need your help right away.
While driving, the vehicle stalled. The consumer managed to pull over and restart the vehicle.
While driving at 60 mph the vehicle stalled and jerked.another motorist informed the consumer that the vehicle was on fire.the consumer exited the vehicle, and watched the engine compartment become engulfed in flames.the fire was extinguished with no injuries.the dealer informed the consumer that enginethrew a rod, and it punctured the oil pan. The engine was replaced. *sc
We bought a 2003 dodge durango on june 26, 2007. On august 8, 2007 all of a sudden, with no warning it started sounding funny, like a diesel, a few minutes later the oil pressure dropped to zero and just a few seconds after that the engine locked up. We were on the interstate abut 50 miles from home with 2 children. Luckily we got a ride home and had the vehicle towed later on that night. The vehicle was under a 7 yr./70,000 mile warranty, but dodge doesn't want to honor it. We had the vehicle barely over a month when this happened. I had just gotten it registered and tagged 5 days before it happened and made the first payment 7 days before it happened. Now we don't know what to do. I have read hundreds of other reports exactly like our situation. Please do something and make dodge acknowledge that there is a huge problem with their engines!!!
Vehicle has a brake pulsation and had a brake squeak.this has been going on since vehicle was purchased in 10-03.vehicle was returned to dealership while under warranty. They replaced the brake pads and resurfaced the rotors.this did not eliminate the pulsation but did eliminate the squeak.the transmission bangs into gear and has a long delay going from park into reverse.this is an ongoing problem.the vehicle has been returned to the dealer more than 10 times.they claimed they could not duplicate the problem.this is after telling us they felt something but did not know what it was.engine stalls and runs rough.this is intermittent and dealer could not duplicate it.i have spoken with several transmission shops and they have stated that there is a fix for the transmission problem.chrysler will not perform the repair.they did agree to install the necessary parts if i purchased them but then this would void my warranty.and why should i pay for a repair that should be covered under my warranty??
I have a 2003 durango, for the past several weeks, the truck will not start in the morning, you are forced to hold you foot on the gas until the truck is warmed up.when driving, when you come to a stop the idle of the truck drops so low, feels like the truck is going to stall, then it caught itself at the last moment.truck has been back to the dealer no less then 9 times for this problem. They have not been able to duplicate the problem. The truck just went out of warranty, so i sure next time i bring it back, they will find what the problem is. I will never purchase another dodge again!
While driving to work on secondary roads at approx 30mph, engine smoked, seized, over-heated, bucked and failed.had it towed and mechanic immediately noticed sludge around top of some gasket.before further inspection, he said immediately that it was not a good sign at all and most likely would need new engine.i was shocked as this truck is our secondary vehicle and has only been driven approx 20,000 miles in 3 years with regular oil changes and no issues whatsoever!no indication was given via warning lights of any issues nor was there any change in how it drove immediately prior to seizing.after a day, the mechanic confirmed it needed total engine replacement.we assumed we were being taken advantage of and had it towed to another repair place, who only went on to say the same: new engine needed!after researching this on-line it seems that many of this make and model have had issues with this, yet there is no recourse with the manufacturer.we were owners of a 1999 dodge durango prior to this and that vehicle also needed total engine replacement after 60 days but thankfully it was covered through the dealership.we are no longer under any type of warranty and since this is a known issue, we feel that daimler chrysler should recognize this known issue based on the amount of complaints there is regarding this!not only will we be abandoning this vehicle, as we are told that if we replace the engine for approx $4000 it will more than likely happen again, but we will never, ever purchase a vehicle through this manufacturer again!shame on daimler/chrysler for not acknowledging their fault!
While driving any speed, the vehicle stalled. . the cause was not determined. Updated 5/3/2006 - the consumer sat for about ten minutes and the vehicle was restarted.when it was restarted it made a lot of noise.the consumer drove the vehicle home about 10 mph.the next morning the vehicle was towed to a local repair facility who indicated that the problem was probably with the engine or transmission.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. While driving approximately 30 mph the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the engine warning indicator. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume driving. The failure occurred five times.the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
While traveling 70 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer was able to restart vehicle ten minutes later, and drove it to the dealer.mechaniccould not be duplicate the problem. ....incident date 09/30/2004. Consumer claimed dodge was responsible for stalling. Daler never had an experienced mechanic examine the vehicle.
I have an 03 dodge durango and ever so often when i make a stop the rpm go up and down and makes it want to shut off and there's times where it actually cut off and some days when i want to pull off it wont move unless i sit there and let it warm for at least 2-5 minutes lugs have started to pop off had a diagnostic and they found nothing.
While at idle or taking off slowly the truck will stall out-i have found if i run my a/c even when its cold out side it does better-but something is wrong---evenwhen driving at highway speeds rpms go up and down--even when cruise is ongas mileage very bad---feels like something holding truck back---not smoothengine driving. No check engine light--no codes.
I have a 2003 dodge durango.the vehicle has been in to the service department of my local dodge / jeep dealer due to a an engine light coming on.they have been unable to find out what is wrong with the vehicle.
While driving down highway, the oil warning light came on.immediately we pulled over and checked oil, which was fine.we started the car and began driving.while driving, the engine began to make a clicking noise.immediately, i pulled over again and had to have the car towed to a dodge dealership.i was told by the dodge service department that the engine failure was due to sludge in the oil that blocked the screen to the oil pump.we would require a new engine.dodge has denied our power train warranty due to the sludge.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mphhe heard a loud knocking noise in the engine. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic who advised him that the valve seat came out of the head gasket causing it to open. The vehicle was repaired by decarbonating the engine. The manufacturer was contacted butoffered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 107,571.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the heater failed to function. The contact also stated that the connecting wires for the fan resistors were melted. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.
2003 dodge durango. Consumer states problem with blown head gasket *tgw
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.while idling at a traffic light, the vehicle accelerated by itself.the brake pedal was depressed when the failure occurred.the rear tires turned over and pushed the vehicle out into the intersection.the vehicle then began to fishtail.the contact turned the wheel to the left and caused the vehicle to roll over.he sustained head injuries.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 06e024000 (engine and engine cooling), which he believed to be the cause of the failure.a police report was filed.the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified, just his insurance company.the current and failure mileages were approximately 100,000.
Have a 2003 dodge durango 79,000 miles while driving oil pressure dropped tozero. Check gauge light came on afterwards. Took vehicle to two different repair shops both stated we needed a new engine. They said we needed a new engine due to oil sludge build up resulting in engine failure. Looked online only to find hundreds and hundreds of the same complaint on dodge durangos with low mileage. This obviously is not an isolated incident. There is a problem with the engines that people need to made aware of anddodge should be the ones to fix the problem.
The cooling and heating system in the rear of the vehicle has given way. Only the front of the vehicle has a/c working. Will take vehicle to dealer to address problem.
While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle overheated.suddenly, driver heard a loud noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent shop.the mechanic determined that the thermostat was not working properly, dealer has been notified. Please provide further information. *la
Sudden engine failure while driving.
The contact owns a 2002 dodge durango. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to sputter and function with resistance. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the diagnostic test confirmed that the engine had a slush like oil build up. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced at his expense for $6500. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 47,000.
I own a 2003 dodge durango, and have always provided proper maintenance for the vehicle - oil changes, tune-up etc.on july 4, 2010 i started the vehicle and noticed a tapping sound and the oil light started flashing.i had the vehicle towed to an auto repair facility, only to find out that there was a muddy sludge build up in the oil pan which was clogging the oil pick-up screen.the vehicle only has 70k original miles on it and has had regular oil changes and i don't believe that should have happened.upon checking various, i noticed that there was a pattern with sludge build up in this particular vehicle.i believe that the auto manufacturer should recall these vehicles and recognize and rectify the problem.
2001 dodge durango the engine has gone out at only 46,000 miles .i have changed my oil every 3000 miles but dodge nor the extended warranty company will take care of it .oil system failure.
Dt:the contact stated while driving an indicator light came on. Also, the vehiclemade a loud noise. The engine locked.was then able to pull off the road without incident and checked the motor.the vehicle was then towed a dealership , who determinedthat the defect was the oil pickup in the engine, that caused it to lock.the dealership told the contact that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle has been in a repair shop for 4 months.
Rocker arm comes off. Researching on the internet this is a common problem. How many people does it take to get killed due to rocker arm coming off and stopping in traffic? i do not understand why this problem continues with no action. Inoticed one of the questions on this website ask if there were any injuries or deaths. I guess a number of these must happen before anything is done.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.while idling, the engine would stall and the vehicle would jerk and surge forward at low speeds.occasionally, the vehicle would shut off and then restart minutes later while idling.the contact noticed that the check engine light would illuminate during the failures.he took the vehicle to the dealer on several occasions and they replaced the nvld pump vacuum canister, the cam sensory, and the split hose solenoid canister.the check engine remains illuminated on the instrument panel.the failure mileage was 27,711 and current mileage was 42,000.
Sludge build up occurred in the dodge durango.*mrthe dealer informed the consumer that there was sludge in the engine and that it was as a result of neglect which then voided the warranty.the consumer explained that the vehicle oil had been changed numerous time by non-dealer mechanic.the dealer nor manufacturer provided any financial assistance.the consumer had the engine replaced by a local repair facility. The consumer's vehicle was making noise in the front end.
Whileapplying brakes vehicle continued to stall.as a result, the vehicle lostpower.dealer stated they were not able to duplicate the problem.the consumer came to a stop to let oncoming traffic pass.the consumer put foot on the accelerator and noticed the vehicle had stalled with no warning while the headlights where still on.on other occasions headlights would dim and then get brighter as the vehicle spit and sputtered for 15 seconds.the consumer had 4 co-pilots installed and was not able to hold the recordings.the vehicles left front speaker was not working.the rear hatch light will not stay in because the retainer clips broke.the vehicle had anoil leak.the transmission is not shifting properly in the vehicle.*tc
Dt: the contactowns a 2003 dodge durango. His vehicle stalls while idling and at low speeds.took vehicleto the dealer, but since the problem is intermittentdealercan't figure out the cause of the problem. The dealer tried to see if the problem would occur, butproblem didn't occurfor about six months.the technicianindicated thathe had never heard of this problem.in june 2005 the service rep said that dodge was aware of idle/stalling problems and may be working on engine transmission software fix on engine performance computer.*sb
While driving my 2003 dodge durango in which i am financing the vehicle since 2007 april, without warning my oil light came on and the car started to shake and the engine was banging really bad. The engine died on me., i was stuck on a bridge with 6 children 100 miles from home. The vehicle was well maintained and how could this happen. Now i am stuck paying for a truck that i can not use.
Have a 2003 dodge durango.was driving down the highway when it sounded like something fell off the car the car was immediately pulled over and there were flames coming from under the engine.the car quickly became total engulfed in flames and burned up.the car is a 100% lose.
Front suspension - drive train - locks - axle - power steering pumpvehicle has had consistent front end grinding noise since 30,000 km's. Ball joints have been replaced, front axle spyder gears have been replaced. Previous 1998 durango had same problem - fix was front wheel bearings. 2003 durango - dealer says that it doesn't require replacement. Noise and grinding only happen at slow speed turns left or right. From stop to light acceleration to hard left or right turn, new noise from rear axle - limited slip unit now getting louder. Axle oil and limited slip additive have been replaced with factory chrysler oil additive.indicative of same problem with 1998 durango that i had, when rear axle pinion bearing was heavily scored. In that incident the same maintenance was done, but repair was out of warranty by 3,000 km's and chrysler only paid 50% of repair of $700.00. Oil changes on complete drivetrain was $590.00 (4x4 with skid plates).this appears to be a metal fatigue problem in combination with engineering specifications that are too wide in tolerances, which allows failure of components to compound problems and create longer term damaging results. Ever since dodge trucks went to maintenance free front axle bearings (you can't pack bearings with grease), poor limited slip tolerances in rear axle, and transfer case that's electronically operated, the drivetrain and front suspension components have excessive loads and poor quality components.both durangos that i've owned have had 5 wheel alignments (constant pulling to the left) and no off road driving. Strictly highway and city driving. I purchased factory extended warranty on 2003 durango which i highly recommend. So far, out of pocket expenses have been minimal, but durango spends too much time in the shop and is very inconvenient to have serviced constantly.never had issues with warranty parts or dealer not doing warranty recall work.
My daughter was driving my dodge durango when power was lost.she was barely able to get it to the side of the road.she called me very upset as she had just started driving only about one year before this happened.i had her sit with the truck and try to start it again.she was able to get it started and moved about 20 feet to a more secure area along the road.she was on a very busy road, a1a in indialantic, florida.needless to say she was very upset and afraid.my youngest daughter was with her at the time and she was very upset as well.both could have been injured when the truck lost power.
I purchased a used 2003 dodge durango in march 2004 with 21,448 miles from enterprise rent a car.on 9/24/04 i took the vehicle to sheehy dodge in upper marlboro, md for a check engine light problem.the code was p0440, which is for a general evaporation system failure and they replaced the purge solenoid. On 9/30/04 i took the vehicle back to sheehy, as the check engine light came back on.sheehy's advisor contacted me later that day and said the light was not on and there were no trouble codes displayed, (the light was on when i arrived at sheehy that morning). I was told if the light came back on to bring it straight back, which i did again on 10/6/04.this time the same code came up as the first visit, p0440 and they replaced the l.d.p. Leak datec pump. Then again on 11/8/04 the light came back on again and i took it back to sheehy. This time the code was also for an evaporation leak and they replaced the gas cap. On 11/23/04 the check engine light came on again. I have another appointment scheduled with sheehy on friday, 11/26/04 to find out what the problem is again.during this period, i have driven approximately 500 miles, as my commute to work is only 2 miles. I am at my wits end right now, as this will be my 5th time in two months that this check engine light has come on. I would like to know how many other 2003 dodge durango's are experiencing this same problem and how many more times i can be expected to have to return to dodge service facilities before this problem will be permanently corrected.
As a follow up to odi # 10100538, since my initial complaint filed on on november 25, 2004 sheehy replaced the evaporation canister on my vehicle.on january 5, 2005 the check engine light came on once again.my vehicle is currently back in sheehy's shop.they now tell me that the gas tank needs to be replaced and that the vehicle is not safe to drive as the evaporation leak is excessive coming from the gas tank.they have put me in a rent a car until the new gas tank comes in.i haven't put 5,000 miles on it yet, it has less than 26, 000 miles on it and has been in the shop 6 times since i purchased it in march 2004 (purchased as a used vehicle). I want to know what recourse i have as everything done to this point has failed and i am afraid that once the gas tank is replaced that i may be in danger of something else failing in which case i may not be so lucky to live to tell or report it to anyone.
I took my vehicle in to the dealer for an oil change and was told there is metal in the differential and my warranty had expired, the differential had components in it that came apart and shattered they have to be replaced the mechanic still has the vehicle and i believe i can get the old parts

Dt*:the contact stated the air conditioner has never worked properly since purchasing the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions for repairs.the air temperature that comes from the vent is 56 degrees.according to the owners manual the air temperature should be 42 degrees. The dealer stated the door flap that separates the heater and air conditioner gets stuck mid way causing the air to be too warm. Updated 04/19/06.
While sitting invehicle with the engine running power windows and air conditioner stopped working. After several minutes, power to the air conditioner and windows returned.dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.

The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The right side of the vehicle was repaired due to body damage and the contact was told that the right turn signal was not working. The windshield wipers, headlights and turn signals also stopped working. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the central timing module failed. Recall campaign number 02v322000, exterior lighting: headlight switch was related tot he failure; however, the manufacturer stated that the vin was not a part of the recall. The failure mileage was 81000 and the current mileage was 84000.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he heard clicking noise coming for the right side of the instrument panel. The contact then noticed that the headlights were flicking on and off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would contact him at a later date. The failure mileage was 145,000 and the current mileage was 165,000.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that the automatic key fob failed and all of the interiors warning lamps were illuminated. In addition, the contact mentioned that the all of the gauges were providing erroneous readings. The head lights had also failed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the central timing module was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 02v322000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 104,230.

1. The headlights, parklights, foglights, interior lights, door lock switch, 4wd, key fob, or intermediate wipers would not work at all. Luckily the vehicle was at a low speed and not in motion on a highway when the incident took place.2. It only occurred one time, but what if i had been driving on the roadway.3. The central timer module (ctm) was replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. While driving approximately 20 mph, the headlamp flickered on and off. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the central timer module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that the front headlights were too low to properly see the roadway when driving at night. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was advised that the central timer module on the vehicle was failing and was also under recall. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 02v322000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch).the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 155,632.
2003 dodge durango: after about 15 minutes of driving we hear clicking noises and see lights (exterior and interior) flickering.starts with just a few clicks and flickers and then became worse the longer we drive.took it to a shop, they couldn't find a problem.happened again a week later (vehicle not driven much at night) and returned to shop.still couldn't find a problem so they researched and found multiple similar complaints regarding the central timing module.checked with the dealership, ours not covered under the recall.dealership said $550 to fix.this is not the first (or second, third, fourth, or fifth) problem we've have with this vehicle.
First the key fobs stopped unlocking the doors then the lights stopped workingwas told that the central timer module was defective and that the dealer would replace. Chrysler denies there is a problem with this module.
While driving my durango, my headlights flash on and off. This is very unsafe at night. This problem has been recalled on other durangos but mine was not included, though it is the same problem. I have taken it to a mechanic only to be told they can not fix it, i have to use a dodge dealer.
I have 2003 dodge durango, the central timer module was replaced in january 2010.the headlamps, interior lights started to flicker on & off.the left headlamp went to low beam. Driving at the night the lights would go low beam or completely turn off for about 5-10 seconds.i got off the highway and stayed on the access road until i reached home.
Wife driving home from work head lights flashed on and off and wipers front stop working on low just on high and back stop all together lights just work if drivers door is open took to dealer ship was told that the ctm was bad informed dealer ship that i say a recall on this was told not for my durango.

Dt:on september 18, 2005 one of the two straps that held the gas tank became unhooked. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer andthey said they have never seen this happen. Contacted chrysler, they were not concerned with this problem. This happened on a smooth paved road, it was not bumpy, no rain nor snow. Heard the strap scrapping on the highway and sawit dragging under the vehicle. The consumer had a mechanic install itand chrysler to make sure it was done correctly.

After removing ignition key from vehicle, owner returns to vehicle to find that ignition key will not stay in key slot or turn.vehicle is in park, but steering wheel lock doesn't engage properly, so steering wheel can be turned multiple complete revolutions (if you're strong enough, think non-power steering).at this point, vehicle is effectively disabled.striking the steering column with a rubber mallet directly on ignition key slot resolves problem temporarily. Based on my research (example here:http://forums.automotive.com/70/16154/dodge/1999-dodge-1500-van-key-wont-turn-in-ignition/index.html) this is a widespread problem that occurs on all dodge vans and suvs from 1999 to at least 2003 model year.this type of defect can result in driver being stranded in remote locations unexpectedly.while this might not seem like an immediate safety issue, it is certainly a manufacturing defect that dodge should be repairing for free.despite the fact that i can find hundreds of incidents of this defect occurring (sometimes up the 6-7 times on the same vehicle over the course of a single year) there is not a single tsb.chrysler should be forced to extend the warranty for this issue and repair for free.

I purchased a 2003 dodge durango slt on april 24,2003.when my vehicle hit 800 miles the locks started locking and unlocking all the time, whether the key was in the ignition or not.it has been brought to the topor dodge 2 times and the problem was unable to be fixed.it is now back in for the same problem.only now they just keep unlocking all the time.i have to leave it at topor til the problem is fixed because the doors won't stay locked and is a safety hazard.i work in springfield massachusetts and it is unsafe to take my own durango to work.it has been at the dealership since june 3,2003 and i have no idea how long i will be without my brand new durango.this is a safety defect that i know longer want to deal with.my durango now has 4200 miles on it and the problem still exists.
Intermittent locking/unlocking of doors without activating the power door lock switch.
Intermittent problems with the door locks -- lock/unlock on their own. It occurs while i am driving the vehicle (at any speed) and also occurs when the car is parked in the driveway (key is not in the ignition). I have been unable to pin point exactly what events trigger this to occur. The dealer had it for 8 days and was unable to reproduce the problem and returned the vehicle to me without any resolution.
On june sixth, my family and i were traveling south on i-95 during a heavy rainstorm. I lowered my speed to approximately 30 m.p.h. Due to the heavy rain when suddenly traffic slowed.i decelerated keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front and when i looked in my rear view mirror, i saw a blue ford ranger approaching.i realized that the vehicle approaching was not going to stop in time.the ranger struck our vehicle at approximately 30 m.p.h.our vehicle was still traveling forward so the impact was dissipated to approximately 25 m.p.h.the instant the vehicle struck ours, the rear hatch popped open depositing some of our luggage and articles onto the roadway where they were stuck by the vehicle that struck ours, damaging the items.my concern was that if i hadan unsecured occupant in the third seat, they might have been ejected from the vehicle.daimler-chrysler conducted their own investigation but to my dismay, they have obstructed me in every inquiry of the results of that investigation.i am requesting an official investigation in the hope that this can be corrected before there are any injuries.
Vehicle was in a rear end collision at 25/30 mph , on impact the rare hatch backpop open and luggage fell out. Body shop indicated that the impact wasn't' severe enough to release the hatch back.
I went to release the emergency brake on my car and the handle broke loose from the brake mechanism.the handle which is hinged to the dash board remained hanging from the dash board.
At an idle engine rev,s up and down, revs up enough to move the vehicle with the brakes on,transmission slipped a lot esp on the highway, will also drop into passing hear and speed up sometimes on its own. Very danerous to drive sometimes.speeds up by its self almost caused an accident.
Vehicle stalling.
This company claims to sell chrysler fluid that which almost killed my driver and me because of my disabilities and other issues and for using dexron fluid in their product. They are advertising this to other chrysler owners. I have research and locate a few documents where this company mislead me and used dexron instead of chrysler fluid atf4 which completely different dexron.transtar tried to pass the blame when my 2003 durango was working perfectly until using their fluid which cause my transmission to overheat and destroy it. I only asking them for filter. They claim to be expects in transmission and who knows who else that sell this bad product to other chrysler/dodge owners. Https://www.transtar1.comin the letter from transtar they upfront admitted fault of using the wrong product as they claim its good for chrysler/dodge, when it has not.
Truck will not go into park.
The contact called on behalf of his mother who owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact state that while his mother was driving 55 mph, the vehicle downshifted to first gear without warning temporarily and then returned to normal operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Leith chrysler jeep (5500 capital blvd, raleigh, nc 27616, (919) 867-5907) was contacted and informed the contact that the vin was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
My dodge durango will not go into park, will shift without applying the brake and will not start unless vehicle is in neutral - i have had the transmission rebuild and the pcm changed and the problem is still there. I have taken it to two different mechanics and no other problem can be found that would cause this from happening. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle and i do not have any more money to have a dealer take a look at it to see if they know what is wrong.
I am driving 2003 dodge durago. On 3-12-04, i went to a car wash. I shift the lever to n, and the prndl showed the n position. When the wash done, the dye started, i felt the car was going backward. I did not know what was happening until i hit the car behind me. The car wash mechine stopped, i notice that the prndl was illuminating half of the r, the car was changed to reverse! the similar thing happend before. One time i was driving on the local road(45 mile/hour), in a sudden, i heard strange load noise, then i saw the prndl showing "2" instead of the "d". Another time, the gear was changed from "d" to "n" when i was driving.
2003 dodge durango 2wd slt has had tranny failures consisting of electronic coil packs that control the band lock-up intranny failing to engage or disengage. This problem has caused my spouse to be stuck several times and in several different places. I have found that the cost and the available procedure to fix it is to put another tranny in it with possibilities of same problems.
I currently have 65,000 miles on a 2003 dodge durango slt plus.this vehicle is 4x4 and has never been used for towing.i was getting a knocking noise in the front end at anything over 2700 rpms.also, iwas having a drastic lose of power on this durango as well.i took it to my transmission mechanic and it was found to be trouble in the transmission.i am having to get the transmission rebuilt already at 65,000 miles.
Transmission disengages when accelerating. Dealer rep couldn't find anything wrong and said they had not received any service bulletins regarding the problem.
Consumer called about having problems with the transmission. Hestatedthat the vehicle was parked with the ignition on,it reversed by itself without switching the gear into reverse. Manufacturer was contacted and stated that they are aware of the problem but no investigation is out yet. *ph
I currently own a 2003 dodge durango.since i have purchased it in february 2003 it has been in the shop several times.the rotors have been replace twice, the rear end twice and now the transmission slips into neutral while driving.this can be very dangerous.i owned a 1999 durango and had nothing but problems with it.the steering column had to be replaced a few times and the ball joints.the transmission also had done the same thing.dodge could never find anything wrong with that durango and cannot find anything wrong with this transmission.the last durango the transmission slipped into neutral while crossing over lanes with oncoming traffic coming right at me.again, the dealer could find nothing wrong with it.same with this one.i am requesting that daimler-chrysler and williamsburg dodge refund my money and take the truck back.they recently had my durango for 15 days.the first 10 days the district manager, james brown, and shane lockhart, dealers tech manager, argued that my camper weighed too much.i gave them evidence that my camper only weighed 4295 lbs.daimler-chrysler sells the durango boasting it can tow 7400 lbs.after i filed a complaint with daimler-chrysler, james brown said he made a mistake on the weight.now, they want to inspect my camper for faulty breaks.they are saying somehow it is causing stress on the durango.give me a break!!!i have had my camper inspected.surprisingly, the place where i have gone says they get this a lot from dodge owners.do we see a pattern?they also get a lot of requests for dodge owners to have transmission coolants put on their dodges.what does this tell us?consumeraffairs.com tells a lot about dodge.we need something to be done with daimler-chrysler.*ph

- the contactowns a 2003 dodge durango with an odometer reading of 58132 miles. The contact stated that the upper and lower ball joints had been replaced twice. The contact took the vehicle to thedealer, and they told the contact that this vehicle was not covered by recall 04v596000 . The contact stated that thevehicle should be included under the recall becauseit was having the same failure.the consumer stated the cv joint failed again. Updated 03/30/07.
I took my vehicle in to the dealer for an oil change and was told there is metal in the differential and my warranty had expired, the differential had components in it that came apart and shattered they have to be replaced the mechanic still has the vehicle and i believe i can get the old parts

While driving 20 mph rear driveshaft dropped to ground, causing vehicle to come to a complete stop. Took vehicle to dealership, but the problem had not been resolved.consumer's wife sustained a black eye, lacerated lip,and mid back pain for which she's going to physical therapy for.consumer experienced whip lash, and his 9 year old daughter sustained lower back pain. His son was shaken up. As of 10/21/03, nothing had been done. *ph
2003 durango customer states that since the purchase of the car, it shifted into 4 wheel drive low while driving**ccthe consumer states that the vehicle is under warranty andhas been taken to the dealer 4 separate times for repair and the last time they were chargeda diagnostic fee and the problem is still unresolved.
My wife had our 2003 durango in to the local dodge dealer for service one morning a few weeks ago, since it would not come out of 4 wheel drive and was steering funny and vibrating/clunking.they told her it was still under waranty and a part would have to be ordered (transfer module) for the control of it but it was ok to drive till it came in and could be replaced.none were available and cleveland showeded them on back-order.my wife drove to oil city, pa to pick up parts for me and it caught fire on the way ( she had talked to the dealer a few minutes earlier on her cell phone as the problem was getting worse and they assured her it was ok).she had to pull over and call 911.the fire and police were quick in responding and the fire was put out after a total loss of the vehicle.now the dealer won't do anything about it.my wife could have easily been killed.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. While the vehicle was parked, the driver side seatbelt was beginning to wear. The dealer stated that the contact would be responsible for repair costs. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.
Dodge durango 2003 brought october 2003. On october 21, 2004 while on my way to work (a local high school), a woman fell asleep and hit the durango from behind on the passenger side. The vehicle crossed the oncoming lane of a two-lane minor highway (rte 187) and went into the front yard of a home and hit a tree. Speed limit is 35. The front passenger nose of the durango impacted with the tree. The damage to the vehicle was deemed totaled by the other driver's insurance company (state farm). The item we wish to draw to your attention is that the damage to the car involved the suspension rod, which came off and up through the front passenger seat of the carand through the roof. Had anyone been sitting there they would have most certainly been skewered. Thankfully, i had just dropped my children off . My 16 year old normally sits up front. One should note that the front tire came off the vehicle completely as well. The shoulder part of the seatbelt did not lock and my upper body was allowed to bang around. I spent 4 days in the hospital and was out of work for 5 weeks. I am still only on light duty due to the condition of my knee and the post concussion syndrome i am having. The way the durango came apart seemed unusual, especially the rod throught the floor and seat. We wanted you to be aware. We have pictures of the vehicle after the accident.
Front seat belts don't release on my 2003 dodge durango. When seatbelts are worn and engaged the locking device won't disengage. I have to giggle, rattle and pull on the mechanism for the seatbelt to unlock. The defect has been occuring for months and is continous. The problem has not been corrected.
Dt: contact stated the driver'sseat beltlockedand jammed. This was an ongoing problem for 3 weeks. Dealer said they could not service it. Chrysler was going to send hersome papers, and she could take the papers to the dealer and they would fix vehicle.this was on july 28, 2005,and should receive the papers any day.
-the contact owns a 2003 dodge durango with an odometer reading of 50000 mileson it.the contact complainedthat the rear seat belts didnot retract. The contact stated that the seat belts only retracted 1 out of every 10 times.shetookthe vehicle to the dealer, and they told her that she would have to pay for the repair.
The back seat seat belts do not have a locking mechanism.child seats are very difficult to install properly.
Consumer called complaining about having problems withrear seat belts. Manufacturer was not contacted at the time of this call. Dealer was contacted, andreplaced the seat belts, but consumer didn't know which parts.
Takata recall: electric power front seats move front to rear, when you stop and then accelerate.
The drivers side seat in the vehicle moves forward and backwards while starting and stopping, and occasionally while driving approximately 1 inch. It is called a "rocking" seat as described by hundreds of dodge durango owners online and in dodge forums. It cannot be fixed, it needs to be replaced. The seat movement is distracting and potentially dangerous. I am afraid the problem will get worse, to the point that the vehicle will be un-driveable. Help! i am the only owner of this vehicle and have taken great care of it.thank you.
The front drivers seat rocks back and forth on the tracks and is extremely loose. I have only 89000 miles and it started around 48000 miles. Totally disappointed with dodges quality and worry about issues with safety.
While driving, i noticed that when i accelerate after braking, the driver seat slides back and forth about an inch. Also, when i'm at a red light, with my foot on the brakes the vehicle accelerates. Both of these are very serious and dangerous issues and should be recalls.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)owners of 1999-2003 dodge durango owners are reporting a problem with the front power seats.many owners experience a "rocking back and forth" of the seats when accelerating and stopping.my vehicle has this problem.it turns out there is a "washer" that keeps the rod that connects to the power seat motor unit under the seat.there is a hex shaped washer that holds the rod in place. This hex shaped washer snaps and breaks off. The result is a whip-lash type jerk when coming to an abrupt stop.the dealerships are aware of the problem as it is common and suggest that the cost of repair can be anywhere from $500 to $700 for part and labor.the fix suggested by dealerships is to replace the motor, though it is the hex nut holding the rod from the motor that is the culprit.the fix simply requires a new hex washer which is connected to the seat bracket along with new bolts.this is potentially a very dangerous defect in that in an accident or emergency braking the driver and passenger is whipped forward and back which can cause injury to the neck and back. Attached are links to a site which describes a fix to the problem and another link, which is one of many on the web, which illustrates concerns and complaints on this problem. I have a 2003 dodge durango in which i have had problems with the front seat housings.this is the plastic component that is supposed to protect the wiring of the electric seats.this is also where the actual seat adjustment controls are located.i have had two of the housings replaced already and i need to have each one replaced again.i asked the service department about it and they said that they had replaced many of the same components but at this time chrysler would not pay for the repair.it would seem to me, that with normal wear that this piece should not crack and have to be replaced at all; yet i need to replace each component again - at my cost.
While the consumer lifted up the seat and pulled the lever downhis thumb became caught in metal bracket hinge.
- the contact stated that after drivingthe2003 dodge durangowith 34000 failure mileage a short distance she parked the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes, then returned to the vehicle, openedthe driver'sside door, and noticed that the driver's seat was on fire.the entire vehicle became engulfed in flames.the vehicle was destroyed.
While vehicle was parked a fire started underneath the driver's seat. The fire was put out.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that he noticed a leak from the brake lines. Upon further inspection he noticed corrosion of the brake lines. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where all of the brake lines were replaced. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired.the failure and current mileage was 95,000. Updated 8/12/13 the consumer stated rust resistance lines were installed on the vehicle. Updated 09/05/13
The drivers side wheel, hub assembly axle bearing front suspension broke off. Completely broke off. Extremely dangerous and seriously danaged
I have had 3 wrecks . 2 i hit deer head on the last, my brakes failed steering failed as i skid and i hit a tree in feb 2013.at no time did my airbags inflate.i wore my seat belt on all 3 occasions not injured except lower back pain every once in a while.
I was hearing noises coming from the rear of my vehicle.took it to a local dealer that told us the entire rear end needed to be rebuilt.apparently there is a defect in the axles that make the pinioned, differentials and axles to go bad.paid 3500.00 for the repairs to turn around and have the same thing happen just over a year later.
Hub or ball joints
2003 dodge durango - vibration occurred when braking. At approx. 11,000 miles dealer replaced all four brake rotors.following replacement of rotors breaking capability decreased significantly. Vibration re-appeared at 24,000 miles. Front brake rotors replaced again.now at 30,000 miles vibration has re-appeared. I took the durango to a local garage since dealer was saying no problem with braking capacity. Local garage indicates front rotors need turned again and also that rear brake calipers do not appear to be working.
While driving approximately 45 mph, the consumer applied the brake pedal and the vehicle failed to stop completely and rear ended the vehicle in front of his.both frontal air bags did not deploy.however, the driver and one other passenger sustain minor injuries.the vehicle was towed to a body shop for inspection. The cause has not been determined at this time. Please provide further details.
Steering failed when making a left hand turn.*mrboth upper ball joints were replaced.while driving the brake light illuminated.the dealer replaced the anti lock control module and the master cylinder.

Whiledriving at 45 mph there was severevibration in the front end of thevehicle.also, front brake problem,it took longer to stop.dealer notified.
When attempting to apply brakespedal proceeded to the floor, causing vehicle to lose control.
Had the ball joints replaced on a 2003 dodge durgano and brake pads replaced and truck is still riding and handling badly.dealers do not take the problem serious.what can i do.
On dec 10 i was driving well below the posted speed limit of 35 mph.with all the chirstmas traffic and the light rain falling i was being what i thought extremely careful.the vehicle in front of me was at least 5 car links ahead.when that vehicle applied their brakes i immediately appllied mine and nothing happened.i tried to steer to the right to go around the vehicle which at this time had stopped in front of me and again nothing happened.even though the tires turned my 2003 durango would not follow.i slammed into the back of the vehicle in front of me.since i am a widow with 3 children one of which is handicapped i only collect social security.now my 2003 durango is sitting in my drive way and i am unable to drive it.also the ball joints i am having trouble with prior to the accident just like everybody else.i think dodge owes me to repair my vehicle from the accident and also the ball joints at no charge.i can not believe they would put unsafe vehicles on the road.they should step up to bat and show some true customer service.
While applying the brake pedal vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the brakes needed to be replaced, and replaced them three times. On 04/2004 at 9029 miles, they said replaced brake pads with heavier ones and turned the rotors and that would take care of the problem.on 03/2005 19356 miles, they said replaced the calipers which sticking. Brake pads again and turned rotors again.headlights dim when rolling down power windows.
My front brakes have been changed twice, and i only have 52,000 miles on it.the brakes are now squeaking horribly, mixed with a grinding noise.my other vehicle is heavier than the durango, has more mileage, and i haven't had to change the brakes once.something seems wrong with the wear of the durango brakes.
Vibration in front end of suv.the vibration occurs when driving. Dealer states this is normal also vibrates when braking i am a service mgr. For farm dealership and deal with complaint everyday this is not normal problem with suv but one that has been ongoing from the day the truck was bought and now dodge and the dealer do not wont to repair this problem it has been to the shop 3 time going to different dealer this also had new tire installed at dealers request at my cost and had the tire balanced three times the vehicle has app 15,000 miles on now it is 2003 durango.
Consumer complained aboutfront end suspension problems, includingboth the upper and lower ball joints. Also, front brakes operated poorly.
While driving at any speedrear disc brakesquealed. Dealerexamined the vehicle on two occasions, and claimed that the system was working normally.
While driving vehicle was hopping when braking. First, at high speeds and now at any speed. Owner took the vehicle to the dealer, and was informed that the rotors were made of a different alloy which was not compatible to the brake pads, causing the rotors to warp.
While driving between 40 to 50 mph there was severe vibration in the front end of the vehicle. Dealerreplaced rotors. And pads, but problem recurred.
This problem happened more than once, and the consumer was concerned.while applying the brakes the pedal went to the floor , followedby a loud banging noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that both brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. Consumer informed the mechanic that this issuehad not been resolved.

When braking brake pedal pulsated. Vehicle was taking to the deale, anddealer replaced both front rotors.consumer was concerned that both rotors wore out prematurely at 16,000 miles.
Under 12,000 miles the front rotors were resurfaced. At 19000miles dealership resurfaced the rotors again.dealership indicated to the consumer rotors needed to be replaced or resurfaced onc emore.
Brakes vibrate/shudder when slowing down at around 40 mph.first serviced at 10130 miles.resurfaced rotors and replaced front pads.service noted there was a tsb for vibration but no recall yet.back to service for same problem at 17619 miles.rear rotors warped and both were cut.third time back for same problem at 21127 miles when i also took my durango in for rear hatch door not locking.they noted the problem with the brakes again but i was instructed to take back to original dealer since they were first to work on the brake problem.i have not made it back to the original dealer for the 3rd time for repair.

I bought my 2003 dodge durango new in april 2003. In less than 12,000 miles, i had to have the brakerotors replaced 2 times. It now has 18,000 miles on it and the rotors are bad again. Only this time, they are not covered under warranty. I paid over $30,000 for this vehicle. I don't think i should have to pay to have the brakes replaced 2 times a year. This is very dangerous. I am very concerned that i will lose my brakes and get hurt or hurt someone. I saw your service bulletin # 0500703, brake shudder or vibration. This is exactly what my durango is doing. I hope you can help with this dangerous situation.the exact dates that i have had the rotors replaced are unknown without checking with my dealer. The date below is an approximate for the last time. Thank you.
I have a 2003 dodge durango it goes through rotors about every 18000 miles.

When applying the brakes pedal pulsates and the steering pulls the vehicle off the road. The part has been replaced five times. However, the problem recurred.
I have had 3 wrecks . 2 i hit deer head on the last, my brakes failed steering failed as i skid and i hit a tree in feb 2013.at no time did my airbags inflate.i wore my seat belt on all 3 occasions not injured except lower back pain every once in a while.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.while attempting to make a right turn at 30 mph, the vehicle veered to the right.the contact experienced difficulty controlling the vehicle, but was able to drive to his residence.he took the vehicle to a repair shop the following day and they repaired the vehicle at the cost of $357.64.the failure mileage was 41,725. Updated 5/20/08 updated 05/20/08
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated when driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would sporadically become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic advised that the intermediate steering shaft had twisted and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer advised the vehicle was not under recall and would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned with the failure potentially leading to a crash. The failure mileage was 67,000.
Steering failed when making a left hand turn.*mrboth upper ball joints were replaced.while driving the brake light illuminated.the dealer replaced the anti lock control module and the master cylinder.
The steering column contains a universal joint which clicks whenever making a turn and causes the steering wheel to bind and then release suddenly which causes a degree of confusion and if not repaired could cause a major accident through the complete loss of controll or the vehicle by separation of the steering column. This clicking, binding and sudden release with a degree of confusion happens at all speeds including while sitting still!
The passenger side upper ball joint started coming apart at just 47,000 miles. I was lucky to catch it as it could have resulted in the whole wheel coming off the vehicle and a serious accident if at speed.typically ball joints wear before they fail and that is usually only after a hundred or a few hundreds thousand miles. To have a complete failure of the ball joint at just 47,000 miles is alarming. I discovered there was an issue and a silent recall of 2000-2003 durango's for this problem.i called dodge about the repair but they refused to fix it saying that even though my vehicle is a 2003,my vin was not included in the recall. My vehicle is the same year and same extraordinary and dangerous problem.
Power steering rack failed at 73,000 miles.unacceptable that the steering would fail with only 73,000 miles!!paid $900 to have repaired.this was 6 months ago.now they are saying our wheel bearings are failing and are not covered under the recall that was put in place back in 2004.even though the mechanic told us that our wheel would fall off if we didn't have it fixed.that should fall under the category of the recall for the wheel hub.
Front end problems with m 2003 dodge durango. Have had steering rack replaced, inner & outer ball joints replaced as well as both upper control arms. Steering went out on my wife while making a right hand turn. Both inner tie-rod ends snapped out and car lost complete steering control. Car ran into parked car causing substantial damage to both vehicles. Because of the low speed no injuries occurred, had this happened at highway speed.i could have been killed along with others on the highway. What are you waiting for? for a fatality? does it take the life of human being to save money to have this problem solved? please do something, i will never never buy a dodge automobile again and if i see someone making this mistake or looking at dodge i will advise them of all the problems that dodge has and are not willing to back their product. Buy a foreign car!!!!
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact was driving 35 mph when the power steering assist failed, causing increased effort in maneuvering the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the entire power steering system would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the recurring failure. The failure mileage was 77,832.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that the power steering fluid was severely leaking from the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle exhibited an abnormal grinding sound whenever the contact was driving around a bend or reversing at approximate speeds of 5 mph.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,375.
Turning into a parking lot and the front passenger side tire fell off. 1260.00.
Vehicle has been experiencing a progression of inaccurate steering, poor turning and suspension performance. Driver and passenger are noticing a "clunking" in the right passenger and driver's side front end. Noted primarily when turning. Steering wheel is also noted to be rotated off center to the clockwise position. Braking is also poor and causes vehicle to pull to passenger side.most importantly, vehicle is noted to feel unstable and is vibrating while at highway speeds.
Suv2003 dodge durango, went out of control which caused a big accident.*la
The front end of my 2003 dodge durango began to have a thumping noise. I could not identify what it was or exactly where it was coming from. On my way home from work, friday august 4,2006 i lost braking on the vehicle and the left front wheel became detached from the axle.i lost control of the vehicle, skidded and stopped in a residential neighborhood. Had this ocurred while i was in the mountains (which i am quite a bit) or on the interstate (which i am on every day) myself or others may have been killed. I could have struck a child in the neighborhood where this happened as well.
Vehicle was in motion on the highway and without prior warning.both front wheels locked up uponimpact. The vehicle started to bounce in the front end.as the consumer attempted to park, the front tire turned inward.the dealer reported that the bolt on the tie rod snapped. *scc
Durango ball joint failure twice. Replaced ball joint, steering rack with tie rod end. *tc
The vehicle jerked and vibrated while driving it.this occurred when in stop and go traffic.the vehicle has been tested and driven by the dealer and the manufacturer who stated it wasnormal. *tc
The consumer believes there is something wrong with the suspension and/or stability of the vehicle. While driving 70 mph on a windy day the consumer was unable to control the vehicle.the consumer was forced to reduce his speed to drive in the windy conditions.*ph
2003 dodge durango upper ball joint failed on interstate at 65mph.right front wheel and assembly seperated from vehicle causing single car accident ..skidded into guard rail.damage estimated at $10,000 plus by claims adjuster.nationwide insurance is subrogating against chrysler to recover money.ea03-023
The drivers side wheel, hub assembly axle bearing front suspension broke off. Completely broke off. Extremely dangerous and seriously danaged
After coming to a stop, i put my vehicle in park. While exiting, the engine started revving causing it to jump out of gear. This resulted in a crash into an apartment that could have turned out much worst.
When applying the brakes in a panic stop or wet or rough pavement.the pedal goes all the way down to the floor resulting in extended stoppingafter inspection of the vehicle by the dealer.it was determined that the ab braking pump has malfunction. Part are on national back order.

There is a recall for defective ball joints on the 2003 dodge durango, but when i called dodge my vin is not included.i am having my ball joints replaced by a repair shop today as i was told that they are in very bad shape and i am risking having them separate while driving which could result in the wheel falling off in a high speed situation causing a crash and possible injury or death.i feel that if this recall is only for some of the same year and model of my vehicle then they should at least have them all called in to have the dealer inspect them for safety.it is going to cost almost $1000 for me to have this repair made.but that is small price to pay to ensure the safety of me and my family.i have heard this complaint from many many other owners and repair shops for this vehicle and feel it should be looked into.
While drivingon a hill and making a right turn on a curb the vehicle leaned excessively to the right and almost rolled over. The dealer was notified and stated that the vehicle needed after market heavy duty shock absorbers.*nlm
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for tire replacement and front end alignment. The mechanic stated that the front passengers side hub was loose and needed to be replaced. In addition, the vehicle was unable to be aligned. The mechanic also stated that the ball joint on the front passenger side needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 08e064000 (suspension) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 219,700.
Bags. A police report was not filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, however the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, while driving at 35 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver as the brakes were depressed and fail to respond without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wheel bearings and wheel arms needed to be replaced. The wheel bearing was repaired but the wheel arm wasn't. The vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 08e064000(suspension). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000. Jo

The passenger side upper ball joint failed a mandatory state safety inspection.the ball joint showed excessive wear and was deemed unsafe.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that he heard an abnormal noise coming from the front of the vehicle and the hub was shaking violently.the failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08e064000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
We took the vehicle was to an independent mechanic for a front end alignment. The mechanic stated that the top and bottom ball jointsneeded to be replaced. In addition, the vehicle was unable to be aligned. The vehicle was not repaired.
I have notice a clunking sound in the front right of my durango for some approximately six months.i recently brought it to my mechanic who stated it would need to have the upper right ball joint replace.it was brought to my attention that this issue was recalled on other 2003 durango, however, my vin number was not included in the campaign (04v596000).this issue appears to go beyond the cut off for the recall since review of the complaints indicates numerous other similar issues.
2003 dodge durango.consumer writes in regards to vehicle front left wheel came off while driving. When the vehicle was put on a flat bed and delivered to the repair shop, he was informed the axle had no way to lubricate the wheel assembly and so when it was dry, it severed itself from the front end.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated while driving 55 mph there was a clanking noise in the front suspension. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who inspected the failure and noticed the ball joints were defective. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated there was a failure but his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v596000,suspension: front: control arm: upper ball joint. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 160,000.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact heard a popping sound and felt it through the driveshaft. In addition, the two front tires were worn on the inside tread. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who stated that both upper ball joints needed to be replaced. The contact took the vehicle to lake city chrysler dodge jeep ram (4325 w us hwy 90, lake city, fl 32055, (386) 755-3444) to verify the diagnosis. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 164,297.
Turning into a parking lot and the front passenger side tire fell off. 1260.00.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while exiting from a parking space, the front driver side wheel detached from the vehicle . The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the front ball joint was fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v596000 (suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 130,000.
Vibration of vehicle and front alignmen.
2003 durango has always had a bad bump steer problem (when a bump is hit, the car turns hard left or right).i have seen other durangos, dakotas with their wheel snapped at the tie rod.this could lead to many injuries or deaths.
Front ball joint making a clicking sound.in 2005 got a recall letter.called dealer and they said the recall didn;t effect my vehicle.called several times in the next year to see if the recall was on my vehicle yet.the dealer told me no.vehicle kept making clunking noise.at 100,00 miles i pulled in my driveway and the wheel feel of at the right ball joint.tow truck couldn't tow the vehicle due to being all wheel drive.i called chrysler and they told me it wasn;t their problem.i had to hire a mechanic to replace the ball joints in my driveway. Tires have worn terrible and truck kept coming out of alignment.i kept good rotation on the tires but couldn't keep the inside from wearing. I do have the defective ball joints.
On the 2003 dodge durango on highway drive it pulls to the right when you go past 65 mph. It shakes and pulls to either side. My rental went to the right other durangos on the high way went to the left.
When driving my 2003 durango at times it feels like the front wheels are locking up and the truck begins shaking badly.i have had it in the dealership and they say they can't find anything wrong.i also have been hearing strange noise from the front right right tire well.also, my glovebox started hanging down and when i asked the dealership to fix it they charged me and told me that the warranty would not cover it.we don't use the glove box, so the problem was not caused by misuse.at 20,000 miles the warranty should have covered the problem because it is obviously a defective part.
This will be the third time i take my 2003 dodge durango for front end noise and problems. The dealer says they couldn't duplicate the noise, but my family knows it's therewhen we drive and make turns. Why do we have to wait for an accident. Please help me fix this problem. Also2nd tme for check engine light, with in two months. Thank you
I noticed my tires were not wearing evenly and i felt and heard a "clunk" noise every time i back out of my parking spot at work.the dealership inspected and said that the upper and lower ball joints of the right and left wheels of my 2003 dodge durango must be replaced.i see there are recalls for all previous year durangos but not the 2003??? the dealership refused to pay for my replacement.i replaced the left side as they were actually broke, my right side still needs to be replaced and are loose and near failure.i request that dodge reimburse me for the repair as well as replace for free the right side.i would also like two new tires as they now need to be replaced due to the uneven wear and tear.

When turning there is squeaking noise in the front end. The noise is worse when the brakes are applied.sometimes the noise can be heard while driving. The dealershipserviced the vehicle 4 times, but was unable to duplicate the problem, so they aren't able to identify the cause.
While driving driving at any speedand when brakes are depressed vehicle will pull to the right or left.also, vehicleneeds constant realignment.
I have a 2003 dode durango with 11,841 miles and i already have problems with my wheel sounding like it is going to fall off.i have not taken it to the dodge dealership yet because i contact cbs news and they told me that you would want to see the car first.i also have a 1999 dodge durango with 69,000 miles and its not even drivable at this point because of the wheel.i took it to the dealership 2 weeks after i bought it and they fixed it which was in april, in august of the yeari had to put new brakes and roders on the car and at this point i'm afarid that the wheel will fall off.i can no longer afford to pay for this vehicle and fix it and the lien holder is about to take the vehicle.would you please contact me as soon as possible and let me know what i can do before i let the lien holder have the vehicle.
While drivingand turning left or right consumer heard noise coming from the front end.the dealer stated, to call nhtsa, and gave no further explanation.
Front suspension.
While driving vehicle pulled to the left. The steering wasloose. Tookvehicle to the dealer, and was told that the vehicle needed a front end alignment. However, the problem recurred.
We noticed popping in the front end took durango to dealer they replaced the lower control arm assembly, few months later it started popping again ,we took it back to a dealer and they had to replace both lower control arm assemblies. It has been about 4 months and it is popping again plus they sent us the recall on the upper ball joints. I am scared to let my family ride in this vehicle i believe it has serious problems in the suspension system that have been trying to fix two times and now this will be the third time and theres not even 30000 miles on it.
2003 dodge durango 27,500 miles-lower ball joints need replacing already-dodge expects me to pay for alingment after ball joints are repleaced. I don't think this is right. Ball joints do not normally go bad at this low mileage.
Whiledriving at 45 mph there was severevibration in the front end of thevehicle.also, front brake problem,it took longer to stop.dealer notified.
I purchased a 2003 dodge durango from bleecker dodge in dunn, nc.i have three complaints that i would like to put on file: fist complaint:my vehicle began to make terrible noises that required me to take it for service.the sounds were scraping noises coming from the steering components.i took the vehicle to the dealership and both the upper and lower ball joints were replaced.second complaint:during the cold weather months, i was warming my vehicle and had scraped the ice from my windshield.the defrost was on.while traveling down the road my windshield cracked.exact date of the incident is unknown to me but it was during one of our snows.it has left me with a cracked windshield.i have taken no steps as of yet to have it repaired.third complaint:even more recently, my "check guages" light came on.my vehicle shows no oil pressure.i cannot drive the vehilcle and the service department at bleecker will not be back in until monday.i am without a vehicle this weekend.this vehicle only has 35,000 miles on it and it has been plagued with problemssince it was purchased in october of 2003.
I am currently experiencing a thumping or throttle on thevehicle when i step on the brakes. It occurs in the front of the vehicleon driver's side. I have had the brakes replaced , but this noise still occurs. I have been advised by r&s strauss mechanic that it appeared to be the ball joint/arm. He has encountered many durangos experiencing this problem and advised to seek dealer for repairs since he wa s aware ofthe accidents that have occurred. Wanted to notify your office and other drivers if experiencing similar problems. It appeared that this defect neededto be recalled.
Recall 04v596000, consumer has a 2 wheel drive durango. This vehicle experiences the same problem withball joints as the 4 wheel drive. Consumer took vehicle to dealerseveral times regarding the ball joint problem. However, the problem recurred.....after repeated complaints warranty was extended, but dealer did charge d$300.00 for warranty workon defective wheel bearing.
My wife was driving on the highway, and noticed that our 2003 dodge durango was pulling to the right.10 minutes later, the lower ball joint completely separated, the upper ball joint snapped off, the axle separated and the wheel fell off while making a low speed right hand turn.the durango then continued to steer to the right and into a parked car, totaling the parked vehicle.the durango pushed the parked car into a wall.so far, nothing has been done to fix the failure, and my dodge dealer is giving me a hard time about warranting the part and subsequent damage.
The consumer took the vehicle in for routine maintenance.the mechanic informed the consumer that the left and right upper and lower ball joint needed replacement due to corrosion.please fill in additional information. Consumer was toldlower ball joints were not included in the recall.
Consumer complained aboutfront end suspension problems, includingboth the upper and lower ball joints. Also, front brakes operated poorly.

While driving my 2003 durango and started noticing some vibration in the front end so i took the vehicle in to get it checked and it appears the lower ball joints are bad. This is after i had the uppers replaced due to a recall. I am not sure how long these parts are guaranteed to last but i know i have much older vehicles that still have the original parts in them.sounds like they should have recalled more than just the upper ball joints.i am going to have them replaced but i think a failure after such a short time should also be investigated for a possible recall, perhaps checking the whole front suspensionwould be wise before someone is killed because something falls off the car.
Noise in wheel bearings: had to replace both front wheel hubs due to bad bearings. Was worried about safety and wheel locking up. Finally got replaced at ~89000 but started ~82000 miles as worried about safety and them locking up/falling off. Then was informed by the dealer that the upper and lower jointsneed replacing. Poor quality for american products as vehicle has only been on the road and in the south with good weather.
Steering failed when making a left hand turn.*mrboth upper ball joints were replaced.while driving the brake light illuminated.the dealer replaced the anti lock control module and the master cylinder.
Upper ball joints needed to bereplaciedevery six months!!!!!

Recall campaign 04v596000 concerning ball joint wear. Consumer was unable to get the dealer to honor the manufacturer's recall because no partswere available. Manufacturer was notified, andinformed the consumer that they were unable to advise him when the parts would be available.
Dodge durango axle and tire from the front passenger side broke off and crashed into the front of my vehicle; i believe the issue had to do with the upper ball joint of the dodge durango.
Independent mechanic noticed that the upper front ball joint in my 2003 dodge durango needed to be replaced due to circumstances surrounding the recall for this problem.both dodge and the local dealership refuse to correct problem stating that my vehicle was not part of the recall.
I noticed noise in the front end of my 2003 dodge durango and found that i had movement in my upper right ball joint, so i pointed this out during my annual safety inspection at the dealer. Both upper ball joints were found to be worn out during theinspection.the truck has only 28,000 miles on it and is driven a mix of highway and local driving....no off road use. The repair was covered under warranty.

Component:suspension:front:control arm:upper ball jointdefect summary:on my 2003 dodge durango sport utility their is a loud clunking noise in the front suspension. I call daimlerchrysler motors company llc to ask if their was a recall on my suv. They said no, but my upper ball joint is defective.
Premature wear of upper ball joints.replaced at 41,000 miles.
The reason i am filing a complaint is because the nhtsa has not updated their website according based on a voluntary recall by dodge.there was in article on msn.com today that described a recall of certain dodge durango and dakota models because of a problem with the front/upper ball joint.the nhtsa website lists 4 related defect investigations of this same problem, however all investigations were opened and closed in 2003 and there is no mention of the latest actions by dodge.this website should be updated so people wanted to find out more information and specific models of recalls can find that information.

Clunking noise in front suspension. Tires wearing unevenly.inspection by mechanic by finds worn upper ball joints on my 2003 dodge durango.joints have no lubrication and have corrosion because of this.i fear the excessive wear in the upper ball joint might cause it to separatewhich would result in the loss of control over my vehicle.dodge already has a recall on this defect but my durango was not included.all durangos with this problem should be included.it's a safety thing!!!

Pe 03-032/front suspension/upper ball joint failure:at any speed, consumer intermittently heard a semi scraping noise coming from the vehicle.consumer's mechanic was scheduled to give the vehicle a check up, but felt from the symptoms that it was the upper ball joints.
I own a 2003 dodge durango, with 62,501 miles on it.i recently failed state inspection due to bad ball joints.if chrysler knows they have prematurely failing ball joints they should issue a recall.now i will have to try and cover a $800 bill myself.
I own a 2003 dodge durango. I brought the vehicle in for an oil change at 41000 miles. I was told i had to replace my driver side upper control arm immediately because it was going to fall off.i heard no sounds from the front end prior to this event that would have lead me to suspect something was wrong. I travel on the highway almost daily with this vehicle and was very frightened being told my front tire was going to fall off. It cost over $500 to fix this. I do not have the old parts.
I purchased the vehicle in february of 2003. The vehicle was new with less than 100 miles. At approximately 15000 miles the vehicle began making a rubbing noise whenever driven over any bump. Took vehicle in to dealer and he informed me that it was the upper ball-joints. He then proceeded to order the wrong part. After a week the correct part finally got installed and the noise was no longer present. Dodge from top to bottom has lost my confidence not to mention my business.
I have had my 2003 durango back to the dealer 5 times for a rubbing/grinding noise in the right front end. I had read the reports of the failures and symptons of the ball joints.all 5 times the dealer has not re-placed the ball joints, the noise still exsists, i even took one of the service guys out in the truck, and he heard the noise.he even commented, that his 2003 dakota, had the same noise, and that he had to replace his front ball joint.they know what the problem is, yet they refuse to fix it.
Consumer too vehicle to dealer forroutine maintenance, andmechanic determined that the front driver and passenger upper ball joints needed to be replaced.
Occasional driving of vehicle transporting a toddler and an infant.
While driving at high speeds driver heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front.suddenly, the vehicle pulled to the right.the cause has not been determined at this time.
Ball joint malfunction on dodge durango slt 4x4.my durango is not listed on the recall as 600k others are however the noises, and unnatural movements of the front end during close quarters turning is suspect of being the same problem.my car is also not keeping its alignment and the brakes have softened rapidly, i suspect all are related.no loss of control has occurred but i'm concerned and i want to report my vehicle and plan to have it inspected by my dealer, westboro dodge.
The consumer took the vehicle in for routine maintenance.the mechanic informed the consumer that the left and right upper and lower ball joint needed replacement due to corrosion.please fill in additional information. Consumer was toldlower ball joints were not included in the recall.
I purchased a 2003 dodge durango. Within 20 minutes of completion my 1st tire blew out. The dealer (clear lake dodge, houston, texas) replaced the tire free of charge. At approximately 12k on a trip to new orleans my right front tire blew out and i almost lost control of vehicle. My youngest son suffers from asthma and had an asthma attack on i-10 to new orleans. I calmed him down with no medication (nebulizer requires electricity). When i returned to houston, i contacted discount tire which warranties goodyear tires and was informed that i had jumped a curb causing damage to my tires. I purchased my 3rd tire along with road hazard because all representatives blamed my driving habits on me, even though i have never experienced these problems before. My vehicle now has over 50k miles and all of my tires are wearing. The belt is showing on all 4 tires. I am seeking arbitration.
I bought a used 2003 dodge durango on 2/28/2004. It ran fine for a few days. The front end was not performing as it should. This only has 27,000 miles on it so i thought it needed an alignment. I made an appointment at my mechanic as alignments are not covered under warranty. The day before i was to take it to him the cbs news showed a story on dodge durango's and the upper ball joints. I asked our mechanic to check these also. He found the left side worn and the right side was to the point that it needed to be replaced. I called the dealer ship that it was purchased at and of course they head mechanic stated they knew nothing about it. After my husband mentioned the news story and what our mechanic found, they still tried to say it must be the bearings. The service department was very rude to him even thought it was under warranty. He insisted they be replaced. My husband was a mechanic buy trade so he knows what he is talking about. I feel sorry for the people out there that are not aware of this.our appointment is on 3-9-04. We will of course take the car back to the independent mechanic to inspect they replaced what was wrong. We have been dodge owners for over 20 years and i can not believe something this serious is being hidden by them. They have lost my vote of confidence in reliability. They did not check the durango prior to selling it, otherwise they would have seen the problem immediately. I am afrid to drive my own car for fear of something bad happening. This is a very serious matter and after reading all the complaints from 2002 and on, why is this not being addressed with chrystler? we rely on your service as an independent and we need your backbone in making this a recall issue. Please take this as serious as we all do. Thank you.
Consumer complained aboutfront end suspension problems, includingboth the upper and lower ball joints. Also, front brakes operated poorly.
On january 26, 2004,our 24 year old son, brant, was driving our 2003 dodge durango on i-85 near commerce, georgia.time2:00 am.. Road conditions cold & rainy.for unknown reasons, the right/front tire and mechanical assembly (ball joints.. Everything) came off the car causing him to skid into right side guard rail.nationwide insurance estimated damage in excess of $12,000.the durango is 10 months old with approximately 17,000 miles on the odometer.we contacted chrysler corporation requesting a buyback.. Or return of our money less reasonable mileage allocations.we feel the product is defective and now seriously damaged beyond reasonable repair.chrysler denied our claim, refused to issue copies of reports they used for their denial, simply opting for reasons unknown to discuss the issue any further.
I have been hearing a weird rubbing noise on the front right of my dodge durango. Before i could take it in to get worked on, i ran over a small pot hole. The upper ball bearing joint broke. I was told that your organization is doing an investigation. Can you help? or can i help?*la
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. A local auto body shop mechanic stated that her upper ball joints had 0.10 movement and advised her that they should be replaced. She notified an authorized dealer in reference to recall# 04v596000 for the suspension. A technician stated that her vin was excluded from the recall; therefore, she would liable for the repair. 1. 2003 dodge durango started popping in front end when making sharp turn.also had problem with rear squeeking and vehicle was going into lower gear while traveling down the road when it shouldn't.also was idling low.3.both ball joints worn out at 20,626 miles.lubed bushings and spring pads in rear.couldn't determine what was causing the vehicle to go into a passing gear and was told to just push on the gas and hope the engine would blow up.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.when the contact took her vehicle to her local mechanic for an alignment, the mechanic discovered that the upper ball joints on the passenger side caused the failure.the contact was also informed of a possible recall on her year, make, and model vehicle.the dealer stated that her vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 04v596000 (suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint).the failure and current mileages were 83,000.updated 05/08/08.*ljupdated 05/09/08

The stabilizer bar on the 2003 dodge durango was coming out causing the vehicle to produce a grinding noise. *mr the grinding noise was coming from the driver side front wheel.the consumer inspected the hub and found that the inner axle had grinding wear on the inside by the rubber boot.the stabilizer bar was coming out about 1/4 inch.the dealer suggested that they didn't hear anything and could not find a problem.currently, the front end still wobbles and grinds when the vehicle is in motion and when stopping. *sc the windshield wiper module was replaced.

Hit a severe bump in road which broke the steel cable that holds the spare tire under the car body.cable was likely corroded.tire discharged from under the vehicle, struck pavement, and bounced 15-20 feet into the air repeatedly nearly striking the vehicle following me.luckily tire ended up in ditch before causing accident.retaining clamp is lost.suspect the potential for this situation exists with any durango or dakota of this vintage.
The spare tire was smaller than the tires on the vehicle. *ph
I noticed that my right tire was loosing it was tread.i thought that i could just take it in for a wheel allignment, but the shop said that it was a worn out upper ball joint.it is going to cost me around $800.00 to fix it.i am over on my warranty by 1000 miles and when i call daimlerchrysler they said that there was a pending investigation on this matter, but do not offer any inforamtaion. I then noticed on the internet where others are having the same problems.i think that since there are so many complaints and so many of us owners of the dodge durango there should be a recall into this matter.ball joint problems should not be a problem until 100,000 miles at least.
1. The headlights, parklights, foglights, interior lights, door lock switch, 4wd, key fob, or intermediate wipers would not work at all. 'a search warrant for blood was obtained and results are pending.'following the impact, the durango flipped onto its side and caught fire, however, two citizens were able to extricate the driver from the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office
I have a 03 dodge durango with about 98,000 miles. I was taking my child to school and the oil pressure dropped to zero. I had it pulled to a shop. They have pulled the motor, checked it and the oil pump and pick-up tube. Everything looks good. They do not know what is wrong. I have been doing some research and everyone i have spoke to,say this has been a major issue with this motor.there is a lot of complaints on the internet with people in the same situation.we pay a lot of money for these vehicles and i don't know why something cant be done or why they cannot find something wrong. It is hard to continue to make your payments, not being able to drive the vehicle and then being told they don't know what it is but a new motor will be about $5000-$6000.00. I don't understand and don't know what to do!*tw
Rear air dont work from heat to cold . Turn head lights on the parks lights dont work
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while decelerating, the vehicle erroneously accelerated and crashed into the preceding vehicle. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and vin was not available.
My durango accelerates for no reason at all while it is stopped.it happens most frequently after going up a small hill in drive and then putting the car in reverse.when the car is put in reverse it accelerates.
At an idle engine rev,s up and down, revs up enough to move the vehicle with the brakes on,transmission slipped a lot esp on the highway, will also drop into passing hear and speed up sometimes on its own. Very danerous to drive sometimes.speeds up by its self almost caused an accident.
While driving on i 495 durango started accelerating without me pushing the gas pedal. It kept accelerating even when i pushed the brakes lightly. There were cars braking in front of me, and i was still accelerating.i had to press the brakes down to the floor and drive on the shoulder.once on the shoulder i pulled the emergency brake and turned the ignition off.
After coming to a stop, i put my vehicle in park. While exiting, the engine started revving causing it to jump out of gear. This resulted in a crash into an apartment that could have turned out much worst.
The cruise control was set at 65 mph, however the vehicle hit a bump and accelerated to 80 mph.the vehicle would also accelerate on its own when going over highway seams and bridges.the vehicle doesn't maintain a constant (set) speed and will vary from 5 mph and swap to regain set speed when going up long grade when engaged.scc
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that while driving there was a burning odor entering the vehicle as the blower motor stop running. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed that the resistor was defective and need to be replaced. Two months later, the failure recurred but and caused the wires to become completely melted. The contact added that the wiring became so hot that it burned to the touch. A repair kit was installed but it failed to remedy the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 148,000 and the current mileage was 154,000.
The contact stated that the heating and air conditioning controls failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for repairs, but a remedy was not provided to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
The blower motor resistor keeps burning out. Constantly have to keep replacing the parts for the resistor. Why has this not been recalled yet?
The blower only works on the "high' setting.
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango. The contact stated that the blower motor harness fan became hot and melted the wiring. The contact activated the air conditioner but there was no response. The dealer was notified of the failure who informed him that he would have to purchase a kit and repair it himself. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,763.
2003 dodge durango and 2003 dodge caravan. Both vehicles have blower fan speed resistors that are burnt out. The vehicles have no heat to clear windshields of frost fogging or ice. I asked dodge world in clifton park new york if there was any recalls and they stated no. Too repair these vehicles the entire dash and air bag system has to be removed. These conditionsare extremely dangerous.
On 4/2/07, i had the driver side window regulator replaced. It broke while driving down the road, not in use at the time. On 4/28/07 it was replaced again. On 7/7/07 it was replaced again. On 7/23/07 it was replaced again. On 8/20/07 it broke again. This is an oem part, not an after market. I've spoken with several mechanics who said this is definitely a dodge issue. What do i do?
Driver's side automatic window is stuck ini the down position. The window will not go back up at all and electronic window mechanicism, is not making any sound of working. Car is parked in a garage, to prevent moisture damage, to inside of vehicle.
While sitting invehicle with the engine running power windows and air conditioner stopped working. After several minutes, power to the air conditioner and windows returned.dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.
In 2.5 years, i have put in 5 window regulators using original dodge parts in my 2003 dodge durango. A 6th one broke 10/13/09. This part is defective in that it breaks irregardless of usage, today a rear window broke which has maybe been used a dozen times since i purchased the vehicle. The driver's window was replaced three times within 60 days, because the brand new parts broke.dodge is well aware of this issue, because of the constant back order within their parts department and frequent consumer complaints well documented on the internet. Their paraphrased response to my complaint was too bad it's out of warranty.
Since the stalling the windows failed ,they did notgo up or down, the windshield wipers and headlights worked intermittently. The contact took thevehicle to the dealer, and the dealer could not tell them why the failureoccurred.
Both front electric windows in our 2003 dodge durango stopped working. As soon as i paid to have one window replaced; the other window failed. The passenger front window came down as i was driving over a bridge in a rainstorm. The rain pelted my children who were riding in their carseats in the next row of seats. As soon as i got off the bridge, i turned onto an exit and waited out the rain at a gas station.i still have not replaced the window. I have it braced up with a rubber screw driver; at least it is up now.

Problems with windshield wipers. The consumer was told that there was a recall and the relay switch was bad.the consumer was told that nothing could be done. *sc*
The contact owns a 2003 dodge durango.while driving in the rain the contact attempted to activate the front and rear windshield wipers, but they failed to operate.the dashboard lights failed approximately three weeks later.the vehicle was taken to a dealer twice and the dealer stated that the failure could be electrical. Therewas recall # 07v092000concerning electrical system: instrument panel, but theis vehiclewas excluded.the windshield wipers and dashboard lightswerestill inoperable.the current mileage is 40,350, and failure mileage was 36,000.
Dealership is unable to perform the windshield wiper recall repairs within a reasonable time because the recalled replacement part has been on a national back order. This has been going on for 5 months.
The spare tire winch on my vehicle failed and the spare tire fell to the pavement. In my case i was fortunate to be in a parking lot when it happened and there was no accident. If this had happened on the highway an accident would have almost surely resulted. The spare tire on these vehicles is quite large and heavy and could cause a large number of possible outcomes if hit at highway speeds. The spare tire winch uses a stranded steel cable to lift and lock the spare tire up against the bottom of the vehicles frame. This stranded steel cable failed right where it passed through the center of the rim. This stranded steel cable is going to fail eventually on every dodge truck that used this design of winch. Everyone will eventually fail. Chrysler has used this design in literally hundreds of thousands of vehicles over the years since the 90s or before. It amazes me that there has been no accidents or fatalities resulting from the failure of the winch. An internet search showed many instances of the spare tire falling from the vehicle due to the cable failing.
2003 dodge durango.consumer writes in regards to vehicle front left wheel came off while driving. When the vehicle was put on a flat bed and delivered to the repair shop, he was informed the axle had no way to lubricate the wheel assembly and so when it was dry, it severed itself from the front end.
The drivers side wheel, hub assembly axle bearing front suspension broke off. Completely broke off. Extremely dangerous and seriously danaged
Turning into a parking lot and the front passenger side tire fell off. 1260.00.
Hub or ball joints
Hello yesterday i left work wasn't in my truck for 5 minutes and it started smoking white smoke came out and i seen antifreeze spray everywhere i don't know if the engine locked on me or the head gasket is blown either way what can i do about thisalso before this happened when it rains my truck will spin it scared the hell out of me when i was driving to work but this only happens when it rains the tires look good
The center wheel caps come off while driving.the caps do not fit tight on the wheels.i can remove the caps easily only using my fingers.
I have a 2003 dodge durango with about 30,000 miles on it and the problem i am having is the center cap on the wheel is coming off when the car is being driven. At first i thought maybe somebody was stealing them but i now know that isn't true. After i lost two of them i decided to check them every time i get in or out of the car.yesterday i had to go to the doctor, so before i got into the car i looked to make sure that the two center caps that were left was still in their places of which they were. When i arrived at the doctor i checked again and this time i was missing one on the rear driver side. I did not stop anywhere so i know that it had to come off while i was driving.i also called the dealer parts person to find out if they had replacements and how much they were and he told me that he has been having a run on them and that either somebody must be collecting them or they were defective.i know that somebody will get hurt badly if they get hit by one of these, especially if the person is driving at a high rate of speed.i don't know where to go from here and am hoping that you may be able to help me out. Thankyou, larry occhipinti([email protected]) .
2003 dodge durango has a problem with the lug nuts stamped stainless cover. *nj the consumer stated while driving, the right front tire shredded.all of the lugnuts came off, except one. When the consumer applied additional pressure on the lug wrench, to break it loose, the stamped stainless decorative cap twisted off. He was unable to get it back into place, so that the 19mm lug wrench would work. Theconsumer replaced all of the lug nuts.
