I was invloved in a front end collision in my 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 p.u.my airbags did not deploy.

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt quad cab that was purchased used in 2002.when i purchased the truck there were no problems.a couple months after i noticed a crack starting in the dash that ended up being the fist of many holes that formed in the dash.after doing some searching i found that i was not the only one with this problem.almost everyone i talked to in town and across the us, via the internet, were experiencing the same problem i had.some were very subtle while others were to the point of being dangerous.mine at the moment is purely cosmetic and has not interfered with any of the electrical or heating and cooling systems that reside under/behind the dash.as the years have gone on the problem has gotten worse.it wasn't till just recently that i ran across this and a couple other sites where i could document this problem and feel that something may actually get done.i am concerned that i may become a victim of common wiring problems that others have experienced.some complainants had lost all use of their lighting systems.i am personally am uneasy that if i were in an accident that i or my passengers (wife and kids) my be pelted with shrapnel form this defective dash.

I took my 01' dodge durango to hartzheim dodge service center for my 90 thousand mile service, a couple days later the "chime" constantly goes off , i took it back to the service center 11/19/04and found that the module "wore out" they recommended replacing ctm. I declined, i feel that it was their mistake and i shouldn't have to pay to replace ctm ($300) and the chime still keep sounding and no lights on dash. I'm concerned, my alarm and all electrical is constantly coming and going. Need advise.

Car has stalled numerous times while driving.this means i have virtually no steering and no brakes.a few times ive driven into curbs to keep from hitting other vehicles and to stop my vehicle.this week it happened four times in one day while traveling on congested streets.it is completely random, happening on rainy days, sunny days hot days and cold days.my mechanic says chrysler is aware of this problem and i should take it to the dealer.while that's my next step, this type of problem should not be happening.and if chrysler is aware of this dangerous problem, why hasn't there been a recall?

Transmission developes shift problem. This is common to all diesel dodge pickups, or at least all i have heard of.

Noises and popping coming from front suspension when going over bumps. Front end sways back and forth, especially on bumpy roads.treacherous on icy roads due to lack of stabilty.

Consumer states that when starting up the vehicle the engine light will come on and will stay on the remainder of the time. Dealer notified. Mr

While on my way to have my durango serviced for the recall to it's ball joints, my oil pressure dropped, the engine light came on and then the car died.all within a matter of minutes while i was driving on a highway.i had to have it towed to the dealership and they said i needed a new engine.they claimed it was a maintenance problem.i had the engine replaced at a local mechanic.i had a used engine put in and the old engine was traded in on the new one.

A gasket type part on the front of the cab below the windshield and under the hood kept coming loose.i put it back and it came loose again.it fit onto a lip but would not stay.half of it eventually fell down onto the engine and caught fire, burning the cap off my freon charger allowing all my freon to escape and a hole in my air filter case allowing dirt in there.i took the remaining piece off and did not replace it.my mechanic said that the dodge is notorious for this and the only way to make that part stay in place is to have someone rivet it to the body of the truck.had the other side of this gasket fallen, it would have burned all my electrical wiring.my 2001 2500 dodge diesel had 90,000miles at the time.

Consumer complains of the engine stalling in traffic.there was a problem with it hard starting also.this vehicle has been in for unsuccessful repairs and to date is still not operating efficiently. *jg

We were driving down the interstate in our 2001 dodge durango sport and our check gauges light came on and our oil pressure dropped to zero. It did this 3 times over a 2 minute period. We pulled over at the nearest gas station and checked the oil, as we had just had it changed a week ago. We had oil and it there were no shavings in it. We sat there for a while and then restarted the durango thinking it was a bad sensor. About 10 minutes later, we started hearing a knocking noise and a foul smell. We immediately pulled over and had the durango towed back to our house. When we got home we changed the oil and filter just to be sure it wasn't a bad filter. Upon inspection, we found sludge in our oil. We got on the web and found out several durango owners have had this same problem and that dodge has not had any recalls for this. The durango is our main family vehicle for our family of 5 which includes 2 infants. This is the third year we have owned the durango and it has been in the shop at lest 2 times every year. We are trying to come up with the money to either replace the oil pump or the engine if needed.

Consumer complains of the air conditioning.the problem with the air conditioner has never been resolved, even after four attempts.*jg

Air conditioner evaportaor failure. 10/15 in for "cleaing" cleaing and 11/9 in for change of evaportor. Still prblem of mold and bad smell along with powedery substance blowing from all vents still persits. Told by several ac speicalilst in the area that dodge has probelms and that mold is thrughout my 4 month old vehicle a/c system. Dodge denies this. But still problems persits. Dangerous to turn on wir and to breath in smell and odor.

The power steering and brakes were replaced once to correct the noises and (the hoses-per service bulletin) were replaced.the consumer requested a replacement vehicle or a refund.since the purchase, the vehicle always had a noise in the power steering.the pump was replaced twice because of the power steering and brake failures.the problem could not be duplicated.there also was a broken window, radio, and the gear knob needed to be tightened/aligned.mrscc

2001 model 3500 dodge truck, extended period of time at night, headlights go off, after activating dimmer control lights return to on, i called dodge and my ref# is 11770066, i am the original owner of this vehicle. I can not drive this vehicle at night this increases the risk of a vehicle crash.*la

At around 60k miles, i was experiencing a shifting latency at highway speeds and occasional power loss when i tried to accelerate or go in reverse. Took it in to the local aamco where they said that i had high levels of metal shavings in the fluid, and that i needed to have the transmission rebuilt. Cost was $2800 not including the warranty that i purchased through them. From what i understand (from the dodge forums i frequently visit) this is a common problem with the second generation ram's, and one that chrysler seems to ignore. Perhaps that is why they only warranted these trucks for 3 years/36000 miles.

In aug of 2004 i purchased a 2001 dodge durango slt from piedmont chrysler dodge here in anderson sc. This vehicle now has 45000 miles on it. After having problems with the transmission, i took it to a aamco, as this was the closest to where i was located and the vehicle was locked in 2nd gear. They did a diagnostic test on it and told me that the transmission would have to be rebuilt as they thought the 3rd gear was out.i called the dealership on friday, november 11, 2005 and made an aped to bring the car to them on monday 14th. The service manager jim called me and told me that they had looked and drove my vehicle andi did have problems with the transmission (it is an automatic transmission ) and they were going to ask daimlerchrysler to assist with the costs due to the low miles on the vehicle but in order for them to diagnose it they had to "drop the pan" which would cost me $85.this morning, tuesday november 15th jim called me and told me that they dropped the pan and had found that bolts in the transmission had come loose and had actually fell into the clutches. This is a $2800 repair! i then ask them if there was any way that this could have due to my fault? he said absolutely not that this was a major defect in this vehicle. He advised me to call daimlerchrysler and ask them for assistance which i did. I even conferenced him in so he could tell them the "technical" issues involved. Bob clark was the rep we talked to and he was very rude even to the point to tell me that due to the mileage being over 36000 miles and that i was the second owner of this vehicle that i should have purchased an extended service agreement!i then ask to speak to someone with higher authority as jim and i were shocked to his rudeness and inability to help us. I then asked for his corporate office which he refused to give me.after doing research on daimlerchrysler, in fact while doing this research, i found that i was not the only person having problems with them.

Transmission developes shift problem. This is common to all diesel dodge pickups, or at least all i have heard of.

While driving i heard a high pitch squeal and had adecrease in performance.i took it to the dealer to find out that a faulty retainer clip in the drive houseing "pumpkin" broke.with this clip not in place and "floating around in there it caused metal shards to which in turncaused severe damage in the rear end. I bought this vehicle in january "04 which it was supposedly inspected then. I was told that there was severe grooving found in the "pumpkin". Nothing has been done to fix this, my truck has been sitting at teh dealers for 2 weeks. When i called daimler chrysler ,which was recommended by the dealer and was told by the dealer that these things don't just break like that , i was told that daimler chrysler was not going to pay for it to be fixed and was hung up on. Other issues that have been encountered with this truck are a whole new transmission, air intake countless throttle position sensors. I was told that wheni bought this truck that i was buying a meticulously taken care of truck.

The brakes on my 2001 dodge 2500 truck seem to brake and release. When i step on the brakes they seem to work and then all of sudden it feels like the power assist is not working and i have to press on the brakes harder to stop.i have told stevens creek dodge about this problem and they say the brkes are working ok.

The driver's front tire rubs on the lower control on a full left turn scoring the tire and creating the posibility of a tire failure with the posibility of death or injury and property damage.chrysler has been contacted and has not solved the problem.the first attempt by chrysler was to replace the steering box which did not solve the problem.next chrysler attempted to center the steering, and still did not solve the problem.next chrysler is going to try some shims to solve the problem.in the meantime we have 5 more trucks exactly like this one that have the same problem.

On aug. 20,2005 i was driving a 2001 dodge durango 2wd on the interstate at 72 mph when i had to go around a curve and could not turn the wheel not even a little bit. I was almost home but the turning became more difficult. When i got home i had to leave the truck along side the street that night. I took the truck into the dealer place and they inspected the problem and found that the power steering pump had malfunctioned. The motor of it had froze up and was pushing fluid back up to the cap and was running out.

I was recently sent a recall letter for my 2001 dodge durango for the upper ball joints to be replaced. I sent the vehicle to speedway dodge of lansing, kansas and they repaired the ball joints, but they then notified me of a new problem saying i need to have the rack and pinion assembly replaced because if i don't i could lose my steering! it would cost me over $900.00 dollars, well the problem i have with that; is after i went home and did some research on the internet i discovered that i am not alone in this problem! if you look on consumer affairs.com they show people from around the country with the same problems and also if you go to http://www.daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com/they will also tell you of problems that were caused due to defects in the steering*ie,rack & pinion assembly. Please look into this matter for the safety of our american people!

Vehicle dashboardhas over the last year has steadily fallen apart. It is currently in multiple pieces.

My 2001 dodge dakota leaked water to the right or passenger side of the cab compartment (every time it rained. It was first noticed during the summer of 06" it first appeared on the floor of the front seat. After tearingup all the carpet i found that the water was actually coming in from behind the rear seat. There is a seam about half way up in the right rear corner and that is where the water is coming initried to patched it as best i could. So far i have been lucky.

2001 dodge sport 1/2 ton pickup truck has several cracks in dash.last week, one section of dash completely fell in.concerned this problem could now effect wiring.

I am an owner of a 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck.i too have issues with the dashboard cracking.there are several cracks now in the dashboard.i am not the original owner of the vehicle, but what i first noticed shortly after my purchase in 2006 was a small area on the dashboard where it met the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle.in this area, a small piece actually broke out.there wasa crack running from the front to the back of the dashboard in this area.i didn't think anything of it as it was a used vehicle.however, there were several front to back cracks on the entire dashboardandthe plastic that goes around the lens that covers all the gauges.the most concerning to me was the one that ranfrom the passenger front corner across the portion that had the screws in it that secured it.the plastic that surrounded2 of the screw holes was completely cracked around the screw area.the windows were dark tinted, and i used a sun shade on the windshield when the vehicle i was parked, but still more cracks have surfaced.after the recent publicity surrounding these vehicles, i too am nervous about what may happen.

Dashboardcompletely disintegrated into pieces. Only option wasa dashboardcover.

Vehicle is driving erractically. Itgoes to the right, too far ifbarely turning wheel.contact dealer, and dealer stated nothingwas wrong with vehicle.

Left front tire rubs the lower control arm digging a groove in the tire. I replaced the tires three times. The dealer told me they can do nothing about it. This could result in a tire failure causing an accident.

Right front tire was wearing excessively.upon further inspection, my mechanic found that the upper ball joints on my 4x4 were failing rapidly (had excessive play).my mechanic went on to say that i was very lucky this had not come apart while driving as it surely would have resulted in a roll-over.he further advised me to keep a very close watch for any signs of deterioration.dealer says i have to buy the entire steering unit to fix the problem at approximately $750, but they are on a 45 day back order.it seems they cant be made quick enough.i was told the ball joint was welded and could not be removed.this is incorrect as i removed mine quite easily.after a little heat and careful hammering, i was able to bring the play to within acceptable tolerances.the heat which allowed me to re-form the steel, also served to anneal the steel, thus making it stronger than the original soft, unhardened steel.aside from using unhardened steel, i noticed something else that would make a first year engineering student sick: metal on metal with absolutely no lubrication and worse, no way to lubricate it if i wanted to.this is horrendous engineering and a complete failure on the part of chrysler!

I own a dodge durango 2x4 year 2001. My complaint is related to front weel joint noise, when i attempted to take a sharp "u" turn i experienced a repeat clonkingnoise, it felt like the wheel will fall off. I also experienced uneven tire wear on the same side. So i called the dealer in irvine center with the complaint this was a year ago, they said they will check it but i have to pay for allthe expenses, because there is no recall and my warranty is over. Thank god i did not experiance any failure yet, but i would like to be included in the recall system, before i experiance any incident, crash, or injury. Your support is greatly appreciated.

I have a 2001 dodge dually that i use to pull a trailer for my job.the truck is suposed to be rated for over 15000lbs towing.my trailer combined weight isn't over 8000 at any time.the factory receiver hitch which is rated at 11,000 has cracked where it mounts to the frame.the crack has gone through the first of 3 mounts starting at the front on each side.luckily i discovered this during a routine inspection.i had a friend that had this same thing happen to him on his dodge.if the hitch had broke loose while driving at highway speed, no telling what could have happend.the public uses these trucks for pulling horse trailers, race cars, ect. I use mine for carrying snack foods.i feel that this is a safty hazzard and urge the manufacture to recall the hitches.i replaced mine with a class 5 hitch rated at 15000 lbs.

My 2001 dodge dash started cracking a few months ago. Now i have a big hole where part of it once was. Cracks are getting bigger and i am afraid that more holes will follow.

On three occasions, center caps on front sport rims have popped off during driving. Have had to order 3 different times from dealer for new ones and they still deny that any other consumers have complained about the problem. I personally have noticed other ram trucks (even one at the dealership) with missing center caps so this must be some kind of problem. Only happens to front tires but all wheels when rotated to front. Ts

1) normal driving and normal maintenance of vehicle. Tire pressure could not be maintained on one of four wheel/tire assemblies. Wheel/tire assembly was inspected by qualified technician and cracks on innerbead were found to be source of air leak. Wheel was replaced by dealer under special warranty conditions. Other wheels were inspected and no cracks found at that time.2) remaining three aluminum alloy wheels developed cracks on inner bead perpendicular to inner bead at a later date. Number of cracks vary per wheel from 3 to 8 cracks. Length and width of cracks vary also. Cracks are not visible unless wheels are removed or inspection takes place from underneath vehicle. (hidden hazard or defect). Cracks could lead to unexpected tire pressure loss or catastrophic failure of wheel leading to unexpected tire pressure loss or worse.3) wheels were replaced with aftermarket wheels to eliminated safety concern.
