Cracked dashboard that may lead to ripped air bags on deployment,a safety issue.

We owe a 1999 dodge 1500 quad cab right after the manufacturers warranty went out the dash caved in really bad. We bought one from a junk yard and replaced it however it is caving in now. The glove box just recently fell out. The overhead box that holds your garage door opener broke. I am just worried about the safety of the dash and airbags. I think a formal investigation needs to be done before someone gets hurt or killed.

Air bag didn't deploy in front end collision.

1999 dodge durango shut off while driving.most of the time it waswhenvehicle washot, and multiple stops were made.complete loss of power steering and gauges.must wait for vehicle to cool down before it will start again.hashappened multiple times on major highways in traffic, and it wasvery dangerous.

I've noticed recent new stories about dodge truck dash board collapse problems.unfortunately, during the time my vehicle was under warranty, dodge refused to correct the defect.the dash is a total write off now and we are beginning to notice intermittent electrical problems.

Interior lights stays on for 45 seconds.also, computer system is not working.

Wires burns before fuse blows.

Loss of oil pressure in a 1999' durango.

Consumer does not describe safety concern(s).

Oil light came on, limped home and towed it to thegarage.they dropped the pan and said the engine needed to be replaced.$4, later we hada new engine.when i went into the shop to see the one they removed it was coated in sludge.now that i had seen all other similar complaints i wonder ifdodge wasdoing anything about he problem. We all want our money back.

1999 dodge cummins diesel engine; poor design of lift pump and injection pump leads to a variety of failures on 1998.5 through 2002 year models.engine will not accelerate particularly when cold.when leaving stop sign or light, accelerator can be pumped, etc. But engine remains at idle.many owners experience this problem.injection pump - vp44 made by robert bosch.engine by cummins.truck by dodge.won't let my 17 year old drive this vehicle for fear he will do a normal take off and will be broadsided by other traffic when engine does not respond.eventually, lift pump fails leading to injection pump failure.none of the involved manufactures will address the problem.they just continue to sell you replacement parts that fail in a similar manner.

Vehicle began to use oil, dealer stated new engine was needed.

When pulling trailerbrakes went completely out the first time i stepped on the brake pedal, the second time i applied the brakes, the front right passenger tire totally locked up and put a flat spot on tire.i took it to the dealer & they say everything checked out fine.it did this all the way home from our trip.furthermore, the truck has always had a steering problem, it wanders.the fog lights stopped working shortly after i got the truck as well & the dealer replaced the switch.

Transfer fuel pump has been replaced 3 times under warranty, now 140,000 miles the cummins engine needs another pump, has left me stranded beside the road two different occasions. Also 5th gear had to be replaced, i understand this is another problem dodge has with the nv4500 transmission. *la

Transmission started pulsating and jerking to a small extent. Act like spark plug wire off, or excessive tar strips on the road.

While my step dad was driving my dodge durango up a hill, the engine revved up, lost power, and quit.the transmission slipped.after blogging about this problem, there appears to be a lot of issues with the transmissions failing at all mileage levels.

A clucking noise is heard when shifting into reverse, noise could be coming from transmission or differential, noise seem to be getting louder.

The consumer stated that his front brakes failed twice. *tc the problem would occur on wet slippery roads when the brakes were applied and would pull to the side so hard that one must control the vehicle from spinning out. *sc

Corrosion of brake lines caused one to rupture.dealer states that lines were made of aluminum and were no longer made or supplied from dodge.this was a known problem with some other dodge vehicles (neon).

At 10 mph vehicle was involved in a rear end collision.consumer stated that anti lock brakes failed.

When using the brakes to slow or stop the vehicle, severe shaking results.dealer unable to fix after 4 attempts.dodge engineers apparently do not know what is wrong. Litigation pending.

Consumer stated theleft front brake pad had disintegrated which imaged the rotors. The problem was mainly under wet conditions and was a safety hazard.scc

The brake rotors have been repaired twice on this vehicle. The ball joint is cracked and i have read that the ball joints have been a problem on the durango also.

The brakes in the 1999 dodge durango failed while trailing a y boat. I had the truck flat bed to the service station. I was lucky that this happened at the boat ramp so no accident occurred and no one was hurt. I had to have the entire front and rear brake lines replaced. They were completely rotted. I don't think that a truck that is 8 years old should have brakelines rotted as bad as these were. The mechanic said they were the worst he had ever seen. I had him save some of the old brakeline for me. This is an extremely dangerous saftey hazard, action should be taken before someone is badly injured.

This vehicle was perchased on 9-10-99. On 8-27-99 the steering column was replaced. On 9-19-99 while making a right hand turn at a stop sign the steering wheel stuck in place . I had to yank on the wheel and i heard and felt a crunch as the steering wheel became unstuck. It was later towed to a service garage where they replaced a part in the steering wheel called a clock spring.

My 1999 durango has had several costly repairs none of which should have ever had to be made to a vehicle with such few miles on it. (1) there was a clicking noise in the steering column and the directional control was moving. Dodge told me i had to replace the steering column$$$$ at less than 40,000 miles. I have had cars and trucks with 200,000 miles that never had to have any such thing done. (2) heater box damper has apparently come loose and sometimes will not open or close. Dodge told me it would cost $900.00 to just take the dashboard apart to look at it. I told them for $900.00 i could live with it. Again, less than 40,000 miles. (3) power windows are slow and sometimes do not work at all. (4) uneven tire wear and noise coming from front end, after reading other complaints i fear ball joints are in the near future. I understand that chrysler has recalled the 2000-2003 durangos for ball joints, when are they going to recall the 1998 and 1999 durangos. My wife and i are constantly hauling girl scouts and cub scouts to various events, i feel chrysler should take it into consideration why people buy suvs and that lives are at risk.

No summary listed for that vehicle.

Took vehicle to dealer 12/20/2004 for front end noise.dealer statement on receipt "checked steering components all ok at this time tires cupped" .took vehicle to tire shop for alignment & rotation on 12/29/2004.tire shop finds "both upper & lower ball joints are bad // outer tie rod ends has play"dealer refuses to repair under present recall onvehicles mfr shortly after this vehicle date.vehicle is 1999 dodge dakota 4x4.vehicle's covered by recall is inadequate to rectify all potential safety issues with this problem.

I have a 1999 dodge durango with 55,000 miles. I took it to jerry's dodge for a 4-wheel alignment and they told me that it couldn't be aligned because both the upper and the lower ball joints were shot. Also the vehicle needs tie rods. These are obviously defected parts. I should not be having this problem on a vehicle with only 55k miles. The vehicle has never been used off-road. It's only been driven on city & highway paved roads.

1999 dodge dakota 4x4 sport club cab. The lower, upper ball joints are dangerousely worn out at 52,000 miles. Also worn out to the point where an alignment can't be done are both tire rods.

I have a 1999 dodge ram truck 2500 series 4x4. The dash on this vehicle has totally caved in and fallen on the controls, airbag, fan and wiring. I can't even get to some of the pieces of the plastic. I have read and heard on the radio/tv that this is a problem that a lot of dodge owners are having it isn't just me. This is obviously a problem with the materials that dodge is using in they're plastic and should have a recall on their dashboards.

Recent purchase of 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport truck. With no force or assistance the dash of the truck cracked once and within seconds another larger crack engulfed the dash. The truck was in the garage when the initial incident happened and the other happened as i stated above seconds later as i backed out of the garage.

I have two 1999 dodge ram 2500 pickups and both of them have cracked dashes which are about to cave in. I have friend who is also having the same problem but his dash already caved inand now is having electrical problems. I have seen countless , newer and older trucks with the same problem. I am wondering if dodge is working to remedy this problem?

When driving at 60mph the trucks starts to vibrate, and when a bump is hit it gets worse. Dealer says that tires are out of round and will be replaced. *ml

Tires started experiencing wear on the inside edges at 5800 miles and consumer had them replaced, 4 months later, tires were wearing on the outside and pulling to the right, after many alignments tires were upgraded, however problem still occurred, dealer stated problem was crown pull, new tires are still wearing and vehicle is still pulling to the right, possible suspension problem.

The steering is loose.the truck wanders back and forth in the lane.the right front tire wears considerably faster than any of the other tires despite regular alignments performed at a dealership.it is a 1999, dodge ram 4x4 1500 sport pickup.i have contacted the dealership where purchased as well as corporate headquarters and they stated there are no current issues with this vehicle.

1999 durango v8 magnum 4 wheel drive ball joints: upper and lower needed to be replaced before the tires fall off and kill me or my passengers at the dealerships estimate of $1000.00.

All 4 ball joints in my 1999 dodge durango went bad at 38,000 miles.car was uncontrollable and i was afraid to drive it so i called my dealer.he informed me that it was not under warranty and no recalls had been issued.i then took my 1999 durango to my service repair man at which time he informed me that all ball joints needed to be replaced and that me & my family were in danger of an accident from the wheels falling off.i had only had the vehicle for 3 years after buying it new from the dealer and only used it for local driving.

1999 dodge dakota 4x4 sport club cab. The lower, upper ball joints are dangerousely worn out at 52,000 miles. Also worn out to the point where an alignment can't be done are both tire rods.

The previous recall for ball joints did not include thisvehicle which is a 1999 durango,i had to pay out of pocket to have them replaceball joints in november 2004. When i recently had my vehicle looked over by the dealer, i was told that i need new ball joints again. I don't think i should havebeen excluded from the initial ball joint recall.obviously my vehicle was showing qualifications.

At 68,000 miles i purchased new tires for my dodge dakota slt. It was brought to my attention that the left & right lower front ball joints as well as the right upper ball joints were in very bad shape. Beginning to crack which could cause a crash. Not normal for minimal mileage. Heard that there are several complaints about it and it's being investigated. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. *la

I heard on the radio this morning that dodge may recall the 2000 thru 2004 dakota thucks due to ball joint problems. I have a 1999 dakota and my mechanic told me that theball joints need to be replaced. My complaint is if they are going to recall the 2000 through 2004, why are they not recalling the 1999's? it is my understanding that there is little difference between the 1999 and the 2000. Thank you very muchdave ball.

I own a 1999 dodge durango, and am mainly filing this as a request to be included in the recall for the '00-'03 durangos, since i recently had to have the ball joints replaced on the left tire configuration, and need to replace the ball joints on the right side also.the recall should not be limited to the 2000 models!

I had my vehicle at the dealership last year and they recommended that i have the upper ball joints replaced.thinking they were just trying to get more money out of me, i did not have the work done.i then heard about the recall of the 2000--- and thought mine should be included.it wasn't and i did not get a sufficient answer from chrysler as to why it wasn't.i wanted data which i found here on this site.before taking my small children on a vacation in the truck, i am having the parts replaced by a private mechanic, whom i trust.

This is in reference to email correspondence i have had with dodge in reference to ball joint problems with my 1999 dodge durango. I have noticed the recall for 2000-2003 dodge durnago pickup trucks in reference to this problem, but was informed by dodge that nhtsa was performing an investigation into 1998 and 1999 dodge durangos as well. I found out after going to get my vehicle inspected by a midas shop for missouri state inspection that my ball joints were bad.my fear is that anyone with a vehicle previous to 2000 would get a false sense of security that their vehicle is safe. I have found via online groups and the midas store that fixed my car that this problem is prevelant in older durnago and dakota trucks. I am only writing this as an fyi to your organization that i own one of these vehicles and have experienced the same problems.thank you for your time and cooperation.

1999 durango v8 magnum 4 wheel drive ball joints: upper and lower needed to be replaced before the tires fall off and kill me or my passengers at the dealerships estimate of $1000.00.

1999 dodge dakota 4x4 sport club cab. The lower, upper ball joints are dangerousely worn out at 52,000 miles. Also worn out to the point where an alignment can't be done are both tire rods.

During routine tire replacement, it is noted that the upper ball joints are going bad. I was told that this matched the description of a recall that affected 2000-2003 durangos.

My 1999 dodge durango went into the dealer with less than 100,000 kilometers on it and was diagnosed with 3 ball joints shot and needing replacement. The chrysler web site has recalled 2000 durangos, but will not consider my vehicle for a safety recall, even though the steering components are defective.

In october of 2003 our 1999 durango began making squeaking noises when going over bumps. At the time we only had 56,442 miles on it.we had heard of complaints via television where upper ball joints were the cause of some owners durango's wheels to completely disengage and come off.we had been hearing this noise in our "99 durango for some time, so thought it best for safety purposes to have it checked out at our dealership lithia dodge in eugene, ore. They verified that the upper ball joints were worn prematurely and were in need of replacement.they replaced the uppercontrol arms with ball joint , but were unable to guarantee wear as they replaced them basically with the parts that have now been deemed defective by chrysler corp.we feel that this recall is not going back far enough.daimler chrysler needs to also include the 1999 dodge durango.

I was driving my 1999 dodge durango when i noticed my brand new front tires were wearing funny. I thought the alignment was bad, took it to get fixed, and found out it was all four of the front ball joints. Now there is a horrible shaking in the front end, and squeak. I was quoted close to $1000.00 to fix. I know this has been a very common problem among the 1999 year but the recall is only good for the 2000-2002. I do not have this kind of money to put into something that should be taken care of by the dealers.

I saw that 600,000 dodge durangos were recalled for ball joint failure. The recall listed vehicles for 2000 - 2004. I have a 1999 durango and it was just in the shop and they replaced the ball joints. I thought it was strange and thought to inform you the problem may exsist on earlier models.

Took vehicle to ruston la dealer they claimed there was nothing wrong. Not happy. No safety defect listed within summary.
