Due to my passenger side airbag being potentially deadly i cannot trade off my truck for a fair market value. Also i feel it is unsafe for any person or persons to ride in the passenger side of the truck. I contacted dodge back in october of 2016 and expressed my concerns on the safety of me vehicle and they assured me that there would be a fix in march 2017. However there is still no fix and i still cannot trade off my truck or allow passengers in it. I understand that the airbags were not built by dodge but they need to be more accountable for the risk and the situation that faithful customers are being put in.

The left turn signal works when it wants and when i turn it on the right turn signal comes on. The wipers and the headlights are currently going out or coming on by themselves. I have an error on the airbags (which have had the drivers replaced and currently awaiting the passengers, plus the new recall on the hose to the air bags). This issue started at around 120k miles. The fuses have been checked and passed. The bulbs-replaced. The situation is getting worse as the dash and interior lights do not work. The night lights went out when i was driving one night and do not drive after dusk anymore. All of this happens driving. The turns do it whether i am making a turn or pulling out or even testing them parked.

Risk of fire by wrong sized fused in power outlet.i almost burn the truck charging a drone (57w charger) parking and left alone for about 20 minutes, when i back the cabin was filled with smoke. First i think in the lithium batteries catching fire, but no, the smoke comes from behind the dash. Quickly i removed the 20a fuse and left like this.i ordered the replacement outlet and today when i was to change i found the wires complete melted.check the service manual and shows a 18awg wire protected whit 20a fuse.probably a inherited from some old dodge ram which one have a 20a fuse and 14awg wire. Checking some news models and have 18awg too, so it could be more vehicles in potential risk of fire.the user manual, printed, digital online, the fuse box cover, service manual, everywhere says 20a fuse for a thin 18awg wire.

Possible short in electrical system effecting safety equipment.seatbelt warning continues to alarm when seatbelts are worn and/or fastened without passengers in vehicle.audible alarm stops after driving at higher speeds without frequent stops for traffic, street lights, stop signs (ie: freeway), however, visual warning light remains on dash.horn effected - fuse blows and requires replacement each time horn is used.seat belt system problems began in 2013 while driving on freeway at approx. 60mph.horn problems began in 2014.

My engine turns off while driving. I cannot restart the engine until i have stopped, shifted to park, and cycled the ignition to off.the engine stalling started as a low/slow idle condition, and now has escalated to cutting off at full acceleration while merging into expressway traffic. This has happened on several dates. I am selecting the date of my last remembered occasion.

Turn signals and wipers intermittent. Push lever down and right signal may blink, or no signal, or left signal. Push lever up and right signal may blink or nothing at all. If signals do work properly as they switch off (either manually or when the turn is completed) opposite signal may blink 1-3 times. While switching from high beam to low beam and vice versa windshield washer and wipers will turn on for 3-4 swipes.

Wind shield wiper motor is good but switch is defective. Only wipes very slow is very dangers for me to travel when its raining.

This truck has had to be towed in to the dealership several times in the 15 months since i've owned it.the service department tells me it is due to the tipm.the failure of this part makes the vehicle impossible to start.apparently chrysler has a huge problem with this part.

Right rear tire pressure sensor internal failure, leading to need for replacement.

Crank positionsensor failed causing total loss of engine power harsh downshift from transmision at speed andloss of power brakes and power stearingcould get someone killed if it was in a intersection or on the highwayreplacement should be free + towing

I was driving east on a two lane road, as i heard a slight pop come from my driver side tire. Suddenly after that pop, their was a slip in the steering and i had noticed that my driver side tire started to lose massive control, thus jerking and locking up the truck in matters of seconds. Luckily drivers behind me were paying attention and swerved out of the way nearly missing the truck. I gained some control and pulled into a near by business. Parked i assessing the situation. It was found that the tie rod had fallen off the connection for know reason at all. The truck is only 3 years old and 51,000 miles, with regular maintenance.

Turning right last year signaled left and the blinker blinked right my wife was behind me and later asked why i didn't signal the right way i said i did im not a dumm yi checked things they were fine. About a week later ...i put the high beams on and the wipers came on ran through the turn signals sure enough signal left blink right signal right blink left.put high beam on washer fluid and wipers come on.

Turn signal activates the wrong indicator.when the turn signal is set to a left turn, the right turn indicators flash, both on the dashboard and on the exterior signal lamps.from a web search, this is a relatively common problem stemming from a faulty switch in the steering column.this situation is far more dangerous than a situation where the exterior lamps are not working.because the wrong indicator flashes, other driver can make erroneous decisions about the driver's intent, leading to a significantly higher probability of a crash.the symptoms are intermittent, but not linked to steering wheel position or the motion of the vehicle.there might be a correlation between relative humidity and the error - it has not occurred in the last 3 months of drought after it began on 8/31 until we had experienced a week of rain.because of the location of the switch, the defect is quite costly to repair, requiring the steering column to be breached.i am asking that this be a very high priority due to the danger posed by signalling the entirely opposite intention from that of the driver.this is not cosmetic, it is a failure of a safety system on the vehicle that is used more frequently than an airbag or crumple zone.it also puts innocent drivers outside the vehicle at significantly greater risk through no fault of their own.

Went to use turn signals and they hang up. They do not quit blinking right away. Does not matter which one you turn on-left or right (up or down).

The left turn signal works when it wants and when i turn it on the right turn signal comes on. The wipers and the headlights are currently going out or coming on by themselves. While driving the outer tie rod failed and the vehicle was unusable, the dealer stated there was no warranty. The vehicle would have crashed if i had not been lucky and brought it to the side of the road quickly. Both tie rod ends were found to be defective as well as the sway bar mounts. In addition this vehicle has routinely had a turn signal problem, when you turn on the left signal the right signal illuminates about 25 percent of the time.

Re:2008 dodge dakotabeen searching for recall on the above vehicle, been stopped numerous of time by officers about signals.have replaced bulbs and doesn't work.problems:turns left signal light on and the right one comes on, this happens 95% of the time.emergency flashes does not work 75% of the time.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota.while driving 45-50 mph, the vehicle stalled.the entire instrument panel failed to illuminate and the fuel gauge indicated that there was no fuel in the vehicle, when it was actually full.the vehicle would restart after several attempts, but the fuel gauge still indicated that it was empty.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not identify the cause of the failure.the following week, the failure recurred and again on july 22, 2008.during the most recent failure, the body shop mechanic had to repair a small ding in her door.the contact was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer.once at the dealer, she was informed that the vehicle would need to remain there for inspection.she is currently awaiting the dealer to inform her if a rental will be provided in the interim.the contact is currently driving the vehicle and no repairs have been made.the failure mileage was 4,100 and current mileage was 4,400.

As i start the truck, it kicks when i shift to drive and start to accelerate. I took it to a dealer near mewhen there was a recall for the rack and pinion and they did not find anything. The truck keeps doing the kick or jumps gears. Maybe the problem is in the cable or the shifter. It keeps doing this to this day and getting worse. Now i have to move the shifter to drive and put it back to park to start the truck. Also the ignition stays on sometimeswhen the key is removed and this drains the battery.the truck seems to use way to much gas for the driving i do. My job is less than five miles from my house and it uses a lot of gas about 10.00 every day for such a short distance.

My four wheel drive is engaging on it's own. The shift motor engages while the vehicle is parked and turned off. The four wheel drive will engage on it's own while i am driving. I had the vehicle tested at a certified garage and the mechanic said that the transfer case shift motor needs to be replaced. After researching dodge/chrysler issues, i have found that quite a few others have had this same issue. They also changed the transfer case shift motor and the problem was not resolved. I would like to find out if chrysler is going to fix their electrical problems with the dodge four wheel drives.

Pinion bearing froze up spinning race in rear end housing. This required replacement of all bearings and house assembly. Pinion bearing was defective at the time it was installed. Pickup has only 48k miles on it. Chrysler was contacted agreed it was bad but refused to help on replacement. Said warranty was only good to 36k. This happened on the highway but was able to get truck to garage. All required services had been completedper chrysler requirements.

I had purchase this vehicle in feb 2011, and ever since i have reported to my dealer that i been feeling vibration when i apply my brakes and all of a sudden, steering wheel starts to shake and brakes shake when applied. They had test drove it an they came back an told me it was just the road, they informed tochange the breaks and rotors, and i should b fine, so i did. Now im having trouble with road vibration from new tires, also had a alignment for all four tires, and they not able to keep proper balance and now again with my rotors and brakes shakes when i apply and i feel it in the steering wheel. I just may need to take it in have them look everything overagain, but by another mechanic..

Repair shop said i needed new front brake pads & rotors, tie rods were about to fall off, said it was dangerto drive. Chrysler dealer said it was out warranty.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the front end of the vehicle shook vigorously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic replaced the front brake pads and cleaned the rotors. The failure continued after the repair. The contact stated the failure could have been related to the front end and not necessarily the brakes. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Wheel cylinder for the rear brakes was faulty and leaking. This led to the brakes being partially on constantly, and the brake shoes to wear to below safe limits within a year.

Ref mfr recall 870- nhtsa recall 00v-193. Brake line leaking from rubbing against power steering hose. Contacted local dealer (m&l chrysler dodge jeep ram, lexington nc) was told they had the brake line but not part #cbed6701 and could not repair under recall but could sell me a brake line, referred me to customer service @ 800-992-1997. They took information and said they had to check with dealer. I have heard nothing after 10 days from dealer or customer service. Meanwhile i have to add brake fluid to keep from losing my brakes when they have the brake line to fix the problem but say i will have to pay for it.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. While driving approximately 55 mph the brake system locked. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and the vehicle was towed to the contacts home. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who stated the front passenger side rotor, caliper, and brake shoe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 18,575.

Front brakes get grabby, than lock-up, when driven at random speeds. This causes the wheels to smoke and rotor grinding. This failure has occurred at least 7 times from 500 miles to 10,000 miles. I have had it to the 2 different dodge dealers for a total 3 times.the only way i can get the brakes to unlock is to turn off the engine and wait a few minutes and restart the engine.

Brakes locked and smoked when going over 50 miles per hour on the highway on my dakota.i had to pull over to the side of the road to stop.the brakes smelled like they were burning.i waited for about 10 minutes and proceeded to try to get to the next exit.however, the shaking continued.i pulled over once again and waited for another 30 minutes.at this point, i got back in the car and it didn't do it anymore. When i went to the dealer to have this checked, i was told i needed to replace the calipers, pads and rotors.upon further investigation on the web, i'm finding this is happening to several other people with this name brand: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/dakota/2002/brakes/brakes_lock_up.shtml.based on the complaint and even if the brakes gets fixed, it could happen again.i'm concerned about using the car to go anywhere far since i feel it is very dangerous.i feel there should be some sort of recall on this issue.i have not gotten it fixed yet as i'm not sure it's even worth it.this happened to another 2005 dodge dakota truck i had but since i was still under the warranty, it was fixed although they gave me a hard time accusing me of taking the car elsewhere for maintenance.i thought the issue with dakotas was a one-time incident.i would appreciate your investigating this issue further.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. While driving 20 mph, the brakes were dragging and caused the vehicle to bounce. The contact stated that the calipers were sticking. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Erratic power steering. Worse when cold. Never knew when the power steering would work. Vehicle would not recover from left turn requiring pulling thesteering wheel to the right to keep under control.

My husband was driving his 08 dodge dakota less than 2 miles from our home.we live in a very rural area.he was not going more than 35-40 mph.he lost control of the vehicle due to an incredible amount of shaking in the front end of the truck.luckily, he was close to a rarely used road and pulled over.it was unusable and had to be towed to the mechanic's shop.both tie rods had broken along with other parts that were severely worn.we had just had a baby less than two weeks before and we had all ridden in the truck together days before this happened.thank the good lord my husband did not wreck and the baby and myself were not with him.the chrysler company needs to fix this problem!!!it was expensive to fix for a family with a new baby and very, very dangerous!!

My father had taken this truck into the dealership multiple times for front end noises. He passed 3 months ago, and the truck became mine. Once i got it, i took it into the shop to have it looked over. They informed me the front suspension was ready to fall out of it at 66k miles. We had the front suspension fixed and it still makes suspicious noises. I believe there are probably more 08's out there that have this problem, so i think the 08 dakota's should be included in the newest dodge recall.the entire time my father owned this truck, he repeatedly took it to the dealership saying something was wrong with the suspension. I'm sure key chrysler in new carlisle oh has records of these visits and his complaints. It's a shame he didn't live to see this recall, he would have felt vindicated.the 2008 dodge dakota should be included in this recall.

Repair shop said i needed new front brake pads & rotors, tie rods were about to fall off, said it was dangerto drive. Chrysler dealer said it was out warranty.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

After 62000 miles rack and pinion needed to be replaced that warranty does not cover, 62000 is too soon to be replacing rack and pinion.

The steering linkage ball joint broke on my 2008 dodge dakota with only 23,153 miles.

Drove vehicle home last night just fine. Went to leave this morning and front right tire wouldn't roll. Upon inspection, tie rod is not attached. It just fell off. This is a commuter vehicle and has never been used off-road.

Our 2008 dodge dakota had two tie rods fail in two months. The truck was fresh out of warranty with approx 63,000 miles.first one tie rod broke, then within two months, the other. No warning, when first tie rod end was replaced, other tie rod was checked, looked ok.new tie rod ends were installed.both presented dramatic safety issues. The tie rod broke and fell so that there was absolutely no control of the front wheels. By sheer luck, we were not driving 65 mph down the highway, but in a rural town setting, so we did not crash the truck. The mechanics on the second breakdown of the tie rod end told us something had to be wrong with the second one going.this doesn't just happen twice on one truck.chrysler "customer service" offered to pay for the parts. Customer service representative did not understand english and we could not understand the representative, who spoke with a heavy accent, making it difficult, no, impossible to understand the representative.from the responses we got fromour mechanics and chrysler, it is obvious to us that this was not the first truck that came in with the very same problem.the tie rod ends failing is not the same as the heater or air conditioner quitting. It is a major safety issue, and we got no satisfaction and were treated as though it was some irritation that they were bothered with.we believe they know about the problem, and their (customer service) know about it and only wanted to get us off their back by giving us the lowest possible quality of customer service.like most good customer service representatives, they would not commit any of their comments to writing, but, i am sure, recorded everything, where it may or may not be available.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. The contact stated that power steering fluid leaked into the boot and caused it to rupture. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 48,000.

The steering completely locked up and would not turn.intermittently over the past 3 months the power steering would suddenly stop working and the car was extremely hard to steer and control.after twice replacing the rack and pinion and steering pump the situation seemed to improve.then suddenly, traveling 70 mph on the freeway, the steering jerked right and when i turned it back to the left it completely locked up and i could not turn the wheels at all, they were locked straight causing us to immediately cross all lanes of the freeway as the road turned forcing us to the center divider.

Fluid leakage informed from mechanic that rack and pinon leaking

Had the brakes checked on the vehicle during a routine oil change.was informed that the tie rod end was loose and would have to be replaced, or else the possibility of losing steering control of the vehicle would be eminent.was informed that the tie rod ends were designed for cars, and these same tie rod ends were also used in the trucks.i asked if the parts had been upgraded and was told no they had not been upgraded, and that the same parts would be used to replace the old worn ones.why are parts designed for a car being used in a truck, especially in such a critical area?luckily, this was caught before a disaster happened.

The steering linkage ball joint broke on my 2008 dodge dakota with only 23,153 miles.

Lower core support is severely rusting away.front end will eventually drop off!chrysler corp. Has denied any assistance.vehicle has been in service less than 2000 days and was manufactured with shoddy parts.

I was going down fort sill blvd and i rear ended another truck. I was going roughly 40 to 45 miles per hour. My entire front end was completely smashed in, yet my air bags still didn't deploy?? this is he second accident that they didn't deploy. I have several photos of my trucks front end and the inside showing that the air bags didn't deploy.

Driving in our lane on a city street going 40 mph as a vehicle tried to turn into a gas station, crossing our lane right front of us and they did not have enough time to make the turn. To avoid a full blown head on collision, i swerved and we hit front driver side vs front driver side. Going 40 mph, and the speed of the other vehicle and my air bags did not deploy, that being my main concern why they did not deploy with the speed being considered and hitting front on.

The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. Upon entering the vehicle he noticed water on the seats. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the door gaskets were replaced. The failure had not recurred.he also mentioned that the radio intermittently stopped functioning. The vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions where it was repaired. The vin and the failure mileage were unavailable. The current mileage was 18,000.

2008 dodge dakota quad cab 4x4 is the biggest piece of junk i have had 3 trans done and trans lines 3 times all front end tie rods struts sway bars wheel barrings rotors radio air bags seat belts and more replaced on this rolling wheeled piece of junk ive had people say nice truck and i say thanks but dont buy one they are a junk only 116k miles on it and will be lots more to spend on this junk dealer asked me if i ever drove it down a drit road and i said why he said the tie rods are wore outon it and i said how this is when i had 10k miles on it they said they that you should not go on any dirt roads come on now where are no dirt roads i laughed at them and said i had not went on one yet. Now how do anybody get this thing right on get rid of it what a lemon.

Tie rods failed under 25k milesloss of control violent shaking 26 thousand miles water pump bearings failed leaking seal possible belt slippage fromleak repair shop also noticed rack n pinion seals leaking fluidthat was replacednow i hear a clunking when i turn.ball joints?? that you cannot lubricate they were replaced for free on my 2002 dakota for my ownership freethey should be free for this one toobefore it kills someone.

Vehicle failed state safety test due to need for lower ball joints at <70k miles.

I was driving home on highway and heard a pop like sound found out in morning the pinion was the issue and neighbor found nut was lose and i got another and he is a mechanic so he installed it and a week later was making noise so i took it to a garage and they found it lose and installed another one and just the other day i took it back and found it was lose some so he ordered another one and he put some retainer or not sure but he will put the new nut on when it comes in and i see 44,000 trucks from 2009 to 2010 and trucks from 2005 have pinion problems so i am amazed that 2008 has same issue and i see so many post ball joints i did one side already and for god to and now air bag i see and had fords and chevy and all i repaired on the were normal things

Right rear tire pressure sensor internal failure, leading to need for replacement.

On 9 july 2012, i took my vehicle into t j tire and service in richlands, nc.i was there to have tires installed onto my truck.the representative told me that there was a very bad situation with my valve stems and that they would not be able to perform the install with the current valve stems.the problem with the valve stem is that they were severely corroded and were breaking and fragmenting apart.i immediately contacted chrysler corporation to see if there was a tsb or a recall.they responded that there was not one in effect or pending.upon inspection of the valve stem it was found to be composed of an aluminum stem, brass valve core and a cap of unknown metal/alloy.this combination of dissimilar metals on a component exposed to weather and road conditions is not advisable.there is substantial reason to believe that there is a direct correlation between the dissimilar metals and increased rate of corrosion.this component is subject to failure and would pose a significant risk at a high rate of speed.

Turning right last year signaled left and the blinker blinked right my wife was behind me and later asked why i didn't signal the right way i said i did im not a dumm yi checked things they were fine. The contact owns a 2008 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the floor mat caused the accelerator pedal to stick.as a consequence the vehicle accelerated without intention, and rear-ended another vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 62,000. Updated 11/6/09. *ljthe consumer stated the vehicle he hit was only bumped and neither vehicle was damaged. Updated 11/09/09.

I never know whether the wipers will work when it is raining or not. Usually, if they start working when turned on, they will continue. Although, they may wipe continuously when set in the intermittent range; alternatively, they may work on intermittent even when set to continuous. I have never been able to set the wipers to "high", the fastest they will go is continuous, normal speed. Infrequently, the directional signals will not self cancel, or they will spontaneously being to flash in the opposite direction to the setting. Very strange.
