My driver and passenger airbags are on the recall list. The only service company to replace the airbags/inflators on the island of maui is jim falk chrylser dodge jeep ram, at 221 puunene ave, kahului, hi 96732 on maui (808 280-1774).it took over a year and a lot of complaining until the manager, aaron serrao, saw to it that my driver airbags were fixed last year. Now with the passenger airbags/inflators on the recall list, i don't want to have to wait another year until the parts arrive.is there anyway you can have the repair parts sent to jim falk auto for my repair? when i talk to them, they tell me they have no idea when the parts will come in and that i should just continue to call every few months. This is exactly what they told me in 2014 when i was trying to get my driver side airbag corrected. Now i need the passenger side corrected.this is a safety hazard and i don't not want to further jeopardize my family's safety.also, i had side airbags installed prior to purchase, will these need repair, too?

I was involved in a crash where i was traveling at 45 mph and pushed my brake pedal to stop as i was approaching an intersection. The driver's side front brake locked up and there was approximately a 50-60 ft skid mark only from that wheel reducing the speed from 45 mph to approximately 35 mph during the skid while the other 3 wheels failed to brake. The failure of the anti lock braking system, which was an uneven distribution of braking pressure, caused my truck to fail to stop in time. The distance was well within normal braking distance for the speed. And until now, i had never had a similar problem. The brakes, caliper, and rotors had been replaced in september of this 2012 with new parts. They had been installed correctly and i have documentation to prove that. During the crash, the airbags failed to deploy. The accident was one where my dodge dakota rear ended another vehicle. No injuries had occurred, however the truck sustained approximately $5000.00 worth of damage to the front end and is considered totaled due to the cost of repairs vs the value of the truck. The mileage on the vehicle is approximately 206,500 miles and all maintenance was current and preventive maintenance (as required when under warranty to 100,000 miles)work was completed at both a dealership or an authorized auto repair shop. After the 100,000, work was completed by an authorized repair shop or routine maintenance was performed by myself, owner, who is experienced in auto repair/maintenance procedures utilizing oem / oem approved replacement parts. According to the nhtsa item # 10016024 there had been a recall due to and ecu failure for vehicles produced just before mine was. I do not know how to tell if my ecu is the replacement one or should have been included in the recall, but wasn't. Photographs of the skid marks and damage are available upon request and i have truck at my home.

1)pulled out of a food lion parking lot and hit a pot hole and broke the main spline in the transmission.2) the truck now shuts off as you're going 70 mph and when you crank it back up. The engine light stays on but the rev limiter is kicking in at 2000 rpms until you stop again and shut the motor off, wait 10 seconds and crank it back up. Some times its fine, most of the time it's not. Now the paint is flaking off the top of the truck for no reasons. I've never abused this truck and the only "off roading" it's done was driving in my yard. Please help.

1.drivers airbag light comes on when driver.2.when making a u-turn i hear a loud clunking noise around the tire area. 3.the emergency release brake cable snapped off the release handle. 4.nhtsa just sent me an email regarding a recall on my 2006 dodge dakota quad "left tire rod assembly". ( this could be the cause of my #2.loud clunking noise making a u-turn).

Fca is send my a letter that parts are available to repair the passenger side air bags yet when i visited two dealerships this morning i was told by both that they did not have the parts, nor could they order them.a call to their customers service line the representative says parts are available but no dealership in my area seem to know how to get them.it seems to part of fca continuing scram not to repair their vehicles.something need to be done before more people are injured or killed.neither fca and nhtsa seem to care about safety at this time and i will believe this until i see repairs being made, and not just more vehicles dumped on the american consumer! Back on 1/14/2015 i brought my 2006 dodge dakota to a dealership for replacement of rusted brake lines. About two months later, at 45k mi., my driver side seat belt indicator light started to flicker on start-up. Shortly thereafter it would remain lit after start-up. I waited to request re-servicing my vehicle, only to find out the air bags were on recall. Therefore, i waited until i was given the call to bring my vehicle in for air bag replacement. The date for servicing was 10/30/2015. Upon completion of the ai bag replacement i was told my new air bags would not deploy nor does the horn work. This would require an additional $600.00. The cause of this safety failure was due to a defective clockspring unit. My question is at under 50kmi. Is it normal for this safety component to fail and is this a constant in other vehicles? it seems to me that placing faulty safety related equipment in vehicles only increases profit margins, over and above the normal maintenance expenses.

Engine was replaced prior to purchase truck was sold as new engine replacement was not disclosed, continuing transmission problems, replaced transmission at 8800 miles, vehicle shut off while in motion on freeway, multiple exhaust leaks, hub fan replaced. When a problem repeats itself the dealership claims it to be "normal". Dealer principle unwilling to address issues. I continue to hear noises and have transmission issues. Dealership will not do any work on the vehicle unless i go when its convient for the "technician" to duplicate the issue. Dealership lied about engine being recalled as an explanation for the replacement of the engine when in fact there were no recalls relating to the engine. Dealership claims all repairs are normal when in the manuel it only states maintenance is required at high mileage not replacement before 10k.

The steering gets hard to turn like it is going to lock up.i spray it with wd40.this happens every few days.the electrical has been screwed up forever.i turn the left turn signal on the the right one blinks and vise versa.some times they both blink back and forth.i have talked to the local dodge garage and all they say is that there is no recall.i wasnt notified by dodge about the driver side airbag either.looked up the vin number after seeing a report on tv.that was 2 months ago and the dodge garage just fixed the air bag on july 21 after i called them for the second time to see if the part was in. ).i am writing to inform you of safety concerns i have with my 2006 dodge dakota laramie (4x4 quad cab).my issues are with the transfer case / transmission of my truck.1.my truck has shifted into four low on its own at low speeds in both reverse and at low speeds moving forward. 2.when i am not in the vehicle my dodge dakota will try and shift into four wheel drive on its own (like i said, no one is in the vehicle).3.when i hit my unlock button, my truck will try and go into four wheel drive.4.while i am driving both at high and low speeds the 4 low will flash and periodically the svc four wheel drive light will illuminate for a few seconds and then go out.5.when the vehicle switches into four wheel drive (intermittently) the tires feel to be skidding or locking up.

I took my vehicle to my mechanic because my dash light stopped working. He said that there was a recall for the instrument panel and the recall should cover 2006 models. Can you please see if there is any way that my vehicle just got missed.

The past few months i have had the abs light coming on and off with the gauges all dropping and not working. Today i was sitting in park when my horn came on and all the dash lights came on then the wipers and sprayers started going off while the radio was switching through channels. I saw on this sight that the problems look similar to problems of vehicles that were recalled. After calling the manufacturer they are telling me that even though the problems are similar my vehicle isn't under this recall for 06 dodge dakotas.

2006 dodge dakota 4x4 quad cab, 4508 miles, failed master switch for power windows (switch for right rear window does not work). This master switch failed a month after purchasing new in 04 august 2006. On my second visit 16-nov-2006 to the dealership, they found the switch to be defective again. Now i have to take the truck in again to get the switch replaced for the third time. Dodge claims there is no recall but the master switch is on back order. Makes you wonder if dodge is not revealing something. I have driven almost 50 to 60 miles round trip to get this resolved.

I noticed that the windshiled wipers would come on by it self, as time went on the dashboard lights and stereo would go off for about 4 seconds; later the horn would blow and the wipe fluid would squirt, then i would get a aweful shock when i touch the gear shifter. Abs light wont even flash or give warning and truck slid a bit. No accidents to report, yet. This has happened multiple times after braking when the needle dips below 20 miles per hour. Thats why i give plenty of space between cars when approaching a light just in case the truck slides. I have complained but dodge keeps telling me my vin number has no recall for my abs ecu. There is a recall for abs ecu but not on my vin number but i am having the same issue for the abs recall. So they will not replace it. You can feel the brakes lock up when it does it. Im also having a probem with my ignition swith. At times it will do a no start. That is also on the recall list but i was told again my vin number wasn't on the list but i have these same problem for the recall. No one will replace these items if your vin number isn't on the list even if your vehicle is having the problems reported for the recall. When something serious happens then who will be to blame. My vin number was recalled just for airbags only. These problems need to be fixed asap before serious injuries may reslt.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. When the contact placed the key in the ignition and started the engine, the key would come out and the steering wheel seized. The contact had to use excessive strength to turn the vehicle and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to rick hendricks dodge (1468 savannah hwy, charleston, sc 29407, (843) 352-6931) and the mechanics were unsure if a new steering column and/or new ignition switch was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

"takata recall" the four wheel drive actuator tries shifting into 4 wheel drive even when i don't have the truck running. Also the stock stereo system will once in awhile turn on but now it won't and the acc will not work. My truck also tries to shift into 4 wheel drive while turning into my driveway or a parking space

Numerous front end repairs to no avail. Still having steering issues and loud banging when turning. Wipers coming on at random, battery light on in spite of new battery and alternator. We have spent over $4000 in repairs on from end and 2 wiper motors. The wipers still will not work properly.

The 4wd acuator engages constantly when the truck is not running. It seems to happen mostly when i unlock the doors and open them.

This one simple part effects so much and it is unsafe that this part affects so much. You guys offer it but its close to 1400$. Why is it so much? this would be vehicle number 2 within a year of each other having something bad go wrong it makes it unsafe to drive.it effects my fuel mileage, brakes, spedo and tach go crazy, headlights flash, problems with communicating with transmission, and it keads to the front controle module. My cruise stopped working and it worked before. My key fob has issues unlocking and locking takes like 10 button presses to work. I like your trucks but this makes it unsafe i cant even let my kid ride in my truck with me

We were driving down hwy i-5 in seattle washington.my husbands knee bumped the key in the ignition and the vehicle turned off.this happened 3 times since we have had the vehicle.we have only had the vehicle foryear.

01/26/2015 @ 1545 +- hours pst.driving on cruise control when i came to a 3 way stop.tapped brake to come off cruise.came to a complete stop behind 4/5 vehicles.advanced at idle rpm (750).i was the 2nd vehicle in line when my engine rpm's started increasing.applied hard brake, rpm continued to increase, enough to over ride the rear wheel brakes causing/allowing the tires to spin.i turned the ignition off, shifted to park, re-started the engine.after restart every thing performed as designed.

My oil light comes on when you crank the truck and sometimes it will turn off once you crank the truck again. I've done some research and have seen lots of complaints on this issue said it's either the sensor or the oil pressure descending unit. Is there a recall on this if so i need to get this fixed.we have checked everything else so this shouldn't be a problem y'all need to look into his and get this fixed.

It is constantly overheating throwing off more codes. Passager airbag also keep turning off. Also well driving the car jerks back?

The bolts on the hold the head casket covers are breaking at an alarming rate

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle started vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.

Radiator support bracket rusted away. Radiator could become detached from vehicle while in motion.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.in september of 2007, the contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking oil.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the oil filter.she was then informed that there was a defect in the internal engine and the entire engine needed to be replaced.chrysler advised her to fax all the oil change receipts.the contact cannot afford to pay for the engine replacement.the vehicle is currently in the shop.the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 40,000.

We purchased a 2006 dodge dakota club 4x4 truck intended for our business use and personal use, in september 2006 with 15 miles on it from nebraska, we live in iowa.the first incident occurred shortly after purchase and repaired january 2007, (exact dates unavailable at this writing due to the fact the vehicle is in the shop).the brakes would grab intermittently when descending a hill causing the vehicle to shimmer and shake viciously.the vehicle was taken in and replacement parts were free.total days lost 2.the second incident occurred on may 30, 2007.we were on vacation in wi and the vehicle wouldn'tstart. We were made to wait for a tow truck that had to drive an hour away to be able to tow us less than 15 miles.we had to rent a vehicle (car) that i was unable to use for business purposes, to return home for my spouse to be able to get to work.this meant we had to drive back with the rental to pick up the vehicle. It was 4 days with the rental.the diagnosis could not be made with the tool until the master computer system was replaced.after this was done, nothing wrong. The first time it was used after our return home, i drove less than 15 miles and it did the same thing, wouldn't start.the engine would crank but not turn over.again, no warning lights.i called the towing service provided by daimler, iwaited an hour and 45 minutes.i decided to try it again just seconds before the tow guy arrived and it started. I decided to not have it taken in for repair, the manager of the tow service reassured me, i panicked and it was a vapor lock.oh yeah this was on june 8, 2007 just 4 days after receiving our vehicle back.i believed him. I went maybe 5 blocks, crossed over a busy highway when the whole truck shook (felt like the engine was going to fall out) and stalled, coasted over the hill to safety. We were notified the next day and he said, after driving it 5 miles, nothing happened, tried it again still being serviced.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.the contact stated that the bolts on the exhaust manifold detached, causing a manifold to leak oil.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and dealer stated the manifold bolts needs to be replaced.the contact did not replace the manifold bolts. The failure mileage was 56,900.

Dt: the contact stated the vehicle stalls while driving at any speed.there were no warning indicators prior to the stalling. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer three times who indicated the problem can not be duplicated. The dealer indicated that the manufacturer has been made aware of the problem but a remedy to the issue has not been identified. Both the dealer and the manufacturer indicated that there are other vehicles of the same year, make and model that are having the same stalling problem.

My relatively new (4000k) 2006 quad cab dodge dakota keeps stalling when approaching a stop sign or red light. During one of these events, i was on a hilland approached a stop sign when my vehicle suddenly stalled. It was then it started to roll back and almost impact the car behind me. The vehicle stalled several more times in different locations and where several cars behind me started to move in anticipation of my vehicle moving and almost hit my car. Not risking a potential accident, i took the car back to the dealership repair shop. The shop stated it was the gas quality and no codes were present in the computer. It was also recommended that i should try a different gas! i then did some research on this issue (because i knew it was not the gas) and it was revealed too me that this is a significant problem in dodge trucks. Theresponse from the dealership is also common, with this problem (and it happened to me) that no codes came up in the computer, therefore cannot be fixed. This is a serious accident just waiting to happen.

-the contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact started the ignition and the steering wheel would not turn. The vehicle was towed an independent mechanic for inspection. The technician stated the spring inside of the serpentine tensioner broke causing the belt to slip out of position. The vehicle was repaired at the cost of $161. The manufacturer was notified which they informed that the service repair was not covered under warranty because the vehicle was not repaired at an authorized dealer and the owner would be responsible for the repair expense. The failure and current mileages were 37,027.

Continued failure of the exhaust manifold bolts on dodge 4.7 liter engines. I believe all repairs should be done under the emissions warranty up to 80,000 miles but that is not happening. Heads on the bolts are breaking at 50,00 and 60,00 miles. The bolts being used are clearly of bad design or defective from the factory..first the bolts on the passenger side failed and now the bolts on the driver side have failed. Internet is full of forums talking about this particular engine having this type of problem which has to be a violation of the vehicles emissions requirements.

My 06 dodge dakota with 61k highway miles on it , needs bearing , tierods, and the suspension is worn out, i dot's tow or haul anything heavy with this truck. And from what im hearing from others is the same problem.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the turn indicators failed. When he would engage the left turn signal, the right would illuminate. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 81,000.

My turn signals and windshield wipers do not work all the time. It occurs at random times and i can temporarily fix it by adjusting the steering column.

I took my vehicle to my mechanic because my dash light stopped working. He said that there was a recall for the instrument panel and the recall should cover 2006 models. When we run the vin number it does not show for my vehicle but there was a recall for all other 2006 dodge durango because it is a fire risk. Can you please see if there is any way that my vehicle just got missed.

In using signal lights, turn left signal on to turn and the right dash signal indicator as well as right signallight flash.if i move the tilt steering position up and then back down the lights function properly.this hashappened several times.it sounds like something in the steering wheel is rubbing whenever one turns thewheel.the previous owner bought the truck new and it happened to him several times as well.also theball joints were all replaced by previous owner at less than 30,000 miles.now at 55,000 miles the struts, shock absorbers, rear stabilizer links and quite possibly sway bar links front and rear need to be replaced.

Wipersand turn signals stop working and then come back onwhen they get ready. Malfunctioning.

The windshield wipers and turn signals have been malfunctioning for a few weeks.when i attempt to signal left, the signal turns on to the right and vice versa.the windshield wipers are not reliable when using the switch.both turn signals and windshield wipers stopped working completely.

Turn signal switch turns on right turn signals when selecting the left turn signals. Right side works fine.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the headlights suddenly failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the headlight connector harness and the light bulbs failed and a software update was needed to remedy the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 06v039000 (visibility). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 106,391. Updated 08-20-14updated 08/26/2014

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.while driving approximately 35 mph the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel and fuel gauge displayed empty.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a fuel sending unit was replaced.the failure has since recurred four times and each time the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the fuel sending unit would either be replaced or repaired. The failure mileage was 61,232 and the current mileage was 62,269.

2006 dodge dakota, very difficult to refuel regardless of amount of fuel in the tank. Filler nozzlecontinuously cuts off, shootingfuel up the filler tube every time the cut off occurs. It appears that there is a build up of pressure within the tank as the fuel is pumped into it. Takes approximately 10 minutes to baby twenty dollars worth of gas into the tank at the lowest dispense level with recurring shut offs.problem is not isolated to a particular vendor, but has occurred with several different brands of gas. Definitely a fire hazard and pollution problem.

When filling the truck with gasoline, fuel immediately starts spitting out of the fuel filler neck.unless the fuel is pumped extremely slowly, it sprays onto hands, clothes and the ground.it does this repeatedly and at any level of fuel in the tank. It can take nearly 15 minutes to fill the tank instead of an average time of 5 minutes.even with attempting to fill slowly, occasionally fuel kicks back at the person filling the tank. Very dangerous!

Dt*: the contact stated only one gallon of gas would flow into the gas tank at a time.whenever the contact attempted to fill the tank, gasoline backed up out of the filler neck.the vehicle was taken to service dealer, who determined that 10 to 12 inches of the vent hose was melted.the parts were ordered. Updated 11/30/06.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the air bag and fuel gauge warning indicators illuminated on the instrument cluster. On one occasion, the vehicle was refueled but the fuel gauge indicated that there was no fuel. The vehicle was restarted and displayed the accurate fuel level reading. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v313000 (air bags) and 14v795000 (electrical system) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable timeframe to schedule the recall repair. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the contact's vehicle would receive the recall repair. The failure mileage was not available.

Can not put fuel in the tank no matter how much fuel is in it. Pump kicks off after about 25-35 cents of fuel is dispensed. Fuel occasionally sprays out of the filler neck. Chrysler dealership claims fuel tank needs replaced at approximately $1500 my cost.

Problem when refilling the gas tank. When the tank gets full, fuel sprays out of the gas tank fill port. At first i thought it was faulty equipment at the gas station but it has happened consecutive times at different gas stations. Probably sprays out 8 or 12 ounces.

My 2006 dakota filler tube spits the gas back out onto the pavement when trying to refuel. It takes a very long time to refuel and i understand many chrsyler products are having the same issue. There is a recall on 2005 durango c or the same problem. Why is there no recall for the dakotas?

I noticed that the windshiled wipers would come on by it self, as time went on the dashboard lights and stereo would go off for about 4 seconds; later the horn would blow and the wipe fluid would squirt, then i would get a aweful shock when i touch the gear shifter. All these occur whenever i start the truck after sitting for more than 7 hours, then at any given time while driving with at least 4-5 times and ever increasing as mileage travelling.

Truck has an awd 5 speed 545rfe automatic transmission. The "service 4wd" check light started randomly coming on and blinking while the vehicle was in motion and the transfer control case at times felt like it was attempting to and at times did shift into 4hi or 4lo.this happens without any touching of the control switch on the dash. Dealer disclaims any knowledge of the problem and there are no service bulletins or recalls. A search of the internet reveals that there are hundreds if not thousands of dodge dakota, durango and jeep owners over various model years having this problem, some of whom have spent thousands of dollars replacing the transfer case and control modules without fixing the problem. Those few who have reported fixing the problem have indicated that this dangerous condition where the transmission might shift into low range at highway speed and explode is caused by corroded wiring on the circuit including the transfer case, tcu and air conditioning. At this time the electrical connector at the transfer case is disconnected, effectively locking the transmission in awd status and making all low ranges unavailable. This problem is very dangerous.

Regards to a 2006 dodge dakota clubcab pickup truck. Loud bang from rear end of truck @ a stop @ a toll booth on mass pike i-90 in westboro,ma. Towed to nearby westboro dodge dealer. Rear end from the drive shaft down failed. Could have cause injury or death. Still @ dealership. Truck is out of warranty by 3000 miles. Been in touch with chrysler dealer, they are calling it a defect but want me to pay first $500.00. This is a very serious defect that the dot should be aware of. If i was traveling and not stopped the drive shaft could have fell completely out and caused a crash or even worse. My truck is still not repaired. This happened on july 16 2008. I'm a single mom and took very good care of the truck. It was serviced ever 3,000 miles oil, fluids ect. I'm waiting now on faxes from westboro dodge in westboro ma. To see all of the defects involved. Please contact methank you!

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the front end alignment would shift from left to right and was unstable. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a technician repaired a leak in the transmission line and also replaced a fog light, but did not repair the alignment. An independent mechanic inspected and diagnosed that there was a leak in the pinion seal and the front shocks needed to be replaced. The dealer refused to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67632.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. While driving approximately 35 mph, a warning chime was heard coming from the instrument panel and the service four wheel drive warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled into a parking space and, while in reverse, the vehicle independently shifted into four wheel low. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact wanted the manufacturer to authorize the dealer to service the vehicle. The manufacturer informed the contact that they would forward the request to the marketing department. The approximate failure mileage was 135,500.

The truck has very little power provided due tothe transmission after coming to a stop. This only happens during warm weather. During the colder months of winter the transmission operates normally. Without proper acceleration it poses a safety problem getting into traffic from a stop sign or stop light. This has been happening for the past year during the late spring, summer and fall months.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, he heard an abnormal noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the pinion nut on the rear differential needed to be replaced with a newly manufacturer pinion nut. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000.

I think it's a recall but kinda acts up at up 35/45 mph and then it straightens out. Has 103k miles on it please help me everything has been maintained

).i am writing to inform you of safety concerns i have with my 2006 dodge dakota laramie (4x4 quad cab).my issues are with the transfer case / transmission of my truck.1.my truck has shifted into four low on its own at low speeds in both reverse and at low speeds moving forward.

Just last week at 42,000 miles on the truck and i was told that the steering rack needed to be replaced.i replaced the steering rack and the power steering still doesn't seem to be working only occasionally.i am now being told to bring the truck back into the dealership.honestly, if they would just take this truck back .i don't even want money back for it..just set me free of this truck and loan and i'd be happy.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. While parked, the vehicle switched from two wheel high gear into fourwheel low gear. The service four wheel warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 130,000. ...updated 02/04/16 the consumer stated the passenger side airbag light blinks on and off. The fuse for the 4 wheel switch was pulled. The consumer was unable to switch in low range and no longer had 4 wheel drive.

5/06/09, i went to a dodge dealership because "check engine" light kept coming on & off. This was an ongoing incident that took place on other occasions throughout my ownership of vehicle, but whenever taken to original dealership, the light was no longer on, & the dealership would state they could not find anything & suggested i bring the vehicle back whenever it came back on. On this latest incident, light remained on & dealership stated that they would "need to remove transmission and break down to find internal failure or replace transmission." the codes that showed up were "p1775, solenoid switch valve latched in ttc position" and "p0218, trans-high temp activated." they were siding on replacing transmission stating that i had 72,570 miles on vehicle. I inquired if under warranty, & they stated that i had exceeded the mileage & my vehicle had just passed the 3 year mark the day prior. I then filed a claim w/dodge headquarters on 5/7/2009 to inquire about any recalls or assistance w/a new transmission. I had inquired about recalls because i have always kept up w/my routine maintenance, the vehicle was bought new & had just made 3 years & the miles were mostly highway miles. After several followup calls on 5/8/2009, 5/14/2009 & 5/19/2009, dodge corporate office informed me that they spoke to the dealership, & though rebuilding or replacing the transmission was ideal, they would not assist me w/doing such because my warranty had expired. Additionally, original dealership i had purchased my vehicle from had went out of business, & dodge customer service stated they could not find any record of me bringing vehicle in for same problem. The only thing they offered was reimbursing the $213.98 i paid to have the truck diagnosed, but after submitting my receipt to them. Dealership could not reverse the transaction to reimburse. Since then, i've had other places look at vehicle who tell me they've seen similar problems w/other dodge trans of that year. Trans now slipping.

As i was driving i started hearing a thumping coming from the front of the truck.i immediately took it to my mechanic at monro in tunkhannock.he advised that the sway bar has gone bad.along with 80,000 other people that own dodge dakota trucks, he put me on a waiting list to get the part.it has been 6 months.no recall, and i am still driving my 2006 dodge dakota quad cab truck around with a broken sway bar.the part isn't even available on the aftermarket either.if i would like to trade my vehicle i will take a loss because this piece is broken.now my rack is going bad because of the added pressure on it because of the sway bar being bad.i tried to call and talk to someone at chrysler and they said sorry...not sure when it's going to be available.honestly i want it fixed...i am tired of waiting...and if chrysler can't keep up with their shabby parts...let me trade my truck for a different one and give me full trade in value on the truck.this is wrong!highway robbery at it's best.please i am begging you to please do something.this is my only vehicle and i bought it knew with intentions of keeping it forever because i thought it was safe.i have a 6 year old that rides with me often.this makes me very nervous to drive it with her...but i don't have a choice.help!

1.4wd transfer case changes mode by itself (uncommanded transfer case mode change).2.at highway speeds, console / cluster will indicate one or more of the following intermittently and randomly:service 4wd, 4 lo, 4 hi.i haven't determined if there is correlation to these indicators illuminating and the actual transfer case mode.3.vehicle will shift into 4hi by itself when moving, making u-turns on dry pavement difficult and dangerous.there is no indicator on the dashboard of transfer case mode when this happens.4.vehicle's transfer case shift motor will activate with truck parked (engine off, key out of ignition, parking brake set, in park) and seems repeatable by opening or closing any of the doors.transfer case motor sound is the same sequence (truck is normally in 2 hi) every time.5.manually activating transfer case using dash-mounted 4wd selector knob, while truck is running and moving (4 hi) or in neutral (4 lo) appears to function correctly.

When brakes are applied at 40-60 mph hard braking or soft it vibrates and shakes replaced shocks turned drums. Still there the dealer said it was the shocks it's not.

This truck is a bad problem since i have been done along with the the years i'm tired of drivetrain wheel hubs and front suspension replaces every month.

4x4 keeps activating by itself, even when off or in the highway

I boughtmy truck at auto advantage in hendersonville n.c. In march 2016 to days later transmission went in limp mode they replaced computer three times, then a week an half later happen again this time they rebuilttransmission. My 2006 dodge dakota, 4.7 transfercase is shifting on its own. Even with no key in the ignition. Also when driving shifts in and out of 4x4.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a crash and was repaired; however, the repairs were not completed correctly. After driving the vehicle home the following day the vehicle was unable to shift into drive. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission damage. The transmission was replaced. Also, while driving various speeds, the vehicle would veer to the left or right inadvertently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with several different issues, such as a damaged front cross member, a fractured front passenger side stabilizer link, a worn passenger side upper control bushing, and other issues. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Updated 03/02/17*lj***updated 05/09/17*lj

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota quadcab slt. The contact stated that the information system built into the overhead console would display improper miles to gallon readings and the electrical compass would also indicate incorrect directional readings. The front passenger side window would not function intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was repaired. The failure continued. The contact also noticed that there was water leaking into the rear tail lights, causing the lights to burn out. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. On another occasion, the vehicle was parked when the horn began to sound. The contact had to turn the headlight switch off to stop the horn. The dealer could not diagnose the failure. The failure continued. The contact also stated that the vehicle jerked when he shifted gears. The transfer case was replaced at the local dealer. Upon receiving the vehicle from the dealer, the vehicle vibrated and intermittently hesitated when gears were shifted. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000 and the current mileage was approximately 55,000.

-the contact said that he was driving about 45 mph when he noticed smoke coming from his truck.then contact pulled over at which time he noticed that transmission fluid was leaking which created the smoke.the contact called the fire department they found a small fire under the car.the contact said that he will retain a copy of the report once it is received.the contact called the manufacturer but know one has helped him.the dealer (auto west dodge) at roseville ca, told him the they can not repair the car until the manufacturer tells them.

2006 dakota automatic transmission shifts in to od at 40 mph and below, which causes vehicle to vibrate loudly and suddenly slow down. When ignored, the engine sounds like it will stall. I've taken this truck to local dodge dealer (brigham - gill) in natick, ma for diagnosis and i was told this is "normal".

When traveling on the highway/expressway the automatic transmission does not seem to shift to the next gear.the vehicle begins to shake and vibrate very roughly and will not accelerate to the desired speed.

The clutch slave cylinder on my 2006 dakota x-cab 6 speed manual has been replaced 3 times since i have owned it in the past 6 months.. After looking at forums and blogs, i see this is common in standard transmissions for this truck. The part fails much without warning, and has been in city and interstate driving. I live in a rural area, close to the interstate, not a lot of start and stopping. The last time this happened, sept. Of this year, i was in ct, and in the middle of a city with start and stop traffic, had to shut off my engine at stop lights to stop, then to shift, start again when the light turned green until i could get the vehicle somewhere safe and not cause traffic interruptions or an accident.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact rear ended another vehicle.the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belts failed to restrain properly.the contact was injured.she filed a complaint with the manufacturer, but they have not provided a reference number.they stated that they will send a representative to investigate the failure.a police report was filed.the failure mileage was 22,000.

Passenger airbag was turned on but didn't deploy, did not have seatbelt on because it broke but all others in the accident had theirs on. I purchased a 2006 dodge dakota on july 2, 2014 from crowson auto world, 541 hwy 15, po box 889, louisville, ms 39339.upon getting this vehicle home i discovered that the seat belts were not properly working.on three occasions i returned vehicle to dealer and each time dealer failed to repair this vehicle.i had vehicle inspected at other dealers and found that "seat belt lite and chime do not work" and "instrument safety lights are inoperable".i need help to convince the dealer that it is not legal to sale vehicles with defective safety equipment.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. While driving 28 mph a vehicle suddenly pulled in front of him causing him to rear end another vehicle. The seat belt did not retrain him properly and the air bags did not deploy. He sustained injuries to his head and was taken to the hospital. A police report was filed. The entire front end was severely damaged. The vehicle was towed to the insurance company. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that while turning left at approximately 65 mph, another vehicle crashed into him at approximately 45 mph. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt did not restrain the contact. The contact suffered injuries to his knees and chest as a result. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop here it was being repaired for the body damages. The failure was not diagnosed. The failure and current mileages were 49,000. Updated 09/30/11*ljthe consumer stated after being struck by vehicle # 2. Vehicle #3 was lifted up and turned sideways and rolled into vehicle# 3. The collision forced the consumer down and forward in the seat causing both of his legs to come up and off the floor, striking the dashboard. The movement is what made the consumer believe the seat belt did not lock into place.the consumer was told by others, that the seat belt did lock, but it was the belt that caused the pain across his chest and left clavicle. Dt*:the contact stated the passenger side head rest does not adjust forward or backward.the occupants must slouch to rest their head.the dealership determined this is how the vehicle was manufactured. Updated 09/13/06.

10-23-12. My technician almost had an accident because of his vehicles brakes(abs control module).my tech noticed the stopping light and applied the brake pedal to slow his vehicle.the vehicle did not slow.the tech noticed that the clock went off for a second and came back on.he still didn't have any brakes.right before he came into the intersection the brakes locked up and he came to a complete stop.he took his foot off the brakes and it was still locked up.he stepped on the gas pedal and the brakes released and he parked in parking lot. I had him get the vehicle towed to a local auto shop chain and they called me later that night and told me that they almost got thrown out of the window because the brakes locked up on him.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the abs brake warning light remained illuminated. When driving over a bump, the vehicle made a loud knocking sound. The contact was a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the upper and lower ball joints had become loose and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

While emergency braking going down st.hwy the abs system activated and the petal went to the floor losing braking and i then pushed on parking brake to slow down and moved to shoulder.i then found that brake fluid was leaking around line by the master cylinder @ fire wall. Fluid continued to leak and was able to get to service that will start repairs on 11/23 and to determine possible cause

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that while parked and shifting gears, the brakes were depressed and the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 86,998. Updated 10/21/13

Emergency brake release cable broke off of handle.

Bought the vechile used with 5500 miles on it and have had it back to service 5 times now for rear brake drum warpage. It begins to have a very noticable shutter stopping at highway speeds(55-60 mph). 1st time thru resurfaced drums.2,3 and 4th times thru bad set of drums ..replaced shoes and drums, 5th time dodge refuses to replace anything dealer picked up the tab to resurface drums only... The claim they check for axel runout and checked all they could..dodge warrenty folks won't even talk to be about it other then to say "so sorry" very very very upset my first dodge and my last...

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the driver side brakes were exhibiting a loud noise and smoke was seen coming out of the wheel well. The contact also mentioned that she had to replaced the calipers several time. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated to the contact that the caliperswere defective. As a result, the calipers, rotors, brake pads and the entire brake line would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 146,000.

Vehicle vibrates severely when od (lock-up) comes in at 40 mph , if brakes are applied after this the vehicle shakes and jumps all aver the road. 4 tires replaced twice, front rotors replaced, rear drums turned.upon further inspection i checked all the sway bar items and front end; the sway bar struts were broken, i replaced and problem solved.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota truck. While driving in normal weather conditions, she depressed the brake pedal and the brakes failed. She heard a fizzing noise and the vehicle began to spin out of control until the vehicle crashed and went beyond a small steel fence. The air bags did not deploy. Someone nearby noticed an unknown fluid leaking from the vehicle and she was advised to get out of the vehicle.she was able to climb out of her driver's side window and the vehicle caught on fire. A police/fire report was filed and the fire was extinguished. The vehicle was destroyed. She was not aware if there was a recall for the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were under 79,000.

When brakes are applied at 40-60 mph hard braking or soft it vibrates and shakes replaced shocks turned drums. Still there the dealer said it was the shocks it's not.

Loss of braking but mechanic could find no visible leaks in brake system. Sometimes have full brake pedal and sometimes no brake pedal.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. While driving 20 mph the brakes failed which caused the contact to crash into a fence. Shortly after exiting the vehicle it caught fire. Dodge stated that the her vin was not a part of the brake recall. The current and failure mileages were 79000.

Shortly after leaving an interstate highway in maine, shaking of rear wheel was noticed and 2006 dodge dakota was pulled over. Two wheel studs were broken, nuts missing. All remaining wheel nuts on all wheels were checked and were all loose.upon tightening a third nut on the same rear tire, it broke off. When the rear drum was laterremoved for repair, it was noticed that there were three cracks on the brake drum lining. Alloy wheel rim was damaged.repairs needed to be performed without dealer assistance due to remote location. Original dealer was notified , but has yet to check vehicle. Another dealer was contacted and will perform a safety check. Web searches indicate that deaths have resulted from this type of failure at highway speeds.

Post wheel stud failures previously reported and while repairing the vehicle for that issue, it was noticed that the brake lining on drum from the wheel with the brokenstuds showed three cracks visible. Two cracks were about the width of the lining and one was a smaller fracture on the edge. Original dealer was informed on 10/22/07, but has not responded with r a confirmation for a safety check appointment. Or meeting to discuss the failures.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at any speed or stopped with the brake pedal applied it goes to the floor.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined it was designed that way.

Dt*:the contact stated while approaching a parking space at 5mph, both the accelerator and brake pedal were depressed simultaneously, because there is not enough distance between the two.the vehicle was stopped by turning off the engine.the dealer has been alerted, but the vehicle was not taken for inspection.

I am experiencing "binding" while driving the vehicle at all speeds. Extra pressure is necessary to correct the situation; potentially, this corrective action could lead to the vehicle turning more than desired thusly causing an accident. The problem is erratic - usually ne problem- and can occur unexpectedly during all driving conditions.an independent mechanic has advised that the likely problem is the steering shaft where steering knuckles are located. He stated that the situation can sometimes be corrected by lubricating the components within the steering shaft withpenetrating oil. This temporarily alleviated the problem but the problem is re-occurring. I understand that the next step is to dismantle the steering shaft which may lead to the replacement of parts. I live in ohio with severe winter weather and road salt and suspect that there is a design flaw that allows corrosion to occur within the steering shaft.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. When entering the vehicle he noticed that his knee was hitting the steering wheel because it was very low. The manufacturer stated that they could not provide any resolution since the vehicle was designed that way. The contact is aware of the risk for drivers with a larger stature.the vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 38,000.

Sudden loss of power steering when turning, requiring sudden and unexpected manhandling of steering wheel to straighten wheels.inspection of power steering fluid level, post-incident, showed substantial loss of power steering fluid but no fluid leakage under the vehicle when parked, indicating leakage only occurred when vehicle was being driven.outer tie-rods changed at 57,676 miles.vehicle inspection, at 59,814 miles, showed no leakage underneath, power steering fluid level was at full.inspection of vehicle, at 60,289 miles showed fluid leakage from both rack and pinion boots, worse on the right than on the left.rack and pinion has to be replaced.this probelm was obviously sudden onset with no warning.the sudden loss of power steering constitutes a dangerous and unexpected driving hazard that very well could result in a crash.this vehicle is seven years old, has just over 60,000 miles on it.it has been maintained regularly and inspected every 2 to 3,000 miles.there is no reason, beyond poor engineering, that the tie-rods and rack and pinion should have malfunctioned at this mileage..

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that he experienced difficulty steering the vehicle. The contact also stated that he had to apply an excessive amount of force in order to turn the steering wheel .the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that both the tie rod and the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 48,000. The vin was unavailable.

This latest time (happened 1 month after buying) i was driving and noticed the steering get stiff going either way. It was just a little but over the next two days as i drove i noticed it getting worse. It is not a constant. It is as if something is hung up or catching at the steering column rotates. I am not a mech but i checked the fluid both times this has happened. No leaks, no puddles under the truck. I don't know why this happened now. The only thing i have done different was use the 4x4 a week ago when we had some freaky weather (snow in late may). I haven't noticed any really loud noises, or shimmies, not even rough riding. The mileage is approximately 98-99k and i think it had one previous owner. I bought it from a dealership and there were no known accidents or problems. I have since looked into recalls but haven't noticed any for the steering; plenty of complaints for the steering though. I wish i had known this when i was buying. Can you point me in the direction to go; is there a recall i have missed?

In using signal lights, turn left signal on to turn and the right dash signal indicator as well as right signallight flash.if i move the tilt steering position up and then back down the lights function properly.this hashappened several times.it sounds like something in the steering wheel is rubbing whenever one turns thewheel.the previous owner bought the truck new and it happened to him several times as well.also theball joints were all replaced by previous owner at less than 30,000 miles.now at 55,000 miles the struts, shock absorbers, rear stabilizer links and quite possibly sway bar links front and rear need to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.the contact heard a loud rattling noise coming from the front end of the vehicle.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the tie rod assembly.one year later, the failure resurfaced.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on two more occasions and they replaced the front stabilizer bar, rack and pinion, lower ball joints, and tie rods.all of the repairs have been insufficient in remedying the failures.the failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 47,000.

Whenever the contact would drive over a bump he noticed that the entire front of the vehicle would shake and rattle. The contact also noticed that whenever he turns in any direction the steering wheel will creek and bump. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The contact did not notice any differences beforehand, the current and failure mileage is 53000. Bmlupdated 9/17/09 the consumer also stated the front struts and sway bars were replaced. Updated 09/18/09.

My truck has started having trouble with steering.it seems to happen at just about any speed, but is most noticeable once i get to ~45 mph.as a turn the wheel to the right or left of center, i feel like i have no power steering and really have to wrestle the wheel.when i come back to center, it feels like it's working again, and i end up cranking the steering wheel too hard because of how much power i needed to use to turn away from center.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the power steering assembly. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

Power steering comes and goes. When turning, at any speed, steering is stiff-loose-stiff-loose. This has caused me to oversteer and nearly jump the curb a few times. As i say it comes and goes. It can be hour to hour or day to day. No leaks in the power steering, fluid is full and clean. I have seen a number of complaints for this exact problem in many online forums

Dealership suggested stabilizer bar links need replacement. Replaced both links twice without correcting front suspension "clunking".possible of lower ball joints failing.

2006 dodge dakota 4 x 4 with less than 30,000 miles suddenly needs new inner and outer tie rods and 1 front wheel bearing replaced.all this changed since the last service date 8 months prior - or 3000 miles. Just came out of factory warranty.dodge problem or poor practice of dealership to prey on out of factory warranty customers?

2006 dodge dakota (cab) truck: have had recurring issues with the steering column. Started making a loud squeaking grinding noise. Brought it in and the dealer replaced a bolt in the steering column. We brought it back to the dealer (8 mos later - though the vehicle has been making the same noises consistently for quite a while again. This last time there was "play" in the steering.

Power steering inconsistent, nearly locks up during slow speed turns and is very difficult to turn at highway speeds. This does not always happen, does not matter if left or right turns. Have had to dealer who states no problems with steering. Have had tie rod ends and ball joints replaced multiple times, this helps for a short time, but problem never leaves completely. Am told once again that the ball joints are bad. Quit going to dealer, as i am getting no where with the dealer/manufacturer. Have found huge amount of similar complaints on the internet, and a few on nhtsa site. Would be great if someone would actually find out what the cause is and get fixed before i am in a major crash and or get killed.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn. The contact replaced the power steering pump, but the abnormal noise continued. Also, the steering wheel became tight and was unable to turn left and right. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the rack and pinion may need to be replaced. The vehicle was also inspected by a dealer (crossroads jeep and dodge in prince george, va, 1 (888) 704-5098), but the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: ea06004 (steering); however, the manufacturer had two technical service bulletins. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

On this 2006 dakota, steering is very stiff and makes me over correct the steering with each turn, causing me to jerk the wheel hard. There have been several incidents where i have almost hit parked cars in the process of turning. I have heard many with this problem and feel our 2006 should be included in this recall if there should be one(really needs to be).

The vehicle was purchased 12-14-06 and shortly after i began to experience the bouncing and rolling on the front suspension as well as numerous types of rattling noises. Shocks were replaced on 3-14-07 and front sway bar links on 4-24-07. Since then, front sway bar links were replaced again as well as one tie rod end.one sway bar link was replaced in the back of the vehicle and the other is currently needs replaced. The condition has gotten progressively worse and now includes a front end shaking on almost smooth roads as well as the steering wheel moving left and right in my hands when going around turns.this vehicle is a safety issue as i have to virtually hold a death grip on the wheel to keep from loosing control when i hit a bump, dip, strip bump, pavement waves, etc.

Has developed loose steering.problem exist whether moving or not.though an accident has not happened yet, believe there is great potential for it to happen.

I noticed in november 2012 that the steering on my 2006 dodage dakota quad cab seemed stiff and hard to turn, almost as if it wasn't getting enough power steering fluid - checked it and it was ok. Seemed at first to be stiffer when it was cold so attributed it to winter cold. Then at the end of march 2013, i was turning and heard a clunk as if i had hit a pothole. I heard it again on the same day and then heard a squeak as if the springs needed oiling. I stopped at my local repair shop. The mechanic oiled something - drove it and didn't hear a clunk. Three days later i took it to him and said it is clunking regularly and the steering still seems stiff. He replaced upper and lower ball joints that had gone bad, control arms, and tie rods that had play in them. This at 82,000 miles.these repairs are ridiculous for 82,000 miles. After spending $1400 i am still having tight steering. I don't know about dodge executives, but i can't afford repairs like this. The most complaints listed for this model and year are for steering and i've heard from the dealer that the ball joints go out early - as mine did. This vehicle should be recalled for steering and ball joints!my 1993 dakota is still going without these problems and it has 204,000 miles. If they can't make them the way they used to i'm not buying dodge again. P.s. My sister's 2009 dakota had a broken tie rod, ball joint, and steering issues.they can't find anything wrong with the steering. She is dumping it - won't drive it again.

With the truck at only 53,000 miles i will have had to replace the whole front end.the cost to me is $1085.00.this is obviously from defective parts!dodge already has a recall on the front end of their full size trucks.should it also, include the dakotas?i have approached chrysler about this & was denied compensation.

The steering wheel gets stuck and is very stiff and won't return. Lots of complaints and the all the dealers have these parts on back order.. If there is not a recall there should be the power steering pumps, steering racks and steering control rods are all on back order and not avail in nj, del or pa.... If all the parts are not avail that shows there is a big problem with these trucks.

Power steering stops working causing loss of vehicle control.at the time i was driving approximately 20 mph in town.had power steering fluid leak in the past which was fixed but issue still occurs.today it happened thee times within 30 minutes of driving.i checked the steering fluid and it was full.this has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle since it was a few years old.

I was backing out of my drive way and the tie rod fell off my truck and both front wheels buckled. This is a 2006 dodge dakota truck with greaseless ball joints in the front end. The truck was just in the manufactures shop 2 weeks prior to this for service and they didn't even notice this was about to happen. I'm not blaming them i'm just making a point that there was no sign that this was going to happen. And i know that they looked at the front end because they let me know that my brakes were getting close to needing replaced. And the tie rod isbolted on right where they look to check the brakes. I feel this is a major safety concern for me and other people out there driving these trucks. If this had happened while driving 50 to 60 mph i probably wouldn't be here typing this right now. This is a two wheel drive truck that has never been used for off road driving. I did keep the tie rod and have pictures of it if needed showing how dried out and rusty it is on the inside. So i hope you do give this serious thoughts about looking into this matter. Thank you john!!!

At about 62 k mi. Steering became stiff, especially in cold weather. Check power steering fluid and topped off. Problem seemed to disappear over time. However more recently at about 70k mi. Problem has returned with stiffer steering and then with looseness. Seemingly that i am overcompensating my turns. My power steering fluid is normal.

Steering spontaneously became intermittently stiff / loose in both directions with loss of return to straight after cornering.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. While driving 65 mph, the steering wheel began to lose steering power and seized without warning. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinon failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

Was traveling down a regular road when the power steering became very tight and then alternately a little while later became very loose causing over correction. About a month and a half later while traveling between washington and oregon the power steering went out completely in the vehicle. Had the pump and reservoir replaced as well as intake and outtake lines. Problem was not solved had to then replace rack and pinion, vehicle still leaking after this replacement as well. Vehicle has been to two different mechanics both of which cannot determine what the problem is causing the power steering to malfunction consistently.after replacing rack and pinion was also told that ball joints needed replacement.

Steering winds & gets stuck while turning. I called dealer and was simply told there was no issue w/that.i dropped car off for inspection at a local garage and was told to call dealer immediately. I was informed that the steering could get stuck and cause a serious crash. The shop owner told me that it was a defect from manufacturer and refused to even inspect the vehicle. The dealeragain told me there were no issues with this type of vehicle.i insisted that they look at problem and inspect the vehicle. The vehicle is a dodge dakota quad cab 2006. They reacted as if it was no concern. This is probably because they don't drive their children in the vehicle. I did call them numerous times and was told it was okay to drive. They haven't had any reports of any steering problems. It occurs every day. Thankfully there were crashes or fatalities. The car is at dealer now. They are supposed to check it out on 4/5/2010.i do not trust them to give mea straight answer or report this problem.

While driving my 2006 dodge dakota p/u truck started noticing noise while making any type of turning of the steering wheel.i took to my mechanics who put in some steering fluid.he told me this should help and if problem does return the problem is most likely the steering shaft that will have to be worked on & will be expensive to fix. It was fine for a couple of weeks but now the problem has returned & i'm making plans to take it back to my mechanic to fix the steering shaft.after reading numerous problem other owners are also facing concerning the steering there should be a recall for this.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.the contact was driving approximately 15 mph on normal road conditions.the front passenger wheel began to wobble.immediately, there was a reduction in the speed rate.the driver continued operation with cautionthe vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic.the failure was contributed to a disengagement of the steering strut.the technician replaced the front driver and passengermounting bracket and steering strut.the failure mileage was 13,500.

We purchased a new 2006 dodge dakota in august.after test driving several models we ordered one from the dealership.we were not told that we were test driving a vehicle with tilt wheel.so the vehicle we received had no tilt wheel, which would be fine if you could see the speedometer when the speed is 50 to 70 mph.the drivers are 5'6" and 6' tall.the 6' tall person has the seat back as far as the legs will allow and has the seat tilted back.the 5'6' person is unable to sit up straight in the seat and see the speedometer.upon calling the dealership we were told that the steering column is a design flaw and we are stuck with the problem. We feel this is a safety issue and this problem should be corrected.tilt wheels should not be an option it should be standard.chrysler's service representatives told us that its was our problem, they would not allow us to talk to their managers and eventually hung up on us.we were un able to contact the chrysler regional reprsentative for our area, because they refuse to give out that information.everyone has been quite uncooperative in this situation.

Have had to replace upper and lower ball joints both sides of vehicle prior to 65k miles. Lower front clip/frame, frame mounts and lower radiator support rusting away (under the paint). First noticed problem around 36k miles with surface rust appearing thru paint. Steel has deteriorated to point where chunks are falling off (paint still attached), and some of the steel has turned to flakes/powder beneath the paint. To this date this is the only area of truck frame affected by this problem. Brake lines are showing excessive rusting and will be replaced soon due to concern of rupturing. Have never encounteredbrake lines rusting like these are. Inquired about rusting of frame and was told it is common on chrysler vehicles painted silver. Truck is well maintained and kept clean. My opinion is it's a combination of low quality steel and paint. I am concerned how much this will compromise the integrity of vehicle safety in event of front end collision.

Truck needs struts and parts have been on back order for over 6 months, there is a bolt and nut that cannot be removed without cutting it off because of poor design. The replacement part for the nut and bolt are not available .... Struts are available. This is a known defect in dodges but as far as i can tell there has not been a recall. Truck is now unsafe to drive control arms have to be cut off to replace struts

Loud clunking noises from front end of truck. Took truck to repair shop and was informed that the sway bars and lower ball joints needed to be replaced. Front tie rods were replaced in july 2012.

Numerous front end repairs to no avail. Still having steering issues and loud banging when turning. Wipers coming on at random, battery light on in spite of new battery and alternator. We have spent over $4000 in repairs on from end and 2 wiper motors. The wipers still will not work properly.

Truck is squeaking badly when going over a bump or driving unleevel ground.

Purchase this vehicle one year ago this month, as we were leaving the dealer ship, we noticed a small squeak, really didn't think anything of it, 6 months later the squeak is louder. When back to the dealership and was told, not to worry about it, it was nothing. On june 12th when to get it inspected, and guess what it failed, reason, the front balljoints are no good. I suspect that this dealership knew they were bad when they sold it, now being on a limited income, i can't get it fixed and still have to make payments on it. What can be done about this, this vehicle was only driven during the winter months, since it was a 4x4.

Purchased a 2006 dodge dakota with 29119 miles. Right front tire was worn unevenly. Purchased new tires at 33,325 miles and was told alignment could not be done because lower ball joint had failed. Waiting to check with dealer. Ridiculously low miles for a suspension part to fail.

Dealership suggested stabilizer bar links need replacement. Replaced both links twice without correcting front suspension "clunking".possible of lower ball joints failing.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle would jump sideways when driving over a bump or pothole.the dealer stated that the failure was a normal occurrence.as of december 13, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the failure mileage was 25 and current mileage was 16,600.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota.while driving 10 mph on a muddy road, the contact swerved and crashed into a tree.the vehicle caught fire immediately.the insurance company is investigating the crash and believes the fire was due to an unspecified failure.the manufacturer will be notified.the contact received burns to the arms and legs.the vin and mileages were unknown.

My 2006 dodge dakota is having problem with the turn signal and wiper.while driving, regardless of speed, my right turn signal flashes when i'm turning left.this is a safety hazard that will confuse other drivers.my wiper is also acting up.the fastest speed sometimes works and sometimes doesn't work. It's still working but just the regular speed. If it has speed of 1-5 for example, it only goes to 4.i think this should be a recall of parts or at least no charge when they replace whatever it is that needs to be replaced.reading online, only dodge-chrysller has this problem.

The 4wd acuator engages constantly when the truck is not running. It seems to happen mostly when i unlock the doors and open them.

Wipersand turn signals stop working and then come back onwhen they get ready. Malfunctioning.

Windshield wipers will turn on randomly. This issue happens in all weather conditions and will cycle twice before shutting off. Because this is not during any specific condition dealers would need to take the truck and drive it until the issue arose.

Windshield wipers turn on unexpectedly while the vehicle is moving obscuring the driver's vision which could lead to a loss of control or crash.

Numerous front end repairs to no avail. Still having steering issues and loud banging when turning. Wipers coming on at random, battery light on in spite of new battery and alternator. We have spent over $4000 in repairs on from end and 2 wiper motors. The wipers still will not work properly.

My turn signals and windshield wipers do not work all the time. It occurs at random times and i can temporarily fix it by adjusting the steering column.

I boughtmy truck at auto advantage in hendersonville n.c. In march 2016 to days later transmission went in limp mode they replaced computer three times, then a week an half later happen again this time they rebuilttransmission. Then wipers want stop at times in park when cutoff. Steering has a popping when turning. Now the truck thru4 codes check everything next day check codes has 3 codes checked again went to work codes still on that evening started home no light or codes thrown its like it fixed its self need help to solve problems. Can not afford anymore fixes. I owe two loans both on truck auto advantage would not help on transmission repairs. Never buy from them again worst buy i ever had. Can you help me with my problems?

The past few months i have had the abs light coming on and off with the gauges all dropping and not working. Today i was sitting in park when my horn came on and all the dash lights came on then the wipers and sprayers started going off while the radio was switching through channels. I saw on this sight that the problems look similar to problems of vehicles that were recalled. After calling the manufacturer they are telling me that even though the problems are similar my vehicle isn't under this recall for 06 dodge dakotas.

Windshield wiper arm splines worn smooth, causing wiper to not function. Wiper arm replaced happened again 04/18/2014, this time splines on arm worn smooth and splines on motor partially worn. Not caused by loose attachment nut.

The windshield in my 2006 dodge dakota has a 26" crack, which limits my visibility and is a distraction while driving.this did not happen from a chip or crack, but rather from the poor manufacture design.the crack began on the passenger side, in the upper right hand corner and creates a half moon shape down to the bottom of the passenger side.i was told by a professional at safelite auto glass that this was caused by the manufacture's design which does not properly seal the windshield and causes water to rot out the windshield frame. The tech was also able to show me the extent of the metal rot, but pulling the ceiling cover down and feeling the metal around the windshield from inside the cabin. The windshield frame on my 2006 dodge dakota is all rotted out.the technician refused to replace my windshield due to the fact that he would not be able to replace it without destroying the rotted metal around the windshield frame.he stated that he has seen this problem in several 2006 dodge dakotas.my insurance coverage provides me with 100% full glass replacement.however, because of the window rot, i have to pay a body shop to replace and fix the window rot before the technician will replace the windshield.chrysler dodge should own up to their defective design and have a recall to fix the faulty windshield seals and damage caused by them.having such a large crack in my windshield is a distraction and it could cause a terrible accident.a photo of this damage is available, but not posted.

The windshield wipers and turn signals have been malfunctioning for a few weeks.when i attempt to signal left, the signal turns on to the right and vice versa.the windshield wipers are not reliable when using the switch.both turn signals and windshield wipers stopped working completely.

The contact owns a 2006 dodge dakota. The contact stated the windshield wipers would fail intermittently during rainy weather. Additionally, when starting the vehicle, the wipers would independently start. The dealer replaced the windshield wiper switch yet the failure continuously recurred. The vehicle was not further repaired.the failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage is 29,000.updated 10/21/10. *ljupdated 10/26/10

Mechanics refused to fix or replace 2006 dakota.
