A police report was taken, and the vehicle was deemed totaled.
Passenger's side air bag: while driving at approximately 40 mph had a head-on collision and the air bag did not deploy. Had vehicle in for repairs and they don't know why the air bag did not deploy.

Now my headlights will not work at all but my parking lights will. I have tried to get the dealer to fix it under a recall they won't do it. I know it couldcause a fire.

Night driving, smelled electrical smoke in cab. Headlamps went off then came back on after 5 to 10 seconds. Moved headlamp switch in and out but condition still persisted. Luckily i was less than one mile from home on divided hwy with no traffic. If lamp switch is off then there is no smell of electrical smoke. When lamp switch is in either the parking or the headlamp position, can smell electrical smoke and light work intermittently. This is second failure in 2 years. Lamp switch failed.

Fuel gauge reading very erratic.dealer checked wiring from tank to gauge and found no shorted wiring.also checked operations and found fuel sending unit in tank has contacts shorted causing gauge to read very erratic.this is 5th time sending will be replaced.

Dealer refused to do applicable test to see if tsb was warranted prior to transmission failure.when transmission began to fail dodge only offered to pay half of costs and later reneged on that offer.

This is the 2nd dodgetruck transmissioni have had to replacethe other was a 96 ram with 63,000 and i was told there has been a problem with dodge truck transmissions as the places i took the 94 dakota there were 2 in for the same thing one was a 1999 ram.

The transmission shifted improperly. The consumer changed the transmission fluid, and the transmission seized up, due to wrong information printed on the dip stick.
Automatic transmission coolant lines connectors failed, owner noticed leakage on floor.this part was recalled by dodge on the full-size pickups covering the same year as dakota.owner believes this part was defective and should be recalled.

I purchased this vehecle used, and at such time it was agreed that all and any defects would be repaired. I did not purchase this dodge pickup from the dodge dealer. However, there were curtain things that had to be repaired by them because they were dealer items only. One of the problems is that the latch oneach seatbacks does not lock the seat back, so as if you had a sudden stop, the seatback could possibly allow the back to tip forward enough to allow the whole seat assembly to move forward, causing the person to impact the dash.both the driver side and passenger side are this way. I know that this is not right because i have looked at other dodge dakota pickups and you have to physically move the latch up to unlock the seatback so that you then can move the whole seat assembly forward. I have been to the dodge dealer several times on this matter ,and they say that they are designed this way. They charged the dealer i bought the truck from over $500.00 to repair one seat assembly, and it still isn't right. I asked the dealer for the manufacturer's customer complaint phone number and they did give me a number, which i called. The individual took down the information and then told me that this was a matter that was between me and the dealer to resolve. This is a very serious safety situation and should be taken care off. Sudden near-complete brake failure due to defective bolt holding master cylinder in place to hydraulic brake booster pressure accumulator.on 05-14-2005, my 18 year old son completed his shift at work.he went out to our 1994 dodge dakota pickup and started the engine.as he depressed the brake pedal he heard a metallic noise as if something had broken.he drove to our nearby residence at very low speed.there was no collision, but he reported significantly reduced brake performance.at our residence, my mechanic and i inspected the vehicle.i am a 21-year experienced police collision investigator.we found that the left (driver side) bolt holding the master brake cylinder to the hydraulic brake booster pressure accumulator (aka: hydroboost) had broken off.the bolt appears to be a low grade stud that is pressed into the forward cover of the hydroboost unit.the bolt / stud is of small diameter for such a critical component.it appeared to be over-tightened at the factory (most likely), or wore out due to metal fatigue (less likely as the vehicle only has approximately 51,000 miles on it).there is a second bolt holding the master cylinder to the hydroboost.the second bolt held in place, allowing reduced braking ability.the master cylinder was falling down and to the right at about a 35 degree angle.had this defect occurred at highway speeds, or when pulling a load, a catastrophic collision would have likely occurred.the two bolts appear to be too small in diameter for any vehicle, particularly a light pickup truck.although this vehicle is a 1994 model year, it is still in excellent condition.i live in a semi-arid area, so there is no rust.the vehicle has also never been in a collision and is parked in a garage when not in use.i purchased the vehicle new and have been the only owner.the vehicle has been otherwise extremely reliable.
Front left door snapped off. I can't open the drivers door from the inside. Also, both seat belts snapped, the air and heat doesn't work, the brakes locked up, which affected the steering. The transmission was replaced three timed, the vehicle would loose power and the engine would die. The catalytic converter rattled. There was a rough idle and then the vehicle would stall. The cruise control was inoperative, the tires wore out prematurely. Also, i had difficulty getting the vehicle out of park. The idler arm is in the process of breaking, the ignition broke after the keys became stuck, the fuel pump failed and the bearing and bushing needs to be replaced.

While driving 40 mph a deer appear out of no where and was hit by consumer'svehicle.it was badly damaged and knocked off the road.upon impact,driver's air bag failed to deploy. Recall #627 modified by carl gregory chrysler has failed resulting in key lodging/locking steering column. Driver has lost control due to failures.tt consumer states this recall has nothing to do with the problem she is experiencing there is a continual snapping sound from the front right wheel side of the vehicle, it occurs when making leftturns or when making right turns when backing. The wheel has locked when consumer has been driving vehicle, the bearing has been replaced but has not resolved the problem, when driving straight the vehicle pulls to the right, consumer states it is not the key being stuck in steering that is the problem.
Had received recall notice 95v088000. Took to dealer. Had the repairs done on the steering wheel. The recall remedy has failed. There are holes in the sleeves where keys can catch & shut down vehicle. Has happened at least 4 times while driving in traffic.

When truck was taken to an independent automobile shop for 3,000 mile service check, the left rear wheel lugs: nuts and studs were frozen togetherand could not be removed. The lugs: nuts were finally removed with an impact wrench. The same problem happened twice with the left rear tire, and twice right rear tire.
