When the driver's side airbag deployed the bag exploded to pieces.please describe.

False deployment of air bag while driving, no collision and evidence of minor undercarriage damage.

Air bag deployment was not a result of any collision, only minor damage to undercarriage.

The problem started shortly after i brought the van. The steering column would "freeze" & not turn while making corners sometimes. This happened 4-6 times before the steering finally "brokeloose" and allowed me to steer (it has been for the most part been steering ok since this happened). But, when this happened ("brookloose" in the steering column) the air bag indicator light has been on ever since,(the air baghas ne ver deployed & there is no passanger airbag) & the cruise control will not work sometimes now. I feel this was/is a problem & should be looked at! i would like the mgfr.(dodge) to issue free inspection certificates & then offer to fix this if it a mgfr.'s defect. Only then would i feel completely safe!

The abs brake light illuminates, indicating a malfunction within the system. Dealer can not identify the problem. Please give any further details.

Integrated child safety seats latches failed due to clip falling off.

Glue attaching labels to the seats deteriorated/peels , enablingchild in car seat to peel off the label, could cause infant choking/death.

I'm inquiring about a safety issue with my 1993 dodge caravan. I have four-year-old twin boys (one with down syndrome), and i am concerned about the integrated child seats. In a recent side collision, the harness clips of both the integrated child seats popped open with the children in them. They were not harmed because the collision was at a very low speed. I have since discovered that these clips can be easily pulled open. In fact, both of my twins can themselves pull these clips open.

Harness clip onintegrated child seat can easily pop loose ifchild raises up and pushes out chest. A complaint was made to the dealer for 2 years or more, with tirst child and nothing was ever done about it.dealer was notified.

On thursday, march 24th, 2005 my mother backed her 1993 dodge caravan into her driveway and bumped into her fence breaking the lens on the turn signal. As it was coming into a long weekend with business shut down, she immediately went inside to contact her mechanic to have it replaced/repaired.as she spoke on the phone, she glanced out the window and observed a plume of smoke rising from the rear of the van. She immediately rushed out and found a small flame in the area of the broken lens. She packed it with snow and went back to her call to the mechanic to arrange a time for the repair and to discuss what just happened. During this conversation she again noticed a plume (much larger and darker) rising from the van. She called the fire department who responded quickly, however the interior of the van was totally destroyed by the fire and subsequent intense heat.her insurance agent has since "written the vehicle off" and is offering $1500.00 (cdn) to settle.fortunately she did not simply attempt to drive straight to her mechanic for the repairs or the consequences could have been much more severe.

The engine stalls completly when going at any speed when the brakes are applied to slow down or turning, has done this since we bought it new, have taken it in for several checkups and the dealer cannot locate the problem.this constantly persists and i believe this is a manufacturing defect beacause i have spoken to several people who purchased the same vehicles in 1993, 1994 and 1995.these people just sold their cars or traded in to get rid of the problem.this is an apparent engine defect that chrysler made these cars during these years.i would like to see a recall for this problem,this can and will cause accidents and deaths.

These are intermittent problems, not related to wear & tear, they are computer and/or electrical failures. The car drives fine for hours with no problems at all, then all of a sudden it neutrals out. Turned the car off & on again & it drives fine.

Freon was leaking from air conditioner. Leak was coming from under dashboard.took vehicleto mechanic, and they had to gounder the dashboard,they fixed the leak. One month before,had to put a brand new transmission.then driveshaft belt broke. Consumer has had nothing but problems with this vehicle.left door switch failed.heater core, evaporator, condenser, o- rings and seals all replaced. Starter failed.engine timing case cover, gaskets seals belt and tensioners failed.

The sliding door separated from the hinges, also there was problems with the oil, coolant, ball joints, starter, brake line, tie rod, transmission, exhaust and the front brakes.ts

I am so disappointed in dodge/chrysler i should have bought a toyota. No safety defect mentioned in summary.

I realize that all vehicles need repairs but this one goes to the shop regularly.we have had the van serviced, tuned up and taken care of on a regular basis.i've ask other dodge caravan owners about their van and nearly all have replaced their transmissions starting at 50,000 miles.the transmission is my main concern in this complaint

While driving the vehicle about (40) mph the horn started blowing, windows went up and down, light flashed, doors locked and unlocked and a fire started under the dash behind the steering wheel. Fire department and insurance company believe fire was electrical.

Van cought on fire and was a total loss, the only items remaing was the bumper.there was no warning and the insuransce compant feels that it was electrical.

Engine cooling system fankeeps loosening. If consumer does not tighten fan periodically, it would fall off.

Whenever it rains the fan belt keeps coming off due to the water getting under the hood of the vehicle and on the engine.

The consumer had a brake recall# 96v099000-repairs done, and two months later the brakes failed again.the abs were checked and the consumer was told that they were okay.the first time the brakes failed, the consumer was then notified of a recall.the second incident occured when the daughter experienced total brake failure-on the highway.the vehicle was towed to a dodge dealer and the consumers were told that the brake failure was determined and repairs were done.(but because of the continued problems, the vehicle stayed at the shop for about 2 weeks plus)the last incident happened one month later, where the brake light had come on.per invoice-found that the actuator piston in the hydraulic assembly was leaking-replaced, also replaced the brake valve and brake line, the fitting was frozen in the valve-replaced, found a low accumulater to be defective-replaced, and the rear heater coolant lines leaking anti-freeze.*scc

Engine made a banging noise inmorning, like it was going to blowout. It sounded like no oil was inengine.consumer used up to 1 quart every 900 miles. Consumer has been battling this problem for sometime. Dealer saidproblem involvedvalve sleeve.consumer had to pay $3000 to get it fixed becausemanufacturer wouldn't honorwarranty.the engine problem occured while the vehicle was under warranty but the dealer waited until the warranty expired. The consumer pointed out replacing or repairing the engine out of pocket was very expensive.

Mechanic states that valve failure is extremely uncommon in mini-vans with thislow mileage. The dodge dealer mechanic also atated that they are replacing engine valve at the rate of one vehicle per week on this particular engine. This clearly demonstrates a defective engine and should be covered by the company.

Air conditioner has failed twice;we had it repaired the first time. Mechanism controling the drivers seat back has failed twice, allowing the back of the seat to fall into a horizontal position while driving. We took it to the dealer and had it fixed the first time. When we took it back the second time, the dealer told us to visit a junkyard and purchase a seat there-dealer was not interested in fixing the problem. Seat is now rigged with a cable to keep seat back upright.

This van has had the air conditioner go out at least 3 of the 6 years that i have owned it.now, the abs completely went out almost causing a crash with several children in the van; the brakes are 90% gone! this van has been a lemon and is in need of repair every year.many other things have gone out top include the transmission.what concerns me most is that things like the air-conditioning go out every 1 to 2 years and my extended warranty expires in march of next year.is there anything i can do to get the the air-conditioning replaced entirely due to it always failing?also, i am not sure if my vehicle is fuel injected or not. Item #1, headlight failure. The plastic headlight assembly (both r and l) has become defective with age. The problem began to occur three years ago and progressively has become worse.the nature of the problem is a "fogging" of the clear plasticheadlight lens making it diffuse to the headlight illumination. Very little direct light is available through the "fogged" lens to illuminate the roadway at night. The vehicle has become very hazardous for me to drive at night since so little of the roadway is visible. I own two dodge caravans, (1992 and 1993), both of these vehicles suffer from the same problem of defective headlight lens assemblies.problem # 2, defective abs brake systems.my two dodge caravans have repeating problems occurring with the abs breaking system.dealer service of this item has resulted in continuing brake failures. Complete loss of brakes usually occurs.this pattern of brake failures is consistent with both of my dodge caravans, 1992 and 1993 models. Recommendations:i recommend that chrysler corp. Issue a recall of the headlight assemblies and replace them with a material (glass preferably) that will not deteriorate with time. The plastic in the headlight lenses has yellowed over the years to the point where no light comes out. This constant lack of driving distance vision should not occur on a part which involves safety.the headlights.according to the dealer there is no recall on these plastic lenses.

Both headlamps are developing a cloudy appearance, rather that water white clarity that was present when the car was new.the side-lights that seem to be made from the same material are still clear indicating that the problem is damage within the headlights, probably due to ultraviolet damage.i notice that cars driving beside me at night seem to produce a better lighting of the road and that oncoming drivers often flash their high beams as if i had not dimmed my own.i have observed other caravan's with similar looking headlights.i don't remember seeing cars of any other type with the problem.

My 1993 dodge caravan has not been changing gears correctly for 1 1/2 years. When it started, i had in to the dealership 5 times in 8 weeks. They found $800 in things to repair but none corrected the problem - changing gears roughly, dropping several gears when coming to a stop, etc. This will happen for awhile and then stop for weeks or months. The dealer and another garage couldn't figure it out. Finally it is showing it needs a new transmission when hooked up to the diagnostic machine - but it still doesn't act up all the time. Reading all these problems on the website for so many years, why hasn't dodge been held responsible to correct this problem for caravan owners!!!!!

There is a related problem.about the time the vehicle shifts into overdrive, this vehicle violently lurches and 7 to 10 times, stops running.there is no indication why this is happening and is very difficult to duplicate to the dealership.the problem is electronic in nature, all electrical dies and takes up to 5min to restart.the car has stranded my wife and children on the la freeway 3 times and the dealership will do nothing about it.a private mechanic will chargea fortune to look at the electrical...cheap compared to the lives of my family.please look into this.thank you.

This complaint is in regards to the defective gen3 seat belts in my 1993 dodge grand caravan.when putting my son in his car seat, i have hit the latched seatbelt with my elbow.the seatbelt comes unlatched with just a slight push.

Tie rods went in the front. Brake pads had to be replaced. Then driving on the highway during rush hour traffic ilost the brakes. Pulled over and called to have the car towed in. When we became aware of a problem within the abs brake system on this van we took the van to our mechanic ronnie poe.he informed us that this was under recall, we then took the van to manassas dodge on june 8, 1999, where they supposedly fixed the pump compressor on the abs brake system.on july 29, 1999 the abs brake system failed again.i had the van towed to manassas dodge in manassas va by henry's towing.the tow truck drive as well as a co-worker witnessed that the abs brake system light was on and the brakes were not working.manassas dodge could not find a problem. They sugested that my "rotors" had caused the problem.once i received the van back from manassas dodge, my husband inspected the rotors and found no problem with them.again on september 18, 1999, while my husband was driving the abs brake system failed, the break pedal was hard and had no pressure in them.once again, this problem seemed to have corrected itself.i contacted the daimler chrysler recall center on monday, 9/20/99 and advised them of the problem.they gave me a file # of 6251453 and advised me that the "wheel speed circuit" may be what is causing this to happen.at this point i am very frustrated and very concerned with my safety in driving this van.you never know when the brakes are going to go out on you.your help in finding a timely resolution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

In bayshore.upon their diagnostic test, they concluded that the abs system was not working.after checking with dealer for repair parts, it was concluded that this system was a recall.i have no vehicle to go to work and dealer refuse to provide a rental.they gave me an appointment for august 16, 1999 and stated they would only do repairs if indeed it is the abs system and if there is a recall on the part.as per their computer information, the dealer states that it was repaired in 1996.i purchased the van in 1996 and do not remember having it repaired.however, as per your recall database, if there was a repair done, the warranty on all abs components was extended to 10 years or 100.000 miles.i have used 94,947miles since i purchased the vehicle.please assist me in any way you can to prevent injuries or accidents.

At this time, owner was still trying to work with the dealer and manufacturer. The ownerhad to drive a rental vehicle at his own expense.

I own a 1993 dodge grand caravan.. I discovered a factory recall through odi pertaining to the specific named vehicle concerning service brakes,hydraulic : antilock brakes that specify summary. I never received a recall notice from dodge/chrysler about this defect.nevertheless, by coincidence on 03/05/1998 i brought the1993 dodge caravan to an authorized dealer complaining about the abs not working correctly.the dealer did not apply the recall remedy and claimed that the abs was operating normally. Documentation available.on april 20, 2007 i brought the vehicle to an independent auto center again complaining about the abs not working correctly.they diagnosed the problem as being a defective brake actuator piston assembly, and informed me about the referenced recall campaign.on june 6, 2007 i brought the vehicle to the tate dealership and the defect was remedied in accordance with the referenced campaign.i then telephoned chrysler to be reimbursed for the previous abs diagnostic expense and chrysler refused the reimbursement because the diagnosis was not performed at an authorized dealer.the reimbursement provision of the referenced campaign does not require that any previous abs expense had to be incurred at an authorized dealer in order to be eligible for reimbursement.

(abs) malfunctioning of the abs braking system resulted in complete loss of braking ea94-028. The vehicle stalls while driving the vehicle.

Abs brake pump failed while driving, consumer states the vehicle was taken to the dealership prior to the failure, however dealer checked about other recalls instead of the one that was the problem with the abs.

While drivingabs warning light came on. 20 seconds later,brake light came on, and the brake pedal would not move down. The brakes did not apply, and vehicle continued into a parking lot. On january 5th on our way to a wedding the brakes on my van became hard and it took longer than usual to stop, at first i wasn't sure what was going on (i had the brakes fixed recently). On monday coming back from picking up my kids it happened again, my husband told me then that something like that had happened to him just the day before. Called reagal dodge and they schedule an appointment for the 9th. They told me right away that the abs system had other components which were not covered under the recall. I said to only fixed whatever was cover by the recall. On friday the 11th they called and said that the warning lights were still on but the brakes were working fine. A week after on the 18th the brakes failed again on my way home after picking up my kids. This time the brakes were really hard and the car took almost half a block to stop completly. Took the car to my mechanic and this was his diagnosis. "problem appears to be a bad abs/master cylinder assembly. This is a warranty item and should be covered by the dealer. Tried to contact regal dodge with no luck, left to messages and sent an e-mail asking them for an appointment they never answer until i call the recall center number on the notice, they agree to see the van if i agree to pay for the diagnosis in case the problem wasn't abs related. I didn't accept. Is the dealer right when they say some parts are not covered? can i have my van fixed by my mechanic and be reimbursed? wasn't the dealer required to do any recall job on a vehicle before selling it? i understand this recall was issue on june 1996, they sold me the van on october 1996. I have a 93 dodge caravan se and i heard some noise coming from the abs which i was told it was normal for anti- lock brakes. I've had the van for less than a year. I just found out, that a recall that was suppose to be replaced years ago, as not replaced, just looked at. The abs on this van is known to be defective, and has a lifetime warranty on the van. I contacted dodge, and they refuse to fix it, and tell me they cant diagnois it because they dont have a tool. With is bs. They offer to buy the van at below market value, like 1/3 of what its worth. This is a low mileage, special equipment handi cap van, worth atleast 6k... They offer 1951. Iim mostly upset because upon the original recall, it was not replaced, and was left alone with the original defected part. I think that is fraud, and against what a recall is about. Plese check into this, or advise what can be done.

Windshield wipers do not stay in clips, stratch windshield. In heavy rain windshield wipers will travel all over windshield. Dealer replaced part, defect is still occurring.

Consumer received recall 99v189 and took vehicle to dealer for repair, dealer informed consumer after repair that wipers did not go all the way down when in the off position, consumer did not have any problems until recall work was complete, after about a week, the wipers would not work so consumer took back to dealer, dealer stated the problem was with the motor shorting out which was unrelated to recall and would not be paid for, consumer is unhappy that dealer will not pick up the bill since problem didn't occur until after recall.

Consumer had recall repairs (99v189000) done on 20-sep-2000, however while driving in snowy and icy condtions, the wiper pivot that consumer thought was repaired broke, consumer took the vehicle to the nearest dealership and was informed the recall was not performed and the original wiper pivot was still on the vehicle, even though the dealer stated the repair was never made, consumer was still responsible for the repair bill.

Consumer was not able to obtain recall repair (99v-189) dealership retained vehicle for two days without completing repair, consumer removed vehicle without completion of repair due to delays. *mjs
