The drivers side airbag deployed while i was driving down the road, my arm is swollen, burned, and bruised.my nose and head have hurt for the last four days.

Consumer was at a complete stop and without vehicle collision occurring the driver's air bag deployed, hit drivedr's right hand and arm. Driver continues to suffer pain in arm.
When vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-tracker trailer, vehicle was going about (20) mph, tracker trailer about (50) mph, there was no deployment of the driver's side air bag. Vehicle repaired.

Consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle at about 40-45mph, anddriver's side airbag deployed, hittingdriver instomach,and allowing driver's head and chest to hitsteering wheel. Dealer has not seen vehicle.

While driving, ventilation system blows out cold air, and heat gets luke warm.heater core and thermostat have been replaced.consumer states that the pins on the driver door hinges keep falling off.

Recall # 96v099000, dealer is not able to detect problem with abs when tested. Consumer is experiencing braking problems with abs,intermittently. When braking there is no braking ability. The abs light comes on and stays on.the brake pedal needs muich force to stop the vehicle.the abs unit makes a grinding nois.the consumer had received recall notic but the vehicle did not need service at the time.however, the recall problem occured after recall had expired.the engine would not start.

Fuel rail leaks onto super-heated exhaust manifold - extreme fire/explosion danger. This is precisely the same problem as in oficial recall of slightly later (1996 -...) dodge/chrysler minivans. Many other identically registered complaints at nhtsa for same year model as mine.believe this to be a chrysler design/safety defect. Outrageous repair cost for consumer to bear the brunt of chrysler safety/design flaw. Opinion: chrysler is negligent.

The fuel rail distribution system is an incompetent design.it will allow, at any time fuel to be disbursed onto the engine.in our attempt to get repaired, we were told the part is on national back-order (yippee) and further efforts to use recycled or parts removed from other vehicles found that the leak is prevalent in all that we tried.no new parts seem to be available throughout the country because this problem is growing more widespread.gas evaporates quickly on the warm engine and it is nearly impossible to see unless the engine is running.check the fuel rail on a running engine at the neck-down point.
I have been informed by the dealer that my van's fuel pump had a short in it.according to them, the short was the reason why my van stopped 5 times without warning, burning the fusible link.the van stopped three times on the freeway while i was driving up to speeds of 65 mph and once in the middle of a busy intersection!.there was no warning each time this occurred.the first garage replaced the fusible link, separated the wires in the link, and then replaced the ignition switch all to no avail. Then the van was taken to a dealer and the problem according to them was a short in the fuel pump.the next day the van again stopped, the dealer said they had erred by accidently pinching the ground wire of the fuel pump while installing it.each time the van was repaired i was told they thought they had solved the problem.when i called dodge headquarters to inquire if they had heard of similiar problems or complaints i was told by their customer service person that they could not respond to my question. I hope that this dangerous condition has been repaired this time.i'm concerned that the van would suddently stop without any warning at any speed day or night.i could have killed someone or been killed.

A fuel leak occurred at the connection between a flexible fuel line from the fuel tank to where it joins a steel fuel line on the rear axle.the fuel leak was caused by failure of the crimped aluminum connector.the connector was severely corroded to the point where it broke.this allowed fuel to leak from this connection whenever there was pressure in the fuel system.

I own both a 1991 and a 1995 dodge caravan... The 1991 has numerous problems, including a back hatch that won't stay up because the area of the frame that the shock latches into is broken due to a stress crack.. This makes it really hard trying to get things in and out when you have a baby.. The driver seat also falls backwards and does not stay in place. The gauges do not work, with no known cause...both these vehicles are white in color and the paint is peeling in the same exact spots on both vans. It's across the hood and across the top. All i have to say is, because of these problems - i hate my vans and probably won't ever purchase another caravan.

When doors are securely locked, they cannot be opened from either inside or outside when using key. When doorsare closed, all the locks would lock on their own.
Front passenger side door latch failure, passenger leaned against door, causing it to become open.
Passenger's and drivers side doors do not shut properly. Onecan hear air coming in, doorwas loose.thereis a piece of thin metal wheredoor latches shut. It is wearing because of the material it's made off.the metal on which the door locking device was mounted cracked causing the bolts loose and the door not to close properly.
The door latch mechanism on the driver's side has failed. It must remain locked and can not be unlocked. The passenger side door has remained shut due to not having any locks or latches to keep door shut. Has not taken vehicle to dealer to have locking mechanism checked.
When doors are closed, they, at times, lock up, a second key must be carried at all times.

1991 dodge caravan.consumer writes in regards to anti lock brake system recall and seeks reimbursement for repairs.the consumer stated he paid for the repairs on april 20, 2006 and was charged $376.73, even though a recall had been issued.the consumer experienced abs problems again in december 2013. The consumer stated the recall letter stated if the problem occurred again, chrysler would cover any repairs. The dealer informed the consumer, he had to pay $112 for a diagnostic test, to see if the problem would be covered, under the recall. The dealer then informed the consumer, they didn't have the equipment to test his vehicle, due to the age. However, a few days later, the dealer informed the consumer, they had the equipment, but it would cost $336. The consumer declined the test. Also, the transmission, starter, fuel pump, ignition coil blocks , serpentine belt, pulleys, power steering pump, and radiator were all replaced. Updated 04/16/14
This is the third time the transmission has failed. Our 1996 dodge caravan's transmission has failed also. We put our faith in chrysler products and now we are stranded. I believe chrysler corp. Should be held financially responsible for all repairs as a result of this safety defect.

This is the second time tha ttransmission failed on this 91 dodge caravan. The first failure occurred at 81000 miles in february '99 which was the original transmission when the car was purchased new. The transmission was repaired at a dodge dealership and lasted only 28000 miles the second time. The transmission is a four speed overdrive automatic.
During vehicle operation the transmission became inoperative, causing the vehicle speed to go from 55 mph to 10 mph.

Sudden unpredicted downshift from overdrive to second gear while at normal driving speeds on side streets, main thoroughfares and especially whilst on freeways.the occurence happens while driving, the downshift ('slam down') causes persons in the driving compartment to be thrust forward in a manner similar to a rear-end collision.we replaced the transmission in august, 1998; the radiator was replaced in september, 1998 and heating/cooling system repaired and purged in october, 1998 (we had noted some association with engine overheating, but this seems not to be the case). We suspect electroinc error messages in the program of this 'exciting' well monitored transmission (it is interesting that the computers on board contain no error messages, either because we need to turn off the vehicle to reset the transmission - thus the error message, if any is noted on the 'computer memory' is dispatched to oblivion once the vehicle is turned off, [how convenient]) we took this vehicle to our local mechanic bill's auto care 805-520-7818 for a transmission replacement (including associated electronics) and the replacement transmission (acquired from a local simi valley dodge dealer) does the same thing - we are now on our fourth transmission for this vehicle.the vehicle downshifts at will. A written request was submitted to the mechanic asking for an evaluation of the transmission andpeeling paint.i was given an oral estimate via phone call expressing the need for a new transmission for $2000.00.the diagnosis, cost of repair/replacement of transmission was not included on invoice, nor was the evaluation/ repair cost of peeling exterior paint.. In both cases, the back section of the driver seat collapsed backward. In the initial case, it fell back on my daughter's legs with minimal injury. I replaced the seat and all was well until the start of this year when the back again is breaking. I contacted daimler chrysler and was told in both cases that they had never had heard of this happening before. I have since read of other cases of a similar problem which seems to be a continuing safety problem with these vehicles. Although there was no injury in the second case, i was driving on the freeway at peak hour at the moment and the back just collapsed to 45 degrees.

I own both a 1991 and a 1995 dodge caravan... The 1991 has numerous problems, including a back hatch that won't stay up because the area of the frame that the shock latches into is broken due to a stress crack.. This makes it really hard trying to get things in and out when you have a baby.. The driver seat also falls backwards and does not stay in place. The gauges do not work, with no known cause...both these vehicles are white in color and the paint is peeling in the same exact spots on both vans. It's across the hood and across the top. All i have to say is, because of these problems - i hate my vans and probably won't ever purchase another caravan.
The contact owns a 1991 dodge caravan. The contact stated that the front brake calipers malfunctioned and made the vehicle difficult to move. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit that houses the brake actuator piston and the pump motor assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the nhtsa campaign number 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic) although the recall indicated that the part would have a life time coverage. The failure mileage was 87,000.

Dt*: the contact stated there is a vibration in the front end and the brake pedal is pulsating. This has persisted for 3 years. The tires were replaced and realigned numerous times to correct the vibration, however the problem still occurs. The brakes were replaced 3 times, although the pulsating is currently evident. The vibration occurs around 30 mph. When the vehicle speed increases, the vibration is less noticeable. The manufacturer has not been contacted.

1991 dodge caravan.consumer writes in regards to anti lock brake system recall and seeks reimbursement for repairs.the consumer stated he paid for the repairs on april 20, 2006 and was charged $376.73, even though a recall had been issued.the consumer experienced abs problems again in december 2013. The consumer stated the recall letter stated if the problem occurred again, chrysler would cover any repairs. The dealer informed the consumer, he had to pay $112 for a diagnostic test, to see if the problem would be covered, under the recall. The dealer then informed the consumer, they didn't have the equipment to test his vehicle, due to the age. However, a few days later, the dealer informed the consumer, they had the equipment, but it would cost $336. The consumer declined the test. Also, the transmission, starter, fuel pump, ignition coil blocks , serpentine belt, pulleys, power steering pump, and radiator were all replaced. Updated 04/16/14

The thing i find here is the term regarding piston assembly when i took my van in due to failure only the piston assembly was replaced it should be revised to include the whole unit because a accumulator made of cast iron that is connected to the unit is never replaced rust keeps entering the unit from this accumulator being it is made of a rusting metal and just keeps making the unit fail this is my second repair in 2yrs and the rust is now getting into the lines causing the rear wheels to lock in wet weather all the parts stores that even carry the unit which is few sell it as a complete unit not in pieces such as with other master cly. 's without abs i find cast iron a poor choice for a air tank of a air pump which by nature injects air into the metal cast iron tank stainless steel would been a better choice if it would meet the tank pressures. I am seeking replacement of the entire brake system since it is now a total loss due to the rust and prefer non abs if that's able .

No summary the abs system on this car has failed on three separate occasions at approximately 60,000 miles, 85,000 miles and now at 119,000 miles. Chrysler has repaired the problem on the first two occasions at no charge and appears that they will do the same again. They have also issued a letter indicating that for the lifetime of the vehicle they will do the same. The problem however, as i have explained it to chrysler's customer center is that the system is destined to continue to fail. This is a seriious safety problem. We have been fortunate that no mishaps have yet occurred as a result of the failures, however this can not be assured in the future. The pedal pressure required and the road awareness required during failure may be more than either my wife or daughter is capable of. I have asked chrysler to replace the system with one that has good track record such as in later model vans. The answer continues to be "chrysler will repair the system free of charge whenever it fails." i believe they need to take more responsibility for this issue and insure the future safety of my family by replaing, not repairing, a defective system. The contact owns a 1991 dodge caravan. The contact stated that the front brake calipers malfunctioned and made the vehicle difficult to move. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit that houses the brake actuator piston and the pump motor assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the nhtsa campaign number 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic) although the recall indicated that the part would have a life time coverage. The failure mileage was 87,000.

1991 dodge caravan.consumer writes in regards to anti lock brake system recall and seeks reimbursement for repairs.the consumer stated he paid for the repairs on april 20, 2006 and was charged $376.73, even though a recall had been issued.the consumer experienced abs problems again in december 2013. The consumer stated the recall letter stated if the problem occurred again, chrysler would cover any repairs. The dealer informed the consumer, he had to pay $112 for a diagnostic test, to see if the problem would be covered, under the recall. The dealer then informed the consumer, they didn't have the equipment to test his vehicle, due to the age. However, a few days later, the dealer informed the consumer, they had the equipment, but it would cost $336. The consumer declined the test. Also, the transmission, starter, fuel pump, ignition coil blocks , serpentine belt, pulleys, power steering pump, and radiator were all replaced. Updated 04/16/14

Steering wheel broke off while turning left from a stop sign. It broke mechanism that controls cruise control. Not knowing that it wasn't working after the replacement of the steering wheel almost caused another accident.we were told it was cracked a few weeks earlier, but there was no chance of it coming off.it broke off in front of a grade school, but fortunately it was just after school started and no children were in the crosswalk.it was also fortunate that it happened at the stop sign and not on the highway.

I own both a 1991 and a 1995 dodge caravan... The 1991 has numerous problems, including a back hatch that won't stay up because the area of the frame that the shock latches into is broken due to a stress crack.. This makes it really hard trying to get things in and out when you have a baby.. The driver seat also falls backwards and does not stay in place. The gauges do not work, with no known cause...both these vehicles are white in color and the paint is peeling in the same exact spots on both vans. It's across the hood and across the top. All i have to say is, because of these problems - i hate my vans and probably won't ever purchase another caravan.

I'm not sure i'm listing this in the right section but,my passager door is coming apart at the weld and the body shop man toldme that this is a defect from dodge he fixed it temporary to be able to open the door cause it pushed it up under my fender when it separated he said, it would need to be rpiped all apart and rewelded and painted at about 350.00 also said, that he has only seen 3 of these from dodge like this in the 20 years he has been in business. I'm not sure of all the data of information on the vechicle cause i never got any book with my van.i do love my caravan and when i can afford another i'mgetting me a brand new one one day.thanks for any help you can be debbie evans.

Dt*: the contact stated there is a vibration in the front end and the brake pedal is pulsating. This has persisted for 3 years. The tires were replaced and realigned numerous times to correct the vibration, however the problem still occurs. The brakes were replaced 3 times, although the pulsating is currently evident. The vibration occurs around 30 mph. When the vehicle speed increases, the vibration is less noticeable. The manufacturer has not been contacted.
Ball joints are loose. Wheel cannot be aligned. Would hear banging noises because of loose ball joints. Took to dealer & it was repaired, but problem has reappeared.

A loud clunking noise could be heard when traveling over uneven road surfaces or on right hand turns. After completing a right turn, the driver side front wheel was completely dislodged and folded backinto the wheel well. The lower control arm was fractured where the ball joint was seated, allowing the ball joint to come away from the lower control arm. The driver side drive shaft was dislodged from the transmission.

Sliding door has almost completely seperated from track three times,once falling off with an eight year old child. Please describe details.

Started missing at frist, then a no start. I've changed the timing chain, crank sensor, camshaft sensor, coil pack. Tried a new ecm. There's voltage to the coil pack, but no spark.i've checked wiring circuit, and auto shut down relay .

Squeaky brakes are a consistent problem
Brake line was cut.consumer states abs line rubbed a tire and caused the brakes to fail.cruise control does not work.air conditioner caught on fire.transmission failed.something is wrong with the steering.
The throttle was repaired on three occasions,took to dealer and he repaired the throttle body .
The dashboard pushes forward allowing the spedometer to stick and not operate. This is dangerous because the driver of the vehicle does not know what speed he/she is cruising at and could lead to a car accident.
Turned the ignition on and the truck acclerated without the driver applying the gas, and the driver turned the ignition off and the truck kept on accelerating,causing the truck to be involved in a collision.
Vehicles throttle stuck in open position and brakes would not override.driver hit post office with wheels still turning and smoking.tt
While driving at 45 mph the vehicle had a loud clicking sound coming from the steering wheel and started to shake. The vehicle sounded like the gears were jumpingand it was trying to catch itself. The clockwork spring was replaced to fix the problem.also, the heating/cooling system does not work properly.*ml
While driving, ventilation system blows out cold air, and heat gets luke warm.heater core and thermostat have been replaced.consumer states that the pins on the driver door hinges keep falling off.
Abs brakes failed twice with pedal going all the way to the floor;also replaced transmission/heater core/exhaust system/struts/front motor mount/cv joint.
The a/c blower fan switch gets extremely hot when the a/c and fan are in use, the ignition has burned out four times and has been replaced four times, each time taking with it the a/c fan and power windows, on the last two occasions it as also burnt out fusable links in the wiring harness located behind the brake booster, consumer feels that the extreme heat from the fan switch module backs up through the wiring and burns out the ignition and fusable links, possible electrical problem.

On the 14 and 28 of february,2001left rear wheel locked up and would not move in any direction. Vehicle was towed to dealer.problem was resolved temporarily.
