Transmission failure.
I noticed after my vehicle warmed up a smell of burning oil from time to time when i would come to a stop. Some times smokewould bellowout from under the car at a stop. On 7/14/2001 it did it again, so i decided to take it to my local dodge dealer since the oil leak could potentally start a fire since it wasobviously dripping on to my exhaust system. On 7/16/2001 i wascontacted by the dealership(i purchased the car from an individual) and told the head gasket was blown out and pumping oil down on my exhaust. I was then told by the dealer representative that this is a common problem and that dodge knew about it, but didn't really care. He also told that they knew aboutfrom the beginning of the production run and would (at one time) replace the head gasket at there cost , but since my car has 100000 miles on it then it is my problem. I am a reasonable person and realize that some maintenance problems should paidfor by the owner, but a potential fire hazard such as defective/ leaking head gasket(oil) should be addressed by the manufaturer and a solution should be found, before someone getsburned to death because the oil leak catches fire or the car is lost . Thank you for your time.
The problem is a faulty head gasket that leaks oil into the engine, causing the sensors to shut the engine down, should have been a recall!

My family owens 2 dodge avengers a 1995 and a 1998, the problem is the head lights they are discoloring from the inside and dodge has not provided any way to stop this from happening its a defect in the plastic headlite cover. This situation causes a hazzard when driving at night. I talked to dodge about it and the dealer suggested i purchase new headlight covers for a total of $386.00 each and they admit the new covers will discolor after a prolonged outside exposure. I personally think this is an attemp to gouge the public and i am hoping you all can help. I would be willing to pay $50.00 to 100.00 for a set of new head lights but over $700.00 is way out of line.thank you
Headlight light plastic cover changes color after a period of time. When this occurs, it lessens the illumination of the light. Cover has to be replaced because it cannot be cleaned.

My brother and i bought the same car make model and year. We both have had the problem of when we come to a quick stop and or slowdown we notice that the transmission has slipped out of gear. If we decelerate quickly or slightly above normal and ("i do mean slightly") the transmission slips out of gear and if we are making a left or right handed turn we find ourselves out of gear to pull the car acoss the lane of traffic. I have had some near head on collisions with the car when i slow down and try to make a turn. Coincidentally my brother has the same amount of milage that i have on his car. About 83000. The problem i see is that this car is the template for the chrysler sebring as well as the mitsubishi galant. There is a problem with leaky transmissions and this will cause the component to fail. My transmission began to leak at around 82000 miles and i find that that is a defect that dodge needs to look into. The other defect of my car is a cracking cv boot that causes the cv joint to fail after fluids leak from the joint causing friction to temper the parts to the point of failure. My vehicles right front tire fell off on i77 in charlotte north carolina. Dodge clained at the time no problems. However, i just found out you had discovered the defect. Bravo. You helped me save $150 per period in auto insurance because i could not explain why my tire fell off and caused the accident that almost killed me. I love you guys! chrysler has sent an appology and i need to know if the transmission problem is something they are responsible for as well. When put into drive, transmission does not engage for about 40 seconds, then it goes into gear. This only happens in summer.
Automatic transmission failure.
Whenvehicle is started up and placed into drive vehicle will not shift into first gear. Then vehicle will not accelerate higher than 20 mph. This is due to the rollers being burned out in the transmission. Consumer was told this by an mechanic. Dealer has been contacted.

Brakes continue to make noise; front brakes replaced -- still noise; while stopped at a red light, the transmission acted as though it was in neutral -- had to wait for it to re-engage in gear.the glove box just fell out -- the hinge pin was made of plastic and disintigrated.the front bumper section has separated and is falling off -- this is a plastic piece that encompasses the entire front of the car.the brakes are the real safety issue in my opinion -- they do not feel trustworthy and the noise they make when you put pressure on the brake pedal has continued for over two years. The dealer is totally disinterested!!!!
When child pulled on seat belt to see how far it would come out, seat belt pulled child up into the back window as if it could have strangled the child. Consumer had to cut it loose to remove child.

Seatback broke when i was trying to get my wallet out of my back pocket in a wendy's drive through.i leaned back to raise my rear off the seat and the seat back broke.the seat back rests on the nack seat and it will not stay in an upright position.i took the car to a dodge dealer and they said it would cost me $1016 to fix.i cannot believe that the seat was not strong enough to support me.what would have happened if i had been rear ended?i would have ended up in the back seat or worse. Antilock brake light comes on when raining or car is washed, service dept. Stated that water is entering the brake computer, after it dries out, the light goes out and the antilock brakes start working correctly.service personel stated that this is not a safety recall issue and i would have to pay the entire cost (app. $480.) to replace the unit.i was under the impression that if the antilock brakes (or airbags) became defective, because it is safety equipment, that the manufacturer must replace or fix at no cost if the defect was not due to a crash.

Right front brake system degraded to almost failure with 2 different sets of brakes. One on 7/2/99 and another in october 1999. Each set of brakes were good for about 1000 miles. After that break-in period, the brakes began to grind away and the rotor assembly was then affected. I am looking for any information of the brake system malfunction that may be due to something other than the brake shoes that were installed.

When vehicle was taken in for service because it would not start, one of the front struts was found to be leaking. The strut will be replaced at owner's cost. Please provide any further details.
Front suspension failure.
I owna 1995 dodge avenger has same problem as 2000-2003 dodge durango, ball joints.i would like my vehicle included in the recall. The consumer stated the recall should include the control arm assemblies and compression armsbecause they suffer premature and undue wear by being compromised by the bad ball joint. The consumer had several suspension componets replaced such as the sway bars and sway bar links.
Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component prior to notice, resulting in the vehicle dropping on one side when the ball joint came out of socket, damages to other components as well. (99v-066) mjs
The right ball joint broke while driving 25 mph.
I have had this car in the shop twice in the last year to replace these ball-joints that were supposedly replace last august before i owned it. That means the recall has been done twice already and needs to be done again. What's the point in replacing a junk part with another junk part.

The contact owns a 1995 dodge avenger.while driving approximately 4 mph, the vehicle spontaneously dropped on the front passenger side.upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the front control arm fractured from severe corrosion, which caused the ball joint to fail.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and he is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 99v066003 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint).the failure and current mileages were 142,000.

I have had this car in the shop twice in the last year to replace these ball-joints that were supposedly replace last august before i owned it. That means the recall has been done twice already and needs to be done again. What's the point in replacing a junk part with another junk part.
Consumer received recall notification for ball joints, repair of ball joints was done before notification went out, consumer was denied reimbursement by manufacturer stating consumer did not meet required conditions of recall, due to the fact that maufacturer contacted the mechanic that performed the work, and mechanic stated that ball joints were damaged due to accident which did not happen, consumer is appealing for reconsideration for reimbursement stating there was some type of misunderstanding, between the mechanic and manufacturer.
While driving at 20-25 mph driver's side ball joint broke, andconsumer could not controlvehicle.prior to this,consumer had takenvehicle todealership to getrecall repairs donefor ball joint problems,but what they fixed was passenger's side ball joint.

Ball joints on recall in 1999, had checked, did not fix , said was fine. On 4 28 01, ball joints fell out axle broke and tire fell off while driving...contacted chrslyer on recall part, was told mine was fine..just a "ware" item that needed to be replaced, now there is another recall on said part...chrslyer refused to fix mine in may of 01...now the same part i just had fixed is on recall..i spent a lot of time and money getting my car fixed and body damage has not been completed..my complaint is...chrysler is at fault and should be held resposible for this entire situation.

Consumer stated that the "inner" lower control arm has worn out prematurely.this is the second time that consumer has had to replace component.first failure occurred at approximately 75000 miles. Manufacturer has extended the warranty for the outer control arm, but not the inner one.

All 4 original tires replaced at 65000 miles, with firestones from pugh's tires in greenville n.c. First tire failed (tread came off tire ) at 85000 miles on the car. This was replaced with another firestone, as i didn't want to mix tires on the car. The second tire failed ( steering shaking violently, indicating tread separation ) at 104000 miles on the car. Defroster system fails to keep windows clean w/following setting by owners manual. Area dealers suggested using a/c in winter.
Alarm continually goes off, defroster will not work unless the a/c is activated in the front and rear inadequate defrosting, suspension shaked due to bad bushings. Other things have occurred as well - too much to keep track of.*mjs
