My family and i were involved in a 3 vehicle collision on the freeway around 5:45 pm. Conditions on the freeway, moderate-heavy traffic, it had rained, so the roads were wet.the hyundai suv suddenly slammed on their brakes.i was about 50 ft behind that vehicle, doing the speed limit of 65 mph, i stepped on my brakes, our van began to slide, and ended up rear ending the suv in front of us.neither of my airbags deployed on the van (the driver side/nor the passenger side).my husband was sitting in the passenger seat.my chest hit the steering wheel, but i chose not to have any type of medical aid on the scene.i contacted chrysler immediately the day after the incident at their #800-247-9753 (claim #31347016).needless to say, they took their time & never really got back to me, so when i finally got ahold of someone again, they said they had closed my original case (no one ever got a hold of me on that one) because they couldn't contact me, even though they were given my home address/email/phone #.2nd time (now case #31597130) at phone #800-992-1997, an "inspector" from chrysler finally responded to our address (where van is parked/totalled) did what he called an inspection.i received a letter a couple days from j. Susalla/special investigations at fca (fiat/chrysler automobiles) saying conclusion of investigation "is that the rate of deceleration necessary to activate the air bag system was not present during your accident."basically a cop out and denial that their airbag or airbag system (a very serious safety issue) was faulty in our van, and chrysler is refusing to do anything about.i have attached photos, and a copy of the letter.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country van. The driver stated that when he got into his vehicle and started it, the air bag light came on for 5 to 10 minutes after he began driving. The driver also stated that it would not shut off until the vehicle was turned off. The driver contacted the dealer. The failure mileage was 35,000. The current mileage was 35,200.
My airbag light came on so i went online and found out that there was a recall on the sensor in my area. I took my van to the dealership to be fixed. When they were done they told me that is was going bad, but the airbag light was not due to the sensor. It was due to my clock spring in my airbag system. I have not been able to fix it due to the cost, but the more investigative work i have done, this is another issue that is a major problem with this year and make. I have also noticed that it was a problem for past years of this vehicle and they need to make some changes on the product that is being used.

Airbag light continues to stay on. This vehicle was first sold in california, therefore it does not automatically apply to the j38- airbag sensor safety bulletin.this could be a serious safety issue that chrysler should repair at no charge to the customer.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the air bag warning light flashed and eventually remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. It was unknown if the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v008000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
I have a 2006 town and country limited minivan with 49,000 miles on it. The airbag warning light on dash board comes on intermittently. It started at 48,000 miles. There is no pattern to it. I called chrysler to check on recall after reading the plethora of complaints on the internet of this same problem. Chrysler said my car is not part of recall and will not assume responsibility for problem thus they will not repair it. I am praying for a class-action suite against the company to force them to take care of this issue. It sounds like every 2005-2006 t&c has this manufacturers defect.
I am concerned that the airbags did not deploy, the damage to the vehicle is substantial. My wife and son had both minor injuries.
The symptoms on my minivan are identical to those found in the following recall, but because mine is registered in co, it is assumed by chrysler that this minivan has never traveled extensively in the covered states or that conditions in co couldn't possibly be similar. I'm disgusted with the impotence of nhtsa concerning citizen representation and the suspiciously convenient, money saving partial recall on these air bag sensors. I discovered my sensor failure while transporting my family back from a trip to estes park, co during a heavy, wet snow storm. (go figure!) the warning light came on intermittently for a several months, but eventually stayed on continuously.re: report receipt date: jan 11, 2010 nhtsa campaign number: 10v008000 component(s): air bags
I was involved in an accident in which i was hit by a vehicle traveling about 55 mph and i was stationery sitting at an intersection on a freeway service drive going east and the person hitting me was going south. The impact turned my vehicle southi was waiting for the light to change. It hit me on the front driver side headlight and did $5000 damage. I suffered three fractured ribs and a head and back injury. My airbags failed to deploy.*dt
Airbag light...the computer said the right front airbag sensor is bad....there is already a recall for the make, model and year of the vehicle but chrysler says not for my vin.
My 2006 chrysler town and country touring edition with 77,000 miles has had the air bag light on.when i checked online to find out what it means, i found that there was a recall.i set up an appt. At a chrysler dealership to have it fixed, but found that my car was not included in the recall even though i am having the exact same problem described in the recall.i call chrysler's 1-800 number and found out that my car was manufactured on may 26, 2006, one month after the april 5, 2006 deadline for the recall.my car is not included in the recall.however, i am still left with the airbag light on and the same problem that the recall outlines.no one at chrysler was willing to talk with me to remedy the problem.i was told that i would need to repair it at my own expense.
Description of accident ~van slid on ice, hitting a mailbox.both the upper and lower airbags exploded with apop-like sound, similar to gunfire, emitting terrible smoke and sharp debris, which smelled as though the car caught fire. Noticed several holes punctured as the airbags reached their maximum capacity, showing large burnt-like holes. Both my daughter and i were in the car. She was in passenger's seat, with her backpack in lap, which saved her from injury, thank goodness! unfortunately, my legs were pinned in vehicle, burnt and cut by the airbags & debris. Upon the ambulance's arrival, we noted that my daughter's safety belt needed to be cut, since it would not release for her automatically. She was cleared through the paramedics to head on to school. The paramedics stated that i may have blacked out for a bit, and felt that i most likely had whiplash.their other concerns were the major pain in my left shoulder, and noted the need for me to be seen by a doctor right away. I was driven to the hospital. To date, deep bruising is still extremely apparent, along with being painful. Major scaring remains on both legs due to being burnt and cut. My shoulder and back of neck continue to throb, along with acknowledgment through my doctor's referral, within chiropractic care. He indicated through an x-ray, that i have nerve damage in the back of my neck, which causes pain and numbness throughout my right arm and hand.the van was declared totaled'.please note: pictures of both damage to my vehicle, along with bodily injuries are available.i would be happy to discuss any further details with you.thank you so very much for reviewing my information.should you need any additional information, kindly advise.

I took chrysler to dealer for sensor check--parts had to be ordered--at a later date i took vehicle back to have parts installed--i picked car up in the afternoon and as i'm leaving their lot the airbag light went on--i started to go back and the light went out--i turned the corner and the light went on. I stopped in front of the building and went inside.after about 20 minutes i was told it could be wiring --clockspring.i called chrysler and after going through 2 people i was told chrysler may or may not pay for this,or part of this but i must have it done by the dealership.i asked how dangerous this was and received no answer.i have checked this problem out and it only happens on turns.i'm the owner of a private garage for over 30 years so i know a little about working on vehicles. Looks like i'm going to repair a safety problem that should be done by chrysler myself. Shame on chrysler !!!!

Took a trip south, the air bag light came on while i was driving. When i stopped to eat at a restaurant, and started up the engine, the light was off and eventually came back on. The longer i drove thelonger it stayed on. Now it comes on but not that often. Am i in danger?
I own a 2006 town and country and the air bag has been illuminated for approximately 10000 miles.i noticed that on rainy days the air bag light would illuminate and on dry days it would go off.currently it has been on all the time and it never goes out and my car repair man cannot read the code.i looked up the recalls associated with my van and find that my specific vin is not listed in a recall but i completely believe that the problem is listed in recall 10v008000 but it is not covered according to my repair shop.i am trying to find out what to do regarding this issue.i don't know if it's because i bought it used that maybe it isn't listed in il and that is why it is not in the recall.i just put $800 in repairs in this car but i feel that if the problem is chryslers then they should fix it.
The air bag warning light comes on and stays on for a few minutes, to over an hour, every few days or so, and, due to faulty air bad sensors being an nhtsa issue with 06 chryslers this is cause for great concern for me and my family;for the 1 1/2 years i have owned this town & country i have continual problems with exterior and interior lights, blinking on and off, headlights and/or parking lights staying on after i've turned the lights off and then turn the car off. I continue replacing relay switches and parts. On, the parking lights are staying on after i've turned everything off, and;while driving off normally the transaxle whistles, screeches and bogs down when changing gears, even though transaxle fluid is changed regularly and filter is clean.

While driving the vehicle the airbag light comes on for periods of time and then goes off.we had it looked at by a mechanic who told us that the front airbag sensors are defective and need to be replaced.i called chrysler customer care because i know there was a recall issued for this same defect however are vin # was not among the vehicles recalled.it is clear that my vehicle has the same defect that the vehicles in the recall have.we can not afford to have this fixed on our own and are hoping that by filing this complaint, along with others that i am sure have been filed, chrysler will extend the recall to all chrysler town and country that are having this problem.until then we are taking our chances driving a vehicle that we bought for its safety and reliability.i am disappointed that chrysler has not held up their end of the deal in providing good customer care and will shop other makers when it comes time to get another vehicle.
The contact owns 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that air bags frontal sensor/control module (10v008000) was related to her vehicle. The recall affects vehicles in cold climate states and at the time the contact lived in arizona. The contact recently relocated to indiana and would like the recall repaired on her vehicle. The manufacturer informed the contact that the remedy could not be performed because the vin was not a part of the recall. The contact stated that the air bag could deployed due to the cold weather in the state and fears that it could cause an injury. The contact wanted the manufacturer to perform the remedy repair under the recall before the defect occurred while driving. The failure mileage was 80,000.
I was drive on i-94 when my air bag warning light came on. I found there is a recall for the front air bag sensor on 2005 & 2006 chrysler mini vans nhtsa action number: rq09003. Chrysler's customers satisfaction notification j38. I called my dealer and chrysler and have been told there are no recalls on my vehicle. The recall was for mostly northern states. I currently live in michigan but the van is originally from florida. Chrysler said this may be the reason it doesn't show recall. But said there was no way to get the recall added. How do i get chrysler to repair this very serious safety issue.
When it rainsand i'm driving a day or more the airbag light comes on, and stays on until the day after it stops raining. I am affraid they may deploy, given the problem with the possibility of this happening due toexisting bad mechenisms.i want this repaired at no cost to me.
Takata recall-when it is raining or wet outside from snow or humidity the air bag light is on.if it dries out then the light will go off.this happens if the car is driving or stopped and at all times.i have complained previously about this with no response.it has been on and off for the last 3-5 years.
The airbag warning light came on when i was rounding a curve, and when i saw a deer ahead of me, i attempted to honk my horn, and it failed to honk. *dt

Checking recalls and found nhtsa campaign number: 10v008000 involving airbag sensors. Virginia and tennesse and other northern states were listed but not north carolina. Why was that?. If this is a cold climate issue, my vehicle spends time in the mountains of nc which has a climate like northern states. Should i be worried about my air bags functioning when needed if the same make, model, and year in many other states required a recall and repair?

Well the drivers rear door will automatically open up andre coles itself time after time my wife is making sure my kids were buckled up real well why was john down the road then the door open completely up my wife was hanging on i told off the road to the grassy area go down about 30 balls an hour's slowing down she fell out the door because it opened automatically.*dt*dt*dt
Driving on road at 50 mph. The engine just just off. Drove off the road into woods luckily no accident. The car then started back up right away. I had to reverse into on coming traffic. I had 3 young kids in car at the time as well. Put me in a scary situation. Had work done on ignition system, tune up, belt changes and a few valve sensors replaced. Had this issue occur before with my wife.
Over the years we've left the key in the ignition and the battery has gone dead.chrysler had checked it out several times and found nothing wrong with the ignition switch.we've replaced the battery twice.the first battery leaked and destroyed the harness, which chrysler paid part of.the second had partial replacement.my opinion is something is wrong. Things are supposed to automatically shut off after 15 minutes, so the battery should not have gone dead.this has happened at least 4 times.we had to charge the battery numerous times.we learned to take the key completely out.we're not sure about anything but we want the problem documented.the problem has never been solved.since we've been fortunate not to have had an accident, i have no idea if the airbags are functional along with other things. The dates are off, but chrysler knows when we where there.
I have experienced inconsistent performance of turn signals and windshield wipers.upon activating the turn signal to indicate a left or right turn the turn signal will at times activate for the opposite direction or not activate at all.it will also activate intermittently - it will activate properly then suddenly turn off or switch directions and then switch back to the proper direction.i have had similar problems with the windshield wipers - they will suddenly turn off and then with out any change in controls resume wiping.i have not been in a situation where this has caused an accident but i could imagine such circumstances.
This car has experienced many electrical problems over the years some of which i've been able to deal with.the latest ones in the past year have to do with the lights and it's getting to be a safety problem.within a few years of purchasing this auto, the automatic door lock on the slider stopped working.about seven years ago, the automatic window on the passenger side stopped working.i have dealt with those problems.over the years there have been many light bulbs that have 'burned' out including taillights, parking lights, low and high beam lights.i've found ten receipts for repairs on those, but the most of them have been in the past two years.i was driving on a highway in the dark yesterday and tried to switch from low beam to high beam lights and they are 'burned' out again!both lights were replaced 10/4/17.i'm afraid that i might find my lights not working at all because there's an ongoing problem that no one seems to know how to repair.this is not safe!!
Vehicle head lights do not turn on; after starting vehicle we switched on the headlights and nothing happened.sometimes we turned the vehicle off and started it again and they would magically come on.sometimes we flipped the headlight switch a dozen times and they magically come on.the condition would not happen when we would take it in for service.the high beams would work if we pulled the lever towards the drivers seat.there were many times we would be out after dark, go to leave and have no headlights and the lights would work when we took it in for service. We were finallyable to get it in this past summer when the lights were not working; the headlights began shutting off while we were driving the vehicle so were able to get in when the condition existed.themechanic said the bottom of the fuse box was corroded (a common problem with this model he told us) and a lot of the wires running into the fuse box were corroded and the box needed to be replaced along with some wiring harness.after replacing the fuse box and some of the harness.the headlights still did not work for the mechanic.he then replaced the switch and headlights began working.the headlight problem is a common problem we are told. We have paid almost $800.00 for this 'fix' that has plagued this vehicle for years and were able to finally diagnose 'after' the warranty has expired, while risking our lives.the frustration of trying to get somewhere with the lights shutting off, while driving; or going somewhere not to have head lights turn on;having to drive with high beams was/is unsafe to our family and other drivers.
Issue #1:as i was driving on a rainy day and went through a puddle, i lost steering capability.the wheel just stayed in the same place that i was going in...imagine that happening while trying to turn...accident waiting to happen...i took it back to where i bought the vehicle and was told nothing is wrong with my van.i took it to another dealer and they said i have to go back to the place i bought it to get work done on it....for years i took it in to no avail...then as i made 60k miles i did a tune up on my van and changed the serpentine belt even though it did not need it and you won't believe it...my issue had went away...i didn't know i was supposed to go behind the maker and make sure my vehicle's nuts and bolts are secured on a new vehicle!issue #2:the passenger side air bag has a recall, but local dealer won't fix it, my dealer won't fix it saying i passed my 36k warranty miles what gives?i need it fixed!issue #3:as i was driving 65mph on a hwy, my van shuts off stunded i drift to the shoulder to restart and be on my way this has happened may times if i have anymore that the van key in the starter then it turns my ignition offi need this fixed this is an accident waiting to happen just like ford and just like the ones chrysler has just recalled.
While driving on the interstate all of the gages in the cluster went to zero (mph, guel, engine temp) and i had no directional signals or emergency flashers....updated 09/28/15 updated 11/30/2017
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that immediately after refueling, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 8/10/15the failure was diagnosed as a defective canister in the fuel tank. Updated 08/18/15
First time this happened when i was slowing down to come to a stop. The van shut down. No brakes. No steering. Put vehicle in park and it started right up again.it happened a 3-4 more times after that with similar circumstances. No rhyme or reason to when it would happen. On june 12, it happened again. On june 19, i took it to a mechanic who checked it out and said he hooked it up to different computers and couldn't find anything wrong. He drained the power steering fluid and put in new fluid. Today, on 7/29/2014, i was driving to work and slowed down to make a right hand turn and the van shut down. I had no steering or brakes as i was turning and almost hit a car on the opposite lane of traffic. I was able to pull over, put van in park and start it up again. It scared me so much i was shaking. Something needs to be fixed.it is not normal.
Electrical problems.driving on vacation in heavy traffic (dc area)signals quick working.the left signal quit and then when i turned on right the left came on.eventually all signals failed.(july 16, 2010)it continues to happen occasionally.aug 8 the sliding door lock on driver side will not work except manually.nothing repaired yet.can't find the problem.noted others having same issues.
We own a 2006 chrysler town and country. On wednesday may 25, 2011, my wife was driving the vehicle when it started shuddering and the engine light came on and smoke started coming from under the hood. She immediately pulled over and got out of the vehicle. A passerby told her that he called the fire department. When they showed up they popped the hood and extinguished the fire. We contacted our insurance company to havethe vehicle towed to advantage chrysler, dodge in mount dora, fl. We had also purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle. We have since been informed that the vehicle is a total loss. I have also filed a complaint with chrysler concerning the incident.
Passenger door locks just stopped working then door all together stopped working and know will not close even manually.
Starting when my 2006 chrysler town & country van had 29,0245 miles on the odometer, the passenger side window began to behave erratically.some days the window would go up and down when the driver's console switch was pushed other times it would respond to the switch on the door.other days it did nothing when the switch was pushed.after approximately 6,000 miles, but while mileage was still less than 36,000, the window refused to work at all no matter what switch was used.i have asked various dealer service departments if they have successfully repaired similar situations.the answer is always no.i ask if there is a recall out on this problem.they say no.since this is similar to my problem with my 1997 dodge caravan where the windshield wiper switch refused to turn on the wipers, even after another, certified correctly operating stalk switch was installed and all wiring checked.the wipers still worked mechanically when the "wash" position was pushed.finally i had to have a new "body control module" computer installedand all this took three trips to the dealer and cost $741.19, i did not want to leave my van to be "experimented upon" (with me paying the bill).i believe all this is the result of the installation of a defective computer module (which they call "body control module") during the manufacture of the vehicle.i also think i should not have to pay to have it fixed as the vehicle was basically "programmed to fail" due to the use of defective parts. I authorize the national highway traffic safety administration to utilize my description(s) to discuss this matter with chrysler corporation.
Lights flicker, gauges drop to "0" and radio shuts-off
I was driving at approximately 65mph. On the highway. All of a sudden, my instrument panel started to flicker( the lights) as well as my headlights.then all gauges began to abruptly malfunction. Including: the speedometer's needle started spinning 360 degrees over and over. Forwards and backwards. The fuel gauge went to e. The temp. Gauge went to coolest indication. It continued extreme malfunction all the way to my destination. When i stopped, turned off the vehicle, then restarted, the gauges ( except speedometer) returned to normal function. I performed mini diagnostic utilizing the (reset) mileage tab. It failed to fix the problem. Have no way of knowing my speed going on 6 months now. Very nerve racking, and dangerous.
We have had problems with our town & country since we bought it a few months ago.there is a problem with the electric.all of the gauges, radio, dash lights flash on and off erratically.the worst part is that the car completely shut off one time.it went completely dead!i put it in park and tried to restart it but it did nothing.some people came over and were offering to push me to a safe spot.i was very grateful because i had my two small children in the car with me.i tried to put the car in neutral but it wouldn't even let me shift gears.i just kept trying and trying and trying to start it.it finally started again and i hurried home.another scary incident happened just two days ago when we had a lot of slushy rain and snow coming down.the flashing started again and then the windshield wipers stopped working.i could not see anything!luckily i made it to a side street before running into anything or anyone!we have spent about $2k trying to get the problem fixed to no avail.i called and emailed chrysler but since it was just over the 80k mile warranty, they weren't interested.they said i could buy a new warranty but it wouldn't cover pre-existing conditions.i have read many other online posts about others having this same problem with their town and country.i hope there is something you can do!thanks for your time!
Window goes down without issue, but it only goes up intermittently, especially if the auto down feature is used and window is allowed to go the whole way down.this is happening on both the passenger and driver's side front windows.
Intermittent guage cluster problems, engine not starting even though battery/cables and alternator have been tested. Intermittent engine shutdown while driving and wont restart. Seems to be battery cable wiring harness which is a discontinued part from the dealership. Basically this issue is not repairable, paid alot if money for this van, for chrysler to say,"we cant fix it".
Turn on right blinker and the left one activates. At times the blinkers do work correctly yet it is getting more persistent this issue is occurring. This is a severe safety issue as people cannot tell you are making a turn due to blinker failure.
Passenger reading light started to blink and went out. I removed cover and the light socket assembly had melted.
My 2006 chrysler town and countryhas 160,000 and reverse doesn't work i'm really tired of these car transmission failure so expensive to fix
Airbag sensors were corroded and cracked causing the airbag warning on the dashboard to display -- warning driver that the airbags were inoperable and would not provide the enhanced airbag protection as these sensors were designed todo.in other words, the airbag would not deploy if a front end collision occurred.
Aux, dvd and satellite sound stopped working, then the driving sliding door wont open, then the driver side power seats stopped working , then the air bag light goes on and off.the dealer wants 110 dollars just to look at it . Any ideas ?
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the map lights failed to illuminate. When the contact checked, she found that the sockets had burned and the entire lighting system shorted out and drained the battery. The failure recurred two more times. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or mechanic to be diagnosed, however, the dealer was informed of the issue and stated that the center console needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. The vin was not available.
Faulty dummy light triggers for airbags.goes on and off with rain and or excess humidity/moisture.driver window also stops working when subjected to moisture.vehicle seems to start having electrical issues of all sorts when subjected to moisture.
My vehicle went from 70 miles per hour quickly down to zero, on the highway. The engine completely shut off, while i was going 70. I was able to pull over and turn off the engine. When i restarted the car, it seemed fine.this was frightening and very inopportune. It was about 50 degrees outside at the time.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the check engine light would sporadically illuminate. The contact stated that all of the warning lights would do the same and and the gauges wiould fluctuate rigorously. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer several times, but was told they could not duplicate the failure. The contact also stated that the passenger sidetail light was replaced three times. The failure mileage was 46,674 and the current mileage was 55,683.
The airbag warning light came on when i was rounding a curve, and when i saw a deer ahead of me, i attempted to honk my horn, and it failed to honk. *dt
During the past 4 years i have had to replace my turn signal light bulbs coutless times.i just thought that the bulbs burnt out not really questioning the frequency of replacentment. However, after realizing the sockets were being burnt out and replaceing the socket from the remaining ones available and had no more.i deceided to go to the dealership to buy new sockets for the rear lights that controled the turn signals and stop lights. I was told by the don-a-vee chry dealership that the only way to replace was to buy the whole lighting unit. They then informed me that there were numerious conplaints regarding the burning out of light bulbs and the dealership had replaced the units if the van was under warrentiy. I am a single mom and was not that educated on electrical system to think something could be wrong. I was told that the problem went away after installing new back tail lights, i was finally able to afford the two rear units and installed them. I was please to a have all my lights working again. However, to my dismay 2 days after the installation of the units i find that the problem is still there. The vehicle back tail light unit has blown yet another bulb. This is very dangerous as it can cause the safty hazard lights, turn signals and back up lights not to work properly. This in turn can cause a accident and possibly fire in the car electrical system. No where is it possible to just buy the light sockets .i have connacted several dealerships and have looked on line. I have gone to many auto stores to find a replacement light socket but to no avail. I can not afford the replacements of these tail light units over and over again and again. Help....
I have multiple issues with my 2006 chrysler town and country. The first is that it cuts off unexpectedly. This has happened multiple times most luckily while stopped at an intersection or stop light but it has cut off on the interstate recently. It also has a light issue, the lights will cut on and off by themselves, i have woke up during the night to find the headlights shining in the house when they do this there is no way to cut them off, they will eventually cut off by themselves. Another problem i have is the power steering whines when i drive it especially down the highway. I have checked the fluid and it is full.
Side window electrical does not work also doors will lock and unlock without me touching controls it has done this for several years and i can't afford to fix it.
My chrysler town and country van started having what looked to be battery issues at the beginning of 2015. The engine would turn off and all the dash dials would begin to puslate until i turned it off and restarted it. At first it would do this only when it was raining out, so we changed the battery and it seemed to work. Then one afternoon it just completely shut down as we were driving down the road, sun shining, and completely dry out. We check the battery connections and replaced a few, seemed ok but then it happened again! this time as we were driving down a 70mph highway! thankfully the highway was not busy as the moment and near our exit and were able to safely get to the side and restart the van. We continue to take it in but everyone has told us "no engine light, no engine code, sorry can't help you." we have seen others write about this same problem and are now bringing it to the nhtsa.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While driving various speeds, the headlamps operated intermittently. In addition, the headlamp switch had to be tampered with several times until the headlamps functioned correctly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the headlamp switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. When the vehicle was off, the instrument panel lights operated independently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
The turn indicator intermittently activates in the wrong direction while attempting to change lanes. Occasionally, the blinker flashes in the opposite direction from where the blinker was moved. After several attempts of moving the turn indicator to the desired direction, the problem resolves. The driver has to pay close attention to where the blinker is flashing despite placing the lever up for a right turn and down for a left, in order to safely change lanes. This has occurred with several different drivers of this vehicle.
At times, my electrical system goes nuts.all the dash lights flash on and off repeatedly, the rear windshield wiper goes on and off.i'm unable to unlock the doors using the electrical buttons.
Ignition switch shuts off while driving and engine stops running. Possible from bumps in road or bumping key ring with drivers knee.has happened more than three times.
The switch that operates the turn signals, the wiper/washer, and the high/low beams fails as such: when signaling left at times the right indicator comes on, and visa versa. When operating the wiper "on" switch, nothing happens until you signal or use the high/low beam part of the switch. When trying to lower my headlight beams the switch will at times fail to lower them until a separate action happens with the switch. All of these failures are sporadic, and will appear apparently when there is moisture in the air through rain or fog. (when you would not want them to happen at all). These are safety recalls i am asking for because the dealership, even though we have an extended warranty says they cannot do anything unless they see it happen. Most of this happens after hours or when the dealership is not open. I have had the vehicle to the dealership on three separate times. A recall would cause them to be obligated to do the repair. After researching this problem on the web have found many 2006 town and country minivan owners have experienced the same issue. Please issue a recall on these. I am sure other years are affected because that switch is widely used.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000(air bags, electrical system). The contact stated that the part needed to remedy the vehicle was unavailable. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Normal city driving, 35 mph, all dash function lights came on including, check engine, airbags, oil etc.all mechanical gauges (mph etc.) stopped working. Gear selection lights (prd12) all lit.trip computer stopped receiving information. Interiorfan stopped working.headlights came on. Total electronic disruption but engine continued to run.stopped, restarted, all dash lights again came back on - climate control fan, radio, interior lights, door locks worked, headlights came back on (switch turned off).cold start next morning - same problems.replaced battery, same problems.can't determine operating status without gauge readouts, speed, temp etc. Not working properly.door locks not working at times.electronic rear hatch and side sliding door not working at times.afraid to drive the van.
Signal light would flash right, when indicator was switched to flash left. Fortunately this only angered several motorists, and accidents were avoided. Checked for bad grounds in accessible places, all wiring appears intact. Replaced signal switch arm and module to successfully correct issue.
While driving after dark the headlights turned off with no warning and would not come back on.the only way that we were able to get any headlights was to pull the turn signal lever back and hold it on high beam flash setting for 5 miles to home.this has happened before in the last month but we were able to get the lights to come back on by turning off the switch and turning it back on quickly a few times.that did not work this time and the headlights would not come back on at all for 3 days other than by pulling and holding the signal lever back.i searched the issue on the internet and found an ap article about this issue for my model year vehicle that stated this is a known issue to chrysler caused by a faulty headlight switch and they would provide a lifetime guarantee on the headlight switch (http://news.yahoo.com/chrysler-guarantees-minivan-headlight-switches-200307486.html), and that they would replace them free of charge to owner after they start having this problem.i contacted my local dealer regarding free replacement and they stated my vin is not in the system for this guaranteed part replacement.i then contacted chrysler regarding this repair and their response was the same as the local dealer, that there was nothing in their system for my vin and this repair would not be covered.i am filing this complaint because this is a major safety issue, losing headlights after dark with no notice and i want to make sure that my problem is counted in your database.i am very unhappy with chrysler's refusal to correct this issue and i will end up having to pay for this safety repair even though it has supposedly been resolved by chrysler.
When purchased in 2009 the vehicle had a just under 36000 miles on it and needed the electronic lock/unlock mechanism replaced on the passenger rear door. At ~40000 we had to replace the rotors and brake pads. We bought ceramic brakes with life time warranty.vehicle returned to the service station 4 times in the next 6 months for squealing/grinding brakes.each time they had to shave the rotors because they were warped.we were told this was a default with t&cs.we again need new rotors.the awful grinding noise when braking is horrific.late 2010 the air bag light started randomly going off and on when turning the wheel.though i am registered at chrysler.com i never received recall information but have recently found there was a recall for this exact thing.now, at just turned 64000 miles we need a new engine because of a rod.yet again we were told by two different service stations that this was an issue with these vehicles.frustrating does not even begin to describe what we are going through now.1 parent out of work for a year and 4 children to support which requires a vehicle to drive to work since the area does not believe in mass public transit outside of riding a minimum of 4 buses to go 20 miles.
2005 & 2006 chrysler town & country: wiring damage by rodents causing multiple electrical systems failure including transmission failure to shift and non starting of vehicle. Material in wire insulation appears to attract them. We own both vehicles above and problems occurred in 2009 & 2010.
I was not told by procare that my vehicle had been wrecked previously before buying my vehicle...i have had nothing but problems with my 2006 chrysler town and country...i have put over 2,000. For repairs and i am still making payments on this vehicle...i have took it to spitzer in mansfield, ohio (paul) stated there is nothing he could do it was something electrical...i have took it to rex gilbert and he is an electrician...he stated there is nothing he can do...i have took it to 6th street repair...they tried to fix it but vehicle still wont start, wipers wont work, door locks do not work, it is now at a another body shop and he stated there is nothing he can do...i have been without a vehicle now for over 1 month and i am ready to just turn it back in....i would like to either get another vehicle or a rental while we find someone to fix my van...i love my van but it has been such a headache and its frustrating to myself and to these mechanics....i have to catch cabs, buses, use my daughters truck, use my sisters car, and this shouldn't have to be...i am making payments of $336.00 a month on a vehicle that doesn't run....this has been happening for the last 2 winters now. They (mechanics) @ different places have put a new starter, new battery, front control module...and nothing seems to help....please help solve this issue....thanks...
Received a safety recall from chrysler about a safety issue for dashboard light several years back.made appointment with chrysler dealer and when i went there, they said they didn't have the part.they sd they would call me back .... Nevercalledmeback .....several lights still staying after engine is put into gear .... Never sure when to check brakes .... Abs system .... Even engine check comes onand off occasionally .... Was there ever an electrical problem acknowledged by chrysler town & country lg stow and go models???
While driving during a rain storm i drove through a small puddle and the power steering system went out as well as the electrical system. I was able to pull the car into the closest drive after struggling with the steering. Anytime we hit a puddle or there is heavy rain something goes wrong. Someone is going to get hurt if they are traveling and the steering goes out.i just got back from the store just now and it is raining again, hit a small puddle and now the check engine light is on. This vehicle is not safe to drive in the rain!
When pulling out of a parking lot flames were seen in the side view mirror coming from the driver's side rear tail light. The plastic light encasing was kicked out and snow thrown on the flames. The blinkers, dash board light, and speedometer no longer work.
The interior lights intermittently go on and off.the headlights fail to turn off even when switch is off, causing a dead battery if not noticed.headlights suddenly turn off even though switch is on.
When i attempt a left turn,,,left turn signal doesn't work,,when i attempt a right turn, left signal flashes, when i try to activate my windshield wipers,i have to blink my high beams for the wipers to work. And on occasion, when i turn right, both signals flash.
Vehicle is driving fine on highway, check engine light comes on, then airbag light, then seatbelt light.within a few minutes all dashboard lights are on and all dials (speedometer, oil gauge, temp gauge, rpm gauge) are all at zero while vehicle is driving at about 65 mph on highway.also, periodically the car will start and immediately turn off multiple times.after waiting a day, it will start up fine and then the next time, will start then stop.vehicle has been taken to the dealership 3 times and most recently they have had it for 2 weeks with no luck finding any issues.we just keep getting charged for them to look at it without finding anything.
I bought a 2006 town and country lx in may 17, 2006.shortly after a year i had to replace my brakes, not only my pads were gone but the rotor was damaged and i never even got a warning, than april 2008 i had to replace my power steering bracket.in may 2009 again my brakes and rotors were gone. June 1st 2009 my van died. I had to buy a new battery. July 29 my driver side mirror fell down. And now august 7 my front a/c wont work but the back does.
2006 chrysler town and country mini van . When it is rainy or damp outside(foggy) the van is difficult to start and keep running afterthe weather clears up and dries out the van is o.k. Approximate 40,000 miles and problem free up to this point.
Driving vehicle on road, slowing down to turn right into driveway, turned on right turn signal - instead of the right turn signal coming on, the left turn signal came on.i turned it back off and tried once more - again with the same results.i made the right and vehicle immediately stalled.i could not turn my wheel, could not control steering, but luckily it was a driveway with no oncoming traffic.i was able to crank the engine and restart the vehicle and made it further into the driveway before the vehicle stalled again.again lost steering control.now vehicle will not start, simply turns over and cranks but no engine starting.
Car cuts off while driving
1) low tire pressure light illuminated.filled tires, which were within 1-2 psi of recommendation, to full psi. Light remained on.filled tires again. Light went off. One week later, same occurrence.took to dealer, tires were filled again.light is off.2) one week after 23 point inspection, and for two weeks brake and air bag lights flickered momentarily when turning the car on and when turning the steering wheel, which was accompanied by acessation of radio/cd transmission/sound. Within the last four days, all warning lights flicker in both of the above mentioned situations with resultant radio/cd sound cut-off.yesterday, 2/23/08, i left the door and lights on for 3 minutes (took keys out of ignition) to help a friend into her house.upon returning to vehicle, and turning the keys to start the vehicle, nothing worked, no sounds emitted.it is completely dead.i am now checking the battery and the electrical box and getting the van ready to be towed to dealer.the contract with this lease car will end may 30, 2008.
While driving at night, my headlights went out, very scary and glad i wasn't on a curve or bridge.i played with the switch until the lights came back on.this happened about 3 or more times within 10 minutes, luckily i was close to home.i had the headlights checked out at a garage and they couldn't find anything wrong, since the lights do work at times and you can't predict when the failure will happen.i believe the problem is in the switch. I don't want to waste my money fixing something i believe is a defect that chrysler should take care of.my garage suggested i check to see if there may be a recall.this has been happening for almost 4 months now so i don't drive the van at night. This is dangerous.
Issue- driver window stopped working then sometimes it closes very slowly then stops. During the winter i opened the window to get gas and window would not close.seen same make and model with similar issues.issue 2- air conditioner front condenser gets damage allot with stuff coming off the road especially on highway. Creates a hole and very expensive repair. 3 times are ready this happened.issue 3 - rust forming next to tail pipe on passenger side of van. Rust spreading now to under carriage of door. To much damaged has occurred before noticing the rust on the side. Expensive repairs.
Driving down the road and the taillight blew and it burst into flames, pulled into drive was flames were shooting out the taillight is the a recall on the electric system.
This is an ongoing issue with the heater control switch. The temperature knob will not change from cool to warm. After i turn it fast back and forth, sometimes it may trigger the change. This has been happening almost a year. All other controls on the unit work fine. I have talked to many mechanics who have said this is a regular issue and one friend said he had replaced so many of these control units on this vehicle that he cannot even begin to count. The danger is when you cant use the defrost. When this first happened, i was picking up 5 children from grade school. Just driving down the road all a sudden the defrost stopped blowing hot air. I live near chicago and the temp was below zero. The windshield fogged and iced up and nothing i could do. Luckily i was a block from home and had enough vision by using hand to clean windshield that i made it home. When i let kids out i went to pull car inside garage and couldnt see and hit side of garage and broke side of passenger mirror. This part costs on average of almost 400 dollars and is easy to change. This should not happen on any car under 85,000 miles. This is a seriously dangerous problem when the defrost goes out while driving in sub freezing weather. With this being a issue that so many mechanics have said this is a serious issue in replacing so many of them, there is obviously a serious defect in the controls on the switch. This is a very dangerous safety concern when the defrost temps changes or stops working while driving. This has also happened in summer on a humid day while driving 65mph down the interstate. Thank god i was able to pull off the side before any accident. I believe chrysler should also reimburse anyone who had to pay for this repair. This is a very expensive repair for a problem and part that takes 60 seconds to repair and replace.

Prior to this incident, there were no issues with the vehicle. No service lights were on and the vehicle seemed to be operating normally. At 11:00 pm on the night of the incident, i looked out our window and saw our van on fire. The fire was located in the front of the vehicle, primarily on the passenger side dashboard. The windshield and the passenger side window had been blown out as a result of the fire. The fire department responded and put out the fire. The vehicle was damaged beyond repair and is a complete loss. The fire fighters on the scene looked for signs of arson and indicated that there was no evidence of arson and no accelerate was noted or smelled. The report we received from the fire department indicated that the cause of ignition was failure of equipment or heat source, the heat source was electrical arcing, the item first ignited was electrical wire, cable insulation and the type of material first ignited was plastic. It also indicated that the factors contributing to ignition were mechanical failure, malfunction. The car was towed to the nearest dealership, which happened to be where we purchased the car five months earlier. The dealership refused to provide a loaner car even though our vehicle in under warranty through 36,000 miles. It currently has approximately 29,000 miles. The event remains under investigation and the dealership has indicated they believe we should file a claim with our insurance company. We have refused to do this as it is our belief that this issue occurred due to a defect within the vehicle and it should be covered by the factory warranty.
The passenger side map light not working, so found how to remove cover to replace bulb. Bulb was not blown, but the housing was blackened and melted. Bought a replacement at a dealer and it wouldn't fit! tried in both driver's side and passenger's. Parts guy there was surprised that it wouldn't fit, so filed the plastic for me so it would fit. It lit for just a second but wouldn't stay lit. He refunded me. I've been reading where this has happened to others. Is there a recall?

The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that there is electrical failure with the instrument panel.all of the panel lights flicker on and off at all times.he took the vehicle to the dealer five times and they replaced the alternator, battery, and a few major electrical connections; however, the failure continues.the failure has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased.the failure mileage was less than 100 and current mileage was 18,000.
Instrument panel lighting in several years of chrysler town & country and dodge grand caravans around 2006 have no provision for getting speedometer and tachometer lighting increased; this makes those instruments literally invisible in low light conditions as around sunrise and sunset.this condition is always present and is a very dangerous condition.i pointed this out to two chrysler dealers, but got no help!

Vehicle engine completely failed.frozen, never to turn again.oil levels were fine, oil change religiously. Engine burned oil like crazy, but i was aware so i was on top of it.outcome:new engine at the cost of $4000.failure was: a piston bearing that just fell apart.engines do not fail at 79k unless they are poorly built.chrysler should reimburse.
Filled the tank with gas, started driving was making a turn and the engine conked out. Luck was with me, as i was not in traffic at that time.
My son hit a 2000 pound cow at 40 mph.it was standing in the road after a curve.he never had time to hit the break but stopped instantly. It hit head on and then flew up into the windshield.the front end caved in and the radiator was bent into the engine.the van is a total loss.the airbag never deployed.we checked on line and other years around our van had a recall but not ours.i reported it to chrysler but they said airbags don't go off when you 'drive through an animal'.i've known people who have hit deer with less damage and their airbags did go off.
2006 chrysler town country. Vehicle uses approximately 1 quart of oil every 2,000 miles. This has been doing this since vehicle was purchased new. Was told by dealer normal oil consumption. Oil usage is through exhaust system that causes damage to catalytic convertor that restricted exhaust gas flow.vehicle restricted exhaust gas flow caused engine power loss sufficient enough not to be able to maneuvers roadway grades. Vehicle not being able to maintain posted speed limit caused vehicles behind to pass that almost caused head on accident. Catalytic convertor was replace at owners expense for safety reasons. Was told by dealer vehicle is more than 10 years old and out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the check engine and air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Had just filled my gas tank and drove approximately half a block in distance, went to turn onto a side street and car stalled causing loss of power and steering in the turn.there have been a few previous incidents occurring after filling the gas tank (sometimes engine sputters, sometimes stalls, and twice the engine revved after restarting after filling the gas tank).
Have owned this unit for over 1 year, after purchase in 2013, noted that on fuel tank fill up, after leavingthe gas station, the engine would either die, or stumble.potential hazard at the stop light pulling out into traffic. Would only happen after full fill up and not every time. Being aware of thisi could plan accordingly. Research shows that the stumble or die happens withthe purge system activation after eng start and short driving, ie, leaving gas station .if you do some research on line you will find the threadsthat lead you to the same conclusion.as a mechanic, i do feel thatthis issue, as reported in the press, is as big a problem if not more than the gm key recall issues. ( i have one of those cars too. )
Engine stall after refuelling
Engine stalled after refueling.
I had just filled up the gas tank and was departing a gas station.it was a large parking lot, so i was accelerating to merge onto us-19 in homossassa springs, fl and the engine stalled completely.luckily, we had not exited the gas station parking lot and i was able to steer out of traffic and come to a complete stop.this has happened multiple times since the first occurrence, without injury, or accident.ever since thethird occurrence and a review of online literature, we never completely fill up the gas tank anymore.
The vehicle will stall after filling the fuel tank, usually within the first quarter mile. It will stall one or two times, requiring a restart, often in the middle of an intersection or pulling into traffic. This happens nearly every time the fuel tank is filled. There are many online forums that attest to how common this problem is in dodge caravan, chrysler town and country, and jeep models.
Right after filling up her 2006 town and country with gas, my daughter and 2small children pulled out of the gas station into a busy intersection and the van sputtered and stalled out right in a busy intersection. The van did restart and thank god no one was hurt or killed. Then 2 min. Later it stalled again. It started again and was able to get it home.i am her father and have some background in auto mechanics. I did some checking and it seems there is some problems with the charcoal canister on the fuel tanks that are the problem with these vans. Sounds to me like there should be a recall for this problem before someone gets killed. I know if my daughter and granddaughters get hurt or worse, i will sue the pants off chrysler.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. In addition, the contact mentioned that the vent fans stopped working and the check engine light stayed on. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions. There was a loud whining noise coming from the engine compartment. The failure occurred whenever decelerating and traveling at an high speed rate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three separate occasions for the identical failures. The technician was unable to locate the problem. The vehicle has not been repaired for the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000. The vin was unavailable.
I have had multiple incidents with my van of it totally shutting down while driving both at high speeds and low. I have had it checked by chrysler and they replaced a cam shaft sensor twice. The vehicle always restarts but all but one of the incidences when it shut down have left me/us in a very dangerous situation. Chrysler tells me they can not diagnose unless i do not restart the vehicle. I have a case # with chrysler of [xxx]. The most recent incident was on vacation in florida 2/14 at highway speed and it was to dangerous to not restart and go.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While parked, the contact noticed the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic advised that the fuel exhaust recirculation sensor had failed and would need to be replaced. In addition, the dealer stated that the steering rack assembly also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Power steering started to whine. I took it to a chrysler dealership. They said i needed a power steering kit and fluid change. They also said the water pump was leaking. Only thing is i took it to the same dealership at 22,000 miles with the same power steering problem, that was only 12,000 miles ago. Do i have to have the power steering redone every 12,000 miles????? and isn't 32,000 a bit early for water pump leak. I think chrysler should pay.
Second time the engine has just shut off while driving.first time 3 months ago, called the dealership where vehicle was leased from they never called back.happened again (10/25/2007)on the highway, van engine stopped coasted to service drive and then restarted.

While driving on the highway van shut off. This has happenedfive times very scary.we had took it to the honda and they told us they can not find anything wrong with it. We do not know what do next. We use the van for are 4 kids.thank you.
During the first incident, i lost all power to my engine, most of my gauges, and my power steering while driving 35 mph.i pulled my car over to the side of the road and it wouldn't restart immediately.the dealership had my car for aprox. 5 days and couldn't find anything wrong.about a month later, the car stalled the same as before, except this time it was right after i started the engine and began pulling up the driveway.aprox. 8 minutes later, it stalled again, with the same problems as in the first incident a month previously; however, this time i was driving 50 mph on wet country roads.i suddenly lost my heating/forced air, my engine, and most of my gauges.i didn't loose my power steering immediately.while i was still moving at 50 mph, i put the car from drive into neutral, restarted the engine, and put the car back into drive.a few seconds later, it stalled again, but i noticeably lost the power steering immediately that time.i was able to safely pull the car over, turn the ignition to off, then restart the car.i drove from there to the dealership without further problems.the dealership has had my vehicle for 10 days so far, and cannot locate or diagnose a problem.in every incident, there was no warning whatsoever. The car didn't make any unusual noises or behave erratically.one moment i had power, and the next i didn't.i simply lost the ability to accelerate my vehicle, lost my power steering, my engine stopped running, and the gauges all dropped to zero.no warning lights of any kind ever came on, and i didn't loose the electricity to my dash, radio, etc. Though i lost the blowing warm air/defroster function that had been turned on.

We purchased on 11/06/07 a used 2006 town and country from vin devers (419-885-5111) in toledo ohio. We also bought a service contract and the 8 year 80k mile warranty as this vehicle would be our family car. We have three young children. The first time we used the ac (05/19/08) we discovered it didn't work. It only blew warm air. We called vin devers and they said it was not covered so we tried another chrysler dealership in the area. They too explained it was not covered. Both dealership advised not to take it to the other dealership. After several phone conversations with both dealerships and being totally confused we finally gave up and paid for the repairs ourselves. I later called chrysler's service center in auburn hills and they explained the repairs should have been covered.i am now working with the service center to have the moneys refunded. This has been a total mess from the initial purchase of this vehicle and i would like some assistance. The repairs were for the rear evaporator coils and all new hoses and costed $670

My 2006 chrysler town and country van uses 1 quart of oll per 3000 miles and is under warranty. Chrysler says this engine can use up to 1 quart per 1000 miles and has refused to correct the problem.
Our van started leaking several months ago and then recently it started making a whirring sound that increased with the engine rpm and when the wheels were turned.it also had a smell of something burning. I took the van to the chrysler dealer we bought it from.they called to tell me that there were two separate leaks, the water pump and the power steering rack and both would need replacement.they also found the stabilizer links and bushings were worn out.chrysler agreed to pay for parts but not labor.the van has 37k miles and the warranty had run out over the summer.
After stopping in my garage, i used the remote to unlock and open the rear driver side power sliding door. The door began to open, and i reached in to pick up my bag. The door caught suddenly and started to close quickly. I reached up with my right arm to stop the door from closing on me, which it did. I then tried to back out of the car in case the door suddenly closed again. The door caught again, this time slamming into my right cheek and causing a concussion. 10 days later, and i am still recovering. I don't know what to do to correct the problem, but i don't want others to face the same possibility of injury.

The head lights will turn off unexpectedly. Flipping the on off switch helps to turn them back on, but it is getting harder and harder for them to stay on. I was driving in the early, dark morning hours down a very dark highway that is not illuminated with street lights.
We are having problems with our multifunction switch wiper high beams. We noticed this a couple of days ago when we turn the turning signal on to go right it was saying we where trying to turn left . This happened on a busy intersection and we almost got hit. Now its been doing it more and more.when my wife was driving the mini van she was turning left on a busy street. She turned the turnsignal on to turn left but itwas showing right she almost got hit by another vehicle. It scared my three children and my wife.
Just bought a used 2006 chrysler town and country minivan and have noticed a problem that has started up.the headlights don't want to come on when i turn the switch.it may take 3-5 times of turning them on, off, on before they stay on.this has happened both when starting the car in our parking lot, and when starting in a store parking lot.we've also noted that the lights turn themselves on and off by themselves sometimes with the car closed and untouched, often for some while before it happens.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that after turning the vehicle off, the daytime running lights remained illuminated. The contact mentioned that after removing the keys from the ignition, the vehicle started to make a loud beeping sound.after making several attemps, the lights finally turned off but moments later the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted.the vehicle was not inspected.the failure mileage was 200,000 and the current mileage was 204,000.
Left rear tail light caught fire when turning on turn signal. We used fire extinguisher to control the fire. Wynnewood fire department and police arrivedto the scene after it. Insurance company informed as well as chrysler. Fortunately it happened close to our home. Fire was near the gas tank. This is a town and country limited edition minivan, 2006, with only 18,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While the vehicle was stationary or while driving various speeds, water would enter into the brake light casings and cause the circuit system to short out. The contact stated that the brake lights were replaced twice, but the failure recurred. The dealer (jeff wyler springfield chevrolet in springfield, ohio) was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 131,166.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the headlights failed to activate and the high beams had to be used instead. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Headlights on 2006 chrysler town and country failed while driving.

Driving at nights whether on country, city, or major highways, whether driving straight or turning with the curve of the road, without warning the electrical system shuts off (headlights), leaving me in total darkness.i do have directionals.the system returns the headlights only after a series of quick on and off turning of the knob for the headlights .no low or high beams, simply no lights.
Headlights fail to come on, or turn off while driving.it may take several attempts to get the headlights on by turning the switch on and off several times. The lights have gone off several times while driving creating a great safety hazard. If you pull the high beam switch the high beams do come on and stay on as long as the switch is held back.
Signal light would flash right, when indicator was switched to flash left. Fortunately this only angered several motorists, and accidents were avoided. Checked for bad grounds in accessible places, all wiring appears intact. Replaced signal switch arm and module to successfully correct issue.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the head lights would randomly flicker while illuminated. There was a customer satisfaction campaign that could have been related to the failure however, the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.the contact stated while driving 25 mph the headlights would shut off and the headlight switch malfunctioned. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact stated the faulty headlight made it unsafe to drive at night and increased the risk of a crash.the failure mileage was 129,000.
Help....
The headlights on my vehicle would not come on.i had to turn the switch on and off to get them to come on.then they went off when i was pulling out of the parking lot.this happened the same way another time.i took it to the dealership and contacted chrysler.the dealer said they could not do anything because it did not happen for them. Chrysler said to work with the dealership.last night - 11/11.i turned on my lights - after a short delay they came on.while driving on the express way they went off and i wiggled the switch and they came on.this happened again.then, the third time the wiggling did not work.i was in complete darkness and going 55 mph.i bumped the switch and they came on.others have said to just pull the high beam lever towards you to get lights enough to pull over.i will do that next time.this is a very frightening and unsafe condition.
While driving at night, headlights would turn off while driving. The headlight switch went bad and my model was made after november 30, 2005 (see tsb 08-052-12 dated 8/25/12). Big safety concern. Neither chrysler nor the dealer would honor the lifetime guarantee of fixing the headlight switch.cost me $110 to fix.
When attempting to use right turn signal, the left is activated instead.original equipment.no modifications have been made.
Several tmes the head lights have went out while going down the road. Can not find any thing loose or corroded. Mostly happens during damp weather. The wipers have quit once also. Power steering pump is going out also.

Headlights have failed to turn on many times over the last 3 years. It took several attempts at switching them on, to make the lights work. Van was brought to the dealership, but the problem could never be replicated for them. Now the headlights not only fail to turn on most of the time, without several attempts, but have started turning off and on while driving.this has happened even while driving at night.the latest incident was tonight, when they first wouldn't turn on, then once on, repeatedly turned on and off, also dimming and growing brighter.
Headlights turn off intermittently and unexpectedly while driving and take several attempts at toggling off/on to re-illuminate. No other interior or exterior lights are affected. Problem is occurring more frequently.has happened numerous times forcing me to pull off the road until getting them to come back on.

When turning on left blinker, the right blinker comes on instead.sometimes the left blinker does not stay on and i have to turn it on again several times while waiting at a traffic light.when turning on the right blinker, the left blinker comes on instead.i have seen numerous complaints about this same problem on the internet.i have filed a report with chrysler.i have made arrangements to have this problem fixed by replacing the multifunction switch, however i do feel that this should be a recall item due to the fact that many consumers are experiencing the same issue.

I turned on the headlights and they would not come on. I had to toggle the switch back and forth to get it to work. Spoke with several dealerships and they stated that there is no recall on this problem. If i were to hold the lever back, then the high beams would be on. This is a dangerous issue especially after i have been reading up on this problems with other families with the same type of vehicle. I have 7 children and i do not want to get out on the road and all of a sudden we can't see. Please help..
Left turn signal turns on when right turn signal is selected and right turn signal turns on when left turn is selected.occasionally the turn signal will not turn on at all.also wiper blades will not turn onoccasion until another action is selected (such as a turn signal)when they do turn on after another action is taken they turn on at highest speed and will not go to the speed i select until another action is taken(such as turn signal).
My headlights are flicker or do not work sporadically. Changing the bulbs does not help. I was driving at night and they went off and i was unable to get the lights to come back on until the next day. I attempted to see if my brights worked, however they would not stay on, they would only flash. This happens when i am in motion or stationary. From what i have found in research it has to do with plastic breaking off and preventing a connection
When pulling out of a parking lot flames were seen in the side view mirror coming from the driver's side rear tail light. The plastic light encasing was kicked out and snow thrown on the flames. The blinkers, dash board light, and speedometer no longer work.
Passenger reading light started to blink and went out. I removed cover and the light socket assembly had melted.
On jan 16, 2017 was driving about 60 mph on a highway and it was dark and raining very hard.about 15 min. Into the drive, my headlights went off!!!nothing else in the car went dark, just the headlights!so dangerous on a busy highway!i flipped the headlight switch to off and then back on, and the lights came back on and stayed for another 10 min.on the return trip home, same night and conditions, about 15 min. Into drive, they went dark again!toggling the switch did help, and they came back on.went to my mechanic today who tested the wiring and switches and could not come up with anything.mentioned the "computer box" for lighting is possible, but were not definitive.what can i do?

While driving headlights shut off.after turning the light switch on and off the lights will come back on although it can take several tries. I found you can put high beams on by pulling back the lever and holding it.the dashboard lights are not affected so it increases the danger because sometimes you don't know the lights are out.
My headlights turn off when driving intermittently.turning the headlight switch on and off sometimes restores the lights, as does tapping the switch.none of these actions keep the lights on permanently.minutes later, the lights will go off again.this is a huge safety issue driving at night.this problem was addressed by nhtsa action number:ea11010 for town & country models built between march 1, 2004 (mdh 0301xx)and november 30, 2005 (mdh 1130xx) but my vehicle was built in april, 2006 and it is exhibiting the same exact symptoms.i believe that the chrysler headlight switch problem goes beyond the model build range addressed in ea11010 and there are many more vehicles affected by this than have been identified in the 2012 bulletin.i am going to have my car repaired at my own expense, and i will keep the defective part in case someone wants to investigate this problem, but i think that chrysler's responsibility goes beyond the limited vehicle range in the previous bulletin and it is a serious safety hazard that should be investigated.
The interior lights intermittently go on and off.the headlights fail to turn off even when switch is off, causing a dead battery if not noticed.headlights suddenly turn off even though switch is on.
My husband went out one evening to leave and turned the headlights on and they wouldn't come on he had to play with the switch.after that we have had nothing but problems.the headlights come on and off while driving down the road.there have been times i have had to pull over until they would come back on which has made me late for work.and now it's to the point that the running lights come on by themselves while the vehicle is parked and off.
Internal and external turn signals intermittently blink the opposite of what is expected.when turning on the left signal the signals occasionally blink right and visa versa.this malfunction may occur two or three times in a row and then it will work correctly for a day or week or more.it is unpredictable.this can be very dangerous as trailing or oncoming drivers respond to the incorrect signals.the local chrysler service people are not able to work on this problem if it isn't occurring when they work on the vehicle.

Headlights go on and off unexpectedly while driving.especially when there is moisture in the environment.very unsafe to be hauling my family in.
Turn on right blinker and the left one activates. At times the blinkers do work correctly yet it is getting more persistent this issue is occurring. This is a severe safety issue as people cannot tell you are making a turn due to blinker failure.

While driving on the interstate all of the gages in the cluster went to zero (mph, guel, engine temp) and i had no directional signals or emergency flashers....updated 09/28/15 updated 11/30/2017

I was driving and about to make a right hand turn. I turned on my right turn signal but my left turn signal came on instead. This resulted in the car behind me not reeling i was turning right and they rear ended me.i tested both turn signals and my left signal did not work at all and my right one would blink the left light.

I was driving down the road and the engine turned itself off.luckily i was able to coast to the side of the road and away from flowing traffic. I took my van into the mechanic and they discovered that there is a faulty roll-over valve in the fuel system, which was allowing gasoline to leak into the engine.i had filled my tank up with gasoline prior to this happening and the mechanic believes that the pressure of the gasoline on the valve allowed the gas to escape into the engine.i am so thankful this happened on a side street and not a busy highway.i had my kids with me when this happened so i am furious they were put in jeopardy over a faulty part.now i'm stuck with a huge bill to get the valve replaced to make my van safe to drive again.

The engine light came on and the speedometer read the words "gas cap". We changed out the gas cap and turn the engine light off.about a week later it was back on again.i need to get the car inspected but when the mechanic "smoked" the system.he discovered that the module/rollover on top of the tank where 2 small lines goes in is broken and the assembly is not separate but a part of the entire gas tank.he stated there is no reason for the breakage.i have contacted chrysler about this but have not received any response. There is no viable explanation for this except a faulty part.i am sure i cannot be the only one.there is a strong gas .
My family stopped and got gas on our way down to north carolina for christmas. As we left the gas station and pulled across traffic our 2006 chrysler town and country began to shutter and stalled.after that day, every time we fill up the same thing occurs.i have looked over many sites on the internet and see that there not only many others that have had this same dangerous issue, but it is not just on this model of chrysler. The only way to repair it is to have chrysler install a brand new gas tank. They quoted us almost $2000.00 to replace it when the real issue is a defective vapor/ liquid valve.our van has under 60 thousand miles on it.instead of installing a removable valve at the top of the gas tank, chrysler continued to design vehicles that require new gas tanks when the valve sticks.not only is this a tremendous safety issue, my family almost was hit by on coming traffic because of this issue. After spending over 2 hours searching the internet and seeing there were windshield wiper recalls and a glass recall, it became apparent that others will have to get injured or die before chrysler fixes this issue at there own expense.i am disappointed in this recall system we have.the internet allows us to now see the many dangerous design issues automakers have performed at our expense and our safety.i urge chrysler owners to search their vehicles concerning the vapor/liquid valves chrysler welds to their gas tanks. True or not, it is reported that some have been in accidents and died from collisions during this stalling after fill ups.
Gas pedal sticks the past few months.
2006 chrysler town and country. Consumer writes in regards to problems with fuel tank and vehicle stalling *tgwafter fueling, the fill tank hose clicked off. No further topping off the vehicle. The consumer stated he wouldtravel from once city block to sometimes ten, then the engine would stall.
The accelerator sticks, and excessive force is sometimes needed to accelerate.this occurred the other day and caused the vehicle to jump due to rapid acceleration.this defect could cause accidents due to drivers being unprepared for the sudden jump of the vehicle.
I stopped and got gas. I do not overfill my tank. I did not top off my tank. As i left the gas station and pulled across traffic my 2006 chrysler town and country began to shutter and stalled. After that day, every time i fill up the same thing occurs. I have researched and reviewed many sites on the internet and see that there are many others that have had this same dangerous issue. Apparently, the only way to repair the problem is to have chrysler install a brand new gas tank. It seems the real issue is a defective vapor/ liquid valve. This a tremendous safety issue, i was almost was hit by on coming traffic because of this issue. After spending many hours searching the internet, i have found no recall to date. Does someone have to get injured or die before chrysler fixes this issue? my kids, all 4 of them were in the vehicle when it happened to me the first time. Now i drive around the parking lot, let the vehicle stall and then drive.
After filling the gas tank with fuel, and closing the cap properly and not topping off, i drove away, made a left hand turn, and the car turned off.this has happened numerous times, mostly going between 25-35 miles/hour and one time happened while driving down an exit ramp to enter the interstate.
Check valve stuck closed, could not put in gas, had to install a new tank at the dealers $800.00plusit should be under extended warranty like the durango is, it is the same tank.
My 2006 chrysler town and country minivan stalls shortly after fueling.it has happened several times when i have pulled out of a gas station and start to accelerate on a main road.one time i pulled out and the van stalled in the middle of a high speed road.a tractor trailer had to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid rear ending me.i had my two children in the van with me.it happens after i refuel the van and start to accelerate.i've found other complaints online about the same issue.they say it is a faulty gas/liquid seperator valve located at the top of the fuel tank.when it goes bad, fuel gets sucked up into the charcoal canister for the emmisions and that is what causes the van to stall.chrysler is aware of the problem.it is a safety issue when your vehicle stalls out when you are trying to merge into high speed traffic.my understanding is that the entire gas tank needs to be replaced because that liquid/gas seperator valve is part of the gas tank.this should be a safety recall.when i call chrysler to file a complaint, the guy told me that the 3.4l chrysler vans were recalled for this exact reason but since i had a 3.8l engine i did not qualify.i don't understand why an engine size would make a difference if the problem is with a faulty valve in the gas tank and the gas tank is the same on both vehicles.can someone explain this to me please?chrysler has already set the prcedence on the recall and they need to broaden it to all vehicles with this same gas tank valve issue before someone gets killed.
Surely after filling up, my van will stall out nearly stall out. At times, the oil light will come on. After turning off and restarting the vehicle, the light goes off. It will also lurch forward unexpectedly, sometimes stalling and sometimes not. All of these problems only appear just after filling the tank.this is extremely dangerous if the vehicle stalls unexpectedly while driving down the road.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. After filling the fuel tank and starting the vehicle, the motor shut off without warning. In order to start the vehicle, the contact had to shift into neutral if the vehicle was still moving or in park if the vehicle was stopped. The failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the liquid/vapor separator valve failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no recalls regarding the failure. In order to repair the valve, the entire fuel tank needed to be replaced as well. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000. Updated 04/26/16*lj updated 11/20/2017
Problem: stalling and sputtering after refuelingengine type: 3.3 literstart of problem noticed: approximately 2011-2012service completed: chrysler/dodge dealer and third partyengine light associated with problem: egr valveservice provided: 2 new egr valves, a evap canister, gas cap, ignition coil and new fuel pumpwithin seconds after fueling my vehicle, the vehicle sputters and sometimes stalls. Initially there was no engine light associated with problem. Vehicle primarily stalls in intersections local streets) due to stalling occurring at start up creating significant safety hazard. After initial stalling (up to 4 times in one incident) and sputtering, vehicle returns to normal operation. Heavy acceleration helps with preventing stalling. The problem has progressed and now the engine light turns on and the vehicle sputters at various time (local streets and highways); even while traveling at highway speeds. I was never informed by "certified mechanics" of the issue or advised on how to fix the problem. I stumbled across information via google search regarding failure of the vapor/liquid separator in the gas tank dating back to at least 2012. I understand nhtsa has completed the investigation.concerns:1. Chrysler has failed to notify consumers of a known issue2. Chrysler/dodge dealers seem to be unaware of issue3. Unknown if stalling may occur at highway speeds causing loss of control4. Stalling has occurred in intersections5. It is unclear if there are any deaths or serious bodily injuries associated with this issue because it is unclear if this cause has been investigated in traffic homicides across the united states.further investigation should be completed. Chrysler/dodge or any other affected vehicle should have to at a minimum notify consumer of danger involved.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While traveling approximately 35 mph and immediately after refueling, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,000.
After a fill up and driving a short distance, the engine sputtered and stalled while sitting at a stop light. This happened 2 or 3 other times right after filling the tank completely full and then driving the vehicle a short distance to the first intersection. What i discovered is that i can no longer fill the tank until the gas pump automatically shuts off. This is a hazard and potentially life threatening defect. From what i can gather, the problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank.
Vehicle stalled after refueling. Placed vehicle in park and restarted it, but then continued to stall one or two more times. After making it home, vehicle drove fine for next 6 months or so. About 6 months later, refueled and stalled when leaving gas station. Placed vehicle in park and restarted. Stalled two more times then drove home without incident. Several hours later drove vehicle to dealer and was told "evaporative vapor cannister full of fuel making its way out of vent". Evaporative vapor cannister was replaced.
For over a year my van's engine stalls in the middle of traffic after refueling.most recently this same event occurred after refueling at a gas station in annapolis.when i turn on to the main road, my engine sputters, lurches and dies in the middle of ongoing traffic.my steering wheel also locks.after 30 seconds or so, i can restart it and my van operates normally.this is a very common pattern and a major safety issue.i had my vehicle checked at a chrysler dealership after this began happening and they claim that they need to be able to reproduce the issue in the shop and claim they cannot detect an issue.based on their training, they said my vehicle is fine.no dealership mechanic wants to spend time going to a gas station to refuel the vehicle in order to gain a personal experience of the issue.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled after refueling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that fuel was not getting to the engine, which caused the engine to stall. The contact was informed that the fuel pump would possibly need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. The vin was not available.
The van is stalling immediately after refueling.it initially starts, and then when i pull out and stop at the intersection it dies.it is necessary to keep the gas pedal mashed as i am trying to restart it or it just keeps dying as soon as the engine turns over.once it restarts, i have to keep the gas pedal pushed down while it idles roughly for a minute or so andthen it evens out andhas no further problems until i refuel again.i have read this is a common problem on 2204-2007 chrysler vans that requires replacing the whole gas tank to replace the vapor/fluid separator valve causing the problem.
After filling the gas tank on my van, it stalls a couple minutes later after pulling out onto the highway, this has happened the last 2 times it was filled. I takes a few tries to get it to restart. Both times i have almost been rear ended. This is a very dangerous problem.i read where this has been a problem on other year chrysler vans and now its happening to mine.
2006 chrysler town & country. Vehicle engine shuts off after refueling to full tank. This happens 98% of the time after fueling. Vehicle stops approximately 2 to 5 minutes after fueling that allows vehicle enough time to be in travel lane with on coming traffic. My wife was almost re-ended 2 times. This is a known defective problem with these vehicles and other chrysler vehicles (300 model etc.) that were repaired by chrysler. My van is not covered according to dealer.
Engine stall after refuelling
For 3 months now, everytime the vehicle is fueled, the engine begins to stall and sputter. This happened on 2/20/2014 at 5pm after leaving the fueling station and the car stalled in the middle of a turn through a heavy traffic intersection, i lost power steering at a critical point in the turn and crossed one lane and almost into a concrete wall before muscling the steering wheel into a safe spot to try to restart the vehicle. I have been seeing a lot of reports about a failure with the vapor liquid separator valve on the gas tank that allow liquid to fill the charcoal canister which inturn sends raw liquid fuel rather than vapor into the engine intake causing an extremely rich mixture causing the stalling and sputtering. This is happening after every refuel and i am seeing hundreds of chrysler owners complaining of the same problem. Chrysler denied ever hearing about this problem when i called their customer service number to inquire. Apparently the fix is to replace the fuel tank. Sounds like a very unsafe design flaw to me.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While driving 5 mph after filling the fuel tank, the vehicle stalled and lurched without warning. The failure subsided after three minutes, but occurred whenever the vehicle was refueled. The vehicle was diagnosed that the vapor liquid separator valve failed. Every time my 2006 chrysler town and country is filled with fuel when driving off within minutes the engine dies and start up takes several tries.this is a safety problem pulling out in traffic risking the vehicle becoming disabled and subject to the on coming traffic.when the engine dies power steering also becomes disabled.lets hope no one fills up near a railroad track.chrysler is aware of this problem recalling several of their makes for the same problem knowing they have the same gas tank on more than afew of their models.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted and resume normal function. The contact mentioned that every time the fuel was replenished, the engine would stall immediately after. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The mechanic was unable to locate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Fuel pump has a leak at the top on the plastic line
It has happened numerous times that shortly after filling the gas tank, my van stalls. This has happened several times while in or at an intersection. It never stalls after that, until the next fill up.
Van stalls when filling the fuel tank.i know other owners with the same problem.very big hazardous problem!
Re:niosh investigation pe 13-016 engine stall.subject of the cited investigation, stalling while driving after fueling may be characteristic of 2006 chrysler corp. Minivans (3.8 l engine) as well, based on messages in a chrysler minivan e-mail list.comments indicate that this is a known problem which requires replacement of the fuel tank.my van did this four or five times in the year after my first instance.it was then sold (for unrelated reasons.)once, i talked with the gas station attendant for a few minutes before leaving the station, and had trouble starting the engine.it came to be my belief that the problem could be avoided or minimized by starting the engine and driving away from the gas station as soon as possible after replacing the fuel cap, believing that vapors from evaporating fuel would overload the vapor recovery system if the car were allowed to sit.
Truck stalls after refueling without warning ! this is a safety issue occurred in traffic with loss of power brakes and steering with a young driver at the wheel . While exiting a state highway with a near collision from the rear!this should be recalled by chrysler ! before someone is killed .

The interior lights intermittently go on and off.the headlights fail to turn off even when switch is off, causing a dead battery if not noticed.headlights suddenly turn off even though switch is on.
Driving 2006 chrysler town and country and dash gauges and lights go off and then back on.this happened twice in 5 minutes.
The front right side dome light was out.when i went to replace the light bulb, i discovered the light socket had burned, charred and partially melted.they replaced the entire unit, that included both dome lights, under warranty of a chrysler dealer.approximately 3 months later the same thing happened again.now the left side dome light is also burned, charred and partially melted.i fear this condition could start a vehicle fire!
I own a 2006 chrysler town and country.i've had a lot of problems with it since i got it, but the problem today seems dangerous.my overhead reading light (part # pc579) burned out.when i went to replace it, i found that the plastic housing for the bulb had melted where the contact is and was burnt all around the bulb.i then checked the passengers side, and it was burnt and starting to melt too.also, when the dealer tried to replace the bulb for me, the part didn't fit, and they said it had been 'updated' and that the old type wasn't available anymore.the mechanic then filed down the plastic to get it to fit in the socket.they also told me that the burning and melting of the bulb wasn't out of the ordinary; they said it happens all the time.looking at it, it appears to be as design flaw that could potentially cause a fire.the bulb faces upward into a chrome dome that then reflects the light back to illuminate the car for viewing maps, reading, etc.it seems to be a pretty dangerous design that could cause problems again and makes me nervous.
Passenger door locks just stopped working then door all together stopped working and know will not close even manually.
The passenger side sliding door lock does not respond to the remote or inside control for locking and unlocking. It only works when controlled manually.
Right rear power door fails to open from rear push button, later in time, door lock failed to open when unlocking doors, also door won't lock on auto., or when driving as the rest of the doors. Very dangerous, my grandchildren ride quite regularly and afraid door may malfunction. Also when turn left at times theirs a grinding noise coming from the front of the car.

Parking brake assembly builds up with brake dust causing rear wheels to make a "honing" sound.i have been to the shop 3 times in 2 months with the same problem.my chrysler town and country (2006) only has 17000 miles on it and they told me i would just have to have it "cleaned and lubed" at least once a year. I have never had to do that with any other vehicle i have ever owned.please help me to fix this annoyance.
The transmission went bad with less than 87,000 miles after all warranties expired.this vehicle was lightly driven and well cared for. While driving the van, we noticed a strange sound coming from beneath the vehicle. It was professionally diagnosed as a faulty planetary gear issue i.e. The transmission was bad.

I purchased a 2006 chrysler t/c mini van since i have bought it i have had numerous problems with the brakes they even locked up on the highway once i took it to the dealer and there response was unable to reproduce problem had front brakes replaced, caliper, disc ect .had a cross bar that holds the wheel break off was told by dealer it was a design flaw since i've had this car i keep telling the dealer that i believe it to have problems with the front end including the brakes in jan 2010 i took my car to midas to have the brakes done there i was told that it was the 3 car to be brought in for the same reason when they inspected the car they noticed that the front end or the rack and pinion is leaking and has been for some time .in total since 11/2006 that i took delivery of the car i have paid close to if not over $3000.00 due to front end problems please check into this because as i said before the cars brakes locked up on the highway once before the sad thing is the warranty is gone and i believe this car to have been a lemon . But know that there have been so many problems with different cars maybe someone will listen and have this brand also checked.

Car parked on level surface with engine running & in park.looked out of the 2nd floor window approximately 2 to 3 minutes later and the car was moving, entered the garage (door opened) and ran into the wall, making a hole in the wall and minor scratching of the front fender.the car was still running and the gear was in drive.filed a police report since i was showing this home for sale and couldn't figure out why it started moving after 2 to 3 minutes of idling.below date is an approximate one.unsure of exact date at this time but would probably show up on the police report.estimate about $200 for wall repair.

I own a 2006 town & county chrsyler van, it is fine until my husband drives it.then it sounds like in the universal joint/drive train/sounds like it clunks and falls into place when taking off or stopping.i took it for my normal oil change and ask them why it did that.the shop manager said that my van's has a memory of my driving and when someone else drives it, it needed to be put on a machine to clear, that was all.it drives without that sound now.i'm not a hard stopper or fast starter.does my husbands driving cause it to do that, he stops harder and takes off faster than i do?
The seatbelts of my 2006 chrysler town and country do not lock. The dealer told me when i purchased that they would if i was in an accident in came to a quick stop. Today me and my three children were in an accident and they did not lock. My oldest is no longer in a car seat or booster and was wearing her seat belt which did not keep her in place the same with my middle girl who is in a high back booster seat wearing a regular seat belt luckily my youngest was in a regular car seat with a harness. We were very lucky that nobody got seriously hurt but it really does scare me that theses seat belts are not doing there job!
Seatbelts do not lock. You can pull on them and pull on them and they keep retracting.
The bolt attaching the right hand 2nd row passenger seat belt to the floor came lose and detached the seat belt from its anchor point to the floor.the fact that the bolt fell out means that the seat belt can not function to prevent personal injury or death in the event a crash were to occur.
Second row seat belt latch is not latching. The release button sticks in the release position. Which causes the seat belt not to hold. It will not click.

We purchased a 2006 chrysler town and country mini-van.the van is equipped with stow and go seating.on the third row seats, located on the end of each seat, left and right,is a pull tab.when my 6 year old son pulled the tab the seat ejects forward.the force created a lump on his head.the tab is easy to access and easy for a child to pull.when the tab is pulled the upper part of seat moves forward fast and with force.i believe this is a safety concern for children and even adult.especially, if you aren't expecting the movement of the seat.
-the contact was trying to fold the seats in a 2006 chrysler town and country, when he pulled the strap on the seat it folded on his hand. The contact states that the seat was all the way back and in the upright position when the failure occurred.updated 01/31/07.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle started to jerk violently. The contact mentioned that after inspecting the vehicle he noticed that the front passenger side brake caliper seized and caused sing smoke to emit from the tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician verified the failure and stated that the caliper, rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was mileage was 129,628 and the current mileage was 129,698.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While driving at an unknown speed, the abs, and the air bag warning lights illuminated and all of the controls near the steering wheel failed to work. The contact diagnosed that the speed control switch and the cruise control failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 146,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
I have encountered a very serious problem with the steering wheel of my 2006 chrysler town and country. After doing some research, i have found that many others have experienced the same issues. As far as i can tell, no one has been able to solve this problem. This is a link to one of the forums that i encountered while doing research. Http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/dodge-grand-caravan/tc37vjlp6md4pohvj/p2 here is a comment left by one of the many people experiencing difficulties,"this is my second chrysler/dodge mini-van that developed this problem. My first was a 1996 dodge caravan and no one was ever able to fix the problem. Now my 2002 chrysler town & country has the same problem. We have replaced everything....including the belt tensioner which was horribly expensive but the problem just comes back. I will have the mechanic check the drain hole. It's almost criminal that this company could not figure out and warn about this problem which is very dangerous." ([xxx])it is a very dangerous and possibly deadly problem. When attempting to make a turn, if the conditions are wet, the steering wheel will jam up and will not turn, that it to say it locks up or jams. The wheel freezes without warning and requires substantial force in order to turn. Any turn made without extreme caution could prove to be lethal under these circumstances. The last time this occurred it had been raining on thursday september 10, 2015. Although by the time i got out of work, it was no longer raining, as i backed out of the parking lot, the steering wheel froze yet again. Luckily, it occurred in a parking lot and not on a busy road where a collision might have occurred. This problem is obviously very concerning to me and i would like to hear back from someone as soon as possible and hopefully no one will get hurt until that time. Thank you for your time.- [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Loss of braking in snow (approx 4 inches), pedal goes to the floor while driving in heavysnow. Pedal can be pumped up. Dealer (suburban chrysler) changed master cylinder but it did not resolve issue. Subsequent snows continue to cause issue for braking system.
Ignition switch shuts off while driving and engine stops running. Possible from bumps in road or bumping key ring with drivers knee.has happened more than three times.
I was driving to work when i started noticing that my front brakes were grinding and squeaking very loudly. I took the vehicle to my usual mechanic to have it looked at and found that my pads were gone, metal to metal with the rotors. There was only 18, 000 miles on the car at the time and failure of the brakes was premature. My mechanic was shocked that a virtually new car had such severe brake erosion. I never had an indicator to let me know that the brakes were going bad. Front and rear brakes were replaced and the front rotors were replaced.a total of $600.about a year later at 38,000 miles the same thing happened all over again within six months of having the brakes checked by my mechanic and he said the brakes looked like new.
Hoping brake pedal warped rotor, every ten thousand miles rotors need to be replaced or resurfaced. Resurfaced at 20,000, replaced at 30,000, resurface 41,000. I have owned 5 chrysler vans and only needed brake service after 30,000 miles this van is two years old and has three brake jobs.
No abs installed on my van.chrysler says was optional.didn't know to ask. Have been in one collision where i believe had i not hit another vehicle i would have ended up in a worse collision with a railroad track.another incident occured at a stop sign.thank god nothing was coming in the other directions.
We purchased our van new with 20 miles on it. I noticed shaking a little when braking. We took it back to the chrysler dealer for them to tell us we needed new brakes and rotors. They did replace them at no cost because it was so new, but the only explanation was that sometimes this happens when shipping. They get warped we were told.a year later we had the same problem. I was told that these vans are known for this. I had to replace the brake pads, rotors resurfaced and the rear brakes cleaned and adjusted. It cost us $260.00. No explanation why at 22140 miles! we are now at 33421 miles and once again having the same problem not even a year later. This time the pads were gone it was metal on metal and we were told the brake line had collapsed and would have to be replaced. This is now going to cost $360.00. I'm afraid to ask what's next. This is a death trap. The only warning i had was a little bit of shaking when braking at high speeds. No other warning! i think i'll stick to the foreign cars we've bought in the past. That's why chrysler is bankrupt. This is the second american car we've had with nothing, but problems. The other one we lemon law!
The only events leading up to the failure is cold and wet weather.the failure is that after my van has set for maybe a day or two, and i get into it to drive, the rear wheels are locked up/frozen solid.this has occurred twice: in jan of 07 with 20,000 miles and dec. 09 with 63,000.the first time the wheels froze up the brakes were replaced.i was told there was a gap allowing water to get into the brakes and freezing them up.luckily the warranty paid for this repair but the gap was not covered. This time the dealership wants us to cover all costs.they said that moisture got into the brake system through the same gap and rusted the brakes out again to cause it to freeze up this time. This is the exact same problem as before, the service department has informed me of this. But they refuse to help because it is now out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.while driving 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly swerved to the left and the contact could not control the vehicle.he applied the brakes, but the vehicle continued to swerve.the vehicle did not respond to the braking system.he slid off the paved road and into a dirt road, causing the vehicle to slow down and gradually stop.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the front control arm on the driver side wheel was detached.the vehicle is currently at the dealer, but has not been repaired.the current and failure mileages were 24,000.
Replaced my 2006 t&c front brakes with machine rotors at 29,400 miles(15 months). Now one year later at 44,000 miles i have a honing noise in left rear wheel. Took to dealer and service tech says front rotors warped need replacing and need new pads too. Also need rear brakes too! this appears to be a common defect in t&c minivans. My history of other cars i own shows normal 2-2/ 1/2 years before requiring new brakes.
2006 chrysler town and country 60,000 milesbrake failure, air in the brake fluid, causing brakes to become inoperable.front caliper rebuilt, brakes bled, good for a couple weeks then it happened again.
Dt*:the contact stated the had excessive brake dust on all four wheel rims.there were no previous brake failures.the vehicle was inspected by the dealer who determined the brake dust on the rims was brake material that simply flaked off with normal wear.the manufacturer was alerted.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.while driving 5 mph the front brakes started to grind whenever the brakes were applied.the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer four times in the past two years to have the front brakes replaced.the dealer informed the contact that the braking system was too small for the vehicle which caused the front brakes to wear faster.the dealer also replaced the clock spring in the air bag since the air bag light stayed on continuously. The contact is concerned about the risk safety risk.the failure mileage was 36,100.jo
Funny that there's someone out there with same brake problem as us. Car started pulsating so we changed rotors and brakes.rotors were warped changed brakes too even though there was a ton of brake pads left.about one month later driving down turnpike car started vibrating severely at first we thought it was the road, when we smelled burning we pulled over.could find nothing wrong, we drove very slowly and as we went down exit brakes went to floor.pumped brakes came back slowly, parked car for event we went to.after event checked master cylinder and it was fine had vehicle checked and it's fine now.no explanation, but there were 7 of us in car that included 4 of my grandkids, this could've been a disaster and no one would have known why because it corrected itself.very scary!kids were very nervous had to put them and our daughter in another car.almost missed great nieces baptism.if a member of my family were in an accident and died i might be suspicious that this could've happened to them.
I bought my chrysler tc new and within 2 years and only 20, 248 miles my brakes are gone.chrysler said it was my heavy foot.now 2 years later brakes are out again and i only have 45,300 miles on this car and it isn't my foot.chrysler has a brake problem.going down the highway i press the brakes and there is this growling noise.
Chrysler town and country touring van has 99,000 miles andordered new grilled and slotted rotors along with ceramic brake pad for front brakes. This is the 5th time in five years i had to replace warped rotors and pads. Told by autozone rep that all chrysler vans and jeep have inferior brake design causing unusual and excessive wear.
06 town and country same problem with brakes!back brakes seize up take to dealer, they tried to get drum off for almost 3 hours put wheel back on sent us on way. Brakes pulse when applied...didn't do that before....replaced brake drums, and the broken brake cylinder... Still throbs replaced all again....guess what still throbs...they didn't throb before i took it to dealer....see other people have same issue what has happened to customer service instead of excuses?
I bought a 2006 town and country lx in may 17, 2006.shortly after a year i had to replace my brakes, not only my pads were gone but the rotor was damaged and i never even got a warning, than april 2008 i had to replace my power steering bracket.in may 2009 again my brakes and rotors were gone. June 1st 2009 my van died. I had to buy a new battery. July 29 my driver side mirror fell down. And now august 7 my front a/c wont work but the back does.
At 6,800 miles my new 2006 town and country van had to have the rotors and brakes replaced.the brakes overheated coming down a gradual sloping mountain. The brakes overheated again after the brakes were replaced at apx 7,800 miles, dealer said back brakes was not adjusted properly . I drive this mountain alot this is the first car to do this. I am reluctant to drive the van back in this area so i take my other car. I like the van but brakes should not give problems at this mileage. Concerned about safety of my family.
Heavy wear on brakes.at approx 13,000 miles we had to replace the brakes due to wear.the dealer said it was the norm these days due to newer brake materials and our chrysler t&c being a heavy vehicle.i don't think brakes should wear out at 13000 miles.please monitor this issue.
I was driving my elderly parents around seattle when i started noticing that my front brakes were grinding, took the vehicle to les schuab to have it looked at and found that my pads were gone, metal to metal with the rotors. There were only 22,000 miles on the car at the time and failure of the brakes was premature. It was also noted by the mechanic that the pads installed by the factory did not have wear indicators to let the driver know when the brakes were going bad. Front brakes were replaced and the rear brakes were cleaned, rotors were salvageable.
I bought my 2006 town and country 9/05 it has 15,000 miles on it we had to change the brakes, when my husband took them off, the drivers side was metal to metal when the passenger side still had 1/2 a pad left. I love my van but the company where i bought it from is another story.
2006 t&c rotors/pads needed replacement at 21,000 miles....dealer claims van is heavy and i was lucky to get that much mileage! shouldn't chrysler put a proper brake in their "heavy" van or at least design the replacement brake to end this problem?$30,000 van-and i see that this is a common problem.very disappointed in the lack of quality control.

I needed brake pads at 10,000 miles and the front rotors warped at 25,000 miles. I've owned at least three vans before and didn't need any brake work till at least 40,000 miles. Is the town and country the next chrysler line since the recall on the chrysler jeep and truck recall?
Left rear brake drum locked up in garage and vehicle had to be towed. Show owner said it appeared to have been in water or sat for a long time.. The vehicle is garage kept, was never in water and never sat long as i drive 57 miles five days a week. I was charged $66.00 to clean the drum. The vehicle had 16,000 miles on it at the time.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that when driving at any speed during inclement weather, the power steering system would malfunction, causing the contact to loose control of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who stated that the power steering malfunction was an issue that can not be remedied. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer. The failure mileage was 100,000.
I was driving on the highway and my power steering went out. It was in the middle of winter with a storm coming in. I had to replace my power steering racking system, which coast me over $500. It is a issue that seems to be happening to many of these vehicles from this year. I also have issues with my power steering going out every time is rains or snows. This was happening well before i had to get the racking system repaired and is still an issue. This is a major safety issue that needs to be fixed.
Purchased 2006 tc chrysler in november 2006. At approximately 43k miles, december 2007, the powering steering began whining. Vehicle was determined by chrysler to need a new rack for the steering, new hoses, new steering resavor etc.. Costing over $1,500. I was advised that my warranty was expired.
Loud whinning for the last few months increased to very loud.had to replace the rack & pinion steering and reservoir...the whole package.
We bought a brand new 2006 t & c and have maintained it like new inside and out - not abused. Still looks brand new. At 34,000 miles we need to replace rack and pinion! cost is around $1,000 that we don't have! chrysler need to be honest and do something about this problem. If there is any help, suggestions, we'd appreciate it.
At 50,000 plus miles the van began making a horrible whining noise.the steering rack and pinion had to be replaced - a total of $1,600.00.this is ridiculous for a vehicle with only 50,000 miles.after viewing on line complaints, i see that my vehicle is not the only one.chrysler needs to step up and recall these vehicles and reimburse the people that have been out thousands of dollars due to their mistake.
Failed power steering rack at 45k miles.whining noise worse at start up and cold temperatures. Upon researching the internet, i found one website discussion board (http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f172b27/0) where there are over 21 separate instances of the same problem.many of these occurring below 50k miles.i purchased the car used in july of 07.it always had a slight whine but has gotten progressively worse over time.it is my understanding chrysler is aware of the problem but chooses not to do anything to resolve it.
I am hearing a loud whine. It sounds as though it is coming from the front of the vehicle and can be heard more loudly inside the vehicle than out. It is constant. It is usually louder in cold weather. It is not as loud immediately following when i have my vehicle service and all fluids are topped off. Lately it has began to make a bit more of a grinding noise. The noise is very noticeable at low speeds--not so much at higher speeds, but then again there is more road noise at high speeds. If parked and i turn the steering wheel, the whine gets louder. The pitch seems to change with engine speed, not movement. I took it to an auto shop and they said it is the power steering pump, rack & pinion. I have researched this on the internet, and there are hundreds of identical complaints. This is clearly a defect in the vehicle. Why hasn't this been recalled yet? if left unfixed, the power steering can fail. I would have a hard time trying to steer this vehicle without power steering and it would likely result in a crash. This is clearly a safety issue.
When i drive my 2006 chrysler town and country through a puddle or in a heavy downpour, my power steering goes out. The belt slips and squeals for quite a while before the power steering starts working again. I haven't been able to find a dealer or mechanic that knows how to fix the problem. My wife and i have both driven off the road due to this issue.
Ignition switch shuts off while driving and engine stops running. Possible from bumps in road or bumping key ring with drivers knee.has happened more than three times.
While driving in the rain, lost power steering capability and couldbarely turn wheel to get out of harms way....this has happenedseveral times...thought just a fluke...but consistency tells otherwise...don't thinki would buy a chrysler product again...
Squealing power steering during winter monthswhen van was inspected i was told i needed rack and pinion replacedleaking power steering fluid.
The power steering pump being low on fluid duo to a leak from the rack and pinion. That cause the power steeering whining is extremely loud.
Power steering rack seals failed, fluid leaking from power steering system.failure was proceeded by long-term low-pitched whining noise coming from power steering system. Fluid drained from system while driving making it very difficult to steer vehicle.dealer recommends replacing power steering rack, out of warranty, cost $900.00.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the rear driver's side sliding door would not unlock and the rear passenger's side sliding door would not lock. Additionally, the contact stated that the rack and pinion was fractured. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Power steering leak and failure.began with whinning noise at around 40,000.upon inspection, power steering assembly failed and required replacement.within two weeks of service, new steering assembly began whinning and leaking again.the steering assembly had to be replaced a second time.concerned about power steering failure at such low mileage and possible safety risk for the future.appears to be a common problem at low mileage for this model and have requested a recall from chrysler.
Noise in front endwhining noisetook to carrols autowas told this is the 12th one this year already.rack and pinion mechanism leaking fluid at boots.replace rack and pinion assembly.there are others on website with same issues.cost is roughly $1000 to replace with labor.this could cause failure of pump assebly also
I havea 2006 town and country 35,635 miles - bought it new but the warranty ran out in april.i have had a terrible whining problem that was just diagnosed as my rack and pinion was leaking. $375 for the part, $357 for labor, $16.00 fluid and $59.95 for the alignment after.i asked the dealer about complaining to chrysler and she said to try it.well chrysler is going to pay the part and warranty it for 1 year or 12,000 miles.so i"m still not happy about the $432.95 left for me, which i think chrysler should pay also because of the numerous reports.i think there should have been a recall and the whole shot paid for.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph through a large puddle of water when the power steering warning indicator illuminated with a complete loss in steering power. After driving for a few moments, the power steering began to function normally without the illumination of the warning indicator. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. Updated 11/16/11*lj
Rack & pinion whining, power steering harder to steer.at about 50k mi started to hear a whining sound coming from the engine area, took it in to chrysler and they advised it was coming from the rack and pinion, but it does not affect drive of vehicle and refused to cover it under warranty, so we did not do anything with it; over time my steering got harder and harder, and whining got louder; took it back in 30k mi later after warranty expired, and they advised that the power steering is going out due to an issue with the rack and pinion and that the rack and pinion needs to be replaced along with power steering pump. At carcomplaints.com there are a lot of other individuals with same issue at approx the same miles when problem started occurring. This to me does seem to be a factory defect and dealer is refusing to help out with any of the repairs. And the fact that it affects steering raises a huge safety concern in my mind.
When the weather is below 80 degrees the steering wheel makes awining noise. Is there a recall on this issue? when the weather is cold the sound is coming from the inside. I had the steering wheel fluid checked and it was ok. This only happens in colder weather. It is getting worse.
2006 t&c van bought new 21,400 miles. Winning sound due to defective steering pump. Dealer says pump is full of fluid and no leaks; wants $600 to replace pump. Passenger side window doesn't go up and down.no events leading up to either failure. Constant problem. I have yet to come up with the $1000 that dealer wants to fix problem. "old" part still in car waiting your reply. Thanks!
Power steering fluid leaking from crack in rack and pinion housing on our 2006 chrysler t&c at 60,000 miles.fix is $800 to replace entire rack and pinion system.
First noticed that the power steering system whines during a highway trip michigan to tennesee in 2010. Thought the fluid was low so topped it off. Fast forward one year later and 12,000 miles and the whine occurs more often and louder. By the spring of 2011 had the system flushed ($40). Whining continued. Found on internet blogs that filter/reservoir could be plugged with debri. Tech confirmed this at the second flush($20). This service seemed to work for about a month before whine came back. Third flush ($69) worked for a 1000 mile trip and some, but whine is back at high speed and high temperature days (above 80f).now, i'm noticing power steering fluid drops on the garage floor. Just under 60000 miles on the vehicle. I fear based on all the other complaints, i will have $1000 rack and pinion repair to look forward to.
Took my vehicle to get a new set of tires. Upon the free fluid checks being done, the power steering fluid was noticed to be low. When the mechanic started looking into the issue, he noticed that the rack and pinion is leaking. This is certainly what is causing the loud whining noise. This was a month after the bolts for the alternator broke off leaving my wife and kids stranded. Fortunately i was able to get the broken studs out with vise grips.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized without warning while driving in rainy weather.the steering wheel became hard to turn and caused the contact to crash into a mail box.the failure was experienced several times when the vehicle was driven in rain. The driver did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the failure and current mileage was 80,000.
I have a 2006 chrysler town & country with 42,000 miles.after the last oil change i noticed a loud whining noise after starting it & continued to sound like a jet taking off until it warmed up.my husband had a friend look at it & noticed there was very little power steering fluid, so he filled it up & the sound disappeared.today i took it to the chrysler dealer again for another oil change & they said they noticed a leak coming from the rack & it needed to be replaced for $800+!how can this be since it only has 42,000 miles??!!unfortunately the warranty expired at 36,000. They said i had to replace it or the power steering could go out at any time.luckily nothing horrible happened while driving on the highway recently with my daughter!!there should definitely be a recall on this!!i have been hearing from others & reading tons of posts online about this very problem with newer t & c.please look into this major problem!!!!
I had an accident where the vehicle suddenly steered to the left.i did a 360 plus 90.i was going around a bend to the left at the time. There was a light rain at the time but i was not exceeding the speed limit and i have driven this road many times in the past. The front passenger tire was completely torn form the car. After it was towed and i had a chance to see the damage, i noticed a dark black mark about 5/8 of an inch by 1/4 inch on the broken ball joint. I think the ball joint had a defect in it and that a the accident was caused by the ball joint breaking where it flattens out to connect to the steering rod or connecting rod. At the present time the vehicle is at thomas chevy dealership in bedford, pa i am going to have the adjuster take pictures to have some evidence of this and will ask to keep the parts or give them to me. A couple of days after the accident i went back to the location to see if there was any thing more i could remember about the accident and how it happened. I saw a slight gouge in the road like something had been pushed or pulled on the blacktop surface of the road. I will try to see if the end of the tie rod or whatever it is called has a wear spot on it when i go to look at the car today. I have no camera to be able to have any photo evidence of this. I would like to know if there have been other accidents involving a ball joint part breaking.
I own a 2006 chrysler town and country. I noticed a whining noise coming from the front of the car. I took it in to chrysler dealer yesterday and was told that it was thepower steering reservoir. This van only has 49,000 miles on it. And today i came to know that this repair was not even covered on the extended warranty. That makes no sense to me. Please look into this and make chrysler do something about it.
Power steering gearassy. Has developed leaks 3 times since new, requiring replacement.noticed before failure occurred.
Week of 5/27/13 power steering groaning.i'm getting ready for the rack to go again.fluid not low yet.first time rack leaked all fluid out was in 08, van still under warranty so it was replaced.a couple of years later it leaked all fluid out and rack replaced at my expense (around $800 here).now i'm prepping for a 3rd go around.this is crazy i have other autos that are 20 years old that i finally replaced the ps pump on one of them (and not a 800 dollar rack).
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that while having routine service performed at the dealer, the dealer noticed a leak in the rack and pinion. The contact had not notice any defects in the steering. The dealer stated that the entire rack and pinion system needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 45,000.
While driving during a rain storm i went through a puddle. I lost power steering for about 30 seconds. This has happened twice!!! it is scary and i will never buy another chrysler.
Rack and pinion failure as end seals on left and right hand sides failed.the power steering fluid leaked into the ribbed boots and later onto the ground resulting in hampered steering ability.
Kept smelling a burning rubber smell, took car in for several things because of the extended warranty we have (we bought it when we bought our car new - always get an extended warranty with chrysler products!!)they are now fixing the steering rack & pinion - and the electronic driver-side passenger door, the gps/radio system, the throttle which they claim is a maintenance issue (but there are bulletins out about that too) and our auto locks and airbag warning signal (which wa replaced before).
While driving during a rain storm we went through a puddle. We lost power steering for about a minute. If this had happened on an interstate or mountain road it could have been very dangerous.
While my wife and daughter were pulling into the wataburger (fast food joint) off marbauch road at about ten miles per hour, the rack and pinion system of the steering mechanism basically exploded.they had almost no control over the direction the vehicle was going. It has failed but the once, and nearly caused my wife to hit parked automobiles.vehicle was towed to ipac on loop 410 where the entire r&p unit was replaced with, i hope, new parts.
My 2006 town and country had to have power steering worked on in the first year of owningit , but was covered under warranty...just soo everyone's aware if the dealers mechanics see a problem under the hood, but you don't complain about it they aren't allowed to mention it .so that means if you had your car into dealer and they saw there was something wrong with your powersteering, but you don't complain they will not go out of their way to tell you about the problem.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he could hear a loud whining noise coming from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the rack and pinion was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vin was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 80,000.

The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. While making a turn at an unknown speed, the steering wheel locked up without warning. While attempting to regain control, a loud bang noise was heard. The contact was able to regain control of the steering wheel, but a clicking sound was heard constantly. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring and multi-function switch were damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,416.updated 02/12/16*lj
On monday, december 15, 2014 i was driving the vehicle and was making a left turn as i was transporting children for my business.in the midst of making a turn, the steering wheel made a loud popping sound and locked in the middle of the turn.i took it to the shop for repair and was told the problem was in the airbag.i later found out that their was a recall on the airbag for all 2005-06 chrysler town and country vans.i contacted chrysler and was told that even though my vehicle meets all the requirements for the recall, they still will not service my vehicle for recall.this vehicle is unsafe to drive and transport children and it is due to the airbag and other recalls listed for this vehicle.i would like to know from chrysler what part of all excludes my vehicle???the website clearly states that my vehicle meets the requirements to be repaired by the recall so i am confused as to why they won't honor this recall??
1.i did nothing unusual or potentially destructive.2.the right front ball joint has worn "loose"-will not satisfy me inspection in the vehicle's third year.if it lets go, it could cause an accident, which on the road or turnpike could cause injury and/or death to one or more vehicle occupants.3.i am going to take vehicle back to dealer for replacement--it is only 27 months old and still under warranty.
While driving on the interstate i noticed a whine developing.at first i thought it to be a bearing in one of the pulleys.i took it to my mechanic and he said it was a power steering pump or the rack and pinion.i had the power steering flushed and refilled but it continues to have the whine.the mechanic told me it could be the rack and pinion.after reading the blogs online i have found that many are having the same problems.i have a 2006 chrysler town and country touring with 88000 miles.
Loud whining noise coming from steering, once driven for 10 miles or so!having steering column replaced does not solve problem.
Excessive noise coming from engine bay in our 06 chrysler t&c dealer says it is a leak in the power steering system and that the rack system (steering gear) needed to be replaced estimated repair $1360.00 plus a 1.5 days in the shop. After researching seems that this issue is well know to owners of the 06 t&c.
Steering rack and pins.i own a 2006 town & country and took it in for 19 point check up and heard whining when turning on the van.told that the steering rack was leaking.informed by dealer this is a major thing going on in these vehicles.did research on line to find over 2,000 complaints regarding this issue.cost over $900.00.this should seriously be looked into and a recall should be made if people are having this many problems.
Several tmes the head lights have went out while going down the road. Can not find any thing loose or corroded. Mostly happens during damp weather. The wipers have quit once also. Power steering pump is going out also.
Parked car at foodlion car engine catch on fire local fire department came out to put out the fire. Fire department stated it was the power steering line or transmission line that caught on fire which in turn caught the back of the motor on fire.
When driving in rain through a puddle (1" deep) my power steering went out when i tried to turn making it almost impossible to steer.mechanic stated that it was likely due to location of the belt which can fail when wet and was a known issue with this model vehicle.since then, this has occurred 3 times, always in rain.this is extremely dangerous as it makes it almost impossible to steer the vehicle.i was told there is no known fix for the problem.
I have a 2006 chrysler town and country that the rack and pinion is leaking power steering fluid.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.while turning or merging to the right, the steering freezes.on october 29, 2007, the contact was nearly struck head on by oncoming traffic when the steering wheel froze in place.the failure usually occurs at intersections where water drains off the road or when driving over a pot hole; however, it always occurs when steering to the right.the dealer stated that it was a design flaw.the contact is filing a law suit under the lemon law.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 18,200.
Purchased my van in 2008, used with 40000 miles on it. In winter of 2009 i noticed a loud whining noise when turning but once engine warmed up would stop. Had power steering fluid check and was low. Filled stopped noise. Same in 2010, 2011, and now 2012. Have to constantly fill fluid. It has to be leaking somewhere. From what i have read this is not a cheap fix. And more importantly if someone's power steering goes out going down a highway or interstate... Very very dangerous. This is a part defect and consumers should not be paying for the fix. Chrysler should. With all the complaints, what will it take for a recall?
Power steering system has been whining and steering has shuddered when turning at low speeds. Same condition exists on three other chrysler town and country minivans owned by different family members from 2006 through 2009 models. Found many other owners complaining of same condition on other websites. Some had two and three rack and pinion racks replaced which seemed to fix the problem for a short while. My mechanic thought it was air leaking into the power steering system.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that his 30 pound infant pulled on the automatic transmission lever while no key was in the ignition.the vehicle began moving and crashed into a stop sign.the dealer stated that a pin in the steering column failed and needed to be replaced at the cost of over $1,595.the technician further stated that it normally takes excessive force to break that pin, which is impossible for a 30 pound infant.the steering column did not lock properly to prevent the gears from shifting.the vehicle has not been repaired.he is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 46,000.
Power steering rack leakinghad to have it replaced today at about 51k miles.had noticed some whining noises back in the mid 40k range thought it was do to the cold weather. I know there have been alot of complaints about this issue.now with chrysler in bankruptcy doubt anything will come of it as far as a recall goes.but its obvious that its a faulty part. Guess next time i by a car its going to be a toyota or honda, im all for american made products but not when they are this unreliable.
My 2006 chrysler town and country has a whine in the steering. After researching on-line and talking to local mechanics this is a very common and costly issue. The minimum cost i have found is around $800. Chrysler to my knowledge has not stepped up and addressed this. A 2 yr. Old vehicle should not have this problem.
My 2006 town and country power steering rack is leaking. I had my oil changes on a regular basis no one ever said anything about leak until it was no longer under warranty. And i read several letters stating the chrysler knows about it! wow what a rip off and they should handle this with a recall and fix it. Over $1,500 to fix! i don't have that kind of money in today's world.
If we turn the steering wheel to the right, there is a mechanical clicking noise.
There was a fluid leak at the power steering rack they replaced gear-rack and pinion.parts $394.60labor $456.00 fluid power steering $19.60-service completedunder iws. Extended warrantytotal invoice $ 850.60 mileage 61,394.
2006 town & country minivan makes a loud whining sound when cold outside and the steering fluid needs to be filled abnormally often. This happened daily until i checked a car repair website and they told me to check the fluids and when we did we saw that the steering fluid was very low. Since then my husband checks it weekly and fills it when needed. I haven't taken it in (because we can't afford a large repair bill) the research i have done on-line shows that this is an ongoing problem with this make and model... Why hasn't there been a recall yet??? help, this vehicle is our family car and we carry our children in it.. We are still paying off this car... One more year.... Please help us and make them finally issue a recall...... Don't let the big car makers get away with treating us like this....
Whining noise coming from under left side of hood. Took car to chrysler dealership & was told that the whining noise was from the power steering & it needs a reservoir & it needs to reroute cooler hose . Was also told there is a bulletin on how this would be done. After seeing the many problems other customers are having i can't understand why chrysler would let the safety of their customers suffer. What happened to "we will take responsibility for the failure of our product". This problem will cost from $400-$500, but will cost so much more if the loyal american customer is lost. I love my t&c but i will not be a support system or doormat for a company we have all helped from the brink.the car only has 78k miles & i was just about to pass it on to my daughter, but this is dangerous & i will not be buying another of your products! please be responsible & forget the greed & step up chrysler!
Driving home but needed to stop at grocery store, when i turned to go into a parking space my car steering wheel stopped working, i had to drift into the space. I thought i had accidentally put the car into neutral. So i parked, turned on the car and started to drive again, rounded a corner and my steering went out again. Had car towed to local dealership, where they found that the clock spring in the steering wheel was defective. It was replaced and so far steering seems to be okay. Though it seems to steer without as much give as it used to have when turning. Luckily, it did not happen when i was on the main road a few minutes before.
I own a 2006 chrysler town and country van.i noticed a whining moaning sound coming from the front of the car.i took it in to chrysler today and was told it was the reservoir power steering.this van only has 42,000 miles on it.i have been looking on the internet and there are many mant posts about the same problem that leads to bigger problems...like the steering rack.i think this issue needs to be addressed by chrysler and a recall issued.these vehicles should not be doing this over and over.i do not drive the van rough or excessively.i am a mother of 3 children.we just drive.this repair was not even covered on the extended warranty.that makes no sense.please look into this and make chrysler do something about it.
Whining noises from power steering unit or rack.more audible when fluid is lower.seems that im not the only one: http://townhall.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f172b27.
Filled the tank with gas, started driving was making a turn and the engine conked out. Luck was with me, as i was not in traffic at that time.
At about 68,000 miles on my 2006 town and country minivan, the power steering started making a loud whining noise.turns out the rack is leaking and this wears on the power steering motor.checked to see if there was a recall, none that i can find.but it appears that there are over 2000 complaints for the same problem.hope they put in for a recall before anyone gets injured and then the lawsuits would cost chrysler more than just fixing the original problem.
I own a 2006 town and country with 44,925 miles.at 38,000 mile (just out of warranty i noticed a whine in the engine compartment after interstate driving.after checking i noticed that the power steering fluid was low but not empty.i filled the unit and the noise subsided but didn't go away.i read that the power steering reservoir sometimes has a plugged filter so i changed the reservoir but no change.i've continually had to add small amounts of atf +4 most recently 2 weeks ago.after checking today the level is down again. And the rack and pinion assy boot is leaking.cost to replace ... About $1000 if the pump is ok.my first and last chrysler product.
I started having a whining noise when i started but my 2006 chrysler town and country.now the noise has gotten louder and continues when you turn the wheel.i have taken it to a mechanic and they said i need a new rack and pinion, hoses, reservoir and power steering pump. This is a major problem for these vans and chrysler know about the issue because the mechanic at the dealership says that they see a lot of these in.also if you look online there are many post about these problems like at http://www.townhall-talkedmunds.com/direct/view/.f172b27/40 . This problem happens everyday and know i was told if this is not fixed it can cause fires or the vehicle dying on me.
Power steering fluid leak.requires replacement of rack and pinion.
2006 chrysler town and country. Power steering failure at 29352 miles lost all fluid and replaced power steering cooler now at 42703 i am told power steering gear leaking at outer boots $800 repair.
We had our rack and pinion replaced by chrysler over a year ago.it would become hard to steer whenever we would go over any puddles/snow.they say they replaced it, but it still does the same thing.even when we leave it out in the rain over night, the next day it squeals and we can't move the steering wheel.it's the same thing, puddle, rain or snow, squeal and loss of steering anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.there is a definite design defect with this particular model and it will take someone dying because of it for them to recall this van.we also have always had a rubber burning smell from the front left tire side whenever we have a change in the temperature, around 30-40degrees, usually in wet/slush weather conditions.very strange and nothing has ever been done about it nor can chrysler tell us what it's coming from.
Replaced pump 4 times with no fix.
A loud whine started in the engine compartment and steering became difficult.dealership stated that the rack of the steering system had leaked and lost the power steering fluid.the dealership stated this was a common problem.the rack and pinion of the steering had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power steering would disengage independently.the contact mentioned that during cold weather the steering wheel made a loud noise when turning.in addition, the contact stated both sliding doors failed to lock. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician referred the contact to take the vehicle to the authorized dealer.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000. Updated 01/12/15*lj the consumer stated the passenger airbag light remained on.updated 06/3/2015
I have a 2006 chrysler town & country mini-van that has approx. 45000 miles on it.it started whining when the engine started.then i noticed that the power-steering fluid was low and their was a small puddle on the driveway. I took it to the dealership to have it diagnosed.they said the rack & pinion steering failed on the vehicle and it needed a new steering rack.chrysler acknowledged that there was a problem with this part but they would not do anything to fix it.i had to pay $750 to get it fixed.i have read online many instances of this failing and yet chrysler still will not issue a recall on this.it is dangerous to have all of these vehicles on the road with potential steering problems.
Power steering goes out.so far this has been just when i turn the vehicle on, but it's happened 3 times now and yesterday was accompanied by a squeal.
Grinding humming noise with power steering.chrysler mechanic told me that chrysler did not make the hose long enough so it gets clogged and causes problems.told me also that rack needs to be replaced because it is leaking.this should be a recall.i paid for the new hose so far but don't want to pay $1000 for a new rack when it is their fault.
Power steering-whining noise. Need replacing at a cost of 900.00.
Power steering leak and failure. Began with whinning noise at around 70,000. Upon inspection, power steering assembly failed and required replacement. Found many other owners complaining of same condition on other websites. Some had two and three rack and pinion racks replaced which seemed to fix the problem for a short while. Concerned about power steering failure at such low mileage and possible safety risk for my daughter who has just begun driving. Appears to be a very common problem at low mileage for this model and have requested a recall from chrysler.
Was told by 2 different repair shops, the steering rack and pinion system for my van is seeping fluid. It has not failed yet but is a potential catastrophy in waiting. From research i have found thousands of simular complaints/failure of the steering system for this year and make of chrysler van.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that when driving at any speed, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormally loud whining noise from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the noise was coming from the steering column. The dealer added power steering fluid to the vehicle. Approximately six months later, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where more power steering fluid was added. The failure persisted. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 6,000 and the current mileage was 69,300.
There is a loud whirring noise and i took it to the dealership i purchased it from and they told me that it needed the power steering reservoir replaced. The cost would be $400.00 + to replace. I decided to research this issue on the internet and came across many other complaints of the same issue. I think chrysler should issue a recall for this problem and foot the billas there are many, many consumers experiencing the same problem that i have.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Power steering pump problems. Steering rack failure.
Rack and pinion failure.
The steeringrack and pinion has started to leak and make noise at 45000 miles. The chrysler dealership in town said that there is no warrant on this,as i would have to pay for it at 850.00. In reading the chat lines it appears to behappening to a lot of folks.
Rack and pinion steering failure.general whining noise had been occurring for 10-15000 miles, with no discernible loss of power steering fluid.increased noise and banging noise, led us to the rack and pinion steering failure.
Noise was told that the power steering is leaking, must replace rack & pinion car has less than 80,000.
I have a 2006 chrysler town and country van that is having power steering problems. I only have 44,000 miles now and the problem started at 35,000 miles. I took it to the dealer twice before my 36k mile warranty was up and they said it was a common noise. I said okay and left, now i need a new power steering pump that could have been done under warranty. This noise and problem starts about 30 minutes after i start driving or the fluid gets warm. This problem makes it difficult to steer the van. I have not replaced the pump yet due to the cost of repairs. The dealer estimate is around $600-700. I googled this problem and found a web site at edmunds.com. This site has 84 posts about the same problem. The posts start on 11/29/07 thru today. Thank you for your time.
Returining from trip, car was making whining sound that got louder with acceleration. Took to dealership (chrysler) - was told rack was dry -no fluid. $1228 for replacement of power steering and rack. Turns out it is a known issue with chrysler 2006 model -see complaints here -http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f172b27/80i feel chrysler should be paying to replace these as it is a manufacturing defect.

Rack and pinion failure.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town & country. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph, proceeding to make a turn. There was a loud whining noise coming from the steering wheel. When the vehicle was parked the contact detected power steering fluid leakage on the ground. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The failure was contributed to the steering rack and pinion. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 50,000. The current mileage was 70,000.

The steering rack on my 2006 chrysler van needed to be replaced, since it was leaking.the van had 39,006 miles on it. I have my oil changed every 3,000 miles. The steering rack was not leaking at the last oil change. Chrysler stated my van was out of warranty and would not cover the cost of the repair which was $570.00.

The spare tire carriers do not release the tire. This can be dangerous on the highway when trying to change a tire. The cable releases but the tire stays up. You have to lay on the ground get your legs under the car while it is jacked up and with try to kick the tire loose. Very dangerous! we have a fleet of dodge / chrysler mini vans most have experienced the issue. When we were notified of the toyota campaign i immediately thought why chrysler has not done anything about this potentially dangerous situation.
While driving down a road at 20mph, the spare tire fell out of my chrysler town and country 2006van. It became lodged under the vehicle.the vehicle had to be jacked up and the tire was then released.the cable is frayed.further damage was done to pipes that fell with the tire.the car had to be towed to the dealer to be repaired as i felt it would be unsafe to attempt to drive there.i called chrysler to see if there had been a safety recall and was told that this has not been an issue. After researching online, i discovered that it has been and is an issue.i am concerned about mine and others safety regarding these vehicles with spare tires mounted underneath.if i had been driving faster, or on a highway, injuries or fatalities could have resulted.i called chrysler regarding this and was questioned about my driving and whether i hit something, which i assure you i did not. I am concerned that chrysler is not taking this issue seriously.

I am concerned that the airbags did not deploy, the damage to the vehicle is substantial. My wife and son had both minor injuries.
The whole lower body is rusted with deep holes and i had to repair several times. This vehicle will not pass the next ma state inspection. The rust started appearing three to four years ago. I have replaced the front hood due to large holes. Under the body floor panels holes have appeared. I see all kinds of same model years when i drive hundreds of ones over the years and i see rust all all of them. Some severe some minor but i always see rust. The included pictures are a very small snapshot.

The failure mileage was 41,201 and the current mileage was 41,636.
The automatic sliding doors the sensors do not do their job!! we questioned this with the salesman upon purchase and we were reassured they work fine then we asked about it after purchase while in for other repairs still reassured they work fine cause "if it doesn't do it while it is here then there isn't anything wrong with it". (that is what the tech's always say when they don't have an answer) we had the worst run in with the electronic doors this morning 6/19/2008! drivers side. I a grown 115 pound 5foot 4 woman was pinned hip to hip my right knee was resting on the floor board facing in the car . While i pushed back to get free the door only made the noises of it trying to open ddd ddd ddd it did not for at least a minute that is a long time to have that continually adding more pressure while the door tried to force itself closed on me as an adult thank god it was not one of my smaller children. I am positive that would have caused extreme injuries on one of them or any child. Im surprised it didn't injure me worse. I was sure the latch had punctured my thigh fortunately it had not. I was left with a good size probably 1 1/2 - 2 in hard lump and a wonderfully colorful bruise and lots of soreness not only to the touch but walking and putting my weight down on my right leg.

My 2 year old son pushed the button to close the hatch on our 2006 town and country mini-van and my husband was packing the car and was under the hatch and he thought is was going to bounce back up like it has in the past and it did not.the back hatch kept closing down on him he thought it was going to pin him in so he put his arm over his head to try and stop the hatch from pushing down on him and only when he pushed up so hard that is snapped the arm off the back hatch did it stop and bounce back up.also my husbands wrist and arm were swollen from the hatch pushing down on him.that could have been by two year son under there and it could of killed a small child or person.my husband stated he barely was able to push the hatch up.

Each front coil spring broke about two years aparti was driving about 55 mph on a busy city highway when i suddenly felt what appeared to be a badly balanced tire. I managed to exit and stop in a retail parking lot and inspect the tires.what i found was a broken front driver side coil spring resting on the tire.the tire was hot enough to smoke.the tire was no longer usable.about 2 years ago on the same vehicle the passenger side front coil spring broke, but did not rub on the tire.it seems so odd that two coiled springs broke on the same vehicle.after hearing of other failures i thought it should be reported.i do feel blessed that an accident did not occur in either case.model year: 2006make: chryslermodel: town & country touring lmileage: 109775

I drove my van to work.parked it in the parking lot just like any other day. There were absolutely no problems prior to this issue.when i went to leave in my vehicle on my work lunch break, my van wouldn't move.the front driver side suspension spring broke while the van was sitting in the parking lot. I researched this issue and found it to be a common problem with some ford models, however have not found anything similar in dodge or chrysler vehicles.my van currently has 49,000 miles on it and really should not have had this issue. I am very lucky that the spring did not break while i was driving to work. The van was towed to a local repair shop and will be fixed tomorrow.

The rear evaporator on the a.c. Unit has failed. Chrysler has not addressed this on-going problem.
My 2006 chrysler town and countryhas 160,000 and reverse doesn't work i'm really tired of these car transmission failure so expensive to fix
When using overhead console button or key fob to open the rear lift gate when the vehicle is in park, engine running or not - no difference- the automatic gate will open fully and then close immediately on anyone standing under it trying to access the cargo area. When opening the lift gate manually it will open fully but will not remain open without someone holding it open or putting some type of block in the mechanism. The lift gate malfunction is quite hazardous as it will come down on top of a person and will not stop if anything is in the way, such as an appendage or a child.
1 august 2015 i had an oil change and was notified that my spare tire was dangling underneath the car.efforts to crank up the tire to seat properly failed.i don't ever recall lowering the spare tire since i've had the van.today i had the spare tire winch mechanism replaced for $265.57.my concern was safety, since the continuous wobbling of the tire might eventually fray the cable to the point where it could break.if the tire broke loose, particularly while on a high-speed interstate highway, its impact on the fuel tank could be catastrophic.....updated 11/13/15

While i was driving my spare tire broke loose and fell off lodging itself under my town and country mini van. This brought my car to a halt with no warning brake lights.cars had to swarm on the grass to avoid an accident. Luckily i was in a neighborhood. If i had been on the highway a lot of people may have died, it would have caused a pile up of cars. A tire should never be placed where it can fall off and cause a safety problem where lives are in jeopardy.chrysler would not even put a new bracket to hold my spare tire. They should be so happy that no one was injured and willing to fix a dangerous problem at no charge to me. Right before that i took my car in and said to do a multipoint inspection because i was leaving to go out of town. I had a brake light out and 3 tires that needed air. They gave me the car back and said on paperwork the inspection was done. (if they had checked would they have seen my tire problem?) when i got on the highway my light said tires need air. I called and asked if they put air in my tires and they said yes. I took my car back to my neighbor and air had not put in the tires, had to go to an auto store and buy a light. Someone was in a hurry and signed off that they checked my car and sent me on my way to travel unprepared.due to the lies of the service center in orlando that i went to and chrysler unwilling to fix the spare tire problem, i will never buy another chrysler and will make sure i let people know my experience. They said no one else had a tire fall off so they do not see it as an issue. So now it is on record, so if it happens to someone else and a life is lost, chrysler does know of the potential problem.

The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the windshield wiper failed. The windshield wiper was replaced at least three times. I was driving on the highway in my mini van when the right side rear panel window exploded.sounded like a gun shot.the window was gone.i pulled over out shear fear and a truck with two men following behind me witnessed the explosion and pulled over as well to make sure i was ok.they remarked they have never seen anything like it.this was in 2007 with approximately 20,000 miles on vehicle.i went to dealership and had window replaced.well it happened again yesterday 5/20/2011.close to 4 years later with about 79,000 miles on the vehicle. My husband was driving the vehicle, i was in front passenger seat, my dad behind me and my child in the far back seat.the same window exploded, again sounded like a gun shot.the window exploded and my child seated in the far back but luckily seated by the left side rear panel covered her head and face from the explosion.thank goodness she was not next to the window that exploded.in both cases when that same window exploded there was no type of weather conditions happening.just quiet calm day.the dealership is doing nothing about it since they have no other record of this occurring with other mini vans.the dealership basically is saying just to replace the window once again.i am not comfortable with this resolution for i think there is something terribly wrong and it is not safe. I worry about other families and their town and country mini vans especially since this is where most children sit.i do not trust that window now.
Several tmes the head lights have went out while going down the road. Can not find any thing loose or corroded. Mostly happens during damp weather. The wipers have quit once also. Power steering pump is going out also.
Side window electrical does not work also doors will lock and unlock without me touching controls it has done this for several years and i can't afford to fix it.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the windshield wipers would not deactivate when the wiper switch was turned off. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 06v067000 (visibility) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
I hit a bump and my wind shield wiper cut on and would not cut off even when i turnedthe van off the windshield wiper kept running i had to remove the fuss. When i put the fuss backin the wiper are not working at all now.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the passengers side rear window shattered without warrant. On a separate occasion, the same failure occurred to the middle passengers side window. The dealer was unable to provide an explanation for the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country.the rear electric window shattered as the occupants exited the vehicle; however, no one exited through the rear door.the contact stated that she heard the window cracking before it shattered inside the vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 29,500.
Woke up this morning and back windshield was blown out. Large hole in the middle was spider web and all four corners were cracked out. Filed a police report and said is was not vandalism, but the window blew out from pressure or faulty glass. Looking online it appears this is very common for this vehicle. Seems to be a pretty big safety hazard. I wonder why it has not been recalled.
2006 chrysler town &country.attorney representing consumer writes in regards to a shattered rear window and injury to consumer.the consumer was injured, when he braced his hand against the rear window and the glass made a banging sound and shattered, which resulted in the consumer needing surgery to his right hand.
Thanks!

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 mph on the interstate, the passenger rear tire suddenly went flat without warning.the vehicle slid across the interstate and hit a guardrail.there was damage done to the vehicle.the police was at the scene, but a report was not filed.a tire dealership examined the tire and determined there was nothing wrong with the tire; however the air valve on the wheel was leaking air.the dealership repaired the air valve.
The contact owns a 2006 chrysler town and country. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked the valve stem ejected from the wheel. The contact changed the tire due to a flat. A mechanic advised the contact to have the valve stem replaced since they were known to be defective. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 92,000.vin not available
Check for any recalls.
