June 24,2009 the airbag on my 2004 caravan -decided to explode.i was not in an accident (also it was the passenger side air bag).i was leaving my house going maybe 10mph all of a sudden i smelled something like rubber burning, right after that the air bag exploded.i called chrysler and they had the care investigated. They found that the computer for the air bag was defaulted.they would not fix my car because i didn't have a warranty anymore.they also told me that they disconnected the driver side one. So right now i am driving a car with no protection.

1) 2004 chrysler town and country minivan was the third car in a six car crash. It was stopped at a light behind other vehicles and in front of a red mercedes when a nissan sedan slammed into the rear of the line of cars without ever applying its brakes.2) a & b. Front driver and passenger airbags failed to deploy when the t&c slammed into the cadillac immediately in front of it sending that car into the two cars further up the line. C. The back of the occupied second row captain's chair broke sending its occupant backwards into an occupant of the third row seat. Four of the five septagenarians in the t&c were taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver's head smashed into the roof of the vehicle and his left arm was thrown violently into the door. My father, the driver, says he was knocked unconscious. He could not see out of his left eye for several days. The car was a total loss. I flew from ca to tx and drove his rv to my sister's home in va so she could look after mom and dad. They and their rv buddies cut short their planned trip and all three rvs returned to va this week. Charlie, arlene, and betty are receiving medical attention for their injuries.3) the car was a total loss. Therefore, it will be replaced with a safer vehicle. However, the nhtsa shows two four star and two five star ratings for this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 184,000.

The airbag it's been turning off and on constantly. I hadn't have any type of accident at all but now every time i'm driving on the streetand the highway the airbag light turns on and stays on for most part of my driving. This is the only car i have and i drive all the time the light will turn on mostly while i'm driving and sometimes while it's park the light stays on

While driving at any speed, the consumer adjusted the seat and the srs light appeared on the dashboard. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem at thistime.please provide further details.

The air bag light stays illuminated after starting the vehicle.

I had taken the vehicle for repair on two occasions due to turn signals malfunctioning, power windows malfunctioning, and back sliding doors malfunctioning.on the first occasion malfunctions could not be enacted.on second occasion, a switch was replaced. On june 28, 2006 van was hit in rear pushed into another car and thrown into an 18 wheeler traveling 60 miles per hour and no airbags deployed.

Dt*:the contact stated without incident, the airbag light illuminates intermittently.also, the turn signals would not cancel.the dealership determined the clock spring needs to be replaced.the turn signal switch was replaced to repair the turn signals.

After impact with a high curb in a parking lot doing approximately 5 miles per hour, both front air bags deployed.this seems to be an issue in a 2005 recall by chrysler but not the 2004.this is definitely a safety issue and should be dealt with immediately.

My air bag light came on about 2 weeks ago. It now stays on most of the time.

I got the town and country chrysler 2004, and the air bag lights started to blink on and offafter a year, in 2005 the lights were permanently on. I had a crash in 2009 not big enough to make the air bag work anyway the air bags red light were on, then the dealer gave the data of how longthe air bag were not working, it seems that it had the same problem as the air bags recall 1998/2002. I had several other problems in fixing this car but i do want to know if the 2004 made is included in the recall. I don't want to wait for a big accident to realize that the air bags have to be recall and fix it.

Front passenger seat back broke during a rear end collisionseat belts did not deploy when the car impacted a vehicle in front of itdriver seat belt did not protect driver from hitting the top of the car with his head, and also caused a bruise on the left arm which contacted the upper seat belt bracket.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while reversing at 5 mph after refueling the vehicle, it stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired but the failure recurred multiple times. The contact mentioned the last failure resulted in the vehicle being unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 144,963.

Where to begin?1) wiring that run along passenger side door to control rear hatch, and back side sliding door severed by opening slider door. Car can no longer be locked because the power door look system controls were cut when the wiring was cut.2) complete loss of displays and controls in the dashboard, with no warning that it was going to happen. Everything worked in the evening, and was lost the next morning. No wipers, lights, displays, etc. Car sat in driveway for 12 hours, from the time it worked, to the time that we discovered nothing worked.3) problem w/ power steering. Car makes a wining noise and drinks power steering fluid. Several different websites report this as a common problem, and the dealer wants a $1200 repair. This should be a recall.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact started the vehicle was parked with the engine off when it caught fire. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The fire originated from the driver side sliding door panel. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The dealer replaced the panel to the door and the driver's power seat. The door and driver seat were only able to be operated manually and not automatic. The failure mileage was 124,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the warning lights and the interior lights started blinking on and off. The contact also stated that after turning the vehicle off it would not restart. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where the alternator, ignition switch, and the starter were replaced but the vehicle failed to start. The contact was informed that there was an electrical problem with the vehicle but the technician was unable to locate the source of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 135,000.

The ignition switch on my 2004 chrysler town & country minivan has failed four times.it has been replaced each time.

My town and country has been in the repair shop approx. 11 times now.it has 20,000 miles on it.the first incident happened at about approx 3,000 miles into it, about 1 month old, it shuts off by itself.this progressivly got worse, it runs very rough and loses power while driving.the steering fluid has leaked twice, first time at 6,000 miles, approx 2-3 months old.brakes replaced approx 15,000squeal in belt.odor in a/c.

This time i was heading down with my family from one of the highest spots at yellowstone national park. My speed was about 45 mph and two lane road with lot of turns. No other traffic in front or behind me. I turned high beams on and there we go, headlights gone. I pulled quickly fog lights on to have some lights. No other options than continue to the next place where i could pull car to side of the road.when stopped i checked if knocking ecm works but it didn't, normally it does. I released four screws and pulled ecm out. Installed my spare ecm, no lights. I installed the old ecm module back and wiggled it and lights came on. I didn't check on the spot that would i have high beams. 1 hour later when we got to cottage we rented i wanted to know what happen this time when turning high beams on. Lights gone again. This time knocking ecm module helped. I tested high beam and low beams multiple times and no issues.loosing head light have happen with this vehicle before however the issue is that it is intermittent. I haven't found any logic how to repeat it what makes it scary / uncomfortable.

I found last night when i was about to leave from home for some home depot shopping that my headlights didn't turn on. This is low and high beams. Fog lights, corner lights and indicators work just normally.

Chrysler has discontinued backlighting of door light switches, power door switch, power mirror switch, headlamp switch, and low line window switches.during night time driving, it's very hard to locate these switches withoutdistracting your driving ability. Took the van into dealer to have the lights re-activated (they are there), but service department couldn't enable them.(chrysler has a bulletin on this, #08-018-02.

Within a few minutes of filling the fuel tank, the engine will stalls. It can happen at any speed from 0-50 mph. The engine will stall about 80% of the time after fuelling.

We experienced a recurrence of the vehicle not starting again. This is the 4th time within the past year.this intermittent problem seems to occur when the engine is started and stopped within a short period of time. When attempting to start the van, the engine turns over and starts but then immediately stops.it is as if an anti theft switch is engaged or the remote starter mechanism malfunctions and stops the engine.after letting the vehicle sit for an hour, it was able start up and remain running.the van was driven the next day and a powerful electrical burning smell was noticeable from the engine compartment.a faint clicking/squeaking noise was also heard in the vicinity of the alternator. The vehicle was towed into the dealership about two months ago for the same situation, but the vehicle started the next day and service was unable to determine the cause.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated the vehicle caught on fire while sitting idle with the engine off. The fire department was contacted and determined the fire originated from under the rear driver's side sliding door panel. The dealer came out to take pictures of the damage and the vehicle was towed. The dealer was able to repair the vehicle however; the contact was unsatisfied with the quality of the repairs. The majority of the vehicle electrical components were no longer operable, such as the power locks and windows, and the air bag warning light was illuminated on the dashboard. There were no further repairs. The failure mileage was 126,000 and the current mileage was 127,000.updated 8/4/10 updated 08/09/10

Takata recallthe fule rail wiring harness melted down.the wiring harnes is installed right above the exhaust from the factory. The heat from the exhaust over time melted a 4 inch section of the insulation off of the wiring harness causing them to sort out.the van had 130000 miles when this happened.it left me and my family stranded on the freeway, it happened while i was driving. This was very unsafe to have the engine stall out on the freeway. Clearly there should be more than 2 inches between the wiring harness and the exhaust system. I had the van towed to my mechanic$150. Then they replaced the old harness $400 parts $435 labor total $985 dollars!

My 2004 chrysler town & country has been in the shop 4 times for the same problem. It was for a problem chrysler has put a bulletin out on regarding malfunction indicator lamp illumination with diagnostic codes p0300-p0306 (spark plugs). The light has come on 4 different occasions during a 7 month period. Dealer replaced spark plugs all 4 times and reprogrammed the tran module.they are giving me the excuse that i am probably just getting defective spark plugs.i have had a computer in the car that i drove with and it showed nothing to them as they tell me. They say car isn't doing anything when they drive it. After 4th repair i have brought it back after driving only a few days telling them it still is not fixed, they say it doesn't do it for them and they can't do anything else unless the light comes on again.the car bucks, surges, transmission seems to mis, car has back fired going up hill,no power going up hills or inclines, car even loses power going 55 mph plus on highways, when light does finally come on car will not let you go over 10 miles per hour, feels like it is going to stall bucks and surges.the light has not come on again yet for the 5th time but it will eventually with the same codes for the spark plugs, and again i will bring it back to have it not fixed again , by them changing the spark plugs yet again.i also saw a bulletin on this site about a creak, tick, and pop sound in steering column which i asked dealer to checkwhen it was brought in last visit, they said it was nothing, and did nothing about it,now i see other people obviously have same problem,, not fixed. I have no clue if this is a safety hazard and what, if anything, could happen . Sway bar was replaced for noise when going over bumps, and rear window motor was defective and replaced also on this car.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The vehicle was parked when someone informed the contact that smoke was emitting from the vehicle. The contact attempting to open the door but it would not open and the alarm did not function. The fire department was called and the as the firemen broke the window to get into the vehicle, the driver side door became engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and the main cable cut to prevent any future fires. The fire marshall stated that "the fire was located behind the driver's seat in the b-post where electrical equipment failed causing the fire". The vehicle was towed to the local dealership where the door panel, seat belts, and driver seat were replaced. The vehicle was electrical but the dealer switched everything to manual after the fire. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that there were no related recalls for the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.

This vehicle turns off when driving and there is no power to the car at all, no brakes, steering, headlights and the car can not be restarted, you canteven unlock it too get out or get the windows down. The dash lights go out, check engine light cant be reset, fan and a/c controls never turn off if the car is running and dings and beeps went it wants to like its crying for help.

While driving on 3 separate occasions vehicle stalled.then, vehicle lost power, andall the warning lights on the dashboard came on. Dealershipreprogrammed the main computer twice. Vehicle is currently at dealership for the same failure.

Driving 65 mph at highway. Turned high beam lights on and headlights stop working. Turned fog lights on to see side of the road. Reduced speed to stop vehicle. Opened hood and checked ecm / fcm by wiggling it. Started vehicle and headlights came back.

I went to turn on my headlights, and they didn't come on. All the other lights work. Parking, dash, tail, and the high beam indicator. But no headlights. Also l read that people complained about windshield washer' not working. I tried mine and they also didn't work. I see there is a recall on same problem with the 2005 - 2007 chrysler town and country limited and they are under a recall. Mine is a 2004 t & country limited.itmy mechanic has checked all the fuses andrelay's and can't find anything wrong except for the lights and wind washers not working. I called my chrysler dealership and they acted like they never heard of the problem. But that's o k with them because they don't have to drive a car without headlights.

Van stalls after fillups. Lose power and control of van when accelerating onto road.very dangerous.this is a common problem with these mini vans.check the internet and you will see. I am not sure what to do.

If you even vacuum out the van, it will not start again.

When i bought the van i didn't know work was really needed till 06/2018 and i just wanted to no if im qualified for a recall. Thank you

Within a few minutes of filling the fuel tank, the engine will stalls. It can happen at any speed from 0-50 mph. The engine will stall about 80% of the time after fuelling.

This vehicle stalls after refueling. I google the problem and i found numerous complaints from people with this problem all having chrysler/dodge vehicles.this is a huge safety concern as the vehicles tend to randomly stall after refueling.several mechanics posted the cause as being a defective value on the top of the fuel tank causing the problem. This is one of those posts.shops are reporting a problem with the gas tank on dodge caravan, grand caravan, plymouth voyager, and town and country vans. Shortly after refueling, drivers experience engine stalling. The stalling may repeat several times.the problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank. The valve is designed to prevent liquid fuel from entering the charcoal canister/emissions system. When the valve fails, liquid gas can enter the line and fill the charcoal canister.after refueling the pcm on the vehicle detects a change in fuel level. Then, when the engine meets certain temperature and driving criteria, the pcm issues a purge command to the charcoal canister to remove the stored gas vapors. It?s at that point that all the liquid gas in the line gets sucked into the charcoal canister. The pcm expects to see gas vapors entering the intake manifold and it is prepared to adjust air/fuel mixtures to compensate. However, it is not prepared to see liquid gas coming into the intake. That?s what causes the engine to stall.unfortunately, the only fix is to replace the entire gas tank. Chrysler does not sell the vapor/liquid valve as a separate unit. Once the tank is replaced and the charcoal canister purged, the problem goes away.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and became difficult to maneuver left or right. The abs and engine warning indicators illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle would overheat. The vehicle was taken to boyd chrysler jeep of south hill (200 w danville st, south hill, va 23970), but was not diagnosed or repaired due to the diagnostic and repair fees. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000. Consumer stated in the last few months the van has had problems. Smoke comes out of the engine and it has holes in the gas tank and by that it doesn't pass the inspection. Updated 7/26/18

After filling up with fuel, the car was started, and driven out of the gas station, but less than 50 feet out onto the road, the car lost power then regained power then lost it cycling rapidly through this where rpm would come up to idle speed than drop to near zero up and down.no ability to move out of traffic, etc., eventually completely stalled.the car started hard, but restarted and i could drive out of harms way.the car drove for about 2 blocks and acted up again for a few moments and then performed fine.this problem also occurred for another driver in the family about 2 weeks (4 fuel fills) earlier.

Every time when fill up the gas tank the engine will stalled (but you can start up ) will run rough for 4 to 5 miles after that engine will back to normal condition, i have known a lot people have a same problem with there types of vehicles, this does sound like a design flaw. About 75,000 miles it started to stall right after filling up.it is a dangerous situation especially if it stalls in the middle of an intersection or on railroad tracks. Chrysler should recall there types of vehicle.

About 3 min after filling up vehicle stalled after pulling out of station. Power steering failed and could not move out of lane. Took a couple of tries to restart and move to safety. Second time this problem has happened. This will cause an accident!!!

For the past five years (since 2009), my 2004 chrysler town & country van wants to die soon after every time that is filled with gas (no matter the octane type).the problem most typically resolves itself after 5 minutes or so, but in the interim there have been numerous close calls as the van loses function with the power trying to die.i have ended up learning to drive with the car in neutral and coast while revving the van.or better yet at a stop light race the engine with the car in neutral (i see nothing bad that can happen with this solution!!).for the most part the car is used only when needed anymore as we are terrified of filling the car up.we are very lucky to be able to drive it part time but some people aren't so fortunate and this is a car that drives many families.it is deplorable to see so many people having this problem and yet no one chooses to acknowledge the design flaw of the vapor/liquid valve.please take notice of this problem before someone is seriously injured or killed!

After every fuel fill the vehicle runs rough or stalls. Most times for the first mile then clears up. Almost impossible to pull out in traffic after filling the tank.

Spurious engine failures.has happened approximately 10 times in past year.engine loses power (chugs) then quits completely.no problem restarting engine and continuing.dealer unable to duplicate problem.

The 2004 chrysler town and country check engine light came on and the engine was running rough, especially inidle.the odometer readingwas 37,500, the vehiclewas3.5 years. Old, and it has a 3.8 liter engine. A chrysler dealer ran a diagnostic check and determined that new spark plugs and wires were needed.also, some computer codes may need to be reset.cost would be $350.i bought the parts and installed them myself.i replaced many spark plugs in the old days and these were the worst looking plugs i haveever seen.the tips of the electrodes were severely rounded off on all 6 plugs.i owned chrysler/plymouth minivans since 1984 and only remember replacing spark plugs once, and probably @ a high mileage. Champion warrants their platinum plugs for 5 years.chrysler's maintenance schedule says to replace spark plugs and wires @ "100,000 miles".something must be wrong with this engine.

My van completely shut down after i filled the tank with gas.i didn't know what happend but i had no power to steer to the side of the road and had to turn off the engine and try to restart it several times before it started again.i have had this problem every time i fill the tank, from any level of gas.if i can leave the gas station and travel to .7 miles with constant pressure on the gas pedal, it sometimes won't die. If i have to brake, the engine completely chokes out.i have taken it back to the service department and they said they couldn't fix it because they needed to be able to fill it to see it happen and they weren't going to do that.finally after a year of this problem and a multitude of others, i called chrysler usa and all of the sudden, i had a manager at the service department volunteer to ride with me to see it happen.sure enough it did and they had to replace the entire fuel tank and fuel line......

Engine stalled after refueling. This caused my wife to panic with 4 kids in the van, and it was difficult to restart on a busy road during rush hour.

Has varying idle and poor gas mileage since 5000 miles. Chrysler denies this is a problem, have talked with other owners who have this same issue. Vehicle willl idle from 500 - 750 rpm in drive with a noticible miss.

Upon starting the vehicle it cut off. Once the vehicle gets going it will run a little, then it will cut off again. Consumer stated that upon approaching a stop light or any kind of stop vehicle will cut off.

After refilling the tank at any gas station and restarting the vehicle, it runs rough and stalls.the stall can occur anytime from right after the engine restart or up to 5 minutes after restart.the car has stalled in the gas station on numerous occasions since first noticed in dec 2010and several times on the road in traffic.a web search indicated that there was an apparent issue with the vehicles fuel tank and "purge" valve.i found dozens & dozens of complaints.this seems to fit into a safety recall category.please investigate

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact was driving 25 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact then noticed that the temperature gauge was indicating that the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was advised to the contact that the engine oil had become too hot and was clogging the catalytic converter.the manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure but offered no assistance to the contact. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

After filling my 2004 t&c mini van with gas, i pulled out onto the street and drove less than 2 blocks when turning a corner i lost all power when the engine died suddenly and could not steer very well and was almost hit by oncoming traffic. Had to stop put in park and able to startand drive away.

I have a 2004 awd chrysler pacifica with about 25k miles. I have been able to start it up regularly and consistently since early july 2005.been to dealership 5x to have problem fixed. First time could not duplicate problem so they tightened negative battery cable. 2nd time no codes found, no problem found. 3rd time duplicated problem, but no solution. 4th time car towed to dealership, sent back with a recorder to record car over the weekend. 5th time replaced powertrain control module. Did not fix the problem car back again.

While driving 30 mph vehicle stalld. The consumer was able to restart the vehicle.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined.

Engine stalls each time the fuel tank is filled. This happens only once per fill up and only after leaving the fuel station and entering the adjacent roadway. This is a dangerous condition as there is no warning and no power to steer and pull off the road to re-start. Re-starting can take a while to achieve in traffic. This is a dangerous defect apparently requiring replacement of the entire fuel tank? why is chrysler not required to recall these vehicles as it is a very common and dangerous failure?

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact recently purchased the vehicle and noticed that the rear beam axle developed extreme rust. The contact also stated that the mounts that held the rear leaf springs were almost completely rusted as well. In addition, the vehicle was loosing oil abnormally, but there was no signs of where the oil was leaking. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure and current mileages were 101,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 20 mph or less, the check engine light illuminated followed by hesitation of the engine.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer.a diagnostic test was performed and the dealer determined a spark plug needed to be replaced.afterwards, the problem returned, and the vehicle was taken to another dealer for replacement of all spark plugs, spark plug boots, and the ignition.the problem persisted, and the vehicle was taken for an additional diagnostic test and it was determined there was a faulty egr valve.other people to whom the contact spoke to had similar problems with the chrysler 3.3 litre engine. The contact has to pay $100.00 deductible every time that vehicle is taken to the dealer. The contact feels there should be a recall. Updated on 06/01/2006.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the headlights malfunctioned intermittently. The contact mentioned that only the parking lights functioned whenever the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 172,508.

I own a 2004 chrysler town and country. While driving on the highway at 60 mph i noticed in my rear view mirror that the plastic covering on the rear outside lights was almost all the way off. I stopped the car and saw that it had come unglued and was about to fall off so i took it off to avoid causing an accident or injury.

I called my chrysler dealership and they acted like they never heard of the problem. But that's o k with them because they don't have to drive a car without headlights.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country.while driving between 55-60 mph on a hot day, the adhesive glue melted and caused the rear tail lamp assembly lens to detach from the vehicle.the contact stated that the person in the vehicle behind him could have been injured.the failure mileage was unknown.

Right rear tail light assembly came apart where the front and rear pieces are adhered together.

Found both brake lights staying on after applying brake or using remote door locks on key. Lights will go off eventually, but driving is not safe. Pulled fuse and brake switch- lights still on.

Turn signals will not work, blinker blinks right with left turn signal on, blinker blinks left when right turn signal on or blinker will fail to blink at all.

Dt*:the contact stated without incident, the airbag light illuminates intermittently.also, the turn signals would not cancel.the dealership determined the clock spring needs to be replaced.the turn signal switch was replaced to repair the turn signals.

It seems that after filling the van with fuel the engine wants to hesitate or stall completely. It has always restarted but runs rough for a few seconds after restarting. It always seems to happen after it is refueled.mechanic did a tune up, reprogrammed the computer and still the same problem exists. It's dangerous as there is a significant loss of steering control. It has happened many times.today my wife and daughter were in it getting ready to turn across two lanes of traffic and it stalled as they were making the turn.

Van stalls after fillups. Lose power and control of van when accelerating onto road.very dangerous.this is a common problem with these mini vans.check the internet and you will see. I am not sure what to do.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning after refueling. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test, but was unable to locate a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. The vin information was not available.updated 01/04/12

I have a 2004 chrysler town and countrymini van. For the last 30,000 miles everytime i fill up with gas the engine will either go through some major hesitations or in many cases it will stall within the first few minutes of driving, or if i have to come to a stop shortly after i refueled. The van will restart, (with some effort) and will not stall again until after the next refueling. Spoke to several mechanics concerning this problem and they indicated that the roll-over switch located in the tank may be defective, may have been splashed/flooded with fuel, or the tank was over filled. To repair the problem i was told i needed to replace the fuel tank since the switch itself is not a serviceable item.

2004 chrysler town and country van.after almost every gas fill up, as you pull into traffic, within seconds the vehicle begins to stall, causing it to jerk violently with the engine stopping.very dangerous in traffic as we were almost in several traffic crashes.will stall several times in a row.van will eventually start and will eventually go, usually shaking a few seconds longer.this appears to be a common problem in these vans.was informed it is related to the vapor/liquid separator valve at the top of the fuel tank.there is not a simple fix except for an expensive replacement of the gas tank.since this is such a common problem, i feel this is a dangerous defect and should be replaced by a recall.last incident around january 16, 2911.

My 2004 chrysler town and country limited 3.8l 2wd vehicle stalls and engine fails after filling up gasoline tank. Several occasions occurred while vehicle was moving almost causing me to have an accident.*ln

I filled my gas tank full, and drove my car to a parking lot, later on i went to leave the parking slot and smelled gasoline, and found leakage underneath the vehicle. I took it to an independent mechanic who indicated the metal ring that applies mechanical pressure to the fuel pump / sending unit is severely corroded causing the tangs that hold down the assembly tightly in the tank hole, to fail, causing the pressure on the seal to be inadequate and allow the seal to function. This problem is not causing the check engine lamp to be illuminated, thus is not warning me of this dangerous situation. I purchased another 2004 chrysler town and country tank, and while it is possibly serviceable, the ring on it is also corroded, and is likely to fail again if put into service.i live in the northern rust belt states. Driving in northeast ohio, western pa where corrosion is enhanced by salt applied to prevent snow and ice accidents. I have not yet taken the failed tank off the vehicle. I am wondering if chrysler should repair this for free and recall others that are likely having the same problems in rust prone areas.was told that this exact tank was only used in 2004. I am currently operating by filling the tank with less than 10 gallons at a time from an empty tank who's is an inconvenient to do things and probably still not safe in case of a roll over accident, so i hope to get a response from you fairly soon, thank you for you attention in this matter!

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated after adding fuel to the vehicle it began to stall. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer regarding the stalling and they were unable to diagnose the failure. The failure always occurred when gasoline was added to the fuel tank. The contact stated that the stalling was a major safety issue with his year make a model vehicle which could potentially cause a crash to occur.the failure mileage was 107,000.

We have been having issues with the car. The problem started with not being able o fill the tank it the fuel dispenser would shut off as the gas would backup. Then that went away. The new issue started. After a full fill up of the tank , and driving about a mile or so, the vehicle shuts off. On 5/2/2014 it happened again after full fillup. I filled up the tank. Drove about a mile and was at a turn and the car shut off. I lost control of my steering as it locked up due to engine being off. Luckily i was able to stop the car just before it hit the guard rail at the turn. This problem has been going on for about 6 months and this was the closest coming to an accident. It has shut off on the freeway as well when we took long trips. Created a dangerous situation since we loose steering wheel control. The way to get back is to put car in neutral (while it is moving) and turn the car on and then shift it to drive.

Engine stalls five minutes after filling up the gas tank with fuel.this happens every time after a fill-up.the stall can occur while driving at any speed.the root cause is due to a failure of a valve in the fuel tank which is designed to pass gasoline vapors to the evap canister when fuel is added to the fuel tank.during a complete fill-up of the fuel tank, liquid gasoline is passing thru the defective valve into the evap canister.when the evap canister is purged, liquid fuel is sucked into the engine manifold, causing an extremely rich fuel/air mixture.the rich mixture causes the engine to stall.the engine is difficult to restart because of the extra fuel present in the manifold.

The internal valve in the fuel tank is stuck open allowing liquid fuel to enter and saturate the evap canister with fuel during a fuel fill up.when the evap system purges the canister, liquid fuel is drawn into the intake manifold causing an over rich air/fuel condition that will cause the engine to stall within 5 minutes of the fuel fill up.if the stall occurs while the vehicle is at low speeds and steering around a corner, the power steering assist fails suddenly.this can make the vehicle uncontrollable during a tight low-speed turn with the potential to cause an accident.

I have a 2004 chrysler town and country. It stalls after every fill up.sometimes without warning while driving. What the '!@#$%?

Van stalls after filling gas tank.

The first time i come to a stop after filling the van with fuel the engine will die.it has always restarted but runs rough for a few seconds after restarting.it is related to the first stop after refueling whether it is a block away from the station or several miles before i stop.it's dangerous as there is a significant loss of steering control. It has happened many times.

Vehicle stalls after filling with gas.i understand this is a fuel, vapor, water separator that sits on top of the gas tank.i started having this problem in early 2006.i've put up with it and not left the gas station until the engine was running properly.once i nearly had an accident when entering an interstate entrance ramp and the vehicle stalled.this is a dangerous situation and should be corrected with a recall.sometimes it is hard to remember what needs to be done after gassing up.

My 2004 chrysler town & country minivan stalls everytime after i get gas. I have tried fueling up when my tank is half empty instead of close to empty and nothing seems to make a difference. This is becoming increasingly dangerous as i don't dare drive far after fueling up. One time i was turning the corner and my car died and i could not steer the vehicle and ended up on the wrong side of the road. Thank god no one was on the other side or i would have been in a serious accident and who knows what the extent of the injury would be! i have to make sure i go straight home after getting gas due to the serious of this problem. After i go home and shut the vehicle off and use it the next day it does not stall. I have tried turning the vehicle off after fueling and restarting it and it still stalls. This should not be happening as i only have 60,000 miles on my vehicle and have always maintained it. My dealership is out of business so i can't even address the issue with them. This is extremely upsetting and so aggravating and makes no sense at all. What can i do and who will help me. I am not the only one with this problem , it seems to be widespread. I don't feel i should have to pay for this to be fixed as obviously there is an issue with this model. This has been happening for approximately 6 to 8 months although it could be longer i have lost track it has happened so often. I have really come to dread when i need gas.

After filling up with gas, the vehicle greatly hesitates and sometimes stalls. This has put us in dangerous situations in traffic. A few minutes after the fill up, and through the tank of gas it runs fine. This has happened several times and is not corrected.

2004 chrysler town and country...after fueling the vehicle the engine stalls. This happens usually when the fuel tank was nearing empty than after the tank is filled. When the fuel tank is half full and the vehicle is refueled either nothing happens or there is slight stutter in the vehicle.

While accelerating to merge onto highway, lost engine power and power steering.this has happened several times after refueling.nearly caused an accident.

Mechanical problems involving 2004 chrysler town and country.*mrthe vehicles malfunction indicator lamp illuminated while driving.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and returned the next day.after driving the vehicle 10 miles the light illuminated again.the vehicle was returned to the dealer twice after the initial visit for the same problem.the vehicle also began to malfunction in other ways.the speedometer would indicator the incorrect speed.the engine made noise when the gear shift was moved.the engine vibrated when accelerating. The brakes malfunctioned.the air conditioning failed intermittently.the dealer has not been able to permanently resolve the problems.

2004 chrysler town & country stalls and dies after filling up the gas tank. This happens every time we fill up the van. My wife was driving my 3yr old to preschool today and it died on her several times when pulling out into traffic. This is a very dangerous problem. Evidently it is a common issue, and the repair is replacing the entire fuel tank.

For the past year, after filling up the gas tank, our van would start to shudder and sometimes stall immediately after pulling out of the station. It would restart after a minute, but stall again, especially after a left turn. It happened again two days ago when my wife filled up, and she and my young son were coming home, and turned left at an intersection with a traffic light. The engine started dying and the van shuddered violently and just quit. Fortunately, she was able to coast through the light and pull into a lot on the right. The dash lights were all lit, but the engine was not running. It did restart again, and she brought it home, though the van rode very rough, like the road was bumpy, when it wasn't. I read 30-40 stories from people who had the exact same issue, on various model years. Many of those stories are on this very page, for owners' complaints. But as of now, chrysler is offering no repair for an obvious design or manufacturing fault. Please, chrysler, help us with the repair costs for this wide-spread and very dangerous problem, before people die.

My wife was driving my 2004 chrysler town & country and smelled gas.she pulled over and noticed a small gash in the side of the tank.she obviously ran something over and it pierced the tank.my concern is, how come there is no protective shroud around a plastic gas tank that sits right under my 3 year olds car seat?thankfully she smelled the gas immediately and there was no fire.this may not be the case in the future.i contacted chrysler's customer service hotline and was told there is no recall, to contact the nhtsa.i have also sent an email to chrysler voicing my concerns and am waiting for a reply.please look into this issue to avoid any fatalities.thank you.

Immediately after refueling engine runs rough like a severe misfire condition for several minutes. If a stop is made during this misfire time frame a stall often occurs. Flooring the accelerator often helps "power through" or clear the condition, but not in every occurrence. This occurs every time fuel is added regardless if the tank is filled completely (until pump stops automatically) or partially (pump cut off by vehicle owner). Status of tank at time of fill up also does not have an effect on the occurrence of this problem, it does not matter if the tank is half, one-fourth, or three-fourths full, problem always persists after fueling.this condition is not dependent on weather conditions, current maintenance status, or by which gas station or pump is used at the station. No mil illumination (except with bulb check after stall) and no codes stored to record incident in pcm. No history in pcm to indicate an issue. Suspect this has something to do with evap or fuel vapor system not operating properly after filling gas tank.

The car will sometimes cut off after fueling and snells if gas fumes. The service engine light came on and tge car would not pull in drive later car will not engage in the reverse gear. Car has been sitting for almost 2 months since thus happened. The car not pulling was while driving had to be towed home.

After gas fill up van shuts off no warning steering locks, thank god i never had a accident this is a very serious problem. I noticed alot of other complaints chrysler should recall this problem. I know they know about it so fix it . Would they want to drive this vehicle with a very serious problem who knows maybe there has been alot of accidents from this.how many claims have there been foraccidents. We bought this used and it happens everytime you fill up. Maybe that's why they got rid of it.

Our 2004 has been stalling since before february, 2014, before 91077 miles.2/14 was when i started keeping records of problem.whether i waited or not, with engine running before leaving the station, the van would stall after idling while waiting for traffic to clear, and i pulled out into traffic on a state highway.it restarts right away.i fuel up close to interstate and at times it either stalls or hesitates on entrance ramp.in an article from cbs may 2014 the nhtsa questioned chrysler about 150,000 vans, and 160,000 dodge charger and magnums with this problem. In a letter to nhtsa on 8-9-2013 chrysler stated: "data shows that stall after refuel incidentspresent a low risk of accident or injury.the majority of stall after refuel incidents occur at low speeds or when the vehicle is stopped". That is not true.when i pull into traffic and van stalls or hesitates,i have not applied my brake, the van stops with no warning to vehicle behind. I've seen what damage crashes evenat 35 mph can do.when it happens on entrance ramp to interstate and the van stalls as i am accelerating with vehicles following, there is no warning to vehicles behind me when they are expecting an increase in speed andi come to a roll and am fighting the steering wheel with no power steering to pull to sideto get out of traffic's way till i can shift to neutral and restart engine.we have 77 printed articles in hand, out of countless numbers from the internet, about this problem, with no resolve. We will gladly send you these, but you can see them from the net also .what finally brought this to a head is my wife almost got rear-ended entering the interstate. I have just found out what the cause is after years of chrysler dealers and local garages trying to repair this, with no luck, looking for a fix before a crash happens.

For the last couple of years, every time we fill the gas tank on our 2004 town & country it stalls after driving begins. On multiple occasions it has stalled in front of several lanes of oncoming traffic. The engine totally dies and all power steering is lost.after restarting it runs fine. We have had multiple occasions where collisions have been barely avoided and this is my wife and children in that van.it has been reported on multiple online automotive forums as a common problem.the chrysler mechanic immediately new the problem when i described the symptoms.he said it is caused by a faulty sensor in the fuel tank and they see it very frequently but unfortunately chrysler does not acknowledge the problem.this is a serious safety issue and i hope chrysler decides to do the right thing and it does not take a loss of life to get their attention.i assure you that it is only a matter of time before this becomes reality.

After filling my 2004 t&c mini van with gas, i pulled out onto the street and drove less than 2 blocks when turning a corner i lost all power when the engine died suddenly and could not steer very well and was almost hit by oncoming traffic. Had to stop put in park and able to startand drive away.

After filling fuel tank up, i drove out of station and van stalled and quit running. I started it up again, drove about 100 feet and it stalled again. This has happened 4 times after filling up with gas.very dangerous pulling into traffic out of gas station!

Within a few minutes of filling the fuel tank, the engine will stalls. It can happen at any speed from 0-50 mph. The engine will stall about 80% of the time after fuelling.

After fueling, as i pulled out onto the highway, the car stalled. I was able to coast to the side of the highway and restart the engine. It happened several times last year, always after fueling, and is becoming more frequent since december of 2014. Depending on where it occurs, it is extremely dangerous to stall when entering a steady flow of traffic. I've researched this problem, and it is a fact that it is common in chrysler vehicles, particularly those with mileage over 100,000 thousand miles.......to my knowledge there has been no recall on this problem, and information that i've researched says that chrysler doesn't consider it a problem. They suggest taking the vehicle to a dealership for analysis.

Engine stalled after fill up without any warning. After refill as car left gas station engine rpm went down and engine stalled. It happened in unexpected places like entering busy road or starting from traffic light. Driver gets no warning like check-engine light indicator and engine just stops. Asked dealer to check the problem few times, but minivan was returned back and dealer could not repro the problem. Did not feel safe to drive as i had no idea when to expect engine to stop working, till i found internet forums mentioning this failure and the only way to resolve this issue was to replace fuel tank.

In 2005 a 2004 chrysler t & c platinum series van was purchased. In the spring, we traveled across country on a family vacation putting over 9,000 miles on it and never experienced a problem with it. Shortly after returning home, (ny) i had my first frightening experience while trying to enter a state highway where vehicles were going 70 m.p.h. I had just refueled and merged onto the highway when the car stalled and i rolled to side of the highway.( no power steering, no brakes) i tried to restart it several times before it would "catch." since that first episode occurred, it has been repetitive to this date. 11/11/15 i repeatedly took it to my chrysler dealer (who, by the way has been rated no. 1 in the country) with the same complaint. The fuel line was "flushed" several times and was fruitless in any resolve of the problem.it has occurred when in a traffic circle, traveling in traffic, and just trying to enter the road after stopping for a stop sign. Always only after refueling.today, it is at the dealership for yet again another try at fixing the problem along with a fuel pump replacement. While i understand this investigation has been "closed", i can't understand why you would wait for something catastrophic to happen before taking any action on this complaint by so many people. After not having resolve with the dealer, i called chrysler and it was suggested that i have the serviceman come along with me when i refuel to duplicate the problem or have the service manager call their engineering dept. Chrysler should be made to make this right for all parties affected by this potentially dangerous problem.

After fueling, left the station and drove approximately a half mile when the van's engine stalled and the van lost power. It was quite dangerous since i had no control over the vehicle until it coasted to a stop. An internet search revealed many people experiencing the same problem caused by a faulty valve in the fuel tank.

Car stalls when full gas tank. Doesn't happen every time, but it's always when full. Makes very unsafe condition. I've learned not to make left turns in first 5 minutes after filling, or best not to fill. It's a common problem when looking online, chrysler replaces tank for valve on tank for some people. They refuse to do anything for me, but offer a $1500 fix. It truly is a widespread safety hazzard.

Shortly after filling up with fuel, the vehicle stalls and dies. This has happened several times and we have tried a few different service remedies (fuel additives) with no improvement. We have noticed that this only happens after fill up usually in traffic at less than opportunistic times. Fortunately no accidents yet.

Right after vehicle passed the 100,000 mile mark around august of 2013 the van would start to chug and stall as soon as you filled up the gas tank.first time this happened was attempting to merge into traffic and was almost hit since lost steering and could not control the vehicle.had wife and 3 kids in the van.issue still happening on every fill up.usually once you restart the vehicle it drives normal.researched and found that this stalling issue is very common with the 2004 town & country.apparently the issue stems from the filter on top of the gas tank which chrysler is aware of, but no recall.have tried to not fill completely up which sometimes helps, but stalling can still happen.many similar complaints of this issue with potential accidents so a little surprised this has not been addressed by chrysler.guess it's a numbers game and a certain number of people have to get killed and lawsuits pile up before it becomes economical to get reviewed and addressed.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 55 mph after filling the tank with fuel, the vehicle stalled. The contact coasted to the side of the road and waited approximately three minutes. Afterwards, thevehicle restarted and operated normally. The failure recurred right after filling the vehicle with fuel approximately nine times. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified on the failure. The contact also received a recall notification for a fueling issue with the vehicle. The nhtsa campaign number was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

Immediately after filling the gas tank and restarting engine the engine will stall within the first 100 yards of travel.this is a recurring problem that has happened many times always right after filling the gas tank.this creates a serious safety hazard as you loose control of the steering, engine power right as your are trying to enter traffic.the vehicle has been taken to multiple service shops both chrysler and other and the problem has not been able to be corrected.

Minivan stalled after fueling up. Took the van immediately to a chrysler dealer who could not find any problem.then after a couple weeks, the same problem occurred after fueling and attempting to make a left hand turn. Then the van almost stalled the next time filling the tank up and entering a highway (gas purchased in a different state at a different gas station). Then again after filling up with a premium name brand superior fuel and a gas additive. Very concerned about this problem and not sure we can trust dealer after misdiagnosis the first time.

About 3 min after filling up vehicle stalled after pulling out of station. Power steering failed and could not move out of lane. Took a couple of tries to restart and move to safety. Second time this problem has happened. This will cause an accident!!!

Purchased van used from a toyota dealership in may of 2010. Reported within days to dealership that van had a stutter when at idle. They gave it a tune up but it did not resolve the issue. Warranty purchased with van did not cover the fuel system. Stuttering continued and became worse as the years went by. Van began to die when idling, especially if turning left which put us in danger a number of times. Also, we smelled fuel. We replaced the tank in 2013. However, our mechanic informed us at the time that it had a design flaw and the same issues would occur in a matter of time. Tank was fine for two years. Within a month of the warranty expiring it began to stutter at idle again. It helps to not fill the tank completely. However, it smells of fuel and continues to stutter at idle. We will not spend another $1500 to replace the tank as with the design flaw the issue will just reoccur. Chrysler needs to recall the gas tank and create a design free of faults.

After refueling the van the engine starts easily, i then pull out into traffic and then the engine stalls out in traffic. This only happens after filling the tank full. Usually will restart after the starter cranksa bit. Then the van runs fine until i refill the gas tank again. This has happened on numerous occasions since i purchased the vehicle used three years ago.your form only has room for one occasion to report.

For the last 5 years every time we fill the gas tank on our 2004 town & country with gas is stalls after driving between 50 and 150 yards. On multiple occasions it has stalled in front of several lanes of oncoming traffic after pulling out of gas stations. It has also stalled in front of fast moving oncoming traffic when turning left across oncoming lanes. When it stalls, the motor quits and all power in steering and braking is lost. The van must be put into park in order to restart, which means coming to a complete stop in front of traffic. After restarting it runs fine. We have had approximately 9 occasions where high speed collisions have been very barely avoided, usually with children in the car. It has been reported on automotive online forums and from mechanics as a common problem resulting from a faulty sensor in the chrysler fuel tanks. Unfortunately chrysler does not acknowledge this fact.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that whenever she would refuel, the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the fuel line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 58,000.

After filling the vehicle full with gas and driving away the vehicle will buck, surge or stall at random times in the first 2-5 minutes of use.tricky pulling out of lot or into traffic as car will stall and make vehicle hard to turn.chrysler said the know there is a problem and the were willing to split the repair with me.($700 out of my own pocket). So i just don't fill it all the way. Cant sell or trade the vehicle in because i don't want blood on my hands if someone gets hurt.

Engine stalled after refueling. This caused my wife to panic with 4 kids in the van, and it was difficult to restart on a busy road during rush hour.

After every fuel fill the vehicle runs rough or stalls. Most times for the first mile then clears up. Almost impossible to pull out in traffic after filling the tank.

Every time this vehicle is filled up with gasoline, (87, 89 or higher octane it doesn't matter), it starts to stall & bucks as the engine rpms fluctuate wildly from 600 to 3000 plus. This happens every time that it is filled up to full & has been going on for more than 1 year. Now the check engine light is on. If i only fill it up to 3/4s or even just less than full, the stalling pattern does not occur. I have learned to expect it & either fill it up just shy of full or i drive the van like a standard, (one foot on the brake & the other on the gas). However, i feel that this is only a cheap band-aid for a significant safety issue that warrants a full recall. This issue has been reported multiple times & it would be a shame if it took a serious accident for nhtsa or chrysler to act on the problem. Especially if it happens to be my wife or my two teenage age children that are involved in any accident. Please act now!

Every time i refuel car will hesite and stall. It's specially dangerous when u get fuel next to the freeway because it will stall as you trying to get to freeway speed and somebody can hit you from behind.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. Immediately after refueling, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The car will sometimes cut off after fueling and snells if gas fumes. The service engine light came on and tge car would not pull in drive later car will not engage in the reverse gear. Car has been sitting for almost 2 months since thus happened. The car not pulling was while driving had to be towed home.

I'm driving and some how it seems like my transmission is slipping and it will go back to the actual driving pattern in about 5 to 6 min after it stalls

Purchased 2004 chrysler town & country on jan. 2, 2004 with 6 miles. Transmission light came on first time at 5,940 miles on march 24, 2004. Gears stick and it jumps into gears when i put on brakes or remove my foot from the brakes, make turns, etc.long story, three dealerships and five trips later, still doing the same thing.

Transmission stutter.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country.while driving approximately 50 mph, the shifter would not change into different gears.the vehicle hesitated and drove roughly while in motion.the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the warning indicator remained lit until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing.the technician stated that the failure was related to the transmission.the vehicle has not been repaired.the vehicle was operable if driven at 35 mph or less.the failure and current mileages were 60,000.

My 2004 chrysler town and country will not shift when driving the rpmsgo up to 4000 and the transmission will not shift to next gear i can not drive it on the freeway it will only let you drive about 40 mph because the rpms are to high and i( am afraid of damaging the motor driving with such high rpms transmission is an a604 4speed the same as the chrysler pacifica which has an active recallbecause of the same problems that i am having.

She took the vehicle to the garage twice for the failure and the mechanic replaced the rotors one time and the brake pads twice; however the failure was not corrected. The brake pedal shredded completely off and fell onto the floor of the vehicle, when it was depressed at less than 10 mph. This resulted in the vehiclerear ended amotorist. The manufacture has admitted that this occurred becausethemetal part that is weldedto the brake pedalwas badly welded at the factory.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. While attempting to make a left or right turn, the contact exerted force to turn the steering wheel. The power steering started to make a whining noise. Once the contact was able to check under the hood of the vehicle, he noticed that there was no power steering fluid left in the power steering canister. The contact had to constantly replace the power steering fluid every couple of days. The contact experienced identical failures as indicated in nhtsa campaign number: 04v386000 (power steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 168,000.

About 3 min after filling up vehicle stalled after pulling out of station. Power steering failed and could not move out of lane. Took a couple of tries to restart and move to safety. Second time this problem has happened. This will cause an accident!!!

My wife was driving our 2004 chrysler town and country. She was unable to turn the steering wheel to the left. Luckily she was in a parking lot at low speed and was able to stop. I drove the van around some and the problem would come and go. Took to dealer for repair. $1300 to replace steering rack, pump, etc. I've read that this is a very common problem with this model. Manager at the dealer was in agreement. Told me that the replacement rack should hold up because it was an improvement over the original equipment. Chrysler must realize this is a defect. Hope no one gets killed.

We had to get our steering rack replaced (under warranty) at about 16,000 miles because it was groaning and hard to steer.about 16 months after that at about 42,000 miles the van was in for something else and the dealer told me the steering rack was leaking and needed to be replaced for $1100.they did not even warranty the replacement part itself which did not last.

The front bushings on my 2004 chrysler town & country keep failing.i had them repaired under warranty.at that time, the technician reported that this was a common problem, and that an improved bushing would be used.since, it is again having problems, and the dealer is saying that it needs to be replaced, again.this is a design defect.it seems unreasonable that this part needs continued repair and replacement.is there a danger involved?do i have to replace it?what happens if i don't replace it?there is nothing about this in the owner's manual, or scheduled maintenance.

Power steering pump was replaced, then started making noise.turned out to be a leaking upper power steering hose.there was a recall on this vehicle for this hose but our vin was not included in the recall.we paid to get the hose replaced, and we are wondering if this is a continuing problem with this power steering hose that may affect more vehicles than originally were recalled.i do have the old power steering hose.

I have an '04 t and c which i bought a year and a half ago...great vehicle except for the steering whine...brought it in to the dealership and had it filled and bled (to remove supposed air bubbles) more than once...would seem to be improved then go back to same old thing...the noise would start when i started the car in the morning and would be worse in cold weather...was told to turn the wheel while i warmed up the car in the driveway..this seemed to get the groaning under control...one morning i was in a particularly bad mood and turned the wheel pretty violently and as i backed out i saw a puddle of red steering fluid on the ground...all the fluid just gushed out...had to have it towed to the dealership where they found one or more loose clamps in the steering system hoses...the clamps were replaced and the steering fluid filled and no more problem!!! that was several months ago (winter time) and the problem has not resurfaced...but had to go through an awful lot to get to this point...looks like there are a lot of other owners dealing with this problem as well.

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact states there is a steering problem . All the dealership that he has taken vehicle to have replaced the rack and pinion. One of the dealership replaced the pump, rack, pinion, and the hoses.but problemrecurred.the steering vibrates the entire car whenturning. Chryslertried to repair the carfour times. The first timedealer said it was normal,.second time they said it was not normal, and they replaced the rack and pinion. Chrysler told contact to put a 2005 rack and pinion in the vehicle, but it didnot fit.they had to go back and put a 2004 but that still did not solve the problem. One week later, they replaced the power steering pump, andstill it did not take care of the problem. The zone manager told contact to take the car to another dealership.car was kept for one week and all they did was replace rack and pinion. However, problem recurred. . one of the dealership planned toadvisecontact ofthelemon law.but they have not contacted him yet.dealership told him that if someonewanted to fix vehicleto tell him to do sobecause they had another vehicle. The dealership told him to put a smaller power steering pulley which would increase the speed of the pump which would, in turn, increase the pressure of the pump because thepressure was slow.

Rack and pinion steering on my 2004 chrysler town and country lx needs to be replaced for a cost of $1,000 per the dealer. My vehicle has only 59,000 miles. Leaks power steering fluid, makes noises when turning, and feels like steering will lock up. Numerous similar complaints have been filed.

In september 2018 i notice smoke coming underneath the hood and upon opening the hood my friend said that i had a fire in the engine compartment and put the fire out.after calling my insurance company and them towing it to a garage i was informed that a power steering hose had busted that they said caused the fire.i then later online looked up more information and found out that there was a nhtsa campaign:04v386000 concerning the upper power steering hose that may split that can cause a fluid leak that in the presence of an ignition source can result in an under hood fire like want happen to me.i see there was never a recall on my vehicle but should have been.my van was in my friend's driveway when it happened on a saturday.

Clicking in steering wheel that could be heard and felt. Date of service 9-09-2004 for first incident. Second incident 9-23-2004 repaired per tech bulletin. Third incident 9-29-04 taken in again as steering not repaired still clicking and hard to steer service claimed nothing noticeable to them. Fourth incident 10-08-04 steering wheel fell away from steering column rendering the vehicle inoperable. 10-09-04 vehicle back to dealer by way of tow truck. No injuries or accidents in this complaint but hoping to stop one from actually happening.

I have no clue if this is a safety hazard and what, if anything, could happen . Sway bar was replaced for noise when going over bumps, and rear window motor was defective and replaced also on this car.

Power stearing shutters & growles was told that it was normal. Talked to service manager he called me 2 days later was told that crysler had a problem with 2005 town and country was told thay had a fix . Three day later wes told thay replaced the rack, hoses, added a cooler line and was told it didnt fix problem.to bring it back and thay would put on a power stearing pump when it comes in .

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact experienced the identical failures as mentioned in the recall under nhtsa campaign id number 04v386000 (steering: hydraulic power assist: hose, piping, and connections). The manufacturer was notified and the vin was excluded from the recall defect. The failure mileage was 74,000.

The vehicle has had numerous problems related to quality and safety. In june of 2004 the serpentine belt split and all power assist was lost, chrysler replaced the ac compressor and the belt but did not replace any ps hoses. The van is now leaking power steering fluid that must be replaced almost as often as i get gas. This is unsafe and annoying.the van also has a thumping sound when whenever you go over this slightest bump. It sounds like a strut or spring is loose in the front end. I took it to bcp in smyrna when it first started happening and they couldn't find anything wrong.in 2005 the transmission was shuttering whenever we came to a stop and it downshifted. The service foreman took a ride and said there was nothing wrong. I took it to world transmission in dover and he put a tester on it and determined that the defaults were off and he reset them. I haven't had a transmission shutter since then.

A loud squeaking noise was heard coming from the front.while driving and turning the steering wheel consumer noticed that a liquid was leaking from underneath the vehicleand had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the power steering pump was leaking fluid, and needed to be replaced.

Consumer 2004 chrysler town and country ball sockets were loose, rack and pinion was leaking red and pink fluid.the bushings had worn out, which was due to the rattle the consumer was hearing from the front of the vehicle.

Groaning sound was coming from the vehicle when steering, clunking sound was coming from the vehicle when going over bumps in the road.dealer diagnosed groaning sound as leaking/bad steering rack and said it must be replaced, which was very costly.dealer diagnosed clunking sound as bad sway bar links and bushings, which they replaced.filing complaint because those items shouldn't go bad after only 3 years of normal use.

My 2004 chrysler town and country is having steering problems. The dealer put a new rack and pinion in it july 5, 2007. We bought it on july 6, 2007. It had 42,729 miles on it.by july 30, 2007 two bolts fell out of said unit, and the other bolt was halfway out also. The dealer replaced the missing ones withused bolts from another van, and did an alignment.i picked it up late evening on july 31, 2007. By mid-day august 3, 2007 the bolts were so loose that my mechanic could spin them with his fingers. He tightened them, and it took two full turns with a torque wrench. Now it's august 6, 2007 and my steering is loose again. Nobody can explain why the bolts keep coming loose.

Continued steering rack failure on 2004 town and country.refusal by chrysler to acknowledge the deficiency and failure of this design.may parents bought the same vehicle at the same time and they are on their 3rd steering rack.

Drivers side power sliding door was closed and we were driving down the road.when the door caught fire and started blowing sparks on to my 2 year old strapped in a car seat.by the time i stopped the vehicle, got out,and tried to open the door it would not open.i had to run to the other side and open the other sliding door.i then, had to reach across my other daughter to unbuckle my baby girl.it was taken apart and revealed that the electric door latching system caught fire and froze the door shut.this was revealed to chrysler and they denied they have a problem.

The sliding rear door on driver side won't stay latched/shut.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the jack was used to replace the front driver's side tire when the vehicle caved in abnormally. The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town country. While parked, the contact attempted to open the rear passenger side sliding door but it would not open manually or electronically and the door could not be opened from the interior or exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact stated that he was a mechanic and had inspected the vehicle. The contact found that the electronic door actuator would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000.

Dt:2004 chrysler town and country mini van, the sliding door on the drivers side opens and closes by its itself while the consumer driving on the road. The dealer said they could not find the problem.

Sporadically, my rear hatch will fail to open.it tries to release, but something catches, and it closes.other times it functions properly.this happens whether i use the remote button on the key or the button in the van.this has happened many times, and when it does, i just have to open the hatch manually.it will always close with the key or button.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country.the vehicle's doors, including the rear hatch, are automatically closing.the side doors closed without warning and the contact is unable to stop them when someone is entering the vehicle.on five attempts, the dealer unsuccessfully diagnosed the failure.one month ago, after engaging the keyless release to open the rear hatch, it hesitated, lowered, and reopened to full capacity.on another occasion, the rear hatch would not close.the dealer notified a technician who advised the contact to close the door manually.after several attempts, the passenger had to remove the arm to close the hatch.during a scheduled appointment to replace the tires and repair the hatch, the dealer replaced the arm without repairing it and stated that it was operating normally.on may 14, 2007, the hatch was stuck in the up position and after turning the vehicle on and off, it closed.on may 15, 2007, after engaging the button to open the hatch, it fully extended and closed on its own without warning.the hatch hit her child in the head causing a minor injury.the dealer and the manufacturer stated that they do not issue recalls and advised her to call nhtsa.the contact will schedule another appointment with the dealer to make the necessary repairs. The engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 54,669 and failure mileage was 52,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chrysler town and country. While driving various speeds, the vehicle began to accelerate independently without warning. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to moritz chrysler jeep dodge ram (9101 camp bowie blvd, fort worth, tx 76116) where it was diagnosed that the power module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 263,980.

Abs warning light and brake warning light illuminate.the brake warning light illuminates most all of the time but will go out on occasion then illuminate again and again or stay on .the brakes seem to operate normally and pass all mechanical inspections.the brake warning light will go out upon sharp elevation changes combined with sharp turning manuvers.

1. Cruise control will not release when applying brakes while accelerating.2. No damage as of yet but almost slammed into guard rails that was located at a drop off of about 1700 ft.3. Vehicle was looked at by chrysler and was not repaired. Fault was duplicated with the tech in the car. Chrysler engineering dept told the tech that they know there is a fault with the system but the possibility of the fault happening is so low that they were not to concerned about it. Their suggestion is not to use the cruise control when there is a possibility of vehicle acceleration. (same wire controls downshift and brake control for cruise).

2004 chrysler town & country van rear passenger window fell out while driving 55 mph on highway.

While driving 50 mph therear cargo window shattered without warning. The consumer states this is the second occurrence.*sc

Complaint about blind spots rear view mirrors in general - including both side mirrors and center mirror.i drive a 2004 chrysler town & country van.i am a tall driver - 6.5 feet.the front mirror blinds my forward view.on occasion, i have missed seeing a vehicle on a side street or an animal on the side of the road.also, the rear view mirrors create a blind spot which has been known for some time in the industry.both of these situations create dangerous possibilities and need to be addressed.correcting these should not be a large engineering or cost problem for the industry.i request this complaint be pursued aggressively because the auto companies will not do unless pushed.i do not want to be the cause or the victim of an accident resulting from these conditions.i wish to be kept informed as to the progress of this complaint.thank you.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph on a city street, the passenger side exterior rear view mirror and attachments fractured, and separated from the vehicle without warning.the dealer and manufacturer were not alerted.

When i bought the van i didn't know work was really needed till 06/2018 and i just wanted to no if im qualified for a recall. Thank you
