My 2003 chrysler town & country van was sitting in my driveway and in park i was getting ready to back up and the airbags deployed all of them. I was in the van myself. I have first degree burns on my chin and chest area and bruises on my chest and a burn ion my right arm.

On july 10, 2008 we noticed that our airbag light would come on when we took a corner, but it would go off as we drove straight. It kept doing this for about three weeks and then the air bag light stayed on continually and the horn stopped working. We had it checked out and was tolded it was the air bag clock spring. We talked to the chrysler dealership and was told that this year was not under the recall for the airbag clock spring.

Air bag light illuminated.already recalled on previous chrysler minivans, but not the 2003 town and country.dealer will be happy to remedy the problem (for $90).

The airbag did not inflate while the vehicle ran off the highway and into a ditch and over turned onto the passenger side, then came back upright on it's tires.the passenger was seriously injured, he later died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident.see also odi 10917404.*dsy...updated 12/11/17

The airbag on the passenger side blew up. Onrobin hood rd when car was almost stopped for a traffic light on buena vista rd. When the airbag blew up with my daughter-in-law in that seat.calling chrysler they said there was no recall on it and they would do nothing because of the age of the car.a month earlier ispent $2000 on repairs on this car and now it is useless. Starting the car it smells like it's going to catch on fire.the car was in motion and almost at a complete stop for a traffic light when the airbag exploded which was very scary.when i first called chryslertheyask the location of the car and led me to believe someone from chrysler wouldexamine the the vanand then a week later calling i found out they were denying anything because of the age of the car.i am a senior citizen and this isn't fairas i have kept up repairs on the car and it's obvious that there are no dents or that has not been in any traffic accidents.

After ignition air bag light comes on.will go off intermittently, but for the most part it is on all the time!2003 t & c lx with a 3.8 engine.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town & country mini van.while driving 35 mph the contact lost steering power and control of the vehicle after driving on an icy patch on the highway.the contact tried to turn right into the direction of the skid but the steering wheel locked and it would not move.due to the steering locking the vehicle spun to the rear end and hit an embankment.the vehicle crashed into a ditch and rolled over 3 times and returned to the upright position.the front driver's side tire blew out and the airbags didn't deploy.the seat belts didnot secure the contact and the passenger.the contactand passenger were transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital due to their injuries.there was a previous recall on the vehicle campaign# 04v386000 with steering, hydraulic power assist; hose, & piping connections.the contact stated that after the recall the failure occurred and the recall was honored. The contact called the dealer on several occasions for steering related problems.the failure mileage was 58,914.

While stopped in the driveway, (engine on, foot on brake) while a passenger exited the vehicle, the driver's airbag deployed when the passenger closed the vehicle door.subsequent investigation by chrysler corp factory representatives and lawyers disclosed no accident or other triggering event.chrysler claims no responsibility for the mechanical failure of the part.the vehicle will cost more to repair than it is worth.insurance is of no assistance as this is a mechanical failure/manufacturer's defect and is not a covered loss in their view.

Spontaneous deployment of airbags without warning while driving at 55mph on a clear highway. No braking, turning or sudden movements of the vehicle were involved and i did not hit anything. This occurred sep 23, 2003. Vehicle-2003 chrysler town&country van. No previous accidents with this car and it was serviced regularly. I received minor injuries but did require medical attention. No one else was in the car. It was less than 1 year old. Chrysler immediately sent this to their legal dept, stalled the investigation, refused to give me any explanation or any guarantee it would not occur again if i accepted the vehicle back. They made me a ridiculous offer and have refused to repair the car without a release of liability statement from me. They are threatening to"close the file".

Possible defect 2003 chrysler t & c limited - air bag failure - offset left front crash at approx. 25 mph - all air bags failed to deploy - force was strong enough to break left front axel and upper control arm. Dealer notified of problem.

Air bag light stays on after starting van.

While drivingat 35 mph vehicle was involved in frontal collision. Upon impact, front air bags did not deploy.driversustained minor injuries.

My front air bags deployed while driving the vehicle at 30mph under normal conditions and were not triggered due to impact of the front bumper.additionally, the air bags only partially inflated and would not have provided full protection had there been a frontal impact.i am concerned that the manufacturer has not been able to tell me why this occurred nor have they expressed much interest in understanding why it occurred.fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of this incident.

I came to a stop - 3 other cars in front of me.i was driving a 2003 town & country van. Was hit in the rear bya pickup truck going around 40-45 miles per hour.when he hit my drivers seat went back and broke.i was then thrown forward thru my seat belt and uptowards the windshield.he he me again (car jerked and i went back)seat broke - air bag never deployed. Have severe neck problems - torn disk in lower back - pain all down the right side of my body constantly - never sleep - seen doctors waiting for injections.if that doesn'twork next step is surgery.why did my seat break - if it didn't i probably wouldn't have such medical problems.if my child was sitting behind me, they would have been crushed, paralized, killed.seats should withstand crashes.airbags should also have been deployed.close to $10,000 in rear and front damages.somethingshould have worked.

On monday, may 3, 2010, i was driving my 2003 chrysler town and country mini-van and made a right turn into a parking space as the passenger side airbag abruptly exploded out of my dashboard.no impact prompted the malfunction of the airbag.whatever caused the passenger side bag to explode did not activate the driver's side air bag. The incident was investigated by our insurance company and the authorized dealership for chrysler to confirm that no impact had occurred.the seatbelts were not affected in anyway.according to service center at the dealership the following is what caused the malfunction:detailed repair quote dated 5/13/2010.air bag control module, r&r 01/03 sideperformed diag test -- found dtcs in the system for activepassenger squib 2 circuit open-checked wiring -- no visible wiring problem seen -- also found passenger squib 1 circuit shorted together - - needs wiring harness-module-instrumentpad and airbag pn the passenger side.we have not had an independent expert investigate the above finding to confirm its accuracy.we have been diligent in our request for assistance from the chrysler case representative.the representative from the chrysler investigations department informed us on may 13 that chrysler did not feel the malfunction was due to a manufacturing defect and therefore we would not receive any compensation.we have not been offered compensation from the authorized dealer either.the owner's manual does not have any instructions for the vehicle owner to have the air bag, air bag sensor module, squib wiring, clock spring wiring, or any other related items checked and maintained on a regular basis.we feel the authorized dealer had the opportunity for firsthand knowledge of the condition of these items from our regular maintenance visits, and should have been diligent in assessing them given previous manufacturer recalls for the same issues on other model years.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country.while driving 20 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated.while driving 60 mph, the air bag warning light dimmed.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer.nhtsa campaign id number 07v192000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) for the 2005 chrysler town and country was referenced.the failure mileage was 47,000 and current mileage was 48,430. Air bag sensor light occasionally stays on after starting engine and also lights up randomly during operation of vehicle.occurs at least once a month.

We were hit broadside by a vehicle that ran a stop sign on the passenger side. We are equipped with side airbags that failed to deploy.chrysler investigated and stated the airbags operated correctly and gave us no contact information to discuss this with them.my wife received hip and back injuries.

Sometimes the tailgate after opening will immediately close and there is no way to stop it.then it won't stay open.the left side sliding door doesn't open with remote and the remote lock/unlock doesn't work.i have talked to several people who have the same problem with their vehicle (same year).someone could get crushed by this.

While driving and without warning all doors will open and lock intermittently. Driver took vehicle to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic replaced the computer.

Started vehicle, and headlights and taillights began flashing.headlight switch did not affect this.turning off ignition did not stop problem.only disconnecting battery stopped flashing.this would be an extremely dangerous situation if driver was moving at night.this needs to be a recall, as many similar problems exist and chrysler know about hem, see topix.com.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country.as the contact was placing her child into a restraint system, the passenger side sliding door (equipped with the safety lock mechanism) failed to recognize that a passenger was in between the door.as a result, the door slammed onto the contact's arm.she suffered moderate damage to her upper arm, including a broken blood vessel.secondly, she noticed that the driver's side sliding door would sporadically open, even while the vehicle was in motion.she took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the failure and current mileages were 100,000.

Dash board instrumentation failure and additional engine issues. Fuel gauge pegged.tachometer and other gauges fluctuating, engine falters and stalls, all warning lightsilluminate, radio becomes intermittent. Car alarm activates and will not shut off. Low voltage to dashboard cluster circuit board. Instrument error codese400.1, e100.1, e100.3, e100.4, e100.5dealership can not diagnose or repair issues, which happen while driving, often the car stalls and will not restart in traffic. Numerous internet reports of same problem by many people. (see edmunds.com, under town & country electrical problems) suggested repairs are re-soldering ofcircuit board cold solder joints in cluster board, and replacement of the cluster board.recommend a safety recall of town & country's and voyagers from 2000-present to inspect for this issue.

A few months after purchasing our 2003 town and country we noticed that the speakers would not work whenever it rained.we took the car in several times and reported this problem and they told us that they could not find the problem and to bring the van back to the dealership as soon as we hear the speakers go out.it sounds like a reasonable request but we can't take the van back to them as soon as it rains we need to be available to a back up vehicle and we would still have to bring it back for an appointment.it is a year later and we are still driving with a vehicle that has speakers that go out every single time it rains. We were told that this problem is covered under the electrical warranty which is wonderful but we need this item to be repaired the sound is very distracting and can happen at any moment during a downpour and can startle you as you try to focus on the road.

I read the complaint about 2001-2002 chrysler town&country mimi vans having a problem with dimming headlights. I have the same problem with my 2003 town & country, when i hit the breaks i can visably see that all of the lights dim and flicker. I reported this to the dealer and they stated that this was normal and there was no problem. I do not have the exact date it started but it happens everyday.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the mechanic advised that the wiring harness caught on fire and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

-the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet town and country.while driving at 65 mph the vehicle stalled. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and installed a transmission carrier, but indicated that the fuel injection pump could also be the cause of the failure.this incident occurred for three weeks and continued to occur after being repaired.the failure occurred when the vehiclewas hot or cold.the contact stated that there were no warning indicator lights when the stalling occurred.however, when the vehicle lost power the oil light indicatorwas lit. The contact feltunsafe driving the vehicle due to the frequent stalling incidents, including one that occurred at 1 am.updated 2/22/2007 -now the vehicle exhibits a rough start condition.the steering had become very tight and makes noise.the radio will not play and the vehicle cuts off when it is on.transmission problems.the horn will not sound.rear wipers stopped working.

(1)no event leading to failure(2)upon entering vehicle driver side and sitting down occasionally either right or left slider door will open.does not seem to happen until i am seated, though that may be coincidental as i open door and sit in one motion. Is of no real consequence but i am concerned that situation will only get worse.(3)have not gone to dealership with problem yet. Only drive vehicle on occasion that is 3000 miles in first year.i will be making an appointment but must get day off work.

All lighting goes out. Head lights, instruments, side markers.brake lights. Makes for a very dangers situation at not being able to see when driving at night or bad weather conditions

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. The contact started the ignition and attempted to activate the headlights; however, the headlights would not operate. In addition, the instrument panel and entire electrical system failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis on two separate occasions and they were unable to locate the problem. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front control module, body control module and light switch module were replaced. The repair corrected the electrical problem and the vehicle was able to operate normally. The failure mileage was 89,000.

Car engine shutdown in traffic but would restart. Engine shutdown at highway speeds and jump started without turning key. Plastic wire insulation burning smell noted when returned to driveway. Vehicle delivered to dealer for diagnosis and repair. Tech report verified broken and corroded wire in wiring harness: "upon inspection found fault code p1389 no asd relay output voltage at pcm & p1388 = auto shutdown relay control circuit. Removed d pcm wire harness and found asd output from pcm being lost. Traced bn/wt wire from pcm connector to ipm. Found wire cut and full of corrosion. Cut out bad section of wire and spliced new section in. Reinstalled all components are verified repairs. Vehicle is performing as designed."

Air bag light stays on.

Our 2003 chrysler town and country ex model which has been well maintained with periodic maintenance, was being driven at highway speed when the engine began to shudder and engine light illuminated.a strong odor of gasoline was present, so the van was towed to a local garage.the original diagnosis was a bad fuel injector (at 99,700 miles, not totally abnormal).we had a new injector installed, however on the way home the same issue recurred. The shop then said the computer gave a huge list and was likely defective.we had the car towed to the local chrysler dealer. At the dealer, they agreed, and replaced the computer, however the problem was still present.the electrical technician, then spent 2 days tracing the problem.as it turns out there were about 8 or 9 of the 12 wires in the fuel injector wiring harness were bare and shorting together causing the car to run badly, and polluting the oil with fuel in the process. There is an obvious bend in the wire at the point where the bare wires were in the harness.this harness is hidden from view by a protective sleeve, and there were no cuts in the sleeve.the dealer stated that our van provided them with the information needed to fix 3 other vans they couldn't fix before.the bare wiring ruined our pcm, and in the presence of the extra fuel vapors, was extremely dangerous, basically a bomb waiting for the right spark.because this problem was found in other vehicles, and it is a major safety issue, i believe it warrants investigation, and a possible recall for all vans with this same engine harness. Chrysler was no help in resolving the issue, which in my view was either an installation error or faulty part.although, there was no external property damage, the faulty part cost me $1400.00 in repairs and the loss of use for 2 1/2 weeks. The wiring harness is available at my home, and i will be happy to send it upon request.

First the dashboard lights went down to oi was going 65 mile per hour when the lights on the dashborad said 0 as if i didnot have gas in the car it said i was going 0 miles per hour when in fact i was going 65 with three children and too adult in the car all of a suttin the car starts operating again this went on for severial miles i was afraid for my life as well as the people who was in the car at the time a finally got home and then the car went dead.

Had a tire blow out on front drivers side.the blown tire ripped out the body wiring harness and the integrated power module of the vehicle causing ultimate power failure.the wires were shredded and wrapped around the rim.we strongly believe that this is a design flaw by chrysler allowing the wiring harness of the vehicle to be placed directly over the wheel well.this cause failure of the brake system, and total loss of all power to the vehicle.

2003 chrysler town&country randomly stalls at highway speeds causing loss of control . Brought the van to several mechanics who can not find mechanical problem say it is in electrical harness, now van is not worthy of driving is this the junk mopar is selling to the public for top dollar. Or is it just another american made clunker.

The vehicle would not start. The consumer had to use the batteryfrom another vehicle. *la the consumer started to have problems with a rattle in the door, the brakes squeaked, the air and heating would go up by itself, the back automatic hatch was not working and would come open while the vehicle was in motion, there was a loud grinding when the vehicle was placed in reverse due to a faulty accumulator and the check engine light had come on due to the transmission solenoid pack, there was a roaring sound when the vehicle was in motion, the passenger side seat belt was tangled and the drivers side seat belt retractor was faulty, a component was loose in the drivers seat back, there was noise in the sliding door on the right side, the brakes smelled smokey and were scrubbing, the clip on the cup holder was broken and the battery kept dying and would not hold charge. *sc

I own a 2003 chrysler voyager.i am having electrical problems that cause me not to be able to run my air conditioner along with my radio. I am also having problems with my power windows, windshield wipers, and headlights when my air conditioner is on.

Electrical system failure:all gauges, speedometer, fuel, battery, temp, rpm failed to work, windshield wipers, turn signals, headlight control ability failed to work.heating and air conditioning also failed to work.vehicle would start or remain running, mirrors, radio, steering, pedal electrical continued function.headlights / taillights came on automatically - no ability to turn off, except with ignition switch.repaired by disconnecting battery for five minutes, reset system all functions restored to normal.safety issue:loss of windshield wipers / brake lights / unknown if airbags system affected.

Electrical issue with multiple items like, wipers, door locks, windows, automatic doors, dome lights, dash lights etc... Vehicle has had several issues with intermittent electrical shorts at different times. I have taken it to the dealer on several occasions and spent thousands of dollars but the problem keeps returning and never gets fixed. No my passenger window will not work and the passenger door button on the side post doesn't work.

11/2/11 while parked & running idle, van shuts off and all power is lost. After 15 min the van finally starts. However, after driving 200 feet it loses power again. Road side service jumps the battery, all seems to operate normally. Over the next couple of days the same thing happens many times. 11/8/11 a new battery is installed. (starter & alternator pass tests) new battery van still losses power when running idle parked/in operation(at traffic light). Frequency increases and eventually van loses power/ stalls while driving. At times van is able to start up right away, other times it has to sit for a few min. Some warning or indication that system may fail, van may shutter a bit/rpm gage needle fluctuates wildly. Another new glitch, the door power locks and power door locks alarm. Power door locks stop working 2/12. Fuse is replaced. Problem is fixed temp, locks stop working days later. Fuse is removed and reseated. Power locks work but only for a short period of time. This process is repeated several times. Battery cable is taken off in hopes of resetting power module but upon reconnecting cable, battery has no life. End result, battery is replaced, tests are run again on starter/alternator, they pass. Van runs okay for about a day, locks stop working again. Next door open alarm and interior lights are set off repeatedly. As of today all issues are still present but seem to come and go. Service/repairs since april 2011, brake system flush 2-11, coolant system 2-11, tune up 2-11, oil/filter2/11, reconditioned trans/ rebuilt torque converter 4/11, muffler 5/11, solenoid and evap harness 6/11, oil/filter 7/11, gaskets/lower intake manifold 9/11, radiator 9/11, rear cooling hose 9/11, battery 11/11, thermostat 11/11, intake manifold and valve cover 11/11, crank shaft position sensor 11/11, oil/filter 11/11, fuel filter 2/12, tune up 2/12, oil/filter 2/12, battery 3/12.

Instrument cluster circuit board faulty, causes cluster failure, engine cut-outs andelectrical issues throughout car modules. Possible firedue to faulty solder joints on circuit board, wiring overheating. Multiple parties have been reporting this issue for years, see edmunds.com.

2003 town and country lxi did not start after successfully operating vehicle earlier in the day.jumped vehicle and then drove to establish battery power.vehicle stalled when going into reverse, then again at 40 mph this happened on a total of six different occasions.vehicle had lost charge the next morning and had to be jumped to get to dealership.technician could not duplicate problem, no codes to report upon first inspection. Service attendant took vehicle for a drive and experienced stalling while reversing vehicle and then again when accelerating above 40 mph.eight individual codes have been identified. And the dealership wants more money to reach a diagnosis on this "intermittent" problem.nhtsa has 5 records of this exact problem.vehicle has 48,000 miles to date. When will manufactures stand behind a product and offer assistance to fix an obvious defect??????? what recourse does a consumer have after spending significant $$$ to invest in a top of the line product???? i am amazed how the dealership bends over backwards to get you to sign on the dotted line when purchasing but leaves you hanging when there is a need.this is five star qualities and service???

Dt:the caller said the warning lights ondashboard will come on and the speedometer and the tachometer will stop working.she saidthat sometimes she has to pull off the road and turn the vehicle off to get the lights to go off, and sometimes they will not start. She said occasionally vehicle will lose power when the lights come on and she gets off the road. Dealer replaced the computer module, but itdid not fix the problem. Manufacturer told her they have not seen this problem with any other van. Dealer and manufacturer do not know what is the cause of theproblem is and they can't fix it. The dealer told the callerthat other vans were brought infor this problem, but the caller'svehicle was taken to dealerfor this problem three times.

I was driving and my engine started to knock so i thought that it may need a oil change ut it was time yet i still have another 1467 mile to go before it was due. So i took it in to have it done anyway. They mechanic stated that my rod and bearing went out. Then he also stated if he wasn't correct that in 2003 endand the beginning of 04 they did a recall on the bearings. Which noone was never notified of it. So now my cars just sitting there.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while decelerating at 25 mph. There was no warning light illumination. The vehicle was taken to the contact's personal mechanic for a diagnosis, but no failure was discovered. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and again there was no failure discovered. The failure continued to occur and progressively got worse, so that the vehicle stalled while accelerating. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.

Engine will die at a stop sign. Engine will also die while coasting between 30 to 65 mph. There is no warning signs when this occurs.obviously power steering will be lost instantly. Power brakes will also fade after three applications. After bringing the car to a full stop or placing the gear shift lever to neutral and cranking the engine it will re-start.this is an intermittent problem since 2009. Chrysler dealers are unable to pin point the problem due to lack of engine service codes. Over time they have changed fuel filters, throttle body cleaning, tune ups, crankshaft position sensor replacement, bcm re-learn etc. Internet blogs indicate this is a common problem with chrysler mini vans. Some technicians attribute it to electrical harness shorting. I wonder if there are any safety recalls or service bulletins issued by chrysler. As of this date the problem is ongoing, engine stall is a daily occurrence.

I purchased the van from a private owner 2 hours prior to this happening.he told me it overheats some.i called my chrysler mechanic in mt. Victory, oh and asked him if he could look at him.he told me to bring it down.i was traveling about 35mph on st rt 31 s and it started overheating.i pulled over and turned it off.smoke was coming from under the hood.i was calling for a tow and i heard the sound of fire crackling and smoke was coming through the vents.i immediately got out of the van and told the person i was talking to i needed to call 911 because it sounded like the van was on fire.flames and heavy smoke started shooting out from under the driver's side of the hood.i had called 911.the hardin county sheriff's dept, ohio state highway patrol, kenton fire department, and bkp ambulance service arrived.i smelled so bad of smoke and was shaken up but thank god i got out of it before it became engulfed in flames!!!it gor so hot that anything plastic and rubber under the hood melted.the driver's side mirror even melted!!

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that accelerating from a traffic stop the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact mentioned that he was able to restart the vehicle after unplugging the battery for several hours. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 154,511.

Vehicle would hesitate when accelerating over 25 mph, causing a distraction to the consumer.had taken vehicle to dealership mechanic, but the problem has not been resolved.

(see edmunds.com, under town & country electrical problems) suggested repairs are re-soldering ofcircuit board cold solder joints in cluster board, and replacement of the cluster board.recommend a safety recall of town & country's and voyagers from 2000-present to inspect for this issue.

The weather has turned cold again and the moaning noise from the p.s. Pump is back. I had a brand-new p.s. Pump, water pump, serpentine belt, and tensionerinstalled a week ago. I don't know what else to do. Some people have had belts, hoses, pumps, and even steering racks replaced and the moaning noise will not go away.i'm not spending any more money on this vehicle. I suppose i can just ignore the noise along with all the other ones coming from my vehicle. I think its time for another mini-van.

We are the original owner of a 2003 chrysler t & c. In august, 2009, my wife began experiencing problems with the window motor suddenly becoming inoperable for a short period of time, then suddenly working again. One day, as i was driving the van, the check engine light came on. I immediately parked the vehicle. After a few days, the car restarted and the check engine light went off. However, on august 20, the check engine light came on while i was leaving a conference. After less thanmile, then van began shuddering, the lights began blinking then the vehicle died. I was traveling at approximately 40 mph when this occurred. The van would not restart, in fact the only thing i received was a click. I had the car towed home and again left alone. This time, the when i turned the key, the response was just a click. Also, there was an electrical drain that caused me to replace two batteries. In order to keep this from recurring, i disconnected the negative post. After checking and replacing the starter as well, i had it towed to a facility who confirmed the problem was a bad pcm.the cost to remedy this was $750.

At 60,000 miles, engine is losing coolant.there are no visible signs of leaks.temperature gauge read hot.pulled over, let engine cool down, and noticed there was no coolant.vehicle engine oil was recently changed by walmart.and to my surprise, walmart's best oil change does not require checking coolant.engine oil was clean and full.

The air conditioning on our 2003 town and country does not shut off.i turn off the radio and my heat or air conditioning before exiting my vehicle.as of today, my air conditioning does not shut off on our van unless i turn the vehicle off.i tried to shut it off while parked and all it did was switch to cooling off our feet in the off position.the air is blowing so hard and cool that we all had goosebumps on before we even reached our destination.we have not been able to shut off the rear controls for a while so we just opted not to use it, we should have seen this one coming.so not only do i have my rear air conditioning running, now we have the entire system running all the time, even while it is turned off. All i can say is wow, did we buy a lemon or is this just a poorly made car.electrical problems, doors don't close, radio doesn't work in the rain, and the gas gauge doesn't even work.

Noise started coming from engine compartment.water indicator went to hot.pulled over and car was steaming.after allowing car to cool, checked anti-freeze which was low.refilled and started car.anti-freeze was pouring out of coolant tubing at bottom and towards rear of engine.shut car off.inspected tubing.tubing was rusted out.called dealer and had car towed to dealer. The dealer replaced tubing under warranty ( 40 miles remaining).dealer also mentioned that 10 cars were brought in for the same problem this week.

Purchased 2003 chrysler town and country in june of 2004 and have numerous problems. A/c has went out twice, brakes have been replaced twice, now van has lost power and they are replacing valve springs and other internal engine parts. I have had now recall notices or notifications from dealer.

Vehicle wouldn't start, battery drawn down to 8.6 volts with ignition engaged. Towed to dealer, dealer found engine seized. Dealer found bearing spinning on #2 cylinder when the engine finally did turn over. Metal shards throughout engine warranted a new engine. Dealer replaced since it occurred at 14000 miles.

Drove for two hours in rain, parked car.seven hours later, started car and it stalled...did that twice.started third time but i smelled a burning smell coming from engine compartment, shut motor off.turns out a/c compressor froze up, snapping the serpentine belt.car towed, dealership fixed for no charge..."special" warranty is what i was told.

On 6/14/2006, we were driving our 2003 chrysler town & country on a 4 lane highway when we experienced an engine knock and loss of power. Luckily, we were able to safely get the vehicle off the roadway.upon checking the oil, it was found to be "full" and transparent on the dipstick.subsequently, the vehicle was towed to a chrysler 5 star dealer where diagnostics were performed.the vehicle has approximately 50,000 miles on the original engine and is covered by the manufacturers 7 year, 70000 mile power train warranty.the dealership determined that the engine failed "due to lack of maintenance", with a buildup of sludge in the engine.we were bewildered by this pronouncement, as we had always done all scheduled preventative maintenance on this vehicle.we asked that the oil pan not be dumped and that a sample of oil be tested, as the last oil change was within the last 250 miles and they were claiming that the "oil was filthy".we were told that we would need to provide the dealer with 5 documented oil changes, and we told them that wouldn't be a problem.we were able to fax to them within 28 hours, the 5 documented oil changes they requested, and also let them know that more would be forthcoming.before the additional documentation was provided to the dealer, our warranty claim was denied on 6/16/2006.we again explained that more documentation of further oil changes was forthcoming and we were very concerned that this claim was being denied. Additional documentation was faxed to the dealer verifying oil changes roughly every 3000 miles.we have proof of 17 documented oil changes in 50,000 miles - more than required.again, our warranty claim has been denied.chrysler has a history of engines failing at roughly the same mileage, blaming the consumer for "lack of maintenance" and then denying the warranty claims despite proof of maintenance.something catastrophic happened to this engine, and it has nothing to do with maintenance.

2003 town & country with less than 15000 miles has lost it's compression, or peppy passing. Went to dealer and test drove similar car with over 30,000 miles and test car increases speed dramatically like ours use to. Going up bridges on highway car loses speed and needs full accleration to maintain 50-60 mph. Car at purchase with large engine handled competely different. Computer tests at dealership does not show problem, so they cannot fix problem.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds, the engine stalled without warning.the engine would not restart.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.the dealer determined the computer was dirty.after the computer was cleaned, the engine continued to stall.the vehicle was taken to the dealer to await further inspection.

Engine noicefrom rocker arm excessive . Dealer would not fix . Still under new car under warranty.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. While driving 40 mph the vehicle stalled without warning. He was able to coast to the side of the road and the vehicle was towed to the closest dealer. The dealer found the cam shaft sensor was defective and was replaced accordingly. The failure and current mileages were under 80,340.

While at an intersection, i had a power loss on my chrysler town and country. After the loss of power i was unable to do anything. I had to shut the van off wait 10 minutes and then start it up again. After restarting it was not shifting correctly and the check ingine light then came on. I took it back to the dealership where we had bought it 3 months ago. They ran a test on the van which it failed. It failed the transmission test. Knowing that they will not fix it. While i was making the hour drive to the dealership the light went off, they said without the light on there is nothing they can do. I have a 3 year old daughter and will be having my second child next month. What are they willing to do if we all get killed by this. They know it is unsafe yet they will do nothing!!

Problems with a/c and heating system, power steering and transmission on 2003 chrysler town and country minivan. The consumer stated there was a recall regarding the power steering system which was not corrected when the consumer first took the vehicle to the dealer. After the vehicle was returned to the dealership for a third time for the power steering, the consumer was told by the dealer they were unable to make the repairs and that chrysler technical group had been contacted to aid in diagnosing the problem.the consumer was told a special part for the a/c was needed and it would take a couple of days.when the consumer went to pick up t he vehicle on the fourth occasion, the a/c power steering and transmission still was not repaired.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that there was an abnormally offensive bad odor from the interior carpet of the vehicle.the dealer diagnosed that the a/c condensor had a leak from the drip pipe at the firewall. The leak was flowing into the vent opening and causing mold to grow on the interior carpet.the manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied any assistance with repairs. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 100,000. The vin was unavailable.

Air conditioner (a/c) compressor failed the compressor was replaced . Then it was found that the compressor was never shutting off. Dealer called chrysler star. Dealer was told that the atc unit needed to be replaced. Dealer replaced the atc unit but the cycling problem still is happening. Dealer then called star agian and now was told that this was normal. I have found that when you start the van up with the atc unit on no a/c requested at this point and the compressor will start to cycle on and off this will never stop. This also happens when you go to defrost mode back to vent ( no a/c requested) the compressor will start cycling on and off and never stop. I have found that you can stop the cycling by turning on the a/c (snowflake button) on then off the compressor will now be off and not come back on till the a/c unit is turned to auto mode of manual turning on thr a/c.*la

I was driving home at work at 10pm and my headlights went out then back on then out again and back on again. This was a scary situation to me.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country.while driving approximately 40 mph, the headlights began to blink on and off very rapidly.the failure lasted until she arrived at her residence three miles later.the contact called her mechanic, but the cause of the headlight failure could not be determined.the vehicle is currently parked at her home.she believes that others may also be experiencing the same failure.the current and failure mileages were 103,000.

As i was driving (at night) my headlights went completely off for approximately 3seconds--i slowed down because i couldn't see a thing.it was pretty scary, but i handled it.

--headlights have gone out over 12 times in the last 2 weeks. You have to turn the switch on and off for lights to come back on, and sometimes a second failure happens a moment later. Today i noticed the parking lights were one, even with the switch in the off position. Turning the switch on and off corrected that incident for now. --also have experienced transmission failing to engage after coming to a stop. Happened a few times in the last month. It will engage after moving it to park, then back to drive.

Driver's tail lens fell off while driving at 65 mph on the way to lubbock tx. It is not hit or damaged in any shape or form. The glue simply failed holding lens onto tail light assembly. This needs to be screwed or recalled for improper installation. Dealer wants approximately $320. For part and does not include installation. I googled this issue and there are several complaints on the web.this is a hazard while driving at night as it blinds drivers behind me and most likely could get a ticket from police departments.

Headlights turned off while driving. Very dangerous. Has happened multiple times. Very scary driving on interstate at night in rain in traffic. Had to pull over. Flickering the switch on and off got the headlights back on. Only to go out again and again... And again. I was concerned the person in front of me thought i kept turning my headlights off for some reason but i could not control them. Now sometimes when i turn my car off, the bells ring because it thinks the lights are on so i must toggle the switch to stop that. Very frustrating and very dangerous.

Head lights turn off while driving.i just guessed on the dates as it happens so frequently.they do not turn back on when i turn the switch, it takes several tries to get them back on.and many times i need to pull over and turn the car off and restart for the head lights to turn back on.this is extremely dangerous while driving 75 mph on the interstate in the blackness of night!

Rear tail lamp lens separate from the housing assembly, with the possibility of not having any tail lights.

Headlights intermittently dim and then eventually they have started to turn off while driving. Once when turn signals had been on and now just when turn the lights on. Had it into the dealer and they upgraded the software for the headlights and that apparently still hasn't stopped the problem. It lasts from a few seconds to almost a minute while driving.

2003 chrysler town and country has headlights that will go off intermittently, which the dealer cannot resolve.no crashes yet, but this is obviously a dangerous situation.

Headlights would go out and stay out for 30-90 seconds at a time.happened 3 or 4 times on the way home.leading up to this, the lights had been flickering or dimming once or twice a week.we contacted chrysler, and several dealers, and all of them claim no knowledge of this problem.

While driving headlilghtsfailed. Consumer stated that this happened a total of six times. Tookvehicle to dealer to find out what was the cause of theproblem . Was told they did not know.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that when driving at night, the headlight beams were very dim and the road visibility was very poor. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

We purchased a new vehicle assuming that the lights would be at least the same as previous vehicles.upon taking the van home and driving it at night.we noted that the dash and door switch lights weren't functioning.we went back to the dealership and looked at another van (assuming that it was a 2003) on which the lights did work.we took the van in to the service personnel to have the lights repaired, but they told us that these lights were no longer functional on the 2003vans.we have notified the dealership owner and chrysler's telephone complaint line about this.the answer to our complaint has been that chrysler "decommissioned" the light function for cost savings.i consider this a convenience and safety concern, since you must fumble around in the dark to find the switches or to turn on the vehicle lights.dt

Dt: consumer was driving on the freeway while it was raining.when consumerchanged lanes and used turn signal ondriver's sidethe windshield wipers stopped. Consumer believed that she may havelet the turn signal switch go back to the middle position andwindshield wipers began to work again. Consumer had a recall on power steeringfixed at the dealer, but did not fixthe windshield wiper problem. Windshield wipersfailed twice sincerecallrepairswere done. Consumer saidthishappened all three times that she was on the freeway.doesn't seem to happen whennotusing the turn signal.

2003 chrysler town and country van. When refueling gas will shoot back out after refueling has began. Numerous times i have had gas splashback onto my person. The tank is extremely slow to fill as no matter what position the gas nozle is inserted in the filler tube the automatic shut off is activated on the nozzle.

I have a 2003 chrysler town and country limited with approximately 44,000 miles.on three occasions, when pressing the accelerator to the floor to pull out or pass, the engine accelerated more than anticipated and for a longer time.when the accelerator was released, the engine remained at high speed for an instant longer than normal then would not slow below a fast idle until the car was shut down and restarted.when taken to the dealer, the dealer, scully motors of windsor, ct, was able to replicate the problem, possibly even worse, and investigated.they have reported to me that the plate inside the throttle body was disintegrating and causing the throttle to hang open and told me the car was unsafe to drive.they told me there was no service bulletin on the problem, and when i called chrysler customer service they also told me they had no other record of a similar problem.however, chrysler is out of stock on replacement throttle bodies and reportedly many sites within chrysler have the part on back order.this would indicate to a layman that the problem might be more widespread.since the service personnel considered it such a threat to my safety that i should not drive the car, and since this does not seem to be a routine type of breakdown on a relatively new car, i believe it should be considered for review as a safety defect.i have requested the dealer to save the replaced parts for me.

The van was modified by braun corporation.an after market fuel tank with an unstable and unsafe fuel pump mount (they modified the tank which is not a chrysler tank and put a mounting o-ring in place of the standard locking mechanism) is the issue.it fails about every 4 years and causes a check engine light and fuel can spill or leak out of the top of the tank when you fill the tank.when the seal fails, gas fumes enter the cabin.contact for detailed information and heavy frequency of repeated repairs on this and many other vehicles just like this one.gibson auto electric 211 se 11th aveportland, or 97214(503) 231-4100.

We have owned our 2003 town and country since 2008.the car had seemed to have pretty good gas mileage until the past few months.i have noticed that i have had to purchase gas every 3 days or so.i put a full tank of gas in the van on friday may 21st.i picked up both my son and daughter to and from school and to and from church.we made a pit stop at a store and dropped off a friend at home (this person lives around the corner from my son's school).on monday, i found myself back at the gas station because my gas light had come on and had said i was out of gas.this has been occurring over and over again over the past month or so.i have a friend who also has noted that i have been purchasing gas more and more over the past few weeks and recommends that we take this in and make sure that their isn't something happening with this van.filling a van isn't cheap and this van has emptied our gas budget in less than a week.i don't see myself purchasing another town and country for our next van purchase.we will need to do much better on our homework with our next purchase.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 45 mph there was a loud noise that came from the rear of the vehicle.the smell of fuel entered the vehicle.the vehicle was driven to a local independent repair shop.the mechanic determined the hose had come off of the fuel tank.the dealership was alerted and determined the fuel lines and clamps needed to be replaced.the manufacturer has been alerted.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and smoke was seen from under the hood. After lifting the hood, the contact discovered flames coming from the fuel injection wiring harness. The contact indicated that the fuel injection wiring harness became melted during the incident. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

I own a 2003 chrysler town & country van.during a recent trip we ran over a piece of tire lying on the highway.the impact from the small piece of tire caused a rupture in the fiberglas gas tank, along an exposed seam.the dealer in durango co said they were told that there were five other incidents of damage to the same gas tank that week, necessitating a lengthy wait while a tank was shipped from detroit.we were told by the dealer that when the dealer called chrysler for information about the tank, they were told to "impound" the car because it was unsafe to drive.when posing this to chrysler, they deny that there was ever any impounding and that we were merely "advised" not to drive it.it was much more severe than that.it was, in fact, impounded and would not be released to us.we can produce witnesses to this statement who were in the dealership at the time, even though the dealership now says that is not true.clearly, they don't want to interrupt a relationship with chrysler.while we certainly would have little interest in driving an unsafe vehicle beyond getting it to some place where repairs might be more reasonably priced ($738 for a gas tank seems excessive), i am more concerned that the tank can receive such significant damage.it seems that any of several options would have prevented this problem.1)if the tank was made of something other than fiberglas, it might better withstand an impact.2)if the company is going to use fiberglas, a protective shield in front of the exposed area would prevent this type of damage.3) a seam should not be exposed to the road surface.the split in the tank was at a seam on the underside of the tank.if such rupture can be prevented, it should be!*la

Fuel mileage in town 12.3 on the road 15.3 this is terriblegas mileageis what it supposed to be as of point of view 16/26 the sticker in the beginning at 400 miles they told me wait till 10000 miles b4 they can do anything but now they say they never said it, also chrysler will not talk to me about this problem i bought the top of line for ahefty price and they did 3 mileage tests and they all came back with the same mileage.do you realize a motor home gets better then my car . But the new owners of xchrysler also do not want to here this because they have my money and will not help the sales manager said sue us i need this van for my wifes wheel chair since she does not walk and i had dodge vans for over 30 years but i guess this will be the last one.

2003 chrysler town & country.i purchased the vehicle in april 2008.odometer = 38,360 miles.the fuel pump makes an extremely loud high frequency pitched noise when the daytime temperature is 80 degrees f or higher.i reported issue to chrysler last week.chrysler responded that it is not a recall item.i am concerned the fuel pump could fail at any time.

While traveling on the highway, i ran over road debris when changing lanes (saw it too late to swerve).the left front wheel kicked up the road debris and i felt it hit the undercarriage.a couple of days later, when adding fuel to the tank, we discovered that the fuel filler neck had been sheared off!the fuel we were pumping went straight to the ground.

Received recall notice for upper power steering hose. Windshield washers inoperative at times.unable to duplicate problem.nar*jls the parts weren't available for the recall.there was a problem with the side window switch and the interior light.*sc

Dt: the contact stated there wasnhtsarecall campaign 05v134000 concerning the latches, locks, and linkages.however, the recall did not correct the problem. The vehicle had the same problemsagain. The dealer has been contacted, but refused to offer another free remedy.also , the contact had an ongoing problem with the automatic transmission. Itshifted in and out of gear while driving. The dealership replaced the transaxle assembly and the torque converter under warranty, but this did not solvethe problem. The manufacturer made arrangements for an inspector to see the vehicle in an attempt to determine the source of the transmission problem.

We purchased our 2003 town and country in 2008 within a few months of our purchase we noticed that the hatchback no longer opened using the key or sometimes the door does not open or close and we have to open the hatchback manually or try to close the door manually and at times the door will not close and we have to wait until it is ready to shut which if you are in a rush in the morning 5-10 minutes is a while to wait especially when you are trying to get kids off to school and yourself off to work.

Passenger side electrically operated door does not latch after closing. Door does not always display to driver that it is not latched.

Unable to close door latch prevented door from closing and unable to be safley secure door. Passingers exposed since door would not close

I was stopped at a stop sign. I proceeded into an intersection and the pass front corner of my van was impacted. The force of the crash caused me, as driver, to come out of my seatbelt and i was thrown out the door which opened during the crash despite being locked. I was thrown to the pavement and injured.

When using the automatic door closure option with both the driver and passenger sliding doors, the door will only close to within 5 inches and then bounce back open. I have taken it in for warranty work 3 times and they are unable to repair it, they have replaced the latches and replaced the track thing it runs on.

Our driver's side rear door comes ajar when we are traveling at high speeds even though the door is locked.

While pressing the remote to open the door, the door and latches failed to work on its own..the consumer had the vehicle inspected and the mechanic informed the consumer that the problem could not be duplicated.please fill in additional information.*jhb

The rear driver door will only open from the outside. This problem happened intermittently.

At highway speedsdriver's side sliding door will open by itself. Also, the rear hatch will do likewise.once the doors open, they will not close manually or automatically for at least 45 minutes.

Pushed up and then liftgate released without notice.personal injury or death could have resulted.temperature outside was approx 35 to 40 degrees.attempted several time over past few days with problem persisting.dealer states that it is not under warranty and no recall exists.

Rear liftgate hatch opens on its own.there is no indication that liftgate opened when engine is on or off. Dealer has been contacted.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. While driving unknown speeds, the contact heard an abnormal rumbling noise while shifting gears. Prior to the failure, an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Intermittent loss of power on acceleration from stop and on shift from 1st to 2nd gear.

We have a 2003 chrysler town and country lxi. For over a year now, we have had problems with the transmission slipping and jerking. We have taken the van in on numerous occasions but have not had the problem fixed. We supposedly have two files open with chrysler and have been promised for a month now to be contacted by a chrysler representative. The dealer has no idea of what is wrong or even how to solve the problem. My concern is that i will be trying to merge into traffic or start a turn or something and the transmission not work properly causing an accident.

I purchased my van in august of 2003.i noticed the brakes were squeaking and took it to the dealer to have them checked out.i was told that my front brackes had 15-20% of the pad left and that they should be replaced and the rotars turned .tthe vehicle has only 22,000 miles on it. It seems to me that brakes should last longer than 22,000 miles.i was told i must do allot of "city driving" i am now experiencing "rough, delayed shiftingat about 15 mph. Hesitation, clunk. The transmission has "slipped" out of gear while drivingand also rough downshifting.i certainly expected a better quality manufactured vehiicle than what i have experienced so far.i doubt i will ever purchase another vehicle from chrysler!!.

While driving consumerheard a loud winding noise coming for the transmission.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The day after the vehicle was purchased the transmission emitted a whinning noise.when the consumer check the transmission fluid noticed that it was about one quart low. The dealer refused to provide and assistance.

Dt: consumer purchased a new vehicle in 2003 and since then there have been numerous problems.over the weekend, while driving 45 mph the consumer applied brake pressure because she was approaching a red light and discovered there were no brakes.the brakes weremushy/loose andwent to the floor. They were not responding to pressure.the consumer pumped brakesin up and down motion and they activated, but were weak in their response.the consumer was able to stop just barely missing another vehicle.consumer drove vehicle about a mile to the dealership, who stated that master cylinder failed and would have to be replaced.a new master cylinder was ordered. However, the partshave not yet arrived.consumer wished to file a complaint at this time even though she did not know the outcome of this repairs.this was the first time this happened with the brakes.the consumer experienced transmission problems since the vehicle was purchased and the alternator was replaced.

Both the rack and pinion steering and transmission went out at 58,000 miles on my 2003 town & country made by chrysler.this is unacceptable for a van with so few miles on it.

*sc

Problems with a/c and heating system, power steering and transmission on 2003 chrysler town and country minivan. The consumer stated there was a recall regarding the power steering system which was not corrected when the consumer first took the vehicle to the dealer.

I own a 2003 chrysler town & country that i purchased new in oct. Of 2003 from mortiz in fort worth, texas.since purchasing this van it has been used for mostly long distance trips and has been serviced regularly.at the end of january 2007 my transmission solenoid pack started leaking.on feb. 15, 2007 i bought a new solenoid pack from madison square chrysler in huntsville, alabama.i installed this item myself being that all that was involved was unbolting the old one and installing the new one.on feb. 20, 2007 with mileage of 87918 i had the transmission fluid flushed by the above mentioned dealer as well as oil change and maintenance checks.on feb. 28, 2007 the check engine light came on.i returned to the dealer on march 1, 2007 with mileage of 87990 for another round of service costing $1033.42.on april 21, 2007 with mileage of 89955 i had complete transmission failure with my two children in the van.i have not taken any action at this time to get this resolved because i cannot afford to pay for a new or rebuilt transmission.

I bought a 2003 town and country and have only had this van for 4 yrs and i am having to replace the transmission b/c according to the mechanic the magnet that was suppose to be put in the transmission pan was not there to pull the metals out of transmission therefore it messed up my transmission how was i suppose to know that.

While driving about 65 mph vehicle down shifted.it was later determined that the transmission control module failed.*nlm

When driving over 25 mph transmission made a loud noise.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Events leading up to failureson 2.28.07, i purchased a 2003 chrysler town & country lxi with 56,000 miles from arlington acura in palatine, il after a carchex inspection & test drive. Upon driving home to minnesota that day on interstate expressways, i encountered two major mechanical problems:failure, consequences & repairs1.shuddering & leaking rack & pinion - dealer advised these are common failures for this model and recommended replacement for $800 asap because a dry cylinder will lock the steering column.chrysler will not replace under it's 7/70 powertrain warranty, so i will have to pay this when i get the money.2. Jerking transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd gear - during four visits, dealer attempted to find cause, spending $3,000 in warranty repairs.they said chrysler's star tech service told them this was "a known problem for which there is no current fix."a subsequent e-mail from me (the owner) to chrysler resulted in a boilerplate letter saying the problem was a dealer issue.my wife has cancer and a heart condition and cannot bear the strain of a malfunctioning transmission on her "new" car.

Car was in drive but went into reverse on numerous occasions. Engine light came on took the car in transmission, engine , and other parts was found out to be ok or was replaced or fixed. Took carback out and it is still gearshifting from drive to neutral to reverse when the console states the car is in drive.

2003 (30,741 miles) chrysler town & country lost power without warning while traveling 30 mph.

I purchased a new 2003 chrysler town and country on 7/14/2003.the intent was to have a very reliable vehicle prior to going on two vacations.i left for the first vacation on cape cod in massachusetts on 7/26/2003 after owning the vehicle for 12 days.on july 29, 2003 the vehicle started but any attempt to idle up the vehicle would cause it to stall.(i owned the vehicle for 15 days!) it was towed to central cape dodge in hyannis where it was diagnosed as having a faulty pcm.(power control module)the vehicle remains at the cape all but ruining one vacation, and the part apparently is on national backorder and remains out of service probably ruining my second vacation. On july 29 *ph

The bracket the holds the carrying bearing on the drive shaft broke.this caused the drive shaft to hang down and almost touch the ground.as for the correction, i am still looking for a replacement part.there was a quick fix to the drive shaft bracket, but now there is a very loud rattle in the drive shaft.

I was stopped at a stop sign. I proceeded into an intersection and the pass front corner of my van was impacted. The force of the crash caused me, as driver, to come out of my seatbelt and i was thrown out the door which opened during the crash despite being locked. I was thrown to the pavement and injured.

Right rear seat belt in third-row seat of town and chrysler mini-van doesn't retract.same belt was replaced in june of 2005 and has failed again.

Right, rear seat belt in 7 passenger mini-van will not retract, therefore puts an occupant in the third row seat in danger.

On 2 different occassions (in the twomonths we have owned this van) my 10 year old daughters seatbelt has come unfastened.i had no idea there was a problem with the chrysler town and country seatbelts in the back passenger section until i saw a report on tv about it. I would not have purchased this vehicle if i had known about this problem.note: your section that asks me to include the model of van will not let me put town and country -- it just lets me put "sprinter 2500" whatever that is... (changed to town and country via consumer's voq description on 12/9/04. Cat)

Vern,i am having some trouble with communicating with the chrysler corporation in regards to my new vehicle. The passengers front seat sits very high and may be hazardous when entering and leaving the vehicle as well as in an automobile accident. The dealer states that this is "normal" although another dealer states it appears that there has been a mixing of the seat mounts to the floor of the van for the different seats (power six way seats, power four way seats, and manual). If there is an accident a person could suffer severe head trauma because their head would strike the top of the door frame/ roof of the van. I would like to know the design of the vehicle in regards to an accident and the passengers door area. Could you please help me in regards to this. My concern is that there may be a problem with my van, or a nationwide problem with 2003 town and country vans with power seats and safety issues.sincerely, samualla l. Vehicle was moving in reverse at a speed of approximately 15 mph when it hit a pole, causing driver's seat to collapse. Also, the handle which was used to put seat back into the correct position broke. Seat will not go back into an upright position.

My 2003 chrysler town and county was rear-ended by a semi with trailer.the driver's seatback broke and fell on the middle seat occupant.after crash was over, i had to unbuckle and grab seat and pull as hard as i could to get it off my nephew.

The front brake system gets hot. I loose steering, front tire wobbles and brake starts smoking the hose kinks also.

August 25, 2014 my father was driving his 02 chrysler town and country 2wd 3.3l flex. When the brake pedal started going lower and lower tell the was no brake pedal just went to the floor he made it home thank god! and he told me i started looking for leaks no leaks any were l. I changed the master cylinder, by the next day air was back in the system so iv had calipers suck air with out leaking before so i changed them still the same problem, so i looked that problem up online found tons of people with the same problem, most of the discussions ended with the people replacing the hydraulic control unit fixes the problem. Well i look online for a control unit auto stores do not have dealer ships do not have this part mopar can not find because it don't exist no more. So now im stuck with an unsafe vehicle to drive and no replacement parts or recalls this should be a recall these vehicles are unsafe to drive on the roads and there is no replacement parts. Im sure there already has been accidents from this problem and the longer they wait to recall it the more there will be and they could be deadly.

Brakes (pads and rotors) wear out at approximately 6 months.

Front brakes on 2003 chrysler town and country, with only 67k miles, lock up for no reason disabling the vehicle.this has happened twice in the last 2.5 years.both times, it had to be towed to the dealer where the dealer found the front driver side brake had over heated and locked up. The last time, the brakes became so hot that smoke was coming from the driver side brake as the pad was on fire.each time dealer has replaced front rotors, brake pads, calipers, and a partial brake line with system flushed.each time, we were told they really had no idea why they locked up.they said best guess was rust in the system. This is a real safety hazard as they can lock up at anytime and as we have seen, catch fire.

Abs brake light in dash is on constantly.brakes lock up in emergency stops with resulting skid. Abs does not work at all.

The front brakes wear out prematurely. Dealership is aware of the problem, and the problem has been repaired.

Purchased 2003 chrysler town and country in june of 2004 and have numerous problems. A/c has went out twice, brakes have been replaced twice, now van has lost power and they are replacing valve springs and other internal engine parts. I have had now recall notices or notifications from dealer.

I purchased a new 2003 chrysler town and country van may 23, 2003.today is august 3, 2004.i have 26,000 miles on this van and have just had to replace the front brakes and had to have the drums ground.the brakes have skweaked since the it was new and i reported this to the dealership at least 2 other times before this time.i was told that was "normal" on a new van.i think the wear of these brakes is excessive for this milage and believe it to be poor engineering or a substandard assemblyi have been told that the back brakes are also wearing and will need to be replaced with the next service.i have owned many many new vehicles and i have never experienced this.this is undoubtedly a deffect under the which the warranty should be effective.

I purchased my vechicle in july of 2003.in august of 2003 with about 20,000 miles on it my front brakes had to be replaced.i thought brakes should last much longet than that.the dealership replaced the brakes for me and i chose less expensive ones(180.00) not cheap.he told me they would squeak.ok so they squeaked for months and this past week my rear brakes went bad.i questioned that i have not even had this 1.5 years and have had to replace both front and rear brakes(300.00).he told me they do not make them like they used to.i would expect them to be better today.i am very dissappointed in this van.i will probably never buy a chrysler again considering i have already spent 500.00 on the brakes.

Steering is making a whining sound and started around 65,000 miles.i've owned three chrysler vans and always seem to have a problem that many other people have and wonder why chrysler doesn't recall that item or correct that problem with newer models.i think i've finally learned my lesson.no more chryslers.

This vehicle was purchased new by me on 03/29/03. After 6 months the power steering pump became noisy and the steering would shudder. I brought the vehicle to the dealer on 11/03/03 @ 10,450 miles. Dealer replaced power steering return hose under warranty. The steering is still noisy and still shudders. On 02/02/04 @ 13,083 miles, vehicle brought to dealer due to power steering fluid leak and shuddering. Leak fixed, power steering still noisy and shudders. On 03/25/04 @ 15,622 miles brought to dealer because power steering is noisy and still shudders. Told by dealer that they couldn't find anything wrong. On 03/29/05 @ 30,408 miles brought to dealer because power steering still noisy and shudders. Dealer performed recall d-37, replaced power steering return hose. This did not correct the problem. This problem still continues to this day. I have all the records pertaining to this problem.

Steering locks up during cold and/or wet conditions. I grinding noise is always present but gets very loud during slow turns. On first dealer visit i was told the ps pump was the problem and there was a recall pertaining to that unit. After the recall service was performed, the same noise was diagnosed as a brake problem. Now that the brake caliperand rotors have been replaced the dealer indicated rack system needs to be replaced. This has become more than a nuisance it is a safety issue when steering become unreliable.

About 6 months ago i started hearing a whine/groan when making sharp turns. It was originally decided that i need a new power steering pump. I took my vehicle in while getting my tires changed it was then switched to i needed a new power steering rack. Every garage told me something different. 1500 dollars later i am with a new power steering pump, reservoir, rack, cooler hose, and fin packed hose and still the whine and shudder and groan while making sharp turns or into parking spaces. I am in tears and feel helpless with this vehicle. It's in gorgeous condition, however totally unaware of if i want it anymore to drive my children around in due to safety concerns. After spending 20k + on a vehicle, where is the customer service and satisfaction??

I went to change the oil on our 2003 chrysler t&c and noticed a leak which i assumed to be transmission fluid. I took it to the dealer the next day. The transmission was fixed under warranty for the second time, but i'm not complaining about the transmission, yet. The leaking fluid was also part power steering fluid. Imagine my surprise when i was told the van needed a new steering rack and seals at 72,000 miles. Imagine my surprise when they told me the price and that i was paying for it.i hereby add my voice to this probably futile litany of complaints about these steering racks. Fortunately, i happened to notice the leaks before anything went dry.the kicker was that after the rack repair, my wife said it still sounded funny. Ended up taking it back. That was when they decided to do the steering hose recall repair which we never heard about. Of course, the parts were on backorder so my wife and i got to have our schedules screwed up with 3 separate visits to the shop.chrysler/fiat - meant to be? ( as in f. I. A. T. If you get my drift...).

Low moaning noise coming from the front end. More pronounced during cold weather and when making turns. Dealer told me the brakes were bad (after 25k miles). Replaced the brakes and the noise still there. Over time the noise became even louder. Couldn't stand the noise any longer and took the car to the dealer 20 months later at 45k miles. I was told the power steering pump, water pump, serpentine belt, and tensioner needed replacing. The water pump was under warranty.replaced everything and moaning noise returned the next day (it sounded worse). Dealer drained p.s. Fluid and added p.s. Fluid conditioner and the noise is now gone. While listening for the moaning noise to return i'm hearing noises i haven't heard before. I wonder if the p.s. Fluid was the problem from the beginning. It would have saved me over nine hundred dollars in repair costs.

I purchased the 2003 town/chrysler van about 3 months. Ago as soon as i got it it started to make noises, i took the vehicle back to the dealer ,they stated it need power steering fluid in which they did put in the van . A couple of days later the van started making noises again. I later got a letter in the mail stating that there was a recall concerning the power steering pump, i also found out there is a recallon the rear back door in which they the chrysler dealer states they will fix for free.the biggest problem they want fix for free is the steering rack which is leaking. I don't feel that this is my fault and the finance people are hounding me to pay $529.00 a month on a vehicle that is soon to be out of remission. Isthere someone that can help me get out of this deal.

The contact owns a 2003 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the power steering made a loud winding noise and locked up. The contact stated that the issue only occurred in inclement weather without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 165,000.

In march of 2006 we noticed that our town & country mini van was steeringsloppy, lose and had loud noises coming from the area of the steering rack. After having the car inspect, it was determined that the steer rack had failed with only 53000 miles on it. We contacted chrysler and was told that it is out of warranty and would not be covered. We had the steering rack replaced and this year in march , the second rack failed, which we also had replaced. In july of this year the third steering rack failed, and i was told by the service manager at the dealership that they have had "problems" with these steering racks.

The front brake system gets hot. I loose steering, front tire wobbles and brake starts smoking the hose kinks also.

At approx 58000 miles the steering system began to make a whining noise. Power steering fluid levels were at proper levels but it sounded like a dry pump. Then the power steering became erratic. Turning easy then part way through the turn it became very difficult and then without warning easy again. Very dangerous. Eventually the rack had completely failed.

We purchased our 2003 town and country in january2008 we were second owners of the vehicle.about a year after purchased noticed the power steering was beginning to stick and become undrivable.would have to pull over or stop driving all together until the power steering loosened up.it would make a loud noise and not turn at all and as it began to loosen the noise would begin to become less and less, reported this information to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong.we are still having this issue and have taken back to the dealer and again same answer they can't find a problem.we have noticed that this occurs when the temperature drops below a certain degree but weather should not be affecting power steering of a car.we have tried to have this issue resolved and are still awaiting to have this problem addressed.

2003 chrysler town and country power steering assist hose recall notice was never sent to current and original owner, just found out recently that a recall was issued in 2004. The owners vehicle broke down on highway in 2009 due to this problem and owner paid local garage to fix, but vehicle power steering still is making noise and needs to have recall work that owner didn't know about. Vin # was checked on chrysler website and no recall notice was posted about this recall.

While drivingat normal speed vehicle unexpectedly veered to the right.driver grabbed the steering wheel and the steer wheel did a complete turn but the vehicle didn't respond. As a result thevehicle went into a ditch.

While turning left with the turn signal engaged, the steering wheel locked and failed to return back to the center. The consumer had to physically snatch the steering wheel to move it back. The consumer stated that a considerable amount of force was required to get the steering wheel to move back to the center position causing something to break internally in the steering column.*tc

Steering rack on my chrysler town and country 2003 minivan let go at 75,000 miles and according to our repairman is a defect and should be reported to get a recall.then i looked online and thousands of other chrysler and dodge owners are having the same exact problem.

At low out-side temperature the power steering fails to work properly.when the vehicle is idle and a turn is about to occur, a whining noise is noted and the steering wheel does not respond unless the engine is accelerated, occasionally losing control at turning.this event occurs only in wintertime when temperature drops below 70 degree f and when the vehicle is cold.as out-side temperature increase (about 80 degree f) whining noise goes away and the power steering works perfectly.this is not notice during any other season time.only at winter time when the out-side temperature drops below 70 degree f and as temperature keeps dropping, it becomes worse.the power fluid is changed periodically to alleviate the whining and the power steering has been replaced about three times.this has been happening since 12/2006.

Steering wheel loose, loud pop sound from steering column, loss of steering in vehicle. Vehicle still at dealership for repair.

2003 chrysler town and country. Consumer states steering up/down control mechanism stopped functioning *tgwthe consumer stated when he removed the fairing cover at the back of the steering column, the one-piece slide assembly showed a breaking point. When the control pin reached the grooved area of the toothed assembly, it caused the upper section to spring up, allowing up and down adjustment.when the desired up/down adjustment was reached, the control lever was released, allowing the slide assembly to move back out of the groove where the upper arms engaged the teeth on the lower toothed assembly to the desired position. Due to the controlled pin rotation/migration to the right, possibly caused by lack of lubricant, when the pin became disengaged from the left side of the assembly and when the control lever was engaged to adjust up/down, the control assembly became inoperative and the left sideof the slide assembly broke. Now when the control lever is pulled, the broken left side of the slide assembly moves back freely without engaging the toothed assembly.the lubricant that was applied at initial assembly is now dried at critical points, the control arm, pivot point and the grooved slide area between the control pin and the upper section of the toothed assembly.

When will chrysler do a recall on power steering lines, pumps, etc. My son is 16 and has only been driving for a few months. He almost lost control of our vehicle because the power steering froze and he couldn't turn! luckily he was smart enough to just park it, and we had it towed. The power steering lines broke (again) !the mechanic said there are 173 people on the waiting list for a power steering line. Doesn't this suggest this is a problem? i have had to add power steering fluid to my vehicle since the day i purchased it. I have replaced water pumps, bushings, links, and continue to have problems with the power steering. Will they wait until enough people have died from losing control of their vehicle?i don't even feel safe having my son take this vehicle is it can happen without any advanced warning! what are they thinking? check out this website - 73 comments on the power steering issue: townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f172b27. By the looks of it this has been going on for a while. I am not the only one...but if something happens to my son - it will be too late! *cw

2003 chrysler town and country was brought into dealership on 10/21 for recall on the power steering.on 10/22 owner noticed a "burning odor".on 10/23 as owner was pulling into a parking space there was a loud pop and smoke began pouring from under the hood along with power steering fluid spraying out from the hood and all over the ground.complete loss of steering.

December 7, 2004 i took my van into the dealership because it was making this loud sound on the drivers side and was worse when i turned the wheel.they said they performed the recall which fixed the problem.3 months later i noticed the noise had returned.i took it in on july 7 to have them check the loud noise again and they said they could not duplicate the problem.i once again took it in beginning of august for same problem.this time they had the vehicle 4 days and replaced the power steering.took it home and the noise was still there.i took it in one week late for the same loud noise. This time they kept it 2 days and replaced the power steering hose.well i took it in again today 9/7 for the same noise and have offered to go in tomorrow morning to diagnose the problem myself.

I bought a 2003 town & country in may '06. In june of '06 i would here a whining noise when i turned the steering wheel. It seems to be a lot worse when it is cold outside. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they advised me that my steering column was bad and the steering pump needed to be replaced. They said that is was going to be over $1100.00. I did not even have the van for a month yet and they were not even willing to fix it. So we are dealing with the problem but the more we drive it the noise continues to get worse. We have not had any help from the dealership and i have a feeling that they knew that part was bad when they sold us that vehicle because having it for less than month i'm sure that i didn't put much wear and tear on it.

2003 chrysler town and country power steering assist hose recall notice was never sent to current and original owner, just found out recently that a recall was issued in 2004. Vin # was checked on chrysler website and no recall notice was posted about this recall.

Passenger side electrically operated door does not latch after closing. Door does not always display to driver that it is not latched.

The rear tail gate popped wide open on freeway and the dog jumped out.the dealer mechanican found that the rear latch was latched without the gate closed and there was no warning light on the dash.cause:incomplete latch release.pawl switch failure.*sc

On 2 separate occasionshatchback popped open by itself.the second time this failure occurred hatch back hit a brick wall in a parking lot. The rear windshield and windshield wipers broke. The dealership was contacted, but didn't provide any assistance.

Rear hatch would lock - but not be secured.several times, during acceleration, rear hatch would open - exposing occupants to outside - as well as forcing driver to stop vehicle in high speed areas (especially freeway on-ramps).two previous notifications to the dealership were of no help.finally fixed end december 2004.driver's power window failed completely.two trips to dealership (for what was intermittent at time) gave me a silicone grease that i am still wiping off the window every time that iuse.finally fixed december 2004.also, experiencing the much mentioned noises from the front end.the power steering noise (dealer says normal) and a crunching / clicking sound that sounds like a bad cv joint or at least a broken suspension piece.unresolved as of picking up from dealer today.chrysler service is not very impressive.i have never dealt with a car company that could explain away so many abnormalities as being normal.

While driving hatchback intermittently opened. No warning light shown before or after the incident.dealership was notified, reprogramed the lift-gate module did not resolve the problem.a new latch mechanism was installed a week ago and the problem has not re-occurred.

Liftgate was open, closed on its own and window exploded. Window glass was everywhere..

Liftgate tended to pop open it on its own. The light inside the dashboard indicated that the liftgate was not open when this occurred. Took vehicle to dealer for a checkup, but the cause was undetermined.

While drivingat normal speed vehicle unexpectedly veered to the right.driver grabbed the steering wheel and the steer wheel did a complete turn but the vehicle didn't respond. As a result thevehicle went into a ditch.

Insured was driving down the road and the control arm failed causing the tire to come loose and vehicle disable. This was due to a mechanical failure. Vehicle involved chrysler town & country lx2003.

Vehicle has 37,000 mile.2003 chrysler town and country limited, front wheel drive.am replacing the sway bar linkage and bushings for the third time.found on front axle.

I purchased a handicap accessible van with a lowered floor.the rear leaf springs are attached to the frame with brackets.these brackets are lower than the floor leaving about 3.25 to 3.5 inches of clearance to the road.i consider this low clearance as a potential safety hazard and it will also prevent access to a driveway where the vehicle is to be used.are there regulations or laws governing van conversion road clearance?

While driving the consumer heard a rattling noise.all the axle flange bolts came off and caused a piece of the rear axle to hang from the vehicle. *nlm

I had a spare tire carrier not lower the spare tire down on my 2003 chrysler towne and country, when i was stuck on a country road where there was no houses for miles and there was no cell service available.i was stuck with my 2 very young andseverely autistic children and unable to get assistance.after pulling and tugging on the spare tire for an hour as to try and get it to release in the dangerous situation i was in, the spare tire dropped without any warning and just missed hitting me in the head. I was then able to change the flat tire and travel back home.i have been trying to get a replacement spare tire carrier from chrysler since it was ordered on 10/19/09. Each month they keep telling me it is scheduled for release in another month. The last date they told me for a release date was 12/14/09.when i called for a status today, 12/15/09, i was told it was pushed back for release on 1/27/10.i have been in contact with chrysler directly, reference number: 19075470email case number:2373440reply link: http://www.chrysler.com/wccs/brand_forms/us/reply.jsp?trk_id=kmm6735841i25261l0km&and they have been of no help.my wife is forced to drive our handicapped children back and forth to therapy in a very rural area with no cell service with no spare tire.chrysler is creating a very dangerous situation for my family by failing to supply a replacement part.likewise i was almost severely injured from the original failure of the part as described above.

Rear tire blew out, when stopped to attempt to change the tire, i was unable to get spare tire to release from its holder under the car.talked w/ the mechanic and he explained that all of the minivans suffer from the release mechanism rusting in place after a few years causing the spare to remain locked.only remedy is to cutout and replace the entire spare tire assembly.

I can not start the car right up when i put key in ignition.i have to wait until the security light go off. Now it is getting harder and harder to start....sometimes i have to wait between 1 and 2 hours before it decides to start up.

Vehicle poor design on the alternator bracket. Can't find a brand new part and every used part i find it has the exact same break in the same spot.

Dt:the caller said the warning lights ondashboard will come on and the speedometer and the tachometer will stop working.she saidthat sometimes she has to pull off the road and turn the vehicle off to get the lights to go off, and sometimes they will not start. Going approximately 50 mph on a suburban highway when the accelerator seemingly stuck, rpms would not lower, resulting in great difficulty slowing down.stopping the car was not possible.braking would only slow the car somewhat, not stop the car.was only able to stop the car after shifting into neutral and applying brakes.even then rpms remained very high.informed by the dealership that the problem was "probably" caused by another car service company cleaning the idle speed motor anddamaging it.however, they are not 100% sure because once they were able to get the rpms to come down during the diagnostic workup, they could not reproduce the problem.

Going approx 50 mph on a suburban highway with several stoplights, the accelerator seemingly "stuck", resulting in great difficulty slowing down.stopping the car was not possible.rpms were very high, and could not be lowered.was only able to stop the car after shifting the car into neutral and gradually applying brakes, then turning the car off.confirmed by tow-truck driver and chrysler dealership service personnel that this is some sort of failure in the vehicle itself.they were also unable thus far to get the rpms to slow down.if you start the car now, even in park, the rpms immediately rev very high.the car is currently at the dealership undergoing diagnostic workup.

On 2003 chrysler town and country lxi i had to replace the blower motor relay last year. Now the mode door actuator seems to have failed! i can not change the air blowing through the dash vents to defrost. This is the second time this chrysler model has had defroster problems! two separate parts failed, one this year and one (blower motor) last year. This seems to be a common problem with chrysler vans and no recall? for not having defrosters?

While driving approx. 40 miles an hour, the drivers side rear vent window in my 2003 chrysler town & country exploded all by itself into the van leaving broken pieces of glass all over three small children buckled into car seats. None of the windows were open at the time and there was not a major temp. Change.there was no evidence of anything hitting the window from either the inside or the outside.there were no previous cracks in the window.luckily, all of my children were ok.i reported this to my local chrysler dealership and to the daimler chrysler corp.i see that there are several complaints for this serious problem reported here with nhtsa.someone needs to do something about this before a child or a person is critically injured.

Dt:2003 chrysler town and country ex.shortly after purchasing the vehiclethe consumer took it back to the dealer because the drivers side rear window did not seal correctly.when passenger'srode in the back seat the could hear whistling noise.the salesman pushed in on the window and thought this fixed the problem.there is 60000 miles on the vehicle now.on memorial day weekend that rear window blew out while the consumer was driving 75 mph. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but they will only repair it at the consumer's expense, $200.00.the service department has spoken with warranty through chrysler, and they denied this claim because of the mileage on the vehicle.

My 2003 town and country limited minivan recently had a window blow out on the passenger sliding door.the incident happened while driving down the highway and resembled a tear about a third of the way up the window.it did not resemble an external damage sight and seemed to look as if the window ripped open for some reason.the initial 'tear' was about a foot long and expanded through out the entire window from there.i was quickly referred to my insurance carrier by the dealership.i was on my way there and was less then a mile from them when this occurred.

The drivers side and passenger side windows in my 2003 chrysler town and country have fallen into the door multiple times without warning or during use.the first time was the driver's side as i was leaving work and it was 15 degrees out.the window fell into the door.the second time was the passenger window and it fell out while no one was in the vehicle and it was parked in a very urban downtown area.as i was leaving work i approached my vehicle and noticed the window was gone.i opened the van and could tell it had fallen into the door while i was working that day.the last time i was in the van and i heard a loud snap and my husband who was outside the van opened the door to see what had happened and could tell the window was going to fall.the failure is apparently in the window actuator or something.the dealer has had to replace these parts.it is currently in the shop for the 3 occurrence and we have asked to keep the old part.

Received recall notice for upper power steering hose. Windshield washers inoperative at times.unable to duplicate problem.nar*jls the parts weren't available for the recall.there was a problem with the side window switch and the interior light.*sc

Short/malfunction in windshield washer motor resulting in washer fluid spraying until reservoir was empty.washer could not be shut off and incident occurred while driving at night which caused inability to see the road or other vehicles.

The front brake system gets hot. I loose steering, front tire wobbles and brake starts smoking the hose kinks also.
