Dt: the air bag light illuminated on and off intermittently for a period of time of1-10 minutes. This al occurred while driving.took vehicle to a dealer, who said there was a problem with the clock spring, and each time the light illuminated the air bagsdisengaged. Also s there was a recall up to the 2000 models but not consumer'svehiclemodel.dealerreplaced the clock spring and the issue was resolved.consumer paid out of pocket for repairs.

Air bag light is lit, was supposedly fixed but came back on and we were told that we would need to pay for repair.it is a 2002 town and country, 2001 and 2003 were recalled for same safety defect.why is our year exempted, is chrysler that inept to fix problems???

Air bag warning light began to light (intermittently) at approx 58,500 miles for no apparent reason. Progressively became more frequent, and would remain lit for long periods of time / miles. The few times the warning light would cease, i was able to trigger the error by wiggling the steering wheel left and right several times. Suspected the 'clock spring' cable in steering column, since the problem sounded very similar to recall 04v480000 (which covers 1998-2000 town & country minivans). Became concerned when i found out that air bags would likely not deploy if the warning light was lit during an accident. Requested dealer inspect and advise. I also pointed out the earlier recall on 1998-2000 models. Dealer indicated a $100 diagnostic charge would be billed to me. I spoke to chrysler customer service on 21-july 2008 who indicated no recall was in effect for 2002 t & c's, and i would have to pay for the repair. Customer service indicated i might get reimbursed if a recall was ever ordered. End result: dealer technician determined the 'clock spring' within the steering column was indeed faulty and so i paid the dealer $244.41 to replace the 'clock spring'. Air bag lamp now only lights during the test phase / initial start-up and quickly goes out (as it should). Please note: in contrast to earlier reports of 'clock spring' failure / defect, i did not have any concurrent problem with the cruise control or horn within the steering wheel. These worked fine before and after repair.

Since airbag warning light remains on at all times when vehicle starts up even while driving, the steering wheel horn does not operate at any time and the steering wheel mounted radio controls does not operate.

Takata recall

The clock spring was defective and replaced at my cost.the 2001 models had this problem as a recall.

When drivingat any speed, the air bag warning light appearedintermittently. Consumer contacted the dealer.

Airbag warning light illuminated. Consumer suspectedit may have been related to recall notice 02v293000 concerning clockspring failure.the light illuminate when the vehicle was cold and when the steering wheel was turned. *nlm

2002 chrysler town and country air bag light remains on.afraid it will deploy.

Air bag light is on in my 2002 chrysler town and country.appears that air bag won't deploy with light on.see http://www.allworldauto.com/comments/2002_chrysler_town_and_country_comments_and_complaints_66-428-2002-1.htmlfor litany of similar complaints.this is a potential safety issue and should be a recall.

Dt*:the contact stated without warning, the airbag light illuminated.the dealership determined the light illuminating maybe due to a defective clock spring.the dealership ordered and will install a new clock spring.

My airbag light is on, it is a know problem in the chrysler town & country however this year (2002) doesn't have a recall. I also have a 2005 town & country that is covered under the recall. I want my airbag problem covered under the recall, this is obviously a big problem and i no longer feel safe in my vehicle. The airbag could deploy or may not deploy because of this issue. Please contact me and tell me how i can have this safety issue resolved.

Dt*:the contact stated the airbag light illuminated, the vehicle was taken to two dealerships, where it was determined the clock spring needed to be replaced.

Engine sputtering and failure occured at 23000 miles while driving.vehicle serviced by dealer several times, replacing and repairing electrical system components.dealer has replaced wiring harness/ iginition coils, bare electrical wire shorted/ pcm replaced/replaced clock springtwice, and replaced front control module.consumerwasvery concerned about electrical problems.does not feel vehicle is safe.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while approaching a parking space, the front passenger side air bag deployed without warning. The dealer was notified, but the situation was escalated to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was then notified and towed the vehicle in for inspection. The manufacturer proceeded to deny assistance with repairing the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 137,000.

We had our 2002 town and country to the dealer in johnson city tn a few years back for the same complaint (air bag light stays on).2001 and i think 2003 were recalled for this problem but not 2002.this dealer too wanted us to foot the bill a third time.said no.did not know that they were not to sell a vehicle with the air bag light on.

Air bag light began coming on intermittently.took vehicle to dealer, they replaced clock spring, light was out.light began coming on intermittently again.took vehicle back, was charged several hundred dollars for repairing a wire, light was out.light began coming on intermittently again.took vehicle back and was told they cannot fix it.contacted chrysler with no response.over the years i have filed complaints with your office to no avail.chrysler has had recalls for this model vehicle for years prior and years after but not this one.why does no one care about this one.not sure if there is a problem, if someone stole my airbag or if the government does not really care about safety??

2002 chrysler town & country ex. Air bag light constantly on since two weeks after purchasing the new vehicle in 2002. Was taken into dealership for repair. Within 2 days, air bag light is back on. Several times later no solution. This problem is similar to a documented recall on previous model years of this vehicle. This has been over 5 years now and no solution.i believe chrysler should have a recall for the 2002 year model for this ongoing problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. While driving 25 mph, the contact heard an explosion and felt a vibration. The contact parked and exited the vehicle. A second explosion occurred and the passenger side air bag exploded. The dashboard was destroyed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

Involved in a crash in february 2006 in which a car pulled into the pathway of this vehicle, which had the right of way and was traveling 30-35 mph.other driver was cited with failure to yield.the airbag did not deploy resulting in whiplash of the driver of this vehicle, followed by 3 months of recovery, reduced work schedule, pain, etc.this vehicle hit the other car in the driver side tire, breaking the front axle of the other car.both cars came to a very immediate stop.the airbag was not examined or fixed.

The airbag on my 2002 chrysler town and country has failed due to an issue well known by chrysler: improperly installed clock spring.this is a serious safety issue which chrysler should attend to.i was forced to pay $500 to fix this problem.

Airbag warning light remains on at all times after starting vehicle and the steering wheel mounted cruise controls does not operate.

On june 28, 2008 we purchased a 2002 chrysler town & country van from a local dealer.when i test drove it i noticed a chip in the windshield, front headlight fogged up from moisture inside it and the airbag light stayed on continuously.i pointed this out to the salesperson who stated she would make sure these things were fixed as they interfered with the safety of the vehicle. When i took delivery of the vehicle all things seemed to be alright and then after a few miles the airbag light again illuminated and stayed that way.i took the van back in and told the sales manager about the light.at first he refused to fix it for free.eventually he stated that they would fix it if we paid $100 towards the repair.i decided to accept this offer.when i returned to pick up the van all seemed well but after a few miles of driving the light again came on and stayed on.thinking that there was nothing further we could do, we drove it that way.we still own the van and only recently i was told that as long as that light was on the airbags would not deploy.we are now wanting to sell the van but can't due to this safety problem. I also only learned recently that a dealer can not legally sell a vehicle while the airbag light was on like that.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Air bag light illuminates without any cause.dealer and manufacturer are aware of the problem, but there is currently no remedy. Problem still exsists.*yd

2002 chrsyler town and country with airbag problems. Consumer states that the airbag light flickers and after it flickers it stays on. Consumer states that the airbags probably do not work due to this problem.the dealership has attempted to correct the air bag problem over 10 times.

Airbags failed to deploy during a collision.*mrpassenger air bag did not deploy.the passenger was injured (chrysler town and country).

The clock spring needed to be replaced. The air bags will not deploy. The owner contacted the mfr who offered to pay part but not all of the cost.provide further details. The consumer received the recall notice after the clockspring was already replaced. The consumer request reimbursement.

Air bag light would intermittentlyand momentarilyremain on while driving. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

The air bag light illuminated and the transmission shift lever shifted from drive to neutral while driving.there was an explosion while the vehicle was in motion.the engine light had come on, the transmission went into park, the gear shifter lever didn't move, the gas pedal worked fine but had frozen up in the park position.the air bag did not work and the seat belt didn't work. *sc

While driving at 35 mph consumer's son heard a loud popping sound coming from the steering column.moments later, the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a guard rail on the driver's side.the seat belts were worn, and the air bags did not deploy however, there were no injuries .before the collision the consumerheard ticking sound coming from the steering column. Also, there was a tsb concerning this problem.the vehicle was taken to the dealer once before the collision and once after the collision. Vehiclewas repaired by the dealer, but the problem still persisted.*mr in june 2003 the consumer had a problem with a major draw on the engine with the heat or a/c running.the consumer was told that the compressor was replaced so the a/c and the heater would work properly.the consumer had explained to the service dealer that there was a problem with the steering and the mechanic suggested that this wasn't a dangerous problem.(following this service visit, the consumer's son experienced the above accident)the consumer had also found that the warranty work for the steering hadn't been completed.recall#10010414 *sc

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 15 mph, the front driver and passenger air bags deployed without warning or impact. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. The police was present and a report was filed. The driver and passenger were injured and received medical attention. The vehicle was driven to galeana chrysler jeep ram (14375 s tamiami trl, ft myers, fl 33912), but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

Airbag light and alarm tone comes on intermittently while driving, sometime remains on for more than 10 seconds then goes out and comes back on again after a few seconds.recently at dealer for another unrelated repair and asked them to troubleshoot this, technician said it was an intermittent open in the clock spring (cs) and that there wasn't a recall.i had reported previous clock spring problem on my 1997 dodge which was subsequently recalled and know what it looks like, but this time the cruise, and horn still worked.i purchased a new cs p/n 5082050ac and pulled the steering wheel myself to replace it.it appears to have fixed the problem. However, i noticed that the replacement cs was different than the original cs (which i kept).the defective original cs has the following numbers on it p/n 04685712ac and smaller *1 324101379r*.it also has a socket with copper clips where a connector split 4 wire harness connects to the cs with the two cables going to the airbag module. The replacement cs had no socket and had eliminated the connector and had two 2 wires harnesses hard wired to the cs.i disassembled the defective cs and checked it for breaks in the ribbon conductors there weren't any visible also the construction appeared to be much more durable possibly with braided copper laminate runs.since it was intermittent i suspect that the problem is actually with the harness connector to the cs socket for the airbag connection, developing a loose or dirty contact connection.perhap chrysler already knows this and that is why the replacement has eliminated that point of failure.please pursue a recall action on this for the socket connector type cs as this can cause airbag failure and possible death or injury.i am an engineer by trade and if they want the old part for testing they can contact me directly.

Air bag light keeps on turning on. Vehicle has been taken to the dealershipten times to get it repaired. The vehicle has no current recalls for the air bags......requested extension of the safety recall for 1998-2000 model years to include consumer'smodel year 2002.

My car collided with a 1999 ford f150.my car hit the truck from behind.the impact resulted in severe damage to the front of my car. In fact, my car was totaled and the airbags never deployed.

The air bag light continued to stay on. The consumer was concerned that the air bag will not deploy upon impact. Please provide additional information.sensor light comes on at any speed but mostly when turning the steering wheel.*tc

Air bag warning light comes on and goes off intermittently. Sometimes stays on for weeks, then goes off for months, then comes back on.

I sadly own a 'chrysler' town and country awd 2002 minivan with many electrical and mechanical problems that i'm forced to live with, but the following safety issues are intolerable. First, the intermittent air bag light, now on steadily. Second, the intermittent non-functioning horn, now does not work at all, cruise control does not workand radio buttons on steering wheel does not work. Chrysler corp denies major safety problem exists yet its a complaint that's all over the web among its many other persistent problems. Chrysler says its sounds like the problem may be in the "clock spring" in the steering column. I say its sounds like the problem may be in the care or lack of care of chrysler on real safety issues on their products. Events that lead up to the failure are none, product is just simply defective and fails on its own. Consequences for this failure can be catastrophic, this is not rocket science, no horn and no air bag no brains! chrysler needs to wake up and rectify this safety problem, many other owners have this problem and the government and or the media needs to "get involved before someone dies" if it hasn't "god forbid" already happened. I will be contacting the secretary of transportation and the media to see if a solution can be found rapidly.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed the air bag light came on and the air bag could be inoperative in the event of a vehicle accident. Dealer notified. Ts*dt

Air bag light is constantly on. I called three times and they said my vehicle isout of warranty?

Airbag light comes on and goes off constintly

The power steering produced a grinding sound when turning to the left or the right.(power steering pump)three pumps had been installed in the vehicle, the rack and pinion was replaced once, the hoses had been replaced twice and the air bag light was a problem and was repaired. *sc

Airbag light keeps coming on while driving. Dealerkeeps telling me it is fixed.passenger slider keeps sticking when cold, it does not open by remote.child seat belt has had to be replaced, and still does not latch well.

My wife was turning into our driveway an collided with a snowmobile. The driver side airbag deployed. There was a problem with the inflator (sealed over) and the airbag exploded putting shrapnel into her body. Because of the location of the air bag and the body most of the shrapnel went into her chest, with the airbag plate breaking apart striking her in the chin breaking her jaw in three places.if it hadn't been for a great ambulance crew she would have bled to death. She was in a trauma hospital for 3 and 1/2 months. She has permanent muscle and nerve damage, the jaw is not aligned correctly so he has problems eating.

2002 town and country air bag light illuminated intermittently. ***nar***each time the consumer went to the dealership, they replaced a different part in the airbagsystem and each time for several months everything would be fine and then the problem would resurface again.

Airbag light came on and doesn't go off.i took it to a regular repair shop and their computers can't analyze the problem, it has to be returned to a chrysler dealership.is this a safety hazard and is there a recall for this problem?

Airbag light on in dashboard.was blinking off/on since 30,000 miles.light stays on continuously.told airbags won't work in collision.not covered by chrysler or my extended warranty.first told was clock switch then told was computer airbag module.i have not had any front end collisions.

While driving, the air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dashboard.as a result, the air bags became inoperative and probably would not deploy when needed.the dealership replacedthe clock spring at the consumer'sexpense. The air bag light was intermittent depending on the position of the steering wheel.the steering column had been previously repaired. *sc

The consumer lost control of the vehicle due to a defect in the power steering which was being recalled by the manufacturer. In the process, not only did the consumer loose steering control but the air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Provide further details.

Air bag system warning light. 6 miles after we bought vehicle warning light came on and took to dealer and faulty item was replaced. Since then the warning light has come on a total of 6 times. Each time the van was took in to get fixed. By the time the 5th warning light came on(july 15)we were told the module was putting out false signals. In one instance we were driving our van for a week with the light on waiting for the replacement part and was told the van was perfectly safe to drive. The sixth time we took it in(july 30, milage only at 3499) the warning light was going on and off every few seconds and was told that the wiring was corrosive and they could put a temp fix on it by cleaning/spraying wiring that would last up to 3/5 months. I was not happy with thatdue to safety issues. They also told us that if the air bag light was on the airbags would not work properly. Which upset us due to the time we were driving the van for a week with light on due to them saying it would be safe. We contacted diamler chrysler july 15th and filed a complaint. Two weeks after last visit (30 july) contacted dealer to see if solution to problem was fould yet because was uncomfortable with temp fix. Now they will be doing a complete rewiring on 21 august. Hoping this will be the last and final time i have to take it in for the same problem. Due to safety issues of air bags and the safety of my family, i wanted to inform you of the problems going on with our van. And to find out any important information regarding air bag warning light problems currentlyhappening. Thank you.

1) at low speeds, especially turning there was noise and shaking in the front of the chrysler 2002 town and country. It was identified at a garage as a power steering cooler hose problem and in fact there was a recall for this. I then took it to a chrysler dealer - doan in rochester ny - who agreed that was the problem, butmy vehicle identification number was not on the list for replacement.i found it very hard to believe that the correct problem did not qualify. I called chrysler customer service and got the same story. They said that the vin numbers listed were determined by nhtsa and they - in so many words - were off the hook.i did have it replaced with my own money, but i am upset about it.2) my air bag light started to go on telling me that the air bags were turned off.then the light would go off for a little and come back on for no reason , speed, or outside temperature. Again i was told it was clock springing in the mechanism in the steering column. I felt that this was a very dangerous problem involving the life or death of my family should an accident occur. The dealer again agreed that this was the problem, encouraged me to get it fixed, and gave me an indication that this was common and that again my vehicle did not qualify for any recall.i had it fixed, but feel that this is a dangerous situation.

1.3rd replacement of clockspring in air bag system (at dealer right now)2. Transmission coolant lines rusted out resulting in loss of transmission fluid to transmission and vehicle while driving.

Clock spring defect in steering column that disabled airbag when making turns.

The airbag light started going on an off at first and now is on consistntly.dealer claims that it is a faulty clock spring which i have heard has been recalled on some of the older models.this is a major safety issue and should be addressed immediately.this van has been a bear since the beginning and it just never seems to quit.

Air bag light remained illuminated while driving, andcruise control worked intermittently.dealer was notified andinformed consumer that vehicle was not covered under the clock spring recall.

Air bag light illuminated while driving. Consumer contacted the dealer, who informed the consumer that the problem the vehicle was experiencing was not covered under a manufacturer's recall.

Dt: the consumer stated2002 chrysler town & country was having problems with the air bag light staying on and off for about 5 months. The consumer took the vehicleto the dealership to have the airbag light fixed, and they informed him that the light was on due to the seat belt left tensioner being defective. The dealership replaced the whole unit on the seat belt tensioner. The cost was$150.75 for the consumer to have this repaired. The consumer felt that it was chrysler'sresponsibility to reimburse him for the cost. The consumer stated that this was a safety issue. The consumer was very unhappy that chrysler did not reimbursing him for the repairs. The consumer was an employee of chrysler, he worked at amanfacturing plant in michigan and had only purchased chrysler vehicles for 34 years. The consumer discussed this issuewith chrysler. Theyadvisd himcallnhtsa.

I have a 2002 chrysler town & country mini-van.it seems to be having a problem with the air-bag sensor light turning on and off intermitantly.it is my understanding that their is a recall on many 1996-98 models with this same problem.my van is barely out of warranty and chrysler claims that my case is unrelated to their recall campaign.i find it very coincidental that my van is experiancing the same problem with the clock spring.can you advise?

Dt: airbag light came on without deployment.tookvehicle to the dealer, who repaired the air bag.consumer stated dealer did not say what the problem was.about a year ago this happened , andcurrently air bag light illuminated periodically and stayed on for a few seconds andthen went off.tookvehicle back to dealer, and no repairs were made.currently, the liftgate light was on. Consumer did not know why the light cameon.consumer had a repair done to latch on rear automatic liftgate, but the light still stayed on while driving-this was covered under an extended warranty-there was a recall on the 2003 chrysler town and country minivans, but this was a 2002 model. This was fine for about a day after leaving the dealer, but started coming on again.

I have a 2002 chrysler town and country that has an air bag warning light that illuminates intermittently. Upon researching this issue i learned that there had been a recall on several of these vehicles in 2002 to address an issue with a clockspring. This issue causes integral safety features, such as the horn and air bag, to fail on occasion. I first contacted my local dealer who informed me that my vin did not come up as being eligible for the recall. I contacted chrysler directly and got the same answer. The issue may not come up on a vin search, but it certainly does impact my vehicle. I have tried to obtain authorization to have the clockspring replaced at chrysler's expense, to no avail. As this is a potential safety hazard, i would like to see the matter investigated.

Consumer complained about anair bag problem.the air bag light stayed on. Ownercontacted the manufacturer, and was informed that there were no recalls for this year, make, and model. What originally started out as an intermittent problem becameconstant.

I have had many things go wrong with my chrysler t& c minivan since i purchased it new in 2002.the latest problem is the clockspring which has been a problem in older models.in fact a recall was issued on 1996-200 yr models.i believe the part is still defective and should be covered by chrysler.they insist on charching me for the repair, $172.00.it is a safety issue and should be covered.please advise.

The consumer stated the air bag's clock spring failed intermittently. The part was repaired three times. However the problem recurred. As a result the vehicle lostpower.failure in the electrical safety system: airbag light.*tc

My 2002 chrysler town&country has an airbag light showing on the dash. I have been told by a chrysler mechanic its caused by a defective clock spring. I believe this is a safety recall issue and should be fixed at chrysler expense. Also the emergency brake has never worked and chrysler refused to fix it.

My right side airbag internally opened (2002 chrysler town & country 3.3 v-6) stated bymetro jeep and chrysler. I don't understand why. I have no idea why this happened. I haven't been in any kind of collision. At metro jeep & chrysler. I was told that if a new module is not put in, the right side airbag won't deploy. I believe that this is a manufacturer"s (chrysler) error.

2002 chrysler town & country ex with supplemental side air bags.the vehicle was in a side impact crash with over $17,000 in damage and the side air bags did not fire.*la

The airbag warning light comes on in the2002 town & country limited shortly after starting it and as we drove intermittently. It stayedlit for 5-20 seconds each time. I tookvehicleto the dealer to ask the question, and was told theairbag warning light was probably caused by the clock spring. I was told that theywereon back order, especially for steering wheels with the radio controls built in which mine had. The partsrepresentative said he could order it but didnt know when it would be in.in addition, ithere was a cost for installation as well as the part. I expressed my concern about an airbag misfire or failure to fire, and he said that the airbag deactivated when the lightwas on, but as long as the lightwas off it should work fine. Also there shouldn't be any risk of misfire, but he couldnt guarantee it. Is this considered a safety issue, especially since while the lightwas on the airbag won't fire? should i be charged for such a repair if it was safety related? i just purchased the vehicle from a private owner and just wanted to make sure it was safe since i travel with my family in it.

Flimsy seat handle design broke off while my 5 year old daughter was holding on to it while manuevering the awkwardly small space to get out of the rear seat, causing her to fall out of the vehicle and be injured.

The van was purchased in march and around july the middle section of the front where the ac unit, radio, controls, etc are located began to stop working properly. The ac will not cut off, instead the air pressure increases and doesn't stop. This has affected my back unit and the heat will not work, which makes it hard to bear with small children. Recently, the cd changer has been messing up and not ejecting cd's or changing. Nothing has been repaired, because it will cost a lot, according to the dealer, to locate the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, smoke emitted from under the hood. The contact inspected the vehicle and found the wiring harness was on fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire and the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was 171,528.

10am, driving at a low rate of speed, slowing to turn left, i suddenly lost power steering and had to manual make the turn (very difficult).the vanwas also hesitating, like it would stall.i regained full power and power steering after 10 seconds +/-.noon, same day, accellerating <35mph, uphill, same problem occurred with the exception that after power steering failure, i completely stalled in the road and had to restart the vehicle.brought to dealership wednesday. They were unable to find the problem (no code) or duplicate the problem.(also an issue with an intermittent problem with the power side door popping off but not power opening).both electrical issues have occured since the five star dealership corrected an electrical problem with my power gatelift popping off but not power opening)i have called chrysler directly about technical service bulletins issued on both items and the advance service information 02-018/nhtsa#10000327 relating to the problem with the power side door and/or liftgate. Even with providing this information, the problem cannot be fixed until they get a "code". I have exhausted my progress with chrysler in their assistance with the proper diagnosis of the problem so i could pay to have the correct component replaced. My option is to pay $50 per diagnostic check by the dealer regardless of whether the vehicle "codes" the problem and no assurances as to the number of diagnostic checks it may take to produce the "code", so i filed a complaint with chrysler customer assistance "which is handled in house".when asked what department handles complaints, i was told " chrysler customer assistance".i clarified that is the same department title as to which i was speaking with, it was explained that customer assistance has many departments, which are not given titles, and that they are not allowed to provide names of whom would be handling the complaint, nor would anyone follow up with me. The circles begins!

My lights flicker on and off, replaced battery and alternator.. Not fixed.. Now i have been noticing that the panel behind my headlight switch gets very hot tothe touch. Afraid of a fire... Can't find any info on internet as to what can be the problem.

*sc

On monday, july 5th 2004, my 2002 chrysler town and country [xxx] erupted in a van fire.my daughter was sitting on the 3rd seat on the left side of the vehicle when she heard noise, saw flames and yelled there was a fire.my family immediately evacuated the vehicle.nyc fire department, chrysler fire investigator and auto insurance fire investigator deemed it as an electrical malfunction due to a manufacturer's defect.no recalls have been placed on this issue. Updated 07/25/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. While the contact was at driving various speeds the engine stalled without prior warning. The engine restarted and the contact resumed normally. The failure recurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they were unable to locate the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.updated 8/29/11 the consumer also stated the vehicle had electrical problems and the pcm failed. Updated 10/05/11

Driving vehicle at appropriate speed in traffic, noticed a/c was blowing warm air, smell of something burning and smoke under hood from passenger side. Immediately turned off air and stopped vehicle as soon as it was safe to do so. Upon opening the hood found smoke coming from right front engine bay area around alternator and a/c compressor. Allowed engine to ventilate and cool, restarted vehicle but with hvac system off and drove to the nearest repair shop where the mechanic checked the vehicle. Mechanic changed the engine oil and recommended to charge the a/c system with refrigerant. Other mechanics suggested taking vehicle to a/c repair shop. Informed that t&c vehicles prone to have a/c compressor issues and known defect. Never received recall notice or offer by chrysler to have known defect corrected.

Component:electrical systemmy complaint is exactly the same as following complaint.it occurs every time i drive the vehicle.details: 2002 chrysler town and country service tire system soon indication keeps coming on. Then it says "see owners manual". There is little or no information in the owners manual and it does say contact the dealer for service. I called the dealer and talked with the service manager and he said there was nothing they could do and i should check the air in the tires. I have done this numerous times and always find the tire air pressure to be normal. The vehicle is equipped with tire pressure sensors and i also get low pressure warnings in the spring and fall. I am forced to keep 35 pounds of air pressure or more to keep the low pressure warning from coming on. Occurrences: 1 injuries: 0

Problems with remote entry on 2002 chrysler town and country.*mrthe remote works from as far away as 600+ feet and at times this presents a problem.there have been times when the consumer has come out of the house to get in the car, after it had rained the night before, and found that one of the sliding doors was open and the inside of the vehicle was wet.similar incidents have occurred while the consumer was shopping.the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to fix the problem.

Airbag warning light remains on at all times after starting vehicle and the steering wheel mounted cruise controls does not operate.

Given the news (may 14/15 2013) of the federal prop for notice of recall for chrysler vehicles problems cutting off while driving with no warning or indication of any problem i request other vehicles (ie chrysler vans) for this particular issue be seriously considered and submit the following: (note: i can provide all exact dates/miles documentation as the vehicle was serviced by chrysler, woodbridge, va.i'm original owner of the vehicle.)i was driving my 2002 chrysler town & country (vin can be provided on request) approximately 50 miles an hour on route 50about 20 miles east of winchester, va and my vehicle just shut off. No indications, no warning light, no other unusual noises. It just shut off. Luckily there was little traffic and i coasted to the shoulder. I attempted to start the vehicle several occasion and it would not turn on.all vehicle lights (interior/exterior) radio, fans etc were operational.i recall the roads were clear, weather cool and it was almost noon.ultimately i had my vehicle towed and serviced by a chrysler dealer service center in woodbridge, va.i did report that the vehicle just shut off and gave further information.after leaving the vehicle, it took the service center close to approximately a week or more to determine what the problem could be. Ultimately the engine computer module (ecm) was replaced and some electrical wiring harnesses. I also recall the chrysler rep saying they needed their electrician to come and look at the vehicle as their mechanics could not find the problem. I can provide further comments and records.i do believe the ecm in my vehicle was changed out once before by chrysler (possible previous recall (?). I may have a picture/info on the older ecm with serial number/date (possible 2005). Van is running fine since new ecm and other items that replaced..so far.

Vehicle had just entered atlanta georgia on i85 southbound.there was very heavy stop and go traffic.upon light acceleration, the engine lost power.the engine never stalled.the idle remained smooth.in neutral the engine would accelerate normally.in drive (all gears) and reverse, the engine would accelerate to about 900 rpm and then lose power.we were able to drive along the shoulder at a slow walking pace (a slight incline) until we encountered a disabled vehicle.the van did not have the power to pull into the stop and go traffic.a tow truck was called and the van towed to a dealership for repairs.no check engine light and the engine restarted normally.the engine never ran rough and all the fluids looked good and were at correct levels.the dealership determined that the fuel pump was the problem since they measured the pressure at 40 psi and the specification was 53 psi.the fuel pump and filter was repaired at a cost of $686 plus towing.the powertrain warranty apparently does not cover these items.the replaced parts were not made available to us.after pickup from the dealership the van has intermittently experienced a pronounced hesitation accelerating from a stop.no check engine light.the van duplicated the same failure again on 12/30/06.we had just pulled out from a parking space at a restaurant.every aspect of the incident was the same even to our proceeding to drive down the shoulder. Except in this case the shoulder was a slight decline. When the van made it to about 5 mph the problem disappeared and the van drove fine for the remaining 95 miles of our trip.the next time that the van was started it went straight to another dealership for repair. The dealership could not find anything wrong with the van but charged a estimate fee and said to bring it back when it was experiencing the problem. There were no trouble codes set for them to diagnose the problem and the van behaved fine during the test drive.

I have a 2002 chrysler town and country (90,000 miles). After normal driving and parking ,car would not start. I found out later that the starter had an internal short. It destroyed the battery and melted the starter housing, concerned that it could have caused a major fire!!!.(pictures available, had to return core to auto parts store).

Since the day i drove my van off of the dealers lot, all of the lights (map lights, dome light and headlights) on the van pulse (similar to the pulse of a flourescent tube warming up on a cold day).the speed of the pulse changes with the speed of the engine.the van has been to two different 5-star dealers and the headlight switch has been replaced twice.something in the computer was upgraded once.every oil change they try to determine if/what might be causing the problem; to no avail.because the speed of the pulse changes with the engine rpms and from other personal experiences, my husband believes it is the alternator current bleeding into the rest of the electrical systems, but because the alternator doesn't test bad according to their computer they are unwilling to consider this possibility.

My 2002 town and country had to have a new transmission in 11/12. In june of this year, my speedometer quit working causing the transmission to shift hard. I took it to the transmission guy who replaced the speed sensor. It worked fine for a couple of weeks. Then my battery light came on suddenly. I had my battery checked and they said it was fine. They said i might need a new alternator. So i had a new alternator put in. The car did ok for about a couple of weeks, then the speedometer started jumping erratically. I took back to my transmission guy who said the speed sensor was fine. He thinks it may be due to a loose wire or a possibly damaged wire or corrosion. So far, no answers and my car is still undrivable. It jumps when i am stopped. It acts like its already in second gear or something. I am afraid to try to drive it as it is dangerous. Help! i can not afford to put more money into this. It cost too much to start with. 3.8l v6 limited. I am a single mom with a child who has heart defects. I need reliable transportation!

Drivers window not working along with radio, the windshield wipers will not shut off even with key out of ignition, removed fuse and then the car would not start, once we had the car jumped the rear windshield wiper started and wouldn't stop and the dials in the dashboard starting spinning and car needs to get a jump each time it is shut off.no one can seem to find the problem with it.i called chrysler and they stated that there was nothing they could do because the recalls are vin specific and that one has not been recalled, despite the fact i am reading this happening to others who also have 2002 chrysler town & country.

From the almost day one this cars has had electrical problems.originally thedash lights light up and would not go out for several minutes. Then the fuel pump started to operate poorly.then a slight hesitation began at idle.then i noticed a hesitation at about 40 mph when the car was pulling a incline.then the headlights began to flutter as rpms fluctuated.then the headlights began to flash violently.a switch was finally replaced and the lights have not had the same problem flashing, but do appear to have some minor flutters in them from time to time. After this, all of the gear selector lights came on at one time. You could not tell what gear the transmission was in.thecar also would not hold on a slight incline when stopped for a traffic light or stop sign.when taking your foot off the brake, the car would drift quickly, almost causing an accident.the dealer tate of glen burnie. Md. Said the car was designed to work that way. About october to november time period, the driver's side power sliding door unlocked itself and open about 10-12 inches while the car was in motion at about 25 mph .a door module was replaced to see if that solved the problem. It hasn't open since. But about 3 weeks ago now, the passenger side door started to do the same thing.both times, there were passengers in the back seats by the doors. Chrysler now refused to fix it for free because it is over the basic warranty, even though it has had multiple electical problems. I am at my wits end. I am now approaching the the fear of the car burning up with my family inside or someone being ejected.

Van started running rough and smoking heavy blue/white smoke out the exhaust pipe.the smoke was from raw unburned fuel that was pouring into the engine and unable to be burned off at any rpm below 3000.the van was fine when last parked at our residence.next day wife was going to the store and van immediately had the problem.cool engine, had been sitting overnight.she drove about half a mile thinking the van would run smoother before seeing and smelling the gas and smoke.she immediately returned the van to the house.i checked the diagnostic code which indicated p0201: #1 fuel injector open circuit.i am fairly handy with vehicle repairs and decided to take the top half of the intake off to check the #1 injector and inspect the other 5 as well while there.all injectors coil resistance checked fine at 12.5 ohms, no open circuit as indicated. Decided to check the fuel rail wiring harness for a short circuit and sure enough the #1 cylinder wiring indicated a short circuit.with the meter on the injected plug, wiggled the harness and the short went away.so i removed the entire injected wiring harness for inspection, this involved removing all the factory wire wrap and protective sleeve.discovered that all the wires inside the harness had all the insulation missing at one section next to the main harness connector.the harness was protected and not touching any part of the engine yet failed.icontacted local chrysler parts dept. And inquired about a replacement harness, response was new harness over $200 and had to be ordered.was also told that this particular harness which fits 2001 - 2003 chrysler vans, is ordered by chrysler garages at 53 units a week.this is where the problem lies.this is a factory flaw and needs to be recalled before a fire starts or toxic fumes from the exhaust injures a passenger.there is no heat shield at this connectors location which i believe caused the harness failure. I repaired the harness and engine runs.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.the contact has experienced several issues with the electrical components in his vehicle.the vehicle would jump when the accelerator pedal was depressed or accelerating at any speed.the dealer replaced all the wires, wiring harness, spark plugs, and the battery; however, the failure continued.the automatic doors also became inoperable.the vehicle was taken to a different dealer and they stated that a new oxygen system was needed.the computer system and spark plugs wires were replaced, but the failure continued.the manufacturer was notified and a case was filed.they stated that the vehicle could be repaired under warranty.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was over 100,000.

Left side power sliding door stop functioning.

2002 chrysler town & country lxi. Turn signal indicator lights inside vehicle are malfunctioning, we are unaware if they malfunction outside, other lights are shorted out inside in the "dash" area.these are all indicators of an electrical short somewhere in the vehicle.also the power rear door on the driver's side does not open using the keypad when it is cool or raining. We were told by dealership at the time of purchase that it didn't operate at all and needed a new motor, that's why we were "getting a good price". The rear power doors will both also almost close all the way, and then open for not reason, i.e. Nothing in the way at all. The rear power doors will also not close if you are on a very slight slant. The liftgate gives a hard time latching when using keypad. The vehicle was purchased in october 2008 preowned from a dealership. These issues cause a major safety threat. Others with the same make, model and year are having similar problems.i feel that this vehicle has many problems and should be recalled at least for the faulty wiring and electrical system.

Automatic transmission disengaged while driving. Dealer was unable to duplicate or correct the problem.the service dealer manager verified and experienced these conditions and was unable to correct the problem.two days after the purchase, the van shuttered at low speed, low rpms in reverse, slipped out of gear when attempting to ascend in grade, the check engine light had come on.other problems that occurred, were as followed:the brake calipers were squealing which may have been due to sticking, the vehicle leaned to the left, and the right sliding door didn't open from the inside switch. *scc

The fuel injection wiring harness length is apparently too long and it can drop down near the exhaust manifold where the heat will melt the insulation on the wires causing them to short together causing severe misfire and possible damage to the catalytic converter.the vehicle had run fine a couple of days previously and on starting the vehicle it seemed to idle a little rough.driving on the road it ran very rough and was randomly misfiring on multiple cylinders.the mil light began to flash on and off on acceleration. On investigation the wires in the fuel injection wiring harness were found to be melted and shorting together.i suspect in the ensuing two days that the temperature changes exacerbated the problem and temperature change induced movement caused the wires to short together.from researching this problem it affects many vehicles.i'm surprised that a recall has not yet been issued for it.

Several times when trying to start the vehicle the key has refused to turn. After several minutes of banging on the steering wheel and pulling out the key and re-inserting it finally turns. Has happened on several occasions. Started around 65,000 miles now has 73,000 miles.

Vehicle ran poorly at times and occasionally stumbled or stalled.sometimes we would be partly in a busy intersection.perform diagnostics and inspection, remove exhaust for inspection of harness and repair damaged wiring and install protective heat wrap.cost: $268.93could have been very dangerous in traffic.

2002 chrysler town and countryservice tire system soon indication keeps coming on.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that when he attempted to reset the vehicle trip computer, he noticed an error message which caused the speedometer to fail. The contact was unable to determine at what speed he was driving. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed for the failure. The failure and the current mileage were 48,684. My heater fan only comes on when i turn the knob to high, the same thing happens to my sisters town and countrythere must be a defect here because the garage stated that these vehicles are known for that. It is winter and i cannot afford to fix this on my own,and if there is a defect chrysler should replace the part. It gets cold when i have to turn the knob down, i heard there is a card of some sort behind the glove box. How easy is this problem to fix. Also my rear wiper spring is faulty is there a recall on this.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and running when smoke began emitting from under the instrument panel. The vehicle was turned off and the contact inspected the vehicle to discover smoke bellowing from under the hood but no flames.the fuse box was disconnected and the contact found burned wires within the fuse box. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure recurred in less than one year.the vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection. The current mileage was approximately 150,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Car randomly stalls and has no power brakes, steering or control.

Problems w automatic doors. Electrical mechanics cannot find reason why repeated problems w closing back automatic sliding doors. Sometimes they get almost closed and go back. Other times they dont open with fob or button inside car

While driving smoke came from the speakers and then the vehicle caught on fire.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. While driving at 35 mph, the left turn signal was activated and all the lights, meters, and gauges on the instrument panel failed to function. In addition, the contact stated that the doors failed to automatically lock. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The contact was unsure about what part needed to be replaced; however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.

2002 chryslertown & countrylx minivan instrument cluster/gauges stopped working.no turn signals, no gauges mph, fuel, rpm, oil, etc.also no engine lights, abs, overheat, etc.nothing within the instrument cluster works.dangerous to get home driving without speedometer, & turn signals!i saw a similar recall for the pt cruiser.could this be the same software glitch in the t&c microprocessor as well.please issue a recall!!!

The indicator appeared when the horn was activated, but the horn didn't sound.scc*nlm

Consumer states excessive force has to be applied in order for the horn to work, contacted dealer .

Long cranking before starting.

The ignition fuse blew out which caused the vehicle to stall. This occurredwhile driving andat a complete stop. This results in loss of power steering. Dealership changed ignition fuse 23 to 10 amp. The failure recurred 2 week later. Dealership service invoice read that transmission at pin area and around solenoid pack failed.the harness rubbed, chafed, andwas damaged.repaired harness isolated from transmission with rubber. However, failurerecurred.

Engine bogged down and check engine light flashed.5 star dealer replated ignition coil plugs and wires to the tune of $600.on the way home, similar rough running, flashing engine light, back firing, now dealer says it is computer short.other problems with transmission and fuel system took at least three trips to service and many charges to get fixed.the chrystler 7/70 warranty is not worth much to this dissatisfied customer.

Engine sputtering and failure occured at 23000 miles while driving.vehicle serviced by dealer several times, replacing and repairing electrical system components.dealer has replaced wiring harness/ iginition coils, bare electrical wire shorted/ pcm replaced/replaced clock springtwice, and replaced front control module.consumerwasvery concerned about electrical problems.does not feel vehicle is safe.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that she has experienced several failures with the ignition key shaft.while attempting to start the vehicle, she could insert the key into the ignition, but it remained locked.this failure has occurred several times to the point that it could take up to 15 minutes to get the key to turn.the contact would bang on the key and pull the steering wheel back and forth to get the key to turn in the ignition.the failure has progressively worsened.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 63,000.update 09/10/08 *cwupdated 09/10/8.

Ignition lock gets stuck, can not start the van.on two separate occassions got stranded with an infant in the car, was not able to get the van started because of an ignition lock not working properly.

The key cylinderbroke. We just bought the van with 28,000 miles on it. After a few weeks we had a hard time turning the key to get the van to start, sometimes it would take 5 to 10 minutes to be able to turn the key to start the van. We took it back to the chrysler dealership. They had to replace the inside of the ignition. They said it wasn't a warranty item, so i had to pay $191.82.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.while driving 55 mph, the vehicle overheated.the vehicle made a clacking noise and smoke began to rise from the engine.the check engine light did not illuminate until the vehicle began smoking.the contact pulled to the side of the road.the engine shut off and the contact allowed the vehicle to cool down.he added water to the radiator and drove to his residence.the vehicle was then towed to the dealer and they stated that the computers failed and needed to be replaced.the contact disagreed and stated that the vehicle overheated because the fan and cooling system were inadequate in size.the dealer did not repair the vehicle.the current mileage was 71,421 and failure mileage was 50,000.

Problems with power steering pump on 2002 chrysler town and country. *mr there was a continuous problem with the consumers power steering pump. The steering pump made a noise when a right turn was made.the airbag light had come on due to a loose connector on the passenger side which was an intermittent problem. The transmission was noisy, which was possibly due to dirt. *sc

Chrysler t&c.for no apparent reason, the sliding door opened.also, separate issue, while stopped and in park, the sliding door would not open when the console button was pushed. I noticed that the transmission selector lights were all lighted (p, r, n, d, l).i turned off the ignition.restarted the vehicle.drove 10 ft.everything was ok. Dealer could not find anything wrong.

The wiring harness in our 2002 chrysler town & country continues to fail due to the harness design/placement in the vehicle.the first failure caused the vehicle to stall and not restart at a city intersection.the second failure caused the vehicles wipers, heater blower, radio and windows to fail intermittently.wires within the wiring harness were replaced/repaired as was the front control module; however, the same problem is happening again after about three weeks.the dealer service department recommends replacing the entire wiring harness at a cost of $3,200.00.

Over a period of a few weeks i was experiencing intermittent electrical problems where theair conditioner (a/c) fan, radio, windshield wipers, and power windows would stop working for several minutes and then start working again.the problem got worse over these weeks.after 3 trips to the dealer they told me that battery acid had leaked on the wiring harness and i needed a new one. Ihad no problem with the battery, and chrysler dealers had performed most on the maintenance on the car and no one had told me that battery acid was leaking on the wiring harness. The new wiring harness cost me $2,600.it seems to me to be a defect in design to run the wiring harness under the battery. Also, why can't the wiring harness be modular where one section could be replaced at a much lower cost.

Headlights flickered between bright and very dim. Switch to lights became very warm to touch. Dealer claimed switch had poor connection and replaced switch. Switch still gets warm but have not flickered yet. Vehicle new when bought.

Radio and clock would not turn on when car started. Then it turned into the radio and air conditioning unit would not turn on - intermittently. This began in august. 2004, but stopped in october. 2004. Then it began again in early april 2005 or on days when it was warmer and/or wet. Periodically the windshield wipers and windows will not work, also. This incident occursred when the car was running, and did not matter if it was moving or not. However, it did not occur in temperatures lower than 45 degrees, or so.dealership kept it for two days in 2004 and could not find the problem. Tried to say it needed a new electronic wiring harness which would incur a personal cost of over $4,000 for a car that was barely 2 years old.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph, the check engine light illuminated intermittently.this was accompanied by a rough engine idle.as the engine warmed up, the idle calmed.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who ran a diagnotic test, and determined that the number 6 injector had malfunctioned internally, due to the wiring harness rubbing against the transmission case.the short was traced to the engine harness.the wires were replaced, and a bracket was added to retain the harness.the repair fixed the problem.the manufacturer was also notified.updated 01/10/07.

While vehicle was warming up a strong odor and smoke escaped fromdefroster unit intopassenger's compartment due toan electrical short circuit that resulted in a fire.please give any further details.

When cruising highway with a/c on, the right rear speaker heats up very hot to the touch. We tested it, which is related to a/c on because when turn a/c off it cools down in 5 minutes.took it back to dealer even after they repaired the recall.they state it is only the left speaker that is heating up not the right like our experience.they refused to look into it unless we pay for their technician's time.i mentioned how dangerous a speaker fire could be inside next to our kids.as i left a serviceman said we could fix it if you pay us.no fire incident yet but, it sure heats up when we travel and the a/c is on.

Car randomly stalls and has no power brakes, steering or control.

A month after we boughtit stop running would start do anything its been just sitting int he yard sincewe checked fuel pumpput new one in nope that wasn't it we have checked everything .now our friend hins its the head gasketim sorrybutwe just gotthe van in july to only drive itfor2weekscan you help

The town and country van that we own continues to have multiple issues with intermittent stalling and various speeds. The van usually has problems most after refilling with gasoline. This problem has been happening for a few months and continues despite efforts to remedy the problem. I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed by chrysler and the nhtsa to avoid a major casualty incident since these vans are having documented problems at all speeds including highway driving at 70 plus mph. We are not sure if the problem exists due to electrical issues, fuel pump issues or evap system issues due to the fact that no reportable codes are being thrown when the vehicle has this problem.

While driving 35 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer had the vehicle towed.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

2002 chrysler town&country - 45,000 mile. While traveling, suddenly heater began blowing cold air and within 1 minute car went from normal temperature range to extreme overheat and alarms. Stranded in the middle of nowhere had to have car towed over 30 miles to nearest service station. Told rear heater line rusted through and dumped all of the engine coolant. Also told this is a common problem in michigan (this service station has replaced at least 3 of these since spring of this year) apparently chrysler has recognized this problem and replacement part ($255) has been redesigned and is now aluminum rather than steel. Luckily, no engine damage found after failure was repaired.

There is a loud squealing noise under the hood of the vehicle. Dealership stated this is coming from a part in the engine. The dealership has made several attempts to remedy the problem, but failed. The noise still occurs. Ph

I had the same problem with the engine light coming on. I was also told that battery acid was leaking on the wiring harness that cause the problem. Also chrysler was aware of thisproblem and did not have a recall or let owners know.. They just redesignednewer model to correct this problem at the mercy of their dealers to charge thousands of dollars to make repairs.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the power steering failed without warning. He then pulled over to inspect the vehicle and discovered that the timing chain attachment was fractured and had caused the failure. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where they advised him that a bolt was never attached to the timing chain and because of the stress on the component, the timing chain fractured. The dealer repaired the timing chain casket and gaskets. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 75,600.

Hi, i bought a brand new 2002 chysler town & country minivan and about a week later, i noticed engine ran rough at idle.lately, i noticed the idle became smooth at above 2000 feet elevation, and rough at sea level.i've brought to 3 different dealer services more than dozen of times complaining about this and in the last visit i mentioned about the elevation symptom, they all said they can't fix it.the van is still under bumper to bumper warranty. I would like to know any method to raise my voice. Thank you,

A/c compressor failure - we were on the road for about 1/2 an hour en route from tallahassee to orlando on thanksgiving day, 2006. As we exited onto hwy. 19, we noticed smoke coming from the hood of the car. (later, it was apparent that a belt on the a/c system burned as the compressor locked up.)this was at least the 6th a/c system failure. We had recurring leaks that were "fixed" and recharged numerous times, starting at a macon dealership off i-75 in summer 2003 to a replacement of the rear a/c unit in summer 2006. Last week's compressor failure was the latest in this long series of problems with the a/c, but clearly the most serious as it resulted in considerable smoke and at least the potential for additional damage and danger.

My 2002 and 2001 town and country"s the rear heater steel tube lines rusted out at the bracket just under the passenger floor in front of the rubber tube connection to the rear aluminum tube lines. There is a recall on the 2005 year but chrysler will not honor this on 2001-2004 modelseven though they are the same tubes on the town and country and the dodge caravan for these years. I have a 2001 and a 2002 town and country plus my sister has a 2002 dodge grand caravan with the same problem.i also looked into your other forms for the same problem and there are complaints in 2001,2002,2003, and the recall statement for 2005.this is a common flaw and should be repaired by chrysler and this part re-engineered and the new style part fully installed on my 2001 and 2002 town and country's at no cost to me.

The rear heater lines failed due to corrosion.my van is only 4 years old and is well maintained.i found out today that chrysler issued a recall on 2005 and newer models to replace the heater lines because they will prematurely corrode and leak.however, they will not do anything for me.i had to pay a dealership $540.00 to replace the lines because they failed due to corrosion.

The vehicle stalled without warning.as the consumer pulled into the parking space, the vehicle stalled without warning, then thevehicle was placed in park, restarted, and continued into the parking space.on another occasion the vehicle into reverse, the vehicle stalled without warning, restarted the vehicle, placed in drive and stalled again.there was an intermittent click noise when the pedal is depressed, the a/c fan noise, the suspension felt loose and leaned to left, uneven tire wear, clunk noise in the front end when coming to a stop, when turning, and pulling into a parking space, the tires meet a resistance, the gas pedal vibrated, and there was a groaning noise in the steering wheel and or the engine when turning or when in reverse.the motor mount was installed incorrectly and was repositioned properly.scc

Multiple oil leaks during a 7 month period from 4/02-1/03 for a total of 6 reported times returned to dealership. Dealer has installed several new parts including oil filter adapter o-ring, oil filter adapter, adapter seal, oil cooler (twice), hose to oil cooler/adapter.since 6 reported leaks and last repair on 1/15/03, have noticed 1 or 2 drops of oil on garage floor, but i am not certain it is fixed for good.currently we are in arbitration through the ncds because of this and other repairs repeatedly performed.

Today my chrysler t&c broke down on me. I was very upset that this happened to me it's not even 1 year old yet. I had to leave it at the dealer over the weekend and that is our only vehicle. I tried to get a rental but they wanted to charge me a $50.00 deposit when we would usually pay a $5.00 one not only that, i have a service contract with chrysler and my own auto insurance it's sad to know that i had to find a ride home, and find someone to pick up my kids from school while i was stranded waiting for the tow truck to arrive. I dont think this is fair to me because we paid a pretty penny for all the extra coverage 7yr. Or 7000 miles and to get treated this way...please someone help!! thank you*la

Check engine light keeps coming on. It will turn-off later, and then return. Usually after driving in reverse. Had it repaired at a five-star dealer three times.

While driving at any speed andair conditioner is on engine will shut down. Dealer has inspected severaltimes/ changed sensor/ computer/ module, and still problem still recurring.

(1)events leading up to the failurewe have a 2002 chrysler town and country with approximately 56,000 miles. On 26 october my malfunction/check engine light came on. All routine and recommend maintenance has been done. Due to concerns that it was transmission related, i had it towed to the dealer. They stated the problem was the upstream o2 sensor. The upstream o2 sensor was replaced, the engine controller was updated and the engine controller was updated with the latest software. The vehicle was returned to me on 28 october and the next day the malfunction/check engine light came on again. I returned to the dealer, and was told it was the catalytic converter , which was replaced with my vehicle being returned to me on 01 november. On thursday 10 november, the malfunction/check engine light came on for a third time. (2) failure and its consequences, and the third time the malfunction/check engine light came on, i took it back to the dealer on 11 november. This time i was told it was a torque converter/ transmission issue. This time, i was told the torque converter failed. The transmission was removed and a broken low reverse accumulator snap ring was discovered. This required an overhaul of the transmission and replacement of all seals and clutches, and the replacement of the snap ring. (3) what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available)overall in the last three weeks, on my a 2002 chrysler town and country, the following has been done:1-the upstream o2 sensor was replaced, the engine controller was updated and the engine controller was updated with the latest software.2- the catalytic converter was replaced.3- the transmission was overhauled and all seals and clutches were replaced and the replacement of the snap ring.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.whenever the contact attempts to start the vehicle, it will remain running for a very short time before shutting off.the contact has to turn the vehicle on and off three times before it will completely stop working.the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failure, which occurs once every three days.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 85,000.

The check engine light constantly illuminated, and each time the dealer told the consumer the problem was fixed.

Vehicle would sputter then stall while driving at highway speeds.*phthree attempts were made to resolve the problem with no success.

While driving vehicle would stall out, the problem is intermittent. Contacted dealer.*yd

Enigine noise - high pitched squealing.dealer has replaced the belts, belt tensioner, air conditioner pump, alternator, power steering pump, but the problem continues.this has been going on for over a year!

Exhaust manifoldleak between manifold and head on the front of the engine.cost:$140.15.

Thick white smoke was coming out of the back of the van - it had a burning smell.people on the highway were moving away from us because of it.we brought it to our mechanic and he said that the tubes that feed antifreeze to the back of the van (to heat the back) were all rotted, and leaked antifreeze all over the exhaust.he said it was a result of "poor manufacturing."the car is a 2002 chrysler town & country and only has 30,000 miles on it.the warranty just ran out 2 months ago.

Problems with engine when air conditioner or heater was operative.*mr(nar)the consumer noticed that when the heat or a/c were on the engine strained.the dealer replaced the compressor but that did not alleviate the problem.the consumer also noticed a clicking sound coming form the steering wheel and the steering wheel seemed loose.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the parts were ordered to make the repair.prior to the repairs being made the consumer's son lost control of the vehicle damaging the entire driver's side.the driver indicated that he was attempting to make a right hand turn when he heard a pop and lost control of the vehicle.the steering box was replaced under warranty but a few months later the pop noise returned.

Had to change regulator/motor for the driver's side window in the amount of $250 and now the passenger side window won't go up or down.

Dt*: the contact stated there was a faulty rear shock absorber tie down bracket on the vehicle. This part is an add on for persons with disabilities.the equipment failure occurred twice. The tie down failed could have caused an accident.the first occurrence was in a parking lot and the second was on a roadway.the defective equipment has been repaired which was to revamp the modification, but the contact expressed concerns that the parts should be remodeled.the recommendation was for the part to be placed on the top or rear side of the axle not on the bottom.

The air conditioner no longer works. It went out at less than 50 thousand miles. Smoke came through the vents into the cabin. There was an electrical smell and loud noises. I no longer use the a/c and consequently don't drive the vehicle unless i have to. How can an a/c go out at less than 50 thousand miles? i still consider the vehicle new!

We bought a used 2002 chrysler town and country minivan from a car rental company here in sacramento california.the vin # is [xxx].the vehicle was in excellent condition with about 24,000 miles on it webought it.a couple of months after we bought the vehicle, the abs light went on indicating that the abs brake system and the traction control systems were malfunctioning.we took it into a dealer here in town and they replaced a rear wheel speed sensor.a few months later the abs light came on again and we took it back to the dealer.they checked it out and said the wheel sensor was showing bad again.they replaced the wheel speed sensor again.now it is about 3 weeks after that most recent repair and the abs light came on again.we were on vacation at the time and drove about 1000 miles without abs brakes or traction control as it was inconvenient to take it in while on vacation.i did not receive the old part either time before but i will get it this time.by the way the vehicle is outside of warranty now and chrysler has declined to repair it without charge.we feel this is a safety issue as we are driving for considerable periods of time without 2 important safety features that came with the vehicle; antilock brakes and traction control.we are concerned that they can't seem to get this problem resolved.we are also concerned that others may be experiencing the same problem and it is not getting resolved.this seems to be a defect with the abs system or parts within the abs system of this chrylser model.updated 07/25/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The van was professionally modified straight from factory by independent mobility systems, inc(ims) a company out of business that specialized in these modifications.i previously reported back around early 2006 about a safety problem that i had experienced with the vehicles rear shock-absorber lower tie-down brackets.in my complaint i explained that i had experienced a terrifying incident while traveling at 50 mph the left bracket broke at the weld that connected it to the rear axle, causing the highly pressurized shock-absorber to extendand jammed against the pavement and the axle. This caused the rear of the vehicle to jump and shutter violently and making me stop rapidly.repaired at the cost of $100.00. On this occasion i was in a parking lot and driving over a speed bump when the weld on the right side bracket broke off. Again i towed it to a midasat different location and spent $45.00 on the repair.well this was reported to braun enterprises , a company thatspecializedin these modifications that has taken up warranty and parts issues from ims. Their response was that since the vehicle was past its warranty period they would not be willing to cover the repairs.this resulted in my first report to dot. The reason for my repeating this report wasthat it has happened again to one of the same brackets. This happenedthree times.inmy initial report i stated that the reason i suspected this happened was due to faulty engineering. Since the brackets where located lower than any other partsin the bottom of the vehicleit was probably susceptible to road obstacles. I further suggested that another cause might be due to where the brackets were placed and the manner in which they were mounted that was not sufficient to withstand the pressures of everyday driving.remember these modificationswere done on vehicles that transport people with mobility effected challenges.

Consumer complaint concerning 2002 town and country faulty a/c compressor.the consumer learned that the warranty had been extended by chrysler. When the consumer called to confirm, her claim was denied because the work was done at an independent repair shop. The consumer tried to explain that she didn't receive any type of letter and that someone had actually told her.

The a/c unit failed polluting the entire system with metal pieces. Chrysler replaced the unit under warranty, as well, cleaned out portions of the system. A few days we noticed that the rear ac was not pushing out cold air, only the front ac. Chrysler stated a valve had failed due to the flushing of the system, we argued over costs, agreed to split the cost, total to me, $140. A week later, the a/c unit again failed polluting the complete system. This time chrysler replaced the a/c unit but refused to hook it up to the complete system (front/rear evaporators) until the entire system was replaced, telling us we need to pay $2300 to cover the costs. As it stands now, we have a busted ac system, it cost me $140 for repairs which did nothing, we've had the pain of taking the van to the dealer three times now, and chrysler will not hook up the ac unit until we pay $2300 to replace parts their faulty ac unit corrupted.

During operation of vehicle an unknown object struck air conditioner line, causingline to break and spray fluid over the undercarriage.consumer is concerned that this fluid could contact a hot component, such as exhaust system) and result in a fire becausehydraulic lines have no shielding over them for protection. Dealership is repairing this problem at the owner's expense.please provide any additional information / documentation.

Driving vehicle at appropriate highway speed when noticed what appeared to be a decrease in power and smell of something burning.was running air conditioner at the time the event took place.stopped vehicle, found large plumes of white/gray smoke coming from front of engine bay.allowed engine to ventilate and cool, restarted vehicle, but with hvac system off to prevent fumes from entering cabin.drove short distance home and notified local mechanic of problem.was informed by mechanic that this vehicle was subject to a/c compressor issues, and was a known defect of this particular vehicle.never received a recall notice or offer by manufacturer to have known defect corrected.cost to repair vehicle was over $1400.

The car is 3 years old and we have had significant repairs.the air conditioning condenser failed at 56,000 miles.this year we repeatedly had to take the van in for the engine light.the light will come on for a few days and go off without intervention.at first we were told there was no issue.we brought it in again and were told the fuel pump was leaking and the #5 cylinder was misfiring.not a week later after the repairs, the engine light came on again.this time, we were told that one of the fuel injectors was malfunctioning.this is the worst service record i have ever experienced.

While driving at any speed andair conditioner is on engine will shut down. Dealer has inspected severaltimes/ changed sensor/ computer/ module, and still problem still recurring.

As i was driving my 2002 town & country, i turned the air conditioner on.the car began to smoke and stalled out.i have had the air conditioner replaced 2 times.the van no longer stalls and smokes, but when the a/c is turned on, there is a loud noise and the car jerks.

Engine loses power. Smoke smell fills cabin. Loss of a/c. Cause is a/c compressor locking up. Smoke is from belt spining on pulley. Dealer replaced a/c compressor under an extended warranty by chrysler. Problem seemed resolved. 8 months later same thing happens again. Dealer will not fix because vehicle is now beyond warranty. That vehicle is out of warranty is not disputed, however since chrysler extended the warranty to fix the first time there is obviously a defect in the compressor (or another component causing the compressor to fail) which still existed or it would not have failed the second time. Chrysler however will not replace the second time. This could be a serious defect if this happened to someone who couldn't diagnose the problem and turn off the a/c before the belt either breaks or worse yet catches fire.

The consumer received the radio vent slot recall for his 2002 town and country.the consumer would like to know if there is an alternate solution to this problem which would address the source of the moisture from the a/c duct . The consumer stated he has replaced the factory radio with a high powered aftrmarket dvd/cd player.

Recall campaign:2002 chryslerradio vent slots (code d48).the dealer refused to perform the recall 04v-531000 because an aftermarket radio was installed in the vehicle.

While driving at 65 mph consumer heard pop noise coming from the rear, and suddenly started smelling burning material. The smoke and heavy flames where comingfrom the right speaker. Vehicle was burned to the ground.dealership and manufacturer were notified, and they stated we never heard such a thing. Driverside rear radio speaker caught fire and burnt vehicle to the ground. *tc

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact noticed that the headlights began to flicker intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic stated that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. The vehicle was then taken to a different mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic stated that the front control module and the power module were the cause of the failure and had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 198,000.

Consumer stated that while driving none of the gear lights would light up causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notifiedts

Head lights flicker then go out, then come back on, turn signal goes out, then comes back on...

Headlights and interior lights flicker.

Consumer is concerned that vehicle can be driven with power operated sliding door open. Consumer states that the warning chime and visual warning light were not significant enough for consumer to realize that the sliding door was open, causing consumer to smash into his garage door when parking.

Town and country 2002 has headlights that flicker and go off while the minivan is moving.nhtsa was investigating this in 2005 (associated press, 2.07.2005) and was talking to dailmlerchrysler about this. Traveling in the winter, and the early evening the lights went off suddenly.i was able to flick the switch on the column and make them come back on.took it in for service, but no error codes were found.now last week, traveling at 70 mph, the lights went off numerous times.they do not go off when raining and lights are required during the day; it seems to occur only at high speeds.the lights have the issue of dimming as noted in numerous forums, but this had not caused the lights to go off completely.this vehicle is the one that my 16 year old daughter drives, and it is highly dangerous so no driving can be done after dark at present.called dodge service and they said they had no idea what to do without a code saved.

My lights flicker on and off, replaced battery and alternator.. Not fixed.. Now i have been noticing that the panel behind my headlight switch gets very hot tothe touch. Afraid of a fire... Can't find any info on internet as to what can be the problem.

Headlights cut out intermittently while vehicle is running. Service was performed by dealership on 11-16-2005. Service was performed according to chrysler tsb for this problem. The problem still exists.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.while driving 50 mph, the headlights dimmed without warning.the vehicle was pulled over and the headlights illuminated after one minute.the lights would also flicker occasionally.the dealer installed a front control module, but the failure recurred.the contact verified his vin, but it appears to be invalid.the engine size and number of cylinders were unknown.the failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 82,000.

On it.the contact stated it usually happened whenstartsing the vehicle.the headlightsusually went out when she put the vehicle in reverse.therewere no warning signs or indicator lights on prior to the failure.the contact stated she didnot always know if the head lightswere out unless she saw a reflection.the contact stated she could not recall if the dashlights ever went out during the headlight failures.the contacttook the vehicleto dealer for repairs twice.the contact did not remember when the failures started.

This relates to case ea05009.i have a 2002 chrysler t&c and the lights flicker and dim.they've never gone off.

The vehicle i own, a 2002 chrysler town and country, is just an example of a widespread problem industry wide. Many,if not most cases these days have plastic covers over the headlights. Within a few years, depending on mileage and driving conditions the covers get scratched and more importantly cloudy and discolored. This dramatically reduced the light output and createda safety hazard at night.this would not be so bad if the covers could be readily replaced at nominal cost. But this was not the case.in most cases the entire assembly must be replaced at very high cost. In my case, the costwasin excess of $1000 each. Thus, most people simply will not replace them. I think rules should be in place toforce the use of a longer lasting material, orto force the design to allow replacement at reasonable cost.

Dt: the headlights were flickering, did this all the time. It has done this sinceconsumerbought vehicle which was a month ago around june 17th, 2005. Once they have gotten really dim.wasworried they will go out. Had not contacted dealer.

I am wanting to file a complaint on headlight lens quality/safety. The lens i am referring to are the composite "lexan"lenses used on most vehicles today. After just a few very short years the coating peels and the plastic breaks down causing poor light transfer and very unsafe driving conditions."chrysler"has denied any assistance to replace the lenses on my 2002 vehicle with 62,000 miles stating that it is way beyond any warranty period. I consider this beside the point. We're talking about the safety of millions who rely on safe lighting to operate their vehicles safely. The extreme costs of the lens assemblies makes simply replacing theman unacceptable option. Mine are not yet hazed over on my 2002 but the coating is peeling due to uv breakdown, my 1994 is yellowed and hazed and definitely suffersfrom poor light transmission. I know for a fact that most other manufacturers also have this problem(i am an auto technician)why does the consumer have to always bear the expense of something that is such a safety concern just because the manufacture does not care or wants to sell cheaper grade parts to increase profit. I never had this problem with old glass sealed beams on my older cars and they were just a few dollars compared to hundreds for composites. I feel the govt. Needs to review this condition and make the manufacturers stand behind such an important safety issue .i have literally had hundred of customers complain of this problem over the last 15 years or so. But now it hits homes and it affects me and my family so i figured it was time to make waves, especially after being told by the dist rep they wouldn't help at all .i know the imports also suffer from this hazing problem but i also know they are willing to assist as goodwill repairs, etc.i really feel there should be a recall investigation done concerning this as a safety issue, all personal dissatisfaction aside. That includes all makes/models. Thank you for your time.

Headlightsworked intermittently. Tookvehicle to chrysler , and was told that the headlight switchshorted out, and it had to be replaced. *tc

The consumer stated while driving at night the headlights failed intermittently.*sc the part(s) were on back order according to chrysler.the consumer later learned that chrysler changed suppliers of the switch.the internal shift light and or (the prndl) was erratic, in which it would sometimes be highlighted. *sc

Dt: contact stated the headlightswere not working properly.they intermittently shut off while driving.after a short period of time the headlights came back on.the dealer replaced the multi-function switch, but this repair did not fix the problem.the manufacturer has been contacted. There is currently an open investigation for the headlights on this model vehicle. Updated 11/29/05.

The headlights go out while driving at night. Consumer would have to hold the light switch to keep the headlights on.dealer was notified, and replaced the light switch.

Headlamps fail while driving at night.sometimes flicker and come back on.we don't drive much at night, we have owned this van for about 3 months.we have driven it 5 or 6 times at night, and we have had headlight failure 3 times. After the 2nd incident, we took it back to the dealer.they said they couldn't find the problem, but they flashed the vehicle computer memory.the first two times we had the problem, the lights flickered and came back on. The last time we had the problem, the lights went on/off several times (3 or 4) in a span of about 5 minutes.i also noticed that the switch inside the vehicle is getting hot during headlight operation.

Dt*:the contact stated the taillights are filling with water.the dealership determined the taillight assembly needs to be replaced.

Turn signals malfunctioned.when turning on left turn signal, right turn signal would come on instead.took vehicle to dealership and weren't able to find the problem.*la*mr

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 40 mph, there was a small amount of play in the steering wheel.then, during a left turn, the vehicle lost power assist steering.this was followed by the turn signal switch not returning to the neutral position.the vehicle was not taken in for service.the consumer stated while making a left turn the wheel locked. The consumer stated the vehicle is currently at the repair shop. Updated 09/11/07

A one week ago, myleft turn signal would not shut off after making a left turn. I have to shut it off manually. Within a couple of days it started making a clicking noise before i could get it in to be fixed. Tonight i was driving the car, making a left turn and as the steering wheel was returning to the straight position (before the wheels were straight) it locked in a left turn position and would not release. The car kept turning to the left and i had to force the steering wheel to the right.finally after jerking the steering wheel to the right it released and went back to a straight position. Something in the turn signal locked it up and would not allow the steering wheel to fully release after making a left turn. After that the right turn signal will not shut off. Luckily nobody was in the lane to my left or else i could have hit them. I am now afraid to drive the car until i get it fixed.

While driving there is a gas smell in the cab. Gas leaking out as fast as one pumps it in.consumer is concerned about a fire. Please provide any further information.

Engine check light would remain on while driving. Vehicle taken todealer, and they informed consumer that there was a crack infuel system, and it needed to be replaced. Feel free to provide any further information.

We purchased a 2002 chrysler town & country with 22000 miles on it in november 2003.since then we have had it in the service department 6 times for multiple problems.we first reported a vibration in the front end and a clicking/knocking noise when turning the steering to the right.the dealer service dept. Replaced the sway bar links and bushings and could not "duplicate" the vibration problem. We took it back again 3 more time for the vibration problem until they finally replacced all 4 tires.it stiil has a vibration to this day.in between all of these visits we had it in for a fuel smell thet filled the entire house when parked in the garage. The replaced the fuel rail and o-rings.still have a gas smell when the tank is full.also had is back in for a steering problem after they did recall work on the power steering lines that did not get done while on the lot.when we took it back in the power steering rack siezed up in the parking lot at the dealer.they replaced the rack and pinion steering box.now we just had to take it back again for a clicking noise in the front.they replaced the sway bar links and bushings again.they van currently has 26000 miles on it.after we purchased the van i did some research and found out that it was a rental vehicle before it was actioned to the dealer that we went to.the dealer did not divulge this information to us before signing the deal.they had the van for a total of 3 weeks for the first 2 months that we had it.things were going well until it all started over again with the sway bar.

Engine surges and cuts out between 40 and 60 mph. On occasion it stops running. Ts

Consumer brought vehicle in because the engine light had illuminated.the cause was a leak in the pump.*jg

While filling up gas tank consumer noticed gas leaking onto the ground. Tookvehicle to dealer, and theystated that rolling valve separated from fuel tank. Fuel tank needed to bereplaced.please provide any further information.

Chrysler town & country 2002.at 20000 miles recalled for replacement of gas tank control valve seal (b25).now leaking @ gas tank rollover valve causing van to fill with gas fumes.dealership considers our problem though clearly in a 2002 vehicle with 57,119 miles with previous gas tank issues - one would consider perhaps a much greater problem with gas tank - certainly a serious safety risk.

Dealer told me nothing wrong with the car, sold me the car and let us drive it off the lot without performing a stop sale recall work.i don't want the vehicle.i would not have bought it if i had been informed the recall work had not been done.the recall was issued in october 2002, almost a year ago.the recall work has not been done.i do not feel safe in the vehicle and do not want to endanger me, my wife, or anyone else on the road by driving it anywhere, including the dealer whom i do not trust due to this and incidents that have happened since purchase.i cannot fit a detailed description of events due to limited character space in the on-line submittal.subject:illegal transaction and misrepresentation by archer motors; vehicle vin [xxx]ref. Consumer contacted dealer regarding appointment for recall remedy 02v274000.while on the phone, dealer advised consumer that they could not find personal vehicle file, and then asked if vehicle was purchased from dealership.when consumer advised no, the dealer replied that he would not have any appointments available until 07/24/03.

Contact states that fuel injection wiring harness failed at 127,800 miles due to melting and disintegration of insulation inside injector wiring harness. Vehicle lost power and driver was forced to seek assistance. Property damage to vehicle due to misfiring and engine overheating resulted in repair bills over $2,200 for new head gasket installation, replacement of fuel injection wiring harness and ecm. Repairs corrected electrical problems.seeking recall on chrysler injector wiring harness at fault on many of these vehicles.

I have talked to someone about a couple of months ago at the chrysler dealer call center and have complained about my rear tire locking up and brakes has been changed twice in one year and when they lock up only on that rear tire it starts to smoke and smell like the rubber is burning and my other complaint that started yesterday july 24,2010 i was returning home and pulling off from where i was parked as i was pushing the gas for acceleration is was hesitation like it wasn't getting the gas. Then as i proceeded to continue to accelerate it continuously done the same thing like it was going to cut off. I was at the stop light in a city area and it had major hesitation and it was dangerous and very frightening. Just imagine a car not going when the gas is pushed and you got a big trucker behind you those people in other cars don't know what is going on with you they are not going to slow down and may cause an accident.

Strong smell of gas filling up vehicle while driving.strong smell of gas also occurs outside of vehicle filling up parked enclosure when vehicle was running.inspection determined fuel rail leak.repairs included replacement rail and fuel injector o-rings.similar complaints on file.

Rear fuel tank retention strap broke and noticed front strap has imminent failure due to rusting.if the front strap broke the plastic tank would drag on the ground causing a hole in the fuel tank and ignition of fuel tank and vehicle and loss of life.all vehicles like this need inspection and repair as soon as possible.

Tipm fuel issues.why is there not a recall on this issue? this issue has left my family without a vehicle. Why has been addressed and repaired? i dont have 1000. For a new fuse box. And just about everything to keepthe vehicle running is new.the fuel pump, the fuel filter, the power steering pump water pump tcm , the crankshaft sensor all are new with spark plugs wires and tune up. So whywon't my 2002 chrysler town & country start? i am ask you to replace this for free or give me another vehicle at no cost. My vehicle is fully paid for and i don't want to hear that it is due to age. There are many vehicles with this same issue with less mile.

Severe gasoline odor from under the whole car. Noticed the gasoline leak from the side of the gasoline tank where the white plastic connector was welded to a black plastic gas tank.. We noticed the gasoline odor while we are in a house. Gasoline was leaking from the gasket between the gas tank and white plastic attachment assembly.

Defect # 1951- engine families-2crxt0382d0. Emission problem- due to an over- temperature weld condition the control system may separate from the tank assembly. This could result in a possible fuel leak.currently, engine light is on.

A month after we boughtit stop running would start do anything its been just sitting int he yard sincewe checked fuel pumpput new one in nope that wasn't it we have checked everything .now our friend hins its the head gasketim sorrybutwe just gotthe van in july to only drive itfor2weekscan you help

The manual door lock on the sliding door will not unlock. Both automatically or manually. It does this intermittently. My van is a wheelchair van and the sliding door is my only means of exit. I had a wheelchair van mechanic take the whole locking mechanism apart and he discovered there was a flaw in the design of the door actuator. He made a modification and it worked. This is a big problem in all year models of the chrysler town & country vans. In an emergency situation, there is no way of opening the door. The manual lock sticks in the locked position and will not release, even under force. Chrysler is well aware of this problem. Chrysler could at least address the problem and make a retrofit part for these doors.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the passenger's side sliding door would not unlock manually or automatically. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000. The current mileage was approximately 160,200.

I have a 2002 chrysler town and country van and come to find that the passenger sliding door is unable to open at all. I tried to disconnect the battery and open it, nothing works, it is locked so tight the door will not unlock.

Sliding door locks fail to operate remotely.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The right rear passenger side door was locked tight and could not be opened manually or with the electronic key. While removing a bike rack from the trunk of my 2002 town & country mini van, my hand slipped shutting and trapping the fingers on my right hand in the door jam.since my fingers were in the way, the trunk wouldn't shut securely and therefore, the trunk release would not work.when i tried to open the trunk with my left hand, it just dinged at me three times and stayed tight on my hand.my fingers quickly began loosing feeling.seeing as i had no adults available to assist, i started trying to pull my hand out as my daughter called 911.the ring on my right hand was keeping the trunk opened just barely far enough where i could pull my hand out, but in doing so i managed to scrape a large portion of skin off one of my fingers and my knuckles were bleeding.if it hadn't been for that ring, i am certain i would have needed the paramedic' assistance to break open the door.this would have left me trapped for at least 5 more minutes.as it is, my index finger has been numb for three days.by the grace of god, i only suffered this temporary numbness and minor scratches.i am deeply concerned for my children's safety as it would have crushed their little hands.you would think a 2002 model would have the safety feature that would detect an obstruction and not close or at least be able to reopen immediately.very concerning.

Rh side door intermittently fails to open.it was repaired under warranty at 30861 miles.now failing again.dealer says over $400 to repair.i believe this is a safety issue since the door becomes nearly impossible to open and does not close properly after it fails to open electrically.i believe that chrysler needs to repair it properly, or have a safety recall on this defective mechanism.

Prior to 15k miles, rear hatch on van will not open.bounced back and forth between several dealers and never repaired.# years and 60k miles later, chrysler says the warranty is expired and that they are not liable.all complaints and reair attempts are documented.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that intermittently the rear driver side door opens.as a consequence her child could exit the vehicle while in motion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technicians were unable to identify the cause of the failure. She is in the process of contacting the manufacturer. The failure and current mileages were 85600. Bl

I own a 2002 chrysler town & country limited, i feel that the door lock symbol on the driver and passenger doors is a security and safety issue, when you lock the doors the button is pushed down, to unlock the doors you push the button up. The door lock symbol is above the button: it reads: lock, a person could be in a personal, security, and safety situation, wanting to lock the doors, and was in a panicky situation, and wanted to lock the doors would push the button up because the lock symbol is on the top of the button, but instead they would be unlocking the doors. I have contacted chrysler daimler on june 20, 03,they gave me a refrence number: 11372235, never heard from them again, contacted them again, and still have not heard from them. I feel that they should change the lock symbol above the button, and place it below the button. I also own a 2002 dodge, class b van/camper and the lock symbol is in the proper position, below the lock & unlock door button. I have recently retired from the new bedford, ma police department, served 38 1/2 years, and i feel that a woman entering her vehicle in a shopping center, and was approached by an individual who was going to car jack her vehicle, this woman being in a panick situation thinking she is locking her vehicle because she sees the lock symbol above the door lock/unlock button pushes the button up would be instead unlocking her doors.

Dt:caller's son was getting out of van and without warning the automatic door closed on his head. Caller said it took a lot of force to get the door to open. The more she pushed the harder it was to opendoor. She believed her son was unable to set off sensor to stop door. Her son was almost 4 years old ,and was a bit shook up.ui

Aprox. 4 miles into my commute the automatic sliding door on passenger side of the vehicleopened and closed by itself while driving at a rate of 35mph. No warning alarms had gone off to indicate the door was not properly closed.

I have taken my tc limitedin for repair for the left side sliding door for the 5th time, and each time i take it in for repair the same thing is wrong with it motor replacement!!! this is an issue that really needs to be taken care of. If anyone has any information on what i can do since this is the 5th time with the same problem please let me know.

The power sliding doors operate erratically. Sometimes they act like something is in the way and the door reverses direction. This occurred recently and my daughter's foot was smashed by the door. It did not require a doctor's visit but her foot was bruised. We took the vehicle to the delaership and they said that there were no error codes. They said they contacted chrysler hq and they said if there are no codes then there is nothing they can do. There are other times when the sliding doors are closing and the ignition key is turned (to start the engine) the doors reverse direction. There have been other times where the door started to open but then stopped and had to be closed manually. This happened four times in a row but when taken into the delaership they said there was no code so they couldn't do anything. The last time the car was in the shop the service technician said the chrysler tech support told them to reset all the modules even though there was no code indicating a problem. We know this is a problem since these symptoms just starting happening in the past few months. The dealership keeps telling us that they know something is wrong but without a code there is nothing they can do.

Dt: the contact stated the sliding passenger door ofvan closed onthe contact'sleg.heopened the door remotely, and while it was opening, his shoulder bumped the door, causing the door to reverse.the cause of this incidentwas unknown because no contact has been made with the dealer or manufacturer. As a result of this incident he sustained minor injuries.

I own a 2002 chrysler town & country limited, i feel that the door lock symbol on the driver and passenger doors is a security and safety issue, when you lock the doors the button is pushed down, to unlock the doors you push up.the door lock symbol on the 2002 chrysler town & country limited is above the button: it reads: lock, a person who could be in a personal, security, and safety situation, wanting to lock the door, and was in a panicky situation and wanted to lock the doors would push the button up because the lock symbol is on the top, but instead they are unlocking the doors.i also own a 2002 dodge class b van/camper, and the door lock symbol is below the button, so you know when you look at the door lock symbol, and you push the button down towards lock, the doors are locked. Did contact daimler chrysler in june 2003, and on june 20, 2003, received a reply from an individual called glenn who stated that my thoughts would be passed along to their vehicle safety department, he also forwarded a reference # 11372235, to date i have not heard from daimler chrysleri believe that an individual being in a situation requiring them to quickly locking the doors, and being in a chrysler town & country quickly looking at the door lock could possibly push the button up thinking the doors are going to lock as the symbol for lock is on the top, but the doors are going to be unlocked.i feel that daimlerchrysler should take action and change the symbol for the door lock, would appreciate your investigating this.

Rear hatch latch, subject of a previous safety recall is failing.when the open button is pushed, the latch opens part way and remains like that.dealer wants hundreds of dollars to repair it.i have not authorized that repair since i believe as a previously defective and recalled part, it should be repaired at no cost to me.

The automatic rear liftgate fails to open with key phob.the door locking mechanism must be played with by inserting the key in order to get the locks to function.this occurs mostly when temperature is below 45 degrees.the dealership stated that the rear latch needs to be replaced. The consumer was informed that chrysler had replaced numerous rear latches. *sc

While the vehicle is in motion, the rear hatch opens. The car is equipped with a power liftgate. This occurred twice during one trip today. Once with the door closed via the power mechanism, and again after closing the door manually. It had previously occurred once before, about 2 years previous.

2002 town and county lxisometimes liftgate will not open with power button, remote control, nor manually.a dinging/bell noise occurs when it fails.sometimes power sliding door will not close with power button nor remote control.door begins process to close and before it latches, it kicks back open.i purchased this vehicle in 2004 from my parents who purchased it new from the dealer.they had the same problems from time of purchase, but the dealer could never get it to duplicate the problem.it seems to be reoccurring and happening more often.incident date and failures only reflect my experiences, not my parents.incident date is only for the first, because there have been many.i would like to take my vehicle in and have this failure/problem resolved, but wanted to find out about other complaints, since there has not been a recall.i did read about another investigation concerning a similar problem with the liftgate.

Tailgate will open while driving, automatic system will close tailgate, butintermittently will not latch it. No ajar warning light.the latch pre-engaged before the tailgate was closed preventing it from closing.dealer re-programmed the tailgate and the problem appears to be corrected.

I was driving on the hwy and my brake engaged not sure if it was the e-brake or reg brake it jerked the car forward and the brake light came on and as fast it happened it corrected itself and the light went out. I called the place i bought it and answer was bring it back and i will refund your money, i have already paid out a good deal just registering and sales tax what do i do.

Consumer applied the parking brake and itfailed to hold.consumerdrove the vehicleto the dealer for inspection, andmechanic acknowledged that there was a problem, but could not duplicate the problem.

I bought a chrysler town and country and the transmission shifts hard into 2nd gear.after the 4th time to the dealer and transmission specialist the transmission specialist finally took the van to auto west dodge.auto west dodge said they have a history on the vehicle from the previous owner and as of now there is no fix for the transmission, because it is a computer problem not a mechanical problem.i still have the problem and they say i am going to have to wait for a fix. The shifting occurs every time i drive the car.the transmission specialist has rebuild the transmission, but can not fix the computer and auto west dodge said they can not fix the computer at this time either.

So whywon't my 2002 chrysler town & country start? i am ask you to replace this for free or give me another vehicle at no cost. My vehicle is fully paid for and i don't want to hear that it is due to age. There are many vehicles with this same issue with less mile.

*sc

Check engine light keeps coming on. It will turn-off later, and then return. Usually after driving in reverse. Had it repaired at a five-star dealer three times.

*scc

Transmission issues since we bought it. Last issue currently has not been resolved.

Planetaries destroyed in transmission and required replacement replaced transmission assembly with remanufactured unittotal cost: $2582.70left us stranded approximately forty miles from home.

Bought 2002 t&c ex used from chrysler dealer in xenia, ohio.all maintenance done by same dealership.car has 52,000 miles on it.after getting home from vacation transmission suddenly died - no warning.mechanic found 9 codes and one that referenced no hydraulic pressure.they checked the transmission filter and found it to be clean - transmission failed with less than 65k miles on it.transmission fluid was a proper levels and was not burnt in any way - still a nice red color.replaced transmission with a jasper reman with 3 yr/75k miles warranty and that transmission just failed with less than 20,000 miles on it while 60+ miles form home with both of our kids in the car. Luckily we were able to get the car to our destination and not stranded on the highway.this time 3rd gear apparently died and our mechanic mentioned that this is a popular transmission and very popular for failing.

The transmission went out on my 2002 chrysler town & country mini van as we were driving on the freeway. The van had only 51,700 miles on it! i had it towed to the nearest dealership, and they wanted $4,000 to fix it. I called chrysler to ask if they would cover the cost of the repair since the mileage was so low, but they refused to help me because the warranty was up. I had it fixed at a transmission shop where they rebuilt the transmission. I don't have the old parts available. There must be a defect in the transmission, or some kind of "weak" parts for it to go out at such low mileage. I do regular maintenance on the van, i change the oil every 3,000 miles, and even did the 30,000 miles service that was highly recommended by the dealership!

Lincoln town and country would stall when shifting. *mr around 1k miles the vehicle had become hard to shift and would stall.the consumer had taken the vehicle for a recall and felt it was a mistake because the vehicle did not run the same since.on a few occasions moisture filled the vehicle as far back as the middle seats.when the vehicle stopped in the street or at idle it seemed as if the timing was slow.the vehicle was shifted into neutral and smoothed out.the consumer also heard a noise in the motor which turned about 1700-1750 rpm's, and a loud sound had come from the engine area.(the noise had become intermittent)while traveling, the consumer viewed smoke and or steam in which they were unsure of where it was coming from but when they looked under the hood everything looked fine.the dealer was unable to fix the problem.the consumer thought that something was wrong with the a/c but not sure because of other noises.the vehicle also needed a muffler and a resonator. *scc

- the contact has a 2002 minivan caravan.the contact stated that when she put the car in reverse or tried to switch gears, the vehicle wouldn't move.she took her vehicle to a dealer for service on 11/24/2006, and it passed there 16 point vehicle check.the contact stated that on 01/04/2007 the car wouldn't switch into gears and she took the vehicle have the transmission repaired because she believed that the failure involved the transmission.the contact was told that the transmission needed to be fixed, and then told that she needed a new transmission.when the contact picked up her vehicle it had not been repaired.after telling the contact that she would receive a new transmission, the contact received a rebuilt transmission.the vehicle still didn't work properly, the dealer told the contact that they were not equipped to repair her vehicle.she has still not found someone who could repair the vehicle properly.

Transmission failed at 66,000 miles in the middle of the highway.front wheels locked up and was unable to roll into neutral.the wheels gave, after prayer, and the vehicle was able to be rolled to the shoulder.wheels locked up again once the vehicle was on the shoulder.vehicle was towed to the nearest chrysler dealership.was told it would be necessary to replace transmission.it will cost $3200.chrysler refuses to grant a "goodwill repair" even though it's due to a technical failure and not a wear and tear or poor service failure.i am in the process of sending a complaint letter to daimler-chrysler, fox 5 news, and the center for auto safety. *la

41te transmission failure at highway speeds.potential for accident, luckily none occurred in this instance.car/occupants left stranded in lane of travel.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town & country. While driving at 55 mph, the contact noticed that the vehicle would no longer accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the transmission was replaced. However, 6miles after the repair the same failure occurred. Prior to the failure, the contact had the transmission flushed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 96,000.

Transmission failed at 38,048, car had to be towed, as it was a sat, before a trip we took it to a transmission shop, hoping it was a simple fix from the codes. The transmission had to be rebuilt but i felt it qualified for "if you have an emergency and you have to get a repair from other than an authorized dealer...", chrysler said this only is for things like batteries or water pumps even though these little details are not stated in the 7 year/ 70,000 mile warranty. In a rudephone message i was told, (after appealing to chrysler for reimbursement under warranty), that they would pay $1.000 and that was there final offer and that the van was not under warranty, which it is. I hate this car and if we did not have it equipped with hand controls and a scooter lift for my husband(part of the need for a immediate repair) i would sale it. It was also in 4 times for the non-functioning automatic passenger door latch; to have a battery replaced(29,583 miles);fuel tank; power steering hose;and it still makes a rubbing sound at low speeds that they have never been able to identify(in 2x for that noise).i think chrysler should honor their warranty but i feel at a loss to fight them. I will try to let it be known where i can the details of the situation.

I bought a 2002 chrysler town & country in august, 2002.in october, 2002, i had to return vehicle to the dealership because i was having problems with the transmission.they told me it was a computer problem.the transmission did fine until around the middle of 2003 when i noticed the transmission problem again.the car was taken back to the dealership in july 2002, and the transmission had to be over hauled.they would not put in a new transmission.something about the 70% rule.i picked up the car on 8/30/03 from the dealership and the car is running ok now.i am just wondering if other people have had transmission problems on this vehicle.

Transmission downshifts hard.transmission does not always go into reverse gear when in park.dealership unable to fix it at this time.am told it is a computer program error.

While driving 60 mph the vehicle started to slow down, while accelerator was applied.vehicle was towed to dealer who determined the transmission needed to be replaced. Ts

2002 tc minivan driving on freeway and transmission stopped.hit gas but won't move. Towed to dealer.33,000 miles, 16 mos .also, power side door and tailgate will not open with buttons, at first only when cold but now never works. Needed front and rear brakes at 25,000 miles, rear still makes grinding noise.

Brakes squeak while driving at any speed. Dealerreplaced the brakes twice, but the squeaking noise could still be heard.also, when the automatic transmission was shifted into reversevehicle rolleed forward.

Our 2002 chrysler town and country with 30,000 miles on it began having problems with the power steering in december of 2005.the check engine light came on february 2006 so we brought the van into a chrysler service shop.we were informed that the seal to the power steering fluid was leaking so we had to replace the entire steering rack.the check engine light indicated there was an internal transmission problem.after tearing the transmission apart they found that the torque converter needed replacement as well as the seals on the internal clutches.this vehicle only has 30,008 miles on it.we were forced to pay the entire $3183.89 to fix it.it was a poorly built vehicle with faulty parts.we areupset that chrysler can not tell us why a vehicle with so few miles needs all these major replacement parts and will not take any responsibility or stand behind this vehicle.

While drivingcheck engine light came on, and a gear shift light illuminated. When this occurred automatic transmission failed to shift out of second gear.dealership performed a drb test, in which the failure code found wasa low voltage battery and loose cable. The cable was tightened. Then, dealership test drove the van. No other problem was found.the failure recurred within 2,347 miles.dealership test drove the van for 15 miles, and found no problems. Also, the abs light cameon and stayed on. Dealershipreplaced the abs sensor 3 times.

*sc

The transmission failed suddenly. While at a stop sign the town & country van stopped moving. The rpm's went up while pressing the gas, but the van did not move. After further investigation by a technician it was determined that it was related to the transmission. Because of the cost to fix the van, as of 08/15/05, the van is still parked. Someone please help!

Transmission will disengage intermittently.

Continuing problem of vehicle not going into reverse and bogging down at highway speeds, have taken to dealer twice and they have not been able to duplicate problem.

While driving at 75 mph the car stalled out and would not run.had it towed to the dealership and the transmission has to be replaced.the car is only 3 years old!

Dt*:the contact stated that while backing out of a parking space, the power steering failed, requiring additional effort to turn the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to duplicate or determine the problem.the raack and pinion was replaced and the transmission had a leak. Updated 03/20/07.

Vehicle experienced sudden engine stalling while on the road. Vehicle was then no longer able to start, and was taken to a dealer. Result showed that the body and transmission control module needed to be replaced.

1.3rd replacement of clockspring in air bag system (at dealer right now)2. Transmission coolant lines rusted out resulting in loss of transmission fluid to transmission and vehicle while driving.

A knocking sound has appeared again in the front suspension.about 18 months ago, a similar symptom appeared.after repeated repairs (tie-rod ends, for example), the dealer finally discovered that the front left cv 1/2 axle was defective.replacement cured the problem.apparently the same problem now happening again.a knocking sound is apparent during low speed travel on a street with slight variations.this seems to be slow enough to hear it.there is also a knock when deliberately swinging the steering wheel from side to side.i will continue to pursue remedying this repeated problem with my 2002 town and country minivan.

The seat belt unfastened while the vehicle was in motion, and there was no indication of a problem.

Dt*: the contact stated both middle row seat belts intermittently come unlocked.when the seat belt is buckled there is not an audible click.the seat belt becomes unlocked without warning and is free of debris.the dealership has been alerted. Updated 05/04/06.

Generation 3 seat belts may be dangerous.

*sc

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that the plastic seat belt cover became detached from the seat belt. In addition, the adjustable upper shoulder belt anchorage had three cracks. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 175,000.

Based upon the reported safety defects with the gen 3 seatbelts when can he nhtsa to do something or will we have to wait for more people to dielike with firestonebefore something is done.

I would like to see diamler chrysler recall the gen3 safety belts installed in their vehicles.i currently drive a 2002 town and country van with these belts securing my 2 children.

Airbag light keeps coming on while driving. Dealerkeeps telling me it is fixed.passenger slider keeps sticking when cold, it does not open by remote.child seat belt has had to be replaced, and still does not latch well.

Rear seat belt latch around child car seat will mysteriously unbuckle.proper installation of the car seat has been verified several times but latch seems to unbuckle after normal movement of my child in the seat.my research into this issue revealed that chrysler installed gen iii latches in the rear of our van even though there is evidence showing that they are unsafe.this is a very frightening situation and i will be contacting the dealer to try and negotiate replacement of all rear seat latches in this vehicle.i hope that these latches will be recalled before someone else gets injured.

The seat belts in my 2002 chrysler town and country have come undone 4 times in the rear seat while enduring normal driving conditions.i now have an infant in the seat and it is very visual how the infant seat could hit the restraint latch in the seat belt in normal driving conditions or in an impact. *nlm

It has come to my attention that "generation 3"seat belts may release accidentally in a crash.i unfortunately have these in my car where my three kids sit. It amazes me how little pressure it takes to release these belts and how exposed the buttons are.i can see why it would very easily come undone if bumped by something or someone in a crash.

02 chrysler town and country was rear-ended by another vehicle.drive seat back complapsed, ejecting driver of town & country to rear of van.

2002 chrysler town and country is supposed to be equipped with the latch system in "all rear seating positions".this system (including the tethers) are not present on the 3-passenger seat in this vehicle.the same is true for most of the 2003 town and country vans in the lot of my car dealer.

When the vehicle hit a bump the 2nd row captains chair became unlatched from the track and came forward.on one occasion the seat was occupied by a child when this occurred and the child sustained minor facial injuries the child's face. *nlm

Driver's motorized power seat will pop onbottom, possibly where the seat back joins seat bottom.seat bottom has a slight movement.manufacturer has issued a tsb and van has been in the dealership 7 times with problem not remedied.please describe details.ak

Dt: the contact stated on 5-7-05vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle going approximately 50 mph. The contact was sitting still in his vehicle at this time. The vehicle was totaled by the accident. The passenger's sideanddriver's side seats fell backward. He did not havepictures of the seats. His wife, a passenger in the vehicle, hit her right shoulder and arm on the door post of the van. The day after the accident her arm was black.also, the contacthit his head on a cooler, and his hands were tightly gripping the steering wheel. He had a compression injury between his thumb andfingers on his left and right hands. The contact called chrysler on5-15-05. Someone came out to inspect the van. On this same day chrysler wrote him a letter stating that the seats did what they weredesigned to do , and they were not responsible.the contact stated that if hisgrand childwas in the back seat at this time he would have been a fatality.

The mid row passenger side seat flipped forward while occupied. As a result, the occupant smashed his head on the back of another seat.

I own a 2002 chrysler town & country lxi mini van.the problem i have noticed is with the passenger seats (second row).they are buckets (not bench) and can swivel forward to allow access to the third row.in order to place the seat back into position after a person has entered or exited the vehicle, you must slam the seat back into the floor.if this is not done however, the seat appears to go back into place.if you are not experienced with this, the seat does not lock back into the floor.approximately one and a half years ago, my mother entered the back seat and then pulled the second row seat back, to where she thought it was in place.my 2 year old daughter was then placed into the car seat in that second row seat.we drove away in the parking lot but at the first stop with brakes that seat slammed forward, crushing my daughter's face into the hard plastic seat in front of her.there is also a sort of hard plastic handle on that front seat that is right at cheek level.my daughter fortunately came away with a bruised cheek and black eye, but i felt very lucky that she did not fracture any of her facial bones.we have been very careful since, but just 2 weeks ago, this happened again, this time with my two year old son.again, someone who did not realize how hard you must slam the seat down to get it to lock into place got into the back seat.again, at the first stop, my son slammed forward in his car seat, crushing his face into the front seat.he too came away with a black eye and again we felt fortunate that there was no other injury.i simply wanted to report this hazard, hoping that chrysler will think about the design of these seats.the seats should not be able to appear in normal position without being locked.

Over the last four years i have experienced several instances of partial front brake application when no driver input is initiated.this results in the feeling of the car dragging.it is subtle but if the car is put into neutral the car comes to a stop even with no driver brake input.in several instances the front brakes get extremely hot and begin to smoke.this is a serious fire hazard.after allowing the brakes to cool for about an hour the brakes return to normal and driving can resume.i have taken the car several times to the chrysler dealer and other mechanics.they can find nothing wrong.there does not seem to be any recalls or alerts concerning this problem.i would estimate that this problem has occurred about seven or eight times, the most recent one on july 8, 2017.weather does not seem to be a factor nor does highway or local driving.

Loss of brak power, pedal travels to floor.; after replacing master cylinder, caliper on the left front.. Must re-bleed left front** only . Must performe this procedureevery 2 weeks...andthis is a frequent occurence on left front wheel.the only option is to replace theoriginal abs hydraulic unit? why wasthis not arecall, it seems lot of owners of 2002 have had this problem..,it'sonly the left front wheel that has this problem, after bleeding, the brakes last only few weeks and same thing, brake pedal is spongy and travels to the floor. And must re-bleed left front wheel. It seems that there is a lot of very minute boubles.## vin passed ##chrysler truck 2002, town & contry,2002 3.3 l ##

When slowly pulling into a parking space (my foot was on the brake) with approximately two to one foot to complete this action, there was a tremendous surge of energy that drove the car forward into a building leaving a hole in the brick wall and broken windows. The air bags were released, but the bag on the driver's side got stuck in the steering wheel.usaa is my insurance company, and they trashed the car because the replacement of the bags was too expensive. ....(?)fortunately, this didn't happen on the highway.

Abs system including wheel sensor failed. Abs was deactivated. Chrysler has proposed replacing abs module and wheel sensor at my expense. Repairs not yet performed.

While parked on a flat surface vehicle shifted into drive hitting railroad crossing. Dealer notified.ts

Brakes squeak while driving at any speed. Dealerreplaced the brakes twice, but the squeaking noise could still be heard.also, when the automatic transmission was shifted into reversevehicle rolleed forward.

The brake light illuminated.on the same day a grinding noise was heard. Mechanic which replaced the front rotors and brake pads.

At 28,00 miles it was necessary to replace all rotors and brake pads.this is way too soon for this type of repair.

Three warning lights came on simultaneously - brake, abs and traction control off.although no accident has occurred, we felt if prudent to notify you since you have an investigation underway regarding an earlier model of chrysler mini-vans with the same symptoms that have resulted in accidents due to complete braking failure.we believe the goal is to prevent an accident from happening before the failure.

Dt: consumer stated the left rear speed sensor malfunctioned 4 times and it caused the abs to become ineffective.the abs lightcame on . The regular brakes worked when this happened, just not the abs.the vanhas 47,500 miles on it. She bought the van brand new, and 4 different dealershipsrepaired the vehicle. One of the dealerships said it was very rare for speed sensorsto go out.the mechanic at warner robinstold her that chrysler engineers were aware there was a problem with the speed sensor, andwere working on it. She spoke to chrysler twice about this problem.they said they would give her a one time $50.00 charge to fix it. She did get it fixed and paid the $50.00. She felt this was a safety issue because she did not have abs. Updated 11/29/05.

Whiledriving 50 mph the abs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the speed sensor needed to be replaced, and replaced it. However, the problem recurred.

Consumer complained about braking problems.it was discovered that the pads and rotors were warped. Dealership had the vehicle for several days , and did not repair it. Consume r stated that the warning lights never came on, and when it was discovered, all the brakes were worn out. Yet, there was no warning that the brakes needed servicing.

*scc

Premature brake component wear on chrysler mini-van. Brakes have been noisey since 2000 miles, multiple trips to dealer for repairs finally noise progressed to harsh grinding @ 20,000 miles. Dealer replaced pads and claims this is abnormal but nothing he can do about it. I have never had a vehicle require brakes so soon, never had a vehicle which made so much brake noise after only 2000 miles. My complaint is that the braking system is not designed to handle the vehicle weight under normal operating conditions. This could result in a serious accident if not resolved.

2002 chrysler t&c lx minivan need new rotors after only 15,000 miles!rotors are warped.chrysler say not covered under thier highly advertised 7 year warranty.noise started around 10,000 mile & has gotten worse.brakes were squeaky since we got the van in dec of 2001.our 1999 t&c minivan never needed brakes pads or rotors.my 1992 honda civic with 200,000 miles has never need new rotors.

Vehicle in service 11/02.at 12,000 miles one rotor replaced under warranty due to brake pulsation.at 15,000 miles brakes squealed when applied at slow speeds (good pads). Light brake pulsation started at 24,000 miles.rotors turned at 33,350 miles due to heavy brake pulsation in steering wheel.at 35,787 was told both front rotors needed to be replaced as they were warped.have owned two previous disk brake chrysler products and had poor performance in reference to pulsating brakes that i have not had from gm or ford products.friends that have chrylser vehicles have same brake pulsation problem.contacted chrysler customer service and asked to speak to a supervisor and was denied.chrysler complaint # 11578986.would not assist at all in resolving issue with brakes.

Oncethe recall workwas done the vehicle started vibrating and making a humming noise.thecontact took the vehicle back to the dealer, and the vehicle was diagnosed as needing a new power steering rack.the contact informed the dealer that he did not have any problems with the vehicle until the recall work was performed.the dealer refused to replace the power steering rack at no charge. The failure mileage was 90000, and the current mileage was 97000.the power steering hose was replaced

I just started having this steering problem/shuddering and i did some research and found the following: 5- 'technical service bulletins' on this website. If this has been a problem since dec 2001, why was i not notified by aug 2003 to have the issue fixed (while i was still within my 36,000 mile warranty). When i called the dealer, they said i would have to pay for service/fix. My question is the following:why should i have to pay for a hose that is too short/long when it was manufactured this way. The bulletins all reflect the 'steering shudder.thank you for a response.sandra.

The vehicles steering fluid leaked and this caused steering problems. *nlm

When a turn was made, there was a noise coming from the steering.

Steering noise is abnormally loud.authorized service(chrysler ) has had 5 cracks at trying to fix the problem. Is still under warranty and i have tried to enact the lemon law.chrysler had their final repair attempt and keep the vehicle for more repairs.

When it is raining and below 45 degrees upon starting there is a loud screeching sound the smell of burnt electricity and the power steering does not work.the van must be turned off and restarted to reengage the power steering. On 2 occasions the steering stayed out for about 15 minutes. Have taken vehicle to chrysler/dodge/jeep dealership and they can not re enact the problem. Have looked on forums and talked with other owners this is not just my issue. Fear one day i will be driving and loose it.

The power steering produced a grinding sound when turning to the left or the right.(power steering pump)three pumps had been installed in the vehicle, the rack and pinion was replaced once, the hoses had been replaced twice and the air bag light was a problem and was repaired. *sc

On my 2002 chrysler town & country with 38,000 miles, the rack and pinion began leaking in oct 2007.the internal 'falling apart' of the rack caused a clog of the steering pumps screen filter which caused a loud whining noise when turning the wheel.in april 2008, both the rack & pinion and the power steering reservoir needed to be replaced to fix the leak and the whining noise: parts - $320, labor - $900.

My 2002 town & country has been in the shop 5/6 times for rear abnormal noise and excessive steering noise. *la

My power steering is beginning to go out again after having to have the hoses replaced for a 2nd time.i believe the hoses are really defective and they haven't been corrected yet!

While slowing for a turn my van started making whining noises then the power steering stopped working. Got out and looked and found fluid leaking on the ground. Now theres no power steering.

When i turnedthe car on the power steering did not work. It has happened before when it is raining outside. I waited a minute and the power steering came back.i drove for about 5 minutes in heavy rain and as i was pulling into the parking lot at about 20 mph my power steering stopped working. I was lucky that i was going so slowly and that i could just pullstraight into two parking spots and wait for the power steering to come back. This was the first time the power steering has stopped working while i wasdriving the car. It was very scary and i am so happy that i was going so slowly. What if it had happened at 60 mph on the highway?

The steering failed to steer the vehicle in one direction. The consumer told by the maintenance inspector that the steering coupler and rack were not properly installed at the factory. This improper installation caused damaged to the rack and coupler.

The air bag light continued to stay on. The consumer was concerned that the air bag will not deploy upon impact. Please provide additional information.sensor light comes on at any speed but mostly when turning the steering wheel.*tc

Steering wheel has a very loud popping and whining sound even after power steering hoses were replaced it is worse since hoses were replaced.*la

My town and country has been a lemon from day one. It has had a number of steering problems( is now undrivable as it is leaking and heat shield is down) dealer claims no recall. It has been rusting since before 30,000miles. It now has holes in it and undercarriage rusted out. Chrysler has done nothing for me. Power window mechanisms/motors were inoperational a year ago-at the same time. It shakes. I am afraid to drive it. Paid plenty. Has 68,000m.

Power steering hose keep breaking, fluid leaks out when hose breaks. Hard to turn steer wheel when hose broke.

Power steering fails when car is backed up and turned to the left.when pulling forward the power steering isnot functioning.placing the car in neutral and revving the engine seems tocorrect the problem.car has 147000+ miles on it.

The power steering quits working at times when its raining. It will not work many times when i crank it up if its been raining. Its has stopped working while on the interstate, city streets, while turning onto another street or road, and at stop signs. I have had the drive belt, power steering pump, tension idler replaced and nothing helps. I have taken it to john greene chrysler dodge in morganton nc, and other repair centers. No one has been able to fix the problem.

We noticed a noise and feeling like the power steering was binding, then went away. It came and went away, but start to do it more often. In march. When we took in for a oil change, we told them about it,but it would not do itfor the service dept.they told us to bring it back when it was doing it. We did and theyand they explained the same problems and repairs that was happening.to the 2003 models. I had them do the hose repair to the sum of $218.36. The power steering repair and upper strut bearing would be a total of $962.70. I told them i would get back to them on that problem.that's when i went to this site onthe advice of someone, and found out that all these problems are the same as the 2003 town and county when i went back to the dealership and asked why the charged me for the service update. Which they told me about they gave me some vague stupid answer. What are my options for this steering problem. My wife and i are both on ssi., and she is disabled and we really can't afford these kind of repairs . I bought this 2002 mini-van in january from my sister. She took meticulous care of it. So when i found my steering failing, i never thought it was an issue with the steering. I thought it was the power steering. I blew a power steering hose one day after weeks of smelling something burning. Got that fixed and then found thesteering column was still locking up, not letting me turn the car, running over the curb because i could not steer it. And i can still smell something out of the ordinary, it almost smells like anti-freeze. Not sure what it is. It usually happened when i first started the car and did not let it warm up for a long period of time. Now it will do it when i am driving.it has happened at least 10 times in the last month. I am getting annoyed with this. I have had it to the garage 2 times now and they can not replicate what happens and now i feel like they think i am a nut case because they say, there is nothing wrong. We can not find a problem with it.i carry 5-6 children in my car at any given time and i find this to be very dangerous.

2002 chrysler town & country hornthe horn on the vehilcles is very difficult to honk, for the lack of a better word.tapping the horn as a friendly gesture is out of the question - in fact it is disconcerting in that you really have to press hard on it to make it work and when it finally works, it is quite a blast (because of the pressure required).the dealer says that they are all this way (i can't be sure of that)and that they are not allowed to make any changes to the tension or part involved in the problem.no vehicle i have ever owned has even remotely exhibited this problem.the fact is that it becomes a safety issue because one has to consciously think about how hard to press on the horn to produce the desired results.in this case, the only result is a very loud and unfriendly blast.many thanks,nick707-785-3440ts

When attempting to turn the car, there is a clunking noise and then the steering wheel comes lose. It does not physically detach from the steering column, but it rocks freely back and forth. Attempting to turn the steering wheel after this causes a grinding sound and is unstable due to the rocking motion. The failure occurred on march 6, and a chrysler dealer serviced the car on march 7 using tsb19-008-01 as a service procedure. The exact same failure occurred the next day, after servicing. A different chrysler dealer serviced it using tsb19-008-01 which involves inserting a shim.two different dealerships recommended replacing the steering column and chrysler would not authorize it.

When turning the steering wheel while driving/parking consumer heard a loud clicking/grinding noise coming from the steering column. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While driving at any speed consumer heard a clicking noise in the steering column.dealership will be notified.

When turning steering wheel towards the right it locked up, causing the consumer to lose control of the vehicle. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership to be inspected.

Power steering has failed at least five times.sometimes when driving 30 mph without warning, sometimes when backing out of a driveway, sometimes when slowing down to make a turn resulting in a near- miss and jumping a curb.to this date steering continues to emit a whining noise.hoses were replaced, steering column rebuilt.more than once dealer stated that they could not replicate the problem resulting in great inconvenience to us.

Power steering - whining, groaning noise and shutters or vibrates in low speed parking situations. This has been going on since the first day i drove the car off the lot back in 2002. 2002 chrysler town & country ex (mileage 50,000) caught fire. Drove car from the university of michigan to my office on platt road, ann arbor. As i turned into the parking lot, power steering failed, was not able to move it. Noticed dense white smoke comming into the car from the dashboard and through the door pillars. Got out of the car, and after about 5 minutes, opened the hood of the car and carefully opened it. Noticed a fire at the back of the engine compartment. My associate rushed into the office building and extinguished the fire using a fire extingusher. After the fire was extinguished called aaa to tow the car to the dealership. Dealership the following day did inform me that the steering wheel hose containing the steering fluid has failed, the steering fluid had leaked onto the exhaust manifold and caught fire.

*sc

I own a 2002 chrysler town & country. At approx. 25k mileage, left front strut replaced under warranty.now out of warranty at 39,000 miles, the sway bar links need to be replaced. Dealer recommends that related bushings be replaced as well because "we've seen a number of them go bad." other comment that "we've seen the links go earlier than this" indicate to me that there is a systemic problem(s) here. Car has not been driven in extraordinary situations that might cause early failure of such parts.at the age of 55, i have owned many cars and never have i experienced such early failure of steering/suspension parts. How many others have had the same issues with these vehicles?

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. While driving at speeds of 60-65 mph on a slightly wet road surface, the vehicle began pulling to the extreme right without driver intent. The contact attempted to straighten the steering wheel but the failure persisted. The contact was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and proceeded to crash into a nearby guardrail. The fire department and police were called to the scene. There were no injuries. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to the contacts residence. The failure was caused by the tie rod. The vin was provided; however, it was not accepted at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 13,223.

Rack and pinion leaking. I was told by a technician that i could lose my steering if not fixed. This is very dangerous.

2002 chrysler town & country, 3 years 11 months old, 46,000 miles, rack and pinion failed.the gentlemen at the chrysler dealership said he has seen quite a few of these rack and pinion system fail.he said you could lose your steering and control of the vehicle.rack and pinion replaced.

The estimate repair cost will be $1,100 dollars.i feel that this should not happen at 25,000 miles and it was an defective parts. I wish the daimler chrysler will recall this part because the mechanic told me that lots of the mini-van rack and pinion has failed, there were three mini-van at the dealer for similar problem at this date.i appreciate your prompt investigation on this matter.

Steering was sticky, binding, and hard to steer.installed steering gear, c-4743142ah.inspect power steering.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at 10 mph and turning the steering wheel had excessive play and shuttering.there is a nhtsa recall, #04v386000 concerning the power assist; hoses, piping and connections however the recall did not correct the problem.the vehicle is having the same problem again.the dealer has been notified.the dealer also replaced the power steering pump, the cooler, and the rack unit.the vehicle has not been repaired.

While drivingat high speedsteering wheel locked up due topower steering rack cracking and allowing power steering fluid to leak out. It had to be towed.

The fuel gauge did not give the correct reading.the mileage indicator fluctuated.the fuel leak detection pump hose was replaceddue to broken parts.scc

Body panels at the top of the van are "separating" at 4 places near the pillar joints on both the driver and passenger sides.body gaps are approximately 1 -2 mm wide and 3 inches long, located adjacent to rubber seals on the van's roof panel.two chrysler dealers have reviewed the problem.dealer 1 (olathe jeep chrysler in olathe ks) suggested the problem was created by a collision, but van has not been in one.dealer 1 offered to seal the panel separations, but offered no further explanation.dealer 2 (jay wolfe chrysler jeep in lee's summit mo) referred the problem to a partnering body shop operated by a ford dealership.the ford body shop stated that the panels are separating due to a manufacturer's adhesive defect and should be repaired under dealer's warranty.we are scheduled to have work done within the next week.i am reporting only to start a file in case others have similar problems.

My new town and country (2002) has been rusting since day one. It was finally painted slightly under warranty at 28,000m on tailgate where it was bubbling. I continued to complain but it fell on deaf ears. The inside of the doors were photographed but nothing done. The undercarriage is completely rusted. It has holes in the body all around and bubbling is seen everywhere. It should not be doing this per local body shops and even dealer but no one will do anything. I am furious. Chrysler only thanked me for my comments. Has 68,000 on it now and has been cared for. Has no resale value due to its condition and the other issues yet paid a mint.

Chrysler left an opening in the body of the van that has allowed mice to enter the interior of the van, causing damage to the seat belts and leather interior upholstery. Nests have been made under the seats and in the glove compartment.van has less than 800 miles and was purchased on nov. 24, 2002.

Power passenger sliding door does not operate correctly and will not close and latch fully. On original complaint november 1, we were told an updated control module was in the works upon checking recently the other service writer said he knew nothing of any update. On february the 7 while driving over 20 mph the power sliding door began to operate as if the door was opening, the doors were locked at the time. On february 28, we took the van in for oil an change, and reported the door problem, then the service writer said an update to repair was in the works. She then suggested that the power doors be disconnected for now until an update is completed. The service writer said we have had lots of complaints about the doors operating this way, this does seem to be anunsafe condition and the answer for the service department is to suggest it be disconnected indicates it is wide spread.

Vehicle was impacted on the left (driver's) side mid section by a vehicle traveling at approx. 45 mph.as a result of the impact, the right (passenger's) side sliding door fully opened.there was no physical or structural damage sustained by the right hand sliding door.the door functioned properly after the crash.all doors were locked at the time of impact.the vehicle is equiped with electric assisted (motorized) sliding doors on both sides.it is unknown if the door opened electrically or as a result of a mechanical latching failure.dt

Dt*: the contact stated the rear lift gate opened on its own intermittently.the dealership adjusted the latch, cleaned the sensors, and lubricated the cables, but the problem persisted.updated 12/28/06.

The contact owns a 2002 town and country. The dealer replaced the power lift gate module; however, the failure wasn't corrected. He took the vehicle back to the dealer who stated that they replaced the part specified in the recall; therefore, they could no longer assist him. The contact replaced the lift gate latch himself which was the specific cause for the failure. The manufacturer will not assist the contact with a good will reimbursement, because of the vehicle mileage. The failure mileage was 155,667 and the current mileage was 155,821.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that after opening the rear lift gate using the key fob, it suddenly closed independently and without warning, striking the contact's head. The contact attempted to push the lift gate open but it failed to remain upright.the contact sustained injuries to the head and hand which required medical attention.the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnosis. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 114,550.

The automatic liftgate would open by itself intermittently from a stop position while driving or while the vehicle was shift into drive. Vehicle is at the dealer , and they are unable to locate the cause of the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal noise emitting from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that under carriage was rusted. The technician stated that the vehicle could not be repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.

I purchased the car in august of 2013 took car to auto repair for rear wheel bearing in the process of getting it fixed the mechanic noticed that the shocks were totally rotted i informed fran from b7b automotive that the shocks were totally rotted and the car was not safe to drive as stated by my mechanic fran's response to us was well you had the car for 11 months and besides you live down the shore which will rot them out myresponse to him was this is something thatwas supposed to be check before it was taken off the lot this is a safety hazard. I have the shocks and took pictures in case we have to consult an attorney i think something should be done about this company who sells cars that are not safe.

Vehicle wanders all over the road at any speed, in wet conditions vehicle sways. Taken to dealer 3 times, cannot remedy the problem.

Knocking in the front wheel area. Technician claims it may be a bushing or a strut (or a bushing on the strut).

The driver noticed aloud grinding noisewhile starting up the vehicle.apparently the noise was coming from the steering wheel. The driver was able to drive to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic placed the vehicle on a diagnostic machine. The codes were displayed on the computer, then reset.the mechanic informed the driver that the problem was solved.the driver informed the mechanic that this problem has recurred more than once.

*scc

The vehicle, above, bounced around on the road and was noisy. Since we are both retired and drive about 2000 miles per month we felt unsafe since about 75% of ourmiles are at highway speeds on the interstate roads. We feared a lack ofcontrol with a possiblity of a crash. The dealer reaired but chrysler would not stand behind the cost of $726 to repair. We experienced this reaction on the 2001 chrysler after two years because we drive more than double the average driver. It would seem to us that there are some potential accidents waiting to happen when the average driver reaches their fourth year or 52000 miles. Feel there should be a recall on the failure of front end struts and sway bars for a two year old vehicle with 53000 miles.dt

While driving 40 mph vehicle jerked and vibrated uncontrollably.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. However, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

I developed a rear flat tire.i was not able to get the spare tire down as the release mechanism was rusted.as i was pulling to try to free the spare tire the vehicle almost fell off the jack.excessive force is needed to release the spare tire with the vehicle on the jack.

While driving my 2002 chrysler town & country about 15 mph in a construction zone, my full size spare tire fell off of the vehicle and onto the street.it is held under the vehicle by means of a steel cable.the plastic clamp that the cable is attached to broke and the tire fell.i heard a bang and felt a bump and saw my tire through my rear view mirror in the street.my concern is what would have happened if that tire fell on the highway while going 60 mhp? the accident it would have caused behind me from other drivers trying to avoid my dropped tire could have killed someone.are there any reports of these cables/plastic clamps breaking or failing in the past?thank you

When slowly pulling into a parking space (my foot was on the brake) with approximately two to one foot to complete this action, there was a tremendous surge of energy that drove the car forward into a building leaving a hole in the brick wall and broken windows.

Air bag light remained illuminated while driving, andcruise control worked intermittently.dealer was notified andinformed consumer that vehicle was not covered under the clock spring recall.

While driving our back window just exploded. It's a 2002 chrysler town and country ex touring edition.we immediately stopped the vehicle and there was no evidence of anything hitting the window and the window was bowed out. We did file a police report with the columbus police department.we called ricart chrysler, where we purchased the vehicle, and was told the warranty only covers 12 months and was told it was probably heat build up (it was 57 degrees that day) or a stress fracture. Which i would assume to be a defect as we did nothing to cause the window to explode.

Consumerfound thatpassenger's side windowdid not roll down when depressing window button. Dealership serviced vehicle, and noticed motor needed replacement.

Driver and passenger power window motor failures. They worked off and on several months before the actual complete failure. Often not rolling up in the rain, extreme heat, and high ozone days creating heath dangers and major driving distractions to children and adult passengers. Chrysler needs to recall these window motors. There are several websites with hundreds of owners complaining of the same problem. It is bad business for chrysler to continue to lie and cover this up. The replacement parts are extremely over priced considering the obvious defect. Chrysler needs to be held accountable for this and other defects that seem to be overwhelming the majority of town and country owners.

Front driver side window on 2002 chrysler town and country stop rolling up. I reviewed owner comments from a website on how to get the window to roll up, which was by slamming the door while holding the button in the up position. Need to do it numerous times to get it to roll up. This website http://www.autosite.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/posts/fid/1650had numerous complaints on the same issue as i had concerning this window mechanism.

The power windows in the chrysler mini vans, are very bad, they go bad very often. The power window motor goes out very often. Leaving the window either up or down. Or will not work at all . Cheap design.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph in heavy rain, the windshield wipers locked up in the middle of the windshield and stopped working.the contact was able to pull over and managed to unlock the wipers.after unlocking the wipers, the only wiper working was the passenger side.the contact was able to drive out of the rain.the dealership was contacted.the driver side wiper was strippeed and had to be replaced.updated 11/21/06.

Windshield washer spray nozzles froze during low temperature conditions causing serious visibility problems on highway due to salt spray.extra heavy duty 'red' solution had been used, supposed to be good for -30 degrees f.it appears that the position of the spray nozzles, and perhaps the position of the reservoir tank do no benefit from the heat of the engine or defrosters.
