Air bag light comes on intermittently, not sure if it means it is about to fail, scary stuff, or maybe it will not deploy in the case of an accident, also scary.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag's clockspring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer indicated that the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 04v480000 (air bags); however, the vin was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Bag light continues to light up after repeated attempts to repair the problem.i am concerned for the safety of my family as i am informed that when the bag light is lit, the bag safety system is inoperable.a recall was issued by chrysler for models with similar problems that does not extend to the 2001 town & country model.
The air bag light came on intermittently.the consumer vehicle was not included in the nhtsa recall04v48000.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.while driving at various speeds, the steering column and clock spring failed.the only warnings that were present prior to the failure were the air bag light illuminating and the horn failing to work.the contact believes this is a safety issue because she needs her horn to prevent crashes.the failure has only occurred once.the dealer confirmed that the clock spring failed, which caused the components connected to it to fail as well.the clock spring was replaced at the contact's expense.the current mileage was 145,484 and failure mileage was 145,400. 2001 chrysler town and country. Consumer writes in regards to passenger side airbag being deployed without cause. *ldthe consumer stated when the airbag deployed it cracked the windshield and damaged the dashboard. The consumer requested to be reimbursed the kelly blue book value of the vehicle.
Dt:the contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact states that there was a recall on the clockspring for one of the vans that she owns but it was not for the vehicle that she is having the problem with. The airbag light was coming on in her van and it was the same type of problem with the recall letter she recieved.
2001 chrysler town and country minivan.airbag warning light has come on intermittantly over last few months. Dealership recommends immediate replacement of airbag clockspring, as well as replacement of headlamp switch for an "unrelated" electrical issue with flickering instrument cluster lights. Neither are covered under the 8 year/80,000 mile warranty we purchased for car. We were charged $135.00 to replace a $3.00 clockspring. Upon further investigation, i found that in the late 90's many chryslers were recalled for clockspring and many complaints have been made on later models. I think the problem is still a manufacturer issue and should be recalled.
Dealership replaced the clock spring at the consumer'sexpense of $100.00.the cruise and horn was inoperative, the steering was hard to turn when the vehicle was first startedand the passenger side middle seat handle had broken. *sc the dealer replaced the steering hose.
Air bag light illuminated.vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6/12/03. Dealer stated that problem was the clockspring.
Alarms go iff.driving.allights go out.cant see .driving interstates at 70 to 80 mph...this isreal danger to all owners of ant caravans and town and country vans. Id like to file a lawsuit protecting all of us owners? how many have been killed and never reported?
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and advised the contact that the vehicle was over the warranty mileage limit. The failure mileage was 145,000. Updated 11/16/12*ljthe consumer stated the clock spring is fixed free by recalls with chrysler vehicles. A southfeild chrysler advisor requested for the consumer to pay for the vehicle to be repaired. The consumer refused. Updated 11/20/2012
2001 chrysler town and country 3.8 the cruise control, horn and air bag will not work. There have been thousands of recalls on this (clockspring wiring harness) prior to 2001 but chrysler said it will not take care of mine because of the mileage (130000) and the year 2001 has no recalls.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated on an intermittent basis and the horn did not function. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the clock spring may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.
The airbag light kept going on and off while driving.checked on the computer and found where this was a problem with chrysler products from 1994-2000 caused by a faulty clockspring. There was a recall on these models. Mine is a 2001 chrysler limited minivan with only 66,900 miles on it and cost me $357.00 to get it fixed. Depending on when this car was manufactured, it could still have the same brand clockspring as the other years.
Airbag indicator light comes on and off.this appears to be similar to the numerous other complaints with this same system in the 2001 town & country mini van.the light might come on once or twice on a short trip, or it may not come on during a long trip. At times it will turn on and off many times during those same intervals.we are waiting for a recall before we proceed with any repairs. This needs to addressed by chrysler in a service bulletin or a recall.
Clockspring has failed twice and replaced twice and is failing again now.air bag, horn, cruise control and other components fail when clockspring fails.i feel this could be a potential life threatening situation if air bag fails in an accident because of clockspring failure.
The airbag disable light periodically comes on.it stays on from a few seconds to several minutes.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated and the horn failed to operate. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The contact was advised that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
Consumer concerned about replacement of clock spring on 2001 chrysler town and country. The consumer had the clockspring replaced and is requesting reimbursement, however his vehicle was not included in the recall.
The vehicle was involved in a t-bone collision on the driver side, at an impact of 25-30 mph.the driver side air bag failed to deploy. The driver sustained some injury but was not transported to the local hospital.
The warning light for the air bags comes on when i start the vehicle and stays on while driving.about a week a go it would come on and then turn off in a minute or so but now the warning light stays on.i am wondering if there have been any recalls for these air bags, if the vehicle is safe, and what i should do. The vehicle has 49,067 miles.
Clock spring, no driver air bag. It seem to be an ongoing problem. Redesign it. 2001 town & country. Problem with windows also. Redesign it. Whats the problem with product. Ongoing problems!! thay are still making too much money on replacement parts. Do something!!
We purchased our 2001 chrysler town and country new in july of 2001. Since that time it has been in and out of the shop for various odd electrically related issues and numerous recalls. We have had problems with the power door locks and even problems opening them with the key several times on the sliding doors(service dept at dealership just dismissed it as "unable to duplicate"). Two years ago, the radio got stuck on (could not adjust volume, turn it off or anything). This was the beginning of upwards of 5 times the radio has been taken out and replaced with a new unit after being sent off. This requires two visits each time to drop off the car. The latest time, they had our radio for 5 months! the console lights would not come on, so you could't read anything on the panel at night. They replaced the dimmer switch knob. They had to replace the clockspring in the steering wheel because the airbag light kept coming on when you turned the wheel. We keep telling them that there is something wrong with the electrical system but they say it checks out fine. We have also had the driver's window lock up a few times, and the automatic locks not operational when you reach 20 mph. I believe that there are several other issues that we have had, but i cannot recall them as the list is so long.
Faulty clock spring. Same symptoms as recall #04v480000 for chrysler mini-vans mfd. Through 08-31-2000. Although mine is a 2001 model, it was mfd. Soon there after nov.. 2000. Why no recall for the '01? again same symptoms: air bag light on nearly all the time, horn doesn't work, steering wheel radio controls do not work. A faulty clock spring i'm told. Vehicle exhibits these symptoms across all driving conditions.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. Thecontact was drivingbetween 40-45 mphwhen qithout warning the driver side airbag abruptly deployed. The contact sustained minor injury to the left arm and shoulder area. Also, body bruises and cracked ribs. The contact was able to resume operation with caution. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where it had been for a period of three weeks. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact was displeased to know the inspection was such a lengthy process and informed that there was no alternate means of transportation due to the vehicle being equipped handicap accessible. The manufacturer was notified of the malfunction but there was no resolution. The failure mileage was 170,000.
Air bag fail light illuminated, horn failure, cruise control failure.diagnosed as a failed clock-spring.recalled on 1999 and 2000 chrysler town and country but not on 2001.
Intermittent air bag light.appears to be clockspring.also driver side sliding door automatic lock won't work.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated the vehicle was stopped at a traffic stop when the passenger side air bag deployed erroneously without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was told that there was no way to determine why the air bag deployed. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that there was no defect with the air bag. The failure mileage was 180,000.
2001 town & country airbag light lights up intermittently.the dealer says a clockspring has failed not covered by the manufacturer.the dealer will repair but charges a deductible per the extended warranty.this is a safety defect that should be covered by the manufacturer, aggravated by the fact that 1998-2000 vehicles, just before this model year, are covered by a recall for the exact same item.
On sept. 28, 2005 i took my 2001 chrysler town and country ex model minivan vin#[xxx] to dick smith chrysler in aiken, sc to correct a problem with the airbag system.the airbag light on the dash was lighting up erratically and i became concerned about the safe function of the airbag system.the service dept. Ran a diagnostic on the system and found a defective clock spring, which they replaced for $250.45.upon returning home i ran an internet search about the problem and found this exact problem led to a recall of the 1996-2000 models of the same minivan.i promptly contacted the chrysler company, but they said that they would not do anything because my exact vin number was not included in the previous recalls.in addition, the service dept. At dick smith chrysler also said they would not honor the previous recall because it as of yet did not include my model year. I am filing this complaint because i believe chrysler has not corrected the problem and my safety was placed at risk because of the malfunction in my vehicle.i did the responsible thing and had my vehicle repaired, but i was offered no compensation for the repair because the recall had not yet been extended to cover the 2001 year.what else can i do to insure this problem is addressed in a timely and safe manner?updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Air bag light comes on while driving and stays on a couple of minutes and then goes off and comes on later.this has been happening for a couple of months
Consumerreceived recall 04v480000 concerning air bag clock spring, but the information concerning year, make and model did not appear in nhtsa data base.consumer complained that the dealer charged her $220.42 for the clock springrecall repairs.recall campaign; the check air bag light came on while the vehicle was being driven.*tc
Air bag sensor light blinks on and off. A recall was issuedon the clock spring, however this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.the vehicle had numerous problems such as steering problems, sliding problems, brake and acceleration problems, astrong odor of gas and thefront sway bars and rear shocks werereplaced
The cruise control on my 2001 chrysler town and country doesn't turn on when the switch is activated. I had the same problem with my 1997 plymouth grand voyager. The problem in the voyager was taken care of when the dealer replaced the clock spring (safety recall) in the steering column. If a defective clock spring forced a safety recall in my 1997 grand voyager, why is it acceptable for me to drive my 2001 town and country with the same defective clock spring?
The air bag light stays on after i start the car. Vehicle has approximately 95,000 miles. The technician scan shows fault code for "driver squib #1 circuit open" and he is telling me it is a clockspring fault. There was a recall for the clockspring in 2004, however when i called the dealer he said that my vin is not included. How did chrysler decide that my vehicle should not be included in the recall?
Failure of clockspring in steering wheel assembly.this failure causes the driver side airbag to quit working.it also causes the horn not to work.additionally the cruise control also quits functioning.the clockspring electrical ribbon bends in one specific point and over time the ribbon fails completely.
Had an front left corner damage accident with vehicle that struck me with the front middle of his vehicle. I was almost at a stand still. Since speed limit was 40 mph we estimated that as the speed of the vehicle that struck my vehicle. My vehicle has two front air bags and front side air bags. None of them deployed at time of impact.
Do to clockspring failure , many people could behurt or killed because horn, & airbags no working. This is due to bad parts car buyer's shouldn't have to pay for replacement.
While driving normally, the airbag light comes on. It then turns on then off again while turning at low speeds. This is accompanied by a ticking or popping type sound in the steering wheel.since this is a family van, i am worried that the air bag will fail or self deploy will driving.
Critical safety equipment has failed in my vehicle. Most importantly, the horn has stopped working and i am unable to alert other vehicles of possible dangers. Inoperative horn. Inoperative drivers side airbag, inoperative speed control system. These safety feature failures are due to airbag clockspring failure. Chrysler recall or notification code d17. The chrysler d17 recall (clockspring failure) included chrysler town and country vehicles from 1998 through 2000. Although the model year of my vehicle is 2001, the vehicle was manufactured in aug. 2000. The horn does not work at all. The horn not working is a tremendous safety risk. I am very fearful for my safety and the safety of my family. The airbag not working also puts me and my family at great risk. I believe that my vehicle would be included in this recall because the part has failed and my vehicle was manufactured in 2000. My ultimate concern is the safety of my family and i wish that chrysler would honor their customers by providing repair for this great safety failure. Please let me know if you have any questions or need further clarification. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. While driving 55 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. In addition, the electrical functions on the instrument panel were not functioning properly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 170,000.updated 2/24/15the consumer stated air bag light would illuminate and then go out while driving randomly.updated 03/03/15
Airbag light came on.right front seat belt buckle tensioner was faulty.consequence is tensioner would not work as needed.replaced right front seat belt buckle tensioner.
2001 chrysler town and country experiencing failures with steering, instrument panel, airbags, seat belt wiring harness and transmission.*mrconsumer stated i've had nothing but serious problems with this vehicle since new.eight front-end and steering failures, 6 instrument panel electronic failures, 4 air bag and seat wiring harness failures and now it seems, a serious transmission problem.
Airbag disabled due to clock spring defect on 2001 chrysler town & country ex minivan. There is a recall (recall # 04v480000 from nhtsa database) for same but slightly older vehicles. I believe the same problem exists in the 2001 year model as well.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated the air bag light illuminated and stayed on. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where she was informed the entire air bag system needed to be replaced. The contact believed that the salt on the road contributed to the failure and that there should have been a coating that would prevent the salt from damaging the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 130,000.
Theclock spring was detective. The vehicle was under an extended warranty.however, the dealer would not honor the warranty ormake the repairs unless the owner pays out of pocket.there were noise in the front end when turning. *sc
In my 2001 chryslertown and country minivan the horn, cruise control, and airbag have stopped working. I understand this is a common problem due to a broken clockspring in the steering wheel assembly, and that chrysler recalled previous models with this same defect. Driving without a horn and reliable airbag clearly presents a safety risk. I believe a recall or free repair is in order.
Air bag light continuously illuminated on the dashboard. As a result, air bags were inoperative, and wouldn't deploy when needed. Dealershipinspectedvehicle several times, and could not duplicate or correct the problem.*la
While driving at 50 mphon highwayin rush hour, side impact airbag on passenger side deployed without any warning . Chrysler sent out aninvestagator, but did not inform consumer of cause.
My 2001 chrysler town & country suffered a complete transmission failure.i bought this vehicle new in 2001 and thought i was buying the best mini-van for the money.however, i've had nothing but problems with this vehicle.power windows have failed, power sliding door has failed 3 times, power lift gate failed, air bags caused a check engine light to come on ( replaced under warranty). All of these were minor in comparison to the transmission, which cost me $3078 to have rebuilt.i've found too many instances of transmission failures on the internet, i question why chrysler hasn't been called out on this by the nhtsa.chrysler knows about the quality of their vehicles and continues to do nothing about it.in the future i will never buy another chrysler product.
While driving 30-35mph passenger and driver's side airbags deployed without warning. Dealer has vehicle.
While starting the vehicle srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the clock spring needed to be replaced.
The air bag light comes on and stays on for 10 sec to 20 minwith no particular driving pattern.. This means no air bag safety when it is on. It cleared during the cold winter but is back doing it, and doing some research i am not the only one having this problem. I am tired of chrysler not addressing this problem. I found that my daughters 97 expresso and my sons 98 t&c had the same problem. Shouldn't chrysler do a recall.
I read about a recall on the clockspring on 2000 chrysler t&c vans. It stated it ran from until aug 2000. My van is a 2001 chrysler t&c manufactured in 8/2000. I have this same clockspring failure that causes the airbag not to function. I have tried to talk to chrysler to no avail. It just seems that they had some bad parts during that time and possibly those parts were also put on some of the 2001 vans manufactured in 8/2000. The dealer said that this clockspring failure is a common event. It seems to be a safety issue.
Airbags did not deploy during a six car pile up, our vehicle was the fifth, we rear ended the vehicle in front of us and then we were rear ended by the vehicle behind us. Despite wearing seatbelts the passenger hit the windshield because the air bag did not deploy on impact.
While driving 25 mph vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy.driver sustained minor cuts and neck injuries.consumerreported the air bag sensor light to the dealer, who stated that there was no problem.
I was cut off by another driver on interstate 5, lost traction on the center shoulder and crashed into the middle railing at about 55-60 mph. My van was heavily damaged front and rear. It was later determined a total loss. What surprised me was the failure of any airbag being deployed in my van. I later notified the auto maker corporation and was informed that the reason the airbags did not deploy was due to the fact that there wasn't enough force to damage the vehicles frame...(?)
The air bag, horn and other devices with controls on the streeing wheel have failed to operate.the vehicle is a 2001 town and country chrysler van.there was a recall for year 2000 and earlier for this problem due a failed clockspring.this is an early 2001 vehicle as i took delivery in december 2000.this is a safety issue - it appears that the problemis identical to that described in nhtsa campaign # 04v480000. Why is this not covered in the recall?a local chrysler dealer is qoting me a cost of $250 + to repair.
My wife had an accident on sept 30, 2004. She was traveling app 35 mph when a vehicle made a left turn in front of her. She struck the vehicle broadside with such force that it flipped that vehicle on its side. My vehicle had severe damages to the full front with approximately $10,000 in reparis. The air bags did not deploy. I reported the incident to chrysler. They sent an investigator in to inspect the system before repairs commenced. The investigator advisedmy vehicle was not in the air bag recall. He further stated there was nothing wrong with the sensors or air bag system. My insurance carrier has refused to replace or have the air bag system checked out. My concern is that the air bags may deplore on its own while driving the vehicle or fail to deplore if i am involved in another accident. Also i can't understand how a impact across the full front of the vehicle while traveling 35 mph did not set the air bag off, when it is my understanding they should have deploed at 7 to 15 mph. I feel there is a problem with the senor and air bag system on this vehicle that chrysler is not acknowleging. I ask that nhtsainvestigate this problem on my behalf.
While driving the airbag sensor light comes on.consumer is concerned that if involved in a crash the air bags will not deploy upon impact.
Air bag light turns on intermittently when turning corners, then goes out after a minute when the car is driving straight.
The air bag sensor light stays on. The consumer is concerned that the air bags will not deploy upon impact. A recall for the clock spring has been issued, however this vehicle is not included due to vin.
Air bag alert light comes on repeatedly while driving and when doing so the air bag is no longer functional. The duration of this event can be from ten seconds to twenty minutes. Have taken it to numerous chrysler dealers who in each instance state that they cannot duplicate the problem. We have lost at a minimum twenty days of time that the car was in the shop for this complaint. The most recent was visit (4/30-5/1/03) and were told the problem was repaired. Not so. The first time the car was driven on 5/1/03 the light again came on.my concern is with the dealer's advisory that the air bag is not functioning when the light is on and this could result in a catastrophic incident.the vehicle has been inspected for this problem repeatedly at verger chrysler in coos bay, oregon and fisher chrysler in yuma, arizona.
Consumer stated clock spring has been replaced twice and has continued to have the same problem. Dealer notified. Please provide any further information. *ph
Chrysler 2001 town & country at 77468 milesairbag light on the dash came on and stayed on with intermittent blinking off and then on.took it to hayes chrysler. Their invoice states "tech verified and ran electrical diag where he found passenger side squib open".consequences were that if an accident had occurred, then the passenger side airbag would not have deployed.fix was to replace passenger side airbag module.
The airbag light came on and stays on in my 2001 chrysler town & country.at the same time, the cruise control became inoperable and the dashboard lights stopped working.when we took it to the dealer, we were told that the problems were all related to the onboard computer and that it could take thousands of dollars just to diagnose the problem.they said some 2001's were recalled but "not your vin #."asked if there was a problem with the airbag or whether it would deploy, we were told there was no way of knowing without doing the major diagnostics.they refused to give an estimate or a ceiling on the price.this is unfair and we are worried that the airbag will not deploy and that there may be significant instability in the on-board computer which could lead to a serious safety problem.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.the contact noticed that the driver's side air bag warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure and stated that there were no recalls pertaining to the failure.in addition, her vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v192000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module).the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 55,000 and current mileage was 70,000. 2001 chrysler town and country mini-van1) clockspring failure- airbagmalfunctions and associated electrical failure-there is a current recall on other chrysler models and years, why not this one when it is the identical problem? significant bodily injury potential- requesting recall on this model.2) faulty driver's side power window regulator- pervasive on all chrysler vehicles resulting in safety issues.
During a t-bone collision, the side air bags did not deploy.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
I have a chrysler town & country ltd fwd lwb 2001.the car was in the garage and my 2 sonswere in the car. I was in the drivers seat and my wife was buckling up my son behind the drivers seat when the drivers side airbag deployed for no reason. Although chrysler paid to have the van fixed and for the rental car i'm submitting this complaint as a means to make sure all parties know and that if a recall is necessary then hopefully this complaint might advert a future accident.

There was nothing else that the repair order specifys as being replaced.
The seat was not locked and when the consumer applied the brakes suddenly, the child safety seat moved and the baby car seat lunged forward. The baby bruised his/her face. It must have symbol to let you know seat is locked into placed.
Built in child seat has a flip down front which was not properly locked. Child was in built in seat when it flipped forward and then backwardshittingchild inface. Child lost a couple of front teeth.
Child seat - the 5 point harness on the child seat has two buckles on the shoulder straps that snap into a buckle mounted to the seat.when i install the left shoulder buckle into the seat buckle, there is no noticeable "click" for confirmation that the buckle is safely latched.if i then install the right shoulder buckle, there is a distinguishable "click".if i reverse the order of installation, i get a slightly noticeable "click"then a distinguishable "click".::lift gate - does not open in cold weather.
Two year old child is able to remove retainer clip and get out ofchild safety seat. Dealer notified, and replacedchild seat on three occasions; but, problem still reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.
My 2001 chrysler town & country at 73,000 miles had the check engine light come on.my wife started the vehicle the next day and she said that it sounded like the motor was going to fall out when she put it in reverse and the vehicle would not move. We had our local mechanic check it out. He said that there were two transmission codes showing defect but he did not have the proper equipment to check it out further and we had to take it to the dealer for service.we were able to get the vehicle working again so we took it to the dealer who is 50 miles away. On the trip to the dealer it went into "limp in" mode at 65 miles per hour. The vehicle violently decelerated and about put my wife through the windshield. She "limped" in to the dealers parking lot where the vehicle died. 7 days later and $2800.00 i got my vehicle back with a new transmission.no transmission should completely self destruct at 73000 miles but it seems that chrysler products do (and sometimes sooner). My neighbor also has a 2000 caravan that is on its third transmission. In addition to the transmission problem, my van has had problems with the drivers side window not operating. The sliding side doors will open while driving down the road and the drivers control's for these doors do not work. What more do i have to look forward to with chrysler's "quality" products?
Beginning 12/04...head light brightness intermittently varies according to rpm's regardless of speed.dimness increased by low battery charge after the following have occurred: battery low/dead after leaving doors open for 2-3 hours. Battery low/dead if vehicle not used for several days.passenger window failure intermittent then complete.rear vent windows failure intermittent.driver window failure intermittent.gear change with significant increase of rpm's at high speeds for no apparent reason.speed surge at highway speeds for no apparent reason.overhead control of sliding doors unreliable.engine light continuously on for over 2 months.only noticeable problem; increased battery/starting problems.new battery purchased.10/6/05eng line code p0601 diagnosed by dealership as need for new pcm board.when code p0601 was entered into the parts database at the dealership, it took several minutes for the search to be completed due to the exceedingly high number of codes processed before the $750.00 pcm board was determined to be the correct part to repair the problems.(turn ignition on and off three times leaving it in on position on the third time to find engine codes!this technical trick has not changed since the mid 80's)all this before 70,000 miles.logic leads one to believe that the pcm boards are defective, or that their location under the hood, next to the engine and exposure to extreme changes in temperature leads to early failures. Rear view and side view mirrors inadequate for size of vehicle.many blind spots make this vehicle unsafe to back up anywhere. Chrysler, as usual, needs the federal gov't to issue edicts before recalls will be issued or replacements/repairs made at no cost to the consumer.electrical failures are this vans greatest downfall.otherwise, it's a really comfortable ride.
Many electrical problems, windows don't go up and down, radio and cd player does not work, fan on the heater does not come on at times, heated seats do not work, sliding door has come open while driving (very dangerous if you have kids).popping noise in the front suspension.still does it after being worked on.
Power steering problems, and power window and door problems.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the rear driver side door failed to lock or unlock. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
Vehicle has electrical problems including but not limited to power windows, wipers, stereo, headlights, and ac controls.problems include headlights flickering on and off, wipers/stereo does not function when you first turn on the car and then comes on by itself anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 days later.no pattern can be determined which makes me to believe that the whole electrical system of this vehicle is defective.according to the dealership they cannot duplicate the problem, or if they cannot determine the cause of the problem, therefore it isn't their problem.i have spent countless trips to the dealerships and paid for them to look at it only to be told that they can't duplicate it.then they offer me a solution for no less than $400 that is supposed to "fix" the problem when anyone with common sense knows that i would just spend that money and still have the problem because the replacement that they are proposing isn't the root of the problem.
The air conditioning compressor in my 2001 chrysler town & country minivan has failed.while driving the vehicle the compressor failed.smoke was coming out from under the hood.i pulled the vehicle over and opened the hood.the compressor was smoking.i immediately shut down the a/c on the vehicle controls in the cabin.i am certain that if i hadn't powered down the compressor it would have caught on fire.there is a technical service bulletin on this particular problem.
2011 chrysler town and country. Consumer writes in regards to nhtsa recall 14v-234. Consumer states that this is the second recall notice received and vehicle has not been repaired due to dealer not yet receiving the parts. *ld
Radio overheated under high heat conditions 110+ degree weather. Radio circuit board short circuited and burned. Burning condition occurs at heat disipation unit and main circuit board; left side of radio, where a aluminum plate is located.
1.feb 5, 2005my car doors would not open with the electronic opener. Thought the battery was dead called to have 'road service' assist.had to manually open van with key.the clock was not working, and the cd player was making a 'ticking' sound so i switched to the radio. The display on the radio was unreadable.also the rear liftgate would not open with the controls.2. Radio problem. Not working. Dealer told me that the recall did not apply to my van, and that the radio could be replaced with a refurbished radio and since it was not covered by a recall it would cost me $50.00a check of the electrical system was not indicated on the invoice.3.nothing was done to correct the problem.i was also told that perhaps my van would be put on the recall list and that i should wait to see if i got a recall letter. I never got a recall letter. So to be safe, i had the radio disconnected (or the fuse taken out, i don't know which) i called the dealer i bought the car from (carmax of orlando) and they were less than helpful. In fact the service manager was rather rude and condescending. Saying to me "why are you yacking about your radio, its just a radio", and it isn't covered by any recall.well it is six months later and since i have not heard from chrysler with a recall letter, so i decided to call and find out if there was any other information. I called here first, and they were unaware of any expansion on recall. I have talked to chrysler about this situation and even though the car was assembled in ontario (a cool climate) and was transferred and bought in a hot humid climate, i can't seem to convince anyone that the problem that i am having is because of the original intent of the recall, operating the radio in a hot humid climate with the a/c.i would like to see other vin's as part of this recall, since clearly there is a problem with more of the cars from the ontario plant.
If the side automatic doors or the automatic liftgate are opened and left opened while the car is not on, for any more than a few minutes, then van will not start and will need to be jumped.there have also been other electrical problems.the headlights, when left on automatic, will sometimes flicker when the car is not running .the rear wipers quit working, as well as the seat heaters.
Drove to store about 40 minutes away, on the way there and back no signs at all that anything was wrong or any kind of warning lights. Got home parked in driveway for about 2-3 hours went out tried to start it and van was completely dead no power at all. My husband jumped it we started driving and within a mile all lights and gauges started flickering and engine fan wouldn't shut off had to pull the fuse to make fan stop running. Next time got it started again still dead gauges but headlights were working then everything went dead again and engine fan wouldn't come on at all. It has had a new battery, new body control module, transmission module and gauges put in and still the engine fan won't run and abs & brake lights on gauge panel won't go out. Dealer said they still don't know what is wrong needed to diagnose more things at the cost of a minimum of $80 per thing they checked out. Just brought the van home. It was parked for five months prior while trying all the remedies above. I have also had some of the other issues such as noise in front end had to dealer a couple of times they didn't find anything. Had a problem with sliding door closing with someones arm in it and door didn't stop on it's own! now the power doors and locks won't work at all. I was told by someone who works for chrysler's that they were having many electrical problems with these van's!! this has been a major disaster live on fixed income as well and can't afford these major problems and shouldn't have to on such a new vehicle. Chrysler should have to take care of these major problems!! makes me not want to buy another new vehicle especially from chrysler!!!
Failure of clockspring in steering wheel assembly.this failure causes the driver side airbag to quit working.it also causes the horn not to work.additionally the cruise control also quits functioning.the clockspring electrical ribbon bends in one specific point and over time the ribbon fails completely.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. While examining the vehicle the contact noticed that the side rear doors would not close or open using the interior buttons or the keyless entry. The contact also noticed that if the vehicle was not driven within 3 days that the battery the would fail. The failure was not diagnosed. The current mileage was 101,000. The failure mileage was 92,000.
Nobody was hurt either time but this happened twice and the manufacturer has failed to fix it yet. The car is brand new and the electrical system has just shut it down on two separate occasions while driving 30 mph (once in a parking lot and once on a city street). My family is afaid to drive it now a days since my wife has been stranded without power two times. When the car shuts down, it loses all power and can not be restared. We have had to get the car towed back to us on 2 separate occasions in the first month we owned the car.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of electrical power and a loss of power steering. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
We have 2 - 2001 chrysler town & country vans. They both have less than 55000 and have had several mechanical malfunctions, some of which are very serious. They share many of the same problems which include, steering components, electrical failure of internal gauges, and radio replacements. One van also had a brake line separate while traveling on the highway about a month ago.
The electronic doors are not working properly on my 2001 chrysler town and country.the right door and the rear hatch do not open with the button.they have to be manually opened.they worked great until about 45,000 miles, then quit.
I just had the driver side passenger door malfunction in such a way that the door could nor be opened manually, with the remote or with the power button in the car.this is an obvious safety problem.good thing i did not have an accident where the right side of the van was damaged or obscured.god forbid a fire.and guess what, the 36000 mile warranty just ran out.as did $500 of my money.another problem is with the power doors and power trunk (hatch).they will not close properly.these openings will attempt to close, but right before they complete the action, they reverse to a fully open position.the dealer cannot seem to fix the problem, even after multiple attempts to correct the problem.they have had may vans in their shop for at least 12 days n the past two years trying to fix this problem.i will give the dealer some credit, after the last visit i have not had this problem.it only took the 6-7 visits to get it right.i wonder if my current problem has anything to do with this last visit? *nlm*dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*769303.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact was driving 5 mph when the vehicle exhibited an abnormal cracking noise from the front end. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 01v152000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower arm) and contacted the manufacturer however, the manufacturer advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics but the mechanic referred the contact back to the manufacturer. In addition, the radio would not function in consistently hot or humid weather and was also leaking water onto the anti-freeze pipe. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

For the last 3 years, we have had nothing but problems with our 2001 town & country awd van.i am in the shop almost once a month! the list of repairs are as follows: (2001) failure of rear-windshield wiper, failure of driver's side heated seat, replaced switch, replaced front drive shaft, replaced power steering reservoir bottle (2002) replaced power steering pump, transmission failure (2003)of rear fan motor, replaced rear-tailgate latch, failure of front passenger heated seat, driver's side window sticks and stays down mostly during wet weather and requires you to turn the defroster on high for 5 minutes to have it go back up, check engine light came on due to leak in compressor, belt still squeals after a hard rain, knob for fog light won't stay on.*la
The check engine light started flashing, which means a misfire in the engine is occurring when the temperature is above 80 degrees. It was found to be a faulty driver for the coil pack firing on cylinder 3 & 6 in the ecm computer. No signal was coming out of the computer for the coil pack driver module on cylinders 3 & 6 which share the same coil pack. Replaced the $850 computer and all is fine.
The power sliding doors had become inoperative. The dealer statedthe motor was inoperative.the inside switch on the left and right side doors were hard to open.the dealer stated that the problem was due to a defective roller.the over head console locked out/switch engaged.the cable was disengaged.mrscc

Alarms go iff.driving.allights go out.cant see .driving interstates at 70 to 80 mph...this isreal danger to all owners of ant caravans and town and country vans. Id like to file a lawsuit protecting all of us owners? how many have been killed and never reported?
I am not sure if it is electrical or not. It seems while in some very cold weather, the heater suddenly stopped working on the passenger side and then about 10 minutes later it stopped on the driver side. The fan worked well but it blew out cold air only. If we did not have warm gear with us, i am certain we could have received severe frost bite.
Clockspring has failed twice and replaced twice and is failing again now.air bag, horn, cruise control and other components fail when clockspring fails.i feel this could be a potential life threatening situation if air bag fails in an accident because of clockspring failure.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.while driving 30 mph, the radio would turn on and off by itself.the failure occurred approximately three times before finally failing completely.the digital clock experienced the same failure and would periodically revert to 12:00.the contact asked the dealer and manufacturer about nhtsa campaign id number 04v531000, which stated that the 2001 town and country vehicles were recalled for electrical issues.the contact was informed that his vehicle was not included in the recall.the failure mileage was 140,000 and current mileage was 143,000.
2001 chrysler town & country, sliding side door motor failed very quickly. Chrysler refuses to fix problem since i'm not original owner. Also, liftgate motor failed about the same time and again, chrysler refuses to fix under warranty. Both doors are hard to open due to this problem.

Key does not turn in ignition. "jiggle and pray" till the key turns and vehicle starts.

I bought chrysler my t & c awd 3.8 lxi in 2001, in nov. 2005 it's wiring harness got corroded due to manufacturing defect and chrysler replaced it with new wire harness on 11-29-2005 at no charge at 44,265 miles.on december 23, 2014. I was driving in san francisco near golden gate bridge and noticedmy van started sudden acceleration and strong rubber burning smell started filling the passengercabin. It was obvious, soon my van will be in flame, thus i pulled over in nearby parking lot and got it towed away fourth plus miles.i have complete service record of this van that it is very well maintained car and serviced at regular intervals at chrysler dealership each and every time. The most recent service and preventive maintenance was done at fremont chrysler dealership at 122690 miles on september 05, 2014 at a cost of $1601.49. I did every thing the dealership recommended in their safety inspection.after above service the car was not running smooth, thus i t was taken back to dealership on october 14, 2014 at 122903 miles to check the issue. They return back without any job done saying they could not find any thing wrong. It was driven few more miles and it's wire harness burned and they said wire shorting inside the harness was the cause of its sudden acceleration also. I have opened case #26205598 with chrysler but they have not decided yet what they want to do. It is very unusual for a car to burn two wire harnesses in a span of less then 125 k miles. Their harness have manufacturing defects. It almost burned my car down, it was saved due to my alertness and immediately pulling it over to safety.
2001 chrysler town & country purchase 4.5 yrs ago. One year into purchase, abs lights on, extended warranty replaced abs system. Lights kept coming on, took in 2-3 times, said they couldn't fix, didn't know why. Later, window wouldn't roll up/down on passenger side, radio quit working. Took to a shop & was told that at some point, the battery leaked (before i purchased) and the entire wiring harness was eaten by the acid/ this was covered up at some point because the wires had been wrapped in electrical tape. It is very unsafe to put the entire wiring harness underneath the battery, if a battery goes bad of course it will eat the wiring.
Electrical battery/no start had vehicle less than 4 months with a dead battery in driveway.dealer said it was our problem.purchased new battery and starting noticing a "bucking" or "surging" as you were driving.after the repair attempt for the surging and bucking it would also stall while driving in parking lots, stopping at stop lights, backing out of parking spaces/driveways.when this happened you lost all power in vehicle. Had to be put back in park to restart.sometimes would take 4 or 5 tries before you could actually be "on the road".dealer claimed couldn't verify.they did however on second visit replace whole transmission.we only had 32,000 miles on it.it was in shop for that repair for 23 days.still didn't correct problem.they replaced that pcm or a bcm not sure which. On invoices it mentions both so not sure if they did both or a typo on their part.irregardless of which part what ever they did altered my odometer by adding approximately 2 thousand miles to my vehicle.dealer states can't fix it as that would be tampering with odometer.vehicle still bucks and surges and have called out tow truck on at least 2 other occasions for a complete no start/power. It has been in the shop at two different dealerships for more than 6 visits..still isn't fixed. So it has the battery issue and the stalling issue.now of course it also has the odometer issue.we have had problems with the rear air conditioner but dealer stated that was the way it was made.also have had some black molding/stripping fall off of windows/sliding door.haven't done anything about that as the stalling and no start problems are more important.got no satisfactory response from dealer or chrysler so have contacted a lemon lawyer.hope no else has to go through what we did.*nlm

Starting last october the battery went dead after the doors were open for three hours. Two months later the battery went dead again while setting in the garage and not being driven for three days. Took it to my dealer-thelen chrsyler in bay city-and after checking it found nothing wrong. About ten days later after setting in the garage for 3 or 4 days it went dead again. Thelen chrsyler performed a more thorough check and apparently fixed something which they thought was wrong, but still wasn't certain that the problem was permanently repaired. The battery was thoroughly checked and found to be ok. Drove to arizona for the winter and in february the battery again went dead after the van was setting for five days without being driven. About three weeks later while loading the van for the return trip home and having three doors open for 2 or 3 hours the battery again went dead. The battery was again thoroughly checked and found to be ok. On every occasion a quick jump by a wrecker service starts the engine and in 20 minutes everything is ok. As long as the van is driven every day or two we don't have a problem. But, if the van sets for three days or longer or if the doors are open for 2 or 3 hours the battery goes dead. It appears as though there is a very slow drain in the electrical system that leads to a dead battery. The problem started before the expiration of the 36,000 mile warranty.

Dt:the contact states the battery in her vehicle exploded.this caused the battery to leak acid and corrode the battery cables.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and they stated the battery had corroded.other mechanics state the battery could explode only if it had not been bolted down properly or if the wires were not attached correctly.the vehicle is still at the dealership, but no corrections have been made.

Between 09/25/05 and 01/25/06 i have spent over$9,000.00 in repairs to my 2001 town and country.all electrical related. Van has stalled and left us stranded numerous times. Fuses, fuel relays, electrical harness damaged, overhead console replaced, rear door switches replaced, transmission module. Speedometer, doors will work one minute and not the next.check engine light comes on everytime and is on now.... I see there have been numerous complaints on these same issues.i wonder how many more are having the same problems that don't get reported. I have also spent hundreds of dollars on rental cars everytime the dealer has the car for weeks ata time. After 2 different chrysler dealers worked on it you would think it could be fixed. It appears they are more interested in trading me out of it than admitting they can't fix it. I wish they had told me that $9,000. Dollars ago.

2001 chrysler town & country minivan-multi-passenger/ oct 1st 2005.was driving into a burger king drive-thru with the air-conditioning on. Suddenly there was a metallic kind of noise like a crunching on the right side where the air-conditioning system is located, then the vehicle started to lose power. I turned the air off and the noise stopped. After leaving burger king the air was turned back on, the same noise occurred; later smoke started billowing from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken in today 10/04/05 to southeast automotive, who informed me that the compressor was the problem. I referred them to the warranty of the vehicle (not chrysler) who informed them that there is a bulletin out on this same problem.the dealer claims that they were not aware of this. Anyway i was told that chrysler will fix the problem.currently there is a problem with the brakes on the right side of the vehicle. They are squealingand at the same time there is another noise on that end like struts or bearings or some other part is lose. It occurs when i brake or accelerating after i have stopped or when i turn the wheel of the vehicle. I asked the dealership to also check the brakes since they had just fixed both of them back on 3/14/05. They said that they drove it and do not detect any noises.i am concerned about this also, because it feels like the brakes are going to fail or that some other part on the right wheel of the vehicle is going to come loose at some point and become a danger to my family and i. A couple of months ago the engine died and all instrument panels went out while going up my drive-way. On another occasion the power window on the driver's side suddenly stopped working. Had to turn the engine off and wait for about two minutes before attempting to close again. One other thing that concerns me is that when in reverse the vehicle moves forward freely like if in the "drive mode".
Crash test by the insurance institute for highway safety shows that fuel leak after an offset frontal crash resulted in a catastrophic fire.
During normal driving vehicle began to experience rough engine operation, flashing engine indicator appeared on dash and within 15 seconds vehicle stalled out and was braked to a stop on a hillside.all attempts to restart vehicle were fruitless and it had to be towed to the nearest dealer's shop.after two full days in the shop it was determined that the main wiring harness chafed on the side of the transmission and shorted.this blew a fuse, burned out the coil and the throttle position sensor.the solution consisted of repairing and resecuring the harness to prevent chafing, a new coil and a new throttle position switch were installed.selling dealer indicated that this was the fifth vehicle with this problem.this is obviously a manufacturing/design defect which could be easily avoided.the consequence of this failure could have been much worse if the short and the subsequent loss of power and control occured during highway driving, especially in traffic at high speed.

2001 chrysler town & country passenger window won't close.
We have had numerous intermittent electrical problems(tachometer quits, window wont roll up,heated seat quit working, rear window wiper quit)then on 9-13-02 the transmission failed twice within a few minutes time, the second time resulted in a car accident with injuries.
Drivers window will not go up.have read hundreds of complaints online.some say chrysler knows about it but not enough to recall from insiders while some dealers deny knowing, even though friends are employees there and repair 2-3 per week.oops caps.
All the instrument controls (including the odometer reading) were going all over the place.for example; rpms would go from 0-3 and back, fuel would go from e-f and everywhere in between, speed would flucuate from 40-110 etc.this would all happen at once with all the panels.took to dealer and could not find problem and diagnostic testing did not reveal that there ever was a problem.five days later same exact problem except now the temperature gauge was also affected.stopped at another dealership and they also could not detect that there was a problem although they could see that the displays were still not working correctly.after a call to engineers the only thing they could think of was the instrument cluster panel was defective.

Radio shorted out in hot and humid weather conditions when a/c was in use. After several episodes of shorting out, all lights on the instrument panel also shorted out and radio/cd/tape unit was non-functioning from that day, 8/1/05, until present.when dealer investigated, said water was leaking into radio and caused short to back speakers. Dealer fixed instrument panel but could not fix radio/tape/cd unit. Subsequently, in january 2005, i read that chrysler had issued a recall for 2001 vans with this problem because a fire could result in the rear speaker, but it only recalled units with the basic radio, not the combination radio/cd/tape unit as in our van. Our unit is thus excluded from the recall by the vin number. Numerous attempts to get chrysler to expand their recall have been unsuccessful---they have merely "documented my complaint." will it take a catastrophic fire to get them to expand the recall? not to mention that we have lived without a radio/cd/tape player for a year while we have attempted to get this resolved! the vents over the radio have allowed a/c condensation to short the radio out completely and i want the unit replaced asap!
1. Entire dash lights and indicators malfunctioned.2. No speedometer, gas gauge, turning indicators, compass, etc.3. Replacement of cluster assembly and cluster instrument panel.cost $ 812.00 not covered under warranty.

Early total failure of ac clutch, compressor and belt.
We purchased this van on 7/31/01.the a/c compressor has been replaced three times and some other a/c part was repaired as well.the transmission completely failed causing the car to stop on the freeway with my wife and two small children in the van.there have been other less critical problems repaired under the 3/36 warranty as well.chrysler gave us their 7 yr./100,000 mile service contract for free after i demanded a buyback (7-1-02 letter) after the transmission failed. They declined a buyback because the problem had been repaired.after the a/c was last repaired, i wrote again (5-12-03) and demanded a buyback or replacement. They referred it to their third-party impartial services group (isg) to set up a replacement. Communications have been initiated with us for a replacement, but we may want a buyback instead.when i verbally asked isg about a refund, they said it wasn't authorized. I sent a follow-up fax on 5-26-03 asking for the details of a refund under california law.i am awaiting a response.
Upon starting the vehicle. It will start however once consumer gets going, the vehicle will continuously cut off. The dash board lights illuminated, but the check engine light does not come on. Once it cut offthe consumer lost the power steering. This problem happened once the weather changes and starts to get cold out. Please provide any further information.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 40 mph the vehicle overheated without warning.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined the hoses to the rear heater had leaked and needed to be replaced.
My van has a severe gas smell everytime i drive it and it has cost me and my children to suffer from severe migranes i am a single mother of 5 kids with a fixed income and do not have the money to pay or repairs i amstill paying for the vehicle i still owe 4000 on it and noone ever told me about recalls on this vehicle till i took it to my mechanic i have other issues as well i get regular oil changes and for some reason the engine got so hot it shot the bearings in the rods to the oil pan it is going to cost me over 300 dollars in repairs and also the ball joint snapped on the front right side there is just one thing after another going wrong with this van it is in nice physical shape but it seems like i get one thing fixed and something goes wrong is there anything i can get done about this? like i said i am still paying on it so it is not like i can just go out and get another car to replace it i have been without it for over a month now and i have to have it for my kids.
The check engine light illuminated and dealer could not diagnose why.the dealer first suggested that it was due to gas cap not being tightened enough, but that was not the case.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer six times but they could not determine the cause. *nlm
T&c ex 2001-steel lines (2) for rear heater rusted through leaking out all its fluid.(hoping there is no damage to engine). These lines go from engine compartment to just under the vehicle. Replacement lines were made of aluminum at a cost of $149 +6% tax. (was given a slight discount on price)loss of fluid was $21.58 + 6% tax. Labor done by self.
Heater tubes rusted and lost of all coolant suddenly. This tube runs from the frontto the rear heater element. This tube is 2" from the exhaust pipe. Definitely a poor design.
Coolant lines going to rear heater/ac unit in 2001 chrysler town and country rusted out and failed suddenly.all coolant lost. Lines corroded where they pass within 2" of exhaust pipe.clearly a design defect.dealer charged over $400.00 to replace the steel lines with new redesigned aluminum lines.
I purchased a 2001 chrysler t&c new on 9/10/2001. Presently i have 38,000 miles on it. First item replaced was the sway bar at about 30,000 mi. Then on 5/22/07 the tie rods had to be replaced due to front wheel play. On 8/13/2007 after arriving on vacation, the next morning i went to a local store about 4 miles from the resort. On the way back the van started to over heat and the alarm sounding. I pulled over and waited for it to cool. After arriving at the resort i checked the coolant. Remaining was about 4 1/2 quarts of the required amount. I filled it to capacity and ran engine noticing coolant leaking. I had it towed to a chrysler dealer. They were able to place it on a lift immediately advising me that the dual coolant tubes made of steel pipe had rusted under the van on the front passenger side. I had 37,800 mi at this point. Repairs cost $423.22. Amazingly chrysler changed the replacement tubes with aluminum tubes. I noticed in readingreports regarding my same problem, many owners are having the same situation. Surprisingly this was not covered by my extended warranty along with the tie rod replacement. All the vehicles i have ever owned never needed tie rod replacements. Regarding the use of steel to run coolant under a vehicle to the rear heater knowing road salts, rain, etc have a devastating effect on this metal, chrysler engineering goofed at the cost of the customer, avoiding listing this part under extended warranty. At this point having owned a 1990 dodge caravan with 2 transaxles replaced and giving chrysler another chance to prove themselves in building a better vehicle i guess i overestimated them along with placing my faith in their company. I have sent customer assistance my complaint and bill for the coolant pipe replacement placing little hope in reimbursement. Now i see why the american car manufacturers are loosing out to foreign car manufacturers.
Gentlemen,i own a chrysler town & country minivan (2001 model lxi) with about 33,000 miles on it. Recently i took the van to my local dealer for its regular oil change and to have a tire rotation and alignment performed. While performing this service the dealer service consultant told me that the lines from the front heater to the rear heater were corroded to the point where the lines were about to break and/or leak coolant and should be replaced.they showed me the area and sure enough the area behind the cross member immediately behind the front wheel had the mounting bracket rusted off completely and the line itself for about 4 inches just behind the bend to go up in front of the firewall had metal flaking off and was about to give way. I have marked the area on the enclosed figure 6 from your service manual. The corroded area was a few inches in front of the rubber line which acts as a connection from the metal front heater line to the metal underbody line to the rear heater. For your information no coolant has been added or changed in this vehicle since its original delivery with the factory installed coolant.i believe that this line should not have corroded this rapidly (five years and low mileage) and that chrysler should reimburse me for this repair even though the warranty has expired. This is bad design and material selection. In this day and age no lines of this type should deteriorate this rapidly even in a section of the country where salt is used in the winter on the highways. Even more important is the possibility of complete loss of coolant and the safety hazard of a major failure. You should seriously consider a recall inspection and replacement in those areas of the country where winter salt is used.
Along with the many others that i have read about, i too have experienced the loss of coolant from a poorly designed and protected coolant tube made of poor quality, non-rustprotected, sheetmetal that runs under the car to deliver coolant to the rear seat heating core.i guess i am lucky, as mine took 6 years to fail and be replaced by an aluminum, non-corrosive or rusting replacement tube at the cost of $448.00.it would only make common sense that this part be recalled by chrysler and replaced for free due to their negligence in design and lack of thought of cars that reside in areas of the country that corrosive elements are used in the winter to make roads safer to remove ice. They just won't face up to the fact it was a very poor design to use low quality metal that will rust out. I have been a chrysler customer since the 1970's (71 duster, 86 dodger lancer es, 90 lebaron convert, 91 plymouth voyager, 96 dodge caravan es, 98 sebring convert, 01 town & country, 03 sebring convert) and this will be my last chrysler as i am ready to replace my 01 t&c, but i have seen quality and care of loyal customers seriously decline since 03.i will replace my t&c with a honda passport or hyundai entourage or buick enclave.when the latest purchaser of chrysler corp. Finds out how many customers they have lost due to their attitude toward a former loyal customer base, they too will be selling chrysler just like mercedes benz did last year.with the great reputation for respecting their customers and large bank roll that toyota has, our "big 3" could be all owned by offshore finances and referred to as "the big one".a word for people considering buying a used chrysler product mini van, stay away from those with rear heat & a/c, as it will only be an added expense of 4-600 dollars in the future for something you have no means to prevent or protect or are even made aware of by chrysler/car dealers.
The vehicle made a knocking noise in the front end.the dealer replaced the front suspension strut, strut mount, front sway bar and sway bar link.the rear end of the vehicle also made noise.the dealer replaced the transfer gear set.the vehicle also experienced a whining noise in the steering wheel.the dealer replaced the spring clock along with the shroud stabilizer.power steering fluid due it being clog and caused the steering to whine when turned.the rear lift gate would not open with the remote.faulty front rotors squeaked when applied.the drivers side window would not go up due to a faulty regulator.the cruise control would not disable when the brakes were applied and the brakes would not work when the cruise control was engaged.the rear windshield wipers were inoperative.the engine made noise when started.the timing chain failed and caused the check engine light to illuminate.the o-rings failed and caused fuel odor inside the vehicle.*scc *nlm
Driving down the road made a right turn and airbag light came on then went off. Tried to have it diagnosis but is not listed in computer. Air bag light comes on and off all the time did a search on computer and alot of people have this problem says it is a spring or something in steering column this should be a recall because of all the people with the same problem. Also corroded coolant lines to rear ac/heater lost all antifreeze and van overheated because of this.
Consumer states while driving, the vehicle would shut off causing consumer to pull off the road. Dealer has replaced clock spring, air conditioner compressor, transmission module sensor and stillcould not duplicate or correct the problems.provide any further information.*ph
While driving vehicle completely shutdown without warning. Dealer notified.
On and around the 24th of june 04 my a/c compressor clutch locked up while driving around locally. This failure put undue tension on the serpentine drive belt, resulting in increased tension and extreme overheating of the belt (smoke poured out under the hood).luckily i was driving slowly, as i switched off the a/c before the drive belt broke with no additional damage being done to the engine or vehicle (overheating due to water pump stoppage) or loss of control due to power steering failure. I took the vehicle in for servicing, as i had received a document from chrysler stating that the warranty on the a/c had been extended to 7 years and/or 70,000 miles due to quote lack of lubrication issues (i can supply this document if requested).the above dealer replaced the a/c unit and belt under warranty, but as soon as the vehicle left the shop a whining sound was heard from the engine compartment. I traced this; to the serpentine drive belt side of the engine(3.8litre v6 one drive belt).on going back to the dealer they replaced water pump/ tensioner and alternator, but i was made to pay for these repairs.i contend that a general recall should have been initiated for this defectand that any secondary damage caused by the said defective part should be replaced at the manufacture expense, as its their liability not the customer.
Serpentine belt wears quickly. Dealer is unable to fix after 4 attempts. The dealer told me my only remedy was to file a lemon law complaint but i fear that if the belt breaks before this issue is resolved the sudden loss of power assist on the steering may make it very difficult for my wife to control the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated the factory installed tape deck/cd component would not operate in the play mode nor eject properly. In addition, the air conditioner failed to function when activated and the faulty air conditioner condenser was replaced twice. Both power sliding doors locks also failed to function which resulted to the replacement of the motor. The previous repairs on the vehicle where performed by an authorized dealer on separate occasions. Recently, the contact discovered two recalls associated with the prior defects under nhtsa campaign id numbers: 01i003000 (latches/locks/linkages: doors: latch) and 04v531000 (equipment: electrical: radio/tape deck/cd etc.). The vin was not included in either recall campaign. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Do to clockspring failure , many people could behurt or killed because horn, & airbags no working. This is due to bad parts car buyer's shouldn't have to pay for replacement.

My airconditioner has never really blew very cold but, when it stopped getting cold.i took the van into heritage chrysler in alexandria va.the service advisor instructed me that the ac unit needed some parts replace at a cost of $800.i need the ac to work in the van so i paid the fee.two days later i recieved a letter dated 2 week prior to the date, stating the there was a recall on the ac unit.i instructed me to take my van to the nearest chrysler dealership for the repair at not cost.this angered me because i was just charged for the same recall at heritage chrysler in alexandria va.i called chrysler and they attemped to mediate a refund from the dealership but heritage chrysler declined a refund, so chrysler requested that i send my reciepts to them and the would refund me only 50% for the coverd repair. I will never purchase another chrysler product again....
I brought car in for analysis for the power steering problem several times while still under warranty and was re-assured that i was experiencing normal noises. About a few months later when the car was now not under warranty the rack and pinion failed. And upon picking up the vehicle on 08/09/2002 i noticed that the airconditioning was not working . Then was told that now the condenser for the ac has now failed.

Re: nhtsa campaign id# 04v531000,recall date: 11/01/2004chrysler town and country van radio recall. Have had 2 radios in my van short circuit, the most recent one on 12/27/04. I asked chrysler to replace it at the dealership, their customer care line and an escalation line, and have boon told they will not replace it under the warranty, and that my mileage of 64,000 is too high to warrant a replacement - of a radio. I am aware of the recall notice, and was told my vin# 2c8gp641r265979 is not included in the recall. I believe my vin# should be included in the recall as the van exhibits the exact issue that has been described in the recall notice. I was told to file a complaint with your organization to help resolve this issue. Please let me know what further action is required, thanks.
Consumer concerned about recall for 2001 chrysler town and country limited 2 min-vans. The consumer stated thestations on the radio could not be changed and the sound could not be controlled.the consumer was told his vehicle was not included in the recall.
Dt: the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign id04v531000 concerning the equipment:electrical:radio/tape deck/cd etc. This vehicle is experiencing the same problemsas indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due tovin. Updated 12/27/05.
While driving at any speed, the vehicle will not come out of low gear. The dealer replaced the tcm module on the vehicle.also while driving at any speed, there will be a noise coming from the front wheels.the dealer needed to replace the sway bar bushings.the automatic lift gate on the vehicle would no move up or down on command and needed replacement.the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem.*ph
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. While parked, the contact activated the low beam headlights and noticed that the driver's side headlight had not illuminated. When the contact activated the high beam headlights the passenger side headlight did not illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact replaced the headlight bulbs but the failure continued. Also, while driving approximately 10 mph in rainy weather, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and the battery warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle regained power steering independently. The failure continued intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
Driving and lights turn on and off. The headlights even take turns going off on left and right side,i received ticket. New bulbs put in and still have dancing on and off headlights. Mechanic looked at and can't figure out. Car can't be driven at night.
Almost 90% of communication lightsdo not lightup. There isn't enough lighting to seeair condioning/ radio,/indshieldwipers,etc. Dealer stated that wasthe way it wasmanufactured.
2001 chrysler town and countrylights flicker and also dim for no apparent reason; as of this time the dealer has been unable to determine with certainty what the problem is.
Head lights flicker and will shut off with no reason or warning. All lights flicker and go off. Interior lights on dashboard etc.
The contact stated that while driving at night approximately 45 mph, the driver's side headlight failed to illuminate. The contact engaged the low beam headlight and continued in operation. On a separate occasion the similar failure occurred with the passenger's side headlight. The malfunction occurred intermittently. The contact replaced the headlight bulbs himself at different times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fcm module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included on any recalls. However, there was an open and closed investigation under nhtsa action number pe05004 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The vin was unavailable.
All of the brake lights, including the high center one, suddenly failed without any indication to the operator.the vehicle was driven for an unknown number of days in this condition until a near-accident revealed the defect.the vehicle was used to transport my wife and 9 year old son to and from school and on various errands around town.my wife and son were almost struck from the rear by another vehicle whose driver did not realize that they were braking for a traffic light.the next day, the vehicle was returned to the dealer for repair.after determining that the bulbs, fuse and brake switch were operational, the dealer replaced the intelligent power module (ipm) which supplies power to the brake light circuit.i do not know if the old module is available for inspection.the dealer stated that he had never seen this type of failure before.
Nar 04/10/2003the consumer experienced four different occasions where the vehicle was malfunctioning, the check engine would flash on and the vehicle would start shaking, and wouldn't move. The car has been placed in the shop several times and the problem was not identified until after the 4 incident and it was determined that the vehicle needed and entire transmission. The consumer has made repeated inquiresto the dealership and still no response, the vehicle is unsafe and cannot be adequately repaired.please give acceptable solution in repairing vehicle.
- the contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and county. While driving at 30 mph the headlights turned off without warning. The contact stated that the headlights remained off for approximately 3-4 seconds. This occurred without warning. The vehicle had not been inspected to determine the reason for the failure. The current mileage was 66000.
While driving, internal and external lights flicker off and on, unpredictably happened at least 12 times over past 6 mos.chrysler dealer alleges nothing can be done unless they are able to replicate the problem.dealer also said to call chrysler directly since they can't fix it.chrysler said dealer needs to fix it.
The headlights go out periodically without warning.they can stay off for as much as 10 seconds and this is quite dangerous since i live in the country with no street lights.have had at the dealer's twice and can not get it resolved.they can find nothing wrong with the vehicle.this has been going on for about 6 months.
While driving headlights flickered intermittently. At times the headlights went out completely for a minute or two.this caused a distraction to the consumer's view during night hours. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Headlights flicker on and off.
Purchased a used 2001 chrysler town & country from park jeep chrysler in burnsville, minnesota . The vehicle has a issue with flickering headlights, dashlights and every light on the vehicle . Brought in three times, they replaced the dashboard light switch , this did nothing for the flicker . Now they say they will not do anything to fix this issue and they told me i must have light sensitivity . This is ?!@#$% and i am upset with the way they tried to resolve the problem . The flicker is very bad for night time driving .
My 2001 chrysler town and country has had problems with the headlights flickering and going out for short periods of time. The happens almost every time i use my headlights at night. I put 999 as the number of incidents as a default. I do not know how many times i have driven during this problem. I have taken it to two chrysler dealerships and they cannot fix the problem. I am very concerned that someone in my family may die as a result of this technical failure.
2001 chrysler voyager minivan; the headlights go out periodically without warning. This is a hazard. Mechanic has not been able to figure out the problem.
I have a 2001 chrysler voyager and the headlights flicker periodically while driving.this have been going on for several years now.i took the van to the repair shop several time but the problem has never been resolved.it can be dangerous when the lights go out while driving at night.
Headlights clouding over. Plastic lens have a haze that block the light.
Dt:the headlights flickeredand at times went out. .thishappened for the past six months to a year.the vehicle wastaken to the dealer, but they could notdiagnose it.the dealer didnot test drive vehicle at night.daimler chrysler was contacted and they knew nothinganything about it.the bulbswere changed, but problem recurred.
Lexan headlamps are cloudy and reduce visibility at night.automakers should not be allowed to use such an inadequate product.it is a safety hazard and should be corrected.this never occurred with the older sealed beam headlights.
Headlights flicker on and off.
While driving at nightheadlights went outfor approximately 5-10 seconds before they come back on.consumer took vehicle to dealer, but they could not find any problems.
Driver's side sliding door will not work in cold weather. It is usually warm in southern la, but in the early mornings while taking my children to preschool, i could not get my son's sliding door to open. It always worked when i took it to the dealer, but several school employees and others have seen that the door does not work either with the electronic key, button on the door itself, or with the overhead button located above the dashboard.oddly, also only when the weather is cooler, my high beam on my driver's side headlight will not work. The headlights will both come on, but as soon as i depress the button for high beams, the driver's light goes off completely. Is there a correlation since they are both on the driver's side? perhaps something electrical? we bought the vehicle used last september 2004 and almost immediately started having problems with the sliding door as soon as the weather was cooler. I am guessing at the october 20/04 date, but i know i started having problems in oct of last year shortly after we'd purchased the vehicle.i had problems virtually every early morning in the winter from oct-feb, and the same thing just started again as the mornings are once again cooler (cooler in baton rouge means around 45 f).the diagnostics they have run at my chrysler dealership keep coming up empty and they must think it's all in my head. At least 2 other mechanics from where i have my oil changed have witnessed the problems with the doors and lights firsthand, but never those at the dealership. Is this happening to others with the same make and model?
Entire headlights will go out while driving for a short period of time then come back on again.this may happen 4-5 times in a 5 mile drive then not again until i drive the car on another occasion. When we went to have the vehicle fixed they told us the chrysler had just recalled all replacement parts off the shelves and that none would be available for 6-8 weeks.they also indicated that they had over 600 of these items on backorder from customer requests.i feel this must be a manufacture defect and should not be a cost that consumers should have to pay for.
The knob that is used to turn headlight's switch on and offoverheated afterengine had been running for about an hour.consumer believes a fire may start as result.
The turn signal indicator in my 2001 chrysler town and county started to fail. When i indicate that i wish to turn right the left turn signal comes on outside the vehicle. I consider that the component failing in this manner where the opposite turn signal comes on to be a serious safety issue. I spoke to the manufacturer (daimler chrysler) about this issue and they said that the component was out of warranty.
Consumer is concerned with a potential gas leak which may occur if the vehicle is involved in a frontal collision at a low speed, consumers vehicle was manfacturerd prior to the time the manufacturer redesigned and began installing replacement parts to correct the problem, consumer is requesting that the part be replaced or be given a new vehicle entirely that does not have a gas leak problem.
We had to replace the fuel pump in our town and country and it was a carquest aftermarket fuel pump. Ever since we put it in about a year ago we have had major issues with the evap system, now the car starts really hard and. When we drive it seems to want to stall out going down the road. This is not safe if the car stalls going 50 mph we are going to loose our steering and control. This issue has been on going with the evap since we bought it used in 2010, the other thing auto acceptance (where we purchased in 2010) did was give us a new gas cap which did not help the issue at all... This is a serious issue with this aftermarket product and if i would have known would have never spent the money on it. I am concerned with our safety as we have 3 children that ride in it as well.
Fuel filler neck assembly was badly rusted and had to be replaced to prevent fuel leaking and keep air pollution control system operational.
Purchased the vehicle used.after 2nd or 3rd fuel fill, the engine light went on.it has stayed on.we had it checked at our local pep boys and we were told the fuel filler neck is bad and that chrysler is going through them at a rate of 100 per week.i feel a recall should be issued and that consumers should not be forced to pay for a part that is obviously so defective on the vehicle that the rate of replacement is 100 per week.
The insurance institute for highway safety has conducted two 40 mph crash tests and both resulted in a fuel leak. They determined that "a weakness in the design of a circular fitting where the fuel lines exit the fuel tank". Chrysler redesigned and began.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.the contact often hears a lot of rattling noises underneath the vehicle.the failure was heard while driving 5 mph, but occurs at any speed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for the same failure.the dealer stated that the failure was caused by the front suspension and they replaced the bolts.within six months, the failure recurred.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 70,000. Updated 03/13/08.*ljthe sway bar links and bushings were replaced. The consumer stated when she made a turn the steering wheel would become stiff. The dealer replaced the power steering pump and rack as well as the power steering reservoir. The fuel pump was replaced.
Fuel filler neck corrosion and failure.
Transmission failed, and the wheels locked up.*ph the problem was caused by a violent bucking of the vehicle as the transmission failed and locking up the front end of the vehicle.the initial bucking up of the vehicle occurred between 15 to 20 mph, and the locking up of the wheel at 5 mph.vehicle was towed to dealership and service manager that parts for transmission was on back order and will be available at least a week.consumer decided to tow the vehicle to a different repair facility and was able to acquire the parts over night and repair the transmission.after the repair, the dealer presented the damaged transmission to consumer and it showed damage on the gears with most of it are in the gear's innermost part.also, the dealer's estimation was the cause of the problem was a bearing failure which led to a chain reaction and resulted to transmission lock-up.after the violent bucking from transmission failure, engine developed problem of misfiring which was caused by a bad fuel injector and coil pack in the number six cylinder.consumer believed that it was also caused by transmission failure.*la
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the vehicle suddenly stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The contact examined the vehicle and determined that the fuel injection wire harness was defective. The wire harness was replaced but the failure was not remedied. Also, the contact indicated that the rear hatch door would erroneously unlock intermittently. The failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Engine check light comes anda smell fromexhaust is oninsde and outside of vehicle. Dealer has confirmed thatinjectorswere leaking. Manufacturer stated therewas a recall onlyfor california residents.
I have not yet had an accident, but, based upon the recent ' reports wish to demand a recall of the 2001 daimler/chrysler minivans, as their fuel tanks leaked on more than one occasion during testing.please help force this recall.i have contacted daimler chrysler via mail and email, and, thus far, they have been unresponsive.thank you!
There was a quarter size hole in the vehicles fuel tank which caused fuel to leak. The dealer was notified but could not explain how fuel tank was puncture. *nlm
2001 chrysler town and country experiencing dozens of defects.***no answer required***. *mrthe consumer's vehicle continues to experience an issue which was coverecd twice under the vehicle's recall yet still has not been corrected.for the third time the check engine light has illuminated.the technician was unable to find anything wrong, but a small vapor leal from the gas tank is suspect.the dealer charged the consuemr$115. To replace the corroded plastic gas cap.the consumer believes that either the gas cap is inadequate or there is fault in the electrical sensors.
Dt: went in to have oil changed, told she was leaking coolant. She tookvehicle to chrysler, who said they have to replace the rear heater lines.they are now replacing the rear heater lines with tube supply and return.it was corroded. They are not notifying customers that they have these faulty heater lines.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that there were two leaks within the fuel system. When the contact refueled the vehicle to capacity, the fuel gauge would only read that the tank was half full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the egr system exhibited a large leak and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle could not pass state inspection with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 129,000.
Drivers side sliding door power sliding function stopped working, then short time later the door wont open at all, manually or power. Took van to the dealer said it needed a new latch at a price of 250.00 dollars plus the cost of getting the door open and replacing the latch same vehicle the powerlift gate or rear door power function hasn't work since i bought it took it back replacedthe control module 3 times still doesn't doesn't work.
Power lift gate stopped working by remote key or interior latch release, will only open manually from outside.the problem has not been repaired or replaced.the failure occurred within 50 miles after warranty expired.
The power sliding side door on a 2001 chrysler van opened automatically at 60 mph.these doors have been fixed before as they would open again after being closed but that only happened when vehicle was parked. Now it is happening while driving.

Intermittent air bag light.appears to be clockspring.also driver side sliding door automatic lock won't work.
I have a 2001 chrysler town and country, i have a problem with the power sliding door, this has now happened twice first time fed. 2005 and now dec. 2005. Both times it has happened it has been cold, single digit temp. When starting the car and the power sliding door is shut, the moter of the door kicks on and keeps trying to close the door, resulting from this, the door becomes ajar, and the auto slide door will not work plus the door will not shut the door latch freezes in the lock mode and the door will not close!!! this happened when i turn the car on, first time my kids were in the car the second time no one was in the car and the power slide door was never touched.
Many electrical problems, windows don't go up and down, radio and cd player does not work, fan on the heater does not come on at times, heated seats do not work, sliding door has come open while driving (very dangerous if you have kids).popping noise in the front suspension.still does it after being worked on.
Consumer shifted gear into park, but vehicle was not in park ,it was still in drive. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, andis waiting for explanation of cause.right rear seat recliner assemblies were replaced due to a rattling noise.sliding doors don't always completely shut, while driving they will open, dealer states this is the design of the door.
I have a 2001 town and country minivan with power side doors in the rear seat.both doors have failed -- they would not open properly (more heavy to open manually) with the power and as a result were very heavy to use manually. (this cost me close to $1,000 to repair; some sort of motor problem).now the rear hatch door is also broken and will not properly open but jams shut until one waits for the power attempt to stop and then work it manually.
Dt*:the contact stated the power lift gate does not always latch.the dealership adjusted the lift gate, but the problem persists.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v134000, regarding the lift gate lock.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.
I have a 2001 town and country min van with power side doors in the rear seat. The driver side door would not open properly (more heavy to open manually).currently, the rear hatch door broke in that it won't properly open with the key.it made noise and opened partially. Then,it won't fully open or close with motor. Manual manipulation will eventually get gate open/closed.
2001 town and country rear latch intermittent.automatic open feature stopped working.latch now stuck in open position.will not relatch.
While vehicle was parked, tailgate opened by itself.manufacturer was notified.
Thus is a 2001 vehicle with 45k miles - worst car i have ever owned for the first 18 months we had the car we complained at every visit about a groaning noise from the rear when in stop and go traffic - finally fixed after a year and a half9/01paint peeled off left passenger door - fixed by dealer 11/01radio stopped working - replaced under warranty 10/02 - sliding door hard to open - claimed to repair - still hard to open 10/02 - clunking noise over bumps in front end - replaced left side stabilizer bar link 4/02 - noise in rear when turning - replaced rear backing plate anchors 6/02air conditioner compressor replaced - under warranty -they took two weeks to fix this 6/02 engine losing power when driving - replaced tps 1/03rear wiper motor replaced - $150(car has 38k miles) 6/03 rear stabilizer bar - $250 7/03 rear wiper motor again - out of warranty - $150 9/03 driver window motor - $250 the worst of all - 11/03 - transmission needs to be totally replaced - $2700 - no warranty - car has 45k miles - calledchrysler and was told basically tough luck that i did not buy an extended warranty - the car just stopped moving - luckily we did not have an accident we have maintained this vehicle according to chrysler guidelines at the dealer since we bought it
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while traveling 65 mph, the transmission failed. The contact stated that there was a loud roaring sound emitted just prior to the failure. The contact was unable to shift the vehicle into gear after the failure occurred. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the transmission pump failed and the transmission would need to be replaced. The failure and current mileages were 180,000.
68 mph on highway- rush hour traffic- loud noise- van just stopped. No lights, warning, etc.transmission completely destroyed. Thankfully the kid behind me swerved well. Bruises from seatbelt & face to knuckles due to sudden stop- chyrsler& nhtsa know all about the 41te defective trannys- are you going to wait until someone or many die? 2nd tranny to fail in same manner.
My wife was killed when the gear shift engaged while she was putting groceries in the back of her van in the stores parking lot.there were no witnesses.florida state high patrol at the scene pieced together the likely events.when the car started rolling backward, she may have reached in the driver's side door to stop it.the door may have knocked her under the car, killing her instantly. This was reported to chrysler in 2014.i raise it again because of recent problems with gear shifts in later chrysler models. ... Updated 08/23/16

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnostic. The technician stated that the pcm would have to be replaced. The failure continued after the replacement of the pcm. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four different times. The pcm was replaced three times. The technician stated that there was no guarantee the replacement of the pcm would repair the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the pcm was not the cause of the failure. The mechanic stated that the power distribution box would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000.
47,000 on a single owner 2001 town and country - serviced regularly - fluids checked at oil changes.i also know of another 2001 town and country owner whose transmission went out at 52,000.
My wife and bought our town and country 2 months ago.we left the dealership thinking we had a reliable van.two weeks ago my wife was driving our four children to school when she was at the stop ligh and getting ready to move in to traffic when the van jolted foward and started to shake.immidetly the check engein light came on and she called me.i then called the dealership and they told me to bring it up.now the dealership is about 45 min. From my house.on the way up i lose power 3 times and then would get it to catch.i made it to there exit and lost all power and control.our van was towed in at our expence and we were called the next day to inform us the could not due the work it had to be sent out.when they placed it on the machine 4 numbers were regerstering.we then had to wait for a inspector to fly down to determin if the problem was under warranty.it was determined that it was and that the transfer pump and case were the problem and a new transsmission installed.we had to pay $249.00 because that was not covered under the warranty.we received our vechicle on thursday and on friday it was towed back to the dealership because any time you excerated it would shake the van.we were then told we could have a rental at there expence this was a hassel in its self wasting the whole day with getting one.we receved a call monday saying they couldn't get the problem to dublicate.and was once again returned to us on tuesday.today is wednessday and we are currently fighting with the dealership due to the fact the problem is still there.i am at my wits end.how can a vechicle that has 65,000 miles have so many problems.i choose this vechicle because the manuf. Has a good reputation.i just want my van to run right.to ensure my children and wife make it to and from work and school safely.besides the headacs we bothhave lose hours at work running back and forth and needs some help.thanks
While driving 70 mph engine light illuminated. Transmission lost power.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Vehicle lacks in acceleration, vehicle hesitateswhen shifting.problem can't be duplicated to find a remedy.*et
My wife was driving the 2001 chrysler town & country when she heard a noise. The check engine light went on. She immediately drove home cancelling the appointment she had, i took car to my mechanic. He placed the car on his computer and a code related to a transmission solenoid came up. He said the car was in "limp mode". This is something unique to chrysler transmissions.(car can go into 2nd gear only)he cleared the code and suggested to see if light came back. It did. I took car to a transmission specialist the following day. His computer pulled up a different code but it was related to the transmission. His code said it was the transmission control module, which was located in the front wheel well. He opened the wheel well to inspect the module. He said the module was rusted through and cracked. The replacement cost is estimated to be in the $400.00 range. The transmission mechanic said that he has seen a number of cases where the module becomes deteriorated primarily because of its location in the wheel well. It is an example of the engineers using "logic" in the placement of components. If this is a design flaw, i believe the replacement cost should be borne by the manufacturer. This is a potentially dangerous situation especially when on the highway at speeds above 35-40 mph.
While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled.driver was unable to restart vehicle, and had ittowed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanicdetermined that the transmission needed to be replaced.
Automatic transmission slams into a low gear while driving down the road.this happens once the "idiot light-engine" illuminates.part thatdealership wanted to replace was some sort of module which there were no parts for.part is on national back order from chrysler corporation.please describe details.
While driving 55 to 60 mph, consumer heard a loudunknown sound. Also, transmission indicator light was flashing. While pulling vehicle over consumer noticed vehicle would not accelerate. Vehicle was towed to dealership, and technician determined that transmission failed, and needed to be replaced. *al
We have had numerous intermittent electrical problems(tachometer quits, window wont roll up,heated seat quit working, rear window wiper quit)then on 9-13-02 the transmission failed twice within a few minutes time, the second time resulted in a car accident with injuries.
At approximately 52,000 the automatic transmission catostrophically failed while driving at 65 mph on interstate 55 near joilet, il.the failure had the effect of losing all power instantly while surrounded by traffic making it difficult to manuvear the car to the shoulder. The dealership was helpful in getting chrysler to assume some responsibility by providing a rebuilt transmission at no cost leaving me to pay labor, only.labor cost was $809.55.
My check engine light came on at 80,000 miles. I took it to a chrysler dealer for a diagnostic and they told me it was showing a converter clutch malfunction in the transmission. Well this ended up causing the transmission to lock up on me in the middle of the highway before i could get it replaced. My car is still in new condition to i do not know how the transmission went out. I have taken the car to mr transmission since it locked up and they said it is about $3,00 worth of repairs in the transmission. We were told the solenoid pack is what needs to be replaced.
Consumer noticed that after shifting vehicle from park to drive andwhen accelerator pedal was depressed vehicle would not move forward. Dealership serviced vehicle and noticed that transmission needed to be replaced.
2001 chrysler town & country transmission went out after 46000 miles car comes with a 3 yr 36000 warranty. $2600. To replace chrysler is putting the transmission designed for the 2.2 / 4 cylinder van in a 3.8 / 6 cylinder very poor design. The dealer says that there is a nation wide back order on their transmission. A class action suite needs to be started. *nlm
The vehicle's transmission failed.since the consumer already had the transmission repaired the manufacturer refused to reimburse the cost of the repair.
Transmission started a whining sound at about 48,000 miles. This sound is just audible when driving around town. However, after 2 hours on the highway at 65mph it becomes very pronounced. If engine is shut off for 10 minutes the loud whine is back to a "normal" level. This appears to affect nothing else in the vehicle's operation. But it certainly can't be considered normal. We fear taking the van on the road since something in the transmission appears ready for self distruction. Other than a failed battery at 2 years (about 46,000 miles) this is the only problem experienced. This t&c lxi with all the options except power tailgate and 52,000 miles (mostly highway) has been an excellent vehicle to date and this obviously coming transmission problem at this early stage is a disappointment to say the least.
On 2/28/05 my 2001 chrysler town and country engine light activated at the same time i noticed a burning chemical smell (burning transmission fluid).this was a prelude to a blown transmission which is what happened.the garage could not move my vehicle due to the wheel lock.i have 79,000 miles and have had nothing but problems with this vehicle and based upon many web boards i am not alone.in the past 4 years i have spent over $4,000 (on top of the $20,000 price tag) on vehicle maintenance that should not occur at 79,000 miles.to anyone reading this - pay the extra $$$ for a honda, toyota or nissan because you will get your money back!!!!
Transmission blew up at while driving. No injuries reported. All the gears were damaged beyond repair.
The check engine light came on on my 2001 town & country minivan.the very next day, the transmission failed.i had it towed to my chrysler dealer, where they told me that the planetary gear had failed causing catastrophic transmission damage, which required $2,700 worth of repairs.the vehicle only had 62,000 miles and had never been used as a tow vehicle.i would like an investigation into why a relatively newer vehicle should have this kind of catastrophic transmission failure at such a relatively low mileage.the vehicle had been dealer serviced.
Transmission control module, driving down the road and the check engine light came on then, i noticed that the rpms were at 4000 and the transmission wasn't shifting. My husband put it on the computer and it said it was the tcm failure this is a dealer only part at 336.00 with a 125.00 core charge and then it has to be programmed by the dealer. At a cost of 45.00 if you get the part and install yourself . If the dealer does it, it runs between 700 and 800 dollars. We found a parts place that send them out to be rebuilt for 255.00 plus shipping and handling . When i was looking for info on this part there was hundreds of complaints on forums on this same problem. This component is located in the driverside wheel well and when my husband removed it, it was very corroded with rust.
At any speed vehicle will not accelerate or maintain power. Dealer examinedvehicle anddeterminedthat a new transmission was needed.
At 50,000 miles my transmission went and chrylser will do nothing to help.a transmission sholud not go at this mileage.i was with my two little kids on a highway and we were lucky we didn't get killed.not only did chrylser refuse to help, i was treated so horribly by thier "customer service" person, i was astounded.chysler obviously has big transmissions problems and they can't possibly help all of us.they lost my vote.
I purchased the vehicle in november of 2002 used with 47,000 miles.the vehicle would buck when it switched to high gear.i took the vehicle back to the dealership at which time they replaced the torque converter.the vehicle then began a loud rattling noise when the air compressor was engaged.the dealer informed me that i needed a new air compressor, i refused the service noting that my air conditioner, defrost and all other functions were there.after a month, the final solution was a loose bolt holding the alternator.i have had the ignition replaced, this was the 2nd time in a year the vehicle left my family stranded. Now, a year and a half and 60,000 miles later, my transmission has once again failed with the diagnosis a torque converter problem.the repair requires a complete overhaul for a mere $2,500.most vehicles don't require a transmission be replaced even once, let alone twice or every 50,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.while driving 65 mph, the contact heard a loud noise and pulled the vehicle to the side of the road.the vehicle was towed to his residence and a mechanic stated that the transmission failed.the dealer stated that there was no recall and would have to be repaired at the owner's expense.the vehicle is currently being repaired by a certified mechanic.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 130,000.
Transmission would not shift into any gear but first.
My 2001 town and country has 46, 000 miles. With no prior warning it suddenly lost power and was unable to accelerate. A loud whining sound was heard. By the time i coasted into my neighborhood i had no power. Vehicle towed to dealership 2 days ago. Warranty up 2 months and 10000 miles ago. Was told probably would need new transmission. $1900 best scenario/$3300 worse case. Will not find out for 2 more days. Why would a car with 46000 miles need a new transmission. Other things that have happened that i haven't even ventured to get fixed due to financial issues include: back power latch will not work. I sometimes can't even get the hatch open manually. The sliding doors make an ungodly grinding noise when they open and close; my radio was replaced after approximately 11000 miles because it was short circuiting out the electrical components in the dash; i also had to have the front rotors replaced at 11000 miles(they were defective). Also, my front drivers seat power adjustments are broken( god know how much that would cost me to get fixed) my brakes have never felt "right" my husband hates to drive the van because it feels like the brakes are too soft and won't engage when needed. I have had them replaced at a different shop at 36,000 miles though i truly feel it is a mechanical flaw. Despite more times then i care to say of bringing it in to be checked the car still pulls to the right. Nothing has helped this matter. I guess the big thing that gets me is the transmission issues. I am truly discouraged. A 30000 dollar vehicle should not have these problems. I thought i was getting a higher end quality vehicle for $30000 but i guess all i got was an expensive lemon that i am stuck with because i still owe 2 years on it. Obviously by all the reports i have read the transmission is a big problem. Chrysler should own up to these problems and fix them for their customers or soon they won't have any customers left.
While driving and when shifting from first to second gear the entire vehicle vibrated.dealership overhauled the transmission , and replaced several transmission components, but the problem recurred.
While accelerating onto busy interstate i-80 my van suddenly experienced a limp-in mode. The van lunged and bucked and suddenly locked into 2nd gear , causing the van to lose acceleration.the truck that was behind me almost rear-ended me.the truck received no warning from me,it was as though i slammed on the brakes without hitting the brakes at all. This is an extremely serious defect.ihad the van towed, and serviced at a local chrysler dealer in pa. They checked the van and they were unable to duplicate the problem. The end result was to replace the relay to the transmission. I was toldthis might work, however we won't know for sure unless it happens again!!!!this can't happen again or next time i may not be around to tell about it.
Two cases of transmission failure requiring replacement at 41,000 miles and again at 80,000 miles (approximate) requiring extensive cost to repair, and towing cost, rental car cost for 6 days.
Transmission failure at less than 36,000 miles on chrysler 2001 town and country minivan. Had taken vehicle in one month prior for "slippage" of transmission.vehicle was returned with ntf.failure was catostrophic and transmission will be replaced with remanufactured transmission.as of the date of this filing, have not received my car back from dealership.was fortunate car failure occurred while pulling into gas station after a large bang had been heard to determine cause of failure.
Ny 2001 town & country with 39,000 miles is not 3 years old. The computer that operates the transmission went out and had to be replaced. It cost $450.00 to replace this item. After calling chrysler to complain about poor quality their response was that i should of purchased and extended warranty and there is nothing they can do for me. Maybe chrysler should consider building a better product. In fact, i am going to sell this vehicle and never ever purchase a chrysler product again. They don't stand behind their products. *la
While driving vehicle stopped. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, and dealer indicated thattransmission was defective.
Automatic transmission failure@ 46,500 miles in 2001 chrys town & country:check engine light on steady; dlr said diagnostics indicate tyranny overheating; changed oil & filter.light came on again one day later; dealer replaced tyranny solenoid pkg for $350.one week later, with no check engine light, car bucked upon stopping @ end of h'wy off-ramp & briefly refused to move in any fwd gear.took to dealer who kept it two days but said nff, couldn't duplicate symptom.2-3 days later took the vehicle on a turnpike trip.while cruising @ speed limit under cruise control, vehicle bucked & went into "limp-mode" as evidenced by tach moving from 2k to 3k rpm.pulled to side of road; vehicle would not move in any gear(no chk engine light).had car towed 85 miles to same dealer (south hills chrysler-jeep) in peters twp, pa.had to fight hard with dlr and with daimler chrys cust svc, but dealer replaced tyranny; we pd $1100.poor quality and poorer dealer service integrity.we were happy to get concessions, but the bad taste remains.seems many others have had similar widespread experiences.other potential problem symptoms include: continuing "steering shudder" with no cause, auto rear lift gate will not open or close automatically with no fix after multiple trips & complaints and too-easily-warped front rotors that cause brake pedal pulsation.letter was written to chrysler customer service in auburn hills complaining about excessive cost of solenoid replacement and poor service/treatment by dealer.bitter verbal complaints were made to the dealer service mgr and the general mgr as well.customer service did assist mediation of the tyranny problem and did offer a concession on the cost of the solenoid.we have not yet rec'd the monetary refund promised, but it's been only three weeks.
Engine light came on.had car into repair shop but they could not find problem.after retrieving vehicle and driving home, car bucked and lunged me forward.i was barely able to pull over the side of the highway.fortunately, no one was following too closely.had to have car towed as it no longer would move in any gear.car smelled as if something was burning.transmission needs replacing.car just went over 41,000 miles while i was driving it home!will try to see if chrysler will cover costs, but somehow i think i will be on my own.as many transmission failures as there are documented just on this website, one would think it should warrant an investigation at the very least.i always said i would never buy a ford.now i also will never buy another chrysler.i thought i had purchased a good quality, dependable vehicle.it will be toyotas for me from now on.
Transmission started shuddering and slipping.vehicle operation was unsafe.vehicle taken to dealer and they stated premature failure of lower planetary gear set and torque convertor failure.stated vehicle not covered under warranty.dealer invoice states lower reverse planetary gearset "came apart"
While driving 70mph the transmission failed stranding the consumer on the side of the road for an hour. *scc
While driving 55 mph, the transmission lost power. The vehicle was unable to accelerate.please provide more information.
I have a chyrsler 2001 town and country minivan with 81,000 miles.experienced a major failure of the transmission on 2/12/06from western new york to my home in cleveland, oh.failure occurred outside erie pa on interstate 90 .had the van towed to chrysler dealership in erie pa. And then i rented a car to get back to cleveland.dealership called and said that the output/input shaft had broken and sprayed metal through out the transmission including damage to the transmission case.dealer stated that the van required a new re-manufactured transmission at $3,800.!!i called chrysler for assistance because i felt that a vehicle with 81,000 miles on it should not have a major transmission failure like that, and i also felt the cost of the repair was excessive.chrysler's response was sometimes this happens and there is nothing they can do.case closed.even the fact that i have owned 3 chrysler minivans didn't matter to them.since the van was 2 hours from my home, i had no other reasonable option but to have the dealership put in the re-manufactured transmission.
At 49,000 miles, my check engine light came on.took to dealer, they said it was a leak in the seal of my fuel tank.replaced tank, after sending for 3 and they sent wrong one.cost 868.00.day after i picked up car, i was on a busy highway and the car lurched into neutral and i pulled to side.would not go in any gear.towed to dealer, was told that the transmission went.worst case 3500.00rebuilt one is 1600.00.will try to have chrysler pay as there are so many of the same problems
Our dealer stated no problem with vechicle because their computer said so. On the last occurrence van had to be towed and would not start.
While traveling at 60 mph on the interstate the vehiclesuddenly stopped.the vehicle was towed.the mechanicstated the transmissionwas defective.the transmission solenoid pack leaked.the consumer started hearing some clanking noise from the engine area. *sc
I was driving down the street and when i went to press the brake to slow down my transmission locked up and the car stalled right in the middle of traffic. The vehicle is in safe mode and is stuck in 2nd gear. I have heard alot about this issue and was wondering about a recall that would relate to the issue.i have 3 children and we could have been hurt badly.
My 2001 chrysler t&c ex only has 52,000 miles on it. I do not tow or haul any heavy material with it, but yet i need a new tranmission costing $3,200.00. The check engine light came on and the next day it failed. I took it back to the dealer and was informed that 5 seperate things were wrong with the transmission. Since i was over the 36,000 miles it was not covered under warranty. I asked the mechanic how 5 things were wrong with the transimission that only has 52,000 miles and not be defective and covered under a warranty and he replied " it does seem odd that 5 things failed with it only having 52,000 miles."i called chrysler to asked that it be fixed as a warranty, the same thing i had to do when the a/c failed and was later recalled, and they made it seem that it was my fault for not purchasing the extended warranty. I ask that since at least 13 other people, according to your complaint database, have had transmission trouble that this be investigated. A car that is only 3 years old, having 52,000 miles on it and is not used for towing or heavy hauling should not need a new transmission and if so sould be covered under warranty since it was apparently defective.thank you for your attention in this matter.
Vehicle was placed in park, but remained in drive, moved forward 5 feet, until brake was applied. This vehicle had a transmission replacement after 12,000 miles
My 2001 chrysler town and country van lost its transmission at 75000 miles.no warning lights or noises or bumps in the gears, just gone at a red light in busy traffic!! estimated cost to repair this is $1500.00 which i don't have at the moment!!
Complete transmission failure at 75,000 miles in may 2006. New seal and torque converter installed. Another transmission failure in july 2006. This shouldn't be happening on a van with only 75,000 miles on it.
My 2001 t&c was parked in my driveway when i decided to crank it to ge the air conditioning going while i went to shut the gate to our yard. When i turned around the car was going down the driveway with the driver's side door still open. The van didn't stop until it ran over the neighbor's fence and got caught in it.when i got to the car i noticed it was in reverse (had it been in neutral it probably wouldn't have moved because the area is so flat). I don't know how it got into reverse because i didn't even get in the car, just my arm to crank it. The emergency brake wasn't on since it was such a flat place. Once i got the van loose i tried in vain to see if it would go into reverse without my foot on the brake, but i couldn't make it happen so that tells me i didn't accidentally cause it by hitting the gear shaft with my arm. I also tried repeatedly to turn the car off with it in gear (of all kinds) to see if it was possible that i had not left it in park, but again i couldn't do it. This tells me it is a vehicle defect. I have contacted my local dealership and all i was told was that they hadn't heard of anything like that. They didn't even suggest that i bring it in! i'm very nervous about my van now because i just don't know what to expect. Thank god my kids weren't in the car and there wasn't anyone playing behind it or in the yard to which it crashed. This could've been disastrous. It is a serious problem and needs to be looked into. My van only has 52,000 miles on it. We bought it new in nov. 2001.
While slowing down gears will shiftfromdrive to neutral.contacted dealer.
The gear shift allows the driver to position the car between park and reverse.my wife reached into the car to pull out the keys, she touched the shift lever and it popped into reverse.she was dragged down our driveway and run over.
While drivingat highway speeds transmission switches from drive to neutral without warning. This has happened twice.dealer has not seen vehicle.
While drivingbetween 50-70 mphvehicle slipped from drive into neutral.no sound, no prior warning. This happened again on 3 aug 2001.
Transmission started shuddering and slipping.vehicle operation was unsafe.vehicle taken to dealer and they stated premature failure of lower planetary gear set and torque convertor failure.stated vehicle not covered under warranty.dealer invoice states lower reverse planetary gearset "came apart"

The seat belt latch which holds down a child safety seat has released at least 4 times without anyone touching it.
The rear and middle vehicles' generation three seat belt buckle did not stay buckled. Consumer had toddler in a child safety seat and the seat belt buckle came unhooked by the slightest movement of the person next to them. *phmanufacture notified , but not willing to do anything.there is no recall.
I was stopped on a state route to make a turn and was rear ended by a vehicle traveling about 50 mph.my shoulder belt did not work properly.the belt did not break, the lap portion held me in the vehicle but the shoulder belt allowed me to hit the steering wheel with my head/mouth.i suffered injuries.the part has been replaced with much hassle from insurance.old part may be available.
Airbag light came on.right front seat belt buckle tensioner was faulty.consequence is tensioner would not work as needed.replaced right front seat belt buckle tensioner.
Consumer states the seat belts in the middle and back seat will release if bumped.
Please refer to abcnews.com primetime march 7, 2002, death of bart moran as a result of defective gen-3 seatbelt. There is also a class action lawsuit from 5 states regarding this matter. My van is equipped with these seatbelts and is a major concern to me and my family. I have contacted chrysler headquarters and they referred me to your dept. Stating that there weren't enough cases for your dept. To look into this matter. How many people must be injured or killed before nhtsa takes any action. Please respond to my concern within a reasonable amount of time, as my safety and the safety of my family is of the utmost importance.
It is obvious that the gen3 seatbelts in this vehicle are unsafe and need to be recalled. They are a safety hazard and i want to be informed on how to have them changed.
No failure occurred at this time.extreme concern regarding safety on gen 3 seatbelts.we wanted to lodge an official complaint.
Abc showed that the gen3 seat belts are unsafe,i wrote to the dealer3/13/02 and diamler chryler on 4/08/02 . I recieved a call today from diamler chrylser stating they are not replacing the seat belts.they are sending me a letter. I am following the instructions on the intenet site that told me to make a complaint out to you if i get answer where they will do nothing.
While child or children are seated in second row of vanbelt buckles are not properly functioning, with a slight touchseat belt buckles will unlatch.
Consumer has 2 child seats in middle rear bench stalk seatbelts. If seat belt lock is bumped it can easily be unlatched.consumer has driven without knowing that child seat was not secured. Consumer checking child seat before traveling.one child is in a safety seat the other is not.when the older child knocks up against both locks they come undone easily. This unlatching is continuous.*jg
Concerned about the gen 3 seatbelts used in this vehicle as they unlatch easily.
Restraint belt retractor has dislodged and is not operable. Dealership has not examined vehicle to diagnose cause.seat belt was on center bence on the passenger side.
Third row shoulder belt unlatched when driver had to brake hard.this allowedchild that was in a child safety seat to fly forward to the next row of seats in front.please descrbe details.
I took my town and country in for regular maintenance and also to check the rear seat belts.the seat belts do not roll up like they should.the dealer said the repair would be $950 to replace the retractors.they say they have not had this problem before.i am scared to death that my kids are not protected.also, they do not seem to latch snuggly.i don't understand how this can happen in a car 4 years old.
I have a 2001 chryslertown and country minivan with gen 3 seat belts.i just heard of the report and i am very concerned.*nlm
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that the seat belt buckles in the rear of the vehicle were extremely easy to exit.the buckles were not secure.she placed her dog in the harness, and the dog barely pushed down on the buckle and was released.the failure occurred while driving 30 mph.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 92,760 and failure mileage was 89,000.
Consumer brought the vehicle to dealer for repairs.when vehicle was returned the dealer, without telling, the owner rotated the seat belt buckles 180 degrees on the second row captains chairs.this would cause the webbing to ride over the red release button when used.dealer said that they were told to do this by the manufacturer, to prevent an inadvertent release of the button because it was protected by the webbing.this would correct the gen iii issue.odi spoke to dealer assistent service manager and dealer said that the seats were removed during repairs and the seat belts were accidentally put on backward. But odi learned from the compainant that another vehicle at the dealership had the same experience.cw
The seat belt latches (the gen 3 latches) in the two back seats of my 2001 chrysler town and country release the belts too easily to protect children and passengers in an accident.my daughter's carseat was found unlatched one day.my husband and i always make sure the carseat is in correctly and we could only guess that the carseat became unbelted after the van was being vacuumed out at the carwash.the employees at the carwash must have bumped the latch without knowing and the belt was released.it doesn't take much of a bump to the latch for it to release the belt.belts should not release that easily. *nlm
While removing four (4!!!!) child safety seats from the rear of our 2001 chrysler t/c minivan, three of the seat belts did not retract. We took it to the local dealer who inspected the problem and told us it would be $850 to replace the defective seat belts. We politely declined while we research the issue. Apparently, we are not the 1st to have this problem. $850 sounds pretty steep to repair a "safety" problem. 3 out of four rear shoulder harness seat belts failing sounds like a "safety" problem to me. What's the point of car seats for small children if the seat belts don't work?
We have a 2001 chrysler town & country van with the gen3 seat belst in it.n our way home from dallas, we checked the kids seat belts before leaving my parents house.about 20 minutes into the trip, i heard a noise as my 10 month old baby dropped one of her tiys over the side of her car seat.when i turned around to look, i noticed that the buckle had unlatched and the toy was laying right beside it.
I discovered by sitting for the first time on the back of my chrysler town & country lx 2001 that the rear seat belts are not working. Indeed they do not block and even do not come back properly in place when not used. I went to my dealer who confirmed today that the 4 belts are defective and is asking $900 to replace them as they are claiming my warranty has expired. If i had not sat on the back i may have never noticed the problem. Those belts are certainly defective since quite some time already. I would like to know what means i have to have chrysler covering for the replacement of the defective belts.thank you for giving me orientation to follow to get my car secure again for my kids who are sitting on the back.
Two bench seats havehookswhere a car seat could be installed. But when passenger sat onbench seatcouldfeelback had beenbrnised.steel u-bolts forchild restraint system protrude when the two rear bench seats are reclined.this protrusion could cause serious injuries.
While driving on sunday night, a car in front of mine hit the brakes requiring me to do the same.at that point, the seat behind my driver's seat disengaged from the locking mechanism and tilted forward.my daughter was in the seat at the time in her carseat.as the seat fell forward her face hit the back of my seat causing an abrasion and black eye.she was taken to her doctor.the van will be taken in to chrysler for evaluation.clearly the seat malfunctioned as it was not left unlocked.
Consumer states the design flow of the front seat has inadequate adjustment range, whenever consumer drives more than 20 minutes her legs fall asleep. *yd
Another vehicle was traveling at 45 mph and rear ended consumer.'s vehicle.consumer driver's side seatback collapsed on impact.consumer suffered from neck and leg injuries.please provide any further information.
Middle row bucket seats do not always latch easily.when not locked down, the seat springs forward while driving, causing passenger in child safety seat to slam into the seat in front.my daughter's head was somewhat protected by the "wings" on the sides of her child seat, but her forehead showed a mark from the impact, and her mouth was bleeding as a result of the incident.the vehicle was not going more than 15 mph, and was decelerating for a stop sign at the time.the child safety seat was secured with the latch system, so the seatbelt was not in use.
The rear seat back was reclined for cargo. When the seat hadle was pulled to raise the seat back to the upright position, the seat back sprung forwards violently striking my wife in the head causing injury. The seat back is apparently spring loaded with no mechanism to control the release of the spring load.
My heated seats were not working.i took my vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the element needed replaced.i paid $154 to fix this. The heat still did not work, and i was told that the element in the back of seat also needed replaced which would cost $600.i was showed by the mechanic that the wires come loose and burn.needless to say i was not going to pay another 600, i already threw away $154.i'm told even though there is a warranty, this is not covered.
Dt*: the contact stated while using the driver's heated seat for 30 minutes it became hot and branded coil marks in a leather jacket. The contact received a satisfaction notification from the manufacturer stating the heater coil in the seat would be replaced.
Many electrical problems, windows don't go up and down, radio and cd player does not work, fan on the heater does not come on at times, heated seats do not work, sliding door has come open while driving (very dangerous if you have kids).popping noise in the front suspension.still does it after being worked on.

Dealership replaced the clock spring at the consumer'sexpense of $100.00.the cruise and horn was inoperative, the steering was hard to turn when the vehicle was first startedand the passenger side middle seat handle had broken. *sc the dealer replaced the steering hose.
The seat was not locked and when the consumer applied the brakes suddenly, the child safety seat moved and the baby car seat lunged forward. The baby bruised his/her face. It must have symbol to let you know seat is locked into placed.
Changed brakes, rotors and calipers but after a couple of miles brakes get stuck, abs light is on constantly and now burnt rubber smell from front wheel.we have had this issue before.

2001 chrysler town and country mini van brakes continue to fail in cold weather. Bought this car in july of 2009. Dt*:the contact stated while driving at no particular speed, the brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle down; however it did not slow down.the brake pedal was pumped several times to get the vehicle to slow down enough to pull the vehicle to the side of the road.it was then restarted and taken to the dealer for inspection.they replaced the calipers and the master cylinder.the vehicle has the same problems although those changes were made.the vehicle is currently at the dealership undergoing additional testing.
Front disks while hot and get wet will bend. If brakes are put on, the front end seems like isfallingoff or apartby the vibration of the front suspension making it kind of hard to control the vehicle. I have taking the vehicle for repair but it happened again.
Air bag sensor light blinks on and off. Brake lines rusting.i had a 94 van that was totaled because the brake lines burst during a panic stop. My son was driving the van and a truck went through a red light. My son slammed on the brakes and nothing. The pedal went to the floor; the van rolled down a ravine into a guard rail and totaled the van. The left strut housing was ripped off. At the time i was suspicious of what happened, i thought the brakes could have been pumped to slow the vehicle down, my son said he tried to pump the brakes but nothing happened.the critical issue here is a catastrophic failure of the brakes, which i couldn't understand. Everyone on this board that had the lines rupture mentioned a complete failure of the brakes.the van was towed home and upon inspecting a 3' piece of brake tubing was missing from the left rear wheel, the rest of the lines was badly rusted. I have owned two 1991 vans 218k, 198k when they were sold for $25 eachone 1994 van 170k was scrappedi presently own two 2001 vans 150k, 177ki recently looked at both my 2001 vans and the brake lines are badly rusted.i was quoted part prices for the two lines that go to the rear brake calipers.68031823aa left rear brake line $227.494683792ad right rear brake$329.12i definitely feel there is a serious design issue with the material the brake lines are made of. I would have never expected a catastrophic failure.can anyone help me find these parts at a reasonable price? should all of the lies be replaced? what did others have to pay for the dealer to fix the problem?thanksmany other similar complaints on this message board:http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/showthread.php?t=2620&page=12.
Washer andnut came off the front wheel whileconsumer was going 15mph.abs light came on as a warning, andvehicle made agrinding noise. Consumer got home, and foundcaliper was the only thing holding the wheel.pin was not put in during manufacturing. Consumer states a flat washer and flat nut (not a lock nut) were used, also there is not a crown nut, nor a cotter pin installed.dealer stated the bearing had come loose from the hub and failed, probably due to insufficient torque on the flat washer and nut.

My wife told me that she had a close call; almost hit the car in front of her some time ago because the van would not come to a complete stop fast enough.last night on the highway, i pressed hard on the brake pedal.the car slowed down but would not come to a complete stop, resulted in bumping into the car in the front.both the passenger and i thought the van should have stopped in time to avoid such an accident.although i was pressing hard on the pedal, i could not feel any pumping of abs. We are not sure if the car is safe to drive around.would like to know if there is something that can be checked out and/or fixed.
Abswarning light remains engaged.dealer does not know what the problem is.initially, they said brakes system was failing, then they said brakes were ok, but warning light needs to be reset.brought the vehicles in twice but still dealer (hopefully, with chrysler's help) unable to resolve the problem. We are still using the vehicle but are not sure if this is a safety issue or not.

Have had front end / rotor problems reported @ 6715miles, 10,806 miles, 21,060 miles and 24,179 miles. It is unreasonablefor rotors to need to be resurfaced or replaced 4 times in less than 25,000 miles. Obviously something is defective causing them to fail. This is a major safety concern for me and my children.
Consumer indicated that when depressing the brakessteering wheel vibrated. Vehicle was serviced, anddealership noticed rotors were warped. The warped rotors were not covered under the vehicle's warranty.

Power steering problems, and power window and door problems.
After reading all the complaints on the 2001 town and country i decided to report my own as well.about 3 years ago i replaced my whole power steering unit.it began becoming stiff and impossible to turn mostly in the morning when is was a little cold...then it began at any start up and sometimes only when i was trying to make a right turn.i took it to my mechanic who replaced the fluid and it was fine for a short amount of time and then began doing the same thing.i took it back to my mechanic who then replaced the whole powersteering unit.it worked much better.then about 6 months ago it started whining i thought it may have been a belt but now i am sure it is the power steering again.this could havecaused more wrecks then what i would like to admit and i am shocked that chrysler is not recalling this problem. I also had to replace my air conditioning unit at 48,000.i too have had to replaced rusty brakes lines and my car repair guy tells me he has replaced numerous lines from chrysler and we even had to wait because they were on back order.( that should tell you something)my tail gate will not always open either. Sometimes it does and sometimes i have to force it to. Not to mention my passenger window hasn't opened for years...due to a motor needing replaced. My biggest complaint is definitely the steering...that is expensive and dangerous.
2001 chrysler town & country limited 3.8l v6. I have had suspension problems from the start.knocking noises, etc.replaced tie rods, sway bars, lower control arms and bushings, but done it piecemeal.many of these items have been repeatedly replaced. Now it has gotten worse--from strictly annoying to downright dangerous.the van jerks approx 6-8 feet left and right into another lane or shoulder in a second.replaced the lower control arms and reduced the jerks to only 6-8 inches but still drifts.i am again replacing rack & pinion, inner and outter tie rods along with the new control arms.hopefully this will alleviate the problem--but this repeated repairs has cost more than the van is worth. Not to mention the rapid wear of tires (seem to replace every 10k miles).

Updated 03/13/08.*ljthe sway bar links and bushings were replaced. The consumer stated when she made a turn the steering wheel would become stiff. The dealer replaced the power steering pump and rack as well as the power steering reservoir. The fuel pump was replaced.
The owner was driving the vehicle when a sudden noise and jerk rendered the power steering useless and the vehicle became impossible to steer. A accident was prevented by steering the vehicle off the road. The vehicle was towed for repair that is still pending...
Power steering boost has failed on three occasions. All were low speed, less than 10 mph. There were no accidents or other consequences other than extreme difficulty in steering. I have taken the car to my chrysler dealership, and they report that they cannot replicate the events i've reported. They further state that they can find nothing wrong with the power steering system. Nevertheless, these events are exactly as i have reported to the dealers service department. I am an experienced driver and vehicle owner. My concern now is when and where will it happen again, and will there be an accident! i frequently drive on snow and ice (vehicle is all-wheel-drive), and any steering failure could lead to an accident. Needless to say, i am very unhappy with the chrysler dealership in question, and no longer feel safe driving this car. The three loss of power steering events occurred over the last 10 or 12 days. Prior to this time there have been no issues at all with the power steering. What can i do now with a vehicle and situation that i no longer regard as safe?
Driving down the road made a right turn and airbag light came on then went off. Tried to have it diagnosis but is not listed in computer. Air bag light comes on and off all the time did a search on computer and alot of people have this problem says it is a spring or something in steering column this should be a recall because of all the people with the same problem. Also corroded coolant lines to rear ac/heater lost all antifreeze and van overheated because of this.
Steering wheel locks when engine is first turned on in morning. Slowly, with a bump or whirring noise, it finally (about 15 seconds) loosens up. However, and this has happened 4 times, as we drove about a mile and stopped at a light, it froze again and wheel would not turn until car moved about 20 ft with gas pedal engaged. If we sat there it would continue. Seems it needs the engine to do more than idle.
Had several repairs done and it didn't fix the problem broke down in several different spots while driving and during morning start up it could have caused customers to have accidents it's a family van something has to be done i don't know what procedure chrysler is making to fix these issues a contact from company or compensation would greatly be appreciated its causing business to lose customers.
I feel good now that companies are repairing their defective automobiles, a process that saves consumer lives and money. One would assume that regulators are controlling the automobile companies and protecting the public, but this assumption is not true. The public spends billions on defective products that department of transportation does little about defective american cars.my power steering fluid leaked out of my chrysler town and country. I entered chrysler power steering problems and received 6,480,000 responses. Then i realized that chrysler is unable to produce a workable power steering system, or they plan for it to fail. I believe their power steering system has been a component of their planned obsolescence for the last quarter of a century. I owned a 1987 chrysler fifth avenue and the power steering system failed in that car. Why must consumers pay for auto makers' incompetence or planned breakdowns? we lose millions of dollars every year while regulators draw pay for ignoring larceny and keeping seats warm.

Steering wheel locked up while driving, with engine running, car went off road, almost hit tree. After stopped , with engine still running ( it never stopped) i had to pull back and forth on the steering wheel, suddenly the wheel was free to turn and has acted normal since. Drove home fine , but scared it may happen again ! kids were in van !
Consumer indicated that their vehicles' steering column is experiencing the defect as states in recall number 00 v 305 000,but vehicle year is not part of this recall.please provide more details. Ts
In january we bought a 2001 chrysler town and country mini van. We had only had this van a short period of time when we were driving down the road and all of a sudden the steering wheel was in our hands. We were only a few short miles to getting onto the interstate where the results could have been devastating.chrysler sent an investigator to check out this van and we got a letter saying" from the information you provided, it appears your inquiry may be more appropriately reviewed for possible action by the agency listed below." (the national highway traffic safety administration.) chrysler has obviously done nothing about this situation. I want to know if anything can be done.we bought this van at des moines chrysler and plymouth and feel they neglected the job in putting out a vehicle for sale that was completely safe. We had our grandchild with us and feel something should be done about this.nothing was said in the letter we received about the fact that this steering wheel was off the column, in our hands and no control of the vehicle. We did go into the ditch on the left side of the road but thank god, no one was hurt. No vehicle was oncoming and the ditch was wide and shallow. Does someone have to be killed to have results in this case? i am not happy with this discussion. Someone did very wrong in handling this and i think that we are getting a bad deal. The daimler chrysler corp is also sending you a report.it is just not a common everyday occurrence to be driving down the road on a busy highway and suddenly you have the steering wheel in your hands. Thank god my husband was driving because i know that i could not have handled it. I feel something should be done to avoid this ever happening again.we were absolutely scarred to death.believe me, our lives flashed before our eyes.
Vehicle lost complete control when backing out from a parking spot. Vehicle towed to dealer who informed consumer that problem was due to steering: column coupling improperly installed by manufacturer.
When turning steering wheel to the left the steering gets stuck.driver has to tug on steering wheel to release it.
When turning from a stop the steering wheel locked up.consumer was able to unlock the steering wheel with force.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Power steering malfunctioned. When they turned steering wheel it would tighten up. Dealership had to rebuld steering.
Total loss of steering... Major components exposed to road elements... Possibility of major accident.
2001 chrysler town and country developed power steering failure.***no answer required***. *mrpower steering reservoir is leaking power steering fluid and making a sucking/gurgling sound.dealership was not willing to do anything.
Dealership replaced the clock spring at the consumer'sexpense of $100.00.the cruise and horn was inoperative, the steering was hard to turn when the vehicle was first startedand the passenger side middle seat handle had broken. *sc the dealer replaced the steering hose.
1.loss power steering during driving conditions.2.upon investigation, the power steering hose from the cooler is ruptured.3.powersteering lines need replaced.
Power-steering return hose may burst and cause loss of power-assist steering and/or fire. There is a recall on 2002 and later models of town & country minivans. The problem also exists on 2001 models, which are not included in the recall.
Upper power steering cooler hose failure on a 2001 town and country - which is exactly the same issue as recall affecting 2002-2004 (nhtsa campaign number: 04v386000) models. Another 2001 model was in the same shop with the same split hose issue. Recall should be extended to all model years with same part or design.
Power steering unit is very noisy. Failure of this unit could causesteering difficulty, which could causeloss of life.
Noisy power steering pump and poor braking.*la

We have 2 - 2001 chrysler town & country vans. They both have less than 55000 and have had several mechanical malfunctions, some of which are very serious. They share many of the same problems which include, steering components, electrical failure of internal gauges, and radio replacements. One van also had a brake line separate while traveling on the highway about a month ago.
The steering wheel shudders and vibrates the whole care and makes a groaning noise while the wheel is turned at low speeds or even if the wheel is turned while the car is idle.possible rack and pinion defect.please recall.
Back in early 2005 we had a problem with the sway bar, sway eliminators & sway bushings having to be replaced on our 2001 chrysler town & country lx with only 31,000 mile on it (purchased new in 2001). We contacted chrysler with the problem & this was resolved promptly by chrysler.same car 1 1/2 years later and now with only 40,000 miles on it a "thunking" noise in the front end again.upon taking it to a local chrysler dealership for a routine oil change the mechanic told us that the rack & pinion steering needed to be replaced at a cost of approximately $900. A representative of the chrysler dealership informed me to contact chrysler about this problem since it seemed to possibly be a premature failure.we immediately had the rack & pinion steering replaced by our mechanic because we didn't know what would happen if it failed while driving.the continuing problem with the failure of major parts on this van starting with only 29,000 miles on it suggests something wrong with the manufacture of this vehicle. Chrysler was contacted in regards to the rack & pinion steering and replied with a sorry past warranty reply.
During the cooler months of the year the steering on my 2001 chrysler town+country becomes exremely stiff to the point that i am unable to turn it and im 6'4" 280 lbs, my mechanic told me it could be a valve inside the rack+pinion isn't working properly he said the only thing to do is replace that steering component, i told a friend who has the same car what was happening and he told me he experiences the same thing. I was wondering if this is happening to other owners of this car and maybe could be a safety hazard.
When the vehicle was driven, the consumer was unable to turn the steering wheel.the steering wheel felt as if it were locking.the dealership indicated that the cause was due to the rack and pinion.tsscc
While reversing steering wheellocked up, but will unlock when driving straight.the problem becameworse.currently, the steering wheel locked up, even when driving straight.mechanic indicated by phone it may be a failure in the rack and pinion. Vehicleshouldn't be driven because the problem will only get worse.
While driving consumer began to make a left hand turn andwithout any indication steering wheel became stuck. Vehicle was serviced. Dealership statedrack and pinion needed to be replaced.
I brought car into the dealership on 2 prior occasions for suspect noises in the front end and they assured me this was normal . I called back to report noise was getting louder and again i was reassured that this was normal and that it was not getting louder.after the warranty was up the rack and pinnion failed thiswas probably the noise i have been hearing.

I purchased my certified pre-owned vehicle in jan. 2002 & as early as nov. 2002 i began reporting a steering noise to my dealer when bringing the car in for the routine checks and oil changes. I was assured the problem was either normal or they could not get the vehicle to do what i was describing. I described on more than one occasion to the service department that when the vehicle was cold & i reversed i had difficulty steering it. The steering would lock up. I of course continued to bring it in and they could not get it to do this. The steering problem changed from difficulty steering when in reverse to difficulty steering in reverse & drive. The problem generally occurs when turning left & has left me in a panic at times when i am turning with all of my might and the van will not respond and come with me. I recently took it to another shop for brakes and oil change and the owner noticed this problem when he went to pull the car into the bay. He called me and alerted me. He thought it might be the struts and said if it was not i would probably be looking at a new steering rack. I even questioned the dealer last year about this and they said i needed to be sure that i kept my steering fluid filled up. My response was if i am losing steering fluid there is another problem that would need to be addressed. I have checked the reservoir and i am not losing power steering fluid. I am now getting scared to drive my vehicle every day, with myself and my two daughter, due to the unpredictability of the steering. I am taking the vehicle to yet another mechanic to see if they can get to the bottom of this. One would think chrysler would be able to determine the problem of their own vehicles before someone else could. 11/02 noise in front end noted and a whine and a transmission tune-up performed. 12/02 front sway bar replaced. 12/02 hose to power steering replaced, power steering reservoir replaced. Continued to mention on subsequent visits & they could not get it to act up.
I purchased my vehicle used, with 40,000 miles and it pulled to the right.then the front end began making noise when going over bumps.the right and left sway arms were replace, and the noise subsided.however, it started soon thereafter, worse than before.the tire/front end store i use produced a tech bulletin from chrysler stating that the problem was the rack and pinion steering gear box.the problem is so severe that finding a part was very difficult due to dealers either being out of them or holding a few due to the frequency of the problem.it is clear that chrysler designed a poor component that if it fails, could lead to a loss of steering, and severe accident/death.total bill was $700.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town & country. The paint on the body of the vehicle was chipping.the vehicle has not been repaired for the defect.the dealer has been notified. The failure mileage was 178,000.the current mileage was 187,000.

2001 chrysler town & country, sliding side door motor failed very quickly. Chrysler refuses to fix problem since i'm not original owner. Also, liftgate motor failed about the same time and again, chrysler refuses to fix under warranty. Both doors are hard to open due to this problem.
We had been having problems with our 2001 chrysler town and country. The sliding door kept opening while we were driving down the road and the door would open.then while we were on vacation i was driving down the highway and the door caught on fire. Within 2 minutes the whole car was in flames if my three children had been in the car i am not sure if i would of been able to get them all out. The fire department got there in good time but it was to late. The whole van and everything in it was totally destroyed.
Rear side doors were remotely controlled. Were opened, but got hung up on shopping bag. Owner put arm through door to remove shopping bag, and door started closing. It failed to reopen while arm in door way. Sensor had failed. It crushed arm. After arm was jerked out, it continued to close & locked. Alsolock button had released when arm was raised, and door flew open.
Passenger's sideelectric sliding door came ajar. Consumer heard an alarm, and within secondsdoor opened about 2 to 3 inches while driving. Consumer automatic sensor triggered it to close back.consumer felt this was very unsafe because childrenwere in vehicle. Consumer has contactedmanufacturer.please provide any further information.
Child got fingers caught in right side power sliding door, and mechanism did not release. Had to manually open door.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the rear driver side sliding door was unable to be locked by using the door lock feature on the driver's door or the keyless entry system with the key fob. On several occasions, when the vehicle was parked, the rear passenger side sliding door would be ajar. The contact stated that the door was only able to be locked manually. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.when the contact proceeded to enter the vehicle, the rear passenger side door failed and retracted quickly.as a result, the contact injured his left arm.he went to the hospital to have his arm examined.the contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.the chrysler manufacturer stated that a representative would give him a call back.the contact has not yet received any follow up calls.the vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 92,000.
The driver side sliding door froze, and did not unlock.the door cannot be opened manually, with remote, or with the auto button.this problem occurs at least one to two times per week.the dealer was unable to duplicate.scc
Right door opens and closes automatically.
Electric sliding side door became impossible to open manually. It would still operate with electric motor but made a grinding noise. In case of an accident, passengers in rear seats would have a hard time opening door ans exiting vehicle.
Consumer's child had gottenfinger caught in gears ofpower door. . has contacted manufacturer.
The driver's side rear automatic sliding door ceased working during cold weather conditions at random times over a couple of years & then suddenly the automatic function of the door would not work at all when the button is pressed from the inside.even worse is that the door will not open when using the manual handle with the lever.this is extremely dangerous, as small children could be trapped.earlier when i took it to a dealership, they stated that a new track harness & something else was needed at a cost over $500.we cannot afford this.doors should work manually without $500 parts.there is nothing physically wrong with the door, nor has it been in a collision etc.
The rear hatch does not work when using the switch on the remote or in the vehicle. It just beeps and tries to open, butthe door does not release. You have to manually open the door. This problem started in 2006, 5 yrs. After the vehicle was made.
Power lift gate does not work, failed approximately two years ago.
Consumer stated that while driving at 55mph the lift gate window shatter without warning for the second time with thin 2-3month. Dealer notified ts
We purchased a 2002 dodge rollx converted minivan and a 2001 chrysler rollx converted minivan with an elk roof addition conversion from the rollx co. In savage minn. About a year ago. When we recently began carrying more than one passenger we noticed and felt a bottoming out with little bounce. I got a look at the rear suspension and was supprised to find that they dropped the floor just above the e-brake line and leaf springs. The distance between the bottom of the floor and the leaf is one and one half inches. The distance between the rubber bumper and the axle is over three inches. The leaf spring and brake cable cannot take the damage for any length of time. We have to remove the spare and rear seats to drive somewhat safer. Contact with the company was futile.
When it is raining we losing power steering.we are not able to turn left or right.also suspension is banging.had clips on sway bar replaced several times and still same banging.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling at 70 mph the wheel bearingwent out.the tires locked, causing the vehicle to skid. The electrical harness broke and wrapped around the wheel, causing the tire to skid on the road. Also, the vehicle had no power steering or abs. The vehicle was maneuvered off the road so the traffic could get by. The vehicle was towed to a dealership, and was unable to determine what happened to the vehicle. Updated 02/09/06.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town andcountry. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph and above, she could hear a clunking noise coming from the front suspension. The contact replaced the sway bar links herself. The failure continued. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, where the vehicle was aligned and repaired. The failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 01v152000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower arm). The vehicle was in the process of being repaired for a third time. The failure mileage was 140,000.
Many electrical problems, windows don't go up and down, radio and cd player does not work, fan on the heater does not come on at times, heated seats do not work, sliding door has come open while driving (very dangerous if you have kids).popping noise in the front suspension.still does it after being worked on.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country. While replacing the battery in the vehicle, the contact noticed that the shock tower had extreme corrosion. The contact stated that the suspension support fractured, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
Consumer state that the vehicle veer to the right and she took it to the dealer to look at it and the dealer said it's normal to dift, the vehicle also vibrates while driving, the dealer is aware of this problem but has not fixed it.*mj
Constant klunking from front end when ever going over bumps, have replace sway bars ,on both sides tie rods, cv joints ,everything has been replaced on this front end and still makes a klunking noise my sister had the same problem with her dodge grand caravan.have talked to numerous people that own or have owned chrysler minivans numerous years and makes and models, with the same problem.
I have a 2001 chrysler town and country. I have had it for 7 months. From the time i brought it home we heard a knocking/rattling noise in the front and the steering wheel was whining. We took it back where they supposedly replaced the alternator, water pump, both bushings and the rack and pinion.the noise was still there after, and the mechanic told us that it was a 500 mile break-in period. Then approximately 5 to 6 months later my heat goes out and still the previous problems from before are there. We took it back where they replaced steering pump and ball joints.they were supposed to put 2 new lines on for the heat when instead they put 2 one foot pieces of black rubber hose on and clapped it on both ends covering the leak. On top of that they put the wrong antifreeze in. I have heat whenever it wants to work. Now the dash light works whenever it wants to work and i still have a knocking noise on the front passenger side along with the whining in the steering wheel. We took it back where i purchased it and the mechanic told us that they saw that some kind of ball bearing had a little bit of play in it but they didn't replace it, then because we called the van a lemon we were told to get out and they refused to fix anything else.i have 3 small children under the age of 5 who are with me most of the time. I feel that this van is a danger to myself and my children.
I own a 2001 chrysler town and country minivan and recently took it to a mechanic for inspection to see what work needed to be done in order to take the vehicle on a 1,000 mile vacation. The mechanic pointed out that the minivan has a rusted strut tower. It is the tower located on the driver's side. After searching on the internet i see that this is and has been a common failure for chrysler, dodge and pontiac vans. I have been told by several mechanics and body shops that this is a known defect on these vehicles and the failure happens frequently.
Theclock spring was detective. The vehicle was under an extended warranty.however, the dealer would not honor the warranty ormake the repairs unless the owner pays out of pocket.there were noise in the front end when turning. *sc
I had a thumping noise in the front right side of my 2001 t&c with about 68000 miles. I took it to the mechanic and he changed the sway bar links, driver side idler arm, both struts, both strut bearings. 8 months latter i was back to the same mechanic to fix the noise which had gotten much worse. He changed the ball joints. I drove it for about another 6 months and noticed that the noise had not totally been illuminated and the strut bearings were creaking. I returned to the mechanic and he finally found the noise. He changed the a-arm and bushings on the passenger side. Problem fixed. One year later and it sounds like the drivers side may need replaced. A-arms and bushings are $350 . Total repairs:new a-arm and bushings, new struts and strut bearings twice, new ball joints twice, new sway bar links, new idler arms, and 3 front end alignments. There is no recall on any of these repairs and i would like to know why.total cost of all repairs was about $1900. The second time around on the struts and bearings, ball joints was free. Woo! hoo!
There's a very loud whine or growling noise coming from front of the vehicle.noise is so intense that people are looking at the vehicle as it passes.when sitting at a light and turning steering wheel to left or right noise gets louder with every turn.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds, there was a popping noise coming from the front suspension.the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop.the mechanic determined the upper control arm and lower ball joints needed to be replaced.there is a nhtsa recall # 01v152000 regarding the front suspension.the vin was not included in the recall.the manufacturer was alerted.additionally, the speedometer intermittently worked.the vehicle is currently at the dealer awaiting repairs for the suspension and inspection of the speedometer.

While driving, there was a scraping noise in the front right wheel, the grinding then became worse and the steering wheel was vibrating, and the abs flashed a couple times and went out as the vehcile was going straight, consumer pulled into the driveway and smelled something hot and felt the front right and tire which was hot and the wheel could be shaken very readily, consumer pulled the front right wheel off and a flat washer and regulator nut fell from the front hub, the vehicle was towed and consumer was informed that the parts that were needed were not available and that the bearing dome was loose from the hub, which probably failed due to insufficent torque.

With 4 douglas tires (215-65-16 t) purchased at walmart i experienced high speed drive-ability issues above 55 mph. Noticed excessive runout issue at cold start. Tire issue continue but change with temperature/distance driven. This certified mechanic considers these tires to be a safety hazard and a source of poor ride quality at all times. These tires should be discontinued. These tires cannot qualify for a "t" rating service. I tested performance of these tires from 0 to 80 mph with the expectation of tire failure.

Thank you.

We do not know what is causing this "hesitation" in the acceleration of the car while driving.the car tends to idle poorly sometimes stalling while at rest and/or revving up while at rest.while taking off from a stop sometimes when pushing on the accelerator the car will not properly accelerate then all of sudden kick in and lunge forward.now the car has a"da, da, da"intermittenthesitation or vibration within the engine making it feel as if you are riding over the same tiny bumps over and over again feeling like their is something braking the car intermittently while you are driving it which also makes the car have a poor riding feel.also, we have noticed that this car does not ride smoothly like the car we testdrove here in michigan.we hit bumps and it feels like the car is dropping off a small cliff, but then on little divits the car drives over then smoothly, which leads me to believe it is not a tire problem.the back end does not even feel like it has shocks when you hit a bump, rather it "booms" and feels like it is dropping off a ledge.we wonder if this is all related somehow....and we would just like our new car to perform like the lxi we test drove that had such a smooth ride.

Along with thousands of others, the blend door in my 2001 chrysler town and country has failed resulting in visibility issues due to the windshield fogging up.this has posed a danger to myself and my children.

Chrysler, as usual, needs the federal gov't to issue edicts before recalls will be issued or replacements/repairs made at no cost to the consumer.electrical failures are this vans greatest downfall.otherwise, it's a really comfortable ride.
Driver's side power window will roll down, but fails to come back up. Sometimes, it will come up in small increments. But, usually, i have to wait a long time for it to work. If it's raining and the window is accidentally opened, it is difficult to get back up if driving on the highway, causing a potentially dangerous situation and also potentially getting things inside the vehicle wet that shouldn't get wet.
The drivers side window goes down but won't come up.this appears to be happening to literally thousands of town and country minivan owner.
I was reading about the problems drivers are having with their driver side window not going up all the way. We had to have the motor replaced in our drivers door and shortly before that, my nephew who also owns a 2001 chrysler van, also had to replace the motor in his driver's door.
Power window motors not functioning as well as power door locks.
Windows will open but will only go up in intermittent cycles, moving inches at a time or not at all when pushing the button; have to wait minutes to get it to move only inches.becomes a major problem when it is raining.been ongoing for last two years.started as just driver's side window, but within last year started on passenger side; however, do not have the $400 per window to fix!
Shortly after purchase of vehicle, the driver's side automatic window, once put down, had difficulty going back up.after repeated attempts, finally window went up.next time window was put down, we could not get it up.switch was checked.switch was fine.motor needed to be replaced ~300.
I have researched this with people at work and on online internet forums to find out this is a recurring problem with chrysler power windows in their vans.i am going to replace the motor myself as it seems the dealerships are taking full advantage of this and charging very high replacement repairs.
My van 2001 chrysler town & country driver's side power window won't go up. Window only rises in 1/2" increments. Dealer said it was a major problem with 2001 models but chrysler never issued a recall. Said i need a new power window motor.
While driving passenger's side window cracked and blew in and out, resutling in injuries to driver and passenger.contacted dealer.consumer stated that injuries to child that was who was sitting in the rear seat.
Chrysler 2001 town & countrypower window motors constantly failing and needing to be replaced.
Power windows on driver side is not operating. Started two weeks ago and now stuck in the down position.
Thus is a 2001 vehicle with 45k miles - worst car i have ever owned for the first 18 months we had the car we complained at every visit about a groaning noise from the rear when in stop and go traffic - finally fixed after a year and a half9/01paint peeled off left passenger door - fixed by dealer 11/01radio stopped working - replaced under warranty 10/02 - sliding door hard to open - claimed to repair - still hard to open 10/02 - clunking noise over bumps in front end - replaced left side stabilizer bar link 4/02 - noise in rear when turning - replaced rear backing plate anchors 6/02air conditioner compressor replaced - under warranty -they took two weeks to fix this 6/02 engine losing power when driving - replaced tps 1/03rear wiper motor replaced - $150(car has 38k miles) 6/03 rear stabilizer bar - $250 7/03 rear wiper motor again - out of warranty - $150 9/03 driver window motor - $250 the worst of all - 11/03 - transmission needs to be totally replaced - $2700 - no warranty - car has 45k miles - calledchrysler and was told basically tough luck that i did not buy an extended warranty - the car just stopped moving - luckily we did not have an accident we have maintained this vehicle according to chrysler guidelines at the dealer since we bought it
Driver's side power window fails.there is a moisture problem (leak?) in the front doors of the chrysler town and country mini-van.ours has failed twice, there is a mildew-ish odor when the window is put down.we have discussed this with other owners of the same vehicle and they have had similar problems.this is an on-going problem.
Drivers window will not go up.have read hundreds of complaints online.some say chrysler knows about it but not enough to recall from insiders while some dealers deny knowing, even though friends are employees there and repair 2-3 per week.oops caps.

2001 chrysler town and country limited, back windshield wiper screws came apart during arainstormand broke the windshield. It has to be replaced. I have had this vehicle since 2003 and have spent thousands of dollars on major parts. I cannot afford a car payment, but i am worried what will go next. Maybe something that would cause catastrophic injury. Daimler chrysler needs to reimburse some or all of these expenses.

The windshield wipers do not work properly.the driver's side windshield wiper does not go all the way up, and the passenger wiper goes too far.they will occasionally hit each other, causing the blades to break or fall off.we thought we had it fixed by a dodge dealership in june 2006 in rockwall, tx, but it still wasnot working along with the wiper fluid. Also, this wasto be fixed by dodge.we have since moved to montana, where snow and rain can affect driving.the wipers are still eratic and could cause an accident.
Operate windshield wipers in intermittant mode.wipers will not go to continuous mode when switch is turned to continuous setting. This is a multifunction switch that also operates high beam and turn signals.this switch had to be replaced 19 months ago for turn signal problems.wipers will go into continuous mode for awhile when turnsignals are operated.
Dt: the wheels are premium alumium that are chrome plate. Put new tires on it because one kept going soft. Then two of the tires did that again. Took them off, and there was nothing wrong with them. He said the chrome was bulbing up under the tire and letting the air out. . noticed this about 5 months. This happens about once a week. Contacted gm they just say vehicle is out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler town and country.while driving 70 mph, the steering wheel vibrated.the contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and the driver side front tire detached.the contact had the vehicle towed to the mechanic and he stated that the lug nuts severed.he replaced the tires and the lug nuts.approximately five months later, while driving 5 mph, the front passenger side tire detached.as of december 4, 2007, the mechanic had not inspected the vehicle.the contact stated that the front lug nuts severed.the failure mileage was 115,000 and current mileage was 120,538.
